- 0:06Speaker 1: After talking with Trev, I just went home and cried.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I thought you were going to tell me you were inspired.
- 0:12Speaker 1: No, well, yeah, he did have an inspiring story. I
- 0:15Speaker 1: mean I.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Thought the way that you like touched him on the
- 0:19Speaker 2: shoulder when he came in was kind of interesting.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Well, I'm like mother Teresa kneeling down to a young
- 0:26Speaker 1: boy with rickets. I didn't know as Trev. I thought.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I thought it was like the man who stands outside
- 0:33Speaker 1: the Westfield sells pens.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Anyway, welcome to another episode of the Driver's Show.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I didn't realize that was Trev. I thought it was
- 0:42Speaker 1: a man who stands out the supermarket with the big issue.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I'm not laughing either. What did you drive this week?
- 0:53Speaker 1: I drove a Porta GT three rs.
- 0:57Speaker 2: And it looked so nice. Who did that belong to?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Don't ask, don't ask, no, Um. We will be featuring
- 1:07Speaker 1: that GTR that GT three rs in the future in
- 1:11Speaker 1: the next episode, yes.
- 1:12Speaker 2: So keep an ear out for that. Oh I'm excited.
- 1:15Speaker 1: My god, that car nearly killed me. I was gonna
- 1:18Speaker 1: ask you what you've checked out lately, and I'm gonna
- 1:22Speaker 1: answer my own question because you got to see the
- 1:25Speaker 1: BMW XM and as you know, I'm not a BMW guy.
- 1:30Speaker 1: You're not the M three. Yes guy, Yeah that's true.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Shout out to our peeps in South Korea, thank you
- 1:38Speaker 1: for listening. No, as you know, I'm like an M
- 1:41Speaker 1: three guy. Love them cool but the generally, but this
- 1:47Speaker 1: XM wow arguably the best way to spend three hundred
- 1:53Speaker 1: thousand dollars.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah plus one roads.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Wow, I'm wildly impressed. In fact, this is probably probably
- 2:00Speaker 1: my favorite luxury suvl wow.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yeah. So a bit of background to it. This is
- 2:06Speaker 2: the first like actual unique BMW M car since I
- 2:11Speaker 2: think the M one. And when I say that, this
- 2:13Speaker 2: doesn't share a platform with any other BMW product. So
- 2:18Speaker 2: this is on a bespoke. It's a modified version of
- 2:22Speaker 2: their their class architecture, clustered architecture, of some of the
- 2:27Speaker 2: BMW related term but they basically have just jammed a
- 2:31Speaker 2: twin turbo V eight under the bonnet. They have a
- 2:33Speaker 2: plug in hybrid drive train and they've gone to town
- 2:36Speaker 2: on luxury and just making it look like that. And
- 2:40Speaker 2: if you haven't seen it, just google it right now.
- 2:42Speaker 1: It's all over our socials to the Drivers Show dot
- 2:44Speaker 1: com is where we're at on instet all pictures there.
- 2:47Speaker 2: So people don't like it.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Oh no, and like I'm critical on BMW BIN that
- 2:52Speaker 1: is that is a work of art. Look at the
- 2:55Speaker 1: Look at the textured roof on it, go down, go down.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah. So the roof is a three D layout and
- 3:02Speaker 2: it's basically like I said, of mountains upside down that
- 3:04Speaker 2: you can run your fingers across. It's like an Elkintari
- 3:06Speaker 2: suede material. It has one hundred LEDs around the side
- 3:09Speaker 2: there to illuminate it. In the press photos you'll see
- 3:13Speaker 2: it has like a brown leather interior. This is called
- 3:15Speaker 2: vintage leather, and I said, fuck is vintage leather?
- 3:18Speaker 1: And it sounds like repurposing.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Well, what they said is that it's material that has
- 3:24Speaker 2: never been used in a car before because they want
- 3:26Speaker 2: it to be raw. So typically with a leather seat,
- 3:30Speaker 2: they don't use imperfect leathers because they tarnish the interior.
- 3:35Speaker 2: When you sit on them, you can generate cracks. So
- 3:38Speaker 2: here on the dashboard it has veins, It sometimes has imperfections,
- 3:42Speaker 2: and it just looks stunning and it runs sort of
- 3:45Speaker 2: along the whole dashboard in doors and it sounds unreal
- 3:48Speaker 2: as well.
