- 0:15Hello and welcome to Arguing Ever After.
- 0:18I am Luke and this is Amber. Hello.
- 0:21Together we're the Lord and Lady who lock horns.
- 0:23The counts and Countess of contention.
- 0:25The Duke and Duchess of Disagreement.
- 0:27And the king and queen of quarrels.
- 0:29In this podcast, we bicker about all things and we let the
- 0:32audience vote determine who the winner is.
- 0:35Many of our arguments are frequently submitted by our
- 0:38listeners. If you have a topic you want us
- 0:41to battle over, please send it to us at
- 0:43arguingeverafter@gmail.com. All right, here we are.
- 0:47We are at a bonus episode. Yay for bonuses.
- 0:51What that means is that it's going to be an episode that'll
- 0:55air whenever we don't know when. So no statistics on who's
- 0:59winning or losing? No statistics, but there will be
- 1:02a vote and they will count in the future.
- 1:05For sure. This could drop in a week.
- 1:07It could drop in two years. We don't know.
- 1:10So it's sort of fun to just have this sitting there and we'll
- 1:14find out whenever this happens. Earlier today, though, our
- 1:20daughter and me, our daughter and I went to the grocery store
- 1:27and we were walking down. It was actually really full.
- 1:30And I don't like it when the grocery store is full of a lot
- 1:32of people. I feel like most people don't
- 1:34like it. Some of us don't care.
- 1:37I really don't care. Really you like if there's like
- 1:414 people with carts down the aisle it doesn't bother you?
- 1:44I don't, Nope, really. Nodding a little bit just fine.
- 1:48It's fine. Well, it was really busy and it
- 1:52shouldn't have been to me at that time because like it's, it
- 1:55was close to dinner time and usually it's not that busy at
- 1:57the grocery store on a weekend at dinner time anyhow.
- 2:00But we had been there were a couple times we were walking by
- 2:04the same people, all of that. And and she gets as frustrated
- 2:08apparently as I do with walking down the grocery aisles.
- 2:13And as we were walking down this one aisle, well, we were at the
- 2:16one end and there was another guy at the other end and he
- 2:19started coughing and like making weird like clearing of his
- 2:24throat sounds. And so we were kind of waiting
- 2:28until he was done coughing before we were going to walk by
- 2:31him. Because.
- 2:32He was coughing. He wasn't covering his mouth.
- 2:35I guess I should have said that too.
- 2:38So he stopped. And then as soon as we were
- 2:40like, right there, right? I mean, there's grocery owls
- 2:43aren't very big. You're within a foot of each
- 2:46other sometimes he starts coughing again as we're walking
- 2:49by. And we were both so grossed out.
- 2:53It was it was awful. I mean, I but it's amazing is
- 2:56that I feel like nowadays, since the great what bad times
- 3:02everybody knows the. Bad times.
- 3:04Since the bad times, everybody knows to cover your mouth, you
- 3:08know, like this is this this? Man, that's not true.
- 3:12I really. Well, obviously.
- 3:15I mean, but I feel I mean. I'd be willing to bet if people
- 3:20are better at it. Sounds like you need to cover
- 3:22your cough. I need to.
- 3:23I think people are better at it and maybe that just makes it
- 3:27that much worse when you do see it.
- 3:30It got me thinking, when I if I'm coughing at home alone, do I
- 3:35cover my mouth? I don't.
- 3:37I don't either and I don't know why, but if I'm around other
- 3:42people I don't want to share my germs with them.
- 3:44Checks out. So it's just interesting.
- 3:47I mean, I apparently this guy was in the grocery store all by
- 3:49himself in his mind because he was just hacking away.
- 3:53But I get if you don't have the ability to stop it, right?
- 3:57Like cool, that's fine. But that's why you have the
- 3:59courtesy of covering your mouth. But this is where getting sick
- 4:03comes from, is catching things from other people.
- 4:07But it kind of actually let us or was good, good timing for all
- 4:14of you because our topic today is going to be about things that
- 4:19are disgusting. Coughing in the grocery store.
- 4:21Yeah. You know what's weird?
- 4:22I got to make a confession right here, Not live, but on the
- 4:27podcast is if I don't cough very often, but like if I have a
- 4:34clear your throat cough, I don't cover that even if I'm in public
- 4:37next to somebody. Really.
- 4:40Yeah. Only if I know that it's a cough
- 4:42that is related to some sort of cold, then I do.
- 4:48But like if I just as an example, I'm walking down the
- 4:51grocery store aisle and whatever, get a tickle in my
- 4:55throat or something, which does happen, then I'll just like have
- 4:58a couple little clearing coughs and don't care and I'm going to
- 5:01move on. And it is what it is and.
- 5:04Maybe that's what was going on with this guy, but.
- 5:06Doesn't sound like it. I mean, it sounds like he had
- 5:07something productive going on. Right.
- 5:09Well, I'll tell you, I feel like there's no way that me and
- 5:12someone walking by you would know that.
- 5:14So just, you know, people might be disgusted by you.
- 5:18Feel like that's their problem. I mean, yeah, I guess but but I
- 5:22don't really think that. But it got me really kind of
- 5:27going down this thought of things, you know, and and
- 5:29disgust and what that is all of that.
- 5:31And I found a quote that I really liked and I don't know
- 5:34why it's. It's from some doctor fella.
- 5:36This is not what this doctor fella.
- 5:38Wrote. This is a different this is from
- 5:40the Google AI. Yes, disgust is a rapid gut
- 5:45feeling that works as an emotional eject button to
- 5:49protect against physical or moral danger.
- 5:52And I like that term because. Moral danger.
- 5:55Yes, disgust can be two things for sure.
- 5:58Yeah. Yeah, and you can absolutely be
- 6:02disgusted by someone's behavior. Yeah, and decisions and
- 6:05whatever. Yeah, well, so there's a a
- 6:08Doctor Who discusses a lot about disgust.
- 6:12He discusses disgust. Yes, he he researches disgust
- 6:15and his. Does he find it disgusting?
- 6:19Because he's disgusting. Come on, that was good.
- 6:23What rap song is that discussing?
- 6:26Because I'm disgusting. It's Eminem.
- 6:29Ah, see, OK, so we're, we're in in our podcast, we're going to
- 6:33quote Eminem, the great Eminem, and we're going to talk about
- 6:37Doctor Ross. Michigan.
- 6:41He's from Detroit. Of course we do.
