- 0:09Speaker 2: The world's a pigeon Podkay, Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Paul, you might not like this, but the nerds level,
- 0:21Speaker 3: some of the nerds level.
- 0:22Speaker 4: Not being discriminatory against the nerds them all. I grew
- 0:26Speaker 4: up in New England, and unlike you young folks, I
- 0:29Speaker 4: didn't grow up with nothing.
- 0:30Speaker 3: But championships five years of my left.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Or the ten d's in the commons.
- 0:36Speaker 5: Yeah, the slaps you guys are doing there.
- 0:44Speaker 3: You know, as an undersized Caucasian man, I I thought, oh, well,
- 0:50Speaker 3: Wes Welcome made it in the NFL, why can't I. Stupidly,
- 0:54Speaker 3: very stupidly, I really felt like if I worked as
- 0:57Speaker 3: hard as he did and I could do it, I
- 1:00Speaker 3: truly believe that that, like, oh, there's a path for me.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Like I look at this just so.
- 1:06Speaker 4: You know, we are revisiting this when this is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:13Speaker 2: You're right, Paul, we already visited. Boy. You guys had
- 1:17Speaker 2: a good time while I was away, huh and Deuce
- 1:20Speaker 2: was away?
- 1:22Speaker 3: It's true.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Yeah, what's the static? I'm here all right, what's going on?
- 1:26Speaker 2: I wanted to right off the bat, right off the bat?
- 1:29Speaker 6: I broke it?
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:31Speaker 4: Is that so much of a Hawaiian influence?
- 1:34Speaker 2: All right, well it is Thursday here at Jillette Stadium.
- 1:40Speaker 4: No, Evan and I held down the fort just uh,
- 1:43Speaker 4: just fine. We did.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Probably me.
- 1:47Speaker 6: No one did that. Yeah, no one knocked us off there.
- 1:53Speaker 6: I think we lost it.
- 1:54Speaker 4: But yeah, I think it is Fred's mike because I
- 1:57Speaker 4: don't hear the static anymore. Can you guys hear me?
- 1:59Speaker 2: Now?
- 2:00Speaker 6: I'll hear you good?
- 2:00Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so what you do without friend, just.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Keep moving that around. It doesn't really affect any warning
- 2:06Speaker 4: population whatsoever.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Thirty seconds in there?
- 2:09Speaker 2: Can you hear me? Yeah?
- 2:10Speaker 6: Okay, all right, now we're good.
- 2:11Speaker 4: All right, Hey, yeah, here we are.
- 2:13Speaker 2: What's going on with these connections?
- 2:15Speaker 6: It's much better now?
- 2:16Speaker 7: Yeah, now the show is rusty without us?
- 2:18Speaker 4: All right? Little better news?
- 2:20Speaker 2: Okay, when he got that, we got got in your lock? Right?
- 2:23Speaker 2: What news? It's Deuce Evan, Paul myself, Matt. What's happened
- 2:28Speaker 2: when you were away?
- 2:28Speaker 6: Eric?
- 2:29Speaker 2: What's the news? What's the news?
- 2:31Speaker 6: They resigned you on?
- 2:32Speaker 4: Bentley?
- 2:34Speaker 3: Hadn't that happens you guys talk about catch twenty Yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 3: we talked about it happened during catch twenty two.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Yeah, do you catch twenty two today?
- 2:42Speaker 6: Or is that vacation?
- 2:43Speaker 2: No, vacation doesn't vacations.
- 2:45Speaker 7: He golfs, but he does a vacate.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Wait.
- 2:48Speaker 6: So, Evan, you know I got a comment on the
- 2:50Speaker 6: on your thing though.
- 2:51Speaker 7: Because you said like you were How did you put it?
- 2:53Speaker 7: You were I don't want to say short, but what
- 2:55Speaker 7: was the word you use for short? You're on your
- 2:58Speaker 7: undersize understand size, but it's like, you know, but Wes
- 3:01Speaker 7: Welker's undersized, but he was overly athletic.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Athletic?
- 3:07Speaker 3: Okay, is that what you're trying to say? Deuce you
- 3:10Speaker 3: guys have fun?
- 3:11Speaker 4: Are you?
- 3:11Speaker 6: Were you overly athletic?
- 3:12Speaker 4: Though? That was the question?
- 3:13Speaker 2: Listen, I I like overly analytic, like I said last.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Week there, I was not going to sit there and
- 3:21Speaker 3: compare myself to I don't know Randy Moss, Like, why
- 3:25Speaker 3: would I do that? I had one one guy that
- 3:28Speaker 3: that looked a little bit like me and had a
- 3:31Speaker 3: path possible, and that was obviously Wes Welker, So I
- 3:34Speaker 3: would rock the eighty three West Welker Jersey all the
- 3:37Speaker 3: time to games, you.
- 3:39Speaker 6: Got like the real size and it looked perfectly normal.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah, exactly like I filled it out perfectly just
- 3:44Speaker 3: like he did. I had to say it was tightening
- 3:46Speaker 3: around that you.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Played Division one high I did the same thing.
- 3:50Speaker 6: I was just gonna play.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Division one baseball. Did you ever have any pro aspirations?
- 3:55Speaker 6: Well, that's I was just gonna say.
- 3:56Speaker 7: And like, I mean, yeah, I played college hockey, but
- 3:58Speaker 7: I was never close to playing NHL. But my whole
- 4:00Speaker 7: thought was, and it was not that much different than
- 4:02Speaker 7: what Evan's saying, because at my time when I was
- 4:04Speaker 7: playing hockey in high school, anybody who was six foot
- 4:07Speaker 7: four two hundred and fifteen pounds, as we're getting drafted,
- 4:11Speaker 7: like hal Gil had a pretty good NHL career.
- 4:14Speaker 4: He's not playing in NHL now.
- 4:15Speaker 6: But that was my whole thing.
- 4:16Speaker 7: I'm like, oh, if I was just six ' four,
- 4:19Speaker 7: I would get drafted. Meanwhile, I'm making the same mistake Evan.
- 4:22Speaker 7: It's like, you know, you actually have to be talented.
- 4:24Speaker 3: It doesn't really like I was bigger than Rayborn.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Fairness to you, hal Gil was a shoemaker.
- 4:28Speaker 7: He was terrible, and I think I said before he
- 4:31Speaker 7: lit me up in Summer League one time, I thought
- 4:32Speaker 7: I broke my job because he's so big, like his
- 4:35Speaker 7: elbow was just right into your face.
- 4:36Speaker 4: So I'm with you.
- 4:37Speaker 3: I guess listen, I was, you know, I think two
- 4:40Speaker 3: thousand and seven. I was probably thirteen or fourteen, so
- 4:45Speaker 3: I was still a kid, like I didn't know, you know,
- 4:47Speaker 3: what the difference was. And I really thought that I
- 4:51Speaker 3: mentioned in basketball the guy was JJ Riddick, Like I
- 4:53Speaker 3: was like, oh, here's like a six foot two sharpshooter,
- 4:57Speaker 3: really can't dunk, like, isn't super athletic, but he shoots
- 5:01Speaker 3: like forty five percent from three. So if I just
- 5:03Speaker 3: get really good at shooting from the you know.
- 5:05Speaker 7: I know exactly what routes to run every time, Like,
- 5:08Speaker 7: even if it's at a snail's pace, you're probably gonna know.
- 5:11Speaker 3: No, that's no, it didn't work out.
- 5:13Speaker 2: He looks to say, I just have to say. NFL
- 5:16Speaker 2: Network right now has a feature on Larry Zanka and he's,
- 5:20Speaker 2: you know, in a in a river with waiters fishing
- 5:23Speaker 2: for looks like steel nose, uh no, steel nose salmon
- 5:29Speaker 2: or whatever with a spinning reel, just like, come on,
- 5:33Speaker 2: you've got to be using a fly rod fishing. Yeah,
- 5:37Speaker 2: Oh it's not a weak time, big time, big time.
- 5:40Speaker 3: I just learned something I.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Just can't you know, I want to learn more about fishing.
- 5:44Speaker 2: You might as well just set grenades off and wait
- 5:46Speaker 2: for the dead fish to float up.
- 5:48Speaker 4: You know? Does that I don't. I don't know fishing.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Does that mean it's too easy to do it?
- 5:55Speaker 6: Easy?
- 5:56Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:57Speaker 4: I didn't get it untitally the grenades.
- 5:59Speaker 2: I mean, like if you if you're fishing for bass, okay,
- 6:02Speaker 2: you know, but if you're if you go, if you're
- 6:04Speaker 2: gonna have outfit yourself and the waiters and all this
- 6:06Speaker 2: stuff and stand in the river, you.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Can fish like a man.
- 6:09Speaker 2: You hat a fly ride, right, You would know. Ted
- 6:12Speaker 2: Williams would tell you the same.
- 6:13Speaker 6: I mean my grandfather would know. I don't know.
- 6:14Speaker 7: I'd love to try to fit fly fish. So that's
- 6:16Speaker 7: probably my life elements that I'd like to.
- 6:19Speaker 2: When you're fly fishing, that's all you're thinking about. Yeah,
- 6:22Speaker 2: because you.
- 6:22Speaker 7: Have to, because you have to watch the water nowhere,
- 6:25Speaker 7: and you got to make it kind of dance.
- 6:26Speaker 2: A little bit. You're constantly doing something. It's not like
- 6:29Speaker 2: you just sit and fish.
- 6:30Speaker 7: Your sounds a lot better than just I mean, both
- 6:33Speaker 7: have their merits.
- 6:35Speaker 3: But quiet time, time in the water, it's great.
- 6:38Speaker 2: It's great. Anyway, Sorry about that Larry's ankle. Well, I'm
- 6:42Speaker 2: staring right at it.
- 6:43Speaker 6: Well, they were they are the only undefeated team so
- 6:45Speaker 6: and I don't know if you've ever seen it.
- 6:46Speaker 4: I don't know if you've ever seen any features on that,
- 6:48Speaker 4: but I think that's what this this is on NFL
- 6:50Speaker 4: network is just the old NFL network. I did get
- 6:54Speaker 4: a chance before, Like last week during the fourth of July,
- 6:57Speaker 4: there was like a whole day of Patriots programming. We
- 6:59Speaker 4: had talked to about that too, when you guys were gone.
- 7:02Speaker 4: So they had all kinds of stuff. They had America's games,
- 7:05Speaker 4: they had you know, replays of games or your jobs.
- 7:08Speaker 6: But this week they look like.
- 7:09Speaker 4: They're showing some memorable Week one games just random. I
- 7:12Speaker 4: watched like a Dallas Washington game from ninety nine. But
- 7:15Speaker 4: you know what I got last night? You know what
- 7:18Speaker 4: I got last night, dude?
- 7:19Speaker 6: Which one? Which one? Nineteen ninety four we won Dan Marino.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Marino Bledsoe shootout thirty nine, thirty five loss for the Patriots.
- 7:28Speaker 4: But yeah, today it was the day that I knew
- 7:32Speaker 4: that Drew was.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Now that was your two.
- 7:34Speaker 4: It was week one of his second year, and if
- 7:39Speaker 4: not for kind of a fluky Ben Cots fumble, they
- 7:42Speaker 4: were going in to take the lead in the last
- 7:44Speaker 4: two minutes, just.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Like Nelson Aguilargins the Ravens last year.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Well, I mean you talk about it was kind of
- 7:50Speaker 4: similar to that fumble. Actually, right the other sideline.
- 7:52Speaker 7: Don't you feel like that's the game Mac Jones is
- 7:54Speaker 7: still looking for. That's the game of Like, yeah, it
- 7:56Speaker 7: kind of goes toe to toe with a guy, and
- 7:58Speaker 7: you know, even if it's a quarterback.
- 8:00Speaker 6: Q I was just going down the stown, you know.
- 8:05Speaker 2: But no, but it's a good point. I think we
- 8:08Speaker 2: are still looking for that game from Mac.
- 8:10Speaker 6: And in fairness, Drew lost.
- 8:11Speaker 7: No, No, but but even in right, like I mean,
- 8:14Speaker 7: but he showed he threw for four hundred yards and
- 8:17Speaker 7: four touchdowns.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah, he could go toe to toe with the passer
- 8:21Speaker 2: in his time, yeah, Marino, you know.
- 8:23Speaker 6: And and how was the connection with Ben Coates right
- 8:25Speaker 6: out of the gate though?
- 8:26Speaker 7: Was that something that was instant or was that something
- 8:29Speaker 7: that came on in the second.
- 8:30Speaker 4: No, like I think his first yeah, his first career
- 8:32Speaker 4: touchdown pass was to Ben Coates. Yeah, in ninety three,
- 8:36Speaker 4: Week one ninety three at Buffalo.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Speaking of man, what do we make of this picture
- 8:41Speaker 2: of him Brady and mccordy.
- 8:44Speaker 6: I didn't see it.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Oh really they are?
- 8:45Speaker 4: Yeah, what's the picture?
- 8:46Speaker 6: I don't know. I'm having problems at the White Party?
- 8:49Speaker 2: Was at.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Was back at the White Party.
- 8:52Speaker 4: This was a separate but Williams was at the White
- 8:54Speaker 4: Party and then he got traded like two days later.
- 8:56Speaker 6: Everybody he was at the White Party. I'm looking at it.
- 8:58Speaker 3: Well, Grant Williams was attic event here with Jason Tatum
- 9:01Speaker 3: last week.
- 9:02Speaker 2: So Ruben probably.
- 9:05Speaker 6: Come with Jason if you want.
- 9:07Speaker 7: Did Alex is not how that works? Did Alex stock
- 9:09Speaker 7: Jason Tatum while he was here for that?
- 9:11Speaker 3: We did have a conversation about that. I was a
- 9:13Speaker 3: little upset that I wasn't given the invitation to come
- 9:16Speaker 3: and meet Jason Tatum in the line of little kids
- 9:18Speaker 3: like you take pictures with him.
- 9:20Speaker 4: We were talking it's like kid, everybody's talking about that
- 9:25Speaker 4: was like, what are you guys talking about? You know,
- 9:27Speaker 4: like it was a huge event, Like for what like
- 9:30Speaker 4: I mean not that I have to be like made
- 9:33Speaker 4: aware of everything that's going on, but I don't know.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Jason seems like something that I might have, you know,
- 9:38Speaker 4: someone may have let me know about.
- 9:40Speaker 7: I saw the pictures from Patris dot Com and I'm
- 9:42Speaker 7: kind of like was looking through him and I could
- 9:44Speaker 7: see I saw a picture with Alex.
- 9:46Speaker 6: In the background.
- 9:46Speaker 7: And then I saw a picture and I'm like, is
- 9:48Speaker 7: that Jason Tatum in the background, And I started to
- 9:50Speaker 7: like process him, Like my god, Alex was there with
- 9:51Speaker 7: Jason Tatum at the same time.
- 9:53Speaker 3: She must have least we talked about it.
- 9:55Speaker 2: That's why she hasn't been in I think.
- 9:56Speaker 4: So she said, well, that's why it was. Alex didn't
- 10:00Speaker 4: do the show on Tuesday. I think that was the
- 10:02Speaker 4: day of the event, right, and she came out and
- 10:04Speaker 4: she did the show on Thursday. I wish she could
- 10:06Speaker 4: laugh at ever and talking about comparing herself to West.
- 10:10Speaker 2: But I guess this fanatics are going to be doing
- 10:12Speaker 2: this every year now. It's the Day of Giving and
- 10:13Speaker 2: they had it in different cities around the country. But wait,
- 10:17Speaker 2: what an empire he's built. Michael Rubin.
- 10:20Speaker 7: I had to go on his Wikipedia page today because
- 10:22Speaker 7: I'm like, where did this guy come from? And I mean,
- 10:23Speaker 7: he's I know about fanatics. But yeah, from that to
- 10:27Speaker 7: the White Party, now he's just all over the self
- 10:29Speaker 7: made of e commerce.
- 10:31Speaker 2: You know, that's where he started.
- 10:32Speaker 7: Did you see all the all the people that was
- 10:34Speaker 7: like jay Z, Beyonce, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Brady.
- 10:36Speaker 6: I mean, I like the list.
- 10:38Speaker 3: It's just he's he's one of those like people that
- 10:41Speaker 3: if there was an Illuminati, he would be like the
- 10:43Speaker 3: head of the secret head of Illuminati. Like everybody thinks
- 10:46Speaker 3: that it's like somebody famous, like jay Z or something,
- 10:49Speaker 3: but it's actually this like businessman is running all of
- 10:52Speaker 3: the show behind the scenes.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Yeah, cool, I hate everybody that's there.
- 10:58Speaker 3: They're all so fred You've been strong there because you'd
- 11:01Speaker 3: have mustard all over your white right, Like I don't got.
- 11:03Speaker 4: No white store.
- 11:04Speaker 2: And I heard that they had like white makes you
- 11:05Speaker 2: look fat.
- 11:06Speaker 4: I heard they had pizza pizza.
- 11:08Speaker 2: They got pizza white pizza because I hate white pizza.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Tomato place supposedly famous for for for their pizza and uh,
- 11:19Speaker 4: like they were talking about on the RAIDO.
- 11:21Speaker 6: I totally agree.
- 11:22Speaker 4: That's one of the last Like why don't you just
- 11:24Speaker 4: get spaghetti and meatballs? You know at a white party, right,
- 11:27Speaker 4: that would be all over Fred's shirt.
- 11:29Speaker 2: God, easily, that would be just the.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Meatball just comes out and splat, splats flat right down.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 3: So there was a a certain celebrity, female celebrity that
- 11:38Speaker 3: that was at the party as well, and she has
- 11:41Speaker 3: now popped up a few times in Tom Brady's presence.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Is that who you're talking about.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Really, Kim Kardashian. There's been multiple bread crumbs at this point,
- 11:57Speaker 3: including buying a mansion in the same complex as Brady
- 12:02Speaker 3: in Florida. That's recently.
- 12:04Speaker 6: That's too much.
- 12:05Speaker 7: Come on, you're getting clinging on me here at can.
- 12:07Speaker 3: And and then she was at this at at Michael
- 12:10Speaker 3: Rubin's party where Brady was also present.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Well post all the people cannot be involved with she
- 12:20Speaker 2: tops the list. I mean, it's just trouble from the
- 12:23Speaker 2: word go the whole.
- 12:24Speaker 7: I mean, you feel like you're part of a marketing campaign.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Yeah, you really like, Oh, come on.
- 12:29Speaker 7: That's why Tom's probably trying to play it cool, like
- 12:31Speaker 7: we're having to read between the lines because probably if
- 12:33Speaker 7: she had her way, they be you know.
- 12:35Speaker 3: I'm just saying every time I get that their celebrities
- 12:38Speaker 3: and they might run and say similar social circles anyway,
- 12:42Speaker 3: week one, Brady, right here we learn all of a sudden,
- 12:45Speaker 3: you know, you get a chair.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Get he brought us that whole clan.
