- 0:03SPEAKER_00: This is the Mostly Football Show, a uniquely Australian take on the NFL and all things in the world of sport.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Over to you, Pete.
- 0:19SPEAKER_06: Good morning, good evening, good afternoon, wherever you are in the wild world.
- 0:23SPEAKER_06: Welcome to week six, season two of the mostly football show.
- 0:28SPEAKER_06: The Browns are no longer brown and flying high.
- 0:32SPEAKER_06: The Bears, Iceman, is back.
- 0:35SPEAKER_06: And the Packers invited Dallas for a weekly spanking at Lambeau Field.
- 0:40SPEAKER_06: I'm joined this week by Matt and the OG of OGs, uh Rowie, is here to join us to talk about all thing Raiders.
- 0:47SPEAKER_06: How are you doing, gentlemen?
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Very well, thank you.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Thank you for the invitation.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Uh it's good to be back.
- 0:55SPEAKER_02: Great to have you back, mate.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: It's a shame um it's a shame our Dallas cowboy uh isn't here to um to defend his team's miserable uh 2026-2027 season performance so far.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: But um we've got a more than uh capable man in off the practice squad.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: I've been called up for it.
- 1:19SPEAKER_06: I'll come come off the IR.
- 1:22SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 1:22SPEAKER_06: The medical tent and straight straight onto the uh on the first team.
- 1:26SPEAKER_06: Uh but gents, let's uh let's start with something a little bit bit serious this week before we get into the frivolity of the games.
- 1:33SPEAKER_06: Um Jalen Hurts is gonna be out for the rest of the year.
- 1:37SPEAKER_06: So reporting has it that he has uh blood clots on his lungs um and will be placed on blood thinners and and will miss the rest of the season.
- 1:47SPEAKER_06: Um if you're to believe the reports coming out, uh after travelling to London they discovered the blood clot in his lung, he was told not to go to sleep and so played the game in London after being awake for 36 hours straight.
- 2:04SPEAKER_06: Um put it to you guys, is that uh uh just a terrible duty of care from the Eagles and the NFL?
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: I'll jump in too.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, please do.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, dead A doesn't help, right?
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Get straight into it, exactly right.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah Matty seemed to be uh trying to find his words.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, of course it is.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: I mean I think it's out I think it's outrageous and it's uh yeah that that they have a responsibility to provide a uh uh um a safe and uh and uh harassment-free workplace, and you've got someone who's got blood clots.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: I saw some of the reporting that it was superficial uh blood clots.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: I don't know what that is.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: A blood clot's a blood clot.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: If it goes to your heart, um it becomes problematic.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: And then um and then you're right.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: They tell him to stay up, he plays a game, or he plays some of the game, and then um he gets on a plane.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: I mean I I I uh yeah, I don't I don't see I don't see how on on any level that is responsible.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: And um but also at the same time, um yeah, where's he where's he taking his own uh his own uh control of his own destiny in some respects?
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: I mean I would the UK have hospitals, uh they have pretty good ones.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Um he should have been straight in the hospital and on uh on blood thinners and yeah, but he's on blood thinners and he and he still plays.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Um he gets a hit the wrong way and he's um yeah, I don't know.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: I just don't see yeah, I don't see it.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: I don't see it sensible.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: I know they've I know they've got a lot of injuries and yeah, there was there's been a lot of talk again.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Some of the reporting is in in Philadelphia, people are questioning um his motivation, yeah, his kind of yeah, whether he's macho enough to be playing and he's he's a bit of a he's a bit of a softie, but you know, playing with blood clots in your legs and or your lungs um to show that you're uh you've got some um macho tendencies, I think is a bit overkill.
- 3:57SPEAKER_06: Yes, I I I I agree.
- 3:58SPEAKER_06: Matt Matt, uh what are you thinking?
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I saw uh statement from his um I mean the the first question that comes to my mind is you know, if he's on blood thinners, which he's reportedly on, this could be a bigger issue than um just missing a few weeks, right?
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: But um I saw a statement from his agent which says that they don't expect long-term effects and also a report that he practiced uh this week.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: Um but I think we could as easily ask the question of what does this mean for Nick Siriani?
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: The Eagles are now two and four.
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: This is an organization that is shrouded in um controversy and questionable decision making, both on and off the pitch.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: I would think that Siriani might be um fast hurdling towards um a potential trapdoor situation here.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: This season's not unfolding anywhere close to the way that the Eagles would have, I'm sure, hoped and thought it would have done.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Um and you know, this whole duty of care probably comes back, you know, first and foremost to the head coach making these decisions.
- 5:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 5:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you're you're absolutely right.
- 5:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 5:23SPEAKER_06: Um if you're an Eagles fan, then then you're gonna have to put up with a well, you may make a wild card now, I would think, but uh if you're gonna lose, the rest of your decision uh the division is is playing like a bunch of losers, so you might scrape in as as winners anyway.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh uh Pete that might be the saving grace for them, but but also I mean what what kind of list management is going on if if if you have to travel to London, okay.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Uh and then yeah, you're having to force your QB1 to play um under those kind of conditions.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: I mean it's it's it seems to me, you know, smell a little um I agree with Matt, sells a little bit of desperation.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Um and you're reading too many newspaper articles and not enough um not enough actually speaking to the to the players and saying, hey, what's going on?
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: I I I I I did scan Australian pressure if if Jordan had said anything about it.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, none of these there was nothing from Mayata or about what was going on either.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, none of these um none of these signs point to this being an organization that is stable, solid, and trending in the right direction.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: So um, yeah, if I was an Eagles fan, I would be rather concerned about a number of factors here, not just the health of my quarterback and you know whether he's got superficial blood clots and you know what that means.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: I think there's there's a lot more um at play here than than you know just that.
- 6:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 6:54SPEAKER_06: Agreed.
- 6:55SPEAKER_06: Well, uh let's keep the bad news rolling then.
- 6:57SPEAKER_06: I want to wind the the clock back uh one whole year with the uh Indianapolis Colts flying high at 6-0 and it fast heading to 7-0.
- 7:06SPEAKER_06: Um GM Chris Ballard was shown the door um this week by uh uh Carly Ursay Gordon.
- 7:13SPEAKER_06: She decided not to wait until the end of the season.
- 7:15SPEAKER_06: Um and GM uh Ed Dodge will oversee the personnel department while the Colts search for his replacement.
- 7:22SPEAKER_06: Um uh is this a knee-jerk reaction or uh given their record from the last calendar year from when they were seven and oh, it is it justified that he's he's been moved on?
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Um my you guys might be able to help me out here.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: Is this the lady owner who has been taking notes on the side light?
- 7:42SPEAKER_06: Yes, yes.
- 7:43SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, again, um optics of this one don't look great.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: Um obviously the Colts record is also to inform, probably support some questions and analysis of the performance of the head coach and the GM and other front office um um personnel.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: But um yeah, I think um this came in so soon after the American press and TV made such a big deal about her wandering around.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: And I think she said she was asking questions and learning, but it it it clearly that wasn't the case.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: So um yeah, I would ask uh I would ask uh look forward and ask a a downstream question of how confident are you, Peter Thompson or Adam Rowe, if you are appointed as the next general manager or head coach of the Indianapolis coat uh Colts that you're gonna be allowed to do your job without, you know, dare I say, some Jerry Jones-like interference?
