- 0:35SPEAKER_00: What's up, everybody?
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host over there, Mike White, South Richmond, recording Sunday night.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: How you doing, my man?
- 0:43SPEAKER_01: I am doing just fine.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: And that's about the best I could ask for right now.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: How are you?
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: It's good.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: It's good.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: I'm exhausted.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: I was out of town all weekend with some friends.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I actually still have some sunscreen in my beard.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: I'm not fully recovered, but um I'm excited to be here with you talking college football, my favorite thing in the world.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm also excited for a good night.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: We are so close.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: We are so close.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Week zero is right around the corner.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: The best thing is coming off you know a weekend is the weekends fly by, and then you know, another chunk of countdown of towards college football is just that's right.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: You know, that's falling off.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: One thing the one thing always sticks out to me, I always know college football is coming because there's 12-year-olds on baseball, but 12 year olds on TV playing baseball.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Because when you see them, when you see the Little League World Series get started, it's like football is right.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: You do you do say that every year.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: I do say that every year.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: It's it's uh it's still true every year, but it's still true every year.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: It's the first time our viewers have or listeners have have heard it.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: So it's true, it's a joke that you and I think it's been a lot of this fun for the last 15 years.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Anyway, uh we'll start with what's what's what are we drinking?
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, what are you drinking tonight?
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I went to Sheets specifically to get something weird for tonight, and uh, I got a tropical beer hug.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: It's a goose island.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Um, apparently it's a vacation for your taste buds, and it's pretty good.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: It's it's a little too tropical for me, but I'm enjoying it just fine.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Nice, nice.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Um, tonight I've got a I've got a beer called what was this beer called?
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: This is Powers Combined India Pale Ale from Smartmouth in Williamsburg, uh, Virginia.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna lie to you, this was a cooler beer from my uh weekend excursion.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: A buddy dropped it in my cooler.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: I don't know anything about it.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: The graphics on the can are all um uh Power Rangers, um, Captain Planet style-esque.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a it's a good looking can.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Earth, wind, fire situation.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: It's a good IPA, it's a hoppy as heck.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Um, it's boozy as heck.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: I think it's like eight or nine percent.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: It's limit ooh, limited release.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Look at me, look at me.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: How about that?
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I like good can art.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: I've got a nice vacationing bear on mine, which is cool.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: This is this, you and I have really done.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, those of you who are just listening and not watching on YouTube, we've really blowed we've really we've really outdone ourselves with the beer graphics today.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: This is this is the first for us.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Plus, both of these are like 19 ouncers, so yeah.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: We're also yeah, both be hammered by the end of the show.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: But got the uh got got the big can.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: The big can, got the big can.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Uh so we're doing uh uh this is a second episode, seven part of our uh preseason series.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Um tonight we're gonna talk about uh top 25.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: We're gonna go through kind of our thoughts, what we like and don't like.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Uh we're and for tonight's we're using uh CBS Sports' uh most recent rankings.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Uh AP and coaches haven't come out yet, so we're gonna do that, go through there.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And we're also gonna talk about transfers.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: I'm sure if you've talked at all or heard anything about college football, the transfer portal has never been more important than it is in 2022 with so many kids coming and going and so many teams.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: So, what we're gonna do is we're gonna talk about the top, I don't know, 10, 15 names that you're gonna be seeing on college game day every Saturday uh at the at a new school.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: What we think they're gonna do, how well is their transition gonna go?
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Kind of that sort of thing.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, lots of action while you weren't paying attention.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: And even now, your best player may be in the transfer portal.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: So it's something um it's it's cool because we have to keep an eye, it gives us something to keep an eye on in college football 24-7, like we like to do anyway, but it's chaos.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: It's a whole new layer for a long time in college football.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Transfers were really only for the guys on the bench, and you know, these were the guys who were probably second or third year, or locker room, probably locker room, couldn't crack, couldn't crack the depth chart anyway.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And the the chances of them going to a new team and they're making a big impact, especially on a national scale in a really competitive club, just wasn't that wasn't that realistic.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: You didn't see it happen.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: That's not the true anymore.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: The Bolitnikov uh award winner, which we'll talk about, switch teams.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: There's two because there's multiple all-American Heisman candidates who have switched teams.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Like we're talking about the major faces and players in college football all over the place getting jumbled up on new teams.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna talk about those.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: These are names um by October.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: You're gonna know them all the time.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: But we'll get to that uh later.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Um, so let's call let's let's talk about let's talk about the rankings.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: So Mike and I are gonna go through uh the top 25 rankings, uh kind of uh we're breaking into five parts, one through five, six, ten.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: And on on each one, we're gonna talk about uh what we like, what we don't like, kind of give you guys a little preview on kind of the whole national picture.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Uh just real quick, one through five, CBS, we got Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Utah, Clemson as your one through five.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Mike, what stands out to you right there?
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: I think that there are very three very, very obvious choices that stand out to me.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: I don't think anybody would have any problem seeing those top three Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia sitting there.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think we both agree that Clemson kind of sticks out, especially based on what they did last year.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: It's basically the voters saying that they have a lot of faith in Debo Sweeney and a lot of faith in DJ Uy Anglale because he has been pegged the starter again.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: He didn't produce last year, and Clemson will go the way that he goes.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Luckily for them, and and for this accuracy of this poll, they're not gonna get tested right away by any means.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: It's gonna, they're gonna have time to sort out the quarterback position well into the season.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: I think they don't even play their first uh tough game until week like four or five.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I'm gonna agree with everything you said.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, Alabama and Ohio State are absolutely loaded, and they are they are a cut above, they are on their own tier of college football superiority on top of the pyramid right now.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Uh Georgia is still loaded with five stars.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Utah brings everybody back, and they were very good last year.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: They will be very good again.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love actually love love Utah.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: I think uh I'm glad to see them getting some love.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: They're they they've earned it.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Um, and of course, but but the reality is is, and to quote uh your girl, Taylor Swift, and you're you're a huge Taylor Swift fan, one of these things is not like the other, and that would have to be Clemson.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Is that a Taylor Swift thing?
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, one of these things is not like the other.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: You could he's pretending he doesn't know that.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: He 100% knows that.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: Don't listen to him.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Clemson's defense is going to be lights out.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Their defensive line is loaded with all Americans, could be best off, could be best of all time.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: It's and that wasn't their problem last year either.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: No, it sure wasn't.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: It's what's it's what they're gonna do on offense.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: I I like Shipley.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Um, they're they're shuffling some things up front.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: They lost their offensive coordinator, new head coach of UVA.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Um, DJ Ooh showed promises his freshman year when Trevor Lawrence was still there, but yesterday, last year was a major problem.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: They have legitimate problems on offense, and their offensive coordinator is gone.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: That's what I was gonna say.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, all right.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: OC and DC both gone.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: I yeah, and and while Clemson might be might very well be very good, they might very well might win 10 or 11 games.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: With you look at that company, Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Utah, Clemson is unquestionably the team that should not probably be in the top four.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: I would they're gonna have to, they're gonna have to prove that they belong again.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: And they they do get a favorable schedule, you know, being in the in the ACC.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: And like I said, they don't, I think they're the week four.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: I think they play wake as the first test on the schedule.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: So they'll have time to figure some things out, which uh bodes well for them.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: It does.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, that was easy.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: So let's let's go to the next one.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: Six through ten.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: We've got number six, Notre Dame, seven, Oklahoma, eight, Michigan, nine AM, ten, Baylor.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Uh, so this one was kind of trickier for me.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of fun ones in this one.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of a lot of fun ones in this one.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: I'm super bullish on Michigan.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: I think I really like what they do.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: I know they Michigan lost a ton, but I think between Blake Coram, those quarter, those two quarterbacks they have.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: Um, I think I think Michigan is going to be really good this year.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: I think they're probably the only, they're probably Ohio State's far and away stiffest challenge, although that game is in Columbus this year.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: I like Michigan at eight.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: I think that feels really good to me.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Uh what about you?
