- 0:03Speaker 1: filling in for Craig Way as Craig is in Brooklyn
- 0:07Speaker 1: as right as the Texas Longhorns get ready to take
- 0:09Speaker 1: on Saint Joseph tonight eight thirty pm, Tip, eight pm
- 0:15Speaker 1: pregame right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Well,
- 0:19Speaker 1: the college football slate this weekend is jam packed with
- 0:22Speaker 1: impactful games. You have Old Miss in Florida, SMU and Virginia,
- 0:27Speaker 1: Massachusetts and Georgia, right, and of course Kentucky and Texas.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We all care about that game. And then I'm gonna
- 0:33Speaker 1: have one eye on how Texas A and M and
- 0:35Speaker 1: Auburn do. We're rooting for a war Eagle, right, That's right.
- 0:41Speaker 1: So the game that I care the most about this weekend, though,
- 0:44Speaker 1: outside of Texas Kentucky game because we have to, you know,
- 0:47Speaker 1: put the hand in the bar and get the job done,
- 0:48Speaker 1: win one game at a time, one to no, that's
- 0:50Speaker 1: the standard. The game I care the most about is
- 0:53Speaker 1: Indiana versus Ohio State. And you wouldn't have thought it
- 0:57Speaker 1: at the beginning of the year that this game would
- 1:00Speaker 1: have meant this much. It is the best season that
- 1:05Speaker 1: Indiana has had since nineteen sixty seven, when they finished
- 1:10Speaker 1: nine to two and shared a Big Ten title with
- 1:14Speaker 1: Purdue and Minnesota. Those are two teams you haven't thought
- 1:17Speaker 1: about in a while. Right Since then, they have not
- 1:20Speaker 1: sniffed a conference title. Now, Ohio State is doing exactly
- 1:25Speaker 1: what they were expected to do, which is win games,
- 1:29Speaker 1: not and one. The only loss coming out a one
- 1:30Speaker 1: point loss to Oregon. If Indiana beats Ohio State tomorrow
- 1:36Speaker 1: eleven am, kickoff on Fox. If Indiana beats Ohio State tomorrow,
- 1:40Speaker 1: the only naturally ranked team that's scheduled this year, it
- 1:45Speaker 1: closes this and closes the season against Purdue, they will
- 1:48Speaker 1: get to play Oregon in the conference Championship. The Big
- 1:54Speaker 1: Ten Conference Championship, which was invented like a decade ago
- 1:58Speaker 1: twenty eleven. Organs already clinched the spot. They already are
- 2:02Speaker 1: in their conference title game. If the Ohio State wins out,
- 2:06Speaker 1: they'll return of the Conference Saddle game for the first
- 2:08Speaker 1: time since the pandemic shortened season in twenty twenty, where
- 2:11Speaker 1: they will get to play Oregon as well. Ohio State
- 2:14Speaker 1: a twenty eight game winning streak against Indiana dating back
- 2:19Speaker 1: to nineteen ninety one. The buck guys get to host
- 2:24Speaker 1: this game and they are eleven point favorites at home.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Will Howard twenty four touchdowns, five interceptions this season. But
- 2:31Speaker 1: boy do I root hard for the Hoosiers this game.
- 2:36Speaker 1: And it's not so much for the players on the field.
- 2:39Speaker 1: They've been fun to watch. Indiana's had a couple of
- 2:41Speaker 1: fun games this season, but I am rooting for their
- 2:45Speaker 1: head coach. This is Kurt Signeki. Okay Sgeki has been
- 2:52Speaker 1: one of those guys this season that you wanted to
- 2:55Speaker 1: keep an eye on. He came from He came from
- 3:02Speaker 1: a long a long line of good coaching. Started his
- 3:06Speaker 1: career at IUP, goes to James Madison, competes for an
- 3:11Speaker 1: FCS title there, and since taking over Indiana has been
- 3:17Speaker 1: a lightning rod. This is This is him from media
- 3:20Speaker 1: day earlier this year. This is cut nineteen.
- 3:23Speaker 2: You know, normally at these things, I stand up here
- 3:26Speaker 2: and we're picked to win the league. It's just usually
- 3:30Speaker 2: how it's been. I have been picked next to last twice,
- 3:35Speaker 2: which we're picked seventeenth out of an eighteen team leg
- 3:39Speaker 2: and I get it. Just the two times we're picked
- 3:43Speaker 2: next last in twenty twenty two, we won the conference championship.
- 3:49Speaker 2: And in twenty seventeen we inherited an eight and forty
- 3:52Speaker 2: five team and won eight in a row and played
- 3:54Speaker 2: jam you the last game of the year for the
- 3:56Speaker 2: conference championship. Now, I'm not into making predictions. That's just
- 4:00Speaker 2: a historical fact. Okay. So I know you guys been
- 4:06Speaker 2: waiting for me to say something crazy that wasn't quite crazy.
- 4:10Speaker 1: So he has just signed a new contract as well.
- 4:14Speaker 1: It's an eight year deal, eight million dollars a year,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and he makes him one of the richest coaches in
- 4:22Speaker 1: college football. This is him on Big newon Kickoff talking
- 4:26Speaker 1: about his new contract last week.
- 4:30Speaker 2: What were some of the important elements that you wanted
- 4:33Speaker 2: included in that extension? Well, you know, honestly, they came
- 4:37Speaker 2: to me. They were very proactive. And you know, some
- 4:41Speaker 2: people say, well, you know, why would you do that
- 4:43Speaker 2: when you know this one may open, that one may open,
- 4:47Speaker 2: you know, and you're gonna be a hot commodity and
- 4:49Speaker 2: blah blah blah. And the fact of the matter is
- 4:52Speaker 2: we're the emerging superpower in college football?
