- FCTTN EPISODE 37: This week on Full Credit to the Noise, Heartbreak at the House of 18s, while Dix Mob rejoices, and Lando does Lando things in singers. Welcome to Full Credit to the Noise. Well hello, good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and welcome to a full credit to the noise. You can find this podcast on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook at FCTTN Podcast. You can find me on Instagram, Twitter, Blue Sky, and Facebook at Former underscore legend. You can find the bike across me on Twitter at AVL underscore motorsport. He's on Instagram at AVL dot motorsport. He's a man who this week dominated the stage at the very first full credit to the noise live show. He's urged the government not to open the Mount Victoria Pass, and tonight he's wearing a milk mustache. Welcome to Speak Cafe's Andrew Van Luren. Hello, former. You know that it definitely wasn't me dominating on the stage at our live show. There was some people definitely dominating on that stage. Your performance was absolutely sublime. and our guests, they were just fantastic, man. That was it feels like it was weeks ago, to be honest, given the fact we've had a whole Bathus 1000 since then. But that was like a genuine life highlight that night for me. That was unreal. I know you've done plenty of those things before, but that was just I was you know, a little nervous going into it, but that was so much fun. And I reckon the the hundred and few people in the room won't forget that one in a hurry. Yeah, I agree. It was amazing and it was made by the two guests, Ryan Walkenshaw and Greg Murphy. Absolutely unbelievable. obviously if you weren't there, you're not gonna get to see anything about it because that's as far as we can sort of speak about what was said on the night, except I do have something a little bit later to say. But It was amazing and they were so generous. And I did say to Ryan on Saturday, Thanks very much. You've broken every possibility of us doing another live show because I know I don't know who we're going to get. I've got no idea. It's so tempting to d to be one and done with it because I just don't know how it could be better than that. But anyway, let's let's just sit on it for a bit. Let's let's decompress and then debrief and then see what we're gonna do next year. I spoke to a person who could be a live guest this morning for the next one and I he said I don't know if I want to follow them. And I said, Yeah, look, I get that. It'd be like following Bradman into bat at the moment. But by this time next year it'll all be forgotten and everyone'll be tonguing for a new one. So let's let's go with that for the time being anyway. Well, it is the end of Bathis week. Thank God, some would say. 'cause that live show certainly makes it an extra it feels like an extra week on top of it, but it was a long week, mate. It was a long race. We'll get to that a little bit later. But let's look at our champagne and shizen for the weekend. And want start in the champagne section with Aaron Seaton Avell. Now we were both at a Speed Cafe Barbecue and Stephen Buffal Mayus' birthday on Saturday night, and we were talk got about how Aaron Seaton would go starting the car. And I remember one bloke in particular had a couple of beers and he had a white hot go saying that he hadn't been racing and he'll shit himself when the lights go out and how wrong that was. And AVL, I'm happy to name the bloke here as one of the worst judges in the sports history. And if you're listening, At former underscore legend. Good call, you absolute peanut. Look, in absolute fairness, there were some external concerns around how Aaron Seaton was going to go starting that car. The pressure of being on pole at the Bathus 1000 is massive for any driver, let alone a co driver with limited experience. He had also been slowest in the co driver session. I think that was on the Saturday. So there was just these kind of Whispers around, you know, would MSR even put him in the car to start? And they obviously, you know, he's done those wildcard starts. They know better than anyone what he's actually capable of. They can see all the data. They I was gonna say took the risk, but as it played out, that it wasn't a risk because he just did a fantastic job. He got a great start and he really set up the race. He led the whole first in. A seat in leading at Bathurst, there was just something incredibly cool about that. And I think in the same way that Zach Bates really I think exceeded expectations in the shootout because, you know, you think back to that shootout and that lap, and he's going out last and Brody Kastecki's just put a pretty good time down. Like running that down in those conditions under that pressure is a really difficult thing to do. And that's not something I really thought Zach at this stage of his career would be able to do. And he did it. And I think there's plenty of people in the paddock who were incredibly surprised at just how fast and how. Clean and mistake free that Aaron Seaton was during all his stints in the race. He did a fantastic job, and I think both of those guys have gone up in a lot of people's estimations because it was a fantastic drive from from two from two young drivers. and yeah, I I don't know what else to say. I'm just absolutely thrilled for both of those guys, to be honest. My next champagne, and it's a roundabout kind of way, it's Ryan Wood OVL. Now he had a pretty bad weekend, all things considered. But who would have thought the crash in practice and then I think he banged himself up a little in that crash. But that was like nowhere near the worst thing that ever happened to him because Ryan Walkenshaw did him dirty at the live show and that's as much as we can say. But it was the talk of the paddock come Thursday morning, let's be honest. Yes, it was. And unfortunately things didn't get much better for either side of the Walkenshaw garage. To be honest, I think that was probably the highlight of Ryan Walkenshaw's weekend as well, was coming and doing the live show on Wednesday because man, they had a tough weekend. They had a tough weekend. They obviously that was the only car unchanged heading into the Enduros collectively in terms of parity adjustments. at no point did the Supers really look all that quick in any way. And obviously, you know, that if the car is lacking a bit of straight line, the drivers have to push harder. And we saw both of the Walkenshaw drivers make mistakes at exactly the same part of the track. And end up doing a fair bit of damage. So, you know, being being slow is is a horrible feeling for a race team. slogging away in bath this week all week and just knowing you're on a hiding to nothing because you just don't have the car pace wouldn't be all that much fun. And then loading two, because you know, the reality is that there's no way Ryan Wood's car is not gonna need work on it before the Gold Coast. You know, they obviously got it