- 6:43We have a really good friend in Michigan.
- 6:45I just wanted to chat. Every once in a while,
- 6:47frequently. A really, really good friend.
- 6:50A good. Friend.
- 6:51Hi good friend. And we know that you're there
- 6:53listening, but Doctor Rosin from the University of Pennsylvania
- 6:56has done a lot of research on disgust Upenn.
- 7:00They're a big deal. Well, OK, I'm sure.
- 7:03Academically speaking, they probably have some sports.
- 7:06I don't know a lot about college sports.
- 7:08Penn State, it's a different place.
- 7:10Upenn and Penn State. Penn State has some sort of team
- 7:13thing. Because I feel like I've heard
- 7:15about this. Sure, And they might.
- 7:16Be both of them do even. But I feel like it might be a
- 7:19good team. Sorry, Pennsylvanians out there
- 7:21listening, if you're mad at us right now, we don't live there
- 7:24and we don't follow the sports. No, but that's OK because I
- 7:28couldn't tell you anything about the teams that exist here in our
- 7:31own great state, except for maybe their names.
- 7:33Like their team names, but not anything more than that.
- 7:37I couldn't tell you. I couldn't tell you if they're
- 7:39good or bad, although I think they're kind of good a couple of
- 7:41them. Philadelphia Eagles.
- 7:44There you go. They're in Pennsylvania.
- 7:46Right. And the Philadelphia Phillies is
- 7:50their baseball team. Yeah, that's baseball.
- 7:54Yeah, I mean, that sounds right to me.
- 7:55Good. It definitely does, I feel like.
- 7:58Yeah, Pittsburgh. Steelers.
- 8:03He threw me off. I was going to do the hockey. 10
- 8:06Penguins. Oh, cute, huh?
- 8:09That's a cute name for hockey team.
- 8:10Isn't it just cute little Penguins?
- 8:12Little. Penguins.
- 8:13Now I'm thinking. About now, I want to see Penguin
- 8:15hockey. I know.
- 8:16That would be amazing. Give them little sticks and just
- 8:19have just just going. Penguins are truly dumb and
- 8:24disgusting birds. So.
- 8:25Oh, are they they? Really.
- 8:27Are they really are. Thanks for.
- 8:28Bringing us back on track. Yeah, I years ago, I've said it
- 8:32a couple times, did some volunteering at a zoo where we
- 8:35had Penguins and they are just really dirty, disgusting.
- 8:38And it really, really, really stupid.
- 8:41Really stupid. I mean bird.
- 8:42Brain, it's that old. You know, but I mean like bird
- 8:45poop everywhere. Just.
- 8:48The only reason regular birds don't disgust you in the same
- 8:51way is because they fly their poop around.
- 8:55Yeah, yeah. Have you ever been pooped on by
- 8:57a bird? Yeah, oh, yeah, yeah, I own a
- 9:00Jeep Wrangler. It's for sure.
- 9:04Yep. Well, you know, it's a sign of
- 9:05good luck some places. Why I don't?
- 9:08Know because the odds are bad that it's going to happen.
- 9:11And I don't think they're that bad.
- 9:12Feel like most people have been pooped on by a bird, right?
- 9:15But I mean have. You been pooped on by.
- 9:16A bird I have. I have.
- 9:17You owned a Jeep Wrangler? Well, yeah, but it actually
- 9:20happened to me in Mexico. Yeah, I.
- 9:23Would not remember that. Because it didn't happen to you,
- 9:26it happened to me. Sure.
- 9:29Well, what were you doing? Sitting at the airport, huh?
- 9:33I know not where you would think.
- 9:35No, well outside of the airport. No right, but same I would think
- 9:39like birds in general would stay away from the airport because of
- 9:43insane wind that comes out of a turbine engine you.
- 9:46Know what I mean? These are little little.
- 9:48Jet engines? Sorry.
- 9:49Turbine engines, Maybe not the same thing.
- 9:51I. Don't know but they're like low
- 9:53low. Turbine engines.
- 9:55I'm not a rocket scientist. What's that thing?
- 9:57Altitude. Low altitude birds, yeah.
- 9:59So are planes when they're on the ground.
- 10:01Yeah, but I mean, they're like when they're on the ground,
- 10:04that's not I feel like. Like landing and taking off.
- 10:07Also, birds fly high. They do.
- 10:09Like eagles, for instance, sure fly real high.
- 10:11Yeah, yeah. Well, I don't even know where
- 10:15we're. Going Philadelphia Eagles.
- 10:16Yes, they they also poop. The football team, yes.
- 10:21Good. OK, I'm.
- 10:27Certain of it. Yeah, that's a good bet.
- 10:30I'm certain of it. But you know, that's it.
- 10:35It's probably not something that people talk about.
- 10:38We don't need to. I mean, people don't like
- 10:40talking about poop, but little kids love joking about poop and
- 10:45farts. That's true, and parents of
- 10:47little kids talk about poop a lot.
- 10:49They do. It's a big deal.
- 10:51I remember talking about poop. Yeah, I do too.
- 10:54A lot. With you even.
- 10:56A lot. And like some of the things
- 10:58that. Yeah.
- 10:59All your parents out there are laughing right now knowing what
- 11:01we're talking about. You've talked about consistency
- 11:03and color and all kinds of stop Just you.
- 11:07No, no, we've graduated. It's I.
- 11:11Know, I know, but I remember. This is so disgusting.
- 11:15Oh. God, we're going to have people
- 11:17turn off right now. They're turning it off.
- 11:19They're. Turning it off, but you know
- 11:22when your child goes to the bathroom in the potty chair in
- 11:25the beginning. It's so exciting.
- 11:27It's. So exciting.
- 11:29It's not. It is.
- 11:30It is. It is, you notice.
- 11:34If you keep going, I'll check back in in a.
- 11:36Minute, he's not going to listen.
- 11:37I'm going to get someone to turn off right now.
- 11:39Well, please come back because we don't always talk about this
- 11:42stuff. Come back to the next episode or
- 11:44go back to the other. One, it's the worst bonus
- 11:47episode. We're like, it's a bonus.
- 11:49Yay. Now let's talk about poop in
- 11:53detail. I was so excited when our oh,
- 11:56she's going to kill me. She doesn't she.
- 11:58She's no, she's yeah, she got whatever episodes in and was
- 12:02like, I know you guys, I'm over it.
