- 2:46com and Brosire for Heads and a couple of places where I'm getting some of
- 2:51these stories from. Let's get Bright into the Business SA, so recently Let's
- 3:00and Derry Breakdancing hip hop film Beat Street celebrated forty years forty years of existence.
- 3:13If you're too young to know, and maybe you never watched Beach Street
- 3:16at any point, you should check it out because as much as you hear
- 3:20people talk about the history of hip hop and or saying there are five elements
- 3:27to hip hop, is not just rapping. I know nowadays we think it
- 3:30is just about MCing and rapping. It's not. It's about graffiti artists,
- 3:36it's about breakdances, about DJing, obviously, it's about rapping, it's about
- 3:40the slang, it's about the fashion, and Beat Street was one of those
- 3:46films that gave you, along with wild style and breaking and stuff like that,
- 3:52gave you a look into that world at that time. And honestly,
- 3:59I think a daylight today, especially after that concert last night, I think
- 4:04people need to be reminded of what hip hop really is at its core,
- 4:11and it's about artistic expression in these various ways, you know what I'm saying,
- 4:17And it's the reason why it's the most popular genre in the world as
- 4:21far as you know, Let's streaming numbers tell it. So, you know,
- 4:27the fortieth anniversary of B Street comes up, and then some really dope
- 4:31news just happened not that long ago, which is crazy. This is coming
- 4:38from hip Hop dx dot com and says Nas. Yep that NOS teams up
- 4:44with Arthur Baker to bring Beech Street to the stage. Nas has played a
- 4:48key role in disseminating the craft and culture of rap to unique places, and
- 4:54he is now joining forces with a fellow industry veteran when a new thing production,
- 5:01so, let's say. On Friday, June fourteenth, the New York
- 5:06City native attended the fortieth anniversary screening of Beach Street at the Tribeca Film Festival.
- 5:13At the event, that'sco announced that he will be developing a stage adaptation
- 5:18of the nineteen eighty four movie about the early days of hip hop. In
- 5:23addition to taking on the role of producer, he will also work on the
- 5:28soundtrack. This is this is excellent, man. This is the type of
- 5:35stuff that should happen. This is being smart about the preservation of hip hop
- 5:42culture. Right. It's not just enough to have a museum, which we're
- 5:47gonna have in the Bronx pretty soon, an official museum, I should say,
- 5:54which I assume will have an official hall of fame. We hope but
- 5:59also, well, you know the different films and documentaries, and last year
- 6:02was fifty years in hip hop, and it feels like this is the perfect
- 6:09way to commemorate hip hop, to preserve it. Now, I probably would
- 6:15have chose Breaking, but I think Breaking focuses so much on the dancers and
- 6:23the pop lockers and the breakdancers. Beach Street is kind of all of it.
- 6:28So I get why that would be a play. And it has a
- 6:31storyline, you know what I'm saying, has an interesting storyline, so who
- 6:40knows. Now I would like it to be a musical. I ain't go
- 6:45from a musical would be dope because if you could watch musicals like what's the
- 6:51one joint? That man? We heard about it for years and I can't
- 6:57even remember Hamilton. There we go Hamilton, Right, that was a very
- 7:03dope idea and it worked. But this is something that is hip hop.
- 7:09And if you can have Rainbow, which is one of the characters rapping about
- 7:15you know graffiti and you know tags and the cops and like, this could
- 7:19be really dope. If done correctly and you get the right people to do
- 7:25it for theater, it could be huge, right, and I mean Broadway
- 7:30Tony Award winning Huge. That's how we're talking. So it's an excellent idea
- 7:36and I'm glad it's being done. So let's keep our eyes on that.
- 7:42If I'm still in the Tri State area, guess what, I'm coming home
- 7:47to watch it. Okay, but I'm here now, so hurry up.