back on track, but it it wouldn't have been right. So effectively putting two crashed race cars into a transporter, that is again worse nightmare stuff for a race team to have to go back and not only you know take take those cars back and have to work on them, they gotta be back on the road in a few days to get to the Gold Coast. So like it's a it's a yeah, it's you you can imagine that that spirits were pretty low around the Walkenshore garage on Sunday evening and they'll be already cracking into some pretty hard work to get the get the cars fixed and get the transporter back on the road to head north. And in some ways, like this final series, this is the beauty of it now. They can just draw a line at that and say, Right, it was a shit weekend, but we now start again. This is where it starts again. So, you know, that is probably one sort of benefit to the final series. my next champagne is DJ R. Well, mate, they've battled all weekend. They rebuilt a second car after a massive hit coming out of the dipper on Friday. They overcame a bad pit stop during the during the race for breaks to pick up a win. After some absolutely inspired Brody Kastecki driving, he probably put on two of the or I there's not many more passes I can actually think of during the day, but the two passes he put on Brown and then Bates were just sweet pieces of driving. And if you didn't think there was any massive joy from inheriting a win from the team that was formed from a split from DJR many years ago, you might be kidding yourself. Yeah, for sure. I mean, you know, the way the end of that race played out, it'll always be so easy to say, well There was an element of luck to that in terms of the miscalculation at Team 18 that took the leading car out of the race and and effectively handed the win to Brody Kastecki and Todd Hazelwood. But the reality is that there were you know, that there was a point in that race before that pit stop with the issue with fitting new pads and rotors to the car where they were in control of the race already. Like Todd Hazelwood did an amazing job early on to set things up. Brody knows exactly what to do when he gets in the car. So They were in a really good position to win the race. They obviously had that setback, and that was a setback that could have cost them the race. Absolutely no doubt about that. but it's it was far from a lucky win. It was a hugely deserved win for for those guys. And like I say, the the the way the highlights reel will play out, it might not always look that way, but there is absolutely no doubt they deserve to win that race. Yeah, my final champagne goes to Ben Fry. Now I don't know how he goes with potholes and collecting bins AVL, but motorsport fans should embrace Bathurst new mare. as a absolute fan of motorsport, he knows the importance of that track and already has some ideas on bringing investment into the place and some extra events. Plus he turned up to our live show and is a listener to this show, so we have to give him a shout out, I guess. Yep, no, it's it's always fun to have a proper fan of motorsport in a position like that. And today they put something out about a f the fifth event at Bathurst. Obviously there's only the four events at Bathurst. We need to replace the Bathur and it'll be exciting to see that process and what we could end up with at Mount Panorama. let's go to some shizens because there was a few around the weekend. the first one and I feel desperately sorry for these two, but Anton Di Pascali and Lee Holdsworth. It's been twenty four hours since the race over How does that happen? I I how does the team run empty? Assuming they know they're gonna r bone dry, what were they hoping by trying to stay out? They would have known exactly how much fuel was o in that car as they headed out for the last lap. Yeah, I mean it was a miscalculation. So it wasn't as simple as rolling the dice on strategy or something like that. It was a complete miscalculation. no, definitely. But a g it but again, the numbers they were looking at were wrong in some way. I I don't know. It it's I don't think we'll ever know exactly what happened. we might never know exactly who was at fault. There's obviously different layers in the in the engineering lineup for for a supercars team. you would think these things go through all those layers. So it might be a case of there's not necessarily one particular person that is at fault, but the reality is that it was a miscalculation. It wasn't a well, let's just short fill and see if we can get to the end. They thought they'd done they thought they had enough. They thought there was plenty there because it was only within the last 10 laps they even started talking to Anton about saving fuel. So they didn't get the strategy wrong. They got the calculation wrong. There was a mathematical equation that didn't work out somewhere in their system. So it doesn't, you know, it was a team error. And that I I don't know if that adds to the heartbreak or doesn't as a as you know, compared to if it was just a random mechanical failure or something like that. But yeah, it was a it was a miscalculation and a hugely costly one. Whose weekend would you have rathered? Team eight eans or walk and chores? That is a good question. I I think team eight eans. I think team eight eans. I think there's plenty, given the fact that you want to be there with a chance, I suppose. Totally, a hundred percent. And and I think that if if they if they when they look back on there'll be a lot of good things. And this is something that that Adrian Burger spoke about on on Sunday evening in the paddock. You there's there was be a lot of good things to take out of that. And we know that Camaro was a good package at Bathurst. And they maximized it to the large extent. And even it wasn't like the miscalculation necessarily put them in the lead. It's not like it was such a huge miscalculation that's how they got in the lead. They actually had the margin to put more than enough fuel in the car. So they'd already actually built that into it. So that they were still soup they were still they were super quick. So yeah, actually it's it's not even a it's not even a a a a question at all. You would take team 18's weekend. over Walking Shaws because you know, you want to be in the game and Walkenshaws just just weren't. Yeah. My next shison goes to car thirty eight and specifically our man or my man, Tony Dalberto. Roland Gray was going to need some luck to make the finals. and by Friday it was clear that he was pushing the proverbial up the hill when his car went into the wall at the dipper with T D at the wheel. Now despite the violence of Ryan Wood's crash at the elbow, good judges were telling me in Pitts on on Friday afternoon that number thirty eight was in far worse, Nick. while car seventeen went on to win. The sister car ran twenty second, had a bit of a failure in the rear suspension. It was a genuine shit house weekend for that car. Yeah, it's