- 12:51Speaker 7: Well, there's other things I blame on OJ, but.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Yeah, anyway, eight five five past five hundred is the
- 12:58Speaker 2: ACE ticket hutline web radio at pages dot com.
- 13:02Speaker 4: A lot of options for Tom Brady to actually upgrade
- 13:05Speaker 4: in terms of value, right.
- 13:07Speaker 6: I know, I know he got one of the only ones.
- 13:08Speaker 4: That Kim Kardashian's net worth is significantly greater than Jiselle's.
- 13:12Speaker 7: That'd be about more than money for him, now, right,
- 13:14Speaker 7: come on, Tom.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Is it you also have a little bit of a
- 13:18Speaker 3: couple of tidbits of news if we want to.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Okay, I tried with the right on your own time.
- 13:25Speaker 2: John Bentley.
- 13:26Speaker 3: We do have details on DeVante Parker's contract now he
- 13:29Speaker 3: kind of is a very incentive laden contract kind of
- 13:32Speaker 3: outline exactly. And also DeAndre Hopkins tweeting or actually threading
- 13:37Speaker 3: threaded it, threaded it the new one that unfortunately he
- 13:43Speaker 3: got some bad clam chowder on his visit here at
- 13:48Speaker 3: some point.
- 13:49Speaker 2: That's a terrible way to say hello to New England.
- 13:51Speaker 3: He according to him on thread threads threads by Instagram.
- 13:56Speaker 3: He uh didn't know there was bacon bits in the
- 14:00Speaker 3: clam chowder, and he doesn't eat pork. Pork is not
- 14:04Speaker 3: part of case.
- 14:05Speaker 2: It wasn't a bad clam.
- 14:06Speaker 3: No, it wasn't. Pork is not part of his diet.
- 14:09Speaker 3: So he hasn't eaten pork. And he said eight years
- 14:12Speaker 3: and he's had a stomach issues ever since.
- 14:16Speaker 7: Patriots are out Patriots A. I don't like the pork.
- 14:18Speaker 7: I don't like the bacon in the clam chowder. Not
- 14:20Speaker 7: we're not on my watch. Down the cap there's no
- 14:22Speaker 7: bacon down there.
- 14:24Speaker 2: I've had it before. There was a Boston place that
- 14:28Speaker 2: actually won a couple of awards and they have a
- 14:30Speaker 2: bacon and it's I.
- 14:32Speaker 7: Mean, I've had it, but I feel like pure clam
- 14:34Speaker 7: chowder for me, like where I grew up having it.
- 14:36Speaker 4: But they had a lot in uh In La.
- 14:38Speaker 7: There was bacon in the clam chowder out there, a lot. Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 7: there was a place called the Northern Spying Camp. That's
- 14:43Speaker 7: a good, good place, but they put bacon in. It's
- 14:45Speaker 7: real good, but I have to say no bacon.
- 14:47Speaker 6: But sorry, DeAndre.
- 14:48Speaker 8: How much of this chowder did he eat before he
- 14:50Speaker 8: realized there was Bacon in it?
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yeah, plus how much this is delicious, plus how much.
- 14:57Speaker 3: I'm just reading the threads. All right, that's it. That's all.
- 14:59Speaker 3: I sure was that Verified.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Need someone to read the threats. So I don't know
- 15:05Speaker 4: what the hell is going on.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I mean, unless it's really quiet. It sounds like he's
- 15:10Speaker 2: taking his time, Hopkins. And it also sounds like unless
- 15:15Speaker 2: it's you know, people being really quiet about it. No
- 15:20Speaker 2: other teams have jumped into the to the mix.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Which I think Follower actually reported. It's just Tennessee and
- 15:26Speaker 4: New England.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's good for us.
- 15:28Speaker 3: I mean, I got to take something back to I.
- 15:30Speaker 7: I called into the show from from the shores of
- 15:32Speaker 7: Maui last week to talk to Paul and Evan, and
- 15:35Speaker 7: Paul put me on the spot like, how are you
- 15:36Speaker 7: feeling about DeAndre? And I you know, I tried to
- 15:38Speaker 7: unplug in and I said, for some reason, I don't
- 15:40Speaker 7: think it's gonna happen. I take that back, like, I
- 15:42Speaker 7: still I still think it is going to and I
- 15:45Speaker 7: think it has to happen. Like the more I got
- 15:47Speaker 7: away from it, I'm like, you have to do something,
- 15:51Speaker 7: like I just don't think it's enough right now. To
- 15:53Speaker 7: realistically think this season is well, you're really going to
- 15:56Speaker 7: make some noise about that.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Forget about the name of the player. It sounds like
- 16:01Speaker 2: they need another adequate receiver just because, like everybody's hurt
- 16:06Speaker 2: and people are going to get hurt. They need some
- 16:09Speaker 2: quality depth. You know. Now, if it can be DeAndre Hopkins, great,
- 16:13Speaker 2: you know, but it sounds like they're gonna need another receiver.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Yes, you know, I mean especially those are kind two
- 16:18Speaker 4: different things, though, Fred they need. I think they need
- 16:21Speaker 4: DeAndre Hopkins. I think Mike and Evan have been talking
- 16:23Speaker 4: about this for weeks. Yep, they need that guy at
- 16:26Speaker 4: the top. They they need receivers for depth. I don't
- 16:28Speaker 4: think they have enough actual receivers for camp, but those
- 16:32Speaker 4: like aren't the same thing.
- 16:33Speaker 2: No, I get I get it. But if you're going
- 16:34Speaker 2: to add a receiver, you might as well spend the
- 16:36Speaker 2: money and bring him in.
- 16:37Speaker 6: I agree, I think that would make sense.
- 16:39Speaker 7: I don't think you can ignore the depth either, I mean,
- 16:41Speaker 7: and the injury issues. It was just you know, I mean,
- 16:42Speaker 7: do we trust Taekwon Thornton. It's not only gonna be good,
- 16:45Speaker 7: but also have seventeen plus games in them.
- 16:47Speaker 2: The show how often Paul over the years like, oh,
- 16:50Speaker 2: we hear about some you know, skill position player with
- 16:54Speaker 2: you know, some type of injury and it just lingers
- 16:57Speaker 2: and it lingers. You know.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think they have enough wide receivers currently
- 17:02Speaker 4: on the roster.
- 17:03Speaker 6: I think you need a lot of body.
- 17:04Speaker 4: There's a lot of running at that position in camp,
- 17:07Speaker 4: and you want to save these guys you don't want
- 17:09Speaker 4: to have you don't want to have juju.
- 17:12Speaker 6: When Thornton and.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Parker just running, you know, born running routes constantly and
- 17:17Speaker 4: being every rep during the summer, that just kind of
- 17:20Speaker 4: adds to the wear and tear. And then you put
- 17:22Speaker 4: need those other guys too.
- 17:23Speaker 7: Yeah, and then you put ed Lee in there or
- 17:25Speaker 7: you know, those lower guys, and I mean it's I
- 17:28Speaker 7: feel like you're kind of hoping against the real possibilities
- 17:31Speaker 7: that one of those guys is really going to emerge.
- 17:32Speaker 7: I mean, I don't want to put too much in
- 17:34Speaker 7: the mini camp and OTA's, but it was, you know,
- 17:35Speaker 7: kind of disappointing that one of those guys wasn't you know,
- 17:38Speaker 7: didn't pop a little bit more. I mean, I don't
- 17:40Speaker 7: know if it necessarily is you know, death sentences to
- 17:43Speaker 7: as far as those guys go when it gets.
- 17:45Speaker 6: To training camp. But I think it's I think it's true.
- 17:47Speaker 2: And I you.
- 17:48Speaker 7: Know, just the more you kind of step back, like
- 17:50Speaker 7: get away from it a little bit the last couple
- 17:51Speaker 7: of weeks, it's like.
- 17:52Speaker 4: So you were away when that happened, Right to Parker extension,
- 17:55Speaker 4: it was I was, and I was surprised by it.
- 17:57Speaker 4: I mean, and I think now in retrospect, I mean,
- 17:59Speaker 4: it's just that's they I think it's barred put it
- 18:02Speaker 4: like the easy deals like they're doing.
- 18:03Speaker 7: The guys who are willing to take incentive lative deals
- 18:05Speaker 7: to get you know, I don't know if you call
- 18:07Speaker 7: it security, but to get a new deal and to
- 18:09Speaker 7: get maybe some new money. But you know how much
- 18:12Speaker 7: I mean we've said it a hundred times. They like
- 18:15Speaker 7: him more than we like him, Like we have all
- 18:16Speaker 7: just been kind of like he's a nice contested receiver.
- 18:19Speaker 7: I think that he has a role within the offense,
- 18:21Speaker 7: but is he going to be a true needle mover?
- 18:24Speaker 7: Like to Fred's point, you know, if one of these
- 18:26Speaker 7: inside guys gets hurt like Parker is what he is, like,
- 18:29Speaker 7: he's never going to be able to man, we got
- 18:31Speaker 7: to you know, I'd even feel better about Borne. He's
- 18:34Speaker 7: not versatile and being more versatile and within the offense
- 18:37Speaker 7: than Parker. Like and if you get stuck with just
- 18:39Speaker 7: Mac and Parker is your main guys, it's you know,
- 18:41Speaker 7: in Gasicki and Henry, it's like, man, this is not
- 18:44Speaker 7: a dynamic.
- 18:44Speaker 4: And there are guys now on my show it's Freddy
- 18:47Speaker 4: that are sort of, you know, reading between the lines.
- 18:50Speaker 4: If Hopkins comes, they think that Bourne might go, and
- 18:53Speaker 4: they're not that's not the guy that they would have chosen.
- 18:55Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Now, I don't know that you necessarily have to get
- 18:58Speaker 4: rid of anybody yet, Like we just about the depth,
- 19:00Speaker 4: so you could keep them all and figure it out.
- 19:03Speaker 4: But what I what I didn't like about the Parker thing.
- 19:05Speaker 4: And Evan and I talked about this Tuesday and Thursday
- 19:09Speaker 4: last week, and I think we're in agreement. It's not like,
- 19:13Speaker 4: oh my god, you just set the organization back ten
- 19:15Speaker 4: years or oh man, you're really setting everything up. You're
- 19:18Speaker 4: paving the way for Hopkins. We don't think it's either
- 19:20Speaker 4: one of those extremes. Yeah, Like I was just kind
- 19:23Speaker 4: of there.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I wouldn't read into it that much. You have to
- 19:25Speaker 2: do this, you know, but every year with certain I.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Don't really understand why. Now my concern is this is
- 19:33Speaker 4: that comment that I said, I grew up in New
- 19:35Speaker 4: England and I've been, you know, sort of worried about
- 19:37Speaker 4: you know, I didn't get have the luxury of winning
- 19:39Speaker 4: a title every year of my life. What I would
- 19:42Speaker 4: worry about is what you kind of talked about with
- 19:44Speaker 4: those two kids not popping at all at Mini Caamp,
- 19:47Speaker 4: Booty and Douglas. I would think that if they showed
- 19:52Speaker 4: a lot of promise for some other young receiver, it'd
- 19:55Speaker 4: shown a lot of promise. I don't think this would
- 19:57Speaker 4: necessarily be a movie you'd be willing to make or looking.
- 19:59Speaker 4: To me, there was no need to extend a thirty
- 20:03Speaker 4: year old receiver coming off injury. Okay, okay season where
- 20:09Speaker 4: he was a complimentary piece. My feeling is Belichick probably
- 20:12Speaker 4: felt like, yeah, I need to have some receivers next
- 20:15Speaker 4: year that I know that I can rely on it.
- 20:17Speaker 6: That's not good.
- 20:18Speaker 2: But didn't they didn't they free up some cap space
- 20:21Speaker 2: and isn't it incentive laden so you can talk about it.
- 20:24Speaker 6: Gets more money than you would have.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Yeah, if he does certain things.
- 20:27Speaker 3: No, No, well, there is the salary is guaranteed money.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Well this year he made next year, and.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Yeah, well there's new money on the contract. It is,
- 20:35Speaker 3: it's it's a real extension. So basically it's a three year,
- 20:39Speaker 3: seventeen million dollar base value contract.
- 20:42Speaker 4: Not thirty three million, but it's more than five point
- 20:45Speaker 4: eight which was what he was going to get.
- 20:47Speaker 3: It's it's you know, it is in terms of the
- 20:50Speaker 3: new money that's on the contract the next two years,
- 20:52Speaker 3: but it's about the same money that he was getting
- 20:55Speaker 3: on a per year basis. But the problem is, I think,
- 20:58Speaker 3: I don't know if I'll call it a problem, but
- 20:59Speaker 3: it it basically guarantees his roster spot for the next
- 21:02Speaker 3: two years. Essentially, Like I think next year, they probably
- 21:06Speaker 3: will be able to move on if they absolutely need
- 21:08Speaker 3: to or want to, but they would carry some dead money.
- 21:12Speaker 4: It'd be like three something million dollars guaranteed next Yeah.
- 21:18Speaker 6: Well that's that's that's the thing that I'm most interested in. Fred.
- 21:20Speaker 7: That came on the last couple of days, And I
- 21:22Speaker 7: apologize for where I where I saw it, but somebody
- 21:25Speaker 7: kind of ranked like teams, future cap space all that
- 21:29Speaker 7: kind of stuff.
- 21:29Speaker 3: I don't know, you know what I'm talking about that,
- 21:31Speaker 3: and somebody posted, yeah, I think there's an ESPN plus
- 21:34Speaker 3: or one of those.
- 21:35Speaker 7: Like, but it's like the Patriots have like more money
- 21:38Speaker 7: in cap space over the next few years than anybody else.
- 21:41Speaker 7: And it's just and it's like in one part and
- 21:44Speaker 7: I know that, like the guaranteed money thing is kind
- 21:46Speaker 7: of a conversation on Paul's shows, you know, the the
- 21:47Speaker 7: amount of cash spending that they've been doing.
- 21:49Speaker 6: I know that's been a thing too, But it's just
- 21:52Speaker 6: what is.
- 21:53Speaker 7: The answer to all this because in one hand, you
- 21:55Speaker 7: don't really you haven't really had the players like to extend.
- 21:58Speaker 7: Like it's fine to say, well, I wish they would
- 22:00Speaker 7: spend more cash. We'll find on who like you really
- 22:02Speaker 7: wish that they had extended player what Like I mean,
- 22:05Speaker 7: is there anybody tuger?
- 22:07Speaker 3: So that's the next one coming up, So that should.
- 22:09Speaker 7: Be where it goes, right, But they seem reticent to
- 22:13Speaker 7: do it, Like I don't know, maybe they're trying.
- 22:14Speaker 3: To have so much cap space because they don't have.
- 22:17Speaker 4: They don't have to play good players, right, And what
- 22:19Speaker 4: I like about like, and I do think, you know,
- 22:21Speaker 4: we can look at these two deals and the three
- 22:24Speaker 4: of us were just talking about this upstairs. I like
- 22:27Speaker 4: the idea of Bentley, you know, not like this, you know, multifaceted, uber,
- 22:33Speaker 4: athletic inside linebacker. He's not that, that's not what he is.
- 22:36Speaker 4: But I like the fact that they identify a guy
- 22:38Speaker 4: that works in their system, that performs a role, and
- 22:42Speaker 4: more importantly, is a leader and maybe a bridge to
- 22:45Speaker 4: that next group of leadership. You know, he's been a captain.
- 22:49Speaker 4: Now you're locking him up to stay. He was getting
- 22:51Speaker 4: during the final year of his deal too, so now
- 22:53Speaker 4: he's locked up to stay for two more years. And
- 22:56Speaker 4: I think that you can look at him and say,
- 22:58Speaker 4: I know the defense has at least one leader, and
- 23:01Speaker 4: I'm kind of hoping that that Kyle dugger is one
- 23:04Speaker 4: of those guys too. I don't know how much of
- 23:06Speaker 4: an outgoing leader he is when we talk to him.
- 23:08Speaker 4: He doesn't really seem like he's it's more like high tower. Yeah,
- 23:12Speaker 4: But I like that, like think about that secondary potentially,
- 23:17Speaker 4: if not in twenty four and twenty five, it's Christian Gonzalez,
- 23:20Speaker 4: it's Marcus Jones, who knows what Jack Jones, It's Marte
- 23:24Speaker 4: Marpoo Mapoo sorry, and hopefully Kyle Duggar and then who
- 23:30Speaker 4: would you think would be the leader of a group
- 23:31Speaker 4: like that in year three, right, year four, like it
- 23:34Speaker 4: would be the six year guy in Duggar at that time.
- 23:37Speaker 4: I think it's important to try to continue that, you know,
- 23:40Speaker 4: that dynamic.
- 23:41Speaker 2: It's important to have nucleus guys, you know, like with Bentley,
- 23:45Speaker 2: you know, you get him signed up, he's all in,
- 23:47Speaker 2: he's your guy. He comes in starting training camp as
- 23:51Speaker 2: one of your circle the wagon guys. You know, he
- 23:55Speaker 2: doesn't have to worry about the money anymore's contract, he's
- 23:58Speaker 2: he's all set, he's he's bought in. And you know,
- 24:01Speaker 2: the more guys you can have like that, the better.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Which is what kind of impact does it have in
- 24:05Speaker 3: the locker room too? Of you know, and this goes.
- 24:07Speaker 7: To like my thing with with Bentley was like you
- 24:09Speaker 7: couldn't have just like you keep stringing him along on
- 24:12Speaker 7: two year deals, Like no, Bentley wasn't going anywhere else,
- 24:15Speaker 7: like I think anytime we talked about him. You know
- 24:17Speaker 7: that again, like Parker, he has more value here than
- 24:20Speaker 7: he probably does anywhere else. And and to agree with Paul,
- 24:23Speaker 7: I mean, I think he's a great piece like I do.
- 24:25Speaker 7: I think that he's great against Lamar Jackson's in the world. No,
- 24:28Speaker 7: I think that's probably like you're starting to think, hey,
- 24:30Speaker 7: we hope that Marty Mattpu can be you know, one
- 24:33Speaker 7: of those mobile inside guys that can stick with him.
- 24:35Speaker 7: But I think he's got a role one hundred percent
- 24:37Speaker 7: on the team. But I just wonder if you don't
- 24:39Speaker 7: extend Kyle Duggart, the guys start to say, like, look,
- 24:42Speaker 7: no matter how well I play here, even if I
- 24:45Speaker 7: get a contract, they're probably gonna low ball me. And
- 24:47Speaker 7: it's gonna be a two year deal and there's gonna
- 24:49Speaker 7: be a bunch of incentives in it, and no thanks,
- 24:51Speaker 7: Like I don't.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Want to be a past Like I started thinking back,
- 24:53Speaker 4: and it's always dangerous because then I always forget guys
- 24:56Speaker 4: when I do this. But like I was thinking of, like, well,
- 24:59Speaker 4: these are the kinds of move Who's Bentley Parker. It
- 25:01Speaker 4: was like a Jarvis Green, you know, valuable guy, good piece.