- 7:51Nine. The Clips that being Push your T and Note Malice or male us
- 8:00back in the days, but he no Malice now have announced officially along with
- 8:07Pharrell, that a new Clips album is officially being produced by Pharrell and on
- 8:18the Way Now. This was in an interview with Vulture. Their last album,
- 8:26To the Casket Drop, which was pretty dope, dropped in two thousand
- 8:30and nine, which is crazy. That's a very long time ago. Here's
- 8:35a quote from pusha T. I think the album shows the supreme maturation of
- 8:41a rap duo. I think this is where you get the difference between taste
- 8:46and philip. The music is curated. This is a high taste level piece
- 8:52of work. You can only have that level of taste when you have the
- 8:56fundamentals down to a science. I think it's been definitely missing. Then there's
- 9:01the competitive aspect, so I'm not gonna read well, let's no math.
- 9:09Let's added. This is smart basketball. It's fundamentals, and not only that,
- 9:13it's authenticity. It's what rap should look like if you're real about your
- 9:20craft, real about your experience experience, real about your storytelling. It's bringing
- 9:26the fans along to see the growth, not trying to fit in or fabricate.
- 9:31I like the way y'all talking. I like the way y'all talking clips
- 9:35because, for one, when you say all of that, you better back
- 9:39it up. That's one. Two. I think if you just listen at
- 9:45the last two albums from push your t as far as that expertise and fine
- 9:52tune in something that's part of the reason why like Daytona and I forget the
- 9:58other one, the last last one likes some of these cats now be having
- 10:05like sentences for their albums. I don't remember. It's like it's hard,
- 10:07but it's wet, pause like I don't remember the name. Put it in
- 10:13the comment section. But I think in a lot of ways, the quality
- 10:20of those last two releases from him says exactly this, like you're no longer
- 10:26wet behind the ears in the rap game, trying to assert yourself, trying
- 10:30to find your footing. It's more of a I've established how good I am,
- 10:37my flow, how varied I could be in my flow, my beat
- 10:43selection, how all the songs come together. That's the curation part that he
- 10:46mentioned. All of this is about fine tuning and going down to every little
- 10:56detail of making sure it is as close to perfect as you can get it.
- 11:01And I like the sound of that. And I like the sound of
- 11:05that more so for a CLIPS album because truth be told, during the time
- 11:11of the Clips, No Malice was my favorite out the group and it and
- 11:16for those you internet dudes who once you say one guy is your favorite,
- 11:20that means the other guys whack. That is not true. I thought they
- 11:24were both crazy, but if I had to choose one, I resonated more
- 11:28with what what and how malice? Was Rymen or no Malice? Now was
- 11:35Royman like? He just I just thought he was dope. Like that song
- 11:37they got with Off the Till Till the Casket Drop album with with Cameron Uh,
- 11:46I forget the you know outside of Pope's e Jake in the Fries high
- 11:50at your Uncle, that one Malice verse on there is crazy. Go listen
- 11:58to it. So I am optimistic because I think even though we've heard him
- 12:09rohund now, I don't think he's whack because he's not that guy anymore.
- 12:16But I think what he needs to learn based off of his newer music as
- 12:20no malice. Talking about your past is what rappers do, so you're not
- 12:26necessarily promoting it by talking about what you used to do. Jay Z's built
- 12:35the entire career off of that, and he talks about what he does now.
- 12:37So I think if malice approaches it not from a standpoint of, you
- 12:43know, shaming it, but almost embracing it because of who you are to
- 12:48now now you know, like it's it's a part of your fabric. It's
- 12:54what Malcolm X did right, Like it's it's you know, I used to
- 12:56be this guy and now I found outledge yourself and now I'm this guy and
- 13:03this is what I used to do and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
- 13:07like being descripted because to me, that level of storytelling, I'm not at
- 13:15least me and fans who think like me are not from an error where if
- 13:20you're not doing all these things, then you're whack, because please please tell
- 13:26me that all these dudes are doing all these crimes, they saying they rhymes
- 13:31bars because at the end of the day, a lot of them would not
- 13:37be free. We see it happen. Bobby Schmurder thought it was cool to
- 13:41put some real stuff in bom You in prison fan? Right, ar Ad
- 13:46thought it was cool to be telling y'all blah blah blah, really do this,
- 13:50blah blah blah you in prison fan? Casting over two times yo yo
- 13:54yo yo, get in prison. That's that's not what the history of rap.
