Speaker 1: Steve, good morning to you.
• 1:03
  Speaker 2: Good morning.
• 1:03
  Speaker 2: It's something's in Texas.
• 1:05
  Speaker 1: Well, it's hot.
• 1:06
  Speaker 1: It's real.
• 1:07
  Speaker 1: Hot here.
• 1:08
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 1:09
Speaker 1: How are things hot in California?
• 1:11
Speaker 2: It's seventy two degrees and the surface up.
• 1:16
  Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
• 1:17
Speaker 1: Steve, I met you many years ago when the Texas AutoRiders Association was taking a tour, a preview of the Dallas Auto Show, and you had one of your legendary cars there.
• 1:28
Speaker 1: And it was a pleasure to talk to you and you're most gracious to all of us because we bombarded you with all these stupid questions, but You answered them like the champ that you are.
• 1:39
Speaker 1: We appreciate that, and it's it's great to be with you this morning.
• 1:43
Speaker 1: How how are things with the Celine automotive?
• 1:47
Speaker 2: Well, this actually is a pretty exciting year for us.
• 1:50
Speaker 2: It's our fortieth anniversary.
• 1:53
Speaker 2: If you can believe that is forty years since we introduced the Celine Mustang to the automotive world, and it's little known fact is that the with the exception of the Ford Mustang itself, and the Chevrolet Corvette, the Salain Mustang is the longest continuing nameplate in North America that's been sold.
• 2:21
  Speaker 1: Wow.
• 2:21
  Speaker 1: Wow.
• 2:22
Speaker 1: That is very impressive.
• 2:23
Speaker 1: You know, I personally, Steve, I I have to tell you, I kinda put you up there in the upper upper reaches, if you will, of celebrity auto builders.
• 2:33
Speaker 1: Right up there with Carol Shelby, I I think the world of your work and your racing ability and all of the things that you've done.
• 2:42
Speaker 2: And and I certainly appreciate that.
• 2:45
Speaker 2: It actually this marks our my fiftieth year of racing in the respect that back in ninth seventy three, I entered and won my first race.
• 2:57
Speaker 2: And just this past weekend, I won my first race in our new s one supercar, which actually I think puts us in kinda rare company here on designing your own car with Bruce McLaren, Dan Gurney, and even Jim Hall.
• 3:19
Speaker 2: In winning winning a race in the in the car.
• 3:23
Speaker 2: But I'm not sure if anyone's actually wanted in their production version.
• 3:28
Speaker 2: So it certainly was exciting to win last weekend.
• 3:32
Speaker 2: So obviously, I'm still racing and having fun and building the the next generation of super cars.
• 3:38
Speaker 1: Well, congratulations, first of all, because I yeah.
• 3:41
Speaker 1: That's something to be said because you and I are pretty much close to the same age and certainly respect you for all of that.
• 3:49
Speaker 1: Tell me about the car that you raised.
• 3:52
Speaker 2: Well, it's we introduced it a few years ago before right as the coronavirus was breaking out.
• 4:00
Speaker 2: And we had to put it on pause, but we're building a new ground up Celine s one supercar.
• 4:07
Speaker 2: Is a little bit different than our o o conquering Solina s seven that we introduced twenty five years ago, but it is still a supercar.
• 4:20
  Speaker 2: It's a all aluminum chassis.
• 4:22
  Speaker 2: It's a carbon fiber body.
• 4:24
Speaker 2: It's our own design engine.
• 4:26
Speaker 2: It's a four cylinder with our own casting.
• 4:31
Speaker 2: It's a very unique casting that we're doing on a single turbo.
• 4:35
Speaker 2: And it's it it produces four hundred and fifty horsepower, but the car only weighs twenty six hundred pounds.
• 4:43
  Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
• 4:43
Speaker 2: Our weight ratio puts us into a a supercar category, and all of this, we're looking at bringing the retail value of this car for about a hundred and twenty five thousand.
• 4:57
  Speaker 3: I'm in.
• 4:58
  Speaker 3: We're in.
• 4:58
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 4:59
  Speaker 3: If if you
• 5:00
Speaker 4: need to steal for that kinda performance.
• 5:01
  Speaker 1: Listen.
