- 0:05Be on it because us silence. Wow. Wow, Yeah, I'm trying
- 0:51to. I'm still trying to think of clever ways to open up for book
- 0:54watchers. But Hi, Welcome to book Watchers, the podcast where everything is
- 0:58made up. Wait no, I mean you're not wrong, it's fiction.
- 1:03Welcome to the podcast where we all hallucinate together while reading tattoos off of the
- 1:10shavings of dead trees. Mine, I'm your host, Jacob, and I'm
- 1:14joined with the beautiful, stunning bald ginger. Who wait, who are you
- 1:18again? Hi? I'm Devin. What's good? What's cracking? What's popping?
- 1:26That wasn't intro tattoos on the skins of trees? I feel the shavings
- 1:33of dead trees? Uh huh? Well okay, okay. I love the
- 1:36energy, love the energy with that, but I could tell that you were
- 1:38kind of like, what the fuck am I gonna say? You came without
- 1:42spot? I love the energy, love it, love it. So points
- 1:46for effort. But it's for effort a little weird, but that's fine because
- 1:51we thrive on the weirdness here. Oh absolutely, but so oh go ahead,
- 1:57So before we start again, links and stuff will be in a description
- 2:02below. If you want to follow us on, well, we have a
- 2:06Twitter for book Watchers. Lord only knows by the time this episode comes out
- 2:09in April, since I'm not posting episodes of book Watchers again until March for
- 2:15reasons to make sure we have enough stocked up. Maybe by then we'll have
- 2:20a Twitter. If we deal, we'll be in the description below. Otherwise,
- 2:23links of the podcast and the YouTube channel which this podcast will be posting
- 2:27on as well. We'll be all on in the description below. So today,
- 2:32what are we talking about today? Today we are gonna be talking about
- 2:38the live action adaptations of the last two books that we were just reviewing.
- 2:42We're gonna be reviewing Jurassic Park, the movie and its sequel, The Lost
- 2:46World of Jurassic Park with honorable mentions, with the honorable mention of Durassic Park
- 2:53three, and the new Jurassic World series. WHOA. So for these movies,
- 3:02I just want to say, the two of us here, we literally
- 3:07grew up watching these movies. I mean, yeah, yeah, I like
- 3:12when I was a kid. I don't even remember the first two Jurassic Park
- 3:15movies coming out in theaters, but I know they did. That's probably because
- 3:19they came out in like the mid nineties, and you know what, let's
- 3:23look, when did they come out and moved? When? When did did
- 3:25they ninety six? Are you seven? Ninety six? Ninety seven? Wow,
- 3:31they came out in like really quick come oh no, sorry, durst
- 3:36apart. The first one was ninety three, my bad. So the first
- 3:38one was ninety three nice, and then the second one was ninety seven work.
- 3:46So there was a good four years before the second one came out,
- 3:49and then Jurassic Park three came out in two thousand and one. I was
- 3:53a child, I know, I remember when that one came out, and
- 3:59it was looking back on it, that one was definitely the worst of the
- 4:02three. Which one the third one? Oh yeah, because first of all,
- 4:08there was no book to go off of. No, that's when they
- 4:11went off the right off off the track. Yeah, that's when they decided
- 4:15to try to make Jurassic Park its own thing. If anything, Jurassic Park
- 4:18three was more of like a Jurassic Park two point one. Yeah, mainly
- 4:26because so the Jurassic Park takes place on two separate islands. In the first
- 4:33book, it takes place on Ela Newblar, which is several like like several
- 4:38miles off the coast of Costa Rica and New Blar is part of an island
- 4:44chain that can be found there and the other part the other island is Easlasorna.
- 4:50So Easla Newblar was where the park actually was, while eas La Newblar
- 4:56was the park was where the dinosaurs were manufactured, so it's where the lab
- 5:00was, It's where the dinosaurs were bred and grown and all that all that
- 5:08fun stuff. So really, out of these two movies, Jurassic Park number
- 5:16Jurassic Park itself was more faithful to the to the novel. There was very
- 5:21few differences between the book and the movie, like except for the fact that
- 5:27it really covers how Jurassic Park itself had a much larger operation now in the
- 5:33In the book, it just kind of underscored how like their operations were.
- 5:39It seemed like there was only like a handful of fact of staff that was
- 5:45there to run to monitor run the operations of the whole island and also to
- 5:51keep an eye on the dinosaurs that were there. Really, they was pretty
- 5:58much the movies didn't really cover how there was a lot more to do with
- 6:05like the basically how the park was failing like it was not it. Although
- 6:15it's a it's a beautiful idea having like this park slash Safari adventure type theme
- 6:21park with actual living dinosaurs. It's a beautiful dream. But at the same
- 6:27time, John Hammond had no idea what the fuck he was doing because they're
- 6:32dealing with an entire species of animals, of animal that went extinct millions of
- 6:39years ago, so we have no idea how these animals are going to react
- 6:44to this new environment. So that's pretty much what we see in the movie
- 6:47too. So like we're introduced to all of the different characters like doctor Alan
- 6:54Grants, Ellie I've forgot her name ship, let me come up. Sorry,
- 7:01I should have had my notes ready, oh, Ellie Sadler, and
- 7:08then of course Ian Malcolm, yeah so. And Alan Grant of course was
- 7:13played by was played by Sam Neil. Ellie Sadler was played by Laura Dern.
- 7:19Laura Dern, and we all know Jeff Goldblum played Ian Malcolm. Think
- 7:26about Ian Malcolm's character in the movie is compared to the book, is that
- 7:30Ian Malcolm was less well, he was more of a bad boy type science
- 7:36like more of a bad boy type in the movie more than he was in
- 7:40the book. I mean, how much of a bad boy can he be?
