- 0:34What is going on, everybody?
- 0:35Welcome.
- 0:36It is lunchtime.
- 0:38Time to get that break from the workday.
- 0:39Hang out with friends.
- 0:41Talk about all things in
- 0:42sports entertainment,
- 0:43specifically CrossFit.
- 0:46We are here.
- 0:47We're going to throw a dart.
- 0:51Oh, shit.
- 0:53Not good.
- 0:54Missed the dartboard altogether today.
- 0:57That's kind of how my Monday has gone.
- 1:00so um there we go um jake
- 1:05new new member new member
- 1:07new member they show jake
- 1:10what's going on man um lots
- 1:15of people in the chat you
- 1:16guys are here early today
- 1:17corey amanda yawn trent olive
- 1:24Vicky, Jay Birch, John, Jose, Jody, Jeff,
- 1:29Craig, what's going on, everybody?
- 1:34John George,
- 1:35when are the ladies coming on
- 1:36for Recap Debrief?
- 1:39I think, like,
- 1:40Carolyn flew back last night
- 1:42and started the school year today.
- 1:45Like, she gave herself no break time.
- 1:49Like, took the silver medal yesterday,
- 1:52hopped on a plane,
- 1:53landed in Toronto last night,
- 1:56and then started teaching
- 1:57this morning for the
- 1:58beginning of the school year.
- 2:00That is...
- 2:03That is crazy.
- 2:06Jamie's son started college today,
- 2:09so she drove back to Michigan.
- 2:11He was there at the competition with her.
- 2:13They get him back, get him settled,
- 2:15and off he goes to college today.
- 2:18So both of them,
- 2:19that's what master's life is, man.
- 2:21You compete, and then, bam,
- 2:23you're right back at life.
- 2:26Life just smacks you in the face.
- 2:28There it is, and away you go.
- 2:33So, yeah, that is rough.
- 2:36How am I feeling?
- 2:38Well, I didn't do the eight workouts,
- 2:39so I feel okay.
- 2:41But it's a lot of stimulus, right?
- 2:46It's a lot of stimulation
- 2:47and a lot of people to talk
- 2:50to and a lot of people and
- 2:52a lot of things going on.
- 2:53A lot of just people.
- 2:56And I'm generally an
- 2:58extrovert and I get my energy from that.
- 2:59But, man, after a weekend like that,
- 3:01I am...
- 3:02pretty well like whooped so
- 3:08did the show last night
- 3:09didn't think I had the
- 3:10energy to do more than
- 3:11thirty minutes ended up
- 3:12doing ninety that's just
- 3:14the way you guys get me
- 3:15fired up and yeah crazy and
- 3:22went back to work this
- 3:23morning and I had to get a
- 3:25couple of trainings done.
- 3:26Like by the end of this week, one was, uh,
- 3:31aggressive,
- 3:33what they call that aggressive
- 3:34threat training.
- 3:36That one went pretty quick.
- 3:37It was just a quick, twenty minutes,
- 3:39same video I've seen the last seven years,
- 3:41just had to get through it
- 3:42as a check the box.
- 3:44And then they just brought
- 3:45out this business etiquette training.
- 3:48Oh my gosh.
- 3:51Like it is,
- 3:51I'm only like a third of the way through.
- 3:54It is so damn remedial.
- 3:56I can't believe we actually
- 3:58have to train people how to
- 4:00not be a dick.
- 4:02That is exactly what this training is.
- 4:04It is taking the phrase,
- 4:05don't be a dick and turning it into a big,
- 4:09long training.
- 4:13And it is rough.
- 4:15I'm having a hard time getting through it,
- 4:17but I need to,
- 4:18I just need to get through it today.
- 4:23Imagine being Rich Froning.
- 4:24I cannot imagine being Rich
- 4:26Froning at a CrossFit event
- 4:29and being just mobbed the
- 4:31entire time I'm there.
- 4:33It's crazy.
- 4:34That would be just insane.
- 4:36I mean,
- 4:36I would be talking to Boz and he
- 4:40would get selfie requests
- 4:42nonstop while we were talking.
- 4:45I'd be talking to...
- 4:48carolyn should get selfie
- 4:49requests it's it's just
- 4:51crazy and I'm in rich
- 4:53froning that's like ten
- 4:55multiplier right um but I
- 5:03do have to say like my
- 5:06girls my girls that I hang
- 5:08out with every sunday night
- 5:10at the masters games they are rock stars
- 5:14The cheers for Jamie,
- 5:16every time she took the floor,
- 5:18felt like half the crowd,
- 5:21which was so cool to see.
- 5:23She deserves that so much.
- 5:26And then Carolyn Prevost,
- 5:28this athlete that's four
- 5:30times individual competitor,
- 5:32makes it to our first
- 5:33Masters CrossFit Games.
- 5:35Like, she was the hit of the media.
- 5:38She was the hit of all the fans.
- 5:40Like, everybody wanted selfies with her.
- 5:43Other competitors were
- 5:45telling me that she's their hero.
- 5:47It just was like this really cool...
