- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:12What is this, a homicide or a bad bee movie?
- 0:16Welcome to What's your Least Favorite Scary Movie?
- 0:18The podcast where we talk about the good, the bad, the ugly and
- 0:21the absurd, and all of our favorite and least favorite
- 0:23scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:25movie rightfully has its fan base.
- 0:27Even if we don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:30My name is Jesse. And welcome to Prom Month part
- 0:33three. Yes, episode 3, because this is
- 0:36the third one and it's also the third episode of Prom Month.
- 0:39Yeah, we got all here to that. Yeah.
- 0:41And we have a fun one. I think this week for you guys,
- 0:45we are talking Night of the Creeps.
- 0:48But before we get into the nitty gritty, the good stuff, we have
- 0:54announcements. Actually we do oh OK this Sunday
- 0:58and I understand that it's confusing from our schedule
- 1:00because I I oopsied. Oh yeah, yeah, this the calendar
- 1:04is a little. Bit the 18th is to be or not to
- 1:07be, so that's happening. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10It's you know it, it's clear, but it's also not clear if you
- 1:13look at the schedule that we posted.
- 1:15Yeah, it was out of order and I everything looked so good and it
- 1:19was just we, we pivoted, we worked with it.
- 1:22It's. Fine, it's good.
- 1:23But now you know. You've heard it on here.
- 1:24Now it's you. It's Sunday.
- 1:26It will be Jesse's pick. Yeah.
- 1:29Look at everybody. Well, you know it won't be
- 1:32detention. That's true, I still have no
- 1:34memory. Of having watched that movie
- 1:36before but. OK, well I don't have polls
- 1:40because I forgot to do a poll yesterday.
- 1:42I haven't gave you a poll. Idea you did, Yeah.
- 1:44And I just forgot to do it. We got we got caught up and we
- 1:49had a very busy yesterday and then to cap it all off, we
- 1:53watched Anaconda. And then if I'm going to do
- 1:56that, I'm not going to remember anything else.
- 1:58Yeah, that's super. Seated everything.
- 2:01I think I set you up for the exact right mindset to go into
- 2:03that movie with. You did, but it didn't really
- 2:06help with getting polls done. So that's just not a thing that
- 2:10happened this week. I'm sorry everybody, but that's
- 2:13OK, guys. We got movie.
- 2:16We got movie to talk. About movie.
- 2:18We got. We're going to talk about a
- 2:19movie on this Movie Discussion podcast.
- 2:21Yeah, it's brave. It's never been done before, but
- 2:25I thought we would go out on a leap today.
- 2:27OK. Yeah.
- 2:28OK. So go out on a leap.
- 2:29Yeah. Night on, Night on the creeps.
- 2:32Night on the creeps. We're talking Night of the
- 2:34Creeps. OK so this movie released August
- 2:3822nd 1986. We watched it on our Blu-ray and
- 2:43if you want to watch it you might have to do the same unless
- 2:46you feel comfortable renting because it's not streaming
- 2:49anywhere right now. But you can rent it on Apple,
- 2:52YouTube, Amazon or Fandango Home for 399.
- 2:55This seems like one of the weird ones that we would find in the
- 2:58DVD section at Northside Library.
- 3:00Yeah, see. They have a They have an odd
- 3:03selection of movies. Yeah, they in a good way.
- 3:06And you'll probably find this one on like some kind of bin at
- 3:08Walmart or something like I got us the oldest Blu-ray that was
- 3:12made, which was the Sony 1 from 2009.
- 3:16It's the same print as the one that scream factory did.
- 3:19So don't feel bad if you cheap out on this one because you're
- 3:22getting pretty much the same product and.
- 3:23It's it's a decent product too, yeah.
- 3:25It is only like $9. So, you know, if you want to do
- 3:28that, that's that's an option out there.
- 3:29All right. Written by Fred Decker, directed
- 3:32by Fred Decker, music by Barry Dvorisen and special effects
- 3:35makeup by David B Miller. Who his own for Nightmare on Elm
- 3:40Street, and he had a little help from a Mr. Burger, Howard Burger
- 3:47and a Mr. Kurtzman. The the B and the K Yeah, in K&B
- 3:53effects. I know it's not his fault and
- 3:56it's his name, but every time I hear a burger my brain just like
- 3:59pictures. Burgie.
- 4:02I think it was a Hamburglar. I'm sure he's happy to hear
- 4:06about this. It's not like this is a body of
- 4:07work that. We think of.
- 4:08It's just too. Cool.
- 4:10Different burger related things, all right.
- 4:13Starring Jason Lively as Chris, Steve Marshall as JC, Jill
- 4:18Whitlow as Cindy and Tom Atkins as Ray Cameron.
- 4:21And how? Yep, so grab your 6 packs
- 4:24people, because it's. Teenagers, am I right?
- 4:27Yeah. Spanky, am I right?
- 4:31All right, time for your favorite game on the show.
- 4:33Budget or budgeted? OK, by the way, if you if you
- 4:41hear a little Jingle and I made us some iced coffee before we
- 4:43started recording, so. If you hear a little Groovin,
- 4:45it's because we relocated our record player and left on Elton
- 4:50John's greatest hits volume to for the pets.
- 4:52We did. I tried to account for that for
- 4:53the noise reduction though. So if you are hearing it, I
- 4:55failed. Yeah, yeah.
- 4:57We'll find out soon enough. OK, so I feel like Tom Atkins do
- 5:04come cheap. Do he?
- 5:07He do do he, he do he's. A He's a commodity in this type
- 5:11of movie. I get that.
- 5:13He's like, I know my worth for what I am worth.
- 5:18I I don't know how you mean by that.
- 5:23That's how he negotiates. He gets like he wraps them up in
- 5:26his hub. I do think that he's done enough
- 5:29low budget stuff though. Like I just, I think it's
- 5:32possible that this is a bug, Ted.
- 5:34That's how I feel about it. Also the fact that, you know, we
- 5:38can see a little puppetry going on at times with.
- 5:42Tom Atkins. Yeah, yeah, the Tom Atkins
- 5:45puppet. Honestly some of the best puppet
- 5:47work I've ever. Seen the guy, I'm like on a
- 5:48Marion. Type thing here.
- 5:50OK. Yeah.
- 5:51And. So that's where Backstreet Boys
- 5:52got the OR N St. got the Bye, bye bye oh.
- 5:55My God. Yeah.
- 5:57Inspired by Tom Atkins. Yeah.
- 5:58Today you know, OK. So I'm going, but I'm going, OK.
- 6:02Yeah, you're right. It's bucked head, but
- 6:04surprisingly more budget than I would have guessed.
- 6:06It's 5 million, OK, which is pretty solid for a little B
- 6:10movie like this, right? That's what.
- 6:11I'm saying I feel like Tom Atkins will do a $5,000,000
- 6:15movie, you know what I mean? Yeah.
- 6:16Yeah. All right.
- 6:17And oh, OK. It's not good here from the rest
- 6:21of this. It's opening box office.
- 6:23You're in 20,000. Oh, no.
- 6:25Overall worldwide gross 5, 191,000.
- 6:28So like 10%? Yeah, yeah, it did not perform
- 6:31well, but IMDb is pretty solid. It's a 6.7.
- 6:35OK, good. That's a really high score for
- 6:38that. OK, so I have three other movies
- 6:41that released in 1986 and the theme that I chose for these
- 6:45movies are they're telling you the the time of day.
- 6:48OK, that's a fun theme. I know you were worried cuz
- 6:51we've been living in 1986 for a while and you're like, how am I
- 6:55gonna keep this fresh? Well, you know, and we're in
- 6:57Night of the Creeps here, So what other?
- 6:59Night time. What other times of day exist,
- 7:01Travis? In horror movies, yeah, let's
- 7:03figure out. So the first one is You will Die
- 7:05at Midnight is a movie that released May 3rd 1986.
- 7:12Don't have budget the gross but IMDb 5.6.
- 7:16OK, can I tell you a funny story real quick?
- 7:19Sure. So I was trying to put in our
- 7:21next Monster Lodge meeting in my calendar.
- 7:24That's how I am as a person. And I was like, mirror twin
- 7:29closes at midnight. I'll put it from three to
- 7:31midnight. And my calendar said absolutely
- 7:35the fuck you will not midnight on this day is yes.
- 7:40It was like you cannot have an ending time earlier than your
- 7:43start time. And I was like, then I tried to
- 7:45do 1159 and it freaked out because I have military time on
- 7:49my phone and it was like 1159 is also before 3:00 PM.
- 7:54So that's your. Phone was through with you
- 7:57already. It's like God damn it.
- 7:58So I won't die at midnight. We'll see about that.
- 8:03Like, you're not going to be there for that.
- 8:04You best not be planning for that one.
- 8:07OK? Next movie night, Ripper.
- 8:11OK, I don't have a release date for this.
- 8:13Like it's like all question marks.
- 8:15It may have released in 1986. That's why one source told me.
- 8:19I don't have any financials for it either, but it's a 4.309 DB.
- 8:24OK, yeah. And the final one, it's scream
- 8:28time. OK.
- 8:29Yeah. So that's more of like kind of,
- 8:32you know, a philosophical time of day.
- 8:35Yeah, it's like it's like a personal like everybody has
- 8:38their screen time. Yeah, day, yeah.
- 8:41So it's whatever suits you. OK.
- 8:43So screen time also don't have release information may have
- 8:46released in 1986. I'm not 100% sure about that
- 8:48because I had various other years.
- 8:49Are these actual real movies or did you just make things out?
- 8:52They are all movies that are on the 1986 Wikipedia page for
- 8:56horror movies. But then I look at other sources
- 8:58for us, like, we don't fucking know.
- 9:00I think it's just people like guessing the year that it might
- 9:02have released. This is the year that I feel
- 9:04like it released. It looks like.
- 9:05A nice in my heart movie. I mean, that was a that was a
- 9:08year of like time movies. So like, you know, there we go.
- 9:11It probably was 1986 and it has an IMDb of 4.9.
- 9:16So yeah. OK, that's where we at.
- 9:19OK, I have tag lines. So the main tag line, the good
- 9:24news is your dates are here. The bad news is they're dead.
- 9:29Honestly, if you're going to use a quote from the movie as a
- 9:33tagline, that's a good, that's a good one.
- 9:35It's. Either that one or this one
- 9:36right here. Both of them good thrill me.
- 9:40That one is a little less that one actually sounds, isn't
- 9:43there? Isn't there an actual horror
- 9:45movie called Thrill Me? There probably is, Yeah, if I
- 9:49had to guess. Yeah.
- 9:51OK, the next one, if you scream, you're dead.
- 9:56Actually, yeah. Maybe, I don't know, some people
- 9:58scream in this movie and they survive.
- 10:00Yeah. But then they get the yeah yeah
- 10:01all. Right.
- 10:04And the final one. Oh no, just two more.
- 10:06It'll be the night of your life. Death.
- 10:09It's like 3. It's like an ellipsis.
- 10:13Like da da da death that. One doesn't really make sense
- 10:16to. I wish like instead of an
- 10:20ellipsis, it is a, uh, death. Uh, death and the final one they
- 10:25don't bother to knock. That's patently untrue.
