- 1:26Speaker 8: Caleb Rapley here filling in for Chip the final week
- 1:30Speaker 8: of guest hosts here on Sports Talk alongside me, making
- 1:34Speaker 8: his co host debut after making his show debut last week,
- 1:38Speaker 8: we have mister Andrew Rapsilver.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Andrew, thank you for being here today. I appreciate it.
- 1:42Speaker 9: I appreciate it.
- 1:42Speaker 10: I guess it's good news that after the first interview
- 1:45Speaker 10: it didn't turn out to be my last invited me back,
- 1:48Speaker 10: so I guess, yeah, that's an okay sign for sure.
- 1:51Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 1:53Speaker 8: Andrew is the play by play man for the Bombers.
- 1:55Speaker 8: Those of you who are loyal Zone listeners probably already
- 1:58Speaker 8: knew that. You know, it's a little bit of an
- 2:01Speaker 8: unfortunate result. Last night ended up up losing Game one
- 2:06Speaker 8: of the semi final series to the Victoria Generals. We'll
- 2:08Speaker 8: get into that a little later in the show. We've
- 2:11Speaker 8: got a lot to talk about today. I think this is,
- 2:14Speaker 8: you know, kind of that last week, the last week
- 2:16Speaker 8: of June is always kind of the last full week
- 2:18Speaker 8: of the off season before we really start getting into
- 2:21Speaker 8: the full preseason mode for football. MLB trade deadline is
- 2:26Speaker 8: on Monday. NBA off season has had a lot of moves,
- 2:29Speaker 8: so we've got lots to talk about. And we're even
- 2:32Speaker 8: going to talk everybody's favorite motorsport, NASCAR a little later
- 2:36Speaker 8: in this hour, because you know, when I host, I
- 2:40Speaker 8: talk about what I want to talk about. That's how
- 2:41Speaker 8: it works when you get to guest hosts. So we're
- 2:43Speaker 8: going to talk NASCAR, even though I might be the
- 2:45Speaker 8: only person in this town that cares about it.
- 2:47Speaker 9: Well, you'll have two today, Yeah, that'll work.
- 2:51Speaker 4: So we'll start off with some headlines.
- 2:54Speaker 8: And I'm sure that a lot of people have heard
- 2:56Speaker 8: about this already, but I'm very excited about it. Tech
- 3:00Speaker 8: am announcing that the Red, White, and Blue Game will
- 3:03Speaker 8: return in honor of America's two hundred and fiftieth anniversary
- 3:08Speaker 8: September twelfth. When the Aggies take on Arizona State in
- 3:11Speaker 8: Week two, Kyle Field will be decked out in the
- 3:15Speaker 8: American colors. Also the twenty fifth anniversary of September eleventh tragedies,
- 3:23Speaker 8: which was the first Red White.
- 3:24Speaker 4: And Blue Game.
- 3:25Speaker 8: I think it was a couple of weeks after September
- 3:27Speaker 8: eleventh that Texas A and M did that, and then
- 3:30Speaker 8: in twenty twenty one they did it as well for
- 3:32Speaker 8: the twentieth anniversary. So excited for that. I've never got
- 3:36Speaker 8: I haven't didn't get to go to the one in
- 3:38Speaker 8: twenty twenty one when they red white and blued it.
- 3:41Speaker 4: So excited to be a part of the student section
- 3:43Speaker 4: for that.
- 3:44Speaker 6: One.
- 3:45Speaker 8: Definitely recommend making your way to Kyle Field at some
- 3:48Speaker 8: point this season, Andrew, you have any plans to go
- 3:49Speaker 8: to any games.
- 3:51Speaker 9: If it can be on the raidar, that'd be awesome.
- 3:53Speaker 10: I think the Red, White and Blue game is certainly
- 3:56Speaker 10: it's a unique spectacle.
- 3:58Speaker 9: You know, everyone talks.
- 3:59Speaker 10: About the main SEC games on the slate and on
- 4:03Speaker 10: the schedule, and to be a part of those environments
- 4:05Speaker 10: is certainly one thing. But such the special tradition that
- 4:09Speaker 10: the the Red White and Blue game is and just
- 4:11Speaker 10: to be a part of that, and there's a certain
- 4:14Speaker 10: gravitas and specialness that that holds that's purely separated from
- 4:19Speaker 10: the energy if say at Texas game or or LSU
- 4:23Speaker 10: or Bama's coming to town, and I think that one
- 4:25Speaker 10: that one to me, if you could get there to
- 4:29Speaker 10: to see the Red, White and Blue game, I think
- 4:30Speaker 10: that that holds a unique, it's touching, and it's it's
- 4:34Speaker 10: also powerful. I think it's going to be very very
- 4:37Speaker 10: cool to see that again. Yeah, absolutely, And I like that.
- 4:41Speaker 8: You know, normally when we do these themed games, they're
- 4:43Speaker 8: against you know, a top tier opponent or at least
- 4:47Speaker 8: a night game, like last year when we did the blackout.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Against Mississippi State. It wasn't Mississippi State was that good.
- 4:52Speaker 8: It was that that was one of our only home
- 4:53Speaker 8: games at night, which was unfortunate. But normally when we
- 4:56Speaker 8: do those big you know, like throwback the throwback game
- 5:00Speaker 8: last season against Florida, back when we thought Florida was good.
- 5:03Speaker 8: That did end up turning out very well. But we
- 5:06Speaker 8: do these theme nights on games that we think are
- 5:08Speaker 8: going to be big games. But this is more about
- 5:10Speaker 8: the theme than the game. So I like that. You know,
- 5:13Speaker 8: Arizona State's no slouch. Don't get me wrong, right, it's not.
- 5:15Speaker 8: It's not the game. It's not a game where everybody's
- 5:17Speaker 8: going to be very excited and on edge for who
- 5:22Speaker 8: the opponent is, so it can be more about what
- 5:26Speaker 8: we're trying to the message we're trying to send here.
- 5:28Speaker 4: So I do appreciate that.
- 5:30Speaker 10: No, I absolutely agree with that, and I think that
- 5:32Speaker 10: some of that's sort of a by design because how
- 5:35Speaker 10: much more can you already hype up some of the
- 5:38Speaker 10: big SEC games already? You know, if you throw the Red, White,
- 5:42Speaker 10: and Blue game on top of that, well, there's already
- 5:45Speaker 10: already a ton of energy there. Well why not put
- 5:47Speaker 10: it in one of the early non conference games and
- 5:49Speaker 10: then there you go. Now every game has.
- 5:52Speaker 9: Has its specialness absolutely.
- 5:54Speaker 8: Texas A and M men's basketball has finally released their
- 5:57Speaker 8: full schedule for the twenty twenty six twenty twenty seven season.
- 6:02Speaker 8: We already had the non conference last week and then
- 6:04Speaker 8: I think it was earlier today that they released the
- 6:07Speaker 8: full SEC schedule. So some big home games. The first
- 6:11Speaker 8: SEC game of the season will be January second Atried
- 6:15Speaker 8: Arena here in College Station against the Auburn Tigers. Then
- 6:19Speaker 8: back to back road games Missouri South Carolina. But the
- 6:23Speaker 8: main the two main games after that SEC opener February
- 6:28Speaker 8: sixteenth or seventeenth. It's a flex game, but it will
- 6:32Speaker 8: be on the road in Austin against the Texas Longhorns.
- 6:36Speaker 8: And then the final regular season game of the season
- 6:39Speaker 8: four the Aggies will be at home in Ried Arena,
- 6:42Speaker 8: against Texas, So I do like that, you know, we're
- 6:45Speaker 8: kind of bringing a similar to college football, like a
- 6:49Speaker 8: rivalry week aspects to this schedule. Getting to in the
- 6:54Speaker 8: SEC season against Texas can either be, you know, it
- 6:57Speaker 8: could be good or bad. It could end up being
- 6:59Speaker 8: a lot of positive momentum from beating your most hated rival,
- 7:02Speaker 8: or it could be you know, going into the postseason
- 7:07Speaker 8: hungary after a loss. So I think either way it's
- 7:10Speaker 8: it's gonna help help the team to go into the
- 7:15Speaker 8: SEC tournament strong. But I'm really excited for AGIY basketball
- 7:17Speaker 8: this year.
