- 1:16Speaker 3: You know, after you have these these long streaks of
- 1:20Speaker 3: hot days like this, you want to come on and go, hey,
- 1:21Speaker 3: it's going to be sunny in sixty five today. But
- 1:24Speaker 3: that's not the case. It's going to continue for the
- 1:26Speaker 3: next few days. It looks like we'll get through it somehow.
- 1:29Speaker 3: And I will say this, I was, I was leaving
- 1:31Speaker 3: for work this morning. I noticed there are a couple
- 1:33Speaker 3: of my neighbors were getting new roofs today because we
- 1:36Speaker 3: are continuing the cleanup after the hailstorm in Tays Valley
- 1:40Speaker 3: a couple of months ago. And I mean those guys
- 1:43Speaker 3: were out there starting at about six o'clock this morning,
- 1:45Speaker 3: out there on the roofs, trying to get everybody squared
- 1:48Speaker 3: away there. And I do know for a fact that
- 1:50Speaker 3: one of the companies lost four guys yesterday. When I
- 1:53Speaker 3: say they lost them, I don't mean that they that
- 1:55Speaker 3: they perished, but they lost four guys because of the
- 1:58Speaker 3: heat yesterday. So they're working with with with some a
- 2:03Speaker 3: little less numbers today because of that. Now the gays
- 2:05Speaker 3: are going to be okay, but they're not really a
- 2:07Speaker 3: whole lot. You can do in that situation of them
- 2:09Speaker 3: get ivs and I'm giving a little bit of rest.
- 2:11Speaker 3: So if you are going to be working outside today,
- 2:13Speaker 3: you don't need me to remind you to take it easy,
- 2:15Speaker 3: but please please do. Coming up on the show a
- 2:18Speaker 3: little bit later on, Tim Brady from the Charleston Convention

- 3:08Speaker 3: All right, so we got some news earlier this week.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Of course, the cleanup continues from the devastating flooding in
- 3:15Speaker 3: both Marion and Ohio Counties, and we talked about this
- 3:19Speaker 3: on Metro News Midday that some sheriff's departments, a couple
- 3:22Speaker 3: of them around the state, had sent some deputies up
- 3:24Speaker 3: there to kind of help out, specifically in Ohio County
- 3:27Speaker 3: and our own Knawa County Sheriff's department was one of
- 3:30Speaker 3: those organizations that sent some troops up there kind of
- 3:33Speaker 3: help outs. Chief Deputy Sean snuffers whether it's along with
- 3:36Speaker 3: Sheriff Joe Crawford Shriff, we'll start with you, good morning,
- 3:39Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
- 3:40Speaker 5: Dave, good morning, thanks for having us. We appreciate you
- 3:42Speaker 5: bringing us on the show.
- 3:43Speaker 3: And a deputy Chief Deputy Snuffer, thank you for being
- 3:46Speaker 3: here as well. Thank you Dave for having us. And guys,
- 3:48Speaker 3: we'll start with you, Joe. We all saw the pictures
- 3:51Speaker 3: and the videos out of both marrying and Ohio Counties.
- 3:54Speaker 3: The need is still great for the cleanup, and unfortunately
- 3:59Speaker 3: there worse some reports of some other issues up there.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Not widespread, but still it's problematic because it's not what
- 4:05Speaker 3: we do as West Virginians. We try to take care
- 4:07Speaker 3: of each other. But we did have a situation a
- 4:09Speaker 3: couple of them in Ohio County. We talked to those
- 4:12Speaker 3: officials on the Metro News midday about it that some
- 4:15Speaker 3: of the folks, some bad actors had come in. We're
- 4:17Speaker 3: doing some looting and some you know, stealing of other items,
- 4:20Speaker 3: and so some of the departments up there, I had
- 4:23Speaker 3: to ask for a little help, and you guys responded.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Yeah, Dave, thanks Under Chapter seven twenty six and six
- 4:30Speaker 5: that provides us the vehicle on Avenue to go assist
- 4:34Speaker 5: other sheriff's departments throughout the state. So I received notification
- 4:39Speaker 5: from the Sheriff Association Chief Sheriff Nelson Croft from Ohio
- 4:46Speaker 5: County was a requesting assistance. So when we got the email,
- 4:50Speaker 5: I reached out to Sheriff Croft and we started communicating
- 4:55Speaker 5: figure out what they needed. You know, I offered, obviously
- 4:57Speaker 5: all of our resources that we have here in Kanall County.
- 5:01Speaker 5: That's what we do, you know, we try to help
- 5:03Speaker 5: take care of each other. So the request was to
- 5:07Speaker 5: have manpower to come up and assist with patrols and
- 5:10Speaker 5: some of the minor looting that was isolated areas. You know,
- 5:14Speaker 5: when we talked, it was on Tuesday the seventeenth, I believe,
- 5:18Speaker 5: and they were still in active response mode. They were
- 5:22Speaker 5: still in the search and rescue mode when we talked,
- 5:29Speaker 5: which transitioned later in the week to more of a
- 5:31Speaker 5: recovery effort. But that's kind of how we got you know,
- 5:35Speaker 5: got involved, and we reached out and we sent four
- 5:38Speaker 5: of our uh four of our deputies to that location.
- 5:41Speaker 5: They were up there Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and came
- 5:44Speaker 5: home Sunday afternoon. Other agency, other sheriff's agencies also they
- 5:50Speaker 5: were you know, took a little bit of planning on
- 5:52Speaker 5: their part to kind of spread it out to where
- 5:54Speaker 5: they had enough coverage. Basically, what we did was covered
- 5:56Speaker 5: the night shift twelve hours. So we offered all of
- 6:00Speaker 5: our resources.
- 6:01Speaker 6: You know, we have dive team, we.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Had side besides whatever they needed we made, you know,
- 6:07Speaker 5: we offer that to them. But uh, you know, I
- 6:11Speaker 5: want to say this, you know, let's still continue to
- 6:14Speaker 5: keep uh, you know high in Marion Counties in our
- 6:16Speaker 5: thoughts and prayers. Uh, they're still it's a long recovery
- 6:20Speaker 5: process and those people still a matter of fact, as
- 6:23Speaker 5: of this week, they still have other sheriff's agencies that
- 6:26Speaker 5: are sending people up there to sist with them with them.
- 6:29Speaker 3: And I think, guys, what we sometimes forgetting of, Mister Snuffer,
- 6:35Speaker 3: I ask you to weigh in on this. What we
- 6:36Speaker 3: forget is with our first responders out there, is that
- 6:39Speaker 3: they're also dealing with situations at their own homes. I
- 6:42Speaker 3: mean you look at the Tri Delphia Fire Department outside
- 6:45Speaker 3: Wheeling up there in Ohio County. I mean their actual
- 6:47Speaker 3: fire department was flooded, the actual physical building. And we sometimes,
- 6:53Speaker 3: I think, whenever there is a disaster, and we've seen
- 6:54Speaker 3: it here in Kanaw County of course as well, we
- 6:57Speaker 3: forget that these these people, these are people with lives
- 7:00Speaker 3: and with families and with loved ones and with structures
- 7:02Speaker 3: and so on and so forth. Sometimes they're trying to
- 7:06Speaker 3: clean up their own home.
