- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:03Epstein Chronicles. One of the biggest de fews that we
- 0:08see when it comes to Jeffrey Epstein and the so
- 0:11called investigations into Jeffrey Epstein and his associates are these
- 0:17internal investigations that are led by Jeffrey Epstein's friends. And
- 0:22when it comes to the SDNY and the man that
- 0:24leads the SDNY, Jay Clayton, could the conflict of interest
- 0:28be any more apparent? Let us recall that before taking
- 0:33this job at the SDNY, this dude was working for
- 0:37Apollo Global, you know, Leon Black's company, and he was
- 0:42very close and is very close to a lot of
- 0:45the people that were in that world. So this is
- 0:49the guy that we're gonna have investigate these people. It
- 0:52doesn't really inspire much confidence in what's going on. And
- 0:57when you have a situation that is just rife with
- 1:01all kinds of corruption as it is, the last thing
- 1:05you want to do as an institution is add to
- 1:08the problem. But when it comes to this DOJ and
- 1:11this administration, they don't care. And that's because they really
- 1:16believe that they're going to make this go away. That's
- 1:19what they think but they're wrong. Today, we have an
- 1:24article from The Jacobin and the headline the Epstein class
- 1:29investigates itself. This article was authored by Freddie Brewster. The
- 1:36investment portfolio of the Interim US Attorney for the Southern
- 1:40District of New York shows financial stakes and Epstein's associated
- 1:44financial institutions and Venezuelan oil interests. The Trump appointee stands
- 1:50to win big from his own investigations, like on what
- 1:54planet is that okay? And since when is that something
- 1:58that is acceptable in America? Jay Clayton, a top federal
- 2:03prosecutor leading investigations into sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, Venezuelan president
- 2:10Nicholas Madoro, and Major Wall Street Banks, holds more than
- 2:14one point six million in investments in companies with a
- 2:18potential financial stake in those same matters, according to ethics
- 2:22disclosures reviewed by The lever Well, it's obvious that there's
- 2:27a problem here, but it's not going to be addressed.
- 2:30Just like the rest of this stuff, they don't care.
- 2:33There is nothing that's going to force their hand, so
- 2:36they're just going to roll with it, and especially right
- 2:40now with their shiny new object that everybody's focusing on,
- 2:44which is the war in Iran. They're going to keep
- 2:47going as far as they can with the Epstein cover up.
- 2:50And what did the Clintons used to say, never let
- 2:53a good crisis go to waste, Right, So there's no
- 2:56doubt that the Trump administration is going to use what's
- 2:59going on in Iran to help cover up what's happening here. Clayton,
- 3:06President Trump's pick to run the Justice Department's top dog
- 3:09Southern District of New York office, owns stake in multiple
- 3:13oil and gas companies that stand to benefit from Venezuela's
- 3:17regime change, as well as Wall Street banks and financial
- 3:21firms currently under investigation by Congress over their ties to Epstein.
- 3:26And this is the guy leading the dance. I'm sure
- 3:29that really inspires a lot of confidence in everybody out there.
- 3:33I know it doesn't me. You know that Jay Clayton's
- 3:36gonna do the right thing. He's never going to bend
- 3:41and try and help his buddies. He's never going to
- 3:44try and help his boss, Donald Trump. Right, that wouldn't
- 3:48be ethical. And everybody in this administration is above and
- 3:52beyond approach, Right, How dare you criticize anybody in the
- 3:57most transparent administration of all time. The disclosure show Clayton
- 4:05has more than one million in financial holdings and in
- 4:07private equity giant Apollo Global Management, where he served as
- 4:11board chairman until his Justice Department appointment. And that right
- 4:16there should set off all kinds of alarm bells. And
- 4:19if you were wondering how somebody like Leon Black has
- 4:22avoided real trouble here, this is how when everybody that's
- 4:27in control of the DOJ and the government is your
- 4:32friend or your buddy or a fellow traveler, you're gonna
- 4:36get hooked up. And let's not forget that Ben Black
- 4:39is part of the administration. Leon Black's son j Clayton,
- 4:44has a very personal interest in seeing the Epstein story
- 4:47as a cabin doff story involving mysterious who could have
- 4:51ever known it villain, rather than the story of interconnected
- 4:55a moral elites. It appears to be two impartial people,
- 4:59said Jeff how, executive director of the government watchdog group
- 5:03Revolving to a Project. And I don't think I've met
- 5:07one single person, regular person who doesn't see what's going
- 5:11on here and doesn't see just how screwed up things
- 5:15really are behind the scenes when it comes to the
- 5:17so called masters of the universe. Because even if you
- 5:22don't believe that this was some vast human trafficking enterprise,
- 5:27how can you deny the rest of it? How can
- 5:30you deny the stuff with the paper trail, How can
