- 0:40SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: I'm pretty sure.
- 0:42SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: I'm pretty sure that's what I said.
- 0:45SPEAKER_12: I'm pretty sure that you're pretty sure.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: I'm fairly sure.
- 0:50SPEAKER_12: I'm fairly sure that you're fairly sure.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: I'm definite.
- 0:55SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 0:56SPEAKER_03: I'm definite that you're 292.
- 0:58SPEAKER_12: Alright.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: Um, we have nothing to talk about.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: Well, I wouldn't say nothing.
- 1:03SPEAKER_12: Well, I want to say, I wanna I wanna point out that your head is red like a cherry tomato.
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: Almost as red as as the uh the couch there.
- 1:11SPEAKER_12: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: It's it's pretty red, man.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: Well, here's and here's why.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: Because I'm an idiot, for one thing.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: Um, but I also kind of uh let's see, don't A, listen to my wife, uh, and B uh want to do something that would go against my role as a teacher.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: And here's what I mean by that, because she thought this was stupid.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: Um today was my first and second grade um spring concert.
- 1:42SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: We have it outside during the school day.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: So uh and so we have the risers out uh on the on the back playground there, and all morning we in in half hour spurts, I would have uh pre-K come out and rehearse on the risers because their concert is tomorrow.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: Kindergarten come out on the risers and rehearse and like line up and everything and kind of practice.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and uh and their concerts tomorrow as well.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: And and then the first grade would come out, and then the second grade would come out and they'd all practice, and then at one o'clock in the afternoon was the sec uh first and second grade spring concert.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: So I was outside all morning on a beautiful sunny day, and and and some of the afternoon as well.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: And you know, I left the house this morning and and and my wife says, You got sunscreen for your head?
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: I was like, uh no.
- 2:42SPEAKER_03: Uh you're gonna wear a hat?
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: No, I can't wear a hat, I'm a teacher.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: You can wear a hat in the sun.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: No, like I'm not gonna wear a baseball hat in uh for the first grade and second grade spring concert.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: I'm uh the teacher, I can't wear a baseball.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: You can wear a baseball cap.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: You're gonna get burned.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: She's not wrong.
- 3:05SPEAKER_03: I didn't want you know, I I've never seen a teacher wear a hat, especially in a concert, right?
- 3:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah, but usually the concerts are inside.
- 3:14SPEAKER_12: That's true.
- 3:15SPEAKER_12: So that's true.
- 3:16SPEAKER_12: I think an exception can be made for this.
- 3:18SPEAKER_12: Well especially being outside.
- 3:20SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 3:20SPEAKER_12: Six inches from the sun.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: Well, uh my principal was there, he wasn't wearing a hat, he's bald.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: My uh security officer was there, he wasn't wearing a hat, he's bald.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: I of course they weren't outside all morning long.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: You know, they just kind of checked it.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: How's it?
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: You need anything for me?
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: No, I'm good.
- 3:39SPEAKER_03: So I was outside all morning long, and and that's why.
- 3:43SPEAKER_03: And I'm gonna pay for it.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's gonna hurt tomorrow, I'm sure.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: I have another concert tomorrow.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: Two two concerts tomorrow.
- 3:49SPEAKER_12: Well, it's not gonna be sunny tomorrow.
- 3:51SPEAKER_12: They're probably gonna have them inside.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: Well, they they won't have them inside.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: They will postpone them until next week.
- 3:58SPEAKER_10: Oh, so they have to be outside.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: They have to be outside.
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: Well, because we can't fit you should have seen the crowd today, dude.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Because people uh families and and uh friends bring their lawn chairs.
- 4:09SPEAKER_12: Oh, okay.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: And they it was packed.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: I mean it was a packed.
- 4:13SPEAKER_12: Did anybody sit in their cars and like at the end of the song honk?
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: They know the cars don't they aren't allowed around the school.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: So it's just around the back of the school.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: So we had we had the kids set up here, and then the the rest of the playground was was parents and families and and the same will happen for pre-K and kindergarten as well.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: And we can't fit them all in the gym.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: Excuse me.
- 4:37SPEAKER_03: So um we're if if it doesn't happen tomorrow, uh we're postponing uh until next week.
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: So we'll see we'll see how that goes.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: But you're right, it's not supposed to be as sunny tomorrow.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: But you can still get you can still get a sunburn without without the sun.
- 4:54SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah.
- 4:55SPEAKER_12: Yeah, but that that's only when it's like July.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's true.
- 5:00SPEAKER_12: You know, when the sun's like directly overhead.
- 5:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:03SPEAKER_12: You know what I mean?
- 5:04SPEAKER_03: I'll probably I'll have to put some aloe on my head before I go to bed.
- 5:08SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah, definitely, man.
- 5:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:09SPEAKER_12: Yeah, you gotta put something on that because that's gonna especially when it starts peeling.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:13SPEAKER_12: And you look like an eczema patron, you know?
- 5:16SPEAKER_12: So it's gonna be like, Yeah, yeah, look at Mr.
- 5:18SPEAKER_12: Major, he's got dandruff.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and of course, you know, I I got home and my wife was like, You didn't wear sunscreen.
- 5:27SPEAKER_03: No, you didn't wear a hat.
- 5:29SPEAKER_12: You should get one of those like um summertime fedoras, like uh what's his face in uh uh what was that show with it?
- 5:37SPEAKER_12: The plane, boss, the plane.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: Oh, fantasy island?
- 5:39SPEAKER_12: Fantasy island, like um Ricardo Montobond.
- 5:43SPEAKER_12: A sunny time a summertime fedora.
- 5:45SPEAKER_12: Yeah, man.
- 5:45SPEAKER_12: You know that that like that big white big white one?
- 5:48SPEAKER_12: Yeah, and you just be like, hmm.
- 5:51SPEAKER_12: Hello.
- 5:52SPEAKER_12: I'm Mr.
- 5:53SPEAKER_12: Mojer.
- 5:54SPEAKER_12: Welcome.
- 5:54SPEAKER_12: Welcome.
- 5:55SPEAKER_12: And I'll be over there going, the plane, boss, the plane!
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: I'm just picturing that right now.
- 6:02SPEAKER_12: They'd be like, Who's that weird guy over there on his knees?
- 6:06SPEAKER_03: Um so anyway, that's where the that's where the sunburn came from.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: And then um so the my spring concert was last Thursday for the high school and and the middle school, and it went very well.
- 6:17SPEAKER_03: Okay, good.
- 6:18SPEAKER_03: Oh, by the way, um I wasn't sure how it would come out, so I forgot to invite you actually to the concert.
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: But uh I wonder if I can find it.
- 6:28SPEAKER_12: Did you did you do it?
- 6:30SPEAKER_12: Oh, you did do it.
- 6:31SPEAKER_12: Oh, yeah.
- 6:31SPEAKER_12: Because I know you were waffling on it.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, you weren't.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: We weren't.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: I wasn't sure.
- 6:35SPEAKER_03: I wasn't sure.
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: I wonder if I can find it.
- 6:37SPEAKER_03: Let me see if I can find it.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: Um There it is.
- 6:43SPEAKER_03: See if it'll play.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: Will it play?
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: Because if it'll play, I will find it for you.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: It's not gonna play.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: Hold on.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Uh Ryan.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Let me do this.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: Of course, my phone is on 7% as well.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: That's enough.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: You think so?
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: Uh I know who posted it.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna see if they're and I'm gonna see if it was the father of one of my middle schoolers who posted it.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: There it is.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: Let's see.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: So I did a little speech before.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: So let's see if we can make this happen.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: My thanks as always to Mr.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: Mary Joe Happen on piano.
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: That's me thinking the the accompany piano accompanist of uh Ms.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: Happen in the second half of the year as she took a step back, but she was able to squeeze in and so what we're talking about is my spring concert last Thursday.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: Uh we included one of my songs, one of Common Crossings songs.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: Uh and there's the the arrangement is different.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: You'll notice a difference.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: Okay, I'm sure.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: And I I did play guitar on this one.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: Uh I try to keep the song selection process as democratic as possible.
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: I present a list of songs to choose from, and this year I created a poll.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: Students vote anonymously, and the four songs that get the most votes are the ones you go with.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: Don't stop me now, almost didn't make it.
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: Uh Janice here uh kind of really pulled hard for that one and made it.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: So our uh next piece garnered 80% of the vote.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: It's a song I wrote almost 30 years ago.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: The other 20% who did not vote in the song are failing my clients.
- 10:02SPEAKER_11: Good one.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: This is a love behind them featuring solos from Halloween.
- 10:15SPEAKER_03: Now Hunter felt really bad.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: He did the second verse.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: And he forgot the words.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: He botched it a little bit, forgot the words.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: Been there and done that, my friend.
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: But listen, you know, he got up there, and having a having a guy get up there and do it is a lot.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: It's awesome.
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: That was me plugging my guitar in.
- 10:35SPEAKER_12: I was about to say that sounded like a familiar sound.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: That's somebody said, Snap, they're all snappy, really.