- 12:03I was so excited when she first pooped in the potty that I took
- 12:06a picture and I sent it to you. And you know what?
- 12:09Traumatic memory. It's gone.
- 12:11Don't. I don't remember it.
- 12:13You did. I did.
- 12:15What kind of? Weird.
- 12:15Proud of. Her.
- 12:17Oh my. He could have just sent a text.
- 12:19Yay, here's the information. Nope, your sick self was like I
- 12:23know what I'm going to do. Going to take a picture, Send a
- 12:25picture. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:27You know what? Gross.
- 12:28Thank God for the ability to take a picture of absolutely
- 12:32anything. This is not a thank God moment.
- 12:34That's not what this is. It's like, thank God, yeah, I
- 12:42got a promotion. That's a moment.
- 12:46Yeah, yeah. No, no, you can.
- 12:48I got some great healthy news about life.
- 12:51Or no? You said thank God for pictures
- 12:54of poop. Yeah, pictures of poop.
- 12:56You know what's interesting? Like, Oh, I feel like our.
- 12:59We for sure are down to 1 listener maybe.
- 13:03Oh. But I feel like you don't,
- 13:09you're not like you remember. Well, you don't remember.
- 13:12You Live Today and you'll have like all the pictures from the
- 13:15film pictures that you took and you start flipping through them.
- 13:18Could you imagine like in 200 years flipping through pictures
- 13:22and all of a sudden you're like, why is there poop in a potty
- 13:24chair? What's going on?
- 13:26Like, why would anyone do you know?
- 13:28Just some things I feel like future people who would be
- 13:32looking, Thank God it isn't on film because could you imagine
- 13:36what everybody's taking pictures of?
- 13:38Like just happened to come upon it all the time.
- 13:42I would not want to be the future archaeologist that
- 13:46unravels the lives. They're just all shaking their
- 13:50heads. That's a pretty tame thing, I
- 13:53think, to find on a picture. But it was.
- 13:56Yeah, that was a time. It was one of those things.
- 13:59I mean, I think probably because I had been changing her diapers
- 14:02for so long, I was desensitized to the concept of it.
- 14:06Today I would not take that picture.
- 14:08That's a good call. I would not.
- 14:10Thanks. That'd also be extra weird.
- 14:15Would be. Just OK.
- 14:17I'll tell you what what? Else you got today.
- 14:19I. Don't know man.
- 14:25But I'll tell you what, if my mom's listening, she's no longer
- 14:28listening for sure. Yep, That's a moment.
- 14:31It's very much my family, but I think everybody has.
- 14:36I don't know. Do you never talk about that
- 14:37with anybody? Do you ever?
- 14:38You must. You were a boy.
- 14:40You must have laughed about those things.
- 14:41Kids laugh about that stuff, no? Sure.
- 14:45No, OK. I just don't know that I want to
- 14:47keep talking about it right now on the podcast.
- 14:50Great, but our episode is about disgust.
- 14:52It's not about poop. No, it's not about poop, I said.
- 14:55Disgust. You know what else you're
- 14:56talking about? Way less gross.
- 14:58It's not. It's not, is less gross.
- 15:01Yeah, I don't know if I agree with that.
- 15:04Well, who doesn't agree with that?
- 15:06I think snot's pretty. Can we have that be the
- 15:08question? Which is more gross, snot or
- 15:11poop? I'm going to win.
- 15:12Oh, that's I mean. Leave for sure.
- 15:16Interesting. My God, I hope we have another
- 15:18bonus episode. And that's the question.
- 15:21Another bonus gross episode. Well, maybe not.
- 15:25I don't know. Does the world need to?
- 15:27No, probably not. They sure don't need you going
- 15:34on about it more. I don't.
- 15:35Know if they need one Well anyhow, so this doctor that I
- 15:38was talking about earlier, right, his whole job is to
- 15:41figure out like and like and study disgust and things like
- 15:44that OK and I had found him very fascinating.
- 15:48He talked about, you know, kind of some certain concepts that we
- 15:52have and I'm not going to go into it because I will, we will
- 15:54lose some listeners, but the concept of water and how
- 15:58actually water is really disgusting because like all the
- 16:00water we have today existed once before.
- 16:03But it's purified by the process of Earth doing its thing.
- 16:07Yep, but it's still gross. Well, by that measure,
- 16:10everything is gross. The water I drink today it I
- 16:15don't want to talk about. I don't even.
- 16:16Want the clothes you're wearing? The couch you're sitting on?
- 16:19The dog you pet every day. Well, the dog, the air.
- 16:21You breathe the earth you walk on.
- 16:24It's all gross if you really get down to like, energy and
- 16:27molecular recycling. And of course.
- 16:30It's all gross. Well, this guy was talking about
- 16:33a lot of times what grosses people out is it's more what
- 16:38happens with other people or outside factors.
- 16:41The internal factors like if it comes of you, it's not as gross
- 16:46as it would be coming out of somebody else.
- 16:48Like blood is gross to people, but farts?
- 16:51Farts. Exactly.
- 16:53Just want to see that for the record.
- 16:54OK, we had walked away from that, Luke.
- 16:57As a kid. And you brought it back.
- 16:59Nope, I'm moving on. Yep.
- 17:01Yep, because they're. Disgusting too.
- 17:03Anyhow, so he was talking about how something that's really
- 17:09interesting that people. I'm laughing about farts.
- 17:16I'm such a child. I'm.
- 17:18Laughing. We're talking about doctors.
- 17:20Doctors. Let's talk about doctors.
- 17:22So we're talking about. Science of disgust.
- 17:24The science. We're talking about science
- 17:26right now. We're good, Good.
- 17:27Serious. I know.
- 17:28Let's get serious about. Science.
- 17:30And so he was talking about how disgust is something that we
- 17:35learn we're not innately born with.
- 17:38OK, Like it's and disgust is actually also something that has
- 17:43evolved in humans. OK, as like I said earlier, that
- 17:47super great quote to you know kind of keep you if.
- 17:52You really want the eject button.
- 17:54I want the eject button. Yeah, like when I was in that
- 17:57grocery store walking down that aisle.
- 17:59Just. Boom, the guy is not coughing at
- 18:02me and he's gone. Right.
- 18:03Yep, I don't know. I really.
- 18:05Like I'd like an eject button for other people too.
- 18:07I. Really.
- 18:08I really like the idea of a eject button.