just the compounding nature of a a a mistake early in the weekend like that and and it really does put put a team on the back foot and you never like I it's same with the Ryan Wood car, you never quite get it right. You're not gonna get it perfect when you're trying to fix the car of the track. And there's absolutely no doubt that it there was more damage to that to the Rolling Gray car because when we left the track on Friday night, Walk and Shore were putting the the Ryan Wood car back together. You know, that that process had started and they certainly weren't at that process at at DJR with the Rolling Gray car. So yeah, tough one for for T D You know, basically exactly what he didn't need after crashing at Bathus last year. so yeah, that that was it was just tough watch. Yeah, it was. It definitely was. my next shison goes to Toyota in general. Now, for all the talk about parity for the Fords and, you know, the chefs were getting bits and bobs, the one mob who clearly looked like they could l use some adjustments in their favour were left high and dry by supercars before the weekend kicked off. Rarely was there a Supra near the top ten in any session. They had zero cars in the shootout. And from talking to people who might know, they were losing around a second going up and just just going up and down the hill to the other cars. And from that point, they basically knew that they weren't in the game. Yeah, it was fairly obvious early in the weekend that it was going to be a tough one for the two Toyota teams. As I said before, you know, that's the one car that that had no adjustments made to it. at any point since the enduro started because the Fords got the engine upgrade for Bathus the Camaro's got the aero change for the bend. And obviously, you know, it's it's it's really tricky to to kind of properly assess where everything is at in terms of the Bathis specific parity now because of the fact there was that, you know, like the fact that the the maximum rear wing angle on the Camaro was flattened during the bend, you know, like Mm-hmm when you've suddenly got two long straights, that's not a bad position to be in because it cuts down drag. So I guess the good news for Toyota and for Ford. I mean, I know obviously we had two Fords in the first two positions, but you know, there there was still certainly an uplift in terms of some of the Camaro teams. So it I think it's fair to say that that still was the absolute outright package to have at Bathurst. But we're not going any more tracks like Bathurst. We're going to the Gold Coast, Sandown and Adelaide. And that's where we're going to determine our champion for the year. And having a slippery car isn't necessarily exactly what you need. You need something that is that is making the right down force in the right places and has the right balance to do well on those street tracks because if you can have a couple of good weekends there, particularly in Adelaide, you can walk away with a pretty big trophy. So as much as it might have been painful for some of the Ford crews, you look at how Tickford were just kind of nowhere and all that sort of stuff. you would still be fairly confident heading into the back end of the season. And I think you can apply that to the Toyota teams as well. Like, you know, Ryan Wood did lock himself into the finals, so both Chaz and Ryan are in contention for for the title. And I I certainly wouldn't use what happened at Bathurst as any indicator that they won't be competitive in that run home. I think they're both definitely title contenders because I think that car is still going to work pretty well on those street circuits. my final shiz and for the long, long weekend that was Are the ducks, AVL? Now Bathis is slowly ticking off every animal to cause a red flag. And this year we can now add ducks to the list when a gaggle of a la orange ours decided to cross the track during practice six on Saturday. And who wasn't begging for those little bastards to come back during the hundred first hundred and fifty laps of yesterday's race? I was s stinging for a couple of ducks to walk across the track. Yeah, that joke was made a few times around the paddock as well during the race. Actually I I wasn't actually watching practice six when that happened. And I just happened to pull my phone out of my pocket and open my website and was quite surprised to see a lead story saying ducks cause crash between two cars. In the in practice, that's not something you usually read in the you usually read as the lead story on the website, but that it's Bathis. That's the kind of it was ducks and moths. Yeah. Jeez, I tell you what they're bad last night, just quietly. It was quite the long weekend. Congratulations to DJR and Brody and Todd Hazelwood. It was a fantastic week. As you said, it wasn't luck. They They deserved that win and they actually worked hard to get back into the win, so congratulations. Let's go to shift cut and we'll start with some Grand Prix before we head back to the Supercars. Four, three, two, one. And on the weekend, if you weren't sure, some of us weren't, was the Singapore Grand Prix. it started with a sprint race. There was a late collision between McLaren teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, which became the biggest talking point, as Max Verstappen survived a delayed, wet, and car-killing singers. sprint race. George Russell crashed out while in the lead. Stroll took out Perez. Hadjar and Colo Pinto had DNS from mechanical failures. And then Piastri ended the race in the barriers after Lando Norris went for a one percent move that punted his teammate. He said, it was a big gap and I went for it. I have the right to do that. He explained that he tried to withdraw from the maneuver as the gap closed but couldn't avoid contact. Andre Stella wasn't elated with the coming together. He said the glass is empty because when two McLaren's make contact in that way and cause material damage, that's a significant flaw. he said he wouldn't be happy with a couple of sorries. He said, I'm not looking for any apologies. They were trying to go back and find out when there was a pass on that corner, and I don't think to this point in time anyone has found one from the entirety of the Singapore Grand Prix history. Yeah, look, it's never a good look. I I I Don't have any great insight on it. We were we did have it on the background, but I was also trying to host a birthday bash for Stefan, as you pointed out before. So overall I don't feel at all tuned into what happened in Singapore because it's just it's horrible timing to have that race on the same weekend as the Bathus one thousand for us. That's just sort of too much racing in almost the right time zone. So I I think that I I did see some comments from Lando about the move, sort of I think he was kind of taking the piss out of a a a T V presenter. sort of trying to drag out, yeah, like this is you know, it's a it's a race. We're meant