- 25:05Speaker 4: Let's let's not even let him get to free agency.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Let's let's lock him up. But Douger to me is
- 25:11Speaker 4: more of like a Mike Rabel, you know, let's not
- 25:15Speaker 4: even let him get to free agency, let's lock him up.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Well, maybe little bit harder to do. Yeah, and that exactly.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Maybe the fact that they haven't signed Dougger yet means
- 25:22Speaker 2: it's a little bit more complicated than these other No.
- 25:25Speaker 4: This this big money there. Ye, you know, Douglas going
- 25:27Speaker 4: to get a decent contract. I think a guy like
- 25:29Speaker 4: josh Uja, you know, depending on what he does, he's
- 25:32Speaker 4: going to break the bank. If he has another double
- 25:35Speaker 4: digit sack season, he's going to be very valuable as
- 25:38Speaker 4: an edge rusher with back to back ten plus sax seasons.
- 25:41Speaker 4: So I get that if they you have to pick,
- 25:43Speaker 4: you can't have everybody, you know, Michael, when you I
- 25:46Speaker 4: would read the tea leaves and say they've drafted I
- 25:50Speaker 4: don't know, five interior offensive lineman the next the last
- 25:53Speaker 4: two drafts. My guess is they're going to be pretty
- 25:56Speaker 4: comfortable that one of those guys will be able to
- 25:58Speaker 4: step in for a when you if when you was
- 26:01Speaker 4: like one of those sixty million dollar guards. I think
- 26:04Speaker 4: they've been down that road with Shack and total in
- 26:06Speaker 4: Joe Toney. My guess is they probably don't want to
- 26:08Speaker 4: go down there again totally, even though when you's been excellent.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but all them as I sat upstairs.
- 26:13Speaker 7: I said it probably for It's like if you had
- 26:15Speaker 7: to pick a position in football that you need to
- 26:16Speaker 7: figure out, right guard, right tackle, those are probably the
- 26:19Speaker 7: two places I.
- 26:20Speaker 6: Am going to start. I know you probably start with kicker.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Paul, but.
- 26:24Speaker 4: You know, either that or you know, just you know
- 26:27Speaker 4: running back.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Well, guards and running backs are kind of similar, right
- 26:31Speaker 3: in terms of the entertainability. But I just think with
- 26:34Speaker 3: bent Parker I have much different opinion on in terms
- 26:37Speaker 3: of the contract, but with Bentley, like you have to
- 26:40Speaker 3: at some point start building a nucleus of core players,
- 26:42Speaker 3: Like you can't just keep recycling every four years. And
- 26:47Speaker 3: you know, I think that a lot of the talk is,
- 26:49Speaker 3: well they don't. They're not drafting linebackers, so now they
- 26:52Speaker 3: just are forced to kind of keep Bentley in the fold.
- 26:54Speaker 3: And it's like, at some point you got to keep
- 26:56Speaker 3: some guys around, Like you can't just keep on recycling
- 27:00Speaker 3: players every four years in the draft and just trying
- 27:03Speaker 3: to go about it that way. You have to have leaders.
- 27:05Speaker 3: You have to have guys that buy into the system,
- 27:07Speaker 3: that understand the defense, understand the culture, understand the program,
- 27:11Speaker 3: and are going to be leaders for you in the
- 27:13Speaker 3: locker room. You have to at least a handful and
- 27:15Speaker 3: are those types of guys. Yeah, and he's really one
- 27:17Speaker 3: of those guys. I also think he's kind of an
- 27:19Speaker 3: underrated player. Like I know, he's not what everybody wants.
- 27:23Speaker 3: He's not Fred Warner, he's not Matt Milano, he's not
- 27:26Speaker 3: this two hundred and thirty pound athletic, rangy coverage linebacker.
- 27:30Speaker 3: But for what they need that position, in that role
- 27:33Speaker 3: in this defense to do, he's really really good at it.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Yep. I like my guys missed it was a lot
- 27:38Speaker 4: of agreeing. Yeah, and Paul last week, you guys missed it.
- 27:41Speaker 6: Well, I mean, I think good stuff.
- 27:43Speaker 7: It's it's it's one of those things where I think
- 27:45Speaker 7: we're seeing, you know, through the similar lens right now
- 27:47Speaker 7: of especially the Dugger situation, and it's you know, it's
- 27:50Speaker 7: it's just it's hard because you say Dugger and Ooja
- 27:54Speaker 7: and then who, like, like you know, who else is
- 27:57Speaker 7: going to deserve a chunk of this money, you know,
- 27:59Speaker 7: cap space that they have coming up, and you know,
- 28:02Speaker 7: and I just I don't think that Bill is necessarily
- 28:05Speaker 7: planning it this way, but I just can't help but
- 28:07Speaker 7: think that if he were to depart that it's kind
- 28:10Speaker 7: of a clean slate for whoever's next. There's not a
- 28:13Speaker 7: bunch of cap commitments to guys that you know that
- 28:16Speaker 7: somebody else may or may not like.
- 28:18Speaker 6: Probably reading too much into that, but I don't know.
- 28:21Speaker 7: It's just it seems like they're in good shape if
- 28:23Speaker 7: if they needed to turn things over soon, that they
- 28:24Speaker 7: could do it pretty easily.
- 28:26Speaker 2: All right. Eight five five Pats five hundred is the
- 28:28Speaker 2: ACE ticket hout line web radio and Patriots. Patriots what
- 28:32Speaker 2: you want? Yeah, a little patriots, Little patriots?
- 28:35Speaker 6: Can I I got two things.
- 28:36Speaker 7: I gotta give a shout out to Steve from Rancho
- 28:38Speaker 7: Kokamonga who spotted me in Maui and it said he's
- 28:41Speaker 7: a big fan of the show.
- 28:42Speaker 3: So it's one of the first times I've been out
- 28:43Speaker 3: in public.
- 28:44Speaker 2: I think I remember his email.
- 28:46Speaker 6: I told him.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Remember email from Rancho Ku Yeah, because that isn't that
- 28:49Speaker 4: where Patty Chung was from, right?
- 28:52Speaker 2: Maybe?
- 28:53Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 28:53Speaker 2: Maybe?
- 28:54Speaker 7: I also watched Adi for Brady on the plane. Well,
- 28:56Speaker 7: I wouldn't say I watched it. I kind of scan
- 28:59Speaker 7: through it.
- 28:59Speaker 2: I watched it too. Oh, by the way, I went
- 29:04Speaker 2: to see Asteroid City. Awful, awful, and I like Wes
- 29:09Speaker 2: Anderson movies. Mostly this was terrible.
- 29:12Speaker 6: I've lost him.
- 29:13Speaker 7: I love the Bottle Rocket is one of his first ones,
- 29:15Speaker 7: was like one of my all time favorite movies. And
- 29:17Speaker 7: Royal Tenon Bombs was good to be good. It's kind
- 29:20Speaker 7: of funny. It's like Ohen Wilson's first movie. They're like
- 29:22Speaker 7: small time inept crooks. But but I did enjoy just
- 29:26Speaker 7: watching the end of eighty for Brady and kind of
- 29:28Speaker 7: reliving the game.
- 29:29Speaker 3: And no, no, you the it's not the end, that's
- 29:33Speaker 3: the client I skipped out before the the Benedict Arnold's
- 29:39Speaker 3: in the at the end. It was it was every
- 29:42Speaker 3: cliche in the book.
- 29:43Speaker 6: I thought Gronk was really funny though, like just his
- 29:45Speaker 6: little bit.
- 29:47Speaker 7: But man, Brady can't act like it's just he's He's
- 29:49Speaker 7: just such a bad actor.
- 29:50Speaker 6: But it did remind me of like just.
- 29:52Speaker 7: Watching it and I'm like, look, the Patriots, they'll maybe
- 29:55Speaker 7: win another Super Bowl. It'll never be like that again,
- 29:57Speaker 7: Like it'll never be that ridiculously over the top, intense dramatic,
- 30:02Speaker 7: you know, just the way that that team was some
- 30:04Speaker 7: of those some of those I mean no, and I
- 30:06Speaker 7: mean it in a good way, Like I felt like
- 30:07Speaker 7: kind of re energized coming back of just like man,
- 30:10Speaker 7: it was it was really cool. It's different now for sure,
- 30:13Speaker 7: but you know, just the way that that game unfolded,
- 30:16Speaker 7: it's still it's just it it blows around.
- 30:17Speaker 2: That was magic, you know. I don't I still can't
- 30:21Speaker 2: believe what I saw, right.
- 30:23Speaker 7: I mean every time you see it you can't believe,
- 30:24Speaker 7: especially when you're watching it through like the eyes of
- 30:26Speaker 7: Jane Fauna.
- 30:27Speaker 2: My god, the.
- 30:28Speaker 6: Guy Fieri scene, I mean, there's so much.
- 30:30Speaker 7: The other thing was like, you know, they put like
- 30:31Speaker 7: the two guys on there that were like kind of
- 30:32Speaker 7: like the Fitzy Like it seemed like they were doing
- 30:34Speaker 7: one of Me and FITZI shows and like they couldn't
- 30:36Speaker 7: have gotten us.
- 30:37Speaker 3: But that was like I don't know, Yeah, why didn't
- 30:38Speaker 3: they hire you?
- 30:40Speaker 6: And it's like, wow, watched you if you were in it?
- 30:43Speaker 3: Well, the guys that they got, because they were terrible.
- 30:45Speaker 7: It was like they just sat him down and like,
- 30:47Speaker 7: I don't know, just do some Boston stuff and I
- 30:48Speaker 7: couldn't like the accents, like.
- 30:50Speaker 3: The like we were available. Just called right, Robert Coudrey,
- 30:53Speaker 3: Like you your phone, Boston.
- 30:55Speaker 7: You should know if you just don't do an accident.
- 30:57Speaker 6: It's better than trying to do a Boston accent.
- 31:00Speaker 7: Been doing a bad Boston accent where every every r
- 31:03Speaker 7: is Ah.
- 31:05Speaker 6: That was bad, but but it was fun. I just
- 31:07Speaker 6: kind of like, you know it, Scanter, like, oh guy here,
- 31:10Speaker 6: And then got to the game.
- 31:10Speaker 7: I'm like, all right, we'll watch this now.
- 31:12Speaker 2: But it wasn't good.
- 31:13Speaker 3: But so you didn't see the end. You told me.
- 31:15Speaker 3: You told me about that, so I tapped out before that.
- 31:17Speaker 6: I think I think we had.
- 31:19Speaker 3: If I had known, I would have done the same.
- 31:20Speaker 7: My oly question was, I don't think they said the
- 31:22Speaker 7: word Belichick once in the whole movie.
- 31:24Speaker 3: He was in it. He was in it twice, like
- 31:28Speaker 3: like a shot of him right walking walking sideline and
- 31:30Speaker 3: then there was one of him walking into the tunnel
- 31:32Speaker 3: like before the game.
- 31:33Speaker 4: Yeah, but I ever.
- 31:35Speaker 6: Talked about him.
- 31:35Speaker 3: It was always the Patriots, And you know, I did
- 31:38Speaker 3: have some notes.
- 31:38Speaker 7: I had some notes on the script, you know, I'm like,
- 31:40Speaker 7: all right, so they're they're lifelong fans watching the game.
- 31:43Speaker 6: In the opening of the movie, they all have brand
- 31:44Speaker 6: new Brady jerseys on.
- 31:45Speaker 7: I'm like, can we get one of these ladies who's
- 31:47Speaker 7: had like a worn torn good you know, and then
- 31:50Speaker 7: when you flip them at the end and they start
- 31:51Speaker 7: wearing the bedazzled ones, like you know, then it has
- 31:53Speaker 7: a little pops a little more.
- 31:54Speaker 3: That's you know, Hollywood, Deuce have for a second there
- 31:57Speaker 3: raised the stake ghost.
- 31:58Speaker 4: That's a good point.
- 31:59Speaker 2: It is.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Yeah, the only person on the planet is concerned with
- 32:02Speaker 4: what year the shirt was.
- 32:04Speaker 7: But like, if you're a lifelong fan, wouldn't you And
- 32:07Speaker 7: this is like a tradition to them, And it looks
- 32:09Speaker 7: like they just you know, open that the shirts from fanatics,
- 32:11Speaker 7: like all.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Lifelong fans have to be like Fireman ad and wear
- 32:14Speaker 4: a shirt that's like.
- 32:15Speaker 6: Fifty years old.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Chances are you would have one that you wear every
- 32:19Speaker 2: game and it's a little bit beat up.
- 32:21Speaker 3: I would also hope that lifelong fans would not jump
- 32:24Speaker 3: ship to Tampa Bay as soon as Tom Brady left.
- 32:27Speaker 6: You know, that's fine. I'm glad it was made.
- 32:29Speaker 4: I'm glad it.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Exists, all right, pass five hundred days taken out the one.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Person I know that says that I'm glad it exists.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Let's let's turn to the listeners, see what's on everyone's mind.
- 32:40Speaker 2: We'll go to Todd, North Carolina, what's up, Todd?
- 32:43Speaker 10: So I was thinking about this for a while. You
- 32:47Speaker 10: take a look at pradition, Patricia, You take a look
- 32:48Speaker 10: at McDaniels. They take a look a lot of the
- 32:50Speaker 10: coaches that have left here, and you know, they probably
- 32:53Speaker 10: kind of have a legacy because they've been here for
- 32:55Speaker 10: several Super Bowls and stuff, But how much of their
- 32:59Speaker 10: how much of their legacy their success is just tied
- 33:02Speaker 10: to being a part of the Patriots and having Bill
- 33:04Speaker 10: there and maybe Tom there and just having this organization,
- 33:07Speaker 10: and then when they get out, they just don't seem
- 33:09Speaker 10: to perform, Like what do you think is going on
- 33:11Speaker 10: with that? You know, that inability to make it work
- 33:15Speaker 10: outside this the site? So and could you please send
- 33:18Speaker 10: me back because I was going to buy you guys lunch,
- 33:19Speaker 10: but young, you should put me on hold too quick?
- 33:22Speaker 2: All right?
- 33:22Speaker 7: Oh well make sure you do that for I don't hit,
- 33:24Speaker 7: don't no, no, I'll hit, don't drop it, Okay, he's
- 33:28Speaker 7: on Hope.
- 33:31Speaker 4: I mean, I think all of their success is tied
- 33:33Speaker 4: to the I don't mean to be disrespectful, but these
- 33:36Speaker 4: guys haven't had really any success outside of New England. Yeah,
- 33:40Speaker 4: Patricia McDaniels, I think.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Yet I think Manginie would have had he not been
- 33:45Speaker 2: blackballed by the league, you know, but I don't.
- 33:48Speaker 4: I don't agree with that at all. You had time
- 33:50Speaker 4: to do it in New York. He had another opportunity
- 33:53Speaker 4: in Cleveland.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Well, I say, I think he would have. I think
- 33:56Speaker 2: he would have been good.
- 33:58Speaker 6: But he got another job after.
- 33:59Speaker 2: We think Ryan Dabele is having success.
- 34:03Speaker 6: Yep, he was here a couple of times.
- 34:04Speaker 7: Can we claim him, yeah, I mean I would claim
- 34:08Speaker 7: Brian Dable, Yeah he was.
- 34:09Speaker 4: He was just like Josh McDaniels. They came in as
- 34:11Speaker 4: coaching assistance in two thousand, right, but he was never
- 34:15Speaker 4: he was never the coordinator here. He was always a
- 34:17Speaker 4: position coach here.
- 34:18Speaker 2: But you know, I don't know he learned under Bill,
- 34:22Speaker 2: I would say, and he had success.
- 34:25Speaker 6: It's hard.
- 34:25Speaker 7: I mean, do you guys have a different at all
- 34:28Speaker 7: perspective of Josh McDaniel's after last season?
- 34:30Speaker 6: As I thinking about it a little bit, I.
- 34:32Speaker 7: Feel like I have a little bit more appreciation for,
- 34:34Speaker 7: you know, what he did as far as keeping the offense.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I always had and I still think I think he's
- 34:42Speaker 2: got a chance to be a good head coach. It's
- 34:45Speaker 2: just it's gonna take time. You know, it's hard.
- 34:49Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know.
- 34:49Speaker 4: He's got a year just so you know, because if
- 34:53Speaker 4: he flames out this year and gets fired, he's probably
- 34:56Speaker 4: not going to get a third chance.
- 34:57Speaker 2: I don't know. Do you think Mark Davis would fire.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Him can afford it.
- 35:00Speaker 4: If he could have afford it, he would have fired
- 35:02Speaker 4: him last year. Hey, And I'm not telling you I
- 35:05Speaker 4: thought he should have been fired because I don't. But
- 35:08Speaker 4: I think if Mark Davis could have afforded it, he'd
- 35:11Speaker 4: have been gone.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:12Speaker 3: I'm a big McDaniels fan, Like I think that he's
- 35:15Speaker 3: a really, really good offensive coach. But the one thing
- 35:18Speaker 3: about him is that you play his system like his
- 35:21Speaker 3: system is his system, and whether you're Tom Brady, you're
- 35:24Speaker 3: Mac Jones, you're Cam Newton, like you figure it out,
- 35:27Speaker 3: you play what I tell you to do. And I
- 35:30Speaker 3: think that that's where he's maybe run into some trouble
- 35:32Speaker 3: in other places, is getting the right people in place
- 35:36Speaker 3: to play that system, especially at the quarterback position. And
- 35:39Speaker 3: even last year Derek Carr had issues with it, didn't
- 35:42Speaker 3: love it. There's some pushback there of what they were
- 35:45Speaker 3: asking him to do. So That's the one thing about
- 35:48Speaker 3: McDaniels is like he's he's.
- 35:49Speaker 6: Gonna go, he's gonna he's gonna do.
- 35:51Speaker 3: He's gonna go down with the ship if it is.
- 35:53Speaker 4: And I also think he's impatient with with that stuff
- 35:56Speaker 4: that you guys are talking about.
- 35:57Speaker 7: Well, it's just I mean, it's interesting to me that
- 35:59Speaker 7: the two situations that he's gone to outside.
- 36:01Speaker 6: Of New England mirror each other.
- 36:02Speaker 7: You know, so closely, that he's going to two programs
- 36:05Speaker 7: with you know, at least a quarter quarterback and a
- 36:08Speaker 7: wide receiver that are you know, proven in the league.
- 36:10Speaker 6: You would have.
- 36:10Speaker 7: Thought at that time, like I mean, at that point
- 36:12Speaker 7: Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall, you like, Wow, he's really
- 36:15Speaker 7: going to something. Then you know, within a year they're
- 36:17Speaker 7: both gone. Now Derek Carr's gone, and he's kind of
- 36:20Speaker 7: tying his fate to Jimmy Garoppolo, who you know, just
- 36:23Speaker 7: can't seem to stay healthy.