- 18:10But anyhow, he was talking about like that this is a thing.
- 18:14I mean, babies learn disgust from their parents.
- 18:19Sure, they learn the look of disgust from their parents, but
- 18:25in general, like that isn't that isn't something that happens.
- 18:27And This is why other animals don't show disgust.
- 18:31And they do some really gross things.
- 18:33Sure, we have moral disgust, like things that are disgusting
- 18:37to us morally, of course, that make no sense, right?
- 18:41Like, if you think about right, eating meat, kind of gross if
- 18:46you really think about it, but you're not grossed out by eating
- 18:49meat. But if I were to, say, eat the
- 18:50eyeball of a cow, you're suddenly like, whoa, that's
- 18:54disgusting. But not everywhere.
- 18:56Right. Not everywhere, right?
- 18:58It's also partly cultural, right?
- 19:00I mean, not, I mean they're general or universal things.
- 19:03And we stopped talking about the number one universal thing about
- 19:063 minutes ago. So I'm not going back to that.
- 19:09But but like how there is that. But one of the things he was, he
- 19:14had in his. Just thinking about foods.
- 19:17Yeah, there's really like it. Literally common thing.
- 19:20Yeah, cow tongue. Yeah, cow tongue.
- 19:22Gross. People like it Like it's a like
- 19:25really big thing, you know, and like what changes things and
- 19:29make things disgusting, right. Like if you have, I'll talk
- 19:32about another. I'll go back to the other thing
- 19:33I was thinking about earlier. But like, if you have a, we're
- 19:37going to talk about a glass of water.
- 19:40OK. If a bug falls into your glass
- 19:43of water, yeah, it is immediately disgusting, sure,
- 19:48and you no longer can have it. Most of us, probably.
- 19:51Right. I mean, unless you're really
- 19:53thirsty, you're not going to be scooping out the bug, you know?
- 19:56I mean, I feel like I probably have scooped a bug out of a
- 19:59drink in my life, maybe. I mean.
- 20:03Probably. Well, how about this?
- 20:05You're right with the water and we'll get back to it.
- 20:07But like, you're outdoors and you're eating and a family lands
- 20:12on your food. You swish the fly away and you
- 20:14keep eating. Everybody does that.
- 20:15I mean, I really stay away from that bite.
- 20:19No, you don't. I do.
- 20:20No, you don't. I don't eat outside.
- 20:22I've watched you eat outside and this is the thing everybody
- 20:27does, that you swish away the fly and then you eat the food.
- 20:30I mean. Anyway, glass of water.
- 20:32OK. Oh.
- 20:34So anyhow, like I said earlier, I was talking about if it comes
- 20:38from you, it is not as disgusting or sometimes not
- 20:42disgusting at all. And he said that virtually
- 20:47everybody would be disgusted to spit in their own glass of water
- 20:53and drink it. And I fully agree that is
- 20:56disgusting. I would not do it.
- 20:58Don't do that. But think about it logically.
- 21:02Why? Because it's gross.
- 21:06But the spit is already in your mouth.
- 21:08But you made it exit your mouth. But you need the spit to digest
- 21:15things, so it literally its entire job is to use itself to
- 21:21make the stuff go down. Your scientifics?
- 21:24Maybe I'm not as. No, I need to drink a water.
- 21:27Yeah, don't spit in it first, but but yeah, so like, why?
- 21:32Why would that be gross? It would be totally disgusting
- 21:35and there's no logical reason to allow someone else to spit in
- 21:38your water and drink it. But like, there's no rational
- 21:42reason as to why that would be bad.
- 21:44But you know, I'm not going to do it.
- 21:46We're not going to do it. Almost no one would do that,
- 21:50right? So that tells me that some
- 21:53reasons of disgust are thoroughly illogical.
- 21:57Sure, because there is no logic that would say that you should
- 22:01have anything that would stop you from drinking that water.
- 22:04It literally already is in there.
- 22:06It's going to be in there. It's a logical argument.
- 22:08Yeah, so. Doesn't change the facts though.
- 22:11No, but it should. Just spit in your water and go.
- 22:17Well, no big. Deal.
- 22:19Oh, I feel like that would be a really good prank if you get
- 22:22past it. You know we're never pranking
- 22:26each other. What are you talking about?
- 22:28I. Don't know.
- 22:30I mean, if anyone, because it didn't say everybody, it did say
- 22:34most people couldn't do it. You know, hey, test your own
- 22:39logic, test your own brain power.
- 22:40Can you do it? I don't know.
- 22:41I don't know if I can do it. I don't know.
- 22:45You for sure couldn't. You don't even finish the last
- 22:48portion of your drinks because, you know, yeah, that some of it
- 22:52is. Backwash.
- 22:53Backwash. Yeah, Yeah.
- 22:54I won't do it. It's it's disgusting.
- 22:56I do and I don't care not. Seeing not.
- 22:58Just because. Because it's mostly still the
- 23:01thing I'm drinking. Yeah, even though I know part of
- 23:03it is spit. I mean, that's logical.
- 23:06Logical. I can't get past it though.
- 23:08Huh. Huh, Well, I don't know.
- 23:11I wouldn't recommend anybody do it, but also I kind of want to
- 23:13see someone do it in front of someone else and see what their
- 23:15reaction. Is oh God, well, you know what
- 23:18mine is because I just did it. I was like, why no, you don't
- 23:22have to drink that are. You sure?
- 23:25There's more water. So gross.
- 23:30Back to water. Think about it when we were kids
- 23:31and we drink out of the hose, right?
- 23:33I wouldn't eat dirt, but I drink out of the hose.
- 23:35It was literally just sitting on the ground.
- 23:37Water tastes better than dirt. Well, but my mouth is then
- 23:40touching the hose that was touching the ground.
- 23:43OK. Why is that suddenly OK?
- 23:46I don't know, because you're a kid.
- 23:47You just said it's learned. Would you drink out of a hose
- 23:50today? No, because it was on the
- 23:53ground. There you go, touching the dirt.
- 23:55See my thing would be about spiders because spiders like
- 23:57water hoses and I'm not trying to get no spider webs in my
- 24:00mouth The. Itsy bitsy spider.
- 24:02Yep, he likes the water. Spouts sure does.
- 24:05Oh, interesting. I mean, it's not that many
- 24:08spiders that. We don't even talk about
- 24:10spiders. Oh gosh, are you disgusted by
- 24:14spiders or scared of them? I'm.