- 7:08Speaker 7: Yeah, we dealt with that here in twenty sixteen when
- 7:10Speaker 7: we had the flooding Clinton and Oakie area, several of
- 7:14Speaker 7: our deputies lived there, they dealt with the same impact.
- 7:18Speaker 7: Their homes were destroyed. Several emergency responders and married in
- 7:24Speaker 7: Ohio Keanty, they were dealing with the same thing. You know,
- 7:27Speaker 7: our guys stepped up. They we asked for volunteers. We
- 7:32Speaker 7: got four volunteers. Immediately we began planning how we could
- 7:36Speaker 7: help them. We got in touch with Sheriff Croft, immediately
- 7:40Speaker 7: sent people to the area and they met with Sheriff
- 7:43Speaker 7: Croft and got to sign their respective areas and started
- 7:46Speaker 7: helping those first responders up there.
- 7:48Speaker 3: So anything we could do we did. So how does
- 7:50Speaker 3: that work? I mean, I mean, you show up in
- 7:52Speaker 3: your I mean, I guess I'm just kind of curious
- 7:54Speaker 3: about do you show up in our own cruisers from
- 7:57Speaker 3: camaw do you use theirs? Absolutely work.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Those are good questions, you know, they're they're logistical questions,
- 8:03Speaker 5: you know, operational questions. And and we sent our you know,
- 8:06Speaker 5: we sent our vehicles. They were marked with Knall County Sheriff.
- 8:09Speaker 5: You know a lot of the Sheriff's vehicles look same,
- 8:11Speaker 5: similar in nature anyway, So uh so they took their
- 8:16Speaker 5: you know, they took their own vehicles, and we made
- 8:18Speaker 5: sure that they had supplies to for them to maintain
- 8:21Speaker 5: what they needed personally. They had already made arrangements for lodging, meals, fuel.
- 8:29Speaker 5: You know, a lot of times, a lot of these
- 8:31Speaker 5: things you don't think, uh think about from a general
- 8:36Speaker 5: public perspective, But there's a lot of planning and a
- 8:39Speaker 5: lot of resources that go into making sure that when
- 8:43Speaker 5: we send those we won't make sure that our people
- 8:45Speaker 5: are are taking care of themself sufficient as well.
- 8:48Speaker 3: And I've always when I when I hear that these stories,
- 8:50Speaker 3: I always think, course, GPS, I guess makes it a
- 8:52Speaker 3: whole lot easier right now. But you know, you're asking
- 8:54Speaker 3: these folks, uh, which they willingly did? They used that
- 8:57Speaker 3: he had wore volunteers to go into an area that
- 8:59Speaker 3: they don't know. Well, I mean it would be like,
- 9:00Speaker 3: you know, people from Ohio County coming down here. So
- 9:03Speaker 3: it's a quick learn it's a quick learning process for
- 9:06Speaker 3: those deputies to have to come in and Okay, well
- 9:08Speaker 3: we got to go out on Brown's run. Well you
- 9:10Speaker 3: know exactly where's Brown's run. Well, it's up with the
- 9:12Speaker 3: old trailer, is okay. Well, you know, you know these
- 9:15Speaker 3: little nuances when you cover these things, and so there's
- 9:18Speaker 3: a quick turnaround for them to learn these things.
- 9:20Speaker 2: It is.
- 9:22Speaker 3: It is a difficult task forming go up there.
- 9:24Speaker 7: They don't know the people, they don't know their problem people,
- 9:28Speaker 7: so to speak, like they would hear in Kennall County.
- 9:31Speaker 7: They don't know if those people are supposed to be
- 9:32Speaker 7: in the area that they're in. So they they had
- 9:36Speaker 7: to stop pretty much everybody there and if they weren't
- 9:38Speaker 7: from the area, they they had them leave. GPS is
- 9:41Speaker 7: a key factor we have in car computers, GPS in
- 9:45Speaker 7: our cars, and it helped them out a lot, because
- 9:47Speaker 7: you're right, they don't know the area, they don't know
- 9:49Speaker 7: the people there, so it was a little bit of
- 9:52Speaker 7: a hiccup for them, but uh, you know, they dealt
- 9:54Speaker 7: with it.
- 9:54Speaker 3: They expected that we well, they're professionals. Yeah, and I'm sure,
- 9:59Speaker 3: I'm sure it didn't take them too long to get
- 10:00Speaker 3: figured out how wide spread sheriff was the problem with
- 10:04Speaker 3: looting up there. What'd you guys say?
- 10:05Speaker 2: It was?
- 10:06Speaker 5: It was in isolated areas, but they did have it,
- 10:09Speaker 5: and those were the area they concentrated in and obviously
- 10:13Speaker 5: anybody that was out. I don't know if there was
- 10:17Speaker 5: actually a curfew put in. I don't believe there was,
- 10:20Speaker 5: but basically they were. They went up there and met
- 10:23Speaker 5: with those they had contacts there within the Sheriff's office
- 10:27Speaker 5: during during their shifts. Whatever they needed, we could contact
- 10:32Speaker 5: someone from their command staff as well to make sure
- 10:37Speaker 5: if we had any questions or whatever. They were very accommodating,
- 10:40Speaker 5: you know, it was a smooth, smooth operation. Like I said,
- 10:45Speaker 5: they the lodging the fuel. You know, there was maybe
- 10:50Speaker 5: a little issue with some of the fuel, but we
- 10:52Speaker 5: sent them with gas cars basically fuel cars to make
- 10:55Speaker 5: sure that they had everything that they needed. But all
- 10:59Speaker 5: in all, I mean, when you got the grand scheme
- 11:00Speaker 5: of things, it went very well well.
- 11:03Speaker 3: And I think in talking and we've spent a lot
- 11:05Speaker 3: of time at Metro News Midday talking with those folks
- 11:07Speaker 3: up there. They I've got to know Stacy r Stacy Steven,
- 11:11Speaker 3: I should say, with the United Way up there, and
- 11:14Speaker 3: she's just talked about the outpouring support that's come, not
- 11:16Speaker 3: only in this respect, but I mean fire departments sent
- 11:18Speaker 3: up new trucks and an auto dealership in that area
- 11:22Speaker 3: donated a new pickup truck just because they needed that
- 11:24Speaker 3: to help in the hall supplies. That's what West Virginians do.
- 11:27Speaker 3: And I'd like to try to focus more on that,
- 11:30Speaker 3: but you do have these isolated and what made it
- 11:32Speaker 3: even more sad was from what I was told by
- 11:35Speaker 3: my contacts up there, is that those isolated issues was
- 11:38Speaker 3: the local people. It wasn't necessarily because there was a
- 11:41Speaker 3: lot of talks as well. These people are coming out
- 11:43Speaker 3: of Pennsylvania and whatever turned out it was. I mean,
- 11:45Speaker 3: from what I understand, it was primarily local people that
- 11:48Speaker 3: were doing that, but it was very small in nature.