- 7:46E're a mathematician that studies chaos, that studies chaos theory. Fair fair
- 7:54like. I mean not saying there aren't any bad boys, like bad boys
- 7:58scientists or mathematicians there. But I want to see I want to I want
- 8:03to see it before I'll believe it anyway. So these guys are invited to
- 8:11Easel Nubar by the eccentric John Hammond to review the park because he wants John
- 8:16Hammond wants to show his investors overseas that the park is safe and ready to
- 8:22be open to the public. Right. But he just needs Satler, Grant,
- 8:30and Malcolm to come in toward the park just to shoot, just to
- 8:33see everything he's built and to confirm that it's okay. But the thing is
- 8:39that pretty much every single one of them agrees that this is a very dangerous
- 8:45thing. It's amazing we have the we're introduced. We have that iconic scene
- 8:52where doctor Grant and Satler, they both when they're taking that first toward the
- 8:58islands and their dry through that forested area and they come across the herd of
- 9:03Bracketosaurus and all the other dinosaurs and you just like just that scene right there
- 9:09was like probably like one of the most visually spectacular scenes in the early nineties
- 9:13because that scene was pretty like heavily cged, like all the dinosaurs. Like
- 9:18even now, like I watched that movie recently and just seeing that that scene,
- 9:24yeah, you can tell, like it's all it's the early form of
- 9:28CGIO graphics, but it's still it's still good. It aged very well.
- 9:35Yeah, they agreed they did a very good job with that. And of
- 9:41course it follows the first movie follows the same narrative. John Hammond takes them
- 9:48all through a tour of the facilities, the parks. They're given like full
- 9:52detailed explanation. How like Hammond was able to discover that it was possible to
- 10:01clone these animals from DNA harvested from amber. So like, for those of
- 10:09you who don't know, amber is a form of fossilized tree sap and in
- 10:18Hammond's case, like some of these amber they theorized that millions of years ago
- 10:24and like ancient blood sucking insects like mosquitoes got trapped in the amber after getting
- 10:37got after you're consuming some dinosaur blood and that blood got preserved. Sorry,
- 10:48my cousin just pulled up and like, my god, his car is like
- 10:50loud, Like all I heard was this like scratching, scraping sound. I'm
- 10:56like, what the fuck is that? And I looked out the window and
- 10:58I could see his car in the driveway, and I'm like, my god,
- 11:01James. Anyway, so they're introduced, so like they're shown how like
- 11:09using by using thoroughly like innovative genetics, genetic sequencers and extracting technology and all
- 11:18that they extracted the DNA from the amber. They were able to repair the
- 11:24DNA by splicing compatible DNA from other existing animals with the dinosaur DNA, and
- 11:33thus they were able to resurrect the dinosaurs. And the movie really captured like
- 11:39really like makes this whole story seems like the whole Jurassic Park operations seemed like
- 11:46it's on a bigger scale because the books make it seem it's a lot smaller.
- 11:50Like I said earlier, it was like a lot smaller. But what
- 11:52the movie leaves out or like several like key details, like for like the
- 11:56fact that some dinosaurs are from the islands, mainly the compies, the little
- 12:03Green Chicken like dinosaurs they're based. They're small, like scavenger type dinosaurs.
- 12:11They are also known as nest eaters, so they often invade the nests of
- 12:16other dinosaurs, eat the eggs, kill the babies, things like that.
- 12:22And there was a scene in the book where some of the compies got to
- 12:26the mainland of Costa Rica and they like went they had broke gotten into a
- 12:31house in a nursery and ate a baby. But we don't talk about that
- 12:35here. Oh so I'm not going to talk about it more than just well
- 12:41that wasn't in the movie though, yeah, it wasn't. It actually left
- 12:46out the fact that, like the copies, the more horror side of things
- 12:50wasn't really there anymore. Yeah, it was definitely, I don't know,
- 12:54it was definitely more of a child friendly movie, even though we did see
- 13:00we did see a t rex eat a few people. And then of course
- 13:03the veloci raptors. I think like the one thing that made this movie a
- 13:07lot scarier were the velociraptors. Like they did a good job, like they
- 13:11made it. They definitely captured how pack oriented the velociraptors are, and you
- 13:20know, throughout the whole movie that was like the more menacing threat. Like
- 13:24the scene where the velociraptors chase those two kids into that kitchen and they're trying
- 13:28to hide from them. That was that was terrifying to me as a kid.
- 13:31I was like, oh my god, they're gonna get Oh my god.
- 13:35Fair So yeah, even watching watching these movies now is like, man,
- 13:39there's so much nostalgia and uh now, like I know my niece and
- 13:50nephew both are well my nephew especially, he loves these movies and he loves
- 13:54the New Jurassic World movies, so like it. It's definitely like it's definitely
- 14:03one of those classic movies. I'm just trying to like remember, like what
- 14:09are some differences that like some key differences, like so one thing so before
- 14:18okay, you know what, I do remember the differences. But there's like
- 14:22I said, there were some scenes that were either left out or changed in
- 14:26the movie. There were very few because it was very because the movie was
- 14:28very faithful. I will say that John Hammond's character was a lot more pleasant
- 14:35than he was in the book. Well, his character was more or less
- 14:39the same in the book. He was actually a lot more narcissistic and self
- 14:45centered in the book like his grandkids in the movie, Yeah, he took
- 14:50he brought them along. The reason why that his grandkids were in the part
- 14:54were at the island at the time was pretty much the same. There was
- 14:58something going on with her with their parents, so they went to go stay
- 15:01with their grandfather for a bit and he brought them to the islands. But
- 15:05like while in the movie, the movie he was more than happy to have
- 15:09his grandkids there, but in the book it was there was definitely like heavy
- 15:13implication that he wasn't entirely thrilled that his grandkids were there with him. Yeah,
- 15:18because it was more of a dick. Yeah, he was in general,
- 15:22he was more of a dick in general. He didn't exactly care that
- 15:30there were issues with the park, like beyond just the fact that like like
- 15:37behind the scenes like operational issues and like trying to keep the animals under control
- 15:41and keep them team and everything like that. Every time there was an issue,
- 15:48he would brush it off and say, well, we can fix it,
- 15:50right, or like no, just get it done, or like he
- 15:54was definitely doing everything. He was definitely ignoring the issues at hand and was
- 15:58more focused and he was just more focused on the results. Like he wanted
- 16:03his park working, and he wanted working as soon as possible. You know,
- 16:07consequences be damned. And in the book, in the end he ended
- 16:11up getting he ended up getting eaten by the Protocompies. Yeah, yep.