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: The two still looks together.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: That was pretty awesome, wasn't that cool?
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: That was great.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: Now, if I'd have thought about it that last chorus, I would have had somebody doing like a scat scat scatting or something like that.
- 14:19SPEAKER_03: Uh I thought it was really cool, and I actually said somebody recorded that.
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: I'm hoping somebody recorded that.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: Um and I haven't seen uh Hunter who did the the second solo um since that night because he was absent today.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: Um but I wanted to tell him because this is a kid, he's a freshman.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: This is a kid who um yes might have pitch problems, but I believe that he could do it.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: Uh I picked it well, a lot of people auditioned, and a lot of people can could have done it.
- 14:53SPEAKER_03: I gave it to him because well, you know when you see something in somebody and they need a little boost, right?
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: Or whatever.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: I think it was that one uh he was that that kid.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: Anyway, he's like, When I told him, I said, uh um and the second solo goes to Hunter.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: And uh he's like, Me?
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: I'm like, Yeah, man.
- 15:14SPEAKER_03: And so we would practice it.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: We only practiced that song for like a month.
- 15:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you could tell.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: Well no, I mean, even for a month, that was pretty good, man.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: And we kind of uh arranged it together as a class.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: Um, and I didn't have it all written out, so we I taught it to them by rote.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: I would be like, Okay, so uh Altos, you sing this.
- 15:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's why it took so long.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: And so um when Hunter auditioned, he was in that range, right?
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: I mean uh hey girl, stop you crying.
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: And he he learned it and he sang it really well, but when he got up in front of everybody in class to do it, nerves.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, you know, I totally get it.
- 15:54SPEAKER_03: He's a freshman guy singer.
- 15:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 15:57SPEAKER_03: And I got all these looks from these people that auditioned, were like, oh you pick really you picked him?
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: You know, I just stuck with it.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: I was like, yeah, he's gonna do it.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: He's gonna do it.
- 16:07SPEAKER_03: And then the rehearsal before this concert, he nailed it.
- 16:14SPEAKER_03: I mean pitch, uh uh rhythm, everything.
- 16:19SPEAKER_03: The melody, everything.
- 16:21SPEAKER_03: He nailed it.
- 16:22SPEAKER_03: So much so that as we're as we're singing it, I was like, Yes, Hunter.
- 16:26SPEAKER_03: You know?
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:27SPEAKER_03: He's like, Yeah.
- 16:28SPEAKER_03: And then at the concert, it's just one of those things.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: It's like you got a crowd watching you, and there's a lot of pressure, and he just forgot.
- 16:39SPEAKER_12: I don't know anything about that.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: That has never happened to me ever.
- 16:43SPEAKER_03: I but I wanna I wanted to talk to him today.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: You know, he was absent.
- 16:47SPEAKER_03: I wanted to talk to him and tell him, dude, because you could tell as soon as he was finished with that solo that he was just beating himself up inside.
- 16:57SPEAKER_12: Oh, yeah, I totally get that.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh almost almost crying.
- 17:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, inside inside.
- 17:02SPEAKER_03: Inside.
- 17:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: Um, so I wanted to I wanted to tell him uh that I was um I was uh honored that he sang on my song.
- 17:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, it wasn't perfect, but Callie's wasn't perfect either.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: Callie's, you know, it was but they were it was great.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: But it it worked out well.
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: Yes, it did.
- 17:20SPEAKER_12: It's nice to hear our stuff, you know, done by somebody else.
- 17:24SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 17:24SPEAKER_12: You know, that's that's really cool.
- 17:26SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 17:26SPEAKER_12: I think you should uh send that to the boys.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: You think so?
- 17:30SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah, they'll they'll get out of it.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: I'll try well I don't so it's on somebody else's uh Facebook page.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:36SPEAKER_12: Um so I don't know if I can well maybe maybe they could send it to you, you know, DM it to you or something like that.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: Something.
- 17:44SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: I mean I'll reach out to them or something because I would like to send that to the boys.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 17:49SPEAKER_03: Um but yeah, so that's a cool thing that happened.
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: That was very cool.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: Um, let's see, what else?
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: Uh Eli went to prom and then he got uh asked to a different prom, and he went to that one.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: So he went to two proms in a week.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: Um which was cool.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: He had a had had a good time.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: Good.
- 18:09SPEAKER_03: Uh next week is the last week for him.
- 18:12SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 18:12SPEAKER_12: Next week?
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: Next week?
- 18:14unknown: Yep.
- 18:15SPEAKER_03: He graduates Friday, right?
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: Graduates the fifth.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: Um so Jude went camping at the Bay of Funding.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 18:27SPEAKER_03: Interesting.
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: I'm just sort of kind of filling you in on things that happened in the past week.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: Um track meets, yeah.
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: That's uh that's that's my life right now.
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: How about you?
- 18:39SPEAKER_03: Nothing.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: Did you work at all this week?
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I was in there today.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, today.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because you you had Memorial Day, obviously.
- 18:46SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 18:46SPEAKER_12: Um I was the math teacher today.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: I was talking to Johnny B.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: That's what we did.
- 18:54SPEAKER_03: We had a uh uh graduation party for Jude and Kristen.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: Oh, cool, yeah.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: Because Kristen graduated in December.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: Um so anyway, I'm talking to Johnny B and he's like, How's Doug like in retirement?
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: I was like, Well, he's not really retired.
- 19:10unknown: Yeah.
- 19:11SPEAKER_03: Ever since he's retired, he's working all the time.
- 19:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:14SPEAKER_03: And uh he didn't know you were at the Braden, so I told him you were at the Braden.
- 19:17SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: Um, I saw Wendy and Kevin there they're there all the time.
- 19:21SPEAKER_12: Well, that's the first time I'd seen them there when I was there.
- 19:24SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, they're big movie goers.
- 19:25SPEAKER_12: Yeah, because I was I was talking to them, I was like, Oh, and they're like, What are you doing?
- 19:28SPEAKER_12: I'm like, I'm working here, I'm subbing up in Ashland.
- 19:30SPEAKER_12: And Wendy's like, You're subbing?
- 19:32SPEAKER_12: I was like, Yeah.
- 19:33SPEAKER_12: She's like, You need to sub for us.
- 19:35SPEAKER_12: Mm-hmm.
- 19:37SPEAKER_03: Us out?
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:39SPEAKER_12: I was like, I don't think Joel will allow that.
- 19:44SPEAKER_12: But she but she said something, but she was like, Uh, you're still serving others, that's awesome.
- 19:48SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 19:48SPEAKER_12: I was like, Well, I never even thought of it that way.
- 19:50SPEAKER_12: Yeah, no, it's true.
- 19:51SPEAKER_12: Yeah, so I thought that was cool.
- 19:52SPEAKER_12: So Yeah.
- 19:53SPEAKER_03: And I told and when I told Johnny B uh that you were subbing up, he just he just lit up.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: He's like, Oh man, they must love him right there.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: It's like, oh yeah.
- 20:01SPEAKER_03: They call him Mr.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: Doug.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: Mr.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: Doug.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 20:04SPEAKER_03: So it's awesome.
- 20:04SPEAKER_12: Well, last week I I got to be part of last Friday.
- 20:07SPEAKER_12: Uh the Masons in Ashland.
- 20:09unknown: Yeah.
- 20:09SPEAKER_12: The ma uh the Mason lodges around here do a thing called Bikes for Books.
- 20:13SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I've heard of that.
- 20:14SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 20:14SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 20:14SPEAKER_12: So they they do it a little bit different in Ashland.
- 20:18SPEAKER_12: They do it only with the second grade.
- 20:21SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
- 20:22SPEAKER_12: And every kid gets a bike.
- 20:24SPEAKER_12: Every kid.
- 20:25SPEAKER_12: Every kid in the second grade gets a bike.
- 20:27SPEAKER_03: Because Ashland's second grade is probably Well, there's only sixteen kids.
- 20:31SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 20:31SPEAKER_12: So I mean, we gave away twenty-two in Marseille the week before.
- 20:36SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 20:37SPEAKER_12: But that was pre-K to sixth grade.
- 20:39SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 20:40unknown: Okay.
- 20:40SPEAKER_12: So they're just giving away they're giving away almost the same amount of bikes, but just to the second grade.
- 20:46SPEAKER_12: And they do that every year, just to the second grade.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: Is there a reason?
- 20:48SPEAKER_12: Or just because just because it's easier.
- 20:51SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 20:51SPEAKER_12: Because they they just don't have the numbers.
- 20:53SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 20:53SPEAKER_12: So and uh but it was really cool because there was a couple kids in there I was pretty sure have never had a new bike.
- 21:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 21:01SPEAKER_12: So now they have 'cause like one little one little guy, he was just his biggest.
- 21:06SPEAKER_12: I I turned to one of the guys, I said, That's that's the most kid the most smile I've seen out of that kid all year.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: He just grinning from here.
- 21:14SPEAKER_03: That's the best part, man.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that was literally the best part.
- 21:17SPEAKER_03: I have a I have a a story like that here in a second, but I'll let you finish.