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: Well, looking at this, I think there's there's a lot of question marks for me.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, Notre Dame at six, we talked about this before.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Um, you could make sense of Notre Dame at six.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Are they the sixth best team in the country or are they ranked appropriately based on their schedule?
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: They get a tough test at Ohio State, and then they end the season at USC.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: And I think there's like one or two potential trap games in there, you know, BYU, whatnot, but um their schedule completely lines up for them to fall in the top 10.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: Do I think they're a top 10 team at six?
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Probably not six.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't, I wouldn't put them that high.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: Um, Oklahoma, you know, they're they're rebuilding, so to speak.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, new coach, they've got a lot of talent that that just hit the transfer portal.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: So I think if I had to pick one team that maybe doesn't quite belong, I might I I love Baylor, you know.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: I talk about Baylor.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: We love we love Aranda.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: Um, but I don't know that I'd start them the season at 10.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Uh I would I would put them somewhere in the 12 to 15.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Oh man, you spade and switch me.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: I thought you were, I thought, I thought you were gonna hammer uh Notre Dame or Oklahoma.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: So I think Notre Dame and Oklahoma have way more questions.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Notre Dame's brand new coach, Marcus Freeman, who's actually younger than me, which is very upsetting to me personally, but good for him.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Um Notre Dame doesn't have Kyle Hamilton, they don't have they don't have incredible star power, frankly, on that roster.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: So I I could make a case for them.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Uh Oklahoma, um, while I do like Venables and I do like uh Dylan Gabriel, which is a kid we're gonna talk about here in a little in a minute, and and Jeff Levy, the off-the-quarter, that came with him.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: I think they've got a really good thing going there.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: And they are Oklahoma.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, Oklahoma always.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: They're gonna be fine.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they're in the big 12.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: They're gonna be just fine.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: The team that I'm actually won, the team that I don't think should be there, is Texas AM.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: Why are we hailing Texas AM?
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: I understand the recruiting classes too soon.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Too soon.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: The recruiting classes are outstanding.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: I know they had a great COVID year.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: I think they would finish the season 10 and I think they finished the regular season nine and one.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Um, but they, you know, I don't Max Johnson, the transfer quarterback over from LSU, he's not that good.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: Um, a lot of these uh five-star, seven star super transfer super players that they got in these recruiting classes, still super young.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: Still super young, unproven.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Will they will they get there in two years?
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Probably.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: Is it this year?
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Um, I you know, this uh I expect Texas AM to be good.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were eight and four.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: It's kind of something that Texas AM just does.
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: It's what they do.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: And drop, you know, drop one to uh an Ole Miss or a Mississippi State, and they could still finish 12, 13th, 14th and be an amazing team, uh, and that's just what your schedule, you are what your schedule gives you sometimes in college football.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: What's the commentary if he finishes nine and three coming out of Aggie Land?
- 12:47SPEAKER_00: Do they are they are they furious?
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: It's panic.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: No, it's panic.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: I think it's panic.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: I think they're already tasting sort of that the sweet nectar of um you know the hype.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: And they're you know, the recruiting classes have been there.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: They uh paid a cajillion dollars to get Jimbo Fisher in in there in the first place, right?
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: And he's gotta produce right away.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: And when I say produce, I mean national championship produce.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: I don't mean uh rebuilding ACC team, I mean we want Nick Saban's head kind of produce, especially with all the offseason drama between those two.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: No, that that that October game is gonna be the best.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: That is going to be the best week with when I think Texas ANAM is going to Tuscaloosa this year.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty sure.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: That's that's gonna be one of the most anticipated best game situations.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: I can't wait for that.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, I I although I mean I don't think I don't think expectations are that high.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: I think 10 wins, I think they finish 10 and 2, I think every given their schedule, given they're probably gonna lose to Alabama and they're probably gonna drop one more.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Like if I'm Tex if I'm 10 and 2, I think reasonable AM fans are happy.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: But I think you might be right.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Nine nine and three are worse.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna hear some we're gonna hear some chirping.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: We're gonna hear some church.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: Well, the other thing too is just by the nature of the way things set up, they don't have to get to Atlanta to to squeak their way into the playoff.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: We've seen that um multiple times.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so the door is still open for them to drop one or two and be the best team available for that four spot.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: No, absolutely.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: And if they lose to Alabama in Tuscaloosa, which is nothing, it's nothing wrong with that.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: A lot of teams are gonna go to Alabama and lose.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Um, so I there everything is I totally agree with you.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: Everything is in all likelihood very much still on the table if they were to finish 11-1 with that being their only loss.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: So you know, we shouldn't sign up.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: They AM beat them last year.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: They could have it could happen again.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: I just think I like in the in the in the revenge spot, I'm taking saving it home.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: I feel good about that.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna call I'm gonna call that right now.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: I feel good about that one.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: That's a yeah, that's an easy one.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: Let's all right, let's keep it rolling.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: Uh 11 through 15.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: We got NC State 11, USC 12, 13, Okey State, 14, Oregon, 15, Wisconsin.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, you want to go first?
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: What do you got?
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: When I when I'm when I'm breaking this down, I think NC State's a little high.
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: I think USC is a little high.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: I think Oklahoma State's a little high.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: So it's tough because I think there's a there's a lot in this range that um this is the the beauty of this range because a lot of these teams are gonna fall off of the map completely.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Uh so I am going to go with NC State.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: 11 for NC State is ridiculous to me.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Go why say that?
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Well, I just think I think they're gonna have a good, I think the third best team in the ACC, maybe second, second or third best team in the ACC is going to be appropriately ranked somewhere in the teens.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, and so looking at their schedule, they do have a you know, they don't have a juggernaut of a schedule or anything.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Um, but I do think that uh they drop one or two that they shouldn't, and 11 is just too high for me.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Do you like him at 15?
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, 15 would be an easy one.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: 15 would be okay.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna go the exact opposite.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: I actually NC State, that's the one I actually think totally belong.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: There, I like Devon Devin O'Leary a lot.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: They are very much very likely gonna win their division, and maybe the maybe the ACC.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: They're bringing a ton back on defense, they have a really great coaching staff um at NC State.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: I actually I NC State was the one I'm bullish on.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: I think there's I love O'Leary, and don't get me wrong, we talked about them a lot last year.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: We did.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, but we're talking the difference for them anyway, one game.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: I guess.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: I mean, what you're looking at.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Pretty much if they drop one game, yep, that they shouldn't.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna I'm gonna go, I'm gonna fly directly in the face of my bold predictions for last show, and I'm gonna go with the team that probably should not be there, USC.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: Let me start with.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: I recognize that they just got they got the greatest, they just got the one of the best young guns in college football, Lincoln Riley.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Uh Caleb Williams, the transfer from uh Oklahoma, we'll talk about quarterback.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: Uh Jordan Addison, the Bolitnikov winner, the best receiver in college football, is now on that team.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: Um, they have star power, they've got firepower.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: They are USC, they are a national brand.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: Um, when they are good, college football is more interesting.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: I get all that.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: They were four and eight last year.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: They were four and eight.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: Four and eight.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: They found eight in the pac-12.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: In the pac 12.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Not exactly Murderer's Road, not exactly a horns nest of a conference as a whole relative to the other uh Power Five conferences.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: That is a huge improvement.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: I I actually I think it'll be there, but that is suspect.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: That is 12th in the country after a four and eight campaign, and half the roster's brand new.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I agree, I agree with you in that they they are based, their the ranking is based on probably what they should be if they had more time to get things rolling.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: The situation is that, like you said, I mean, they're they've got a couple months, I mean, really just fall camp for the most part to get all these guys on the same page.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: And there's gonna be some growing pains.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: The the the main thing that you're looking at here is how quickly can can they gel as a roster and what happens when they hit some kind of adversity.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Because they're gonna roll through most of their schedule based on talent alone.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: But you know, there are those nights where you you know you head into I don't know what's their what's their biggest away game, you know.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: I mean I I mean I think it's either at Oregon or at Utah.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: I mean, those those the only I think I think it's one of those two.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: I um they gotta put it together.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: They have to do it first.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: I I'll tell you this.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: I love 12 for USC in 2023.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: A year from right now, preseason poll, one year after the Lincoln Riley campaign has begun.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: I think a 12 is probably where USC should be at this at this day and this day and age, this time.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: But right now in 2022, that one is suspect.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: That yeah, I mean some flags.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: It's pretty suspect based on the fact that they've done nothing.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: Yes, and they're coming off of a terrible season.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: When you look at their roster, just let me when you look at their roster, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Rice at a terrible Stanford team, Fresno State, Oregon State, Arizona State, Washington State, Utah, at Utah.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: That's that's the big one.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's the big one.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: There's there's two there's two possibly three toss-ups at Utah, late, late end of the season, they finish with at UCLA versus Notre Dame.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: So three games.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, based with that, their schedule, I mean, that's pretty appropriate ranking.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: It's just last year that's like, how do you put them that high?