- 16:19So what happened was is that like he and the others were trying to escape
- 16:25from the main complex because of the lost raptors were really like going after them,
- 16:30and then he ends up tripping and falling down a hill and Hammond,
- 16:37just like in the movie, in the book, he walked with a cane
- 16:41and he didn't exactly have the best mobility, and when he fell, he
- 16:47injured his hip and his hip and he wasn't able to really get up again
- 16:51like climb up the hill. And that's when the compies came and they attacked
- 16:55and ate him. So that's it for John Hammond. But in the movie
- 17:00they changed his character all around to be more just something like, oh,
- 17:03he's an old man with a child like, childish dream, right, Yeah,
- 17:07he's just an old man with a childlike dream really just wants to bring
- 17:11joy to the world and then towards and then in the end, even though
- 17:15like when everything fell apart, he actually felt remorse about everything that happened,
- 17:19like like he was sad that his dream wasn't going to go through the way
- 17:26he wanted it, but he took he did take responsibility for what happened at
- 17:33the island, and like leading into the second book, in the second movie
- 17:40in the book, So the second movie in the Lost World, I can
- 17:47definitely say that the story, like everything that happens in the Lost World the
- 17:52movie is very different from how it happened in the Lost World the book.
- 17:59So so for starters in the Lost World the book, they go to Easili
- 18:07Sorna, Malcolm doctor Thorne, and a few other and a small team.
- 18:12They go there because they're trying to rescue this dumb ass scientist who was like
- 18:18so hell bent on discovering a lost world, right world, like an environment,
- 18:25a biosphere filled with extinct animals and fauna things like that, right,
- 18:29and he believed that he found it and Eli Sorna, but really he just
- 18:33he just figured out that it was actually just the manufacturing site for the dinosaurs
- 18:41that Engine John Hemman's company created. Now in the book, Engine had completely
- 18:48gone bankrupt, no longer existed, a lot of their assets were sold off
- 18:52and If anything, the site be as Elisa was was called by the company,
- 19:00was forgotten about and the only reason why it was rediscovered was because some
- 19:04of their some of their debt, their data had been recovered and that's when
- 19:11they it was discovered that there was a site B. But in the movie
- 19:17it was completely different because while the book like, there was a rival company
- 19:22called I think is Biocynth or something. So Engine's rival company has been trying
- 19:33to get a hold of Engine's technology, particularly the genetics technology and the research
- 19:41concerning the the engineering of these dinosaurs right and recreating the dinosaurs, because they
- 19:49wanted to make their own dinosaurs, so they had several of their several of
- 19:55their people were committing acts of or at espionage in order to get ahold of
- 20:03this technology and their research. Like in the first book and movie, that's
- 20:07what happened. One of Engine's own software developers for the island security systems,
- 20:14for one of the island security systems, he ended up shutting down the whole
- 20:18island, which is why like that, dinosaurs got out, went on rent,
- 20:22the t rexes went on the rampage to the Veloci, raptors attacked people.
- 20:26It's because this one dumb ass shut down the security systems, thinking that,
- 20:32Okay, I'm gonna shut it down for a few minutes so I can
- 20:33grab what I need and get the hell off the island, and then the
- 20:37security system will unlock itself afterwards. But security system glitched out, so it
- 20:42remains permanently locked out. Nobody could get it back in and get the whole
- 20:47island back up and running, get the dinosaurs contained again, and the the
- 20:56software developer ends up getting eaten by the dilophosaurs. Yeah, that's right what
- 21:03he did. And so and that same company in the Lost World in the
- 21:11book sent a small team to Cite b to try to grab a few of
- 21:17the eggs that the dinosaurs had been laying so that way they can start breeding
- 21:22their own dinosaurs because they don't have the research. But they're still living dinosaurs
- 21:26there. But that didn't work out. The Lost World the book was actually
- 21:34to me, I thought it was pretty lame because it was just so underdone.
- 21:41And but the movie it was completely different because so since John Hammond,
- 21:48he survived, since he survived in the movies. In the beginning of the
- 21:53Lost World, it pretty much starts. It pretty much starts with Ian Malcolm
- 22:00heading to Hammond's estate in order to talk with him and himself, and he's
- 22:04greeted by some executives from Engen executives that Malcolm really despises because Malcolm tried to
- 22:18tell the public about what happened at Drassic Park. But but the Engen executives
- 22:26they basically buried him under like a mountain of litigation, of legal jargon and
- 22:33whatnot, just to kill just to cover up the event of the of what
- 22:37happened at the island. And while we didn't actually see it, but it
- 22:42was implied that the that Easilnublar had been completely destroyed by the Costa Rican government.
- 22:52We now, while we do see that happen in the in the first
- 22:56book, doesn't we don't exactly see that happen in the first movie. So
- 23:00there's like wiggle room there for that may lead to the fact that, oh,
- 23:06the island is probably still there. Yeah, it's not, and it
- 23:12is. So once Malcolm finishes his little pissing contest with the executives, he
- 23:18goes to talk to Hammond and Hammond tells him about Site b SO, which
- 23:23is eas Lynublar where they manufactured and bred the dinosaurs, and Hammond tells him
- 23:30that. He tells him that he had basically commissioned a team to head to
- 23:37the island to study the animals in their natural environment before Engine which had been
- 23:42completely taken, which had been completely removed from John Hammond's control. He wants
- 23:49he wants to basically give these scientists, this small group of scientists to study
- 23:55the dinosaurs in a natural environment before Engine either liquidates them or or uses them
- 24:00for other purposes. Because Engine still wants to create a Jurassic Park. They
- 24:07still want Jurassic Park, but where Hammond wanted something more like, oh,
- 24:14just something more natural, in a more natural setting, and more like child
- 24:19friendly, and also something that would allow scientists from all over the world to
- 24:25study these animals in a natural environment. These Engine, the company and the
- 24:30executives that now run it, they want something that's more profitable. So Hammond
- 24:37sends convinces Malcolm to go to the island with a small group of other of
- 24:45other scientists and videographers to study the animals in there in this new environment.
- 24:51Because when Sightbeat was it was shut down. The dinosaurs were allowed to roam
- 24:56free. And while Hammond thought that the animals would die off because they're no
- 25:02longer getting their proper nutrients and vitamins that the Candlers would have to give them
- 25:08to order for them to survive. Because Engine deliberately bred the dinosaurs to be
- 25:15dependent off of a certain mineral or a certain protein. I believe it's called
- 25:21lysine. It's something it's like a vitamin or like a certain nutrient that the
- 25:27dinosaurs need to be constantly getting in their food otherwise that they don't get it
- 25:33there, they'll their digestive tracks will break down and they will die. So
- 25:38they couldn't they basically they wanted to ensure that the animals couldn't get couldn't survive
- 25:45on their own without Engine's direct intervention. But he realized that somehow these dinosaurs
- 25:53on Easelnublar had somehow managed to adapt and they are eating. They managed to
- 26:00find another source of lycene rich food on the island, so they're thriving,
- 26:06and Hammon wants to take advantage of this before Engen comes in and fucks it
- 26:10all up again. So Michael, I'm sorry, Malcolm, and this team
- 26:15this was actually like probably what made this movie cool was like there was a
- 26:18whole team of really smart and really sorry, some shit going on the house.