- 7:18Speaker 10: I think the you talk about the rivalry week aspect
- 7:21Speaker 10: to it, it does carry that extra strength, like right
- 7:26Speaker 10: before you go into SEC tournament week, so it gives
- 7:30Speaker 10: those last few games trying to finalize where you're going
- 7:34Speaker 10: to be going into the tournament, it does give that
- 7:37Speaker 10: that extra notion to it. I think the SEC Tournament
- 7:40Speaker 10: in the SEC season in general, we've seen it not
- 7:43Speaker 10: only in basketball but with NCAA baseball of course this year.
- 7:47Speaker 10: But people sometimes forget, not all the time, but SEC
- 7:52Speaker 10: is not just football. They're dominant in throughout the other
- 7:56Speaker 10: sports as well, throughout the winner and spring, and I
- 7:58Speaker 10: do anticipate the SEC STONE to be a very competitive
- 8:02Speaker 10: basketball conference as well.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure.
- 8:04Speaker 8: I mean the national Championship, the national champions from a
- 8:08Speaker 8: couple of years ago. Florida Gators, Alabama LSU are always
- 8:13Speaker 8: really solid teams, and we do get Florida on the
- 8:15Speaker 8: road unfortunately, so that's gonna be a really tough matchup.
- 8:19Speaker 4: I'm excited for.
- 8:21Speaker 8: You know, this week, we're gonna get a little bit
- 8:23Speaker 8: of a taste of this Aggie basketball team. Monday through Wednesday,
- 8:29Speaker 8: they will be in the Bahamas for the Baja mar
- 8:33Speaker 8: Hoops Summer League that will be playing three games, two
- 8:38Speaker 8: universities from Canada and then a professional team from Columbia,
- 8:42Speaker 8: University of Victoria, Carlton University, and then Toros del Val.
- 8:46Speaker 8: So that should be really interesting. We haven't seen I
- 8:50Speaker 8: don't think Buzz Williams ever had his had the Aggies
- 8:54Speaker 8: go out and do something like this during his tenure.
- 8:56Speaker 8: But year two of Bucky, he's made it very clear
- 9:00Speaker 8: that he's going to do things his way and I'm
- 9:03Speaker 8: excited that we get to see, you know, kind of
- 9:04Speaker 8: a preview of this team months before the season starts.
- 9:07Speaker 10: I think that's a really exciting piece to it because
- 9:11Speaker 10: you sort of I mean, I know, I understand the situations.
- 9:14Speaker 9: I know, like you mentioned the new.
- 9:16Speaker 10: Teams from Canada or wherever they're gonna be, whoever it's
- 9:19Speaker 10: gonna be playing against them, It's it's not gonna be
- 9:21Speaker 10: a be all end all of what things are gonna
- 9:23Speaker 10: look like. It's not gonna be the same speed and pace.
- 9:26Speaker 10: But just to get some of these guys on the
- 9:28Speaker 10: same court and see some of the new additions or
- 9:31Speaker 10: after some of the departures, what things are going to
- 9:33Speaker 10: look like. Who's going to be sort of running the show?
- 9:36Speaker 10: How does it sort of mesh in those couple of
- 9:38Speaker 10: games and just give you and for mental sake, sort
- 9:43Speaker 10: of the fix you need. Because we still got a
- 9:45Speaker 10: few months until college basketball really gets going, and you
- 9:48Speaker 10: have the non conference games in November December, then things
- 9:51Speaker 10: really start to heat up after the new year.
- 9:53Speaker 8: Right excited to see Mackenzie Imbaco finally hopefully fully healthy
- 9:59Speaker 8: in Aggie uniform. That didn't really get to see that
- 10:01Speaker 8: this past season, only played seven games before he ended
- 10:06Speaker 8: up having that season ending injury. So excited to see
- 10:09Speaker 8: him play at full strength. PJ Haggerty, how much is
- 10:13Speaker 8: he going to be I'll be interested to see how
- 10:15Speaker 8: much Haggardy is the point guard and like the main
- 10:18Speaker 8: ball handler, or if they end up using him as
- 10:21Speaker 8: more of a wing one of those you know, sit
- 10:24Speaker 8: in the corner and shoot kind of guys. So there's
- 10:25Speaker 8: a lot of different options. Really excited to see Bucky
- 10:28Speaker 8: ball this year, but still a couple months before we
- 10:30Speaker 8: get into the swing of things. Some recruiting news. Running
- 10:35Speaker 8: back prospect in the twenty twenty seven class, Landon Williams Callus,
- 10:40Speaker 8: will announce his commitment on Saturday. So this is a
- 10:43Speaker 8: running back that's had a lot of hype over the
- 10:45Speaker 8: last few months. He's rushed for over seven thousand yards
- 10:48Speaker 8: and one hundred and thirty three touchdowns in his three
- 10:50Speaker 8: high school seasons. The teams he will be choosing between
- 10:54Speaker 8: on Saturday are Houston, Missouri, SMU, Texas and Texas A
- 10:59Speaker 8: and m uh. This would be a really big, really
- 11:02Speaker 8: big get for the Aggies that they can pull it off.
- 11:05Speaker 8: I think he is projected to go to the Longhorns
- 11:07Speaker 8: is everything that I've seen. But you know, if you've
- 11:11Speaker 8: been paying attention to recruiting on social media, there has
- 11:14Speaker 8: been a lot of current AGGI players and recruits, you know,
- 11:18Speaker 8: tagging him in posts, and I've just I love that
- 11:23Speaker 8: our recruits that we have signed are now doing our
- 11:25Speaker 8: recruiting for us.
- 11:26Speaker 4: That's always a really good sign of the culture.
- 11:28Speaker 11: Isn't that.
- 11:28Speaker 10: Isn't that something where you start to get close to
- 11:31Speaker 10: that decision and then you start looking at the social
- 11:34Speaker 10: media game of who's following who, who's unfollowed who, who's
- 11:38Speaker 10: tagging who in posts? And then it just sends you
- 11:40Speaker 10: sends you in a whirlwind sort of in that last
- 11:43Speaker 10: week to think what does this mean? You start to
- 11:45Speaker 10: analyze every every move that way. I graduated through the
- 11:48Speaker 10: University of Houston school. So if he took a veer
- 11:51Speaker 10: veering path and turned down I ten and decided, last minute,
- 11:55Speaker 10: let's let's go be let's go be a cougar, I
- 11:57Speaker 10: wouldn't hate it. But it's certainly I do think some
- 12:01Speaker 10: of like you know, the recruiting going on from you know,
- 12:04Speaker 10: some of the players as well. I think some of
- 12:07Speaker 10: that does make an impact, more sure, more than more
- 12:10Speaker 10: than you could imagine. So it's it's gonna be it's
- 12:12Speaker 10: gonna be interesting. These uh, these decisions always sometimes can
- 12:15Speaker 10: come down to something you said just like that, or
- 12:19Speaker 10: simply enough. Sometimes even the night before where you're like
- 12:23Speaker 10: you're gonna have that decision and it's just wrestling with
- 12:25Speaker 10: you and then you wake. Sometimes it comes really down
- 12:27Speaker 10: to that last minute. So it'll be exciting to see.
- 12:30Speaker 8: Yeah, I remember when I was a kid, I really
- 12:32Speaker 8: loved reading the the Tim Tebow book where he wrote about,
- 12:35Speaker 8: you know, pretty much his whole childhood and his college
- 12:37Speaker 8: years and when he was his writing about his recruiting
- 12:41Speaker 8: decision between Florida and Alabama was just very interesting from
- 12:46Speaker 8: his point of view. But again, that will be this Saturday,
- 12:49Speaker 8: August first, that Williams Callous announces his recruitment. Let's see
- 12:54Speaker 8: if Michael CoA can bring bring in another big one.
- 12:57Speaker 8: Uh MLB news Unfortunately, acquired infielder Curtis Mead of the
- 13:02Speaker 8: Boston Red Sox will be heading to the ten day
- 13:05Speaker 8: injured list with a broken wrist. The Red Sox traded
- 13:10Speaker 8: a left handed starter, Connelly early to Washington just three
- 13:14Speaker 8: days ago, and that's a that's a pitcher that has
- 13:17Speaker 8: a lot of major league control left. And they got
- 13:20Speaker 8: Curtis Mead and helped in hopes of improving their infield
- 13:22Speaker 8: offense and immediately gets hit in the wrist by a
- 13:26Speaker 8: pitch and we'll be out for a few weeks, maybe
- 13:30Speaker 8: a month, depends on the severity of an injury. But
- 13:32Speaker 8: this that's just a tough break for the Red Sox.