- 14:00The Cougie Rat beinfree. He done, had war with the mafia and
- 14:03everything on his record. Nobody takes anything away from Cougie Rat, and that's
- 14:09what his music has ever been about. He doesn't have to commit a crime.
- 14:13Hip Hop and rappers are also storytellers. So if no Malice approaches his
- 14:20lyrics similar to what he did when he was with the Clips, but more
- 14:24from an introspective standpoint, but still being descriptive about what it is and blah
- 14:30blah blah, you don't have to say this could happen to you now.
- 14:35I think it would be dope up against what we're used to hearing from Push
- 14:39your t because the only thing is with Push Your t he's good. I
- 14:46don't know what he's like without Coke Rhymes anymore. Right, He's become like
- 14:50the ambassador of Coke Rhymes right, way more than he was with the Clips
- 14:54as a soloist. That's what he is. And do I even want to
- 14:58hear him without him going there? I don't know. But at the end
- 15:03of the day, I think this could be some heat because there's a lot
- 15:09of things that's happened fifty years of hip hop, and especially this year.
- 15:15There's a lot of things that's happening that I could tell are inspiring hip hop
- 15:22heads old and new to care more about what they create. And it's all
- 15:30like we got ll back and sounding crazy. We got you know, Nas
- 15:35and Primo supposed to be working together, Pete and Pee Rock and Common sounded
- 15:39crazy, right, Like we had the Kendrick Gamar and Drake battle, which
- 15:45was a hip hop thing right, all the height behind that. It's just
- 15:50there's a number of things that have been happening and that are gonna happen,
- 15:54are gonna occur at least this year that I think will inspire a lot of
- 16:00people to create and do better, not really make music to feed the machine
- 16:06of business so they can stay rich, or they could keep their security around.
- 16:10But more so, do both create really dope music, because when you
- 16:15create really dope music, the rest or the money will take care of itself.
- 16:21It's all about it catching on with people. But if you can't catch
- 16:23on with people without a bitcoin or some kind of other thing to get them
- 16:30interested, they will never be interested. So hey, you have it.
- 16:34And lastly, so last night, right I'm missing the NBA. I'm like,
- 16:45oh well, let me just play, you know, playing a couple
- 16:47of games in my franchise in two k and then I start getting a couple
- 16:52of text messages from people, text messages, WhatsApp, you know, tweets,
- 16:59all kinds of stuff for about Kendrick, and everybody's assuming I know what
- 17:04they're talking about because nobody's using his name, like yo, he going in
- 17:08blah blah blah, And I'm like, what is but I forgot? Tonight
- 17:14is the PopOut concert. So Kendrick Lamar put on a concert basically called like
- 17:22Kenny and Friends or Kennon Friends, which featured a number of different sets like
- 17:27DJ Mustard and a couple other DJs, and they brought people out and all
- 17:30that. But obviously he closed out with his set, and I missed the
- 17:38earliest set, so I got to watch those, but I caught the very
- 17:42beginning of Kendrick Lamar's set, and you know, I turn it on,
- 17:48turn on Twitch and he's performing Euphoria, which, for those who don't know,
- 17:55is his first ficial Drake. This record that came out right like that
- 18:00was a verse that kind of drake dropped push ups and then Kendrick responded a
- 18:07little bit later with Euphoria, and then you know what happened after that The
- 18:12set was you know, he opened with Euphoria, but then he and the
- 18:18crowd was rapping along with it. Like first of all, everybody was like
- 18:22yo, he opening with Euphoria, so that was already crazy. Then he
- 18:27would perform some of his hits and then he did six' sixteen in LA.
