• 2:22
Speaker 3: but we get some breaking news. Hoppy Kerchieval, the dean
• 2:26
Speaker 3: still keeping a close eye on politics in West Virginia,
• 2:29
Speaker 3: is now x sing out post on access. Governor Morrissey
• 2:32
Speaker 3: has fired Mike Graeney uh, the ex director of the
• 2:35
Speaker 3: Division of Economic Development, that according to the X from
• 2:40
Speaker 3: Hoppy posted about thirteen minutes or so ago. I'm sure
• 2:42
Speaker 3: that mister Wilson will get into that more on Talkline

Speaker 3: coming up at ten oh six no TJ this week.
• 2:49
Speaker 3: As he is on vacation somewhere at this hour, he's

Speaker 3: already on a golf course, I promise you.
• 2:54
  Speaker 6: But JB.
• 2:55
Speaker 3: McCuskey not on a golf course. He's working somewhere. The
• 2:57
Speaker 3: Attorney General joined us. Now, good morning and welcome to
• 3:01
  Speaker 3: the show.
• 3:01
Speaker 7: Sir, Hey, good morning. I'm actually on my way home
• 3:04
Speaker 7: from Pittsburgh, there was an awesome AI Energy summit here
• 3:12
Speaker 7: with Senator Dave McCormick and Senator John Fetterman. They are
• 3:16
Speaker 7: announcing one hundred billion dollars worth of new investments into
• 3:22
Speaker 7: the western Pennsylvania region, which I'm certain will lead into
• 3:28
Speaker 7: West Virginia. It was a really great event.
• 3:30
Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I read something about that earlier, mister
• 3:34
Speaker 3: A g And of course, you know Governor Morrisey talked
• 3:37
Speaker 3: about this backyard brawl, if you will, not the athletic
• 3:40
Speaker 3: kind of this other kind that trying to get an advantage.
• 3:43
Speaker 3: So hopefully with this announcement coming out of Pennsylvania, that will,
• 3:46
Speaker 3: as you said, trickle down to West Virginia as well.
• 3:50
Speaker 7: Well, yeah, and it really is. Senator McCormick and Senator
• 3:53
Speaker 7: Fetterman when they're together, are really a great I wish
• 3:59
Speaker 7: all of our politics like those two guys, because they're
• 4:02
Speaker 7: obviously diametrically opposed on a lot of things, but they're
• 4:05
Speaker 7: really good friends, and their wives are really good friends,
• 4:08
Speaker 7: and they hang out and they're cordial, and they work
• 4:11
Speaker 7: together to make Pennsylvania better on the issues that they
• 4:16
Speaker 7: do agree on. It and it's it's really great to see.
• 4:20
Speaker 3: Actually, what a novel approach, JBI, What a.
• 4:23
Speaker 7: Novel approach John Senator Fetterman is very tall. I hadn't
• 4:28
Speaker 7: met him before I got to meet him last night,
• 4:30
Speaker 7: and I think I came up just about to his
• 4:32
  Speaker 7: belly button.
• 4:33
Speaker 3: Okay, So what came out of this? I mean you
• 4:36
Speaker 3: said it was a great conference. What sort of announcements
• 4:39
Speaker 3: came out of this out of Pennsylvania with mister Fetterman
• 4:42
  Speaker 3: and mister McCormick.
• 4:44
Speaker 7: So it's all basically related to AI and the idea
• 4:47
Speaker 7: here is that Pennsylvania is going to sort of become
• 4:53
Speaker 7: a leader in the confluence of fossil fuels and AI.
• 4:59
Speaker 7: And you know, the ass is going to be coming
• 5:01
Speaker 7: from West Virginia. Nicole is going to be coming from
• 5:03
Speaker 7: West Virginia. It's going to be coming from Pennsylvania too.
• 5:05
Speaker 7: But what they're really doing, and the thing that we
• 5:07
Speaker 7: need to emulate in West Virginia is they're leveraging their
• 5:11
Speaker 7: research universities here in Pittsburgh and they are using Carnegie,
• 5:16
Speaker 7: Mellon and pitt et cetera as sort of the jumping
• 5:20
Speaker 7: off points to sort of find this idea that we
• 5:24
Speaker 7: need way more electricity and we need it for AI
• 5:28
Speaker 7: and the binding agent is sort of the research universities,
• 5:32
Speaker 7: which WU is at least as good, if not better
• 5:37
Speaker 7: than both those places. So I would really hope that
• 5:39
Speaker 7: we have a future in.
• 5:43
Speaker 3: This as well. Spoken like a true WV. You gad,
• 5:45
Speaker 3: that's what we love about. Attorney General JB. Mccuskey's here.
• 5:48
Speaker 3: I want to talk to you about these Save Women's
• 5:50
Speaker 3: Sports Act. It was announced earlier this month that the
• 5:53
Speaker 3: US Supreme Court has agreed to hear the State of
• 5:55
Speaker 3: West Virginia in this case. Explain the case and why
• 5:58
  Speaker 3: it's so important.
• 6:00
Speaker 7: Yeah, So, West Virginia's legislature passed a bill that made
• 6:07
Speaker 7: it so that biological boys were no longer allowed to
• 6:10
Speaker 7: play sports against biological girls. And this makes sense, right,
• 6:14
Speaker 7: This is a common sense piece of legislation. It was
• 6:17
Speaker 7: challenged and the Fourth Circuit determined that the law was
• 6:20
Speaker 7: violative of the Constitution and Title nine. We have challenged
• 6:25
Speaker 7: the Fourth Circuit's ruling and the Supreme Court has agreed
• 6:28
Speaker 7: to hear our arguments as to why West Virginia's law, which,
• 6:33
Speaker 7: like I said before, ensures that people with the same
• 6:36
Speaker 7: physical biological characteristics are playing sports against each other is
• 6:42
Speaker 7: legal and constitutional, and we are really really excited to
• 6:46
Speaker 7: get our law back on the books and to win
• 6:49
Speaker 7: this case at Supreme Court.