- 13:35Speaker 8: One more MLB note before we get to our first break.
- 13:38Speaker 8: Brayden Shoemak, former Texas A and M baseball player, former
- 13:41Speaker 8: Houston Astro and you know, many other teams as well.
- 13:46Speaker 8: He has elected free agency after being dfade and sent
- 13:50Speaker 8: to the Miners by the Brewers. So back on the market,
- 13:56Speaker 8: and I would love for the Astros to, you know,
- 13:58Speaker 8: give them a minor league deal, bring them back, bring
- 14:00Speaker 8: him back home.
- 14:00Speaker 10: What does it hurt? What is it hurts? That's my
- 14:03Speaker 10: opinion on that. What's just it doesn't hurt anything.
- 14:05Speaker 4: To give it a try.
- 14:07Speaker 8: When it's a guy like this, that's you know, a
- 14:08Speaker 8: hometown kid, it's gonna be a good story regardless of
- 14:12Speaker 8: how he performs. And he was I mean, he wasn't amazing.
- 14:16Speaker 8: He wasn't a great hitter for the Astros, and I
- 14:18Speaker 8: think it was about thirty games that he's played for
- 14:20Speaker 8: us this season. But he's a very solid defender. He's
- 14:23Speaker 8: very versatile, and he's never really gotten a bunch of
- 14:26Speaker 8: run at the major league level, So I would love
- 14:28Speaker 8: for them to bring him back, stick him in Triple A.
- 14:31Speaker 8: Maybe maybe he'll find something. But he was out of options,
- 14:34Speaker 8: which means that he had to go through waivers before
- 14:36Speaker 8: he could be sent to the Miners, cleared waivers, nobody
- 14:39Speaker 8: wanted him, and then he elected free agency.
- 14:42Speaker 4: So no longer a Milwaukee Brewer.
- 14:43Speaker 8: I think that's like his fifth major league organization and
- 14:46Speaker 8: probably like his fourth of this season the Yankees or
- 14:50Speaker 8: third of this season.
- 14:51Speaker 4: The Yankees had.
- 14:52Speaker 8: Him in February and then we traded for him the
- 14:55Speaker 8: Astros did, and then we traded him to the Brewers
- 14:58Speaker 8: for cash, and now he's back on the market. So
- 15:01Speaker 8: good luck, Braden Shoemaker. We hope you come back home
- 15:03Speaker 8: to Houston. And with that, we were going to take
- 15:06Speaker 8: our first break of the show. When we come back,
- 15:08Speaker 8: we're going to dive in to the Hall of Fame
- 15:12Speaker 8: inductees in Major League Baseball. This is Chip Howard Sports

- 15:53Speaker 13: getting into a conversation and people being able to change
- 15:55Speaker 13: my mind with facts and like analytics and things that
- 15:58Speaker 13: can really at tangible.
- 16:00Speaker 9: I just don't like when people tell me I've.
- 16:02Speaker 4: Been a fan for thirty years so my opinion matters more.
- 16:05Speaker 9: No, it doesn't. It doesn't mean anything to me.
- 16:07Speaker 4: I mean, have you been a fan for forty five years?
- 16:09Speaker 4: What's that?
- 16:09Speaker 14: In?

- 17:04Speaker 8: of you who don't know how the Hall of Fame
- 17:07Speaker 8: voting works, there are I'm not exactly sure how many
- 17:12Speaker 8: writers' ballots, four.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Hundred and twenty five. Okay, never mind, I just found it,
- 17:15Speaker 4: four hundred and twenty five.
- 17:17Speaker 8: Baseball writers get a vote and a player has to
- 17:21Speaker 8: obtain at least seventy five percent.
- 17:23Speaker 4: Of the vote.
- 17:25Speaker 8: So player has to be on at least seventy five
- 17:27Speaker 8: percent of voters ballots to make the Hall of Fame.
- 17:30Speaker 8: Each voter, I believe, gets ten players that they can
- 17:33Speaker 8: put on the ballot, but they don't have to name ten.
- 17:35Speaker 8: They can just do two if they want to. So
- 17:37Speaker 8: it's not a it's not like hall. It's not like
- 17:40Speaker 8: All Star voting where you have to have a certain
- 17:42Speaker 8: number every year. It could feasibly be that there are
- 17:45Speaker 8: no inductees in a year, but this year we had three.
- 17:49Speaker 8: Two through the normal system. Carlos Beltran got eighty four
- 17:54Speaker 8: point two percent of the vote. This was his fourth
- 17:57Speaker 8: year on the ballot, and in his ninth year on
- 17:59Speaker 8: the ballot, Andrew Jones obtained seventy eight point four percent
- 18:03Speaker 8: of the vote.
- 18:04Speaker 4: I'm naming the years that they have been on the.
- 18:05Speaker 8: Ballot because if you're on the ballot for ten years
- 18:10Speaker 8: and you don't get elected, you drop off the ballot.
- 18:13Speaker 8: There was one name that was in his tenth year
- 18:17Speaker 8: only got thirty eight point eight percent of the vote,
- 18:19Speaker 8: Manny Ramirez. And we can get into why we think
- 18:22Speaker 8: that may have not been the right decision, but real quick.
- 18:28Speaker 8: The third and final inductee this season, which was added
- 18:33Speaker 8: in by a committee, the Contemporary Baseball Era Committee Jeff Kent,
- 18:39Speaker 8: father of former Texas A and M infielder Caden Kent
- 18:42Speaker 8: and also a former Houston Astro MVP with the Los
- 18:46Speaker 8: Angeles Dodgers.
- 18:47Speaker 4: I believe was who's playing forty one? That or no,
- 18:49Speaker 4: that was the Giants.
- 18:51Speaker 8: Sorry, it's confusing when guys play for the same team
- 18:54Speaker 8: or two teams in the same division. But so three
- 18:57Speaker 8: inductees into the Hall of Fame this year, Carlos Beltran,
- 19:00Speaker 8: Andrew Jones, Jeff Kent, Andrew do you think that they
- 19:04Speaker 8: made at the right decision.
- 19:06Speaker 10: I don't. I don't think any one of those three
- 19:09Speaker 10: that they selected to make the Hall of Fame wasn't worthy.
- 19:13Speaker 10: I thought they were all certainly worthy. I think, of course,
- 19:17Speaker 10: the one that the thing that stuck out to me
- 19:20Speaker 10: most as the headline, more so than these three guys
- 19:23Speaker 10: getting in, was that, Okay, so you're ten pasted and.
- 19:26Speaker 9: It wasn't much of a surprise.
- 19:27Speaker 10: But you look at the career in life of Manny
- 19:30Speaker 10: Ramirez and no Hall of Fame, and I the MLB
- 19:35Speaker 10: is certainly it's a unique structure, to say the least,
- 19:38Speaker 10: when it comes to the Hall of Fame. Right, given
- 19:40Speaker 10: that it's ten years and you're done, some of the ballots,
- 19:43Speaker 10: like you mentioned, they could go and not have a
- 19:45Speaker 10: Hall of Fame class. Theoretically in a year if not
- 19:49Speaker 10: a player gets seventy five percent votes, I think that's
- 19:52Speaker 10: kind of ridiculous. I think I don't know how you
- 19:54Speaker 10: go in a whole year without one that's even a possibility.
- 19:59Speaker 10: But you look at me, any Ramirez, it was a
- 20:01Speaker 10: twelve time All Star, nine times Silver Slugger, five hundred
- 20:05Speaker 10: and fifty five home runs, but in the playoffs, leads
- 20:09Speaker 10: and home runs and RBIs in history, twenty nine home runs,
- 20:12Speaker 10: seventy eight RBIs, it's the most of the postseason. But
- 20:16Speaker 10: performance enhancing drugs suspension fifty games in two thousand and
- 20:19Speaker 10: nine and then one hundred games suspension which was his
- 20:21Speaker 10: second offense in twenty eleven. He retired before that whole
- 20:26Speaker 10: thing went into effect, and that was it. So I
- 20:31Speaker 10: look at two thousand and nine in twenty eleven, I'm like, Okay,
- 20:34Speaker 10: by the letter of the law, he did have those
- 20:38Speaker 10: performance enhancing drugs and was suspended and paid the punishment
- 20:42Speaker 10: for that. Right, you look at that, and that did.
