- 0:02Speaker 1: It's weird.
- 0:05Speaker 2: I know that's the you're talking about Cagli. I'm say, yeah,
- 0:10Speaker 2: I just he's not in the All Star Game, is he?
- 0:13Speaker 1: No? Yeah.
- 0:14Speaker 3: See that's where it gets weird to me.
- 0:15Speaker 1: That's where it gets I mean, it's because I don't know.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I have a question. It's just weird if.
- 0:21Speaker 2: You're not part of the All Star Game that you
- 0:23Speaker 2: show up for the weekend and you kind of get
- 0:26Speaker 2: treated like you're an All Star even though you're not
- 0:28Speaker 2: an All Stars.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You know, can you see what I'm saying. Dunk Contest?
- 0:32Speaker 1: Can you be in the Dunk Contest and not in
- 0:33Speaker 1: a Star.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Well, you have to do that now because none of
- 0:36Speaker 3: the dunkers will do it.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Listen, I love Jack, same concept.
- 0:40Speaker 4: Many of them I won't participate in the Derby, so
- 0:43Speaker 4: you need to get the young guys, just like the
- 0:45Speaker 4: Dunk Contest.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I know. It's just weird to me.
- 0:48Speaker 4: I think it's weird for you guys, not for fans,
- 0:49Speaker 4: because you guys are players that experience the whole thing.
- 0:52Speaker 4: So it's like, oh, I'm here and then I'm not
- 0:53Speaker 4: in the second day. Fans just want to see dudes
- 0:56Speaker 4: that hit tanks.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I know it's just it's it's it's just an awkward
- 0:59Speaker 2: thing to me, right, I like it for I'll take
- 1:02Speaker 2: the opposite side, Okay, Jay, I'll take the opposite side.
- 1:06Speaker 5: I like the home I want to see the best
- 1:09Speaker 5: home run hitters in the world. I want to see like,
- 1:13Speaker 5: like I said before, I said, bring a minor leaguer up,
- 1:16Speaker 5: whoever win, whoever's leading the minor leagues in home runs.
- 1:18Speaker 5: I don't care if he's playing at al Paso. I
- 1:20Speaker 5: don't care if he's playing in Reno. Like, bring that
- 1:23Speaker 5: dude up and have him face the other guys, because
- 1:26Speaker 5: I it's a home run derby.
- 1:28Speaker 3: It's not.
- 1:29Speaker 5: It's not the Stars. If it was the Stars, Trout
- 1:32Speaker 5: would be in it, Harper would be in at Schwop
- 1:35Speaker 5: would be in it, Judge would come off I l
- 1:36Speaker 5: he'd be it like, but it's not so to me,
- 1:39Speaker 5: I have no problem with it. Yeah, Jack might feel
- 1:41Speaker 5: a little awkward. He might have to address in the
- 1:43Speaker 5: like auxiliary Jym, but I like it if he can
- 1:47Speaker 5: hit dingers to me. To me, he's got to be
- 1:50Speaker 5: like Jack could be like the punt, pass and kick
- 1:53Speaker 5: version of baseball.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I want to see Jack.
- 1:55Speaker 5: I don't want to see Jack run, But I want
- 1:57Speaker 5: to see Jack throw a baseball one hundred miles an
- 1:59Speaker 5: hour hit it one hundred and fifteen miles an hour.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Like he's one of the freaks of our game.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just to me. I don't know, I'm whatever.
- 2:10Speaker 2: People are gonna kill me for saying this. I don't
- 2:11Speaker 2: really care. It's in such an honor to be elected
- 2:14Speaker 2: as an All Star that it's the same with the
- 2:18Speaker 2: slam dunck, right, Like, what's Mac McClung. What's the guy
- 2:21Speaker 2: who wins every year? The dude that wins the Dunk
- 2:23Speaker 2: Contest every year. That's not all. It's not even in
- 2:26Speaker 2: the NBA's in the G League. Like that's why people
- 2:29Speaker 2: don't watch it anymore. And this is not a knock
- 2:32Speaker 2: on Jack Aglion at all because he's he's actually figured
- 2:34Speaker 2: it out and he's actually.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Doing really well this year.
- 2:39Speaker 2: They it's such an honor to be elected to the
- 2:42Speaker 2: All Star Game that to get to go. Like for me,
- 2:45Speaker 2: if they came to me and said, hey, we want
- 2:47Speaker 2: you to be part of the All Star festivities, I
- 2:49Speaker 2: and I was like, I'm not an All Star and
- 2:51Speaker 2: they'd be like, yeah, you just come.
- 2:52Speaker 1: In for Monday and do the home run derby.
- 2:54Speaker 2: You know, you hang out in the clubhouse and then
- 2:56Speaker 2: you I would have been like, that's so awkward.
- 2:58Speaker 3: I would have been scared to even want in there.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I don't. It's just me and.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I'm sure this is whatever. I'm gonna get crushed. But
- 3:05Speaker 2: I'm happy that Jack gets to go because I like
- 3:07Speaker 2: Jack and I know Jack. But I just I don't know.
- 3:11Speaker 2: To me, it would just be so awkward to walk
- 3:13Speaker 2: in there and know that I'm not I'm kind of
- 3:15Speaker 2: not there because of my.
- 3:17Speaker 1: But there's two events. To me. The dirt is some
- 3:21Speaker 1: people like this. That's why.
- 3:22Speaker 2: That's why I feel like it's kind of like you're like, oh,
- 3:24Speaker 2: look at me, I'm a fake All.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Star, but I see I don't know. I think you're
- 3:28Speaker 4: too on the inside on this in my opinion. I
- 3:30Speaker 4: mean you're you're saying how the player's feeling from them, I.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Saying, no, some players listen. I'm I just the way
- 3:37Speaker 2: not all players feel. The crowds played.
- 3:38Speaker 1: He didn't.
- 3:39Speaker 2: He doesn't have this, so he doesn't have the same
- 3:42Speaker 2: feelings as I do. So again, I was never an
- 3:46Speaker 2: All Star though.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Who do you think?
- 3:47Speaker 5: Who do you think feels more awkward the guys who
- 3:49Speaker 5: made the All Star team and they're like, who's this
- 3:52Speaker 5: buffoon showing up? Or do you think it's Jack being
- 3:55Speaker 5: more awkward, because when you talked about awkward, you were
- 3:58Speaker 5: you were playing, and you were doing playoff games. Your
- 4:02Speaker 5: team didn't make the playoffs. You were doing playoff games
- 4:04Speaker 5: for TV. You felt awkward there, right, Yeah, I.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Felt awkward walking into clubhouses as a as a current
- 4:10Speaker 2: player talking to managers.
- 4:11Speaker 1: About their players.
- 4:13Speaker 5: So he feels more awkward Jack or the other players
- 4:17Speaker 5: who are like, wait a minute, I'm doing better than him,
- 4:18Speaker 5: why is he here?
- 4:20Speaker 3: I think it's I think it's both.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I think Jack's gonna feel a little awkward because he's
- 4:24Speaker 2: not he's not on the All Star team, which again
- 4:27Speaker 2: in this we're just singing out Jack as he's the
- 4:28Speaker 2: guy that they just announced. But also I think the
- 4:32Speaker 2: other players are going to look at him and say really,
- 4:37Speaker 2: like really really, And again I don't know, I don't know.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I remember I won't show up for the dirt that's
- 4:45Speaker 1: we don't remember the time.
- 4:47Speaker 2: What's the Korean guy, the big lefty guy to hit
- 4:50Speaker 2: the homers for the cut?
- 4:52Speaker 3: No?
- 4:53Speaker 1: Uh, he stopped Troy.
- 4:56Speaker 3: Yeah, he stopped trying with the cups.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah, remember the one remember they did like the World
- 5:04Speaker 2: Home Run Derby where they had like a guy from America,
- 5:07Speaker 2: a guy from Dominican, a guy from Venezuela, and he
- 5:09Speaker 2: was the guy from Korea and had a Japanese guy.
- 5:13Speaker 1: I forget.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I don't know when it was, but he got to go.
- 5:16Speaker 2: And remember guys were like, why is he at the
- 5:18Speaker 2: All Star Game? But I think I don't know if
- 5:21Speaker 2: this is right or not. I thought he got to
- 5:24Speaker 2: hang around for the game the next day, which is
- 5:26Speaker 2: even crazier.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Right now in the dugout, I think, I don't know.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I don't know how they handle that.
- 5:31Speaker 4: If MLB adopted a special international format to promote the
- 5:35Speaker 4: upcoming inaugural.
- 5:36Speaker 1: World Baseball Class see eight players.
- 5:38Speaker 4: Representing eight countries, including he'sap Choi, who was on the
- 5:41Speaker 4: Dodgers at the time, sorry represented South Korea hit five
- 5:44Speaker 4: home runs in the first round. And then it included
- 5:48Speaker 4: Bobby Abray Venezuela, Pudge Puerto Rico, Poppy for Dr Carlos
- 5:53Speaker 4: Lee Pan and my Andrew Jones crous Out, Jason Bay Canada,
- 5:56Speaker 4: Mark to share a US and Choi Yeah.
