- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome in to dag Da. I'm here on December second.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I'm kind of Annie Stevens, Bran Sexton, and John Oser
- 0:21Speaker 1: are with me today as we talk about the jaguars
- 0:23Speaker 1: twenty three to twenty loss to the Texans yesterday, their
- 0:26Speaker 1: fifth loss in a row, but perhaps an even bigger
- 0:28Speaker 1: loss as their quarterback had taken a hit and was
- 0:32Speaker 1: taken out of the big games. We'll start with big
- 0:34Speaker 1: thing number one. That's a painful loss. We talk about
- 0:36Speaker 1: the loss of the Texans, but really the loss of
- 0:37Speaker 1: quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Evan Ingram, one of the first people
- 0:40Speaker 1: come to his defense, spoke about it after the game.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it was just it was a dirty hit.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I think obviously those hits always in question. Trad was
- 0:52Speaker 2: going down and I just I saw out on my peripheral.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I got a pretty clear view of it, and in
- 0:57Speaker 2: that moment it just instinct was just just Phil, It's
- 1:00Speaker 2: like a clean hit. So I just go stick up
- 1:02Speaker 2: from my quarterback.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Brian laid hit by linebacker as he's al shah here
- 1:08Speaker 1: kicked out of the game. After that, we saw Jarion
- 1:10Speaker 1: Jenkins was kicked out after the resulting brawl. I don't
- 1:12Speaker 1: think anybody was surprised by what kicked that off, because
- 1:15Speaker 1: I think everyone's immediate reaction to that hit was that
- 1:17Speaker 1: it was dirty and it was uncalled for at that
- 1:19Speaker 1: time in the game. But just really tough to see
- 1:22Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence in that position it was.
- 1:23Speaker 3: And that's easily the most vicious hit that I've seen
- 1:27Speaker 3: a Jaguars quarterback take. In two thousand and one, Mark
- 1:30Speaker 3: Brunelle took one from a defensive tackle named Gerard Warren
- 1:32Speaker 3: who knocked it out cold, and of course he was
- 1:36Speaker 3: done and they didn't.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Even throw a flag.
- 1:39Speaker 3: And so over the last twenty three seasons, the game
- 1:41Speaker 3: has evolved. John. You know, he could have thrown his
- 1:45Speaker 3: arms out and hit his shoulder pads. He didn't have
- 1:48Speaker 3: to come with the forearm that created the vicious hit,
- 1:52Speaker 3: and his head bounced back and hit the turf. I
- 1:55Speaker 3: heard that he did the fencing position, which is sort
- 1:57Speaker 3: of that body reaction to it.
- 2:02Speaker 4: The game has changed.
- 2:03Speaker 3: They worked hard to keep these sorts of plays out
- 2:05Speaker 3: of it to make the game safer for players. You know,
- 2:08Speaker 3: we've seen in recent years the whole focus on concussions
- 2:10Speaker 3: and the concussion protocol that guy ought to be suspended
- 2:14Speaker 3: as long as Trevor Lawrence is out at the very least.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say at the least.
- 2:19Speaker 5: You know, in the seventies they talked about the criminal element,
- 2:22Speaker 5: and I don't know what his intent was, but it
- 2:27Speaker 5: was a form to the head. It was vicious and
- 2:29Speaker 5: if you did it on the street, you'd be arrested.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Now, I don't go overboard and say he should never
- 2:34Speaker 5: play again, but it was as bad and intent as
- 2:38Speaker 5: anything I've seen in thirty years doing the league. So
- 2:43Speaker 5: there was a tone to the fight that followed that
- 2:46Speaker 5: was different than a normal football fight. This was like
- 2:50Speaker 5: a lot of times football fights, you're sitting there and
- 2:52Speaker 5: you're hitting pads and you think, well, what are they doing?
- 2:55Speaker 5: The Jaguars players, that was out of character in the NFL.
- 3:00Speaker 5: I think probably even Texans players probably wouldn't have fought
- 3:03Speaker 5: very hard to defend it because when they look at
- 3:06Speaker 5: it the bank, what are you doing? Yeah, I mean
- 3:08Speaker 5: there's a code in this league where you hit, you
- 3:13Speaker 5: intend to maybe take guys out of the game, but
- 3:15Speaker 5: you don't try to end careers.
- 3:16Speaker 4: And that step way over a line.
- 3:19Speaker 5: And I think other players would tell you, even on
- 3:23Speaker 5: other teams.
- 3:24Speaker 4: You don't do that.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Listen, the commissioner is going to have something to say
- 3:26Speaker 3: about this, Kuy. But I also think that the Players
- 3:28Speaker 3: Association should right. The players on the other thirty teams
- 3:32Speaker 3: should because if this guy is playing in the NFL, well,
- 3:36Speaker 3: your quarterback could be the guy that gets hit, or
- 3:38Speaker 3: you could take the dirty shot. At some level, the
- 3:41Speaker 3: players have to police themselves through their association because they're
- 3:44Speaker 3: the ones that are always and rightfully so on the
- 3:47Speaker 3: forefront of players' safety. That's their message. They have to
- 3:51Speaker 3: do something about this guy.
- 3:53Speaker 5: If there's a suspension, which if there's not, something's wrong.