- 5:50thing that they don't get
- 5:52normally um you know when
- 5:55when carolyn's mixed in
- 5:56with the other big elite
- 5:58athletes she's kind of like
- 6:00one of the forgotten ones
- 6:02and she'll even admit that
- 6:03to you and uh and the fact
- 6:08that that you come here and
- 6:10she's just a star it
- 6:14So cool.
- 6:15So cool.
- 6:16I was so pumped for them.
- 6:20It's awesome.
- 6:27I texted Jamie this morning
- 6:28and tried to tell her how
- 6:28much of a badass she is.
- 6:31And I'm sure she took that very well,
- 6:32Corey,
- 6:33because I know how she takes those
- 6:35from me.
- 6:40Dave showed up at the BCS
- 6:41Classic on Friday morning.
- 6:42We were all surprised.
- 6:44Yeah, he was here on Saturday, I think.
- 6:51And he came up and spoke to me.
- 6:55I don't know why I, I don't know.
- 6:57I guess I'm hard to forget.
- 6:59I'm not like your typical, uh, size shape,
- 7:03whatever, uh, in this space,
- 7:06but he always comes up and
- 7:07says hi whenever he sees me.
- 7:09Um, and I talked to him on Saturday.
- 7:11That was super cool.
- 7:12But man, that guy gets mobbed too.
- 7:14Uh,
- 7:15that's gotta be right at that rich
- 7:17froning level at some,
- 7:18at some kind of thing.
- 7:25Yeah, Jose, he was doing the same here,
- 7:27shaking everybody's hand.
- 7:36Did I do better than my Tyson video?
- 7:39Dave doesn't do that to me, man.
- 7:41Like, it's weird.
- 7:41Like, in the CrossFit space,
- 7:44I look at everybody as just, like,
- 7:45my friends that I've –
- 7:47because I've been in this space –
- 7:50Like I started CrossFit in
- 7:50two thousand eleven and I
- 7:52started volunteering in two
- 7:53thousand thirteen.
- 7:55So I've been around the
- 7:56athletes and I've been
- 7:57around Dave like several times now.
- 8:00So that stuff doesn't get me.
- 8:03like my NFL phantom does.
- 8:07Like when I talk about my Chicago bears,
- 8:10like I,
- 8:11that is a deep seated love since I
- 8:13was a young,
- 8:15young lad in Western Pennsylvania.
- 8:19And those guys get me more
- 8:23giddy than like anybody in
- 8:24the CrossFit space.
- 8:27The CrossFit space,
- 8:28I can sit down with anybody
- 8:30and have a chat, and it's really good.
- 8:33But, man, put me in, like,
- 8:35the other thing.
- 8:37I'm a wreck.
- 8:43We started the same year.
- 8:44Nice.
- 8:44Didn't know that.
- 8:44Yeah.
- 8:46Started... Yep.
- 8:59There are no clubs in CrossFit sport,
- 9:02so there won't ever be that
- 9:03same connection.
- 9:05I don't disagree with you, Jake, I think.
- 9:10Plus, I think at this point,
- 9:11like in CrossFit,
- 9:12even if it does explode at some point,
- 9:15like I'm embedded in it
- 9:16enough that I'm just a part
- 9:19of this culture.
- 9:21And maybe that's the difference too.
- 9:22Like CrossFit,
- 9:23you feel like you're a part
- 9:24of it because you do some
- 9:26form of it five days a week, right?
- 9:33So I just think that like
- 9:35because you feel a part of it,
- 9:38it's not like them at this level and you,
- 9:40even though it still is that.
- 9:43I don't know.
- 9:43It's just weird.
- 9:45Weird for me.
- 9:51But I get what you're saying,
- 9:52especially like, you know,
- 9:54the football clubs in Europe,
- 9:56like it's an insane connection.
- 9:59It's like that way in the NFL here.
- 10:03College football, same thing.
- 10:12How are you watching this
- 10:13weekend is very inspiring.
- 10:15Those people have careers,
- 10:16kids and real life issues
- 10:17and still are insanely fit.
- 10:20make a lot of sacrifice too
- 10:22and um that's I captured a
- 10:24lot of that in the video
- 10:25the interviews I did uh and
- 10:28I just talked to caitlyn
- 10:29right before I went on the
- 10:30air I think we're gonna try
- 10:32to get the first episode
- 10:33out by next tuesday so I
- 10:36was gonna do monday but
- 10:37that's a holiday here in
- 10:38the states so we'll do next
- 10:40tuesday and I'll it'll I'll
- 10:42release the first episode
- 10:43from this weekend uh then
- 10:50It was cool just to sit and chat with Boz.
- 10:52No pretense.
- 10:54Yeah, he's so approachable.
- 10:58He actually agreed to come on.
- 10:59I think I'm going to have
- 11:00him on the Sunday night
- 11:01show with us so Carolyn and
- 11:03Jamie can ask him questions
- 11:04and look for that in the
- 11:08next week or two.
- 11:15When I approached him, I had an agenda.
- 11:19I wanted to know...
- 11:22I wanted to know,
- 11:24did he really approve all
- 11:26these workouts that got put
- 11:28out this weekend?