• 6:50
Speaker 3: And this is getting national attention, as you said, with
• 6:54
Speaker 3: it being the Supreme Court, this is I mean a
• 6:56
Speaker 3: lot of other states are taking a look at what
• 6:58
Speaker 3: West Virginia's doing in this are reign at no pun intended.
• 7:03
Speaker 7: Yeah, well done there, and a great segue by the way,
• 7:06
Speaker 7: But yeah, it is getting national attention. And I think
• 7:10
Speaker 7: the reason it's getting national attention is you see places
• 7:12
Speaker 7: like the University of Pennsylvania, right, these are known northeastern
• 7:17
Speaker 7: liberal colleges. Right, has gone back and awarded medals to
• 7:23
Speaker 7: all of the biological females that were swimming against a
• 7:27
Speaker 7: biological male. And what people are starting to see is
• 7:30
Speaker 7: that this is a common sense policy. It is about fairness.
• 7:33
Speaker 7: It's about ensuring that our girls and our women in
• 7:36
Speaker 7: West Virginia have stage and fair playing fields to showcase
• 7:41
Speaker 7: their talents. Right, They're waking up every day, like we've
• 7:43
Speaker 7: talked about before, preparing for a season in a sport,
• 7:47
Speaker 7: and they want to be able to play against people
• 7:49
Speaker 7: that share their same biological characteristics. And I think that
• 7:53
Speaker 7: makes sense, and our arguments are very very strong in
• 7:57
Speaker 7: favor of West Virginia.
• 7:58
  Speaker 6: Is built Todd.
• 7:59
Speaker 3: Again with the journeyeral.
• 8:00
  Speaker 6: JB.
• 8:00
Speaker 3: McCuskey reminded the vaccines or your rest protections agains severe
• 8:03
Speaker 3: disease from flu in COVID nineteen if you're sixty five,
• 8:06
Speaker 3: for older risk less, do more with the season's vaccines.
• 8:08
Speaker 3: Get started Vaccines dot gov paid for by the US
• 8:11
Speaker 3: Department of Health and Human Services. I haven't heard the
• 8:13
Speaker 3: term liperatur in a while, but there's a case out
• 8:16
Speaker 3: there and the deadline is approaching, JB. In this liperaturre case,
• 8:22
Speaker 3: what's the story here?
• 8:24
Speaker 7: Lipatur? You mean the anti the one that's supposed to
• 8:29
Speaker 7: help your heart correct. Yes, yes, yeah, lipatur. So that
• 8:34
Speaker 7: is a that's the case that was filed by Patrick Morrissey,
• 8:38
Speaker 7: and I believe Doug Buffington was really, really instrumental in
• 8:42
Speaker 7: that case before I got into the AG's office, and
• 8:46
Speaker 7: they won a settlement against the makers of liipatur. And
• 8:50
Speaker 7: if you're somebody in West Virginia who has paid too
• 8:53
Speaker 7: much for your liperatur, you will be owed some money.
• 8:56
Speaker 3: And there's a deadline. I think that's approaching in that case.
• 9:00
Speaker 3: That's why that's that's why I wanted to bring that up. Well,
• 9:03
Speaker 3: you're driving right now, I week, Okay, I think you're right.
• 9:08
Speaker 7: If you're somebody who's interested, please call the Attorney General's office.
• 9:13
Speaker 7: One of our staff members will be more than happy
• 9:15
Speaker 7: to get you all the information you need to be
• 9:17
  Speaker 7: part of that.
• 9:18
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 9:18
Speaker 3: I do think you're right. I think the of the
• 9:20
Speaker 3: deadline is is this week. I want to go back
• 9:23
Speaker 3: to the Supreme Court for a moment your office issue
• 9:25
Speaker 3: to statement hailing this landmark uh Supreme Court decision ending
• 9:30
Speaker 3: what's known as universal universal universal injunctions. Just you just
• 9:37
Speaker 3: keep driving, let me talk.
• 9:39
  Speaker 4: Uh uh.
• 9:41
Speaker 3: It ended these universal injunctions that block certain government policies
• 9:46
Speaker 3: across the nation. Universal injunctions. I mean, when when I
• 9:50
Speaker 3: hear universal, I think of like Neptune in Mars. But
• 9:53
Speaker 3: that's just me, you know, thinking outside the box here
• 9:55
Speaker 3: a little bit. But but explain why this is an issue,
• 9:58
Speaker 3: these universal injunctions in your opinion.
• 10:01
Speaker 7: So it's actually funny you said it that way. There's
• 10:03
Speaker 7: a lot of district court judges in this country right
• 10:05
Speaker 7: now who think that they can issue rulings that apply
• 10:08
Speaker 7: to Neptune and so what this is that district court
• 10:13
Speaker 7: judges were stepping far outside of their authority, and they
• 10:18
Speaker 7: were making rulings that applied to the entire country as
• 10:21
Speaker 7: opposed to the people that were in front of them
• 10:23
Speaker 7: in their courtroom. And sort of simply, district court judges
• 10:28
Speaker 7: can issue rulings for the parties that have brought the
• 10:31
Speaker 7: cases to them, meaning the people that are actually in
• 10:35
Speaker 7: the courtroom in front of them. They cannot issue rulings
• 10:38
Speaker 7: for people that aren't there. That is the job of
• 10:40
Speaker 7: the United States Supreme Court. And we drafted an amicus
• 10:45
Speaker 7: brief in that case. And what's really great is that
• 10:49
Speaker 7: a lot of our language was used by Justice Comy
• 10:52
Speaker 7: Barrett in issuing her ruling, saying that these judges have
• 10:56
Speaker 7: overstepped their bounds, and the proper way to find something
• 11:02
Speaker 7: either unconstitutional or constitutional for the entire country is through
• 11:06
Speaker 7: the normal procedure, which is district court, circuit court, Supreme Court.
• 11:11
Speaker 7: And that was a huge win for the rule of law.