- 21:21SPEAKER_03: So I'm done.
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: You're done.
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: No.
- 21:27SPEAKER_12: No, but it was just it was just really cool that I got to be part of Mars Hills Bikes for Books.
- 21:32SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 21:32SPEAKER_12: Got to be part of their or theirs.
- 21:34SPEAKER_12: And then to come up to Ashland and be part of theirs.
- 21:36SPEAKER_12: So it was really nice.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: It's it's um you when you talk about the smile on the kids' face, so I had a similar experience.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: So we had our spring concert on Thursday and on Friday I was at the middle school for middle school chorus.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: And what are you gonna do after the concert?
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm gonna give out awards.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah And it turned out that uh it was my last um class at the middle school because normally normally I would um have middle school chorus on Wednesdays and Fridays even after the concert.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: So we would do like karaoke.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: We just have fun until the end of the year.
- 22:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: But it was decided that week that uh because of the big changeover.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: And and and they have to build walls and they want to put a bunch of stuff on the stage of the auditorium as as like a catch-all.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: You know, to to kind of store it there so they can do stuff.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: And so I was basically losing my classroom.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: And she my principal gave me the option.
- 22:36SPEAKER_03: She says, um so we could put you in a classroom or we could just say no more course for the rest of the year.
- 22:45SPEAKER_03: So I picked B.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: No more course for the rest of the year.
- 22:47SPEAKER_03: Because all we would do would be carrying a lot of it's destructive anyway, so why not?
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: So that Friday I gave out awards.
- 22:55SPEAKER_03: And um the the award so so each get a certificate for participating in course and the um students that have been with me for all three years, sixth, seventh and eighth grade, they get a plaque.
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: It's like an eighth grade plaque.
- 23:09SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 23:10SPEAKER_03: So this one kid has been a pain in my butt.
- 23:18SPEAKER_03: I had him so when I first went back into education as an ed tech at Zippel is when I first got exposed to this kid.
- 23:27SPEAKER_03: And he has been um he's he's how can I explain it?
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: He's one of those guys that deep down you could tell he's a sweet kid but he just questions authority and he just uh wants to just marches to the beat of his own drum and uh is always in trouble.
- 23:49SPEAKER_03: Like suspended trouble.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: You know I mean he's always he's that kid because hey he's got a big mouth or you know something stupid.
- 23:57SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: But he's been in my chorus but but he hasn't been consistently in my chorus.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: So uh like the I I was giving the awards and I said okay and I said to him I said so so according to the office you were in chorus sixth grade uh but only for quarter three and quarter four.
- 24:21SPEAKER_03: Seventh grade you were in course but only quarter one and quarter two and at eighth grade this year you've been in course all year.
- 24:32SPEAKER_03: So this plaque I I wasn't gonna give you this award uh because you weren't consistently in course for three years.
- 24:41SPEAKER_03: But you were in course sixth grade seventh grade that's three years isn't it buddy?
- 24:46SPEAKER_03: He's like yeah I was like so this is for you so I gave him the plaque and he goes and sits down and he's like really I was like yeah and so we're doing something else we're talking about something else we've already moved on and I'm looking over there and he's just kind of sitting there in the auditorium seat and just he just blurts out I've never gotten an award in my life I said really yeah I've never gotten a trophy or anything I said well now you have.
- 25:15SPEAKER_03: There you go and I was just like that just made my day man right that's what we do.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: Right I mean we do it you know he he's been such a such a um I don't know challenged figure in in middle school um not necessarily his own challenge but he challenges other people sure you know and gets in trouble for it and here he is getting a an award so I think that was cool that made my day yeah that was yeah that's good yeah that's a good thing so hopefully that um that helps him well maybe it'll be a turning point maybe it'll maybe maybe won't try harder maybe won't maybe won't we don't know but that's okay just the fact that he actually said that and was was was really happy.
- 26:00SPEAKER_12: Yeah he's got an award now was was cool.
- 26:02SPEAKER_03: That's all is good.
- 26:03SPEAKER_03: Yep all is good that was cool um all right what else what else is going on um I I I looked on Ultimate Classic Rock dude there's like nothing yeah oh I will tell you uh what's been nice uh I told you that uh Eli was asked to uh the Van Buren prom.
- 26:22SPEAKER_03: Right went to the Van Buren prom with this nice girl um got to drive uh I should show you a picture where did I put my phone what's over here he got to drive a like 1960 something um sob um but let me show you the picture because it's it's pretty cool uh oh that's one thing I could tell you about we're gonna start talking about music here in a second I promise so look at that oh wow isn't that cool that looks like something James Bond would drive right yeah that's sweet yeah so he looked he looked so like his head was like almost touching the ceiling I'm surprised they didn't have to like a cut a hole in the roof so he could stick his head out.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah and she he was at least two feet taller than she was Eli's almost two feet taller than everybody else.
- 27:17SPEAKER_03: Well I mean she's really tiny.
- 27:20SPEAKER_03: But anyway so he starts telling me about the well I I actually before he starts telling me about this girl afterwards after the prom, I noticed that in the next couple of days he's singing because Eli sings everywhere he goes anyway.
- 27:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah I noticed that but he wakes up in the morning and he's singing like I was like how do you know that song?
- 27:41SPEAKER_03: I love that song.
- 27:42SPEAKER_03: It's from the 60s I was like oh okay singing Sam Cook and he's singing like Otis Redding and right and I'm like how do you how do you what is happening?
- 27:53SPEAKER_03: And he's like well so and so the this girl in Van Buren really likes that music.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: I'm like really marry her no do not let her go yeah he's like she yeah she really she likes the really old stuff.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: I was like well that's really cool.
- 28:09SPEAKER_03: So I was and it just and he's been singing it like all weekend long.
- 28:13SPEAKER_03: We need to bring her on the podcast.
- 28:15SPEAKER_12: Right exactly that's all that's it and uh we gotta show the world we have to show the world that that or at least our tens of listeners.
- 28:22SPEAKER_03: These parents have raised someone the success success um I keep you I'm going on a off on these tangents as well um so I've been so I started you know I put on because I've been listening to I listen to everything anyway yeah but when I got in the car um lately the past couple days I put it on 60s on or 60s gold on on uh on um no serious oh serious serious XM I'm trying to find if the yeah let's try that oh no never mind I was gonna try and find my uh first grade concert today because we're talking about um kids who like old music and I I did actually say into the microphone today um before we did this this song was that uh this song was suggested by a first grader.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't remember which first grader but I want to say I want to commend their parents on raising them the right way because they have good taste in music and it was I love rock and roll but we changed the words to it.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: Uh and there was one girl Oh I did see this post.
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: You did?
- 29:39SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 29:40SPEAKER_03: Which post?
- 29:41SPEAKER_12: About the I love rock and roll you did?
- 29:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:44SPEAKER_03: Who posted it?
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: Uh Corey did or oh that's right yes that's right she did post a picture of yeah yeah anyway so that girl that was in the picture when it got to the chorus she was in the back row when it got to the chorus she and she's not wrong she said she stole the show she was like oh I love Rocky Roll just at the top of her lungs and it was so awesome it was so awesome.
- 30:14SPEAKER_03: And of course we had to change the words because you know we can't have them singing about a 17 year old at a bar or or whatever.
- 30:20SPEAKER_12: Why not?
- 30:21SPEAKER_12: Exactly so to them sing along a Taylor Swift that's just as bad.
- 30:27SPEAKER_03: But I've been listening to to like uh a lot of uh 60s stuff lately and I just forget how much I love that.
- 30:35SPEAKER_03: How much better it was yeah yeah it really was it was simpler but it was well not all of it uh you know if you get into like Brian Wilson and stuff like that.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah but uh it was just more it was m innocent and and most of it anyway the music was innocent.
- 30:57SPEAKER_03: That's what I mean.
- 30:58SPEAKER_12: I don't think the artists were necessarily I'm not saying that I'm not saying that uh I think sometimes we equate it yeah and like oh look at look look how sweet they are you know because like the Beatles I wanna hold you and they're doing like three four girls a night right you know running trains on them.
- 31:15SPEAKER_12: Exactly yeah yeah not you know yeah you want to you want to be that naive but you're like you hear the stories and then you're like kind of it kind of tastes the songs a little bit but you know it's like well it is what it is.
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: You hear the stories you read the biographies.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: Humans are humans yeah so you know um you mentioned the Beatles uh great songwriters yes right we talked uh was it last podcast or the podcast before podcast before before uh the New York Times lists of the 30 Worst list ever 30 uh greatest living American songwriters correct and we made a big stink about who was left off yeah they put the the New York Times didn't put Billy Joel on that list.