- 11:30Because the story is that
- 11:32legends made them, they gave them to HQ,
- 11:35Boz reviewed them, and then they were,
- 11:38he gave feedback and then they went out.
- 11:43And I did ask him that straight up.
- 11:46And he said, yeah, they did,
- 11:48but there were some things
- 11:50that legends were adamant about,
- 11:52and they did not take the
- 11:56feedback from HQ.
- 12:00But they did have
- 12:01discussions about all of it.
- 12:06So...
- 12:11uh saxon agreed to come on I
- 12:14just have to get it
- 12:15scheduled now that the
- 12:16games are over both
- 12:18versions I train olive on
- 12:24the corey track trying to
- 12:25make masters when I turn
- 12:26fifty I watched bob have
- 12:35the audacity to say he
- 12:36thought the workouts were
- 12:37balanced on the wad prep podcast
- 12:39I said to boss straight up,
- 12:42there were no gymnastics.
- 12:44He said, there's two gymnastics workouts.
- 12:46And I said,
- 12:47one of them is after the cut and it has.
- 12:51And so you're not even there.
- 12:53Half the field doesn't even get to do it.
- 12:56And, uh, and then he looked at me like,
- 12:59yeah, you're, you're right.
- 13:01But I think he also was,
- 13:03he had to tow the company
- 13:04line a little bit as much
- 13:05as he wanted to say more.
- 13:07He was never,
- 13:08he was not going to say more.
- 13:16so maybe we get them on the
- 13:17show maybe we get a little
- 13:19more maybe we don't but hey
- 13:21we're gonna try and then
- 13:27yeah I'm gonna try to
- 13:31incorporate some more
- 13:32interviews into these lunch
- 13:34shows and if they can't do
- 13:36them at lunch I'll do them
- 13:37at other times during the day
- 13:39But with the way my work is,
- 13:40I can't do them during the workday.
- 13:42So I'm going to have to
- 13:43figure out evenings or
- 13:45something like that.
- 13:52So there we go.
- 13:59The big topic I wanted to talk about today,
- 14:01it's kind of a continuation.
- 14:03Well, first, I wanted to say that,
- 14:06so Corey, okay.
- 14:11Man, you keep changing the subject on me.
- 14:13Sled push on turf that
- 14:14looked suspiciously like carpet.
- 14:16So apparently,
- 14:18this was made by Surface Co.
- 14:21as a more consistent type
- 14:24surface to push sleds on.
- 14:27And it actually worked out great.
- 14:30for the first time ever in
- 14:32like a sled push race we
- 14:34did not hear any complaints
- 14:36about one lane was better
- 14:37than the other so I gave
- 14:42them because when I looked
- 14:43at it it looked like a
- 14:46carpet instead of turf but
- 14:50it ended up actually
- 14:51working very very well
- 15:03um john george no way as a
- 15:04community we need to flood
- 15:06dave's weekly review on the
- 15:08importance of hq taking
- 15:09back the programming or
- 15:11farm it out to someone like
- 15:12jr who knows what they are doing
- 15:25Uh, train all of,
- 15:27I did not see when they had to retape it.
- 15:31Um,
- 15:33but I did not see any complaints and I
- 15:36didn't see it not work.
- 15:38Right.
- 15:39So yeah, they may have had to,
- 15:41to reinforce it a little bit, but it,
- 15:44it never seemed to affect the race.
- 15:58so I know uh taylor was on
- 16:03uh savan last night talk
- 16:05giving his impressions uh
- 16:08as a coach and he talked
- 16:11about them not being
- 16:12allowed in with the
- 16:13athletes to warm up their athletes
- 16:15And that was the same last year.
- 16:17It was like that in Birmingham.
- 16:19The coaches had to stay on
- 16:21the fence line outside the barrier,
- 16:24whatever the hell it is.
- 16:26And only the athletes were
- 16:28allowed in the area.
- 16:30Now, this year,
- 16:31they were supposed to get more warm.
- 16:34Each floor had its own
- 16:35separate warm-up area.
- 16:38Now,
- 16:38what I didn't know until Taylor said
- 16:40it was a lot of the
- 16:42equipment never even got unboxed.
- 16:46and uh so they had to like
- 16:49get their own equipment out
- 16:50of boxes and that's crazy
- 16:56but I know a lot of it had
- 16:57to do with there being
- 16:59teens involved this year
- 17:02and with teenagers in the
- 17:03warm-up areas they didn't
- 17:05want just any willy-nilly
- 17:07person back in those areas and
- 17:14I get that.
- 17:15I totally get that.
- 17:16The team should be protected at all costs.
- 17:27Gosh, I just don't know.
- 17:29I don't know how you fix that.
- 17:31but I get what Taylor's
- 17:32saying from a coaching perspective.
- 17:34You want to warm up your athlete.
- 17:36You want to make the warmup
- 17:38area available to your athletes.
- 17:40And then, but then you have these.
- 17:42Fourteen, fifteen, sixteen year olds.
- 17:44In the,
- 17:45in there and they should be protected.
- 17:47So it's.
- 17:48Yeah.