- 5:33you deny the obvious corruption. Well, if you're a serious person,
- 5:36you can't because it all goes hand in hand, and
- 5:39when you start to get a lay of the land,
- 5:41it looks like all these people were put in place
- 5:44for that specific reason, right, the loyal soldiers, Todd Blanche,
- 5:48Jay Clayton, Pam Bondy, Cash Patel, all people that are
- 5:53going to play ball with what the administration wants them
- 5:56to do, and not only that, but rally around those decisions,
- 5:59like there the right decisions to make. When anybody who's
- 6:02not being biased and is taking a neutral approach understands
- 6:07that what they're doing is just furthering the cover up,
- 6:11that's a really paralyzing bias to bring to the role
- 6:14of prosecutor. Houser added, we should want professional skeptics to
- 6:18serve our prosecutors, not the credulous. And I think that's
- 6:23correct too. Why do we have to have all your
- 6:27buddies everywhere in the government. Isn't that just a form
- 6:30of DEI? That's really what it comes down to. Are
- 6:34you really going to try and tell me that Jay
- 6:35Clayton is the most qualified person for that position in
- 6:39the whole country, or that Todd Baby Billy Blanches, or
- 6:42that Pambondi is, or that Cash Patil is. We all
- 6:46know the answer to that, and the answer is no. Clayton,
- 6:51a former corporate attorney with no prosecutorial experience and Trump's
- 6:56former Securities and Exchange Commission chair, served as chairchairman of
- 7:00Apollo's board of directors from twenty twenty one intil April
- 7:04of twenty twenty five, when Trump selected him to be
- 7:07interim US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.
- 7:12Clayton was never confirmed to the position by the Senate,
- 7:15but in a rare move, a panel of judges appointed
- 7:18him to the position until the Senate confirmation candidate can
- 7:22take over. Oh, isn't that nice. It's just such a joke,
- 7:27Like it's honestly a joke. The whole entire thing that
- 7:30we're seeing here play out in front of us. The
- 7:33political theater surrounding. This is so disgusting that it's almost
- 7:38hard to put it into words. Seven months after Clayton
- 7:44assumed his Justice Department position, amid a public pressure campaign
- 7:47urging the Justice Department to release the so called Epstein files,
- 7:52US Attorney General Pambondi tasked him with investigating people and
- 7:56institutions tied to Epstein. According to Trump, that list should
- 8:00include former President Bill Clinton, former Obama administration advisor Larry Summers,
- 8:06billionaire tech founder and Democratic Party funder Reied Hoffman and
- 8:11Wall Street Bank JP Morgan, Chase Funny, leaves out Leon Black,
- 8:16leaves out jess Day, leaves out all of his buddies,
- 8:18leaves out himself. But everybody else who is his enemy,
- 8:23well they should all be targeted. What kind of moron
- 8:26talks like that? I mean, even if you have a
- 8:29case that's being built and you're talking like that, you're
- 8:32gonna end up getting that case thrown out. Imagine if
- 8:35a lawyer was talking like this, a prosecutor, I mean,
- 8:39the defense team would be filing motions the second the
- 8:41words came out of their mouth. And if any kind
- 8:44of investigations ever initiated against any of those people, they're
- 8:49going to claim that they're being targeted and it'll just
- 8:51get thrown out anyway. But the truth is there was
- 8:54never gonna be any kind of investigation into anybody, Democrats
- 8:58or otherwise. So Donald Trump was just shooting his mouth
- 9:00off like usual. Clayton has also been assigned to spearhead
- 9:05the redactions of victims personally identifiable information in the trove
- 9:10of Epstein investigation records the Justice Department began releasing on
- 9:14January thirtieth. The process has proved to be a debacle
- 9:19due to failures that left email addresses and nude photos
- 9:22of potential victims unredacted, plus the name of a victim
- 9:27in another high profile sex trafficking case recently prosecuted by
- 9:31Clayton's office. The SDNY is like Monty Python meets a
- 9:36Reno nine one one. Talk about a bunch of morons
- 9:40who's running this shit? The Trailer Park Boys. On January third,
- 9:47the Justice Department released its indictment against Madero, which included
- 9:51Clayton's signature. That indictment has drawn criticism after the Justice
- 9:56Department dropped certain claims and revised portions after submitting it
- 10:01to the court. The indictment alleges that for more than
- 10:04twenty years, Maduro led a narco terrorism ring that imported
- 10:08tons of cocaine into the United States. Clayton is the
- 10:12top federal prosecutor overseeing the government's case. Well at the time,
- 10:17when they were trying to say it was about fentanyl,
- 10:20that was obviously a bunch of bullshit. The vast majority
- 10:23of fenyl or a precursor that comes into the country
- 10:26is coming in through Mexico. Now cocaine, no doubt, certainly
- 10:30coming from Venezuela. It's a transit point. But when we're
- 10:35talking about fentyl, Venezuela had nothing to do with fentyl whatsoever.
