- 1:41Speaker 2: story of the new year. And we're of are going somewhere,
- 1:49Speaker 2: and we are talking about a place that in eighteen
- 1:59Speaker 2: seventy six, the gold rush of all kinds of people
- 2:04Speaker 2: to this place called Deadwoods, South Dakota. It had attracted
- 2:12Speaker 2: pioneers and prospectors to gain their fortune along the slawness, lawlessness,
- 2:22Speaker 2: unsavory types of bringing, murder, mayhem, and Deadwood's heralded status
- 2:31Speaker 2: in the wild West. Lord the local legendary local, the
- 2:40Speaker 2: only US town to be named a National Historic Landmark,
- 2:47Speaker 2: is live with stories of its dead residents, haunted by
- 2:52Speaker 2: present day hotels and saloons. No matter the time to.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Visit the Deadwood's undead then in a Halloween, but you
- 3:02Speaker 3: can come at any time you like when the But
- 3:06Speaker 3: in Halloween the city celebrates it's called dead weird with
- 3:12Speaker 3: the monster call at Frank Franklin Hotel and hourly haunted
- 3:19Speaker 3: tours at the.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Historic Adam's House. Now what makes this uh place, you know,
- 3:32Speaker 2: monumental or or haunted or so reckless. Well, it happens
- 3:43Speaker 2: to bring a lot of you know, a lot of
- 3:46Speaker 2: people that a prospecting and you know, with the gold
- 3:52Speaker 2: rush in South Dakota, and of course the US wanted
- 3:58Speaker 2: all the gold out of it, and along with that
- 4:07Speaker 2: brought in some some colorful characters, won you know, being
- 4:14Speaker 2: uh wild Bill Hickock and uh me and him and
- 4:21Speaker 2: Jack McCall. Uh they came and uh and uh Charles Rich.
- 4:31Speaker 2: They uh, they wanted to strike strike up, and he
- 4:37Speaker 2: wanted to after his US martial days sheriff and et cetera.
- 4:44Speaker 2: You know, he wanted to wind down. You know, his
- 4:47Speaker 2: health wasn't that too good. Eyesight was deteriorating. You know,
- 4:54Speaker 2: he's been you know, taking a toll on his body
- 4:58Speaker 2: for quite a while. Well, you end up going to
- 5:01Speaker 2: dead Wood and as he was going to local saloon.
- 5:12Speaker 4: And it was the the slew.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Number ten, which you know he had he always sat behind,
- 5:25Speaker 2: you know, his chair was always his back was always
- 5:29Speaker 2: toward the wall because he is always afraid that you know,
- 5:33Speaker 2: somebody would you no, you know, backshoot him. Well, this
- 5:40Speaker 2: day his worst fears came true. On August first, eighteen
- 5:47Speaker 2: seventy six, Kcock was playing poker at the natural Man's
- 5:53Speaker 2: as Slow number ten. And when you see that there
- 5:58Speaker 2: was his usual seat was occupied by a person and
- 6:04Speaker 2: there was only one.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Open seat, but the seat was.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Showing his back towards the door. Well, this person who
- 6:17Speaker 2: he played one or their previous day, who had lost
- 6:23Speaker 2: his money too and pretty much made a fool of him,
- 6:28Speaker 2: was the name of Jack McCall. Well, he you know,
- 6:34Speaker 2: he was drunk and uh he sat down to play,
- 6:39Speaker 2: and then they lost heavily and encouraged a called quick
- 6:47Speaker 2: game with the game until he could recover his losses
- 6:51Speaker 2: and offered him money for breakfast. Although the called accepted
- 6:57Speaker 2: the money, he uh he took sold well. The next
- 7:03Speaker 2: day when Nickock went in to play, the door of
- 7:10Speaker 2: the chair was took in like I said before, and
- 7:18Speaker 2: he asked twice to ask the other man at the table,
- 7:23Speaker 2: Charles Rich, to change.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Seats, but Rich refused.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Well as they were playing, McCall and entered the saloon.