- 18:34Now, just as a hip hop head, that's my favorite one because
- 18:38the beat along with how Kendrick is flowing. And when Kendrick did that joint,
- 18:45ab Soul came out, and I think he brought ab Sol out because
- 18:48around the time they dropped, there was this like viral not viral like that
- 18:56but video that was going around of Abs Souls singing the intro like it survived
- 19:03somebody line, I think somebody. So he had ab Sol do that part,
- 19:11which was a dope idea because not only is it a part of the
- 19:15song, but it also ties into what some people saw online at the time
- 19:21from ab Sol. So he performed that joint and then later he would do
- 19:26a number of songs that he brought out. He did basically a lot of
- 19:30joints. He brought out the TD rap fans, not so Sis, it
- 19:33wasn't there, but the rap dudes, black hippie dudes. Brought them all
- 19:37out. You know, Schoolboy Q was out there. Who else was out
- 19:42there? Jay Rock was out there. So he kind of you know,
- 19:45he did songs with them, brought him out. Now, he didn't do
- 19:48Meet the Grams, which I thought was I thought that was good because that
- 19:56disrecord, even though people love that dis record, that's probably the the etha
- 20:02of the competition between him and Drake. I don't know if that's necessarily a
- 20:07show song, because it doesn't work if you don't do all the verses,
- 20:12and then that's a long song to do all the verses in this way,
- 20:18and it's a very intimate diss record, so I was kind of glad he
- 20:23didn't do that. So he also brought out Doctor Dre, and Doctor Dre
- 20:30performed two songs like Still Dre and California Love, and I thought that was
- 20:37dope too, And I remember texting people like, yo, when he does
- 20:42not like us, this crowd, which was already crazy during the whole set,
- 20:48is going to go crazy when he finally hits that, So I'm thinking,
- 20:52how he gonna make that the last song? He did it six times.
- 21:00He performed that record in some ways six times for the sixth God Now,
- 21:07just to be clear, he didn't perform the entire record six times.
- 21:11He did two versions of it. The first version when he started, first
- 21:18of all, he had Doctor Dre say I see that people, which is
- 21:22crazy, right. Then he performs like the first second verse up to a
- 21:30minor, that part right, and he dwells on it in like dances right,
- 21:36and the crowd is still a minor like they still going with it.
- 21:41Then you hear I see that, and he did, and he does it
- 21:45again, but this time he lets the crowd do most of the rapping on
- 21:48the lyrics, and it kind of it was crazy. He stopped again on
- 21:53a minor did the dance, and then he did it again, but this
- 21:57time he did the whole song, which was crazy. And then I think
- 22:03on the fourth, fourth, and fifth time he started. I think by
- 22:11the time of the time he did it, he had already brought out all
- 22:17these people from LA, from NBA stars from LA like Russell Westbrook and Jamar
- 22:26DeRozan. Lebron was in the crowd, but he ain't from LA, so
- 22:30just stay your ass in the crowd. Uh, you played for the Lakers,
- 22:33so what uh? But he brought out all these people, you know
- 22:37what I'm saying, the mcs, you know, different sets, different blocks,
- 22:41all on stage, bloods, crips, all on stage, unified.
- 22:45He took this huge picture with them in the middle and when he performed it,
- 22:51performed the song for what I for what was basically the fifth time.
- 22:56It was amongst all these people who were dancing on the stage and it was
- 23:00so dope aause he was just walking through. Cameraman was on point because cameraman
- 23:06had like the perfect it wasn't chaotic shots of Kendrick. It was like that
- 23:12because you know, you could be bumping into people and lose Kendrick somewhere and
- 23:17in the crowd. But it was perfect because it was like he had the
- 23:21perfect amount of space. Even when he would give somebody a pound, he
- 23:25really didn't disappear within the crowd. And he's performing the song and they all
- 23:30dancing like the sea walk into all they was just it was all Cali up
- 23:36there. It was crazy, and then then it kind of broke out into
- 23:44like a little dance battle, and I kept thinking to myself, this is
- 23:48the blackest performance I've seen in a while, because this is like having a
- 23:52camera within a party. For those who don't really go to the club,
- 23:56whether it's now or in the past, or you've never been to a back
- 24:02club, this is when it's a good time at the club. No fighting,
- 24:07no nonsense, no nothing, like everybody is. Everybody there is just
- 24:14cool with each other and they don't really even know each other like that.