- 24:16Not disgusted by spiders. That's a good question.
- 24:20I feel like I would need time to think about it.
- 24:22They're just all wrong, so. Yeah, I mean eject, right?
- 24:27Why does it have 8 legs? You know what I'm saying?
- 24:29Why? Who doesn't need them?
- 24:31No, he might be disgusted because it is to protect against
- 24:35physical or moral danger. It's a moral danger.
- 24:42That's what those are. They're morally corrupt.
- 24:45Yeah, yeah, they, I mean, I don't mind them, but but there's
- 24:49many good reasons for disgust. It does keep us safe in many
- 24:53ways. Like you were talking earlier
- 24:54about, you know, like you having zero knowledge about about meat,
- 25:00like explain your thoughts on that.
- 25:02But that you can smell something.
- 25:05Oh, right, right, right. So, So I am not nor have I ever
- 25:09been like a chef or a food educated, like a food scientist
- 25:16or whatever. And there have on more than one
- 25:20occasion. But specifically the one that
- 25:22sticks out to me was once there was pork that we had in the
- 25:27fridge. And I learned after that day
- 25:31they if you put pork in the fridge and each like type of
- 25:34meat has a different type of life in the fridge, but
- 25:38specifically pork, like if you leave it in the fridge, you're
- 25:42supposed to use it. I think it's by the third day,
- 25:45but it's obviously everything is best fresh so you want to use it
- 25:48right away. But I think it had been in the
- 25:50fridge for like 3 days, maybe 4. I don't think it was longer than
- 25:54that. But I opened the package and I
- 25:57smelled it like I could smell something was off.
- 26:00And so then I got closer to like give it a sniff and then I was
- 26:04like, oh, that smells bad. So that's probably this learned
- 26:09disgust thing where you have like in your, in your
- 26:11evolutionary system where like somehow my body knows that that
- 26:17smell might make me sick. So I'm disgusted by the smell.
- 26:21You know, you wrinkle your nose and you say you and and then I
- 26:24threw it out. I was like, I don't want to make
- 26:26this. I'm I'm going to get sick if I
- 26:28eat this in my evolved disgust brain and I I found that to be
- 26:35interesting. So same thing I was talking
- 26:37about like the difference like uncooked for me anyway,
- 26:41hamburger or or beef, I don't like the smell of it, but cooked
- 26:47I do and it's probably a similar thing.
- 26:50I'm certain that there's more risk of contamination or
- 26:55sickness from eating raw meat than there is from eating cooked
- 26:59meat. As you know, we all learn and
- 27:00know. Yeah.
- 27:01Yeah. So there's something that must
- 27:03tell you. Raw meat bad.
- 27:06With the odd exception of sushi. Nope, no, no.
- 27:09Well, not for you, but I don't mind the smell of raw sushi.
- 27:15Yeah, yeah, no, it smells terrible.
- 27:17Do you dislike the smell of like raw?
- 27:19Like live, not raw, live fish. Do I?
- 27:23Like the smell of. A No.
- 27:25Are you disgusted by it? Like a fish you catch out of the
- 27:28water? OK, It smells bad.
- 27:31Doesn't bother me. That's weird.
- 27:34You're more evolved. I am more evolved and I, I
- 27:36became even more evolved when I was pregnant and I had super
- 27:41sense of like it was a, it was like a superpower and all of a
- 27:46sudden everything was so much more fragrant and it didn't like
- 27:52I have sinus issues. So in general, there are times
- 27:56where you know, like I'm, I probably didn't smell a lot of
- 27:58things, but ever since I, I mean, I don't have that super
- 28:01sense of smell like that super super.
- 28:03It's it's super though still it's still.
- 28:06You didn't say super. It's still enhanced from before
- 28:10I was pregnant, but there were several foods that I would eat
- 28:13that before I was pregnant. Loved them once I got pregnant
- 28:16and I was smelling and I was like, oh, can't do it, can't do
- 28:19it. Lunch meat was one of those
- 28:20things. I mean, I used to love like a
- 28:22croissant sandwich. Oh, that sounds really good.
- 28:26Oh, a good croissant sandwich. It's been a minute.
- 28:28I might need to get some, but I couldn't eat that meat during
- 28:33the whole pregnancy. I so but then afterwards some
- 28:37point, you know, some of that sense of smell got away, but it
- 28:40was 100% like danger. Don't do it, you know.
- 28:44So I found that. It makes sense that you would be
- 28:46more sense like strong and discussed, you know, reaction to
- 28:55foods because you're trying to keep a whole system going.
- 28:59Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, but that's kind of a
- 29:02like, what's my superpower? I smell?
- 29:08People get that too. I mean, everyone gets it with
- 29:10spoiled milk or other dairy or like, yeah, yeah, you can just
- 29:15tell if something smells wrong and you're like, well, I can't
- 29:17eat that. So, but these are some universal
- 29:20things, right? Yeah.
- 29:21So look, let me ask you a question.
- 29:24Oh, OK, and now the the moment you've all been waiting for.
- 29:28Ladies and gentlemen in this corner claiming to weigh in at
- 29:31135 lbs, we have the venerable raining.
- 29:36Well, well, I don't know when this episode's going to air.
- 29:38She's been whooping me for a while.
- 29:40Maybe I'm caught up by this episode.
- 29:42I hope so. We don't know.
- 29:43But right now, the venerable champion in our current
- 29:46relationship status. Thank you as of this.
- 29:48Recording. Thank you.
- 29:50We have Amber. All right, and in this corner
- 29:53I'm going to give you some props and say that you probably want a
- 29:56few more. Oh, I like that.
- 29:58Why'd you wink at the camera though?
- 30:01Don't do that. It's sneaky.
- 30:02The audio listener can't see your sneaky winks.
- 30:06That's messed up. But you're sitting over here,
- 30:11you got a little grossed out by me earlier.
- 30:19Anyhow. Yeah, for sure.
- 30:21You're coming in though, but you're not looking gross at all.
- 30:24You're looking. Good, not disgusted by.
- 30:26Me. I'm not.
- 30:27Disgusted. This is a plus.
- 30:29But you've come here today. You.
- 30:30Didn't even wink at the camera. I did.
- 30:32I not. You didn't.
- 30:34We'll have to check the footage. Check the footage.
- 30:38You're coming in and I've got a question for you.
- 30:41OK in this. Corner Luke for you.