- 36:25Speaker 3: And it's but it makes perfect sense because Jimmy's a
- 36:28Speaker 3: guy don't know what he wants him to do exactly
- 36:30Speaker 3: like you just do it my way, it'll work. That's
- 36:32Speaker 3: how these guys think, Like even like a Kyle Shanahan
- 36:34Speaker 3: that's why they had, you know, I know they trade
- 36:36Speaker 3: all those picks for Trey Lance, but he's even one
- 36:38Speaker 3: of those guys that's just like, if you just hit
- 36:41Speaker 3: the right button on the on the Xbox controller that
- 36:43Speaker 3: I tell you to hit, like, the offense is gonna
- 36:45Speaker 3: be fine. Don't don't try to do anything else, like,
- 36:48Speaker 3: don't try to be creative, don't try to put your
- 36:51Speaker 3: own spin on it, Like if the read is this,
- 36:53Speaker 3: then then throw the read like and that's that's how
- 36:55Speaker 3: McDaniels is.
- 36:56Speaker 7: Yeah, Well, the interesting year out there in a Vegas.
- 37:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's it's hard to be a head
- 37:03Speaker 2: coach in the NFL, and I think there's a thirst
- 37:07Speaker 2: for good head coaches, you know, and there's a lack
- 37:10Speaker 2: of them. And I think, you know, when you come
- 37:12Speaker 2: from a program that's had all the success, people just
- 37:15Speaker 2: want to get a piece of that, you know, bring
- 37:17Speaker 2: some of that to me. And it's it's just not
- 37:19Speaker 2: always that's not how it works. I just don't get.
- 37:22Speaker 7: Too caught up in like whether or not Belichick's tree
- 37:25Speaker 7: has success around the league.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Like, I don't care at all the Belichick tree. I'm
- 37:28Speaker 4: just assessing those guys.
- 37:30Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, the only one that you know, the
- 37:31Speaker 7: only one that really matters to me is is if
- 37:33Speaker 7: it's somebody off the tree that is the next head
- 37:35Speaker 7: coach here, Like, you know, that's the one that that
- 37:37Speaker 7: I want to see be successful. But you know, you
- 37:39Speaker 7: can break out all the cliches that they're trying to
- 37:41Speaker 7: be Bill, and you know, there's a certain you know,
- 37:43Speaker 7: I just think that there's a certain element of knowledge
- 37:46Speaker 7: that Bill Belichick has it, you know, in perspective that
- 37:48Speaker 7: none of those guys are going to have no matter
- 37:50Speaker 7: how much time they've spent with him, He's going to
- 37:52Speaker 7: always do things his own way. And you know it's
- 37:55Speaker 7: and even when he's doing it that way, it's not
- 37:57Speaker 7: a guarantee of success.
- 37:59Speaker 6: So I don't know, it's it's it's a high bar.
- 38:02Speaker 3: It's like you said, Fred, it's really hard to be
- 38:04Speaker 3: a head coach.
- 38:04Speaker 7: In this league and to manage to go from managing
- 38:06Speaker 7: an offense or defense to now you're managing everybody. And
- 38:09Speaker 7: not only that, but you're like got to take a
- 38:11Speaker 7: temperature of the team and make sure everyone's pulling in
- 38:13Speaker 7: the right direction, you know, all those things.
- 38:17Speaker 3: I think that's been the hardest part for guys that
- 38:19Speaker 3: have off the Belichick tree is the CEO elements of
- 38:24Speaker 3: being the head coach of the team, the personal elements
- 38:27Speaker 3: with the players, and the interactions with the players and
- 38:30Speaker 3: like all that kind of stuff, because all of them
- 38:31Speaker 3: are good football coaches on their respective sides of the
- 38:34Speaker 3: of the football. And it's never I never viewed it
- 38:37Speaker 3: as like a really big x's and o's thing. It's
- 38:40Speaker 3: like a culture thing. Like they just haven't built that
- 38:43Speaker 3: that culture in their own way yet. And I think
- 38:47Speaker 3: that that's for McDaniels. Like if I was the Raiders,
- 38:50Speaker 3: I'd give it some time. Like I wouldn't fire him
- 38:53Speaker 3: after two seasons, I'd give him three or four years
- 38:55Speaker 3: to try to establish his own foundation.
- 38:58Speaker 6: See that's the thing. I agree with you on that.
- 39:00Speaker 7: And I also saw some of the debate you know
- 39:02Speaker 7: that's going around with with Belichick and Andy Reid, and
- 39:04Speaker 7: like I just I don't think you can discount over
- 39:06Speaker 7: the last twenty years that the hard attack that this
- 39:08Speaker 7: league has taken towards offensive football. And if you have
- 39:11Speaker 7: a guy in house that knows offensive football and you
- 39:14Speaker 7: know you, I mean, clearly he has a plan and
- 39:16Speaker 7: knows what he wants to do.
- 39:18Speaker 6: It's it's not easy to go to to get rid
- 39:20Speaker 6: of that.
- 39:20Speaker 7: And all right, we're gonna go with a defensive guy now,
- 39:22Speaker 7: Like in this league you have to have you know,
- 39:25Speaker 7: maybe last year is I'm scarred from what we did here,
- 39:27Speaker 7: but like you have to have an offensive coordinator, an
- 39:30Speaker 7: offensive guru in the building that knows what they're doing.
- 39:33Speaker 7: It's just how the league is now. You can't try
- 39:35Speaker 7: to get by, you know, just shutting everybody down every week.
- 39:38Speaker 6: It's just it's not going to happen.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Let's go to Patty and Ago on. What's up? Patty up?
- 39:45Speaker 4: Everyone?
- 39:46Speaker 6: Hey, hy Patty?
- 39:48Speaker 11: Hey, Mike, I love Brushmore's.
- 39:50Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a good one too, yep.
- 39:53Speaker 11: Wanting to have make a point. And then if I
- 39:56Speaker 11: have time, Freddy to play play against that Jersey game
- 39:59Speaker 11: with Paul.
- 40:01Speaker 4: We have time, Stump, Perillo, we have time. The floor
- 40:04Speaker 4: is yours, all right, perfect, So just go piggybacking off
- 40:09Speaker 4: of what you guys said.
- 40:10Speaker 11: About you know, Chay and on when you and Kyle Duggar, Freddie,
- 40:15Speaker 11: I remember back in twenty sixteen a show that I
- 40:18Speaker 11: sat in on with you and Camp Crispy, and one
- 40:24Speaker 11: of the discussions that we had was at that point
- 40:27Speaker 11: it was Jamie Collins, Donta High Tower, and Malcolm Butler,
- 40:31Speaker 11: and who were they going to resign? We were they
- 40:33Speaker 11: going to resign all three? One maybe two of them,
- 40:36Speaker 11: and one ended up happening after sixteen. They franchised Butler,
- 40:41Speaker 11: They trade Jamie Collins miss season Halloween and they they
- 40:45Speaker 11: basically let Dante go to the Steelers and you know,
- 40:49Speaker 11: look a look at an offer from them before he
- 40:51Speaker 11: comes back, and we make an offer.
- 40:53Speaker 12: Too many stays here.
- 40:54Speaker 4: Yeah, and they let them all go.
- 40:56Speaker 6: Basically.
- 40:56Speaker 4: I'm just well, it was it was Chandler, Channel Jones.
- 41:00Speaker 4: We wanted to Chandler Jones, High Tower, Collins with a three,
- 41:04Speaker 4: big money and then and then Butler.
- 41:08Speaker 2: But and I remember talking about it's like this is
- 41:10Speaker 2: the core of the defense for years to come.
- 41:12Speaker 4: And and Patty and Patty's right. The only reason why
- 41:14Speaker 4: High Tower state is because he flunked physical and he
- 41:18Speaker 4: he had offers from Pittsburgh and the Jets. I believe
- 41:21Speaker 4: the Jets were the one that that actually had him
- 41:24Speaker 4: signed and he failed the physical and ended up staying.
- 41:28Speaker 4: But they almost lost all four of them.
- 41:30Speaker 7: Right, And but that point, there was never like these
- 41:33Speaker 7: are the guys that we have to have.
- 41:34Speaker 6: Let's give them the deal.
- 41:35Speaker 7: It was all kind of well, we'll see, and it's
- 41:37Speaker 7: just it felt like it's been like that for a while.
- 41:41Speaker 4: Yeah, And I hope as hold on with that.
- 41:44Speaker 11: I hope they signed to an opera sheet. And I know,
- 41:49Speaker 11: I mean, Sudan's only signed through this year and next year,
- 41:52Speaker 11: so I'm hoping, like if he has another big season,
- 41:55Speaker 11: I mean, he might price himself out of here, but
- 41:57Speaker 11: I would I would like at least like the seed
- 42:00Speaker 11: Duggers stay impossibly u J too, because I'm with you.
- 42:03Speaker 11: I think on when it was gone after this year?
- 42:06Speaker 11: All right, So are you ready.
- 42:08Speaker 4: For this, PAULI, yeah, you gotta make a quick friend's
- 42:10Speaker 4: got an itchy trigger for that's all right.
- 42:13Speaker 11: It's the nineteen ninety four running back edition of Name
- 42:16Speaker 11: That Jersey?
- 42:17Speaker 4: Okay, number forty four John Steven ninety four, ninety four,
- 42:24Speaker 4: number forty forty four.
- 42:26Speaker 6: Marion Butts.
- 42:26Speaker 4: But in nineteen ninety four number forty.
- 42:29Speaker 2: Four, Butts was thirty three, wasn't he.
- 42:31Speaker 4: I'm gonna go marrying Butts just because I have no idea.
- 42:34Speaker 11: Yeah, that's right.
- 42:35Speaker 4: Wait, so Deuce gets a point okay, hit chobd gets
- 42:38Speaker 4: a score twenty six. Cory Krom correct, you didn't even
- 42:46Speaker 4: finish the question. Leroy Thompson, Yes, sir, and the last one.
- 42:50Speaker 11: And I'll cut out here because I know Fred's got
- 42:51Speaker 11: the itchy trigger. Figer number thirty.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Two, Devin mccordy, ty, No, No, it's thirty four thirty
- 43:00Speaker 3: two running back.
- 43:05Speaker 11: It was a full back. I'll give you a head.
- 43:08Speaker 6: Leonard Floyd.
- 43:10Speaker 11: I don't know Andre Bowden and.
- 43:14Speaker 2: Would have never got that.
- 43:15Speaker 6: Never heard that name of my life.
- 43:17Speaker 4: There you go, thanks Patty me twice. Yeah, I didn't
- 43:22Speaker 4: get Marrion, butson I didn't get Cory.
- 43:25Speaker 3: That's July fourth hangover.
- 43:28Speaker 6: Was he kind of saying, like extend Judon?
- 43:30Speaker 7: Was that?
- 43:31Speaker 4: Was that what he was kind of hitting? No, he
- 43:32Speaker 4: was saying, because Judon is going to be gone.
- 43:35Speaker 3: I would pay to I would.
- 43:37Speaker 7: I mean, I just I mean to that At the point,
- 43:39Speaker 7: I feel like it's a little that's a tougher one
- 43:43Speaker 7: for me. But if you're get because Judon is not
- 43:45Speaker 7: going to be here forever, like you don't, don't get
- 43:48Speaker 7: married to your own players, like it's not I think.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Is a better pass rusher than Judon, so I would pay.
- 43:56Speaker 4: But that's just me.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Let's go to Tim and Boston. What's up, Tim?
- 44:01Speaker 13: Hey, guys, how we're doing good?
- 44:03Speaker 2: All right?
- 44:04Speaker 13: So I feel like what I see the general sentiment
- 44:07Speaker 13: of past fans is that we're less optimistic about Mac
- 44:10Speaker 13: Jones being the guy now than we were after his
- 44:14Speaker 13: rookie year. And looking at last year, I don't really
- 44:17Speaker 13: see why that would be the case. Like, look at
- 44:20Speaker 13: what he dealt with. He didn't have an OC, he
- 44:22Speaker 13: had no weapons. The receivers are running into each other,
- 44:25Speaker 13: and I can't think of a quarterback other than Patrick
- 44:27Speaker 13: Mahomes who could have made that offense.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Well, but here's the thing. I hear what you're saying
- 44:30Speaker 2: to him, but if he really was the guy, he
- 44:34Speaker 2: would have still among all that stuff. Well, at least
- 44:37Speaker 2: Mac looks pretty good, and you couldn't say that like
- 44:41Speaker 2: he didn't run Like I'm not saying he should have
- 44:43Speaker 2: like made the playoffs and you know, had five thousand
- 44:46Speaker 2: yards passing, but you would have seen simes that Mac
- 44:49Speaker 2: is better than this and he was just along with it.
- 44:52Speaker 2: You know, there weren't any signs of him rising above
- 44:55Speaker 2: it or you know, you know what I'm saying, yeah, like.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Coming off a rookie that he went in the tank
- 45:02Speaker 4: the last like six weeks of the season. Like, to me,
- 45:06Speaker 4: it was an extension of what was already happening, you know.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Among the mess. Didn't we weren't able to say, well,
- 45:12Speaker 2: at least Max playing well.
- 45:14Speaker 3: You know, I just think that you have to just
- 45:17Speaker 3: the eye test of what he's physically capable of is
- 45:21Speaker 3: still a question mark. Like I think Mac Jones can
- 45:23Speaker 3: be a really good game manager like he was his
- 45:26Speaker 3: rookie season. I think we know that that he can
- 45:28Speaker 3: be somebody that has a two to one touchdown interception ratio,
- 45:32Speaker 3: takes care of the football, makes the offense tick, you know,
- 45:36Speaker 3: to the efficiency that the playmakers around it as the
- 45:39Speaker 3: potential to tick. But is he going to elevate the group?
- 45:43Speaker 3: Is he going to make the wow plays, the plays
- 45:45Speaker 3: out of structure, the plays that he's not expected to
- 45:48Speaker 3: just like hit the seven yard slant, like is he
- 45:51Speaker 3: going to be able to add his own dressing to it?
- 45:53Speaker 3: And I don't think we've seen that yet to say
- 45:56Speaker 3: that he can do that. Can he be really serviceable
- 46:00Speaker 3: NFL starter and carry a good team to ten to
- 46:03Speaker 3: eleven wins. Yeah, I think so, But can he really
- 46:06Speaker 3: push the envelope to make them a Super Bowl contender?
- 46:09Speaker 6: I mean, I just have to.
- 46:11Speaker 7: I can't ignore the context of who he has to
- 46:13Speaker 7: go against. And I mean, you have a Hall of
- 46:14Speaker 7: Fame quarterback in your division. Now you have Josh Allen,
- 46:17Speaker 7: who you've beaten once, you know, recently in a win game,
- 46:21Speaker 7: and to who you haven't beaten yet. So you know,
- 46:23Speaker 7: for as fine as Mac Jones can be, it's it
- 46:26Speaker 7: can't just be fine, Like he has to beat these
- 46:28Speaker 7: guys this year.
- 46:29Speaker 4: And I think this is another one of those things
- 46:31Speaker 4: that more than one thing can be true. I think
- 46:33Speaker 4: that they were set up to fail with the structure
- 46:36Speaker 4: of the offensive coaching staff last year. I think Tim
- 46:38Speaker 4: is exactly right. But I don't think that if you
- 46:41Speaker 4: are a great quarterback that that means you're doomed to fail.
- 46:45Speaker 4: Like I think you overcome that if you have that
- 46:47Speaker 4: kind of ability. Now again, if I'm going to list
- 46:54Speaker 4: the list of problems from last year, certainly Patricia being
- 46:58Speaker 4: offensive coordinator is above Mac Jones, but Mac Jones is
- 47:02Speaker 4: up there. He didn't play well.
- 47:04Speaker 3: I just keep coming back to the same thing with
- 47:05Speaker 3: MACUSI is he going to be along for the ride
- 47:09Speaker 3: or is he going to be pulling the wagon?
- 47:12Speaker 2: Right?
- 47:13Speaker 3: And if it's okay, if he's along for the ride,
- 47:15Speaker 3: but then your team building needs to reflect at the quarterback.
- 47:20Speaker 4: I just think there are so many examples of people
- 47:22Speaker 4: that you could come up with that, and I don't
- 47:25Speaker 4: have a specific one off the top of my head
- 47:27Speaker 4: right now, But like, you know, these quarterbacks who have
- 47:33Speaker 4: a merry go round of offensive coordinators and they flame
- 47:37Speaker 4: out of the league and you're like, oh, that guy's stunk.
- 47:40Speaker 4: He was overrated. You know, no one ever said, well,
- 47:44Speaker 4: you know, what did Zach Wilson have for an offensive coordinator?
- 47:49Speaker 4: Like did anybody ever say that?
- 47:51Speaker 14: No?
- 47:52Speaker 4: And to me, if you were watching Zach Wilson play,
- 47:57Speaker 4: Zack Wilson was part of the problem, a big part
- 47:59Speaker 4: of it. Like I don't think we do that for here.
- 48:03Speaker 4: I don't think we do that with Mac Jones. It
- 48:04Speaker 4: was all Patricia. I think Patricia was a big part
- 48:07Speaker 4: of it. I think Mac Jones was a big part
- 48:08Speaker 4: of it too. I don't think he played well.
- 48:11Speaker 7: Yeah, and he was surrounded by kind of the same
- 48:14Speaker 7: guys in mini camp.
- 48:16Speaker 6: But it's just it looks kind of the same.
- 48:17Speaker 7: I mean, it's just he is what he is, and
- 48:19Speaker 7: you know, until I see him get out there in
- 48:21Speaker 7: a competitive situation and you know, push that envelope a
- 48:24Speaker 7: little bit where all right, they're humming right now and
- 48:26Speaker 7: he's kind of locked in, like you know, I agree
- 48:29Speaker 7: with you know, Tim's general point that there were times
- 48:31Speaker 7: during that rookie season where you know, specifically Cleveland, where
- 48:34Speaker 7: you felt like he was locked in and cooking, and
- 48:37Speaker 7: you know, and there were even some times last year.
- 48:39Speaker 7: You know, they weren't a lot, but you know, but
- 48:41Speaker 7: I think Paul's point about the way that rookie season ended,
- 48:45Speaker 7: getting your doors absolutely blown off in Buffalo, that that
- 48:49Speaker 7: put a shadow over.
- 48:50Speaker 6: That whole sea.
- 48:50Speaker 2: And Evan, I have a question for you, because you know,
- 48:53Speaker 2: you said, you know, it's a possibility he could be
- 48:55Speaker 2: a really good game manager. Yeah, but in today's NFL
- 48:59Speaker 2: is that good enough?