- 3:57Speaker 5: It'd be interesting to see how the Players Association usually
- 4:00Speaker 5: fights those It'll be interesting because other players have to say,
- 4:05Speaker 5: why are we fighting this?
- 4:06Speaker 1: This is wrong about protecting themselves. We'll talk a little
- 4:09Speaker 1: bit more about this in the next block, but we're
- 4:10Speaker 1: going to move on to this big thing number two,
- 4:11Speaker 1: which is show some fights. We saw some literal fights
- 4:14Speaker 1: after that hit on Trevor Lawrence, but also some fight
- 4:16Speaker 1: in the team as they battle back, and the offense
- 4:18Speaker 1: looked better than we've seen in weeks, and Dog Peterson
- 4:21Speaker 1: said he was pleased with what he saw from his
- 4:22Speaker 1: team after that.
- 4:25Speaker 6: You know, it's just again, it's unfortunate. It's a it's
- 4:27Speaker 6: a play that that really has no you know business
- 4:30Speaker 6: being in our in our league. And you know, I
- 4:35Speaker 6: thought the officials did a great job of you know,
- 4:37Speaker 6: doing the best they could it to get control of it,
- 4:39Speaker 6: you know, and all of that. But you know, again,
- 4:45Speaker 6: just trying to get again, get in Trevor in in
- 4:47Speaker 6: a comfortable situation, getting it back out there, trying to
- 4:50Speaker 6: get some you know, some momentum on offense. And obviously
- 4:53Speaker 6: you know that happens and it takes a little wind
- 4:55Speaker 6: out of your sales. But you know, on the flip
- 4:58Speaker 6: side of that too, Matt came in and he got
- 5:00Speaker 6: us back in the football game.
- 5:01Speaker 4: So proud of that too.
- 5:03Speaker 1: John Trevor was already playing hurt with his left shoulder injury.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Obviously left the game with the concussion. He's in the
- 5:07Speaker 1: concussion protocol now, but the team responding emotionally, but then
- 5:10Speaker 1: also on the field as well. You want to play
- 5:12Speaker 1: for Trevor when he's taken out.
- 5:13Speaker 5: Of the game. Yeah, I was a little surprised that
- 5:18Speaker 5: it went from six to six to twenty three six
- 5:20Speaker 5: as fast as in the second half. Uh, that sort
- 5:22Speaker 5: of defined the game obviously, but credit to the offense
- 5:25Speaker 5: they got him back in it.
- 5:27Speaker 4: I thought they did play with fight.
- 5:29Speaker 5: I thought they were in a tough situation because the
- 5:31Speaker 5: officials in a pool report said they didn't warn players,
- 5:36Speaker 5: but players afterwards said the officials made it clearly wasn't
- 5:40Speaker 5: gonna be anymore. So you had to sort of play
- 5:43Speaker 5: with a balance, which I think is hard. So I
- 5:46Speaker 5: think they were in a tough spot in terms of
- 5:48Speaker 5: trying to I guess balance.
- 5:50Speaker 4: That emotion stay in the game.
- 5:53Speaker 5: I thought overall they did a good job of staying
- 5:55Speaker 5: in a game when things could have gotten either too
- 5:59Speaker 5: emotional or or just out of whack. And I credit
- 6:03Speaker 5: him for staying in it and almost went in the end.
- 6:05Speaker 3: You would have loved to see Cam little connect on
- 6:06Speaker 3: that field goal, because then you're only down a touchdown.
- 6:09Speaker 3: You're not giving the Texans the fifty five yard field,
- 6:12Speaker 3: which you know they went right down and scored. And
- 6:15Speaker 3: then maybe Mac Jones in the fourth quarter is able
- 6:18Speaker 3: to give you something like he did.
- 6:20Speaker 4: I'll say this.
- 6:21Speaker 3: You know he played against the Vikings and the Lions,
- 6:23Speaker 3: and we didn't see much at least in.
- 6:25Speaker 4: The fourth quarter.
- 6:26Speaker 3: You know, he threw for two hundred and thirty five
- 6:27Speaker 3: yards and the two touchdowns on those back to back
- 6:29Speaker 3: ten plus play drives.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Kai.
- 6:31Speaker 3: It's important because you're probably gonna play with him. I
- 6:33Speaker 3: mean I would think you're gonna play with him at
- 6:35Speaker 3: least this week, probably next week, maybe the rest of
- 6:37Speaker 3: the season, depending on what they decided to do with Trevor.
- 6:41Speaker 3: So to see him kind of he was early wild
- 6:45Speaker 3: early John. You know, he was overthrowing some guys and
- 6:47Speaker 3: missing some targets, and to see him settle down and
- 6:49Speaker 3: settle in was a good sign.
- 6:51Speaker 4: I thought. I thought Brian was gonna say when to
- 6:53Speaker 4: stay Camerlon on the fight.
- 6:54Speaker 5: I'm not sure what they wanted to, but yeah, mac
- 6:58Speaker 5: Jones showed why he can be a capable backup with
- 7:03Speaker 5: the heart, the awareness. I mean, there was some stuff
- 7:06Speaker 5: late that he hadn't sewn in the first two games.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Fun, A big thing today is gonna be playing with pride.