- 7:35Speaker 2: As Bill was playing his deck or as his cards,
- 7:41Speaker 2: he walked up behind the Hickock to his Colt Model
- 7:45Speaker 2: eighteen seventy three single action Army forty five kelper revolver
- 7:52Speaker 2: and identified or. He came behind him and told him
- 8:04Speaker 2: take that, and he shot Hiccock right back in the head. Well,
- 8:10Speaker 2: I merged through the right cheek and stuck into Messi's
- 8:15Speaker 2: left wrist, and whoever was traveling through he would he
- 8:22Speaker 2: was killed while in Deadwood. And the cards that Hitcock
- 8:28Speaker 2: always had was basically the old dead man's hand, the
- 8:34Speaker 2: aces and eights, you know, the two aces and two eights,
- 8:40Speaker 2: and uh, you know then Jack McColl was uh uh
- 8:47Speaker 2: you know, arrested, tried for murder. He got it quitted twice,
- 8:53Speaker 2: but then he got there he ended up again again
- 8:58Speaker 2: and he was found guilty and they hung them, you know,
- 9:03Speaker 2: somewhere down the road. But Hitcock was buried in uh
- 9:09Speaker 2: dead Would And so they had that one that a
- 9:19Speaker 2: lot of people have seen that monument, and they put
- 9:23Speaker 2: a gate around it, and I think they put some
- 9:27Speaker 2: security back because people are still knocking the gate down
- 9:30Speaker 2: and taking chunks out of the h out of the headstone.
- 9:41Speaker 2: But I think they had actually replaced the the monument
- 9:48Speaker 2: and replaced the bust and of his likeness and everything else.
- 9:53Speaker 2: And uh, there's also another person that as you go
- 10:05Speaker 2: there in the cemetery, and there's also another one that's
- 10:16Speaker 2: also buried. There was the first year for Deadwood seth Bullock,
- 10:22Speaker 2: who became a businessman and hoteler rests on top of
- 10:27Speaker 2: the steep trail of plot ninety nine. There was a
- 10:34Speaker 2: phenomena Deadwood's below the hike where they even more pristine
- 10:40Speaker 2: views back in town. You get the backstory with characters
- 10:46Speaker 2: their time at Deadwood in the Daisy seventy sixth museum
- 10:53Speaker 2: and with Bullock Hotel. They say they could see, uh,
- 11:01Speaker 2: you know Bullock. You could also smell the cigar smoke
- 11:07Speaker 2: and wh there be no one smoking the cigars and
- 11:13Speaker 2: places they see him sitting there with the you know,
- 11:18Speaker 2: cigar smoke in and ghostly form also appears in photos
- 11:23Speaker 2: and are on displaying not only knocking about the hotel building,
- 11:30Speaker 2: He's not the only one knocking out on the hotel
- 11:35Speaker 2: built in eighteen ninety five, Bill took many people during
- 11:39Speaker 2: the Colorado Break and small children that succumbs to.
- 11:44Speaker 4: The disease.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Or roam the building as well, moving shiny things and
- 11:52Speaker 2: organizing change by domination. Some say that there they're hanging
- 11:58Speaker 2: around a room to a I guests have seen a
- 12:03Speaker 2: faint figure still hanging there in nineteenth century decorps. Original
- 12:11Speaker 2: staircase of wooden bar provided a perfect backdrop of these
- 12:17Speaker 2: paranormal tells. You experienced them one of the hotel tours
- 12:24Speaker 2: Friday through Saturday.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Nights at Deadwood re.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Enactors during the during the scary time as well and
- 12:36Speaker 2: at the Adams House Like a dead Wood, however, seen
- 12:45Speaker 2: it's about in eighteen ninety two. Indoor plumbing, electricity and telephone.