- 49:00Speaker 3: If it is if you build up the roster around
- 49:02Speaker 3: the quarterback.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Well, who's the game manager that is gone to a
- 49:06Speaker 2: super Bowl or wanted or as a game manager?
- 49:12Speaker 3: I think what Jimmy was a couple years ago in
- 49:14Speaker 3: San Francisco is what you would expect Mac to look
- 49:17Speaker 3: like when he has Deebo Samuel and George Kittle and
- 49:20Speaker 3: you know, all these great offensive line play, great scheme,
- 49:24Speaker 3: like everything is is great for him. And if he
- 49:27Speaker 3: can be that, then I think with Belichick and with
- 49:30Speaker 3: Bill O'Brien back, and with all the right coaches in place,
- 49:34Speaker 3: that they could be a team that makes some noise.
- 49:36Speaker 3: But their team building does not reflect that.
- 49:39Speaker 2: So you're saying a team a game manager must have
- 49:43Speaker 2: great players around.
- 49:44Speaker 3: H Yeah, and their team building is not like they
- 49:47Speaker 3: think that Devonte Parker and Kendrick Bourne and Juju Smith
- 49:51Speaker 3: Schuster is enough. So if you feel that way, then
- 49:54Speaker 3: you must really believe in the quarterback because Brady could
- 49:58Speaker 3: win with that. Like if Brady what had these playmakers,
- 50:01Speaker 3: they be the favorites to win the Super Bowl. We
- 50:04Speaker 3: all know that, but they don't. They don't have him anymore,
- 50:07Speaker 3: Like he's not here anymore. You can't run the team
- 50:09Speaker 3: like you still have Tom Brady under center, because you don't.
- 50:11Speaker 3: So that's what has to give to me is you
- 50:14Speaker 3: either need to decide that Mac is just kind of
- 50:17Speaker 3: along for the ride, which means that we have to
- 50:19Speaker 3: sign DeAndre Hopkins and we have to sign Dalvin Cook
- 50:22Speaker 3: and we have to draft receivers every single year and
- 50:24Speaker 3: try to really surround him with superstar talent, or you
- 50:28Speaker 3: have to think that Mac is going to take the
- 50:30Speaker 3: next step and be the guy that's doing heavy lifting.
- 50:32Speaker 3: And I don't know what evidence we have to suggest
- 50:35Speaker 3: that Mac is going to be the one that's going
- 50:37Speaker 3: to be this MVP caliber guy.
- 50:38Speaker 2: Speaking of Shuster, has he been active on social media lately?
- 50:44Speaker 6: I'm not sure, pretty quiet.
- 50:45Speaker 4: I'm lost on social media because you been watching his tech,
- 50:49Speaker 4: You've been threading. Yeah, I don't. I don't do wonder
- 50:52Speaker 4: the best circumstances, but I like, seriously, this stuff that's
- 50:55Speaker 4: going on with Twitter and threads and all these master
- 50:59Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't I don't know where even
- 51:01Speaker 4: to find it.
- 51:01Speaker 2: But I'm just wondering, like, like, where is he?
- 51:04Speaker 3: Where Shoester, He's he's he's been posting. He's big on Instagram.
- 51:08Speaker 6: Okay, all right, and TikTok obviously your share was him.
- 51:12Speaker 2: He's not hiding anything, okay.
- 51:14Speaker 4: And by the way, you know, like the whole game
- 51:16Speaker 4: manager thing, like I agree with the boys here, like
- 51:19Speaker 4: there are always exceptions, and what worries me about you know.
- 51:24Speaker 4: This particular case is usually when you have a young
- 51:27Speaker 4: guy that you know, when you can afford it, you
- 51:31Speaker 4: go out and load it up and then you can
- 51:33Speaker 4: have a game manager. I mean, there'll be a game
- 51:35Speaker 4: manager that that wins it all. I mean, right now,
- 51:37Speaker 4: it's been Brady, it's been Mahomes, you know, and it's
- 51:40Speaker 4: been those guys in the Super Bowl and winning the
- 51:42Speaker 4: Super Bowls. But I'm not going to be stunned if
- 51:47Speaker 4: Brock Purdy is San Francisco's quarterback next year and the
- 51:50Speaker 4: Niners go to the title, Like will.
- 51:52Speaker 6: I'd be surprised.
- 51:53Speaker 4: Yes, I will be surprised, But that's a roster certainly
- 51:57Speaker 4: capable of going to the to the Super Bowl. They
- 51:59Speaker 4: were game away last year.
- 52:02Speaker 7: I mean, I've seen more out of Tua as far
- 52:03Speaker 7: as the game manager to believe that he would be the.
- 52:06Speaker 4: Correct And I'm again I'm not saying like that's what
- 52:08Speaker 4: I think mac Jones, but I'm saying, if mac Jones
- 52:11Speaker 4: turns into a really good game and I think Kirk
- 52:14Speaker 4: Cousins is a game manager and they haven't been able
- 52:18Speaker 4: to win the get like, that's my opinion of the
- 52:20Speaker 4: ceiling for those guys is you could be a playoff team,
- 52:24Speaker 4: but you're not going deep in the playoffs. But there's
- 52:26Speaker 4: always the exception. In San Francisco right now, to me,
- 52:29Speaker 4: is signed up to be.
- 52:30Speaker 2: It's the definition of a game manager. Any quarterback who's
- 52:33Speaker 2: not elite but not bad.
- 52:35Speaker 4: Pretty much good, good, not great. I mean, what's wrong
- 52:39Speaker 4: with that? I like, like, I don't think that that is.
- 52:43Speaker 4: I used to sort of think, like when Brady early
- 52:46Speaker 4: in his career, people tagged him with the game manager thing,
- 52:49Speaker 4: and I used to say, all the time, what's wrong
- 52:50Speaker 4: with that? It's the guy who almost never makes mistakes.
- 52:53Speaker 4: He's the difference between him and average joe. Game manager
- 52:57Speaker 4: was absolutely immense in the watch, Yeah, and Brady had
- 53:02Speaker 4: that from day one, but early on, Yeah, he hitted
- 53:05Speaker 4: the ball off a lot, he relied on his defense
- 53:08Speaker 4: a lot, they punted a lot, and then he made
- 53:10Speaker 4: plays when he had to. You can win like that.
- 53:13Speaker 3: But you mentioned the the rookie contract for the quarterback,
- 53:17Speaker 3: and they haven't done that.
- 53:19Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying.
- 53:20Speaker 3: They haven't maximized the window. And we're sitting here on
- 53:23Speaker 3: July was it six My dates are all messed up.
- 53:26Speaker 3: July sixth, and they have sixteen million dollars in cap
- 53:29Speaker 3: space right now to use right now? Why are you
- 53:32Speaker 3: sitting on sixteen million dollars in cap space when you
- 53:34Speaker 3: have thirty three guys under contract for next year that
- 53:37Speaker 3: aren't on rookie deals, so they have one hundred million
- 53:39Speaker 3: dollars in cap space projected for next year. Why, like,
- 53:43Speaker 3: what are you saving the money for? That's that was
- 53:45Speaker 3: my question, and it's just Kyle Tuger.
- 53:49Speaker 4: They always say, I know this is a Miguel question.
- 53:51Speaker 4: You guys might not know. Miguel would have it right
- 53:53Speaker 4: off to what is the operating costs that you need?
- 53:56Speaker 3: About six million?
- 53:57Speaker 2: Six?
- 53:57Speaker 3: I think is about six But you can always, like
- 54:00Speaker 3: we all know, you can always move the money around
- 54:02Speaker 3: in season to figure it out.
- 54:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 54:05Speaker 6: That's a different thing altogether.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, they always say.
- 54:08Speaker 3: And when Bill went on the real cash spending answer
- 54:11Speaker 3: that he gave a couple of years ago that everybody
- 54:13Speaker 3: Paul's shows loves to play and stuff like that, I
- 54:16Speaker 3: think the main thing that he was trying to get
- 54:18Speaker 3: across is that we spend to the cap. We don't
- 54:21Speaker 3: necessarily hand out bonuses and stuff like that to go
- 54:26Speaker 3: wait over the cap, which is where the real cash
- 54:28Speaker 3: comes in, but we spend to the cap every year.
- 54:30Speaker 3: They are currently not spending to the cap. So you
- 54:34Speaker 3: have this sixteen million dollars in cap space right now.
- 54:37Speaker 3: If it goes to the DeAndre Hopkins tomorrow, then like
- 54:39Speaker 3: I'll get off the soapbox. But like for right now,
- 54:42Speaker 3: you have cap space this year, you have cap space
- 54:45Speaker 3: next year, and you have a team that needs help,
- 54:47Speaker 3: so at some point you have to The cap space
- 54:50Speaker 3: is great to talk about. It's fun. Oh cool, we
- 54:52Speaker 3: have all this cap space. Next year, you need to
- 54:54Speaker 3: fill it with players, like if you're not filling it
- 54:56Speaker 3: with players. And that's why I said, you know, I
- 54:58Speaker 3: would also pay uj because that's a good football player.
- 55:02Speaker 3: That's a double digitsack guy. I think in terms of
- 55:05Speaker 3: like peer one on one pass rushing, he's probably your best.
- 55:08Speaker 3: I'm going to beat the left tackle and I'm going
- 55:10Speaker 3: to get to the quarterback guy on your roster, and
- 55:13Speaker 3: you have all kinds of money. Yeah, So I don't
- 55:16Speaker 3: know what that's the part of it. The rookie contract
- 55:19Speaker 3: thing really bugs me because they have not maximized that window.
- 55:23Speaker 3: They have not gone out except one year max rookie
- 55:26Speaker 3: year in the twenty twenty one free agency. They have
- 55:29Speaker 3: not gone out and paid everybody else around the quarterback
- 55:33Speaker 3: to make the team significantly better around the QB. They've
- 55:37Speaker 3: stuck to their guns on their typical spending model of conservatism.
- 55:42Speaker 3: Really and when he had Brady it worked. I don't
- 55:46Speaker 3: know if that team building strategy works now.
- 55:49Speaker 7: Well, I mean, and to say like they probably wouldn't
- 55:51Speaker 7: ever have had sixteen million in cap space at this
- 55:54Speaker 7: point when Brady was even under contract, right, No, like
- 55:56Speaker 7: like it's it's even worse right now for what max
- 56:00Speaker 7: I mean, it ties into Yeah.
- 56:03Speaker 3: There was probably years where they did, but at the
- 56:05Speaker 3: same time that flexibility was always used eventually, right, So
- 56:10Speaker 3: like the years that I've been covering the team, they
- 56:13Speaker 3: had cap space in nineteen and they gave it to
- 56:16Speaker 3: Antonio Brown and Mohammed Sanu, So they made moves in season.
- 56:20Speaker 3: Now they didn't work out, but they made moves in
- 56:22Speaker 3: season to use that surplus of cap space. So the
- 56:27Speaker 3: rollover cap only matters if you're up against it next year,
- 56:30Speaker 3: but they're not up against it next year, so saving
- 56:32Speaker 3: them the cap space to roll it over, so you're
- 56:35Speaker 3: just instead of one hundred million dollars in cap space.
- 56:37Speaker 3: Now you have one hundred and ten. I don't think
- 56:41Speaker 3: that that's really.
- 56:42Speaker 2: But I think the rule, the CBA rules are I think,
- 56:45Speaker 2: I don't know if it's every three or four years.
- 56:47Speaker 2: You have to true up three years. Yeah, you have
- 56:49Speaker 2: to use it all up. Yeah, you know you can't
- 56:51Speaker 2: hold on to it.
- 56:52Speaker 7: Yeah, And so that's you know, And then I mean
- 56:54Speaker 7: it's a talking point right now, and it's like, do
- 56:55Speaker 7: you do you want to be in the top cash
- 56:57Speaker 7: spending team every single season?
- 56:58Speaker 6: Like I don't think.
- 56:59Speaker 3: Well, so that's why the business That was the other
- 57:01Speaker 3: thing that he said and I that I think is accurate.
- 57:04Speaker 3: Teams don't look at it at a one year to
- 57:06Speaker 3: year basis when it comes to cash, they look at
- 57:08Speaker 3: it in a three year span. So, because they spent
- 57:11Speaker 3: all that money in twenty twenty one, the twenty twenty
- 57:14Speaker 3: two and twenty twenty three budgets go down to make
- 57:17Speaker 3: up for the fact that they spent all that money
- 57:19Speaker 3: in twenty one. So and in some respects I understand
- 57:23Speaker 3: what he was He gets killed for it, now, that's
- 57:26Speaker 3: what that's what Bill was talking about right for three years.
- 57:28Speaker 3: But I understand what he was saying from a budgeting
- 57:31Speaker 3: standpoint for them what they're doing. But I don't care
- 57:34Speaker 3: about if they I don't care if they they spend
- 57:37Speaker 3: four hundred million, five hundred million dollars in the football team,
- 57:41Speaker 3: can you at least spend to the cap? Like and
- 57:43Speaker 3: it's not it just this is why, Like DeAndre Hopkins
- 57:46Speaker 3: is sitting out there, Like, how is DeAndre Hopkins not
- 57:48Speaker 3: a Patriot by now?
- 57:49Speaker 2: Like what?
- 57:50Speaker 3: And if it's if it's if it's Hopkins, then I
- 57:53Speaker 3: can't blame them for the fact that Hopkins doesn't want
- 57:55Speaker 3: to come here, right, Like, I can't hold that against them.
- 57:58Speaker 3: But if it's Bacon, if it's money, like if it's
- 58:03Speaker 3: like if it's a difference between a couple of million
- 58:05Speaker 3: on a contract, and then that's that's not a good look.
- 58:09Speaker 4: I also wonder if he's not getting blown away. I
- 58:12Speaker 4: think he's just Fred said it early in the show.
- 58:14Speaker 4: I think he's just content to wait it out and
- 58:16Speaker 4: wait till camp is here and he doesn't want to like.
- 58:19Speaker 2: Or camp is over.
- 58:21Speaker 4: I don't know if he'll wait all the way till
- 58:22Speaker 4: camp is over, but I wouldn't be surprised if he
- 58:24Speaker 4: waits till camp starts.
- 58:26Speaker 3: If he signs next week, and then he claims that
- 58:28Speaker 3: he needs two weeks to get his body right to
- 58:29Speaker 3: get up to speed, and then all surprised, we see
- 58:32Speaker 3: him joint practices in Green Bay for the first time.
- 58:34Speaker 6: Like that's sort of like hamstring.
- 58:36Speaker 4: Yeah great, okay, well ahead, go to Will.
- 58:41Speaker 2: He's been wining will Is in Arkansas? What's up? Will it?
- 58:44Speaker 9: Will?
- 58:45Speaker 12: Hey guys, y'all were talking a little bit about quarterback
- 58:50Speaker 12: talk game managers though raised on calling. It's you know,
- 58:54Speaker 12: not so much a former game manager, but former gun slinger.
- 59:00Speaker 12: I didn't get to colin last week. But huge props
- 59:03Speaker 12: of the team, Bill Tom and all the others for
- 59:07Speaker 12: the tributes for Ryan Mallett. Yeah, yep, yeah, I mean
- 59:14Speaker 12: it was you know, it was a whole shock for
- 59:17Speaker 12: the state and for me and other Patriot fans that
- 59:20Speaker 12: are fans of the Razorbacks. You know, it was really
- 59:25Speaker 12: a double whammy for us.
- 59:26Speaker 2: Had Ryan like gone does he do had he been
- 59:29Speaker 2: doing a lot in Arkansas? Like, had he gone back
- 59:31Speaker 2: and done stuff after his college days?
- 59:36Speaker 12: Yeah, a little bit after he got done playing with
- 59:40Speaker 12: the Ravens, he went to coaching. He was an assistant
- 59:43Speaker 12: coach at one High school last year was his first
- 59:49Speaker 12: year as a head coach, and another high school about
- 59:54Speaker 12: thirty miles south of Little Rock. You know, there was
- 59:57Speaker 12: you know, there were people cheering him on, wishing him well,
- 1:00:00Speaker 12: and then they was having last week with the drowning,
- 1:00:05Speaker 12: and you know, his player's assistants were just all horror
- 1:00:11Speaker 12: proven by the news. Yeah, just thirty five years old
- 1:00:15Speaker 12: and tough, you know, four years older than me. You know,
- 1:00:19Speaker 12: I'm thirty one now.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, thanks for the call.
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: Well, and that's what a lot of the Patriots said
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: that he well, I think maybe Bill said it somewhere
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: that he always wanted to He always said he wanted
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: to be a coach, and that's exactly the path that
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: he was on.
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: When you saw him at camp. Was that did his
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: arm just jump off the field with how how.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: He had a good arm? No, but did not Contrary
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: to Mike Mayock's statement one year, I he looked like
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: a guy who had trouble. First of all, you had
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: definite trouble changing speeds, and I think Josh mentioned that
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: in one of the things that I read. And he
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: had accuracy issues. But yeah, he could throw. I mean
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: he could definitely quote unquote make all the throws. But
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: unlike the guys that you say can't make all the throws,
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: the ones he had trouble making well the quote unquote
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: easier ones. It's like, you know the timing routes in
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: the backfield, you know the checkdowns, and he had trouble
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: with those. He did, But I mean there was definite
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: skill there and by all accounts, a terrific kid that
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: did everything that was askeable.
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, take a break Paul's foods here, we'll
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: be right back after this.

- 1:13:08Speaker 6: Yeah, and that that to me is like, see.
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: I don't cut this a couple of hours.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: I don't. I don't like having to be in a
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: place where I know I'm gonna have to move as
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: soon as they call my name. I like to just
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: be where I'm gonna be and settle in. You fat, No,
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: it's not about lazy. I don't want to move. That's
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: another great moment from all Right. Welcome back to Patriots
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: Unfiltered Past five hundred. Is the ACE ticket hutline web
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: radio at Patriots dot com. Is the email address. It's Deuce,
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: it's Evan, It's Paul, it's myself here in a lazy
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Thursday afternoon dog days of the NFL. It's it's been
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: dog days, you know. Other than you know, the the
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: early stuff with Hopkins that happened, you know, it's been
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: pretty quiet.
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: The extensions are nice. Last week gave us something to
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: talk about.
- 1:13:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:13:59Speaker 7: I well, I got away from it from a couple
- 1:14:00Speaker 7: of weeks, but I'm feeling pretty excited.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: I guess Jack Jones too. I can't forget that.
- 1:14:05Speaker 7: Was there any more any more scuttle bit about that
- 1:14:08Speaker 7: because I kept seeing as people say that there might be.
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: But this is not the time for me to go
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: on this random like stop believing everything that you read
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: on Twitter, Like, please like some random Twitter account that
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: claims that he writes for the Athletic and then like
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: people are like, oh, like, where did you read this?
- 1:14:24Speaker 3: And he shares a link that doesn't go to anywhere.