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: And the pack 12 is a pack, whatever it is, that is super top heavy.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: So, like, I mean, really, the the the the the the the the fall off after USC, Utah, Oregon, Upper Crust is dramatic.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, the Arizona schools are in trouble.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: Uh, I don't know what's going on at Stanford, they just don't seem to be good at football anymore.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: I thought for sure Chip Kelly would be like, I don't really understand why either.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: I thought by for sure Chip Kelly would have you uh UCLA humming.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: I was whiffed on that.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: I think Florida might have dodged a bullet not hiring him.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm not sure how much I'm not sure how much longer he's gonna last in UCLA with because I thought more was a good hire, right?
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and yeah, I thought I also I mean Herm Edwards I thought would would do more.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: I thought he was a good hire, he's crashing and burning.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it just doesn't seem like the pack has a lot.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: So no, I we are we are assuming that USC is gonna be pretty good, but if they only have to be pretty good to get to 10 or 10 and 2.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm saying, yeah.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: And I think Vegas even has um their over-under is like a 10 10 win.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: I mean so I mean Vegas.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't claim to be smarter than Vegas, so we'll see.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: No, we'll see.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: I'll keep it rolling.
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: Uh what I was doing, 16 through 20, 16, Arkansas, 17, Cincy, 18, Penn State, 19, Miami, 20, Sparty, Michigan State.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: Uh, who do you love?
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Who do I love?
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: I I don't love the these these are the hard areas, and I'm kind of a fence rider when it comes to this stuff.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: I don't love any of them at this ranking.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Penn State would be who I would hang my hat on at 18.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: I don't think they're gonna lose a ton of games.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: They have a tough schedule, and even losing like two or three, they could still finish at 18 and and be just fine for you know, versus this ranking.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: They lost a lot of close games.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: The games they lost, all of them were close, and I I like Sean Clifford.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: He's a good quarterback.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: Losing uh losing a playmaker like Jahan Dotson hurts, but in general, that is an upgraded talent roster, and James Franklin is a solid coach, and he's gonna have he's gonna play good defenses, they're probably gonna lose the games they should, which is probably Michigan, Michigan and Ohio State.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Um, they maybe they take one from maybe they take Michigan State down.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: Um, I mean, yeah, I think you're I think you're probably looking at a solid eight and four team, maybe nine and three.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: So I think if I've if I'm in that gonna hang my hat, I think I'd probably agree.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I like that, I like that assessment.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: I I I also wouldn't mind Sincey.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: I know obviously they lost a ton to the NFL.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: Ritter's gone, uh, those cornerbacks on those edge rushers are gone, but Luke Fickels has has proven to be a pretty darn good coach, maybe the best in G5.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and they've invested in him and he has he stuck with Cincy because a lot of people came calling, a lot of programs came calling last year, and that bodes really well for them this year.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Because he's clearly comfortable where he is.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: He's got he's got program buy-in, he's got the team that he wants.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: They're gonna be just just fine.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: They might even challenge, they might, they might punch above their their weight class again this year.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: They might, they might, they got they they have to reload the.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: They have to reload in certain spots, but I think as well.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: I always thought he was going to be the guy to take over Ohio State shot because he's he was Ohio State assistant, but obviously Ryan Day is not going anywhere anytime soon.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: So if that is true, yeah, Fickle might be at Cincinnati for a long time for a long run.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: But if you're a Cincinnati Bearcat fan, you're like, heck yeah, I'd love to have a coach like Luke Fickle.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: So that's I mean, that's a that's a great coach to have a program like Cincy.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: So I think I think I could I could you could argue with them.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: The team I don't like here are the team that I think is kind of suspect is uh I'm gonna say Arkansas.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Um and this is weird, this is a weird assessment because Arkansas is good, KJ Jefferson is good, Sean Pittman is a good is one of the best coaches, Sam Pittman, excuse me, one of the best coaches that no one's really talking about yet, but they should, the head coach of Arkansas.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Everyone's talking about Sam Pittman, man.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: He was like the media darling all year last year.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: What are you talking about?
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, maybe that's true.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: He um their schedule is brutal.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: They're I they they're the toughest schedule in the country.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: Tough, tough, tough schedule.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: So maybe they actually are somewhere between the 16th and 20th best team, but I'm not sure they're gonna finish there.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: And this is why this is why I put them there because I I I could easily see them being seven and five, despite being a pretty darn good team.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: I could see I SEC West is gonna be Murders Row again this season.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: I don't think there's gonna be and there's not gonna be any breaks um in that.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: And I don't know that Arkansas um can afford many slip-ups like anybody.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: So that's yeah, for the for the listeners, let's let's run through it real quick.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: We've got versus Cincy, you uh South Carolina, Missouri State, so you got a breather, you got at AM, you got uh Bama, at Mississippi State, then they go out to Lavelle Edwards Stadium and play at BYU.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Like, why do that?
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: Who set this schedule up?
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: What were they?
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: They know that game is gonna be like a midnight game, like one of those, just it's it's just a trap, it's a it's a trap game if there ever was one.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Then they've got at Auburn, then they've got Liberty.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Like, if you're gonna schedule, try to schedule an easy game, yeah.
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: Liberty schedule Liberty.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: The Liberty Liberty's sneaky good.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: They might they might that's what I'm saying, man.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they might come and bite you.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: I I wonder who made that schedule.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: That that AD, oh god, yeah, he probably not the school anymore, whoever it was.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: But that's so then you finish with LSU, old miss, and at Missouri.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: They were there's one two gimme games on that roster on that schedule.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: I mean, that schedule is like digging nine toss-ups, exactly.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: So that's even their out-of-conference games are yeah.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: Respect, you know.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: I will say respect to Arkansas for step up and stepping the plate and playing some awesome out of conference games.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: We as the fans love when teams do that.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Please do it more often.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: But man, if you're trying to get a bunch of wins, that's not the way to do it.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: That's not no, not in the SEC West.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: You need you need to schedule some breaks, man.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, go out and get Lamar.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: Don't go get BYU and don't get Liberty.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: Get some get some get get at BYU.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: At BYU.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: What's the Citadel doing?
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: Bring them to town.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: They like that, they'll play football.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: Hey, VMI, come here.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: Come on, VMI.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: Come on down.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, good stuff.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: So I think we're that's that's kind of what so that's why I would say Arky is shaky.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Do you have any any of the other teams?
