- 0:11Speaker 1: Patriot's Unfiltered. Here's word. I'll give Matt credit. He didn't
- 0:17Speaker 1: start bawling until he got down the stairs. He hopped
- 0:20Speaker 1: off on his own. No help, hard to do hop,
- 0:23Speaker 1: No hell, he looks ready for It's hard to hop
- 0:24Speaker 1: with help? How did people do? Just overall? You guys
- 0:27Speaker 1: are struggling. Really not you that I'm struggling for me,
- 0:31Speaker 1: but not in relation to you guys. A news reporter
- 0:34Speaker 1: was breathless wondering if anybody asked him about Axel and
- 0:37Speaker 1: that's news. You're not a capital jake. Journalists, please step
- 0:40Speaker 1: aside and let the real reporters bill. What would you
- 0:42Speaker 1: say to the fans who demands to know unless he
- 0:45Speaker 1: plays so middling that they can just get him on
- 0:47Speaker 1: a team friendly deal, But you gotta pay somebody. That's
- 0:50Speaker 1: a sneaky negative comment right there, so high. I didn't
- 0:54Speaker 1: expect it to be that higher and come down that fast.
- 0:56Speaker 1: It's gonna take a few months, sneaky, sneaky and tell you,
- 1:00Speaker 1: like I just come out and say it. You can
- 1:01Speaker 1: just come out and say it. He skirts around the corner.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I want to see Marcus Jones. I just wish that
- 1:07Speaker 1: we had some kind of clarity of what to expect him,
- 1:09Speaker 1: when to expect him. You know, Bike, you don't need
- 1:11Speaker 1: to know, You don't need to know. Okay, are you
- 1:13Speaker 1: picking the Patriots? This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan.
- 1:20Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:24Speaker 1: at Gilette Stadium, And well, how do you feel? I mean,
- 1:30Speaker 1: because it was hopeful. It was another victory Tuesday. It
- 1:34Speaker 1: was valiant effort. It was I know it doesn't count
- 1:37Speaker 1: as a win in the standings, but I went into
- 1:40Speaker 1: the game thinking, okay, maybe we get to see what
- 1:43Speaker 1: this offense can do without Mac, and we ended up
- 1:47Speaker 1: being able to see what I could do without a quarterback,
- 1:50Speaker 1: you know, without you know, Hoire, And I think there's
- 1:53Speaker 1: some hope there for the offense. I really do. I mean,
- 1:57Speaker 1: you know, they couldn't really open up the playbook for
- 2:00Speaker 1: Zappy Um, but I think the old line played pretty well,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and you know, I I have hope. I think, uh,
- 2:10Speaker 1: you know who knows going forward? Yeah, I mean it's
- 2:13Speaker 1: you're you're in the thick of it now. I mean,
- 2:14Speaker 1: it's it's hard for me not to just kind of
- 2:16Speaker 1: bury this Green Bay game for what it was. You
- 2:18Speaker 1: played your third string quarterback, you lost in over time.
- 2:20Speaker 1: They fought hard, but you know, now it's just like, well,
- 2:22Speaker 1: now you gotta win games like you're playing the Lions,
- 2:25Speaker 1: you're playing the Browns like these are this is it now?
- 2:27Speaker 1: It's this is not a moral victory unless you win
- 2:31Speaker 1: next week and you put some games together. You know,
- 2:34Speaker 1: so let's I'm not calling this a moral victory until
- 2:37Speaker 1: I see what happens as a result of this game.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I mean, and I thought, you know, I thought Zappy
- 2:42Speaker 1: was was fine. I mean, he didn't cost them the game.
- 2:44Speaker 1: He made a couple of throws, but you know, there
- 2:46Speaker 1: wasn't a lot there for me to be like, wow,
- 2:48Speaker 1: this this this guy's gonna push. Mean, we were making
- 2:50Speaker 1: the jone. We were making the joke during the game like,
- 2:52Speaker 1: oh Mac Jones is getting a little worried right now.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I mean, but now, I what did you know they
- 2:56Speaker 1: ran the ball? Well, I think that opened up some
- 2:58Speaker 1: things for them. They were able to manufacture a couple
- 3:00Speaker 1: of drives. But you know, at the end of the day,
- 3:03Speaker 1: I think that you're talking about the third string quarterback offense,
- 3:05Speaker 1: and this isn't the offense we want to see or
- 3:07Speaker 1: hopefully that we're seeing in a few weeks. So we
- 3:09Speaker 1: didn't get a chance to see the offense that I
- 3:11Speaker 1: agree with Fred. I was kind of looking forward to
- 3:13Speaker 1: see if it looked any different, and then we didn't
- 3:15Speaker 1: get to see the offense at all. But I think
- 3:16Speaker 1: I give an a in this game to Patricia and Judge.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I would agree, you know, for the way they managed
- 3:23Speaker 1: the situation. I would agree, Yeah, I think you can say,
- 3:26Speaker 1: you know, like we don't have to get bogged down
- 3:28Speaker 1: in some antics of moral victory and all that stuff.
- 3:30Speaker 1: I think you could say a lot of good things
- 3:31Speaker 1: about the Patriots without going overboard and saying they really
- 3:34Speaker 1: won the game. Like I think that they showed tremendous
- 3:36Speaker 1: character and heart. I talked the entire postgame show, and
- 3:40Speaker 1: I still I feel exactly the same way I did
- 3:42Speaker 1: Sunday night, Mike. I give them ridiculously high marks for
- 3:46Speaker 1: going to lambeau Field, losing your quarterback, and then playing
- 3:50Speaker 1: with the third stringer, who, let's face it was given about.
- 3:54Speaker 1: I don't know, conservatively ten to fifteen plays to work with,
- 3:58Speaker 1: maybe and they can. They competed their asses off and
- 4:01Speaker 1: they gave themselves a chance to win. The other team
- 4:04Speaker 1: was trying their best to lose, and you couldn't take it.
- 4:06Speaker 1: It's unfortunately. That's the part to me that is unfortunate,
- 4:11Speaker 1: and that's why I don't like get bogged down in
- 4:13Speaker 1: the labels. I give them a lot of credit for
- 4:16Speaker 1: going there. This is one of the rare times where
- 4:20Speaker 1: really nobody gave him a shot to win, and they
- 4:23Speaker 1: had a shot to win. They had every opportunity to
- 4:25Speaker 1: win the game. Yeah, yeah, I agree. I mean, it's
- 4:29Speaker 1: it's just unfortunate. They had their chances. And I think,
- 4:31Speaker 1: you know, these last few games, they played really well
- 4:34Speaker 1: in pockets, you know, like like the defense played really
- 4:36Speaker 1: well in pockets, and you know, offensively, I agree with
- 4:40Speaker 1: you guys. I also think, like Matt Patricia, the development
- 4:44Speaker 1: of an offensive coordinator, so to say, is kind of
- 4:47Speaker 1: on display. Like I think that they did a pretty
- 4:48Speaker 1: good job. I also think that there are still moments
- 4:51Speaker 1: where they kind of get lost and don't quite have
- 4:53Speaker 1: the right aren't pushing the right button at the right moments.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I'm with Fred on this element. I understand where you're going,
- 5:00Speaker 1: and I think it probably deserves a larger conversation. I
- 5:04Speaker 1: take this game in a vacuum. I don't I don't
- 5:07Speaker 1: look at this game. It's like, Oh, these guys are
- 5:09Speaker 1: coming along in their in their approach, and this was
- 5:13Speaker 1: everything we were thinking going in. We gotta scrap all
- 5:15Speaker 1: that we got. We gotta take this kid by the hand.
- 5:18Speaker 1: In the three of us, Belichick, Patricia, Judge, we've got
- 5:21Speaker 1: a band together, and we gotta do whatever we can
- 5:23Speaker 1: to get this guy through this game and still have
- 5:26Speaker 1: a chance to win. And they did that. I mean, yeah,
- 5:30Speaker 1: they took the ball out of his hands for the
- 5:31Speaker 1: most part. I mean only threw fifteen passes. Most of
- 5:34Speaker 1: those were basically an obvious run situations where you know
- 5:39Speaker 1: it's run for five, run for eleven, run for here's
- 5:42Speaker 1: a hard play action. We're gonna we're gonna pop on
- 5:44Speaker 1: on you. And they worked, and they did a good job.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Twice I thought of scheming up, you know, Chunk plays
- 5:51Speaker 1: twenty plus yard plays, one of them for the Parker touchdown.
- 5:54Speaker 1: So I give. I'm with Fred, I give Patricia and Judge.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I've been critical of them, But I'll give them a
- 5:59Speaker 1: lot of credit this game, because it's not easy to
- 6:01Speaker 1: go into a game like that and and have to
- 6:04Speaker 1: completely scrap everything that you wanted to do, because I mean,
- 6:07Speaker 1: it wouldn't have been fair to Zappy to just say
- 6:08Speaker 1: we can just run on our offense like we normally would. Yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and people are you know, excited about the two Jones,
- 6:16Speaker 1: Marcus and Jack. Marcus Jones has got me you know me, Yeah,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I got I got another, I got a bar more
- 6:21Speaker 1: like crush going on. Yeah. I mean, finally he's doing
- 6:24Speaker 1: what we thought he was here to do. He's he's
- 6:26Speaker 1: got the job, and you know he was put in there,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and I think he's now won the job. They asked, Yeah,
- 6:32Speaker 1: they asked cam Acard about that. Today, we can't really think, yep,
- 6:35Speaker 1: it's his now, he's all good. He's not gonna have
- 6:37Speaker 1: to wory. I mean, of course probably that's what we're
- 6:39Speaker 1: all waiting for when they drafted him. Um just I
- 6:41Speaker 1: mean every single one, I felt like he got a
- 6:44Speaker 1: little more than you could have maybe expected. As an
- 6:46Speaker 1: average he gets up to the twenty yard are and
- 6:49Speaker 1: over time where you get to the fifty. I mean,
- 6:51Speaker 1: it's it's exciting. I think they need a game to play. Yeah,
- 6:54Speaker 1: they need you know, those kind of impact playmakers, and um,
- 6:57Speaker 1: it's it's about damn time. Will Marcus Jones get him
- 7:00Speaker 1: out there and let him do it? And you know,
- 7:01Speaker 1: we like the confidence that Jack Jones is showing. Uh
- 7:05Speaker 1: you know, yeah, I think we're all kind of like,
- 7:07Speaker 1: you know, a little run right out. I meant to
- 7:09Speaker 1: come up on the edge. I mean, I think that
- 7:10Speaker 1: he's scrappy and I don't think that he's afraid of contact.
- 7:14Speaker 1: I think, you know, he just leans more into, as
- 7:16Speaker 1: Paul said many times, trying to punch the ball out,
- 7:19Speaker 1: maybe more so than than tackling guys. I like the plays.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I mean two turnovers, that's huge, Yeah, and that makes
- 7:25Speaker 1: up for a lot of stuff. But I mean it's
- 7:26Speaker 1: hard to uh, you know ignore. I think even Belichick
- 7:29Speaker 1: and his comments were like, you know, was hinting at
- 7:31Speaker 1: yeah he had those two plays, but he also questioning
- 7:36Speaker 1: that quote and ty Law. As you know, Fred never
- 7:40Speaker 1: met a challenge that he disrespect. Did you think that
- 7:42Speaker 1: he could meet? Yeah? But I think Marcus Jones is
- 7:44Speaker 1: I mean, people are excited about Jack for for obvious reasons,
- 7:47Speaker 1: but I think Marcus Jones is where it's at right
- 7:49Speaker 1: now as far as player that I'm most excited to bring,
- 7:52Speaker 1: a dynamic element without anything that I'm thinking at this
- 7:54Speaker 1: point he could give you a you know, Strange is
- 7:56Speaker 1: holding his zone. If we can get Thornton in there,
- 7:58Speaker 1: it's a pretty good draft class. Strange definitely holding his own. Yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 1: Strange definitely holding his own. Random behind him a lot.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Jack Jones played a game and Marcus Jones Dappy, you
- 8:10Speaker 1: nailed them all. Uh, but but I agree, I mean,
- 8:13Speaker 1: you know, Thornton. Thornton was probably the one early on
- 8:16Speaker 1: you were most excited about, just from a from a
- 8:17Speaker 1: trade standpoint. Having some speed out there. You know, how
- 8:21Speaker 1: much of a difference is going to make when they
- 8:22Speaker 1: get out there and if he's got you know, Zappy
- 8:24Speaker 1: is still out there, they're gonna be able to get
- 8:25Speaker 1: him the ball. I don't know, but yeah, it's uh,
- 8:27Speaker 1: there there were some good things. There were some good
- 8:29Speaker 1: things for sure from the rookies. Yeah, I have a
- 8:31Speaker 1: you know, bigger picture thing with Jack Jones, Freddie, we'll
- 8:34Speaker 1: talk about the game. I'm sure roll with the you know,
- 8:36Speaker 1: the balance of our show today. But so Jalen Mills
- 8:40Speaker 1: missed the game with a hamstring problem. Assuming he comes back,
- 8:45Speaker 1: does Jack Jones and the promise that he showed in
- 8:47Speaker 1: the playmaking, does that maybe allow you to say, Okay,
- 8:50Speaker 1: let's go with Jalen Mills and Jack Jones on the outside,
- 8:52Speaker 1: move Jonathan Jones back inside. I like that. I like that,
- 8:56Speaker 1: you know, you know, instead of Miles Bryant, who I
- 8:59Speaker 1: think you know, struggled a little bit. Yeah. Yeah, I
- 9:02Speaker 1: think it's an easy I mean, I like that move
- 9:03Speaker 1: better than trying to say, let's put Jack Jones in
- 9:05Speaker 1: the slot. I won't really seen him play there, but
- 9:07Speaker 1: I like that one better. I mean, especially against teams
- 9:09Speaker 1: where the slot might be more of an is. Yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and there will be you know, matchups that you know,
- 9:14Speaker 1: like the Miami again. You know, he might want to
- 9:16Speaker 1: go with Jack Jones, I mean Jonathan Jones again on
- 9:18Speaker 1: Tyreek Hill. But I mean, I think Jack Jones is
- 9:23Speaker 1: a guy that the way he played Sunday definitely warrants
- 9:26Speaker 1: more more time. And he's been I mean, he had
- 9:29Speaker 1: a role on defense from day one. He was out
- 9:31Speaker 1: there against Miami, you know, in some capacity. So I
- 9:36Speaker 1: don't know, I think you could get some changes On
- 9:37Speaker 1: the other side, I think we started to see the
- 9:40Speaker 1: transition with Marcus Cannon for Isaiah Winn. I think that
- 9:44Speaker 1: John smith injury kind of derailed that because they had
- 9:47Speaker 1: so much now that I'm sort of hesitant to say
- 9:53Speaker 1: that it's Marcus Cannon now because John H. Smith, I
- 9:56Speaker 1: think is going to be out. I mean, someone reported
- 9:57Speaker 1: was a high ankle spring. So if that's what it is,
- 10:01Speaker 1: I think Greg Badard reported that. If that's what it is,
- 10:04Speaker 1: you're not going to see him this week either. So
- 10:07Speaker 1: do you bring Socol up? Even if you do, do
- 10:10Speaker 1: you still need Marcus Cannon to fill that extra tight
- 10:12Speaker 1: end role? Right? Yeah? You know you can't have him
- 10:14Speaker 1: be the full time tackle. I don't know. Yeah, I
- 10:17Speaker 1: mean I wrote I wrote down three issues after after
- 10:19Speaker 1: watching the game again. My three issues were right tackle consistency,
- 10:23Speaker 1: tight end blocking, and linebacker stops. Like I feel like
- 10:26Speaker 1: the tight ends are useless in the blocking game. I mean,
- 10:29Speaker 1: I Cannon, Sorry, Hunter Henry and John Who Smith and
- 10:34Speaker 1: like you know, and I know that John Who gots hurt,
- 10:37Speaker 1: but they're trying to do so much with those guys
- 10:39Speaker 1: blocking and they just have no juice in the blocking
- 10:41Speaker 1: game at all. There's no you know, plus energy taking guy.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I mean it's like they kind of run and they
- 10:45Speaker 1: stop and they kind of get in the way. But
- 10:47Speaker 1: I feel like so many players are getting blown up
- 10:49Speaker 1: by those guys. Paul brought up the right tackle thing.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I mean, Isaiah Wins again, Isaiah win has been a problem.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And just Marcus Cannon, like the smile on his face
- 10:57Speaker 1: after the first roun he was out there for that.