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: It's like, can we just have a little bit of
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: effort to figure out if this person is actually a real.
- 1:14:32Speaker 6: So what did that full person say.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: That the chargers against Jack Jones had been dropped? And
- 1:14:38Speaker 3: I got I had real life people DM ing me
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: on Twitter asking me if that was accurate.
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: Yeah, well I had.
- 1:14:46Speaker 7: I took four plane flights and every single time we
- 1:14:48Speaker 7: were going through security, my kids would look at like,
- 1:14:50Speaker 7: they don't bring loaded guns into Big Dad.
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: Look there it is.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: Well Johnson and Porter Lake Porter's Lake, Nova, Scotia. I
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: was listening to one of Paul's shows when they mentioned
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: the Jim Irsay collection coming to Boston. I'm not sure
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: the new Staffords would have as much insight as Paul
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: and Fred. Are you able to share any cool collectibles
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: that you've seen or heard about? Robert Kraft having Jim
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: Irsay has unbelievable collection of not just guitars, but other
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: stuff too, really, you know, like stuff from movies. And
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: he's a collector. He's a true collector. Spends a lot
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: of money, got a bunch of money. Yeah, and Robert.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: I don't know if it's stuff he's collected, but stuff
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: he's been given. That car, he's got that ya blue.
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: But he's got some cool stuff that's been given to
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: him as gifts, and none of them I can remember
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: right now. But I just know that he's got a
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: lot of a lot of cool stuff over the years
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: that has been given to him.
- 1:15:51Speaker 6: Yeah, you got any cool stuff, Paul, No.
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: He was asking if Fred and I might know things
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: that Robert has. I just let Fred answer that because
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: I would not be privy to that the way Fred.
- 1:16:03Speaker 6: Is, no one ever gave you a Bentley or anything.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: Paul.
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: I always like chance he stuck you, remember, Yeah, he's
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: actually the Baylor wide receiver coach coach Taekwon Thorton.
- 1:16:12Speaker 7: Ah bring it all.
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: To Chancy Stucky. I always liked him. Yeah, I don't
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: know what cool.
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: He's like your Kiki Kuti guys.
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: Oh, he's a lot better than Keith.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: What's the coolest thing that you own? Like of that
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: ilk deuce?
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: I don't have anything that's cool.
- 1:16:31Speaker 6: I got to get your rings.
- 1:16:32Speaker 7: I gotta think for a second.
- 1:16:34Speaker 6: You're right, Yeah, some people might.
- 1:16:37Speaker 7: I mean I do, I really might like my grandfather's
- 1:16:39Speaker 7: scrap books are pretty cool. Okay, I know that that's
- 1:16:41Speaker 7: not like a fancy thing, but there's a lot of
- 1:16:43Speaker 7: really cool history in those and stuff.
- 1:16:45Speaker 6: So that's that's one.
- 1:16:46Speaker 7: I found a random like bullet musket and like a
- 1:16:50Speaker 7: sandpit growing up, and I always thought that was kind
- 1:16:51Speaker 7: of cool. I mean I'm talking like, you know, average people,
- 1:16:54Speaker 7: things like I found an artifact in a sand pit
- 1:16:57Speaker 7: once and I collected it, but not a lot. I
- 1:17:01Speaker 7: mean I got some some old family stuff, but that's
- 1:17:03Speaker 7: about it.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: Nothing but about you. But I imagine you have some
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: cool things. Yeah.
- 1:17:07Speaker 4: I have a lot of.
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: Sports memorabilia stuff. I was really into that as as
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: a kid. So for like presence, like for birthdays and
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: stuff like that, I would I would ask for a
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: lot of that kind of stuff. My my grandfather has.
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: You know that he passed down to me when he
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: passed away, an autographed Joe DiMaggio picture that's like one
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: in a thousand or something like that. So that one
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: is worth like a little bit of something, not like
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: millions of dollars, but like you know, maybe a thousand
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: or something like that.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: Probably more real collector.
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's worth a little something, and then I
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: have some things that were gifted to me, like I
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: have a game used David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez bat
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: like the actor actual bat that they use in the game,
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: and you know stuff like like kind of stuff like that.
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: But the Demaggio thing is the is the rarest thing
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: in that house.
- 1:17:58Speaker 7: I know somebody who has in jac ass and game ball.
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: Oh yeah, jeez.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: Yeah. I have a Gil Hodges autograph I got when
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: I was like six years old that I can't find
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: right now. He was the manager of the Mets. He
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: came into my father's hardware store when I was like six.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: Football autographed by our Steve Grogan. Yeah that my dad
- 1:18:21Speaker 3: wanted an auction.
- 1:18:22Speaker 7: Everybody's got a Bobby or autograph, right like you're just
- 1:18:24Speaker 7: issued those and you're born here in Boston.
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: I actually had his book and he signed it.
- 1:18:30Speaker 6: Mother got it for me. That was that was the
- 1:18:32Speaker 6: VIP package.
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: When you do you have your Hall of Fame ring
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: still from b U No got rid of it.
- 1:18:38Speaker 6: Just the bust. They did a bust of them. What
- 1:18:41Speaker 6: do you have from that certificate? It's right next to
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: his game like a little plaque.
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: You got a plaque I do not have it with
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: my gambling certification.
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: Hall of Fame took a test.
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: So it's funny because the listeners might find that kind
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: of interesting.
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:18:58Speaker 4: I always sort of make that comment, like I have
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: my I took the course that we had everybody is
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: required to take, and that's kind of gotten into the
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: news lately, all these players getting caught.
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: And Jonathan was it Jonathan Jones that said, you know,
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: we put our body in the line, but.
- 1:19:13Speaker 6: One of the one of the time, like somebody.
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: Can sit him down and explain to him all the
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: bad things that can.
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: Happen, like maybe on the week that you don't bet
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: on your team.
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: Exactly, or if you get in the hole a lot
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: and you start chasing and then it, you know, someone
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: makes you an offer, you know, like in that you know.
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: Not Florio is like he makes a good point.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: Not a good point has.
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: Been Florio has been on one.
- 1:19:40Speaker 7: Yeah, decided to dig up like an old bill quote.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: It was from the owners meetings as a mister craft
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: quote about cash spending from the owners meetings that he
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: then somehow resurfaces three months even Badard quote tweeted it
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: and was like this was three months old, Like I
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: don't know why.
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's think about it this way. What if you
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: were a parent, It's like, you know, I'm gonna start
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: betting on my kids' grades in school. You know, like
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: there's a lot of motivation there to like do things
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: that you shouldn't be doing. You know, it's such a weird.
- 1:20:13Speaker 7: I mean, we don't have to get into it, but
- 1:20:15Speaker 7: I mean the amount of money that pumped in this
- 1:20:16Speaker 7: league by those but.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: So, yeah, I didn't mean to get off on that tangent.
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: But you know I talk about, Yeah, I print out
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: those certificates just in case they check I have them.
- 1:20:25Speaker 6: Yeah, don't need it, don't you know?
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: I needed it because they said that I didn't complete.
- 1:20:29Speaker 4: It wasn't gambling specific. It was part of the rest
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: of the training, but I had to certificate to show them.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: And I was like, right here, do you take it
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: out of the frame. Something must have happened. Yeah, must
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: have been a glitch.
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, like I said, somebody needs to sit
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: Jonathan Jones down and explain to him why you can't
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: do it. You just can't. It's not a matter of
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: principle or unfairness. It's just not good.
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: And I would just say, like, if things go in
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: credibly well and exceed all of your expectations, you're gonna
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: have a ten year career.
- 1:21:04Speaker 6: Yeah, you can't wait ten years to bet.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: Right right, need the juice And if you truly can't wait,
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: then you have a problem, and that's that's not good.
- 1:21:15Speaker 7: And you could bet on other teams other sports outside
- 1:21:17Speaker 7: of the building.
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: Right, Well, that's a weird part to me about the rule.
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: So they can't bet on NFL games, which is obvious,
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: but they can bet on NBA games as long as
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: they're outside the facility. But like a lot of I mean,
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: we saw we were talking about that Michael Rubin fanatics party.
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: Like a lot of these people run in similar circles, right,
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: So like if they're thinking of betting on an NBA game,
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: and like somebody on the Patriots Texas Jason Tatum and
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: is like, hey, like are you playing to night like
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: or what's going on?
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying.
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: So I don't understand how that's like inside and really
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: any different.
- 1:21:51Speaker 6: That's probably why we can't.
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: I can't. I can't believe that they are allowed to
- 1:21:55Speaker 4: bet on other sports. But I also would say in
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: the players defense, That's where I would go with the
- 1:22:02Speaker 4: Jonathan Jones side, Like, so you lose six games because
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: you put that bet in in the parking lot instead
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: of waiting till you got on Route one. Like that
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: doesn't seem right to me.
- 1:22:15Speaker 2: That's Jameson Williams. Yeah, let's see about hop signing Hopkins.
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: L from Wisconsin says, Mike is totally right. The team
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: needs a guy like Hopkins. However, that's been the case
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: since like twenty nineteen, and the team has really shown
- 1:22:29Speaker 2: no interest in adding someone there. I don't know if
- 1:22:32Speaker 2: they'll sign Hopkins, but the fact that he isn't here
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: means to me that they didn't prioritize going out and
- 1:22:38Speaker 2: getting him. I think they're fully okay letting him go
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: if a place like Tennessee is willing to go over
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: Bill's wide receiver value. Now, we can't forget two years
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: ago when they had that spending spree. I mean, you know,
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: the guys didn't or haven't worked out yet, but they
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: but they signed spend a lot of money on Bagalore
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: and Parker last year. You know. So it's they have
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: signed wide receivers and it's just not the right big
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: money doing it.
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: It's not big money though, Like they've signed wide receivers
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: at a certain level of wide receivers spend.
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: It, right, But two years ago they they bought the
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: best guys on the market.
- 1:23:17Speaker 6: Right, Well, I don't think debatable.
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: I'm talking about free agent, not raids or anything like that.
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: I mean, you're talking about Agalore and Borne. Yeah, I
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: don't think so.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: Who was better at the time that was available.
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: Corey Davis was the best wide receiver available in.
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: That class, the one that popped in my mind.
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: Okay, to the masses, But the main point I was
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: making wasn't the certain Nelson Agilar got a two year,
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: twenty two million dollar deal. Next year tyreek Kill is
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: going to get thirty million for one year, right So there,
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: it's not top of the market money that they've spent.
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: They've spent in the same the same bracket that they
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: always spend it, which is this middle tier six to
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: eleven million.
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: Which I always complained about because they paid a lot
- 1:23:59Speaker 4: of money for Nelson Agalore. That was a lot Like
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: to me, that was a lot of money for him. Yeah,
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: I would rather spend twice that on someone I think
- 1:24:08Speaker 4: is worth it, rather than a complimentary piece. That's where
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: I always get frustrated with, Like, that's why I always
- 1:24:17Speaker 4: push back at the people say they're cheap. I don't
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: think they're cheap. I think they spend their money in
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: a way that I wouldn't. They're so hell bent on
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: their roster construction that they won't deviate from it.
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: They won't.
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: They don't want Like, there's a reason why people like
- 1:24:34Speaker 4: Adam Schefter make those comments about Jujus Smith. Schuster is
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: the highest paid wide receiver in the run because they're
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: trying to establish what the hierarchy is and no one
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: can make more than X, and I think that's a
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: I don't want four guys making X. I want two
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: guys making X and two guys making way above that
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: X times three whatever that happens to be.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: Speing Fresdo on the issue, Mike and Evan mentioned earlier
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: that the Patriots have oodles of cap space in the
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: coming years owing to not paying for big time talent.
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: I kind of have this belief that Bill thinks the
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: team's history of outrageous success is rooted mostly in the
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: strong middle classes, built more than it was based on Iran,
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: more than it was based on the superhuman spackle. That
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: was Tom Brady. I don't think Bill sees it any
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: differently even to this day, and that's a big reason
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: the offensive roster is what it currently is. I see
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: that aspect of the GM's team building strategy as the
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: albatross in the room, quietly weighing the team down, amy
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: exaggerating the issue.
- 1:25:37Speaker 7: Well, I would just bring up the draft because I think,
- 1:25:39Speaker 7: you know, that's a way to get around all this,
- 1:25:41Speaker 7: and you know, and sure we'd all be happy to
- 1:25:43Speaker 7: welcome DeAndre Hopkins here for you know whatever I mean
- 1:25:47Speaker 7: at this point with the cast space that they have.
- 1:25:49Speaker 7: But I just think the real answer is not about
- 1:25:53Speaker 7: the lack of going out and spending a bunch of
- 1:25:55Speaker 7: money on a free agent. It's it's not drafting guys
- 1:25:58Speaker 7: that you can develop. And we all know the list
- 1:25:59Speaker 7: of that they passed up to take other different receivers.
- 1:26:02Speaker 6: And YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 1:26:04Speaker 7: But that I think that's to me, is where the
- 1:26:06Speaker 7: biggest problem is. I mean, it'd be a good problem
- 1:26:08Speaker 7: to have to be looking at Deebo Samuel and be saying,
- 1:26:11Speaker 7: let's give him the contract. He's we drafted him, we
- 1:26:13Speaker 7: developed him, go for the moon. To pay him, and
- 1:26:16Speaker 7: it's just it's hard to imagine that, say Nikhil Harry
- 1:26:20Speaker 7: was a superstar, that Nikil Harrey would still be here,
- 1:26:23Speaker 7: you know, like like they would probably ride him for
- 1:26:26Speaker 7: all he was worse.
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: That's my biggest problem. If taekwon, Thoughton rips it up
- 1:26:29Speaker 4: the next three next three years, you think they're resigning
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: him right on top of the market.
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: I don't think they're resigning anybody, Like who do you like?
- 1:26:35Speaker 7: I mean, we like Dugart absolutely, but after that love
- 1:26:39Speaker 7: that email, the next one it's it's it's you got
- 1:26:42Speaker 7: all this money and no one to spend it on.
- 1:26:44Speaker 6: It feels like unless you do another twenty twenty one.
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: And to Fred's point, it's it's risky. Not all those
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: guys are going to work out. A couple probably will,
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: but not all of them. But it's such a good
- 1:26:52Speaker 3: point about their their draft strategy is in the short term,
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: they don't really draft receivers high, like taekwond in draft
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: gets drafted fiftieth overall, and then they don't draft a
- 1:27:03Speaker 3: receiver this year until the sixth round because they don't
- 1:27:06Speaker 3: want to spend at the top of the draft in
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: terms of draft capital. Again on that position, but then
- 1:27:11Speaker 3: they also probably won't spend on on Taekwon Thorton in
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: four years if he ends up being a good player.
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: So it's like, you have to have one. You gotta,
- 1:27:18Speaker 3: you gotta at some point, you gotta, you gotta pony
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: up some somewhere, either with a first round draft pick
- 1:27:24Speaker 3: or with money, Like there has to be something going
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: to that position to move the needle.
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: Especially today's NFL Willhelm and Philam on the Ace ticket houtline.
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: What's up, William?
- 1:27:36Speaker 21: What's going on for how you're doing all right?
- 1:27:39Speaker 7: Uh?
- 1:27:39Speaker 21: Is there interference or anything?
- 1:27:41Speaker 12: Uh?
- 1:27:42Speaker 21: Your podcast.
- 1:27:44Speaker 6: And there's not even any beating today.
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: I don't know, are you hearing?
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: At the very beginning of the show, we had a
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: little bit of an audio issue, but that was cleared
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: up immediately.
- 1:27:55Speaker 21: When you when you're talking whatnot? Is it seem like
- 1:27:58Speaker 21: it's just a little bit interferencing and everything players up after.
- 1:28:00Speaker 12: That it isn't.
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: I don't know, okay, But other.
- 1:28:04Speaker 21: Than that, my question question for Evan, So Evan, how
- 1:28:09Speaker 21: much did we give Antonio Brown? How much did I'm sorry,
- 1:28:11Speaker 21: how much did Bill Belichick give Antonio Brown?
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: That was a nice contract. That they gave Antonio Brown.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: I thought it was nine million.
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't remember it off the top of my head,
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: but it was. It was a decent amount of money.
- 1:28:23Speaker 21: Okay. So with that, and also with Paul saying they
- 1:28:26Speaker 21: overpaid for Nelson Aguilar, Sam Hockey, he's sitting there. I mean,
- 1:28:31Speaker 21: I don't I'm just like you, Evan. I don't understand
- 1:28:35Speaker 21: you got you sitting on sixteen mil million? Why I
- 1:28:38Speaker 21: don't understand why you ain't signing? What are you waiting for?
- 1:28:41Speaker 21: Because if he gets picked up, you that's it?
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: Why? That's it? Am I?
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: Right?
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: Am I right? Saying that there is an offer out there.
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: I would assume that I do not know that.
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: So if he agreed to the offer today, they signed him.
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: But obviously the offer is not big enough where he say,
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: all right, he's gonna jump.
- 1:29:04Speaker 4: But you're saying makes sense, I do not know that
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: for one.
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not like I think they would sign him
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: if he would take the offer. But right now, the
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: offer isn't enough to make him move, right.
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: But I think people like Mike and Evan are of
- 1:29:18Speaker 4: the mindset, like, make the offer that you know he'll take, Well,
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: that's it. Like you need this guy.
- 1:29:23Speaker 7: But if you know that he's his thinking is I'm
- 1:29:25Speaker 7: gonna wait till camp. Do you still make the offer
- 1:29:27Speaker 7: now and let him sit on it? Or do you
- 1:29:28Speaker 7: hold back on the offer until you know he wants
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: When we.
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: Want to tell you what the Red Sox would do
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: and the Patriots have done in the past, why do
- 1:29:36Speaker 4: we want to do what the Red Sox and the
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: and the Patriots have done in the past with a
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: couple of guys. Yesterday's offer ain't today's offer. So you
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: want to wait till training camp?
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe it's see what happens. Yeah, I just I
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: never would have let let him leave the building quite honestly.
- 1:29:52Speaker 21: So true. Just one more question, real and I'm out
- 1:29:59Speaker 21: your way to do to you always stay the draft.
- 1:30:02Speaker 21: I agree with you, it was I really do. Okay,
- 1:30:05Speaker 21: it's just look at look at their history, the drafting receivers.
- 1:30:09Speaker 21: I don't find this steward. This is the only team
- 1:30:12Speaker 21: that can just, you like, fit up when it comes
- 1:30:15Speaker 21: to a received I don't understand why y'all can't identify.
- 1:30:19Speaker 21: It's like it's kryptonite to the Patriots for some reason.
- 1:30:22Speaker 21: I don't I don't know, I.
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: Know it's it's true because that's what that's one of
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: the only positions that these young guys leave here and
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: they don't do anything anywhere else. There's a lot of
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: positions that they draft, you know, whether the mid round picks,
- 1:30:36Speaker 4: late round picks. You know, you see some promises, you know,
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: guys catch on elsewhere they receive, like like Taylor Price,
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: Nikhil Harry, Aaron Dobson, Brandon Tate, like these guys with
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: Josh boy really Josh Boyce, and I like I liked boys.