• 5:02
Speaker 1: And we were we'll be the first to line up to test drive that for you and do a review for you if you don't mind.
• 5:10
Speaker 2: You you will like it.
• 5:11
Speaker 2: And then we've already proven it over the last several years on the racetrack because we have won against all makes, whether there's Ferrari, Porsche, Lamburgaining McLaren or whatever.
• 5:22
Speaker 2: And then this is past weekend, I won up in Seattle at that race, and So it's a pretty exciting car and we're very excited to bring it to market here in the real near future.
• 5:35
Speaker 1: Well, and I assume that you're building it out there where you live in Inglewood?
• 5:39
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 5:40
Speaker 2: We're actually our offices are we have four acres in Southern California.
• 5:48
Speaker 2: It's actually in Corona.
• 5:50
Speaker 2: A joke about the fact that we started the coronavirus there.
• 5:54
Speaker 2: Aside from that, yes, we are in the process of putting together the production aspect of the car altogether.
• 6:06
Speaker 4: How about I imagine with your reputation, you've got a waiting list already for the first run of the production, I would assume.
• 6:13
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 6:13
Speaker 2: It's been unfortunately, like I said, because of the coronavirus, it's been a little bit longer period of time.
• 6:21
Speaker 2: But we do have a pretty good waiting list, and we're really anxious, I think, to get it, and people are really anxious to get us into production with it?
• 6:31
Speaker 1: Well, as I don't even know what to ask about about the car.
• 6:35
Speaker 1: Is it does it have an automatic transmission?
• 6:37
Speaker 1: Does it have a a manual transmission?
• 6:40
Speaker 1: Tell me a little
• 6:41
  Speaker 2: bit more.
• 6:41
  Speaker 2: It it is.
• 6:43
Speaker 2: We're starting with this is a driver's car.
• 6:46
Speaker 2: We we have built it to to where people that really want to drive enjoy driving a lot of fun.
• 6:52
Speaker 2: So we're actually starting with a six speed manual and
• 6:57
  Speaker 4: Thank you.
• 6:58
Speaker 2: Again, we have very unique transmission, but it's it's a six feet manual as very much of a driver's car.
• 7:04
Speaker 2: However, we are making it to where you can drive it on a daily basis.
• 7:09
Speaker 2: I can tell you that the air conditioning works really well in it.
• 7:12
Speaker 2: It is easy to shift you can be stuck in traffic on the freeway and be very comfortable.
• 7:19
Speaker 2: And we have similar with the that everyone's gone to is your flat screen that really operates a lot of the functions and you can listen to a good sound system and go through all of the the new electronic that is almost every every car today now has.
• 7:38
Speaker 4: And you race it in the I I think it's a GT four category.
• 7:43
  Speaker 4: Is that correct?
• 7:44
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 7:45
  Speaker 4: Yes.
• 7:45
Speaker 4: So your your competitors are pretty high level cars.
• 7:48
Speaker 4: And glad to hear of your success.
• 7:50
Speaker 4: Is the production one going to be relatively similar as far as content and performance?
• 8:00
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 8:00
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 8:00
Speaker 2: Well, if the the one thing that I've always done, that's of maybe a little unusual and it started back with the Celine versions of the Mustang is we've used production vehicles and actually to go professional racing with them.
• 8:15
Speaker 2: And we're when we do that, so it improves the breed, so to speak.
• 8:20
Speaker 2: And it's it's been very well.
• 8:22
Speaker 2: We started, you know, in the eighties with the Celine Mustang where we won our championships.
• 8:29
Speaker 2: I even did it with our race trucks.
• 8:31
Speaker 2: And and those type of of vehicles.
• 8:35
Speaker 2: And then when we introduced at the two thousand, when we introduced the Seline s seven Street car, we weren't racing with that.
• 8:43
Speaker 2: So almost the race car and the production car are almost identical in every single way.
• 8:49
  Speaker 4: Wow.
• 8:50
  Speaker 4: Are you still
• 8:52
Speaker 1: are you still modifying mustangs?
• 8:54
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 8:55
Speaker 2: We we have we're we're continuing we earlier this year, we showed our fortieth anniversary Mustang, which was We do ten special edition mustangs every five years.
