- 0:00Back at gamble yukon Winnsday ninety five to fifty two. In the opener,
- 0:03they hang up the banner and then they get to work on the next season.
- 0:06We're joined by a kind of assistant, Luke Murray, coach. All
- 0:10around solid game for a lot of guys. I mean, let's start with
- 0:13clinging early. I mean, you were pounding it down and we talked to
- 0:15Alex Caravan about it and he said, yeah, Coach said, we're going
- 0:19down deep to the big guy, and you executed that well early. Yeah.
- 0:23I thought we did a pretty good job of getting them the ball.
- 0:25I mean we wanted to try to knock a little bit of the rust off
- 0:27for him. You know, he only got back in practice this week,
- 0:30so you know he's still working through some things. But I thought he did
- 0:33a pretty good job. And then when you went to the bench, it
- 0:36looked like I don't want to say a repeat because that's not right, but
- 0:39Samson Johnson coming off the bench as a center behind Clinging now after Snogle clinging
- 0:44last year, I mean that's a pretty good combination you got going. Yeah,
- 0:48absolutely, I know coach has been talking about it in the media quite
- 0:51a bit. You know and how it says some similarities to last year's group
- 0:54with the domin and with Donovan. And I know a lot of people haven't
- 0:57had a chance to see Sampson because of, you know, the injuries last
- 0:59year and kind of how crowded the front court was in his freshman year.
- 1:02But he's super talented and he definitely gives us a different look, you know,
- 1:04a big time vertical lob threat, explosive athletes. So those two guys
- 1:08have been really really good together and I'm glad they had a chance to show
- 1:12that tonight. Yeah, and the good news is you get ten fouls between
- 1:15them. Samson got four here tonight. He got three blocks, so did
- 1:19Donovan. You had ten blocks as a team. That's always a good category.
- 1:23Yeah, absolutely, And I thought in the first half there are probably
- 1:26two or three more that we should have blocked, you know. I didn't
- 1:26think we did a great job of protecting the rim early. Donovan didn't have
- 1:30any blocks at halftime, but he ended up getting three blocks in the five
- 1:33and a half minutes that he played in the second half. So that was
- 1:36nice to see Cam Spencer five assists in this one. Tristan Newton when another
- 1:38solid game, three assists, fourteen points, seven rebounds. He's a good
- 1:42rebounder for a guard. He always has been, you know, the triple
- 1:45doubles from last year. But he does a really good job of getting it
- 1:48on the defensive glass. And then that helps our transition game as well.
- 1:51You know, when you have a guard that can get it and go,
- 1:53that obviously opens things up. And the young guys, what did you make
- 1:56of them? Solid and ball scored a basket. You got Jayden Ross involved
- 1:59a little bit, and you know the guys obviously we've got to get to
- 2:02Castle here in a second. But you know, the first time you get
- 2:05on a court in a game in college, you never know what's gonna happen.
- 2:08Yeah, absolutely absolutely. I mean they're still trying to get their feet
- 2:10wet. Obviously, it's a lot you know, you see the banner drop,
- 2:13you gotta sold out crowd, it's your first game. I mean,
- 2:15there's a lot of emotions that are kind of factoring into it. But I
- 2:19thought Jaylen Stewart was impressive. You know, I thought he did a nice
- 2:22job in the nine minutes that he was in there at five points and three
- 2:23rebounds, did some really good things I thought, you know, Solo was
- 2:28a little bit rushed today. He's been an unbelievable shooter for us in the
- 2:30practice setting, shooting over forty percent from three, So I don't think that
- 2:35was truly indicative of who he is. And I think Jayden, you know,
- 2:38the ball didn't find him a whole lot in the nine minutes that he's
- 2:39been in, but he really has practice well for us, So I think
- 2:44those guys would continue to get more comfortable, you know, Saturday and beyond,
- 2:46and we're gonna need him. I think a jink Solo because I was
- 2:50talking about his three point shooting and Praice, I only I only repeat what
- 2:53I hear from you and Dan. So as soon as I said that he
- 2:55missed like three, yeah, yeah, you know, I thought he rushed
- 2:58to rush the first two, probably one I thought was down, and then
- 3:00that the third one, which is an air ball, which I haven't seen
- 3:02from him before. But again, I think that's all part of, you
- 3:06know, the first game, being out there and trying to get yourself comfortable.
- 3:08But he's a big time shooter and I have no doubt that he's gonna
- 3:10shoot a really high percentage this year, all Right, quick final thought on
- 3:14Steph Castle. Nineteen minutes, A knocked down a three, five, he
- 3:16got the free throw line eight times. He ends up with twelve points,
- 3:21He gets a couple of assists, he gets five rebounds. He does a
- 3:23little bit of everything for a guy who's in his first year, in his
- 3:25first game. Yeah, no, absolutely. I thought he really got comfortable
- 3:29in the second half. You know, again, first time these guys are
- 3:31out there on the floor. But he's so big and physical. I mean
- 3:35he's he's six six and he's two hundred and twenty pounds and he's really hard
- 3:38to keep off the foul line. He really does a good job of body
- 3:40seeking on his drives and getting himself there so and then obviously on the offensive
- 3:45last four offensive rebounds. He really does some some impressive things. And he
- 3:50was nice to see him get comfortable, knock down the three and have the
- 3:52nice spin finish in the second half. I think he felt good about himself.
- 3:54He's got a good handle, doesn't he he does. I like his
- 3:57handle. Yeah, he's a good player. Yeah, all right, coach,
- 3:59we appreciate the thanks. You got it.