• 11:14
Speaker 7: It's a huge win for our court systems in general,
• 11:18
Speaker 7: because people were starting to see our district court judges
• 11:21
Speaker 7: as being very very political, and our courts are nothing
• 11:24
Speaker 7: if people don't trust their rulings, and this was a
• 11:28
Speaker 7: really big deal. Once again West Virginia was leading the
• 11:31
Speaker 7: country in making sure that the rule of law is
• 11:34
Speaker 7: being followed. We were super proud of our work there
• 11:37
Speaker 7: and we're looking forward to the seeing how this plays out.
• 11:42
Speaker 3: Turney, General JB. Mccusky. How's the weather on your way
• 11:45
Speaker 3: back here? Because we've been battling some severe storms. I
• 11:47
Speaker 3: know I'm going to go down. Meteorologist JB. Mccusky, how's
• 11:51
Speaker 3: the weather and your drive back from Pittsburgh.
• 11:53
Speaker 7: Well, if I were if I were making fun of
• 11:55
Speaker 7: my good friend Kelly Cart, what I would say is
• 11:58
Speaker 7: we're on I seventy nine south and the weather is perfect,
• 12:02
Speaker 7: there is no hold ups, and you're gonna have smooth
• 12:05
Speaker 7: sailing all the way to mortgage out.
• 12:06
Speaker 3: I will not have you making fun of Cali the Great. Okay,
• 12:09
Speaker 3: just so you know.
• 12:11
Speaker 7: Well I've already done it.
• 12:12
Speaker 3: All right, there you go, be safe. We'll talk again.
• 12:15
Speaker 3: Soue man. Thanks a lot, Thanks so much.
• 12:16
Speaker 7: I'll talk to you soon.
• 12:17
  Speaker 2: All right.
• 12:17
  Speaker 3: It's Attorney General G. B. Mccusky. Yeah, I mean I
• 12:21
Speaker 3: had read a little bit about that event that happened
• 12:23
Speaker 3: with Federman and McCormick coup up in Pennsylvania, and I
• 12:26
Speaker 3: think Wilson is going to get into that a little
• 12:28
Speaker 3: bit more coming up on talk line a little bit,
• 12:31
Speaker 3: a little bit later on. But you know, the governor
• 12:33
Speaker 3: talked about this backyard brawl, the economic backyard brawl, and
• 12:37
Speaker 3: I'm going to go ahead and say it looks like
• 12:38
Speaker 3: Pennsylvania has got got a little bit of a head start.
• 12:41
Speaker 3: But that's okay. And they're including West Virginia. That's why
• 12:43
Speaker 3: the Attorney General was up there. So it's now it's
• 12:45
Speaker 3: time for West Virginia to get involved in this as well.

• 15:40
Speaker 3: was on sports Line last night. I got to catch
• 15:43
Speaker 3: a little bit of that interview, and I heard it
• 15:44
Speaker 3: coming in again this morning on the morning news. But yeah,
• 15:47
Speaker 3: we're all excited about the TV team. By the way,
• 15:49
Speaker 3: I will tell you we will be broadcasting those games
• 15:51
Speaker 3: on the Metro News radio network. Looking forward to listening in.
• 15:55
Speaker 3: And of course that's a big deal for Charleston to
• 15:58
Speaker 3: get this back. And I would be miss if I
• 16:00
Speaker 3: didn't if I failed to mention that. In addition to uh,
• 16:04
Speaker 3: the best Virginia team uh. And also heard that the
• 16:08
Speaker 3: Marshall team, my co worker, my co host in the
• 16:11
Speaker 3: afternoon Metro News Midday, Amanda Baron her alma Moter Ohio University,
• 16:16
Speaker 3: the home of the Bobcats, has also got I think
• 16:18
Speaker 3: the Court Street Kings. But as I mentioned earlier, you know,
• 16:21
Speaker 3: being an old uh Marshall guy, it's uh uh, it's
• 16:24
Speaker 3: very very difficult for uh for me to you know,
• 16:29
Speaker 3: have any good feelings about Ohio University. Plus I got
• 16:31
Speaker 3: a speeding ticket in Athens, Ohio. So kidding, with all
• 16:35
Speaker 3: due respect to Amanda Baron and Rob Cornelia's frequent guest
• 16:39
Speaker 3: on the show, just not a whole lot of love
• 16:40
Speaker 3: from this guy from Ohio University being a Marshall guy.
• 16:42
Speaker 3: But anyway, TBT is happening this weekend, will be telling
• 16:45
Speaker 3: you more about a huge economic driver uh for the
• 16:48
Speaker 3: city of Charleston and the surrounding areas. And uh uh
• 16:51
Speaker 3: we will be carrying those games on the Metro News
• 16:53
Speaker 3: radio network. And again Jared West scheduled to be with us,
• 16:55
Speaker 3: but we're having a little trouble connecting uh with uh
• 16:59
Speaker 3: with mister as well. We'll keep trying. But Dave Aland
• 17:02
Speaker 3: showing five eighty Live is presented in part by Generations
• 17:05
Speaker 3: Physical Therapy with nine practices all offered extended hours. So
• 17:08
Speaker 3: access to physical therapy has never been easier from an
• 17:11
Speaker 3: appointment three zero four, seven, six, zero fifty six to
• 17:14
Speaker 3: sixty or visit Generations PT dot com. I was talking
• 17:18
Speaker 3: about the economic backyard brawl, and I appreciate a listener
• 17:21
Speaker 3: who sent me in an X from also frequent guests
• 17:24
Speaker 3: to the program, and also a Metro News mid Day
• 17:26
Speaker 3: Stephen Allen Adams of Ogden newspaper, and he was talking
• 17:30
Speaker 3: about what Attorney General mccusky now we're just talking about.