• 9:15
Speaker 2: And this one was a SpeedLab yellow with a convertible with a very unique tonneau cover that we've designed for that gives it a very upscale and a unique appearance in the the functionality of that.
• 9:31
Speaker 2: And then we already we have teased the world on showing the latest generation of the new Mustang that Ford is producing here that'll be out in hopefully sometime later this month.
• 9:47
Speaker 2: But at least during the summer, we will have the next generation of Celine Mustang that we're producing as well.
• 9:54
Speaker 3: So so how does that work?
• 9:55
Speaker 3: Does Ford send you the Mustang's to be altered?
• 10:00
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 10:00
Speaker 2: We have we have our own code system since the beginning of time.
• 10:06
Speaker 2: Back in nineteen eighty four in the Ford system.
• 10:10
Speaker 2: And the Ford dealer will order the vehicle and then put in our code system.
• 10:17
Speaker 2: The cars get built in Detroit, and then they're sent directly to us in Southern California where we would then revamp them in three different flavors.
• 10:28
Speaker 2: We have good, better, best.
• 10:31
Speaker 2: What we call a white label, yellow label and black label.
• 10:35
Speaker 2: And then we then will ship it in close carrier to the ordering four dealer around the country operating for sale to the general public.
• 10:45
Speaker 2: And the versions that we do is the white label, they all get different aerodynamics, different suspension, different interiors, and different power trains.
• 10:56
Speaker 2: And the white label has started at five hundred horsepower.
• 11:02
Speaker 2: And I know Ford has the new dark horse coming out, but we've actually had a little over five hundred here for the last six or seven years as standard.
• 11:15
Speaker 2: And so the new version will even be higher than five hundred as our base vehicle.
• 11:20
Speaker 2: And they the pricing and then from five hundred, we go to seven hundred and fifty as a supercharged version.
• 11:27
Speaker 2: And then our top of the line black label is over eight hundred horsepower.
• 11:32
  Speaker 4: Wow.
• 11:33
Speaker 2: And the only thing that we retain from Ford on that literally is the doors and the quarter panel.
• 11:40
Speaker 2: Everything else and the window glass stays the same, but everything else has been changed on it, that we've done extensive wind tunnel testing, racing, development, CFD, and everything that we engineer, we do with the purpose to actually improve the overall performance of the vehicle.
• 12:01
Speaker 4: So even on this latest generation of vehicles because I know that one of the the histories of the Celine cars is is, generally, there's a a number associated with that car.
• 12:12
Speaker 4: Are they all going to be numbered as well?
• 12:15
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 12:16
Speaker 2: We have we've actually produced over the years.
• 12:19
Speaker 2: We've produced pretty close to thirty thousand
• 12:22
  Speaker 1: --
• 12:22
  Speaker 2: Wow.
• 12:23
  Speaker 1: --
• 12:23
  Speaker 2: Celine Mustang.
• 12:25
Speaker 2: Is is kind of amazing what's actually happened here in the in the world of bring a trailer or the auction houses is that just last month, we had one of our nineteen eighty five Celine Mustang, a regular Celine thing that retailed at the time, I think, between fifteen thousand and seventeen thousand, went through the auction house at two hundred and fifty thousand dollars
• 12:55
  Speaker 1: --
• 12:55
  Speaker 4: Holy cow.
• 12:56
  Speaker 1: --
• 12:56
Speaker 2: and and and all of them have been numbered.
• 13:00
Speaker 2: We we never in the inter compartment, in the interior, and also the front bumper, left hand side, driver side, there'll be a number on this.
• 13:11
Speaker 2: And so that way, you know what's authentic Sling which is what's helped, I think, keep up the resale value.
• 13:21
Speaker 2: And we'll put a caveat, though, is that we've never done a number six.
• 13:26
Speaker 2: And the reason why is when I started the company, my wife was doing a lot of the bookkeeping.
• 13:33
Speaker 2: And as we were building the volume for the first year, we she was numbering it, and she's numbered it one, two, three, four, five, seven, eight, nine.
• 13:44
Speaker 2: We didn't we didn't discover until we were, like, two hundred three hundred cars in into it that we somehow miss and skip numbers in.
• 13:54
Speaker 2: So we we we haven't I said, you know what?