- 32:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah still Jackson Brown um James Taylor I mean all these people were left off the list and so we knew we were right well it was just confirmed because if you if anybody knows who Rick Beatto is um very very well respected uh industry person songwriter musician amazing musician uh but uh he's known these days as a YouTuber yeah uh he's got a couple of YouTube channels and they're amazing.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: If you have not checked out Rick Beatto uh on YouTube uh and you're a music fan then I don't know where you've been living um because he's his insight in everything and in interviews oh yeah he interviews just some amazing amazing people in the industry and uh amazing artists and uh he he has uh put his two cents in uh with this stupid stupid well not all stupid not all stupid so I mean a lot stupid it's thirty living American songwriters and there are some people on that list that deserve to be on there.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: But I would say a good a good half half maybe or two thirds or that it's not that they don't that it that they don't deserve to be on there but there are if you're picking thirty there are people that you left off that were uh it's criminal almost and we already mentioned a few of them Billy Joel, Jackson Brown, James Taylor, um and there are so many more.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: And Rick Bianto actually calls them out as well.
- 33:36SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah um he came out with people we told we didn't know we forgot about Donald Fagan.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah how did we forget about Donald Fagan Steely Dan and he he he actually said that there will never be anybody that writes a song like Donald Fagan and he's right.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: He's absolutely right Tom Waits I think we mentioned Tom Waits.
- 33:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah we did Tom uh but um these people should be on this list uh and he points out the fact that the people that picked the list are all Ivy League um snobs basically not only that but none of them have any degrees in like music at all right they're all they're all journalist history literature it's like well okay but keep in mind though music music listening is subjective yeah right you you like what you like you don't like what you don't like there's one guy on there that says I don't like Billy Joel.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: Okay you're an idiot why are you in the New York Times right why did they even let you in the door some people don't like Billy Joel but that doesn't that's that doesn't negate the fact that he belongs on a list of the 30 greatest living American songwriters.
- 34:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:47SPEAKER_03: Randy Newman belongs on that list.
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: People that have been writing songs for decades and having huge success um deserve to be and then they so they he went over the criteria they picked or they used to to pick these writers and and it's just there's a and they got a lot of flack for it as well.
- 35:11SPEAKER_03: Well they should so I just want to point you to uh Rick Biotto on YouTube uh and see if you can find those videos.
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: He does he's done two videos on that topic itself.
- 35:21SPEAKER_03: Uh one of them I think is called this F and guy.
- 35:24SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 35:25SPEAKER_03: Um and then the other one the other one something about what is this S?
- 35:30SPEAKER_12: Yeah what is this stuff.
- 35:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 35:34SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: Um so if you're interested uh check out Rick Beato on YouTube because uh his two cents is worth it.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: So always always worth it um before we go into the rest of the podcast which is we're we're gonna do the the movie thing and then the mixtape and all that stuff I saw this I haven't listened to it I haven't watched it but I thought it would be interesting to see um I also listen something's 50% off I also I also l uh listen and watch uh the professor of rock oh yeah yeah uh Adam Reeder is the the guy and he's got an amazing channel as well and he put out a thing uh recently that said there are times when as an artist you just need to hang it up he says I'm sorry to say that but it's true uh and he called out some people that he called out people he had a list of six people and he went uh this person needs to stop and this then the next one would be this person needs to come out of retirement and share their talent with the world again and then and then the next one was this person needs to stop and the people that he said didn't need to stop Vince Neal of Motley Crue I agree.
- 36:50SPEAKER_03: I agree too I mean and he wasn't like negative about it he was like thank you for what you've given to the world um but it's obvious that you should not be doing it anymore.
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: David Lee Roth was one of those guys.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: If you've seen any of Dave's uh stuff lately because he's out on this tour oh that's right yeah yeah he's out on this tour um he should not be doing it because it's just it's it's it's painful to watch and to hear and you I'm one of the biggest Van Halen fans you know.
- 37:31SPEAKER_03: True and um true story.
- 37:33SPEAKER_03: It just shouldn't be it just shouldn't be happening.
- 37:34SPEAKER_03: Anyway the reason I picked this is because the headline is David Lee Roth tears up while recounting full circle Eddie Van Halen moment.
- 37:44SPEAKER_03: And anytime there's uh talk of Eddie Van Halen I have to kind of dive in and see what it's all about.
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: So this is um on my daughter's birthday May 19th of this year um I just wanted I just want to play it and see what it says.
- 38:00SPEAKER_05: Hopefully there's no swearing but we'll see we'll go from here oh yeah we've got to get through a political ad first I cannot wait until this season is over this political this is just for the midterms right okay so this is a concert in uh I think it said uh Palmdale California or somewhere in California or Pennola's Pennsylvania sorry so he's putting on an acoustic guitar sometimes I forget he can actually put a guitar and he does well actually pretty good well doesn't he do the uh acoustic guitar and ice cream he does yeah yep I don't know how long this this oh this video is 11 minutes long hold on a second let me see if let's see if I can find if there's a timestamp or anything because I don't want to play the whole video to the kitchen with just a little bit is what I'd say hey you want to have a cigarette and go yeah and that's what we did have the two of us one cigarette it was French and only what locked it true story okay that's what that that's good enough um so yeah he's he's missing Ed.
- 42:16SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah I'm sure yeah um it's quite a history there is quite a history and and you do you know Al Van Halen's come out with another book uh and I think it's just called his name's Alex not Alan I said Al oh okay yeah sorry Alan Van Halen who's that no Al Al the mystery third brother he's an accountant he's coming out with a uh a new book and I think it's simply called Van Halen and it's uh I want to say it's a picture book I could be wrong.
- 42:46SPEAKER_12: Well a picture book from a drummer makes sense totally get it totally get it it's probably four pages too one two three four one two three four I'm sure there's a coloring section too if I ever write my autobiography there's gonna be a coloring section it's gonna be great it's gonna be right smack dab in the middle of the book all right let's move on all right I have the um uh what is this called again I don't know movie thing Poorly Explained movies that's what it is 80s edition uh I have picked three that I think you'll get and one that I don't think you will okay but you surprise me all the time so I surprise myself sometimes um actually this one might have been one that you wouldn't get but we'll let let's see here is the explanation a man gets engaged
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: To his co-worker's dad.
- 44:08SPEAKER_03: The hint is he's an actress.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: 1982.
- 44:18SPEAKER_12: It's gotta be um what's it Tootie?
- 44:22SPEAKER_10: Close.
- 44:22SPEAKER_10: Toot Tootsie.
- 44:23SPEAKER_10: Tootsie.
- 44:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 44:24SPEAKER_10: It is Tootsie.
- 44:25SPEAKER_12: I gotta it's gotta be.
- 44:26SPEAKER_12: I was like, that's gotta be the only one I can find.
- 44:28SPEAKER_12: See, I thought that one would be tough, but you got it.
- 44:30SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 44:30SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: Uh number two.
- 44:33SPEAKER_03: A new English teacher gives a class on profanity.
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: The hint is, you want the hint?
- 44:45SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: He's in the military.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: 1987.
- 44:49SPEAKER_12: Oh, is it with Tom Beringer?
- 44:51SPEAKER_12: Nope.
- 44:52SPEAKER_12: No?
- 44:52SPEAKER_12: Nope.
- 44:55SPEAKER_12: An English teacher.
- 44:57SPEAKER_03: He's not an English teacher, but he was teaching English.
- 45:01SPEAKER_12: Oh, good morning, Vietnam.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: Good job.
- 45:05SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 45:06SPEAKER_03: That's one movie that I haven't shown my kids yet that I want to I should I want to show my kids.
- 45:10SPEAKER_12: So freaking funny, man.
- 45:11SPEAKER_03: Um all right.
- 45:13SPEAKER_03: A guy throws away a necklace.
- 45:18SPEAKER_03: The hint is, you know what the hint?
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: It was his dead friends.
- 45:23SPEAKER_03: 1986.
- 45:30SPEAKER_03: This is really a poor explanation.
- 45:32SPEAKER_12: It really is.
- 45:33SPEAKER_03: A guy throws away a necklace, it was his dead friends.
- 45:35SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: 1986.
- 45:36SPEAKER_03: Top gun.
- 45:37SPEAKER_03: It is top gun.
- 45:39SPEAKER_10: Almost didn't get it.
- 45:40SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 45:40SPEAKER_10: I had to think about it.
- 45:42SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 45:43SPEAKER_03: This one I don't think you'll get.
- 45:45SPEAKER_03: Because I don't know if you've seen it, but maybe you have.
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: Never know.
- 45:50SPEAKER_03: Uh a father rescues his son at the pool.
- 45:57SPEAKER_03: The hint is they're both in college.
- 46:02SPEAKER_03: 1986.
- 46:03SPEAKER_12: Oh, is it uh back to school?
- 46:04SPEAKER_03: Holy cow.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: Rodney Danger for me.
- 46:07SPEAKER_03: It is.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: I didn't think you'd get it, but you did.
- 46:09SPEAKER_03: You got all four.
- 46:11SPEAKER_10: Yay! Nice job, my friend.
- 46:14SPEAKER_10: Thank you so much.
- 46:15SPEAKER_10: You're welcome.
- 46:16SPEAKER_10: Uh are we ready for this?
- 46:18SPEAKER_10: Well, I haven't heard from the judge.
- 46:20SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 46:21SPEAKER_12: So that's unusual.
- 46:23SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 46:24SPEAKER_03: Um.