- 5:58Speaker 3: See, you guys thought I was crazy.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Well, you said, but most of those other guys were
- 6:02Speaker 1: all stars. Yeah.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Who is the representative to share to share a mack? Yeah?
- 6:11Speaker 1: But is he senator? Now?
- 6:13Speaker 4: For me, when does he run hold on? It's about
- 6:15Speaker 4: the fans. The fans want to see bombs. Jack agleone
- 6:20Speaker 4: is having actually an all star caliber offensive season. He's
- 6:23Speaker 4: at one nineteen oh ps plus four fifty five slug
- 6:26Speaker 4: like he's he's.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Said he's having a good year.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Hasn't made it and maybe he gets in. I don't
- 6:31Speaker 4: think he will, but maybe he gets in. And for me,
- 6:34Speaker 4: it's to me, this is very different from saying, oh,
- 6:36Speaker 4: like we're letting a bunch of minor leaguers, okay, which
- 6:39Speaker 4: I don't hate that idea anyway.
- 6:40Speaker 1: From krats it's an exhibition.
- 6:42Speaker 3: No, it's one minor leaguer. Nope, it's one minor leaguer.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Let him in one you know.
- 6:49Speaker 4: The high school and they do in between, like where
- 6:51Speaker 4: the two finalists for high school get to do that?
- 6:53Speaker 1: I love tween break.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Are they doing that this year?
- 6:56Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Because there's a kid that I know from my son's
- 6:58Speaker 2: high school that my son played with that's in the
- 7:00Speaker 2: Home Run Derby.
- 7:01Speaker 1: They usually it's on Friday.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I was like, when I saw the contestants, I was like, dang,
- 7:04Speaker 2: I won't be able to see him.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I could be wrong.
- 7:05Speaker 4: I used to actually call this, but they used to
- 7:08Speaker 4: have high school Okay, so then I'm sure they're doing it.
- 7:11Speaker 4: They do the derby with the high schoolers and then
- 7:13Speaker 4: the two finalists would face off our last time of
- 7:17Speaker 4: the derby.
- 7:18Speaker 3: Remember that it's awesome.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it's really fun.
- 7:20Speaker 4: People are just there on Monday to watch dingers and
- 7:24Speaker 4: you're in the outfield to catch home runs, and they
- 7:26Speaker 4: say they run experience. The main problem is if every
- 7:29Speaker 4: All Star, let's just paint a picture of a vacuum
- 7:32Speaker 4: world of every All Star has to say yes. If
- 7:34Speaker 4: there has to be in the home run Derby, then
- 7:36Speaker 4: this is a different story. We've got plenty of options.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Nobody says yes from that group, not nobody, but met
- 7:41Speaker 4: many of them.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I mean, people do we.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Have in the derby right now? Ben, Rice, Junior and
- 7:47Speaker 2: Jack that's it. I think, so is Bryson.
- 7:51Speaker 1: He should be in. Let's count him. Let's count him in.
- 7:53Speaker 1: He's gonna do it.
- 7:54Speaker 5: Okay, he hasn't said it because he didn't call me
- 7:57Speaker 5: to throw to him. But my thing is, and we're
- 7:59Speaker 5: gonna get an answer at the end of our show. Here,
- 8:01Speaker 5: there's no way they've asked Hunter Goodman already and or
- 8:06Speaker 5: they haven't asked him and they've gone to non All
- 8:09Speaker 5: stars like that's that's gonna be my thing. I can't
- 8:12Speaker 5: wait to ask Hunter that at the end of the show.
- 8:13Speaker 2: So they asked every All Star player. Have they asked
- 8:17Speaker 2: every All Star player if they would do it? If
- 8:18Speaker 2: they did it, didn't have We surrised.
- 8:22Speaker 1: He can probably hit bombs. Ridiculous, he can hit bombs.
- 8:26Speaker 3: He used to hit bombs.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Now Luisse different in the home run.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Derby just did it. JAZZI should not have been there.
- 8:34Speaker 3: He wanted a billion dollars.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Jazz is still available. We can still call him. He's
- 8:40Speaker 2: going fifty to fifty this year, fifty stolen.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Bases, fifty missed challenges. Well, he's already hit that.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Inconclusion, I think you try to mix in some All
- 8:54Speaker 4: stars and then you try to find some other big boppers.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I just don't understand why this is become such a
- 8:59Speaker 2: hard thing to get people to do.
- 9:00Speaker 1: You tell me, I don't know this kind of if
- 9:02Speaker 1: they would ask me, I would have.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Jumped at this overgain every time, right, yeah, I would
- 9:05Speaker 4: be like, but guys, what's.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Fifty more swings? Who cares? Guys love saying no?
- 9:09Speaker 3: Now they do?
- 9:10Speaker 1: They like they like to say no more than they're like.
- 9:12Speaker 2: They become so obsessed with telling everybody, I don't want
- 9:15Speaker 2: to do that.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I don't want to do that.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Pick like you should do a lot. I feel like
- 9:19Speaker 1: it's cool to say no. Yeah.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Oh they asked me, but I don't want to do it.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah no, they asked me.
- 9:24Speaker 4: And then this is the thing to the media, like, oh,
- 9:26Speaker 4: in twenty thirty four, we might have the All Star
- 9:30Speaker 4: Game in my host city and then come back to
- 9:32Speaker 4: me then you know, like, oh, I'll do it one
- 9:34Speaker 4: time for my hometown.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Maybe if everything.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Did did get hurt, Judge did get hurt. He has
- 9:43Speaker 5: the one legitimate person that I'm like, as much as
- 9:46Speaker 5: I want to see him out there, he did get
- 9:47Speaker 5: hurt doing the derby, not hurt his swing, hurt his shoulder.
- 9:52Speaker 5: That probably cost him the MVP in seventeen, just saying.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I don't know Josh.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Hamilton that one year and remember the so he put
- 10:00Speaker 2: on O'Neil.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Cruz last year, not in the All Star game, in
- 10:06Speaker 4: the derby, put on a show. Do you want O'Neil
- 10:10Speaker 4: Cruz in your derby?
- 10:12Speaker 1: I'm saying, do you want what you said? It's one
- 10:15Speaker 1: of those things.
- 10:16Speaker 2: It's like, as long as the person's okay doing it
- 10:19Speaker 2: and they understand that, people are going to be going, hey,
- 10:22Speaker 2: why is this guy here?
- 10:22Speaker 4: But that's only the play. That's like a very select
- 10:25Speaker 4: few players, and maybe they don't do that anymore. No
- 10:27Speaker 4: fans care. No fans will.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Hey, Jack, you didn't make the All Star team. Why
- 10:31Speaker 1: are you at the dirt?
- 10:32Speaker 3: Fans say that. Really anybody in Philly.
- 10:38Speaker 4: And Philly fans will say, hey, you got a booger
- 10:41Speaker 4: on your you know, on your nose or whateppen.
- 10:43Speaker 1: They'll say anything to them. Well, hold on, let's let's get.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Another opinion here. Our resident gm on FT to try
- 10:50Speaker 4: and settle this for us. Jim Bowden available, Jim. I
- 10:53Speaker 4: don't know how much you've caught. But the debate here
- 10:56Speaker 4: that took over the show for the first ten minutes
- 10:58Speaker 4: is are you okay with guys like Jack Aglon and
- 11:02Speaker 4: O'Neil Cruz going to the Derby since half the All
- 11:04Speaker 4: Stars won't do it anymore.
- 11:06Speaker 6: Yeah, No, I mean, I think the whole idea is
- 11:09Speaker 6: the All Star Week is to celebrate those players that
- 11:12Speaker 6: are being given the honor and the privilege of being
- 11:14Speaker 6: on the All Star team. And so my own personal
- 11:17Speaker 6: opinion is that I want the home run Derby to
- 11:19Speaker 6: be represented by players on the All Star team. And
- 11:22Speaker 6: I think that unless you have some kind of injury,
- 11:25Speaker 6: if you're asked to do it, I think you should
- 11:27Speaker 6: be a part of it. But no, I don't like
- 11:29Speaker 6: seeing players outside of All Stars participating in it.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Thank you, Jim. I knew you were a smart guy.
- 11:36Speaker 2: That's why you wore your suit today, because you're a
- 11:38Speaker 2: smart fella and you agree with me.
- 11:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I didn't know always agreeing with you, except for
- 11:43Speaker 6: the fact that aga, I really want to go on
- 11:45Speaker 6: your vacations going forward, I mean, the pope. I mean,
- 11:49Speaker 6: I just want you to invite me on your family
- 11:51Speaker 6: vacations because that looks so sick and it seemed like
- 11:54Speaker 6: you were gone for like two months in the middle
- 11:56Speaker 6: of baseball season.
- 11:57Speaker 1: What was that all about? Right?