- 11:51Speaker 3: The most most West Virginians are the first ones to
- 11:54Speaker 3: show up to help and what can we do? And
- 11:58Speaker 3: we saw that in this situation, and we're not unfamiliar
- 12:00Speaker 3: with that. As you alluded to. In twenty sixteen, we
- 12:02Speaker 3: had that same situation here in Kanawha County, and other
- 12:05Speaker 3: areas that had no ties necessarily to Kana County helped
- 12:08Speaker 3: us out as well.
- 12:09Speaker 8: Yeah, that's right. West Virginians.
- 12:11Speaker 7: Most of us are generous, we're kind, we want to
- 12:13Speaker 7: help help each other, We're there for each other. Historically
- 12:17Speaker 7: that's the way it's been. But you do have a
- 12:19Speaker 7: few bad actors. They're generally from the area that do this.
- 12:23Speaker 7: What we've seen when it happened here was the same
- 12:25Speaker 7: thing it was generally the people here that were doing
- 12:28Speaker 7: the bad acting. We didn't have a lot of people
- 12:30Speaker 7: coming from out of state. Speaking with our guys that
- 12:33Speaker 7: were up there, they had the same thing.
- 12:35Speaker 6: It was locals.
- 12:37Speaker 7: They were into stuff they shouldn't have been into, and
- 12:40Speaker 7: you know, we were there just to prevent it, stop it.
- 12:43Speaker 7: And when law enforcement action was taken up there, you know,
- 12:46Speaker 7: as the sheriff said, we contacted their command staff and
- 12:50Speaker 7: somebody came down and handled the paperwork and they arrest.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Hats off to the folks that volunteer, and hats off
- 12:56Speaker 3: to you guys for allowing that to have. And before
- 13:00Speaker 3: I let you go, because I know you guys got
- 13:01Speaker 3: a heart out. As we say in the radio busin
- 13:03Speaker 3: we's got a meeting to get to. I do want
- 13:05Speaker 3: to ask you what the temperatures going up? Crime normally
- 13:08Speaker 3: goes up as well because out of people maybe tempers
- 13:10Speaker 3: are a little bit on edge or whatever. What are
- 13:12Speaker 3: you seeing out there?
- 13:13Speaker 5: You hit the nail on the head. Our callboy tens appears,
- 13:18Speaker 5: you know, to go up during during the hot summer
- 13:21Speaker 5: months anyway. So yeah, I mean, we're making sure our
- 13:26Speaker 5: staffing levels are where they need to be. So absolutely,
- 13:30Speaker 5: I think you hit the on the head. About when
- 13:32Speaker 5: when the temperatures rise, so does tempers flare and you
- 13:36Speaker 5: see a lot more maybe domestic calls or whatever. But
- 13:40Speaker 5: I think I think you hit it pretty much.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Spot the commercial says you're not yourself when you're hungry,
- 13:45Speaker 3: it's also when you're hot, you're also not yourself as well. Hey,
- 13:48Speaker 3: final thirty seconds, I do want to ask you. Fourth
- 13:50Speaker 3: of July is coming up next week and a lot
- 13:52Speaker 3: of people will be out on the road and sometimes
- 13:54Speaker 3: we go to the barbecues and the fireworks and we
- 13:57Speaker 3: tip back a few too many. It happens. You guys
- 14:00Speaker 3: get extra patrols out there.
- 14:01Speaker 5: I'm imagining absolutely, well, we'll have extra patrols out during
- 14:04Speaker 5: the Fourth of July holidays, and we'll also be a
- 14:07Speaker 5: system with Regatta. So, uh, we've got a busy couple
- 14:09Speaker 5: of weeks ahead of us. So were looking to the challenge.
- 14:13Speaker 5: You know, obviously that's what we do. And I think
- 14:15Speaker 5: you know, you hit the nail on the head.
- 14:16Speaker 9: Two.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Dave to say that West Virginia's are different, and that's
- 14:20Speaker 5: why I love West Virginia.
- 14:23Speaker 6: We are different.
- 14:24Speaker 5: We take care of each other and we step up
- 14:25Speaker 5: when we need step up and take care. You know,
- 14:28Speaker 5: I go back to what happened down in, uh, you know,
- 14:31Speaker 5: in McDowell County, and that's that hadn't been too long ago,
- 14:35Speaker 5: and they're still they're still recovering from it. So you know,
- 14:37Speaker 5: I also want to maybe keep those people down there
- 14:40Speaker 5: in our thoughts and prayers as well.
- 14:41Speaker 3: All right, guys, I appreciate you being here, Chief Tempanty

- 17:47Speaker 3: Tim Brady from the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau is
- 17:51Speaker 3: with us. Mister Brady, good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 17:53Speaker 6: Thanks for having me, Dave. Always a pleasure to be
- 17:55Speaker 6: here with you.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Man.
- 17:56Speaker 3: It's always interesting when you know. I just had Joe
- 17:59Speaker 3: cars offered the sheriff and Chief daputy in a way
- 18:01Speaker 3: out and I stepped out during the the at the
- 18:05Speaker 3: commercial break there and I said, Tim, come in. The
- 18:06Speaker 3: first thing you're agreeted with his police officer.
- 18:08Speaker 6: Yeah, so, you know, but I don't have the cuffs
- 18:13Speaker 6: on and I don't anticipate wearing the orange jumpsuit later today,
- 18:15Speaker 6: So I think I'm okay, all right, you're good for today.
- 18:17Speaker 3: I'm good anyway.
- 18:18Speaker 6: We've actually never met Sheriff Crawford person to person, so
- 18:22Speaker 6: and they help us out with some of our events
- 18:23Speaker 6: at the CVB, So it was nice for me to
- 18:25Speaker 6: run into him in the hallway and just extend a
- 18:27Speaker 6: hand and say thank you. You know, they Sheriff's deputies
- 18:30Speaker 6: played a role in helping us with security at state
- 18:31Speaker 6: high school football championships. Certainly they had a hand in
- 18:35Speaker 6: helping with traffic control during and road closures during USA Cycling.
- 18:40Speaker 6: You know, those guys go out of their way to
- 18:42Speaker 6: help us out. So it was a nice opportunity for
- 18:44Speaker 6: me to just say thank you to Sheriff Crawford. Well,
- 18:46Speaker 6: and here's the thing about it.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Whether it's Regatta, whether it's TBT, whether it's football championships, basketball,
- 18:53Speaker 3: nothing happens without those guys, mean absolutely none of it.
- 18:56Speaker 6: I mean, CPD, I can't say enough about the Charleston
- 18:59Speaker 6: Police Department and Lieutenant haz Lieutenant Oldham you know, those
- 19:03Speaker 6: guys and the whole crew, the whole police Department were
- 19:07Speaker 6: such a huge asset during cycling, but the Sheriff's department
- 19:10Speaker 6: pitched in and helped out too, because that's a massive event.
- 19:12Speaker 6: So you know, I think CPD a lot when I
- 19:15Speaker 6: see them. Had never had the opportunity to thank Sheriff Crawford,
- 19:18Speaker 6: so it was nice to have that opportunity.
- 19:20Speaker 3: We do want to mention remind folks that Live on
- 19:23Speaker 3: the Levee is going on, but it's not Friday. It's Thursday.