- 26:29But you know, this whole team of just really smart and I'm trying
- 26:36to look for the word motivated individuals. They they head to the island,
- 26:42they start they going there, they start their mission of for court of studying
- 26:48the animals. Malcolm really only goes because his ex girlfriend Sarah Harding had already
- 26:55been sent to the island ahead of the expedition team, and he does him
- 27:00not wanting anything to do with Hammond or Jurassic Park in general. Aren't the
- 27:04dinosaurs ever? Again, he agrees to go to the island just so he
- 27:08can get Sarah out of there, his girlfriend out of there. Yeah,
- 27:17and another thing about oh, and another thing about Malcolm. Another change that
- 27:22they made about the movie from the book was that Malcolm has a daughter.
- 27:26In the book, these two kids stow away on their expedition to the island
- 27:33to rescue that scientist. But in the movie they see in the book that
- 27:41just didn't really make much sense to me, And I think the producers of
- 27:45the Lost World movie agreed, so they change it to where like, instead
- 27:51of it being these two random kids that stow away on the on the expedition,
- 27:56it's just Malcolm's daughter because she wanted to go. She misses her step
- 28:03mom and everything, so she decided so she stows away on the expeditionary team.
- 28:08They and they only find out they don't find out on until after they
- 28:11reached the island, and by that point Malcolm isn't has no luck convincing his
- 28:18girlfriend to come back with them. And then but and this is where like
- 28:26this is where they start having problems because the team that was going to be
- 28:30sent the team that was going to be sent from engine to start collecting the
- 28:36animals and start rounding up the animals for their more profitable Jurassic park. They
- 28:41arrived, it's a much bigger team and they start going after every dinosaur they
- 28:47see. They captured, dozens of animals were introduced to like these big this
- 28:52big, well funded force of just poachers and animal handlers, and it causes
- 29:00more problems than it solved because the team the injen hired this renowned animal wrangler.
- 29:11He's really just a poet. He's just really like a poacher, there's
- 29:15no better word for it. This guy agreed to come to the island because
- 29:19he wanted to have a chance to hunt some of the dinosaurs, including a
- 29:23t rex, so like he so his conditions were like, I just want
- 29:29to be able to hunt t rex bring it down, and he wants to
- 29:33eat one for whatever reason. I mean, I guess, yeah, to
- 29:37try dino meat. Yeah, I guess. I mean, honestly, who
- 29:41wouldn't. But still, oh wait, I don't know, I don't know
- 29:48if I would want to eat dino meat. Would that even be good?
- 29:53Probably not, probably be like super rubbery and gamey. But but beyond that,
- 30:04a lot of the dinosaurs were getting captured, and at one point they
- 30:11discover the t rex the Tyrannosaurus's nests and including a young a young rex infant,
- 30:19and the poacher is like, okay, well we need to lower the
- 30:22bowl here like them like mama and papa here. So what they end up
- 30:27doing is that they capture the the the baby, and they they chain it
- 30:36in a clearing, and they also like I think I'm not sure they don't
- 30:41show this part, but I'm pretty sure that they they deliberately broke the infant's
- 30:45leg so that way, like so that way they when it's crying out for
- 30:52its parents to come, like, you know, help it and save it.
- 30:55It will be more convincing. Yeah, So while the poacher and while
- 31:03the poachers are waiting for the t Rex to show up, Malcolm and his
- 31:07team they infiltrate the camp because because, as it turns out, one of
- 31:14the one of the videographer that Hammond hire to document the expedition, turns out
- 31:22he was actually one of those what do they call them? They're not it's
- 31:27not eco terrorists, but it's like there's another word for him. What do
- 31:33you mean, Like like he's like one of those like environ it's an environmentalists
- 31:41that will like commit acts of espionage to prevent like certain acts of ecological like
- 31:52destruction. M So, like he would say, he's like they would sabotage
- 31:57these these guys would like saboage like construction equipment and like things that would be
- 32:05used to like for deforestation and you know, spread a pollution things like that.
- 32:12An eco warrior I think that's what they're called. Eco warrior sounds about
- 32:15right. Yeah, Well, anyway, turns the videographer turned out to be
- 32:21an eco warrior eco terrorists but hm, but so, yeah, the reason
- 32:30why Hammond actually hired the guy was because if engine actually shows up and starts
- 32:36to like interfere with the animal with the animals that guy was basically he was
- 32:43supposed to, h he's gonna like he's supposed to like stop them, yeah,
- 32:51and not really stop them, but delay them, make it make their
- 32:54efforts a lot harder. So, while the poachers are waiting for the t
- 32:59rex is to show up to capture the to come get their baby, the
- 33:07Malcolm, the eco terrorists and their team, they sneak into the poacher's camps.
- 33:13They start they start opening the padlocks for that the captured dinosaurs were in
- 33:21and like for one particular cage that they unlocked was that of a tri Sarahtops
- 33:28bowl. So the Try Sarahtops and the other dinosaurs got out, started rampaging
- 33:34through the poacher camp and cause a lot of mayhem. And when the poachers
- 33:39were distracted, Malcolm and his team also managed to go in and rescue the
- 33:45baby t Rex and they bring it back to their camp. Which is a
- 33:49mistake, right, Like, that's a mistake right then and there, I
- 33:53mean, yeah, it is. It's a very big mistake. It was
- 33:59one on one. Yep, it was a very big mistake because even though
- 34:02they rescue the t rex and they fix up its leg. The mom and
- 34:07Papa show up and they completely like fuck up their camp decimated like so,
- 34:16like part of their expedition. Some of the equipment they brought were these trailers.
- 34:22There's really cool research trailers, right, just like basically like a like,
- 34:27oh god, what do you call them? It's like a two two
- 34:29sectional RV. Yeah, and they they they fuck it up and they push
- 34:36it over a cliff and like you yeah, like you do. And they
- 34:40barely survived. They barely make it out of there though, like one of
- 34:44them does get ripped in half by the by mom and Papa, Like that
- 34:49was a brutal scene. Like my mom actually, like as a kid,
- 34:51my mom wouldn't let me watch The Lost World because of that stupid scene.