- 20:45Speaker 9: Not impact the twenty nine home runs and seventy eight RBIs.
- 20:48Speaker 10: We could say, well, Andrew, well, he may have been
- 20:50Speaker 10: using performance enhancing drugs his entire career, but.
- 20:54Speaker 4: We don't know that.
- 20:54Speaker 10: Keywords may have been, yeah, you can't base everything in
- 20:58Speaker 10: life off of maybe. So that's where you lose me.
- 21:02Speaker 10: That's where you kind of lose me. If you're gonna
- 21:04Speaker 10: judge the entire career off of one suspension for one
- 21:11Speaker 10: finding by the letter.
- 21:13Speaker 9: Of the law. That's that's kind of where I struggle with.
- 21:16Speaker 10: But but to the guys that made it, it's it's,
- 21:19Speaker 10: you know, one of the things that's crazy, Like Beltran.
- 21:22Speaker 10: You know, we're already at the stage where okay, he's
- 21:25Speaker 10: he's retired, been long enough retired to where he can
- 21:27Speaker 10: make the Hall of Fame. It's sort of the I know,
- 21:30Speaker 10: we were the what stage in life were we and
- 21:32Speaker 10: now we're we I thought we were watching these players
- 21:35Speaker 10: and now they're now they're in the Hall of Fame.
- 21:37Speaker 10: And you know, I always seem to remember Carlos Beltran.
- 21:40Speaker 10: My memories of it is he's an astro. But he
- 21:42Speaker 10: was only there two years, four and seven. Yeah, so,
- 21:46Speaker 10: which which is crazy enough, played the Mets, Yankees, Giants
- 21:49Speaker 10: cards as well, and twenty seven hundred hits, four under
- 21:53Speaker 10: thirty five home runs, nine time All Star, you know,
- 21:56Speaker 10: won the World Series in twenty seventeen, and the whole
- 21:59Speaker 10: story behind that. But very worthy. I was really excited
- 22:03Speaker 10: to see see Beltran get in.
- 22:05Speaker 8: So an interesting thing about Beltran. You mentioned it was
- 22:09Speaker 8: his fourth year on the ballot. It's strange to me
- 22:13Speaker 8: that his first year on the ballot was twenty twenty three,
- 22:17Speaker 8: so this is three years removed from the scandal about
- 22:21Speaker 8: the astros cheating scandal coming out, and you know, originally
- 22:25Speaker 8: he was made to look like the mastermind of it,
- 22:27Speaker 8: which I think there was some truth to that, but
- 22:29Speaker 8: it wasn't solely on him. So it's I find it
- 22:33Speaker 8: funny that even though there are people that still talk
- 22:36Speaker 8: about the astros cheating, that he did get in in
- 22:39Speaker 8: his fourth year. Last year he was very close to
- 22:43Speaker 8: the threshold. He had seventy point three percent of the vote,
- 22:48Speaker 8: and then this year he does make it in with
- 22:49Speaker 8: the most vote of any of the two that were inducted.
- 22:53Speaker 8: This year, he had more percentage than Andrew Jones. So
- 22:58Speaker 8: he's also one of those guys that I don't really
- 23:00Speaker 8: know if I associate him with just one team, because
- 23:02Speaker 8: he never really had a long enough stint with a
- 23:05Speaker 8: team to do that. I mean, I would probably say
- 23:07Speaker 8: the Mets if I had to. Yeah, that was right
- 23:10Speaker 8: when I was getting into baseball, was when he was
- 23:12Speaker 8: in his prime with New York. So I think I
- 23:15Speaker 8: would probably say the Mets. But I know a lot
- 23:16Speaker 8: of people would say the Royals, the team he started with,
- 23:19Speaker 8: he started his career with, and then I think the
- 23:24Speaker 8: younger baseball fan most likely associates him with the Astros
- 23:28Speaker 8: cheating scandal. So it's interesting how that can happen with
- 23:31Speaker 8: some players, even when they are Hall of famers, they
- 23:33Speaker 8: still bounce around to a lot of different teams. He
- 23:36Speaker 8: ended up playing for seven different organizations in his career.
- 23:40Speaker 10: Do you know what strikes me though, is amazing because
- 23:42Speaker 10: you bring up the cheating scandal and everything that he
- 23:45Speaker 10: gets in in year four and so what's the argument
- 23:48Speaker 10: of putting in him in year four, Well, that was
- 23:50Speaker 10: just one year as the last year of his career.
- 23:52Speaker 10: Well you look at Manny Ramirez exactly, or Pete Rose, right,
- 23:56Speaker 10: so you look at because Ramirez was twenty eleven, the
- 24:00Speaker 10: first suspension was nine, okay, so you have Beltran, Well,
- 24:04Speaker 10: twenty seventeen, that was just one year.
- 24:06Speaker 4: Yeah, he could have still did it.
- 24:07Speaker 8: He could have been using technology to still size four
- 24:10Speaker 8: years ago.
- 24:10Speaker 10: So if we're gonna go off of the maybe principle,
- 24:13Speaker 10: that's and that's where you know, it's up to the
- 24:17Speaker 10: criteria of the journalists of what they deem morally responsible
- 24:21Speaker 10: in the history of baseball, and that's where you certainly
- 24:26Speaker 10: have interesting decisions.
- 24:28Speaker 4: I wonder how hoziel Twov is going to be treated
- 24:30Speaker 4: when he's up for Hall of Fame election.
- 24:31Speaker 9: I think it would be it would be criminal if
- 24:33Speaker 9: he did not make it.
- 24:34Speaker 4: I agree, but I.
- 24:35Speaker 8: Do think it might end up being kind of like Beltran,
- 24:37Speaker 8: where he's on there for a few years.
- 24:39Speaker 10: It may it's not gonna be first year, but but
- 24:41Speaker 10: I think if you look at twenty seventeen, everything comes
- 24:46Speaker 10: out in twenty twenty and twenty twenty was a shortened season.
- 24:48Speaker 10: But had there just been this massive falloff and al
- 24:51Speaker 10: tuo ve struggle to hit two hundred, then people would
- 24:54Speaker 10: start wondering, well, has he just is that why he
- 24:56Speaker 10: was always so good?
- 24:57Speaker 4: Well?
- 24:58Speaker 10: No, he's turned it around and done just fine. The
- 25:00Speaker 10: World Series champion twenty twenty two. You know, HiT's very
- 25:04Speaker 10: close to three hundred most every season he's he's been
- 25:08Speaker 10: just fine. I think he's, you know, just about one
- 25:11Speaker 10: everything there is to win, and so I to me,
- 25:15Speaker 10: I think post scandal, there's been enough to to say otherwise.
- 25:20Speaker 10: I do agree with you wholeheartedly, though it probably will
- 25:23Speaker 10: take four years or five years for the journalist to
- 25:27Speaker 10: finally make Okay, you know what, let's he deserves this
- 25:30Speaker 10: and he does. I think I think at this point,
- 25:32Speaker 10: if he stopped right now, you hang his number in
- 25:35Speaker 10: the rafters, he should be it's and he's Hall of Famer.
- 25:39Speaker 10: That's if he stopped now. So he still could potentially
- 25:43Speaker 10: go on in the remainder of his contract. If he
- 25:45Speaker 10: goes on quite a run, could get three thousand hits
- 25:48Speaker 10: before this is all said and done.
- 25:50Speaker 9: You don't leave a guy like that out. That's just
- 25:52Speaker 9: that's just bite. I know, I know, I know we're
- 25:53Speaker 9: a little bit homer on that, but I think I
- 25:56Speaker 9: don't know. I don't see.
- 25:57Speaker 10: I don't see a world in which you leave him out.
- 25:59Speaker 10: But we're also living in a world that Manny Ramirez
- 26:01Speaker 10: is not in the Hall of Fame. So I really
- 26:03Speaker 10: don't know.