- 8:45SPEAKER_06: Well, that's a that's a really good question, uh Matt.
- 8:48SPEAKER_06: I I mean I think you you probably get a free pass this year.
- 8:51SPEAKER_06: I think the Jaguars are gonna run away with that division.
- 8:54SPEAKER_06: I know they lost over the weekend, but I think they're gonna take that division quite comfortably.
- 8:59SPEAKER_06: But again, i i below that, you know, we're expecting the uh AFC North to be a pile of shit, but it turns out the AFC South is uh uh has picked has picked up the mantle and said, hold our beer, with the Titans, the Texans, and the Colts being absolutely appalling this year.
- 9:16SPEAKER_06: So I I would say you'd be relatively confident you've got a job till the end of the season.
- 9:20SPEAKER_06: Um it would be how does next season start?
- 9:22SPEAKER_06: But as a Colts fan, you you want some positive noises through the through the offseason because you know you've already written off this season by by get rid of your jam, I would have thought.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, but they've got they've got problems across the park.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, you've got Daniel Jones at at quarterback.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, he doesn't uh doesn't excite you know bring people through the crowd.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I know I threw the turnstiles on a the coach uh after the game was asked about it and said everyone needed to be better and he needed to be better and he needs to be playing at a high high uh a high consistency to keep his job.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: So that doesn't sound like a really ringing endorsement, but um yeah, I mean they're just awful to watch and awful to support at the moment.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I feel sorry for their supporters, but yeah, what a what a waste.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: But but I think that that division still has a couple of surprises, I think.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: I mean the Jags are still good.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Trevor Lawrence is a is a rock star.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: And um and CJ Stroud um finally got out of his mojo and uh or got his mojo.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: And I thought they played I thought I think they played exceptionally well on the weekend.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: So and yeah, we want you know the Jags, I think we're unfortunate to lose that, and probably some better management and uh and uh and a um and uh interception.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: It might have gone a different way, but then Stroud comes out, throws his own interception, and then they have a uh yeah, we have the um we have the end of the game in in uh yeah at Wembley.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: But I think you know the Hu Houston is a Houston is a good team both sides of the ball.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: And um, yeah, I mean that they would they their their record doesn't kind of probably give the s the full story, but that's what it is.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: And then yeah, I think that you know the Jaguars uh are a good team again, but yeah, who's who wants to support them?
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: But yeah, with Trevor Lawrence and uh hey, I'd have him.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Um uh yeah, so I think yeah, I think there are teams that that are gonna continue to kind of win one, win two, win three, maybe then lose one, but they're gonna kind of be that kind of middling, whether it'd be yeah eight and nine or nine and eight or something like that.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: And that yeah, you're right, Pete, they might scrape in.
- 11:29SPEAKER_06: Um well looked like I'm gonna pick up something you said there about having Trevor Lawrence.
- 11:36SPEAKER_06: Um we we've not really talked about the Raiders for the last uh couple of weeks, but uh as a Raiders fan, you you would be happy three and three.
- 11:44SPEAKER_06: Would you really uh take Mr.
- 11:46SPEAKER_06: Roy Rogers off the ball uh and uh bring in Trevor Lawrence at the moment?
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Mate, 100%.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Oh no, no, sorry, 100%.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: I I would keep I would keep Kirk Cousins.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, he's a bit kind of milk toast, as they say, in in the States.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: I don't fully understand that that terminology.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: I don't think I've ever had milk toast, but um yeah, ever since you know watching him on that quarterback show, yeah, my wife thinks he's a nice guy.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, I think his move to Atlanta was ill-fated.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Um but him coming, you know, I was like rolling my eyes and saying, yeah, this is gonna be a joke.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: But um yeah, I think three and three after six, and as we were saying earlier before the show, Pete, three and three after six, and three of those games are the Chiefs, the Patriots, and and the Bills, and we're still three and three, and we've we lost in the last play Um in both games to the Bills and the Chiefs.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty oh no, yeah, well, yeah, well, okay, the Bills, the Chiefs, yes.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: Bills, it was a bit of a it was a still a bit of junk time, but still an onside kick.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: He could have gone our way.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Um, but three and three.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Um we haven't exposed Mendoza to getting his ass kicked like like some other first round um first round picks get.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: Um the concern I have is another first rounder, and that's and that's uh and that's genty.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: We can't get any of it going on the ground, um, so we become a bit one one dimensional.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: But um, you know, hey, the yeah, the wideouts are going fantastically.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: What's uh what's the young gentleman?
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: I did so I did some research.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Trey Tucker, oh my god, um where's he been?
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: Um and you've got and you've got my mate Max Um seemingly seemingly well welcome back with open arms and everything's cool.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: And yes, I suppose it's an example of you know everything's kind of gets gets a lot sweeter when you're winning.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: Um you're certainly not getting your ass kicked like like we did last year.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: So yeah, three and three after six, we got rid of two we got rid of two big names.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then Josh Allen is is is the rock star of rock stars.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, and what he did on the weekend was fantastic and great, good on him.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Um, but I think we could probably be very happy with both those results, and the only junk game of of all six has been um has been the has been the Pats.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: And hey, we just didn't we just didn't see we just didn't man up at the at the right time.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: So yeah, Pete, very happy.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: Um I think there's a lot of like there should be a lot of reasons to be hopeful, um, particularly if we can keep those guys on the on the park.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: As I say, we need Genty to do something, uh, and yeah, whether that's not playing the right um the right type of uh offense for him or if he's just not in the not in the right funk.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: But um, yeah, if we could get a there's even a little bit of a run game um going, that would certainly help.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: And that actually's more accentuated the need because we've got yeah Kirk Cousins who is becoming less and less mobile as as games go because of his because of his Achilles heel and just his age.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: But boy, you can still throw that that um the uh the the the throw in the in the dying stages um for the touchdown was was as good as you would have seen across the weekend.
- 14:59SPEAKER_06: I I agree.
- 15:00SPEAKER_06: Uh uh I mean it's always good to see a healthy Raiders team.
- 15:03SPEAKER_06: So let's uh let's talk about another number one pick who came back for the the the the Bears this week.
- 15:09SPEAKER_06: Um glad to have him back, Matt?
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, very glad to have him back.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: I mean, um I think we've said a number of times over the course of this series the Bears go as Caleb and um Ben Johnson go.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: Um he had himself a bit of an afternoon.
- 15:27SPEAKER_02: I think he um he completed 26 of 31 or 26 of 32.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: Um he looked tidy, he looked mobile with a completely different team under him, and obviously I think that's ability and the belief and confidence that the rest of the players have in him.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: Um I did just about squeeze in a quick review of the highlights.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: He seemed to move the ball well, he was under centre, which is great, not operating out of the gun.