- 34:55I'm like, mom, you let me watch some dude get eaten alive by
- 34:59a the loss raptor in the first movie. I don't know why this is
- 35:01any different, that's true, but either way, so like, uh so,
- 35:09these t rex is, they completely just fuck up the camp and harding
- 35:17Malcolm and the ego terrorist I keep forgetting his name, but he was played
- 35:22by I think who was he played by? Let me pull up my notes
- 35:25again. He's the not Adam Sandler, Vince Vaughn. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 35:34yeah yeah, he plays uh Nick von Owen, the eco terrorists slash
- 35:40eco warrior. Uh he So those three were trapped in the r V when
- 35:47the when the t rex attacked, and uh, the other dude on their
- 35:55expedition, I think his name was Peter, he gets ripped in half by
- 36:00the by the t rex is and went so harding Malcolm and oh and they
- 36:09managed to get out of They were rescued from the RV before it plunges over
- 36:15the cliff. And the people who who rescue them are none other than the
- 36:20poachers hired by the fucking by fucking Engen. So the people that they just
- 36:25the people that they basically just like sabotaged, ended up rescuing rescuing them.
- 36:35And the thing is is that they're both they're both parties are in the same
- 36:37boat now because they when the dinosaurs were were released and they ramp page through
- 36:47their camp, the poachers, they lost their their radio equipment was destroyed,
- 36:52so now they can't call for help, and since the RV was pushed over
- 36:58the cliff by the t x's, Malcolm's team can't even get a call for
- 37:02help either, but since engine has since there's an entire engine team there,
- 37:09they revealed that there is a compound on the other side of the island that
- 37:15should have working communication equipment. So now both groups have to work together to
- 37:22make it across the island pass all the dinosaurs to get to the communication equipment.
- 37:29And so it's a little tense because, like you know, since they
- 37:37since like both are both teams are working for POST, are like supposed to
- 37:43be working against each other. Like there's a little bit of tension, but
- 37:45it's more it's just more of that like enemy of my enemy, uh my
- 37:51friend type of deal or like we're in this together. Yeah whatever, Right,
- 37:57they're all trying to get out of the island alive, so trying to
- 38:00the hell out there because all the bullshit and like we're done with this shit,
- 38:04like fuck this shit on out period. Yeah. And well, there's
- 38:10one character in this movie that was introduced that I really fucking hated because like
- 38:19he was just this weird type of like confrontational kind of character. Like he
- 38:22was just like like he his name was Deater Stark. I think that's what
- 38:30his name was. Let me see. Well anyway, so yeah, along
- 38:37the way. They's the whole group started losing people because like one guy got
- 38:43separated from the group and he gets eaten by the compies. At one point,
- 38:49they make camp and the thing is the t rex has followed them and
- 38:52attacked the camp. A lot of the team, a lot of their group
- 38:55gets eaten by the by the t rexes, and a large number of them
- 39:04run like trying to make some run for it to the compound with the to
- 39:08the engine compound. But when they do that, they have to go through
- 39:15velociraptor territory and it's it was definitely this This scene was definitely one of those
- 39:24like oh shit kind of scenes, right because to get to the compound,
- 39:28they have to go through like this like flat plane, there's like a lot
- 39:32of tall grass. Well, velociraptors make use of that and they stalk the
- 39:38group through the tall grass and they start picking off everyone one by one.
- 39:43So pretty much everyone from that big poacher group gets eaten by the velociraptor.
- 39:50But the velociraptor pack Malcolm and his friends barely make it through alive, and
- 39:55they managed to make it to the compound. Vince Vaughn's character Owen. He
- 40:02makes it to the communication equipment and it calls for help. But the thing
- 40:07is is that Malcolm, his daughter and Harding they're cornered by some velociraptors and
- 40:15like they barely escape and it's only by being smart. It's only by being
- 40:22smarter than the velociraptors were they able to do it. But you know how
- 40:27it is with loci raptors. Yeah, And so they managed to make it
- 40:32to the so Owen manages to call in for help. A helicopter comes in.
- 40:38They all managed to escape the voci raptors and escape the island. But
- 40:44before they before they're carried off the island, the helicopter does a fly by
- 40:50over the camp that they had just escaped from, and they see that the
- 40:54poachers had managed to capture the managed to capture one of the t rexes as
- 41:02well as the baby. So the movie is not just is not yet over.
- 41:09They everyone makes it back to the mainland and from there, Malcolm and
- 41:17his friends they're really trying to fight Engine to tell him like you need to
- 41:22like delay the opening of the park because they really don't know what they're doing.
- 41:27They try to go to the authorities, but no one's really listening to
- 41:30them, so instead they attend the They decide to attend this rally because engine
- 41:38is waiting for the cargo ship with the t rex is to come into port.
- 41:45But while but while they're there, the engine guys, they notice that
- 41:50the ship carrying the t rexes has gone dark, like they can see it's
- 41:55coming into port, but it's there's no one responding to their hit, and
- 42:00the ship ends up crashing into the dock. And that's when everyone realizes that
- 42:07the crew of the ship are all dead and the t Rex is not only
- 42:15awake, but it's completely like going on a rampage. Because so what happened
- 42:24was when they had originally sedated the the t Rex, they had used a
- 42:30very high dose of sedatives, so much so they weren't sure, so much
- 42:36so that they that they had a moment where the thought they thought the t
- 42:39Rex was gonna die because it's vitals had pretty much gone flat. So they
- 42:46decided to pump the damn thing full of like I think it was like adrenaline
- 42:51or something to like counter the sedatives. Yeah, it woke it up,
- 42:54and the t Rex ends up ended up going on a rampage. Because it
- 42:59was basically like, uh, like it got it was basically coked the fuck
- 43:08out, basically, you know. Yeah, So it goes, It goes
- 43:15on a rampage through the through the town. I think this was like the
- 43:20Port of San Francisco or like San Diego, and like it gets off the
- 43:29boat, rampages it likes, terrorizing everybody. Malcolm and his friends have to
- 43:36like distract it and try to find a way to get it to fallen back
- 43:40to the ship so they can trap it and sedate it again. They've learned
- 43:45that the engine had also captured the the baby, and they decide, like,
- 43:52well, let's use the baby to lure the dinosaur back to the ship.