- 11:58Speaker 2: Hey, listen, Jim, you know, as a former player and
- 12:02Speaker 2: as a former media member now a current media member.
- 12:07Speaker 2: I took two weeks off Kratz. Sorry, my Jim, listen,
- 12:10Speaker 2: my life is a vacation. As people tell me all
- 12:13Speaker 2: the time, I just wonder or as this is a
- 12:16Speaker 2: you guys will love this story. My daughter was on
- 12:19Speaker 2: this trip of this right now. My son just my daughter,
- 12:22Speaker 2: and she looked at me, and we were with another
- 12:24Speaker 2: couple and their daughter who's about close to my daughter's age,
- 12:27Speaker 2: and I don't know how it came up, and my
- 12:28Speaker 2: daughter goes, well, Dad, you just live a fantasy life
- 12:31Speaker 2: with fantasy money.
- 12:33Speaker 3: I'm like, so true.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Are you kidding me? I mean, are you kidding me?
- 12:39Speaker 1: She delivers it so straight to you, and I love it.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I'm like, are you I just wanted to be like, oh,
- 12:45Speaker 2: it's a fantasy.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Huh. Do you realize how.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Many jobs I have?
- 12:48Speaker 7: You?
- 12:48Speaker 1: Do you realize how hard I worked all the time.
- 12:51Speaker 1: You work hard, not as many jobs.
- 12:53Speaker 6: Playing You earned it in the radio booth. You earned
- 12:56Speaker 6: it doing this. So yeah, I mean, you work hard.
- 12:58Speaker 6: You should get to play hard and celebrate. That's all
- 13:00Speaker 6: you were doing. But that was an amazing, amazing trip.
- 13:04Speaker 6: I followed it on Instagram. It was pretty incredible.
- 13:07Speaker 4: So let's talk seakeek matchups. Now, what are we looking
- 13:13Speaker 4: at this evening or the rest of the week.
- 13:17Speaker 2: For me tonight, it's Yankees raise, I mean Yankees Cole
- 13:21Speaker 2: Cole McClanahan. We should have been there today, Skuy, you
- 13:24Speaker 2: should have had us on the road today doing that.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I would have loved to show live. That would have
- 13:28Speaker 1: been cool.
- 13:28Speaker 4: From the trop I agree. Watch that you can strike
- 13:30Speaker 4: out twenty times a game.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Watch you strike out twenty times again, thirty four k's
- 13:35Speaker 1: and two games. That's a record for them. True.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the game for me tonight though. And Foster
- 13:42Speaker 2: Griffin pitches again tonight, so he's got a chance. But by
- 13:44Speaker 2: the way, we talk about Zach Wheeler, Foster Griffin should
- 13:46Speaker 2: be on the All sort team.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Foster Griffin's good sub three ra pitching for the Nats.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Then I don't know. Are the Nats going to trade him?
- 13:58Speaker 1: Year of weird? Right?
- 14:00Speaker 3: Yeah, they're gonna have to sell.
- 14:02Speaker 4: Yeah, but do you sell if you're like within a
- 14:04Speaker 4: few games of a wild card?
- 14:07Speaker 3: But are they? Are they a playoff winning team? Get in?
- 14:13Speaker 1: That's his philosophy.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Just get in.
- 14:14Speaker 1: If you just get in, we can get hot and win.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Foster Griffin throws Game one, Yeah, is the prospect return
- 14:21Speaker 5: value Game two?
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 14:23Speaker 4: Is the prospect return that you get for Foster Griffin
- 14:28Speaker 4: worth it versus you know, basically tanking the rest of
- 14:32Speaker 4: your season.
- 14:32Speaker 1: If you're giving up a player or two.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Foster Griffin is gonna be value to a playoff run,
- 14:39Speaker 4: even if it's not a title.
- 14:41Speaker 5: I don't think for them, no, I think they're I
- 14:44Speaker 5: think they sit there and they go, okay, like we
- 14:47Speaker 5: keep them. We give him a qualifying offer, he accepts it. Crap,
- 14:51Speaker 5: I guess we're actually paying a pitcher twenty plus million
- 14:54Speaker 5: dollars next year.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Good for Foster Griffin. He can buy me lunch.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Yeah, he's been really good.
- 15:00Speaker 3: And he used my shoes in high school, so he
- 15:02Speaker 3: can find me lunch. At least he could do.
- 15:03Speaker 4: It's because of the shoes, true, But yes, good ticket.
- 15:08Speaker 4: It is a hot ticket. I know sometimes it's it's
- 15:11Speaker 4: not a hot.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Ticket in Saint Pete.
- 15:13Speaker 4: But Yankees and rays Cole against McClanahan, raisor lights out
- 15:18Speaker 4: at home this year, Cabayaro suddenly becomes a home run
- 15:22Speaker 4: derby participant when he faces them.
- 15:24Speaker 1: There's just there's storylines there.
- 15:25Speaker 2: By the way, Marlins are playing really well. They're eight
- 15:27Speaker 2: games over. They're playing the Mariners, who are a playoff team.
- 15:31Speaker 2: According to Jim Bowden, yea, they walked them.
- 15:33Speaker 3: Can we get some people in the stands.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Did you see that game?
- 15:35Speaker 3: There was like nobody at that game. Nobody. Now.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I know it's a Tuesday night and I get it,
- 15:40Speaker 2: there's no school, But can we get some people in
- 15:42Speaker 2: the stands for the Marlins.
- 15:43Speaker 1: They're playing really well. They deserve some people to come
- 15:45Speaker 1: watch them. It's a long conversation. Okay, Well, I'm just.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Saying trying to sell their team in Miami.
- 15:54Speaker 4: It's a tough marketing play. They've been hurt. I know,
- 15:58Speaker 4: they talk to people down there. They're hurt, and so
- 16:00Speaker 4: even when they're good, they're hurt.
- 16:02Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I know that's why there's.
- 16:05Speaker 4: Plenty of teams that are going to come into Miami
- 16:07Speaker 4: and then it's a hot ticket. But it's the Mets,
- 16:08Speaker 4: it's the Yankees, it's the Phillies, it's Go down the Line,
- 16:12Speaker 4: the Red Sox, anybody that plays them there.
- 16:14Speaker 1: That's when those games are lit. But it's full of
- 16:17Speaker 1: other things.
- 16:18Speaker 4: They have a dedicated fan base It's just that it's
- 16:20Speaker 4: small because there's a second layer that watches like with
- 16:23Speaker 4: a distant eye. Because they feel like they mistreated that
- 16:27Speaker 4: they're going to do the Wayne Heusinger throw it all
- 16:30Speaker 4: away again anyway, Territory ten ten percent off your next

- 16:50Speaker 1: Account so you can use it later.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Okay, let's talk about the miss and how von Herrera
- 16:58Speaker 4: was able to not just time him up aj but
- 17:02Speaker 4: only almost was two timed up, almost pulled it foul.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Right as far as he was ahead of this pitch
- 17:09Speaker 1: the home run he hit off of him.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Burs still won the game and they swept the doubleheader
- 17:14Speaker 4: against the Cardinals, but Brendan Schaefer, who covers the team,
- 17:17Speaker 4: said Herrera got into the cage pregame, ramped up the
- 17:21Speaker 4: machine to spit out foam baseballs at one oh seven
- 17:25Speaker 4: plus so that it would look slower in the game.
- 17:27Speaker 4: That explains how he was able to actually be out
- 17:30Speaker 4: in front on missus heat, pulling his homer so hard
- 17:32Speaker 4: that radio broadcaster Rick Courton was pleading with it to
- 17:34Speaker 4: stay fair during his home run call with a laughing emoji.
- 17:39Speaker 2: Bigley hitters can figure out a way to hit heaters.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Christ you know this, like they'll figure out a way.
- 17:44Speaker 2: The thing that makes miss so good as he's able
- 17:46Speaker 2: to throw that little slider break the ball. That's what
- 17:48Speaker 2: he gets a lot of his strikeouts on. It's not
- 17:50Speaker 2: the heater. Yes, the heater is nasty, and guys don't
- 17:52Speaker 2: want to look like a fool. But it's more that
- 17:54Speaker 2: he can throw his slider first strike. That's when he
- 17:56Speaker 2: gets a ton of his guys look foolish on it
- 17:59Speaker 2: because they're ramped up for one hundred and five. If
- 18:01Speaker 2: he throws it like you did to Schwarbur and he
- 18:03Speaker 2: dots it down in a way, ain't nobody hitting that anyways.
- 18:05Speaker 2: You can do all the phone balls you want, but
- 18:07Speaker 2: he ain't hitting it even if you swing out it
- 18:09Speaker 2: no matter what. So you made a mistake. Herrera was
- 18:11Speaker 2: out in front.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Good for him.