to race. There was a gap there and I went for it, but ultimately he didn't pull it off. So you can say there's a gap there, but it's got to be big enough for a car and the whole scenario has to play out in a way that you execute the pass without punting your teammate into the wall. So he didn't do that. And given the s given the state of the championships, McLaren Narnie really playing now for the team championship and to have a potential nine points be reduced to one point. Doesn't matter how you cut that up, that's not a good scene. Yeah, and I don't know if they've noticed, but Max Verstappen's going pretty good at the moment. So I reckon he's gonna become a factor in terms of you know, w we we know Kimmy Antonelli's just gonna win this thing in a canter, but if those guys had any ideas about trying to be around that, you know, second in the championship or anything, yeah. You don't want to be doing that because Max is coming pretty hard. in qualifying, Verstappen outpaced Ferraris to snatch pole position and denied Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc a front row lockout. The other Kimmy was fourth from Norris, Russell, and Piastri. Lawson was ninth. And then in the Grand Prix, Max added the Singapore Grand Prix to the list of Grand Prix victories that he's had. He led every race at Marina Bay to claim one of the few wins that had previously eluded him in his illustrious career. He beat Char Leclerc off the line and from there was untroubled as he cruised to the his 73rd victory of his career, crossing the line 7.3 seconds ahead of the Ferrari driver, moving up to fourth in the drivers' championship. Kimmy Antonelli completed the podium for Mercedes after gaining two positions in the final six laps, extending his championship lead over George Russell to 102 points, who only managed ninth after starting nineteenth on the gritty, took some engine changes and stuff. Lando Norris finished fourth ahead of Oscar Piastri, who passed Lewis Hamilton for fifth on the final lap. Liam Lawson improved from eighth on the grid to finish seventh. another good points. Hall ahead of Nico Holkenberg, who produced a strong drive for Audi to follow up his sprint points from Saturday. Russell was eighth. Isaac Hajar completed the points playing positions. Like you said, Max is coming on strong, and Jesus, you probably wouldn't mind it if they brought those two Grand Prix back on the calendar. Yeah, for sure. I mean, I don't think he can actually pose any sort of threat to Kimmy Antonelli this year, but he is really flying. And they've certainly found something with that car and they've found something that he really likes about it. And you would be thinking heading in you know, this is obviously the first year of a new set of regulations. The process becomes more about evolving those regulations, you know, a as you go into each season with that regulation set. And at some point, given the fact that Mercedes seems to just be a little bit on the fence about whether this new upgrade package that came in for the Sipang race is actually working. And I think they split the aero packages between George Russell and Kimi Antonelli for the Singapore race. So they're not entirely convinced with what they're doing, but there's a lot there's something very convincing about what Max Verstappen is doing. So I reckon, you know, he made that commitment to stay in Formula One and to stay with Red Bull Racing with the w when the after there was all that talk about the fact he might just walk away from the whole thing. And right now I reckon he's probably looking at twenty twenty seven and going, Yeah, all right, that was a good call. Yeah. I agree. Back to supercars. We now head into the final series as we discussed. The top ten finals contenders have been confirmed. It's Payne, Feeney, Alan, Kastecki, Waters, Anton, Brown, Chaz, Woody, and LeBrock. So there's two chefs, six Fords and two Toyota Toyotas. Missing out were Andre Heimgartner, Thomas Randall, Juice Jada, Jimmy Golding, and Ryland Gray. Strong top ten, and thank Christ all three makes are represented. But I reckon I could point the top four out to you right now. All right, go for it. Tell me. Well, I think Payne, I think Allen, I think Kastecki, and I think Brown. There you go. Wow. So you think Brown's gonna come home stronger than Brock Feeney? I do. I got a gut feel that there's something not right there. There's a lot of personnel change in that team right now. So yeah. What are you thinking? Give me your top four early. okay. I think Payne, Feeney, Kastecki, and Cam Waters. That's what I'm going with. I'll give that a crack. I I I just I I know there's still so many detractors about finals out there, but I still just love this concept of having this top ten and having because the reality is that there is no way in a traditional points system we roll out of Bathurst with ten drivers in contention to win the title. That's true. It's just there you'd have two you'd have two or three. So I just do enjoy the fact and and I get that you can look at that as a flaw or a feature as well, but I like to look at it as a feature and you think about some of those names there. And then you you like saying, okay, well, so is i like Jazz will be in the mix. Woody will be in the mix. We know how well those guys did on those circuits last year. Yes, it's a new car, but again, I think you can park Bathurst as being any sort of form guide for how the super is gonna gonna work on the street circuit. So, like, it's just it's tasty. I like it. Teammate Eboss Adrian Burgess didn't mince words after the in the aftermath. of a devastating last lap defeat yesterday. There were tears amid scenes of utter devastation in the team. Garros, you guys are in it, which I'm interested to hear your account of what it was like in there, because obviously Anton and co driver Lee Holdsworth spoke bravely on the T V broadcasting the aftermath. I thought that was quite brave of both of them to be honest. Before a number of rivals came out to offer their commiserations, team owner Charlie War Schwerkholt had no words when approached by you guys before entering an extended and somber dialogue with Adrian Burgess. He stressed the team had prepared a fast car, overcome early tire blisterings issues, and his drivers had managed the race to perfection. But one fuel calculation error led them down. He said there's no point glossing over it and then he basically said the team needs to get around his the people in the team and come together. Avial, what was that like? Trying or being in that garage. like you said, I was actually surprised they didn't say, listen, give us some space. Yeah, well, I mean, effectively they did. Stefan and I went through this in some detail on the daily pod on Sunday, if you want to hear Stefan's side of it as well, because we were both down there. But effectively it was just complete devastation. Like there was people literally in tears as we walked