• 17:34
Speaker 3: And that is a this is a this is an
• 17:37
Speaker 3: actual post on X from Steven Adams that Pennsylvania appears
• 17:41
Speaker 3: to be winning the backyard brawl as the Trump administration
• 17:46
Speaker 3: and David McCormick, that's not our David McCormick, the delegate
• 17:50
Speaker 3: David McCormick from that you hear his ads on this
• 17:52
Speaker 3: is this is Senator David McCormick out of Pennsylvania. And
• 17:56
Speaker 3: also Fetterman as as JB alluded to Team Metri from
• 18:00
Speaker 3: a seventy million dollar I'm sorry, seventy billion dollars in
• 18:04
Speaker 3: Putnsylvania energy investment and the texture said, we missed that boat. Well,
• 18:09
Speaker 3: not yet, not yet. We haven't missed the boat yet.
• 18:11
Speaker 3: That's why I think, that's why that Attorney General mccusky
• 18:15
Speaker 3: was actually in Pittsburgh. Coming up on the show tomorrow.
• 18:19
Speaker 3: A good friend, Milly Snyder is going to join this
• 18:22
Speaker 3: nutrition expert and now apparently she's a podcast star. I
• 18:25
Speaker 3: was talking to somebody in the office earlier today that
• 18:27
Speaker 3: Milly is now doing her own podcast. She's already got
• 18:30
Speaker 3: one in the can. I think it'll be coming out
• 18:31
Speaker 3: we dropping here real soon. We're going to talk to
• 18:33
Speaker 3: her about that and plus anything else that's on the
• 18:35
Speaker 3: mind of Milly Snyder coming up on the show tomorrow. Also,
• 18:38
Speaker 3: there is a new acting director of the West Virginia Lottery,
• 18:41
Speaker 3: David Bradley, and he is going to be on the
• 18:44
Speaker 3: show coming up tomorrow as well. And I am I'm
• 18:46
Speaker 3: interested in talking to mister Bradley about this. I still
• 18:49
Speaker 3: don't know whether those million dollar Powerball tickets have been
• 18:54
Speaker 3: claimed yet. We told you the story when he was
• 18:56
Speaker 3: on Metro News Midday a couple of weeks ago that
• 18:59
Speaker 3: there were two separate million dollar Powerball tickets sold here
• 19:03
Speaker 3: in the Kanaw Valley. One was sold at Marty Gronc
• 19:06
Speaker 3: Cassino and Resort. The other was sold at the Palmar
• 19:08
Speaker 3: store on Main Street and Hurricane. And as of when
• 19:13
Speaker 3: we had acting Director Bradley on the show a couple
• 19:16
Speaker 3: of weeks ago, neither one of those tickets had been
• 19:19
Speaker 3: claimed and they were you know, having an effort to
• 19:22
Speaker 3: try to get somebody to come forward to claim what
• 19:24
Speaker 3: is two million dollars two separate one million dollar tickets.
• 19:27
Speaker 3: I will say this that if it were I and
• 19:34
Speaker 3: I had purchased a ticket for either one of those
• 19:37
Speaker 3: locations and then heard that there's a million dollar winner,
• 19:40
Speaker 3: I might be trying to find that ticket. Just say, now,
• 19:43
Speaker 3: somebody brought up to me that maybe it was gifted
• 19:45
Speaker 3: to somebody or something to do. Somebody frequently do that
• 19:48
Speaker 3: for birthdays or anniversaries, Christmas. But what ever, give you
• 19:50
Speaker 3: some lottery tickets? I don't know, maybe, but I will
• 19:53
Speaker 3: say this that if that were me, I probably would
• 19:56
Speaker 3: have been checking. But as of the last time, and
• 20:00
Speaker 3: we had the acting director of the lottery on a
• 20:01
Speaker 3: couple of weeks ago, that tickets, those tickets, two separate ones,
• 20:05
Speaker 3: one sold at the Palmar store on Main Street and Hurricane,
• 20:08
Speaker 3: the other one was sold at Marty Gar Casino. And result,
• 20:11
Speaker 3: nobody had come forward to claim those tickets. And if
• 20:13
Speaker 3: nobody comes forward to claim them, they just go back.
• 20:17
Speaker 3: They just go back. And wouldn't you hate to think?
• 20:21
Speaker 3: I try to think what that mat or woman must
• 20:23
Speaker 3: be thinking in their head right now, is that they
• 20:27
Speaker 3: find out like a day after that they just lost
• 20:29
Speaker 3: out on a million dollars. So somebody sent me a
• 20:37
Speaker 3: pizza deal on the tax lint here. Appreciate that, But
• 20:42
Speaker 3: unless there's some sort of a charitable thing in there,
• 20:45
Speaker 3: considering that Husson sponsors the show, I'm probably not going
• 20:48
Speaker 3: to mention one of their competitors. I do appreciate, though,
• 20:51
Speaker 3: I do do really appreciate the textures in that in
• 20:55
Speaker 3: there was because you know me, I'm always happy to
• 20:59
Speaker 3: talk about food. Another protest downtown yesterday the office of
• 21:05
Speaker 3: Senator Shelley Moore Capito. Unlike last time, there were no arrests.
• 21:09
Speaker 3: Now the protesters carried in a cardboard box meant to
• 21:14
Speaker 3: symbolize a coffin. And if you happen to pick up
• 21:16
Speaker 3: a copy of the gazet mail this morning, you'll see
• 21:19
Speaker 3: it on the front page. And they say that that
• 21:22
Speaker 3: represents the people that will die because of the Reconciliation Bill,
• 21:29
Speaker 3: or because of the big beautiful bill, if that's what
• 21:33
Speaker 3: you prefer to call it. So there was a protest
• 21:36
Speaker 3: looked like as seven eight people downtown. Unlike last time,
• 21:39
Speaker 3: As I said, no arrests. Senator capitol was not in
• 21:41
Speaker 3: the building. She was in DC at this point, and
• 21:46
Speaker 3: I fully protest people are I fully support I should say,
• 21:50
Speaker 3: people's right to peacefully protest. But it's signed, it's a law,
• 21:55
  Speaker 3: and at this point, I don't think there's a whole
• 21:58
Speaker 3: lot that can be done about it at this point,
• 22:00
Speaker 3: us or some legal wrangling or whatever, but appreciate the effort,
• 22:04
Speaker 3: but it's a thing now. Also, I do want to
• 22:06
Speaker 3: mention this that if you don't have any plans this
• 22:09
Speaker 3: Thursday night, we're going to give you some plans, because
• 22:12
Speaker 3: you're invited to a party our sister station ninety eight
• 22:16
Speaker 3: seven A Mountain, Wild and Wonderful Classic Rocks, celebrating our birthday.