- 18:12Speaker 2: If I'm facing Jacob Mizerowski, if I look stupid, on
- 18:15Speaker 2: a breaking ball. So what, but I'm gonna be ready
- 18:17Speaker 2: for that heater and I'm gonna try and clip them
- 18:18Speaker 2: out front. And he did it. So this is great,
- 18:21Speaker 2: a great Listen to young kids out there. If there's
- 18:23Speaker 2: a guy throwing harder, you don't have to swing harder,
- 18:24Speaker 2: you have to swing earlier and just sometimes you got
- 18:27Speaker 2: to give up, give it up. You're gonna look bad
- 18:29Speaker 2: on a breaking ball. Yeah, hey, you should be able
- 18:32Speaker 2: to protect everything. Go watch a Jacob Miseerowski start. You're
- 18:36Speaker 2: not protecting. So good for von Herrera. I don't think
- 18:39Speaker 2: he's the only guy.
- 18:40Speaker 5: I was talking to a hittig hitting coach the other
- 18:42Speaker 5: day and he's like these machines that pump out the
- 18:45Speaker 5: phone balls and they can get their like real look
- 18:48Speaker 5: without worrying about Okay, this one jams me a little bit.
- 18:51Speaker 5: I'm gonna break my knuckles. That's how you do it.
- 18:55Speaker 5: I'm telling you. This is This is why in playoffs,
- 18:58Speaker 5: when relievers throw five out a seven game, six out
- 19:01Speaker 5: of seven games hitters, they start to look more human
- 19:05Speaker 5: than they did during the regular season. Big league hitters,
- 19:08Speaker 5: even crappy ones like me, If you're telling me what's
- 19:11Speaker 5: coming and I have a chance to practice that pitch,
- 19:15Speaker 5: I'm going to start smashing it. You throw me enough
- 19:18Speaker 5: breaking balls on the field off a machine, I'm going
- 19:22Speaker 5: to start smashing it. My numbers against breaking ball sucked.
- 19:25Speaker 5: So in a game, if you're ready for a pitch,
- 19:29Speaker 5: you time it up, You're gonna clip it.
- 19:31Speaker 3: I don't care who you are.
- 19:32Speaker 5: Evon Herrera is way better than I was, and big
- 19:35Speaker 5: league hitters can catch up to anything and make adjustments
- 19:37Speaker 5: to anything. That's why you need people who are seeing
- 19:40Speaker 5: the swings, seeing the approach. Maybe this is the time
- 19:44Speaker 5: we break mix in a breaking ball. But this doesn't
- 19:46Speaker 5: make Miss. He had eleven strikeouts, doesn't make him any
- 19:49Speaker 5: better or worse.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Well played him before Miss.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Remember vintage Verlander carrying his velocity, which is nothing compared
- 19:58Speaker 4: to Miz. But back in the day, it was his
- 19:59Speaker 4: vo deep into starts, So let's honor him now. It
- 20:07Speaker 4: is some ft breaking news justin Verlander announcing on social
- 20:11Speaker 4: media that he is retiring after this season. He said,
- 20:14Speaker 4: this season has challenged me in ways I haven't experienced before,
- 20:17Speaker 4: both physically and mentally. I've always believed as long as
- 20:20Speaker 4: I could compete at the level I expected myself I
- 20:22Speaker 4: keep playing. I never wanted to retire because of a milestone,
- 20:24Speaker 4: a number, or a date on the calendar. I wanted
- 20:26Speaker 4: the game to tell me when it was time. Over
- 20:28Speaker 4: the last several months, I've realized that time has come.
- 20:30Speaker 4: While I'm fully committed to giving my team everything I
- 20:32Speaker 4: have for the rest of this season, I've decided this
- 20:34Speaker 4: will be my last.
- 20:35Speaker 1: It's fitting that I get to.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Finish where it all started with the Tigers, the york
- 20:38Speaker 4: that drafted me and gave me my first opportunity. We
- 20:41Speaker 4: will honor him at the All Star Game in Philly.
- 20:44Speaker 4: He is an instant commissioner's pick to be there as
- 20:47Speaker 4: a legend selection. He's currently on a one year, thirteen
- 20:50Speaker 4: million dollar contract with the Tigers and just hasn't been
- 20:52Speaker 4: able to get himself right and on the field for
- 20:55Speaker 4: a team that desperately needs all the help that it
- 20:57Speaker 4: can get as it tries to climb its way back
- 20:58Speaker 4: towards wild contention. But before we do all of that,
- 21:02Speaker 4: let's honor a crazy good career and a guy who
- 21:04Speaker 4: was trying to pitch like deep deep into his forties,
- 21:07Speaker 4: and he did get well into his forties.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Yeah, Father time is undefeated. As we all know, Tom
- 21:12Speaker 2: Brady tried to play. Justin Verlander wanted to keep playing,
- 21:16Speaker 2: and he had an unbelievable career, someone that had I
- 21:18Speaker 2: think the most career bats of Justin Berlinder, of anyone
- 21:20Speaker 2: in my career.
- 21:21Speaker 3: I mean I had a ton.
- 21:23Speaker 2: We faced them five six times every year and I
- 21:25Speaker 2: was always in the lineup. So we had some classic battles.
- 21:28Speaker 2: We're buddies now we play golf together. Now we've and
- 21:32Speaker 2: so we know each other off the field, and we
- 21:34Speaker 2: used to not get along very well.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We do.
- 21:36Speaker 2: It's improved, to say the least, our relationship. But congratulations
- 21:41Speaker 2: Justin Berlin are on an unbelievable career. You're going to
- 21:43Speaker 2: be a first ballot Hall of Famer. You deserve it
- 21:46Speaker 2: for what you did, how you pitched, how you went
- 21:48Speaker 2: about it. You know, there was no scandals or anything.
- 21:51Speaker 2: He just went about his business and pitched and took
- 21:53Speaker 2: the ball every fit day. And he's going to be
- 21:54Speaker 2: in Cooperstown one day. Congratulations JV, and we'll see you
- 21:57Speaker 2: on the golf course.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Forty three years old. What were the battles like?
- 22:00Speaker 4: Is that what caused a little bit of animosity to
- 22:03Speaker 4: fierce competitors.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we used to yell at each other back
- 22:05Speaker 2: and forth. He punched me out and I'd yell at
- 22:08Speaker 2: him and he then I'd get a hit and he'd
- 22:09Speaker 2: yell at me.
- 22:10Speaker 1: And listen, it was. He came up right right after
- 22:13Speaker 1: we had won.
- 22:14Speaker 2: In Chicago and they kind of took over the division
- 22:16Speaker 2: there for a little bit, so and he was kind
- 22:18Speaker 2: of the man, so you know, listen.
- 22:20Speaker 1: It was. It was all good fun.
- 22:22Speaker 2: And like I said, we've talked about it since and
- 22:24Speaker 2: become buddies and he's he's I've grown up. He's grown up,
- 22:28Speaker 2: and we're not playing against each other anymore, so it's
- 22:31Speaker 2: still fun. He had unbelievable career, man, I mean, listen,
- 22:35Speaker 2: he kind of changed the starting pitcher right from guys
- 22:37Speaker 2: who were eighty eight to eighty nine to ninety six,
- 22:39Speaker 2: and then he could throw it a hundred when he
- 22:41Speaker 2: needed to. That was kind of the evolution and he
- 22:43Speaker 2: was kind of the first one that could do it.
- 22:45Speaker 2: And congratulations, Jamie Man. Awesome career.
- 22:49Speaker 5: I saw him in the bushes when he came up
- 22:51Speaker 5: to double A. I think that starting rotation was Anabo Sanchez,
- 22:57Speaker 5: Joe L. Zumaya and just Verlander, and I remember facing
- 23:01Speaker 5: him and he went, he went ninety two sinker in,
- 23:04Speaker 5: ninety four sinker in, and then ninety nine up top
- 23:09Speaker 5: and you said it's Scott. You were like, oh, well, JV.
- 23:11Speaker 5: He was one of the guys that could he could
- 23:13Speaker 5: keep his velocity into the later innings. I don't know
- 23:18Speaker 5: what AJ's experience was. AJ was a much better hitter,
- 23:20Speaker 5: so maybe he came with it a little bit. Whenever
- 23:23Speaker 5: I faced him early in the game, nobody on you
- 23:26Speaker 5: weren't getting the best. Justin Verlander, he was like, whatever, Like,
- 23:29Speaker 5: you stink, I don't need to throw one hundred miles
- 23:32Speaker 5: an hour. Now you get a dude on second. Now
- 23:35Speaker 5: you're going to see the best. You're going to see
- 23:37Speaker 5: that tighter slider that's dotted, You're going to see that
- 23:40Speaker 5: heater up. I mean that to me, that's what people
- 23:44Speaker 5: should adopt, not the fact that he threw a hundred,
- 23:46Speaker 5: because he's not throwing one hundred for forty until he's
- 23:49Speaker 5: forty two years old without being able to save some
- 23:52Speaker 5: of those bullets along the way, and he missed a
- 23:55Speaker 5: season for Tommy John came back. Want to say young,
- 23:58Speaker 5: but when you look at some of his awards, the
- 24:01Speaker 5: fact that he won a Triple Crown one time, the
- 24:03Speaker 5: Triple Crown for pitchers. He was an MVP winner, not
- 24:08Speaker 5: a sy Young. An MVP winner three times, sy Young
- 24:12Speaker 5: two times he won. He won the ERA title. And
- 24:17Speaker 5: this is the one that I think is really cool.
