- 0:00Speaker 1: Big Ten injury report last night.
- 0:02Speaker 2: The thing that stood out to me is that Washington
- 0:05Speaker 2: has five running backs, either doubtful, questionable, or out.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Five.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Are there any left?
- 0:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that's been, I mean, they've been hit with injuries bad,
- 0:17Speaker 3: you know, in that little slump they've gone through. Obviously,
- 0:19Speaker 3: the quarterback position with DeMond Williams, but, yeah, the running
- 0:23Speaker 3: back position for Washington has been an issue for Trey Cooley,
- 0:29Speaker 3: who rushed for 113 yards at Purdue, is also, it says, questionable.
- 0:35Speaker 3: I guess he hurt his AC joint in that game
- 0:37Speaker 3: against Purdue. So Landon Hatchett, their captain, their starting center,
- 0:43Speaker 3: this week announced he's done for the year. So they're
- 0:46Speaker 3: a beat-up team. They've been through a lot of injuries
- 0:49Speaker 3: this year as well.
- 0:51Speaker 2: And they're just not very good on offense. Their defense
- 0:54Speaker 2: has had moments, but offensively, We remember what they looked
- 0:57Speaker 2: like two, three years ago when they and Oregon were
- 1:00Speaker 2: just such dominant forces in the Pac-12 conference. The next
- 1:04Speaker 2: thing you know, there are no athletes left up there.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Has it been injuries? Is it NIL?
- 1:10Speaker 1: What's been the issue? Because they were preseason top 20.
- 1:12Speaker 3: I don't know if there's one thing particularly. The league
- 1:19Speaker 3: is better, obviously, than what it has been in some
- 1:22Speaker 3: areas and They haven't adjusted in some areas. Devon Williams
- 1:27Speaker 3: was the big one. They went all in on him
- 1:29Speaker 3: to be their quarterback. Lane Kiffin tried to poach him
- 1:32Speaker 3: after he signed his contract. He was a big public squabble,
- 1:36Speaker 3: and he stayed in Seattle because he kind of had
- 1:38Speaker 3: to stay. But they're paying their quarterback almost $ 5 million.
- 1:43Speaker 3: When he was playing, he wasn't playing well. He takes
- 1:46Speaker 3: a lot of sacks, and he He's had a game
- 1:48Speaker 3: in his career where he's taken 10 sacks for contacts.
- 1:50Speaker 3: I think he took seven or eight sacks in a
- 1:53Speaker 3: game earlier this year. It just hasn't worked at times.
- 1:57Speaker 3: For Jed Fish, there's a lot of pressure on him
- 2:00Speaker 3: this week. He's coming into Lincoln, I'll tell you this much,
- 2:03Speaker 3: he's going to bring everything he has this weekend. For him,
- 2:05Speaker 3: it was a pivotal game in his tenure in Seattle.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah, he took over a program that Kalen DeBoer had
- 2:11Speaker 2: in the playoffs, and then DeBoer takes off for Alabama.
- 2:14Speaker 2: to replace Nick Saban. Fish was at Arizona at the time.
- 2:18Speaker 2: It was a difficult job to fill because they had
- 2:20Speaker 2: to find somebody who they thought actually was on the
- 2:23Speaker 2: same level with DeBoer, who I still believe.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Is one of the better coaches in college football, and
- 2:28Speaker 1: it's been hard for them.
- 2:29Speaker 2: They have plenty of money up there and a lot
- 2:30Speaker 2: of fan support, and of course it's a beautiful city
- 2:33Speaker 2: in which to live if you're a college kid, but
- 2:36Speaker 2: it has not worked out for Washington.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Conversely, Nebraska's injury list is pretty light.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Other than Jones, Anthony Jones, and Jameer Khan, anybody you
- 2:46Speaker 2: think might not be able to play on Saturday?
- 2:49Speaker 3: Well, I just think keep your eyes on both Isaiah
- 2:52Speaker 3: Mosey and Riley Van Poppel. Both have, you know, had
- 2:56Speaker 3: their different things. Van Poppel, the back injury, we just
- 2:58Speaker 3: haven't seen him in about a month. So you hope
- 3:01Speaker 3: he's back in some capacity. And then Mosey, can he
- 3:05Speaker 3: play in that role? But Not seeing Jamal Rule on
- 3:08Speaker 3: there at all. Not seeing Mekhi Nelson. I thought that
- 3:12Speaker 3: was very promising for Nebraska. And that's what they said
- 3:15Speaker 3: on Monday or Tuesday when we talked to the coaches.
- 3:17Speaker 3: But you never know on these injury reports what they're
- 3:20Speaker 3: going to put out there on Wednesday. And I think
- 3:22Speaker 3: Nebraska coming out of the bye is in a good spot.
- 3:24Speaker 3: You know, Jameer Khan we'll see eventually down the road
- 3:28Speaker 3: if he can get himself back. But he's obviously not
- 3:30Speaker 3: going to play this week.
- 3:31Speaker 2: The other big story is that Troy Dannen, athletics director
- 3:34Speaker 2: on the radio the other night, said we're going to
- 3:36Speaker 2: dump one of these non-conference games and get somebody good.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Fans were pretty howly about it. They are playing one
- 3:42Speaker 2: of those games down at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It seems to me the best bet would be to
- 3:47Speaker 2: dump Miami of Ohio out of that game and get
- 3:50Speaker 2: a power four conference team like Arizona State in there.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Is that what you're hearing?
- 3:57Speaker 3: Yeah, Arizona State, I know they've had talks with. They
- 3:59Speaker 3: play eight home games already, so it does work out
- 4:04Speaker 3: that they could give up one and play neutral. The
- 4:07Speaker 3: only thing I question or wonder about would be the
- 4:09Speaker 3: financial splits, because today Nebraska would get a huge gate
- 4:14Speaker 3: from Miami to Ohio if you switch that to agree
- 4:17Speaker 3: to Arizona State. What would the splits be on a
- 4:21Speaker 3: game like that, knowing that 95% of the place would
- 4:25Speaker 3: be Nebraska fans? Or how much of that are you
- 4:27Speaker 3: willing to give to them to fill that spot? Because
- 4:30Speaker 3: one of the big reasons that you took the Arrowhead
- 4:32Speaker 3: game was for the bump in revenue because of the 20,000
- 4:36Speaker 3: less seats that you're going to have. I mean, you
- 4:39Speaker 3: can go back and study Cincinnati. They made a huge
- 4:41Speaker 3: gate off Nebraska fans last time we were down in Arrowhead.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Because that was a Cincinnati home game technically, financially.
- 4:47Speaker 2: All right, Shano. Thanks, big guy. Great having you. We'll
- 4:50Speaker 2: have the keys to the game tomorrow in this space.
- 4:53Speaker 2: So please rearrange your schedule to be available for that.