- 7:11Speaker 1: We're talking about the team's response in the second half
- 7:14Speaker 1: of that game, but Brian, going forward, there's less than
- 7:16Speaker 1: one percent chance they're going to be making the playoffs,
- 7:18Speaker 1: so they're pretty much playing for pride at this point,
- 7:20Speaker 1: what does that mean for this team and these players, Well.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Its in his professional football and it's about your financial future.
- 7:25Speaker 3: So playing for pride means that you put every tape
- 7:29Speaker 3: I'm sorry, every rep on tape, right, every rep in
- 7:32Speaker 3: the practice field, every rep on a game tape.
- 7:36Speaker 4: It's not even tape anymore. It's a hard drive, right.
- 7:39Speaker 3: But everything you do is scrutinized by both your team
- 7:42Speaker 3: and any team that might look to sign you. So
- 7:45Speaker 3: for guys who want to be professional football players, this
- 7:47Speaker 3: is the time.
- 7:48Speaker 4: John.
- 7:49Speaker 3: If you're going to sign a guy from the Jaguars
- 7:51Speaker 3: from the twenty twenty fourteen, you're gonna go look at
- 7:53Speaker 3: these games when things aren't going well. How did he respond?
- 7:57Speaker 3: How did he play? Was the effort there? Or Playing
- 8:00Speaker 3: with pride means playing for yourself in that sense.
- 8:03Speaker 5: And maybe as important is acting with pride meaning a
- 8:07Speaker 5: coach's talk, players talk. You can look okay on tape
- 8:12Speaker 5: and not be playing within the scheme, be sort of
- 8:15Speaker 5: quitting in the locker room if you will, and playing selfishly.
- 8:18Speaker 4: So that's part of it too.
- 8:20Speaker 5: That's always to me sort of the danger in this
- 8:22Speaker 5: time of year when guys go off script and try
- 8:24Speaker 5: to play hero ball, so that's part of being a professional. Look,
- 8:30Speaker 5: I think these guys will stick together as much as
- 8:31Speaker 5: you can. I think from an adrenaline or from an
- 8:36Speaker 5: inside motivation point of view. It's hard to have what
- 8:40Speaker 5: I call like that extra one percent at the top.
- 8:44Speaker 4: But I guess the schedule gets easier, so that's something,
- 8:50Speaker 4: all right.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Stay with us here on jagxam. Coming up after the break,
- 8:52Speaker 1: we'll look at some of the tape from yesterday's game
- 8:54Speaker 1: against the Texans. Gags fans Register your free friend for

- 9:16Speaker 7: Sports very emotional, especially when something like that happens, and
- 9:21Speaker 7: we definitely came together as a team and fought hard,
- 9:23Speaker 7: you know, for Trevor came up short at the end,
- 9:25Speaker 7: but I feel like the guys responded, and obviously Trevor's
- 9:29Speaker 7: safety is the most important we out. I feel like
- 9:31Speaker 7: we moved forward and tried to win it.
- 9:33Speaker 1: For Trevor mac Jones talking about coming into the game
- 9:37Speaker 1: and that hit on Trevor Lawrence and the emotions that
- 9:39Speaker 1: it sparked the entire team.
- 9:41Speaker 4: We're gonna go over.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Some of the highlights from yesterday and we're gonna look
- 9:43Speaker 1: at that brawl. We're gonna look at that hit just
- 9:44Speaker 1: one time, because I've seen it enough. I'm sure you
- 9:46Speaker 1: guys don't need to see it again. We're gonna watch
- 9:47Speaker 1: it once and then we're gonna talk about kind of
- 9:49Speaker 1: what happened afterwards, because I think that's very telling, especially
- 9:52Speaker 1: a team that we regard as the Jaguars, which are
- 9:54Speaker 1: pretty measured, not overly emotional. We don't see a lot
- 9:56Speaker 1: of dumb stuff, but that was a visceral reaction, and
- 9:59Speaker 1: I you can't blame Evan Ingram whatsoever because that was
- 10:03Speaker 1: my first reaction was, Oh my goodness, Like, and that's
- 10:06Speaker 1: your quarterback? That is going to be your response?
- 10:08Speaker 3: Yes, I mean yes, that that all you I expected
- 10:13Speaker 3: to see that. Listen, John, I bet you had the
- 10:14Speaker 3: same thought as he turned the corner and was it
- 10:16Speaker 3: about the forty seven forty eight yard line. I'm like, Trevor,
- 10:19Speaker 3: slide slide, here, make sure to slide, and he did
- 10:22Speaker 3: anything and then he takes that blow.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean.
- 10:25Speaker 3: I you couldn't ask for you couldn't ask for anything more.
- 10:30Speaker 5: Well, and again there was something about how extended it
- 10:35Speaker 5: was and the Houston player's reaction.
- 10:41Speaker 4: They weren't jumping in there. Well there.
- 10:48Speaker 5: I can't even ask the guy's name because I don't
- 10:49Speaker 5: want to. No, the guy had a shire, Yeah, so whatever,
- 10:53Speaker 5: because he's a thug, you know. And he's like, he
- 10:57Speaker 5: didn't go into stands there because he wouldn't have won.