- 10:31Yeah, you're right. We witnessed multiple zombies
- 10:33knocking they. Do not like these like zombies
- 10:36have, surprisingly. I call malarkey on that tagline.
- 10:39They did. That's one of those ones where
- 10:41they didn't even watch the movie.
- 10:42These are knocking zombies right here.
- 10:43Yeah, these are very polite zombies.
- 10:46OK, so let's do some fun facts. I was about it.
- 10:49All right, so the way that this movie began, we had Mr. Fred
- 10:54Decker. He is living in what he
- 10:57described as a little frat house that they made of their own of a
- 11:01bunch of future directors and writers in Hollywood at UCLA.
- 11:05He's got Shane Black, the guy that did the Lethal Weapon
- 11:08movies. He was in Predator as the nerdy
- 11:10dude. OK, yeah, there's a couple of
- 11:14other people. The guy that did Charlie's
- 11:15Angels, the guy that did fuck shit.
- 11:20I'd love that one. It's a God.
- 11:24It's that one Chitty Chitty Death thing.
- 11:26I think it's what it is. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
- 11:30That's it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:31There we go. Chitty Chitty Death thing is a
- 11:33pretty cool movie. I'd.
- 11:35Watch it. Yeah, I'm not embarrassed by
- 11:38that. I think I punched up that tile.
- 11:42Yeah. Anyways, so he was there and
- 11:44they're all making movies together.
- 11:45And there was one night where he couldn't fall asleep.
- 11:48And all of a sudden, the line Thrill me came to his mind.
- 11:52He's like, OK, thrill me. That's a really cool line.
- 11:54Where do I go from there? So he decided to take these two
- 11:59characters that he was using for a short film that he had, which
- 12:03would end up being Chris and Jaycee.
- 12:06And he's like, OK, so I've got the two nerdy kids and then I've
- 12:10got like the person that would say thrill me.
- 12:13So he like envisioned like a like a grizzly cop type dude,
- 12:16which would eventually become Tom Atkins.
- 12:18It's like, all right, well then we got to have like the pretty
- 12:20girl. So Cindy would be there.
- 12:22And then from there he just decided to take those 3
- 12:25components and then unleash all of the B horror movie knowledge
- 12:29that he had and just like try and make a movie out of that
- 12:32formula right there. He wrote it in two weeks.
- 12:37Cool thing is our special effects team, David B Miller and
- 12:40all those people, they are the entire fraternity of the betas.
- 12:44Oh really? That is all of the special
- 12:46effects team right there. Oh, that's awesome.
- 12:48The. Reason they did that is because
- 12:50they wanted to become the zombies themselves so they could
- 12:52plaster themselves to like reduce time on everything.
- 12:55So they didn't want to do any of the people.
- 12:56So like, we'll just be the zombies.
- 12:58I respect that. It was really cool.
- 12:59And you know what? They did pretty OK.
- 13:01You know, I, I would have guessed that they were actually
- 13:03actors. Speaking of the special effects,
- 13:05the creeps, the little like. Leach.
- 13:09Yeah, they were like slug guys, like the way that they got them
- 13:11to move around. They had like little box cars
- 13:13underneath them that would like go a little Hot Wheels.
- 13:16Yeah. And then they would also like
- 13:18tie wires to them and just kind of drag them around.
- 13:21Well, now I have a new craft project.
- 13:23I think that that would that would drive the.
- 13:25Pets here absolutely won. Lose it.
- 13:28Zoe would hunt it. Yeah, absolutely.
- 13:30Zoe. Like that's one that we'd hear
- 13:32her in the middle of the night. Yeah, the secial effect scene
- 13:37was really sread thin though, because they had a really tight
- 13:41deadline for all of this. And aarently this caused some
- 13:45tensions on set between them. It stressed them all out.
- 13:48There was lots of them fighting. They got so fed up with one dude
- 13:52who they were like, this was the prankster of the group.
- 13:55He kept like fucking with people.
- 13:56So they all got pissed off at him.
- 13:58So one day they got a video camera.
- 14:01They waited for him to return from lunch and they grabbed him
- 14:04and they taped him to a crucifix.
- 14:05And then they took him out to the streets and like, left him
- 14:08out there on like the road just so people would drive by.
- 14:11And they were all just, like, honking at him as they were
- 14:13driving by. And the way that they're talking
- 14:15about this in the special features, they're like, oh,
- 14:17yeah. It was just like a, you know,
- 14:19people like that fuck around. We do that shit.
- 14:22I'm wanting to know what else goes down on like horror movie
- 14:24sets whenever like the special effects crew's not getting
- 14:28along. That is, listen, I can
- 14:32understand the time and leaving in the middle of the street,
- 14:35I've done that. The crucifix part is what kind
- 14:38of keeps it up a notch, Yeah. It's pretty dark, man.
- 14:42And you know, I think that kind of goes to show you don't want
- 14:45to piss off the special effects scene because they can.
- 14:46Make. Yeah.
- 14:48They can make like a crucifix like that and get you on it.
- 14:51That's intense, and that's really intense.
- 14:54I'm uncomfortable. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:58I am honestly shocked that they shared that story.
- 15:00Yeah, like, wow, that's the one you keep to yourselves, guys,
- 15:03with the preview that they did. So they ended up showing like
- 15:07the unfinished product to MGM. It's apparently like a normal
- 15:11process that they do. It went terribly.
- 15:15Apparently they ended up having to change the ending as a result
- 15:19of this. The reason why is so the version
- 15:22that we watched. I liked the the director.
- 15:25'S yeah. So we watched the director's
- 15:26cut, and the director's cut is basically the theatrical cut,
- 15:31but it's just a different ending.
- 15:33The theatrical cut has like this dog coming in and you know the
- 15:38dog is like going to be a character in a movie and ends up
- 15:40like. It's the house mother's dog.
- 15:41She gets infected when the axe murderer like bursts up through
- 15:44the floor. Right.
- 15:45And then it just like blows up in Cindy's face.
- 15:47Yeah, the director's cut has Cameron come out of the fire.
- 15:53Yeah. And like, you know, the things
- 15:56spread to a cemetery. And then we see a spaceship
- 15:58floating over the cemetery. Well, apparently because it was
- 16:01unfinished, they had a very poorly done spaceship
- 16:04placeholder over the cemetery. And apparently that thing just
- 16:08really did not sit well. So they really forced him to do,
- 16:13like a whole new ending with that.
- 16:14However, with that came more money, so he ended up shooting
- 16:19that one little bit. That's different for the
- 16:22theatrical ending. It's just the dog walking up and
- 16:24doing that, and he took the rest of the money and he did
- 16:27additional shots and scenes. So that scene where they go into
- 16:31the garden shed, he used that money to film that scene.
- 16:34OK, I like that scene. I know.
- 16:36I thought that was a good addition right there.
- 16:40And really because of all of this, and apparently like him
- 16:43and the producer were making a lot of like they were picking a
- 16:45lot of fights for their vision of certain things and they were
- 16:48having a lot of losing battles with the producer or with the
- 16:52company. Ended up getting a very half
- 16:56hearted release, which would explain why we have bad box
- 17:00office summers For this. Decker blames himself.
- 17:02He says that he doesn't feel as though he'd navigated the
- 17:05politics of the business properly, and as a result, he
- 17:09thinks that they shafted him. I feel bad for.
- 17:12Him I do too, and he this is one that I spotted myself when I'm
- 17:16proud because I found out he did his next movie, which came out
- 17:21the following year, Monster Squad.
- 17:23OK. And there is that scene where JC
- 17:27goes into the bathroom and starts doing graffiti.
- 17:30One of the graffiti in there is go Monster Squad.
- 17:34So cool. It was like, yeah, a year before
- 17:36the movie that came out. This is like a little Easter
- 17:38egg, like, here's the future project right here.
- 17:40Yeah. OK.
- 17:42All right, that's all my fun facts right there, OK.
- 17:44That's a lot of fun facts. Yeah, a lot of fun.
- 17:46A lot of facts. Yeah, I hope so.
- 17:48I hope it was fun. Yeah.
- 17:50All right, so that's all of that.
- 17:52So let's do our good. Bad.
- 17:53I'll go again. Absurd.
- 17:54And Jesse, you kick it off. What'd you like?
- 17:56I'm so glad that we can finally talk about this.
- 17:58We watched this two nights ago and we've been cuz we've never
- 18:01seen this. Yeah, this is a first.
- 18:02Watch first. Post yes and we've been putting
- 18:04off talking about it with each other.
- 18:06I thought this movie was so much fucking fun.
- 18:09I'm glad you liked it because I was worried that you weren't
- 18:11gonna like. It it is you can tell he's got a
- 18:13love of like those B horror movies.
- 18:15So when you said he was just throwing all of his knowledge in
- 18:18there, you can tell that it was done from somebody who like
- 18:21lives in that space. Yeah, he was an interesting
- 18:24dude. Like his interviews were good,
- 18:26apparently. Like he was a super shy dude, so
- 18:28like there was concerns if he was actually going to be able to
- 18:31like command a set. So Chris is kind of like a self
- 18:34insert for him. Yeah, that's what they actually
- 18:36were saying. Like, well, like the guy that
- 18:38played Chris was like, like, I feel like the director wanted to
- 18:41like put in like make that character kind of him.
- 18:44So, you know, I got to be like. And he's like, I don't really
- 18:46want to say not cool because he didn't want to like, but, you
- 18:50know, like, kind of like the nerdy dude, Yeah.
- 18:52Yeah, I thought, God, there's just so much fun It it doesn't
- 18:56take itself too seriously, but in the best way.
- 18:58You know, we talk a lot of times on this show that like camp is
- 19:01either really good if it's very self aware or if it plays it
- 19:04very straight. And this is the one that like
- 19:06it's very self aware. Yeah.
- 19:07And it leans into it and it has fun with it.
- 19:10I think this is my favorite Tom Atkins I've ever seen cuz he is
- 19:14so goddamn unhinged. He said that this is his
- 19:18favorite movie he's done like in in his interview.
- 19:21He's like, people ask me like Night of the Creeps, my best
- 19:24movie, like best character I've ever done.
- 19:26It was like fantastic he had. A lot of fun.
- 19:28Yeah, it is so much fun. It keeps up the pace the whole
- 19:32time, like you're never lacking for anything.
- 19:35I just I I love this movie so much.
- 19:38I'm glad you like it. Yeah.
- 19:40Yeah, I had a lot of fun with it too.
- 19:41Do you have any more goods or? I mean, probably a lot of goods.
- 19:45I said I'm just going to be gushing about it as it goes
- 19:47along. But it just overall, it's just,
- 19:50it's a fun time like that. We start in the 50s and for a
- 19:53while you're like, is this axe murderer ever going to come
- 19:55back? But it's really not about the
- 19:56murderer. It's about Atkins.
- 19:59That's true. I like how they weave like those
- 20:02parts of the story right there, like the opening.
- 20:04I like how it starts off with that very, it was very 50s
- 20:07because it has the black and white and like the costume
- 20:10design. Everything's perfect.
- 20:11You can tell he grew up with those movies because it starts
- 20:14off with like an alien invasion type thing where we get aliens
- 20:17sending some kind of thing out. But yeah, the axe murder thing,
- 20:21I didn't expect that. And I like that.