in the garage. They closed the garage doors really quick, so there was sort of this really dark atmosphere in there, and we Initially approached Charlie, asked if there was anything he wanted to say on the record. And he, to his absolute credit, tried to find some words and sat there for a second and thought about, you know, what what he could potentially say and just eventually, after five or six minutes, just said, Guys, I just I can't, I don't have any words. I can't do this. And we obviously respected that. After that, we sort of hung around for a while, went and had chats at Lee Holdsworth. He was obviously devastated as well, more so for Anton than for. For himself, which is just a very Lee Holdsworth thing to do because that's the sort of guy that he is. And and we went we eventually were pulled back into the garage for a sort of an all-in media briefing with Adrian Burgess, where he ran through some of the quotes you spoke about there and effectively outlined not exactly what w had happened, but that you know it was that miscalculation that I spoke about before and all that sort of stuff. So it's really tough because it would have been such a big deal. For that team to win that race and to kind of stamp its authority on being the new General Motor tomorrow team and all that sort of stuff. And it would have been great to see Lee Holdsworth win another Bathurst. And it would have been great for Anton to kind of vindicate that move that he made from DJR, the powerhouse, to this kind of smaller team that is growing in a whole number of ways, particularly now that it is the the GMHT. And that would have been a fantastic thing. for for Anton to to achieve as well. So yeah, you really do ultimately it was a it was a there was human error that contributed to this, right? So it wasn't some sort of cruel that was actually one of the funny things. Like Brody Kastecki actually talked in the press conference about, you know, the mountain choosers and all this sort of and it comes up all the time. It comes up all Bathisweet, you know, the mountain choosers who wins and that sort stuff. Like effectively this race was decided twice over by human error. So that's not some Mystical racing gods thing. This is this is people this is like people making mistakes. That's actually what wins or loses you the Bathus 1000. And in this case, DJR got away with one because they went very close to losing that race through a a mistake. And then ultimately it's just a big a bigger mistake came along from another team. So that's something that you know it will really be difficult to reconcile with. But that's that's motor racing. the Bathish Regional Council's taking expression of interest for the fifth event at Mount Panorama that would begin in twenty twenty eight. Early this year, SRO said they will take up the option for twenty twenty-seven as part of a stopgap deal for the Shannon's Speed Series. it's expected SRL will have a crack as SRO should say will have a crack with an expression of interest. But a five-year deal is on the table for any interested parties. Mount Panorama is one of the most valuable pieces of motorsport real estate in the country, and opportunities to activate it at this scale are deliberately limited, said Bathur Mayor Ben Fry. We already have four established events that each bring something different to the mountain. The fifth event needs to be to earn its place alongside them. We're not simply looking for another race meeting. We want an event with its own identity, a strong commercial proposition, a credible promoter, and ability to bring new spectators, visitation, and economic activity to Bathurst. What would that be, AVL? Because I've got nothing. Effectively, this whole fifth event thing is about replacing the Bathurst International. So as you said, there is the sort of stopgap of the Australian GT round there or GT World Challenge Australia round. Nothing against SRO or anything like that. But I mean, we've spoken about it on the pod. It kind of does feel a bit same samey to the Bathurst 12 hour, right? So I think I think there's a few clues in those quotes from the mayor, you know, talking about. Bringing something different. And I'm not sure that a standalone GT World Challenge Australia round is something different. Now, if we think back to when the Bathurst International got the nod for the fifth event, which was back in 2019, I think it was. because it yeah, the 2020 event effectively didn't really happen. So I think that decision was made in 2019. The two leading submissions were Australian Racing Group with the Bathur International concept. And supercars with what was effectively a Goodwood Festival of Speed style event, as opposed to a traditional race meeting. So I tell you what, it might be worth supercars dusting off the dusting off the proposal. They had this video, and I've actually seen the video that that they showed us the video once the once their bid wasn't successful, they showed at some media the video and that sort of stuff. Might be worth dusting that off because that sounds a lot like what Ben Fry's talking about here, to be honest. NASCAR Shane V. Gisbergen continued with his good form to finish seventh in the Voter Fraud 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The race was won by Chase Briscoe. That was his second win in two weeks. Moto GP is hotting right up. Mark Marquez won a dramatic Indonesian Moto GP sprint race after Raul Fernandez. And second on the grid, Marco Besecki went down at turn one. And then in the GP, Bezeki scored his first win since May, leading home in April 1-2-3-4 as third place. Jorge Martin returns back to the lead of the championship standings by two points. In a bad day for Ducati, Mark Marquez was sixth, while his younger brother Alex Marquez was seventh on the Grossini. In Moto 2, after qualifying 14th, Senna Agius finished fourth, just four tenths from a podium. And in Moto three, it was a pretty bad weekend for Joel Kelso. He qualified twenty-third and failed to finish in the race. And that was the end of a very long weekend in Motorsport AVL. We'll come back after a break and we'll do what's The forward headline. Winter could spell bad news for your vehicle's battery. Here are three maintenance tips from the battery gurus at RNJ Batteries. 1. Avoid frequent short trips to keep your battery at a healthy state of charge. 