- 11:00Speaker 1: They got like seven eight yards and he just looked excited,
- 11:02Speaker 1: and you know, just that like body language to me
- 11:05Speaker 1: was just get him in there, get him in there.
- 11:07Speaker 1: He wants to be out there. I know he's old,
- 11:09Speaker 1: but he's big. He's done it before. My last one
- 11:11Speaker 1: of the linebackers, Like I just and I just was
- 11:14Speaker 1: reading Evans thing and he pointed out something similar. Just
- 11:16Speaker 1: Jawan Bentley, I don't get it, like he just they
- 11:18Speaker 1: seemed to run him into the line and then the
- 11:21Speaker 1: guy goes through the hole next day and this is
- 11:23Speaker 1: the fear that too close, he doesn't have a chance
- 11:26Speaker 1: to see what this is so fair that Mike and
- 11:28Speaker 1: I were trying to talk about heading into the season
- 11:31Speaker 1: through the summer, it was like, you know, Mac Wilson
- 11:32Speaker 1: mack Wilson. Mack Wilson, this is what happens when you
- 11:35Speaker 1: have like a guy who's really not a big enough player.
- 11:40Speaker 1: You know. I think to be small and undersized, you
- 11:43Speaker 1: have to be exceptionally athletic, right, you know, And there
- 11:46Speaker 1: are guys there are to be There are examples of
- 11:49Speaker 1: those guys around the league. I don't think mack Wilson
- 11:52Speaker 1: has proven to be that as an NFL player. I
- 11:54Speaker 1: think there's some there's some value to mack Wilson. I'm
- 11:57Speaker 1: saying he doesn't belong in the field, but I think
- 11:59Speaker 1: you've seen last couple of weeks when you get some
- 12:01Speaker 1: power running attacks. Yeah, And that's what's my biggest disappointment
- 12:05Speaker 1: is after the first two weeks, I thought maybe maybe
- 12:07Speaker 1: they have improved, maybe the you know, maybe maybe the
- 12:10Speaker 1: front seven is better. It's not. I think it's tough. Okay,
- 12:12Speaker 1: what they do, not what they say, and what did
- 12:15Speaker 1: they do? They did nothing, That's my point. It's like that.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I don't think they thought it was as big a deal. Well,
- 12:20Speaker 1: they decided not to get any linebackers. I mean, I
- 12:23Speaker 1: think the McMillan thumb injury has probably played I mean,
- 12:25Speaker 1: I think he'd be playing maybe more than than Jelani
- 12:28Speaker 1: Tavai would. But you know, I actually thought I played
- 12:30Speaker 1: reasonably If I played reasonably well too, I just, you know,
- 12:34Speaker 1: like I'm just it jumped out to me watching it
- 12:36Speaker 1: again with Bentley, and it's like, I like what some
- 12:39Speaker 1: of these defensive linemen are doing. Like I mean, you
- 12:41Speaker 1: look at you know, I like the statu stops, you know,
- 12:43Speaker 1: like you make a tackle behind the line of scrimmage,
- 12:46Speaker 1: you hold them, you know, from getting the yardage for
- 12:48Speaker 1: a successful play. I mean Bentley's got three stops. I
- 12:52Speaker 1: mean he's forty eighth and stops per snap for linebackers.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I mean, you look at the good defenses. Who's making
- 12:57Speaker 1: the stops on those good defenses? The linebackers are you
- 12:59Speaker 1: look ours, It's either the front front guys like Godschaw,
- 13:03Speaker 1: or it's the back end guys make it. And it's
- 13:05Speaker 1: just I'm trying to struggle with what's going on with
- 13:07Speaker 1: the run defense. And it's something we talked a lot
- 13:09Speaker 1: about on the on the postgame show, and that was
- 13:11Speaker 1: kind of my deep dive of just like they're also
- 13:13Speaker 1: thirty second in terms of football outsiders, you know, like
- 13:16Speaker 1: power stops behind the line, like winning those stuff runs
- 13:20Speaker 1: thirty second in the league. They don't play behind the
- 13:22Speaker 1: line of scrimmage. I don't necessarily think it's the defensive
- 13:25Speaker 1: lineman's fault, who I think are pretty good at holding themselves.
- 13:27Speaker 1: I do. I just don't think that they have the
- 13:30Speaker 1: linebackers to get through. I think that is that's the
- 13:32Speaker 1: to me right now is the biggest I'm gonna call
- 13:33Speaker 1: out my guy, one of my guys. I called for it.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I wanted more Barbard, I wanted more snaps. I don't
- 13:38Speaker 1: think he's been effective with more. Yeah. Yeah, he's had problems.
- 13:41Speaker 1: He's spent a little bit disappointing. Yeah yeah, and I'm
- 13:44Speaker 1: not again, doesn't mean that he's not still a really
- 13:47Speaker 1: good player. Doesn't mean he's not gonna still be, you know,
- 13:51Speaker 1: you know, a force going forward. I just think that
- 13:53Speaker 1: their run defense, it's all it's it's the entirety or
- 13:56Speaker 1: the front seven. It's not just on linebackers. Like the
- 13:59Speaker 1: front seven gets moved off the ball on a consistent basis,
- 14:03Speaker 1: and that's through you know, the these two games have
- 14:06Speaker 1: been a problem to me, and I even go back
- 14:07Speaker 1: to the Miami game. The short yardage plays. They were
- 14:11Speaker 1: able to run for first downs in that game, you know,
- 14:13Speaker 1: when when they wanted to line it up and run it,
- 14:14Speaker 1: they were able to. Even though they didn't have big
- 14:16Speaker 1: numbers in that game, Pittsburgh was the was the one
- 14:19Speaker 1: game that I thought they played really well. I'm I'm
- 14:21Speaker 1: gonna disagree with Paul. I don't. I don't think that.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I mean, I think they do. They have their moments,
- 14:24Speaker 1: but I think that generally Godshaw, Carl Davis, Lawrence, I
- 14:28Speaker 1: think Carl Davis. I think Carl Davis is pretty good.
- 14:30Speaker 1: He might be that I have no use for it.
- 14:32Speaker 1: And Barnmore ended up on his back more times in
- 14:34Speaker 1: that game than I ever remember seeing. I have use
- 14:37Speaker 1: for Godshaw. I think he's having a real good season.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I mean, and Tetrick wise has been pretty good too,
- 14:42Speaker 1: But I just I don't think it's enough. And I'm
- 14:44Speaker 1: not saying that they're consistent and they're great every down,
- 14:46Speaker 1: but I would disagree on Paul's point. They get pushed
- 14:48Speaker 1: around more. I would say more often than not, they're
- 14:51Speaker 1: doing their job and the linebackers are running into the
- 14:53Speaker 1: wrong hole and the guy's going through that. Those are
- 14:55Speaker 1: the big runs now, I've seen me with Bentley, like
- 14:58Speaker 1: he's so close to the line, How on earth can
- 15:00Speaker 1: you diagnose what's going on? You've already filled the gap. Yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 1: and and you don't even know if that's the gap
- 15:07Speaker 1: into the wrong hole. I just you know, you don't
- 15:09Speaker 1: have those guys that get over the top. I mean
- 15:11Speaker 1: there was a couple times to me until Paul's point
- 15:13Speaker 1: where Tavia on the backside is getting there at the
- 15:16Speaker 1: same time as as as Bentley is. You know. So
- 15:19Speaker 1: I just those off the ball middle spots. I think
- 15:21Speaker 1: a problems. I think the linebackers are a bigger problem.
- 15:24Speaker 1: But I don't think the front has been great. I
- 15:26Speaker 1: think Carl Davison limited action, he shows up a little
- 15:29Speaker 1: bit totally. And I think Tetrich Wise has played well.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I don't think the other guys have consistently put well.
- 15:34Speaker 1: And I don't think Lawrence Guy was consistently playing well
- 15:36Speaker 1: when he was before he was hurt. I think that
- 15:39Speaker 1: you know, Baltimore for the first three quarters ran the
- 15:41Speaker 1: ball really well before Guy left the game. The other day. Yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I get two weeks ago. If Hoyer doesn't get hurt,
- 15:46Speaker 1: did the Patriots win this game? Everything else being even
- 15:50Speaker 1: if the game unfolds exactly the same, I say, yes,
- 15:53Speaker 1: but the whole game change. They can just do more
- 15:55Speaker 1: on offense. The whole game completely changes. Yeah, so it's
- 15:58Speaker 1: hard to you know, but if if you want to say,
- 16:00Speaker 1: but like everything happened exactly the same, Yeah they I
- 16:03Speaker 1: think they win. Yeah, yeah, I mean the fumble that
- 16:06Speaker 1: I mean that didn't cost him, but feel position. I
- 16:08Speaker 1: mean that that took points off the board. I just
- 16:11Speaker 1: wonder how much they had to work with when Hoyer
- 16:14Speaker 1: went out. What did it really look like for like
- 16:16Speaker 1: how much did they have to scramble? How much like
- 16:18Speaker 1: a volume of plays? I mean, of course they had
- 16:23Speaker 1: to let me talk about just testing a you know
- 16:26Speaker 1: what kind of a But I also want how does
- 16:28Speaker 1: that impact? Like I was really struck by the candid
- 16:32Speaker 1: nature of Rogers after the game. Yeah, but admitted, like, yeah,
- 16:37Speaker 1: playing against a third string quarterback, I mean, we have
- 16:39Speaker 1: to win that, Like that's how we played. He played
- 16:43Speaker 1: like they went into the game saying, there's no way
- 16:45Speaker 1: we can lose this game. We have to win this.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Like they played like they didn't have any urgency at
- 16:49Speaker 1: all until like the second half. Yeah, which was embarrassing.
- 16:54Speaker 1: I thought Green Bass performance was was really like for
- 16:57Speaker 1: a so called really good team, that was a troubling performance.
- 17:01Speaker 1: If I'm a Packers fan, I wrote in the first half,
- 17:04Speaker 1: like his passes, Rogers passes looked like he was disgusted
- 17:07Speaker 1: with his team. Yeah you know. Yeah. And in the
- 17:11Speaker 1: first half, some of those go routes that he threw,
- 17:13Speaker 1: they had guys open and he was just like chucking them.
- 17:16Speaker 1: And the I mean the ult pass he was making.
- 17:18Speaker 1: He made fun of himself so bad. And did hear
- 17:19Speaker 1: his comment on that, like his qualm? Hear his comment
- 17:23Speaker 1: on that? Um he said that was such a bad
- 17:26Speaker 1: pass that Jack Jones almost overran it because he just,
- 17:31Speaker 1: like I think he was just thinking, I'll just throw
- 17:33Speaker 1: a quick one out here, we'll get a first down,
- 17:35Speaker 1: We'll see if we can get something going. Yeah, you know.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And then Jack Jones was like like he has been
- 17:40Speaker 1: all summer. He jumped, he jumped those out roads. Yeah,
- 17:43Speaker 1: so good. He's a ballhawk, so good. That was kind
- 17:46Speaker 1: of me. With Rashawn Kerry, that was I thought he
- 17:49Speaker 1: was I'll stay away from. I think he's an awesome player.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Rashawn Kerry, I mean he was all over the place. Um,
- 17:56Speaker 1: you know, it's just it's a it's a sample of
- 17:57Speaker 1: a defense that has a bunch of first round picks
- 17:59Speaker 1: that's seemed like they know what they want to do
- 18:01Speaker 1: and uh, and that that guy on the edge is
- 18:03Speaker 1: just he was he was a bit problem from start
- 18:05Speaker 1: to finish. So we're left with wildly entertaining second half. Though,
- 18:11Speaker 1: I will say that well, I mean, you know, you
- 18:13Speaker 1: talk about TV ratings, it's the first game this year
- 18:16Speaker 1: for the Patriots that they've gone over a thirty oh
- 18:19Speaker 1: and so it's not the new way that they're recording
- 18:21Speaker 1: the ratings. You know, people actually watched. I think they
- 18:24Speaker 1: peaked at like a thirty six, you know, because it
- 18:26Speaker 1: was a good game and the four o'clock start to
- 18:29Speaker 1: the four twenty five start helps. Yeah, you know, it's
- 18:32Speaker 1: like me picked to thirty six. Yeah, I mean, what
- 18:37Speaker 1: did you say, it's like PICKD to thirty six. I
- 18:40Speaker 1: think you met six. But it was, you know, just
- 18:44Speaker 1: from a fan standpoint, it was a thoroughly entertaining game.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I mean they still do it. I mean the Tampa
- 18:49Speaker 1: Bay game last year, the Dallas game last year. I mean,
- 18:51Speaker 1: they still are able to, you know, produce these games.
- 18:54Speaker 1: They haven't been able to get over the hump and
- 18:55Speaker 1: win them yet, which I think is the you know,
- 18:57Speaker 1: the big next step for them to you know, not
- 18:59Speaker 1: just have these moral victories against good teams, you know,
- 19:01Speaker 1: you go toe to toe. Well, that's that's why I
- 19:03Speaker 1: don't really care what happens in the next five weeks,
- 19:05Speaker 1: Like it's gonna be a while before I can see
- 19:07Speaker 1: if there's any impact. You know, I'd say, if there's
- 19:11Speaker 1: two things that I think we're missing right now, it's
- 19:14Speaker 1: the linebacker play and tight end play. Man, we could
- 19:17Speaker 1: use some tight end play for this offense. You know,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I think they could use a lot of things. Well,
- 19:21Speaker 1: I know, I start somewhere. Yeah, you gotta right, you
- 19:23Speaker 1: gotta start somewhere. You know. It's just we're not getting
- 19:27Speaker 1: anything to get from the tight end. Yeah, I mean,
- 19:29Speaker 1: that's I mean, everything else seems like secondary to the
- 19:32Speaker 1: quarterback issues of not only getting Mac back, but you know,
- 19:35Speaker 1: helping hoping that this run game can continue this trajectory
- 19:38Speaker 1: of how well they're running the ball and you know,
- 19:40Speaker 1: hopefully that will help help Mac when he gets back.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I heard during the third quarter Mac called Bill and said, Hey,
- 19:45Speaker 1: I'm feeling a lot better. That's that was our joke
- 19:49Speaker 1: that be through that touchdown past oh Max Max in reality,
- 19:54Speaker 1: now you know, if you were going to go and happen,
- 19:57Speaker 1: I would have been like, yeah, no, I think it's
- 19:58Speaker 1: going to be two more weeks. Good luck with that
- 20:01Speaker 1: horriers out. I think it's gonna be two more weeks
- 20:03Speaker 1: before I'm ready. Do you think they're going to roll
- 20:05Speaker 1: out John who out this this week and just have
- 20:07Speaker 1: them stand at practice with his higher stand watch throwing
- 20:09Speaker 1: passes into the net. So you know, the big question was,
- 20:12Speaker 1: you know, had Zappy got hurt, then what you know?
- 20:16Speaker 1: And I heard that Hunter Hunter Henry might have been
- 20:21Speaker 1: called into adds Kendrick Borne and DeVante Parker. According to
- 20:24Speaker 1: those in the press box, we're doing a lot of
- 20:27Speaker 1: throwing between sis. I think they would have gone wildcat.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I think they would too with Damian Harris. Yeah, I
- 20:32Speaker 1: think Damian Harris did some wildcat at Alabama. Yeah. I
- 20:35Speaker 1: wouldn't have been surprised if they went in that direction. Yeah,
- 20:38Speaker 1: but I mean they're in a I'll tell you when
- 20:40Speaker 1: when he got when Bailey got Bailey, I don't ever
- 20:43Speaker 1: do that. When Zappy got lit up, Um, there was
- 20:48Speaker 1: a second I was like, yeah, and I would have
- 20:50Speaker 1: they Yeah, they're in a little bit of a pickle
- 20:52Speaker 1: right now. Who So I think because of that, I
- 20:56Speaker 1: don't think it will happen, But I think there's a
- 20:58Speaker 1: chance that Mac comes back this week because I think
- 21:02Speaker 1: that there's something like I'm going to operate under the
- 21:04Speaker 1: premise that lawyer is out. I don't I don't have
- 21:07Speaker 1: any information on that. Yeah, but I just think to
- 21:10Speaker 1: be ruled out that quickly with a concussion means he
- 21:13Speaker 1: had a concussion even though they just called I think
- 21:15Speaker 1: they called him a head injury, right, and then they
- 21:16Speaker 1: ruled him out, and then they ruled him out quickly.