- 15:59SPEAKER_02: Um Luther Burden and Roma Dunze seem to have stepped up, but it you know, he's got that very, very solid offensive line, and I think now we've we've got Caleb back, we'll start to see, you know, materially what the real Bears are like.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: The last few weeks have been firefighting and um you know, next man up if you like.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: But um yeah, I I was super impressed with um, I mean, the game was in Atlanta, but it it sounded and looked like a Bears home game.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: Um we you know we're obviously missing Coleman on guy and Montez Sweat is out suspended for um performance enhancing drugs.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Our defense looked as um as I thought it would, particularly with BJM Robinson being such a threat.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: Um scared the life out of me every time the ball was in his hands.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: But we you know we went back to that Bears defense of of last year.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: We we conceded yards, but we turned the ball over a lot.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: Um so um our takeaways were positive.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: That's not that's been something that's been missing a little bit.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: So yeah, delighted.
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: And you know, back to four and two, that's a super tough division, the north.
- 17:12SPEAKER_02: So I think you have to keep accumulating wins in games that you're favoured in um to keep up with the um with with the rest of the uh teams in that division.
- 17:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, look absolutely.
- 17:25SPEAKER_06: I I've watched the game.
- 17:26SPEAKER_06: I thought um that they were entirely a different proposition with with Williams uh running the game.
- 17:33SPEAKER_06: Um I still don't think they're the finished article though, Matt.
- 17:38SPEAKER_06: I think if they'd have been playing somebody better than the Falcons, and I say that because the Falcons absolutely gave Green Bay hiding a few weeks ago, um had they been playing maybe the the 49ers or the Seahawks, or as they're doing the brother the Patriots coming up this week, um it'll be interesting to see how they handle all of that.
- 18:02SPEAKER_06: But uh they certainly looked a lot more threatening than they did against the Packers.
- 18:06SPEAKER_06: Um so so so let me let me uh wax lyrical about the Packers for a little bit.
- 18:11SPEAKER_06: I I'm not jumping on the hype wagon about the Packers are back, they're you know heading towards Super Bowl or anything like that um just yet.
- 18:19SPEAKER_06: What they have shown is they're they're now starting to adapt to to realising they don't have a running game.
- 18:25SPEAKER_06: Um however, having said that, Joss Jacobs was removed from the exemption list uh yesterday and will be training all week and we'll be able to start uh against Detroit on uh Monday morning.
- 18:40SPEAKER_06: Now this is a tough one for me because we lack running.
- 18:46SPEAKER_06: We really lack a running game.
- 18:49SPEAKER_06: But he's not a nice human being.
- 18:55SPEAKER_06: And that and that makes it tough.
- 18:57SPEAKER_06: You know, you you're you're trying to suppress a video so people can't see how bad it was.
- 19:02SPEAKER_06: That means that there's something in there you don't want people to see.
- 19:05SPEAKER_06: Uh I really want Green Bay to establish a running game.
- 19:10SPEAKER_06: Uh Marshall Lloyd, that's not it.
- 19:12SPEAKER_06: Josh Shakers may be the answer, but it comes with a tinge of uh do I really want to be on a team that uh allows people like that uh to play for them.
- 19:23SPEAKER_06: So we we'll see.
- 19:25SPEAKER_06: We'll see.
- 19:25SPEAKER_06: Hopefully I won't change my tune if he runs for 200 yards against the Lions on Sunday.
- 19:29SPEAKER_06: Uh Jordan Love was spectacular.
- 19:32SPEAKER_06: Um Matthew Gower dropped uh two touchdown passes.
- 19:37SPEAKER_06: Uh Christian Watson dropped one.
- 19:39SPEAKER_06: Um had uh had they all connected um then uh Kerry wouldn't would uh really be suffering today because it would have been a 50-point game rather than uh a 30-point one.
- 19:50SPEAKER_06: But but more than anything else, I was impressed with the defence.
- 19:53SPEAKER_06: The defence looked like they've come to play.
- 19:56SPEAKER_06: Um I think the game against New Orleans, where B.
- 19:58SPEAKER_06: Jan Robinson just, you know, if he gave him the ball, he ran up the other end and scored.
- 20:02SPEAKER_06: Gave him a real wake-up call.
- 20:04SPEAKER_06: Offensive line is starting to click, and and and Jordan loves finding his passing boots.
- 20:09SPEAKER_06: Now, if we can get a win, and it will be tough at the Lions uh on Monday morning, you get a win in there, they've got to start thinking about how do we over start overturning the Vikings.
- 20:20SPEAKER_06: Because the Vikings are not playing good football.
- 20:22SPEAKER_06: Um they're just defending the hell out of it as well.
- 20:25SPEAKER_06: So um gonna be an interesting week upcoming.
- 20:29SPEAKER_06: Um Rowie, you seem to be agreeing with me.
- 20:31SPEAKER_06: Uh uh are you uh impressed with Jordan Love?
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, I know I think Jordan Love's playing well.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, that might be that might be papering over some of your cracks, but um again, the game is is so centred around having uh yeah, having a even a consistent uh quarterback, and I think Jordan Love is well in excess with being a consistent quarterback, and I think he uh yeah, he's showing the promise that everyone uh understands he had.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: And I think I think you're right.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Again, a bit like my Raiders, you you don't have you don't have the quite quality, and I'm glad we got rid of Jacob.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: So um just kind of kick him down the kick him down the road, guys.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Um I agree, yeah.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: Just get rid of it.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: Um same as same as the guy that was that spat on uh someone um uh during the weekend.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: So yeah, see later.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, but I think yeah, the the packers are there, but I uh but I probably agree more heartily with your comments about the the Vikings.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: They're kind of they're obviously playing under the radar, but you know, they they have nothing at quarterback if you've if you think Kyler Murray is their is uh is uh is their um is their uh uh future.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: But you're right, they're just kind of beating people up and saying fine, almost the opposite of what Dallas or those or the Limes are are trying to do.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: It's like we don't have a we don't have an offence that we trust, but we we sure do have a defence, and you try and beat us um uh by scoring.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: And I think they say, hey, not in our house.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: And yeah, and push back.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: So I think that's the other facet of the game, which is opposite to, as I say, some of the bigger teams who want to go for sure for for for yeah.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Sling them out and see what happens.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:15SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 22:16SPEAKER_06: Now let's talk about uh ex uh Vikings quarterbacks because one ex-Viking quarterback sent set a new NFL record this week.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:28SPEAKER_06: Do we do we do we have 34 yards in 11 minutes?
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but do we put much much fuss in that Pete?
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: I mean it's it's gonna force is that gonna force him back into people's reckoning as uh someone who was uh who was a consistent you know I know there were some reports about if he stayed in there he's gonna make a thousand yards, but I mean yeah.
- 22:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 22:49SPEAKER_06: Well well uh let's look at it from the other side, right?
- 22:52SPEAKER_06: 234 yards in a losing game, but 234 yards in eleven minutes is still quite a phenomenal achievement.
- 22:59SPEAKER_06: Uh we touched on this last week about JJ McCarthy first.
- 23:03SPEAKER_06: That's who we're referring to.