- 17:53I get it.
- 17:54I get both sides of this coin.
- 17:56Aaron Frazier says protected
- 17:57from the coaches.
- 17:59Have you not seen all the
- 18:00documentaries on Netflix
- 18:03with the gymnastics coaches,
- 18:04with the wrestling coaches,
- 18:06with the doctors of the coaches?
- 18:12As much as I want to say
- 18:13these coaches are trustworthy,
- 18:17you can't afford one of them to not be.
- 18:29Then give the teens their
- 18:30own warm-up area.
- 18:32You could do that.
- 18:32There was a lot of space.
- 18:34They had a lot of extra
- 18:36space in the back to do that.
- 18:37They could have done that
- 18:38very easily and given the
- 18:40teens their very own warm-up area.
- 18:50Yeah.
- 19:03Do I know if they have DBs
- 19:05checks in the USA?
- 19:08I don't know what that means, Jake.
- 19:09I'm sorry.
- 19:12Okay.
- 19:13Yep, they do have background checks,
- 19:15if that's what you're saying,
- 19:17in most now bigger sporting stuff,
- 19:24but I don't think they have
- 19:25it for CrossFit.
- 19:32So...
- 19:34Yeah, so they have something like it,
- 19:36but I think it's more for
- 19:37organized sports,
- 19:39and I don't think CrossFit
- 19:40has hit that level where
- 19:42there's overall background
- 19:43checks on coaches.
- 19:47I think there is potential for it,
- 19:50but you'd have to have an
- 19:51organization that
- 19:53required... If you were to
- 19:55be a coach of an athlete,
- 19:57like CrossFit would have to say,
- 19:59if you're coming to the team games...
- 20:02or you're going to coach a teen athlete,
- 20:04you have to have this background check.
- 20:07CrossFit would have to
- 20:07implement that as an organization.
- 20:13That's the only way I could
- 20:14see that ever happening.
- 20:23And maybe it should.
- 20:25Maybe that is something that
- 20:27should happen and be implemented.
- 20:31Like, I like that idea.
- 20:36Yeah, Chris, you're right.
- 20:37They should do that immediately.
- 20:42If you're going to be a
- 20:43coach of a teen athlete,
- 20:45you need to have a background check.
- 21:05There were no teens last year,
- 21:07same policy agreed.
- 21:08There was the same policy last year,
- 21:10but the warmup area was, was much,
- 21:12much smaller last year.
- 21:14And they, they did not.
- 21:16The first day was everybody
- 21:19could go in there and they
- 21:21had to limit it to just
- 21:22athletes because there
- 21:23wasn't enough equipment and
- 21:25not enough space for everybody.
- 21:36No, photographers were not allowed in.
- 21:40I think even when the teens were there,
- 21:43they didn't allow phones in there.
- 21:49But it was an open area.
- 21:51I mean,
- 21:52you could take photos from the
- 21:54other side of the barrier.
- 21:58It doesn't make a lot of sense there,
- 22:00though.
- 22:04But
- 22:07From what I'm hearing is
- 22:08they're looking at coming
- 22:09back to the same venue next year,
- 22:11building a relationship with the city,
- 22:13building up more promotion from the city.
- 22:17And if you have all that extra space,
- 22:20then you could have
- 22:21separate areas for the team games,
- 22:23all of that kind of stuff.
- 22:28So, yeah, like all of this, I think,
- 22:30could be done.
- 22:31It just...
- 22:35I think everybody that runs
- 22:37these organizations are good people,
- 22:40but I think at the level
- 22:42that we're at now,
- 22:43they're not prepared to
- 22:46think about everything in place.
- 22:48And I don't think the
- 22:50forethought was there to say,
- 22:52let's have a separate teen
- 22:53warm-up area from everybody else.
- 23:05um uh jake when I qualify
- 23:11next year I want my coach
- 23:11to be able to be there with
- 23:13me there you go you need
- 23:14someone to hold that hand
- 23:15man all right so um
- 23:27The other things that Taylor
- 23:28talked about were that the community,
- 23:31the athletes,
- 23:32the spectators were like super awesome.
- 23:36And I could not agree more.
- 23:37It was a really cool area.
- 23:42to be you wanted to be there
- 23:44everybody was so cool to
- 23:46each other um everybody was
- 23:48just having cool
- 23:49conversations um everybody
- 23:51was polite um it really was
- 23:55a cool community atmosphere
- 23:58there and I echo everything
- 24:00he said the other thing he
- 24:01said the airbnb that him
- 24:03and bryson got uh he felt
- 24:06unsafe when he came outside
- 24:08I know exactly where they
- 24:09got their airbnb
- 24:12If you go just east of where
- 24:15the venue is here in Columbus,
- 24:18just east is like the old
- 24:20rich Jewish neighborhood
- 24:23from like the early days of CrossFit.
- 24:26They're not CrossFit, Columbus.
- 24:29But if you go just a tick too far,
- 24:32you go right into the hood.
- 24:36And they had to have gotten
- 24:38their Airbnb just there.
- 24:42Um, and it,
- 24:44it is a rough area of town for sure.