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Um, I think we talked about it.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: We're gonna talk about Miami and Michigan State a good bit.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I would agree with you that Michigan State is one of those teams at 20.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: I could argue based on last year, they're not getting enough respect.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: But um, every year, you know, they're they're gonna be looked at as kind of that little brother until they they punch through the ceiling.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: So uh as much as I would love to say Michigan State deserves to be ranked higher, they're probably pretty appropriately ranked at 20.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: I think Peyton Thorne's uh as is about as good of the 20th best team in the country.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: Kenneth Walker, the third, is not coming back, they do not have the the all-American running back they used to do.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: So they're they're not gonna be the same team.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Um, but people love Mel Tucker and they think he's gonna do a great job.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: I'm not Mel Tucker.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: I'm not so hot on him as everybody knows from my bold precinct predictions.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: I think he's gonna get himself a little bit of trouble this year, but we'll see.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, but you your reason your bold prediction was just stupid.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: It was bold, is what it was, but too bold, too bold, my friend.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: No way.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: All right, let's uh let's wrap this up.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: 21 to 25.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: We got 21 Wake Forest, 22 Houston, 23 Kentucky, 24, Mike's, Tennessee, Volunteers, 25, Pitt.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: Um, I'll start with uh who I love there.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: This is actually easy for me.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: Houston.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: Houston is gonna go 12 and oh.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: They are going to they're not gonna lose a regular season game this year at UT UTSA, uh at Texas Tech, who's who's not good, Kansas, who might be the worst power five power five college football team in the country this year, either them or Duke, which is crazy.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: They're playing each other this year.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Uh Rice, Tulane, Memphis, at Memphis, at Navy, a little tricky.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Uh U uh USF at home, at SMU, uh versus Temple, who's a train wreck at the moment, at East Carolina, Tulsa.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: Houston is better than all of those teams, objectively.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: I understand any given Saturday things happened, but I I'm I'm expecting Houston to go 11-1, possibly 12-0 um this season.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: So for them at uh wherever we decided they were, for them to be at um, where was it?
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: At 22, they could even be higher.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: That's yeah, that's easy for me.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for me, I'm gonna say Pittsburgh at 25, not getting enough love.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: Um, they had a fantastic year last year.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Granted, they did lose a lot, uh, but that's not what these preseason rankings are about, clearly, based on what we're seeing.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I would I would easily put them in that kind of 17 to 20 range.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: Um, they've got a fantastic defense, as always.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Marduzie just knows how to coach.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: They're always really tough in the trenches, and they won the division last year.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, I just think they're not getting quite enough love, just enough respect.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: They probably should be in that kind of 17, 18, 19 range.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 28:44SPEAKER_01: Um we'll see how they finish up, but uh I think they've got a solid shot again to compete for the ACC.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think so too.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: I and I I I um I think Oh, and they brought in Slovis.
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Keenan Slovis, exactly.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: He's he's he's just a quarterback.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: Um Pitt's always tough, they are always well coached, and they could absolutely compete for their for their division again, maybe the conference again.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: You know, a lot of that kind of hinges on um if we are appropriately bullish on Miami and Clemson.
- 29:11SPEAKER_00: But like I think I mean Miami, Clemson, Pitt, NC State, that's that's kind of your that's kind of your cream of the ACC.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: And you know, and there's a world where Pitt is beating those teams.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: So there's there's a world where Pitt is, you know, the class of the ACC again, even given uh the fact that Kenny Pickett's not there anymore, Jordan Aston's not there anymore.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: Um I I it's it's hard to really go against Patton Arduzzi at this point.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: He's gonna play good defense.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: Um and the ACC doesn't have many good defenses.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: So if you're one of those teams that actually does in that conference this year, um it's winning a lot of football games.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: So if you're a Clemson and you are still struggling, you know, which I don't think that Clemson and Pitt are they're not scheduled this and unless they they hit the uh conference championship.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: But just you just using them as an example.
- 29:56SPEAKER_01: If you're a team like Clemson has shown to be this last year and you're still struggling to find it on offense, Pitts defense is gonna keep them in the game.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Totally.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Um go uh what's suspect here for me?
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: I hate to do this because I was last year, I love them.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say Wake.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: There is it is Wake got a lot of breaks, including a really down year for the ACC.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: I thought you were on the Wake bandwagon where you are.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm uh when I remind me of the about the Wake Banner when they start 6-0 again.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: I'm totally wrong here.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: They can they they can't play defense.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: They're they I mean Wake's offense, Sam Hartman and those receivers, and they've got they've got their solid four deep play outside on the out on the wall outside.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: They can't run the ball.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: They can't run the ball and they can't stop anyone.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: And I'm expecting that to happen this year.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: So all those games where they got all those breaks and they had that magical season last year, and kudos to Wake for having a hell of a season last year, it's really great.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: I just I think I think Wake's like a seven-win team this year.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: I think they're gonna be really fun to watch.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: I think they will be able to score oodles of points and put up big yards and bombs galore.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: But if you can't run the ball, if you can't get give your defense a break, um, and and your defense, even when they had a break, can't stop anybody, you're just not gonna win many football games.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: And I just so for Wake to be the top 25, uh, I love Sam Hartman.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: I love the receivers, but that's about it.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: I don't see it.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I think they belong.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: I think they belong right where they're ranked.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, look at their schedule.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: It's VMI, it's at Vanderbilt, terrible.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: It's Liberty, and then Clemson.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: So, okay.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, one loss at Florida State versus Army versus BC, Louisville, NC State, North Carolina, Syracuse, Duke.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: They're easily gonna finish at a top 25.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: They're gonna lose maybe three, four, still finishing.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Ah, we'll see.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: But I I think they're very appropriately ranked.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: Um, I just you know, if if they they know they're they're the kind of team where if they get like a if they get in a bad weather game, did you say at I don't know if they've played any games up north late in the year or anything in the cold weather, but like if they're if they can't Syracuse is a dome.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: Syracuse is the dome, obviously, right?
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: Carrier dome, or whatever they're calling it now, it's got a new like Verizon wireless dome or whatever.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: Anyway, if they are they're the kind of team where I do they are not built to play those gritty football games.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: They're gonna they want to run the score up score up on you and they want to get in the track meets.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: And if there's a team that can shorten the game and run the ball and play tight D and or just bend, don't break defense.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't think Wake has the counter counterpunches to handle that, but no, that's fair enough.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's fair enough.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: I just think starting the season based on what they did last year, super appropriate.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: I also wanted to mention really quickly, um, Kentucky at 23, as much as I hate to say it, not quite enough love for the Wildcats.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: I would have liked to see them start somewhere in the kind of 16 to 19 range.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: Okay, um, they've got Florida early, uh, I think week two, but their their schedule is so easy.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, for an SEC team, they're not gonna lose many games, and they just they've got a solid enough team.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: They did well last year.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Will Levis is coming back.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: I don't love them to finish like second the East SEC East or anything.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: They're not gonna compete for the SEC, but but based on their schedule, they're gonna finish in the top 20.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: Mark my words.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: So I think I think you're right.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, what we we know we know about Will Levis, and we know that we know that Kentucky is a pr is pretty pretty good at playing defense.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: NFL scouts for whatever reason just gush over Will Levis.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: He did lead the SEC in interceptions last year.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: He's gonna have to show me because I I mean he's a warrior, he's a he competes, but I don't I you know I don't see it from him yet.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: And he lost to Wandale Robinson, who was their top wide receiver last year.
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: And I think responsible for like 40% of their offense or something.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: No, probably a lot, probably more than a lot.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: And he and the guy and the the the folks behind him are not Wandell Robinson.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: So that's that that's that's kind of that's the knock on Kentucky's.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: I think you I think you I think Will Levis has the he's the NFL prototypical, got great NFL arm strength, accuracy is a little spotty, but if you know if he makes some marginal improvements, he might be able to he might be able to cover up himself for the for replacing a wandell Robinson because losing Wandell Robinson for Kentucky is just a that is a massive hole in production.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: It's got to come from somewhere.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: So where do they get that?