- 11:01Speaker 5: There was something about the way he reacted to what
- 11:05Speaker 5: to what the Jaguars players did when they responded. Clearly
- 11:09Speaker 5: Jaguars players went after him in a way that's unusual
- 11:12Speaker 5: in a football fight because usually football fights, like I say,
- 11:16Speaker 5: there's like padded people hitting padded people. Yeah, they went
- 11:20Speaker 5: after him because the way you would in a street
- 11:24Speaker 5: fight where you're protecting a guy because you tried to
- 11:27Speaker 5: hurt a player. This wasn't something you said, this was
- 11:31Speaker 5: the Jaguars players reacted as if there was intent to
- 11:34Speaker 5: injure there was, which there was, So that's why it
- 11:39Speaker 5: kept extending. Usually football fights, I haven't seen one ever
- 11:42Speaker 5: going that long.
- 11:42Speaker 4: That was like a hockey fight side and.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Then it restarted because he didn't when he was kicked
- 11:46Speaker 1: out of the game, he came across the field and
- 11:48Speaker 1: tried to start fighting again.
- 11:49Speaker 5: Right.
- 11:49Speaker 4: It came after Brant and Sheriff, which would have gone badly. Yeah,
- 11:52Speaker 4: Brandon Sheriff took his helmet off.
- 11:53Speaker 3: So you want to do this, right, let's do this.
- 11:55Speaker 3: You loved to see the fight. You hated the reason
- 11:58Speaker 3: for the fight, but you loved to see the fight.
- 12:00Speaker 3: If you get a chance, and you will see it.
- 12:02Speaker 3: There's an end zone view of Trevor running and sliding
- 12:05Speaker 3: and you see Lassiter, the rookie defensive back.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Uh put hands.
- 12:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean he he's a rookie and he knew
- 12:12Speaker 3: the rest of the team. Right again, I go back
- 12:15Speaker 3: to what we talked about off the top. His teammates
- 12:18Speaker 3: should be all over him. This week they were all yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 12:20Speaker 3: we ride with him.
- 12:21Speaker 4: No, no, that's not who we are.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Well, it also says something about the Texans, and we've
- 12:26Speaker 1: seen them. They've been playing, played really well at the
- 12:28Speaker 1: end of last year. This year they've been having issues
- 12:30Speaker 1: and it's undisciplined because either you're training them to play
- 12:33Speaker 1: that way, which I don't believe Demigo Ryan's is doing
- 12:36Speaker 1: or he's undisciplined, he's making plays like that. As soon
- 12:38Speaker 1: as this happened, all the film comes out, whether it's
- 12:40Speaker 1: against the Bears in week two, whether it's against Tom
- 12:43Speaker 1: Brady when he was with the forty nine ers. There's
- 12:46Speaker 1: past hits, even against the Titans last week. So this
- 12:48Speaker 1: is something he's been doing and been getting away with.
- 12:50Speaker 1: So clearly that's something that you're unintentionally endorsing.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Two things that stood out, One the way that they
- 12:55Speaker 3: react and the ferocity with which they reacted. And then
- 12:59Speaker 3: they pounded the ball down their throats and they probably
- 13:01Speaker 3: get a touchdown if Breton Strangers can't call it were holding.
- 13:04Speaker 3: That's important because you can't let these guys think they're
- 13:07Speaker 3: bullying you. They've already won most of the games in
- 13:09Speaker 3: the series going back to two thousand and two. You
- 13:11Speaker 3: need to let it stops right here right. You're not
- 13:14Speaker 3: doing that to our quarterback and you're not doing that
- 13:16Speaker 3: to us.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Here we go. It was interesting. I don't play too
- 13:19Speaker 4: much into this that.
- 13:22Speaker 5: A the Jaguars clearly were pointed and had been told
- 13:26Speaker 5: either by officials or coaches.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Look, they're gonna start put throwing people out of the
- 13:30Speaker 4: game if we do anything more.
- 13:32Speaker 5: The Texans players, even after that brawl, they had no
- 13:35Speaker 5: residual so I'm not sure that they were that ride
- 13:39Speaker 5: or die with the whole situation. It'll be it'll be
- 13:44Speaker 5: a little interesting to see how the Texans respond to that,
- 13:46Speaker 5: what happens to him next offseason, if they want that
- 13:49Speaker 5: element of their team, because.
- 13:50Speaker 3: It was he's a captain, you know, he has a
- 13:53Speaker 3: seat on this.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Chest, Well, then then that's pathetic, not good.
- 13:58Speaker 3: That's the first thing I would do if I were
- 13:59Speaker 3: Dinny go R. We're going to remove that just because
- 14:01Speaker 3: it sends a bad message.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Right now, let's skip over Texans touchdowns. Will move past that,
- 14:06Speaker 1: but let's talk a little bit about the response from
- 14:07Speaker 1: the team, at least offensively late in that game, when
- 14:10Speaker 1: they were down quite big at that point and could
- 14:12Speaker 1: have easily tapped out, but you know, wanting to battle
- 14:15Speaker 1: back for your injured quarterback. Parker Washington didn't start off great,
- 14:18Speaker 1: but kind of figure things out late and maybe it
- 14:21Speaker 1: helps that. You know, he probably gets a decent amount
- 14:23Speaker 1: of reps with Mac Jones, so he saw that kind
- 14:24Speaker 1: of come through in the end, and you're going to
- 14:26Speaker 1: need to see more from him, whether it's this year
- 14:27Speaker 1: or next year, because at this point he's becoming a
- 14:30Speaker 1: bigger part of the offense.