2. Keep the battery terminals clean and corrosion free. 3. Avoid running your accessories with the engine off for too long. If your battery is three years or older, it might be time to get it tested for free. At your local R and J Batteries. R and J Batteries. Power like nothing else. Yeah, welcome back. as we always do. After a supercar meeting we're gonna do what's the foreword headline and there's nothing like preparation, AVL. Well, I could say that the dog ate my homework, but I think the Baths one thousand and the mop up from that and then having to sit in a car for four and something hours to get to Sydney is probably a decent enough excuse for the fact that I have absolutely no forward headlines, but this is your domain anyway, so You can just go for it for me. I'll have little rest. First one's Brody Kastecki. My forward headline is Brody Racin's mid race pit crew character references because I reckon he wouldn't have wouldn't have been so kind after the long pit stop, but after the race I'm pretty sure everything would have been pretty sweet. Yeah, definitely. I think there might have been some pretty tasty stuff over the radio going on when they had that initial mistake, which again is completely understandable when you feel like Totally you've just had the Bathers one thousand ta ta taken off you, but it was quite funny and y you know, Brody actually spoke after the race about how critical Tom Moore, who's who was a stand in engineer, remember, after George Collins had that mountain bike accident and wasn't on the ground at Bathurst and it may not be on the ground for a while, depending on how bad his injuries are. but Brody spoke a lot about how Tom actually kept him calm when he did feel like the race was was falling apart. And then you don't have to give Brody much of a sniff. To get him to refocus and be right back in the game. Because the as you pointed out before, that last few laps there, that's Brody Kastecki at his absolute best. Yep. the next one's Tickford. I just had their forward headliners. Looking forward to this week's Bathurst, were they even there on the weekend? They were literally anonymous. Yeah. as big a complaint around parity. They're just they just weren't there. And like that's you know, you look at you look at the car six, like that's an all-star lineup that should be contending for the Bathus 1000. So it's very hard to sit there and say, well, I think the drivers didn't do a good enough job. They obviously just couldn't get their head around making that car work. And yeah, it was just a just one and that just a that would just be such a frustrating weekend for a team that would have packed their truck thinking We're going to Mount Panorama for a real crack at winning the Bathurst one thousand to just kinda be nowhere. Man, that that that would be tough. the next one is Brock Feeney and Nick Percat, my forward headline. A little bit longer than four words, but former legend betting account takes a flogging because guess who I loaded up on on Saturday night thinking, well, they didn't make the top ten, but I keep thinking I was talking to some people in Ford who kept saying Ford's were going to be a good race car, and I thought, well That'll that'll enable Brock, but geez, they just with sink and brake pedals and no confidence in it, it was just they were nowhere, were they? Bizarre. Just absolutely bizarre. And Brock Feeney spoke a little bit about those braking issues and and things like that, but he even he seemed a bit surprised that they didn't have the race car under him. I spoke to Nick Perkett after one of the practice I think it was the first co driver practice session and he was like twenty second or something and he literally just hopped out of the car and I like, What happened there, mate? And he was like, Nothing. He's like, it's all good. Just, you know, we don't need to be pushing right now. We you you we're working on the race car and getting comfortable. And he was he seemed totally fine. So I I imagine that he also would have been a bit surprised to roll out on Sunday and not have what even closely resembled a competitive race car. And then, you know, obviously making it worse is the fact that there's Will Brown and Scott Pye on the podium with second place and winning the winning the Enduro Cup, which banked Will Brown twenty five extra points heading into finals. So Yeah, bizarre. It'll be you know, again, I'm I'm I I s have plenty confidence that Brock can bounce back heading into finals. I bet he's gonna w you know, want some redemption in finals this year after what happened last year. But absolutely well Brock Brock used the term like that they were scratching their heads and I think there'll be a fair bit of head scratching going on as they kind of debrief and try and work out why they were just so slow. Our next one's Matt Stone Racing. My forward headline is Bathis is a pinch of piss, mate. As a team, they are literally men of the match. it's easy. It's simple. Yeah, no, they did a fantastic and and you know, we can talk about the and this was what we were saying during the weekend as well when we were talking about Zach Bates and qualifying on provisional pole and then topping the shootout to take the official pole position for the race. It doesn't matter if there is an advantage to the Camaro. There's not one Camaro in the field, like Zach did a fantastic job to be the fastest Camaro over a lap or Camaro driver over a lap. And MSR did a fantastic job of of executing the race with two cars to finish that far up the front. So, you know, the whole weekend, if you look at everything they achieved, pole position for the Pathus 1000, led the first stint, third and fourth with the with the two cars and Jack LeBrock qualified for finals. And we're right in it, Aviol, with an hour to go. They were right in it. Well, you've got to remember that there's a whole alternate universe where there's no late safety car. Anton runs out of fuel and Zach Bates and Aaron Seaton win that race. Because I don't think Brody would have got to them without the safety car. So they and that's the funny, and that's always the funny thing about Bathurst. And, you know, I'm pretty sure everyone at MSR would have taken that result. If it was offered to him before the weekend. But when you're sitting there i it it on on the Sunday evening and contemplating that you're in a position to win the race, even an amazing weekend like that is still gonna it's gonna sting a little bit. And and that's really how how those guys were feeling at at the end of the day. Grove racing. My forward headline there was a story that came out today that Brent and Grove said they had easily the fastest cars on the grid. My forward headline is fastest cars finish fifth and twentieth. Yeah, really, really odd race for those guys. You just, you know, the expectations would have been sky high given the season they've had so far. They certainly weren't in the kind of anonymous place of your Tickfords and Walkenshaws, but definitely not the standard that we've seen from Grove Racing this year. So mistakes from Matt Payne. They had brake issues, they had brake ducting issues, which led to brake pad issues and and all those sorts of things. So a tough weekend for what has been the informed team across the season. Zach Bates, my forward headline is expect knocks at the door pretty soon. Mate, surely, with the the level, the ceiling that this kid's got, he's twenty two. He's already had a now a a pole at Bathurst and never put a foot wrong all day. He'd