- 21:20Speaker 1: So I think to get out of concussion protocol and
- 21:24Speaker 1: get back. Now, we'll see tomorrow. You know when Wednesday
- 21:27Speaker 1: when they practice, Evan will go out there and give
- 21:29Speaker 1: us the update. If he's out there at practice, then
- 21:32Speaker 1: you know, I think Hoyer will start what if they're
- 21:35Speaker 1: all back concussion? See Mack again, don't confuse what Mac
- 21:41Speaker 1: did last week with practicing. Mac was out there, he
- 21:43Speaker 1: was listening to DP right, so he didn't practice, did
- 21:47Speaker 1: not even take a step. Okay, So I think I'm
- 21:51Speaker 1: with Fred, like, if you have to go into a
- 21:53Speaker 1: week and you're saying, all right, we need to formulate
- 21:56Speaker 1: a real, actual NFL game plan with Bailey Zappy. And
- 22:00Speaker 1: this is no disrespect to a rookie fourth round pick.
- 22:03Speaker 1: We saw him this summer. He's far far away from
- 22:06Speaker 1: being able to operate the offense that you would need.
- 22:10Speaker 1: You can do what you did on Sunday? How many
- 22:12Speaker 1: times can you do that and expect to be competitive,
- 22:14Speaker 1: especially when the other team knows it's coming right now,
- 22:15Speaker 1: They're like, well, if there's a quarterback signing this week,
- 22:19Speaker 1: then we know that the lawyer is definitely not coming back. Well,
- 22:21Speaker 1: I think you'll see a quarterback signing this week. You're
- 22:23Speaker 1: stunned if you don't. I mean, not the practice squad.
- 22:26Speaker 1: But you gotta have some layer of protection, right, Like, Okay,
- 22:30Speaker 1: let's if mac Jones place on Sunday. Are you confident
- 22:33Speaker 1: that he's going to be still playing in the second quarter?
- 22:36Speaker 1: I mean, he couldn't even walk four days ago. Yeah,
- 22:39Speaker 1: And I listen, I'm not telling you he can't play.
- 22:41Speaker 1: I'm telling you sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I don't think they want him to play, but if
- 22:47Speaker 1: Horrier can't go, and it's jes zappy. Then maybe Mac,
- 22:53Speaker 1: you know, feels some pressure. I gotta be out I
- 22:56Speaker 1: gotta be out there for my guys. You know, that's
- 22:59Speaker 1: what happened to Garoppolo, right, you know, all of a sudden,
- 23:02Speaker 1: Brady suspended, Garoppolo separates his shoulder and it's down to
- 23:06Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissette and it's all on Brissette and then he
- 23:09Speaker 1: hurts his thumb and then they kill him. They kill
- 23:12Speaker 1: Garoppolo for not coming back because we need you right.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Oh so it has nothing to do with my shoulder.
- 23:16Speaker 1: It's you need me right. And that's what I'm really
- 23:19Speaker 1: worried that that's what's going to happen to Mac Jones.
- 23:21Speaker 1: You know, Cam is spelled mash. You know, Max spelled backwards.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I'd rather put Harris back there in Wildcat the whole game.
- 23:29Speaker 1: But I was just thinking, like, if you needed a
- 23:30Speaker 1: quarterback who you know, you're not really gonna run your playbook.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Kim's kind of you know, he could just run Wildcat,
- 23:37Speaker 1: he could run option. You thought you thought the playbook
- 23:40Speaker 1: last time? Cam? Can we not? The last couple of years,
- 23:46Speaker 1: we've had a couple I know, like the Jake Dolagala,
- 23:48Speaker 1: we call. We talked about him, um a little bit
- 23:50Speaker 1: on Sunday? Did we have Garret Gilbert? Was he here?
- 23:53Speaker 1: Then he got signed to Washington? Right, Yeah, he had
- 23:57Speaker 1: to play a game for Washington. Yeah. So it's been
- 23:59Speaker 1: a couple of guys that have been around, so I
- 24:01Speaker 1: would see if one of those guys is interested. You know.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I was a little surprised that we didn't hear about
- 24:07Speaker 1: a workout yesterday, but we'll see. How about that guy
- 24:10Speaker 1: Chad that worked out recently? The mustache? Yeah, I looked
- 24:16Speaker 1: like Eli Manning, No thanks? Do you hear him last night?
- 24:19Speaker 1: It was a streaker in the Rams game and then
- 24:22Speaker 1: making fun of him. Bobby Wagner just drills the guy
- 24:25Speaker 1: in Peyton's like, that's it, Bobby, you could jump by
- 24:27Speaker 1: Wagner there. And then Eli just like with that dead pin,
- 24:32Speaker 1: like really undertone. He's like, I mean, if you're in
- 24:35Speaker 1: a streak right, your streak right, your stripped, you go naked,
- 24:38Speaker 1: you go full throttle the were he goes go full throttle?
- 24:42Speaker 1: What are we doing here? Oh? Was the guy in
- 24:46Speaker 1: the in Super Bowl thirty eight that chat him? Was
- 24:48Speaker 1: he was he butt naked? Like he had like you
- 24:51Speaker 1: have like a body sock kind of thing. He had
- 24:54Speaker 1: like a like a something like a shock, but it
- 24:57Speaker 1: was with clear plastic, so it looked from behind like
- 25:01Speaker 1: he was wearing nothing, but he was covered up. I
- 25:05Speaker 1: was so far away, Mike, I don't really know. Well,
- 25:07Speaker 1: I I was zeroed in on it. What's going on?
- 25:11Speaker 1: I actually was next to Fred. I was in the
- 25:14Speaker 1: real that one back when they still let you up there. Yeah,
- 25:18Speaker 1: Matt Schadams claim to fame. That's it smoked on Ye,
- 25:23Speaker 1: he did smoke. He did a good job on that one.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Eight five Pats five hundred ticket hot line eight five
- 25:30Speaker 1: p five hundred. Kind of a weird Sunday. A lot
- 25:34Speaker 1: of close games, a lot of comebacks. You know, it
- 25:38Speaker 1: looked like the bills we're gonna get were loose and
- 25:40Speaker 1: then they just came right back and for going forward
- 25:44Speaker 1: on fourth down. Yeah, it was weird for me. Was
- 25:47Speaker 1: like Mike and I were watching all the one o'clock
- 25:49Speaker 1: games on red Zone, and every game seemed to be
- 25:52Speaker 1: in the same like ridiculously dreary conditions, and all of
- 25:55Speaker 1: a sudden, we go to lambeau Field and it was
- 25:57Speaker 1: like a spotlight was on Green Bay, like the sun
- 26:01Speaker 1: was out it was beautifully like the field was immaculate,
- 26:04Speaker 1: the like you're watching the game like Hinz Field, the
- 26:08Speaker 1: field already looks like you know, they had three three
- 26:10Speaker 1: World Wars took place there, you know, Philadelphia, Baltimore. I
- 26:17Speaker 1: think the Giants game was at MetLife. It was like
- 26:19Speaker 1: driving rain and wind was awful conditions and it just
- 26:23Speaker 1: was the most picturesque site. Was pristine. Yes, like the
- 26:27Speaker 1: my overstated at the field, but absolutely beautiful on TV,
- 26:30Speaker 1: to the point where I said, is this real grass?
- 26:32Speaker 1: And I looked it up. It's a hybrid glass grass.
- 26:35Speaker 1: It's grass in some synthetic um that they weave together,
- 26:40Speaker 1: you know. But it looked smoked. It was really it
- 26:43Speaker 1: was perfect that field, Um, you know blue grass. What
- 26:49Speaker 1: did you get? Jesus? What did in Wisconsin? We I
- 26:52Speaker 1: went to Lombardes. It was in the hotel. I just
- 26:54Speaker 1: sat at the bar and ate there. Nothing. He just
- 26:57Speaker 1: went to the hotel bar. It was lombard He's a steakhouse.
- 27:01Speaker 1: It's nice. Fred. Yeah, we walked around. I went to
- 27:04Speaker 1: a cigar bar and watched a little college football before dinner.
- 27:08Speaker 1: All right, Yeah that was good. Oh cheese, I don't
- 27:11Speaker 1: need that curd yea, And I know that young kids
- 27:17Speaker 1: went bar hopping. We stayed at in Appleton and it's
- 27:20Speaker 1: it's like a nice strip of stores, restaurants and bars,
- 27:25Speaker 1: and so they went bar hopping. But I can't do
- 27:27Speaker 1: that anymore. No, No, you know we're snoring by nine thirty.
- 27:31Speaker 1: That's the old guys. Yeah what I was in asleep.
- 27:35Speaker 1: So we went out in Appleton before. That was a
- 27:37Speaker 1: long time ago though. Yeah, that was like oh six, Yeah,
- 27:40Speaker 1: that was the thirty five nothing game. Yeah, Aaron Rodgers. No, well,
- 27:45Speaker 1: Brett fare started played like a serious right to keep
- 27:47Speaker 1: his fraudulent street going. Remember that one? So all right, um, yeah,
- 27:54Speaker 1: So any any other NFL things you wanted to bring up,
- 27:57Speaker 1: or just Jamie Collins back. I mean that's practice. Talked
- 28:00Speaker 1: about that a little bit on the practice squad, Harvey
- 28:01Speaker 1: LONGI released. We'll see what happens if Cannon did revert
- 28:05Speaker 1: to the practice squad. But I feel like that could
- 28:08Speaker 1: be a promotion to active roster. I think they still
- 28:11Speaker 1: have a spot with could just going on ir last week.
- 28:14Speaker 1: So I don't think anybody would would really question that
- 28:17Speaker 1: move of of bringing him back, And you know, it's
- 28:19Speaker 1: it's just a question of can you know, is Isaiah
- 28:21Speaker 1: win then ready to play that kind of like third
- 28:23Speaker 1: tackle tight end kind of spot. Can he do that?
- 28:25Speaker 1: I'm sure it can, but yeah, I don't know. I
- 28:28Speaker 1: just would feel i'd feel a little bit better about
- 28:30Speaker 1: the right side of the line if Cannon gets in there.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I mean, the Lions who Patriots next opponent forty five
- 28:36Speaker 1: points in a loss. They're leading the league and points
- 28:39Speaker 1: scored and leading the league and points allowed in a
- 28:43Speaker 1: bad way, fast and loose. I mean, it just, you know,
- 28:47Speaker 1: it's like part of me is thinks like, well, the
- 28:49Speaker 1: old Patriots would always kind of beat a team like this,
- 28:51Speaker 1: But I also just think that this is a team
- 28:53Speaker 1: that isn't really a team you can pin down, like,
- 28:55Speaker 1: I mean, you might get them, but they just don't
- 28:57Speaker 1: really seem to care. They'll score at thirty five, they'll
- 29:00Speaker 1: give up thirty seven. I mean, it's just you don't
- 29:02Speaker 1: really know what to expect from them, and I feel
- 29:04Speaker 1: like that's a little bit dangerous. We'll see. I mean,
- 29:06Speaker 1: I think the big part of it is is Saint
- 29:08Speaker 1: Brown and Swift. You know, if those two guys can
- 29:10Speaker 1: come back and give that offensive boost. I mean, they
- 29:13Speaker 1: scored all those points without those two guys probably their
- 29:15Speaker 1: best players. So I think they doesn't sound like the
- 29:17Speaker 1: offense needs a boost. I think they have a good offense.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I do, but I do wonder also if I know Philadelphia,
- 29:26Speaker 1: most of the second half, they would down two scores,
- 29:28Speaker 1: to their credit, they kept kept fighting back thirty eight
- 29:31Speaker 1: thirty five. The Seattle game, most of the second half,
- 29:38Speaker 1: they would down two scores. Again, to their credit, they
- 29:40Speaker 1: kept fighting back forty eight forty five. Now, the other
- 29:43Speaker 1: games that they had, they won a game that they
- 29:45Speaker 1: scored like thirty two or something like that, and thirty
- 29:51Speaker 1: thirty six, actually thirty six twenty seven they beat Washington,
- 29:54Speaker 1: so that's I mean, they won a game they scored
- 29:56Speaker 1: thirty six and the other game was twenty eight twenty
- 29:58Speaker 1: four against Minnesota. Good. So I I do think they
- 30:00Speaker 1: have a good offense, but I wonder if maybe it's
- 30:02Speaker 1: a little inflated in that they're behind in the second
- 30:05Speaker 1: half of some of these games. They have good players,
- 30:09Speaker 1: so they're able to make some plays in situations where
- 30:12Speaker 1: maybe the defense is a little different. Yeah, I don't know,
- 30:15Speaker 1: Like I haven't watched the games closely. I'm just that's
- 30:18Speaker 1: very superficial. But Mike's right. DeAndre Swift and Jamal Williams
- 30:23Speaker 1: both are capable running backs, averaging uh, you know, well
- 30:26Speaker 1: over for a carry in Swiss cases lay the league
- 30:29Speaker 1: and five point nine yards per carrying in their rushing game. Yeah,
- 30:33Speaker 1: that's exactly right, Freddie, five point nine. And so that
- 30:37Speaker 1: they've rushed, they've run the ball well. Saint Brown has
- 30:41Speaker 1: been as productive as virtually any receiver not named Cooper Cup.
- 30:44Speaker 1: You know, twenty three catches in three games. Is that's
- 30:48Speaker 1: no joke? Eight catches a game. I think Josh Reynolds
- 30:52Speaker 1: is a solid NFL receiver. T J. Hawkinson had a
- 30:54Speaker 1: career day at tight end the other day. And I
- 30:57Speaker 1: think Jared Goff is not going to be confused with
- 31:00Speaker 1: a top ten guy, but I think he's with some experience.
- 31:04Speaker 1: I think he's gotten better and I think he's a
- 31:06Speaker 1: decent fit for this offense. I think that he's eleven touchdowns,
- 31:09Speaker 1: three picks. So I don't I'm not telling you their
- 31:11Speaker 1: offense stinks and it's overrated and all that. I think
- 31:14Speaker 1: it's a pretty good offense. I just don't know if
- 31:16Speaker 1: it's one of those offenses that you know, I mean
- 31:20Speaker 1: you could just slow him down. You're not going to
- 31:21Speaker 1: stop him, No, I think you can probably force some
- 31:23Speaker 1: mistakes with these guys. Yeah, Like I like their offensive
- 31:25Speaker 1: line too. I mean I think Frank Ragnow is a
- 31:27Speaker 1: guy that that I think the Patriots were kind of
- 31:29Speaker 1: interested in sewell from from last year. You know who's
- 31:32Speaker 1: who's a really good right maybe the best player in
- 31:34Speaker 1: that draft class. You know, it's him and Slater. Yeah,
- 31:36Speaker 1: So I mean I think they give go off some time,
- 31:37Speaker 1: they're able to open up some holes, and I mean,
- 31:39Speaker 1: I you know, I just wouldn't be surprised either way.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Like I think if they came in and all the
- 31:43Speaker 1: Patriots they kind of figured this offense out and shut
- 31:45Speaker 1: them down. I mean that's maybe the old school. Yeah,
- 31:47Speaker 1: I approached to it. I'd be stunned if that. If
- 31:49Speaker 1: they hold him on her twenty, I'd be shocked, but
- 31:51Speaker 1: I think i'd be I'd be really surprised if they
- 31:53Speaker 1: gave up more than thirty. So, I don't know, we're
- 31:55Speaker 1: kind of stuck in that Middlaria with these guys. Yeah,
- 31:57Speaker 1: I wouldn't really shocked if they're under twenty, but I'd
- 31:59Speaker 1: be shocked if they got shot down, you know the
- 32:01Speaker 1: words like it's one of those you know, two hundred
- 32:03Speaker 1: and twelve yards of offense and you know twelve points.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I'd be shocked if it was one of those days.