- 24:19Speaker 5: He was the Player of the Year, the Player of
- 24:22Speaker 5: the Year. Yes, I know that's MVP, but as a pitcher,
- 24:26Speaker 5: that shows how dominant he was. And I'm honestly forgetting
- 24:28Speaker 5: which year that was.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Do you remember what year that was?
- 24:31Speaker 1: No, but you can eleven twenty eleven.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Tigers, by the way, because eleven he had, twenty twelve
- 24:40Speaker 2: and go Camerera won the triple crowns.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah, they had star power. They never won the.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Royal I the Royals knocked them off. They never won.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I know, they never won.
- 24:49Speaker 1: No. Forty three years old right now, just.
- 24:51Speaker 2: I hope you get to see him pitch again though
- 24:53Speaker 2: this year, yes, well not next year he's retiring.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Scott Well, I don't know. Maybe he goes to the
- 24:58Speaker 1: Mexican League and.
- 24:58Speaker 3: He becomes a Savannah banana.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Nobody's Justin Turner in the Mexican League.
- 25:02Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Because somebody else somebody will say I'm the guy. I
- 25:08Speaker 1: want to be the guy.
- 25:08Speaker 4: I want to be the guy to say, no, he
- 25:10Speaker 4: doesn't deserve it because he didn't pitch.
- 25:13Speaker 1: He had Timmy perfect games or something.
- 25:15Speaker 3: I disagree.
- 25:16Speaker 2: He was on the Astros in twenty seventeen, so he
- 25:18Speaker 2: doesn't deserve Yeah, somebody will say that.
- 25:21Speaker 4: Exactually, I don't care about the unanimous anything, just because
- 25:24Speaker 4: it has nothing to do with like what you did
- 25:26Speaker 4: on the field. It just to do with like one
- 25:27Speaker 4: random person just having their own anybody Mariano was you know,
- 25:31Speaker 4: I think he's the only one.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Yes, the fact that.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Or there's a million guys that just you're like, how
- 25:38Speaker 2: is that person not?
- 25:39Speaker 1: You dreamed Beltry? I think even Jeter miss Jeter.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Missed by one.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I think it's a ridiculous. Come on, I'm sorry Ichi
- 25:45Speaker 1: row right, didn't row miss Yeah? He then you want
- 25:49Speaker 1: to get lunch with him or something. Yeah, it's a
- 25:51Speaker 1: waste of time.
- 25:52Speaker 4: I like the question, but it's ridiculous that somebody has
- 25:56Speaker 4: their own little agenda. But for JV, he was able
- 26:00Speaker 4: to resurrect himself. Like Kratz mentioned, there were really multiple
- 26:04Speaker 4: times I think in his career where you're like, Oh,
- 26:06Speaker 4: I don't know, maybe he.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Went from Detroit to Houston and then kind of took
- 26:09Speaker 2: at another level. Yeah, and then he had the Tommy
- 26:12Speaker 2: John and they'd be like, oh, he's done, and then
- 26:14Speaker 2: he went out and just did it again. He kind
- 26:16Speaker 2: of became more of a break and ball pitcher with
- 26:19Speaker 2: the change. He always had the breaking balls. It wasn't
- 26:21Speaker 2: you know. The only thing that I remember he used
- 26:23Speaker 2: to throw a bigger curveball. He used to be more
- 26:25Speaker 2: of like a four seene curveball. And then as time
- 26:28Speaker 2: went by, he learned more of like a slider that
- 26:30Speaker 2: he could control and he could just to sneak a
- 26:32Speaker 2: strike in right. He would still flip a curveball and
- 26:34Speaker 2: every once in a while to steal a strike, but
- 26:36Speaker 2: when he kned it out, man, it was like that shoe,
- 26:38Speaker 2: that little sharp slider already learned the thrill. He This
- 26:43Speaker 2: is why he's a first Beellt Hall of Famer, because
- 26:45Speaker 2: as stuff changes, or as the game changes, he was
- 26:48Speaker 2: able to reinvent himself and become just as good as
- 26:51Speaker 2: he was before.
- 26:52Speaker 4: He stayed with the trends of the sport, like what
- 26:55Speaker 4: are great starting pitchers doing right now?
- 26:58Speaker 1: You know? Fastball, living up in the zone.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Okay, now we'refining the slider with the you know, different
- 27:04Speaker 4: devices that you have and spend right, like he he
- 27:06Speaker 4: stayed on everything right. He was actually known even like
- 27:08Speaker 4: really early on in his career as one of those
- 27:11Speaker 4: kind of like Brady crazy guys with prep with sleep.
- 27:14Speaker 4: He's like ten plus hours of sleep, super prep, like
- 27:17Speaker 4: twenty years ago when I mean, you know, some starters
- 27:20Speaker 4: would just kind of show up and talk to you
- 27:22Speaker 4: for a little bit and then go on the field.
- 27:24Speaker 4: And Verlander's like doing hours of homework. That was unique
- 27:27Speaker 4: twenty years ago, wasn't it. Yeah, So that's special because
- 27:30Speaker 4: he had isn't it always with the legends like this
- 27:33Speaker 4: that you have, you have it all the natural talent,
- 27:36Speaker 4: but then you also add what Verlander had or you
- 27:40Speaker 4: don't think so.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Not everybody because not everybody's built the same, right, I
- 27:43Speaker 2: mean Mark Burley did none of that, and he was
- 27:45Speaker 2: he was great, So I mean it just depends. It's
- 27:49Speaker 2: like we talked about who did we talk about yesterday
- 27:51Speaker 2: that had had to have like a fire and Dalton
- 27:53Speaker 2: Rushing was a Dalton Rushing. Who are you talking about
- 27:55Speaker 2: where they're like they have to play with like a
- 27:57Speaker 2: Cam Schlitler, Cam Sliver, Yeah, Cam Slitler.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 2: He's like he finds something on social media to make
- 28:04Speaker 2: him feel good about it.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Don't say I regressed in two stars?
- 28:06Speaker 3: Yes?
- 28:07Speaker 5: What Yeah, Jared Caravas, I'm showing you baseball the baseball savant,
- 28:12Speaker 5: Jared Garravas, the super fan who is a Red Sox
- 28:15Speaker 5: fan helping the Yankees. But the last thing, twenty fourteen.
- 28:18Speaker 5: I remember facing Verlander in fourteen, and I remember the
- 28:21Speaker 5: stuff was way way down in his year. I just
- 28:24Speaker 5: looked it up. He had like a four or five era.
- 28:26Speaker 5: I remember guys on the Royals being like, this is
- 28:30Speaker 5: the time you have to crush Verlander and Salvado Perez, Alx,
- 28:34Speaker 5: Gordon Hosmer, Mustakis, they were all facing them throughout that time,
- 28:38Speaker 5: and they're like, this is when you want to face them.
- 28:41Speaker 3: He is down right now. They're like, I don't know
- 28:43Speaker 3: what it is.
- 28:44Speaker 5: I doubt he's going you know, he's like regressing and
- 28:48Speaker 5: he's going to just rebrutal after this. But they said
- 28:51Speaker 5: in fourteen something was different, whether he played through injury
- 28:55Speaker 5: or not. But I remember that specifically. And then obviously
- 28:59Speaker 5: we're we're twelve years later.
- 29:02Speaker 3: And he won.
- 29:03Speaker 5: I'm not sure how many Cy Youngs after fourteen, two
- 29:07Speaker 5: Cy Youngs after that, two second place finishes after that,
- 29:11Speaker 5: So something was going on that year. And credit to
- 29:14Speaker 5: him for reinventing himself a couple different times.
- 29:18Speaker 4: I just want to highlight one season because Kratz mentioned it.
- 29:21Speaker 4: Twenty twenty two, he missed eighteen months, he was coming
- 29:24Speaker 4: off no baseball for eighteen months on TJ his third
- 29:29Speaker 4: Cy Young award a one to seven to five VRA
- 29:32Speaker 4: A World Series title.
- 29:34Speaker 1: Just ridiculous. And how old was he then? Thirty nine? Legendary, right,
- 29:41Speaker 1: it feels like a while ago.
- 29:42Speaker 4: I guess it was four years ago, but the dominance
- 29:45Speaker 4: that he had and then even for a couple of
- 29:47Speaker 4: years after that, I mean three Zra. It really was
- 29:49Speaker 4: just twenty twenty four, you know, didn't pitch well with Houston,
- 29:53Speaker 4: and then last year actually finished strong and gave him
- 29:55Speaker 4: one hundred and fifty two innings with three eight five
- 29:58Speaker 4: yr one hundred and fifty two innings for the Giant
- 30:00Speaker 4: last year.