have to be on the shopping list of some teams. Given that I think you guys talked about on the on the news pod that he's bringing sponsors to get that deal done at the moment. Yeah, I mean he's as we sit here right now, he's at actually no certainty to be on the grid next year, although I think he is a certainty to be on the grid next year. He ha he does have a two year a deal with that team, but it does require bringing funding. And the question mark has been whether him and his family are in a position to bring that funding again a second time around. But I think the conversation will change pretty quickly because obviously, you know, MSR have to look at this kid and go, right, this he really does have a lot of potential and we need to we don't really want him going elsewhere. So how do we make this whole situation work? And then again, you put yourself in the shop window for more backing and that sort of stuff. So You know, I think it's a great opportunity now for the commercial team at MSR to kind of they can look at this and and and kind of go, All right, well, let's go out and sell what this kid's done and let's keep him the team that way, rather than a more traditional kind of pay driver structure. So, because the reality is that he's too good to be a pay driver at all. And we we've seen bits and pieces of it. It doesn't come as a massive surprise to me. That he was able to perform like that, if I'm honest. Probably the timeline with which it it's happened was surprising. But I I know I said it before. I'm just thrilled for him because he's actually a a really lovely kid, Zach. And he does drive the car so well. And you just need these little moments that you can really showcase what you can do. And when you're at a team like MSR that isn't a regular, like a sorry, isn't a completely consistent front runner. You've got to grab your opportunities with both hands when they come along to showcase what you can do. And that's exactly what he did. And it it honestly, this could be a weekend we look back on in years' time when he's winning races and running at the front with whatever team it happens to be, that you say that was a real crossroads in his career and what he did on that weekend, saved and then made his career. what about Bailey Hall? I've got a forward headline of Wrong sponsor to be making a splash because another person who was anonymous but made the top ten and did a bloody stellar job. yeah, I I think they did a good job. They'd be pretty happy with that for that for the super cheap car there. I think you'd take they would have taken a top ten at the start of the day. They sort of I they the top team at anchor, ultimately, after what happened at the end there. So I think they would be they would be pretty happy. And finally, out of supercars into Formula One, Max Verstappen, my forward headline is Really enjoying these hybrid F one cars. I reckon he is now. I think I think he's all he's all turned around on the subject, I would say. Started to get the hang of really like All right, let's go to a break because there is a little bit to go under the bridge yet and including credit or shredded. Credit to the Noise Yeah, welcome back to Rear of Grid. I don't know about you. I popped into the Discord as part of the full credit of the noise membership and holy doly, like a hundred and sixty messages and or not messages, but you know, posts and then an hour later, a hundred and twenty posts. It's like a lot of people are in there having a good time if they aren't at the track. Yeah, this was one of the weekends where it got harder and harder to keep up with the Discord. unfortunately so but I was checking in every evening and seeing that everyone was having a great chat about it and and a lot of people from the Discord were at the live show and I think they they will be passing on some pretty good feedback about the show and you just if you really want to make sure you are in the crowd next time we do one of these things, it's a good place to start, is the Discord, because you will get early access. That's also something that came up. sorry to go back to the live show. If you weren't in it, I know what it's like to hear about this and you're thinking, whatever. But a lot of people were saying, you know, maybe we should get you guys should look at a a bigger venue. But I actually think a hundred is the right number for the for the for the audience. We had twenty tw a table of twenty s different sponsors and and the like. But so we had a hundred and twenty people in the room. And yeah, we could have probably sold that out twice in the end as as hindsight would prove to you. But I still think that was the right number. What do you reckon? any place where the green room is also the booze storage room is gonna get my ticket of approval. That was unreal. what a great play that Casa is. The venue was absolutely awesome. And I totally agree with you. Like that was just the perfect size crowd to sort of have the right atmosphere. It was it was great. Yeah. so yeah, if you did like Avial said, probably this time next year especially, if you want access or early access to the tickets and don't forget we didn't have to go public on this it was all sold in the in the Discord membership. it was all sold out. So if you do want that, you probably need to join FCTTN. one of our listeners has got a casual five grand check given to them as well, as part of a giveaway. So it's not just that. There was there was there's a bunch of vouchers that have been given out in the last sort of week. Five hundred dollar vouchers and yeah, a five thousand dollar To well, I think that you said that now secures you were driving an AU. I don't know how that actually works, but well done on that. Yep, I think John's got the money to put that car back together so I can go and take it for a finger and Queensland Raceway. That's the discussion that we had on on Wednesday night anyway. That's how I remember it. All right, let's do a credit or shredded. I'm gonna make a statement. You just say I agree or disagree with a credit or a shreddit. We'll come back after we've done all six. Number one. The team eighteen fuel crisis saved a pretty boring addition of the Bathus one thousand. Credit. Rock solid credit. Number two, Cam Waters will be at Penwright Grove Racing in twenty twenty eight. Like Shredd. Shredded because I heard another name. George Russell will now forever be a number two driver at Mercedes. I'll say credit. I'll say credit too, yeah. number four. It's not a real Bathus one thousand without an FA eighteen F Super Hornet flyover. Ooh. I will say Shredd for reasons that I will explain. Okay, I'll say credit because I missed it. Number five, if you Google smug turd, a photo of Lando Norris is the first thing that comes up. credit. Credit. Number six. The next full credit to the noise live show will need to be an 11 out of 10 to top Wednesday nights. I think it needs to be a hundred out of ten, to