- 20:23It's like a consist, like it comes back.
- 20:26It's a consistent plot line. I like how it ties into Tom
- 20:29Atkins character because like I must be stupid or something
- 20:33because I just didn't make that connection until he started
- 20:36telling Chris in the movie. Like I was that cop.
- 20:39I was like, what the fuck? No way.
- 20:41And. I kind of I.
- 20:42Figured it. I figured it out actually a
- 20:44little bit earlier when we saw flashbacks of him.
- 20:46But I thought he was a different cop.
- 20:48I didn't think he was like the ex boy boyfriend of Pam, I think
- 20:52her name was. Yeah, like you said, this guy
- 20:54like the cheesiness too, with the campiness.
- 20:56That's, you know, it's perfect, perfect tone for this.
- 20:59I just, I just think it was really well put together.
- 21:02It's really, it's just a fun movie, honestly.
- 21:04Special effects were great. Yeah, we've we've covered it
- 21:10pretty much at this point. All right, so what's some bad
- 21:12stuff? I'm gonna, I'm gonna throw this
- 21:14bad at MDM because the alien shit makes very little fucking
- 21:19sense if we don't wrap it up at the end.
- 21:20Like I get that the things came from space, but like, I don't
- 21:24know, I feel like in the theatrical cut we don't get that
- 21:27neat little bow. Like we don't see the aliens
- 21:29coming back for it. Yeah, and I just, I like that
- 21:33ending a lot better. Like apparently they also had a
- 21:35problem. I think that they thought it was
- 21:39like sequel bait and they didn't want to just like throw that out
- 21:41there. Apparently, like they were also
- 21:43saying a big thing of the time was the ending to carry.
- 21:48So everybody was wanting to have the shock ending.
- 21:49So they really were pushing like, hey, have like a big jump
- 21:52scare at the end. For me, it gives vibes like the
- 21:55the director's ending gives vibes of like the ending of
- 21:59Return of the Living. That's.
- 22:00Exactly what I was thinking. Too, where it's like, oh, so
- 22:03everybody's just fought. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:05And honestly, I would love to see a sequel of this right here.
- 22:07Yeah. I feel like you can even, like,
- 22:09bring Tom Atkins back, you know, like, I mean, like, he's fried
- 22:13to a crisp, but like, I don't know, like, maybe they can
- 22:16repurpose bodies because they are reanimating bodies all over
- 22:19the place in this movie. Yeah.
- 22:21So it could happen. OK, You got any other bats?
- 22:27Honestly, not a ton because I just.
- 22:29There's a lot about this movie that, like in somebody who
- 22:34didn't have love for the B horror, like a lot of these
- 22:37things wouldn't work or they'd fall flat, But he knew exactly
- 22:40how to pick up certain threads or certain plot points and use
- 22:43them to his advantage. So I think it all ended up
- 22:46really generally working out. Yeah, this is this is one that's
- 22:51really hard for me to find anything bad.
- 22:53Also, I thought the dance was going to be more of a thing.
- 22:58Yeah. Like, you know, like it like
- 23:01they're gearing up for it at the end of the movie.
- 23:02But really it's just like a ultimately it's just like a,
- 23:05hey, how do we get a bunch of frat dudes on a bus?
- 23:08Like, I mean, really, that's a. But I think it does kind of make
- 23:12a cool setting. So at least, you know, like
- 23:14college formal type thing, you know, it's a fun time.
- 23:18Yeah, man, I really like. I don't know, I don't have too
- 23:24much bad to say about it, OK? Nothing I could think of right
- 23:26away. I don't want to force it.
- 23:28Yeah. OK, ugly stuff.
- 23:31I guess some of the fraternity stuff that's going on, like how
- 23:35they're the hazing. Yeah.
- 23:37And just generally, like, it's not even hazing with Jaycee and
- 23:41Chris, 'cause they have no intention of letting them in.
- 23:43Yeah. And then their idea of a prank.
- 23:47Maybe he got this suggestion from the special effects crew.
- 23:53Like, Oh dear, put that body up there.
- 23:55Fraternity dude. Of course it was their idea.
- 23:59Like. That's so funny.
- 24:03What's What's the joke? There I like, you know, maybe
- 24:06there was nothing in the script. Maybe it was just like and they
- 24:08play a prank and then like the special effects seems like no,
- 24:10no, no, like let's get a body. No, there's got to be something
- 24:13there because they're otherwise hardly going to go down to the
- 24:15morgue, you know what I mean? Well, I thought that they were
- 24:18going to leave it vague for a while, but then they ended up
- 24:21actually outright saying what the prank was.
- 24:23Yeah, which again, what was the ultimate joke with it?
- 24:27I guess it's like the rival fraternity that they were going
- 24:29to be. But what?
- 24:31But what point is it proving? Dominance.
- 24:36Here's a dead person on your front lawn.
- 24:38Deal with it. You know that That sends a
- 24:42message. That's a strong message.
- 24:45Also just Bradster. Oh yeah.
- 24:47Bradster. Dude, that was mine because like
- 24:50I, I, I told Jesse this whenever I was doing it, but like
- 24:53whenever I'm doing these, I like to like keep tabs of my things.
- 24:56So like I write ugly on the side and then like I started to write
- 25:00ugly, but I accidentally just wrote Brad.
- 25:01I was like, that's perfect. Actually, Brad's just the ugly,
- 25:06like the whole thing where he like, takes out JC with his
- 25:09crutches and yeah, just like a fucking asshole.
- 25:12And Cindy's like, Nope, we're done.
- 25:15That's it. Yeah, this is the fuck.
- 25:17Maybe she breaks up in the best way too, like the little like
- 25:20wind up middle. Fingers.
- 25:21Yeah, that's the language that frat guys communicate in.
- 25:25Yeah, it's effective. It's dead bodies and middle
- 25:28fingers. That's how you get through to
- 25:29them. Yeah, I was a frat guy.
- 25:31I can confirm this. You understood it all
- 25:33completely. Yeah, all right.
- 25:36Absurd. Oh my God, I had one ready and
- 25:41then we started talking about Brad and I forgot.
- 25:43OK, so they're getting ready for the formal, right?
- 25:47We have their little getting ready montage and then for some
- 25:49reason all of the betas are the dates for the Delta sigmas.
- 25:55And Chris? And Chris, yeah.
- 26:00It's just like the Dead 1 sorority and the one fraternity
- 26:03at this campus they. Get on their bus to go to the
- 26:07sorority house, which is real. That is a real thing.
- 26:10Yeah, but they have glasses. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 26:16I was like, no, absolutely not, There's no fucking way.
- 26:20That's not going to go well, yeah.
- 26:22Like, even in a frat house setting, like where they're not
- 26:26on wheels, that's sketchy at best.
- 26:27That's how you wind up with like, a sorority girl with a cut
- 26:32in her foot. Yeah.
- 26:33At a party that just no, that's that's we don't do that.
- 26:38I think it's funny that even though that was the disaster
- 26:41that was set up, we get the bus wrecking instead.
- 26:44Yeah, because there was a dog in the road.
- 26:45An alien dog yeah. Yeah, I like that the best
- 26:50driver tried to swerve to protect the dog I.
- 26:53Mean that's what you got to do, man.
- 26:54Yeah, yeah, you always swerve. If it means killing a bus full
- 26:58of Frank guys, I mean, that's what you got to do.
- 27:02I mean, like, it's the trolley problem, like, but if you put a
- 27:04dog out there, it's like, OK. Yeah, I will pull the letter.
- 27:07And they're like, you don't know who's on the other rail.
- 27:09It doesn't matter. We're saving the dog.
- 27:11Yeah, exactly. It's a dog.
- 27:13OK. Yeah, there are.
- 27:15There are a lot of absurd moments in this.
- 27:18I liked the one scene with the corpse walking out and he's like
- 27:21all like cut up and like he like walks right by one of the cops
- 27:25is like, hey, how you doing? Like he's like not even paying
- 27:28attention. Was this guy just, like,
- 27:29completely, like, dead? I like that scene when JC is,
- 27:35like, bopping to his, like, headphones in the dorm room with
- 27:38Chris there because it's such a relatable moment.
- 27:40Yeah, like, it's like, annoying being next to that roommate
- 27:44that's doing that. But they're also being
- 27:45respectful that they're not blasting their music like right
- 27:48at you, but like, what are you going to do?
- 27:50And that's such a real dorm room set up too.
- 27:52It was actually tiny. I know what a dorm room is.
- 27:55Whenever I was looking at this movie, like even the outside,
- 27:58like the dorm, it reminded me of Todd.
- 28:00And. Yeah, like it looked exactly
- 28:03like our dorms. Yeah.
- 28:05And then the dorm rooms and like inside.
- 28:07Yeah, perfect. They must have actually filmed
- 28:09that at. A Yes.
- 28:10University. Absolutely.
- 28:12I like also one of my favorite moments in the movie is when Tom
- 28:18Atkins and I'm just, I just call them Tom Atkins.
- 28:21Yeah. And Chris go to get a
- 28:24flamethrower from Dick Miller, and they're just, like, joking.
- 28:27I was like, yeah, I'm going to need a flamethrower.
- 28:28And they're just, like, laughing about it.
- 28:30And then he just, like, gets the shot.
- 28:31I was like, I'm serious. He just points it at him.
- 28:33I didn't pay attention to the opening credits right, because I
- 28:36just didn't whatever. And the whole time we were
- 28:41watching this movie, I was like, this movie feels like it needs a
- 28:43Dick Miller pop up moment. And then when he gets to the
- 28:47requisition, we're like. I don't think that.
- 28:49They mentioned Dick Miller in the opening credits.
- 28:52I think, yeah, he's just a good cameo or like a small role type
- 28:55thing. But yeah, I was with you.
- 28:57Like, I'm not lying. I was also thinking Dick Miller
- 29:00could use him right now. Yeah.
- 29:01And then we got him. It was like perfect placement
- 29:03for Dick Miller right there. Joke about getting a flame
- 29:05thrower. Yeah, he was like, well, at
- 29:08first he laughs and he's like, OK, yeah, no, you're even gonna
- 29:10watch the pilot light on this guy 'cause once it goes out, so
- 29:12bitch, you get started. Now I just need your requisition
- 29:14form and like Tom Atkins, close up his 12 gauge and he's like
- 29:19having this for a requisition. In this movie, Tom Atkins
- 29:22replaces the six pack with the 12 gauge.
- 29:24He doubled the number, but switched it from beers to gauge.
- 29:28Yeah. All right, that's it from my
- 29:30absurds. OK.
- 29:31All right, so let's rate. To 9.75.
- 29:35Oh damn. Such.
- 29:36A good fucking movie. I would 100% recommend this to
- 29:39anybody. OK, Yeah, I'm, I'm sticking with
- 29:41a nine for right now. I can be pushed up though if we
- 29:45need to or if it gets to that point.
- 29:48I have a feeling we're going to have a lot of fun things to say
- 29:50about this. So so it might get up there.
- 29:52OK. So we have a starting average of
- 29:539.375. All right, very strong.