- 32:08Speaker 1: All right? Eight five five five hundred is a ticket
- 32:11Speaker 1: hot line. Web radio at Patriots dot com is the
- 32:13Speaker 1: email address. Let's turn to our listeners. See what they
- 32:17Speaker 1: have to say. Patty's an agawam on the East ticket
- 32:20Speaker 1: hot line. What's up, Patty stub? Gentlemen, Hey, hey, so
- 32:25Speaker 1: I wanted to do a couple would you rather? And
- 32:27Speaker 1: then throw out my state of the Patriots so far
- 32:29Speaker 1: through four weeks. So this is regarding signing a quarterback
- 32:34Speaker 1: on the practice squad? Would you rather Cam Newton or
- 32:39Speaker 1: Danny at Ling? I want no, I have no interest
- 32:42Speaker 1: in either one of those players. Yeah, yeah, but you
- 32:44Speaker 1: have to choose Paul. That's the quarterback I don't even know. Yeah,
- 32:51Speaker 1: I can't say Kim coming up in this year's draft?
- 32:55Speaker 1: Would you rather than get a dynamic tight end with
- 32:58Speaker 1: their first pick, or like a franchise tackle right or left,
- 33:04Speaker 1: franchise tackle. I'm gonna stun you by saying that over
- 33:07Speaker 1: a dynamic tight end right, Like what you know like
- 33:11Speaker 1: George Kittle like to me, how about t J Hodkinson.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I'll take that. I'll take the tackle. Take the tackle, Okay,
- 33:17Speaker 1: at this point, probably the tackle. Like if you had
- 33:21Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts or with Sean Slater, which one would you take?
- 33:26Speaker 1: I would take Slater. I mean, I mean, we'll see
- 33:29Speaker 1: what Pitts ends up being. But I just think it's
- 33:31Speaker 1: hard to dominate like that. Yeah, it's pretty good, and
- 33:35Speaker 1: through four games, team much but um, through four games
- 33:45Speaker 1: at least, this team looks like a reasonable fac simile
- 33:48Speaker 1: of last year's team. And I'm just hoping that when
- 33:52Speaker 1: Mac is back and towards the end of the year,
- 33:53Speaker 1: that we we actually see them start beating some of
- 33:56Speaker 1: these better teams in the league. You know, hopefully they
- 33:59Speaker 1: pull out a win again, Miami can steal one against Buffalotle.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Bit at least through or four weeks that it kind
- 34:04Speaker 1: of looks the same as last year. Well that's all
- 34:07Speaker 1: got kid, Okay, I mean I think this year could
- 34:10Speaker 1: be better than last year if Mac kept playing and progressed.
- 34:15Speaker 1: It's all about Mac, It's all about Max. But wouldn't
- 34:18Speaker 1: you say through the three games that he played it
- 34:20Speaker 1: looked very similar to last year. Um, because I would
- 34:23Speaker 1: kind of agree with with Patty. I'm sure, yeah, I
- 34:25Speaker 1: would say so generally. Yeah, I mean it's it's I mean,
- 34:28Speaker 1: it's not really hard to see this season looking a
- 34:30Speaker 1: lot like last year with the games the way they've
- 34:31Speaker 1: lined up, and you know, I think that that's the
- 34:34Speaker 1: question that last that last month of the season, those
- 34:36Speaker 1: last six eight games. How can they you know, beat
- 34:39Speaker 1: those good teams. That's that's the big one. Let's go
- 34:41Speaker 1: to Tyler in Connecticut. What's up Tyler? Hey, guys, how
- 34:45Speaker 1: are you doing good? Hey, so first time Cohen I've
- 34:48Speaker 1: been listening to since twenty nineteen. I appreciate all the
- 34:51Speaker 1: insight you guys give us on the Patriots. Um, my
- 34:53Speaker 1: question is about injuries. Have the Patriots always been like
- 34:58Speaker 1: this as far as not being a straight answer on injuries?
- 35:01Speaker 1: I mean I go on NFL Network and I see
- 35:03Speaker 1: the next day teams saying statuses of players the next day.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Is this a tactic of Bill Belichick or yeah, something
- 35:10Speaker 1: that he's always done. Every team's a little different, Like
- 35:12Speaker 1: I've I've seen coaches like bring out their team doctor
- 35:16Speaker 1: and actually have him answer questions to end in the
- 35:20Speaker 1: extreme of what we do. And it's always been like that. Um,
- 35:24Speaker 1: there was a I remember when Parcels with here, we
- 35:27Speaker 1: got tagged a fine for not putting something accurately on
- 35:32Speaker 1: the injury report. And after that, like they went overboard
- 35:36Speaker 1: the other way. They list everybody. Belichick's done the same thing.
- 35:40Speaker 1: They they they do the absolute minimum always, They've always
- 35:45Speaker 1: been somewhat limited with their information regarded injuries. It's you know,
- 35:49Speaker 1: it's yeah, I just I feel like I saw it
- 35:51Speaker 1: more of this season with Tek and time Mountgomery, and
- 35:56Speaker 1: it just I wasn't too sure how that works. And
- 35:59Speaker 1: you know Belichick got that from Parcels he did. You know,
- 36:03Speaker 1: Parcel's famously said I'm in the business of getting information,
- 36:06Speaker 1: not giving it. So it was always the bare minimum.
- 36:12Speaker 1: Fair enough. My last question for you guys the rookie
- 36:15Speaker 1: running back. I know Harrison on the practice squad. You're strong.
- 36:18Speaker 1: I see him on the sideline sitting there. You guys
- 36:20Speaker 1: think you'll get in there it all this season? I mean,
- 36:23Speaker 1: right now, you don't need him. And and you know this,
- 36:25Speaker 1: I hear that on the blog. Okay, now we need
- 36:27Speaker 1: to get strong involved. No, we don't. We don't need
- 36:30Speaker 1: to do that. It isn't the whole point of splitting
- 36:32Speaker 1: the carries between Harris and Stevenson. So you don't need
- 36:35Speaker 1: another guy, right right, Like he's there, and it's good
- 36:37Speaker 1: that he's there because of probably one of them is
- 36:39Speaker 1: going to get dinged up at some point. Then you'll
- 36:42Speaker 1: know if that happens, then you and then you'll use
- 36:44Speaker 1: you'll need some the Montgomery might be back by that,
- 36:46Speaker 1: thanks Tyler, right right, yeah, But like it's always like, Okay,
- 36:51Speaker 1: we've got these guys, now, let's get this guy. Yeah,
- 36:52Speaker 1: and listen, he's just he's just a rookie. He's coming
- 36:56Speaker 1: out of one double a. Um, I'm willing to be paid.
- 37:00Speaker 1: I haven't really seen anything from Pierre Strong yet. No,
- 37:03Speaker 1: you know, it doesn't mean like you you made a
- 37:05Speaker 1: point earlier in the show, Freddie, you know, you know
- 37:07Speaker 1: Cole Strange is starting. Um. Jack Jones and Marcus Jones
- 37:11Speaker 1: both had good contributions on Sunday, and Bailey Zappy stepped
- 37:14Speaker 1: off the bench and did enough to put you in
- 37:17Speaker 1: position that you had a chance. It's a pretty good
- 37:19Speaker 1: draft class, you know, Shaping up is a pretty good draft. Claus.
- 37:22Speaker 1: It's a long way to go. It's the MVP who
- 37:24Speaker 1: never played right. Um, he'll get better and better as
- 37:26Speaker 1: the weeks go by, but you know, I think there's
- 37:32Speaker 1: this desire that, like every guy's got to be great,
- 37:35Speaker 1: and you know we're wasting this opportunity. You know, like
- 37:38Speaker 1: Pierre Strong really didn't do a lot in training camp.
- 37:41Speaker 1: What was it your feeling on James White when he
- 37:43Speaker 1: was here his rookie year and I mean didn't really play,
- 37:45Speaker 1: But did you have any like did he I thought
- 37:48Speaker 1: he looked good in the summer, but he didn't get
- 37:50Speaker 1: any chances to play. But he was also behind. Like
- 37:52Speaker 1: the difference to me is he was behind an established
- 37:55Speaker 1: guy at that spot, whereas the opportunity is there for
- 37:58Speaker 1: the take in if he has the ability to be
- 38:01Speaker 1: a third down guy. There's no one here, yeah, I
- 38:03Speaker 1: mean there's no James White, there's no Brandon Bolden, and
- 38:06Speaker 1: now there's no Time Montgomery. There's an opportunity if he
- 38:09Speaker 1: was willing, you know, if he was able to fill that.
- 38:11Speaker 1: I think. I think it's just one of the bigger
- 38:13Speaker 1: surprises for me from the summer was just not really
- 38:16Speaker 1: ever seeing anything out of either of those guys that
- 38:19Speaker 1: you know gave you pause. I mean I would think
- 38:21Speaker 1: even with like Ridley and Vereen when they came in
- 38:23Speaker 1: or you know, that's why I asked about James White.
- 38:25Speaker 1: I don't really remember him in the preseason, but you know,
- 38:27Speaker 1: at least you knew out of the gate that, all right,
- 38:29Speaker 1: there's something there. I don't really like it. I like
- 38:31Speaker 1: the James White draft picks, so I think I'm kind
- 38:33Speaker 1: of a little biased on that. Maybe I saw more
- 38:35Speaker 1: than was really there on the positive side, because you
- 38:38Speaker 1: know how I am. I have my pets both ways,
- 38:41Speaker 1: and I'll admit I'm too harsh on guys that I
- 38:43Speaker 1: initially right off, So I'll gladly admit that sometimes my
- 38:47Speaker 1: biases were four and against me. Yeah, I think I
- 38:52Speaker 1: think James White was just a steady guy. So he
- 38:54Speaker 1: never really liked amazed you in the summer when he
- 38:58Speaker 1: first got here, but he was just just steady. No,
- 39:00Speaker 1: but he was behind Verene. Yeah, you never really got
- 39:02Speaker 1: a chance. One more thing to bring up to that
- 39:04Speaker 1: I don't think really gets mentioned. I think I think
- 39:06Speaker 1: Stevenson's still got some issues in past protection like I
- 39:09Speaker 1: think that those are that that's something that is a
- 39:12Speaker 1: problem at times that I think people are putting too
- 39:14Speaker 1: much on the offensive line with him a little bit
- 39:15Speaker 1: on third down. I know one of I know one
- 39:17Speaker 1: of the sacks he had a chance should have chipped
- 39:19Speaker 1: the guy. But I I there was another one too,
- 39:23Speaker 1: with another one of the sacks where it was to
- 39:24Speaker 1: the left side, and it was kind of him and
- 39:26Speaker 1: Trent trying to work a two man combo coming off
- 39:28Speaker 1: the left side. I think they put it on Trent,
- 39:30Speaker 1: but it's just it doesn't look like he's got it
- 39:32Speaker 1: all down just yet in past protection. Uh, let's go
- 39:35Speaker 1: to Leon, who's in Wisconsin. What's up Leon? Kind of Hey,
- 39:40Speaker 1: I have a fun question, so nice. What do you
- 39:43Speaker 1: guys think the chances are that Bailey, Zappais and mac
- 39:48Speaker 1: Jones thinks becomes like a Brady and bled those situations.
- 39:51Speaker 1: You guys think that happened. I don't think it. I
- 39:54Speaker 1: don't think that would happen. I don't. Yeah, I don't
- 39:57Speaker 1: think Zappy's that good. Yeah, I I agree with Fred,
- 40:00Speaker 1: I'd agree with I got one more question. I don't
- 40:03Speaker 1: you know how Odell Beckham's always flirted with the idea
- 40:05Speaker 1: going to the Patriots or we heard tedline. What are
- 40:07Speaker 1: the chances you guys think we actually bring him on
- 40:10Speaker 1: board this season. Probably not high. Yeah I wouldn't, but
- 40:14Speaker 1: if he got healthy and he wanted a job, and
- 40:16Speaker 1: I mean I could maybe, but I mean he's still
- 40:18Speaker 1: all around the Rams, right like then they have him
- 40:19Speaker 1: like on the fields, like the Rams could probably use them. Yeah,
- 40:23Speaker 1: they mean they do because it's that whole passing attack.
- 40:27Speaker 1: It is just Cooper Stafford anybody else. And Stafford got
- 40:30Speaker 1: a Super Bowl and I think he's dropped off. Um
- 40:34Speaker 1: but yeah, I think Cooper Cup has forty three catches
- 40:37Speaker 1: and the next highest guy has like ten, so crazy
- 40:39Speaker 1: it was him in Saint Brown probably jeez yeah jee uh.
- 40:44Speaker 1: All right, five past five hundred Web radio at Patriots
- 40:48Speaker 1: dot Com is the email address, So let's go. So,
- 40:51Speaker 1: who starts this week? Freddie? Who starts a quarterback this week?
- 40:55Speaker 1: It's Hoyer healthy. We don't know any of this information.
- 40:58Speaker 1: I'm asking for you to give me your thoughts today.
- 41:00Speaker 1: I mean, as you like to say in the picks contest,
- 41:03Speaker 1: it's not like anything's on the line. I mean, the
- 41:05Speaker 1: whole too of thing is, you know, on everyone's mind.
- 41:08Speaker 1: So everyone's going to air on the side of caution.
- 41:12Speaker 1: See to me, it has nothing to do with that.
- 41:14Speaker 1: If he has a concussion, he has a concussion. If
- 41:15Speaker 1: he doesn't, he can play. I think he has a concussion.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Could he have a concussion and play? Is that I mean?
- 41:22Speaker 1: I'm saying if he has a concussion, he came up
- 41:28Speaker 1: from Sunday, If he had a concussion from Sunday and
- 41:31Speaker 1: got cleared, then I think he should play. But I
- 41:34Speaker 1: don't think he will get clear I don't think I
- 41:36Speaker 1: think he has a concussion. Like I don't think this
- 41:38Speaker 1: was like because of what happened to too where they
- 41:40Speaker 1: said no, no, no, you have a concussion, which I
- 41:42Speaker 1: think a lot of people, not you, Fred, but a
- 41:43Speaker 1: lot of people. I think on Sunday there were a
- 41:45Speaker 1: lot of concussions. A lot of guys were out of
- 41:48Speaker 1: games quickly due to concussion. I think it was like eleven,
- 41:52Speaker 1: you know, something like that. I don't just think that
- 41:56Speaker 1: that's an overreaction to what happened to Tooa, but you know,
- 41:58Speaker 1: I think that's part of it. But I don't think
- 42:01Speaker 1: it's just an overreaction. You either have a concussion or
- 42:04Speaker 1: you don't. Well, you know, it's funny because like they've
- 42:06Speaker 1: been touting, oh, over the last x amount of years,
- 42:09Speaker 1: concussions have gone down because of the safety measures. Is
- 42:12Speaker 1: that why you know they go down? I also loved
- 42:16Speaker 1: the stats that came out in the summer with those
- 42:20Speaker 1: Guardian caps touting how few because they were they were
- 42:24Speaker 1: comparing training camp to training camp. Well, do you think
- 42:26Speaker 1: it has anything to do with the fact that I
- 42:28Speaker 1: don't know. I watched every Patriots practice. I never saw
- 42:30Speaker 1: them hits, right, So it's probably hard to get a
- 42:33Speaker 1: concussion when you're not hitting anymore in training camp. Let's
- 42:36Speaker 1: say a dozen players this Sunday twelve. Yeah, and again,
- 42:40Speaker 1: I know, a concussion is a hard thing to diagnose, Like,
- 42:42Speaker 1: there's no, it's not a broken bone. It's the old cliche, right,
- 42:45Speaker 1: you can't just put an X ray up and say, oh, yep, concussion.