- 3:49Speaker 1: It basically kind of has that vibe of an old
- 3:51Speaker 1: Chesterfield couch.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yep, exactly, but the second row is exactly that. It
- 3:55Speaker 2: has these wrap around cushions on the side, so you
- 3:59Speaker 2: treat it as as a couch effectively. The problem with that, though,
- 4:03Speaker 2: is that it's an M car. This is like a
- 4:05Speaker 2: proper fast M car, and that there's no side support
- 4:08Speaker 2: in the second row. So if you are going for
- 4:10Speaker 2: a fang and you've got people in the second row,
- 4:12Speaker 2: they're going to be all over the place. There's a deal.
- 4:14Speaker 1: They are in a luxury car. They can put up
- 4:16Speaker 1: and shut up.
- 4:17Speaker 2: The wheels twenty three inchall ow wheels available, that's huge.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Ridiculous and twenty three inches too. You'd expect it to
- 4:24Speaker 1: that ride would.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Be adaptive air suspension, so it should be okay. But yeah,
- 4:30Speaker 2: I think it's cool. And there's an even faster version
- 4:31Speaker 2: of this coming with like a thousand newton meters of talk,
- 4:35Speaker 2: so it'll do zero to one hundred and under five
- 4:37Speaker 2: seconds like low fours. And that's the version that's coming.
- 4:41Speaker 2: It's called the label Red. So look at that.
- 4:46Speaker 1: How the kidney grill kind of illuminates as well. Looks great, But.
- 4:49Speaker 2: This looks if you compare this to a Mercedes Maybark GLS, like,
- 4:54Speaker 2: this looks way nicer. G. The Maybach GLS just looks
- 4:58Speaker 2: like a GLA Like you'd never really know the difference
- 5:01Speaker 2: unless you knew what you were looking for.
- 5:02Speaker 1: And yeah, yeah, this just looks out there and cool.
- 5:05Speaker 2: So I can't wait to see what color people spec
- 5:08Speaker 2: this with, you know, just the crazy color combos available.
- 5:11Speaker 1: And that's another thing I love about it too, because
- 5:13Speaker 1: you can really customize this thing. You can just go
- 5:16Speaker 1: to absolute town on it. It's got stance. It's a
- 5:19Speaker 1: car with like Series BDE you know what I mean.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It's just got a big, big, big drive energy.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yes, big driver's energy.
- 5:27Speaker 1: How much did that one cost us?
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:29Speaker 1: Do we have?
- 5:30Speaker 2: Are we getting fined? God? Are you gonna have to
- 5:32Speaker 2: sell another Stinger to cover that?
- 5:36Speaker 1: Hey? Moving on from that, The most arguably the most
- 5:40Speaker 1: controversial car of the last couple of years, and I
- 5:43Speaker 1: wanted to get your thoughts on this is the C
- 5:45Speaker 1: sixty three. Yes, so hybrid. Now, this is an iconic car,
- 5:50Speaker 1: and the whole disgust around it, I guess is the
- 5:53Speaker 1: fact that it's hybrid.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got a real issue with this. Because the
- 5:58Speaker 2: C sixty three as it stands now is a tween
- 6:00Speaker 2: turbov eight. People weren't expecting it to handle well. It
- 6:05Speaker 2: just does big burnouts, It makes lots of noise and
- 6:07Speaker 2: it's cool. So when the twin turbovava, yeah, so when
- 6:11Speaker 2: you switch it to a four cylinder hybrid, okay, I
- 6:14Speaker 2: no longer have the noise, So now I expect this
- 6:17Speaker 2: to handle incredibly well. Problem is, all the hybrid equipment
- 6:21Speaker 2: they've added is around three hundred kilos heavier. It weighs
- 6:24Speaker 2: now about as much as a highlux So what you're
- 6:29Speaker 2: doing is you're adding all this stuff in to make
- 6:32Speaker 2: it fast in a straight line, but ultimately you're going
- 6:34Speaker 2: to sacrifice handling. And they say that it's quicker and
- 6:36Speaker 2: all that sort of stuff, which I get. But you
- 6:38Speaker 2: are now comparing an all will drive C class to
- 6:40Speaker 2: a rear will drive one, so obviously it's going to
- 6:42Speaker 2: be quicker. It doesn't have the noise that it used
- 6:44Speaker 2: to have. So what is the purpose of this car?