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: I I don't know.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: I maybe I you know we'll find out in fall camp.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: We'll find out here in a couple weeks.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: Um, but at the moment, I don't see it.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: So I actually I I don't hate where they are, but I see I see I see why you say that.
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: Like you said, I mean we talk all preseason, but if you start racking up a bunch of wins, then you're gonna get you're gonna get you're gonna get some love for sure.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, let me throw a curveball at you because we've already talked about doing this, but give me a couple schools, give me a couple programs that you would have liked to see in the top 25 or or that you think will break into the top 25 that aren't listed here.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: Well, I obviously I'm gonna go.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: I I want to say LSU.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: I mean I wasn't expecting that.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: Of course, shocker.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Uh uh CBS has us at 31.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: Um, I know why they don't.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: I mean on the door.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: I've knocked on the door.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: I know why they don't.
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: Our schedule is also brutal.
- 35:02SPEAKER_00: Brand new offensive corner, brand new defensive corner, brand new secondary, uh, brand new offensive line.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: Um we're recruiting.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: We lost a lot of stress.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: We had we had 38 guys and our third string receiver in the bowl game.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: And it's like the you know, this this is a huge upheaval for LSU.
- 35:20SPEAKER_00: Um so I think we'll get it together and I think we'll be there, but obviously I'm partial to that.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: You'll be hearing me, you'll hear me talk about them all year.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Um, I think Mississippi is really good.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: I I actually think they're they're a solid squad.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: I could see them getting up there.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: Iowa is gonna have one of, if not the best defense in the country.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: Although, my god, their offense is so bad.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, so you know that that that's you know, they they could that defense could if their offense gets marginally better.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: This is here's the case for Iowa.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: Here's the case for Iowa.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: Their defense is gonna be there, their defense is going to be awesome for sure.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: If their offense just gets a little bit better, if it becomes serviceable, they're gonna win a lot of football games.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: So I could easily see them coming up.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: Coastal Carolina is always fun, they have a great brand of football.
- 36:07SPEAKER_00: Um uh oh, I'll know.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: I'll make case for one more, two more actually.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: UCF, I really like what Gus Melzan did his first year at night with nine and four.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: Um I think uh I think he's a great coach.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, obviously, his he had some high he had a lot of highs and lows.
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: He was very polarizing at Auburn, but in general, his scheme, the way he plays football, Auburn's a tough place to coach.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, Auburn is a very tough place to coach.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: I think he's as shown by uh Harson almost being ousted correct an off season this year.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: Uh Gus Monsanto went nine and four in his first year at UCF.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: I could see them obviously making it stepping up as well.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: And of course, um uh Louisville, Malik Cunningham.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: Malik Cunningham is a human highlight.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: It's an interesting pick.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's it's really it's it's as far as Malik Cunningham.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: It's not much faith in the rest of the roster.
- 36:51SPEAKER_00: It's not much faith.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think they won five games last year.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's not much faith in Satterfield because Satterfield's been there a while now and he has not he's not turned out to be who we thought he was in terms of coach, getting roster talent.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: But Malik Cunningham, if he's healthy, he's a he's a superstar, yeah.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: He has time, he's he could be human high highlight reel.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: So and well, the fun thing to watch about them too is they're gonna ask him to put it on his shoulders.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's gonna be everything to them.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: So correct.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: It's tuning in to watch them play, you're gonna see him either carry the ball himself or sling it around every single play.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: So those are kind of my three or four.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Obviously, you pose question to me as I'll throw it back at you.
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: Is there anybody that we didn't talk about who you see could make a big leap?
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: Um, I love Purdue.
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: Aiden O'Connell.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: I love Purdue.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love Purdue with what they did last year.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: Um, their offense is just explosive.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: They've got a lot of weapons, they're bringing back their quarterback.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: And the fun thing about that is we're gonna know right away.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: Um they've got uh Penn State, week one, which for us as fans, fantastic.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: Week one, big time matchups like that, love it.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: And neither teams really know who they are at this point, too.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: So much growth happens in those first several weeks of college football.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Um, that's where you can really sneak up on somebody.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: And um, Purdue has a lot of continuity.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: They're they've got a lot coming back, and that could be one where Purdue, you know, that's one where that that first week people flip the TV on and they're like, oh dang, Purdue is right there with Penn State.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: So um, I love Purdue.
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: Um I don't hate that.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: I think Purdue is, I think Purdue has the best quarterback in the Big Ten, not name CJ Stroud.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: I really do.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: And if you have good quarterback play in the in at in the power five and you've got good defense, and Purdue has I think Purdue will have solid defense again, then yeah, absolutely.
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: That can that could that can lead you to many wins.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: So I could I don't hate that at all.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: I like Purdue.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: I like Purdue.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: Uh a couple others I just want to briefly mention before we move on.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: BYU.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: I would BYU is always such a good program.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: They're right there on the cusp.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: I could easily see them finishing in that top kind of 15 to 25 range.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: One that I'm not super sold on, but I'm surprised isn't in there for the same reason that we see USC super high, Texas.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: Are you surprised Texas isn't listed at like 22 or somewhere in the range?
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: No, like I mean, if if if only for like the lulls and for the just for just for just just to troll Texas fans.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: I you know, like the last season went off the rails.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: It's not just Texas fans, the media, everyone wants them to be back so bad.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: I know, I know.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: Texas, Texas is I mean, as much as we we like to dunk on Texas, Texas is like USC.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: College football is more interesting when they're good.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: They and they will be back too.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: It's not like someday, someday they will be back.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: Um uh roster loaded with talent.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: Uh Sarkeesian did not do a good job uh last season.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: Just it's hard, hard to say.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh Bijan Robinson is probably the best running back in the country, who's who's who's gonna give him the ball.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: Uh Quint Ewers, uh, the transfer who we'll talk about here in a second.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: Isaiah Naore, transfer who we'll talk about here in a second.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: No, I mean like, but that's always been true.
- 40:07SPEAKER_00: Texas always has this incredible roster.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: They always have talent.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: They always do, and they still go six and seven and five or whatever.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it just feels like things are kind of changing for them.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: I hope you're right.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: I really do.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: I, you know, but you know, I I think you're right, and I we say this every year.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: We say this every year.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: Texas loaded with five stars.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: They they have they have they're one of the best, they're consistently one of the top 10, just pound for pound, talented, 85 stars guys.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: They're always top 10 roster, one of the top 10 rosters in the country.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: And they do, they recruit easily, yes, and they never play like a top 10 team.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: So maybe this is they lost to Kansas.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: Kansas is like the worst Power Five program in the history of college football, either them or Duke.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: They're they're making and they're running for it.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: Um, so they're always they're always there with their talent, and they're always there with the losses, too.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: So, no, but I do think you're doing I think you're doing a diligil, you're checking your boxes to put them there because they do have the firepower, they do have the ammo.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they could very easily look several months into the season and and see them.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: We'll we're gonna find out.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: You know, we don't get in the in the NFL, you know, in college football, you don't get a four-week preseason.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: You don't really get really, you really don't get any sense of who's what.
- 41:15SPEAKER_00: And given it's it's zero to sixty.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: We're gonna find out soon.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: So there Texas is actually hosting Alabama week two, which is tough.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: Alabama's pretty good at football.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: That game might not tell us a whole lot.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: It's so I'll tell you, I what's gonna happen for them, and what's gonna be impressive is if Sarkeesian can keep can keep folks focused, folks focused.
- 41:38SPEAKER_00: Because last season, when they went on that like ridiculous six-game losing streak, including to Kansas and just bad football team, objectively bad football team.
- 41:46SPEAKER_00: That was such a great game, though.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: If you watched it, went into overtime.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: Oh god.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: Those teams just quit.
