Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So the US blockade of Iran's ports underway in the
- 0:03Speaker 1: Straight of horn Moves, although the US Navy won't enter
- 0:06Speaker 1: This is according to a former defense official, won't enter
- 0:09Speaker 1: the Straight of hor Moves because they might get lobbed
- 0:11Speaker 1: with grenades and all sorts of mines from speedboats. But
- 0:17Speaker 1: they are going to blockade the ports in Iran, and
- 0:21Speaker 1: any Iranian fast attack ship caught trying to approach the
- 0:24Speaker 1: blockade will be immediately eliminated. That's the latest from Trump.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Henry Els, an American polster in Washington Post columnist, joins
- 0:29Speaker 1: us this morning, Henry good a good day. It's a
- 0:33Speaker 1: bit of It's a bit of a whack a mole job,
- 0:36Speaker 1: isn't it. When you've got all those speedboats, sixty percent
- 0:39Speaker 1: of the fast boat capability of Iran still in play.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, but then you've got the question of
- 0:46Speaker 2: the American aircraft carrier that the You know, you've got
- 0:49Speaker 2: forty eight planes and a lot of helicopters that can
- 0:52Speaker 2: help do that over time. If they really do try
- 0:55Speaker 2: and challenge the Americans with that, they'll find that the
- 0:59Speaker 2: knee that's in the area can sink those ships pretty quickly.
- 1:04Speaker 1: What do you think the chances are of these piece
- 1:06Speaker 1: talks getting back on track.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Not very high. The fact is, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard
- 1:13Speaker 2: CORP is in charge of Iran, and there's a reason
- 1:18Speaker 2: the word revolutionary is in their title. These are people
- 1:21Speaker 2: who are committed to the expansionary goals of the regime,
- 1:24Speaker 2: and if they were going to satisfy Trump's bottom line
- 1:29Speaker 2: condition for no nuclear program removal of the enriched uranium,
- 1:33Speaker 2: they probably would already have done it. I think Trump's
- 1:36Speaker 2: going to have to rely on the continued pressure on
- 1:39Speaker 2: around both military and economically through the blockade, to force
- 1:44Speaker 2: some sort of reduction in power by the IRGC before
- 1:48Speaker 2: he gets anywhere with the negotiations.
- 1:49Speaker 1: What a voters in the US thinking, well, we know
- 1:51Speaker 1: what they're thinking about the war and how they're feeling
- 1:54Speaker 1: about it. Does that restrict Trump's military options? Does he
- 1:57Speaker 1: go back to bombing?
- 2:00Speaker 2: I think Trump may eventually have to go back to bombing.
- 2:04Speaker 2: The fact is that while gas prices, Trump has already
- 2:11Speaker 2: committed orkin prestige and his personal prestige to the ending
- 2:15Speaker 2: of the nuclear program. You know, He's been very clear
- 2:17Speaker 2: about this in this campaign years before. You can find
- 2:21Speaker 2: tapes of him going back forty years. Donald Trump always
- 2:25Speaker 2: signals what he wants out of a negotiation, and if
- 2:29Speaker 2: you accept that then there's always good terms. But what
- 2:33Speaker 2: he wants is an end to the nuclear program permanently,
- 2:37Speaker 2: and he gets it. He's going to continue what's at
- 2:40Speaker 2: his disposal, and that does include bomb and potentially a
- 2:43Speaker 2: lands invasion.
- 2:45Speaker 1: How comprehensive was all Bonds Allband's loss, I should say
- 2:49Speaker 1: in Hungary you've been the covering it.
- 2:53Speaker 2: It was massive, I mean, and it is from having
- 2:57Speaker 2: two thirds control to having under third of the parliament.
- 3:01Speaker 2: They've lost virtually every constituency in the country, places that
- 3:05Speaker 2: they never thought they would lose. You know, it's hard
- 3:08Speaker 2: for me to think of a New Zealand parallel. It
- 3:12Speaker 2: would be akin to I suppose Judas Collins being wiped
- 3:16Speaker 2: out in twenty twenty, the Red power being able to
- 3:21Speaker 2: change the constitution. Yeah, on this case, it was a
- 3:26Speaker 2: It was a green and red tsunami. Those are the
- 3:29Speaker 2: colors of peace at the opposition party.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Good to have you on as always, Henry Elson, who
- 3:33Speaker 1: is an American columnist in Pulsta For more Familiarly edition