- 19:27Speaker 3: It's Tomorrow night, Veterans Night over there, and I'm gonna
- 19:29Speaker 3: talk a little bit more about a little bit later
- 19:31Speaker 3: on Jim Strawn. Of course, you know mister Live on
- 19:33Speaker 3: the Levee. He'll be joining us on the show tomorrow.
- 19:35Speaker 3: But it is Thursday night, not Friday.
- 19:36Speaker 6: It is and it's in conjunction with an event that
- 19:38Speaker 6: the CVB is bringing in called the Great Race. The
- 19:40Speaker 6: Great Race is an antique car rally that goes city
- 19:43Speaker 6: to city across the country. One of their stops is
- 19:45Speaker 6: in Charleston. So the way it'll break out tomorrow, these
- 19:48Speaker 6: guys in these really cool old antique cars will be
- 19:51Speaker 6: leaving Frankfort, Kentucky in the morning and driving to Charleston
- 19:55Speaker 6: in a rally, and they'll get to Charleston, they'll park
- 19:59Speaker 6: their cars. They'll be like to pop up car show
- 20:01Speaker 6: on Canaul Boulevard where the food trucks normally will would be.
- 20:05Speaker 6: The food trucks will be up the side streets Thursday night,
- 20:08Speaker 6: but it'll be a pop up car show. Their ceremony
- 20:11Speaker 6: starts at four to twenty and then Live on the
- 20:14Speaker 6: Levee will kick off at six. But it's gonna be
- 20:16Speaker 6: kind of a cool thing to see all these old cars.
- 20:18Speaker 6: And then I also want to mention that the West
- 20:20Speaker 6: Virginia British Car Club is helping us out as volunteers
- 20:23Speaker 6: and they'll have their own car show on the first
- 20:25Speaker 6: block of Capitol Street, kind of in front of Sam's
- 20:27Speaker 6: and Groove. So if you're a car enthusiast or a
- 20:31Speaker 6: Phil Collins enthusiast or both, Thursday night is going to
- 20:34Speaker 6: be your night in downtown Charleston. So the Levey Live
- 20:36Speaker 6: on the Levee moves from Friday to Thursday this week
- 20:38Speaker 6: in partnership with this really cool antique car rally coming
- 20:41Speaker 6: through town.
- 20:42Speaker 3: Yeah, and the reference to Phil Collins. There the opening
- 20:45Speaker 3: act I guess there Tomorrow night is face Value.
- 20:48Speaker 6: Well, actually they're the headline. I believe they're the headliners.
- 20:50Speaker 6: I think the opening act is, yes, the Charlie West
- 20:53Speaker 6: All Stars and then okay, okay, all right, but Jim,
- 20:56Speaker 6: Jim knows that better than I. But the Phil Collins
- 20:59Speaker 6: Tribute band.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Either way, either either way, it's gonna be a great
- 21:02Speaker 3: night of music. And this Face Value, of course, that's
- 21:04Speaker 3: a Phil Collins album title. That's where the name comes from. Yep,
- 21:07Speaker 3: the album that brought us studio. No, that was no
- 21:10Speaker 3: jacket required. Oh you're right, you know you're right in
- 21:13Speaker 3: the air tonight, that's right, was the big single, that's right.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Don't try to out music, mean, Bernie, listen, I'm not.
- 21:17Speaker 3: I certainly wouldn't try to outfilll Collins. You out music me.
- 21:21Speaker 3: But now anything passed about ninety two pretty much out.
- 21:24Speaker 3: You're right, no jacket when it goes to the eighties stuff.
- 21:27Speaker 3: But anyway, this is a great, great band and I
- 21:30Speaker 3: actually I'm was gonna talk about this a little bit
- 21:31Speaker 3: later on my man Tony the Taylor's help it out
- 21:34Speaker 3: with the with the All Star group. He sent me
- 21:36Speaker 3: a clip of them doing the Alman Brothers Whipping Post,
- 21:40Speaker 3: which is one of its probably my all time favorite
- 21:42Speaker 3: Almond Brothers song, and I mean just tearing it up
- 21:45Speaker 3: and it's going to be a great concert event tomorrow night.
- 21:47Speaker 3: I wanted to go back to this, to this the
- 21:50Speaker 3: great race. How did Charleston get this?
- 21:52Speaker 6: So you know, we're actively out there trying to recruit
- 21:57Speaker 6: different types of events to come to the city. And
- 22:00Speaker 6: you go to all these trade shows year after year
- 22:02Speaker 6: that are you know, business to business trade shows where
- 22:05Speaker 6: you meet event planners and event organizers and you know,
- 22:08Speaker 6: maybe that year there's an opportunity to do business, but
- 22:10Speaker 6: maybe not, but you make the connection. This is a
- 22:13Speaker 6: group that we had met at a trade show several
- 22:16Speaker 6: years ago, had talked to them about Charleston, and the
- 22:18Speaker 6: first time they had the opportunity to schedule their route
- 22:21Speaker 6: to come through Charleston, they got in touch with us. So,
- 22:24Speaker 6: you know, these things don't happen in a vacuum, and
- 22:26Speaker 6: they don't happen overnight. Sometimes it takes several years of
- 22:29Speaker 6: relationship building with a group to to you know, find
- 22:34Speaker 6: the opportunity to bring them into town. And our director
- 22:37Speaker 6: of sales Rico Paton had met these folks and they
- 22:41Speaker 6: connected and here we are, and you know it, Charleston,
- 22:46Speaker 6: we have so much experience with closing streets and throwing
- 22:48Speaker 6: events that for an event like this, it was almost
- 22:50Speaker 6: Taylor made. We've got all the infrastructure there with a
- 22:52Speaker 6: hotel and with the levy right there, and you know,
- 22:55Speaker 6: we close down the street and we create this festival
- 22:57Speaker 6: atmosphere for them. I think it's going to be a
- 22:59Speaker 6: great experience for both the participants in the event and
- 23:02Speaker 6: the local community to come out and see some cool cars.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Talking to Tim Brady from the Charleston CVV to Dave
- 23:07Speaker 3: aland showing five Eddie Live is Bronching parted by Morgan
- 23:09Speaker 3: and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. If you're entered
- 23:12Speaker 3: visit for the people dot comby had a text here Tim,
- 23:14Speaker 3: I said, any idea what time the cars will be
- 23:16Speaker 3: coming on sixty four to watch the five to one
- 23:19Speaker 3: to one cameras.
- 23:21Speaker 6: You know, that's a really good question and I don't
- 23:23Speaker 6: want to answer it with incorrect information. So what I'll
- 23:25Speaker 6: tell you, Dave is let me get an idea of
- 23:27Speaker 6: that and I will pass it along to you later
- 23:29Speaker 6: today via text and you can share it with your audience.
- 23:31Speaker 3: All right, yeah, man, I tell you I mentioned this
- 23:33Speaker 3: on the show. I think it was yesterday, maybe Monday.