- 46:27SPEAKER_03: What do you want to do?
- 46:28SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: We can move on.
- 46:30SPEAKER_03: Did you send a message from her?
- 46:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:31SPEAKER_03: Or to her?
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 46:32SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 46:33SPEAKER_03: Move on how?
- 46:34SPEAKER_12: Well, we could do our the present and future.
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: You want to do that?
- 46:38SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:39SPEAKER_03: And uh and then if she if she gets if she gets a held of us, we can just kinda she can just she can write it too.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: She doesn't have to record it.
- 46:45SPEAKER_12: No, I know, but okay.
- 46:46SPEAKER_12: Like the message has been opened and read.
- 46:48SPEAKER_12: Oh, it has.
- 46:49SPEAKER_12: It's been nothing.
- 46:50SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 46:50SPEAKER_12: Oh, okay.
- 46:50SPEAKER_12: That's why I'm like, hmm.
- 46:52unknown: Okay.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: So we'll do we'll do uh present and future?
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:56SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's well let's start.
- 46:58SPEAKER_10: It's time for everyone's favorite part of the show.
- 47:02SPEAKER_10: With everyone's favorites, O'Brien, Doug, Cousin Larry, and yours truly, Miss Judgeness.
- 47:08SPEAKER_10: Judge Ness Judge Ness.
- 47:10SPEAKER_10: It's time to play mixtape, mixtape.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: Well, we'll start with the present, so let me read it to you.
- 47:25SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 47:26SPEAKER_03: Uh Land It! You'll be known as the greatest stunt man ever.
- 47:31SPEAKER_03: Crash and its certain death in a fireball of twisted metal and broken hearts.
- 47:38SPEAKER_03: What song do you play as you hit the gas?
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: What did Cousin Larry say?
- 47:44SPEAKER_12: Hey, cousin Larry! Mixed up! Well, my first thought was once again the Benny Hill theme song Yakity Sacks by Bootranoff.
- 47:54SPEAKER_12: I've used that one a few times, so I'm gonna pick something different.
- 47:57SPEAKER_12: The final countdown came to mind, but that's not really about a death-defying stunt.
- 48:02SPEAKER_12: I think I have to go with Fire on High by ELO, as it was the theme song from CBS's Sports Spectacular, and represented, with apologies to ABC's Wide World of Sports, The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat.
- 48:16SPEAKER_12: Greatest Stuntman Ever.
- 48:18SPEAKER_12: I'm so sorry.
- 48:19SPEAKER_12: Greatest Stuntman Ever or Death.
- 48:22SPEAKER_12: Music seems to fit.
- 48:23SPEAKER_12: Honorable mention to the unknown stuntman by Glenn Larson and a few others.
- 48:29SPEAKER_12: It was a song from the original The Fall Guys show with Lee Majors.
- 48:33SPEAKER_12: Good show.
- 48:33SPEAKER_12: Let's not forget Heather Thomas.
- 48:35SPEAKER_03: Heather Thomas.
- 48:36SPEAKER_12: I love that show.
- 48:37SPEAKER_03: Me too.
- 48:38SPEAKER_03: I love the way uh Cousin Larry answers the question.
- 48:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 48:41SPEAKER_03: And the honorable mentions and everything, and it just goes deep.
- 48:44SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: It's so cool.
- 48:46SPEAKER_03: He's wicked smash.
- 48:47SPEAKER_03: This is Face the Music from ELO.
- 48:51SPEAKER_03: Is this the one?
- 48:52SPEAKER_03: I think is this the one uh Fire on High?
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: N face the Music.
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: It's from the album Face the Music.
- 48:57SPEAKER_03: Fire on High.
- 48:58SPEAKER_03: Is this the one with a with a Yodeling?
- 49:00SPEAKER_03: I don't remember, dude.
- 49:03SPEAKER_03: Am I thinking about a different song?
- 49:31SPEAKER_03: We should play this backwards then.
- 49:32SPEAKER_03: See what it's saying.
- 49:33SPEAKER_12: See what he's saying.
- 49:39SPEAKER_12: Should we skip ahead?
- 49:51SPEAKER_03: This is him hitting the gas.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: I don't know what's happening.
- 49:59SPEAKER_03: I think it is the song I was thinking about.
- 51:28SPEAKER_10: I feel it.
- 51:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 51:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 51:30SPEAKER_10: I get it now.
- 51:30SPEAKER_10: Me too.
- 51:31SPEAKER_10: The beginning was a little I do know what is happening.
- 51:33SPEAKER_10: I do know the song.
- 51:35SPEAKER_03: Um, but I was thinking of a different one.
- 51:39SPEAKER_03: From a different band, actually.
- 51:42SPEAKER_03: Alright.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: Good pick.
- 51:44SPEAKER_03: That is Fire on High from ELO.
- 51:47SPEAKER_03: That is uh cousin Larry's pick.
- 51:48SPEAKER_03: What is your pick?
- 51:50SPEAKER_12: Baby, you can drive my car.
- 51:52SPEAKER_12: The Beatles.
- 51:53SPEAKER_12: What thing's it?
- 51:55SPEAKER_12: The Beatles.
- 51:57SPEAKER_12: Well, I only chose it because baby, you can drive my car.
- 52:02SPEAKER_10: Why did you choose a thing?
- 52:04SPEAKER_12: Why did you be a star?
- 52:05SPEAKER_12: See?
- 52:06SPEAKER_10: Star?
- 52:06unknown: Yeah.
- 52:07SPEAKER_12: Because I'm gonna be a star.
- 52:08SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 52:08SPEAKER_12: So I get it.
- 52:10SPEAKER_12: No, it's a good choice.
- 52:11SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 52:12SPEAKER_12: Well, it's a Beatles.
- 52:12SPEAKER_12: Of course, it's a good choice.
- 52:14SPEAKER_12: You can't go wrong with the Beatles.
- 52:16SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 52:18SPEAKER_12: You wanna drink or something?
- 52:21SPEAKER_12: What about my grandmother?
- 52:23SPEAKER_12: She definitely weren't gonna buy.
- 52:27SPEAKER_08: She said, baby, can you speak?
- 52:31SPEAKER_08: Oh wanna be free with a stop and scream.
- 52:34SPEAKER_08: What you can do stop, baby, big sweep.
- 52:38SPEAKER_08: Baby.
- 52:55SPEAKER_03: You can't go wrong with the Beatles.
- 52:57SPEAKER_03: Sorry.
- 52:58SPEAKER_03: You can't.
- 53:00SPEAKER_12: Only they could get away with a lyric like beep beep beep beep.
- 53:02SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 53:04SPEAKER_12: Come on.
- 53:08SPEAKER_03: Again, 60s music.
- 53:10SPEAKER_03: That's what I'm saying, dude.
- 53:11SPEAKER_03: Oh, my word.
- 53:12SPEAKER_03: Alright, so there's that.
- 53:15SPEAKER_03: The one that I picked is a little unconventional.
- 53:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, not really unconventional, but but a little.
- 53:22SPEAKER_03: Um.
- 53:23SPEAKER_03: And you'll understand it, I think, when I tell you the story.
- 53:27SPEAKER_03: So when I.
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: I don't know how much I want to get here, but when I um see if I even have it on here.
- 53:43SPEAKER_10: Do I even have it?
- 53:44SPEAKER_10: Do I have it?
- 53:45SPEAKER_03: Yes, I do.
- 53:46SPEAKER_03: Um so when I was living in Marshall, uh, I think seventh grade, we let's just say, and you'll understand this, but we acquired my father's car.
- 54:02SPEAKER_03: I was about to say you had a field car.
- 54:04SPEAKER_03: We did have a field car.
- 54:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:05SPEAKER_12: Um it was if you're not from northern Maine, you don't know what a field card is.
- 54:09SPEAKER_12: It's a car you literally drive in the field.
- 54:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:11SPEAKER_03: In the potato field.
- 54:12SPEAKER_03: And just beat the crap.
- 54:13SPEAKER_12: And just yeah, it's like a one-man demolition derby.
- 54:17SPEAKER_03: It is.
- 54:18SPEAKER_03: Really is.
- 54:18SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 54:18SPEAKER_12: You just beat the but that's how we all learned how to drive.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: Yes, it is.
- 54:22SPEAKER_12: Which explains if you've ever driven in northern Maine, you totally get it.
- 54:26SPEAKER_12: You're like, wow.
- 54:27SPEAKER_12: Now I understand why these people are insane.
- 54:30SPEAKER_12: It's so true.
- 54:30SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it's so true.
- 54:31SPEAKER_03: So we had a field car, and it was a little Honda, white Honda uh um civic accord.
- 54:39SPEAKER_03: I don't know, it was one of the old ones, tiny.
- 54:42SPEAKER_03: And um, so my brother and I would take it out, um, and in the fields, in the potato fields, uh, out by Bob's house, closer to Bob's house, I think.
- 54:52SPEAKER_03: Yep, there was a road.
- 54:54SPEAKER_03: Um it was a it was in a it was a potato field road, you know, like a potato trucks and and tractors.