- 23:04SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 23:05SPEAKER_06: I think he now has a massive opportunity um at the Giants to show he's a better quarterback than the Vikings gave him credit for.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: I agree, but um he's up against yeah, and Jameson Winston.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, are we really uh yeah, in a in a in a yeah in a poor Giants team?
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: Um so you're right.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: Hey, get out there and swing.
- 23:34SPEAKER_06: Hard on, let's let's let's wind that back because one of us on this podcast was was uh tipping the Giants to be the uh surprise package of the year.
- 23:43SPEAKER_06: I think that yeah, I think the Giants, well they're too they're top of the league at the minute.
- 23:49SPEAKER_06: So so they're took the top of the NFC East for 3-2-1, um uh followed by the Eagles, the Cowboys, and then the commanders, so again, best of a bad job.
- 23:58SPEAKER_06: But they drafted well.
- 24:01SPEAKER_06: Uh uh, forget Jackson Dark's uh politics.
- 24:04SPEAKER_06: I thought this was prime for him to be a breakout year, and it was proving that way until he got himself injured.
- 24:10SPEAKER_06: All right, um and I think with a decent quarterback and JJ McCarthy's got a point to prove, if he can stop the interceptions, then the opportunity is here for him.
- 24:20SPEAKER_06: They've got a great schedule.
- 24:22SPEAKER_06: Um the Eagles, the Cowboys, and the commanders are all in free fall at the minute.
- 24:27SPEAKER_06: Um why not?
- 24:29SPEAKER_06: Why not be that uh take that opportunity, take the ball with the Hawks?
- 24:33SPEAKER_06: I I think you'll see the Giants in the playoffs this year.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: I'm not buying.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Um, but um they got you got you got you got Scatterbo takes takes two take is in for two plays.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: Um what's going on there?
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Um the coach says he's trying to find um yeah, Harbaugh's trying to say he's trying to find the best the best mix, and and then someone throws a microphone in Scatterbow's face and he says, No, I was benched.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: So um there's got to be some little bit of dissent there.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: And Harbor's got a reputation of being a bit of a hard taskmaster.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Um, but you're right, their division is is kind of struggling.
- 25:11SPEAKER_01: You know, I I made a I I did make a uh uh an error in relation to the games before.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, if Philadelphia are playing at home, which makes which makes the loss even worse.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: Um, but um you've got the Philadelphia who got their own issues, you've got the Cowboys who can't defend um a milk truck.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Um, and then yeah, Washington obviously is going through the same injury industry in injury issues.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: So yeah, okay.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: And they might fall over the line as being the worst of the but the best of the worst bunch, but I wouldn't be paying against either them.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, but yeah, but then on the flip side you've got the a team which everyone writes off like Carolina, who have playing great football.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: So it's an unusual, it's an unusual dynamic at the moment, mate.
- 25:54SPEAKER_02: Well Yeah, but sorry, mate, you go, you go, but I was just gonna say the Giants are 3-2-1, and their three wins have come against the Jets, the Titans and the Cardinals.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: Their tie came against the Commanders, and they've lost in really bad terms.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they've lost to the Saints and the Rams, and the Rams are two and four as well.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: So you know, I know you can only beat the teams that are in front of you, but I don't really think they've been tested too much.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: Um sorry, they beat the Cowboys as well.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: Um uh but um yeah, I think um I think um I still think it's theirs to lose the division.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I just think it's one of the worst divisions in the in the NFL.
- 26:45SPEAKER_02: And as we've said, you know, it's just sitting there waiting for somebody to take it by the scruff of the neck.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: And uh I'm quite pleased for JJ McCarthy.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: I I think it was a bit rough on him the way the Vikings just dropped him um like a hot potato.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: But um yeah, I um I didn't I didn't see the um Giants trusting Jameis Wilson long term, and um you know McCarthy's got the rest of the season, it would appear to stake his claim on the starting role.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: He's probably gonna be you know punted into the backup role um when Jackson Dart comes back, but if he plays well the rest of this season, he presents himself as a potential um candidate for another team who are also struggling with quarterback woes.
- 27:38SPEAKER_06: Well, yeah, yeah, uh and I think I think you're absolutely right.
- 27:41SPEAKER_06: Uh I mean Miami and the Malik Willis experience doesn't seem to be going too well.
- 27:46SPEAKER_06: So, so um you know they had two of a number of years.
- 27:49SPEAKER_06: Uh Malik Willis is is a solid quarterback, but he's probably a solid backup quarterback rather than the starting quarterback.
- 27:56SPEAKER_06: So it'll be interesting to see how they finish the year.
- 27:58SPEAKER_06: But you touched on the Rams there, um Matt.
- 28:02SPEAKER_06: Now uh my question is are the Rams the unluckiest team in the NFL, or are they just the least prepared team in the NFL?
- 28:11SPEAKER_06: Um I say that because uh this week you can call them unlucky, you can call them prepared.
- 28:16SPEAKER_06: They sacked the kicker.
- 28:19SPEAKER_06: Their new kicker was injured uh after the first play of the game after trying to make a tackle, and they used a punter to kick the extra points and field goals from there on in.
- 28:29SPEAKER_06: So are they unlucky, or have they just been poorly prepared for this season?
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we question their approach to the game in Melbourne, and it doesn't really feel as though they've established themselves as that um, you know, NFL best, or anything close to being that NFL best team.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: We all discussed the fact that we found that, you know, the way they approach that week one game as as puzzling, and um yeah, I I'm not really sure if they're unlucky or underprepared, or it's just a plain old simple case of their underperforming as a group, but uh again, I would guess that um they're getting close to having some serious questions asked within that organisation.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: And I'm I'm sure McVeigh isn't on the hot seat, but um somebody's got to be accountable, and they are running out of time.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: If you go two and five after week seven, um that's a long, long way back in a division as tough as the NFC West.
- 29:38SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 29:40SPEAKER_06: So so they're not scoring points like we expected them to.
- 29:44SPEAKER_06: Uh uh with given their their um their quarterback and their wide receivers.
- 29:50SPEAKER_06: Devontae Adams is now out um f for five to seven weeks with a with an injury.
- 29:56SPEAKER_06: So so one of their main contact.
- 29:59SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 30:00SPEAKER_06: Well, I always hate saying that.
- 30:02SPEAKER_06: Um but you know, we were ex I mean Matt Matt, uh we'll come back to this over and over again, how how uh how joyous you were about the the Rams in our predictions um uh episode where where basically you predicted them to take over the world and win the universe.
- 30:21SPEAKER_06: But uh but uh for me it's just been I I don't know if Matthew Stafford's off it this year or or what it is, but it lost to the bloody cardinals.
- 30:31SPEAKER_06: The cardinals, the birdshit cardinals.
- 30:34SPEAKER_06: Come on, what's next?
- 30:37SPEAKER_06: What's next?
- 30:37SPEAKER_06: Well I can tell you what's next.
- 30:39SPEAKER_06: The Raiders are next.