- 43:57So they go to the new Jurassic Park that was being that was currently
- 44:01being built, and they find the baby there. They take it, They
- 44:06get they get Mama Bear's attention, and that seems to piss it off even
- 44:10more so it ends up chasing them all across the city back to the back
- 44:16to the ship, and there they do manage to sedate to sedate it,
- 44:23but not before it eats John Hammonds. I believe it was his nephew,
- 44:29because all throughout the movie, the nephew was the one that was like organizing
- 44:31and leading the poacher expedition, and he ends up getting eaten by the baby
- 44:38t Rex and dies, and this is pretty much where it ends. It
- 44:45ends with like the ship being sent back to the island so that way the
- 44:50dinosaur, that way the t rex can be released again. And it's at
- 44:55this point it's implied that the world is now fully aware that there that engine
- 45:01had recreated dinosaurs and there's a whole island full of them. Done Dune,
- 45:06done, done, done done. The drama, yep, I will say
- 45:14the So as far as like how well the movie adaptations did for each book,
- 45:21Jurassic Park nailed it. Like, it was very accurate to the book,
- 45:29and there was only a few key differences, so mainly things that they
- 45:35left out to make it more family friendly and at the same time made it
- 45:38a lot better. Yeah. Then also, so like I would definitely give
- 45:45Jurassic Park a nine out of ten, I don't give it the full ten
- 45:51because there's just a few things that they left out that made Jurassic Park a
- 45:54horror Yeah, you know, that made it more horror film. But in
- 46:01the end, it still came out to be a very good book, a
- 46:05very good movie. Now, as far as like for the Lost World,
- 46:09the book itself was so disappointing, I'm sad that I read it, Oh
- 46:15damn. But the movie really, like just they really did a lot of
- 46:22They took a lot of creative licenses with this movie and just made the story
- 46:29a whole lot better, more interesting, and more exciting. So the movie
- 46:35did. Like the movie itself is like a definitely definite ten out of ten,
- 46:40simply because it took the sheer disappointment that was the book and made it
- 46:45into something a lot better. And now that's pretty much it for these two
- 46:52books, these two movies. As far as Jurassic Park three, we're not
- 47:00really gonna go over that movie, mainly because it wasn't based off a book.
- 47:06It was just more of like Wanterbro's Universal trying to take like do something
- 47:13different. They wanted to make this into its own story, right, like
- 47:17you know, like try to make a franchise out of it. Yeah,
- 47:21and they kind of succeeded. Now that the Drastic World series is in full
- 47:24swing, I think there's gonna be another Drastic World movie. I'm not entirely
- 47:29sure, but there's only three of them currently, and I think the third
- 47:35one was lost one of this of this trilogy, as far as I have
- 47:38read, they're gonna kind of sit on it for a while and see what
- 47:43happens in the future. They kept their statemula is very vague, so there's
- 47:45probably not gonna be one coming out for a while, most likely. Yeah,
- 47:50I honestly thought that they weren't going to make a third one because the
- 47:52second one wasn't that great. I mean, they had so the dry Us
- 48:00the World series has its good points and it's bad points, Like I really
- 48:05liked the first one, and I really like parts of the second, like
- 48:08the the second one, that opening, the God with the bronze. How
- 48:15they make you feel so bad for a dinosaur in these movies multiple times,
- 48:21multiple different times. It's just irritating. That scene, Oh that that broke
- 48:27my heart. And if you and if you watch the movie, you notice
- 48:29day I'm talking on the very beginning, just like rolls up there as the
- 48:34island's exploding and you're just like, go back, turn this thing around,
- 48:37save that point. See, Like it's one of those things, is like
- 48:40the it's almost like you know what the bracketosaurs reminds me of It reminds me
- 48:46of an elephant. You know, it's big gentle. Okay, they're not
- 48:51exactly gentle, but you know, when you think about it, they're pretty
- 48:53docile unless you provoke them, and they're stupidly intelligent, like elephants are very
- 49:01intelligent. So you know, like you could tell like this that dinosaur was
- 49:07intelligent because it knew to go to the dock because it knew, like it
- 49:10would, it was gonna die. Yeah, it knew it was gonna die,
- 49:15so it tried to get to the dock and it didn't get there in
- 49:17time, and it was just like god, damn it, like broken.
- 49:23Yeah, I cried. I'm like, why am I crying for fictional fictional
- 49:29animal? Like fuck, man, you're given me the fields? And then
- 49:34some of and then the whole cloning thing was kind of interesting, but I
- 49:38kin whish they woent did other stuff with that idea, But the cloning of
- 49:44the humans and stuff too, and or the idea of them trying to use
- 49:49the dinosaurs and then also trying to trying to do human cloning and stuff was
- 49:53interesting, but like I wanted them to do it some of that differently.
- 50:00I like the I like, I like the so drastic world tried to do
- 50:06the trouble who tried to do more of a kind of a horror vibe to
- 50:07it, And some of the parts, especially with some of these new dinosaurs
- 50:12that they created from scratch, like the yeah, the endominous, Yeah,
- 50:16the Dominus rex and whatever the other one ones ye didn't even they didn't even
- 50:22create an endominus and the and the new book, Oh no, they did.
- 50:28It was the locusts they made in Endo Locus or something. Yeah.
- 50:34Yeah, they were deliberately going to release them so that way they would consume
- 50:38crops at like a highly a high rate and then like release their own vert
- 50:45like basically monopolize the food market. Yeah, they're trying. They were trying
- 50:50to destroy farms and food just for everyone to look at them like save us,
- 50:54save another one. They're the ones that caused the problem the first place.
- 50:58Yeah, so they kind of especially with the first two, they kind
- 51:01of more of a horror vibe in some scenes, and that I liked.
- 51:05I really did like the creep that like, oh shit, we could die
- 51:08here today. More of the monster because I mean the draft of Park,
- 51:14I mean, I've had people to tell me that they can. They argue
- 51:15that the draft of Park films are horror films, but just because they're monster
- 51:21films, are like Kaiju because because you get because I guess you could also
- 51:25say that by that logic, Godzilla, King Hong, all those are horror
- 51:31films and technically, like so here I'll give them. I'll give that argument.
