Latest / Learn Danish with Fexingo / Danish at the Library - Asking for Help
Transcript
- Lucas: Hey, Luna, ready for another little Danish session? Luna: Yes! But I'm still thinking about that library episode — I keep forgetting where the books are. Lucas: That's actually perfect. Today, let's practice asking for help at the library. A really useful phrase is: Kan du hjælpe mig? Luna: Kan du hjælpe mig? That sounds like 'can you help me?' Lucas: Exactly right. Say it once more. Luna: Kan du hjælpe mig? Lucas: Perfect. Now if you're looking for a specific book, you can say: Jeg leder efter en bog. That means 'I am looking for a book.' Luna: Jeg leder efter en bog. I can imagine saying that to a librarian. Lucas: Yeah. And if you need something more specific, like history books, you can say: Hvor finder jeg bøger om historie? — 'Where do I find books about history?' Luna: Hvor finder jeg bøger om historie? That's a long one. Lucas: It is, but break it down: Hvor finder jeg — where do I find, bøger om historie — books about history. Try it slowly. Luna: Hvor finder jeg... bøger om historie? Yeah, I got it. Lucas: Good. Now the librarian might answer: Det er på anden sal. Meaning 'It's on the second floor.' Luna: Det er på anden sal. Second floor, got it. Lucas: Or they might say: Bøgerne står på hylden. — 'The books are on the shelf.' Luna: Bøgerne står på hylden. That's nice and specific. Lucas: Exactly. So let's imagine a little scene. You walk up to a librarian and say: Kan du hjælpe mig? Luna: Kan du hjælpe mig? Yes, I need help. Lucas: Then you say: Jeg leder efter en bog om historie. Luna: Jeg leder efter en bog om historie. Lucas: And the librarian says: Det er på anden sal. Bøgerne står på hylden til venstre. Luna: Det er på anden sal. Bøgerne står på hylden til venstre. Okay, I think I can do that. Lucas: You'll do great. You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Danish, these episodes stay free because of listener support. If today was useful, you can buy me a coffee at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it's a nice way to keep the show going. I love that we can do this. Lucas: Anyway, back to our library. Let's practice one more time. Imagine you're at the library and you need help. What do you say first? Luna: Kan du hjælpe mig? Lucas: Perfect. And if you're looking for a book? Luna: Jeg leder efter en bog. Lucas: And if it's on the second floor? Luna: Det er på anden sal. Lucas: You've got it. Great job today, Luna. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. This was really helpful. See you next time! Lucas: See you! Practice these till we chat again.
