At one in the morning on the 27th of January 1972, four young Aboriginal men got out of a car on the lawn opposite Parliament House in Canberra. They'd just driven down from Redfern in Sydney. Between them, they were carrying a beach umbrella and a handful of placards. They planted the umbrella in the grass, propped up a sign, and called it the Aboriginal Embassy.