- 30:43Here we go. We've been talking about things
- 30:46that disgust us. What is something that disgusts
- 30:50you that does not disgust everybody else or does not
- 30:58disgust the people who are doing it?
- 31:01Oh, OK. That's a fair question.
- 31:04But that's not the question. This is a versus battle, right
- 31:08Of the who's picked the yeah, Disgustinger of the two more.
- 31:12Disgustinger of the two. Most disgustingest anyway, it's.
- 31:17Good, gooder. Disgusting.
- 31:18There's a dog in the background who just made a disgusting odor.
- 31:22She did. Thanks.
- 31:23Dog in background? Well, the the that was a weirdly
- 31:30worded question. I thought it was worded.
- 31:32Perfectly disgusts me. That doesn't disgust the one
- 31:36who? Does it?
- 31:37Yeah. Does it?
- 31:38Yeah. How about just a thing that
- 31:40disgusts me? Because really the question is a
- 31:41versus battle that's still accurate, your description, but
- 31:44it's just throwing me off. So things that disgust me are
- 31:48many, I'm certain. One that disgusts me often, and
- 31:57this is maybe going to bother many of our listeners.
- 32:01OK. 00. Look at you getting
- 32:03controversial. Because it's.
- 32:05Often are you going to get canceled?
- 32:07No, OK. I mean, maybe by gross men.
- 32:13And yeah, I just called you out. If you're out there and you're a
- 32:16dude and you're listening to this, you're nasty if you do
- 32:20this. OK, so everyone goes to the
- 32:23bathroom, right? I thought we were stopping
- 32:26talking about the bathroom. We're we stopped talking about
- 32:30part of that operation, OK, the the.
- 32:33For the record, Luke brought it back up.
- 32:36Well, because it's this is the thing that disgusts me that I've
- 32:40chosen as my topic to to throw the gauntlet down with.
- 32:44So it actually could be technically both operations, but
- 32:48in any event, great. That pause was for just reality
- 32:55for a minute. So I don't know because I don't
- 33:00find myself in a woman's bathroom how often this may
- 33:03happen there. But for for men, I will say that
- 33:09it is a shockingly common occurrence that a man goes to
- 33:15the bathroom, in a public place no less.
- 33:19I mean, like maybe I'd find some exception with that home, but I
- 33:22don't 'cause I don't live on my own.
- 33:24Maybe if you lived on your own. Nope, it's still gross.
- 33:27OK, sorry. I was trying to find a way out
- 33:29to make it feel better and it just doesn't.
- 33:30So in a public place, if I go to a men's room, I frequently I
- 33:37couldn't put a number on it, but it's too much see other men
- 33:42using the bathroom in any of its capacity and walking right past
- 33:46the sink, no washing of the hands right out the door.
- 33:51And I am always disgusted by it like I have been forever and
- 33:57ever. I also like I don't like it when
- 34:00a bathroom doesn't have a trash can near the exit door because I
- 34:05see guys not washing their hands after they've just been doing
- 34:09all kind of what not touching their business and wiping their
- 34:12who knows and listen. And then you just leave and
- 34:14touch the door handle. Like, man, come on, what are you
- 34:18trying to? I don't want to touch none of
- 34:20that. Keep it to yourself.
- 34:23That's what the soap is for. They put the sink in the
- 34:27bathroom for a reason, people. It's not to just walk past it.
- 34:32So it happens all the time. And like, I know people
- 34:37personally, like I'm not going to name names or say how I know
- 34:42these people 'cause I know lots of people so that there's no
- 34:45names or whatever, but. Will you tell me in private?
- 34:48Sure. I don't want to know.
- 34:49You don't want to know. Actually, I'm not going to tell
- 34:51you no, 'cause you're going to be like aw, so.
- 34:53Like wash your hands like. Who we're not, we got a we're
- 34:57no, we're not naming names anyway.
- 34:59So I know people who do not I there are people who I know who
- 35:06have, I have never seen them wash their hands and I have seen
- 35:09them in the public men's best restroom multiple times never.
- 35:15And I just don't get it. Like, first of all, if you do
- 35:19the washing, right, like we learned in the dark times in
- 35:23COVID, 20 seconds plus maybe you add another 10 for turning the
- 35:27faucet on a white, wiping your hands when you're done,
- 35:29whatever. Like, so it's 30 seconds, right?
- 35:32It's not a big commitment. It's not a lot of time.
- 35:35If you aggregate the data, you're not going to be like, oh,
- 35:37boy, I wish I wouldn't have washed my hands all my life.
- 35:40I could have saved 20 minutes. Like, it's a very small amount
- 35:43of time. And as we pointed out earlier,
- 35:46it prevents disease. It prevents all kinds of things.
- 35:51So the fact that people aren't just making it a default to wash
- 35:54their hands baffles me. And I don't know that I find
- 35:59many things more disgusting because it's so common and it's
- 36:03so like everywhere. Doesn't matter what state I'm
- 36:07in, doesn't matter whether I'm in a fancy restaurant or a the
- 36:12ball game. Like it literally doesn't matter
- 36:15where you go. The dudes are just not.
- 36:19I would not say I don't know if it's 5050, but it's not.
- 36:22It's not surprising to see someone not wash their hands.
- 36:26I've even heard people I've said stuff every once in awhile and I
- 36:29had the argument come back one time.
- 36:32Well, I took a shower today so my parts are clean.
- 36:34It's like what? What about the rest of what just
- 36:38happened? Do you not know how science
- 36:41works? And molecules And like anyway,
- 36:45anyway, so that's that's my thing and it's nasty.
- 36:49So OK, I'm just going to ask 2 follow up questions.
- 36:53I can answer questions that's. Fine, and I'm going to.
- 36:56I'm mad about everything right now.
- 36:57Dispel A myth that you have. It happens in the women's room
- 37:02too. Not 50% of the time, but I would
- 37:05say, you know, every 10th time I'm in the bathroom there's a
- 37:08woman that's walking without washing her hands.
- 37:11Nasty. It's yes, yes or yeah, Yeah.
- 37:14And again, it's 30 seconds. Just wash your hands.
- 37:17But remember, we talked about it's not as disgusting to you if
- 37:20it's coming out of you. So they're probably like, you
- 37:23know, no big deal. It's my, you know, whatever.
- 37:25Well and to be fair, y'all aren't holding anything so.
- 37:30Well, OK. Yeah, I'm just saying.