- 55:01SPEAKER_03: And we would start at the bottom and it was a hill.
- 55:04SPEAKER_03: And we would we would go up as fast as we floor it, right?
- 55:09SPEAKER_03: As fast as we could, and you get to the top of the hill, and the car would leave the ground like Dukes and Hazard, literally, literally like Dukes and Hazard.
- 55:18SPEAKER_03: I remember my dog Chico would be sitting in the back window, and as soon as we would come down, he'd fall onto the floor.
- 55:25SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 55:26SPEAKER_03: Anyway, we jumped that car a lot.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: And there was one song.
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: We had a little cassette player in the car, and there was one song that even my brother will say to this day, when it comes on, you can't help but push the gas a little bit.
- 55:43SPEAKER_03: Trying to jump something?
- 55:44SPEAKER_03: Yes, trying to jump something.
- 55:46SPEAKER_03: And and it's only because of the buildup.
- 55:49SPEAKER_03: So you started down here when the song started, and and it's not really even a big uh a big big buildup, but when it hit a certain part, you were taking the jump.
- 56:01SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 56:02SPEAKER_03: And I'll show you exactly where that part is when I play 5150.
- 56:06SPEAKER_03: Ah, yeah.
- 56:07SPEAKER_03: From Van Halen.
- 56:08SPEAKER_03: So this is us at the base of the hill.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: And we're and we're going.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: We're going up the hill now.
- 56:29SPEAKER_03: Still climbing.
- 56:35SPEAKER_03: We're getting close to the top.
- 56:39SPEAKER_03: Here we are.
- 56:42SPEAKER_03: Oh, through the air.
- 56:46SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 56:49SPEAKER_03: So this one I have a personal collection with.
- 56:53SPEAKER_03: So 5150 from Van Halen.
- 56:57SPEAKER_03: Still an incredibly underrated song.
- 56:59SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 57:00SPEAKER_03: They haven't done this song live until like this year.
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 57:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:04SPEAKER_03: Um well they did it on the live without a net.
- 57:08SPEAKER_03: Did they?
- 57:08SPEAKER_12: Yeah, yeah.
- 57:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you're right.
- 57:12SPEAKER_03: But but since then, since live without a big thing.
- 57:14SPEAKER_12: I was about to say it's been on probably a long time, yeah.
- 57:16SPEAKER_03: Joe uh Joe Satriani had to learn it.
- 57:18SPEAKER_03: And and they pulled it out when uh Sammy went on the best of all worlds tour.
- 57:22SPEAKER_03: Noise.
- 57:24SPEAKER_03: So yeah, great song.
- 57:26SPEAKER_03: 5150 from Van Halen is my choice.
- 57:29SPEAKER_03: Um Drive My Car from the Beatles is Doug's choice.
- 57:33SPEAKER_03: And Fire on High from ELO was from Cousin Larry.
- 57:38SPEAKER_03: Correct! Uh have you heard from her?
- 57:40SPEAKER_03: Negative.
- 57:41SPEAKER_03: Negative.
- 57:41SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 57:42SPEAKER_03: We have not heard from her.
- 57:43SPEAKER_03: So we are going to pick a future question.
- 57:45SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 57:46SPEAKER_03: And if we hear from her judgedness by the end of the podcast, we'll actually We will.
- 57:50SPEAKER_12: You will use your edit editing magic and put it in.
- 57:55SPEAKER_03: Yes, I will.
- 57:56SPEAKER_03: Or we'll just put it in as soon as we get it.
- 57:58SPEAKER_12: And just be like, hey.
- 58:00SPEAKER_12: This happened.
- 58:03SPEAKER_10: This is in real time.
- 58:04SPEAKER_10: Future question two.
- 58:06SPEAKER_12: Future question.
- 58:21SPEAKER_12: This is interesting.
- 58:23SPEAKER_10: I like that.
- 58:26SPEAKER_03: This one's very good.
- 58:30SPEAKER_03: This is because this is such a deep podcast.
- 58:32SPEAKER_12: I mean, we are we are semi-intellectuals.
- 58:38SPEAKER_03: Are we?
- 58:39SPEAKER_12: Well yeah.
- 58:41SPEAKER_12: We both work in education.
- 58:43SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 58:44SPEAKER_12: My autobiography's gonna have a coloring section.
- 58:49SPEAKER_03: I mean if we work in education, does that make us intellectuals?
- 58:53SPEAKER_12: Not necessarily.
- 58:54SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 58:55SPEAKER_12: Because I know a lot of teachers that are not smart.
- 59:01SPEAKER_03: Same.
- 59:02SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 59:03SPEAKER_03: I do.
- 59:04SPEAKER_12: I love them dearly.
- 59:06SPEAKER_12: Not the brightest crayons in the box.
- 59:08SPEAKER_12: Yeah, no, I I know.
- 59:10SPEAKER_10: So anyway.
- 59:12SPEAKER_03: Go ahead and name names.
- 59:13SPEAKER_03: No, I'm just kidding.
- 59:15SPEAKER_11: You who's number two?
- 59:21SPEAKER_11: Me.
- 59:29SPEAKER_03: But you're not wrong.
- 59:33SPEAKER_12: That's why I I had to laugh today because I was in high school math, and I'm like, I have no idea.
- 59:40SPEAKER_12: She had like worksheets for a couple of them to do.
- 59:42SPEAKER_12: I'm looking at them like Frank if I know.
- 59:46SPEAKER_12: I don't know what I have to do with this crap.
- 59:47SPEAKER_12: Mr.
- 59:47SPEAKER_12: Doug, can you help?
- 59:48SPEAKER_12: Nope.
- 59:51SPEAKER_12: We've come to this the point in the year where they don't expect me to.
- 59:55SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 59:56SPEAKER_12: Which is great.
- 59:57SPEAKER_12: Because they're just like, I just give it to them and then I just sit there and they and they do their thing.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_12: And I'm just like, you guys are doing great.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_12: Fantastic work.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_12: You're all wicked smack.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_12: So no, they don't even ask me anymore.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_12: Which is great, which is perfect because most time especially in math.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_12: Not happening.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_12: But anyway, I digress.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_03: Future question.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_12: Future question.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_12: You just discovered something revolutionary in mathematics.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_12: That's why I brought this up.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_12: Or science.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_12: Lives will be better.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_12: Humanity's reach will expand.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_12: What's playing during your press conference?
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_12: I thought that was interesting.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_12: So you've just discovered something revolutionary in either in either math or science.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_03: So what's playing during your press conference?
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_03: Got it.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_12: Math be like, hey, two plus two is four.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_12: You guys know that?
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_12: What the frick?
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_03: Did you uh I know you notice you're looking at your phone.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_12: Did you hear from I was just taking a picture for Cousin Larry?
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_03: Alright, well she's fired.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_12: I mean it's just it's not under uh she must have got busy at work.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_03: Because you know, you know, uh although Tuesday did sneak up on me, you know, it was Memorial Day yesterday, and we have most people have you know I think it's pro it's probably part of it.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_12: Um I think you know I mean it it's it's tough being, you know, ruler of the world.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: Oh, is that her job?
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_12: Oh, okay.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_12: There's a lot there's a lot going on.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_03: You know, there's I'm just kidding, you're not fired.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_12: I got it.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_10: I got it.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_10: I'm cool.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_12: You know, Taylor Swift.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_03: Who was incidentally on that list of uh the 30 greatest songwriters living in American songwriters.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_12: I know.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_12: Don't remind me.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_03: Okay, so uh we'll take a break and we'll come back.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_11: Put Taylor Swift on there.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_11: Climb the wall of tunes.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_11: I'm we can cause because I went to Harvard.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_11: I went to Yale.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_12: I'm looking smarter than everybody else.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_12: That's why I like Taylor Swift.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_12: Because she's smarter than everybody else.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_12: Who's Billy Joel?
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_03: Hey, but I guarantee you, if you ask Taylor Swift if Billy Joel should be on that list, she would be like, who's Billy Joel?
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_03: No, she won't.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_03: No, she won't.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_03: No, she's she will say absolutely.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_03: Billy's knows Billy Joel.

- 1:03:52SPEAKER_03: We're gonna fit this in right now.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_12: Yes.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_12: Because she's uh, you know, busy running the world.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_03: So at work.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_12: At work.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_12: So her job is very demanding.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_03: Very demanding.
- 1:04:03SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_03: Read it to us.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_12: So is it just I won't go into the whole details, but this is what she said.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_12: If I had to make a quick decision right now, I'd have to go with cousin Larry.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_11: I don't even know what the question was.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_12: What was the question?
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_10: What was the question?
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_12: No.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_03: No, that was the that was the the one we got.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_12: That was the one.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_12: Oh, that's hair slash metal ballad.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_03: And I picked uh warrant.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_12: And he picked it on Jovi.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_03: Alright.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_03: Is that all she wrote?
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_12: That's all she had time for.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_03: That's all she had time for.
- 1:04:59unknown: Yeah.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_03: Are you responding to her right now?