- 26:04Speaker 8: Yeah, it'll be interesting to see if Altuve gets to
- 26:08Speaker 8: three thousand, because he's thirty six years old. He's sitting
- 26:14Speaker 8: at twenty twenty four hundred and sixty four hits in
- 26:17Speaker 8: his career, so he's probably gonna have to play at
- 26:19Speaker 8: least three or four more seasons to get to three thousand,
- 26:23Speaker 8: assuming you know, he can keep like a two fifty
- 26:25Speaker 8: batting average or so, and this year he's hitting a
- 26:29Speaker 8: if you don't count the COVID year, which I don't
- 26:31Speaker 8: think should be counted, just because of all the things
- 26:33Speaker 8: that were going on with that. This is his career
- 26:37Speaker 8: low of batting average by kind of a lot. So
- 26:40Speaker 8: he's definitely on the decline. But he's also thirty six
- 26:43Speaker 8: years old.
- 26:43Speaker 4: It didn't have anything to do with It's just I
- 26:46Speaker 4: really just like that. Yeah, it's life.
- 26:48Speaker 8: Some some guys have, you know, a little bit of
- 26:50Speaker 8: a resurgence when they get into their late thirties, but
- 26:53Speaker 8: it's not looking like that's gonna be what happens with Altuve,
- 26:56Speaker 8: which is is fine. You know, you judge players the
- 26:59Speaker 8: greatness of play. Doesn't always have to be judged on
- 27:01Speaker 8: their longevity. A lot of times you can it's just
- 27:04Speaker 8: off of their peak. Oh yeah, And I think Andrew Jones,
- 27:08Speaker 8: who was inducted this year, is a perfect example of
- 27:11Speaker 8: that because he had one of the greatest peaks of
- 27:13Speaker 8: all time from about probably ninety nine to two thousand
- 27:18Speaker 8: and six, one of one of the best peaks of
- 27:21Speaker 8: all time, and then he kind of fell off after that.
- 27:24Speaker 8: But it's okay, because during those you know, seven seasons,
- 27:28Speaker 8: he was one of, if not the greatest center fielder
- 27:32Speaker 8: in Major League Baseball for each of those seasons, not
- 27:35Speaker 8: just offensively but also defensively.
- 27:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 27:37Speaker 10: And I think it's if you factor like the late
- 27:42Speaker 10: years towards retirement or the very like the rookie seasons
- 27:47Speaker 10: and start to throw it as a discredit.
- 27:50Speaker 9: I sort of find that a little irresponsible. Like Troy
- 27:52Speaker 9: Aikman started.
- 27:53Speaker 10: One in fifteen his first year, you know, goes on
- 27:56Speaker 10: to win three Super Bowls, that kind of thing. You know,
- 27:58Speaker 10: some people come hot out of the game. Some people
- 28:02Speaker 10: go right into their into retirement age. You look at
- 28:05Speaker 10: Tom Brady playing in his forties. Yeah, and that last
- 28:09Speaker 10: season was iffy, but he won a Super Bowl the
- 28:12Speaker 10: year before, right at the end. So some people come
- 28:14Speaker 10: out of the gate hot, some people even in the
- 28:16Speaker 10: gate hot.
- 28:17Speaker 9: I mean, you've got.
- 28:18Speaker 10: To look at the whole body of work presented over
- 28:21Speaker 10: most of these guys a decade and a half to
- 28:23Speaker 10: two decades.
- 28:24Speaker 8: Yeah, I agree, And we'd be remiss if we didn't
- 28:28Speaker 8: dive into a little bit the career of the only
- 28:31Speaker 8: of these three Hall of Fame inductees to ever win
- 28:34Speaker 8: a Most Valuable Player award, which is also insane. Amazed
- 28:38Speaker 8: Jeff Kent, who did not get elected during his normal
- 28:41Speaker 8: time on the ballot.
- 28:42Speaker 4: He had to go through the.
- 28:44Speaker 8: Committee to get into the Hall. But I think he's
- 28:50Speaker 8: very deserving. Excited to see him get his roses.
- 28:53Speaker 4: I think he has the.
- 28:54Speaker 8: Most homers from the second base position, I'm pretty sure
- 28:57Speaker 8: is the stat that probably carried him through the committee
- 29:00Speaker 8: into the Hall.
- 29:00Speaker 10: Three point fifty one out of his three seventy seven
- 29:03Speaker 10: were as a second basement. And then something that no
- 29:06Speaker 10: one's going to care about, no one's going to look at,
- 29:08Speaker 10: but he was eighth, He's eighth in league history and
- 29:11Speaker 10: putouts in fourth in league history in double places.
- 29:13Speaker 4: I don't think I knew that, So, I mean.
- 29:16Speaker 9: That's part of the job as well.
- 29:18Speaker 10: Yeah, so you know, you talk about the defensive position there,
- 29:22Speaker 10: so I think that's you know, five time All Star,
- 29:25Speaker 10: and then you talk about twelve twelve seasons of twenty
- 29:27Speaker 10: plus home runs as well, the longevity and consistency. Again,
- 29:32Speaker 10: like we talked about from the top of the segment,
- 29:34Speaker 10: I think each one of those three is more than
- 29:36Speaker 10: deserving to get into and you know, we we brought
- 29:39Speaker 10: up Manny Ramirez a lot. I don't want to shy
- 29:41Speaker 10: away from what this means for Kent, Beltrannon and Jones,
- 29:44Speaker 10: because those three guys, I mean, very very well deserving
- 29:48Speaker 10: and got their flowers. And I think about the Jeff
- 29:51Speaker 10: Kent walk off into the Crawford boxes and believe that
- 29:54Speaker 10: was was it four or four oh five? I'm not
- 29:58Speaker 10: near the slips four yeah, and that helmet flip coming
- 30:01Speaker 10: around third and I you know, that's when you see
- 30:05Speaker 10: him going to Cooperstown. That's the first thing I think of.
- 30:08Speaker 10: And it's just really good for each one of these three.
- 30:11Speaker 8: Absolutely, So Manny Mumirez was the first one that we
- 30:15Speaker 8: noted that didn't make the cut. And I will say
- 30:18Speaker 8: that I think if you don't, if you don't bring
- 30:22Speaker 8: in Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens into the Hall, I
- 30:25Speaker 8: don't think you can bring in Manny. Yeah, just because
- 30:28Speaker 8: I feel like, if you do one, you have to
- 30:29Speaker 8: do them all. Personally. I think if the Hall of
- 30:31Speaker 8: Fame is about the history of baseball, then you should
- 30:34Speaker 8: bring them all. Because Barry Bonds is the greatest hitter
- 30:37Speaker 8: of all time statistically. Yes, I know he did steroids
- 30:41Speaker 8: performance enhancing drugs, but I think I don't. I mean,
- 30:45Speaker 8: I don't think any of this has been proven, but
- 30:47Speaker 8: I'm pretty sure it was just mostly the end of
- 30:49Speaker 8: his career that was pretty much it. So before that,
- 30:52Speaker 8: he was still one of the best pure hitters of
- 30:55Speaker 8: all time. So if he never does steroids, I still
- 30:57Speaker 8: think Barry Bonds is one of is a Hall of Fame.
- 31:00Speaker 8: Like he wouldn't have these inflated home run numbers, sure,
- 31:04Speaker 8: but he would still be one of the greatest hitters
- 31:06Speaker 8: of all time because to hit over three hundred for
- 31:09Speaker 8: years on years on years, you still have to have
- 31:12Speaker 8: an innate gift to hit the baseball.
- 31:14Speaker 10: Oh, can we just mention that for a guy like
- 31:16Speaker 10: Barry Bonds or even Manny Ramirez, where if you just
- 31:19Speaker 10: exclude and put a zero for all of the stats
- 31:22Speaker 10: in those years of suspension or like him in that area,
- 31:25Speaker 10: there's still probably at or above the guys that made
- 31:29Speaker 10: the Hall and Kent, Beltran and Jones. Like the home
- 31:32Speaker 10: run totals, if you exclude so many years of Barry
- 31:36Speaker 10: Bonds' career, he's still going to have several hundred. So
- 31:41Speaker 10: I do totally agree with you, though, why Manny Ramirez
- 31:45Speaker 10: not getting in you've already dug in the hole or sorry,
- 31:49Speaker 10: you already dug the hole of not putting in Flemens
- 31:53Speaker 10: and not putting in Bonds. So the Riders have and
- 31:57Speaker 10: again with the ten year limit of you're no longer
- 32:01Speaker 10: eligible on the ballot, which I don't really like either,
- 32:06Speaker 10: where it's ten years and that's it, and then the rest,
- 32:09Speaker 10: you know, they do have the committees now, yeah, which
- 32:11Speaker 10: is to bring good get back to you know, take
- 32:13Speaker 10: a look back and it's kind of like an audit
- 32:15Speaker 10: almost of the past of the past ballots.