- 37:33I know it's disgusting, yeah, but I gotta, I gotta just just
- 37:38to play devil's advocate. For no good reason, there is no
- 37:42good. Reason the devil doesn't need an
- 37:44advocate. Wow.
- 37:46But. Great movie sidebar.
- 37:51I don't remember that movie. Really.
- 37:52Al Pacino? No.
- 37:54Played the devil I know who else?
- 37:55Okay, carry on. When you.
- 37:58How do you not know that movie, never mind carrying on?
- 38:00So there have been a couple times I've been out like at
- 38:04porta potties and they're out of the little things, the the hand
- 38:08sanitizer porta potties, right? They're disgusting, right?
- 38:12It's. Like the grossest thing.
- 38:14I know. And to be out of.
- 38:16That and to be out of that. So thankfully a lot of times I
- 38:19do have the hand sanitizers sometimes I mean I don't, but
- 38:24luckily whenever we've gone like cuz we go off roading and they
- 38:28have the porta potties there, but luckily you have hand
- 38:31sanitizer in your vehicle. I do.
- 38:32So I'm safe there, right? But like still I'm like, there's
- 38:35that, you know, 10 foot, 20 foot opportunity where I didn't have
- 38:41my hands washed, you know, and you just feel like really yucky.
- 38:46I'm not a camper. But what do you do when like
- 38:49when you were a kid and you went camping, did you really carry a
- 38:52round hand sanitizer? What'd you do?
- 38:54I. Don't even know if hand
- 38:55sanitizer was like a thing credibly.
- 38:57Not I don't think we cared. We had soap.
- 39:01You went to a place and washed your hands?
- 39:03I don't know cuz I literally don't think.
- 39:05So probably not OK. I mean cuz you're probably not
- 39:10in a place that easily has yeah of huge supply.
- 39:14I mean I did a lot of camping by lakes but I probably didn't go
- 39:17down to the lake and wash my hands.
- 39:19Also, kids are grosser than men. I think boys specifically are
- 39:25grosser than men because they care even less so like I mean.
- 39:35If you go camping today, would you bring hand sanitizer for?
- 39:38That for sure. OK, I don't know I really have 0
- 39:43desired. You do also, depending on what
- 39:44you're doing camping, you bring soap with you because you know,
- 39:48but soap is now unless, unless you're going for like a 2 day
- 39:51and you know, you're just going to get stinky and gross and you
- 39:54commit. I know people that do that.
- 39:56We know people that do that and whatever if that's your deal, I
- 40:00feel like that's slightly different and not that I'm
- 40:04advocating for it, but like at least you're not walking past a
- 40:08sink that has soap and running water.
- 40:10OK, That's just so different. You have to pass it to get to
- 40:13the door like. I agree.
- 40:15I agree. How do you skip that part?
- 40:17There's. No excuse there.
- 40:19Really isn't. I can't like man.
- 40:23And you're announcing to everybody else that you don't
- 40:25wash your hands like the. Yeah, like it's just have you no
- 40:29shame? The social contract you have
- 40:32requires that you stop there and wash your hands.
- 40:35Yeah, well, not for everyone, I guess.
- 40:38I don't know. There's people shaming you,
- 40:40looking at you. You should just do it.
- 40:42That's my opinion now, obviously.
- 40:46And then they touch the door handle.
- 40:48And other things. Yeah.
- 40:50Yeah, yeah, it's awful. OK, OK.
- 40:54So that's pretty disgusting. And I also am grossed out every
- 40:57time I see that happen in, well, any bathroom.
- 41:01Well, now you know that it doesn't happen on the other
- 41:04side. Right.
- 41:06So wait, that means the door. Handle.
- 41:08Going in is cleaner than the door handle going out.
- 41:14Well, most like. In a men's room.
- 41:16Yes, yeah, probably. That's gross, sorry y'all.
- 41:20Sure, sorry y'all but luckily a lot of times you can push it
- 41:25with your foot. I'm definitely if the if it
- 41:28allows some of them have an interior pole to open situation.
- 41:32Yeah, yeah. That's yeah, I.
- 41:34Don't know. OK, so so that's a that's
- 41:37disgusting. I agree.
- 41:38That's disgusting for me, my thing that is disgusting to me,
- 41:43but not to the perpetrator. And that's what I'm calling it.
- 41:47OK, criminal. OK.
- 41:50It is downright criminal. Yeah, is eating communal food.
- 41:56OK. Licking your fingers and then
- 42:02going back in with your fingers to eat communal food.
- 42:07OK, that's gross. It's disgusting.
- 42:11Yep, and I wish I could say I've seen it once or twice.
- 42:16Yeah. Now I'm going to give these
- 42:21people who I've seen do it the benefit of the doubt that they
- 42:25don't realize that they're doing it, but it's still disgusting,
- 42:31right? Like, I mean, here's a oh God,
- 42:32there's this Doritos commercial right now.
- 42:34I'd. Probably do that.
- 42:36OK. Well, yes, you've done it
- 42:38before. OK.
- 42:39There's a Doritos commercial right now.
- 42:41I don't know if you've seen it if you have.
- 42:42Oh God, you're going to talk about this commercial?
- 42:46No, Yes. It shouldn't even be a
- 42:48commercial. Somebody in marketing needs to
- 42:50get fired at Doritos. So for those of you who maybe
- 42:53haven't seen it or so far in the future, right now, this is
- 42:56dropped at this episode. By the just said current year
- 42:592026, yes. OK.
- 43:01I don't know when you're listening to this.
- 43:03There's this kid who's not kid. Adult.
- 43:06He's an adult. He's an adult, sure, at a
- 43:09Barber. Shop Young Adult.
- 43:10Young adult at a Barber shop and.
- 43:14It's so gross. He's getting his hair cut and
- 43:18his Barber is, you know, like sitting there cutting his hair,
- 43:22talking with people, eating Doritos, and that Dorito dust is
- 43:26like, all over his fingers. Yep, as it gets.
- 43:29As it gets and I mean I will lick some Dorito dust off my
- 43:35fingers, sure common Dorito bag, but I will lick I mean like that
- 43:39can be the best part, right like it's like oh, that's that's full
- 43:42flavor, full concentration and. As he's cutting the dude.
- 43:45'S hair the the other guy, the patron, the haircut, he just.
- 43:52Sucks the finger and. Other guys, other guys.