- 24:48But if you're down by the venue, it's,
- 24:50it's gorgeous.
- 24:52Like there, it,
- 24:53there's five hundred
- 24:54restaurants outside the door.
- 24:56There are tons of high end
- 24:57hotels and it is no Trish,
- 25:01not the old Jewish hood.
- 25:03There's the old Jewish section.
- 25:05And then right after that is the hood.
- 25:12Um, so yeah,
- 25:15but everything downtown was really,
- 25:16really nice.
- 25:20Yeah, Chris,
- 25:20they were definitely in the hood.
- 25:25Uh, so there,
- 25:27the other thing I want to
- 25:28talk about is this whole thing.
- 25:31Trish, Trish, Trish was mugged by a rabbi.
- 25:38Yeah, that's it.
- 25:46uh crystal hummer uh good
- 25:48event good venue great city
- 25:49but like last year need to
- 25:51work on improving the
- 25:52logistics I don't disagree
- 25:54on that um so last night we
- 26:02talked about how it like
- 26:04everything was expensive
- 26:06the tickets to get in were
- 26:07expensive there were great
- 26:09crowds but what I find I
- 26:13was laying in bed last
- 26:14night thinking about this
- 26:17and crossfit is this thing
- 26:22where you get to dangle a dream right
- 26:25You as an everyday
- 26:26CrossFitter can go to the
- 26:28CrossFit games in all of
- 26:30these age groups.
- 26:32If you're good enough,
- 26:33if you put in the work,
- 26:35if you make the sacrifice,
- 26:37you can get this dream of
- 26:39going to the CrossFit games.
- 26:41And so many people like Corey, like Jake,
- 26:46like whoever else said they
- 26:48wanted to go to the CrossFit games.
- 26:51And then you get sucked in, right?
- 26:54But then they make you pay
- 26:55for it over and over and over again.
- 26:59You want to go to the CrossFit Games?
- 27:01It's only twenty dollars.
- 27:02Sign up for the open.
- 27:03Wait,
- 27:04you made qualified for semifinals here.
- 27:07Here's another charge for that.
- 27:11Oh, you made it to the games.
- 27:13Well, hey,
- 27:13we need four hundred dollars and
- 27:15you can come to the games.
- 27:18Oh, then when you get here.
- 27:20By the way,
- 27:21if your family wants to see you,
- 27:23they have to pay two
- 27:24hundred eighty dollars to
- 27:25watch you this weekend.
- 27:27Oh, you have like ten family members.
- 27:29Well,
- 27:29that's like two thousand eight
- 27:31hundred dollars just to come watch you.
- 27:35So they dangle a dream.
- 27:37And they say,
- 27:38but you got to pay for that dream.
- 27:42Because we can't be creative
- 27:43enough to come up with alternative.
- 27:47Alternative funding sources.
- 27:53that there are revenue
- 27:55streams out there that are
- 27:57more creative than charging
- 27:59the people with the dream.
- 28:06And it's so shitty that we
- 28:08sit there and go,
- 28:10I want this dream.
- 28:12We're going to give you this dream.
- 28:15And the price for that is so immense.
- 28:19Oh, but then the prize money, sorry,
- 28:22we only have X number of
- 28:24dollars to give to you.
- 28:31It is all of these athletes
- 28:33sacrifice so much and they
- 28:36end up way in the negative.
- 28:38Even if they win the damn thing,
- 28:40they've lost so much money
- 28:42to go after this dream.
- 28:44And yes,
- 28:45there are tons that are willing to
- 28:47pay for it because it's the dream.
- 28:50You've given them the dream.
- 28:54So they're willing to pay for it.
- 28:59But then you charge them on top of that.
- 29:03The ticket prices are insane.
- 29:06Jake talked earlier in the
- 29:07show about these clubs, right?
- 29:10What do you see at all the soccer matches?
- 29:12You see people wearing the jerseys.
- 29:15NFL games,
- 29:16you see people wearing the jerseys.
- 29:19College football,
- 29:19people wearing the jerseys.
- 29:21We can't get an apparel
- 29:23company to make a jersey
- 29:24for an athlete to save our life.
- 29:28And when we did at the games,
- 29:30people were shoving each
- 29:32other to try to get them off the shelves.
- 29:38That's a revenue stream that
- 29:39we are letting die.
- 29:41I talked to Becca Voigt as
- 29:43she was checking in,
- 29:45and she said she was going to the game.
- 29:47This is her eighteenth
- 29:48appearance at the games,
- 29:49and she has so much stuff
- 29:51from the games that
- 29:53that she has to give some of it away,
- 29:55but she never gives away
- 29:56her jerseys because she said,
- 29:58nobody wants to wear a
- 30:00shirt with my name on it.
- 30:02I said, Becca, you are so wrong.
- 30:04So many people would wear a
- 30:06shirt with your name on it.
- 30:08Look at every NFL game.
- 30:10Look at every NBA game.
- 30:12The stands are full of
- 30:13people wearing shirts with
- 30:15other people's names on them.
- 30:22That's a revenue stream.
- 30:24And you just make a small
- 30:25percentage of that go back
- 30:27to the athlete.