- 6:47Speaker 2: So you would buy a BMW if you wanted the
- 6:50Speaker 2: prowess and all that stuff, or an Howdy if you
- 6:53Speaker 2: want it all will drive performance. So where does this
- 6:55Speaker 2: sit now? I just don't get it.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I think the balancing act is really on numbers. Want
- 7:00Speaker 1: to kind of improve on numbers, like numbers sell shit
- 7:02Speaker 1: on paper. I think that's kind of where they've gone.
- 7:05Speaker 1: But as you said, they've sacrificed a lot to get there.
- 7:08Speaker 2: I just I'm not feeling it. I'm sure it'll be
- 7:10Speaker 2: great when we drive it, you know, I'm sure it will.
- 7:13Speaker 2: But if I was in the market now, I'd be
- 7:16Speaker 2: buying the last of the V eights and just tucking
- 7:19Speaker 2: that away. I don't know that I'd be buying this
- 7:22Speaker 2: in ten years time. Who's going to service that.
- 7:24Speaker 3: I don't subscribe to the argument they've ditched the twin Turbovo.
- 7:28Speaker 3: It's not a real C sixty three because shit moves on.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Just deal with it. But indeed, if they are moving
- 7:35Speaker 1: to it and it makes improvements purely just on numbers
- 7:38Speaker 1: and not on driver ability, then they've kind of killed
- 7:42Speaker 1: an iconic car.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Yeah, because it was always If you think of the
- 7:45Speaker 2: last gen, the last naturally aspirated V eight one, that
- 7:48Speaker 2: thing was loud and it's just cool.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's what they always have them.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Now you're going to have all this noise that
- 7:55Speaker 2: isn't really real, And I don't know, I just think
- 7:59Speaker 2: that they had V six is available, so why would
- 8:02Speaker 2: you not just get a hypo V six and just
- 8:05Speaker 2: go to town on that. Instead you've gone a four
- 8:07Speaker 2: cylinder turbo which is reserved for a class.
- 8:10Speaker 1: The Americans are doing and I'm really pumping in the
- 8:13Speaker 1: manufactured noise? What did I see?
- 8:15Speaker 2: Was it the show you're thinking of?
- 8:18Speaker 1: The Was it the camera?
- 8:20Speaker 2: No, Nay, they're doing the the was it the Dodge,
- 8:26Speaker 2: the Challenger, the ev They've got all the engineered.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Noise and they've like properly put like a boom box
- 8:32Speaker 1: underneath the car the blasts noise.
- 8:36Speaker 2: How cool does that look? By the way, the Challenger
- 8:39Speaker 2: EV it just looks bloody insane and knowing Dodge, they're
- 8:43Speaker 2: just going to go stupid with it.
- 8:44Speaker 1: And they will make no apologies for it. The fact
- 8:47Speaker 1: that they've got a fucking boom box under that car
- 8:50Speaker 1: to just make noise. Just to me, I love the
- 8:54Speaker 1: I love the audacity behind that.
- 8:56Speaker 2: It's it's bloody cool and I think we as actually
- 8:59Speaker 2: came out this. You can said that at the moment,
- 9:01Speaker 2: you can buy all these aftermarket mopar accessories and other
- 9:05Speaker 2: sort of bits and pieces for these cars. They're saying
- 9:09Speaker 2: that they won't allow you to modify the EV components
- 9:12Speaker 2: in these moving forwards, So I'll be interested to see
- 9:15Speaker 2: what happens there.
- 9:16Speaker 1: That's interesting, you know when these sorts of cars come
- 9:20Speaker 1: out with the EV tech inside them, because you know,
- 9:22Speaker 1: gone to the days of putting this in and doing that, and.