- 30:43SPEAKER_06: Come on.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: But you're right, they are, but uh but that's yeah.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but uh, injury is the part and parcel, sorry Adam, injury is a part and parcel of the NFL, and we see every team have them and um approach how you know we talk a lot about the next man up, but um yeah, it's just something that I'm certain every team has an expectation is gonna happen.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: You just hope it doesn't happen to keep key players.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Um you know uh Donald has been out, uh Miles Garrett has been out.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: Um they have you know they have struggled a little bit.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: We talked about the Devontae uh Adams injury, but it's how you you know how you bridge that gap and um fill the void left by those injured players, and clearly the Rams are not doing a good enough job at the moment.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: So um yeah, it it it it's it's not that they've been faced in super tough competition, they've obviously faced the the Seahawks and the 49ers, but you have to win games against the Cardinals in that in the NFC West.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: You just have to find a way to win, even if you were you know missing key starters, and that's just to me, not not just this season, but the season before, you know, we could go back three or four years.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: This is most un-Rams-like.
- 32:13SPEAKER_02: So, you know, perhaps there's something else going on there that we're not aware of, um, because this just isn't in the DNA, the recent DNA that we have seen from this team over the last four or five years.
- 32:26SPEAKER_06: Well, uh Marles Garrett's been injured, and um I don't think Aaron Donald's on it as much as he was two years ago, right?
- 32:32SPEAKER_06: It's a it's a big arse to come back from retirement for two years to to get things done.
- 32:37SPEAKER_06: Um they are playing the Raiders this week.
- 32:40SPEAKER_06: Uh, just to give you some kind of uh comparison, the Raiders are averaging 32 points a game right now.
- 32:48SPEAKER_06: Thirty-two points a game, and the Rams um are not.
- 32:54SPEAKER_06: Like I say, the the the Rams have scored only scored 130, so they're only averaging 22 points as well.
- 33:00SPEAKER_06: So that's a ten point differential in favour of the Raiders.
- 33:03SPEAKER_06: Their defence hasn't been up to much, their offense hasn't been up to much.
- 33:07SPEAKER_06: Um I don't know about you, Roe, but I'm sniffing an upset this week.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: Is it an upset or is it is it a is it uh is it a solid win?
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: Three bloody wins in a season, and he's already too overconfident after last after last season.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: I I I just going back to the game really quickly, I think it's it is sweet irony that that the Rams get beat by a poor Cardinals team, but they get beat by yeah, by the Cardinals kicking six field goals um in a game where where their where their player where their uh kicker goes down and they have to use the punter.
- 33:41SPEAKER_01: So I think that's just uh yeah, karma, karma can sometimes be a bitch.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: Mate, of course, mate.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm uh I'm high on the raiders.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: I think Cousins, again, if Cousins plays to his potential um with with Crosby, um, I think the front line is doing exactly what they asked for.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: I think um they're being well coached, which obviously was which was wrong last year and probably the yeah, probably for the last decade.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Um and you've got I think you've got people who are buying into it now.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Um as I say, you know, it all thing I think it some of the emotional you know uh power comes from someone like like Crosby.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: So if he's back in if he's back in the fold and fully committed, uh and you've got um you've got uh your Bowers back um plus um I forget the other guy, uh the other tight ends.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: So we're playing a you know a two tight end two tight end uh offense um with Tucker um yeah catching catching the lights out.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: And um yeah, I think um uh again if we can just get Denty to even even get to a hundred um with some sort of run, uh that yeah, that's gonna help us.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: And I think I think we're gonna have too much for uh for a really d demoralised and a really kind of probably a defunct ranch at the moment.
- 34:58SPEAKER_06: I I I agree.
- 34:59SPEAKER_06: Uh and uh looking forward to the game.
- 35:01SPEAKER_06: I think it might be the game on Friday morning.
- 35:04SPEAKER_06: Um is well uh uh I'll I'll try and work that out.
- 35:09SPEAKER_06: I'll need to check.
- 35:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'll need to check.
- 35:11SPEAKER_06: Oh no, no, fry Friday morning is the Bears and the Patriots.
- 35:15SPEAKER_06: So um which is gonna be interesting because because despite me saying the Patriots won't make the playoffs, um Drake May has decided to start throwing like he's a Super Bowl quarterback the last couple of weeks.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: He's turned it around, hasn't he, Pete?
- 35:28SPEAKER_06: That will be a good game, yeah.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think um I mean they're they're always the kind of a team aroundabouts.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Um they probably haven't got the same favourable draw that they did last year, but uh yeah.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: I mean May has kind of woken up, if you can say that.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: And I think yeah, they're gonna play um they're gonna play well.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: But I think um I think might Matt might take the take the chocolates there.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: I think the I think the combination of Well, I think so.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: The combination of Caleb and Ben Johnson is exciting to watch.
- 35:56SPEAKER_01: And uh I know there's a reason you haven't been on here for a while.
- 36:02SPEAKER_06: I can Oh come on.
- 36:06SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 36:07SPEAKER_06: So so come on then, Matt.
- 36:09SPEAKER_06: You you're you're normally uh uh level-headed.
- 36:11SPEAKER_06: What's your thoughts about uh the New England Patriots and Chicago Bears on Friday morning?
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: Uh the Bears are at Soldier Field, I think we'll win narrowly.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: Um uh TAB have the Bears as a$1.62 favourite, which is shorter odds than I I would have thought.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: Um, but I think getting Caleb back, and we talked last week, I think, Pete, speculating whether Caleb would play against um the Falcons, and I you know I I thought that they would throw him in because putting him in against the Patriots is his first game back would have been a different proposition.
- 36:49SPEAKER_02: I think we've seen enough from Caleb last week to know that he's very close to firing on all cylinders again if he's not.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: Um I think the Bears would be strong at home.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: It's uh Thursday night football, national TV audience.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: Um Johnson will have some tricks in his kit bag, and um I'm here for every moment of it.
- 37:16SPEAKER_06: Well, it's good to see you still positive.
- 37:18SPEAKER_06: Um I look, I I hope you beat New England.
- 37:21SPEAKER_06: Um I'm just getting worried that the Minnesota Viking schedule is gonna get the the better of uh everyone in the NFC North because they have the Indianapolis Colts.
- 37:32SPEAKER_06: So they should be six 6-0 by the time uh uh we talk next week.
- 37:38SPEAKER_06: So we'll we'll see how that goes.
- 37:40SPEAKER_06: Other big games uh this this coming week.
- 37:44SPEAKER_06: Uh I'll be quiet and let you guys talk about uh the Lions and the Packers.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Is it a big game?
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Come on, Pete.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: You still don't have you still don't have passes back yet, do you?
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: So um so you're gonna be a little bit down on defence, but I think you're gonna have you're gonna have as more defence than than the Lions are.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, does it put does it put Dan Campbell under some sort of pressure?
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: Um I think unfairly probably yes.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: Um if they don't if they don't if they don't start performing the way that everyone wants them to.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: Everyone kind of feels that that's their second team, but I think Green Pay, you know, you you are you're coming good at the right time.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: Um if love plays like you did on the weekend, Peter, I don't think you're gonna have I yeah, I don't think you're gonna have um not to say it's gonna be a walkov, um, but certainly I think you're gonna have more on both sides of the ball than than than uh than the Lions might have at the moment.
- 38:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, look, I think if we can stop Jamar Gibbs, I think we're we're in with a a shout.