- 30:28But find someone who's able to do that.
- 30:32And then we talked last night.
- 30:33Get people in the door.
- 30:35Don't charge two hundred and
- 30:36eighty dollars.
- 30:37Charge twenty bucks.
- 30:39Get more people through the door.
- 30:41And then your vendor village
- 30:42becomes more active.
- 30:47more active.
- 30:48That means the vendors get happier.
- 30:50And then when the vendors are happier,
- 30:53then they will pay more to be there.
- 30:56And then it just becomes
- 30:57this nice circle of revenue
- 30:59where you're not charging the dreamer.
- 31:02You're charging the people
- 31:03coming to make money while
- 31:05they're going for their dream.
- 31:12Jake's wearing David Beckham's underpants.
- 31:14There you go.
- 31:16That stuff is real.
- 31:18That stuff is real.
- 31:27Sabir and Kelly.
- 31:28Wearing a CEO shirt.
- 31:29Yes.
- 31:30We support the people we like.
- 31:33We wear shirts that show that support.
- 31:40It's
- 31:43I think the problem right
- 31:44now is we can't keep a steady sponsor.
- 31:47We can't establish a relationship.
- 31:51It's one year and done one year and done.
- 31:54We need to get,
- 31:55but yet CrossFit has their own apparel.
- 31:58And instead of focusing solely on now,
- 32:03listen, I love that pukey is back.
- 32:06I love that forging elite fitness is back.
- 32:08I love that, um,
- 32:12repetition is the enemy,
- 32:15or routine is the enemy.
- 32:17All that stuff back, super, super pumped,
- 32:19right?
- 32:20But they could make jerseys too.
- 32:24They could make jerseys.
- 32:25It's easy.
- 32:26So easy.
- 32:30So easy.
- 32:32But really,
- 32:33we need to get more vendors
- 32:35into the place.
- 32:36There was so much room to
- 32:37have a massive vendor village.
- 32:41And not only have we screwed
- 32:43the pooch and have smaller
- 32:45and smaller vendor villages,
- 32:47we are going less and less
- 32:49outside of the scope of
- 32:51CrossFit with those vendors.
- 32:55Do you remember when like KT
- 32:57tape was a thing and like
- 32:59rock tape was at every event?
- 33:01That wasn't a CrossFit thing.
- 33:03That was a sport thing.
- 33:05Why can't we get Icy Hot?
- 33:07You guys were joking last
- 33:08night that Icy Hot and
- 33:10Advil should be sponsors of
- 33:12the Masters CrossFit Games.
- 33:13Well, why not?
- 33:15Why not?
- 33:17They're putting out products all the time.
- 33:18They could have a booth in there.
- 33:20Are anybody reaching out
- 33:21outside of the scope of
- 33:24grips and booty shorts and
- 33:29shoes to get anybody into the venue?
- 33:41I don't know, Jake,
- 33:41but I can tell you I got
- 33:42real tired of seeing ads
- 33:43for Boulder Athlete all weekend.
- 33:47You put up the money,
- 33:48that's what you're going to see.
- 33:53And they had a really cool
- 33:54booth at the venue with
- 33:56cold tubs that they made
- 33:57available for every athlete,
- 33:59whether they were Boulder or not.
- 34:13Um,
- 34:17I've got an idea.
- 34:18The CrossFit affiliate where
- 34:19the athlete comes from.
- 34:20The open registrations go
- 34:21towards paying their
- 34:23registration fee for the games.
- 34:25There you go.
- 34:30I like Voltaren.
- 34:31Personally, really drives the boys away.
- 34:35There we go, Voltaren.
- 34:36That's a great one.
- 34:38Awesome.
- 34:46That is insane.
- 34:51A ten by thirty vendor space
- 34:52is listed at thirty five
- 34:53thousand five hundred.
- 34:56For which event, Crystal?
- 35:07Think how everyone thinks seeing U.S.
- 35:10Army and U.S.
- 35:11Border Patrol sponsors and
- 35:13Jake is in the Isle of Man.
- 35:15Like he could give two shits about that.
- 35:28Ten by ten space nine grand.
- 35:33We just need to bag Apple as
- 35:35a main sponsor.
- 35:36Yeah, probably not getting that either.
- 35:42This weekend,
- 35:43they were charging thirty
- 35:44five thousand five hundred.
- 35:46Now,
- 35:46the crowds were way up from Birmingham,
- 35:49way up,
- 35:50and probably the crowds were
- 35:51better than ever at a
- 35:53combined games for the
- 35:54Masters athlete portion.
- 35:58But we're nowhere near where
- 36:00you can justify thirty five five.
- 36:03no way no way uh u.s army
- 36:18and border patrol don't
- 36:19have ties with guys running
- 36:21the age group games
- 36:23wouldn't it be excellent if
- 36:24the kgb sponsored the games wow
- 36:30Nationwide is on your side.
- 36:31We were in the land of
- 36:33Nationwide Insurance.
- 36:35They have three towers
- 36:37downtown that are their headquarters.
- 36:40Why didn't someone reach out and say, hey,
- 36:42you want to support this
- 36:44event we have going on?