- 4:54Speaker 1: Why would I leave? So he says that a little
- 4:56Speaker 1: tongue in cheek right. You hear him laughing at being
- 4:58Speaker 1: we're emerging superpower, because Indiana has not been a superpower
- 5:03Speaker 1: historically speaking. They are not the school that you think
- 5:07Speaker 1: of in the Big Ten to compete for titles. In fact,
- 5:11Speaker 1: you could go out on a limb here and say
- 5:13Speaker 1: they are like Purdue in a lot of ways, perdue
- 5:17Speaker 1: the Boilermakers. Good football program, but not nationally recognized as
- 5:21Speaker 1: a team that could win a national title.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 5:24Speaker 1: They are, by all accounts a basketball school that has
- 5:30Speaker 1: not been What Kurtzeneki has been telling guys this is
- 5:35Speaker 1: he has come in and immediately revitalize the program. And
- 5:39Speaker 1: this is what's great about college football. We always talk
- 5:43Speaker 1: about the parody of the NFL, and oh, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 1: it only takes two or three years for your team
- 5:47Speaker 1: to get good again and through the draft. College football
- 5:51Speaker 1: changes like that. It's on a dime. How quickly your
- 5:55Speaker 1: alma mater can change things up. I think about me
- 5:58Speaker 1: locally here in Tech.
- 6:00Speaker 3: GJ.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Kenny comes into Texas State after the amount of losses
- 6:05Speaker 1: that the Bobcats had faced. I didn't know if I
- 6:08Speaker 1: could ever love again. I didn't know if I could
- 6:09Speaker 1: ever have a head coach like that that could turn
- 6:12Speaker 1: things around. And look, he's already signed a new contract
- 6:14Speaker 1: all the way through twenty thirty one. He gets a
- 6:16Speaker 1: seven year extension in San Marcus. The reason that these
- 6:21Speaker 1: guys matter is because they want to be there, right
- 6:26Speaker 1: They want to be there, and they can convey that
- 6:28Speaker 1: to the players. They can go bring in good talent.
- 6:32Speaker 1: In Indiana's case, they're gonna go out this weekend and
- 6:35Speaker 1: play an Ohio State team that I think has the
- 6:37Speaker 1: most unlikable head coach in college football, and that's Ryan Day.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Like I like to know where lou Holtz is right now.
- 6:45Speaker 1: That guy Ryan Day, who's trying to fight lou Holtz,
- 6:48Speaker 1: the old man that's from last year's win against Notre Dame.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Lou Holts had some mean things to say about his
- 6:54Speaker 1: Ohio State Buckeye. So Ryan Day the big strong man
- 6:57Speaker 1: coming after him. But Dan Mullen, who is a good
- 7:01Speaker 1: head coach with a very good head coach in the SEC,
- 7:03Speaker 1: he was on fine Bomb yesterday talking about Indiana and
- 7:07Speaker 1: this game.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Give Indiana credit. They're undefeated. They won every game by
- 7:11Speaker 3: four king points or more. That's a pretty dominating thing
- 7:14Speaker 3: to do, and it's hard to come out and play
- 7:16Speaker 3: and perform at that level every single week. And I
- 7:19Speaker 3: know the schedule hasn't been very difficult. They'll get tested
- 7:21Speaker 3: against Ohio State. But I'll give you my breakdown moment.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Everyone says, if Indiana loses and they they don't play well,
- 7:28Speaker 3: they should be thrown out of the playoffs. Well, let's
- 7:30Speaker 3: flip it. Does that mean if Indiana wins, Ohio State
- 7:33Speaker 3: should be thrown out of the playoffs, because now we
- 7:35Speaker 3: might have Now we might have.
- 7:37Speaker 1: A big discussion of yeah, yeah, exactly. You go tell
- 7:41Speaker 1: an Ohio State Buckeye fan that that if they lose
- 7:44Speaker 1: this weekend with two losses, that they should get bumped
- 7:47Speaker 1: out of the college football playoffs. But along with them,
- 7:50Speaker 1: Penn State shouldn't be in the top five either. But
- 7:52Speaker 1: that's neither here nor there. We need to get both
- 7:55Speaker 1: of them out of there. You look at the way
- 7:57Speaker 1: that the Big Ten has been set up Oregon, Ohio State, State, Indiana.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Four of the top five teams in the last ranking
- 8:05Speaker 1: were teams from the Big Ten. That cannot stand. That
- 8:09Speaker 1: has to change. Texas gets the job done this weekend.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Indiana gets the job done this weekend. You're looking at
- 8:16Speaker 1: a top three that's going to be Oregon Texas Indiana,
- 8:20Speaker 1: and then Oregon and Indiana are going to play each other,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and then you have two teams, and let's go Indiana Hoosiers.
- 8:26Speaker 1: That is who we're rooting for. If you can't root,
- 8:29Speaker 1: if you have to root for a team to win
- 8:31Speaker 1: some games, why not the little basketball school with the
- 8:34Speaker 1: head coach who could. When we come back, we'll wrap
- 8:38Speaker 1: up the Craig Ways Show and we'll give you an
- 8:40Speaker 1: insight on who is going to get upset this weekend.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Next it's Andrew Zimmol filling in for Craig Way and
- 8:47Speaker 1: Craig Way Show on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The
