- 1:14Speaker 8: To your stations, we have a movie meltdown.
- 1:16Speaker 9: My name is Doug.
- 1:18Speaker 10: I have just met you, and I love you.
- 1:30Speaker 11: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:31Speaker 9: I'm Brian.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Anthony Knoll here.
- 1:33Speaker 11: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:36Speaker 11: the outskirts of Doug's place.
- 1:38Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:39Speaker 11: We'll get back to that later.
- 1:40Speaker 9: In the meantime, we.
- 1:41Speaker 11: Have a new guest. Please introduce yourself.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Hello, I am Alex Simonson.
- 1:47Speaker 11: And you've been roped into this via Anthony.
- 1:49Speaker 8: Indeed.
- 1:50Speaker 11: So you can blame him when this all spirals out
- 1:53Speaker 11: of control. Perfect.
- 1:54Speaker 1: It'll blow up.
- 1:55Speaker 11: We'll be huge.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Of course.
- 1:58Speaker 11: So usually we kick things off with some sort of
- 2:00Speaker 11: geek activities and or what we've been watching. So have
- 2:03Speaker 11: either of you watched anything late?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Oh, let's see. I recently actually saw Ant-Man and pretty
- 2:10Speaker 1: much loved it. I can say that with full confidence.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Paul Rudd, absolutely hilarious. Rockin' hot bod. As per his usual.
- 2:22Speaker 1: And pretty much everything about Ant-Man was just a fun
- 2:26Speaker 1: movie overall. Good summer flick. Go into the theater, veg out,
- 2:31Speaker 1: eat some popcorn, and watch flashy action. It was a
- 2:33Speaker 1: good Marvel movie and they incorporated... Some hints at the
- 2:36Speaker 1: other storylines really well, and I would suggest anyone out
- 2:39Speaker 1: there the least bit interested in seeing Paul Rudd shrink
- 2:43Speaker 1: down and get stepped on by giant people, go check
- 2:46Speaker 1: it out.
- 2:48Speaker 11: Well, I haven't really had a chance to talk about
- 2:50Speaker 11: it on the show, because I saw it a week
- 2:52Speaker 11: or so ago. I have issues with it.
- 2:56Speaker 1: You have issues with it? Let's hear them.
- 2:58Speaker 11: Have you seen it yet? I have not seen it, no. Okay,
- 3:00Speaker 11: would you like me to shut up about my issues
- 3:02Speaker 11: until you see it?
- 3:04Speaker 7: No spoilers, but I want to hear, I mean, as
- 3:07Speaker 7: far as the superhero movie goes, there's lots of them
- 3:09Speaker 7: this year.
- 3:10Speaker 11: I will pose my issues with it, and when you
- 3:12Speaker 11: watch it, I guess, see if you agree.
- 3:15Speaker 8: No spoilers, though.
- 3:16Speaker 11: No spoilers. My main thing is, I feel like by
- 3:18Speaker 11: the end, I don't really know anything about that guy.
- 3:23Speaker 11: I feel like they do, and it's harder, I think,
- 3:27Speaker 11: coming off of some of these other Marvel movies. When
- 3:30Speaker 11: you're coming off the Avenger movies, and you're coming off
- 3:32Speaker 11: of Winter Soldier, like, They're really solid, and.
- 3:35Speaker 10: They're pretty well written. All three of those are pretty.
- 3:38Speaker 11: Damn amazingly put together, especially for a huge ensemble group.
- 3:42Speaker 11: So now you're coming back to more or less one guy,
- 3:45Speaker 11: and I feel like by the end we don't really.
- 3:48Speaker 9: Know much about him.
- 3:48Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 3:49Speaker 10: Did you not have an issue? I feel like he's
- 3:51Speaker 10: so glossed over.
- 3:53Speaker 11: I feel like I know more about Michael Douglas' character
- 3:55Speaker 11: by the end than Paul Rudd.
- 3:58Speaker 1: No, I'm picking up what you're putting down. I couldn't
- 4:00Speaker 1: feel that, but I really didn't feel like I needed
- 4:02Speaker 1: to know much more about him. More than he's, no,
- 4:06Speaker 1: I'm not spoiling anything here, don't worry. He's a burglar
- 4:09Speaker 1: and he's really good at what he does. And he's
- 4:12Speaker 1: incredibly intelligent. For some reason he had to turn to
- 4:16Speaker 1: burglaring because the economy was bad. But I didn't care.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I liked the action and the flash. Sometimes that's all
- 4:23Speaker 1: that you go in looking for. But I totally get
- 4:26Speaker 1: what you mean. His character was being built up. There
- 4:30Speaker 1: was no real buildup. building to it.