• 22:21
Speaker 3: And Thursday is the exact day that two years ago
• 22:24
Speaker 3: we launched what is known as Charleston's only full time
• 22:27
Speaker 3: classic rock station, ninety eight seven A Mountain, And we
• 22:32
Speaker 3: don't want to invite you to come out for this party.
• 22:34
Speaker 3: It's going to be a bar, one on one on
• 22:36
Speaker 3: Capitol Street, downtown Charleston. We'll start about six o'clock and
• 22:39
Speaker 3: all your favorite Mountain personalities will be on hand, even
• 22:44
Speaker 3: me because they let me hang out on the mountain
• 22:46
Speaker 3: from time to time. Being you know, I don't do
• 22:48
Speaker 3: enough with Metro News midday doing this show. Also pull
• 22:51
Speaker 3: a little time over it to ninety eight seven A Mountain,
• 22:54
Speaker 3: hanging out with Steve Adam on Shockley and Amy and
• 22:56
Speaker 3: the two Jeffs and all that. But we're having a
• 22:58
Speaker 3: party to celebrate right the second birthday of ninety eight
• 23:04
Speaker 3: to seven A Mountain And we've just had a great
• 23:06
Speaker 3: time with this station. If you like classic rock, it's
• 23:08
Speaker 3: definitely the station you want to you want to check
• 23:11
Speaker 3: out with Steve Animal in the morning. And so we'll
• 23:13
Speaker 3: be a bar one on one Capitol Street in Charleston
• 23:16
Speaker 3: coming up Thursday night. We're there normally a couple times
• 23:18
Speaker 3: a month anyway at Bar one on one. Got a
• 23:20
Speaker 3: great relationship with those folks. We're gonna have giveaways of
• 23:23
Speaker 3: all kinds. We will have cake. I understand Steve Animals
• 23:27
Speaker 3: done a trade out with somebody. He's done something to
• 23:29
Speaker 3: get a cake, probably a two day old cake or
• 23:30
Speaker 3: something like that. But we'll have a cake kind of
• 23:33
Speaker 3: fitting with the whole, with the whole, with the old
• 23:37
Speaker 3: attitude if you will of ninety eight to seven A Mountain.
• 23:39
Speaker 3: But if you have a chance yet to check out
• 23:41
Speaker 3: the station again. It's been around for a couple of years.
• 23:44
Speaker 3: We're having a lot of fun weather. We brought back
• 23:46
Speaker 3: one of the true icons in the world of radio,
• 23:49
Speaker 3: and it's Charlie Kendall. Every Sunday night. If you like
• 23:52
Speaker 3: metal music, you want to check out Metal Shops Sunday
• 23:55
Speaker 3: night at seven with the iconic Charlie Kendall. And we
• 23:58
Speaker 3: just have a lot of fun with the station and
• 24:00
Speaker 3: we have a lot of fun with our mountain Heads,
• 24:01
Speaker 3: which is what we have lovingly referred to our listeners
• 24:04
Speaker 3: of the mouth. And so come on out and join us.
• 24:06
Speaker 3: We will be there again on Thursday night starting at
• 24:10
Speaker 3: six as we celebrate the Mountain's birthday and Steve Annibal
• 24:13
Speaker 3: is going to join us on the show on Thursday

• 24:50
Speaker 3: little bit early. When we come back, we are going
• 24:52
Speaker 3: to see if we have better luck getting a hold
• 24:54
Speaker 3: of Knawa County Board of Education President Rick Cavender. And
• 24:59
Speaker 3: there's a lot of new surrounding the board these days,
• 25:01
Speaker 3: as it proposed as it pertains to cell phones. As
• 25:05
Speaker 3: you know, the governor signed the Billy talked about it
• 25:07
Speaker 3: that effectively bans the use of cell phones in classrooms
• 25:11
Speaker 3: or at least puts a lot of restrictions on it.
• 25:14
Speaker 3: And so the board board member Kate White was on
• 25:18
Speaker 3: with Meadows and Wilson on talk line talking about it
• 25:21
Speaker 3: last week. They're actually asking for public comment on how
• 25:23
Speaker 3: this thing is, how this whole thing is going to
• 25:25
Speaker 3: play out. So Rick Cavander is going to join us
• 25:28
Speaker 3: to talk about that when we come back, and again

• 29:01
Speaker 5: That, yeah just like with any other policy that we
• 29:05
Speaker 5: are considering implementing in the, county this currently is out
• 29:09
Speaker 5: for public. Comment it has, NOW i think it's been
• 29:11
Speaker 5: out for a little bit more than a, week ten
• 29:13
Speaker 5: days or. So we always want to make sure that
• 29:15
Speaker 5: we get really good feedback from all of our you, know, parents, students, faculty,
• 29:20
Speaker 5: members the public in, general.
• 29:23
Speaker 16: So to help us best shape this policy that we
• 29:26
Speaker 16: are that we have to put in place at this.
• 29:29
Speaker 3: Point, now how do people go about submitting public?

Speaker 16: About not maybe not being able to get a hold
• 30:33
Speaker 16: of their child during the day and that kind of,
• 30:35
Speaker 16: thing which OBVIOUSLY i, think, uh you AND i have
• 30:38
Speaker 16: discussed this, before and and Certainly i've discussed it with other.