- 9:26Speaker 2: You know people in air filter people enjoy that sort
- 9:28Speaker 2: of stuff. Yeah, yeah, I don't know what you're going
- 9:30Speaker 2: to be able to do with this. You might be
- 9:31Speaker 2: able to take weight out of it, but if it's
- 9:32Speaker 2: all software systems that are fully locked, you will have
- 9:36Speaker 2: smart people come along and unlock them. Like with all
- 9:38Speaker 2: new cars, all the manufacturers come out with an ECU
- 9:41Speaker 2: that's impossible to crack, and then six months later you've
- 9:44Speaker 2: got a crack for it. You can start changing things.
- 9:46Speaker 2: This will be the same, but there's going to be like.
- 9:48Speaker 1: That kick dad with I'm just going to go work
- 9:51Speaker 1: on my car because he wants to avoid his wife
- 9:54Speaker 1: and children, and he's just like popped the front of
- 9:57Speaker 1: it and he's actually just staring into the bit. He's like,
- 10:00Speaker 1: there's nothing there. What am I going to do? With
- 10:02Speaker 1: these wires, you might.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Get electrocutes himself.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Where's Dad?
- 10:07Speaker 2: Why is the electricity not working anymore? Dad's unfortunately.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Jesus Christ somewhere dark. Why is the electricity not working? Well,
- 10:17Speaker 1: your dad's dead and he did pay the electricity bill.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I want you to go into the other room. There
- 10:22Speaker 1: is a man coming into the house. And if you
- 10:24Speaker 1: hear some noises from mummy, don't panic. I'm just getting
- 10:28Speaker 1: the rempaid. Now, turning PlayStation right up. Hey, you know
- 10:36Speaker 1: what we should We should include a little intro because
- 10:40Speaker 1: Paul did an investigation, so let's call it Paul's investigation.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Roll the cool sound effect. Wow, tell me about your investigation, So, detective,
- 10:56Speaker 1: all I did was.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Write a story about what it's been like owning out
- 10:59Speaker 2: Tesla or why, and the article exploded. It's got like
- 11:03Speaker 2: three hundred comments now and my brother backstories. I used
- 11:08Speaker 2: to be part of the Model three and Model y
- 11:10Speaker 2: owners group on Facebook.
- 11:11Speaker 1: My god, how you were not a virgin. You're part
- 11:18Speaker 1: of the EV Council on one point, so don't lie.
- 11:23Speaker 1: You're part of something in your bloody strata committee.
- 11:26Speaker 3: I'm in charge of the EV around here. I'm poor.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Have you not seen my work on YouTube. I'm big
- 11:33Speaker 3: on the YouTube's you semiconductors, do you know what they are?
- 11:38Speaker 1: You put a fucking charging port in this place post test?
- 11:42Speaker 2: Sorry, So basically I had to leave the group because
- 11:46Speaker 2: they were just pissing me off. There. There's just so
- 11:48Speaker 2: many Karens and idiots in there who just think that
- 11:51Speaker 2: the Tesla is the best thing in the world because
- 11:53Speaker 2: it's the first new car they've owned in forever.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Anyway, and look good on him. They've stuck a lot
- 11:58Speaker 1: of cash into it. I'd enjoy. And when you start
- 12:02Speaker 1: making people, I was going to say making people feel
- 12:06Speaker 1: like shit, but when you start calling someone out, I'm like, oh,
- 12:09Speaker 1: maybe we didn't do the right thing by paying eighty
- 12:12Speaker 1: thousand dollars.