- 23:36Speaker 3: I was in town Friday night. Of course, we had
- 23:38Speaker 3: the launch of Animal Ale, Steve Animal's beer over at
- 23:41Speaker 3: five Street that was going on. We had the Rolls
- 23:43Speaker 3: on the River Pepperoni Role event, and then Saturday, two
- 23:46Speaker 3: thousand or so of our closest friends out on the
- 23:48Speaker 3: boulevard with foam with the dome. So many big things
- 23:53Speaker 3: going on in Charleston and really the surrounding areas too.
- 23:57Speaker 3: I mean two to three events sometimes per weekend.
- 24:00Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's sort of by design, and there are
- 24:04Speaker 6: some of us that have this conversation on a regular basis.
- 24:08Speaker 3: The philosophy used to.
- 24:09Speaker 6: Be find your own weekend and plant your flag and
- 24:12Speaker 6: then try to make sure that you own that weekend.
- 24:14Speaker 6: I think that's a bad strategy from a tourism standpoint.
- 24:17Speaker 6: What you want is you want two, three, four different
- 24:20Speaker 6: things happening in the city, because then it makes the
- 24:23Speaker 6: city more vibrant for someone coming in. If you're coming
- 24:26Speaker 6: down from say Cleveland, and you want to spend the
- 24:28Speaker 6: weekend in Charleston and Cleveland's a great market for us.
- 24:30Speaker 6: It's an emerging market where we're seeing more and more
- 24:32Speaker 6: people from that part of Ohio coming down and spending
- 24:35Speaker 6: two or three days long weekends here in Charleston. If
- 24:38Speaker 6: there are three, four, even five events going on, it's
- 24:41Speaker 6: a it's a much easier sell to say, hey, drive
- 24:44Speaker 6: three or four hours, come down, spend two or three
- 24:46Speaker 6: days and go to all these fun things. So to me,
- 24:49Speaker 6: that collaboration makes us a more vibrant and attractive destination.
- 24:53Speaker 3: Indeed it does. And look, I know a little something,
- 24:55Speaker 3: not as much as you do, but I know a
- 24:56Speaker 3: little something about the tourism game and the way that
- 25:00Speaker 3: you were able to track things now where people are
- 25:02Speaker 3: coming from. These little these little computers we carry in
- 25:04Speaker 3: our pocket make it really easy. Plus credit cards, debit
- 25:07Speaker 3: cards and things like that. We know where these people
- 25:09Speaker 3: are coming from. We know about the amount of people
- 25:12Speaker 3: that are coming in from Pittsburgh and d C is
- 25:14Speaker 3: a huge market here. I mean, I know, I think
- 25:16Speaker 3: wasn't d C the was it DC or Pittsburgh was
- 25:19Speaker 3: one of the biggest areas for regatta.
- 25:20Speaker 6: Well, you come in consistently Pittsburgh and DC are in
- 25:23Speaker 6: the top five for most of our big events, but
- 25:25Speaker 6: for Regatta last year, yeah, both were in the top five.
- 25:29Speaker 6: We're actually working now on the reporting from USA Cycling.
- 25:32Speaker 6: We hope to get that out next week with economic
- 25:34Speaker 6: impact and visitor data, and I can tell you that
- 25:37Speaker 6: those markets are probably going to show up really strong
- 25:39Speaker 6: for our USA Cycling Pro Ro National Championships that we
- 25:43Speaker 6: held back in May. And that data is so useful
- 25:46Speaker 6: to us because none of us have big, huge budget budgets.
- 25:49Speaker 6: We don't have Atlanta or Nashville or or you know,
- 25:53Speaker 6: Virginia Beach budgets. But if we know where our visitors
- 25:57Speaker 6: are coming from, and then we can apply a fish
- 25:59Speaker 6: where the fish are strategy. If we know that people
- 26:01Speaker 6: are predisposed to come here from Pittsburgh or Cleveland or
- 26:04Speaker 6: Columbus or DC or Philly, then we go spend more
- 26:07Speaker 6: money in those markets and get more of those folks.
- 26:08Speaker 6: It's so much easier to do that than to try
- 26:11Speaker 6: to develop a new market. So that data is incredibly
- 26:14Speaker 6: valuable to us because it helps us market better to
- 26:18Speaker 6: those tourists coming in.
- 26:19Speaker 3: And I don't want you to think we're dismissing the
- 26:20Speaker 3: local people either. Because that's still the bulk of what
- 26:24Speaker 3: enjoys these events.
- 26:25Speaker 6: So that's an interesting point, and this came up last
- 26:28Speaker 6: year when we ran the reporting for the USA Cycling event.
- 26:31Speaker 6: The number of visitors coming to town significantly increased during
- 26:36Speaker 6: that six day period last year, but also the percentage
- 26:41Speaker 6: of visitors to locals went down. And when you really
- 26:45Speaker 6: start to parse that data, what that shows you is, yeah,
- 26:47Speaker 6: we increased our visitation, but we exponentially increased the number
- 26:51Speaker 6: of local people that were coming out and engaging with
- 26:53Speaker 6: the event and spending money in downtown Charleston while the
- 26:56Speaker 6: event was going on. So you really can have it
- 26:59Speaker 6: both ways. You really can increase your visitation, but with
- 27:02Speaker 6: the right events and the right marketing and the right
- 27:04Speaker 6: social media messaging, you can get also more local people
- 27:07Speaker 6: to come out and that's where the businesses really start
- 27:09Speaker 6: to feel that impact. And I can tell you anecdotally
- 27:11Speaker 6: there were some great things that happened during Cycling this year.
- 27:15Speaker 6: One of the breweries downtown Fife Street that you mentioned
- 27:18Speaker 6: had their single best afternoon shift ever. The four to
- 27:22Speaker 6: ten shift on Friday night of the USA Cycling Race
- 27:25Speaker 6: was the absolute best single shift that they've ever had.
- 27:29Speaker 6: In their history. Short Story Pizza ran out of pizza
- 27:32Speaker 6: crust like three different days. BlackSheep had to close early
- 27:37Speaker 6: one day because they just run out of food. I mean,
- 27:39Speaker 6: you start hearing those things and you start understanding that's
- 27:42Speaker 6: the true impact of these events. Yeah, we talked about
- 27:44Speaker 6: hotel rooms. Yeah we talk about visitor spend. But when
- 27:47Speaker 6: real locally owned businesses are realizing that kind of business,
- 27:52Speaker 6: that's what it's about.
- 27:53Speaker 3: We talk about heads and beds all the time, but
- 27:55Speaker 3: it's also nice when the heads that live in Kanawha
- 27:58Speaker 3: County and the surrounding areas business owners could benefit from
- 28:01Speaker 3: these things as well.
- 28:01Speaker 6: And that's our that's really our goal. You know, our
- 28:04Speaker 6: goal is to this. It's to bring in the it's
- 28:07Speaker 6: to bring in the events that drive visitation, but also
- 28:09Speaker 6: create that robust local economy where people are out spending money.
- 28:13Speaker 6: They're in five Street, they're in Short Story, They're they're
- 28:16Speaker 6: at Pies and Pints, they're at Adelphia. They're spending money.