- 36:51Tristan Patrick,
- 36:51we were onto something with Monster,
- 36:53but everyone got upset about that.
- 36:55I know.
- 36:56I am not.
- 36:58It was water, people.
- 37:00It was water in a can.
- 37:11Corey, you say the Allstate.
- 37:12I lost you.
- 37:13There we go.
- 37:15The Allstate Insurance CrossFit Games.
- 37:17Nationwide Insurance
- 37:18Headquarters was literally
- 37:19across the street from where we were.
- 37:24Across the street.
- 37:41RFK would love the Masters games.
- 37:44We should do everything we
- 37:45can to get them there.
- 37:46There you go.
- 37:47See, that's thinking outside the box.
- 37:50That's thinking outside the box, right?
- 37:53It's not just taking the
- 37:54dreamers and charging them to death.
- 37:57It's finding other ways to
- 37:58attract people there.
- 38:05Dude, if it meant the athletes got paid,
- 38:07I would take my ass happily
- 38:09to the McDonald's.
- 38:10Twenty twenty six CrossFit games.
- 38:13All right.
- 38:13Well,
- 38:14you might be going over the edge a
- 38:15little bit.
- 38:24So I heard Bob say ticket
- 38:26sales were up four percent over last year,
- 38:28but that's garbage numbers
- 38:29because last year it was just masters,
- 38:31not teens.
- 38:32So the numbers should be
- 38:33high double digits.
- 38:36I will tell you,
- 38:38I was not at the team game,
- 38:39so I don't know what their draw was,
- 38:44but every heat,
- 38:48you could not... You had that...
- 38:51struggle your way to get to
- 38:53see either get a seat high
- 38:54enough over top of the
- 38:56crowd of fence sitters,
- 38:58or you had to burrow your
- 39:01way into the fence.
- 39:03It was every event was that way.
- 39:07Every heat on every floor,
- 39:12the sled push workout.
- 39:15I was so far away.
- 39:17off to the one side because
- 39:19I could not get in close
- 39:20enough to even get good
- 39:22pictures of Carolyn and Jamie.
- 39:31That's a great point, Aaron,
- 39:32because I thought about that.
- 39:34RFK could teach seminar and
- 39:35pushups and pull-ups not RFK, but like,
- 39:39why not bring in like the
- 39:40power monkeys and do seminars?
- 39:43If you would have seen the,
- 39:44and I know like Chris was there.
- 39:47I know some other people were there.
- 39:49If you were inside that venue,
- 39:50there was so much open
- 39:51space that wasn't being used.
- 39:54You could have run like
- 39:55little mini camps off to
- 39:57the side and done
- 39:59partnerships with like power monkey or,
- 40:01or have WOD prep do some demos,
- 40:04or maybe they did and I just,
- 40:06I didn't see them,
- 40:07but there was so much space.
- 40:09They could have held little
- 40:13instructional camps all over the place.
- 40:16And you could have partnered
- 40:17with people to do that.
- 40:19That's the outside the box
- 40:20thinking you have to get to.
- 40:22You have to make it more
- 40:24than just the events to
- 40:25bring people into the building.
- 40:28And the last thing I'm going to say is,
- 40:30The biggest vendor village
- 40:32every single year is Wadapalooza.
- 40:35And Wadapalooza on Thursdays,
- 40:37every single year that I was there,
- 40:41had a free day for the public.
- 40:43Thursdays were admission free.
- 40:45Anybody could walk in the
- 40:46doors and they had the
- 40:48biggest vendor village of
- 40:49anybody I've ever seen.
- 40:51Why is that?
- 40:52Because you could just walk
- 40:53in and the place was crowded.
- 40:55What are the complaints
- 40:56about Waterpalooza?
- 40:57Not enough seating.
- 40:59Couldn't get in to see the big event.
- 41:01So many people.
- 41:03Well, when you have that problem,
- 41:05you have a lot of vendors.
- 41:10So at least there's
- 41:11something you can go do
- 41:13when you can't get into the venue.
- 41:15Or in this case,
- 41:16nobody wants to watch the
- 41:17same event all day long
- 41:20through all the different age groups.
- 41:22Let the people who want to
- 41:23see that do that and have a
- 41:25robust vendor village with
- 41:27plenty of things to do for
- 41:29people to go do in the off time.
- 41:32And don't charge two hundred eighty bucks.
- 41:34Make it affordable.
- 41:36Make it affordable for a
- 41:37family to go check out what CrossFit is,
- 41:39to learn about CrossFit,
- 41:41to get better at CrossFit,
- 41:42all of those things.
- 41:59Put it on an island.
- 42:00There you go.
- 42:07Yeah, Rogue was just down the street.
- 42:12I don't know if it is more
- 42:13than three miles, Jay Rich.
- 42:16If it is, it's not much more.
- 42:21Jar Jar Binks says,
- 42:22last year the team games was abysmal.
- 42:25Yeah, the crowds were great.
- 42:27They sprinkled the teens in
- 42:29the middle of everything,
- 42:30and the crowds were full for everybody.