- 42:48Speaker 1: So yeah, if a guy has a concussion, the medical
- 42:52Speaker 1: people right now probably gonna look at this and say,
- 42:55Speaker 1: let's make sure we're extra careful with Brian Hoyer, and
- 42:59Speaker 1: before we clear him, we're gonna make sure we're gonna
- 43:01Speaker 1: have all our eyes dotted and t's crossed and make
- 43:05Speaker 1: sure this is above board. Yeah, I think there's probably
- 43:07Speaker 1: something that going on. Point Yeah, that's where I think
- 43:09Speaker 1: the Tua impact comes in. I don't think Brian Hoyer
- 43:12Speaker 1: was forced to leave the game on Sunday with a
- 43:15Speaker 1: concussion because of what happened to Toua. You know, I
- 43:18Speaker 1: just saw the video of Shack Leonard for the Colts.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Did you see that he was out? Like that's not
- 43:23Speaker 1: because of what happened to Toua, No, but that he
- 43:26Speaker 1: that he wasn't allowed to come back in the game.
- 43:28Speaker 1: But I rod Taylor went down and left like he
- 43:30Speaker 1: left the ball, like he was like his he was limp,
- 43:33Speaker 1: his body was like he had lost the ball. Yeah.
- 43:36Speaker 1: But if someone did this week what Tua did last,
- 43:39Speaker 1: you know, two weeks, two weeks ago, he'd be out. Yeah,
- 43:42Speaker 1: you know, because now it's like, I don't care what
- 43:44Speaker 1: the protocol, let's make correct. This guy's wobbling all over
- 43:48Speaker 1: the correct Whereas Brian Hoyer immediately went off the field
- 43:51Speaker 1: himself and went right to the tent. Yeah, and then
- 43:54Speaker 1: quickly from the tent to the locker room. Yeah, you know.
- 43:57Speaker 1: So so then I get some exactly little context. AJ
- 44:00Speaker 1: mccarn's working out for the Giants today, So showing you
- 44:05Speaker 1: who's out there, I wouldn't be surprised to hear a
- 44:08Speaker 1: name attached to the Patriots at some point soon, because
- 44:11Speaker 1: I think whether Mac Jones, Brian Hoyer, and let's just
- 44:14Speaker 1: say all three of them are healthy, it's tenuous, right, Yeah, Like,
- 44:18Speaker 1: if Mac Jones is able to play on Sunday, can
- 44:22Speaker 1: you go into that game saying that, I'm pretty sure
- 44:23Speaker 1: he'll still be playing in the second quarter, right, I
- 44:27Speaker 1: got to see him jog out. And Brian Hoyer, you
- 44:29Speaker 1: don't have any idea probably now if he's gonna I mean,
- 44:32Speaker 1: unless he's already out of protocol, which I think is
- 44:36Speaker 1: highly unlikely. And has has Hoyer had a concussion history
- 44:40Speaker 1: in the past, I don't needed to make a dive
- 44:42Speaker 1: on that. I feel like he has. I mean, I
- 44:46Speaker 1: mean I always sort of operate out of the premise
- 44:49Speaker 1: that these guys all have concussion histories, because they've all
- 44:52Speaker 1: played football at a high level for a long time,
- 44:55Speaker 1: even rookies. Reno has a question, why why can't you
- 44:59Speaker 1: all have all fifty three players active on game day
- 45:02Speaker 1: like you do? Why do you have to have an
- 45:05Speaker 1: inactive list? Yeah. The short answer to that, as Belichick
- 45:08Speaker 1: has explained it to me in the past, is that
- 45:11Speaker 1: not all teams have fifty three healthy players. Right, so
- 45:17Speaker 1: there would be a chance if you have a fifty
- 45:18Speaker 1: three man roster and you don't have any injuries, but
- 45:22Speaker 1: the team you're playing has, you know, five guys that
- 45:24Speaker 1: are hurt. Well, now now it's fifty three healthy bodies,
- 45:28Speaker 1: you know, against forty eight healthy bodies. That's why they
- 45:31Speaker 1: feel like if you have an inactive list, that more
- 45:33Speaker 1: than likely it's going to make up all of your
- 45:37Speaker 1: your injured players. Yeah, and then his second question is
- 45:40Speaker 1: did players not change teams before free agency was a thing?
- 45:46Speaker 1: Obviously far less often, but yeah, there were trades and whatnot.
- 45:50Speaker 1: But you know, Patriots famously traded Jim Plunkett to San
- 45:53Speaker 1: Francisco for three first round picks and and more. You know,
- 45:58Speaker 1: Dan Pastorini and and Stabler were traded for each other
- 46:02Speaker 1: in the early eighties. Um, so there are there are
- 46:05Speaker 1: examples of guys that change teams without necessarily like getting
- 46:09Speaker 1: released and just getting picked up by somebody else. But yeah,
- 46:11Speaker 1: obviously free agency has changed that. Yeah, thanks to Matt Morrel,
- 46:15Speaker 1: he sent me a thing. Um, just a little history.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Hoyer Hire had two concussions in less than a month
- 46:20Speaker 1: with the Texans back in twenty fifteen, so definitely has
- 46:23Speaker 1: some history there. Back to the phones, Williams and Philam.
- 46:27Speaker 1: What's up William, Hey Bred? How are you doing good? Hey?
- 46:32Speaker 1: Fall I just want to clear fro something When you
- 46:34Speaker 1: said about what was the linebacker camera growing that the
- 46:39Speaker 1: Pages drafted, he said he was a fifth round pick. Yeah.
- 46:42Speaker 1: What I was trying to explain when I was trying
- 46:43Speaker 1: to explain to you was this day was big on him.
- 46:46Speaker 1: So they passed up on Devin Lloyd or even trying
- 46:49Speaker 1: to get maybe rightfall rokarn Smith. You see what I'm saying,
- 46:53Speaker 1: But now you had to go get Jamie Collins. But
- 46:56Speaker 1: how do you know that you see what I'm saying?
- 46:59Speaker 1: How do you know they passed up on Devin Lloyd
- 47:01Speaker 1: because of Cameron mcgron, because they went with the left guard. No,
- 47:07Speaker 1: I understand that they went with a left guard, But
- 47:10Speaker 1: why do you think that that was because they had
- 47:12Speaker 1: Cameron mcgron. Okay, I mean, I don't mean you might
- 47:16Speaker 1: be you might be one hundred percent right, but I
- 47:19Speaker 1: think that they very well could have loved Devin Lloyd,
- 47:23Speaker 1: w NA Kobe Deane and they liked Cole Strange better. Right,
- 47:28Speaker 1: I like I don't know what mcgron has to do
- 47:30Speaker 1: with it. Yeah, that's that's my point. But I also
- 47:33Speaker 1: don't know. And this is one of the things about
- 47:35Speaker 1: the Patriots that you you rarely find out these kinds
- 47:38Speaker 1: of things. Sometimes little nuggets trickle out. They don't let
- 47:42Speaker 1: you know what the aboard looks like. And for all
- 47:46Speaker 1: I know, it was going to be a guard all
- 47:49Speaker 1: the way. Thanks William. You know, I don't know, but
- 47:54Speaker 1: I know. There was a lot of talk in the
- 47:56Speaker 1: media about the young linebackers that had really yet to play,
- 48:01Speaker 1: the Ouchs, the Jennings, the mcgrons, to a lesser extent,
- 48:07Speaker 1: ray Kua McMillan, who got hurt last year. There was
- 48:09Speaker 1: a lot of talk about those guys this offseason. My
- 48:13Speaker 1: guess is that William is somewhat right in that when
- 48:18Speaker 1: the local reporters are talking up those kinds of guys,
- 48:21Speaker 1: generally someone's telling them this is why we didn't this
- 48:25Speaker 1: is why we didn't take. We're high on these guys. Here,
- 48:28Speaker 1: I would argue, that's foolish for a fifth round pick
- 48:33Speaker 1: who's never played in the league. You're not going to take,
- 48:35Speaker 1: you know, if you don't like Devin Lloyder, you don't
- 48:37Speaker 1: like anybody else, that's fine, But I'm not going to
- 48:41Speaker 1: ignore a highly touted linebacker because I have a fifth
- 48:44Speaker 1: round pick coming off a town acl who's never played
- 48:47Speaker 1: a snap in the league. Right, Does that make any sense?
- 48:50Speaker 1: And I don't think Belichick does that. No, No, And
- 48:52Speaker 1: I mean and I even I just think it was
- 48:54Speaker 1: more about the veterans. It was about Wilson. I mean, unfortunately,
- 48:57Speaker 1: it was about Toby. They like him, they see him
- 48:59Speaker 1: as one of their guys, as an inside off the
- 49:01Speaker 1: ball linebacker. Um. And as you said, McMillan, I think
- 49:04Speaker 1: it's moment more about them. I don't know. I just
- 49:07Speaker 1: wonder if there was anybody ever inside this building saying
- 49:10Speaker 1: we're really high on Cameron mcgron, Like, I mean, no
- 49:12Speaker 1: offense to him, but he just seems like a mobile
- 49:15Speaker 1: special team Z flyer coming off an injury. I don't
- 49:19Speaker 1: I never really expected him to be mister All World
- 49:22Speaker 1: linebacker this year, right, And you know, I think he's been.
- 49:25Speaker 1: I think he's been battling some injuries right now too
- 49:28Speaker 1: while on the practice squad. UM. But it is interesting
- 49:31Speaker 1: when they bring back Collins, they let go Longy, so
- 49:36Speaker 1: maybe they do kind of look at mcgron as a
- 49:38Speaker 1: guy that might be able to do these things if
- 49:40Speaker 1: he's healthy, because longye, I mean I think as recently
- 49:43Speaker 1: as two weeks ago was elevated, right, wasn't the active
- 49:46Speaker 1: rush like two weeks agad one elevation yep, And now
- 49:49Speaker 1: evidently he's working out with the Ravens. Yeah, just like that.
- 49:53Speaker 1: Um yeah, I don't know. I just I think that
- 49:58Speaker 1: we didn't see him get any time in this summer,
- 50:00Speaker 1: Like he got no meaning not a single meaningful snap mcron.
- 50:04Speaker 1: There wasn't one time where it seemed like they even
- 50:06Speaker 1: gave him a shot, whereas you couldn't say that about
- 50:08Speaker 1: Jack Jones, Marcus Jones. I mean, you know, I saw
- 50:11Speaker 1: these other guys out there at least. Look why I
- 50:14Speaker 1: haven't really had much you know, Um, I haven't had
- 50:19Speaker 1: much optimism on Ronnie Perkins for the same reasons another
- 50:22Speaker 1: guy left out of that right list. We just haven't
- 50:25Speaker 1: seen him get any what I would say high level reps.
- 50:29Speaker 1: And by high level, I mean at least with the
- 50:32Speaker 1: first two groups. Yep. You know, like Josh Bledsoe got
- 50:36Speaker 1: a ton of reps with you know, with guys that
- 50:39Speaker 1: are gonna play I don't think he'll ever be out
- 50:41Speaker 1: there unless you have a rash of injuries at safety.
- 50:44Speaker 1: But he got a ton of reps playing like next
- 50:47Speaker 1: to Devin mccordy, even with the depth that they already
- 50:49Speaker 1: have established at safety. Yeah, Bill and DC happily moral victory. Tuesday.
- 50:55Speaker 1: When the schedule came out, I had the Patriots record
- 50:57Speaker 1: at one and three, so I can't be too unhappy.
- 51:00Speaker 1: And then I had them going four and one for
- 51:01Speaker 1: the next five with an automatic win against Detroit. Now,
- 51:05Speaker 1: with Matt probably out, I'm kind of pessimistic about this Sunday.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Detroit gives up a ton of points, but they also
- 51:11Speaker 1: score a ton. In fact, they're averaging thirty five a
- 51:14Speaker 1: game for tops in the league. If Zappi's a starter,
- 51:17Speaker 1: I have a hard time believing the Patriots will get
- 51:19Speaker 1: into the thirties. How do you guys see this game
- 51:22Speaker 1: playing out? I need someone to talk me off the ledge.
- 51:25Speaker 1: I agree with you, I think you fail out thirty
- 51:29Speaker 1: five points. That's going to be an awfully tall task
- 51:32Speaker 1: for Bailey Zappy. If it's Mac Jones and he's healthy
- 51:34Speaker 1: enough to do it, maybe I don't feel great about
- 51:38Speaker 1: that either. Agree they got to find a way to
- 51:40Speaker 1: keep Detroit in the low twenties not the mid thirties.
- 51:43Speaker 1: It's just a really interesting game. I mean, like you know,
- 51:45Speaker 1: it's just and on top of it, the Patriots were
- 51:47Speaker 1: winning their shrowbacks, which just adds a whole other level
- 51:49Speaker 1: of emotion to it for me. Can't lose this one,
- 51:52Speaker 1: can't lose. But just what I mean, And after watching
- 51:54Speaker 1: the Lions on on Hard Knocks, it's just their style
- 51:57Speaker 1: of a team, like it's it's it's a really really
- 52:01Speaker 1: crazy matchup that like, I just I think they need
- 52:03Speaker 1: to keep the game under control because if it gets
- 52:05Speaker 1: fast and loose and it's getting back and forth and
- 52:07Speaker 1: mistakes and mistakes and mistakes on both sides, I don't
- 52:10Speaker 1: think that's good for the Patriots. Stephen Carmel, New York.
- 52:13Speaker 1: The game reminded me a lot of Dallas from last year.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Had chances to win. Both gave up brutal third and
- 52:18Speaker 1: longs and should have beaten the more talented team, but didn't.
- 52:22Speaker 1: I digress two questions. What former Patriots defensive back does
- 52:26Speaker 1: Jack Jones remind you of? Second question for Paul or
- 52:29Speaker 1: Mike in the postgame show, What is the what happened
- 52:33Speaker 1: from the Bad List and that you are right guy
- 52:35Speaker 1: from the injured clips from well that You're all right
- 52:39Speaker 1: guys from the Sandler movie. Yeah, yeah, that's my boy.
- 52:44Speaker 1: What happened? I'm not sure what will happened? That it
- 52:48Speaker 1: might have been from a mighty wind that one of
- 52:50Speaker 1: the Christopher guest movies. Um god him blanking on his name,
- 52:54Speaker 1: the famous actor did to have that with one of
- 52:56Speaker 1: his bits. But sorry, what was the first question? Um? What?
- 53:01Speaker 1: What defensive? Former defensive of somebody who's small and scrappy.
- 53:08Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, he feels like one of
- 53:09Speaker 1: those terrants wheatly guys. I mean, you know, I don't know.
- 53:11Speaker 1: I'm just throwing at a guy who was a little
- 53:13Speaker 1: bit small. But he is. Yeah, that's that's not that's
- 53:15Speaker 1: not bad. But is around the ball a lot? I
- 53:18Speaker 1: don't know. Yeah, I don't know about Ellis Hobbs a
- 53:22Speaker 1: little bit. Maybe I was gonna say Hobbs maybe a
- 53:24Speaker 1: little okay, yeah, okay, I don't really have any anyone
- 53:27Speaker 1: that he reminds me of. It's very skinny he is.
- 53:31Speaker 1: He's gonna need to put on some ball and he's
- 53:32Speaker 1: gonna need to learn how to tackle because you can't
- 53:35Speaker 1: just grab the ball in your attempt to tackle. He
- 53:38Speaker 1: go up a lot of yards the other day doing that.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Now without him, they're not in the game. You don't.
- 53:43Speaker 1: You don't get that pick six. You're not even in
- 53:44Speaker 1: that game. You know, you want to play the Belichick
- 53:46Speaker 1: two plays thing, the pick six and the drop touchdown
- 53:50Speaker 1: thirty one seventeen. Yeah, what about the touchdown that went
- 53:53Speaker 1: off after the playhog expire? No, no, I only we're
- 53:55Speaker 1: only allowed too We're only allowed too plays. Would you
- 53:59Speaker 1: think of that? Fred? Did you happen to see the clipper?
- 54:02Speaker 1: Wasn't like in the building. I mean, I don't think that.