• 14:00
Speaker 2: We'll just never build
• 14:01
  Speaker 4: a number six.
• 14:02
Speaker 4: We build sixty six, six, six, six, six, six, six, six, in the
• 14:08
Speaker 2: past, but never a number six.
• 14:09
  Speaker 4: Oh, that's cool.
• 14:10
Speaker 4: And and though you're widely known as a Mustang guy.
• 14:16
Speaker 4: You've dallied off into some other other brands as well as some other Ford vehicles.
• 14:23
  Speaker 4: I know you've done you've done some of the Bronco's.
• 14:25
Speaker 4: Now are you doing the current the new generation Bronco as well?
• 14:29
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 14:30
Speaker 2: We we are in development of it.
• 14:31
Speaker 2: We haven't we haven't shown shown that yet, but I think we'll have two versions of that.
• 14:38
Speaker 2: We also are doing two versions of the truck.
• 14:42
Speaker 2: We have what we call a a sport truck and a off road version.
• 14:47
Speaker 2: A sport truck has complete different suspension, different aerodynamics.
• 14:52
Speaker 2: It we had a supercharger to it to get you up to seven hundred horsepower and it really is a very dramatic.
• 15:00
Speaker 2: And then opposite, we offer a we raise the truck up four or six inches depending on the the model and put thirty five, thirty seven inch tires on it for more of your off road racing.
• 15:18
Speaker 2: They all get different body treatment and again different interior.
• 15:23
Speaker 2: And one of the things that, as you mentioned, that we've done a lot of things in the past and continue to do that.
• 15:32
Speaker 2: A lot of people don't know that after we did our own supercar, the s seven, is that we then had the opportunity.
• 15:43
Speaker 2: Ford came to me, and we did all of the final design work the certification and the complete build and assembly and shipping of the four g team.
• 15:55
Speaker 2: The original the two thousand and five, two thousand and six was all built by a facility that I put together in the Detroit area.
• 16:04
Speaker 2: And we did that as private label and shipped that to all of the four dealers around the country.
• 16:12
Speaker 2: And then after that program, I picked up in at the same facility, and we did the subassembly in the build for the Dodge Viper.
• 16:21
Speaker 2: So from my standpoint, any supercar that's been built in America has actually been built built by us.
• 16:28
Speaker 2: Now we can say that the new Ford Supercar is certainly a great car and nothing to be talk down on that.
• 16:37
Speaker 2: However, it's actually built in Canada.
• 16:39
Speaker 2: So therefore, I think that we really are a little bit more American oriented.
• 16:45
  Speaker 1: We love it.
• 16:45
Speaker 1: And I also see that that Celine is building their version of a Tesla
• 16:53
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 16:54
Speaker 2: Back in we we recognize and the the one thing that, I guess, maybe is a little bit different about us is that we have I always look a little bit more towards the future.
• 17:07
Speaker 2: And in doing that back in two thousand and thirteen and two thousand and fourteen, we were recognizing that electric vehicles are really coming to stay.
• 17:20
Speaker 2: And we then started working on the Tesla and doing very similar, a different body.
• 17:28
Speaker 2: But again, all built from a aerodynamic efficiency, from what we do on the body, a different suspension.
• 17:35
Speaker 2: We put carbon brakes on it, completely change the interior to make it much more of a driver's car.
• 17:42
Speaker 2: And even initially back there, the we we made it go the fast in the respect that we change the final drive ratio.
• 17:53
Speaker 2: So as people know, electric cars accelerate, because of the torque and the all wheel driving accelerate very fast, but we made it a little bit faster by putting a different gear ratio in it, so you would accelerate that much quicker.
• 18:09
Speaker 2: And then we can actually add sound to it by the way that we cut the gears, it'll put a little bit of unwind to it.
• 18:18
Speaker 2: So people that wanna have some sound with their electric car, and it sounds like a little mini Formula One cars in person.
• 18:26
Speaker 2: You can have fun doing that as well.
• 18:29
  Speaker 1: Wow.
• 18:30
  Speaker 1: Absolutely brilliant.
• 18:31
Speaker 1: Steve, it's a it's a great to talk to you and to have you on the show today.
• 18:36
  Speaker 1: It's Celine s a l e e n dot com.