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: I did, I like boys, but none of those guys
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: ever went somewhere up. So it's not even like you
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: could say, well it's a development problem, like they're not
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: developing the receivers. No, they're picking the wrong ones. They're
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: not doing anything anywhere else either.
- 1:31:13Speaker 7: And it's funny like not to like put too much,
- 1:31:15Speaker 7: but I mean, you know, I followed the draft when
- 1:31:17Speaker 7: I was Patriots blogger boy and pomp palm ware and
- 1:31:20Speaker 7: doing all that stuff. And even then it was like
- 1:31:23Speaker 7: Aaron Dawson, like Nikhil.
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: Harriet, like like even that guy that blogger like it.
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: Was it was scratch. It's just over the years, it's
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: just been too much going against rain Jermaine cunning Hand,
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: things like that. It's just overthinking it.
- 1:31:39Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, and it's like if you're gonna, I
- 1:31:41Speaker 7: don't know, there's just been so many you can go
- 1:31:44Speaker 7: back and rewrite it and you know, say they could
- 1:31:46Speaker 7: have had this, they could have had that. But like
- 1:31:48Speaker 7: it just it doesn't seem that hard to look at
- 1:31:50Speaker 7: a J. Brown and Deebo Samuel and say, these guys
- 1:31:52Speaker 7: pit exactly the kind of what they tell us they want, tough,
- 1:31:56Speaker 7: versatile players that don't.
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: Don't get me started about debo.
- 1:32:00Speaker 6: I mean, it's not hard.
- 1:32:01Speaker 7: And I mean even you know, the guys who should
- 1:32:03Speaker 7: be like I love every pick were like, really, like
- 1:32:06Speaker 7: that doesn't seem like you're kind of guy, Like that
- 1:32:08Speaker 7: doesn't seem what I just there's been so many of those,
- 1:32:11Speaker 7: like like you said, I mean, on both sides of
- 1:32:13Speaker 7: the ball, but but specifically the receiver. It's hard to
- 1:32:15Speaker 7: remember the last time they drafted a wide receiver that
- 1:32:18Speaker 7: you were like, Oh, this guy's going to be good,
- 1:32:21Speaker 7: this is what they need. Like even Thornton, You're like, Okay,
- 1:32:23Speaker 7: that doesn't really seem like they're kind of guy though He's.
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: When they drafted when they drafted Thornton, I was like,
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: so he ran a four two eight and you drafted
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: him the second round like that needed because because his
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: film was not I mean, he had good stats at
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: Baylor his last year there, I think almost put up
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: like a thousand yards in their offense and was a
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: productive player. But he was a productive player because he
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: ran away from everybody at the college level. Right it's
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: his wide open game and he runs his four two eight.
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: It's just basically like running one hundred meter and he's
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: and he's the fastest guy on the field. But he
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: his route running was raw in college. Like his ability
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: to really break down and get open at the top
- 1:32:58Speaker 3: of the route and do all those things was was
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: a developmental project to begin with. And then you add
- 1:33:04Speaker 3: on top of their their failures in the draft of
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: that position, you're like, so you drafted a developmental receiver
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: which you can't develop, So like forget about Like, you know,
- 1:33:16Speaker 3: I know everybody, George Pickens is like the one that
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: everybody's like, well, why didn't they draft George Pickens? But
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: there was also guys, you know, like Alex Pierce, who's
- 1:33:23Speaker 3: had a decent rookie season with Indianapolis, Like these were
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: guys were finished, Like they were like finished more finished
- 1:33:28Speaker 3: products coming in, you know, and they had some more
- 1:33:31Speaker 3: polished to them and some more experience. And it was like,
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: if you can't develop the position, then you at least
- 1:33:37Speaker 3: go for the high floor guy, like and you at
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: least just get a guy that can play right and
- 1:33:42Speaker 3: like forget about trying to chase the four two eight
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: speedster ceiling type players. And but I will say, like
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: to be fair to them, there's also like a little
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: bit of a chicken or the egg situation with the
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: draft of that they don't really use very many high
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: picks on receivers. So you know, it's.
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: As we know, is that's why Nikhil Harry was such
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: a bust. I mean, they finally did and they picked
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: the wrong one, you know.
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: I mean I think, yeah, but even him is just
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: thirty second overall. Like it's not like they drafted him
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: in the top ten, right, So my point is you
- 1:34:15Speaker 3: know that they don't you have to be fair in
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: the fact that they're near the bottom of the league
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: in like first round picks, top fifty picks, top one
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: hundred picks use at that position. They just don't value it.
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: They just don't value it. And we might all we
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: valuated a ton or I valuated a ton, and maybe
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: like they're right and I'm wrong about it. But I
- 1:34:35Speaker 3: just look at the rest of the league, like I
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: look at what the other teams are doing, and what
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: the other teams value and what they see and at
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: their receiver position, and they are all skewing towards throwing
- 1:34:45Speaker 3: every single asset at possible draft picks, money, whatever to
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: get those guys in the building. And the Patriots just don't.
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: They just don't see it as an important like investment.
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: Dan and Virginia and Michigan. Uh, to hark back to
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: an old PFW argument. Given the definition you've just given
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: of a game manager quarterback, compare and contrasts the relative
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: skill levels of a game manager quarterback and a journeyman quarterback.
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: Journeyman's are a lot of teams.
- 1:35:16Speaker 2: Yeah, journeyman's aren't. They're not as good.
- 1:35:18Speaker 7: They're usually game managers who just can't really share a
- 1:35:21Speaker 7: starting job.
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: And that is both a game manager and a journeyman, right, perfect.
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: And I mean and Jimmy Garoppolo is slowly.
- 1:35:28Speaker 7: Becoming a game manager and a journeyman, like you know,
- 1:35:31Speaker 7: it's third team now.
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: Yeah, but he never played for the Patriots, so like
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: that one doesn't really but like yeah, like I think
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: once you start bouncing around from team to team, but.
- 1:35:42Speaker 6: Those are the guys, right, I mean, that's what you
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: want to back up quarterback.
- 1:35:44Speaker 7: You want a guy who's smart, who's not going to
- 1:35:46Speaker 7: come in and throw terrible, you know, picks and make
- 1:35:49Speaker 7: bad decisions and it's just gonna you know, keep things
- 1:35:51Speaker 7: steady for.
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: A little while.
- 1:35:52Speaker 7: Yeah, Like, like Brian Hoyer is a journeyman if there
- 1:35:55Speaker 7: ever was one, right, but not a game manager now
- 1:35:58Speaker 7: because he doesn't play, doesn't.
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: He didn't manage it, doesn't manage well, yeah, game managers
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: don't throw picks.
- 1:36:05Speaker 6: But that's kind of what you thought.
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: I mean that's when you when you know they kept
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: bringing him back.
- 1:36:08Speaker 7: You're like, well, he knows the system and he'll come
- 1:36:10Speaker 7: in and he's not gonna you know, go crazy and
- 1:36:12Speaker 7: lose his mind out there.
- 1:36:13Speaker 6: And I mean he went crazy and lost his mind.
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: But uh, let's see. Ricardo from Italy a big fan
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: of the show. After the Juwan Bentley extension, what do
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: you think of his future as a Patriot and what
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: are you are your expectations in the coming season four him.
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: He'll keep signing two year incentive lative deals until he retires.
- 1:36:36Speaker 6: I don't know. I think he's a good thing.
- 1:36:39Speaker 4: It's been.
- 1:36:40Speaker 7: I just I would say Jawan Bentley can play on
- 1:36:43Speaker 7: my team anytime. Like that guy, the way, the way
- 1:36:46Speaker 7: he talks, the way he plays, the way he prepares.
- 1:36:48Speaker 6: I mean, he's just he does everything right.
- 1:36:50Speaker 7: And I I, like I said at the top, I
- 1:36:52Speaker 7: just I'm surprised that I think it would have been
- 1:36:54Speaker 7: more impactful to me if they had signed him to
- 1:36:56Speaker 7: a four year deal two years ago than to two
- 1:36:58Speaker 7: year deals back to back where it just seems like
- 1:37:00Speaker 7: they're kind of kicking the can down the road. It
- 1:37:02Speaker 7: just signals this is a guy we love, we want
- 1:37:04Speaker 7: him here for the long term.
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: When Palm constructs his team, Bentley's on it because he's
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: a good guy. Yeah yeah, well me yeah, solid guy.
- 1:37:12Speaker 6: Plus he can play.
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: I don't think what the good guys that can't play.
- 1:37:15Speaker 4: I think he fills the roles tough.
- 1:37:16Speaker 7: He's hard, nos, And I mean I think like this
- 1:37:18Speaker 7: kind of goes to what Evan was saying too, is
- 1:37:20Speaker 7: like I just I think they really value, for right
- 1:37:23Speaker 7: or wrong, they value toughness, like that's like the element
- 1:37:26Speaker 7: that we want to beat teams up. We want to
- 1:37:28Speaker 7: draft Nikhil Harry. He's a big guy. He's going to
- 1:37:31Speaker 7: be a tough, physical matchup. I don't think that they
- 1:37:33Speaker 7: value speed and explosiveness as much as we want to
- 1:37:38Speaker 7: physically manhandle teams. And I don't know if that's a
- 1:37:40Speaker 7: direct kind of correlation to the league evolving into smaller,
- 1:37:44Speaker 7: faster guys and we want to be the big beast.
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: But I still think his two thousand and four right well.
- 1:37:48Speaker 7: And I mean, and even a team like Tennessee that
- 1:37:50Speaker 7: I feel like has executed that as actually executed that
- 1:37:53Speaker 7: game plan where they've had a big, you know, tough
- 1:37:55Speaker 7: team with good lines and you know, but they have
- 1:37:57Speaker 7: a J. Brown and they have Derrick Henry who gives
- 1:37:59Speaker 7: their whole team that personality. I feel like the Patriots
- 1:38:03Speaker 7: kinda flirt with it, like, yes, they have some big
- 1:38:05Speaker 7: guys who are tough, but I don't feel like they're
- 1:38:07Speaker 7: overwhelmingly tough that they can just I mean, against the
- 1:38:09Speaker 7: bad teams.
- 1:38:10Speaker 6: It's sure works.
- 1:38:10Speaker 7: It seems like that philosophy is great when you're playing
- 1:38:13Speaker 7: a team that you know is sub half of the
- 1:38:15Speaker 7: of the of the of the league. You know, usually
- 1:38:17Speaker 7: they're able to have their way with those teams, maybe
- 1:38:19Speaker 7: not necessarily you know, physically overwhelming them, but I just
- 1:38:23Speaker 7: that's it seems like that's what they're invested in, is
- 1:38:25Speaker 7: toughness and that kind of guy.
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: They just their system defensively needs the type of player
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: that Jawan Bentley is at the at the middle linebacker
- 1:38:36Speaker 3: position because they play a so much odd front where
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: the b gap bubble, like the area over the guard
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: is uncovered, so the guard is free right, so he
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: can he can combo, he can pull, and there's nobody's
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: in the in the gap over him to threaten. So
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: that means that that guard is now always going up
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: to the second level of the defense. So if you
- 1:38:58Speaker 3: can't have if you don't have a two hundred and
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: fifty pounds sledgehammer that can take on the guard, then
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: you're getting bowling pins right or you're just getting run
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: over all the time. So if they don't have that player,
- 1:39:09Speaker 3: and he is one of the best space compressors in
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: the league, like just press the block, hold the gap,
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: and play fundamentally sound in that role, that there is.
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: He's I understand, like I said earlier, that he's not
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: the sideline to sideline guy. He's not going to chase
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: down Josh Allen. He's not gonna, you know, drop twenty
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: yards into coverage and make a play on the football.
- 1:39:31Speaker 3: But for what they really need him to do that
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: allows them to be, you know, multiple with the safeties,
- 1:39:38Speaker 3: that allows them to play an Adrian Phillips at the
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: second level at two hundred and twenty pounds, is because
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: they have a guy like Benley who's essentially like in
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: most cases, like a fifth defensive lineman and really in
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: reality and that's that's an important role in their defense.
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: So I think Juwan Bentley personally. Drive Mayo said it
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: last year that he thinks that he's one of the
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: more underrated linebackers reason in the league, and I really
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: think he is.
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: Kyle and Pembroke, including last season in Jack Jones, there's
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: been a lot of negativity surrounding the team. However, I'm
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: wondering what positives you guys see and what gives you
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: hope about the team. For me, I'm happy with the
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: past couple of draft classes and I can't wait to
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: see how they impact the team now that we have
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: quality coaches.
- 1:40:20Speaker 7: Yeah, Gonzalez, you know, key On White, very curious about
- 1:40:24Speaker 7: keo On White, how how he turns out the young guys.
- 1:40:27Speaker 6: I mean, that's that's what it is. I go back
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: to the draft.
- 1:40:29Speaker 7: How are these young guys progressing? Are they going to
- 1:40:31Speaker 7: take the next step? I just that's the only way
- 1:40:34Speaker 7: I really see out of the doldrums of the AFC
- 1:40:36Speaker 7: East is to you know, develop these draft picks and
- 1:40:39Speaker 7: really have them become elite players that they will then
- 1:40:41Speaker 7: hopefully resign.
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: Yeah, if you're not excited about your draft class before
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: they played, yeah, I agree with everything Mike just said,
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: but I haven't seen.
- 1:40:50Speaker 6: They haven't played a game yet.
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: Listen, I'm excited about the defense. I think there's some
- 1:40:54Speaker 2: pieces there. If they can play cohesively, I think they've
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: got something going. And then I'm excited to just see
- 1:41:01Speaker 2: what Bill O'Brien does with the offense and how it improves.
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: If it improves, you know, Like I'm excited for the season.
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: I'm not, like, you know, they're not going to make
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: the playoffs, So again I would say what happens, I'm sorry,
- 1:41:16Speaker 2: but like you're three weeks ahead of training, Cam, I
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: think yesterday was the three week mark.
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: If you're not excited now, yeah, Like I don't know, like,
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: are you alive? Do you care about football?
- 1:41:27Speaker 2: Like people like some people are like dreading it. You're like, oh,
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: well that's a different thing. That's worked, okay, So.
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: But in terms of the season, I don't know how
- 1:41:34Speaker 4: you can. But if you're an NFL fan, I don't
- 1:41:36Speaker 4: know how you cannot be excited in all thirty two cities.
- 1:41:39Speaker 2: Right, Why dread it?
- 1:41:40Speaker 14: Like?
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: Okay, so what if they're not good? Is it going
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: to really kill you? Is it?
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: You know, catch the ball kid?
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: I just just have a good time with it. It's sports.
- 1:41:50Speaker 3: I totally have the itch. I'm going crazy over here.
- 1:41:53Speaker 7: Oh I'm glad my vacation's over and now and it's
- 1:41:55Speaker 7: going to be just a slow burn and to get
- 1:41:57Speaker 7: into it. But I mean, I think to Freend's point
- 1:42:00Speaker 7: to it's it's it's really just what does what does
- 1:42:02Speaker 7: this offense look like?
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: Now?
- 1:42:03Speaker 6: Like you know, I and you know, one of the.
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: Callers said last year was was really rough.
- 1:42:07Speaker 7: On MAC and you know, and I agree, and I
- 1:42:09Speaker 7: want to see, all right, what's it look like now?
- 1:42:11Speaker 7: He's got an offensive coordinator. It seems like they all
- 1:42:13Speaker 7: know what they're doing. They're all on the same page
- 1:42:15Speaker 7: right now. So now they have to execute, and you
- 1:42:18Speaker 7: know it's you're gonna get some good joint practices against
- 1:42:20Speaker 7: a couple you know, interesting teams, especially Green Bay they
- 1:42:22Speaker 7: got you know, good defense.
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: They're gonna both those teams got good defense. It's real
- 1:42:26Speaker 6: good front.
- 1:42:26Speaker 7: So you know, we're gonna get a good sense in
- 1:42:28Speaker 7: the in the summer of what'sok what's cooking on offense?
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I can't wait to see Bill O'Brien, Like
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: that's to me, that's the one. And I think, you know,
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: just listening to him talk and watching you know, his
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: film and from his past stops and things like that,
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: like you just can see the the the brain right,
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: like you see that this is like a real offensive guru.
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: Like this is a guy that understands offensive.
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: But if like you know, you come out of the
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: gate and after week three like wow, Coast Range, it's clicking. Now, Yeah,
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: I mean that's great, you know, second year guy. No,
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: but like but at least you're like, Okay, they picked
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: this guy in the first round and he's going to
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: be a good player.
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: Well, everybody thought he was good last year.
- 1:43:07Speaker 4: So proves my point about first round offensive lineman. They
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: can just basically exist.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: They're not he gotched three times, but sorry.
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: As long as they exist through the season, they're not
- 1:43:18Speaker 4: a bust.
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: Brian and Petucket, speaking of game managers and journeymen, Ryan
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: Fitzpatrick was the rare journeyman that was definitely not a
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: game manager.
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: That's a good point.
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: Yeah, he was kind of.
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: Yeah, but I want to I want to go back
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: to these kinds of time, so I know that no
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: one cares, but I love these things. Just because you're
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: a journeyman doesn't make you a game manager. Now, they're
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: not mutually exclusive. You can be a game manager and
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: a journeyman. And I would say if Kirk Cousins goes
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: to a third team journeyman, he's right there for both.
- 1:43:49Speaker 16: Right.
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: But yeah, no one would ever call Ryan Fitzpatrick's a
- 1:43:53Speaker 4: game manager. It's a good example, but he's been on
- 1:43:56Speaker 4: more team than anybody. He's definitely a journeyman three these teams.
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: He's Brett Fav's worst marketing.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: Brendan and Clinton question for Evan, do you know.
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: How many games under five hundred. Ryan Fitzpatrick is for
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: a season for his career, That's my point. And you
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: think that's Brett Farv.
- 1:44:15Speaker 6: How many losing seasons and Brett Farv half one.
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: I'm just messing.
- 1:44:21Speaker 6: I like the line, though I might steal it.
- 1:44:23Speaker 4: He's spread off with the worst marketing.
- 1:44:26Speaker 2: I might steal that question for Evan. You stated, by
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: the way, was interrupted Ryan Fitzpatrick at Wimbledon the other day.
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: I think I know, I think I saw Ryan Fitzpatrick.
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: I mean mean Moran.
- 1:44:41Speaker 2: Conn stated the Parker extension makes it less likely to
- 1:44:44Speaker 2: sign Hopkins. If that's true, than who in your eyes
- 1:44:47Speaker 2: has filled agal or spot. I feel the opposite. I
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: think the Marker signing helps the Hopkins sign it does neither.