- 54:03Speaker 1: I don't think people in the press box realized which
- 54:05Speaker 1: one touchdown came like three three to four seconds after
- 54:11Speaker 1: the play clocks? Oh I know, yeah, yeah, Like, I
- 54:14Speaker 1: don't know if I've ever seen one that egregious. That
- 54:16Speaker 1: was a bad one. I'd say one more thing too,
- 54:18Speaker 1: after watching the game. I'm not one to kill the rest,
- 54:21Speaker 1: but this was just a terribly officiated game. How many
- 54:23Speaker 1: times did they point the wrong direction for a penalt
- 54:25Speaker 1: call called the wrong side? I mean, it's just some
- 54:28Speaker 1: of the calls were missed, Some of the calls were
- 54:30Speaker 1: taking the place. It was bad. Preach it, Broye. These
- 54:34Speaker 1: are my people. God, I hate the officials, I thought.
- 54:38Speaker 1: Although I thought the horse caller was a good call,
- 54:41Speaker 1: by the rule, Yeah, by the rule. He didn't make
- 54:44Speaker 1: initial contact with the name plate. I thought it was
- 54:47Speaker 1: Tiki tack and didn't need to be called. Yeah, you
- 54:49Speaker 1: know it was close for that, But I mean, I
- 54:54Speaker 1: understand why they called it. I get what you're saying. Fred.
- 54:57Speaker 1: I just like to me when you can let them play.
- 55:01Speaker 1: I know paulse tired of the rest. But if you're

- 1:05:43Speaker 1: be on the lookout for great name. Fred came up

- 1:05:48Speaker 1: people listening you this is the first people that have

- 1:06:08Speaker 1: them just go back and forth with each other. They
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: have a unique relationship, so I think the people that
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: have listened to them for a while. No, So I'll
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: be good. It'll be good. I know. I'm sure Evan
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: will be excited to uh and he'll still be on
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: our show, you know. Yeah, I was saying, you know,
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: I mean to continue Wednesday Thursday, come in after practice,

- 1:06:32Speaker 1: so'll be good. I'm excited adding to the Patriots podcast

- 1:06:44Speaker 1: James writes in he says, simple question, did Bailey Zappy
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: earn himself a chance to start if Mack is out?
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: I know Axel Hoyer has the experience, but is it
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: worth finding out what Zappy could do with a game
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: plan design around him in a week or practice. If
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: Paul is right and Matt won't be with the team
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: as the starter in five years is it worth seeing
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: if Zappy has anything worth developing? I mean, I get
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: why everybody wants it to be him. It's just the
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: element of unknown and the potential that's I don't mean,
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: do you why why would you want to? I mean,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: like Ichael, but I can say that I don't I'm
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: not sure that mac Jones is the guy in the future,
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: But why wouldn't you want that to be what it is? Oh? Yeah,
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: well that you're already a year plus into that development
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: and we want to move on to Bailey ZAPPI no, no, no, no,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: I just I just mean, but this guy's not alone,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: and I'm not making fun of him at all. I
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: think there's a lot of people like that that want
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: to see it. I don't know what you saw on Sunday.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: That's so exciting, right they handed the ball off a ton,
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: They didn't throw up on him, so well question um,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: you know, not to necessarily connect the two, but I mean,
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Jacobe Brisette probably didn't see a lot out of him
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: in camp right when he was a rookie. Do you
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: think maybe just getting a chance. I haven't seen a
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: lot out of him eight years into his career either,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: But somehow he's managed to stick in the NFL. I mean,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: he can't be a totally. I think Bailey Shappy will
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: be an NFL player for a long time. I do,
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: And that's my That's how I'm getting at I mean,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: do you think though, that getting a chance like this
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: early in your career. And I'm not saying that this
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: is what happened with Jacoby Brissett, but I assume that
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: when he started those games in twenty sixteen, it was
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: the same kind of thing of like, he can't he
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: just got he doesn't know, but getting a chance or
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: an opportunity to kind of get your feet wet a
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: little bit, to maybe get a little notoriety. I just
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: I wonder if that if those kind of things can
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: kind of help you developed. I don't. I don't think
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: he's gonna overtake Mac. I haven't really seen anything to
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: make me think that, you know, he has that potential,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: but I don't know. It's just interesting that he's getting
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: this experience now and how it might pay off down
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: the road. Yeah, I could pay off with a fifth
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: round pick for the Patriots, right they trade him like somebody.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: But I would just ask again, I understand the mentality.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: But I would just ask what people really feel like
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: they saw on Sunday. I mean they he played the
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: balance of the game. He went into the game in
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: the first quarter and the game went over over time,
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: so that's basically a full game. They netted seventy five
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: yard yards passing when he was in the game, right, Like,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: what do you think they did? Yeah, they ran the ball,
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: they got to pick six, they held on against Rogers
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: and had a chance at the end to win. The
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: funny thing about it is like, I don't hear a
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: lot of how can you even think about replacing Mac?
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: I don't hear That's that's I guess what my incredulousness
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: comes from. Was I would look at it that I
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: am not the biggest supporter of Mac Jones, as you
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: guys know. I would look at it and say, how
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: could you even think about replacing Matt Jones with Brian
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Hoyer or Day's appy? Right? Right? I mean if it
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: was like puzzles me the most. Yeah, if you took
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: like Desmond Ritter or Kenny Pickett in the second round
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: this year and Mac is out and now you get okay,
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: now right, Jordan's love. Let's see Jordan Love. Let's see
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: what this other guy who was kind of similarly touted
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: in the draft. This is a guy who played at
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: Houston Baptist for three years and then went to Western Kentucky. Now,
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: maybe he'll develop into something more than that. He doesn't have, like,
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: he doesn't have NFL traits. Would you agree, No, there's
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: nothing about him that can overcome being six. He's small. Yeah,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: he doesn't throw the ball exceptionally well. He spins it
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: pretty well, but he doesn't have a really strong arm.
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: I do think that when he is in rhythm, it
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: looks pretty good. I saw a lot of times this
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: summer when it was not in rhythm and he kind
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: of gets out of the pocket, trying to do too
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: much at times, which I think they did a really
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: good job of getting out of him. He took the
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: sacks the other day instead of throwing it into Harm's way.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: That's where I think Joe Judge to Fred's point early
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: Joe Judge, Matt Patricia Bill Belichick, I think they did
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: a good job with him on the side and said, hey,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: if you don't give them the ball, we're gonna have
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: a chance. So if you're in trouble just take the sack.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: If you don't think you can safely throw it away,
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: take the sack. And he did. Yeah, I think I
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: think he showed I agree with all your points. I
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: just I think he has a little sum between the ears.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: I think he's you know, smart process as well, and
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: obviously did with the coaches asked of him as Paul Justice. Now,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: I do think that there were some place to be
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: made the other day that he didn't. I don't expect
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: them to. I mean, the poor kid, Like this is
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: why I would overlook anything negative from Bailey's Appey's game
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: on Sunday because I'm sorry, it's not fair. It wasn't fair, right.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: But if he's gonna get just think about that Thursday
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: night game that Jacoby Brissette started against Houston, where the
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: Houston kick returners decided to just give us the ball
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: like three times in the first half, handed us touchdowns.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: Brissette ran around the end for like twenty five yards
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: for one of those touchdowns. He really did nothing. Then
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: they played the next week. You know, it was all
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: his game plan right play in Buffalo. It's all Jacoby Brissette.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: What happened right? Shout out yep? Because they asked him
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: to play quarterback the second week as opposed to just
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: stay out of the way the first week. Yep, let's
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: go to the A Sticket hot line five five pats
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: five hundred. We'll start with John and Duxbury. Hey John,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Good afternoon everybody. Hey John. Uh Just a FYI. The
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: rebroadcasting the Pack is Pat Skame tonight at eight o'clock
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: in the NFL Network if you want to watch it again.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: But I think that was the worst game I've ever
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: seen Jonathan Jones play. He could have got beat, but
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: he got beat for one touch down. They should have
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: been two. And Dob dropped that ball in the end zone.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: I thought. I thought he struggled the long one at
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: the start of the second half. I'll give him a
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: little bit of a pass because I thought he had
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: pretty good coverage on that play. But they went to Lazard. Yeah,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: thirty two yard down the sideline, the perfect pass. Yeah,
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: And I thought he had good coverage. I don't think
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: he had good coverage in the touchdown. He had terrible
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: coverage on the drop touchdown and he didn't you know,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: contrary to Tony Romo's belief, he didn't rip it away
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: from him. Yeah, he I mean, he didn't even give
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: me the sterling more nay, by the way, in fairness
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: to Jacoby, bris said, I will add that he had
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: that bad thumb he did, you know that in that
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: Buffalo game. But still like point stance, you know what
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: I mean. Yeah. And the other thing is, um, I
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: listened to you, you and Mike on the post game,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: and maybe I tuned in late, so maybe I missed that.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: But when you were talking about players who played well,
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: Dawn had a very good game. He had, Yeah, I tackled.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: He was on our list. Yep, he was. He was
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: on the good list both. I think all three of
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: us had him on the list. Yeah, that's rare that
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: we all we all agree. The other thing, Paul, he
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: did so on that interception, Jones's interception, he blew that
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: guy out and gave him a flip path to the
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: end zone. One of I think it was one of
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: their wide receivers he took out of the play. Yeah,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: he played, he played well. He's played well so far.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: This is kind of like last year. He's got a
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: burst four sacks and four games. He's fresh. Well yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: all right, that's all I got boys all right. And
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: I even think unlike last year, Like last year, I
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: thought there were times like he would have a sack
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: and I didn't really notice him. This year, I think
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: he's had a sack and he's had two or three
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: other times where he's been forcing the ball out quickly,
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: making a play here or there. Yeah, he's been, he thinks,
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: very good. His closing burst to kind of stuck out
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: to me in a way that it didn't last year
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: of just that you know, that extra last minute, he's
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: getting close, he's he looks quick and the shape to me,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: Christians in La, what's up? Christians turned down the internet? Yeah,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: and then yeah, I want to I know he wasn't
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: giving credits to Bailey and the team for really sort
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: of coalescing around him. I want to talk about some
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: of the stuff to happen at the end of the
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: game that I thought was a little bit off. We
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: are usually so good with situational football, and yet to me,
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: the three big his plays in the game how to
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: do with situational football. First, the two defenses played at
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: the end with Aaron Rodgers on the forty with only
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: meeting twenty yards to go to kick a field goal
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: to win the game. We had to play a play
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: twenty yards off. Again, I agree that was very curious
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: situational football, right, that situational awareness. And then also with
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: Bailey Zappy when we were around the forty or so,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: the running plays and then the kind of I thought
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: we should have done some sort of rollout with Bailey
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: and just let him try to lose use his legs
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: on the cross pat. If it's not there, you throw
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: it away, you run it out. Oh, you take the
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: five yards, ten yards, and you give the first down.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: So I just wanted to see you guys take them
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: what you think we did situationally wrong at the end
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: of the game. I really agree with your point of
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: my question. Um, the off coverage in overtime, Mike, we
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: both of us looked at each other and I was like,
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: what are we doing? Um? And I don't know if
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: that was a situation where they came out in a
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: formation that Aaron Rodgers recognized immediately and said we're gonna
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: check out of that and I'm just gonna throw it
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: up to him and take the easy five yards because they,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: I mean, Christian is overselling it. They were on the forty.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: They only needed five yards for a field goal, and
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: they ended up doing it two plays in a row
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: to getting comfortable chip shot range. They actually ran that
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: play twice to get one first down. Then I think
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: they ran it three times, got another first down, and
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: then they kneeled on the ball and kicked the field
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: goal at you know, like now you got very little
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: chance of him missing a field goal. I thought that
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: was that was interesting. I didn't know if that was
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: Jack Jones playing off or if he's being instructed to
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: play off, which is my guests, because knowing Jack Jones,
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: he's looking to make a play. Yeah. Yeah, So I
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: thought that was strange. The Mike and I actually debated
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: this a little bit on Sunday. I think we really agree,
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: more so when you know, I have to watch the
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: trash talk segment on on the TV show this week
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: where we seem like we argue about But I thought
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: there was some plays maybe that they could have taken
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: a shot, maybe on first or second down. And I
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: think that's what's missing for me, Like I think overall,
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: I don't I don't think that the offense has been
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: you know, I think the first couple of weeks it
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: was so much like Oh, they don't even know what
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: they're doing. Guys are running the same route like all that.
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: That stuff's kind of fallen by the wayside. For me.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I just it's the specific moments is And I think
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: that's what made Josh great was that he often knew
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: the right time to kind of push the button to
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: change things up or maybe go in a different direction.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: And you know, I don't think it's totally crazy the
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: development process that they've shown of all, right, they can
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: execute an offense, but you know, do they have the
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: right little plays at the right little time to push
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: And I think that's something that they need to work on.
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: When hey, we need something here, we need something right here.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: We got to spring something on them, you know, find
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: them more of those kinds. Right. We didn't get to
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: talk to you in all serious about about this, Like
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: what were your feelings on that overtime possession? So they
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: take over on the forty nine, They take over run
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: on the Patriots forty nine. They need a down probably
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: fifteen yards to get into legitimate nick Folk territory, Like,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on what they did? I have
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: to be honest, I can't remember thinking, you know, for
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: really an instant. Oh, the play calling's bad here. I'm
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: not just talking about the approach and John. I just
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: think they know what they could do, and I think
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: they were playing conservative, but I don't think they felt
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: they had a choice. And I couldn't really disagree, you know. Okay,
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: so if you're going to be conservative, I think that
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: they were conservative backwards. Like if you wanted to just
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: run it, like I had said to Hardy before the series,
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: just run it three times, They're not going to stop
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: you from getting a first down, and they didn't. Yeah,
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: they threw it, And I think if you were going
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: to throw it, but maybe in that situation they figured
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: they would because they were loading up so much. Yeah.
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: I just think on third and five, now you gotta throw, yeah,
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: you know, then the defense is more prepared for it.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: And that was the one time that I thought Bailey
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Bailey zappy, not Jake Bailey. It really bugs me. Um,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: the first name thing bugs man. I don't know if
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: you know that. Fred. Yeah, Um. I thought that was
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: one of the only times that he really looked flustered
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: on that play. I thought he had hun right off
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: the right off the break and he didn't he like
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: he escaped. I thought a reasonably clean pocket kind of
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: got disoriented and threw it into harm's way. I mean
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: that was that was a dangerous throw um. I thought
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: first or second down was a time to to throw,
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: like you load up, you got the actually got Marcus
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: Cannon out there, eligible hard play action, quick little toss
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: to Stevenson in the flat, or maybe Hunter Henry, you know,
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: get a you know, a cheap eight yards and then
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: you you just pound away or on third on third
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: and five, so they stopped the second down run for nothing.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Can you do it again? Because we're gonna do it
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: two more times and I don't think you can stop me.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: Now on fourth and five, I would have punted. I
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: think he made the right moved down. I wonder on
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: that on that third down play with Hunter Henry, that's
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: where the size kind of concerns me. With those quick
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: in cuts. When you've got the frontier line right there,
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: can he see over those guys in and find that whole?
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: And we should point out Pressian Paul Perillo coming through
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: for those of us listening. Earlier in the show, Paul
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: mentioned Garrett Gilbert as a potential in fairness, I mentioned
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Jake Dolgalla first. So but alas I covered, I played
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: Coverall reports have the Patriots signing Garrett Gilbert to the
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: practice squad. San re reading, I just thought, I just thought,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: in terms of someone who's been here recently, Danny at
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: Ling would fall into that category, except for I don't
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: think Danny Atling's a quarterback. Yeah, right, so I wanted
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: a guy who actually, you know, a quarterback, who actually plays,
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: you know, quarterback. Yeah, so maybe, I mean it might
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: be as probably a sign that that at least Hoyer
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: is not going to be ready to go immediately, right
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: very And I do wonder if because of that, see
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: that no look Freddy, Yeah, if because of that, if
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: you get some press on mac Jones, if he feels
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: the pressure, not the pressure from the team, but he
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: feels it internally and rushes back, I would that would
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: concern me. I think he has a chance to play
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: because of the situation. If Brian Horror was healthy, I
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: don't think there's any chance Mac Jones would play some day.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: I think you're right, Paul, though, I mean, this is
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: I'm getting to the point now where I think my
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: biggest worry is is Mac gonna try to play when
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: he shouldn't try to play and hurt the team and
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: hurt himself, like I think he's going to be a
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: sitting duck. Yeah, it's back to the phones. Brian's in Florida.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: What's up, Brian, Brian, Hey guys. Hey, Yes, I'm a
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: long time listener, first time caller here in Florida. Thank you,
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: and Paul to mention kind of what you were saying.