- 4:31Speaker 11: No, yeah, there's no real explanation as to why he's, like, again,
- 4:36Speaker 11: you watch those Iron Man movies, like, you kind of
- 4:39Speaker 11: get Tony Stark.
- 4:40Speaker 10: Like, they really sort of flesh out, like, the.
- 4:43Speaker 11: Good and a lot of the bad of, like, why
- 4:45Speaker 11: he is who he is, why he does what. This one, like,
- 4:48Speaker 11: they set up the situation, like, you know, coming out
- 4:50Speaker 11: of prison thing, but, like, I really don't feel like
- 4:53Speaker 11: we get anything from him as a character. I don't know,
- 4:56Speaker 11: that was probably my main thing, is by the end,
- 4:58Speaker 11: I was just like, Well, that was alright.
- 5:01Speaker 10: Like, I liked it.
- 5:02Speaker 1: It was fun.
- 5:02Speaker 11: It was enjoyable.
- 5:04Speaker 9: But I'm just.
- 5:05Speaker 11: I don't know. I'm trying to hold it to the
- 5:06Speaker 11: standards of the other Marvel. And, like, a lot of
- 5:09Speaker 11: them are way more... This is around the, like, Thor
- 5:12Speaker 11: area for me.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 9: Which is usually on the low end.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I get that. I totally... Well, I actually enjoyed the
- 5:17Speaker 1: Thor movies, too.
- 5:18Speaker 12: But.
- 5:19Speaker 10: Again, I like them.
- 5:20Speaker 9: They're fun.
- 5:20Speaker 11: But I don't... Like, I kind of don't care about Thor.
- 5:22Speaker 9: Like, he's the least interesting for me. Because he's a god.
- 5:24Speaker 10: And, like, he has no flaws.
- 5:26Speaker 9: And, like, who cares? He's just pretty.
- 5:28Speaker 10: And he is pretty, which is why he's a, he's
- 5:29Speaker 10: a likable guy.
- 5:30Speaker 11: I think that's what carries those Thor movies is him
- 5:33Speaker 11: or whatever the hell it is.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Chris Hemsworth. There we go.
- 5:35Speaker 11: Hemsworth.
- 5:38Speaker 8: Oh yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 11: Hemsworth is so damn likable that you're like, all right, well,
- 5:43Speaker 11: you know, I'm on board with this because he becomes
- 5:45Speaker 11: pretty damn likable even by that first movie. So it's like,
- 5:48Speaker 11: I think that's what carries those. But I feel like the,
- 5:50Speaker 11: especially that second one, you don't really get anything character
- 5:53Speaker 11: development out of it. It's just cool action scenes and
- 5:55Speaker 11: CG fights and like, that's fine.
- 5:58Speaker 10: And we get a good amount of that in Ant-Man.
- 5:59Speaker 11: The train fight's awesome, and the shrinking is awesome, and
- 6:04Speaker 11: the ants are... All of it's cool action scenes, but yeah,
- 6:07Speaker 11: I think I just wanted more.
- 6:08Speaker 1: It definitely just plays a lot more in humor, I think.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Even just the action sequences. The train falling over, and
- 6:17Speaker 1: it's such a big deal crushing them. Don't worry, you'll.
- 6:21Speaker 7: It's still very excited.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Yeah and then they zoom out to where it's like
- 6:26Speaker 1: regular size and it's just a toy train falling on
- 6:28Speaker 1: the ground like you know i laugh at that it's
- 6:30Speaker 1: campy and it's fun but you know going into it
- 6:33Speaker 1: i was kind of like ant-man i don't know about
- 6:35Speaker 1: this but whatever i'll just go enjoy a movie in
- 6:38Speaker 1: the summer afternoon and.
- 6:40Speaker 7: You have the same theater like privilege though with like
- 6:42Speaker 7: batman like batman you don't have to have necessarily the
- 6:45Speaker 7: character development Because he's so established.