- 32:17Speaker 9: Yeah, and that's fine.
- 32:20Speaker 10: I don't it didn't even need to get there, I
- 32:21Speaker 10: don't believe, but it's good to have it. So, but
- 32:26Speaker 10: you know, you look at and maybe there is a
- 32:28Speaker 10: day yet where where Clemens and Bonds or reinstated or
- 32:33Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 32:34Speaker 8: I think that's something that will have to be done
- 32:36Speaker 8: by the committees, and it probably will still be a
- 32:39Speaker 8: few years from now. But I just feel like, if
- 32:41Speaker 8: you're gonna have the Hall of Fame be kind of
- 32:43Speaker 8: like you know, the Baseball Museum, then you have to
- 32:46Speaker 8: have its best players in there. Another guy that this
- 32:51Speaker 8: is going to impact in his fifth year on the ballot,
- 32:53Speaker 8: only getting forty percent of the vote. Is I think
- 32:56Speaker 8: he's third all time in home runs or fourth Alex Rodriguez.
- 33:00Speaker 8: And that's the only benefit of this entire thing that's
- 33:02Speaker 8: going to come out of it, is that he doesn't
- 33:04Speaker 8: get in the whole fame because I hate a Rod.
- 33:05Speaker 8: I'm gonna be I'm just gonna come out and say it.
- 33:07Speaker 8: He might be my least favorite baseball player of all time.
- 33:10Speaker 10: He does have a dislikable approach about him, doesn't he for.
- 33:14Speaker 4: US Astros fans anyway?
- 33:15Speaker 8: Yeah, well, and any Red Sox fans out there, there's.
- 33:18Speaker 10: Probably a number of fan bases that probably would agree
- 33:20Speaker 10: with you. But I do think on the human side
- 33:22Speaker 10: of it, and you know, putting a Rod aside, he's
- 33:24Speaker 10: come out in interviews already saying he's come to terms
- 33:27Speaker 10: with he's just not gonna make it.
- 33:29Speaker 9: Yeah, and he's in year four of eligibility and something
- 33:31Speaker 9: about that.
- 33:32Speaker 10: It's just kind of like it's up and off about
- 33:34Speaker 10: that probably, Yeah, but well, but it's a Rod.
- 33:38Speaker 4: So Yeah.
- 33:41Speaker 8: Well, that's gonna wrap up our Hall of Fame discussion
- 33:43Speaker 8: that was brought to by Chad Jones Law we'll come
- 33:45Speaker 8: back and we're going to get into some of the

- 37:06Speaker 8: Chip Howard Sports Talk here on a Wednesday afternoon.
- 37:10Speaker 4: Caleb Rapley in the host chair.
- 37:12Speaker 8: Across the table is Andrew rap Silver, and we are
- 37:16Speaker 8: going to get into some of the biggest moves from
- 37:21Speaker 8: the NBA offseason. Jason and Jarrett aren't here this week
- 37:24Speaker 8: to talk about him, so we have to. And it's
- 37:27Speaker 8: unfortunate for them that they weren't here at all after
- 37:30Speaker 8: the Lebron news came out, So I really hate that
- 37:32Speaker 8: for that. I was going to say, it's a bad,
- 37:33Speaker 8: bad week to miss. Yeah, they are. They're really you know,
- 37:37Speaker 8: of Chips guest hosts that fill in during the summer,
- 37:40Speaker 8: they are definitely the most NBA, the biggest NBA fans
- 37:44Speaker 8: of any of those people.
- 37:45Speaker 4: So hate it for them, But I'll have to pick
- 37:47Speaker 4: up the slack a little bit.
- 37:49Speaker 8: Obviously everybody's heard about it by now, but I just
- 37:51Speaker 8: want to look at the fit a little bit. Lebron
- 37:54Speaker 8: James signing with the Philadelphia seventy six ers and it's
- 38:00Speaker 8: it's a two year deal on basically a minimum contract.
- 38:05Speaker 8: So I think that of the teams that he was
- 38:08Speaker 8: rumored to go to throughout this saga, I really think
- 38:12Speaker 8: this is one that might it makes a lot of
- 38:15Speaker 8: sense as far as positional fit goes with assuming that
- 38:20Speaker 8: Joel Embiid can stay healthy. I think that's what this
- 38:23Speaker 8: all kind of hinges on, because if Lebron is your
- 38:27Speaker 8: main big man on the court, it's probably not going
- 38:30Speaker 8: to go as well, just because of his age, playing
- 38:35Speaker 8: in the post is not where he wants to be.
- 38:38Speaker 8: So as long as that is, as long as they
- 38:42Speaker 8: don't try to do that at all, I think that
- 38:44Speaker 8: this will work out very well. And I saw some
- 38:46Speaker 8: rumors floating around that he's going to be the main
- 38:48Speaker 8: ball handler, which would also be very interesting. We saw
- 38:51Speaker 8: him do that with the Lakers when they won the
- 38:55Speaker 8: championship in the Bubble back in twenty twenty, so we
- 38:59Speaker 8: every already knows that Lebron can do that, and if
- 39:01Speaker 8: that's what they have him do, I think it'll probably
- 39:03Speaker 8: fit pretty well. I do wonder where that leaves Tyrese Maxey,
- 39:07Speaker 8: who was the point guard for the seventy six Ers,
- 39:09Speaker 8: and you know, we'll still be on the floor, of course,
- 39:11Speaker 8: But I don't think the Sixers were on the radar
- 39:15Speaker 8: for Lebron at all until they made that Jaylen Brown trade.
- 39:18Speaker 8: Getting rid of Paul George and replacing him with Jaylen
- 39:20Speaker 8: Brown propelled the Sixers into, you know, being top tier
- 39:25Speaker 8: contenders and being a little more interesting for Lebron, a
- 39:29Speaker 8: little more enticing.
- 39:31Speaker 4: Because it was basically Sixers calves or.
- 39:33Speaker 8: Heat I think at the end, and the heat that
- 39:37Speaker 8: fit never made any sense to me at all with
- 39:39Speaker 8: Joannis and Bam, So I really think fit wise, this
- 39:42Speaker 8: is this is the best that could have turned out
- 39:43Speaker 8: for Lebron.
- 39:45Speaker 10: I I think so if you're looking solely at you know,
- 39:48Speaker 10: the job that he wants at this point is who
- 39:52Speaker 10: is going to put him in the best contention of
- 39:54Speaker 10: the available teams to win an NBA championship, right, And
- 39:59Speaker 10: I don't think going to Golden State would have done that.
- 40:02Speaker 4: I don't think going to.
- 40:03Speaker 10: Miami, And granted I get it Giannis and Bam, but
- 40:08Speaker 10: then beyond that, they traded away the farm essentially to
- 40:12Speaker 10: get Jannis, And so you talk about them wanting Lebron
- 40:17Speaker 10: to be the main guy, the main ball handler. I
- 40:19Speaker 10: think that that's an interesting thing because I don't necessarily
- 40:23Speaker 10: disagree with it. Ty Reese, Maxie's been the main point guard,
- 40:27Speaker 10: but they've also only won one playoff.
- 40:29Speaker 9: Series in the last however many years.
- 40:32Speaker 4: You need something different and Bed's been there.