- 14:31Speaker 3: Well, I think he's a guy that they identified last
- 14:34Speaker 3: year when they drafted him to be a Christian.
- 14:36Speaker 4: Kirk kind of player.
- 14:37Speaker 3: And you know, he had he had a couple of
- 14:39Speaker 3: painful drops and then he went high up for that one.
- 14:42Speaker 3: He's not very tall five foot nine, but the extension there,
- 14:45Speaker 3: the desire, that's what I like about Parker. He plays
- 14:48Speaker 3: with great desire and to.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Turn up the field and get into the end zone.
- 14:52Speaker 3: It was great to see.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Yeah, he's a player.
- 14:55Speaker 5: He's going to get as much as he can from
- 14:58Speaker 5: what he is, right, I mean, so he's a guy
- 15:02Speaker 5: you want on your team. I don't know that you
- 15:04Speaker 5: want him in the ex alpha role, but he's he
- 15:09Speaker 5: can fit in to a good balanced receiving core and
- 15:16Speaker 5: he's exactly the sort of player Brian. Even though he's
- 15:19Speaker 5: not technically a you know that young anymore, he's in
- 15:22Speaker 5: a second year, he's the kind of player these last
- 15:25Speaker 5: five games could be.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Really incredibly important for you know, he's a guy, he's
- 15:30Speaker 3: not fluid like Christian kirkis, but he's explosive and we've
- 15:34Speaker 3: seen that from him and opposite Brian Thomas going forward, right,
- 15:37Speaker 3: I mean, you need more, you need another one. But
- 15:39Speaker 3: with Brian Thomas and Parker Washington, you've got the nucleus
- 15:41Speaker 3: of something that could be really good.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Let's talking a little bit of a Brian Thomas Junior've
- 15:45Speaker 1: been talking about how he has n't been getting the
- 15:47Speaker 1: ball enough. They found a way to get him the
- 15:48Speaker 1: ball in this game, got a touchdown and you know,
- 15:51Speaker 1: they got him involved in the running game a little
- 15:53Speaker 1: bit there as well. Nice to see some from him
- 15:56Speaker 1: because we haven't seen a ton.
- 15:57Speaker 5: From him recently. Well, it's hard as rocky wide receiver.
- 16:01Speaker 5: When there's starting quarterback, back up quarterback, up quarterback, starting quarterback,
- 16:05Speaker 5: you can't run, so the offense is not able to
- 16:10Speaker 5: get into flows.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Coaches to talk about that a lot. When you're three
- 16:13Speaker 4: and out, three and out.
- 16:15Speaker 5: It's hard to get to the plays in the situations
- 16:18Speaker 5: where you've gained planned for. So the fact that Brian
- 16:24Speaker 5: Thomas Junior has produced given his opportunities when they can
- 16:30Speaker 5: get going offensively and give him.
- 16:33Speaker 4: A broader.
- 16:36Speaker 7: Bunch.
- 16:37Speaker 4: Yeah, when you work with words worth of your work.
- 16:39Speaker 5: I've heard you know, the fact that he's doing it
- 16:43Speaker 5: now and limited chances really bodes well when he's a
- 16:47Speaker 5: second year player coming into his own all that stuff.
- 16:49Speaker 4: He's a rock star. Listen.
- 16:51Speaker 3: I like that he got open on two deep balls. Now,
- 16:55Speaker 3: Trevor under threw him and Mac Jones overthrew him. But
- 16:58Speaker 3: he's lined up against Darryl Stingley, not Darryl Derek Stingley.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Darryl was a great receiver back in the seventies. Agains Stanley,
- 17:06Speaker 3: who's one of the best young corners in the game,
- 17:07Speaker 3: I mean, a really talented player, and he beat him
- 17:10Speaker 3: twice on the deep balls. And if the Jags quarterbacks
- 17:12Speaker 3: manage to connect with him, I mean he has a
- 17:14Speaker 3: monster day. The sky is the limit for him. There's
- 17:18Speaker 3: so much upward potential. Again, you pair him with Parker
- 17:22Speaker 3: Washington and another young receiver, you really have something.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:26Speaker 5: There's a lot of okay players on this team who
- 17:29Speaker 5: make things look difficult, right, Brian Thomas Junior is a
- 17:33Speaker 5: gifted player who makes difficult things look easy, very very easy.
- 17:36Speaker 1: All right, stay with us. We're gonna give you our
- 17:37Speaker 1: hot takes. When you come back after the break, move
- 17:46Speaker 1: the frame, move the freight. Magellan Transport. What is the
- 17:48Speaker 1: coolest office space in Jackson? Really you can apply online
- 17:50Speaker 1: at Magellanlogistics dot com.
- 17:54Speaker 6: The type of player that he that he is to
- 17:59Speaker 6: really get him, you know, get him locked up. And
- 18:01Speaker 6: I think for him too. I mean it's a little
- 18:03Speaker 6: little peace of mind knowing he can be here, you know,
- 18:07Speaker 6: for the long, long haul. So I'm excited for him
- 18:11Speaker 6: and his family. It's a great, great opportunity, great for
- 18:14Speaker 6: the organization obviously in our team, and excited for him.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Doug Peterson talking about offensive lineman Walker Little, who got
- 18:22Speaker 1: a long term extension during the season which we don't
- 18:26Speaker 1: see very often, and before the game yesterday, so that
- 18:28Speaker 1: news coming out. So now you're starting left tackle. He
- 18:31Speaker 1: took over since Cam Robinson was traded in October, and
- 18:33Speaker 1: apparently they saw enough to lock him up long term.