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, those players have it felt like those Texas players quit.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: So if Sarkeesian could keep them on schedule, keep them focused, keep them all bought in the way they're supposed to be, hope they can survive an Alabama beatdown, which I'm what I'm expecting.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: And until Texas show tells me or shows me different, I'm expecting Alabama to put it on them the way we've seen Alabama do everybody for the last decade.
- 42:12SPEAKER_01: And you bring up an interesting point is that you know a lot of a lot of casual fans and a lot of people don't realize this, but that you know, there's that Alabama hangover when a team not only just puts it on you, but physically just destroys you.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, it hurts and it's tough to get up for that next game.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: It's always almost a trap game after the Alabama game, or anybody that plays that style of football.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, when you know that the the caliber of player that lines up you know across from you when you're playing Alabama is it's just it's just a different animal.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: It's body blow.
- 42:46SPEAKER_00: I mean it's it is fatigue, it's run, yeah, it sure can.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: And they we have seen we have seen I've seen Alabama demoralized by LSU Tigers in multiple years.
- 42:53SPEAKER_00: So I know I know it's just that grind.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: Just what that it is.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: Uh I think we're I think we're good on our 25 preview.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: I think it's pretty fun.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: We we obviously left we left out tons of teams, but those are kind of the ones that stuck out to us.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: We thought it would be fun to talk about, and we will talk about all of those teams and so many other teams.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: So many.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: I can't wait to talk about all the teams.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Also, I want to talk about Nebraska because I I kind of like I kind of like a bounce back here for them, but we'll save that for another day.
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: We'll save that.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: They're gonna be the highlight of our week zero show when they start when they open the season uh versus North Week.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: That's like three weeks away.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: Dublin, the opening zero in Dublin, England.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: So get ready for we'll Mike and I will do a we'll do a preview of it.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a Dublin for yeah.
- 43:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe we'll just maybe we'll drink Guinness that for that show.
- 43:34SPEAKER_00: Drink some of drink some Irish beer.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, why not?
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: Some car bombs or something.
- 43:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: That kind of party, sure.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: Um that's top 25.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, let's do this.
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: Let's move to the second segment.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about some transfers.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: So, like I said earlier, uh, we are seeing more movement in college football than we ever have before, um, including not just and not just depth guys, third string guys, guys going down to one double A to get playing time, guys retiring.
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: We're talking about star power moving in a way that I we at college football has never seen.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna talk about some of the names and just kind of what we're kind of what our thoughts on them in their new home.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna talk about some mostly quarterbacks, quarterbacks is what you know what was what other kind of the key position football, and as well as some non-quarterback position guys.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: Uh, I've got a little list here in front of me to start with uh Caleb Williams, is probably the one most talked about, Heisman candidate at Oklahoma.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: Uh with Lincoln, Lincoln Riley took the USC job.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: He went with him.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: He is now gonna be the uh head coach, I mean the quarterback at USC.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: Um, I mean, I love the fit.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: I love it, I love him in the pack.
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: I think they're gonna, I think they're gonna light it up.
- 44:37SPEAKER_00: They're gonna light it up.
- 44:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's it's a super slam dunk.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: There's no bones about it.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: This he took his guy with him, who was a proven guy.
- 44:46SPEAKER_01: He's a he's a monster quarterback.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, he was like he was the number one quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class.
- 44:54SPEAKER_01: He's shown he can do it, and they know each other.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: It's it there's there's no acclamation at all that that's needed.
- 44:59SPEAKER_01: It's plug and play.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 45:01SPEAKER_00: And they now have Jordan Addison, the best receiver.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: Another transfer from Pitt, uh, who won the Blitnikoff winner.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: Those who don't know the Blitnikoff Awards goes the best receiver of the year.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: Blitnikov Award winners go to the NFL or stay on their team.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: They never leave.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: And he left Pitt to go to SoCal to go be with Caleb Williams and Lincoln Riley.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: Um, so Caleb Williams has the best receiver in the country to throw the ball to.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be, if nothing else, it'll be great television.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: They'll score points.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, the only question is like, how long will it take them to fire on all cylinders?
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: And it may not take all cylinders.
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, they might they might struggle their way to 35 or 42 in you know the first few weeks.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: Totally.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: I'm fully expecting Jordan Addison and Caleb Williams to get theirs.
- 45:45SPEAKER_00: I and even while the defense maybe figured out, and they're trying to figure out who the other playmakers are around them, and even as the offensive line.
- 45:52SPEAKER_01: Complimentary, as they play better teams, yeah, they're gonna need that.
- 45:55SPEAKER_00: Jordan Addison and Caleb Williams are gonna get theirs.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: I think those are both gonna be two um airtight, awesome transfers.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, number two, this one is super interesting to me.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Also, a former Oklahoma quarterback, Spencer Rattler, going to South Carolina.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: This was Spencer Rattler a year ago, was like top three Heisman candidate going this season, got benched, lost his job in dramatic fashion.
- 46:19SPEAKER_00: In dramatic fashion.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: Got booed.
- 46:21SPEAKER_00: Got booed by Boomer Sooner, and it was not the starting quarterback anymore.
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: Uh, ended up when the when all of the uh end of this season, all the upheaval and the roster upheaval is now um the starting quarterback at South Carolina Gamecox, uh SEC East.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: Mike, I know you have opinions about this.
- 46:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's this one is super interesting to me because he is the basically the sole reason that South Carolina is getting any love uh this offseason.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, people people are starting to kind of get some buzz for for Shane Beamer and South Carolina to kind of break into the top 25.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Can they be, you know, the second, third best team in the East?
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: What can we expect from them?
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: And it's all because of Spencer Rattler.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: And if I did not want to see South Carolina fail, I would be rooting so hard for him.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, this kid's got an amazing story.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Um, he's he's been through it.
- 47:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, he he he's seen the highest of the highs basically, and the lowest of the lows, he got benched, he got pulled, he transferred, he I mean, he uh had to give up a spot to somebody who basically just took it and never looked back.
- 47:28SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: And he's found a new home.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: And a lot of times in college football, that is really what you need.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: You need a new home, a new change of environment, a different coach, you know, and he'll probably do pretty well.
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: Um Spencer, yeah.
- 47:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think I mean you everything you pretty much nailed it.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: Um, I won't add much.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: Um, he's got and uh he has NFL physical tools, like what Spencer Rattler can do with the ball, what he can do with his feet, like he has capability.
- 47:56SPEAKER_00: There's a reason he's he's shown it, he's flash, he has done it before.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: Um, but this, yeah, is this a this is a Phoenix, this is gonna be a Phoenix comeback story because the SEC is a heck of a lot tougher than the Big 12.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: And South Carolina's offense is not Oklahoma's offense run by Lincoln Riley, so he's gonna have to do more.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: But I think it's a huge win for Shane Beamer.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: I actually love Shane Beamer, he's like the most honest coach in college football.
- 48:20SPEAKER_00: There was a press conference last season where that after the uh they got beat by Georgia, and one of the commentators was like, You what what happened?
- 48:27SPEAKER_00: And Shane, and usually coaches are like, Well, you know, I really like my guys, you know, we gave it a good effort, really Charlie Hard.
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: And Shane is just, let's see, they've got seven offensive uh defensive linemen in the NFL, they've got first rounders everywhere.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: Like he was he's very blunt, he's very aware of South Carolina limitations, and he's not afraid to, and we all do.
- 48:45SPEAKER_00: Everyone, anyone ever watched Cole College football knows, but they never say it.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: So to hear Shane just be like, Look, I didn't have the horse.
- 48:52SPEAKER_00: They are better than us, they are better than us, is just refreshing.
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: It's just nice to hear.
- 48:57SPEAKER_00: I we all knew that, Shane, but the fact that you were willing to say that to the media, like you get a you get a path eye.
- 49:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and people love him, and I think he got a lot out of his guys last year.