- 29:56OK, let's go. So you know those videos where
- 29:59it's like something's happening that you're waiting to see if
- 30:03it's gonna be an almost satisfying conclusion or an
- 30:06infuriating conclusion? I think so.
- 30:09So that was this with it like trying to like develop the night
- 30:13of the creeps logo. If you.
- 30:17So if you've never heard the phrase kerning, I'm about to
- 30:20ruin your life because kerning is like the spacing between
- 30:24letters and words on like a sign or a logo or even just like
- 30:27general like typeface or whatever term for that.
- 30:30OK. And once you start paying
- 30:32attention, you can't not see it. And I was like, Oh no, like cuz
- 30:36the way like they were slowly getting spaced apart was
- 30:39happening at weird intervals and I was like.
- 30:41Oh this is making my. Skin itch.
- 30:43Man, no, that didn't occur to me.
- 30:47It's a very slow oh rise though that that creep creeps.
- 30:50Yeah, it it do it Don't leap, it creeps.
- 30:54No. So we start off with hissing on
- 30:56a spaceship. There's some aliens fighting.
- 30:59OK, yeah, I wrote Fart Alien. Fart alien.
- 31:03Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. That's right, I said.
- 31:05I hope one of us remembers why I wrote Fart Aliens.
- 31:08I remember, do you? No.
- 31:10Oh. Because we said that's what
- 31:11Talia's farts look like running through her tummy.
- 31:13Because yeah, you were saying the opening credits looked like
- 31:16the inside of like what Scott's tummy maybe looks like.
- 31:20Yes, yeah. And then we said the aliens
- 31:22running were what Talia's tummy looks like when she's got a
- 31:25fart. It's like when her stomach is
- 31:27rumbling. We have these like 2 little
- 31:29thumb aliens just like getting around blasting themselves
- 31:31talking about the experiment. Yeah.
- 31:33Yeah, and ultimately it's the release of the experiment Is the
- 31:38fart. Basically, it's a metaphor for
- 31:40farts. Yeah, the whole movie is just a
- 31:42metaphor for fart. It's very upfront about the
- 31:45messaging some would call ham fisted.
- 31:49But yeah, the aliens they're fighting, one of them has like
- 31:53the experiment that puts it in like a like a pod and shoots it
- 31:57out into space, No. Then we catch the sorority row
- 32:001959, and a boy picks up a girl for a date.
- 32:05They're going to go parking on the clip side.
- 32:08Yep, going on make out .1. Of them old fashioned ones, it's
- 32:11Johnny and Pam. They're looking up at the stars
- 32:14and they're like, what do you think is the biggest * And then
- 32:16they see one heading right towards him and they're like, I
- 32:18bet it's that one. While they're out there, a cop
- 32:22comes by to warn them that there is a madman on the loose who is
- 32:26wanted for killing people with an axe.
- 32:28That's another cool thing, like because we keep getting sippets
- 32:31of that. We get that when Johnny's
- 32:32driving to pick up Pam and he's on the radio, he's like, there's
- 32:34somebody out on the loose. And she's like, click, click it
- 32:37off. Yeah.
- 32:37And then you just keep getting more and more bits of
- 32:39information. Yeah, they're setting up like a
- 32:41man card, door hook, hand type of thing.
- 32:44This is a cool thing. Like I didn't expect us to have
- 32:47like an axe killer in this movie.
- 32:48Yeah, the fact. That the axe killer like stays
- 32:50throughout the movie is really awesome.
- 32:52I like this. And we get immediate tension
- 32:55between the cop and Pam because the cop Ray is Pam's ex.
- 32:59Yeah, yeah. Because like, we got some like
- 33:02her talking to her sorority sisters about him.
- 33:05Yeah. So they see the star coming
- 33:08towards a meteor, obviously now, and they decide they want to go
- 33:12find it. Really.
- 33:13Johnny decides he wants to go find it, and because Pam can't
- 33:16walk back to the sorority house by herself, she's along for the
- 33:19ride. So they they go.
- 33:21They find it somewhere in the woods and he gets out to go look
- 33:25for it and she says she's going to wait in the car.
- 33:27Except, unfortunately, as she's waiting in the car.
- 33:30We got a message on the radios like the killer is on this road
- 33:34and it happens to be the exact Rd. that they're parked on.
- 33:38And then, and at the same time that that's happening, Johnny
- 33:43gets UFO's splooge in his mouth. Yeah, I like this.
- 33:47Like I didn't expect the axe score to show up here, but like
- 33:50right there behind her and then like it shows her actually get
- 33:53the fucking axe. Yeah, damn.
- 33:55I was like, what's not expecting them?
- 33:58So then we got to Pledge Week 1986 captions had a moment
- 34:03because they were talking about how Jaycee was like trying to
- 34:06pump Chris up and he said we're two bitching young dudes, except
- 34:09bitching instead of being BITCHIN.
- 34:13Apostrophe is a BITCHEN. Oh bitchen, bitchen, bitchen.
- 34:20So yeah, Jaycee is like trying to pump Chris up.
- 34:24Dude, the dude's the ultimate wing man.
- 34:25He's like, he's a fucking good dude to have as a friend.
- 34:29Dude honestly like the whole time I was watching this, I
- 34:32like, I wish that JC would pump himself up a little bit cuz he's
- 34:36so down on himself for his crutches.
- 34:37And I was like, if I talk to these two dudes, JC is probably
- 34:40the one that would be getting my attention.
- 34:42Yeah, JC was awesome. He's got the confidence and he's
- 34:44just, like, a nice and funny guy.
- 34:47Yeah. And like, they're over there and
- 34:49Chris spots somebody across the street and it's Cindy.
- 34:52She's talking with a bunch of other women on, I guess, the
- 34:56front yard of their sorority house.
- 34:57And JC yells at her to try and get her attention.
- 35:01And, you know, we're planting seeds here.
- 35:04Yeah. They make eye contact.
- 35:05They've established themselves. And then they see her go into
- 35:09the beta house and they're like, OK, well, we need to go into the
- 35:12beta house too. Chris.
- 35:14Chris sees her outside and she uses the dude with a an intense
- 35:18unibrow. Dude big.
- 35:20A big unibrow. You know, a lot of times when we
- 35:22talk about a unibrow, it's more just like there's a couple of
- 35:25like really thick hairs in the middle that gives the illusion
- 35:28of it being connected. This guy is.
- 35:29A single this is. He's got the Helga Pataki.
- 35:32Oh, I was gonna say this is Bert.
- 35:36Ernie, Bert. Which one's the other one from
- 35:41The Muppets? Dude, you're thinking of Sesame
- 35:43Street. Sesame Street puppets are
- 35:45Muppets. Also, no they're not.
- 35:46Canonically, yes they are. No.
- 35:48Anyway, which one is Bert and which one's Ernie?
- 35:51Bert not focusing on the right. Thing Ernie is the old one,
- 35:53Bert's the orange one, OK. He's got an Ernie Brow.
- 35:58OK. That's all I was trying to get
- 36:00at. OK, yeah, he does.
- 36:02Yeah, he looks just as angry. JC is like wing man and he goes
- 36:06up and he tells Steve that he's got phone calls.
- 36:09He's like, oh man, looks good. Look it out and smooth.
- 36:12Dude, like, yeah, because like that right there, guessing that
- 36:15he made the guess, like that's not her boyfriend.
- 36:17So he's like, I'm going to pretend like I'm her boyfriend
- 36:20to get her out of this conversation.
- 36:22I also love this moment because Steve is a dummy because JC
- 36:29comes over and says, hey, what's your name?
- 36:34He doesn't say are you Chris? He or he doesn't say are you
- 36:37Steve? He says.
- 36:38What's your name? To be fair, he asks Cindy.
- 36:41He's like, what's his name? It's smooth.
- 36:43This dude's smooth. He doesn't make any fuck ups
- 36:45like that. Yeah, and like I say, OK, fine.
- 36:47I guess I do. So he starts talking up Chris a
- 36:51little bit. Chris is being a little spazzy
- 36:54over there on the side, though. He's not even wanting to make
- 36:56eye contact with either of them. And Cindy is just like, well,
- 37:00I'm actually here with somebody. And when JC comes back to report
- 37:04that to Chris, who's like, you know what I need to do.
- 37:06I need to become a beta for her to pay attention to me.
- 37:09Yeah, but he does report back. It's like I don't think Steve is
- 37:12her boyfriend, which is actually true.
- 37:14Yes, that is correct. Yeah, she's actually with the
- 37:17president of Beta. Yeah, the Brads, Drew.
- 37:20Yeah. So they're pledging beta now.
- 37:23They are being, I guess, like interviewed by Brad and the rest
- 37:29of the betas. And they're like, OK, why should
- 37:31we let you in? They have to complete an act of
- 37:33devotion, and we don't know what that is yet.
- 37:37Instead, we cut to the lab. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:40So they. The science room, as you once
- 37:42referred to it. That's not wrong, man.
- 37:45Science happens here. It's a room of science, the
- 37:47science room. Technically, science happens
- 37:50everywhere we live. That's not true.
- 37:52Surrounded by science. It doesn't happen everywhere.
- 37:54Not everybody's just doing science.
- 37:55I'm not doing science right. Here are you breathing in and
- 37:58out? That's not doing science, maybe.
- 38:00Doing science. That's doing life.
- 38:03That's not doing science life. Is science.
- 38:08Fine, whatever everything is every every room is a science
- 38:11room. All right, so they are walking
- 38:13down the science hall into the science room.
- 38:16And there's a science guy on the science phone.
- 38:18Yeah, and he can't get the damn science button to work, so he
- 38:22uses the damn science phone to call a science partner and he's
- 38:26like, hey, what's the code? And then JC just walks over to
- 38:29the code while he's away from it and he hits 0.
- 38:32Yes, the code is 0. So this science guy not too good
- 38:36at a science job? Yeah, not Bill Nye.
- 38:40So they go into the room and they see this guy that's
- 38:43cryogenically frozen and Jaycee. This is probably one of his
- 38:47Dumber moments. He goes over there and just
- 38:49starts hitting buttons. Here's the thing, he's so
- 38:51excited about it. He's like, this is science
- 38:54fiction type stuff. This is amazing.
- 38:56What a wonderful breakthrough. Let's unfreeze the guy.
- 39:00Clearly you've seen this movie, Jaycee.
- 39:03I honestly can't believe that they're getting a body.
- 39:06They're actually going for it. That is absurd.
- 39:09I cannot believe that, but they get it.
- 39:11They open up the tube, they get Johnny.
- 39:14Johnny is the guy in there and he just collapses on them.
- 39:18Except as I go to pick him up he grabs one of them so they freak
- 39:22out and they run out past the science guy.
- 39:24Like Banshees? Like banshees and then the
- 39:27science guy is science scared into opening his mouth and
- 39:31getting science splooge. He gets science in the mouth.
- 39:34Yeah, yeah. They, Chris and Jaycee are in
- 39:36their dorm room and I love this moment between them because it's
- 39:39so real. Like because up until now, and
- 39:43JC has been a stellar friend. And part of me is like, what the
- 39:46fuck is he even getting out of this friendship?
- 39:48And he's like, dude, you're just so fucking depressed all the
- 39:50time since your breakup and I'm trying to make things better.