- 18:35Speaker 1: And we're going to do our firehouse subs hot takes Brian.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Well, I'm going in. So I think it's a good
- 18:41Speaker 3: deal for the Jaguars. Three years forty five is the report,
- 18:44Speaker 3: twenty six million guaranteed. Look, it's a two year, twenty
- 18:48Speaker 3: six million dollar deal essentially, so at thirteen million per
- 18:51Speaker 3: even at fifteen million per that's John that's like thirty
- 18:56Speaker 3: ninth or fortieth in terms of highest paid offensive tackles
- 18:59Speaker 3: in the league. For a guy who went on the
- 19:01Speaker 3: field yesterday against one of the best pass rushing duos,
- 19:03Speaker 3: Will Anderson and Daniel Hunter and they didn't sniff the quarterback.
- 19:07Speaker 3: He played really really well yesterday. So I mean, I
- 19:10Speaker 3: know there's a lot of people try what does this mean.
- 19:12Speaker 3: It means that in a year where the offensive tackle
- 19:14Speaker 3: crop in both free agency and the draft is not
- 19:16Speaker 3: very good, next spring, you've got a guy that's been
- 19:19Speaker 3: coming on. Jeff Logaman told us in a pregame radio
- 19:22Speaker 3: interview yesterday that Walker Little has been playing his best
- 19:25Speaker 3: football since Cam was traded and he went into the lineup.
- 19:28Speaker 3: So it's a good move for the Jaguars because it's
- 19:31Speaker 3: not one of those mega Trent Williams one hundred and
- 19:34Speaker 3: sixty million dollar a year deals. Yeah, it's an extension,
- 19:38Speaker 3: but it's really a two year extension, and I think
- 19:41Speaker 3: that's a smart move for a player that you still
- 19:43Speaker 3: want to prove more. You still want to see more
- 19:45Speaker 3: football from him and to see him play at a
- 19:47Speaker 3: high level. But yesterday it seemed like a really good deal.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Yeah, they were in a little bit of a weird
- 19:53Speaker 5: spot because the offensive line has not been powerful and
- 19:57Speaker 5: now you're sort of brought Walker little and now the
- 20:00Speaker 5: narrative is, well, they're still going to bring back most
- 20:03Speaker 5: of that offensive line.
- 20:04Speaker 4: What changes.
- 20:06Speaker 5: At the same time, as Brian said, you have to
- 20:09Speaker 5: look at the terrain, how are you going to address this? Well,
- 20:15Speaker 5: we have somebody in house who can do this. We
- 20:17Speaker 5: don't want to be deficient at this position. Also, Trent
- 20:21Speaker 5: has said in the past, Trent Balkey, he doesn't negotiate
- 20:23Speaker 5: during the season, and so he resigns this guy. So
- 20:26Speaker 5: that is going to create noise. I think it was
- 20:31Speaker 5: the right move to push through that noise, right, and hey,
- 20:35Speaker 5: I'm sure Trent knew I'm going to hear about that
- 20:38Speaker 5: because I've said it. But we need to do this.
- 20:41Speaker 5: I don't think it means anything about what happens after
- 20:45Speaker 5: the season. I don't know what's going to happen after
- 20:46Speaker 5: the season. But I don't think this move is necessarily
- 20:50Speaker 5: the harbinger that people think it is.
- 20:51Speaker 3: It isn't who made the decision as important is that
- 20:55Speaker 3: how the decision was made and what they did, and
- 20:58Speaker 3: in those categories, it was a good move for a
- 21:01Speaker 3: football team. I get it, I want the offensive line
- 21:03Speaker 3: to play a much more physical style of play, but
- 21:06Speaker 3: let's be honest, that mostly comes from the left guard
- 21:09Speaker 3: to the right tackle. Your left tackle is more of
- 21:11Speaker 3: a finesse player unless you have a Tony Boselli. So
- 21:14Speaker 3: they can still improve this offensive line, and they better
- 21:16Speaker 3: do that. I just think Walker Little gives you something
- 21:19Speaker 3: you can work with, as opposed to saying, you know what,
- 21:21Speaker 3: let's move Anton Harrison over. He's only played right tackle,
- 21:23Speaker 3: and we're going to move Javon Foster. Javon Foster anyone
- 21:27Speaker 3: fourth round pick from Missouri, right, Yeah, I mean I
- 21:30Speaker 3: think he's a talented guy. But this is something that
- 21:32Speaker 3: you can count on no matter who you are, who
- 21:34Speaker 3: the offensive line coaches, who the head coaches, who the
- 21:37Speaker 3: general manager is. It's a good move for the Jaguars
- 21:40Speaker 3: roster and salary cap.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Hot takes for you, John to I'm going to remind
- 21:45Speaker 1: you it was virtual elimination and fitting fashion.
- 21:51Speaker 5: But yeah, yeah, the elimination AFC South, which in their scenarios,
- 21:56Speaker 5: if there was a path and it was a path
- 21:58Speaker 5: with a lot of obstacles on it. Anyway, it was
- 22:00Speaker 5: the Ac South look. Sort of the same things bit him.