- 51:38This the original King Kong and the original Godzilla, those two movies were
- 51:45intended to be horror films, yes, but like the ones today are not
- 51:51unless you kind of like Shenn Godzilla, Sheinn Godzilla. I would I would
- 51:54say it is a horror film, but overall, like just because it's a
- 52:01monster does it. I'm actually make the fumble horror film because I would say
- 52:07the original Drafts Park is not a horror film at all. It's a sci
- 52:12fi film. Maybe a sprinkle of like thriller horror like spikes in there,
- 52:20but I mean the only the only real horrifying part about the first movie was
- 52:25like the opening scene where the like they're trying to wrastle that that velociraptor into
- 52:35the its new into its enclosure, and it attacks and kills one of the
- 52:42uh one of the workers. Yeah, that was that part was pretty creepy,
- 52:46But other than that, it has elements, But I wasn't considered a
- 52:51full on the books. The first book I would consider more of a horror
- 52:54novel in a sense compared to the first movie. But Drastic World, I
- 53:01think takes the elements that they didn't put in the first one and try to
- 53:05apply something like that in those in the rest of World series, and they
- 53:08had some degree of success with those, especially with the first two with the
- 53:14shot with the scenes with the newly made dinosaurs that they've created from scratch,
- 53:19which I was again dumb ways to die a terrible idea. Why fuck around
- 53:23with genetics? Don't do that. Don't do that. Yeah, don't give
- 53:27a dinosaur and ability to camouflage itself to where even heat signatures can't detect it.
- 53:32Don't do that. That sounds like a dumb idea. Dumb idea,
- 53:37because you're gonna give that animal smarts and it's gonna kill everybody it comes across
- 53:40and multiply and eventually take out the human race at some point. Like,
- 53:45don't do that, dumb ideas. Yeah, like the only way they're going
- 53:49to be able to breed, Like the only way they're going to be able
- 53:52to like breed a dinosaur is by splicing it with existing If they managed to
- 53:58do find it's like existing dinosaur DNA. Well, I mean, like the
- 54:05thing about I'm just saying, like if they do end up resurrecting various extinct
- 54:12animals, like they're very close to resurrecting the Wooly mammoth. Yeah, well,
- 54:16I mean they did. They did breed in the movies, though they
- 54:21learned how to they since they cross breed them with frogs and stuff, they
- 54:24learned how to a sexually reproduce. Yep, that was the issue with the
- 54:28dinosaurs and the course if they do something like that today by splicing it with
- 54:31modern with its closest descendant, and they started, Fuck, you're gonna play
- 54:37a game, I'll fuck around and find out. That's really all sciences is
- 54:40fucking around and find out. And the fact they want to bring back like
- 54:44the moly mammoth and stuff like, is that really a smart idea? Though?
- 54:50I mean, I don't think the Holy Mammoth would be a hazard to
- 54:52humanity, but like that's a stepping stone to something much more catastrophic down lawe.
- 55:00That's somebody's like, oh my god, let's bring back the t rex,
- 55:02and it's gonna be some chicken abomination because the closest as far as I
- 55:07know, the closest relatives, like the t rex is a chicken. Fun
- 55:13fact, so it's gonna be a chicken monster because but I know, I
- 55:20was just I was thinking the same thing, like like, oh my god,
- 55:22if a fucking t rex escapes and I hear it, or they're gonna
- 55:29be able to fly and shit, because they're dinosaurs closest relatives outside of Like
- 55:32back then, when they first made the movie, they thought it was more
- 55:36repti reptilian relation, when reality it's birds. They're more like birds. And
- 55:43that's why in the newest films it made the dinosaurs look more, well,
- 55:45the newer ones like they get they gave the dinosaurs more than the appearance of
- 55:51like birds, some of them obviously, but like, if you start splicing
- 55:55them with birds and shit, eventually you're gonna create some big ones that we're
- 56:00able, that are able to fly when they weren't before they just had feathers.
- 56:07I don't want to walk outside and all of a sudden see a flying
- 56:08t rex come at me. Or flying raptor or some ship. No,
- 56:12thank you, I'm good. The largest I'm gonna tell you right now,
- 56:16the largest flying dinosaur that they that's ever been discovered is the Kates of co
- 56:22Walt Lists, the kids of Coaltist. I've never heard of that. The
- 56:28Gates all co Walt Liss is like if you google it, I don't know
- 56:31what it's wingspan is, but it's huge. It's and it's and those yeah,
- 56:38oh that's oh shit huge. It's like a it's like a pelican on
- 56:45crack it eats meat. Oh no, it's what's its wingspan? Let me
- 56:52see wing span thirty three to thirty six feet No, ma'am, No,
- 56:57ma'am. Like there's a diagram of and standing next to a person and like,
- 57:00yeah, damn it, it's like standing next to like that. It's
- 57:05beak. It's about as long as a car, if not longer. It's
- 57:09windspans a little longer than like the some of the big eagles that the Earth
- 57:15has had, but it's beak as as long as a human. M Oh
- 57:21sweetie, Oh no, we don't need that. We do not need that
- 57:24thing flying around. You know what it reminds me of it reminds me of
- 57:29a heron, like a stork of some kind as a long does. It's
- 57:35like it's like a beak made for skewering, but it's probably like a fisher
- 57:38like a it's probably like one of those kind of like fisherman type birds like
- 57:44it would mainly eat eat, probably feed more off of like fish or like
- 57:49aquatic animals. But hey, the birds bird most birds are carnivorous, so
- 57:53like these things eat like me. Because I'm looking at images of let me,
- 57:59like little die anosaurs and shit or smaller dinosaurs compared to them, so
- 58:04they would it would not be hard for them to slide. Oh look a
- 58:08human a source of food cocle. No, No, we don't need to
- 58:15start splicing birds with them doing amphibians and reptiles. That was bad enough because
- 58:22they learned how to ace actually reproduce in movies, which I'm assuming they probably
- 58:27that would probably end up happening in real life. But they did that because
- 58:31frogs and shit, some species of frogs and lizards could is actually reproduced.
- 58:37They don't need a mate. Birds, I mean, as far as I
- 58:42know, I don't think birds could a sexually reproduce. They need maids,
- 58:45but like, do you really want them flying in the air? No,
- 58:50I don't. Now they were like in some remote, remote regions of the
- 58:57world, there's still like rumors and reports of massive birds, like here in
- 59:04America. The largest bird species in America is the Californian condor. Those things
- 59:14have like a ten foot wingspan. Yeah, so like if something like if
- 59:21that thing wanted to, it could probably carry off a small child. But
- 59:23since they're since it's a condor, those are like scavengers. Yeah, they
- 59:28eat things are already dead, but like if our persons dead on the ground,
- 59:31they'll calm down, munch, munch, crunch, crunch, Like,
- 59:36well, yeah, a dead person, yep, Oh my god, that
- 59:40thing is. I love vultures, but I love that. I think vultures
- 59:45are kind of cool in a sense, but like they're terror that's terrifying.