- 49:08SPEAKER_01: They took advantage of a crumbling Florida team late, and they got some breaks to win some games that they probably shouldn't have.
- 49:16SPEAKER_01: I I still have question marks about his coaching ability.
- 49:19SPEAKER_01: I don't have any question marks about his leadership, about his ability to rally his guys and get them to play for him.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, they're still lacking a lot of horses, but yeah, Spencer Rattler is a huge get and he helps a lot.
- 49:32SPEAKER_01: He might he might win them a game or two just just having him on the roster.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: So let's we'll do like two or three to time because those are the two of the two main headlines, the two former Oklahoma quarterbacks, but let's lose a couple.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: Dylan Gabriel, uh UCF to Oklahoma, reuniting with his uh former off-to-coordinator Jeff Levy.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: Um, I really like that a lot.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: Ken Quinn Ewers, um, number one quarterback prospect, went to Ohio State, ran about was there for about half a season, ran about seven plays, hand the ball off twice, left now at Texas, and uh Jackson Dart, uh USC to Ole Miss under Lane Kiffen.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: Um, all of these, I like them all.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: Quinn Ewers is what you what do you got in those three?
- 50:13SPEAKER_01: Um, Ewers is is obviously a super high profile.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: He's gonna do just fine under uh Sark in the Dark uh at Texas.
- 50:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, that is the package deal.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: Um, we mentioned Isaiah Naore, uh, who is transferring from Wyoming to Texas, so he's gonna be probably immediately his number one wide receiver.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: And Sark, if anything, can dial up some some deep balls.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: Uh Isaiah Nayor just dominated things at Wyoming two seasons, and um anybody he could have gone anywhere this year.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: So he's ending up at Texas, and that's gonna be a nice one-two punch for them uh to catch and receive there.
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: So a couple of things of uh I think Quinny was one of the cool things to say about him.
- 50:57SPEAKER_00: Um, a minute ago we talked about Texas being back, and if if they're gonna be back for the load of roster, it's gonna be Quinn.
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: Quinn is the guy who's gonna do it.
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: So I think that's so the the question is is Texas back?
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: We'll find out if Quinn can do it or not, is really the question.
- 51:09SPEAKER_00: Follow-up, they just got Archie Manning.
- 51:11SPEAKER_00: So Archie, so Quinn, so next year.
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: Arch Arch Manning, the the number one quarterback prospect for the following year is gonna go into Texas.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: What's gonna happen there?
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: Is he gonna be sitting on the bench?
- 51:21SPEAKER_00: So that only is that not only is this gonna be fun to not only is the Texas quarterback spot gonna be fun to watch this year, it's gonna be fun to watch the next couple years with Manning stepping in, uh, obviously of the Manning family, Peyton, Eli, and Archie.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: So a phenomenal prospect.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Um, keep an eye on Texas.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: We'll see about that.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: That's good stuff.
- 51:39SPEAKER_00: Uh, so let's see.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: We said Jackson Dart, um, good fit there.
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: Uh let's talk real quickly about these last three quarterbacks.
- 51:47SPEAKER_00: Uh Bo Nick's Auburn to Oregon, uh, with uh Dan Lanning, the new court who's George Defense coordinator, took the job there when he joined him there.
- 51:54SPEAKER_00: Adrian Martinez, Nebraska to Kansas State, uh pairing up with Deuce Vaughn.
- 51:58SPEAKER_00: Uh feel good about that.
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: And uh JT Daniels of USC of Georgia and now at West Virginia.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: Anything you want to say about those three?
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: Daniels, Martinez, or Nick's?
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: I think the JT Daniels to West Virginia is like a really sneaky transfer that kind of flew under most people's radar, but uh it really makes West Virginia an interesting team to watch.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: They could really do some things.
- 52:23SPEAKER_01: I think they're only probably um expected to win you know seven games this year.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: But with the addition of Daniels, um, they could really make some waves.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're not going to compete with Oklahoma, but when you look at their schedule, you know, it's it's Pittsburgh, Kansas, Towson, Virginia Tech, Texas, Baylor.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, I could easily see them uh only dropping two or three games, which would be huge for Western West Virginia this year.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: Um, so that's a big one.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: And what what were the other two?
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: You mentioned that.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: Bo Nick's Bo Nick's Auburn and Oregon, Dan Lanning, and Adrian Martinez, the guy who started true freshman for like four years at Nebraska, uh shopping ship to go start, go pair with uh Kansas State.
- 53:09SPEAKER_01: Two things on that.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: I think losing Martinez is a huge boost for Scott Frost in Nebraska.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: Addition price is more less is more.
- 53:19SPEAKER_00: Addition price of it.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sometimes you you believe in a kid so much and you and you hang you, you know, you hit your wagon to him, and he just he just never produced, he just never got him over the hump.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: And I think it's probably good for for Scott Frost to get get somebody else in there, get some new life.
- 53:34SPEAKER_01: Um, Bo Nicks is a competitor.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: He might not be the most talented guy, but he's gonna do good things at Oregon, and they're gonna they're setting themselves up for a nice year.
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: Bo Nicks is is is much watch TV.
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: He'll yeah, as an Auburn, if you're an Auburn fan, there are moments your moments when you love him and there are moments when you hate him.
- 53:52SPEAKER_00: They're going to play fast, fun football at Oregon.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: There's gonna he's gonna make Oregon very fun to watch.
- 53:57SPEAKER_00: Are they gonna win 11 games, compete for the pack?
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: Maybe they might.
- 54:02SPEAKER_00: Um, is is Bo Nick's gonna do that for them?
- 54:04SPEAKER_00: He he might.
- 54:05SPEAKER_00: I it's that one's gonna be worth keeping an eye on for sure as well.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, so let's talk about enough about quarterbacks.
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: Uh, super quick, uh Eli Ricks, um, LSU's uh all-American cornerback, uh signing with the devil, going to Alabama, because what else would he go?
- 54:20SPEAKER_00: Of course he went to Alabama, super helpful.
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: Thanks for that.
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: Uh Jameer Gibbs.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: See ya.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: Jameer Gibbs, the only talented player, I think, on Georgia Tech's entire roster.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: That would be accurate.
- 54:30SPEAKER_00: Also goes to Alabama, who's never had any shortage of running backs ever.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: So Alabama, you know, the rich get richer in addition to the high school kids, they are now taking the best company.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: Oh, and they took Georgia's best wide receiver.
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 54:42SPEAKER_00: They sure did.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: Um, so that sticks out.
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: So Jameer Gibbs, uh, Eli Ricks, um, and Zach Evans, the journeyman, former five-star now at TCU.
- 54:50SPEAKER_00: Uh uh was it sorry, wasn't TCU now under Ole at Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin.
- 54:55SPEAKER_00: I expect he he was a great back at TCU last year.
- 54:58SPEAKER_00: I expect I I expect him to do awesome things at Ole Miss too.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: But we you for all of his off-the-field character stuff and all the stuff with his kind of bizarre recruiting, and I mean it's all ancient news, nobody cares anymore.
- 55:09SPEAKER_00: He's a really good back.
- 55:11SPEAKER_00: So I obviously Lane Kiffin's gonna get them given the ball in space.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: He was the best back available, and old miss got him, and that's why Bama ended up with Jameer Gibbs.
- 55:21SPEAKER_01: Everybody wanted Zach Evans.
- 55:23SPEAKER_01: Bama missed on Zach Evans.
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: Zach Evans went to Ole Miss.
- 55:27SPEAKER_01: Jameer Gibbs ends up at Bama.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 55:30SPEAKER_00: Uh one do the Homer Time transfers real quick.
- 55:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we can we can we can touch on that.
- 55:36SPEAKER_00: So now so obviously usually during the during our shows, we do we do homer time where we talk about our teams.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: Uh last year it was it was me, lsu, mike, tennessee, and this year we're gonna add UVA and tech.