- 22:04Speaker 5: If you take the Trevor play out of it and
- 22:06Speaker 5: just look at it. They started slow offensively in the
- 22:12Speaker 5: big moments in the second half when it was six
- 22:14Speaker 5: to six for the game is in the balance, three
- 22:16Speaker 5: straight touchdown drives by the Texans, and then at the
- 22:18Speaker 5: end again what would have been harping on all season, big
- 22:22Speaker 5: play at the big moment, third and four, couldn't stop
- 22:24Speaker 5: tang Dell. It sort of felt fitting that this team
- 22:29Speaker 5: would lose a five point or less game decided in
- 22:33Speaker 5: the last two minutes where they fought, which they fought
- 22:36Speaker 5: all year in this situation.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Couldn't quite close it.
- 22:39Speaker 5: If the door was gonna get shut, it may as
- 22:43Speaker 5: well get shut in the way it's been shut all year.
- 22:44Speaker 3: And you know, it's technically still that much open. If
- 22:49Speaker 3: the drag Wars went out and the Broncos lose out right,
- 22:53Speaker 3: the minute the Broncos win a game, it is absolutely
- 22:55Speaker 3: slammed in a field probably Monday night football. Absolutely, Yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 3: all of the reasons that you laid out there. They
- 23:02Speaker 3: came out of the two minute warning facing third down
- 23:05Speaker 3: and four, and they knew what was coming. They knew
- 23:07Speaker 3: by formation, and they knew what Mixon was gonna do.
- 23:10Speaker 3: They talked about it, they knew, and they gave up
- 23:13Speaker 3: eight yards. They didn't give up four, they gave up eight.
- 23:16Speaker 3: That's been the problem all year, in those big moments
- 23:19Speaker 3: where you need this defense to power.
- 23:20Speaker 4: Up, they didn't.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Couldn't get it done. Mine is a little bit in
- 23:26Speaker 1: response to maybe something I already felt or knew. Evan
- 23:29Speaker 1: Ingram is the ultimate teammate to me. We've known that
- 23:31Speaker 1: off the field, how he is as a person, good guy,
- 23:33Speaker 1: award in the locker room, a great teammate his career
- 23:36Speaker 1: year last year. But his immediate response to Trevor Lawrence,
- 23:38Speaker 1: if you didn't have a visceral reaction, I really can't
- 23:41Speaker 1: relate to you because that was my visceral reaction to
- 23:43Speaker 1: see Evan Ingram defend his quarterback. That's someone you want
- 23:47Speaker 1: to build a team around. That's someone you can relate
- 23:49Speaker 1: to and listen. I'm not going to condone violence or whatnot,
- 23:52Speaker 1: but I mean that is a response that I feel,
- 23:55Speaker 1: in a physical game of football, is warranted. In twenty
- 23:58Speaker 1: twenty four, when it hit like that isn't allowed anymore,
- 24:00Speaker 1: and it's not something the league allows, and they want
- 24:03Speaker 1: to take out of the game. And that was a
- 24:04Speaker 1: fitting response from your teammate. And I would be proud
- 24:07Speaker 1: to be on a team with them any one percent.
- 24:09Speaker 3: And listen, we used to say football was a violent game.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Now we say it's a physical game, right for all
- 24:14Speaker 3: the connotations that come with that. It's not a nice game.
- 24:17Speaker 3: And when you get a hit like that, the nice
- 24:20Speaker 3: side of Ingram, the not nice side of every player
- 24:23Speaker 3: has got to come out. If you don't have that
- 24:25Speaker 3: not nice side, I'm not sure I want you on
- 24:27Speaker 3: my team. I need you to play with an edge,
- 24:31Speaker 3: with an anger, and when someone does that to one
- 24:34Speaker 3: of your teammates, that anger better comes pouring out like
- 24:37Speaker 3: a water phone.
- 24:37Speaker 4: I get. The head coach afterwards was very measured, and.
- 24:40Speaker 3: He talked about guys not coming off the sidelines, and
- 24:43Speaker 3: I get all that, But if Doug hadn't seen what
- 24:46Speaker 3: he saw, he would have been at the podium afterwards going, hey,
- 24:49Speaker 3: where were we that's our quarterback?
- 24:50Speaker 5: Right.
- 24:51Speaker 1: If that doesn't bring out something in you, I just
- 24:54Speaker 1: can't relate to that.
- 24:55Speaker 4: I can't tell here.
- 24:56Speaker 5: And I thought Evan handled it all well, meaning there
- 24:59Speaker 5: were and I think even me two a degree is like, hey, retaliate,
- 25:05Speaker 5: go get somebody.
- 25:07Speaker 4: There are fans who are feeling.
- 25:08Speaker 5: That, oh, why didn't the Jaguars draw eight personal foul
- 25:11Speaker 5: penalties in the second half? And well Evan said after
- 25:14Speaker 5: the game, look, we're still trying to win the game. Yeah,
- 25:17Speaker 5: So to have gone more than they did, I think
- 25:21Speaker 5: would have been irresponsible as stands any fan watching that.