• 30:41
Speaker 16: People you, know you can always call the school if you.
• 30:43
Speaker 5: Need to get a hold of your. Child they're always
• 30:46
Speaker 5: available to do. That BUT i, think by and, LARGE
• 30:49
Speaker 5: i think at this, point you, know we're at least
• 30:51
Speaker 5: for People i'm, Taught i've talked, to they definitely see the.
• 30:53
Speaker 5: Benefits and and of, course As i'm sure we'll talk
• 30:56
Speaker 5: about here in a, minute we have a pilot program
• 30:58
Speaker 5: At Horace man we've had for a few years that
• 31:00
Speaker 5: it seemed to work really.
• 31:01
Speaker 3: Well, yeah talk about that pilot program you've got going.
• 31:03
Speaker 5: On, yeah you, Know So i'm actually a Horse Man
• 31:06
Speaker 5: Middle school. Parent my youngest son has been using The
• 31:11
Speaker 5: yonder pouches ever since he. Started he's going into his
• 31:13
Speaker 5: eighth grade, year and he's had, them you, know ever
• 31:15
Speaker 5: since he started At. Horseman AND i can tell you
• 31:19
Speaker 5: definitely the overall as a, parent the distraction is way.
• 31:23
Speaker 5: Down you, know unnecessary situations that arise when students have
• 31:30
Speaker 5: their their devices all day. Long those aren't. Happening students
• 31:34
Speaker 5: are actually communicating with one another at, lunchtime talking to each.
• 31:37
Speaker 5: Other they're not their faces aren't buried in their. Phones
• 31:41
Speaker 5: we've definitely seen a lot of benefits from. It so
• 31:43
Speaker 5: as a parent At, HORSEMAN i can tell YOU i
• 31:46
Speaker 5: find the limited use or no use of personal devices
• 31:52
Speaker 5: during the instructional day to be very.
• 31:54
  Speaker 16: Beneficial so how.
• 31:55
Speaker 3: Do you answer the people and you hear the age old. Question,
• 31:59
Speaker 3: NO i mean this is but all over the country
• 32:00
Speaker 3: you hear people, say, well what if there is a school,
• 32:02
Speaker 3: Shooting god? Forbid or what if for some sort of an,
• 32:04
Speaker 3: emergency my kid has to get in touch with. Me
• 32:07
Speaker 3: i'm sure that and that argument is going to come
• 32:09
  Speaker 3: up to.
• 32:09
Speaker 5: That you would, say, what, well you know we As
• 32:14
Speaker 5: i'm sure you, recall we invested a lot of money
• 32:18
Speaker 5: through the excess. Levee over the past two cycles of
• 32:22
Speaker 5: the excess, levee we've invested a lot of money in
• 32:25
Speaker 5: upgrades to. Security from many different, STANDPOINTS i think That
• 32:30
Speaker 5: Kenall county probably has the best security guidelines and set.
• 32:35
Speaker 5: UP i would like to think in the state Of West,
• 32:36
Speaker 5: virginia and all the protocols are in place if there's
• 32:40
Speaker 5: any type of, emergency all faculty is trained on what to,
• 32:43
Speaker 5: do administration is trained on what to. Do we, have
• 32:47
Speaker 5: as you, know we have CPOs in a lot of
• 32:49
Speaker 5: the schools we. Have now we've added through the excess
• 32:52
Speaker 5: levee this past, cycle we've been able to add even
• 32:55
Speaker 5: more officers that are randomly in different schools every single,
• 32:59
Speaker 5: day WHICH i find to be very useful and beneficial
• 33:03
Speaker 5: and definitely makes our parents feel more safe sending their
• 33:06
Speaker 5: kids to. SCHOOL a lot of protocols have been put
• 33:09
Speaker 5: in place to ensure our student. Safety so that includes
• 33:13
Speaker 5: communication with parents in.
• 33:14
Speaker 7: The event of an.
• 33:15
Speaker 3: Emergency talking again To Canawha County school Where President Rick
• 33:19
Speaker 3: cavitt Of Dave allen showing five any live is brown
• 33:21
Speaker 3: too fared By morgan And morgan if you're injured Higher
• 33:23
Speaker 3: morgan And, Morgan america's largest injury law. Firm you reference
• 33:26
Speaker 3: These yonder, pouches and some schools do. Those i've heard other.
• 33:31
Speaker 3: People you, know other counties don't use. Them exactly how
• 33:34
Speaker 3: to if that's the route that is decided, upon exactly
• 33:37
Speaker 3: how do these pouches?
• 33:37
Speaker 5: Work, WELL i can tell, YOU i mean right, now the.
• 33:41
Speaker 5: Pouches there's a big expense that comes with these. Pouches
• 33:45
Speaker 5: so for right, NOW i think you, know we're working
• 33:48
Speaker 5: through this. Policy we're working to make sure that each
• 33:51
Speaker 5: school has a consistent protocol in place that the phones
• 33:55
Speaker 5: or the devices in general will be stowed away throughout the.
• 33:58
Speaker 5: DAY i don't foresee us looking at The yonder patches right.
• 34:03
Speaker 5: Now it is a significant expense and it's money we
• 34:06
Speaker 5: do not have. Budgeted so you, know they've worked with
• 34:11
Speaker 5: a well horseman during this pilot, program AND i would
• 34:15
Speaker 5: love to find a way for us all to be
• 34:17
Speaker 5: able to use them for right, now we'll be putting
• 34:19
Speaker 5: other protocols in, place working with all the individual schools
• 34:21
Speaker 5: to make sure that they follow the.