be honest. I'll go credit. Yes, credit. All right, Team 18 fuel crisis saved a pretty boring addition. If you went through our Discord, that was the overriding message before the last 15 laps. Yeah, it's an interesting one. It's actually been a bit of a topic of debate even among the Speakafe team about whether it up until that point was it a good race or not, because there was some strategic intrigue to it. Obviously all that green flag running made it a proper enduro sort of it had that proper enduro feel about it, but I it's it did seem to just lack a little bit of action to that point. And I think also effectively there were two different points where It was almost a foregone conclusion as to who was going to win the race. So, you know, and obviously before the the break issue for for Brody and then the fuel issue for Anton. So I do think I still have some concerns about the Gen three product at Bathurst. Because if it wasn't for the rain last year and what happened at the end of this race this year, I don't know. I th we could be what, twenty three, twenty four, twenty five, twenty four. We we could have had four pretty tame Bathurst one thousands. So but we've had two but to to be honest, we've probably had two of the best finishes in Bathurst one thousand history out of it. So, you know, I get I'm probably being way too pessimistic there because that's what we actually got. So anyway, we'll see what next year brings. And let's be honest, like if you look at the AFL grand final, without that last ten minutes of that, probably we'd just be talking about a Ho Hum grand final. So there are that's the way sport sometimes rolls. The the crescendo is what makes it. So Cam Waters will be at pen right. I I can't say credit, because A, I don't know. And B, I think there's a lot to play out on the driver market between now and then. So I'm certainly not saying it's an impossibility. I'm trying to think when Cam's current contract actually ends, whether it's end of twenty seven or or twenty eight. But I think it it's gonna be, you know, this is it it's gonna be a pretty exciting, silly season next year, I reckon, leading into twenty eight. Yeah, we'll leave it at that for the time. But George Russell will now forever be a number two. I mean, George Bottas has a quite a ring to it. Yeah, no, it's just I mean, who knows? He might bounce back from this and win Baldwin World Championships, but I just you know, he has like it mu must be so frustrating. And I know I've said this before, but you know, he kind of comes into Mercedes just as they go off the boil in terms of competitiveness and he's quicker than Lewis and it's all looking great, and he just needs his one chance with a title winning car. And he's just been flogged. Doesn't that make that statement? But If I had have been at that team when Lewis was winning championships, he wouldn't have had as many championships. That kind of looks a little bit silly right now, doesn't it? I think so. I think it looks silly when it was said the first time, but yeah, definitely. Good call. without an FA eighteen flyover, it's not a real Bathers one thousand. You said shred it? Yeah, 'cause I I I actually just and this is like the biggest first world motorsport journalist problem in the world, but I do get sick of the jets because they haven't. my god, that'll do me okay, mate. I don't know. Sorry, that as the words were coming out of my mouth, I like, Why am I saying this? But so I could live with it. So I couldn't live without it. but it was a it was quite a topic of conversation because yeah, it was a notable absence of the of the jet at at the end of the national anthem. I believe they The the RAAF pulled out reasonably late so there wasn't sort of a great opportunity for for to do something else or whatever. I mean the pre race was looked fantastic in terms of everything else. But that that was something that people did bring up that there was no jet at the start. But personally I I can live without it. If you're not having F Airdines or planes banging the wall up Mountain Strait, it's not really about it. Smug turd and Lando. We know that's true. the live show thing. We know that's true because that's gonna be hard to top. Let me talk about Whisper of the Week. I know whether you heard this. What was last year's most viral vision from Supercars ABL that went around the world, not just here but around the world? Was it that plane hitting the wall? Was it the Gold Coast Beach Chicane? yeah. yeah. Yeah, definitely. I've heard there'll be an attempt to curtail the jumping at the Gold Coast Beach Chicane in a couple of weeks' time and you can blame the FIA. There you go. Guess we'll see. from a decent source too. fan letter of the week comes from Warty Five in the Discord. He says, Question for the pod, guys, with Tickford experiencing another disappointing Bathurst and Randall missing the finals. What changes do you think the team need to make to be more competitive and most importantly, consistent? Yeah, I mean consistency has been Tickford's issue since forever. For long time. Yeah. Yeah. So I look I don't I I don't run a race team. I don't know exactly what kind of exact things need to change. It's also a team that's capable of pretty amazing things. And as I've said before, like I I would definitely have Cam Waters among those drivers that can make the make the grand final in Adelaide. So it was just a there were some of these just anomalies in performance in Bathur over the weekend for whatever reason. And As you know, I'll say it for a third or fourth time now, I don't think it's necessarily a form guide heading into the back end of the season 'cause the circuits are so completely different. I think the Mustang is gonna be the car to beat for the street circuits, which is very important. So, you know, we may not be talking about Tickford's lack of performance if Cam Waters is left holding a big trophy at the end of the Adelaide Grand Final. Yeah. If if I if you had an unlimited checkbook, and not many of them do at the moment, but maybe just go and knock on the doors of some people in other teams and see whether they'd be interested in coming and promoting being a giving a promotion and and and sort of give the whole joint a set of fresh eyes. I don't know. But that's like you said, I'm not there to day in, day out to be able to tell you how to suck eggs, but it just seems like to me there's a bunch of very, very skillful people in this sport and they seem to only blow around the top two or three teams. And I would be trying to crack that code if I could. Mate, that will about do us this ep episode of Full Credit of the Noise. I'd never been happier to say something the back end of this podcast. you can find the show on all the socials at FCTN podcast. You can read ABL's excellent work at speedcafe dot com where they don't stop breaking all the big news first in motorsport. Until next time, I've been Formal Legend, he's been Air VL.