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: Never elevant.
- 1:44:56Speaker 3: I just said, I don't know where that's coming from,
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: honestly as I can.
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: Yeah, we never broach that topic last week that it
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: had really much of a bearing either way.
- 1:45:05Speaker 2: And last, can Eldrick stop calling with basically the same
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: comments on every call? Bill can coach but he can't GM.
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: If he's so bad at GM, explain why he's the
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: only GM to get the team to ten Super Bowls
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: with six wins in twenty years because coachs couldn't do
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: it with papers. So don't claim off with successes because
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: of Tom Brady. He's the most successful coach in GM
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: in this era of the league, and you think he sucks.
- 1:45:29Speaker 2: Most teams would kill to get to one Super Bowl
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: in ten years. We get it. And you don't like
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: Bill as a GM as a regular caller, why not
- 1:45:37Speaker 2: bring something new to the table.
- 1:45:42Speaker 6: I would just talk to you.
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: If Bill Belichick was as equally adept as a coach
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: as he is as a GM, he would not have
- 1:45:48Speaker 4: gone to ten Super Bowls even with Tom Brady.
- 1:45:54Speaker 7: I'm trying to put that.
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: If he was the same level of coach as he
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: is a GM, he would not have gone to ten
- 1:46:01Speaker 4: Super Bowls.
- 1:46:02Speaker 2: He would have gone to more, saying he would be
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: a bad coach.
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: Oh, I was the other way around.
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: You got it.
- 1:46:10Speaker 6: I got it. I took I.
- 1:46:13Speaker 2: Honestly. You know, we talked about like being ahead being
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: the CEO in the NFL, meaning a head coach with
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: all the power, And to me, that's one of Bill's
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: things that I'm I'm most impressed about is the fact
- 1:46:29Speaker 2: that he is the head coach. He is the GM.
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: He controls everything, and he's been able to keep it
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: together for as long as he has. That's to me,
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: that's his That's a huge accomplishment. Besides the winning. That's
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: not easy to do to to be in control of
- 1:46:47Speaker 2: the whole thing and and it and it doesn't spin
- 1:46:50Speaker 2: out of control like in many other teams, you know,
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: with the with the internal squabbles and the entitlement that
- 1:46:57Speaker 2: comes with winning, and and players wanting more money and
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: and all that which which happens on every team. And
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: he's been in you know it has it happened here here, yes,
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: But he's controlled it. And to me, that's huge that
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: he's been able to.
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: Do that he has built because I take as many
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: shots that build the GM as anybody, including Eldred, But
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: he has built a ridiculously stable program. Like the program
- 1:47:24Speaker 3: like just talking about it.
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: I give Crass credit for that too, but Brady get
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: any of that credit. But you know, like like the callers,
- 1:47:35Speaker 2: like the email has said, you know, the colt said,
- 1:47:38Speaker 2: Peyton Manning And they didn't win six super Bowls.
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: But they won, but they did the same thing. They
- 1:47:43Speaker 4: were consistently a Super Bowl contender every year. Yeah, from
- 1:47:47Speaker 4: Brady's second. I mean Manning second year on, they did
- 1:47:49Speaker 4: the same thing. I the Patriots were better. That's why
- 1:47:52Speaker 4: they didn't win six Super Bowls.
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: You know, maybe if Belichick was with Manning then they
- 1:47:57Speaker 2: would have been I don't know, but I give Belichi
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: Check all the credit in the world for managing the
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: team and constructing. Like Evan said, you know or you know,
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: I give Brady a system that is just it's endured
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: over twenty years.
- 1:48:13Speaker 4: And you know, when you can voucher me on this,
- 1:48:15Speaker 4: I've changed on this. I was with Fred, Yeah, I
- 1:48:19Speaker 4: was with Fred ten years ago.
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: But cam'p both things be true, though, right, yep, because
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: I think that with Brady, Brady made the system excel
- 1:48:28Speaker 3: to the level that it excelled at. And this is
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: my biggest current gripe with Bill is that he's still
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: operating the ship like he has Brady and he doesn't
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: have Brady.
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: But come to find out, he wasn't operating the ship
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: in any particular way because he had Brady. That's the
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: way he operated the ship. Yeah, right, and it happened
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: to be. It happened to work. In my opinion, again,
- 1:48:47Speaker 4: I'm revision is history. I was wrong on this I've
- 1:48:50Speaker 4: changed my mind on this. I think it worked because
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: Brady was just that good.
- 1:48:55Speaker 3: Right, But that's sort of my point is that when
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: you have a quarterback at Brady's level, you can make
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: these little decisions below him, and you can these guys
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: are become sort of interchangeable, right like everybody else sort
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: of just becomes interchangeable, and they're they're in the right order,
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: and like you can make a roster out of the
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: middle class, because Brady's gonna take a really good one
- 1:49:22Speaker 3: through fifty three middle class roster and win twelve thirteen
- 1:49:25Speaker 3: games with it.
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: And that's what he did. When you interchange with the
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: wrong replacement, it didn't matter because he overcame it in
- 1:49:32Speaker 4: my In my opinion, you're seeing him interchange with the
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: wrong players too often. Now, what you guys are talking
- 1:49:39Speaker 4: about about replacing guys in the draft and getting a receiver,
- 1:49:42Speaker 4: that's what didn't matter when you had him. But I
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: don't think he was doing it because I have Brady,
- 1:49:47Speaker 4: he'll make it work. I think he was doing because
- 1:49:50Speaker 4: he thinks that's the way to do it, right.
- 1:49:51Speaker 7: Yeah, I just but I just feel like, isn't comparing
- 1:49:54Speaker 7: a head coach and a quarterback kind of apples to
- 1:49:56Speaker 7: Orange is when you're trying to divvy up credit for
- 1:49:58Speaker 7: things like.
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: That, it's silly to radio, you know, Like that's what
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: I'm hearing, Like.
- 1:50:02Speaker 7: You can still be the greatest head coach of all
- 1:50:04Speaker 7: time and you had a great player, Like it doesn't
- 1:50:07Speaker 7: mean that you know that it was that the credit
- 1:50:09Speaker 7: was equal. I don't know if if the two would
- 1:50:11Speaker 7: have happened without either one of them, but you know,
- 1:50:13Speaker 7: saying that that Brady was largely responsible for a lot
- 1:50:16Speaker 7: of it, you know, the great majority of it. You know,
- 1:50:19Speaker 7: it doesn't necessarily have to be a slight at Bill,
- 1:50:22Speaker 7: Like it's still he's still an excellent right coach and he's.
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: Established and like I said, it's just one of my
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: sorry to take us out of, but I totally agree.
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: And this is why it's like when Evan says, you know,
- 1:50:31Speaker 4: it's can it be a little bit of Absolutely The
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: true answer is they needed each other, right, I mean,
- 1:50:37Speaker 4: that's the great But I would have just told you
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: that three or four years before the end of Brady.
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: I was strongly in Fred will Vouchman this. I was
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: strongly in that it's more about Bill, it's the discipline,
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: it's the consistency, it's everything that he does to put
- 1:50:52Speaker 4: it all together. That's why they're as good as they are.
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: And you know, as Brady kept winning, I think less
- 1:51:01Speaker 4: like that nineteen team was not very good, and here
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: they are, you know, they winning twelve games again and whatever.
- 1:51:09Speaker 4: And then to see what Brady eight no team ever
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: to see what Brady did when he left, Like I've
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: kind of like had my eyes opened a little bit.
- 1:51:17Speaker 4: I think I was short changing Brady.
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: A little bit.
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: Not necessarily. I don't have anything to Bill. I think
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: I short changed I think, you know, and I've come around.
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: I think for a lot of people, their appreciation of
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: Brady went over the top after he left, and they
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: you appreciate sometimes you appreciate something when you don't have
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: it more. And I think that's that's what happened with Brady.
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: Happened to Douce, Yeah, I mean he showed like he
- 1:51:43Speaker 2: goes to this new team and immediately wins the Super Bowl.
- 1:51:46Speaker 3: I just think, like the whether like divving up credit,
- 1:51:49Speaker 3: I don't really care about. My whole thing is just
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: like where they're going now, and he's still operating like
- 1:51:54Speaker 3: he has Brady like he's still making the same roster
- 1:51:57Speaker 3: decisions that he would always make. I can criticize him
- 1:52:00Speaker 3: for a lot, but he's one thing is he's consistent, right,
- 1:52:03Speaker 3: Like he just does the same thing all every single time.
- 1:52:05Speaker 3: We talked about those sixteen free agents earlier with high
- 1:52:09Speaker 3: Tower and Chandler, Kyle Duggar, josh Uja, Mikeel Like, it's
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: the same conversation that you guys had five years ago,
- 1:52:16Speaker 3: six years ago, seven years ago with those guys, and
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: at some point you have to recognize that you can't
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: build the roster the same way. And he hasn't changed
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: that philosophy. He's still sticking to the same plan when
- 1:52:29Speaker 3: he doesn't have the guy at the top that was
- 1:52:33Speaker 3: making it all, pulling it all together, and that.
- 1:52:37Speaker 4: He thinks he's the guy who pulls it all together.
- 1:52:40Speaker 3: Maybe that's it, Like maybe that realization is it. But
- 1:52:44Speaker 3: I just think that they something has to give in
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: that respect. Either he has to come to terms with
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: the fact that he can't win at a high level
- 1:52:51Speaker 3: doing it the same way because he's never going to
- 1:52:53Speaker 3: get another Tom Brady, or they need to move on
- 1:52:57Speaker 3: from mac Jones and go looking for the next Tom Brady.
- 1:53:00Speaker 3: There's no that. That's that's the sticking point.
- 1:53:04Speaker 4: Be interesting to see how that.
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: Let's go back to the a sticking outline. Eric's in Virginia.
- 1:53:09Speaker 2: Hey Eric, Eric, Hey, how a y'all doing this afternoon? Okay?
- 1:53:15Speaker 22: Here, Hey first time color. I just want to say
- 1:53:18Speaker 22: big fans of the show, thanks you. Any quick question though,
- 1:53:20Speaker 22: you know, all over like Reddit and Twitter and stuff,
- 1:53:23Speaker 22: you know, you got Robert Kraft out here saying, hey,
- 1:53:26Speaker 22: money's ever been an issue? And kind of what Evan's
- 1:53:28Speaker 22: been saying, Like, you know, Bill is operating on this like, hey,
- 1:53:32Speaker 22: we're like a poor team. I'm gonna try to save
- 1:53:35Speaker 22: the money as best I can. It's just kind of
- 1:53:36Speaker 22: like I'm confused on what these two are doing with
- 1:53:39Speaker 22: each other. It's like, hey, I get it, like Robert,
- 1:53:42Speaker 22: you know, he's kind of reaching the end of the
- 1:53:43Speaker 22: line here towards the end a couple of years God did,
- 1:53:45Speaker 22: and he's like ready to spend money. So what's like,
- 1:53:48Speaker 22: I guess my question is like I wonder what's it
- 1:53:51Speaker 22: gonna take? Is it gonna I mean, I don't want
- 1:53:53Speaker 22: to be one of those guys and say, hey, push
- 1:53:54Speaker 22: Bill out. It's been a great twenty years. It's been
- 1:53:57Speaker 22: a blast, and I don't want him to go. I
- 1:53:59Speaker 22: want him to build go on its own terms. But
- 1:54:01Speaker 22: kind of what Evan's been saying is like, why are
- 1:54:03Speaker 22: we operating like this? You've got the money, Let's take
- 1:54:06Speaker 22: a risk. Yeah, I think this off the line, but
- 1:54:10Speaker 22: I just want to say thank y'all. And a real
- 1:54:12Speaker 22: quick thing too, is I have a three year old
- 1:54:14Speaker 22: who rides in my car and I always put the
- 1:54:17Speaker 22: podcast on. I really do appreciate y'all, not like you know,
- 1:54:19Speaker 22: customer a whole while as a parent, I can keep that.
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: Show on my way try my.
- 1:54:26Speaker 4: Two co hosts. Evidently Eric hates me.
- 1:54:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I see, you know I And that comment from
- 1:54:37Speaker 2: Robert Kraft puts Bill under pressure, you know from the fans, like, well,
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: the owner doesn't care about spending, and so you know,
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: why doesn't Bill just overpay and get all the best players.
- 1:54:46Speaker 2: You know, it's easy to say. It's easy to say,
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: and I do think we've talked about it before. Bill
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: does worry about the locker room and and the pecking
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: order of of what people make. And I know that.
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: You know, when Brady was here, you know, maybe for
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: an instant you could be making a little bit more,
- 1:55:08Speaker 2: but no one could make more than Tom Brady. You know,
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: that's just not once he got his second, his third country, Yeah,
- 1:55:13Speaker 2: that that just wasn't gonna fly. And that's and that's
- 1:55:17Speaker 2: how Bill kind of you know, level the play, you know,
- 1:55:21Speaker 2: set the standard. Again, he gets the most and everybody
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: that guy right who was willing to take less.
- 1:55:27Speaker 7: Who everyone in the locker room easily acknowledges it, right,
- 1:55:30Speaker 7: And he's.
- 1:55:31Speaker 4: Not making, you know, an outrageous amount. So someone could
- 1:55:35Speaker 4: be second, third, fourth to him but still making a
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: lot of money, right, he was making an average amount
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: for what he could have been making.
- 1:55:41Speaker 2: Yeah. So now it's it's you know, like so how
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: does Bill set that standard? Now, Like who's the guy
- 1:55:48Speaker 2: that he's going to be the top of our mack.
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: Jud you know, set it on that thirty thirteen. So
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: that's another thing that a lot of concerns.
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: So Bill sets this artificial she'll you know, governor on himself.
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: Like so what if how if somebody comes in and
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: makes a little bit more than judea on JUDEO is
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: gonna get over it?
- 1:56:10Speaker 4: You know, and if he's changing economics in the league,
- 1:56:12Speaker 4: right when you have to recognize that the highest paid
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: player one year, the next year it's not even close.
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: Right, So I mean that stuff, you know, you have
- 1:56:22Speaker 2: to deal with that, you know, and I that's one
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: of the problems right now. Now. I on the other hand,
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: like even though Robert Kraft says that, I don't think
- 1:56:31Speaker 2: Bill can just go and say, oh, we're gonna, you know,
- 1:56:34Speaker 2: give Hopkins twenty two million dollars just to get it done. Now,
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: that's where I think Robert would say, whoah, you know,
- 1:56:40Speaker 2: everything we have from our you know, uh, scouts and
- 1:56:45Speaker 2: everything says he's not worth even close to that money.
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: So you're not gonna waste money like that. So it's
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: it's just, you know what, there's a leveling there. But
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: it's it's tough Bill. Bill always is worried about that
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: locker room, you know, uh pecking what.
- 1:57:01Speaker 7: I would I'd buy into it more too. If there
- 1:57:03Speaker 7: had been players that they could have retained, had they
- 1:57:07Speaker 7: paid them, that would have been impact star players that they.
- 1:57:09Speaker 6: Just let walk.
- 1:57:10Speaker 3: But I don't really see those players, you know, Like
- 1:57:13Speaker 3: it's they.
- 1:57:14Speaker 7: Just haven't had a lot of talent, they haven't really
- 1:57:16Speaker 7: had internal people to spend that money on.
- 1:57:19Speaker 6: And to me.
- 1:57:19Speaker 7: That's the that's the original sin, not just hey, oh
- 1:57:22Speaker 7: that gets back to your taking team. Like it's like
- 1:57:25Speaker 7: if you had oh my god, I mean and you know,
- 1:57:27Speaker 7: probably people would say, well, you could have paid Brady
- 1:57:29Speaker 7: and you know that's you know, sure, but who who
- 1:57:32Speaker 7: did you draft that you let go that you I mean,
- 1:57:34Speaker 7: you guys brought.
- 1:57:34Speaker 6: Up Collins and high Time.
- 1:57:35Speaker 7: I mean, I remember one hundred percent being on that debate,
- 1:57:38Speaker 7: and I was, you know, for right or wrong.
- 1:57:39Speaker 6: I was on Jamie Collins.
- 1:57:40Speaker 7: That was like I said, this is an athletic next
- 1:57:42Speaker 7: generation linebacker. I love Dante high Tower. But that was
- 1:57:45Speaker 7: my feeling at the time. And you know, meanwhile, they
- 1:57:48Speaker 7: let him walk.
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: He came back twice, but he really wasn't that guy.
- 1:57:51Speaker 3: He really wasn't that guy.
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: He was kind.
- 1:57:55Speaker 7: Him right and and in the end, it probably you know,
- 1:57:58Speaker 7: worked out the way it should have. I mean, I
- 1:58:00Speaker 7: I guess I would have maybe said I could have
- 1:58:02Speaker 7: it worked out terribly for Trey Flowers in Detroit after
- 1:58:05Speaker 7: we left here.
- 1:58:06Speaker 6: But I felt like he was a player that.
- 1:58:07Speaker 7: Maybe you could have retained, that maybe could have still
- 1:58:09Speaker 7: been here and still been you know, an impact player
- 1:58:12Speaker 7: on the edge.
- 1:58:12Speaker 6: But outside of.
- 1:58:12Speaker 3: Him, Like, who did you have that you let go
- 1:58:15Speaker 3: that you didn't.
- 1:58:15Speaker 6: Want to pay.
- 1:58:15Speaker 4: They definitely had that fifteen sixteen seventh, Like there was
- 1:58:21Speaker 4: a I don't know exactly when it started, but there was.
- 1:58:24Speaker 6: A down period in the draft.
- 1:58:25Speaker 4: Oh yeah, they weren't getting any players right.
- 1:58:27Speaker 2: Right right, and that set them back. It set them
- 1:58:30Speaker 2: bash already a first show back. It went by in
- 1:58:33Speaker 2: a flash, you know. That set them back. So I
- 1:58:36Speaker 2: don't know, I don't I don't know what the answer is,
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: but find out in three to your point, they've got it.
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: They've got a draft better, you know, so that they
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: get put themselves in a position where they have to
- 1:58:46Speaker 2: make a decision of extending guys because they're that good,
- 1:58:49Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:58:50Speaker 7: And then and then if they don't extend them, then
- 1:58:52Speaker 7: it's like, yeah.
- 1:58:52Speaker 3: They're not doing Like well, that's how I feel about
- 1:58:55Speaker 3: the twenty twenty guys, Like Douggar is an extendable player,
- 1:58:58Speaker 3: Like there's no excuse to not so.
- 1:59:01Speaker 2: We'll see what they do with him, you know. Yeah,
- 1:59:04Speaker 2: but prior to those drafts, they didn't really have guys
- 1:59:07Speaker 2: that were worthy of it.
- 1:59:09Speaker 3: Like if we had just retained Sony Michelle, it would
- 1:59:11Speaker 3: all have been fine.
- 1:59:11Speaker 2: I got news, all right. That's going to be it