- 39:54And yeah, of course I'm going to joke around because you're such
- 39:56a sad fucking sack all the time and we can't both be sad sacks.
- 39:59And, you know, my life's hard, but you know, I keep on going
- 40:02and living. And you know what?
- 40:03I love you, man. And I just want you to be happy.
- 40:05So I'm trying to make you happy. It's like, yeah, like I'm not
- 40:07going to get any girls. So why not like, help my friend
- 40:09get girls? You know what?
- 40:10Because yeah, I'm, I'm a good bro and he just fucking lets him
- 40:14have it. And I'm happy for him.
- 40:15And he needed to hear that. That's the type of wake up call
- 40:18that Chris needs to hear. Yeah.
- 40:19And then I like the follow up. And then Chris is like, hey, can
- 40:22I have that pillow? And he just takes the pillow and
- 40:25throws it and treats you as hard as he could.
- 40:28You and I have done that after petty arguments before.
- 40:33It's the perfect like, all right, man, I heard.
- 40:36Understood. Fuck you.
- 40:40Let me cut to Tom Atkins. He's on a beach.
- 40:43Dude, perfect way to introduce Tom Atkins to a movie.
- 40:46I feel like he agreed to do the movie.
- 40:49If only he could have a James Bond.
- 40:50Movie he's like OK, like can I choose my wardrobe in the scene
- 40:53please? And like OK fine.
- 40:55So like shows up fully white suit on a beach.
- 40:58Got some kind of alcohol? Not a linen suit, because I
- 41:02understand. You hear White suit on the
- 41:03beach. You think linen?
- 41:04No, this is like a white tux. Yeah, yeah, this dude is dressed
- 41:08to the fucking nines over here. He's watching Pam come out of
- 41:11the out of the ocean again. It's very Bond imagery.
- 41:15Yeah. And then all of a sudden, oh,
- 41:18actually she's being murdered. That's fucking intense.
- 41:23Yeah, you see. Like he's just there standing at
- 41:25the cop car and it's just the axe murderer just whacking at
- 41:29her with an axe. Holy shit.
- 41:30And then he actually wakes up in his armchair.
- 41:34He gets a phone call. Throw me throw.
- 41:36Me, I love that one. That is a cool one.
- 41:39You know, he like branded to himself hard and fast as that
- 41:43and he goes like I can't drop it now.
- 41:46Yeah, he's like the guy. He's like the throw me guy.
- 41:48Yeah, like he has to say it. Yeah, so he gets a call.
- 41:52There's a break in at the lab, 2 bodies.
- 41:55So he gets there and he's like looking around and all of the
- 41:58science stuff in the science room.
- 42:00And this is where he's like, all right, what is this?
- 42:02Homicide or a beppy movie. Great line.
- 42:06I wish he had just like done a Craig Robinson looked directly.
- 42:09In camera and I like this part where the cops was like, all
- 42:12right, I was told there were two bodies, but there's only one.
- 42:14What happened? He's like he goes.
- 42:16On a like 92nd monologue carrying into this detective,
- 42:21turning into one of the squad cops about the difference
- 42:27between 1:00 and 2:00 and can you count 2?
- 42:29I like the guys. He's like, well, there was a
- 42:31communications issue and then like he like goes to the other.
- 42:34He's like, what's he talking about?
- 42:35I was like, well, there was a con issue and.
- 42:38He goes, yeah, it's like a third one.
- 42:40He goes there is a dispatch issue.
- 42:41Yeah, it's just funny. So we cut to Johnny's body
- 42:44walking and we see Brad dropping Cindy off at the her sorority
- 42:49house. And we come to another sister
- 42:51who's inside and she's studying and she hears a tap, tap tapping
- 42:56at the window, a rap tap tapping at her chamber door.
- 42:59Thank you. It's a key.
- 43:01Cat, this is Zoe. Yeah.
- 43:03I mean, it looks exactly like Zoe.
- 43:04Acts just like Zoe. That's Zoe right there.
- 43:06That's what happens anytime if I'm going to open the store
- 43:08right now. Zoe will be right there.
- 43:10She'll be right there and she'll yell at me and jump at me.
- 43:12Yeah, that's how she is. Yeah, I guess that's her study
- 43:15partner. Yeah.
- 43:17So that's sweet. But at Cindy's window is not a
- 43:21little wrapped up. Tapping it is in fact the body
- 43:24of Johnny. Oh, also, before this we had one
- 43:27of the sisters ask Cindy's like, hey, I've got like all of these
- 43:30brains for my, you know, bio class project.
- 43:34Where do you guys mind if I put them in the basement?
- 43:36And here's the fucking thing. This is what I mean, that this
- 43:38movie ties up things that like other like B horror movies would
- 43:43just drop off as plot lines. I saw that me being the person
- 43:47who watches a lot of B horror, it was like, that's going to be
- 43:49A It's just a thing. I thought that I knew for sure.
- 43:51I was like, well, we're gonna have like, shit, they're gonna
- 43:54come for that. That's gonna be a thing.
- 43:56You don't do that. And just like, OK, some people.
- 43:59Some bad movies do. Some do, but yeah, I had
- 44:02confidence in this movie, so that's gonna play out into
- 44:04something. Yeah, so she puts a jar of
- 44:06brains in the basement. It's so weird, like I've got a
- 44:10bunch of brains. I need to put them in our
- 44:12sorority house basement. You guys are cool with that,
- 44:14right? Doing a science experiment, you
- 44:16would leave it in the science building in one of the science
- 44:19rooms. Aren't all building science
- 44:20buildings? That is true according to my
- 44:22thesis, yes. You've already, like, destroyed
- 44:24yourself, I think, yeah. A cell phone.
- 44:28OK, so the Johnny is at Cindy's window.
- 44:32She freaks out, his head splits open, and we've got brain slugs
- 44:35just. Fine everywhere.
- 44:37Yeah, the cops arrive and. There's a body in front of the
- 44:42that's already house. The patrol cops are so excited.
- 44:45They're like, hey, look, it's the other body and Cameron's
- 44:49like, I'm not, I'm not excited about.
- 44:53This that's the thing with this movie, they keep getting more
- 44:56and more excited at like the gruesomeness of each.
- 45:00Crime scene. Like later on with the house 1,
- 45:02like you can't even like we're going to need like all kinds of
- 45:05stretchers. If you put them on every single
- 45:06everybody part on a single stretcher, you didn't have to
- 45:09have like 100 like body parts everywhere.
- 45:11He said that apropos with nothing to.
- 45:13You. He was smiling.
- 45:14Yeah. He was so fucking happy about
- 45:16it. But Ray is having a flashback to
- 45:18the axe murderer, and he's kind of looking around the backyard.
- 45:22He's having flashbacks to burying a body back there, but
- 45:24now it's the house. Mothers Cottage.
- 45:26Yeah, and he's standing back there.
- 45:29Yeah. He's just like staring at it.
- 45:30And then the detective comes over there and he's like, hey,
- 45:33like, step out of the camera. And he's like, hey, so do.
- 45:36You think he calls him Ray, which is where I'm at the
- 45:38connection. OK, so that it's the same
- 45:40person. These smart peoples probably did
- 45:42the same thing, but I did not I'm.
- 45:44A science person. There we go.
- 45:47But he's like, hey, did that to you?
- 45:49Did that wound look like an axe wound to you?
- 45:52So he's starting to think, like, maybe the axe murderer is back.
- 45:55Yeah, I think it's kind of crazy that he's like thinking the axe
- 45:57murderer is gonna be back when he shot him and buried him.
- 46:00Or, as Elton John would say, the bitch is back.
- 46:03Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, an axe murderer is kind
- 46:05of a bitch. Yeah.
- 46:06And to be fair. All right.
- 46:08So next day boys are approached by the betas and they're mad
- 46:11that they put the body in front of the wrong house.
- 46:14And they're like, no JCP, like we actually chickened out.
- 46:18We got freaked out by the body in the science room, so we
- 46:21chickened out. We didn't do that.
- 46:23Yeah, Chris like makes like a funny line.
- 46:25He was like, it's all Greek to me.
- 46:27Yeah, that was, that was really funny because he was like,
- 46:30you're supposed to put it at the PKE house, and instead you put
- 46:33it at the sorority house. And some girls are really
- 46:35freaked out about that. And they're like, yeah, no, it
- 46:38wasn't us. And they try to walk away.
- 46:40Brad kicks out Jaycee's crutch and Cindy sees that, and she's
- 46:44like oh hell no, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 46:47Yeah, Brad does like the thing, though.
- 46:49He gets pissed off and like his boys have got him.
- 46:51He like hands out. He just sticks his hands out.
- 46:53And this boy slaps him with sunglasses and he just, like,
- 46:56puts it on. And the other boy slaps him with
- 46:57the backpack and he puts that on.
- 47:00That's embarrassing to be one of those guys, to be the glasses
- 47:02and backpack guy for another dude.
- 47:04Yeah, boosting another boy. Have respect for yourself.
- 47:07You want to be the boy that gets boosted?
- 47:08If you're going to do boost and do like JC, yeah, that's a good
- 47:11booster right there. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:13So, Cindy? Cindy's feeling bad, so she goes
- 47:15over there today like talk to them a little bit.
- 47:17But JC and Chris get pulled into the police station for
- 47:21questioning. Yep, and it's Tom Atkins.
- 47:25And it's. They mentioned before that the
- 47:28janitor was a witness. They had seen two boys run out
- 47:30like banshees. In the interrogation room with
- 47:35the janitor. I'm pretty sure that's not how
- 47:37interrogations work. Have you ever been interrogated
- 47:40by Tom Atkins? Because I'm pretty sure that's.
- 47:42Exactly. That's how it would work with
- 47:43Tom Atkins, yes. That's how that goes.
- 47:46Yeah, so you like? I just love how amused the
- 47:49janitor is. He's like he he said that they
- 47:51ran out scream screaming like banshees and he just keeps
- 47:54laughing about it to himself. The entire time he doesn't stop
- 47:57laughing, up until a time jump where he is back in the science
- 48:02building and we see the scientist who is now dead.
- 48:09He sits up. He is.
- 48:12He scares the janitor and the janitor himself runs screaming,
- 48:16walks it out like banshee. Yeah, so Cindy gets a call from
- 48:20Brad. He's trying to smooth things
- 48:21over, but he says all the wrong things.
- 48:24He gets mad at her for being a psych major and using her psych
- 48:26Munbo jumbo bullshit. Dude, that is Christian V Danny.
- 48:32Oh my God, you're right. I was thinking whenever I heard
- 48:35this, like I've heard this. Somewhere.
- 48:36What the fuck have I heard this and.
- 48:38It is definitely Midsummer. Oh, don't use your psychology
- 48:41major on our relationship behind.
- 48:43Me. He's totally Christian.
- 48:47Yeah, so she's mad. Yeah, we see the studio's sister
- 48:52sees the cat. The cat was hurt.
- 48:55The cat has brain slugs. Yeah, man, that's upsetting.
- 49:00Like, you see, like the world, like melted cat face.
- 49:03Yeah. But apparently cats are allergic
- 49:06to brain slugs. I guess so.