- 12:13Speaker 2: And maybe use the savior.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe this isn't the best thing we ever did.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Well yeah, well look anyway, I wrote an honest story
- 12:21Speaker 2: about what it's like to won't it, And I called
- 12:22Speaker 2: out some of the shit things like the ride is
- 12:25Speaker 2: terrible and they didn't engineer it correctly. When they did that,
- 12:29Speaker 2: we drove it around lang Lang, and the first one
- 12:31Speaker 2: that I drove in the wet handled great, So it
- 12:33Speaker 2: didn't go that fast. This time around and took my
- 12:35Speaker 2: car down and we did a lap of the track
- 12:37Speaker 2: at a faster pace like I do with every other car,
- 12:40Speaker 2: and it was shockingly bad, Like it had so many
- 12:42Speaker 2: issues with the stability control because it has a single
- 12:45Speaker 2: motor on the rear axle. Every time you enter a
- 12:47Speaker 2: corner and you turn in, the ride is so firm
- 12:51Speaker 2: that you unload the wheel that's getting talked to it,
- 12:54Speaker 2: and the stability control just starts going bananas. Then, in
- 12:57Speaker 2: addition to that, because it has a single motor, when
- 12:59Speaker 2: you go for the break, you get regen. If you
- 13:01Speaker 2: hit a bump into a breaking zone, it will basically
- 13:03Speaker 2: remove regen temporarily because you've hit a bump and then
- 13:07Speaker 2: you're breaking modulation changes. So I pointed all this stuff
- 13:10Speaker 2: out in the article. I also mentioned that I think
- 13:12Speaker 2: it is sin for the ugly. I just don't think
- 13:15Speaker 2: it's a good looking car, and that they're now so
- 13:17Speaker 2: common that you see them everywhere and it's lost kind
- 13:18Speaker 2: of it's appeal. But I talked about the positives, and
- 13:21Speaker 2: the positives are the room, you know, some of the
- 13:24Speaker 2: features and stuff like that is pretty cool. So I
- 13:27Speaker 2: was happy with all that, but then yeah, a lot
- 13:29Speaker 2: of the comments on our website were great. They were
- 13:31Speaker 2: all quite positive. And then someone sent me screenshots from
- 13:35Speaker 2: the Model three and Model WI owners group that I left,
- 13:39Speaker 2: and let's just say a lot of Karens were unimpressed
- 13:43Speaker 2: with my honest commentary of that vehicle.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Wow, was any of those commenters Donner?
- 13:52Speaker 3: No?
- 13:52Speaker 2: This one guy and I won't read out his last name,
- 13:55Speaker 2: but it'll probably give it away anyway. So his name
- 13:58Speaker 2: was Nicholas, but it was spelt n I k O
- 14:01Speaker 2: l a u s And I'm like, Nicolas, Yes, it's
- 14:05Speaker 2: like I go, lass, I can see that you were
- 14:06Speaker 2: probably bullied growing up. And he wrote ha ha ha
- 14:10Speaker 2: ha in capital letters. Is this guy for real? Straight away?
- 14:13Speaker 2: I know this person is out of touch? And it
- 14:16Speaker 2: was because I explained why we bought an s u
- 14:18Speaker 2: V because we just had a kid and.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Touches that guy that's Nicholas, Thanks cockhead.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Anyway, So yeah, there was a whole bunch of negative
- 14:29Speaker 2: comments in there. So and then they.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Bet you Donna commented, I bet you Donna was like, Pevley,
- 14:36Speaker 1: you haven't called me sweeter, you complain about driving this
- 14:40Speaker 1: car and the work if you've driven me in the work.
- 14:44Speaker 3: You know, shoes, She put.
- 14:48Speaker 1: Me titch over my shoulders.
- 14:53Speaker 2: It is all on.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I'll give you fullet on me.
- 14:59Speaker 3: And I'll tell you your own thing. I want to
- 15:01Speaker 3: see you walking down the beach with that big old
- 15:05Speaker 3: no Bundy rum like a boogie board. Sheer Donna. Please
- 15:14Speaker 3: write back, Please comment, luck, please write back.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Oh god, but anyway, So yeah, that was that was
- 15:24Speaker 1: That was an interesting experiment. There's a lot of debate
- 15:27Speaker 1: going on at the moment between EV's and Hydrogen, right,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and I recently spent a week in the Hyundai Nexso,
- 15:39Speaker 1: so it's our very first.
- 15:40Speaker 2: I actually saw it out the front there, did you. Yes,
- 15:43Speaker 2: quite an interesting looking car.
- 15:45Speaker 1: It's funny because it's probably the size of a Tucson.
- 15:48Speaker 1: I don't really know what to compare this to, to
- 15:50Speaker 1: be honest, because I'm like, well, that's not really apart
- 15:52Speaker 1: from what the Toyota Mari is. Hydrogen, I don't know
- 15:56Speaker 1: what to compare it to. It is pretty much the
- 15:57Speaker 1: size of a Tucson. It's a bit plain, Jane, isn't it.
- 16:00Speaker 1: It's a bit Yeah, it looks a bit generic.