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: I thought to play calling at the overtime when they
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: had the first and five, I thought they really should
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: have thrown it to the flat on that second and
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: five and got one on one with the back to
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: get a couple of yards because you knew they were
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: gonna We knew we're gonna run it at that point.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: We're going to run it. And I just wanted to
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: ask another thing, did Stevenson ever get to run it?
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I noticed they went with Harrison overtime, but I thought
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: Stevenson was a better back with the defense being up
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: on the line. And I had one other thing with
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: Mac Jones. I think we're reaching out looking for Zappie
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: because we're not quite seeing what we want to see
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: out of Mac. We're not comfortable with Mac and we're
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: looking for the the next golden star. And that's why
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: I think that we're not all saying, hey, we want
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: Mac back as soon as possible, I'll shut up and
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: move on the thanks guy. It was Harris on the
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: Two Runs. Stevenson, No, Stevenson, m Yeah, I mean I hear,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: and I thought Mike really articulated it. Well, you know
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: sometimes like the new thing, that's the unknown thing. Well
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: maybe he's actually a superstar. I just don't know how
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: you can look at it and watch what he did
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: on Sunday and say, yeah, that's what we're missing. Like
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Mac Jones against Baltimore made more plays in that game
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: then I think he made in any game before that. Like,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: if you were, like, if you were at all a
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: believer in Mac Jones, the Ravens game had to give
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: you some hope. Yeah, yeah, I know he made mistakes.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: I know, you know, he threw interceptions. And that's why
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: I said, like, it's hard to say, like the best
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: game you ever played is a game they had no
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: touchdowns and three picks. It wasn't the best game you
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: ever played, but there were times in that game where
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: he's never looked better. Yeah, it's easy to come out
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: of that game, and hen he not got hurt to say,
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: just don't tell picks and I play it that way.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: Don't tell picks. I think if they just you know,
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: I've said this before. He's gonna make mistakes. Let him
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: make the mistakes. He'll get better. He'll, you know, if
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: if what we're told about him is true, that his
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: you know, biggest asset is between the ears. He will
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: learn from those mistakes. But you gotta let him make
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: it because that's how you work. That's how it works
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: in the NFL. It's through experience. You gotta you gotta
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: see it for yourself and experience it for yourself. You
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: can watch film all day, but until you get out
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: there with that speed um you just you can't improve
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: until you actually do it. Yeah, Paul, I saw you.
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: I saw you clapping back a little bit at Tommy
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: Curran on the Brady two thousand and two things. Do
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: you think there's there's any truth to that though? Of Yes,
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: second year feeling it out, being aggressive good, That's what
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Fred is talking about. Sometimes you have to just let
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: the guy try to make plays and figure out what
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: doesn't work right, what can I what can and what
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: I clapped back about is he makes it sound like
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: he was mistake prone that year. But the difference is
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: Mac Jones just been mistake prone without the plays. Tom
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: Brady was a mistake prone with more, more big plays
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: than he had made the previous year. Do you know
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: what I mean? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah, But I agree
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: with Fred's mentality, Like this is why I like do
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: you remember a long, long time ago, Tom Jackson made
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: an idiotic comment on ESPN about Brett Farve, saying one
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: thing I've always admired, I'm admired about Brett Farve, and
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: I'm paraphrasing, but this is pretty close. One thing I've
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: always admired about Brett Farve is he's never afraid to
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: throw an interception. And of course, you know the cackling
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: hyenas that have a spreadsheet here that says interceptions bad,
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: We can't throw interceptions. Don't take into consideration how many
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: times a guy trying to force one in there and
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: getting picked off is outweighed by the fifteen times that
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: he tried to force one in there and made a
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: huge play that ultimately led to a lot of points
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: being scored for your team. That's what Tom Jackson meant
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: he's not going to be swayed out of his mentality
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: because he makes a mistake or two, because he knows
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: he's good enough that more often than not, he's going
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: to make the play. Now, some guys have that mentality
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: and they make more mistakes than plays. Brett Favre wasn't
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: one of those guys. He made more plays than mistakes,
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: and Brady learned. I think Tom Karrn is right. Brady
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: learned in two thousand and two the plays that he
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: couldn't make. Yeah, but he laid a lot more than
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: he didn't, telling Aaron Judge, don't swing for the fences
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: because you know you strike out. You know I'll take
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: the strikeouts. Sorry, I gotta sneast bruin. Let's go to
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: Mark and Florida. What's up Mark? Hey, guys, how are
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: you doing? Hey? Mark? You're he's certainly around on the right,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: on the wall with everything. And what we're missing is
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: someone great. Right now we have no one great. I
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: was hoping that, you know, Bill could be great this
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: year for us, but he's strung out too far, too
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: So hopefully Zachy gets it, wins one game, motivates mac
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: let MACI man and maybe become great and helpless because
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: it all someone great. You know, I'm going to go
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: much further than we are. Yeah, I mean you hate
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: to say it, but like who is great on the Patriots?
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: Thanks Mark, And like you can't honestly say anyone is
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: an all pro caliber type player? No, you know, nope, no,
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: And I mean, and you know, and I wonder, you know,
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: we want bar More to be great, you know, but
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: he's not there yet, not there yet. Coach Range isn't
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: there yet, you know what Stevenson I think, you know,
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: but he's a running back and it's the NFL, and
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: you know you have to be uh. Plus he's not
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: I mean, he's not bad. Yeah, it's such a weird
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: he's not McCaffrey. It's such a weird street spot with
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: those that you're so good that you're the whole offense,
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: Like you got to live in that place where you're
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: like you're not too good where you're the whole offense.
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: But he's more explosive than Harris, but he's not explosive
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: like those guys. You know. Now, Thornton's great, but he
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: hasn't been able to show it yet. You all seriousness
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: about Thornton. I'd be curious to see if he practices
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: this week. He's back out there tomorrow. Neil and New Brunswick,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: with all due respect to moral victories, were one in
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: three in last place in our division. My question is
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: for fair statement right there, which version Bill actually calls
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: the shots, because I think it would be really good
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: if coach Bill would just fire GM Bill and hire
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: an actual GM Sunday prove coach Bill is still the best.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: But he doesn't have the players to make it work.
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: We're paying two tight ends a total cap hit of
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: twenty three million, and I don't think they have ten
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: total catches in four games. What Deebo Samuel did last
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: night caught a four yard pass and then took it
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: fifty yards for a touchdown. No one on our team
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: can do that. Until we have that, we're stuck in
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: the bottom half of the league. I mean, I don't
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: totally disagree. I mean, you know it's simplifying it, but
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: I mean you're right. I mean it's just I mean,
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: do we at all go with anything that we've seen
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: the last two games where they have at least made
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: a couple of players down the field, especially the Baltimore game.
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: You know, I'm kind of gnoring this game. Like you
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: can sit there and say you don't have anybody to
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: make a play when you know you have your third
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: string quarterback in the field, Like it's hard to have that. Yeah,
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: I mean, I do think that there is a good
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: team in there, and I think you've seen it for
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: you know, small periods of time that they have been
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: able to execute on both sides of the ball and
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: look pretty good. But I mean, I think it just
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: goes back to training camp where I think the phrase
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: it kept just is not consistent. They'd have a play here,
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: play there, they'd have a bad play, and that's kind
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: of carried over through the first four weeks of this.
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: I think that one thing that's kind of like coming
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: out to me like last year and this year, is
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: there were a lot of teams over the last twenty
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: years that I sort of looked at as kind of
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: like that they're no good. You know, they went seven
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: and nine, you know, Minnesota Vikings, Yeah they're no good.
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: But what I'm kind of realizing is some of those
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: teams that you know, some weeks they win, some weeks
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: they lose, you know, they they fall short, you know
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: against Green Bay. You know, like in the Vikings case,
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: they have periods of time where they look pretty good,
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: they played pretty well. They have talent, they have ability,
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: but they don't have enough ability to consistently stack up
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: when it counts against good teams. And that's why I
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: look at the Patriots the last two years, Like I
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: agree with Mike, I think there have been times with me,
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: all right, I see what they're doing, and I'll say this,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: the preparation, the first drive of every game. Yeah, it's
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: been really good. So I know they can still put
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: it together. I know Building still knows what he's doing
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: because they come out and they put it drive together,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: they go right down the field. They're effective, but they
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: can't hang. They can't stay that way. Um, and especially
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: I think when the when the competition is tough, I
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: look at them and they make mistakes, right, well, but
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: that's why you make mistakes, because the competition is tough. Yeah. Uh,
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: Peter says. I think it's fair to say twenty twenty
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: two what a draft. Green Bay Packers were there for
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: the taking and New England Patriots are about to go
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: five and three in a blink of an eye. Yeah,
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: I mean, that's what everybody expects. I don't. I mean,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: I hope I heard somebody say they're gonna go form
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: one in their next five games. It's lined up that way.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: If you're gonna do that, this is the stretch of
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: the schedule where you could. But I mean, the quarterback
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: issues a spot here. It was healthy and everything it
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: kind of unfolded the same. I might kind of agree
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: with that, but with the uncertainty a quarterback right now,
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: I have no idea what it's gonna look like this
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: weekend and how you're you know, gonna match scores with
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: the Lions and we're trying to cobble some things together here, guys. Yeah,
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: you just line up and run the ball against Detroit.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: You should move the ball, you should show it in
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: the game, and you should be able to win it.
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: I hope you're right. You really should be able to
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: beat these teams. Now, I don't know what the Colts
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: are exactly. To me, that's the ultimate jackal and hide team.
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: I mean, you saw it on display Sunday. They looked
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: awful in the first half, then they blew doors off
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: in the second half and fell short because Jonathan Taylor
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: had an unfortunate fumble on a short yardage play. But
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: that's not going to be an easy game. The other
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: ones you should win. You should beat Chicago at home,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: you should beat Detroit at home, and I'm sorry, you
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: should beat the Jacoby Brissette led Cleveland Browns. Hart Preet
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: writes in can we talk about the third down and
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: something pops up and gets in the way? Ah fat fingers, no,
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: hold on hold? Can we talk about what hobart? Can
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: we talk about the third down? That Nellie dropped the
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: third down pass. At first, the announcer said he threw
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: it too low, but once they showed the replay, you
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: could see it hit Nelly right in the chest. I
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: think the reasoning behind this is because Nelson is used
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: to mac Jones and used to his peace shooter. Then
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: Zappy was thrown in and had to just for his cannon.
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: You're out of your mind. Yeah, you're out of your mind.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: But that was a killer drop. That was one of
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: the best drop. It was one of the better throws
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: Zappy made. It was the best throw he made. It
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: was a second and twelve play and it would have
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: set up third and short. Um. But um, if you
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: think that Bailey Zappy's arm strength is noticeably stronger than
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: Mac Jones is then you're not watching football because neither
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: one of those guys has a major league arm Tom
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: and Northwest New Jersey. It was my initial feeling that
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: Zappy should start when Mac went down, but Paul's insistence
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: it was a stupid idea made me abandon it and
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: feel foolish for thinking it. Uh, it's not like we
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: saw and then and then you watch Brian Hoyer go
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: out march right down the field, going five or six,
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: and somehow that made you think that you were right after. Oh,
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: he's saying he was wrong? Is he yeah? Doesn't sound different. No,
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: he says he realized it was a stupid idea, but
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: that's laced with scat and he felt foolish for thinking it.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: I think he's that's laced with sara. I don't think so.
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: I think I think he's saying you put him in
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: his place. I think it's true. It's not like we
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: saw O seven Tom Brady or even seventy nine Steve Grogan,
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: but I think we saw enough to be excited to
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: see what comes out of the QB position during Mac's
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: injury I'm excited to see what this kid can do.
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: Of course, I don't wish injury on Hoyer, but I
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: think allowing Zappy to start should be a no brainer
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: until Mac is back. And please, Fred's okay, So now
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: do you do you now agree that it was laced
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: with sarcast The guy who handed off one hundred and
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: ten times was more impressive than the guy that threw
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: the ball five for six in leading a scoring drive. Yeah, please, Fred,
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: stop calling the Jets New Jersey. It's insulting to the
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: state I call home. Love the show, except when you
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: bag on New Jersey. I used to live there. I
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: can bag on it. I mean it is where they are.
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: I mean I mean they practice and play in New Jersey. Right,
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: two and two? Yeah, here's where I'm gonna play. Fred's
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: side of the street. Yeah, this is where. This is
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: the beauty of me. I can argue anything. So those
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: five games, right, it's Detroit, Chicago. No, it's Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, Jets, Indians. Okay,
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: three of those teams have a better record than you
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: right now, yea, the only team that wait a minute,
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: Chicago's two and two, four of them, two and four
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: of them have a better record than the only team
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: that has the same record is Detroit. So we're penciling
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: in five and oh against teams that have better records
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: than you. Now, that's people, it's not it's not twenty fourteen,
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: twenty sixteen with no idea who's playing quarterback. It's twenty
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: twenty two. It's a whole You have to rejigger everything,
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: you know, take the eraser and I just look at
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: like I look at the defense against you know, you know,
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: decent not great offenses, especially this week, it's a bad offense.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: Green Bay is averaging less than sixteen points a game
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: coming into the game, and they've been able to move
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: the ball at will against you like Detroit is high
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: powered at least on paper. And we're just happy appy.
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: I think they should win the game. I don't think
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: there's any excuse to lose the game. Russell writes in
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: with what looks like changes being made to concussion protocols
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: and players being let back in or out or held
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: out of a game after exiting due to a head
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: related injury, do you think there will be more time
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: spent on backup quarterbacks being more ready to play. Also,
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: I'm going to assume a quarterback gets signed to the
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: practice squad had already happened and elevated on game day.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: But if Mac is seventy five eight percent more healthy
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: than last week, does he serve as the emergency backup
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: until fully healthy? I just, I mean it's such a
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: fine line of like how healthy is always healthy enough
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: to go, especially with an ankle. I man, Paul, you've
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: said out a bunch of times already of if he's
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: going to go out there and give it a go,
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: do you feel great about him? Not, you know, getting
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: rolled up on having a move in the pocket. I
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: based on what I saw Mac Jones three days ago
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: standing still, just I just don't worry about it. I
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: know I'm gonna sound really hypocritical because I've been somewhat,
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: you know, lukewarm on Mac Jones. I've said many times
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: I do not think he stinks. I think he's good.
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: I don't think he's great. But I also don't want
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: to risk like losing him for a longer period of time.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: And I'm not necessarily saying career threatening or anything dramatic,
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: but I do worry about a guy. What if what
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: if he's like standing in the pocket and he says,
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: this is probably the time for me to get out
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: of here right now, but I know I can't. So
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: I'm going to stand in a half a second longer
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: and get this out and bang he gets his light
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: switch lowered. Then something bad happens. I'm not necessarily saying
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: something happens to his ankle. To further it, I'm saying
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: he takes a hit that he wouldn't have normally taken.
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: I mean, and even normally he's getting get hit him,
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: like even normally he's getting fit pretty hard. And like
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: I said, with John ou Smith not available, maybe does
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: that mean you can't just make the switch to Marcus Cannon.
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: I don't know, because when it struggled, and I just
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: think that there's some risk involved if you want to
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: turn it over to if you want to turn it
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: over to Mac Jones and just you know, hold him
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: out and just say we know you're not one hundred
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: percent go out there like it. There's a lot of
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: risk in there's a lot of risk in there, especially
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: if he's your long term guy. I think I had
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: a seizure in the middle of that sence I kind
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: of forgot what I was even talking about. In the middle.
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: I was just like, oh, I'm back now, that's all right.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: I'm used to it now, Pa I followed him. I speak,
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: I speak. I don't know, Fred, I think, uh oh.
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: I thought he got a call from Fred Leaves and
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: we don't know what to say. I thought he got
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: a call from Big Cheddar. We just stand here and stay.