- 30:00Speaker 1: This year just you know, not able to star.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Last year in the second half was really good too.
- 30:05Speaker 3: It was It's weird.
- 30:06Speaker 5: It's weird to hear him say that his body's not
- 30:10Speaker 5: keeping up. It's weird to hear the best players. He's
- 30:13Speaker 5: of my generation. He's one of the best pictures of
- 30:16Speaker 5: my generation of player. I get it, it's forty three,
- 30:20Speaker 5: but it's just weird to hear him say that because
- 30:22Speaker 5: Max is going through injuries right now and you just don't.
- 30:27Speaker 5: I don't know if AJ agrees, but for me the
- 30:30Speaker 5: end of my career, my body was fine. I didn't
- 30:32Speaker 5: play at this level, but you know my mind what
- 30:36Speaker 5: I know, I was fine.
- 30:37Speaker 3: I quit because I wanted to be at home.
- 30:40Speaker 5: Like, it's weird to hear the legends, the best players
- 30:43Speaker 5: say just not just not where my body can't keep up.
- 30:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you wanted to pitch until it was
- 30:52Speaker 4: at least forty five was wins and three win?
- 30:56Speaker 1: What did he finish at.
- 30:57Speaker 3: To forty five? Sixty six?
- 31:00Speaker 1: So tough to get to three Ono, these.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Days, one's gonna do it again.
- 31:04Speaker 1: It's so tough.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Nobody's gonna sniff three. Aaron Ashby Mike.
- 31:11Speaker 4: Twenty wins a year as the medium leverage guy, as
- 31:16Speaker 4: props to JV book.

- 33:10Speaker 4: I will be buying because I'm gonna take you to
- 33:11Speaker 4: one or two events where the drinks are free.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Boom.
- 33:14Speaker 3: I gotta bring a nice shirt.
- 33:16Speaker 1: A nice shirt would be preferred. Kratz.
- 33:19Speaker 4: You are not invited because it's your hometown and you'll
- 33:21Speaker 4: probably go home to sleep at night.
- 33:24Speaker 3: That'll be nice.
- 33:24Speaker 4: I won't be tired, Yeah, sleeping in your own bed.
- 33:27Speaker 4: I'll trade that for a few free drinks.
- 33:29Speaker 1: And let's charge.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Charge.
- 33:36Speaker 1: This one kind of snuck under the radar. Shoho Tani's
- 33:38Speaker 1: three hundred home run.
- 33:39Speaker 4: I know it's just a shiny number, but no Japanese
- 33:41Speaker 4: born player has ever done that, and he does it.
- 33:45Speaker 1: In one and two games.
- 33:48Speaker 4: The only players to get there faster by games Aaron Judge,
- 33:53Speaker 4: Ralph Kiner, Ryan Howard, Juan Gonzalez and all the Gonzalez
- 33:57Speaker 4: provided this tweet and said none of them pitched.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Thanks, Oliver cool.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Coolest three hundred homer I ever saw was Germaine Die
- 34:05Speaker 2: and Jim or Paul Knerko. Jermaine and I did it
- 34:08Speaker 2: back to back against the Tigers, same game, same game,
- 34:13Speaker 2: back to back. They hit their three hundred homer back
- 34:15Speaker 2: to back.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Wow, that's weird.
- 34:17Speaker 2: It was so awesome in Detroit. And you know why
- 34:19Speaker 2: they both did it. There's a guy him behind him
- 34:23Speaker 2: was you? It was me and I hit a single
- 34:24Speaker 2: and I'm like, I didn't even get any love for
- 34:25Speaker 2: my single. Wow, this is awesome. I mean, it's a
- 34:29Speaker 2: big number, it's a round number.
- 34:31Speaker 1: It's cool.
- 34:31Speaker 2: Fastest guy, fit, fastest Japanese first guy, Japanese guy. Congratulations,
- 34:36Speaker 2: show added to your mantle.
- 34:39Speaker 1: And he's good at that.
- 34:41Speaker 4: When you're this good, crats, you're chasing the team accomplishments.
- 34:44Speaker 4: But I think which I'm okay with. I used to
- 34:46Speaker 4: be like and I don't know I feel about this,
- 34:47Speaker 4: but now I'm good with it. He recognizes his individual
- 34:51Speaker 4: accomplishments and they mean a lot to him, even a
- 34:53Speaker 4: little bit publicly.
- 34:54Speaker 1: You know, some players are like, I don't look at anything.
- 34:56Speaker 1: It's just about the team, Like we know that's bys
- 34:58Speaker 1: a show. I feel like it's like.
- 34:59Speaker 4: A little more out in the open, like I would
- 35:02Speaker 4: like to win MVPs.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I'd like to say, young, I'd like to set milestones.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Yeah, it's okay.
- 35:07Speaker 5: It's not distracting the stuff he's doing isn't distracting his
- 35:10Speaker 5: team from winning. And what people need to understand his
- 35:13Speaker 5: first three years he went in eighteen, nineteen and twenty
- 35:17Speaker 5: not twenty was the abbreviated season. But he had twenty
- 35:21Speaker 5: two homers, eighteen homers, seven homers, just so you know,
- 35:27Speaker 5: it wasn't like he's been hitting fifty every year, which
- 35:31Speaker 5: he won't hit that many this year, but hit to
- 35:33Speaker 5: get the three hundred. He's also one of four Japanese
- 35:37Speaker 5: born players to have over one hundred home runs in
- 35:41Speaker 5: their career. I honestly thought that number would be more
- 35:44Speaker 5: when I first heard that stat. But three hundred is
- 35:48Speaker 5: just a ridiculous amount. And thank you Alden for telling
- 35:51Speaker 5: us that he pitches too.
- 35:53Speaker 2: He pitches, by the way, he's not winning a say
- 35:55Speaker 2: English year, Sorry what is? Or I just don't think
- 35:59Speaker 2: he's I just don't think this year is going to
- 36:02Speaker 2: okay as much as he wants it. First of all,
- 36:04Speaker 2: he's not gonna get he's not going to be at
- 36:06Speaker 2: the pitch enough. He's not gonna have the innings. And
- 36:09Speaker 2: it's just not gonna work out. Sorry, show hey, people
- 36:12Speaker 2: that are gonna kill me and say it's not over yet.
- 36:14Speaker 2: I just don't see he's gonna have. He doesn't, he
- 36:16Speaker 2: doesn't qualify for the Era title, and he's just it's
- 36:21Speaker 2: there's there's too many other guys that are having good
- 36:23Speaker 2: years now. Christopher Sanchez helped him out the other day
- 36:25Speaker 2: by giving up a twenty spot.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Uh yeah again, he's also.
- 36:33Speaker 5: He's also sitting there going he's got to take a
- 36:36Speaker 5: day off for this. He's got to take he's got
- 36:38Speaker 5: to get pushed back a day for that, and I
- 36:39Speaker 5: think we talked about it early. Yes, it's fine. Corbyn
- 36:44Speaker 5: BYRNS won it with one hundred and fifty nine innings
- 36:46Speaker 5: and a billion strikeouts.
- 36:47Speaker 3: The issue is miss is gonna win.
- 36:49Speaker 5: With the strikeouts this year and if show Hay doesn't
- 36:53Speaker 5: have I know, this is crazy to say. If he
- 36:55Speaker 5: doesn't have like below a one to two e r A,
- 36:59Speaker 5: I don't think voters are gonna be like he did
- 37:02Speaker 5: enough as much as he's going to run away with
- 37:05Speaker 5: the MVP award, I think Saya I agree with aj.
- 37:09Speaker 5: I just think too many things aren't going to align
- 37:11Speaker 5: for him to win it.
- 37:14Speaker 3: It's tough. It's tough because there's too many guys.
- 37:20Speaker 2: I know, there's so many guys that are just specialized
- 37:22Speaker 2: in the pitching that it's gonna be hard for because
- 37:24Speaker 2: they're not gonna they're gonna say, we'll just give show
- 37:26Speaker 2: Hey the MVP and we can give someone else.
- 37:29Speaker 4: I think if he has the numbers, they would give
- 37:30Speaker 4: it to him. But yes, they're really good competition. If
- 37:33Speaker 4: the mids stays healthy, I mean, what are we doing.
- 37:36Speaker 4: This is a ridiculous run that he's on.
- 37:39Speaker 5: Yeah, and Zach and Zach Wheeler is going to lose again.
- 37:43Speaker 5: He's gonna be another top three yep.
- 37:46Speaker 4: Yeah, because Schemes really fell out of the picture because
- 37:48Speaker 4: he went through a you know, a pretty long slump
- 37:51Speaker 4: just now.
- 37:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:53Speaker 4: Amazing though for show Hey, team lost by the way
- 37:56Speaker 4: to the Rockies.
- 37:58Speaker 1: They were up three to one late.