- 38:57SPEAKER_06: It's it's gonna be interesting that Detroit Lions have scored 164 points through five games this season.
- 39:03SPEAKER_06: Um and so stopping them scoring is is gonna be the hard hard piece because the Packers have only scored 120 points.
- 39:10SPEAKER_06: So But but Peter, how many how much have they allowed?
- 39:14SPEAKER_06: Well, there is that, and uh and and that's a that's a really good point because if you look at some of the low-scoring teams, um so teams that have averaged under 20 points a game, Minnesota Vikings have only scored 190 109 points this season and sit at 5-0.
- 39:32SPEAKER_06: The the Cleveland Browns have only scored 106 points this season and they sit at 4-2.
- 39:38SPEAKER_06: The Denver Broncos have only scored 114 and they sit um coming to the top.
- 39:43SPEAKER_06: So if you look, the the bottom three teams are in points scored are the Dolphins, the Titans, and the Chargers.
- 39:49SPEAKER_06: So you kind of take that with the territory they're in.
- 39:52SPEAKER_06: But then above them is the Browns, the Eagles, the Vikings, the Broncos, the Bucks.
- 39:58SPEAKER_06: So so good defense is starting to see what wins games, I think, rather than anything else.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I and I I yeah, if you can't, it's a high I think it's a high risk strategy, but some people obviously do it.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: I think it's a really high risk strategy to say I you score 35, I'll score 36.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: Um, that's great.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: Uh if you have if you have some rock stars on your team, you like uh I would say a Josh Allen or uh Patrick Mahomes, but um yeah, is Jared Goff that kind of player?
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: He can when everyone's firing, but you need to be you need to trust that everyone's gonna fire at once.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: And um yeah, I don't think you can sustain that over 17 weeks.
- 40:38SPEAKER_06: Well, uh I tell you, if if we get the penalties called against us, that the roughing the passer that we had against, you know, when that stiff breeze blew over Dak Prescott um just as we made an interception, then it's gonna be a long old night, I can tell you that.
- 40:52SPEAKER_06: Um game game of the week next week.
- 40:54SPEAKER_06: We'll probably come up in the refs later because they're having a shocker this season.
- 40:57SPEAKER_06: Game of the week, I think, yeah, is gonna be um Sunday night football, um where the Seattle Seahawks take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Lumen Field.
- 41:07SPEAKER_06: Uh Matt, would you like to pick a winner out of those two?
- 41:13SPEAKER_02: Um I think the Chiefs win.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean it it it it feels very strange to to pick against the Seahawks, particularly when they're playing at home, but um they're not having things their way this year.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: Um I think they're missing some key players, notably one of which left them to join the team that they're going to be facing off against.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: Um I uh I think I've got a bit of a fancy for the Chiefs to take this one out.
- 41:52SPEAKER_06: And what a season he's having, by the way.
- 41:56SPEAKER_06: Barely heard of until the he won the Super Bowl MVP and um uh I think he's turned the Chiefs into a into a horrible threatening team.
- 42:09SPEAKER_06: Um It reminds me a little bit of Marshall Falk for for those people who can remember back in the day, whereas if he's not given the ball to run with, he's throwing it in the back in the in the backfield and then tearing you up that way as well.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I agree.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: I think it's they've added an extra dynamic that they haven't had for a little while, and that makes them even more dangerous, which is yeah, every oh breaking news, everybody.
- 42:36SPEAKER_06: Um, after being accused of all kinds of shenanigans, we are joined.
- 42:41SPEAKER_06: Which is all true.
- 42:42SPEAKER_06: Which is all true.
- 42:43SPEAKER_06: We have been joined late in the podcast uh by the lovely KG who's here to take his ass whipping from the defeat that Dallas had to Greenway at the weekend.
- 42:52SPEAKER_06: Thank you for fronting up, Kerry.
- 42:54SPEAKER_06: What do you got to say for yourself?
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: Uh I am just um I'm I'm ready to take my medicine, right?
- 43:00SPEAKER_03: That's that's all it is.
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: And I know that on one week you hate football, and on other weeks you love football, and it's because you um you've really handled Dallas, and I get it.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: So I I take it, I take it full, and it's it's disappointing, but it it's it's like we talked about at the beginning.
- 43:21SPEAKER_03: We'll finish middle of the road, no matter what everybody uh, you know, all the hype, all that, you know, what Dallas is gonna do this year, middle of the road.
- 43:31SPEAKER_06: I'm just gonna say you've got Philadelphia and who are gonna play the rest of the season with a backup quarterback, you've got the Giants playing the rest of the season with a backup quarterback, and the commanders in your division, middle of the road is gonna win you the bloody division.
- 43:47SPEAKER_03: You know what, it could happen this year, because this year has been crazy.
- 43:51SPEAKER_03: Could you have imagined that uh the super powerful, amazing Rams who have every talent?
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: In the world are where they are.
- 44:02SPEAKER_03: And that um, you know, the uh unextraordinary but always dependable um 49ers who we didn't talk about at all are doing what they've done, you know.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: So it's it's you know, this is why we like the game.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: It's just uh you can't call it.
- 44:17SPEAKER_03: So it's great.
- 44:17SPEAKER_06: I mean that's really good because we're we're gonna veer off on tangents now all over the place.
- 44:21SPEAKER_06: Uh we probably did discuss the Rams and how shit they are to death.
- 44:25SPEAKER_06: Um but we have we haven't discussed the four the 49ers.
- 44:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:30SPEAKER_06: Um I know you were big on the 49ers on the prediction show, um, Kerry.
- 44:35SPEAKER_06: You you were almost backing them into uh into winning the NFC.
- 44:40SPEAKER_03: They've got their team back like they they thought they would, right?
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: They've they're always dependable, they're always just you know a good team.
- 44:48SPEAKER_03: Will they win the Super Bowl?
- 44:49SPEAKER_03: Probably not, but they're they're an amazing team.
- 44:52SPEAKER_03: So let's see what happens.
- 44:55SPEAKER_06: Well, let's come on to that because we might uh ask Rory for a couple of predictions.
- 44:59SPEAKER_06: But but looking at the how how the early season is panning out, I would think the 49ers are probably looking around going, this might be our year.
- 45:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I want to hear Roy's take, but before he does that, the you know, I I will have to say that um I could not um so I'm I'm late.
- 45:22SPEAKER_03: Uh I I was hoping to get here earlier.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Uh I haven't eaten dinner.
- 45:27SPEAKER_03: I I thought, oh, I can I can't do it.
- 45:29SPEAKER_03: And then I thought, you know what?
- 45:31SPEAKER_03: This is the show of shows.
- 45:32SPEAKER_03: We've got you know, we've got the the the original uh group back for us.
- 45:37SPEAKER_03: I'm I had to, and I was like, yeah, yeah.
- 45:40SPEAKER_03: Welcome back, Rory.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you've you're very kind, Kerry and Trent.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: So loving to see you.
- 45:55SPEAKER_06: No one else listens to me.
- 45:57SPEAKER_06: So I never said we were listening, Rory, but we we didn't say that.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: Exactly right, exactly right.