- 16:02Speaker 2: And they actually sold a stack of them to councils
- 16:06Speaker 2: in the act.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I think I think they did a deal. I think
- 16:08Speaker 1: they did a deal with about twenty or so of
- 16:11Speaker 1: them to Camera and there's literally one charging I think
- 16:15Speaker 1: there's one or two charging stations there. Because they're not
- 16:18Speaker 1: really selling here, they can't sort of give us a
- 16:20Speaker 1: specific price, even though they've done a deal with our politicians,
- 16:24Speaker 1: but US about fifty eight thousand dollars US, so that's
- 16:28Speaker 1: about seventy five and they have.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Lots of subsidies in the US as well.
- 16:31Speaker 1: I know if that's well, here's the thing. It's also
- 16:33Speaker 1: seventy two pounds, which is about one hundred and twenty
- 16:39Speaker 1: four Australian dollars, and we're most likely to mirror that.
- 16:44Speaker 1: So Camera has spent a lot of money on these cars.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I think the argument is hydrogen is great, but in
- 16:50Speaker 1: bigger cars. You probably won't see them in smaller cars
- 16:53Speaker 1: such as this twoson or you wouldn't get any smaller.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I tell you one thing, it was tacked out, lots
- 16:59Speaker 1: of safety, was complete weird button fest in the middle.
- 17:01Speaker 1: You've got to say it, I haven't seen a car
- 17:03Speaker 1: with buttons like this for a long time. But twelve
- 17:06Speaker 1: point three entertainment. Same with the driver's display, blind spot cameras,
- 17:11Speaker 1: it's got all the sort of latest tech remote parking,
- 17:13Speaker 1: assyst all that sort of stuff. Like it's great. I
- 17:16Speaker 1: think it even does I don't know what you call it,
- 17:17Speaker 1: outboard power.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Yeah, like you can run things.
- 17:21Speaker 1: You can basically if you going camping or something and
- 17:23Speaker 1: you want to plug a toaster in or whatever, you
- 17:25Speaker 1: can do all that. So the car's kind of quite
- 17:28Speaker 1: tecked out, and it drives pretty good. Rides well, a
- 17:31Speaker 1: little bit sort of bumpy here and there. There's a
- 17:33Speaker 1: lot more road noise in this than I was expecting,
- 17:36Speaker 1: But generally, I think it's a good car. Filling up
- 17:39Speaker 1: this thing it's about you'll get about six hundred kilometers
- 17:42Speaker 1: claimed from it, and it takes about five minutes to
- 17:45Speaker 1: fill up, which is amazing. So in one sense, you
- 17:49Speaker 1: kind of go, this is where we should be going.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Why we worried about EV's I don't. I mean, you'll
- 17:54Speaker 1: be able to explain this a little bit better. But
- 17:56Speaker 1: my understanding is the manufacturing around this. It's expensive. I
- 18:01Speaker 1: mean it's an expensive car, one hundred and thirty thousand
- 18:04Speaker 1: dollars roughly for what is essentially a luxury tuson.
- 18:08Speaker 2: You're paying an early adopted tax on that. But a
- 18:11Speaker 2: hydrogen car is effectively just an EV. You're creating energy
- 18:15Speaker 2: using that hydrogen fuel stack. You're then running an electric motor.
- 18:19Speaker 2: There's a battery there as well, so it is effectively
- 18:21Speaker 2: just an EV that uses hydrogen as its energy source
- 18:24Speaker 2: instead of a bigger battery that you charge through a cable.
- 18:28Speaker 2: The thing is, though, that hydrogen it's very, very energy
- 18:34Speaker 2: intensive to produce, so when you are producing a lot
- 18:36Speaker 2: of hydrogen, you need a lot of energy to produce it.
- 18:39Speaker 2: That's fine if you're running solar and you're using renewables,
- 18:43Speaker 2: but ultimately on a huge scale like this, you have
- 18:47Speaker 2: to look at the cost effectiveness of doing it. But
- 18:49Speaker 2: these vehicles as well, they're safe. There's definitely no safety issues.