- 6:47Speaker 11: Yeah, we all know.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And so Ant-Man's very obscure as far as the superhero.
- 6:51Speaker 11: They really do kind of need to flesh him out.
- 6:53Speaker 11: That's what I always give is, like, why that first
- 6:55Speaker 11: Iron Man is such a great example. Because normal people
- 6:59Speaker 11: did not know anything about Iron Man.
- 7:00Speaker 4: Like, he was a.
- 7:01Speaker 11: Secondary character in Marvel's run. So it's like, you really
- 7:04Speaker 11: kind of had to do a decent origin story with him.
- 7:06Speaker 11: Because most regular people, which is kind of what you're
- 7:09Speaker 11: going for with these popcorn movies, like.
- 7:11Speaker 9: They don't know the backstory. They don't know why.
- 7:13Speaker 11: He's doing any of this stuff. And they do such
- 7:16Speaker 11: a good job on that. Where this one, I feel
- 7:17Speaker 11: like they set up the action.
- 7:20Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 7:22Speaker 8: Did it leave off, obviously, sequel?
- 7:24Speaker 9: Oh, yeah.
- 7:26Speaker 11: And coming back in the next one, too, if I'm
- 7:28Speaker 11: not mistaken, they even sort of stick around for the
- 7:31Speaker 11: credit scene because I think that leads right into.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Civil War.
- 7:34Speaker 11: Okay.
- 7:34Speaker 9: Oh, interesting.
- 7:35Speaker 11: So definitely, yeah, sticker.
- 7:37Speaker 7: I've heard about like the giant man being a character
- 7:39Speaker 7: maybe in this Ant-Man franchise. My little brother's actually a
- 7:42Speaker 7: much bigger superhero than I am, but he's excited about
- 7:45Speaker 7: that movie.
- 7:46Speaker 11: The other thing is I also feel like it feels
- 7:49Speaker 11: exactly like what happened is on the screen. Like you
- 7:52Speaker 11: watch it and you're kind of like, hmm, it kind
- 7:54Speaker 11: of feels like this had a director and then he
- 7:56Speaker 11: left halfway through.
- 7:58Speaker 10: Because you can watch like those scenes and you know
- 8:00Speaker 10: which one I'm talking about.
- 8:01Speaker 11: You're like, yeah, he wrote this because he's still listed
- 8:04Speaker 11: as co-writer and he's still like executive producer.
- 8:07Speaker 10: Like he's still.
- 8:07Speaker 11: Listed as like he was halfway into making that movie, obviously.
- 8:11Speaker 11: So it's like there's just an exchange with a guy
- 8:14Speaker 11: telling the story. And I'm like, that is straight out
- 8:17Speaker 11: of anything else in his arsenal. Like that is straight
- 8:21Speaker 11: out of like Shaun of the Dead or like, I mean,
- 8:23Speaker 11: it's it's just set up exactly like the way he
- 8:26Speaker 11: would shoot something like that.
- 8:28Speaker 10: Probably not edited near as tightly.
- 8:29Speaker 11: I still feel like it probably would have benefited even
- 8:31Speaker 11: more had he actually been directing.
- 8:33Speaker 9: But, yeah, I don't know.
- 8:35Speaker 10: I feel like that's still tangible.
- 8:38Speaker 11: You can sit there and go, yeah, I think that's
- 8:41Speaker 11: probably where these weak points came in is he probably
- 8:43Speaker 11: would have tightened all that stuff up and he wasn't
- 8:45Speaker 11: there anymore because Marvel kind of choked him out.
- 8:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 8:49Speaker 11: Got rid of all the creativity that he was probably
- 8:51Speaker 11: trying to inject into this thing.
- 8:53Speaker 1: It'll definitely be one to go back and revisit. But,
- 8:57Speaker 1: you know, It does play off the humor, like I said.
- 8:59Speaker 1: It was very aware of itself being a movie about
- 9:03Speaker 1: a hero named Ant-Man. And when it was initially announced,
- 9:08Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I'm not even going to go
- 9:09Speaker 1: see that in theaters. I'm going to waste my time.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Another Bugman movie. Another Bugman.
- 9:14Speaker 10: And even Paul Rudd.
- 9:16Speaker 11: I was just like, I love Paul Rudd, but I
- 9:17Speaker 11: was like, in a superhero movie? Even then, I was
- 9:20Speaker 11: kind of questioning the casting, but he pulls it off.