- 28:20Speaker 6: Whether their visitors are local, that money is important to
- 28:23Speaker 6: those local businesses.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Dave Allen showing five eighty Live is brought to you
- 28:26Speaker 3: part by a Bridge Valley offering custom tailored trainings to
- 28:29Speaker 3: supply a skilled graduates and apprenticeships for your company. Visit
- 28:32Speaker 3: Bridge Valley dot edu. Tim schedule starting to drop for TBT.
- 28:36Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely, teams have been announced, schedules starting to drop,
- 28:40Speaker 6: and I did want to make sure that we talked
- 28:41Speaker 6: a little bit about that before I got out of
- 28:43Speaker 6: here today. The both the Herd that and the Best
- 28:47Speaker 6: Virginia rosters have been announced and in that region heard
- 28:51Speaker 6: that is the two seed. Best Virginia is the three
- 28:53Speaker 6: seed UH, and they will both open play on Friday,
- 28:59Speaker 6: July eighteen. Heard that place at six. Best Virginia plays
- 29:03Speaker 6: at eight, and if they both win, they would face
- 29:05Speaker 6: each other on Sunday, July twentieth at five p m.
- 29:09Speaker 6: And that game will also be broadcast on FS one,
- 29:14Speaker 6: and then the regional championship would be on Tuesday, July
- 29:18Speaker 6: twenty second. And there is a model where if ticket
- 29:21Speaker 6: sales are strong enough in Charleston that the next round
- 29:24Speaker 6: could also be hosted in Charleston. It's competitive among regions
- 29:27Speaker 6: based on ticket sales, so if they have higher ticket
- 29:30Speaker 6: sales than the next region over those that next round
- 29:34Speaker 6: of games would be played here. But both teams play Friday,
- 29:37Speaker 6: could potentially play each other Sunday, and then one of
- 29:39Speaker 6: them could be playing in the championship on Tuesday, July twentieth.
- 29:43Speaker 3: And a couple of years ago, when the TBT first
- 29:46Speaker 3: came to town, I guess maybe I miscalculated because I thought, well,
- 29:50Speaker 3: it sounds like a neat little event, you know, WVU,
- 29:52Speaker 3: Marshall people kind of going back and forth as we
- 29:54Speaker 3: like to do from time to time. And then but
- 29:56Speaker 3: then I saw the interest in this and I thought, Okay,
- 29:58Speaker 3: I greatly underestimated how popular this event is.
- 30:01Speaker 6: Yeah, and it actually stands to reason because you know,
- 30:03Speaker 6: with no pro team here in West Virginia, we cling
- 30:06Speaker 6: to our collegiate teams. You know, Marshall and WVU are
- 30:10Speaker 6: our pro teams. So when you get those alumni and
- 30:13Speaker 6: and well, it was a perfect storm really for Best
- 30:16Speaker 6: Virginia that first year as well, because you know, all
- 30:18Speaker 6: these guys from the from the sort of the Golden Age,
- 30:21Speaker 6: the Glory years that had come back to play. You know,
- 30:24Speaker 6: they almost have mythical standing.
- 30:26Speaker 3: In our state.
- 30:26Speaker 6: Some of these guys, guys like John Flowers, guys like
- 30:29Speaker 6: Kevin Jones, their they're cult figures as much as they
- 30:33Speaker 6: are former athletes, So for folks to have the opportunity
- 30:37Speaker 6: to see them come out and play competitively again, it
- 30:39Speaker 6: was really exciting and it was such a great atmosphere
- 30:41Speaker 6: in the in the coliseum that night when the two
- 30:44Speaker 6: teams played each other. And we're just hoping to recreate
- 30:47Speaker 6: that uh here in July.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Uh do you want to mention regatta it's coming up
- 30:51Speaker 3: next week where we said something about that. Yeah, so
- 30:54Speaker 3: a couple of boats are coming in. Yeah, we all
- 30:56Speaker 3: spend a lot of time next week talking about that
- 30:59Speaker 3: with the mayor and with all the yeah there's involved
- 31:00Speaker 3: with Forgatta.
- 31:01Speaker 6: But I know you have to keep it a close
- 31:02Speaker 6: eye on that as well. Sure we track a lot
- 31:04Speaker 6: of visitation during Regatta.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Uh.
- 31:06Speaker 6: The economic impact to our city is is incredibly significant
- 31:11Speaker 6: and and it's a it's a time for us to
- 31:14Speaker 6: show off our city that kind of event with four
- 31:17Speaker 6: days of really great live music and all of the
- 31:20Speaker 6: other activities that go along with it. And again that
- 31:23Speaker 6: goes back to that notion of you know, Regatta is
- 31:26Speaker 6: sort of different in the sense that it's a whole
- 31:28Speaker 6: bunch of different events under one umbrella. But you want
- 31:31Speaker 6: to talk about a great time to come to Charleston.
- 31:33Speaker 6: If you're from somewhere in Ohio or Pennsylvania or North Carolina,
- 31:37Speaker 6: Kentucky and you want to you want to get away
- 31:39Speaker 6: for a weekend. What a great time to come. You
- 31:41Speaker 6: can see free live music of an incredibly high caliber,
- 31:45Speaker 6: uh for four nights in a row. Uh, You've got
- 31:48Speaker 6: all this great food, all this, all these other great activities.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Uh.
- 31:51Speaker 6: Such a great time for our city. And uh, you know,
- 31:54Speaker 6: you can't say enough about the the vision and leadership
- 31:57Speaker 6: of Mayor Goodwin and her staff and and bringing that
- 32:01Speaker 6: back and creating this showcase for our city. I mean,
- 32:05Speaker 6: it's it's hard to put into words. I want to
- 32:09Speaker 6: go back to the TVT just for a moment. Something
- 32:11Speaker 6: else that is of interest? Is there is another because
- 32:14Speaker 6: we've focused over the years on Heard That and Best Virginia.
- 32:18Speaker 6: But I would be remiss if I didn't mention my
- 32:20Speaker 6: coworker on Metro News Midday, my co host Amanda Bear
- 32:23Speaker 6: in the Pride of Ohio University as a Marshall person.
- 32:27Speaker 6: It's very hard for me to say that, but I'm
- 32:29Speaker 6: just going to go ahead and say the Bobcats they
- 32:30Speaker 6: got a team this year too, and they're called the
- 32:34Speaker 6: Court Street.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Kings, So there's a little bit more. You know, Athens
- 32:37Speaker 3: is not that farm. We're a little bit more regional
- 32:39Speaker 3: flavor in this as well, other than just Marshall and Wu.
- 32:42Speaker 6: You know, I can only name one former Ou basketball
- 32:45Speaker 6: player and Gary Trent went there. Yeah, yeah, the only
- 32:49Speaker 6: and I'm sure he's not playing, so I won't know
- 32:51Speaker 6: any of these guys. But all jokes aside. I mean,
- 32:53Speaker 6: you think about how close Athens is. So that's a
- 32:56Speaker 6: marketing strategy for us as well. From a social media
- 32:59Speaker 6: and digital standpoint. We're pushing ticket sales messaging to that
- 33:03Speaker 6: area of Ohio because it's a short drive and you
- 33:06Speaker 6: can come down and see your alumni team play. So yeah,
- 33:10Speaker 6: I mean having a team And now that's what we
- 33:12Speaker 6: talked about with TBT as an organization. Here are the
- 33:16Speaker 6: markets where we think you should try to find teams
- 33:18Speaker 6: to bring to Charleston. And they were really great to
- 33:20Speaker 6: work with. And that's why you see this Ohio University
- 33:22Speaker 6: team in Charleston, because we sold them on the fact
- 33:25Speaker 6: that if you get them here, we can market to
- 33:28Speaker 6: their fans and their fan base and their alumni base
- 33:31Speaker 6: because of geographic proximity. So a lot of thought went
- 33:34Speaker 6: into that.