- 10:42So that was an obvious lie. If they would have
- 10:44just said cocaine, okay, cool, believable. Still stupid, but believable.
- 10:48And of course you're going to see that reflected in
- 10:51the indictment, and I'm sure that it's going to be
- 10:54superseded a couple of more times before Maduro ends up
- 10:57going to trial. According to the Office of Government Ethics disclosures,
- 11:04Clayton still maintained significant investments in many of the companies
- 11:08involved in his office's work. That includes between one point
- 11:12five million and six million worth of Apollo holdings, between
- 11:15fifteen thousand and fifty thousand in JP, Morgan, Chase and
- 11:20Bank of America stock, and between one thousand and fifteen
- 11:23thousand in Bank of New York, Mellon and City Group stock.
- 11:28The Justice Department has not announced any criminal prosecutions of
- 11:32banks tied to Epstein, but Congress is investigating one point
- 11:36five billion in suspicious financial transactions tied to Epstein, sex
- 11:41trafficking crimes and disco conspirators that allegedly flowed through Deutsche Bank,
- 11:47JP Morgan, Bank of America, and Bank of New York Mellon.
- 11:53City Bank is among the institution Senators have called on
- 11:56the Treasury Department to investigate over suspicious activities relating to
- 12:01Jeffrey Epstein and dissociates. What's more, Clayton holds between nineteen
- 12:06thousand and one hundred and ten thousand in Chevron, Conico, Phillips,
- 12:10Exon Mobil, Phillip sixty six, and Valero Energy stock, oil
- 12:15companies with a potential financial stake in Venezuela's future oil production.
- 12:21He also owns between fifty thousand and one hundred thousand
- 12:24dollars worth of stock in the holding company Berkshire Hathaway,
- 12:28which also stands to gain from Venezuelan oil production thanks
- 12:32to its six percent steak in Chevron. Clayton's portfolio also
- 12:37includes between one million and five million in unvested American
- 12:41Express stock, between one hundred thousand and two hundred and
- 12:44fifty thousand in Google parent company Alphabet stock, and between
- 12:49one hundred thousand and two hundred and fifty thousand in
- 12:52Amazon stock, among other holdings. Federal ethics and conflict of
- 12:57interest rules which apply to Justice Department employees barre prosecutors
- 13:02from taking official action in a particular matter involving any
- 13:06entity in which you or someone whose interests are imputed
- 13:09to you have a financial interest. So Clayton should just
- 13:13recuse himself from all of this. In fact, he should
- 13:16go back to being a corporate lawyer. He is in
- 13:18over his head, one thousand percent over his head. Those
- 13:23rules also bar prosecutors from participating in cases involving any
- 13:28person for whom you have served within the last year
- 13:31as officer, director, trustee, general, partner, agent, attorney, consultant, contractor,
- 13:38or employee. The Justice Department declined to comment on whether
- 13:42Clayton plans to recuse himself from Epstein or of Venezuela
- 13:46related matters. No way, he was put here for this reason.