- 59:50That thing is huge. We don't need little dinosaurs. I have wingspan as
- 59:57big as that, if not bigger, and then like able to eat a
- 59:59person. No thanks, I'm good. I can live my life without that.
- 1:00:04So any scientists out there thinking about one and bring back dinosaurs, don't,
- 1:00:09don't. Draft. The Parker is literally made as a cautionary tale and
- 1:00:14not fucking around with stuff that weren't extinct. Sure, people are wanting to
- 1:00:19do the wooly mammoth, and they're even thinking about trying to bring back the
- 1:00:22Dodo bird because they so. The Dodo birds is also another thing they're trying
- 1:00:28to bring back. They're trying to I guess they're gonna use I think pigeon
- 1:00:31d name. I think some species of pigeon or pigeons in general are closely
- 1:00:37related to the dodo bird, So I think they're gonna cross breed with the
- 1:00:42dodo bird and DNA from the of a dodo bird to like a pigeon and
- 1:00:49trying to make the Dodo bird Dodo birds boy mammoth, I guess I think
- 1:00:55what the wooly mammoth is a bit much. But that's just me mm hmm
- 1:01:04that because you're just asking for something, so yep. Well, anyway,
- 1:01:17moral of the story is leave. Let's let's just leave the dinosaurs where they
- 1:01:22are. Yeah, yeah, let's leave alone. Let's let's just leave them
- 1:01:27alone. I mean it, I think it'd be cool to see a wooly
- 1:01:30mammoth, but at the same time, like they went extinct, not only
- 1:01:37because of being overhunted by humans back in the day. Yeah, but also
- 1:01:44because the thing is that they went extinct around the end of the previous Ice
- 1:01:47Age, which was about thirteen thousand years ago. Yeah, so they were
- 1:01:53more perfectly adapted to the harsh cold weather of the Ice Age. So now
- 1:02:02we're living in an era where like global warmings and is a thing, and
- 1:02:07temperatures are really high. The temperatures are rising before they start before they're going
- 1:02:10to fall again. Yeah, so is it really beneficial. No, we're
- 1:02:16we'd probably be condemning the poor, those poor things to like a to like
- 1:02:22an early grave. I mean, God, for God's sakes. Polar bears
- 1:02:24are moving inland and breeding with grizzlies. Oh god. Yeah, so eventually
- 1:02:31the polar bear is not gonna be a thing anymore. And the other is
- 1:02:34the grizzly because they're breeding with polar bears and they're making a new bear.
- 1:02:39It's just like that. That just sounds terrifying because the grizzly bear is huge,
- 1:02:44but the polar bear is bigger. So can you just imagine the size
- 1:02:51of that fucking bear? I know, it's Oh, our polar bear is
- 1:02:55like the largest breed of bear, I think so. Yeah, with the
- 1:03:00size of a polar bear and the temper of a grizzly Oh, girl,
- 1:03:05it's a rap. You can have. You can have Canada, you can
- 1:03:08have the northern region of the world. Take it. We don't want it,
- 1:03:10we don't need it. Nah. Nah, So that's happening too.
- 1:03:16So breeds animals don't why why what are you gonna do? We you?
- 1:03:25And so it's like, are we gonna be able to see like man mets
- 1:03:30versus moose rampaging each other because I think I think, man, that's are
- 1:03:37bigger than a mouse. Oh, they're way bigger. But huh, let's
- 1:03:43see here. Apparently it's actually the codiac bear that's the biggest bear species.
- 1:03:47But the Kodiak bear. Where's that at. It's like in Oh, it's
- 1:03:52like in Canada. It's in Alaska. Okay, So Alaska, Canada,
- 1:03:58Kodiak beard. Oh these things? Oh god god, Well, anyway,
- 1:04:10thank you for joining us on our segue from dinosaurs to mammoths to bears.
- 1:04:15Yeah, we get distracted easily here. Oh. Actually, they're also considered
- 1:04:21to be some of the grizzly bear. Okay, so it might be the
- 1:04:24Kodiak bear breeding with the polar bear anyway, oh god, anyway, thank
- 1:04:30you guys for listening today's episode. Don't bring back animals that don't that don't
- 1:04:34need to be brought back. Okay, yeah, I leave them dead.
- 1:04:38They're probably honest, they're probably on this earth somewhere. Amazon has been rumored
- 1:04:42of having dinosaurs for god does how long? So leave them along, leave
- 1:04:45them there. There's like a really remote region of Australia that there's like absolutely
- 1:04:54no civilization because of how remote it is, and there's rumors of their being
- 1:05:00like big lizards there. Now we're not talking about like we're not talking about
- 1:05:03like crocodiles, alligators or whatnot. We're talking about like something like a komodo
- 1:05:09dragon, but bigger. Oh that's nice. Yeah. So I mean,
- 1:05:14if you're if you're from Australia and you happen to be listening to this like
- 1:05:19right in, let us know, because like we're not actually fact checking,
- 1:05:25like this is shit that I've heard on like the Discovery Channel or like eel
- 1:05:30us a house void. Let's know. But until then, tune in next
- 1:05:36week. We will be reviewing hell Bound Hearts. Oh no, yeah,
- 1:05:44yeah, yeah yeah yeah, yea, yeah, yeah, you're right.
- 1:05:45Ah, you're right, Ah, you're right. Yeah. Hell about Heart.
- 1:05:48Yeah. For those of who don't know, that is yep, Hell
- 1:05:54Razor, we'll be diving into the gayness of Clive Barker. And also we
- 1:06:00will be joined by another host as well. Yeah you know them from another
- 1:06:06from some of the other Neonic Void production podcast Bocaclyps Void Annica. It's Tiff
- 1:06:15slash Housekeeper. They'll be joining us for the hell Bound Heart and Hell Razor
- 1:06:19films and they'll be doing housekeeping for us today in that episode as well.
- 1:06:25I know because I'm terrible on it. So until then, Bob