- 24:17It was just a dope display. And the sixth time was the fact that
- 24:21they just played the record or they played the instrumental as they were leaving out
- 24:26and Kendrick. You can still hear Kendrick saying some of the song. So
- 24:32it was obviously the entire show was more than that. But I think for
- 24:38that display, which was basically worldwide because yeah, the concert was happening in
- 24:47Inglewood, California. It was also on Twitch excuse me, Amazon Music,
- 24:56because you had they let people who react to things, they let them stream
- 25:00it while they reacted to it, because that's how I initially saw some of
- 25:03it, and then I switched over to Apple Music and some stuff on YouTube
- 25:08and stuff like that, not Apple Music, Amazon Music, and it was
- 25:14just it was a spectacle and it was another reason why he's in my top
- 25:19five all time. Right, he ain't got no whack releases, stop it.
- 25:26But also it shows how he continues to help carry help not the only
- 25:33one, but help carry the torch of hip hop in various ways, and
- 25:40not only a celebration of hip hop by bringing out people like Doctor Dre and
- 25:45he's not even on TD anymore, but bringing out his peoples from that way.
- 25:49He built his own stardom from TD performing all these different records, you
- 25:56know what I'm saying, from all his albums, but he's also celebrating black
- 26:02folk right our culture. And honestly that when he was performing and all those
- 26:08people were on stage and it wasn't just dudes. It was kids, it
- 26:11was women, it was all everybody. That was like a live Like if
- 26:18I had the bottle, because that's not the only thing, but if I
- 26:21had to bottle up what black culture is when it comes to camaraderie and celebrating
- 26:26and partying and having fun. That was a snapshot into what we mean.
- 26:32Those are the intangibles that Aubrey seem to try to manufacture but can't do plicate.
- 26:41I'm just saying, well, let me take that back. He can
- 26:45duplicated enough. Because don't get me wrong, I am still a Drake fan.
- 26:48I still bumping my stuff. So it is what it is. But
- 26:53it's a lesson, right, you can't when it's organic, it's a different
- 27:02feeling. So to all the online oh this guy was paid to play bots.
- 27:07Everybody does that. I'm pretty sure. I guarantee you because I saw
- 27:15it in real time when Family Matters and Meet the Grams, drop Meet the
- 27:19Grams, views and streams were going crazy, and I was like, damn
- 27:26that many people watching and listening if some of those were bots? Cool?
- 27:30Now, good reporting. I forget who it was. I think it was
- 27:36Double XL magazine When there was a screenshot of the payouts. The payoffs weren't
- 27:42necessarily coming from an LLC, so it was difficult to confirm that Kendrick or
- 27:48his team or his label paid this person for bots, because if you know
- 27:55anything about business, you can't just start making up names when you're sending money,
- 27:59like to do taxes and all that. So it need to be raal
- 28:02okay where the money's coming from. So even if it was real or not,
- 28:08Box is a part of the game. They'll podcast people who are on
- 28:12YouTube who pay for bots in order to push their views and their subscribers to
- 28:19a certain point where they meet the criteria of the algorithm. I don't do
- 28:26that, and that's why I need you to subscribe. I'm doing it the
- 28:30organic way, right. If you like what you like, subscribe. So
- 28:34it was a great show. You could still go and watch it. I'm
- 28:38probably gonna check out the earliest sets just to see what happened there. But
- 28:44again, the legend of Kendrick Lamar continues to grow. And after all of
- 28:51this, because that battle was a moment in history, and so was this
- 28:53show all this year, it's only right that at some point point, whether
- 29:00it's the summer or the fall we get the next album because honestly, it's
- 29:06about that time for him anyway. So it's crazy, but it's what we
- 29:11love. We love hip hop. What did you think of the show?
- 29:15Did you watch the show? Do you even care about it? Leave your

- 29:37I did a best Albums and EPs of twenty twenty four so far.
- 29:44If you missed that episode, check it out if you can find some hip
- 29:47hop in there. I know there's some people who I didn't include. I
- 29:51included because I ain't think it was successive. Yeah, but you never know,