- 9:23Speaker 11: I think he can do it, they just don't really
- 9:25Speaker 11: give him anything to do in this one, but Again,
- 9:28Speaker 11: looking for sequels and tie-ins in the next Marvel movie,
- 9:32Speaker 11: I think there's potential there. I'm glad that he's Ant-Man
- 9:35Speaker 11: and seems like he's going to stick around and continue it.
- 9:38Speaker 11: So I kind of want to see more with Paul
- 9:40Speaker 11: Rudd because he's definitely got potential to do way more
- 9:43Speaker 11: with the character.
- 9:44Speaker 1: And I've noticed that, just one more thing on Ant-Man,
- 9:47Speaker 1: like kind of all these superhero movies, with the casting
- 9:49Speaker 1: of Michael Douglas, you know, Guardians of the Galaxy, they
- 9:53Speaker 1: had Glenn Close in there. They pull these, like, you know,
- 9:56Speaker 1: older actors and actresses in who are really talented and
- 10:00Speaker 1: have done awesome movies. And it's kind of an interesting
- 10:04Speaker 1: thing to see the choices that they make. Like, you know,
- 10:08Speaker 1: it's not just, like, some off-spin, like, older actor. It's,
- 10:12Speaker 1: you know, big names. Like, Michael Caine was in Batman
- 10:16Speaker 1: as one of the lead characters. They like to cast...
- 10:20Speaker 1: really talented older actors just in kind of fun roles.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Like Guardians of the Galaxy played a lot on humor.
- 10:25Speaker 8: Definitely.
- 10:26Speaker 1: But it was significantly more entertaining for multiple reasons than Ant-Man.
- 10:31Speaker 11: And Michael Douglas was really, like I said, I got
- 10:34Speaker 11: more from his character. So I'm like, I think he
- 10:36Speaker 11: did deliver what he probably had more written about, you know,
- 10:40Speaker 11: his backstory than our Paul Rudd's character. So it's like,
- 10:44Speaker 11: I do feel like he kind of stepped up and
- 10:46Speaker 11: could have just phoned it in, but he does give
- 10:48Speaker 11: a good performance.
- 10:50Speaker 7: Are you guys excited for the new Fantastic Four, the reboot?
- 10:53Speaker 11: Since I haven't seen it yet, I guess I'm not
- 10:55Speaker 11: that excited.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Not excited for it? I'm pretty excited, actually. I think
- 11:00Speaker 1: I'll go see it.
- 11:01Speaker 11: Again, I'm enough of a geek to just go see
- 11:04Speaker 11: superhero movies, but I don't know. I'm going in kind
- 11:08Speaker 11: of guarded.
- 11:08Speaker 7: I'm like, this could And this is a lame reason
- 11:11Speaker 7: to even be excited for, but honestly, just having a
- 11:14Speaker 7: black actor as one of the main characters.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Especially not, you know, I don't know.
- 11:19Speaker 8: Especially because he's a good actor.
- 11:19Speaker 7: As the Human Torch.
- 11:20Speaker 12: Yeah, exactly.
- 11:21Speaker 8: It's going to be pretty rad.
- 11:22Speaker 6: That's cool.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And then Jamie Bell is the thing. I have another
- 11:25Speaker 1: crush on Jamie Bell as well.
- 11:27Speaker 9: I like all of that. Yeah, the people they brought in.
- 11:29Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Miles.
- 11:30Speaker 11: Miles Teller.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Miles Teller is awesome.
- 11:32Speaker 11: Oh, yeah.
- 11:33Speaker 8: Whiplash. Yes.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Holy shit.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Let's not get started on Whiplash because this will be
- 11:37Speaker 1: dominated by Whiplash.
- 11:40Speaker 11: Well, if there's a downfall of the new one, it's
- 11:42Speaker 11: as far as I know, there's no Silver Surfer, which
- 11:45Speaker 11: obviously they should have had.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Took them two movies the last time to get into it, right?
- 11:50Speaker 1: It's kind of funny that the Fantastic Four is like
- 11:52Speaker 1: the Wicker Man of the superhero world. Like the Nick
- 11:54Speaker 1: Cage Wicker Man, pretty much. Have either of you seen
- 11:59Speaker 1: the Fantastic Four original?