- 37:59Speaker 4: I think the win for the Dodgers was Evan Phillips
- 38:02Speaker 4: came back, looked good in a clean inning in the ninth.
- 38:05Speaker 4: So you add someone else to the bullpen who used
- 38:08Speaker 4: to be what a top three leverage reliever for them,
- 38:11Speaker 4: a closer at times. Yeah, they slowly trickle back and
- 38:16Speaker 4: get everyone healthy for October. That's the game you play
- 38:18Speaker 4: with show Hey too. My last point on this is
- 38:21Speaker 4: the consistency. He's getting pretty durable these days in his thirties,
- 38:26Speaker 4: coming off surgeries.
- 38:27Speaker 1: When his birthday yesterday?
- 38:29Speaker 3: When was his birthday two days ago? His birthday was
- 38:31Speaker 3: recent July fifth, yep.
- 38:36Speaker 4: Yeah, and he's what thirty two thirty two years old?
- 38:42Speaker 3: Yep?
- 38:43Speaker 1: But will you get to five hundred? Yeah? Men?
- 38:47Speaker 3: More years is?
- 38:48Speaker 4: I think three more years of pitching and I think
- 38:50Speaker 4: many more years of hitting?
- 38:51Speaker 1: How many more years you have in his contract? Seven?
- 38:53Speaker 1: Something like that.
- 38:56Speaker 2: World Series. This is his third year. He's at three hundred.
- 38:59Speaker 2: I think he might get to five hundred. If he
- 39:01Speaker 2: stays healthy, he'll get to five because even if he's
- 39:03Speaker 2: got seven years, he gets thirty a year, that's two
- 39:06Speaker 2: hundred and ten. He's still got this year to go
- 39:08Speaker 2: half a year. So I think he will get to
- 39:10Speaker 2: five hundred. Better question is, I know this is not
- 39:12Speaker 2: on show a well John Carlos Stanton get to five hundred.
- 39:16Speaker 2: That's the one that's going to be interesting because if
- 39:19Speaker 2: he gets the five hundred home runs the Hall of Famer, yes, probably, Yeah,
- 39:25Speaker 2: it's fascinating.
- 39:27Speaker 4: He's like not going to play this whole year, but
- 39:28Speaker 4: he'll probably pop up like September twentieth or the Yanks
- 39:31Speaker 4: and then that's what I'm saying in the playoffs.
- 39:32Speaker 1: But that's that's that's the one.
- 39:34Speaker 2: That's that's the interesting one to me is is if
- 39:37Speaker 2: he gets to four ninety.
- 39:39Speaker 1: See Hall of.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Famers, you have to get to five hundred. So he
- 39:43Speaker 2: has to get to five hundred homers.
- 39:44Speaker 1: The Fred McGriff McGriff got in, I know eventually, it
- 39:48Speaker 1: took a while.
- 39:48Speaker 2: I mean, listen, I know standing one MVP one year
- 39:50Speaker 2: but he's kind of been a one trick pony his
- 39:52Speaker 2: whole life, which is not bad. I mean, he hit
- 39:54Speaker 2: four hundred some homers. He made three hundred million dollars done,
- 39:58Speaker 2: all right, I don't know, it's early. It's an interesting
- 40:02Speaker 2: it's an interesting conversation that will be had at some
- 40:05Speaker 2: point if he doesn't get there as he's Hall of Famer.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Yeah, the way.
- 40:11Speaker 4: Right early he wasn't one trick pony. Now he is,
- 40:13Speaker 4: but he's a really good one trick pony.
- 40:15Speaker 2: I mean since he basically since he's gone to the Yankees,
- 40:18Speaker 2: he's been a one trick guy.
- 40:19Speaker 4: Yeah, he does damage in the playoffs. He's clutched too.
- 40:22Speaker 4: You know, that's the thing that the numbers don't measure, right.
- 40:24Speaker 4: We all know, John.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Carter, there's no such thing. Scott analytics. Analytics say there's
- 40:29Speaker 2: no such things.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Scott Analytics be damned. Show Tany's clutch too.
- 40:32Speaker 3: So that's the show.
- 40:34Speaker 4: We all know that there have been players in careers
- 40:36Speaker 4: that hit many more garbage time homers, and some days
- 40:39Speaker 4: somebody's gonna come up with a stat measure it all
- 40:41Speaker 4: against I don't know leverage situation.
- 40:45Speaker 1: But until we get there.
- 40:48Speaker 5: Will be an interesting case of how he will age
- 40:52Speaker 5: when he's done pitching. How does he age? Because pitchers
- 40:56Speaker 5: age much much better than hitters do. We just talked
- 41:00Speaker 5: about Verlander winning a cy Young after missing an injury,
- 41:04Speaker 5: missing a year from injury, and he wins a CY Young.
- 41:08Speaker 5: Max Schurzer has pitched really well into his late thirties
- 41:12Speaker 5: early forties. Now I get it he's hurt the last
- 41:14Speaker 5: few years. But position players do not age the same.
- 41:19Speaker 5: Does show? Hey, buck that trend because you want to
- 41:23Speaker 5: talk about miles. This man has put some miles on
- 41:26Speaker 5: that body.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Hey.

- 42:28Speaker 4: We received some other names for All Star two. Braxton
- 42:32Speaker 4: Ashcraft got in. He deserves it. Jesus Lozardo is in.
- 42:37Speaker 4: Deserves it, but not over not over Wheeler, probably not
- 42:41Speaker 4: over Robleski either. I feel like the league was just like, eh,
- 42:44Speaker 4: there's too many Dodgers in there.
- 42:46Speaker 3: Yeah, there's now there's too many Phillies.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Also, Robleski doesn't get in for the same reason as Wheeler.
- 42:51Speaker 3: Right because he's pitching Sunday. He's pitching yeh, Sunday.
- 42:54Speaker 1: That's such a dumb thing. At least, you know what,
- 42:55Speaker 1: do you know what?
- 42:56Speaker 2: The easy answer to this is, Hey, congratulations Zach, will
- 42:58Speaker 2: you made the All start team. You're gonna be replaced
- 43:00Speaker 2: here now, haysus Lozardo gets it and he's like, all right, awesome.
- 43:05Speaker 4: But they don't want to give out eighty of those
- 43:07Speaker 4: they they end up giving out any anyway.
- 43:09Speaker 5: They're not giving out eighty of them. Like, that's not
- 43:12Speaker 5: that's not happened to everybody that's thrown on Sunday. Or
- 43:15Speaker 5: even how about this, Zach, would you like to pitch
- 43:19Speaker 5: instead of no?
- 43:20Speaker 3: Our rule is this.
- 43:21Speaker 5: We are not doing that, even though our rule has
- 43:23Speaker 5: been the legendary pick. It's been the older players. But
- 43:25Speaker 5: we're gonna go with Bryce Harper anyway, Like rule the rule,
- 43:30Speaker 5: Just ask the guy, would you be willing to pitch?
- 43:33Speaker 3: Yes? Team, would you be willing to let them that
- 43:36Speaker 3: player pitch?
- 43:38Speaker 2: No?
- 43:39Speaker 5: Okay, Well he's an All Star If the team lets it, okay,
- 43:42Speaker 5: then he's an All Star. Sorry, team says no, going
- 43:46Speaker 5: to Lizardo, who ends up getting it anyway.
- 43:49Speaker 4: Yeah, no, mas, no schemes. Otani will probably hit, but
- 43:54Speaker 4: not pitch. Riley O'Brien, the Cardinals closer. I called him
- 44:00Speaker 4: the other day. Remember, I was like, that's going to
- 44:03Speaker 4: be the next guy. They're going to they look for
- 44:05Speaker 4: dudes that rack sabs and the yep.
- 44:09Speaker 5: I'm here for middle relievers. Aaron Ashby, Aaron Ashby for
- 44:13Speaker 5: an all star AA.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Luke Weaver mm hmm, Yeah, that's what he said. That's
- 44:21Speaker 1: what he said. That's what he said. That's what he said.
- 44:27Speaker 4: We were supposed to have Ryan O'Hearn on the show.
- 44:29Speaker 4: We'll try and get him a different day. Three homers,
- 44:32Speaker 4: ten RBIs. At one point the Rockies or the Pirates
- 44:35Speaker 4: had ten runs on the board in the sixth and
- 44:37Speaker 4: it was just the Ryan O'Hearn game. You could do
- 44:39Speaker 4: that Ryan O'Hearn, ten braves whatever they had at that point,
- 44:44Speaker 4: but they walloped him. This was a huge game for
- 44:47Speaker 4: the Pirates Overall'll tell you why one Skians had been
- 44:50Speaker 4: in that long slump where they hadn't won a game
- 44:52Speaker 4: with him, so that was cured. Ryan O'Hearn is one
- 44:55Speaker 4: of the best offseason pickups. Ben Charrington nailed it two
- 44:58Speaker 4: years twenty something I think twenty nine million for.
- 45:01Speaker 1: Him in this career year for O'Hearn.
