- 0:00And we're twenty one of fifty five, thirty eight, eleven of twenty six
- 0:03from three, and six of ten from the free throw line. As Chris
- 0:07Daly is already bundled up ready for the bus ride back to Connecticut, ready
- 0:12to go. This was a this was a gut check tonight. Seeing all
- 0:14made it tough and they went two three zone. But your team answered the
- 0:18bell in the fourth quarter and the put this one away. We did.
- 0:21I thought we came out a little bit slow in the third quarter, and
- 0:26I think that they outscored us eighteen ten pretty easily. But you know,
- 0:31it was became a physical game and got a little chippy, and we handled
- 0:36that and made shots. I thought Q came in and gave us a big
- 0:39lift off the bench. Ice and Aaliya. You know, we went big
- 0:43and we were able to get some high low stuff. I thought the first
- 0:46half Page and Aaliyah, we knew they were gonna have to play well,
- 0:49and they played well, and that was why we had the lead. Man.
- 0:52You're talking about the page. I think kk I'd mentioned you don't get
- 0:58page fired up because boy and she decided she wants to go to the whole
- 1:02and get three point plays and everything. She gets her game zone, not
- 1:04that she doesn't have it any other time, but she seemed to really zero
- 1:07in to protect her teammates. Well, you know, they played well.
- 1:12They made eleven threes. They usually only make five. And even with eleven
- 1:18threes, they they only got to fifty nine, which so we basically held
- 1:21them under their average. They're a tough team to play. They run a
- 1:25lot of offense. They run their stuff all the way through. They try
- 1:27to shorten the game so they you know, we talked about the last time
- 1:30they were running their offense till under ten seconds and they you know, some
- 1:34of those they knocked some of the shots they knocked in at the end,
- 1:37you know, into the shot clock. But this is a good game for
- 1:40us. You know, we need games like this and in an environment like
- 1:42this, and it's gonna happen. You know, there's no rule that says
- 1:47Connecticut has to win by forty every game. And you know, other teams
- 1:51are good and they execute, they play well, they have career nights like
- 1:55they did tonight with their threes, and we just had to you know,
- 1:57handle our own business, and and we did. I thought KK made some
- 2:01big threes I thought Nica handled the ball well, had ten assist again,
- 2:07So you know, to come out of here with the w especially waiting all
- 2:12day having an eight thirty a night game, it's a pain, you know,
- 2:15you have to sit around all day and wait. And although we started
- 2:19school so you can have some study hall and all, but they just started
- 2:22clash yesterday which was canceled, so I don't even know what they studied.
- 2:25But you know, trying to occupy the day, it gets to be a
- 2:29lot. Now we're just happy we won. We'll you know, do some
- 2:32recovery and watch the film tomorrow and then we'll have one day to get ready
- 2:36for DePaul Chris. What was the defensive game plan coming in tonight? Well,
- 2:40well, the kids that we were regarding the shooters fifteen three and twenty
- 2:46three, and those are the kids that we were mostly concerned about on the
- 2:51perimeter from the three point line. It took us a while. I think
- 2:53we got it down right down pat we two minutes ago in the game we
- 2:58got the way we were supposed to be covering the roll and rise. So
- 3:02it took us thirty eight minutes, but we finally got it. So we
- 3:07were trying to leave our big guy in and help in the post and to
- 3:09help inside. And we made some mistakes which they took advantage of, so
- 3:15you know that's a credit to them. Knocked in some shots. We made
- 3:17a couple of mistakes, but we'll have to clean that up. You know.
- 3:21I think DePaul is similar and that they've got three point shooters and they're
- 3:24going to do They probably have more out perimeter, you know, more they
- 3:29play more for out and then they'll roll a guy in their their post player
- 3:31in, but it'll be a handful. And you should know I didn't scout
- 3:37this game because normally when I scout them, they make their best when they
- 3:39read this was not me. Yeah, so well I think they had They
- 3:45played care free, right, and you talked about this was a hostile environment,
- 3:47and you know a lot of times you get more Yukon fans than you
- 3:51do the we did. I mean, I don't know that it was hostile
- 3:53in that way, but except their band, they were fist behind there.
- 4:00But yeah, there were a lot. We had our share of fans people
- 4:03cheering for us, which is nice, but it was you know, Paige
- 4:06had a at a great night. You know, she she's so efficient too.
- 4:12She is efficient, she is and she doesn't get a lot of the
- 4:14calls that she probably should. But you know, hopefully I don't tell her
- 4:18that. Trust right, hopefully she doesn't hear this. Chris plays for you
- 4:23kind you don't get the calls. Come on, now, I don't mean
- 4:25it that way. I just mean, you know, I feel like there
- 4:29there are calls that that that she gets when there's contact or even just you
- 4:32know, people's letting her, people holding and not allowing us to have any
- 4:36kind of free movement, which is supposed to be you know, you're supposed
- 4:41to be able to move. So we'll talk about I think it wasn't easy.
- 4:45There was a lot of holding and crazy stuff on her. I mean
- 4:47all over the place. You know, you really have to be mature,
- 4:50and you really have to keep your composure and handle your business and handle yourself
- 4:56because they want you to respond. The other team is looking for you to
- 5:00respond because once they think you respond, then they think they have an advantage.
- 5:02So the biggest thing is just to keep your composure and playing as part
- 5:06of basketball. We say I say this to you guys all the time.
- 5:09Whoever said it was a non contact sport, right, you have never played,
- 5:12so that's for sure. It's physical. It's supposed to be physical,
- 5:15and it was. So we're happy that we came out with the win.
- 5:17And as I said, we'll get ready for DePaul on Saturday. Superhero Day.
- 5:21You getting dress up as a superhero. I say that jokingly. I
- 5:25know I'm a superhero, but you are a superhero. Congratulations on your recognition.
- 5:30You came and I guess you were one of the top two or three
- 5:33in the CO Sportscaster of the Year. Well that's awesome. Congratulations, thank
- 5:38you, thank you, you're the hero. You're you know it, Chris.
- 5:43It's an honor. I'm glad to do it. I've done this for
- 5:45long, but it's as big an honor, and part of it is because
- 5:47I cover this program. It's been a wonderful program to cover for the twenty
- 5:50plus years and I'm proud to be associated with it. Well, you still
- 5:55have to do the work, so congratula. That's right. Gradually, congratulations.
- 6:00Back to the Grindstone, we go back on the bus. I gotta
- 6:02go on all right, say travel, thank you, Thanks Chris.