- 12:03Speaker 11: Like the Gorman one?
- 12:05Speaker 1: Yeah, like the 1992 one.
- 12:08Speaker 11: The one that he made basically just to keep it
- 12:11Speaker 11: from falling, like, for legal reasons.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a really interesting story behind that, too. And
- 12:16Speaker 1: then the fact that, you know, it was lost for
- 12:19Speaker 1: a couple years and then brought back to life, and
- 12:22Speaker 1: now you can just hop on the internet and watch it.
- 12:25Speaker 11: At any time. Yeah, it's probably sitting on YouTube for free, so, yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And it's really not half bad. I was pretty entertained
- 12:30Speaker 1: by it.
- 12:30Speaker 11: Again, I like Corman's approach to making film. He's always
- 12:35Speaker 11: very business savvy, but in the best possible way. But
- 12:38Speaker 11: he also never really tried to kill the creative end
- 12:42Speaker 11: of it. He always hired super impressive writers and directors.
- 12:46Speaker 11: And as you can see, they always go on to
- 12:48Speaker 11: be massive A-list filmmakers. So you kind of go back
- 12:53Speaker 11: and watch him and go, yeah, he knows how to
- 12:55Speaker 11: balance the two and make something make money, but at
- 12:57Speaker 11: the same time, give it to somebody, you know, who's
- 13:00Speaker 11: got an actual creative edge to them.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd read an interview with the guy who directed
- 13:06Speaker 1: the Fantastic Four from 90, I keep saying 92, so
- 13:10Speaker 1: I'm just going to go with that.
- 13:11Speaker 11: We'll pretend like it is.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Yeah, 92. And he was saying, you know, I got
- 13:16Speaker 1: this opportunity to work with Roger Corman and And I
- 13:19Speaker 1: was like, oh, every big name in Hollywood's worked with
- 13:21Speaker 1: Roger Corman. This is my ticket. This is it for me.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And then, you know, he finished the film. They were
- 13:27Speaker 1: waiting for it to come out and they just never
- 13:29Speaker 1: saw or heard anything about it. And one day he
- 13:30Speaker 1: got a call from Corman and he said, hey, you
- 13:33Speaker 1: did a great job. Thanks for everything. And, you know,
- 13:36Speaker 1: he hadn't heard anything about it since until all of
- 13:40Speaker 1: a sudden people started talking about it on blogs and saying,
- 13:43Speaker 1: you guys have got to check this out. It's incredible.
- 13:46Speaker 1: It's like, This really funny superhero movie from the early
- 13:50Speaker 1: 90s with crude effects. Kind of terrible writing, but still fun.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Good interview.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Check it out.
- 13:57Speaker 11: All right. On that Marvel note, let's go talk to
- 14:01Speaker 11: the Silver Surfer.
- 14:02Speaker 13: Let's do it.
- 14:03Speaker 10: We'll take our break.
- 14:04Speaker 11: We'll be right back.
- 14:12Speaker 10: All the now speaks adventure. They got hit by cosmic rays.
- 14:19Speaker 14: And the four will.
- 14:20Speaker 13: Change forever In.
- 14:22Speaker 15: Some most fantastic ways No need to fear, they're here
- 14:26Speaker 15: just for the four Fantastic Four Don't need no more,
- 14:34Speaker 15: that's ungrammatical Reed Richards is the last name The suit
- 14:41Speaker 15: gets me from sight Johnny is the human torch The
- 14:48Speaker 15: thing just loves to fight More for more.
- 14:59Speaker 8: Golden, pure, creamery butter.
- 15:01Speaker 5: Rich, flavorful, satisfying. That's what it takes for the finest.
- 15:04Speaker 8: Buttered popcorn, and that's what we use.
- 15:07Speaker 5: See for yourself why there's no showtime.
- 15:09Speaker 13: Treat to equal the crisp, delicious flavor of hot popcorn
- 15:12Speaker 13: that's bathed in real melted butter.
- 15:15Speaker 5: It's at the concession stand now.
- 15:17Speaker 8: Want some music for your ears? Doo-Wop Shop makes it
- 15:20Speaker 8: easy to rent for any event, business meeting, or special occasion.

- 17:19Speaker 11: Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do.
- 17:43Speaker 6: I think that floor sounds like... Floor sounds pretty cool.