- 46:06SPEAKER_06: Well, well, so Rory Rory, why we do have you here and and we'd love to have you back.
- 46:10SPEAKER_06: So uh uh we we did put some predictions together for all the divisions and everything else.
- 46:15SPEAKER_06: I'm sure you listened to that episode.
- 46:17SPEAKER_06: Um I have actually let's uh let's let's not go through the rig more for you, but let's uh I'll put you on the spot with who's gonna win the AFC, who's gonna win the NFC, and then who's gonna be the Super Bowl champions.
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be it's gonna be Bills Chiefs in the in the in the division.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: Um and I think you know I would yeah I'm gonna have the Bills.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna have the Bills.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: I'd like to see the I'd like to see the Bills get over the hump.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: Um NFC.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Uh it's it's a little it's a little bit more it's a little bit more sick.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: It's all over the place.
- 47:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:04SPEAKER_06: Um yeah, sits uh video granddad up here, six seven, yeah.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um um okay, um um um 49ers.
- 47:23SPEAKER_06: Wow, there's big shout out and Super Bowl champions?
- 47:26SPEAKER_06: Bills.
- 47:28SPEAKER_06: Wow, yeah.
- 47:29SPEAKER_06: So Josh Allen's not gonna choke this year.
- 47:31SPEAKER_06: Is that what you're saying?
- 47:32SPEAKER_01: No, I and I No, I would I would hope not.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Um they're not a they're not a great they're not uh up the full team, but I don't think anyone's the full team.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: Uh as we said, you know, I think KC have did a great job um um picking up a run game.
- 47:51SPEAKER_01: Uh but everyone's just getting a little a little older in the legs.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: Um but you can still kind of go to them.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: But I think yeah, I think Josh Josh Allen is playing well again on the weekend, it's amazing, and yeah, yeah, you can't you shouldn't shy away from congratulating um yeah, greatness and all people who do their job at a highest level.
- 48:14SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I'd like to see them do it.
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: There's a little bit of emotion in that so even.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: But hey, I think the 49ers are a 49ers are a good team too.
- 48:23SPEAKER_06: Well, I think the 49ers, uh Shanahan's got them very well prepared.
- 48:27SPEAKER_06: I mean, the the the the back end of the game that today, uh where they all they they tried their best to give it back to the commanders many, many times.
- 48:36SPEAKER_06: And you could see it.
- 48:38SPEAKER_06: Yes, there was a very lucky uh face mask call from the refs, uh a correct call, might I say, that uh bought them back from a game-winning touchdown.
- 48:48SPEAKER_06: So um but yeah, they didn't look that great towards back end of a game.
- 48:53SPEAKER_06: So uh you know uh we'll we'll have to see how they go.
- 48:56SPEAKER_06: They they look like a team like who could see who wouldn't mind a bye coming up pretty soon.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: Um just um just on the Bills, they've conceded 171 points in their six games.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: Only the commanders, the Cardinals, uh team, have conceded more points than them uh this season.
- 49:21SPEAKER_02: Uh the Saints, um and the ma the highest points conceded is 178, so we're talking one touchdown um more.
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: So it's astonishing.
- 49:35SPEAKER_02: We did talk about them at the start of the season having um to implement a new offense and a new defence.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: You would hope as the season goes on um those new schemes would bed in more, but despite the fact that the Bills are shipping a ton of points, they're still winning games.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: But uh point you made earlier, Rory.
- 49:57SPEAKER_02: You know, how sustainable is shoot-out football week after week after week.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: We've seen not so much in Dallas.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, are the Bills going to be able to um to keep on clocking up the dubs when they're shipping as many points as they are?
- 50:15SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and when you lead Russia as a quarterback, you're in big trouble, right?
- 50:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I would uh I would hope they I would hope they remedy that, uh Maddie.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: But uh um yeah, I'd have trust in of those teams that I kind of made reference to, I'd have trust in Josh Allen.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: Uh um only because yeah, he's good on he's good with the uh he's good with the run himself.
- 50:37SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, they they need to they need to look at how they can tighten up.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: But I think he's certainly he's got what he wants.
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: He's got the coaches around him that he wants.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I think it's also a bit of a yeah, this is it.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: And if you uh if you uh if you don't do it now um with everything that you want, then when are you gonna do it?
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: New stadium, um, yeah, I do.
- 51:00SPEAKER_06: Hey, uh and that new stadium, oh my word.
- 51:04SPEAKER_06: All right.
- 51:04SPEAKER_06: Uh that there's not many owners who would sacrifice 10,000 seats and the money that goes along with that in order to make their ground much more threatening to opposition teams.
- 51:17SPEAKER_06: Right?
- 51:18SPEAKER_06: But but that but that's what they did.
- 51:19SPEAKER_06: Uh they they deliberately took away 10,000 seats from their old ground to make it a much more intimidating place for opposition to rock up to.
- 51:29SPEAKER_02: I don't think uh Mr.
- 51:30SPEAKER_06: Can you imagine Jerry doing that?
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I don't think Terry Pagoon is short of a bobber two uh true, true.
- 51:38SPEAKER_02: He owns the Buffalo Sabres as well as the Bills.
- 51:41SPEAKER_02: So um to be an owner of two you know top echelon American sports teams is he's clearly got some money in the bank, so I don't think he'll be losing too much sleep over 10,000 seats.
- 51:53SPEAKER_06: But yeah, um but if the uh the politics in America has told you anything, it's like people with money just want more money.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: But uh well guys, it has been an absolute pleasure.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: Um thank you very much for the invitation.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: Uh and I I do look look forward to uh a further inf uh uh further invitation where you can uh make fun of my uh predictions or uh uh or my uh my hard stance on uh on certain aspects, but it's been an absolute pleasure seeing you guys.
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you too, really.
- 52:26SPEAKER_01: Love it.
- 52:26SPEAKER_01: You're welcome back anytime.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: Great to see you, man.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: Great to see you.
- 52:31SPEAKER_01: Great to see you, boys.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: Thanks very much.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: I really do appreciate it.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: See you later, boys.
- 52:36SPEAKER_06: You know, see you later.
- 52:37SPEAKER_06: See you, mate.
- 52:40SPEAKER_06: Well, I'm glad you turned up and he's gone, Kerry.
- 52:42SPEAKER_06: Gosh.
- 52:43SPEAKER_06: Uh no.
- 52:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 52:49SPEAKER_06: Oh, but so it's good.
- 52:50SPEAKER_06: So come on, Kerry.
- 52:52SPEAKER_06: Give me a highlight of the week.
- 52:55SPEAKER_03: Look, I haven't watched uh any any games other than um the boys.
- 53:01SPEAKER_03: The one you did more than one thing.
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: The the the one I had to watch because uh I knew when you said I love football, I was like, oh frig.
- 53:10SPEAKER_03: This is about this is gonna be bad for me.
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: So that's the only one I watched.
- 53:15SPEAKER_03: But look, I I uh I I I don't know.
- 53:19SPEAKER_03: I I I think the only positive is that Dallas' defense is getting a little more stiff and a little more stiff over time.