- 40:34Speaker 10: Yeah, you need something different, something to change, and maybe
- 40:38Speaker 10: MAXI being under the wing of Lebron for which this
- 40:43Speaker 10: last two years, which is this is it? This is
- 40:44Speaker 10: the last two it when when Lebron shows up, it
- 40:49Speaker 10: brings a different culture, a different way of going about
- 40:52Speaker 10: your job on the team. He brings all of the
- 40:55Speaker 10: career resume that he has in the success and I think,
- 40:59Speaker 10: you know, when he shows up your not you automatically
- 41:03Speaker 10: become better. But you start training a different way, you
- 41:06Speaker 10: start practicing a different way, you change a lot of
- 41:08Speaker 10: things about the way you're going about playing basketball. And
- 41:11Speaker 10: I think that I think it's gonna be beneficial. I
- 41:14Speaker 10: do look at him consistently being the main guy. I
- 41:19Speaker 10: wonder about that. I really do, because in health plays
- 41:23Speaker 10: a factor, the minutes play a factor, and I don't
- 41:27Speaker 10: know that's that's certainly an interesting piece, but I do
- 41:30Speaker 10: think and a lot does hinge on Joel Embiat as well.
- 41:34Speaker 8: The Sixers also brought in Contavious Caldwell Pope, who was
- 41:38Speaker 8: with Lebron on the twenty twenty Lakers. So they're just
- 41:41Speaker 8: trying to rebuild the twenty twenty Lakers. Basically, now we
- 41:45Speaker 8: just have to wait on them to trade for Anthony Davis.
- 41:49Speaker 4: But so the Sixers waiting on that. Yeah, yeah, don't
- 41:52Speaker 4: hold your breath.
- 41:53Speaker 8: The Sixers I think definitely have the best offseason of
- 41:55Speaker 8: any team.
- 41:56Speaker 4: But the other side of that is the Celtics.
- 41:57Speaker 8: Who's that One's pretty rough trading for getting rid of
- 42:03Speaker 8: Jayalen Brown and getting Paul George in return. Don't know
- 42:06Speaker 8: how I feel about that. You know, got some draft picks,
- 42:10Speaker 8: but I really think the Sixers got the better end
- 42:12Speaker 8: of that deal, and the Celtics continued their players that
- 42:17Speaker 8: were good in twenty sixteen mindset by signing Mike Conley
- 42:19Speaker 8: to a one year.
- 42:20Speaker 10: Deal, right, And I think, uh, some of that it's
- 42:24Speaker 10: it's certainly I think if you're in the Northeast right
- 42:28Speaker 10: now with Boston, that's certainly some of us has to
- 42:30Speaker 10: feel troubling. I think, yeah, there's a lot that goes
- 42:32Speaker 10: into this though, and especially with Philly and Lebron that
- 42:35Speaker 10: you know, people do forget, well, the Knicks are still
- 42:38Speaker 10: in the East. They're gonna have to they could be
- 42:40Speaker 10: something that be a collision course there. I think what's
- 42:43Speaker 10: fortunate too is I think even with the growth of
- 42:47Speaker 10: the Sixers, I still view the Spurs and Thunder is
- 42:51Speaker 10: probably better and that they don't have to deal with
- 42:54Speaker 10: that as much out there in the West. And so
- 42:56Speaker 10: I don't think it automatically means because Lebron shows up
- 43:00Speaker 10: it's a sixers championship.
- 43:02Speaker 9: There's a long way to go between that.
- 43:04Speaker 10: The Knicks just said the most dominant playoff run, one
- 43:07Speaker 10: of the more dominant playoff runs in by way of
- 43:09Speaker 10: how they went through each series, you know, in recent history,
- 43:15Speaker 10: and so I definitely think it puts them in much
- 43:17Speaker 10: higher contention. I don't think it's a for me. I
- 43:21Speaker 10: look at it as a done deal. Championships going on
- 43:23Speaker 10: to Philly.
- 43:24Speaker 9: I don't know yet.
- 43:25Speaker 8: Yeah, two more moves I want to talk about before
- 43:26Speaker 8: we hit our break here. Obviously, I think the first
- 43:31Speaker 8: big domino I don't remember if this was before Jalen
- 43:34Speaker 8: Brown trade or not. I think it was Giannis going
- 43:36Speaker 8: to the Heat free agent signing or no, sorry, that
- 43:39Speaker 8: was a trade.
- 43:40Speaker 4: What am I talking about? They traded Tyler Hero and.
- 43:43Speaker 8: Basically everybody else in their roster not named bam Autabayo
- 43:47Speaker 8: for Giannis Antetokumpo, which you know, one of the You're
- 43:52Speaker 8: gonna have the best front court in the league with
- 43:54Speaker 8: Jiannis at power forward and Bam at center. But I
- 43:56Speaker 8: have no idea what their guards are going to look like. So,
- 43:59Speaker 8: I mean they're bringing Andrew Wiggins, bringing in Tim hardaway junior.
- 44:04Speaker 4: But top heavy, yeah, yeah, very top heavy.
- 44:06Speaker 10: No depth, right, That's that's a that's not a very
- 44:10Speaker 10: comfortable way to to live. I think Jersey sales are
- 44:14Speaker 10: going to be tremendous. It's gonna make a lot of
- 44:16Speaker 10: money in in South Florida. I think, you know, there's
- 44:21Speaker 10: a lot of things that go into that as well.
- 44:24Speaker 10: And I mean Giannis is a pretty big name guy clearly,
- 44:27Speaker 10: and so it you know, in the business side of it, it
- 44:30Speaker 10: looks great, You're gonna make a lot of money, get
- 44:32Speaker 10: more people in seats. I I don't think a long
- 44:36Speaker 10: term haul and a like a tough playoff team and
- 44:38Speaker 10: things like that to elevate you to the championship status,
- 44:42Speaker 10: that's I don't think so.
- 44:44Speaker 8: And then the last one, uh, the Minnesota Minnesota Timberwolves,
- 44:49Speaker 8: a fourteen trade with the Charlotte Hornets and a couple
- 44:55Speaker 8: of other teams that didn't really you know, add anything
- 44:58Speaker 8: of note. For being honest, LaMelo Ball going to Minnesota
- 45:03Speaker 8: pairing up with Anthony Edwards. That's going to be one
- 45:05Speaker 8: of the most exciting back courts in the league. I
- 45:08Speaker 8: don't know how well.
- 45:09Speaker 4: They're going to play together.
- 45:10Speaker 8: I don't know how well they're going to get along
- 45:12Speaker 8: off the court, they're going to.
- 45:14Speaker 4: Get up to.
- 45:14Speaker 10: Yeah, those are those are some strong personalities and strong
- 45:18Speaker 10: talents Anthony Edwards of course a generation or not I
- 45:22Speaker 10: would say generational, but a very top of the league
- 45:25Speaker 10: to kind of talent. And you know, the NBA is
- 45:30Speaker 10: pretty familiar with large personalities and large personalities fighting and
- 45:35Speaker 10: so I'm that to me could seem like a ticking
- 45:39Speaker 10: time bomb of before the first locker room or off
- 45:43Speaker 10: court issue sure finds its way in. So I think
- 45:47Speaker 10: you've got to I bet you've got to know that
- 45:49Speaker 10: in if you're you know, and it's it's ironic though
- 45:53Speaker 10: with the personalities, and then who owns the Timberwolves but.
- 45:57Speaker 9: A Rod So I'll realize that, Yeah, Sea talk.
- 46:00Speaker 10: About the the very vibrant personalities.
- 46:04Speaker 4: Well, there you go.
- 46:05Speaker 10: So it'll it'll be it'll be regardless of whether it's
- 46:09Speaker 10: good or not, it's going to be entertaining and it's
- 46:11Speaker 10: going to be fun to watch.
- 46:12Speaker 9: It's going to be entertaining to see.
- 46:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:15Speaker 14: Uh.
- 46:15Speaker 8: And it's a good thing that that LaMelo and ant
- 46:17Speaker 8: are together in Minneapolis and not like Miami or somewhere.
- 46:20Speaker 8: That's yeah, because the would get up to a lot
- 46:21Speaker 8: more Shenanigans. There were some first round picks involved in
- 46:24Speaker 8: that trade.
- 46:24Speaker 4: Also.
- 46:25Speaker 8: Uh, Julius Randall went to the nets and the bulls
- 46:29Speaker 8: got in there somehow. I'm still not exactly sure why
- 46:31Speaker 8: the bulls needed to be included in this, but anyway, Uh,
- 46:34Speaker 8: that's that's NBA trades for you. We're going to take
- 46:37Speaker 8: another break. The Astros Report is brought to you by

- 47:53Speaker 3: The Houston Astros have done it again as they defeated
- 47:56Speaker 3: the Angels in Game two of the series last night
- 47:58Speaker 3: with a final score three to two. Struck first in
- 48:00Speaker 3: the first with a Gordon Alvarez home run. The Angels
- 48:03Speaker 3: would respond with the run of the third to tie
- 48:05Speaker 3: the game. In the fourth, Christian Walker hit a long
- 48:07Speaker 3: bowl to take a two to one advantage, but the
- 48:09Speaker 3: Angels didn't back down, tying it up again in the fifth.