- 17:46Speaker 6: Pretty cool. I don't know if you guys... How's the
- 17:49Speaker 6: Hilton floor?
- 17:49Speaker 5: The Hilton floor is great.
- 17:51Speaker 11: Okay.
- 17:51Speaker 6: Sure, sure. That makes me sound like a whore.
- 17:55Speaker 9: The floor is great!
- 17:57Speaker 6: At these hotels.
- 17:58Speaker 14: What kind of party is this?
- 18:02Speaker 6: I know, I know. Because we sat on the floor
- 18:04Speaker 6: in my suite the other day.
- 18:06Speaker 9: I think so.
- 18:07Speaker 6: We did in Lexington. Because it's more intimate.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 18:11Speaker 6: It's more like going on a campfire. We just ate
- 18:14Speaker 6: bowls of ramen.
- 18:16Speaker 17: We ate bowls of ramen. We're back in college. Also,
- 18:22Speaker 17: cuddling is totally on the table. It's a really good stuff.
- 18:27Speaker 6: That's what the floor of Hilton's were built for. Cuddling.
- 18:30Speaker 6: Cuddling and making money.
- 18:33Speaker 9: We're on the floor.
- 18:34Speaker 6: We're talking about cuddling. Obviously, we're here with Christian. Back
- 18:39Speaker 6: with Doug. Are we recording?
- 18:42Speaker 9: We are recording right now.
- 18:44Speaker 6: Is this thing on?
- 18:45Speaker 9: I believe so.
- 18:47Speaker 4: All right.
- 18:49Speaker 9: So, it's been a while. How has it been?
- 18:55Speaker 4: It or me? How have I been?
- 18:57Speaker 9: Okay.
- 18:57Speaker 4: I'm great. It's been wonderful.
- 19:00Speaker 12: Yeah, no.
- 19:01Speaker 4: The last time I talked to you was, I think, 2013.
- 19:03Speaker 13: Mm-hmm.
- 19:05Speaker 4: And the last two years have been very eventful. I'm
- 19:08Speaker 4: still on Falling Skies. I think I just finished my
- 19:12Speaker 4: first season.
- 19:12Speaker 9: Yeah, you just appeared.
- 19:14Speaker 4: On the scene. Our final season is airing right now
- 19:17Speaker 4: on TNT, Sunday nights at 10, 9 Central. And it's
- 19:22Speaker 4: an exciting season! Because we knew going in that it
- 19:25Speaker 4: was going to be our last.
- 19:27Speaker 9: They didn't have it planned out for that many?
- 19:29Speaker 11: They did.
- 19:29Speaker 9: Or they just saw the end coming?
- 19:31Speaker 4: I think Noah Wiley saw it. He kind of was like,
- 19:35Speaker 4: five is good.
- 19:36Speaker 11: I've kind of said that for years. I think anything
- 19:39Speaker 11: that goes past five seasons.
- 19:41Speaker 9: It's got to be a really good show.
- 19:43Speaker 8: It does.
- 19:44Speaker 6: Especially post-apocalyptic.
- 19:45Speaker 4: We're in survival mode. Dirt on our faces. You know,
- 19:49Speaker 4: that kind of thing. so long. We had exhausted our options,
- 19:54Speaker 4: I think. I shouldn't say we. The writers, they brought
- 19:58Speaker 4: us to a close because they felt it was time.
- 20:00Speaker 9: You were doing fine, but those writers.
- 20:03Speaker 4: I was on the show for the last three years,
- 20:05Speaker 4: and when you're wearing a full alien makeup for three years,
- 20:08Speaker 4: it's the longest running creature gig I've ever had. I was, oh, really?
- 20:14Speaker 4: We have to end it? Really? It's okay, it's okay,
- 20:17Speaker 4: it's okay, it's okay.
- 20:18Speaker 7: So when you're in your makeup at all hours, is
- 20:21Speaker 7: it like all day, I'm assuming, or it's like a
- 20:24Speaker 7: consistent thing you have your mask on constantly?
- 20:26Speaker 4: Yes, that's a glued-on situation.
- 20:28Speaker 7: Do you ever look in the mirror and start to
- 20:30Speaker 7: lose touch.
- 20:31Speaker 4: With Who you were before. The real me.
- 20:33Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 20:34Speaker 4: No, no. After 30 years in the biz, I'm talking
- 20:37Speaker 4: like an old man.