- 13:50He is not going to recuse himself. Well, you think
- 13:54this DOJ has honor. During his time at Apollo, Clayton
- 13:59helps s caere the company through a public relations quagmire
- 14:02regarding Apollo's co founder and former CEO, Leon Black, and
- 14:07his personal and business connections to Epstein. Apollo appointed Clayton
- 14:12chairman after Black resigned from the position in March of
- 14:15twenty twenty one, amid scrutiny over his Epstein ties and
- 14:19sexual harassment allegations made against them. Several but not all,
- 14:23of the related suits have been dropped, and Black has
- 14:26denied the allegations. Yeah, well, good luck denying those. Good luck,
- 14:31Leon Black, because from what I've seen from those court filings,
- 14:36sure's a lot of smoke there. In January twenty twenty
- 14:39one regulatory filing, Apollo disclosed an internal investigation into Black
- 14:45and the firm's relationship with Epstein, as well as the
- 14:48letter Black issued to investors, both of which stated Apollo
- 14:52had no formal business ties to Epstein and that only
- 14:55Black himself consulted with Epstein on business related issues. As
- 14:59of if Black wasn't Apollo and Apollo wasn't Black, you
- 15:04can't separate the two. Now they'll say you can, but
- 15:07you can't. I'm sorry, it doesn't work that way. Due
- 15:13to the new Epstein Files revelations, Apollo's claims are now
- 15:16facing legal scrutiny in the US District Court for the
- 15:19Southern District of New York, Clayton's jurisdiction. While his office
- 15:24is not directly involved in the case, the matter could
- 15:26put pressure on him to include his former employer among
- 15:30the people and institutions tied to Epstein that he's charged
- 15:33with investigating. January thirtieth, Epstein Files release contained documents detailing
- 15:40multiple emails between Epstein, current Apollo CEO Mark Rowan, and
- 15:45other Apollo executives between twenty thirteen and March twenty sixteen,
- 15:50long after Epstein had been convicted of soliciting a minor.
- 15:54And again, this is where the timelines come in, right.
- 15:57There's no excuse here, and Mark Rowan should be embarrassed.
- 16:02He came out and said he had no contact with Epstein,
- 16:04there weren't friends, blah blah blah, another lie. In response
- 16:10to a group of Apollo shareholders filed a lawsuit on
- 16:13March second in the Southern District of New York alleging
- 16:16that Apollo, Black and Rowan were directly or indirectly involved
- 16:21in drafting, producing, reviewing, or disseminating the false and misleading
- 16:25statements and information that was submitted to shareholders in the
- 16:29twenty twenty one regulatory filing. Yeah, they lied one thousand
- 16:34percent without a doubt. And the crazy thing is, there's
- 16:38all kinds of teachers' unions and different funds that are
- 16:44being managed by Apollo Global, So this is just the
- 16:49beginning of the trouble for them. Additionally, two major teachers'
- 16:54unions are urging the Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate
- 16:59what they call miss claims made in the regulatory filing.
- 17:03Were troubled by Apollo's seeming inability to be forthcoming about
- 17:07the extent to which Epstein was a personal, social, and
- 17:11professional associate of the firm and its partners. The American
- 17:15Federation of Teachers and the American Association of University Professors
- 17:20wrote in a letter to the Commission, Well, that's funny
- 17:22considering how many professors were on Epstein's tea. That's a
- 17:28bit ironic. No, we don't know exactly what motivates that
- 17:32lack of candor, but it should be investigated. Well, that's true,
- 17:35It most certainly should. Do you really think Jay Clayton's
- 17:39going to be the guy to do it. Apollo did
- 17:42not respond to a request for comment, but in a
- 17:44February eighteen statement, Apollo said there's nothing new in the
- 17:48Justice Department Epstein documents and that despite the flurry of
- 17:52coverage and certain constituents pushing their own agendas, the facts
- 17:56remain the same. Do they though? Do they really? And
- 18:01even if they do, the problem for Apollo is we've
- 18:05never seen the real facts. What we saw was a
- 18:08water down report by Deckert. That's all we saw. Still.
- 18:14Chris Tobe, an investment advisor and litigation expert for public
- 18:18pension funds representing workers, said Clayton's Apollo holdings are a
- 18:22clear conflict of interest and that he should resign. There
- 18:25are just too many conflicts here, Tobe told the Lever
- 18:29and I agree with that one hundred percent. And I've
- 18:31been saying this for a while. I don't think Jay
- 18:33Clayton should have this job. There's way too much conflict
- 18:37of interest going on, and I don't know how anyone
- 18:39could have any faith that Jay Clayton's going to do
- 18:42the right thing, especially considering how terrible they did when
- 18:45it comes to curating the Epstein files for release. So
- 18:48I certainly have my doubts about Jay Clayton and about
- 18:51how neutral he can be when he's pursuing his duty
- 18:56as the head honcho of the SDNY. So we're going
- 19:00to keep an eye on these cases and see what
- 19:02happens as they continue to make their way through court,
- 19:05and when we have some more information on them, we'll
- 19:07get it added to the catalog. All the information that
- 19:11goes with this episode can be found in the description box.