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna kind of do a transfer portal version of that.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hometown teams.
- 55:49SPEAKER_01: Hometown.
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: We're gonna we're gonna cater a little bit more to the Virginia folk.
- 55:52SPEAKER_01: We've got a lot of uh Virginia listeners.
- 55:55SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna we're gonna definitely spend a lot more time focusing on uh Virginia and Virginia Tech.
- 56:01SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, absolutely.
- 56:02SPEAKER_00: So for LSU, I mean we we we have brand new coach, brand new everything.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: We have a ton of transfers.
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: And the the the one or two that are probably the most important impacts are probably the two guards we got from um uh Florida Atlantic, our transfer, uh Tramon Schwartz or Miles Frazier.
- 56:19SPEAKER_00: Those guys are plug-and-play guards, they're gonna play for us.
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: The most interesting one is easily uh Jaden Daniels, the former Arizona State quarterback who was a starter there for two and a half years or so, all of a sudden up and left, uh, and is gonna is competing for the job at LSU.
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: I'm not even sure he's gonna win the job at LSU, um, but he transfers, so he's obviously the name to keep a track on to keep track on.
- 56:41SPEAKER_00: He is he's the one guy in LSU's quarterback room that has uh real mobility strength that he can really make things happen with his legs.
- 56:47SPEAKER_00: And Brian Kelly has a record at Notre Dame of having doing well with quarterbacks who could move.
- 56:52SPEAKER_00: So that's the interesting one.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: The one that will actually matter are gonna be those offensive linemen, but the interesting one is Jaden Daniels.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: What about the Vols?
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: Um, so I have to go with two because we just got one this week.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: So yeah, we we had a running back go down, Lenneth Whitehead, and we added Lynn J.
- 57:12SPEAKER_01: Dixon from Clemson, who sat behind um Travis ATN for uh for for I guess a year, a year and a half.
- 57:21SPEAKER_01: Um, so he is an immediate power five back.
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: He put up, I think like 800 yards or something with them one year.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: He's a solid player.
- 57:30SPEAKER_01: Um, he went to West Virginia, stepped foot on campus, decided he didn't like it, and uh came to the Vols.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: So really interested to see him add some depth to the backfield.
- 57:41SPEAKER_01: He's probably immediately the the number two guy.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then we have Brew McCoy, who is a uh Southern Cal wide receiver, who is a huge gotta be on the all-name team.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: Brew McCoy.
- 57:55SPEAKER_01: Brew McCoy.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: Keep that in mind for uh your baby to be named later.
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: It's true, it's true.
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: My my my future son might be name named Brew.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: We'll say Brew Wade.
- 58:06SPEAKER_00: Brew Wade.
- 58:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, I don't hate it.
- 58:07SPEAKER_01: I don't hate it.
- 58:08SPEAKER_01: So Brew McCoy, big body.
- 58:10SPEAKER_01: Um, he was a four-star at high school.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Um, he's got a ton of potential, and we need somebody to uh play opposite of Cedric Tillman.
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: So he is an obvious uh immediate plug-in to just take some pressure off him, stretch the field, be a big body, go up and get some balls, be a I mean, he's gonna be a possession wide out.
- 58:32SPEAKER_01: So he's gonna be an impact guy as long as he can stay in shape and and learn things pretty quickly.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: So I love both of those additions.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: I I like them a lot too, especially for what Josh Heipel's doing with that offense.
- 58:42SPEAKER_00: I think both those guys are gonna, but especially the Brumikoy, he's he has got to be thinking to himself, this is a great situation to be in.
- 58:49SPEAKER_00: This is a spot where I can catch a lot of balls because they're gonna play faster and they're gonna they're the off, they're gonna throw the ball vertically uh again really well.
- 58:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, Hayden Hooker is coming quickly becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC, not named Bryce Young.
- 59:03SPEAKER_00: So I mean Hooker.
- 59:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Hyden Hooker, thank you.
- 59:06SPEAKER_00: Uh you got to feel really good about that.
- 59:07SPEAKER_00: Um, so I'm gonna quickly talk about UVA.
- 59:10SPEAKER_00: Um, it's gotta be Cody Brown, the uh former uh Miami running back.
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: Um he was a four-star kid out of Georgia, did his freshman year at Miami, had a handful of had a had a pretty decent run there, um, got clogged on the depth chart.
- 59:25SPEAKER_00: Um is now he's uh Ronnie Walker, the the who the projected starting running back for um UVA is gonna miss all of fall camp.
- 59:32SPEAKER_00: So I gotta think Cody Brown, the running back, is gonna be the one to uh keep an eye on for in terms of transfers for uh UVA.
- 59:40SPEAKER_00: Unfortunately, UVA's offensive line is in such bad shape.
- 59:43SPEAKER_00: He might be he might not find any holes, but but if it's a lot of screen passes, handoff to a lot of draws.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: Tony Elliott is going to get super creative to facilitate this bad offensive line, especially early in the year when they're still trying to figure some things out.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: So I'm expecting a lot of bubble screens and a lot of short passes and just moving the ball quickly.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: And Cody Brown has the skill set to complement that well.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_00: So I think for UVA, the transfer to be excited about, to keep your eye on, to the guide to could be the really be a difference maker on offense where you already are awesome at quarterback and have a fleet of receivers that are you are proven this this is a this is a spot, this is could be a really a real nice gift in your backfield to have something like Cody Brown.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: So I'm I'm excited for him.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_00: What about um what about them hope?
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hopefully Cody Brown hears a lot of uh New Year's Eve music this this this season.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: Just he is of course referring to the uh UVA uh uh fight song, which sounds a lot like ye old.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_00: I don't even know what the New Year's Eve song is called.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_00: You know, it doesn't sound a lot like it, it is it anyway.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: What about the hokies, Mike?
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Virginia Tech is looking for answers at quarterback.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_01: They had some guys leave, um, some uncertainty, some instability.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_01: They added two guys, one is more for depth, Jason Brown, the other Grant Wells.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_01: Um, Brown actually was a local kid, he's he's he hails from Fredericksburg.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, the one to keep your eye on is Grant Wells.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_01: He came from Marshall, he's got experience, he's a big kid, he's a he's a pro-style quarterback.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_01: Um, the question mark with him is gonna be accuracy.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_01: He he clearly has a has a good arm, strong arm.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, but I think he threw about as many interceptions as he did touchdowns.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: So it's not good.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_01: That's yeah, but he should both should add some depth and should should be able to compete.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_01: Um, but I think Grant Wells, you know, he he's he's he's trying to compete for a starting spot, whereas Jason Brown is another body in the room.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: No, Grant Wells is going to be the face of this Brent Prize first year coach, first year Brent Prize coach.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_00: Um the uh offense, they're gonna try and run the ball, but they're gonna do, but they're gonna they're but the quarterbacks, you know, in college football, these teams go as far as the quarterbacks can take them.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_00: And so Grant Wells in the early days when they're retooling this roster, and you know, and for Virginia Tech this year, if they're gonna they're gonna fight and UVA, really.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_00: Both these teams very very well might be just be fighting to get to a bowl.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_00: And they're gonna Grant Wells is gonna have to shoulder a lot of that load.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: So I'm hoping.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, and Virginia Tech's still gonna be looking for an identity on offense.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_01: So some of that's gonna fall to them in that quarterback room.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: He's absolutely gonna be the key.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_00: He's he, I mean, either in a good way or bad way.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_00: I think it's really I think it's I think Grant Wells is probably the one to keep an eye on for sure.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_00: Most important impact player.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_00: Um, I think that's all, I think that's all.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_00: I think I think I'm all set on transfers.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_00: You got anything else?
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_01: No, I think we covered it all.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_01: Probably more exhaustive than people want to hear.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_01: No way.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_00: Good stuff.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: Uh couple uh quick round of announcements.