- 18:53Speaker 2: There are a lot of people think hydrogen and get
- 18:56Speaker 2: night terrors at the thought of it exploding. I don't
- 18:58Speaker 2: think there's ever been a documented ca so this the
- 19:01Speaker 2: gas from a hydrogen tack escapes very quickly.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Oh my god, it's funny you say that, right, because
- 19:07Speaker 1: I'm not joking. I was. Every morning when i'd jump
- 19:09Speaker 1: in this thing, I'll be like, oh god, there's a
- 19:12Speaker 1: there's a smell. Now, I don't want to say that. Yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 1: oh god, I wish it was done. Just quietly, ladies
- 19:18Speaker 1: and gentlemen. Ginna's ready, it comes and you can just
- 19:23Speaker 1: picture a number forty two, number forty two. Your meal
- 19:26Speaker 1: is ready.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I hope you like a bit of bloody cheese and
- 19:30Speaker 3: your parmesana.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah. So when I was sitting in this car every morning,
- 19:34Speaker 1: it would there would be an odd smell and it
- 19:38Speaker 1: smelt like not done it. But it smelled like a
- 19:41Speaker 1: man of you know, that sort of factory. What am
- 19:43Speaker 1: I thinking about? It smelled sort of like an artificial gas. Yeah,
- 19:47Speaker 1: it was odd, but that quickly goes away within thirty seconds.
- 19:50Speaker 1: I was like, oh, it sounds like me and Trevor.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I have done a road trip in this car. Generally
- 19:55Speaker 1: I thought it was a great car. I don't know.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I like the idea of these taking off a little
- 20:00Speaker 1: bit like it'll happen in trucking. I was going to say,
- 20:04Speaker 1: the transport industry. I really hope this happens.
- 20:06Speaker 2: There's a company, I think it's called His, and it's
- 20:08Speaker 2: an Australian company that's doing hydrogen trucks. And this is
- 20:12Speaker 2: where it'll work well because you can set up big
- 20:14Speaker 2: refilling stations on the on the freeway and they basically
- 20:20Speaker 2: are a good place for trucks to stop and fuel.
- 20:22Speaker 2: You've got depots that trucks go back to each night.
- 20:25Speaker 2: It makes sense at the moment. For cars, it's just
- 20:28Speaker 2: the market isn't there. It's not big enough, and they're
- 20:30Speaker 2: not putting enough energy into it. The other thing to
- 20:32Speaker 2: note as well, as governments love hydrogen because it gives
- 20:35Speaker 2: them an ability to tax you per liter or per kilogram,
- 20:38Speaker 2: whereas with evs it's hard to tax them outside of
- 20:41Speaker 2: just per kilometer travel. So with this there's a there's
- 20:44Speaker 2: a way for them to add a tax onto it,
- 20:46Speaker 2: and that every time you feel you got to pay
- 20:48Speaker 2: that tax.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I don't know, don't quote me on this, but I've
- 20:50Speaker 1: got a feeling the deal they did in Canberra was
- 20:57Speaker 1: was the fuel was free.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah, right, So one has to create that. So yeah, Look,
- 21:03Speaker 2: I'm excited for the future of it. Ultimately, though, I
- 21:05Speaker 2: think that in let's say five years time, when they
- 21:08Speaker 2: get this technology better in hydrogen is easier to produce,
- 21:12Speaker 2: I think the batteries will have advanced enough to be
- 21:14Speaker 2: small enough to charge at the pace it takes to
- 21:17Speaker 2: put this together, and then that means you can still
- 21:20Speaker 2: charge an EV at home and stuff. You can't fill
- 21:22Speaker 2: a hydrogen car at home, so that is one big
- 21:25Speaker 2: disadvantage in comparison to evs.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I think we're going in a great place, like I'm
- 21:29Speaker 1: hopeful with stuff like this. When I see this, I
- 21:31Speaker 1: go we are actively working on a.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, have we got any comments to read out?
- 21:38Speaker 1: There was a lot of backlash about Trevor Standard.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Has anyone slid into our DMS. Hey while you're doing that,
- 21:45Speaker 2: if you're listening to this right now and obviously not driving,
- 21:48Speaker 2: but and maybe when you stop, can you please leave
- 21:50Speaker 2: a rating, a five star positive rating for this show.

- 23:44Speaker 1: I once was at Sexpot and I got poked in
- 23:46Speaker 1: the eye by a dildo.
- 23:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I was walking past a stand and like a big
- 23:50Speaker 1: sort of fourteen inch thing something going on on stage.