- 25:27Speaker 5: I don't know how uch NFL you watched, but that
- 25:30Speaker 5: fight extended. I mean, that kept going. You can't deny
- 25:35Speaker 5: that it was an emotional reaction and that it was
- 25:39Speaker 5: something more than your normal football fight. So I don't
- 25:41Speaker 5: think the Jaguars responded passively in any way to that
- 25:45Speaker 5: thing yesterday.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Listen, I think Doug's only complained with Jerry and Jones
- 25:48Speaker 3: coming off the sideline and swinging.
- 25:50Speaker 4: That's a bit. Other than that.
- 25:52Speaker 3: He had to be thrilled with what he saw from
- 25:54Speaker 3: his reaction.
- 25:55Speaker 1: To season fight, especially at this point in the season.
- 25:56Speaker 1: As we talked about, you know, at this point there's
- 25:59Speaker 1: not a lot to fight, but you're gonna fight for
- 26:00Speaker 1: your guy no matter what. Say, let's we'll talk a
- 26:02Speaker 1: little bit about what's coming up the rest of the
- 26:04Speaker 1: week here on.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Jack Zam.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Jaggs.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Fans do want customized Jaguars furniture for your home, check
- 26:11Speaker 1: out zipcher dot com to rouse all the customizable options.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Zip Chair is furniture for fans.
- 26:18Speaker 2: You can still be a dog and you can still
- 26:19Speaker 2: whip somebody and be this one. That's That's kind of
- 26:23Speaker 2: what our message was was do it the right way.
- 26:26Speaker 2: We know what we wanted to do, we know how
- 26:28Speaker 2: that made us feel, but it's our job to do
- 26:30Speaker 2: it the right way so we could keep our heads
- 26:32Speaker 2: and stay in the game. So no, I think there's
- 26:35Speaker 2: still there's still a way to handle something, but doing
- 26:38Speaker 2: it the right way and having discipline in that.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I think I'm talking about getting your get back, but
- 26:42Speaker 1: then still trying to win that game. As we mentioned,
- 26:45Speaker 1: going about it the right way, as they showed some
- 26:47Speaker 1: passion fight for their quarterback after that incident when Trevor
- 26:50Speaker 1: Lawrence was taken out of the game and we finally
- 26:51Speaker 1: saw something out of the offense, which was good because
- 26:53Speaker 1: it's going forward. More than likely we're gonna see Mac
- 26:55Speaker 1: Jones at least for a little bit here.
- 26:57Speaker 3: I thought it spoke well of Doug Peterson and his
- 27:00Speaker 3: staff that they didn't go crazy and start swinging out Again.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Going back to the nineties, I can remember a couple
- 27:06Speaker 3: of games where guys were thrown out, multiple guys thrown out,
- 27:10Speaker 3: and that gets coaches fired. I mean, that's embarrassing when
- 27:14Speaker 3: your team can't play.
- 27:15Speaker 4: So a lot of respect for the way.
- 27:18Speaker 3: That they handled it, in the fact that Evan Ingram
- 27:20Speaker 3: was there in the locker room and very measured, and
- 27:21Speaker 3: all the players were very measured. By the way Travon
- 27:24Speaker 3: Walker same thing. I mean, everybody kept it. They didn't
- 27:27Speaker 3: let their emotion out afterwards, which was good to see.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:29Speaker 5: I talked to Treyvon on the way out of the
- 27:31Speaker 5: locker room after he got the podium, and I was like,
- 27:33Speaker 5: as a hit, he goes, Yeah, there was stuff I
- 27:35Speaker 5: wanted to say that I didn't and I only say
- 27:40Speaker 5: that in it. They didn't want to react on camera,
- 27:43Speaker 5: they didn't want to turn it into a thing, but
- 27:46Speaker 5: there was Again, it was different. There was an anger
- 27:50Speaker 5: and an acknowledgment of that was wrong and out that
- 27:54Speaker 5: was outside of the rules of the.
- 27:56Speaker 4: Game and outside of the ethics.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Of the game, I think, and the Players Association has
- 28:01Speaker 3: to come down hard on him.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I think that's something that lingers as well. I don't
- 28:04Speaker 1: want to speak too much into it because I know
- 28:06Speaker 1: players leave teams and what long. But that's something people
- 28:09Speaker 1: that'll stick in your mind, and it's the fan base
- 28:11Speaker 1: will stick with but it's also teams and players that
- 28:13Speaker 1: are here that sticks with you. And when you have
- 28:15Speaker 1: rivalries like this, you know, I go back to Baseball,
- 28:18Speaker 1: Red Sox, Yankees, whatever it is, those things linger and
- 28:20Speaker 1: it continues. And not advocating for more violence, but I'm
- 28:23Speaker 1: just saying that the tenacity of those games will change.
- 28:26Speaker 1: I think going forward.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Curious how the Texans handle it. I have a lot
- 28:29Speaker 3: of respect for Dmiico Ryans. I think he's an excellent coach.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Be interesting to see what they do.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Something to keep an eye on this week. We'll see
- 28:35Speaker 1: if there's any fines or suspensions in terms of that
- 28:37Speaker 1: hit on Trevor Lawrence. And we'll also see whether Trevor
- 28:40Speaker 1: Lawrence what his status will be the rest of the season.
- 28:42Speaker 1: He was already dealing with a shoulder injury and now
- 28:44Speaker 1: in concussion protocol. So we will be back with you
- 28:47Speaker 1: on Wednesday to talk a little bit about that, and
- 28:49Speaker 1: then the upcoming game in Tennessee this week