- 48:12Speaker 3: It would remain two to two until the ninth inning,
- 48:14Speaker 3: when Jordan Alvarez get Houston the lead.
- 48:16Speaker 11: Top of the night and Alvarez s fash is at
- 48:18Speaker 11: in a center of base sift that scores Allen Honest
- 48:21Speaker 11: way to third pace now is fastas and Jordon Alvarez
- 48:25Speaker 11: drives in his second run of the night. This one

- 49:50Speaker 8: driver has now won two races this season and doesn't
- 49:53Speaker 8: have a full time.
- 49:54Speaker 10: Seat, right, I think what's you could argue the San
- 49:58Speaker 10: Diego race where he first won, mm hmm. You could
- 50:01Speaker 10: have called that a very fluky race.
- 50:04Speaker 4: And he did have to spend Carson Hosvar to win it.
- 50:06Speaker 9: Right, there's all all of that thrown into it.
- 50:08Speaker 10: It was a a I don't want to goofy is
- 50:11Speaker 10: not the right word, because it was a spectacle to watch.
- 50:13Speaker 10: It was, But it's just the track itself and the
- 50:15Speaker 10: cars handling that you could call that. But when you
- 50:17Speaker 10: go to Indianapolis, that's a that's proof enough and there's
- 50:23Speaker 10: a lot of raw talent there. And again for no
- 50:26Speaker 10: points in the points standings because he's a part time driver.
- 50:29Speaker 4: Yeah, and I hate the way that works also.
- 50:31Speaker 10: Right, I think it is interesting it's not a full
- 50:35Speaker 10: time guy. You just don't get anything.
- 50:38Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean you get the payout and I guess
- 50:42Speaker 8: it makes sense. Like you know, they called it the
- 50:44Speaker 8: bushwhacking rule back when they implemented it so that you
- 50:46Speaker 8: couldn't you had to declare which series you were going
- 50:49Speaker 8: to be full time in of the of the three
- 50:52Speaker 8: National Series, So I get why they do it. It's
- 50:55Speaker 8: just it would be fun if you could win both
- 50:58Speaker 8: of them in the same season, and Corey Heim probably could.
- 51:01Speaker 4: If you want me, he could.
- 51:02Speaker 10: I think, though I don't know if this is necessarily
- 51:06Speaker 10: a talent evaluation thing too, because, like you, Chase Elliott
- 51:11Speaker 10: proven champion. You know, the problem with with Elliott of
- 51:15Speaker 10: late in the past couple of years is he's he
- 51:17Speaker 10: is consistent top ten, top five, high in the point standings.
- 51:20Speaker 10: It's just converting that to wins consistently all the time. Yeah,
- 51:23Speaker 10: But Elliott started in the Cup Series at twenty fifteen,
- 51:26Speaker 10: didn't get his first win till twenty eighteen. So there
- 51:29Speaker 10: was a period there where people wonder, you know, all right,
- 51:32Speaker 10: let's you know, Bill Elliott's kid, what's gonna happen, when's
- 51:36Speaker 10: this happening?
- 51:36Speaker 16: You know?
- 51:37Speaker 10: Is he not that good? And he's done just fine
- 51:40Speaker 10: right six standing right now? Yeah, Zilich, I think is
- 51:44Speaker 10: going through the tough part of that.
- 51:45Speaker 6: Now.
- 51:46Speaker 10: He won ten races in what was the or now
- 51:49Speaker 10: the O'Reilly Series last year. Now it's been a disastrous year,
- 51:57Speaker 10: but then people forget also he's nineteen, so there's time
- 52:00Speaker 10: to sort of work things out. And then sometimes you
- 52:02Speaker 10: have early bloomers like Corey Heim who's already won two races.
- 52:05Speaker 10: Carson Joseovar was one of those as well that in
- 52:09Speaker 10: his second year really started a blosso now got a
- 52:12Speaker 10: race win this year, right. So I don't know if
- 52:15Speaker 10: it's necessarily a talent evaluation thing. I just think sometimes
- 52:19Speaker 10: in motorsports it takes a lot longer to develop than
- 52:22Speaker 10: say like an NFL or MLB type.
- 52:24Speaker 8: League, And I don't even know if it's development necessarily.
- 52:28Speaker 8: Sometimes that is the case, but I think a lot
- 52:30Speaker 8: of time it's just there's not a seat open like
- 52:33Speaker 8: once you have if you're a driver in a you know,
- 52:36Speaker 8: a middle of the road team, you know, like a
- 52:39Speaker 8: track house racing with Zilich or Aspier Motorsports with Carson Josovar,
- 52:43Speaker 8: if you're just solid, you know they're probably not going
- 52:45Speaker 8: to get rid of you. But if but that kind
- 52:49Speaker 8: of blocks the way for some of these younger rookies
- 52:52Speaker 8: and phenoms that are coming through the ranks.
- 52:54Speaker 4: If you want a.
- 52:55Speaker 8: Little bit of a snapshot of how disappointing and unlucky
- 52:58Speaker 8: Connor Zilich's season been this year. If you go buy
- 53:01Speaker 8: owner points, Corey Heim in what three or four races
- 53:06Speaker 8: that he's been in or okay, eight eight starts to
- 53:09Speaker 8: Zilich's twenty two, corey Heim has more points, which is just.
- 53:13Speaker 10: So unbelievable to think about really, But you bring up
- 53:17Speaker 10: a great point because you go from Junior Motorsports with
- 53:19Speaker 10: Connor Zillach in the O'Reilly Series, one of the top
- 53:22Speaker 10: teams there, of course, to track House which is nothing.
- 53:26Speaker 10: They're nothing, this needs at but they're He's not in
- 53:29Speaker 10: top He's not in Gibbs equipment, He's not in Hendrick equipment. Yeah,
- 53:33Speaker 10: Corey Heim is in twenty three eleven equipment, which is
- 53:35Speaker 10: very similar to Gibbs equipment. And sure that kind of
- 53:38Speaker 10: funding and that matters a lot. I really think that
- 53:43Speaker 10: matters a lot. And why Connor Zillich is still in
- 53:46Speaker 10: the running for the forty eight car because I think
- 53:48Speaker 10: if you put Zilich in the forty eight car, you're
- 53:50Speaker 10: gonna start getting a lot more results.
- 53:51Speaker 9: Like you've seen absolutely him. The equipment very much matters.
- 53:54Speaker 8: Yeah, the earliest we'll see that's twenty twenty eight. Alex
- 53:57Speaker 8: Bowman will be returning for twenty twenty seven and retire
- 54:00Speaker 8: after that. But you mentioned Zilich going from Junior Motorsports
- 54:04Speaker 8: to Trackhouse. A similar thing kind of happened with Noah Gragson,
- 54:09Speaker 8: and he is starting to be one of those drivers
- 54:12Speaker 8: that is just perceived as not that good driving the
- 54:16Speaker 8: number four car for Front Row Motorsports. He's very low
- 54:19Speaker 8: in the standings, especially in the number four car, which is,
- 54:22Speaker 8: you know, just a storied charter with Kevin Harvick, legendary
- 54:27Speaker 8: driver with Stuart Haas Racing. So I think that also
- 54:30Speaker 8: kind of adds to the disappointment of Noah Gregson. I
- 54:34Speaker 8: think he probably will end up losing that seat after
- 54:37Speaker 8: probably next season. I think they do expect him to
- 54:39Speaker 8: return for one more but that's just how motorsport goes,
- 54:42Speaker 8: and that's you know Formula One as well, it's very similar.
- 54:46Speaker 4: But that's that's.
- 54:47Speaker 8: About all the time we have here in the first hour.
- 54:49Speaker 8: We're going to take one more break and send you
- 54:51Speaker 8: to the five o'clock hour. This is Chip Howard's Sports
- 54:53Speaker 8: Talk on the Zone.