• 34:23
Speaker 3: Policy i'm going to ask a, really really dumb question
• 34:26
Speaker 3: as a non. Parent, okay so what would be wrong
• 34:31
Speaker 3: with let's say the bell rings if they still do,
• 34:34
Speaker 3: bells Because i'm, old you know the bell? Rings beginning
• 34:37
Speaker 3: the class teacher has a giant container bucket something in
• 34:43
Speaker 3: front of the classroom and they say to the, kids
• 34:45
Speaker 3: all phones. Forward they put the phones in the Giant
• 34:50
Speaker 3: i'm picturing like a plastic like a tote of some
• 34:52
Speaker 3: sort in front of the teachers. Desks so obviously you,
• 34:55
Speaker 3: know the teacher's not going through them or doing. Whatever
• 34:58
Speaker 3: what would be wrong with that policy of just saying, okay,
• 35:00
Speaker 3: everybody pass your phones, up or when you come into
• 35:03
Speaker 3: the classroom you drop them.
• 35:04
Speaker 6: In, well, SEE i.
• 35:06
Speaker 5: Think that's why it's really, important AS i mentioned, earlier
• 35:08
Speaker 5: that there's consistent policy across the, county because when you're
• 35:12
Speaker 5: talking about a situation like, that you're eating into instructional,
• 35:14
Speaker 5: time very important instructional. Time so if each classroom or each,
• 35:18
Speaker 5: administration or whatever the case, is has different operational policies
• 35:23
Speaker 5: and how to make sure these devices aren't in the
• 35:24
Speaker 5: hands of the students throughout the, day that could eat
• 35:26
Speaker 5: into a lot of really important instructional, time and it
• 35:28
Speaker 5: could become. Chaos, yeah so you, know AND i understand your,
• 35:33
Speaker 5: question AND i feel very confident that we have a
• 35:37
Speaker 5: lot of really great, teachers a lot of great administrators
• 35:40
Speaker 5: throughout the entire, county AND i feel really confident that
• 35:44
Speaker 5: they're going to come up with a really good solution
• 35:46
Speaker 5: once this policy is in place from school to. SCHOOL
• 35:49
Speaker 5: i do want to see to that. POINT i do
• 35:51
Speaker 5: want to see us be as consistent as possible across
• 35:54
Speaker 5: the whole. County so one school is being treated different
• 35:56
Speaker 5: than the. OTHER i find that to be really. Important
• 35:59
Speaker 5: so as far as those sort of granular classroom by classroom,
• 36:03
Speaker 5: operations as far as how they ensure that these students
• 36:06
Speaker 5: aren't using their, devices my hope is is that it's
• 36:09
Speaker 5: all handled at the administrative level and that there's one
• 36:11
Speaker 5: consistent process in place for the entire, school and of
• 36:15
Speaker 5: course with the entire.
• 36:16
Speaker 3: County well, yeah and like you, said you, know if
• 36:18
Speaker 3: you've got a kid that goes to two different, schools
• 36:19
Speaker 3: there could be two completely different. Policies as you will know.
• 36:23
  Speaker 3: YOURSELF i Guess i'm JUST i guess Because i'm the
• 36:26
Speaker 3: old guy you know that's shaking his, hand you, know
• 36:30
Speaker 3: like the meme from The simpsons old man yells at.
• 36:32
Speaker 3: Cloud you, know that's. Me i'm just trying to figure
• 36:34
Speaker 3: out how in the nineteen seventies and nineteen AND i,
• 36:37
Speaker 3: know the world's a different, PLACE i get, It but
• 36:39
Speaker 3: how in the nineteen seventies and nineteen eighties we left
• 36:42
Speaker 3: for school at seven or seven thirty in the, morning
• 36:44
Speaker 3: had absolutely no contact with our parents all, day and
• 36:46
Speaker 3: somehow managed to manage to make it just, fine and.
• 36:50
Speaker 5: You ended up just find any.
• 36:52
  Speaker 8: Day, well now.
• 36:52
Speaker 3: That's, Questionable, Rick there'd be a lot of people that
• 36:56
Speaker 3: would probably question. It BUT i think another thing too
• 36:59
Speaker 3: that for another. Interview, YEAH i think another thing too
• 37:01
Speaker 3: that a lot of older people like myself also need
• 37:03
Speaker 3: to realize is there's a quite a bit of instruction
• 37:07
Speaker 3: that goes on with these with these. PHONES i, MEAN
• 37:09
Speaker 3: i got a good friend whose. Kids he's got one
• 37:13
Speaker 3: kid in, school one that just GRADUATED i think last
• 37:15
Speaker 3: year or the year, before and they had apps on their
• 37:18
Speaker 3: phone that they were required to go to Different and
• 37:20
Speaker 3: again it's something you know about you're a, parent added
• 37:23
Speaker 3: school board. PRESIDENT i don't know anything about, that but
• 37:25
Speaker 3: but there are apps on phones that students, are uh
• 37:28
Speaker 3: are are supposed to be taking a look at things
• 37:31
Speaker 3: are posted various. Sites.
• 37:32
Speaker 5: Right, well that's why we supply every student in the
• 37:36
Speaker 5: county with an, iPad and all those apps are are
• 37:39
Speaker 5: accessible on the school supplied, iPad and so you, know
• 37:44
Speaker 5: and then of, course because that's sort of the epicenter
• 37:46
Speaker 5: of of all of their instructional. Materials now that in
• 37:49
Speaker 5: most cases as that. iPad so any app that could
• 37:52
Speaker 5: be downloaded to an iPhone or to A samsung device
• 37:54
Speaker 5: absolutely will need to be able.
• 37:56
Speaker 16: To be downloaded to a school supplied.
• 37:58
Speaker 5: iPad So i'm Not i'm not worried about.
• 37:59
Speaker 3: THAT i would think, though that with the iPads you
• 38:01
Speaker 3: can pretty easily control what they're allowed to. ACCESS i,
• 38:05
Speaker 3: MEAN i would think social media is is a snapchat
• 38:09
Speaker 3: or something like that's probably that's probably. BLOCKED i, mean
• 38:11
Speaker 3: not that a kid couldn't figure it. Out but But
• 38:13
Speaker 3: i'm just, saying is that that's probably the.