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: That's usually the only the only way you ever see
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: him leave the show in the middle is Big Cheddar. Yeah,
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: someone with the last name beginning with K calls and
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: he has to go. But evidently it was just nature
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: and he's back. Godfred, are we doing. We're just sort
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: of reiterating mac feters of having Mac Jones play, which
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: neither one of us rules out, by the way, Yeah,
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: I don't, but like against his like against my better
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: judgment of letting him play. I mean, I didn't think
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: I knew one thousand percent he wasn't playing last week,
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: But beyond that, I don't know. Yeah, I don't, I really,
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: I mean, I think now, I think it's a fair
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: guest to say the insistence was on his part that
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: he could get out there sooner than that's kind of
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: I told you. I had that epiphany late last week.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: That's what it seems like. Yeah, he wants to get
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: out there, which you know, good for him, you know,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: but now the team, now, the team has to step
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: in and protect him. Right right, Um, phones are stacking
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: up here. Let's go to Eddie in Florida, our third
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: Floridian in a row. What's up, Eddie? Eddie? Not much? Hey,
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: so listen, I got too Hey. Can you hear me? Yeah?
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: Can you hear me? Perfectly? Okay? Great? So I got
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: two points and then I got to follow up trivia
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: question football love. First point was second in five at
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: midfield in overtime, just two obvious play action pass. I
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: don't I don't get that. I mean, anyways, second point. Um,
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: just as easily as we could beat any of the
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: following teams coming up, we could lose to any of
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: the following teams coming up. We have to play near
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: perfect foot wall, mistake free, well execution, high level. I
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: don't think you point, but yeah, I mean I agree
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: with you. I agree with you. Premise. I think they.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: I think Fred is right. You can't just automatically say,
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: and I don't automatically say that they're gonna win all
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: these games. I think they will win at least four
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: of them. But I don't automatically say there's no chance
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: they're gonna they're gonna lose. I boyd, things have changed
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: this show, huh, Paul being more optimistic, Pau, I know,
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: I think they're gonna wait for these games, I think,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: but I think you're right. I don't think you can
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: pencil in Detroit is a win, Fred. The only one
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: eye pencil in is a win is Chicago. They will
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: not lose to a guy who they will not let pass. Yeah,
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: I agree they won't lose that game, but I think
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: they can lose any of the other four. Yeah, I
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: mean the Jets. It's a Harry. I mean, but I
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: don't think they will. Like, just because I don't think
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: they're gonna win, I don't think they're gonna lose, doesn't
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: mean that they will. I guarantee you that Jet game
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: is the dog match, A dog fight guaranty almost always are,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: you know when when they play the Jets the Jet Now,
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: the scores have been out of control, but the games haven't,
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: you know, Like last year that game was more than
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: competitive and Zeke Wilson just kept throwing picked after picked
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: right and eventually we pulled away, right, Yeah, that game
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: and then we blew him out in Foxborough. We always
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: kill him here. Yeah, there's a lot of we talk there.
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: We first names. Eddie's got a trivia question for you, Paul. Well,
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: it's a follow up trivia question based on the sixth
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: offensive lineman from the mid seventies. We rattled off. You
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: rattled off the names pretty damn easily, But can you
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: do the numbers as well? So we're talking about the
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: offensive line in the seventies. So John Hannah seventy three,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: is that what you mean? Yeah, the one that set
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: the record? Yeah, okay, So John Hannah was number seventy three,
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: is that what you mean? Pete Rock was fifty eight,
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: Bill and Kindi sixty seven, Sam Adams was sixty one.
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: Shelby Jordan was seventy four. Wow, right, you thought you
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: had him right. Leon Gray was seventy. Wow. The only
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: one I didn't get was Bill Ankitis. Great job. I
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: was gonna say that that's the sixth offensive linement that
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: played regularly because Lankitis and Brock used to Altnay, that's right, Jocolitis.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: Well that's what I was a kid. Then that's like,
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: that's my wheelhouse. I'll never know anything like I do.
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: Like you know, I was ten roster back. Good stuff,
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: all right, guys, have a great all right, thanks Eddie.
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: Let's go to Zamir in Maine. What's up, Zamir? Yeah, hey, guys,
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: that were you good? Good? I just had a question
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: about UM. I think something that Paul said needed last week. UM.
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: He had mentioned that the uh, the packing yards are down,
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: UM over the course of the year. Is that? Is
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: that right? Yeah? They were heading into last week. I
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: don't know where they stand now. I know there was
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: some big performances over the weekend, but heading into last week,
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: the passing numbers were down. Got you? And I had
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: the silly question. I don't know it make sense or not,
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: but are the penalty yards? No? Penalties? Are penalties are down?
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: I believe? Got Yeah. I think if you don't get
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: the forty yard bomb, but you have a forty yard
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: passinger fearing, then yeah, no, it's a that's a fair point. Yeah,
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: that wouldn't count in passing yards. That's a fair point.
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: But no, I don't think penalties are up. I think
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: that the the premise that a lot of people are
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: going with and I don't know if if this is
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: valid or not, but there's been a u sort of
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: a change and a lot of teams that are doing
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: the similar kind of things with too high safety looks
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: and trying to keep everything in front um, and it
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: just it's not conducive to the deep game, the deep
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: ball um. So, you know, I think that people are
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: getting pressure on the passer more frequently and taking away
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: the big play. So you're doing the whole Belichick thing.
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: Make them go ten, twelve, fourteen plays, and sooner or
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: later we'll get some pressure, we'll cause a you know,
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: we'll cause an incompletion, we'll get off the field. Yeah, um,
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: just god. Yeah, I'm I'm pretty spoiled. I started playing
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: football when I was ten back in two thousands, So
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: this is all I've ever known as winning. But I
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: feel like you're right. The Patriots for the past twenty
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: plus years have had They've always did everything in front
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: of them, everything in front of everything in front of them. Ye,
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: it's just it's been the normal, you know, That's all
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: I've ever known. Ye. Perfect, No, I appreciate the answer, guys.
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: You guys have a great day. Thanks. I was just
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: gonna give you I know we talked about penalties. The
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: updated Patriots penalties. They're twenty sixth overall and the number
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: of penalties their third overall im pre snap penalt third
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: worst in pre snap penalties, and that was the seven
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: pre snap penalties. That was the point I was trying
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: to make, like, you know, you're good at get penalties,
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: but you can't have the ones that can't be ignored.
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: Um although in this case they did have one that
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: was ignored got a touchdown out of it. Yea. So
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: they're one of the least penalized teams in the league twelve.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: But but they have the third most pre snap penalties,
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: seven pre snap penalties. They're twelfth on offense, twenty sixth
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: on defense, sixteenth and special teams. But yeah, the pre
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: snap penalties are are a bugaboo. All right, let's go
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: one more call and we'll get back to the emails.
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: Eldred's in North Carolina. Hey, Eldred, what's he listening to?
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: Sounds like he's cheating on us. Yeah, Eldred, We're supposed
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: to be the only podcast he listens to. All right,
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: call back. It's very sad, it's very poor. Claire's writing
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: in Hello, everyone, Hello, Marin and me. I gotta say
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: this felt this was a not win game rather than
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: a loss. I don't feel too bad about it, to
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: be honest. So with what you guys were saying about
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: John od Smith possibly being out for a few games,
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: do you see the Patriots looking for a veteran tight
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: end to bring in, specially a blocking one. You know.
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: I hate to say, Claire, but ever since you kind
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: of came on board and started this whole tight end thing,
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: the completely devoid of tight end play, completely devoid of
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: tight end play. Yeah, scared them away, Claire Pick. And
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: I think the Hunter Henry thing is interesting to me. Yeah.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: Hunter Henry had nine touchdowns last year, and I always
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: a complete and total afterthoughts, there's nine target disconnect like
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: what happened? I don't know. And this isn't on the
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: tight end no, I mean, I don't know. I don't
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: know if it's an offensive thing, if they're trying to
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: push the ball down the field more. It's just they
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: seem like they are more focused on making those guys block,
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: and I just it's it's they're not good at it.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: It's not it's not positive the win when they're forced
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: to block and come and pull and lead the way,
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: and they they get in the way kind of, but
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: they don't really move anybody, and you know, it's it's
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: it's you know, to Claire's point, it's like I'd almost
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: rather have at least the guy who's a really effective blocker,
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: because at least you know you're getting one thing out
- 1:46:55Speaker 1: of them for sure. But if you're not getting any
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: receptions out of these guys, they're not really passive. This
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: is what we're talking about. They're just they're not contributing
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: really in any way. And in some cases in the
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: blocking game, I feel like they're hurting. Now that said,
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: we talked about third down. Hunter Henry was there, so
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: I think there are moments that these guys are open.
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: But I wouldn't really say that with John. I don't
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: feel like they've missed on a lot of plays with JOHNU.
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: I don't get it. It's a disconnect somehow. And that's
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: one thing I think, when you know Mac does come back,
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: can that return, especially in the red zone as they
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: get down there and get more reps in the red zone,
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: get Hunter Henry some touchdowns. Philippe and Rio de Janeiro
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: writes in as much as the Bailey's appy conversation is
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: interesting and revealing of what Patriots fans truly think of
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: Mac Jones. Can we talk about the other Bailey on
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: the team, the most expensive punter in the league, Jake Bailey.
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: He's now entering his second bad season and had a
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: particularly bad game against the Packers after Belichick stress throughout
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: the week the importance of field position. Sorry if you
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: already discussed it, I missed the first part of the
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: show and we'll have to catch up afterwards. Well, I
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: mean Andy treat tweeted out today which I noted that
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: Bailey's twenty nine think gross and net punting, So you know,
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: it's just, I mean, that's tough for me to just
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: so you know, that's up, that's up from what he
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: was last last week. So I don't know, I struggle
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: to really truly judge punters accurately based on these kind
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: of numbers, But I don't think he's really helped them
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: a lot in terms of the field position. I think
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: the punt that he had at the end of the
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: fourth quarter was particularly bad, thirty six yard punt when
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: they were backed up. You know, sometimes the the gross
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: numbers can be misleading. If you're punting a lot from
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: around midfield, you know, you know, you could have a
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: thirty five yard punt that gets down at the five
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: and that's you know, it's a terrific punt, you know. Yeah.
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: But when you're punting from your own fifteen with I
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: don't know, three minutes left and you get a thirty
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: six yards or off, you know only because Romeo Dubbs
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: dropped it touchdown? Did you survive that? That should have
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: been game set match? That was a bad punt in
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: a big time, big in a big spot. Jack and Anaba.
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: Rome wasn't built in a day, nor will the post
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: Brady Patriots be built in a day. Nevertheless, from the
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: patriots gritty overtime lost to Green Bay at Lambeau, the
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: outlines of the formidable edifice of the next championship Patriots
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: team began to appear. In vindication of Belichick's last three drafts,
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: young Patriots are emerging as consistent playmakers and potential difference makers.
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: Mike and When You Cole Strange, Damian Harris, Romande Stevenson,
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: Christian Barmore, Jack Jones, Marcus Jones, Bailey's Appy Mac Jones
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: too if he weren't injured. The Patriots still have a
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: way to go, But after last Sunday's performance, I have
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: hoped for the future of this team. What do you
- 1:49:48Speaker 1: think I need more? I need more out of those guys.
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: I need to see them, you know, win, That would
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: help too. But I mean, I you know, I think
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: there's some truth in what he's saying with on when
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: you and I mean, I really liked him at right guard.
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: I think he's been effective there this year. But you know,
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: I just I don't think any there's no nobody's developing
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: into star players, you know, like and that's like my
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: hope of On paper, it doesn't look like they have
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: those guys, But the hope would be that you've got
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: a good team that's well coached, and they play together
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: and guys start to emerge from that and all of
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: a sudden, guys, you know, like a Rob Nikovich, you know,
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: emerges and oh, all right, this guy knows how to play,
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: and we could he develops and he becomes an impact player.
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: And as much as you want to say the last
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: three drafts were great, I mean that was the twenty
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: draft draft that great. I mean, I like Kyle Dugger.
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: I don't. I don't love him. I don't feel like that,
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: Oh he's a slam dunk safety for the next ten years.
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: Here he was playing like a guy who was a
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: little injured. No, but and I litter you've seen from
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: Kyle Dugger that like to Mike's point, like, I think
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: Kyle Dugger's fine. I like, I don't have any problem
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: with Kyle Dugger, but he's not a guy that I
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: look back and say, we've got Kyle Dugger back in
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: that twenty draft. Like, yeah, Michael Awhenio, Michael Lawhennu wasn't
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: playing in place of Ted Carriss last year, So now
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: he's playing because you lost two offensive linemen and someone's
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: got to play, and it's Michael Lewen. You. I agree
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: with Mike. I think he's he's played fine at guard. Like,
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: that's not going to make the difference having you know,
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: a couple of good running backs and a couple of
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: good guards as your draft picks. That's not what championship
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: foundations have built upon. I know that that sounds funny
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: because the old school way of you gotta build from
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: within and be strong. Yes, you can't have a terrible
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: offensive line but you don't have to have first round
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: picks in third round picks running the ball. In order
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: to be a championship caliber team, you have to have
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: some playmakers along the way, and they really don't have
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: any on either side of the ball. In my mind, now,
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: maybe Jack Jones is a playmaker on defense. Maybe maybe
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: you know, I'm willing to say, like first game he
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: goes out, causes two turnovers. Maybe maybe this is what
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: he is. Maybe he's just one of those guys he's
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: gonna make plays. If he is, that's a start. But
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: do you think that you're gonna win a championship just
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: like lining up and running the ball? No, No, you
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: need you need the you need the big positions, right
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: likeships that Derek Henry win zero. You know how like
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: we play teams and we look at some of their players.
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: He's a problem, he's a problem. Who on the Patriots
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: when other teams are planning for us say he's a problem.
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: I mean a little jude on. I mean I think
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: he's okay play. I think he's a good player. Yeah, okay,
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: I'll give you that. You for some reason, when you
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: just said that, I thought you said, uh, I thought
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: you said Ouch. I said Jude, and I was like,
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: how what was that? What? What was that facetious? But
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: I mean that's the positions you need, Like you need
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: a receiver, you need a quarterback, you need a pass rusher.
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: I mean, I'd throw him a linebacker in there that
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: can make plays and you know, get sidelined to sideline
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: and you know they don't really have those. I mean
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: you can say Jude on off the edge, and I
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: do think that that's app but there's not a lot
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: of depth and not a lot of it's a problem
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: for the other team. Quick game to end the show.
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: I gotta get going. This is from Anthony for Shawn
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: Slater's out for the season. If interested, ideal win to
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: the Charges in a heartbeat for fourth or maybe a
- 1:53:11Speaker 1: third fourth swap deal. Um, that was just a comment.
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: We're not getting a third round pick, frisea win, just
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: to say that, would you rather questions answer which you
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: think would make the team better. Would you rather have
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: Judon and Barmark combined for thirty sacks or Harris and
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: Stevenson combined for thirty touchdowns? Thirty touchdowns? That's crazy. You
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: gotta score a win. Mac averages three hundred yards, three
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: touchdowns and two turnovers a game, or he averages one
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: hundred and eighty yards one touchdown in point to five
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: turnovers per game. The ladder, Yeah, the ladder. Do the
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: ladder over the former? Yeah, yeah, living on that edge.
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: John U and Henry combined for fifteen touchdowns or Jones
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: rookies combined for fifteen interceptions. Touchdowns. Touchdowns are more important
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: than anything. Yeah, I don't know. I don't got to
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: score touchdowns. Fifteen interceptions, I don't know. That's seven back
- 1:54:08Speaker 1: and forth touchdowns and then somebody else can score the touchdowns.
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: Folk attempts fifty five field goals and misses only one.
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: Or Folk attempts only twenty five but misses eight. So
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: what he's saying, we're kicking a lot of field goal Yeah,
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: twenty five because I means they're scoring touchdowns. Yeah, we hope,
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: and not even just they can just I'm gonna trap
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: away and say they're scoring touchdown. That's why he didn't
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: attempt any field goals, right, Otherwise I would say, well,
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: fifty four field goals, that's a lot. It's a lot
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: of points, all right. That's gonna do it. For this