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_03: Perfect.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_03: So uh Cousin Larry wins this week.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_03: I'll be there if he was a great ballad.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, absolutely.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_03: Great hairband ballad, for sure.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_03: So.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_03: Um, okay.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_03: Now we are.

- 1:05:19SPEAKER_03: This is where I take off my headphones.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_03: Too scary.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_03: I climb the wall and I grab a C D and uh you try and guess who it is.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_03: Alright?
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_03: So here I go.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_03: You can look at my butt if you want to.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_03: Try and stop me.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_03: Nobody else does.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_12: I don't that.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_12: Shake what your mama gave you.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_03: You didn't see that, did you?
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_03: What?
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_03: The CD?
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_11: No, I wasn't.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_11: I was looking at your butt.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_11: Thanks.
- 1:05:51SPEAKER_11: That makes me feel good.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_12: This podcast is getting weirder.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_12: That's even possible.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_12: Is that O'Brien and Doug Laley?
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_12: Doug's looking at O'Brien's butt.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_12: Not sure what's going on down there.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_12: Oh shoot.
- 1:06:13SPEAKER_12: They call it the fun dungeon for a reason.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_11: All right.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_11: We put the fun in dungeon.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_11: Wait, there's no fun in dungeon.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_11: I know.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_11: We put the dun in dungeon.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_11: We put the dungeon in dungeon.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_10: Okay, I have an album.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_10: I have a guess.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_03: Possibly.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_03: Let the guessing begin.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_03: Is it a band?
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_10: Uh you need to look at it again?
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_10: No, I know.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_03: Uh uh is it a band?
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_10: Is it a dude that plays all the instruments?
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_03: No.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_03: Um it's a vocal group.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_03: It's not a band.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_12: It's a vocal group?
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_03: Like they don't play their instruments.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_03: Fifth dimension?
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_12: Like Fifth Dimension or something?
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_03: Um, well, no.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_03: I mean it's a group, it's a it's a you know how like the Backstreet Boys?
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_03: They're not a band.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_03: They're not a vocal group.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_12: Oh, I see.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_03: Is it the Backstreet Boys?
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_03: It's not.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_03: It's not.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_03: He just reminded me of.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_03: Have you ever seen that clip of Ryan Stiles and Colin Mockery?
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_03: What what what band um sounds like on a bird?
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_03: Uh a turn?
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_03: Turn?
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_03: What sound does a turn make?
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_07: Mockery Boys!
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_12: The bettdiest part of that clip is when Ryan Stiles loses it.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_12: He can't stop.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_12: He can't stop laughing.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_12: No.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_12: Of course, call it Mockery.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_12: He's he's the ultimate straight man.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_12: He just he's just looking at him like it's normal.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_12: Backstreet boys.

- 1:08:55SPEAKER_03: Nope.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_03: Nope.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_12: Are they motown?
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_03: That's a good question.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_03: I don't think they are Motown.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_03: I could be wrong, but I don't think they are.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_12: Well they're either Motown stacks or out of New York.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_03: I don't know what to say.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_03: Um, I was right, okay, so one of their members went out on his own and had a huge hit.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_03: That was the name of an 80s movie.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_12: Terminator?
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_12: I've never heard one, but I bet it's it's got a good terminator.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_12: He's gonna show up in lightning completely naked.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_12: Wash it tomorrow.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_12: Nothing clean.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_12: Nothing clean.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_12: Give me old pants.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_03: They were on Atlantic.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_12: Okay, so they were like Hermit Era of uh Erdogan.

- 1:10:52SPEAKER_03: Um It wasn't Dion.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_03: It wasn't Dion.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_12: It wasn't Frankie Valley.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_03: Nope.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_03: RB uh pop RB and Soul.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_12: There were so many.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_03: Um the second group, I guess there was a couple incarnations, formed in 1959 and were led by this guy that I was telling you about that movie broke off and had a huge hit.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_03: Um the name of an 80s uh movie, but it's also it's an eighties movie that was a Stephen King story.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_03: No, wasn't a horror wasn't a horror movie.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_12: Stand by me, Benny King!
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_03: Well, that's Benny King.
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_03: What's the group?
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_12: I can't think of the group.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_03: He was the lead singer.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_12: Yeah, you just said that, but I got to meet I can sing him.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_03: What if I gave you a song?
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_12: That might help, I don't know.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_03: At this point, Under the Boardwalk.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_12: Under the boardwalk.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_12: I know you do.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_12: I know.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I know you do.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_12: I know, I can I just not cover my brain.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_03: Uh let me give you another song.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_03: I can't get back in the group if I give you the first letter.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_03: D.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_12: D.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_03: We did an interview with a guy from a country group.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_03: Remember the interview with the guy?
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_12: Oh, the drifters.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_12: The drifters.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_12: Uh right now all I can think of is the dumbasses.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, these guys were a vocal group.
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_03: They weren't a they weren't a little bit.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_10: Oh, when the sun goes down and burns the top.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_03: Here's the album.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, maybe not.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_12: Ah, foul!
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_10: And your shoes get so hot.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_03: The drifters collection.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, nice.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_03: And you're right.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_03: Doo-op, right?
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_03: I mean it's very doo-op.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_10: Well yes and no.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because doo-wop would be more.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_03: Well, there'd be more doo-op.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_12: Well, there'd be more instrumentation with a voice.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_03: With the vocals, yeah.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_11: Under the boy.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_09: We'll be having some fun.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_09: Keep walking the bottom!
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_11: Under the ball up.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_00: We'll be making smoke.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_11: Under the ball up.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_03: Okay, so you got that, and you got this.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_03: This is save the last dance for me.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_03: And this is what I mean by innocent.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_00: You can smile.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_00: It just seems.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_03: Simpler times.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's just it's just very and it wasn't simpler times.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_12: No.
- 1:14:15SPEAKER_12: No, it was very, you know.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_12: Very complicated times, yes.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_12: But the music was just like very uplifting, very yeah, you know.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_03: Um, we got time because I want to do this.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_03: So this is on Broadway.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_09: They say the new lights are bright on Broadway.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_09: They say there's always magic in the air.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_09: But when you're walking down the street, and you ain't had enough to be the glitter of eye, and you're nowhere.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_03: Alright, I just want to just play a little bit of this.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_03: This is George Benson.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_03: This is his version of on Broadway.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_03: You're probably familiar with this one.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_03: All right, so I'm to play this one now.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_03: Let's see.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_03: Uh, we know this one.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_03: Now this would be more doo-up.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_03: Of course, this one.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_03: Classic stuff, man.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_12: I don't do stuff like this anymore.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_03: Would this have been would this have been the this magic moment?
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_03: Session players, who who would this have been?
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_03: Would this have been it'd been out of New York's home?
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_03: So not who we think.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_12: Yeah, it's not it's not the wrecking crew or you know.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_09: Alright, one more.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_09: And then it happened When this old world starts getting me down, and people are just too much for me to fade I climb way up to the top of the stair, and all my cares just drift right into space.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_03: Now I love this song.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_03: And one of those people that should be on the uh top 30 of American living songwriters did a great version of this.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_03: This is James Taylor.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_04: When this soul starts a getting me down, and people are just too much for me to face.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_03: No no I got I I was gonna end the podcast, but I have to add this one thing that I just saw on YouTube because it makes me sick.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_03: Um AI must be stopped.
- 1:19:05SPEAKER_03: AI must be stopped.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_03: Um there is an album by it's an AI remix by Manila Sun.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_03: Uh it says Huey Lewis and the News.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_03: Punch the clock.
- 1:19:27SPEAKER_03: It's an hour long.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_03: So it says Huey Lewis and the News inspired.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_03: 80s pop rock and blue-eyed soul.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_03: So somebody has taken uh just the um the aesthetic, the vibe, the sound of Huey Lewis and the news, and made some original music.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_03: Um I'm just curious.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_03: I want to hear what it sounds like.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_03: This is all AI.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_03: No, it doesn't, but it says Huey Lewis and the news inspired.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_12: Well, it does sound like that would be more that would be more pertinent if it wasn't like huge letters, Huey Lewis and the news.
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_12: Because everybody's gonna look at it and go, oh, Huey Lewis and the news have a new album.
- 1:20:36SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 1:20:52SPEAKER_03: Now I'm gonna go.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_03: Uh and some of these comments.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_03: Uh Goosebumps, so sad Huey couldn't perform anymore.
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_03: Sax and harmonica are awesome.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_03: Yes, yes, like it.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_03: It's fake, dude.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_12: I bet I bet they all went to Harvard.
- 1:21:11SPEAKER_12: It's not real.
- 1:21:14SPEAKER_03: But you know, this generation, they don't care.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_12: Well, they don't, they don't well, number one, they don't care.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_12: Number two, they don't know better.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_12: I mean, they they've grown up with music being made on a laptop.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_03: I remember I remember the uh there was an interview um we were talking they were talking about AI music.
- 1:21:32SPEAKER_03: I think we talked about it on the podcast actually, where they created an artist from scratch.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_03: Like a a visual, an image, and and pop song, and they took it out on the street and they let people hear it, and and they they said, I don't care if it's AI.