- 33:34Speaker 3: All right, before we let you go, let's kind of
- 33:36Speaker 3: recap what we've hit TBT, we've did regatta, but let's
- 33:40Speaker 3: think short term and let's think about the Great Race
- 33:43Speaker 3: and live on the levee tomorrow night. Ye six and
- 33:45Speaker 3: two acts six is one. I think seven thirty is
- 33:48Speaker 3: the other. Ye and again Jim charl will be on
- 33:51Speaker 3: the show tomorrow to talk about that with us. But
- 33:54Speaker 3: this Great Race, let's hit that, yeah, and the Great Race.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Their ceremony starts at four to twenty tomorrow afternoon, where
- 34:00Speaker 3: they'll have the Riverside Color Guard is going to present
- 34:03Speaker 3: the colors. We'll have seen the national Anthem by local
- 34:06Speaker 3: musician Brittany Maguire who's absolutely incredible vocalist, and then they'll
- 34:11Speaker 3: have some awards for their cars and then the car
- 34:15Speaker 3: show will be lined up along Canall Boulevard then tomorrow
- 34:19Speaker 3: afternoon with Levy starting at six. But all of the
- 34:21Speaker 3: Great Race stuff, this antique car rally, think Cannonball Run,
- 34:25Speaker 3: but all in antique cars, more antique cars. Less Terry
- 34:30Speaker 3: Bradshaw coming into Charleston from Frankfort, Kentucky and lining up
- 34:36Speaker 3: on the boulevard in this pop up car shows. It's
- 34:38Speaker 3: going to be a lot of fun and we hope
- 34:40Speaker 3: that folks come out. And again it's Thursday, not Friday.
- 34:43Speaker 3: This week for Live on the Levee. All right, I
- 34:45Speaker 3: think we got it all in. I tried maybe, Buddy,
- 34:48Speaker 3: I tried Jim Brady from the Charleston Convince of Vizer

- 41:10Speaker 3: six it is Face Value, the Tribute to Phil Collins.
- 41:12Speaker 3: At seven thirty the Charlie West All Stars. And I
- 41:15Speaker 3: mentioned this earlier and I gotta hand it to my
- 41:18Speaker 3: man Tony the Taylor, because he sent me a clip
- 41:22Speaker 3: this morning and he said, you got to listen to this,
- 41:25Speaker 3: and it was the Charlie West All Stars, of which
- 41:27Speaker 3: he is a big part of that particular group, and
- 41:30Speaker 3: they were doing, as I mentioned earlier, Whipping Post, which
- 41:33Speaker 3: is my favorite Alman Brothers song, and Shla was just
- 41:37Speaker 3: killing it on that song. I mean, that's the worth.
- 41:40Speaker 3: If they're going to do that song tomorrow night, it's
- 41:42Speaker 3: worth brave than the heat to come down for Live
- 41:44Speaker 3: on the Levee tomorrow night. So, and speaking to Tony
- 41:47Speaker 3: the Taylor, sponsor of the text line, I got to
- 41:50Speaker 3: give the big guy his props. Today is Tony's birthday.
- 41:54Speaker 3: Tony is sixty years old. Now he'll tell you parts
- 41:58Speaker 3: of his body is live, probably more like eighty five
- 42:02Speaker 3: or ninety. But just saying, if you are out and
- 42:05Speaker 3: about today and you have an opportunity to stop by
- 42:08Speaker 3: Virginia Street and seek your head in West Virginia's finance
- 42:12Speaker 3: Men store, Tony the Taylor tell mister Parrenzino, happy birthday,
- 42:15Speaker 3: but don't tell him it's from me because I don't
- 42:17Speaker 3: want him to think I actually like him. So happy birthday,
- 42:20Speaker 3: big guy. Let me see you got a text here, TIX,
- 42:23Speaker 3: says Dave Morrissey. What's board members voted on? We're talking
- 42:27Speaker 3: about the state school board. That's great. We want Public
- 42:30Speaker 3: Service Commission members and other appointed positions from the governor
- 42:34Speaker 3: voted on and to keep religion in the church, not
- 42:36Speaker 3: at our schools. Get a life people. Now this all
- 42:39Speaker 3: has to do with yesterday the governor at eleven o'clock
- 42:43Speaker 3: yesterday morning, had a press conference in Beckley at Tamarack
- 42:46Speaker 3: and he announced this lawsuit that's being filed by a
- 42:51Speaker 3: mother of a young girl, a young well I think
- 42:55Speaker 3: it was a young girl, young student regardless, in Raleigh
- 42:58Speaker 3: County that wants a religious exemption for her kid and
- 43:06Speaker 3: he is taking it to court in order to get it.
- 43:08Speaker 3: And again there's been this big battle over this, as
- 43:10Speaker 3: you well know. The Governor issued an executive order saying
- 43:14Speaker 3: such legislature didn't agree, and then there's been a battle
- 43:18Speaker 3: now between the state school Board and including state schools
- 43:23Speaker 3: from Pintendant Michelle Blatt, and also with Governor Morrissey. Now
- 43:27Speaker 3: Morrissey had that the Governor did had that press conference
- 43:29Speaker 3: there yesterday, and I'm sure you heard the audio. We
- 43:32Speaker 3: played a lot of it on the area yesterday and
- 43:35Speaker 3: he referred to unelected bureaucrats talking about the State Board
- 43:39Speaker 3: of Education. And we knew it was going to go
- 43:41Speaker 3: to Court. It was just a question of when and where,
- 43:43Speaker 3: and it's definitely on its way to court. And the
- 43:49Speaker 3: governor has taken issue his words with the fact that
- 43:52Speaker 3: the state school board these are not elected positions. Also
- 43:55Speaker 3: they're nine year positions, which is I mean, a tenure
- 43:59Speaker 3: on any board of nine years anything that's not a
- 44:03Speaker 3: Supreme court is pretty long, especially considering their unelected positions.
- 44:07Speaker 3: So this battle is going to continue. The boys to
- 44:09Speaker 3: talk Line are going to get into it, especially at
- 44:11Speaker 3: ten o'clockable. We'll go back over it during Metro News

- 47:07Speaker 3: Katie Coin wrote the story for West Virginia Watch the Delevgate.