- 42:40I don't know if putting them
- 42:41all together in the same weekend works.
- 42:44Honestly, George, I don't.
- 42:47I don't mind it making it a
- 42:48festival and doing it all
- 42:49in the same week.
- 42:51But I think you have to
- 42:52separate out the masters
- 42:53and the teens from the elite.
- 42:56And we still have the
- 42:57adaptive we have to think about.
- 42:59And the adaptive,
- 43:00they probably love that
- 43:02it's separate now because
- 43:03instead of having five
- 43:05divisions at the games,
- 43:07they have sixteen divisions
- 43:08and can cover more people.
- 43:16Jake is just hitting below the belt now.
- 43:18The CrossFit Games twenty
- 43:20twenty six sponsored by Metfix.
- 43:24Maybe by then they'll be
- 43:24able to tell us what they are.
- 43:33uh so many comments sorry
- 43:38guys fergie I believe I
- 43:42totally agree it needs to
- 43:44be more of a festival like
- 43:45waterpalooza masters and
- 43:47teens are not high drawing
- 43:48events but bringing the
- 43:49community to make a fitness
- 43:50celebration and you get the
- 43:52best of both worlds I do I
- 43:54agree the same week makes sense to me
- 43:59same week have the masters
- 44:00and teens go early in the week.
- 44:02They finish up.
- 44:03And immediately after that,
- 44:04the elites then go for the
- 44:06rest of the week.
- 44:08No crossover like they've
- 44:09done in the past.
- 44:10Just let it be one.
- 44:12And then the other.
- 44:28Crystal,
- 44:28those numbers she gave me stands
- 44:31corrected.
- 44:35The prices were for the Albany main event,
- 44:39not for the age group.
- 44:49Preach, sir.
- 44:50There we go.
- 44:55I mean,
- 44:55I do not give a damn about watching
- 44:57sixty plus year olds compete,
- 44:58but I would love a festival
- 45:00with interactive displays
- 45:01where all CrossFit could participate.
- 45:15I really enjoyed all the
- 45:17different divisions for
- 45:18their own uniqueness.
- 45:23I like the older divisions.
- 45:24I like the younger divisions.
- 45:26It's there.
- 45:27It's two different forms of CrossFit,
- 45:29but the races were good.
- 45:31And that's what I'm there for.
- 45:33I could sit there and
- 45:34critique movement and say
- 45:36that the younger ones move better or not.
- 45:40Uh,
- 45:40but what I love is if it's a race and
- 45:43you're giving a hundred
- 45:43percent and you're diving
- 45:46for the finish line,
- 45:48I've been entertained.
- 45:58lito on her way are you home
- 46:00yet girl uh hi all late to
- 46:02the party been napping on a
- 46:04bus uh vicky we have not
- 46:13talked about crossfit
- 46:15crossfit addressing the
- 46:16west coast rumor next year
- 46:17on ig we have not I don't
- 46:19have any additional
- 46:20information that was just a
- 46:22guy in new york saying that um
- 46:25So I don't know how much credence that has,
- 46:28but honestly,
- 46:30I just need some time to
- 46:31kind of regroup and get
- 46:33focused back on other stuff.
- 46:35And once I do that,
- 46:35I'll look into those types of things.
- 46:51T-Bird,
- 46:52what is the payouts for AG and
- 46:53Masters games?
- 46:55Holly just posted that again.
- 46:58She had run the numbers
- 46:59based on the percentages
- 47:01and did estimates to the payouts,
- 47:03and she posted it last
- 47:04night right after our show
- 47:05because that question got
- 47:06asked last night.
- 47:13Okay.
- 47:20Kelvin Hux, I attended.
- 47:21I would have been more
- 47:22inclined to buy from
- 47:23vendors if ticket prices wasn't so high.
- 47:26That makes perfect sense.
- 47:30So by gouging the families
- 47:34and making the dreamers pay,
- 47:37now you've got consumers
- 47:40not willing to spend money
- 47:42at the vendor booths that
- 47:43you're trying to attract
- 47:44sponsors and vendors to.
- 47:49Make it cheaper to get in
- 47:50people go shopping people
- 47:52go shopping vendors are
- 47:53happy vendors are happy
- 47:55vendors are willing to pay more money.
- 48:12um.
- 48:20Maybe your final events for
- 48:21age groups are Friday.
- 48:22Generally not as busy of a day for Indy.
- 48:25This also makes Friday super
- 48:26busy day for all vendors.
- 48:43Okay.
- 48:45Well, with that, guys,
- 48:46I am right up against my lunch hour.
- 48:50It's time for me to go back
- 48:51to how to be civil and
- 48:55don't be a dick in the
- 48:56workplace for probably
- 48:58another hour or so.
- 49:00And then I have some meetings.
- 49:03So that means you
- 49:03knuckleheads need to get
- 49:04back to work as well.
- 49:06I will see everybody
- 49:07tomorrow and I don't know
- 49:09what we'll dive into,
- 49:10but we'll find something with that.
- 49:13Have a great day.
- 49:14We'll see everybody next
- 49:15time on lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 49:18Bye.