- 49:09So we got back over to Detective Cameron Ray.
- 49:14Yeah, Ray, Yeah. He's going through his old
- 49:17yearbook and he's just, like, reminiscing the pan.
- 49:19He's called to emergency again. Yeah, this one's the science
- 49:22guy. Yeah.
- 49:24Cindy knocks on Chris's door and she's wanting to go on a walk
- 49:28with him and JC to, you know, talk about what she just saw at
- 49:32her house. Yeah, she was like, I knew we
- 49:33buried that cat, and yet it it came up and it attacked us.
- 49:38Yeah, And then she's like, hey, and also like, well, at this
- 49:41point Jason's like, hey, I'm gonna go to the bathroom because
- 49:43I realized you have an opportunity right here, Chris.
- 49:45And I'm gonna wing man and just like I'm gonna go do some
- 49:47graffiti and stuff. Yeah.
- 49:49But she's like, hey, so Chris, I know this is gonna sound crazy,
- 49:52but I think that that was a zombie, like his head like split
- 49:55open right in front of me. And there was this like, slug
- 49:57things that shot out everywhere. And like, I don't know what else
- 50:00to say other than like, that's what I saw.
- 50:03And he doesn't believe her. And she's a little bit upset
- 50:05because she's like, I thought I could talk to you.
- 50:07Yeah. He's blowing it.
- 50:09He he really is and I just I wrote that she predicts the plot
- 50:14of the entire movie like she knows how this movie is going
- 50:17Well, she's. Smart.
- 50:17She knows what's going to happen.
- 50:19So we cut to the zombified janitor.
- 50:23He's in the hallway and he follows JC into the bathroom.
- 50:27And he spits out a bunch of brain slugs onto the bathroom
- 50:30floor. And JC Smart is like, well,
- 50:33cool, need to figure something out.
- 50:35But he panics a little bit. This is the only time he's not
- 50:37been cool as a cucumber. And he knocks over his crutches,
- 50:40but there's also a pack of matches.
- 50:43So he manages to get a pack of match, and he drops in on one of
- 50:45the slugs, realizes it's flammable, and he's like, OK,
- 50:47cool, we're gonna try and figure out what we can do.
- 50:50Except now he's like crawling out.
- 50:51And we just cut to a slug crawling at his face.
- 50:55Man, I'm so I was it's. Such a bummer.
- 50:57Because I wanted him to stick around.
- 51:00But good news, should you choose to see it in this situation, is
- 51:03that Cindy has formally invited Chris to her formal tomorrow
- 51:07night. Yeah, and Ray just ruin us the
- 51:13whole. Thing I love it.
- 51:13It's like classic spanky. He just starts calling them
- 51:16different names at this point. Well, it's because he called
- 51:20Chris Spanky and JC Alfalfa. Yeah, he never bothered to learn
- 51:24their names. Is that a reference to
- 51:26something? Alfalfa is a reference to the
- 51:28little rascals. Spanky.
- 51:29Isn't spanky like the the dummy in the group like the I?
- 51:34Don't know honestly. I, I, I honestly have no clue.
- 51:37Hold on, you're looking it up. Yeah, I'm looking it up real
- 51:40quick. Spanky is in little.
- 51:41Rascals. Oh, OK dude, it's been so long
- 51:44since I've seen little rascals. Oh yeah, he's on with the little
- 51:47like. Oh.
- 51:48Yeah. Classic spanky.
- 51:50Classic spanky. Yeah, All right.
- 51:53So dude I like this because this is like where he gets spanky or
- 51:59Chris here and he just like trauma dumps on him hard.
- 52:03Love this because every time Chris interjects, gets the
- 52:08question or ends up a. Notch More.
- 52:10He doesn't actually respond to what Chris is saying because
- 52:14like, at one point Chris is like, should you be telling me
- 52:17this? And he's like, yes, I did commit
- 52:19vigilante. Just dude.
- 52:20Yeah, he's like, all right, I followed the axe murderer, you
- 52:24know, two weeks into a job is whenever I've experienced that
- 52:27shit. So it was pretty traumatizing.
- 52:29I took my shotgun, blasted him, didn't tell anybody about it,
- 52:32buried him in the backyard and that is where the sorority
- 52:37mother's. House Mother's cottages.
- 52:39Yeah and yeah. Perfect timing to cut to the
- 52:43house Mother's cottage. She's sitting there.
- 52:45She OK I guess this would be my second bad with the movie.
- 52:50This House Mother's way too sober.
- 52:53She is, yeah. That's not how house mothers are
- 52:55supposed to be. You're right that if he's doing
- 52:58the tropes, he missed this. One, yeah, but she's in there
- 53:01with her dog and then all of a sudden there's a blasting
- 53:04through the floor and it's the body of the axe killer I.
- 53:06Fucking love that dude. He acts as through the floor and
- 53:09then just arises. That is so cool.
- 53:12Yeah. And like, they act like you see
- 53:15him split her head and it's a good effect.
- 53:18Yeah, it was really well done. The cops are called to the
- 53:21cottage. Basically they're like, oh, the
- 53:23the dog ran out as soon as we got here.
- 53:26And that upset Talia. And this is she was like, that's
- 53:29not that's not loyalty. And.
- 53:31This is where the dude's super excited.
- 53:33Like man, she's chopping at so many pieces.
- 53:35Like if we use a stretcher for each piece we we wouldn't have
- 53:37enough stretchers. Yeah, and like, so Tom Atkins is
- 53:42like, OK, axe murderer right here, right where I buried then
- 53:44axe murderer. What's fucking happening?
- 53:47Meanwhile to the patrol, Cops are going back on patrol and as
- 53:51they're driving they see the zombie X murder.
- 53:55Of that. Shot and I love that I've pilot
- 53:57in Yeah, I love because other movies, again, they would have
- 54:00just had these cops he killed and then we've got like the
- 54:02zombie X murder. That's what I thought was gonna
- 54:04happen. I thought they stop and he was
- 54:05gonna go over there and axe his head off or something.
- 54:07But no, they drive off and they call it in.
- 54:10The cops strike him down. Tom Atkins strikes him down and
- 54:13they got him cornered in an alleyway.
- 54:14And this is where he like pulls a shotgun on him and he's like,
- 54:17that's the. Fucking thing.
- 54:18They all just blast. It's fucking Scarface, you know?
- 54:24And then they shoot him in the head.
- 54:25And then of course his head explodes and springs go.
- 54:28Everywhere. So JC never came back to the
- 54:30dorm. And Chris got us a tux now.
- 54:34But Chris has a tux, he's got a Chris Hodge.
- 54:36And then we got to getting ready montage.
- 54:39Yeah, for formal, the girls. Are getting ready, the bubbies
- 54:41are roughhousing and Chris is all by him, lonesome.
- 54:45Man, poor Chris. But he spots a tape recorder on
- 54:49J CS desk with a note that says listen and he hits play and it's
- 54:53JC who still had some of his mind when he was on the fight.
- 54:57He's like, I don't have a heartbeat.
- 54:59He's like I walked on my own. Yeah, that's fucking ridiculous
- 55:02right now. Like, I found out that fire
- 55:06kills them, so I'm going down to the furnace room and if I don't
- 55:11make it out, it'll at least burn them down there.
- 55:13And then Chris panics and runs down there and just finds
- 55:16Jaycee's body on the floor, collapsed.
- 55:19I was really hoping that maybe, maybe he survived because we
- 55:23don't see damage to his head. Oh, dude, yeah, You know, maybe
- 55:27they're setting that up, but maybe they just didn't go
- 55:30through with it. So oh God.
- 55:36I got Brad is bombed. Oh, he's bombed because he's
- 55:39like loaded. He's fucking wasted because he
- 55:41found out that Cindy is going to the formal.
- 55:44He is so fucking drunk and he is just like harassed, like outside
- 55:50trying to plan to harass her. Dude, I like out, but the dog
- 55:55comes by and then like he sees a slug and he like kneels down.
- 55:59He looks over at the dog and says did you fucking see that?
- 56:02Like I like how he has a moment. He shares the moment with the
- 56:04dog. And then I like that the dog's
- 56:06response is to open his mouth and shoot a slug.
- 56:09It's very much Talia when she threw up a leaf at me one time.
- 56:12Yeah, Yeah. And she went, That's how dogs
- 56:15do. That's how dogs do.
- 56:17So we get Zombie Brad. He knocks on the door to the
- 56:21sorority house and the girl's like, Cindy, Brad's here for
- 56:25you. And like, apparently nobody's
- 56:28actually looking Brad in the eyes because his eyes are rolled
- 56:30in the back of his head. He looks like a fucking.
- 56:32Zombie. They all fucking hate him.
- 56:34I know and Cindy, they've. Only been putting up with him
- 56:36because him and Cindy are dating.
- 56:37And Cindy doesn't want to make eye contact with him.
- 56:39She just walks by him slowly and grabs his hands and leads him to
- 56:42the steps. And they sit down together.
- 56:44And she's like, look, Brad, like, I don't know what to tell
- 56:47you. Like it's just, it's been weird.
- 56:51And then she looks over at Brad and we get Chris there with Ray.
- 56:56Yes, so what's been going on while Cindy's been having this
- 56:59talk is that it's important Chris went and told Ray what was
- 57:02on the tape. Ray.
- 57:04Ray had taped up his doorway and left his gas oven running and
- 57:10open. Fucking dark, man.
- 57:12That like that blue dark, because I didn't know know what
- 57:15was happening at first because we've, you know, he's been
- 57:17obviously depressed and dealing with like PTSD shit.
- 57:19From this whole. Incident but like that shot of
- 57:22him, like when Chris came there and told him what was going down
- 57:25and you see him like get his like trench coat and he's
- 57:27getting a shotgun and stuff. But like the zoom, like slowly
- 57:30into the oven, like, oh, he was fucking killing himself and goes
- 57:34over there and turns it all off and then boom, man, that was
- 57:37dark. So yeah, he's got, he's got a
- 57:39purpose again. He's like, all right, we're
- 57:41going to go get these motherfuckers.
- 57:43So they go and they get the the flamethrower from Dick Miller.
- 57:48Like we said before, his requisition is fantastic.
- 57:51I will love that scene, so good. And then a third thing that's
- 57:54happening as all this is going on is that the frat boys are in
- 57:57their bus. They swerve to avoid the dog,
- 58:00and they crash into a tow truck. Who is going to tow the bus away
- 58:04now? You know, it's unfortunate, but
- 58:10it had to be done for the dog. Even if it's a zombie dog.
- 58:12Yeah, still has to happen for the.
- 58:14Dog trolley problem and that's the correct answer it still
- 58:16applies to. I know there's supposed to be no
- 58:18correct answer to the trolley problem, but that's the correct
- 58:21answer. Yeah, that if you throw a dog
- 58:23into the equation, it's it's the correct answer.
- 58:26That's the correct. Yeah, I don't know why I started
- 58:28talking like that. All right, so now throw.
- 58:31A dog into the aquarium, it's like.
- 58:35I felt very smart and it made me very refined temporarily.
- 58:39Are you considering science now? Well, I mean, everything's
- 58:42science, apparently. So yeah, it's.