- 43:55Finger, yeah. Yeah, yeah, it's a disgusting
- 43:59commercial, but it sticks with you.
- 44:01And of course, everybody's reaction is like, Oh no, God.
- 44:06Oh, I just don't even want to support them right now.
- 44:10I know, but it's actually. Like, that's disgusting.
- 44:13And that's, you know, especially if he had gone to the bathroom.
- 44:16And not washed his hands. Oh God, I'm gonna.
- 44:20Assume if he had it like I. Don't know that's where it went
- 44:25too far right there, but it. Sticks.
- 44:29With you, but anyhow, like, so I understand that.
- 44:32I mean, I'm not going to be like, oh, I would never lick my
- 44:34own fingers, I won't lie. But it is if I'm in my contained
- 44:39in my own container. Yeah, and.
- 44:43Like I. Won't lick, eat, lick, eat,
- 44:45lick, eat because like, that's just going to get messy.
- 44:48That's like the end. Oh.
- 44:51Do you lick? Eat well.
- 44:52Depends on the food. OK, Doritos.
- 44:56Or Cheetos. Anything I think I lick in
- 45:00between I got. Like a little snack bag.
- 45:02I lick my fingers each time saving it.
- 45:04No, because I I don't well, here's the difference between
- 45:07you and me specific to that. I don't like there to be stuff
- 45:11on my fingers. That's true.
- 45:12That's true. So like.
- 45:14Like eating BBQ. Or whatever I'm I'm cleaning my
- 45:16fingers off in between bites while I'm eating the ribs.
- 45:19You're oh. Yeah, ribs are also disgusting
- 45:23to watch somebody else eat. Delicious though they're.
- 45:26Delicious to eat, I love. Ribs.
- 45:28It's delicious, man. And I have.
- 45:30That issue of seeing people like I will literally sit there
- 45:34eating chips, lick my own finger in my own area.
- 45:38Someone else will be doing it their own area and I'm like,
- 45:41that's disgusting. You know, like looking down at
- 45:47my just like you. How dare you.
- 45:50Gross. So if.
- 45:52I do that even when I'm doing it myself.
- 45:54Yeah, I guarantee you if you put your hand back into something
- 45:58that I'm touching. Yeah.
- 46:00Done. It's well I've seen you do.
- 46:02That so gross. Oh, you have.
- 46:04Oh. For sure.
- 46:04You're like, no, that's yours. Now, yeah, yes, here at home.
- 46:07I mean, Oh yeah. I and then for the.
- 46:09Listener if you've tried to. Do the math and you're like
- 46:12wait, what about popcorn? We literally in our house have
- 46:14separate popcorn bowls. What do you mean why?
- 46:17Why? What popcorn?
- 46:18Special because. OK, so growing up we just all
- 46:23shared the popcorn, right? But why is?
- 46:26OK. And I'm sure.
- 46:27That me and my brothers licked our buttery fingers No Yeah, I'm
- 46:34sure like put your hands back in here.
- 46:35Yep, for. Sure.
- 46:36See, there is a thing where like we have this.
- 46:40Luke doesn't share food. Luke doesn't share food because
- 46:43Luke wants to eat all of this food.
- 46:45I do. I want to eat it, Luke.
- 46:47Tells other people. Amber doesn't share food because
- 46:50he knows that I cannot stand the concept of someone else's mouth
- 46:54on my food. It's not that I'm like or a
- 46:56drink, right? It's not that.
- 46:58I'm sitting there like. Don't you dare share.
- 47:00Water with her, don't put your fork that's.
- 47:02Been in your mouth, out of my food.
- 47:04Don't do it. Yeah, she's.
- 47:06Out I'm. Out fully but anyhow again more
- 47:09evolved I. Guess, I guess, but.
- 47:11Like and I, I appreciate that you defend me to people who
- 47:15would not have that be an issue. You don't defend me, but it's a
- 47:18logical Amber I. Agree with the the sentiment of
- 47:22the whole thing like it makes sense, yeah, but I appreciate
- 47:25that you. Like for anything it's weird
- 47:27between. You and me specifically I guess,
- 47:30but you accept. It and it's, I mean, we kiss on
- 47:33the mouth. Stop telling.
- 47:35People that. I don't kiss and tell that's but
- 47:38we do not share food we. Don't share food no for.
- 47:41That reason. But but that's what's gross to
- 47:44me, and I want y'all to really just sit there before you vote
- 47:48and think about being in both situations.
- 47:50Yeah, sitting at a restaurant with friends and maybe one of
- 47:58those restaurants that's got those common chips, you know,
- 48:02what are those things called? Tortilla chips or like the the.
- 48:07The the bowl of peanuts or or. Popcorn or like these?
- 48:12Are common things I just want you to think about.
- 48:15The other person, not your significant other.
- 48:18Maybe a friend, maybe an acquaintance, maybe a Co worker,
- 48:22maybe your boss. Think about them licking their
- 48:26fingers and then going back in. I'm out.
- 48:29How does that make you feel? I'm not I'm done.
- 48:32I also want. You to go and think.
- 48:33About walking or being at the sink, washing your hands because
- 48:38you're a reasonable human being after going to the bathroom and
- 48:41seeing that person walk behind you and watch them touch that.
- 48:45Handle just the worst. Which is worse?
- 48:48Vote for it. On Spotify, Yeah, please do.
- 48:51Also, like the podcast? Share the podcast, please.
- 48:57And. Rate the podcast, yes.
- 49:00Tell people that we're awesome. Yeah, yeah.
- 49:03And. We wash our hands.
- 49:04We do and we don't. Lick our fingers in between.
- 49:07Communal food bites. We won't do it.
- 49:09I have switched. I use napkins.
- 49:11That's my deal. Yes, actually you.
- 49:14Have a napkin under you all the time.
- 49:16All the time. Yep.
- 49:17Yep, I'm. Defending you.
- 49:19Thank you. And your.
- 49:21Evolved. State.
- 49:22I appreciate it with the not. Winning argument.
- 49:24I just want to end on that. I I mean, I'm sure I feel like
- 49:29more people would find. Yours more disgusting but I
- 49:33don't know, especially if they took it to.
- 49:35The second one, right, Right. Right, OK.
- 49:39Yep, I'm disgusted. Here we go.
- 49:42See you next time. I want to do the whole thing.
- 49:48I just want to do my own thing. I just want to do my own thing.
- 49:55I just want to do my own thing.