- 1:21:46SPEAKER_03: I think it sounds great.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_03: It's great.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_03: It's great.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_03: I would go see that person.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_03: Well, you can't.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_03: Well you can't, because they don't exist, moron.
- 1:21:52SPEAKER_03: Right, exactly.
- 1:21:53SPEAKER_03: So, you know it's just the state of the music that world that we're in, and it's just so sad.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_12: The further we get into the future, the more I want to go back to the past.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_12: I know, it's so true.
- 1:22:04SPEAKER_12: And you know, they always say don't live in the past, live in the now, and or or whatever.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_12: Well, that that may be true for some in some aspects, but music-wise, yeah.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_03: I think you're right.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_03: I think and it doesn't work.
- 1:22:15SPEAKER_03: And the other thing, uh, I told you that Eli's been listening to a lot of uh older music, right?
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_03: Well then this song comes on.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_03: I wish I could remember the name of the song.
- 1:22:25SPEAKER_03: It's a new song.
- 1:22:26SPEAKER_03: It's a it's a newer song, like of of this era.
- 1:22:29SPEAKER_03: Uh straight out of the 50s.
- 1:22:31SPEAKER_03: Straight out of the 50s.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_03: So I was like, what song is this?
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_03: And he told me, and I was like, you know, this is like 50s music.
- 1:22:36SPEAKER_03: He's like, Yeah, I know.
- 1:22:38SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_03: You know, so I mean there are pros to it.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_03: I guess you you know that that type of music won't ever die if people keep putting it out.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, keep making it and like you know, referencing it or paying tribute or homage to it.
- 1:22:54SPEAKER_03: Um but it's you're right.
- 1:22:56SPEAKER_03: I mean, we are living in the past as far as music is concerned.
- 1:22:59SPEAKER_03: We should be living in the past as far as music.
- 1:23:01SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I'm not.
- 1:23:01SPEAKER_12: I that's like I I've stopped caring about bands after like 2005.
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_12: So ten, maybe.
- 1:23:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_12: I just I just don't care.
- 1:23:12SPEAKER_12: Any these new artists coming out, I don't give a crap.
- 1:23:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:23:15SPEAKER_03: But you know, when we when we were younger, our parents were said the same thing.
- 1:23:20SPEAKER_12: Oh yeah.
- 1:23:21SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm sure.
- 1:23:21SPEAKER_12: I remember the first time dad saw Eddie Van Halen.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_12: This is crap.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_12: He can't even play guitar.
- 1:23:28SPEAKER_03: He didn't say that.
- 1:23:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he did.
- 1:23:29SPEAKER_12: He did?
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_03: You can't even play guitar?
- 1:23:31SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_12: This is not playing guitar.
- 1:23:33SPEAKER_03: Myrtle Haggard, that's playing guitar.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_12: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_12: Well, he never said anything.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_12: Because dad was big into the ventures.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_03: Oh wow, that's true.
- 1:23:40SPEAKER_12: You know, to him that was guitar, that was like the ep, you know, the apex of guitar playing.
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_12: And and uh no no question though.
- 1:23:46SPEAKER_03: I was like, yeah, yeah.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was great.
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_12: Uh it just took us a while to get there.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_12: Because we were, you know, at that age, we thought Eddie Van Halen is like it.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_12: As far as guitar playing.
- 1:23:58SPEAKER_12: And then we go back and we go, oh, well, this is good, this is good, this is good.
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_03: Now here's the thing, here's the thing.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_03: Uh do you think Eddie Van Halen could play adventure songs without sounding like Eddie Van Halen?
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_12: No.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_12: No.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_12: No, he'd he'd have to put his own Well, it's like when he did um that when he was in that um garage band thing.
- 1:24:18SPEAKER_12: Well, that the one didn't wasn't he playing with like a bunch like Tom Petty and all these guys?
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_03: It wasn't Tom Petty.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_03: I I'll be like, You know what I'm talking about?
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_12: They were playing like a blues song, and he just it you know, it was his turn to solo, and all he did was sound like he was doing a Van Halen song.
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:24:34SPEAKER_03: Um I can't remember what it was.
- 1:24:37SPEAKER_03: Uh Garage Band.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_03: Um I know exactly what you're talking about because I said the same thing.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_03: This is it right here.
- 1:24:44SPEAKER_03: Uh they're playing Gloria.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_03: Yes, that's what it was.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_03: Paul Shay Paul Shay on VH1.
- 1:24:50SPEAKER_03: L O R I A.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_03: Okay, so this is Richie Sambora is playing guitar.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_03: And I've actually said this uh to people.
- 1:25:01SPEAKER_03: I am a huge Eddie Van Halen fan, but he can't play and not sound like Eddie Van Halen.
- 1:25:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he can't.
- 1:25:07SPEAKER_03: Not that that's there's anything wrong with that, but you want to be versatile.
- 1:25:11SPEAKER_03: Richie Sambora plays a solo, and he doesn't sound like Richie Sambora.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_03: Well, I guess he does, but but he kind of sticks to the song.
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_12: He's playing with the song.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_12: Eddie just kind of does it.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_03: It doesn't fit.
- 1:25:21SPEAKER_03: No, it doesn't fit.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_03: All right, let's see.
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_03: John Mellicamp, I think, is singing.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_03: Brian Adams is on a guitar in the back.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_03: Max Weinberg from Bruce Springstones band is playing drums.
- 1:25:42SPEAKER_03: I think Steve Winwood is playing organ.
- 1:25:48SPEAKER_03: Well, that's Don Henley on drums.
- 1:25:52SPEAKER_03: So this is an old classic song.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_03: Let me see if I can just afford to.
- 1:26:58SPEAKER_03: You're probably right.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I you're right.
- 1:27:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, and I reference that every time.
- 1:27:06SPEAKER_03: I don't know how we got to talking about that, but that's okay.
- 1:27:09SPEAKER_10: It's a game of telephone.
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_10: What were we talking about?
- 1:27:11SPEAKER_10: I don't remember now.
- 1:27:12SPEAKER_10: What brought that on?
- 1:27:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, old music and yeah, old music, yeah.
- 1:27:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think.
- 1:27:16SPEAKER_03: Anyway.
- 1:27:17SPEAKER_12: But I mean, you know, back in the day, back in the day, I mean, you only had certain places that you went to to make music.
- 1:27:23SPEAKER_12: You had New York.
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_12: You for country was Nashville.
- 1:27:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:27:26SPEAKER_12: Then you had Stax in in Memphis, you had Motown up in Detroit, and then you had like Capital, you know, the wrecking crew out in California, in LA.
- 1:27:35SPEAKER_12: So I mean, that was only that was back in the day.
- 1:27:38SPEAKER_12: That's the only places you went.
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_12: So music, you know, kind of stayed the same-ish.
- 1:27:44SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 1:27:45SPEAKER_12: You know what I mean?
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_12: But now anybody can make music anywhere.
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_03: And it's yeah, and they shouldn't be sometimes.
- 1:27:51SPEAKER_12: A lot of there's a lot, I mean, there's a lot what was it?
- 1:27:53SPEAKER_12: Who was it?
- 1:27:54SPEAKER_12: Trent Reznor.
- 1:27:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:27:56SPEAKER_12: Trent Reznor is a great musician.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 1:27:59SPEAKER_12: A fantastic musician.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_12: He was like, the tools are out there for people to make music.
- 1:28:05SPEAKER_12: Is there more great music coming out?
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_12: Not really.
- 1:28:08SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:28:09SPEAKER_12: And I was like, dude, is absolutely correct.
- 1:28:12SPEAKER_12: I mean, the tools are out there that anybody, anybody can sit down and make a song.
- 1:28:15SPEAKER_12: Uh-huh.
- 1:28:16SPEAKER_12: But there's not there's not really great music coming out.
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_12: Because they don't know the craft.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_12: Yeah, they don't know how to make music.
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_03: They just there's a there's a good beat, they put a melody to it, and it's and it's there's there's more to it than that.
- 1:28:31SPEAKER_12: Yeah, there's way more to it.
- 1:28:32SPEAKER_12: I mean, if it doesn't have soul, then you know, there's you know why do it?
- 1:28:35SPEAKER_12: What's the point?
- 1:28:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:28:36SPEAKER_12: You know, you're just putting out you're just putting out poop.
- 1:28:43SPEAKER_03: That's the name of the podcast.
- 1:28:44SPEAKER_12: Putting out poop.
- 1:28:48SPEAKER_12: You're just a monkey at the zoo flinging your poop.
- 1:28:51SPEAKER_12: That's all you are.
- 1:28:54SPEAKER_03: I think we'll go with just a monkey at the zoo.
- 1:28:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:28:57SPEAKER_03: Not putting out poop.
- 1:28:59SPEAKER_12: Let's leave poop out of the title.
- 1:29:01SPEAKER_12: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:29:02SPEAKER_12: We'll be nice to the bus spout guys.
- 1:29:05SPEAKER_12: They're like, oh, good.