• 38:15
Speaker 5: Case, Right we, asked we asked our technology director of
• 38:19
Speaker 5: that question when we first had this discussion two meetings,
• 38:22
Speaker 5: ago regarding you, know the apps that can be. Accessed
• 38:24
Speaker 5: even the message is app, right BECAUSE i mean that's that's.
• 38:27
Speaker 5: Texting none of that is accessible on the.
• 38:29
Speaker 16: iPad that's all. Blocked.
• 38:30
Speaker 5: Okay these iPads are to be used for educational, purposes.
• 38:35
Speaker 3: So, okay all, Right, well the public comment period is.
• 38:37
Speaker 3: Continuing as you, said you can go to The Kanaw
• 38:40
Speaker 3: County ward Of education website and you're expected to have
• 38:42
Speaker 3: a plan in place by the beginning of the school.
• 38:44
Speaker 5: Year, Right, yes we will have a special meeting just
• 38:47
Speaker 5: to discuss and vote on this. POLICY i believe In
• 38:50
Speaker 5: august the eleventh Is monday of that.
• 38:52
Speaker 3: Week, yeah it's to say when does school start for
• 38:54
Speaker 3: students In Kannon County friday to?
• 38:56
Speaker 5: Fifteen, okay so that has to be in place before
• 38:58
  Speaker 5: that first.
• 38:59
Speaker 3: Day And i'm like, You i'm a little bit of you,
• 39:01
Speaker 3: know concerned about different schools doing different. Things But i'll
• 39:05
Speaker 3: be honest with, You, Reck i'm also concerned about different
• 39:06
Speaker 3: teachers doing different. Things AND i brought this. Up but
• 39:10
Speaker 3: going back to my school, days you knew what you
• 39:12
Speaker 3: could get by with in your first period class that
• 39:14
Speaker 3: you couldn't get by with in your second period. Class
• 39:17
  Speaker 3: SO i think it's. Right it's why it's important that
• 39:19
Speaker 3: you do get a straight line policy across the. Board
• 39:22
Speaker 3: i'm sure you guys will figure it. Out, Hey, RICK
• 39:24
Speaker 3: i know you're busy and you're doing some traveling. TODAY
• 39:26
Speaker 3: i appreciate you taking time in our schedule to join this.
• 39:29
Speaker 5: Man thanks a lot, Anytime, DAVE i really appreciate.
• 39:32
Speaker 3: You all, Right Rick, Cavita president of The Kanawh County
• 39:35
Speaker 3: board Of. Education it's fourteen minutes away from. Ten, AGAIN
• 39:38
Speaker 3: i just, got you, know a lot of issues about.
• 39:42
Speaker 3: Questions and again it's not for. ME i, MEAN i
• 39:45
Speaker 3: don't have, KIDS i don't even live In Kanaan. County
• 39:48
Speaker 3: but other count all fifty five counties got to come
• 39:50
Speaker 3: up with some sort of a. Plan we've already seen.
• 39:52
Speaker 3: That Fayett county started to work ON, Theirs Montguelia county
• 39:54
Speaker 3: started to work ON. Theirs Kanawa county is but that
• 39:57
  Speaker 3: doesn't give them a whole a lot of time they're
• 40:01
Speaker 3: going to vote on this on like The, monday and
• 40:04
Speaker 3: then school starts later in the. WEEK i Think rick
• 40:05
Speaker 3: said on A, friday kind of figure this. Out BUT
• 40:09
Speaker 3: i will say, this you, KNOW i Asked rick about
• 40:13
Speaker 3: being able to access certain things on. iPads kids can
• 40:18
Speaker 3: figure it. Out they will figure it. Out As Ryan
• 40:21
Speaker 3: nicholson smiles at me through the, Glass they'll figure it.
• 40:24
Speaker 3: Out and that's the. Thing but AS i have said
• 40:27
Speaker 3: since day, one who's going to have the biggest problem
• 40:30
Speaker 3: with this. Policy it's going to be the. Parents and
• 40:33
Speaker 3: this has been proven over and over and over again
• 40:36
Speaker 3: in every. State the kids get, along kids. Adapts but
• 40:41
Speaker 3: it was the. PARENTS i was reading one. STUDY i
• 40:44
Speaker 3: think it was out Of alabama that the parents like
• 40:47
Speaker 3: went to the school board with protest signs and. Whatever
• 40:50
Speaker 3: the kids were perfectly fine with. It it was the
• 40:52
Speaker 3: parents that had the. Issue the helicopter. Parents not, all but,
• 40:58
Speaker 3: Many dex says, AGAIN i, said school offices in the
• 41:00
Speaker 3: classrooms need silent alarms for teachers and staff to press like,
• 41:04
Speaker 3: banks restaurants and convenience stores in case of. Danger there
• 41:07
Speaker 3: is no, need says the texture for kids to have
• 41:09
Speaker 3: cell phones in the. Classroom we gen exors survived the
• 41:12
Speaker 3: school day just fine without. Phones parents call the office
• 41:15
Speaker 3: and leave a message for your. Child that's all you
• 41:17
Speaker 3: have to. Do if there's a family, emergency then go
• 41:19
Speaker 3: to the school and check your kids, out says A.
• 41:23
Speaker 3: Texture and, AGAIN i KEEP i keep throwing out. Problems
• 41:27
Speaker 3: an old boss one time, said don't cut me with,
• 41:29
Speaker 3: problems coming with meats to. Solutions but as Mister, wilson
• 41:34
Speaker 3: the host of Talk, line pointed, out and during a
• 41:35
Speaker 3: meeting we had AND i kind of gave him away
• 41:38
Speaker 3: on the. Air, here what would keep a kid from
• 41:40
Speaker 3: having a fake, telephone you know one and Saying, okay
• 41:45
  Speaker 3: here's here's my here's my. Phone it's going in the,
• 41:46
Speaker 3: pouts it's going in the giant band, whatever and having
• 41:49
Speaker 3: keeping the real. Phone what would keep them from from doing?
• 41:51
Speaker 3: That but then again you're listening to the guy who