- 53:27SPEAKER_03: So they they did um some reasonable things.
- 53:30SPEAKER_03: I think they still give give up too many big plays, all those things.
- 53:34SPEAKER_03: So for me, though there was some positivity out of it.
- 53:38SPEAKER_03: Um obviously we lost, and uh obviously our offense did not show up, but I think it's because Green Bay was just a better team, and and that's just how it um the cookie crumbled this week.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: But um, yeah, that's that's all I I got out of it.
- 53:52SPEAKER_03: And I I I did not want to watch that game, I'm gonna tell you, Pete, because usually when we lose, I just don't watch the replays.
- 54:00SPEAKER_03: Like I'm just that kind of fan.
- 54:02SPEAKER_03: I don't want to see it, but I thought I better.
- 54:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 54:06SPEAKER_06: See, see, I I I I'm with you, and then I give in and I watch um uh and I wish I hadn't watched.
- 54:13SPEAKER_06: And then you see something and you think, oh my god, you know, uh and and and and in this case it was uh uh I and I know we won, it was the the standard of refereeing.
- 54:24SPEAKER_06: So so I know you're a Dallas fan, but when Luke Van Ness got caught for roughing the passer when he just put his hand and pushed him slightly, um e even the the commentators now stopped defending them.
- 54:38SPEAKER_06: It was just Yeah.
- 54:40SPEAKER_06: What was that?
- 54:41SPEAKER_06: How is that roughing the passer, right?
- 54:44SPEAKER_06: Give him a pole driver or something, you know, they're gonna do something, right?
- 54:49SPEAKER_06: But uh yeah, it's uh uh the standard of refereeing has been quite poor this year.
- 54:56SPEAKER_06: Um and I think m most of our teams will have suffered from it at some way, shape, or form this year.
- 55:02SPEAKER_06: Is it time to start looking at a bit more professional referees or or or upgrade courses or or you know, trying to bring some of the college refs along?
- 55:13SPEAKER_06: I don't I don't know what the answer is, but it's not been great.
- 55:19SPEAKER_03: That that's an interesting call.
- 55:21SPEAKER_03: And especially when you say bring more professional referees who who we you know, in theory, these are the the best of the best of the best.
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, yeah.
- 55:32SPEAKER_03: It it it it has been I I think it's just been all over the shop, which is not what you want, right?
- 55:38SPEAKER_03: You want the the um refereing to not even be an uh a a thing in a game, right?
- 55:45SPEAKER_03: No but you don't want to you don't want to hear about them, talk about them.
- 55:49SPEAKER_03: But the fact that we have to talk about them all the time, it just yeah, it does bring in the question, you know, is there something that needs to change?
- 55:59SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 56:00SPEAKER_06: Yes, uh and and but who knows what it is, but I'm sure at some point uh one of the favorite teams will uh will suffer from it and then we'll all uh will we'll we'll do something from there.
- 56:11SPEAKER_06: Um very good.
- 56:14SPEAKER_06: So well we're almost up to an hour.
- 56:16SPEAKER_06: Uh it's been a pleasure to have Rory with us today and a late cameo from KG.
- 56:23SPEAKER_06: Uh gents, what are you looking forward to this week?
- 56:32SPEAKER_02: Well, I think the Bears going 5-2 and and beating the Patriots on national TV is is top of my wish list.
- 56:42SPEAKER_02: Um you know Caleb was 30 of 36 for 305 yards and uh pass a rating of 111.2.
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: So I think you know I've had I've had my first wish delivered that he came back, he played well, and he emerged and scathed.
- 57:00SPEAKER_02: So um yeah, hopefully he can continue that on.
- 57:04SPEAKER_02: And we can take uh a decent scalp in the form of the Patriots, who are never an easy team to beat.
- 57:10SPEAKER_02: But um I think Chicago and and Soldier Field will look spectacular on the on the broadcast on the national stage.
- 57:18SPEAKER_02: So um I'm very much looking forward to that.
- 57:21SPEAKER_02: And it should air at a time that might give me an outside chance of either watching it or having it on somewhere in the background so I can keep at least one eye on it.
- 57:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 57:36SPEAKER_06: Very good.
- 57:37SPEAKER_06: Very good.
- 57:37SPEAKER_06: I I uh only because it protects my prediction, I hope the Bears uh win as well.
- 57:45SPEAKER_06: Uh Kerry, what are you looking forward to this week?
- 57:48SPEAKER_03: Uh I I can only call it rebound.
- 57:51SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 57:53SPEAKER_03: Very good.
- 57:55SPEAKER_03: I'm hoping that um somewhere in there is a Cowboys rebound and uh people will once again start talking about them being a contender.
- 58:06SPEAKER_03: You know, they'll they they they need to score some points again, they need to, you know, feel like they are um in this, you know, in this competition this year, uh, which they they just haven't done consistently.
- 58:21SPEAKER_03: So that's that's what I'm looking forward to this year this week is hopefully a rebound and and let's see what happens.
- 58:28SPEAKER_06: Very good.
- 58:29SPEAKER_06: Very good.
- 58:30SPEAKER_06: So I I'm uh I'm praying for a win on uh uh uh at the Detroit Lions, but I I'm keeping my scepticism to myself for the minute.
- 58:40SPEAKER_06: I'm actually looking forward to a cracking game of of the Seahawks against the Chiefs.
- 58:44SPEAKER_06: I think that's that's gonna be a real good NFC AFC uh face-off this week, and we'll just uh wait and see what happens out the other side.
- 58:53SPEAKER_06: But gentlemen, it's been a pleasure.
- 58:56SPEAKER_06: Uh and uh it's been a pleasure to have Rowried here as well.
- 58:59SPEAKER_06: Um looking forward to seeing how we all fare next week, whether we love football or whether we hate football.
- 59:06SPEAKER_02: Yes, Peter, I'm I must admit I'm very surprised that you're not looking forward to the Dolphins and the Jets.
- 59:12SPEAKER_02: But um yeah, we'll we'll take the uh we'll take the Chiefs and uh the Seahawks.
- 59:19SPEAKER_02: Um and Kerry, um uh it's probably the longest warm-up in the history of podcasting.
- 59:25SPEAKER_02: You uh you're limbering up on the sideline there for four minutes of a 59-minute episode.
- 59:32SPEAKER_03: Oh I I I I pulled a hamstring while I was warming up, so that's you know that's all that took me out, coach.
- 59:38SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna be very I'm gonna be very kind to Kerry, Pete, and say that Kerry and I were in the same work meeting.
- 59:46SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: Um you know Yeah.
- 59:51SPEAKER_02: I'm just I'm just saying who who's invested?
- 59:53SPEAKER_06: That's that's you know he just didn't want to be here at the start when he knew I would be sounding off about how awesome uh Green Bay work.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_06: Thank you very much, Jets.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_06: Um we'll catch every everybody next week.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_06: Sounds good.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_06: See ya.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_06: Bye.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_00: That's a wrap on another episode of the Mostly Football Show.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_00: Don't forget to subscribe and review or get in touch at mostly football twenty five at gmail dot com.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_00: See you next week.