- 12:50Speaker 2: After Adams died of a stroke in the house, said
- 12:54Speaker 2: that his wife could still hear it walking around the
- 12:59Speaker 2: second before where she left the house and its contents
- 13:02Speaker 2: and Dutch. So it sat empty for fifty years until
- 13:08Speaker 2: it was turned into a red breakfast and later a museum.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Visitors and employees have seen a rocket chair bopped in
- 13:18Speaker 2: its own and encouraged, a shadowy encountered a shadowy man
- 13:25Speaker 2: standing at the upstairs window, and her voices and footsteps
- 13:32Speaker 2: in the rooms throughout the house, spirits and all. The
- 13:36Speaker 2: Adams House is perfectly preservated, preserved a window into the
- 13:43Speaker 2: nineteenth century Victorian life, from the music room with the
- 13:48Speaker 2: original sheet music, to the medicine to the medicine in
- 13:54Speaker 2: the bathroom on a tours take place hourly on October evenings. Well,
- 14:02Speaker 2: I'm sure they still do it now. Then we go
- 14:08Speaker 2: to the historic Fremont Hotel and Casino. When Ron Russell
- 14:19Speaker 2: brought the Fremont a former brothel and nineteen eighty nine
- 14:25Speaker 2: and began renovations, the ghosts and other had other thoughts,
- 14:33Speaker 2: and Amy Allen and Steve Disha Valley of the Deadwood
- 14:41Speaker 2: Files visited death Deadwood Hotel. They experience an abundance of
- 14:49Speaker 2: paranormal activity on the third floor, especially from the spirit
- 14:55Speaker 2: of amy called grumpy Man. Ron Will later learned that
- 15:00Speaker 2: his name was Henry. He was still angry at his
- 15:05Speaker 2: prostitute girlfriend died a syphilis. There was also Maggie who
- 15:10Speaker 2: threw herself from the third floor window after learning that
- 15:14Speaker 2: her boyfriend left her. She still lingers there. And then
- 15:20Speaker 2: there are all the indications of photographed wharves and angos,
- 15:25Speaker 2: torches and ghostly touches. Ron puts the puts all of
- 15:31Speaker 2: his paranormal activity content during the Nartley hours, beginning with
- 15:37Speaker 2: Deadwood's heart Scrabble history, so that storylines next door at
- 15:46Speaker 2: the original Number ten saloon. And while Bill was killed,
- 15:53Speaker 2: his death chair was displaying just down the street, and
- 15:58Speaker 2: the old the old style Number ten modern day a
- 16:04Speaker 2: recreation of the original. After seeing the chairs, stayed for
- 16:11Speaker 2: gaming and music and stiff training. And another one that's
- 16:17Speaker 2: also dead Wood was Martha Jane Kennery. Also the name
- 16:22Speaker 2: was Clement Jane. You know, she she got attention also
- 16:33Speaker 2: being you know wild, you know, the frontiers woman, sharpshooter storyteller.
- 16:40Speaker 2: A lot of people didn't know if you know, she
- 16:44Speaker 2: was telling the truth or if she was lying or not.
- 16:48Speaker 2: But a lot of people you know, thought she was,
- 16:52Speaker 2: you know, girlfriend of well Bill Hitcock, even though she
- 16:55Speaker 2: he was already married, but.
- 17:00Speaker 5: He was.
- 17:01Speaker 2: She was also a uffled Bills will Bus show. And
- 17:06Speaker 2: she was also a nineteen oh one Pan American expansion.
- 17:12Speaker 2: And she's also she was away at the time when
- 17:18Speaker 2: Hickock died, but she ended up Kevin real close to Hitcock.
- 17:26Speaker 2: And well, when she passed away, she her last her
- 17:36Speaker 2: last words was she wanted to be married by her
- 17:42Speaker 2: by her namesake and her her longtime friend Bill Hitcock.
- 17:51Speaker 2: And so you know, she's buried right there. Some say
- 17:56Speaker 2: still sees you know, serious or ghost walking around the
- 18:01Speaker 2: town along with Bill Hitcock. Some say still see his
- 18:07Speaker 2: ghost in his chair playing cards and and well, I