- 45:05Speaker 4: The one bad news you did get yesterday was Connor
- 45:07Speaker 4: Griffin eight to ten weeks.
- 45:08Speaker 1: That's huge.
- 45:09Speaker 4: He was an above average offensive player, super speed, getting
- 45:13Speaker 4: better on defense. The rookie is going to miss most
- 45:16Speaker 4: of the rest of the season, but let's look at
- 45:18Speaker 4: the positive. How good is O'Hearn who he had to
- 45:21Speaker 4: kind of toil through the Royals what cut him. We've
- 45:24Speaker 4: had him on a few times where he's talked about it.
- 45:25Speaker 2: He went to Baltimore, figured it out, he got trade
- 45:29Speaker 2: to San Diego, so freaking sent a nice deal with
- 45:31Speaker 2: two years, thirty two years, I think it was twenty nine,
- 45:35Speaker 2: and he has what six when I say sixteen homers?
- 45:39Speaker 1: Last year was a career year in his career that.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Was high seventeen, So I think he's going to hit
- 45:45Speaker 2: there right at the end of right about halfway through,
- 45:48Speaker 2: they started facing they started having him face lefties with
- 45:52Speaker 2: and I think that was something that increased his value.
- 45:56Speaker 2: And now he's an everyday guy really for the first
- 45:58Speaker 2: time in his career, and you're seeing what happens. I mean,
- 46:01Speaker 2: he was he was pegged as a platoon guy, and
- 46:03Speaker 2: he was pegged as d h first base, and the
- 46:07Speaker 2: Pirates were like, we need offense. We're gonna waste our
- 46:10Speaker 2: money on Arcelos Zuna. So you're gonna go play right field.
- 46:16Speaker 2: Look what he's done. I mean, sixteen pumps at the break.
- 46:19Speaker 2: That's that's that's awesome. And he's an incredible dude in
- 46:23Speaker 2: the clubhouse too.
- 46:25Speaker 1: The story of the Pirates to me, has been their offense.
- 46:28Speaker 4: Their offense was abysmal last year and it's one of
- 46:32Speaker 4: the better offenses in baseball this year.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Brandon, they gave some money.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Up, they gave some things up. They gave up, they
- 46:40Speaker 3: gave up some of their defense. They I mean, they
- 46:42Speaker 3: knew that was gonna happen. What did they give up?
- 46:46Speaker 4: He's saying their defense is not as good. That's fair,
- 46:48Speaker 4: but I'll take that trade off. Really, it's just some
- 46:51Speaker 4: arms that haven't been as good. Schemes has been.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Their bullpen has been the problem. It's been awful.
- 46:55Speaker 4: Their bullpen's been terrible. And then some of their starters
- 46:58Speaker 4: have not been as good as they Bubba.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Chandler hasn't been great, Walk so many guys. Keller has
- 47:03Speaker 2: been about the same, Skins hasn't been as good, Ashtaw
- 47:05Speaker 2: has been great, Ashkove's been awesome. I mean, the problem,
- 47:08Speaker 2: it's been awful.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Terrible bullpen.
- 47:11Speaker 4: It's a shame because their Bullpen has blown so many
- 47:13Speaker 4: games where you're like, oh, they should have won that.
- 47:16Speaker 4: I know every team, Yeah they're still in it, but
- 47:19Speaker 4: they're in it because their offense, because they get hit,
- 47:22Speaker 4: they can.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Even though he's gotten nothing from Marcelo's in how about
- 47:25Speaker 2: esmer Lyn Baldez, He's been awesome for them.
- 47:28Speaker 1: The newbie O'Neil Cruz is hurt now, but he was better.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Connor Griffin was starting to figure it out before he
- 47:33Speaker 3: got hurt.
- 47:34Speaker 1: He was figuring it out.
- 47:35Speaker 4: This team's finding it on offense, and no Hearn is
- 47:37Speaker 4: a great part of that. We do have an important
- 47:41Speaker 4: line from Paul Skeen's postgame talking about how selfish Ryan
- 47:45Speaker 4: o Hearan was during this game.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Performance from Ryan.
- 47:52Speaker 7: I mean, I think it was kind of selfish, to
- 47:54Speaker 7: be honest. Everybody else is getting on and you know,
- 48:00Speaker 7: runs a rally killers Uh you had a three run
- 48:03Speaker 7: home runner a Grand Slam, and it's just like what now,
- 48:06Speaker 7: you know there's nobody on, nobody, nobody can drive him in,
- 48:10Speaker 7: so you know, good for him, I guess, but uh,
- 48:15Speaker 7: now it was it was pretty special to watch. That
- 48:18Speaker 7: was that was probably the best performance I've seen from
- 48:23Speaker 7: a teammate. Since I've been in the big leagues Bravo.
- 48:27Speaker 4: See if I was a player, I would talk like
- 48:29Speaker 4: that more often. I know Kratz did that sometimes.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Did you do this sarcastic sarcastic reply sometimes or not really?
- 48:36Speaker 3: Well?
- 48:36Speaker 1: Who was talking to me? What I was feeling?
- 48:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I just think they're fun to mix it up, right,
- 48:41Speaker 4: Paul Kanoff, he's been less serious this year.
- 48:43Speaker 1: He's having more fun now.
- 48:45Speaker 4: He went through this slump just now on the mound,
- 48:48Speaker 4: but he's showing more personality.
- 48:52Speaker 1: You're not impressed? Was good? I just I just think that.
- 49:00Speaker 3: I don't know, it almost it almost came.
- 49:01Speaker 2: You know, nobody really knows Paul Skins except for his teammates,
- 49:04Speaker 2: so it was just kind of like so out of
- 49:06Speaker 2: the blue.
- 49:07Speaker 1: No, he's been doing a little bit. He's been doing
- 49:09Speaker 1: he's been sneaking in a joke. I mean, I think
- 49:11Speaker 1: it's good.
- 49:12Speaker 7: I do.
- 49:12Speaker 2: I think it's good because we want we want personality
- 49:14Speaker 2: of these guys, not robots.
- 49:15Speaker 4: And we want you to be loose. Skeins is actually
- 49:17Speaker 4: very opinionated. I mean he was opinionated the other day
- 49:19Speaker 4: about the All Stars, saying like he felt like his
- 49:21Speaker 4: offense should have been represented. He's opinionated about the labor
- 49:26Speaker 4: agreement stuff. He's one of the more outspoken guys there.
- 49:29Speaker 4: So I just like a guy that's going to give
- 49:30Speaker 4: me something different. This is from someone who interviewed so
- 49:34Speaker 4: many players for so many years, and ninety percent of
- 49:37Speaker 4: the time you're just getting the Barer Blaer Blaer answer.
- 49:40Speaker 4: I started to zone out, just like players would. So
- 49:42Speaker 4: when you get someone who's taking a different route, I
- 49:45Speaker 4: appreciate it.
- 49:45Speaker 1: That's part of why we have this show.
- 49:48Speaker 5: So I wish he would have never I wish he
- 49:50Speaker 5: would have never broken character. I wish he never would
- 49:53Speaker 5: have smiled at the end and just been like, all right,
- 49:55Speaker 5: next question.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Watch the Brewers.
- 49:56Speaker 5: The other day, Seal Freelick made like a jumping catch
- 49:59Speaker 5: that he kind of like jumped, didn't hit the wall,
- 50:03Speaker 5: he didn't, and all his teammates, including Murph the manager,
- 50:09Speaker 5: was ripping him like, oh, that's Sal trying to make
- 50:11Speaker 5: a sports center catch, trying to make a sports center highlight.
- 50:14Speaker 5: Like Terang was like, no, that's fine. Bowers was like
- 50:18Speaker 5: he was just trying, you know, he made it look
- 50:21Speaker 5: worse than it really was. And then Sal comes back
- 50:23Speaker 5: in the media and he's like, well, the only reason
- 50:25Speaker 5: Bowers is a Homer was because he knew I was
- 50:27Speaker 5: gonna have to pinch run for him because he's so slow. Like,
- 50:30Speaker 5: to me, I think that banter. When people do it
- 50:33Speaker 5: in the media, I think that's great. And to me,
- 50:36Speaker 5: if it's in the media, to me, scheme's doing that,
- 50:39Speaker 5: I think he does it. I think he does it
- 50:42Speaker 5: in the background even more. I think he does it
- 50:44Speaker 5: with the boys even more. We just don't get to
- 50:46Speaker 5: see it. So it was awesome. It was awesome for
- 50:48Speaker 5: me to see that because you're like, whoa, he is
- 50:50Speaker 5: a cyborg, but he was on sarcastic mode right there.
- 50:55Speaker 4: You get a time period in your life where you're
- 50:56Speaker 4: the man, you're the active player. They come to you
- 50:59Speaker 4: something to me, that's important, right, give me a different
- 51:03Speaker 4: approach if you just say, wow, that was really good,
- 51:08Speaker 4: that was an impressive performance, or something. We're not running
- 51:11Speaker 4: the quote true prompts