• 18:40
Speaker 1: And I know that our viewers and our listeners on all of our different platforms really have enjoyed the interview with you today, and we sure appreciate you taking the time with us and explaining what all Celine is up to these days.
• 18:54
Speaker 1: And we wish you the best of luck.
• 18:56
Speaker 1: And don't forget your whittier high school reunion coming up.
• 19:02
  Speaker 2: That is yeah.
• 19:03
  Speaker 2: That is true.
• 19:04
Speaker 2: The the alumni, I I was inducted in their hall of fame a few years ago and and I joined Richard Nixon back as he went to a deer high as well.
• 19:20
Speaker 2: The other thing because you guys are in Texas.
• 19:22
Speaker 2: We actually have our parts division.
• 19:25
Speaker 2: It's in Austin, Texas that my daughter Mollie runs.
• 19:29
Speaker 2: So we actually we're actually in Texas quite a bit now these days, mostly in the Austin area.
• 19:36
Speaker 2: But So if you get a chance or some of your listeners are local on that, we certainly invite them to come over.
• 19:43
  Speaker 2: Has she
• 19:44
Speaker 1: has she since you a keep Austin weird t shirt.
• 19:47
  Speaker 1: That's what I wanna know.
• 19:49
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 19:50
  Speaker 2: Alright.
• 19:53
Speaker 1: Steve, again, thank you so much.
• 19:54
Speaker 1: We appreciate you, sir.
• 19:56
  Speaker 2: Well, thank you.
• 19:57
Speaker 2: Thanks for having me on.
• 19:58
Speaker 2: It was great talking to you guys.
• 19:59
  Speaker 1: You too.
• 20:00
  Speaker 2: Thank you.
• 20:01
Speaker 4: What a great history.
• 20:02
  Speaker 3: Wow.
• 20:02
Speaker 4: You know, what a great history?
• 20:03
Speaker 4: I learned listening to him.
• 20:05
Speaker 4: I didn't realize his involvement in the two thousand generation Ford GT, which is definitely an investment grade vehicle.
• 20:14
Speaker 4: You know, you look at some of those now that are going through auction at, you know, quarter million, half a million dollars each.
• 20:21
Speaker 4: And I I didn't realize his involvement in the FICO bill that I don't.
• 20:27
Speaker 5: I was press he's gone into the super cars and he's got all
• 20:29
Speaker 6: these things going on, but he's still tied into the mustangs.
• 20:32
Speaker 6: All the things he started with, and he knew all the things.
• 20:35
Speaker 1: You see the smile on my face?
• 20:36
Speaker 1: I wanna be here.
• 20:37
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 20:38
  Speaker 1: That's what I we
• 20:39
Speaker 3: need to remote from one of his facilities.
• 20:41
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 20:41
Speaker 1: I mean, grab a little Hello, Austin.
• 20:43
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 20:43
  Speaker 1: I'm just saying.
• 20:44
  Speaker 3: Contact Molly.
• 20:46
Speaker 1: And will time race card is sponsored by Texas nostalgia modified production, and Conrad always has that force.
• 20:53
  Speaker 4: Yep.
• 20:54
Speaker 4: So NHRA next weekend is the mile high nationals in Bandimere.
• 20:59
  Speaker 1: The last one.
• 21:00
Speaker 4: Is that the that's the final because they're closing Bandimere by you and you.
• 21:03
Speaker 4: Are you in the mile high club down?
• 21:05
Speaker 1: I am in the mile high club.
• 21:06
Speaker 4: Because you're not aware we're not doing top fuel.
• 21:08
Speaker 1: Well, yes, that mile high club, not other ones that some people may be thinking of that's not
• 21:14
Speaker 4: and then July twenty first, they're in Seattle, July twenty eighth, they're in Sonoma, and then they take so that's three weeks.
• 21:21
Speaker 4: Straight on the western swing, pretty arduous race schedule.
• 21:27
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 21:27
Speaker 4: And then August eleventh, they're gonna be in Kansas.
• 21:30
Speaker 4: Now NASCAR, you said to an Atlanta to that tonight to to speak
• 21:34
  Speaker 3: on Yeah.
• 21:35
Speaker 4: They're in New Hampshire next weekend in Pocono the weekend after