- 47:11Speaker 3: A delegate's name is Ian Masters, and first thing I

- 48:13Speaker 3: tiny and weak. End quote Now for his part, Delegate
- 48:17Speaker 3: Masters is denying that I would urge you to go
- 48:21Speaker 3: over to uh West Virginia watch and read Katie Coin's
- 48:24Speaker 3: story about this. This this first broke well. I got
- 48:30Speaker 3: a little inside information that it was that there was
- 48:32Speaker 3: about to be some news coming. I didn't know what
- 48:34Speaker 3: it was. And late last night, as papal here is
- 48:36Speaker 3: getting ready to go to bed, the story, I got
- 48:40Speaker 3: the story. Uh, I didn't get I read Katie Coin's story,
- 48:43Speaker 3: I should say, and it's very problematic now in her
- 48:46Speaker 3: story uh, and you can go and read it for
- 48:49Speaker 3: yourself at West Virginia wats she u. She says that
- 48:53Speaker 3: Delegate Master says he doesn't even have an active Instagram account,
- 48:57Speaker 3: but apparently it's not hard to find out when if
- 49:01Speaker 3: you want to find out who's behind an actual social
- 49:05Speaker 3: media account, it's really not hard. And the evidence, I
- 49:08Speaker 3: will say, does not look good against Delegate Masters at
- 49:12Speaker 3: this point. Now, for their part, State Democratic Party issuing
- 49:16Speaker 3: a statement last night, State Democratic Party Cherry and delegate
- 49:18Speaker 3: from here in Kenon County, Mike Pushkin is asking, and
- 49:22Speaker 3: I don't have the exact quote in front of me,
- 49:23Speaker 3: but basically what he's saying to Governor Morrissey is to show,
- 49:27Speaker 3: and I think the term he used was moral character
- 49:29Speaker 3: and asking for Delegate Master's resignation. And again, he's a
- 49:33Speaker 3: Republican delegate out of Berkeley County. Now I can tell
- 49:37Speaker 3: you I'm going to get into the story a little
- 49:38Speaker 3: bit more on Metro News Midday later today. I would
- 49:42Speaker 3: love to have Delegate Masters on the show, but obviously,
- 49:46Speaker 3: with a situation like this, he's not saying a whole
- 49:48Speaker 3: lot at this point, and I understand that. But I'm
- 49:50Speaker 3: going to at least myself in the production crew, We're
- 49:53Speaker 3: going to actually reach out to Delegate Masters about being
- 49:56Speaker 3: on the show today to see what he has to
- 49:57Speaker 3: say about it. And we also so may have a
- 50:01Speaker 3: representative from West Virginia watch on the show to talk
- 50:03Speaker 3: about it. But I like to, you know, I like
- 50:05Speaker 3: to try to present both sides, and somebody's accused of something,
- 50:08Speaker 3: I like to give them an opportunity to defend themselves.
- 50:11Speaker 3: So it's kind of problematic if it is I mean,
- 50:14Speaker 3: in my eyes, in my mind, if it is true
- 50:17Speaker 3: that this was linked to him, and that's an if,
- 50:20Speaker 3: then that is very problematic language coming from a city
- 50:24Speaker 3: member of the West Virginia Legislature no matter what party
- 50:28Speaker 3: that they are in. So that's kind of where we
- 50:33Speaker 3: are on the story at this point.
- 50:35Speaker 2: TJ.
- 50:36Speaker 3: Meadows will be hosting talk Line today. Do I understand
- 50:39Speaker 3: your guys are going on the road tomorrow?
- 50:41Speaker 6: We are.
- 50:42Speaker 15: We'll be at West Virginia Wesleyan for the West Virginia
- 50:45Speaker 15: Scholar Program Award presentation tomorrow. Will name that West Virginia Scholar.
- 50:50Speaker 15: They'll get a full ride here is she. We'll get
- 50:53Speaker 15: a full ride to West Virginia Wesleyan. That's room, board, tuition,
- 50:56Speaker 15: the whole nine. So it's a big celebration.
- 50:59Speaker 3: Tomorrow.
- 50:59Speaker 15: We do talk Line live from ten to noon and
- 51:02Speaker 15: then we'll gather, have some lunch and go forward with
- 51:06Speaker 15: the awards presentation.
- 51:07Speaker 3: So it's a big deal.
- 51:08Speaker 15: Think about it. Private institution, great institution like West Virginia
- 51:13Speaker 15: wesley and getting a full ride, all expenses paid, no
- 51:16Speaker 15: college debt hanging over your head.
- 51:17Speaker 3: That's a big deal. Indeed it is, and you guys
- 51:20Speaker 3: will be there tomorrow. That's that's always an interesting show
- 51:23Speaker 3: to listen to. You know, Hobby's done it in the
- 51:25Speaker 3: past and when you talk to those students and that
- 51:28Speaker 3: again one is going to get a full ride. I'll
- 51:30Speaker 3: say this, And you're a parent, I'm not. There's a
- 51:32Speaker 3: whole lot of there's going to be a happy mommy
- 51:34Speaker 3: and daddy there too. They're going to be more excited
- 51:38Speaker 3: than the kids are. Probably it's expensive, that's that's for sure.
- 51:42Speaker 15: So to be able to see your child do that,
- 51:43Speaker 15: and to be able to if you have saved any money,
- 51:46Speaker 15: to be able to use that for other it's going
- 51:47Speaker 15: to feel pretty good.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Right. Maybe give it to the re all right, quick
- 51:49Speaker 3: text here, because I'd like to get all the texts
- 51:51Speaker 3: and text says guessing the people that are outraged my
- 51:53Speaker 3: master's comments are the very same who supported the free
- 51:56Speaker 3: Palestine nuts and the openly proud socialists Anti just elected
- 52:01Speaker 3: in New York City. Well he was the person in
- 52:03Speaker 3: New York City was elected that this was their primary
- 52:06Speaker 3: and so at New York City, writes Danny Jones, and
- 52:09Speaker 3: I talked about this week. It's going to be interesting
- 52:11Speaker 3: because you got the city mayor Eric Adams, who is
- 52:14Speaker 3: running I guess as an independent now in the fun
- 52:18Speaker 3: you yeah, maybe Cuomo, who got beat yesterday, says he
- 52:21Speaker 3: is probably going to run in the fall as a
- 52:23Speaker 3: riot in or something. Anyway, what's on the show today,
- 52:25Speaker 3: I may move up there and get my name on
- 52:26Speaker 3: the battle why not?
- 52:27Speaker 11: Why not?
- 52:28Speaker 2: So?
- 52:28Speaker 3: Coming up a ten of six Roger Hanshaw.
- 52:30Speaker 15: We will ask him about Delegate Masters and see if
- 52:33Speaker 15: he has an opinion for him yet or what steps
- 52:35Speaker 15: he will or won't take.
- 52:36Speaker 6: We'll get into that.
- 52:38Speaker 15: Also, the US Department of Energy Secretary on the show today.
- 52:42Speaker 15: We did a pre recorded interview with him. And let
- 52:44Speaker 15: me tell you what you want to listen to that
- 52:45Speaker 15: you don't want to miss it?
- 52:46Speaker 3: All right, we won't. I'll see it the later day.
- 52:48Speaker 3: I'll meet your news midday. Till then, have fun and love.
- 52:50Speaker 2: Somebody find w c s A MNT six point five FM,
- 53:05Speaker 2: Charleston at one oh four point five Cross Lanes, l