- 58:43Science. So you get it.
- 58:44Yeah, I guess I do. All right, so we're now tied
- 58:47back in. We now are at the front steps of
- 58:50the sorority house again. And then Chris and Ray show up
- 58:53and like, hey, look out fucking zombie behind you.
- 58:55And they blast his head and then, yeah, so it's like a 1-2
- 58:59punch. Ray has the shotgun, Chris has
- 59:01the flamethrower. So they just like flame the
- 59:03slugs right away. Ray goes inside to help the rest
- 59:08of the sorority women and Chris get.
- 59:10That bad ass line. Yeah, and he's like, good news,
- 59:14your dates are here. Bad news, Bad news, there's
- 59:17zombies. Fucking awesome.
- 59:19And Chris gives Cindy the flamethrower.
- 59:23She's like, you'll feel better with this.
- 59:25So they are, you know, fighting the beta zombies as they're
- 59:28approaching the house. And we've got like moments
- 59:31inside, too, because the studious sister, I don't know
- 59:34what her name is, I just keep writing her as the studious one.
- 59:37She goes to close maybe. Yeah, whatever.
- 59:40She goes to close the same door that has always been an issue.
- 59:44She stay away from this story because it's just bad.
- 59:46Stuff that happens, yeah, one of them blasts through and this is
- 59:50fucking badass Tom Atkins moment cuz he takes his cigar out,
- 59:54grabs a can of Hairspray from one of them and just makes a
- 59:58little mini flame. I love that so much, yeah.
- 1:00:02And then she turns into a zombie and tackles him.
- 1:00:05He's like reaching for his gun. This is a nice little struggle
- 1:00:07there. And he looks up and he sees the
- 1:00:09old composite photo with Pam in it.
- 1:00:12Oh, yeah. And that gives him the strength.
- 1:00:14I wrote that he shoots through his trauma in this moment.
- 1:00:17He does, man. He gets on a little Dolly and
- 1:00:19he's doing the spins and he's just just fine.
- 1:00:21It's like handgun everywhere in a big circle.
- 1:00:24Yeah, it's effective. It is.
- 1:00:26So Chris and Cindy have defeated all of the ones that they can.
- 1:00:30The pilot light goes out in the God damn flamethrowers.
- 1:00:33So they run and they hide in the little garden shed.
- 1:00:36But the garden shed is flimsy. So whatever extra budget they
- 1:00:39had for this scene, it was I don't know if to build a good
- 1:00:42shed it. Was also a terrible plan because
- 1:00:44like me even Chris is like why the fuck did we do this?
- 1:00:46Because they're cornered in this weak ass little thing they're
- 1:00:48busting in. She takes the flamethrower
- 1:00:51directly to the head of one of the zombies and just explodes
- 1:00:54it, which is really fucking awesome.
- 1:00:55Yeah, he takes a lawnmower and then just like, mows one of the
- 1:00:58other zombies, and that's also awesome.
- 1:01:00And then they see a bunch of the slugs going towards the basement
- 1:01:03and he's like, what the fuck would they want in the basement?
- 1:01:06And me, you and Cindy all at the same time said, Oh no, it's the
- 1:01:10brains. And this is fucking nasty.
- 1:01:13So like they go into the house. Which, OK, I was making the
- 1:01:17science jokes today, right? But apparently I made the joke
- 1:01:20in my notes 2 days ago because I wrote science brains.
- 1:01:24Aren't all brain science brains, Jesse?
- 1:01:27I don't know, have you heard yourself talk sometimes?
- 1:01:30Well, man, that may be the exception.
- 1:01:34Yeah. OK, so Chris and Cindy go into
- 1:01:36the house. They're like, all right,
- 1:01:37everybody out and they clear the house and they go down to the
- 1:01:41basement and they just see Ray down there with the cast
- 1:01:43canister just like throwing things like gas around.
- 1:01:47He's got a piece of duct tape over his mouth.
- 1:01:50And he's just smart. I get out, Yeah.
- 1:01:53And then eventually he was like, you guys need to go.
- 1:01:56He's like, I got this, I'm doing the right thing.
- 1:01:58Counting down from 15, it's like 15, 14 and then Chris gets he's.
- 1:02:02Counting down from 30. Whatever, man.
- 1:02:05Half that. He's saying.
- 1:02:07Either way, he's counting down and they get the message.
- 1:02:09They're like, OK, we got to get the fuck out.
- 1:02:11He's going to blow himself up. He found the cost this time.
- 1:02:13You know, he's killing himself in a way that is it's.
- 1:02:16A sacrifice. Yeah, so they make it outside
- 1:02:18the house and he boasts it up. The house goes kaboom.
- 1:02:23Yeah, and they were all watching the fire.
- 1:02:26And they kiss. They share a kiss.
- 1:02:28Finally. Chris and Cindy not like the
- 1:02:30whole crowd, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:02:31And I think we still get the dog walk up, but it's not a zombie,
- 1:02:35it's still a zombie dog. But I don't think they're aware
- 1:02:37that zombie dog. Yeah, instead, the version we
- 1:02:41watched, it cut to a very, very crispy ray that was walking down
- 1:02:46the. Street.
- 1:02:47You know, I didn't think at first it was like a zombie
- 1:02:49version of him. I was like, man, did he like, is
- 1:02:51he Michael Myers? I was like, wow, that's got
- 1:02:53hurt. So I was going through my head.
- 1:02:55I was like, that skin will just like peel off.
- 1:02:58Head cannon. This is like his transformation
- 1:03:00in the Loomis. This this universe is Loomis.
- 1:03:03He's got the scars. This is going to be Halloween 4
- 1:03:05Loomis. He's going to be off the rails.
- 1:03:07Well, he would be, if it weren't for the fact that he's about to
- 1:03:12collapse and his head pop open into a bunch of brand slugs.
- 1:03:16There's still a chance. Yeah, and it happens to be right
- 1:03:19next to the cemetery and they all crawl there.
- 1:03:23You get the flash from the UFO. Cuz I got a little spotlight,
- 1:03:26yeah. And then just the giant
- 1:03:28spaceship just flies over the cemetery.
- 1:03:31And that's how the movie ends. God I fucking love this movie.
- 1:03:35Yeah, it's a lot of fun. I'm keeping a 9.75, I think it's
- 1:03:39real strong. I'll make it a 9925.
- 1:03:44I like this. I like this movie a whole.
- 1:03:46I'm glad that we watched it. So new average 9.5.
- 1:03:49What is one thing you would change to bump it up even more?
- 1:03:53I would have kept JC. I get that you need to have them
- 1:03:57like, be like you. You got to have characters that
- 1:04:00can go to give it some like. It's that classic trope of like
- 1:04:05he it stakes, but also like that's what's going to push
- 1:04:09Chris's character arc. He needed that.
- 1:04:11Yeah, he he did need that. It's kind.
- 1:04:13Of like when we watched fuck, what was it?
- 1:04:16The What's the 1999 movie? There's not the movie.
- 1:04:21No, the 1:00 where they're at the house where we watched it
- 1:04:23not that long ago. It's on New Year's Eve.
- 1:04:29Oh Y 2. KY 2K yeah, and all of that.
- 1:04:32He needed his best friend to die so.
- 1:04:34He could. I always like what the fuck?
- 1:04:35And you're like, it's part of his character.
- 1:04:36Like Jesse? He needed to do.
- 1:04:39He needed the strength. Yeah, no, you're right.
- 1:04:41He did. Like he can't have Jason in your
- 1:04:43life forever. You got to sometimes learn how
- 1:04:45to do it yourself. And that's what he does.
- 1:04:46You're right, it is necessary. But like I said before, I would
- 1:04:49have more dance. I would have like had them like
- 1:04:51the zombie scratch the dance. Yeah, I.
- 1:04:53Think that would have been cool that.
- 1:04:54Would have been fun, yeah. There's not much I would do with
- 1:04:57this movie. I mean, this movie does a lot
- 1:04:58well. A fun moment too, where they're
- 1:05:00like checking IDs or whatever at the door for like the ones that
- 1:05:03are of age and like one of them like walks past and it's a
- 1:05:06zombie and the bouncer's like, hey, hold on a second, and then
- 1:05:08the zombie like. His head busts.
- 1:05:12Up right in front of him does something like that, yeah.
- 1:05:15No, I like I would the way that this scene would happen.
- 1:05:18He like hands in the ID and then he like looks at the ID and then
- 1:05:21like the camera pans down and it's the head split open and
- 1:05:24he's like that doesn't look right.
- 1:05:26This isn't the same guy. This is a fake tell you.
- 1:05:30What's happening? She she let out a series of
- 1:05:33boofs. Boofs.
- 1:05:35She boofed. She boofed.
- 1:05:37She let us know. She was like, I'm on alert, but
- 1:05:40I like this movie. I don't want to disrupt it, but
- 1:05:44I'm going to boof at it because it's scary.
- 1:05:47Yeah, and like animals are being affected.
- 1:05:50Yeah, like they are being killed and they are being zombies.
- 1:05:52That's stakes for her. That's true.
- 1:05:54This movie had sticks for both of them.
- 1:05:56Cats. And dogs, yeah, and even with
- 1:05:58the black cat, like Zoe and Talia have entered an alliance
- 1:06:01now. They used to fight the most
- 1:06:05because Zoe had she had a potty situation that resulted in an
- 1:06:10emergency bath dude. That's why Scout's been so
- 1:06:13pissed lately, because. She doesn't have anyone on her
- 1:06:16side. Yeah.
- 1:06:18Scout's been in the mood here lately, and she's just been
- 1:06:20angry. She's been grumpy.
- 1:06:22Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:06:24So I think, like, on top of seeing the dog, she also saw the
- 1:06:27cat be zombified. And she was just like, man,
- 1:06:30these stakes are too high. So I think Talia really enjoyed
- 1:06:33this. I think she did too.
- 1:06:34I think she would give it. I think you should give it an 8
- 1:06:401/2. OK.
- 1:06:41Yeah. And Zoe's Ultimate Warrior is
- 1:06:44the cat that was Zoe in this movie.
- 1:06:46Yeah. I mean, she related.
- 1:06:48So after that. Yeah.
- 1:06:49Yeah. OK.
- 1:06:51OK, now. Who did you relate to?
- 1:06:55I who did that relate to? And obviously I related to the
- 1:07:02scientist doing science things in the science building.
- 1:07:06I guess I would relate to JC in the sense that the only reason I
- 1:07:12rushed to fraternity was because a friend of mine wanted to not
- 1:07:15do it alone and I went ahead and rushed with him.
- 1:07:21Plus to meet all the women. That was true too, but.
- 1:07:26Look how that worked out for you it.
- 1:07:27Worked out fantastic. Yeah, you were my Cindy.
- 1:07:31Yeah. And the The funny thing is that
- 1:07:34friend didn't even do it. They packed out of it halfway
- 1:07:39through. So yeah, that, that that's what
- 1:07:41I would relate to. What about you?
- 1:07:46Oh, are you using science? Yeah.
- 1:07:47Yeah, OK. If you want the serious answer,
- 1:07:49probably Samantha because. Studying and having the cat,
- 1:07:53yeah. OK, because I probably wouldn't
- 1:07:55have gotten through grad school without Scout judging me as I
- 1:07:58worked on statistics. That's true, you do have
- 1:08:01problems with doors. Also that.
- 1:08:06OK, dream sequel. OK.
- 1:08:11I like your idea of picking back up with Tom Atkins.
- 1:08:14Yeah, man, I mean, bring him back.
- 1:08:17They've been wanting like the cast has been wanting them to
- 1:08:20do, and nine of the Creeps too, for a while.
- 1:08:22OK. So yeah, so we we pick back up,
- 1:08:27we got to go like another 27 years in the future or whatever.
- 1:08:31How do you do that though, man, with the way that things left
- 1:08:33off, you can't just like let it marinate that long.
- 1:08:36I mean, it kind of does in the movie anyways.
- 1:08:37Like the outbreak happens, but they catch it and they preserve
- 1:08:40it and then it is unleashed again.
- 1:08:44So like. OK, so let's assume that they go
- 1:08:48with the theatrical cut as last ending.
- 1:08:51OK. So the dog is shooting the slugs
- 1:08:54out. They take out Cindy.
- 1:08:56I want both to be Canon though. Yeah.
- 1:08:59Like we see that, but what I mean the whole thing with.
- 1:09:01Him maybe that's where we pick up.
- 1:09:03Then like we see the dogs, they're freaking out because the
- 1:09:06dog has spit out the slug at Cindy and they're dealing with
- 1:09:08that, and then they learn that there's also slugs at the
- 1:09:10cemetery and they've got to go fight all of the zombies in the
- 1:09:14cemetery. I, like, kind of do like a
- 1:09:16Return of the Living dead thing where like just they're looking
- 1:09:19for a place for like the secret refuge and they go to the
- 1:09:21cemetery. Yeah, You guys are like, there's
- 1:09:23just nobody alive there. That would be such a dumb
- 1:09:27decision knowing that like it can bring back the dead.
- 1:09:30I don't think some of them know that though.
- 1:09:32I think some of them just think they're just like zombies, like
- 1:09:34just random like killer people or whatever.
- 1:09:36Yeah, so if we kill off Cindy and Chris, then we don't have
- 1:09:41anybody there that knows that it's gonna.
- 1:09:43Raise Dead 2 and Raise Dead He could come back as a zombified
- 1:09:45version. And that's what I'm saying like
- 1:09:47we can still keep the cast there cuz they come back as zombies.
- 1:09:50I would like them to like, regain their humanity and have
- 1:09:53JC do the same. Like JC we never saw like, you
- 1:09:57know, like he could have gotten up and like, something could
- 1:10:00have happened. I don't know.
- 1:10:01Maybe the aliens, like the good aliens from the opening.
- 1:10:05I come back and they're like, hey, like they, they have like a
- 1:10:08cure. I don't know.
- 1:10:10I don't know. They're aliens.
- 1:10:11Yeah, the far aliens come back. They've got a cure for the
- 1:10:13brain's legs. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:15And it's like a. That's what.
- 1:10:16That's what the light was, dude. So we have like 2 factions, we
- 1:10:19have the bad aliens and the good aliens and they like have their
- 1:10:22own like army like human people and then they like have their
- 1:10:25own war. In the battlefield is a
- 1:10:27cemetery. I love it.
- 1:10:29There we go. There we go.
- 1:10:30OK, we got him. Hit us up.
- 1:10:32Fred Decker. Yeah, baby.
- 1:10:35OK. And tag on.
- 1:10:39OK. Classic Atkins.
- 1:10:43So classic spanky. Putting the science Science
- 1:10:46fiction. That's what we're doing, Yeah,
- 1:10:57It makes sense if it was like a song type thing.
- 1:10:59But the ear worm that'll blow your mind?
- 1:11:01That's what I was like, trying to think of like something like
- 1:11:04that, but it's not. It's not an ear worm.
- 1:11:06Yeah, all the college classics, formals, hazing, slugging
- 1:11:12contests. That's a long tagline.
- 1:11:16OK, I think you could probably make that work.
- 1:11:18I would just have to do it with the formatting to have it on the
- 1:11:23side. I'm not gonna come up with
- 1:11:25anything better. Than that so you.
- 1:11:26Know, let's just do that. That's fine.
- 1:11:28I mean, we got slugs and it's college, so we got chugging, so
- 1:11:31it just feels like we need to find a way to make that work.
- 1:11:34Yeah. OK, there we go.
- 1:11:35We got it. All right, all right.
- 1:11:37Time for reviews. Yes, all right.
- 1:11:40I panicked. For a second.
- 1:11:41I was like, I didn't get reviews.
- 1:11:42And then I remembered this wasn't my movie.
- 1:11:43This is me. All right, Let's see.
- 1:11:47So I wasn't sure where you were on this movie.
- 1:11:50So I got one that was kind of middle of the pack.
- 1:11:52The five out of 10 on IMDb reviewed in September 2020.
- 1:11:56So somebody was looking for something to do during COVID.
- 1:12:00Certainly watchable, but not an outstanding horror comedy.
- 1:12:04Is the title Strange why? I've actually never gotten
- 1:12:07around to watch The 19 The 1986 Night of the Creeps, especially
- 1:12:10since I love zombie movies and I always watch a lot of horror
- 1:12:13movies and grew up on horror movies.
- 1:12:15Regardless, I was given the chance to sit down and watch
- 1:12:18Night of the Creeps and now in 2020 and I was aware of the
- 1:12:21movie by its title, I just never had the opportunity to watch it
- 1:12:24before. So how was it?
- 1:12:26Well, none of the Creeps from the writer and director Fred
- 1:12:29Decker was watchable for sure, but this was by no means an
- 1:12:32overly outstanding movie. It proved entertaining enough
- 1:12:35for what it was, a semi cheesy mid 80s horror comedy movie.
- 1:12:39However, the movie just failed to deliver that necessary punch
- 1:12:42to make it memorable. It was actually fun to watch
- 1:12:45Jason Lively in a movie such as this, as I have only been
- 1:12:49familiar with him from the National Lampoon's Vacation
- 1:12:52movies. And with this being a mid 80s
- 1:12:55movie, of course you had a familiar face such as actor Tom
- 1:12:58Atkins in the movie. The special effects in the movie
- 1:13:00were actually rather good, especially for a movie from 86.
- 1:13:03I will say that the effects actually still hold themselves
- 1:13:06up even now in 2020. All in all, Night of the Creeps
- 1:13:09turned out to be a mediocre movie experience for me.
- 1:13:11It was watchable, yes, but it just hadn't those particular
- 1:13:15ingredients to make it truly unique.
- 1:13:18I am rating Night of the Creeps and Mediocre 5 out of 10.
- 1:13:21I don't know. I think it's fine.
- 1:13:23I think it does have the punch. I think it does too.
- 1:13:25I think it just has to like, it has to be your type of movie,
- 1:13:30you know what I mean? I guess that's true.
- 1:13:31I guess you have to be like a particular type of person to
- 1:13:34really fully appreciate what it's doing.
- 1:13:38Yeah, I mean, like, well, I mean this person says like that's the
- 1:13:41type of movie that they like. So I don't know, maybe it just
- 1:13:44doesn't have for some people. I think it also could be one of
- 1:13:46those ones like it's hyped up a lot by people and maybe it's
- 1:13:49just one that doesn't meet the expectations that some people
- 1:13:52said. I guess that can also be a thing
- 1:13:54that. I had to.
- 1:13:55Sorry. Yeah.
- 1:13:55I hadn't really said anything about this movie to you.
- 1:13:57I just like. We're gonna watch Night of the
- 1:13:59Creeps. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:01And going into blind, I was very, like, pleasantly
- 1:14:04surprised. Yeah, if I'd heard it was one of
- 1:14:07the best, like, cult movies of all time.
- 1:14:09Which I don't think anybody's even saying that, but like,
- 1:14:12people are just like, it's a fun movie.
- 1:14:13It's a good movie. And, you know, I don't think,
- 1:14:16like, if that's the reputation it has to live up to, I think it
- 1:14:19does a great job. It meets that expectation.
- 1:14:22And I don't know, depending on who you are, like us, it might
- 1:14:25exceed that. Good, great movie.
- 1:14:27Yeah. It's a really fantastic movie
- 1:14:29for us. Yeah, OK.
- 1:14:31But yeah, I mean, special effects, I agree.
- 1:14:34I mean, they had a hell of a team on this.
- 1:14:36They had some of the all time greats of that era of horror
- 1:14:40movies. They were talking about that.
- 1:14:42I guess it kind of reminded me of like hearing the Tremors.
- 1:14:45Yeah, special effects team talking about it because they're
- 1:14:47like, we were in like a period of that industry where they
- 1:14:50like, they let us do what we wanted to do.
- 1:14:53Yeah. Like it was like a hot thing.
- 1:14:56People were able to like, do practical effects and like, you
- 1:14:59can get like silly with it and stuff too.
- 1:15:01And it's like, it's different today.
- 1:15:03Today we get show like Anaconda. Anaconda was in 1997 dude.
- 1:15:08That is. A modern movie.
- 1:15:10Well, I know, but like only like that was like a decade later,
- 1:15:13you know what I mean? It's.
- 1:15:14Kind of Anaconda is closer to Night of the Creeps than it is
- 1:15:17today. Don't hurt me.
- 1:15:21Oh, man. OK.
- 1:15:22All right. Oh, now it's time for a list of
- 1:15:25reviews. Yeah.
- 1:15:26Yeah, Yeah, you did put out a call for those.
- 1:15:28I did, yes. And I did get one.
- 1:15:30It was from Cube saves. OK, who says this movie rules
- 1:15:34ass? And then he followed up because
- 1:15:39we're talking about Tom Atkins and he says he has an action
- 1:15:42figure and it comes with a can of beer.
- 1:15:45Yes. That's my favorite.
- 1:15:48Fucking thing that's perfect if you're.
- 1:15:49Gonna give Tom Atkins an accessory.
- 1:15:51It's either gonna be a shotgun or a beer, or preferably both.
- 1:15:55Yes. But that is amazing.
- 1:15:57I love that. That's beautiful, Yeah.
- 1:16:00OK, All right, so that's it for Night of the Creeps.
- 1:16:04Like we said this Sunday, we're gonna be doing our to be or not
- 1:16:06to be? Don't know yet what that what
- 1:16:10we're covering and then next week we are doing our Patreon

- 1:16:20that's. Right.
- 1:16:20We're skipping 2, going straight to three.
- 1:16:22We'll come back to two eventually.
- 1:16:24We can do this. Shit, we happened to just like
- 1:16:26we picked it up at Half Price Books and we're like, oh shit,

- 1:16:36working out. Yeah, OK, so right now you can
- 1:16:39watch Urban Legends Bloody Mary on Pluto TV for free, or you can
- 1:16:44rent it from YouTube, Google Play, Fandango at home or Prime.
- 1:16:47OK, cool. So why not just do the free
- 1:16:49option? Yeah, if you like ads.
- 1:16:51I mean, if you can tolerate ads, at least you know it's there.
- 1:16:54It's a worthwhile price to pay or go check your local half
- 1:16:57price. Books or a library or a library.