- 20:37Speaker 12: Isn't there a real Doug anymore?
- 20:39Speaker 11: Right, right.
- 20:39Speaker 5: He's there.
- 20:39Speaker 9: He's become prosthetic.
- 20:40Speaker 1: We all wear masks.
- 20:42Speaker 11: Don't we?
- 20:46Speaker 4: Minors just glued on.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:47Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 20:49Speaker 4: I just didn't know. I've seen many end of the
- 20:51Speaker 4: days come where it comes off, so I don't lose
- 20:54Speaker 4: myself too much. It always comes back to being me
- 20:57Speaker 4: when I go back to my home or hotel or
- 20:59Speaker 4: wherever I'm staying. Yeah.
- 21:02Speaker 11: You know, that's one I was wondering is like in
- 21:04Speaker 11: the last, as you mentioned, many years over the years,
- 21:08Speaker 11: you've started to come out of the prosthetics.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Well, yeah, we're sitting here in Louisville, Kentucky right now,
- 21:13Speaker 4: because I am out of the prosthetics on a Hallmark
- 21:16Speaker 4: channel movie of all things. I know.
- 21:19Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 21:19Speaker 9: This is so money's rolling in.
- 21:21Speaker 4: You want to talk about breaking away from my usual gig? Uh, uh, no,
- 21:26Speaker 4: this is a feel good, inspirational film, lessons learned. Um,
- 21:31Speaker 4: Let's see. A wealthy older woman, Miss Sally, passes away
- 21:38Speaker 4: near the beginning of the film and leaves a humongous
- 21:40Speaker 4: fortune to her grandson, Joey. Before he can collect his inheritance, though,
- 21:46Speaker 4: he has to pass some tests, learn some lessons, prove
- 21:50Speaker 4: himself worthy to carry on Grandma Sally's legacy. Hence the
- 21:54Speaker 4: name of the movie, The Ultimate Legacy, which is part
- 21:57Speaker 4: three of a trilogy. It was the ultimate gift. with
- 22:00Speaker 4: Abigail Breslin, James Garner, Brian Dennehy in the first movie.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Second movie was The Ultimate Life, and the third one
- 22:07Speaker 4: now is The Ultimate Legacy. And in this one, the
- 22:11Speaker 4: law office that is handling this inheritance will, the main
- 22:19Speaker 4: lawyer is played by Bill Cobbs, if you know that
- 22:23Speaker 4: luscious actor. He was Whitney Houston's manager in The Bodyguard.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Hey!
- 22:27Speaker 4: Hello. And his legal assistant at the office is Leigh Merriweather, right?
- 22:35Speaker 4: Former Miss America, former Catwoman.
- 22:37Speaker 9: We've had her on the show.
- 22:39Speaker 4: Have you had her on? There you go. She's a
- 22:41Speaker 4: very nice woman.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Okay.
- 22:44Speaker 4: I posted a picture of her and myself today on Instagram, Twitter.
- 22:48Speaker 4: It's Woman Crush Wednesday. It's Leigh Merriweather. She's 80 years old,
- 22:52Speaker 4: never had a thing done to her face, and she
- 22:54Speaker 4: is stunningly gorgeous to this day.
- 22:56Speaker 12: Is she married?
- 23:01Speaker 9: She is married.
- 23:01Speaker 12: That's alright.
- 23:05Speaker 4: The entire cast of this movie has fallen madly in
- 23:08Speaker 4: love with Leigh Merriweather. She is just such a golden-hearted,
- 23:11Speaker 4: angelic woman. Goofy sense of humor. Love her, love her,
- 23:15Speaker 4: love her. Oh my gosh, Woman Crush Wednesday. Also in
- 23:18Speaker 4: the film, Brian Dennehy also has come back.
- 23:21Speaker 11: I did see he was in here.
- 23:23Speaker 5: Yes.
- 23:24Speaker 4: He was indeed.
- 23:25Speaker 9: I wasn't sure if it was connected to you or not.
- 23:26Speaker 4: It was our movie. And also then the boss lady,
- 23:32Speaker 4: Miss Sally Mae Anderson, who is the one who passes
- 23:35Speaker 4: away near the beginning of the film, is played by
- 23:38Speaker 4: Raquel Welch.
- 23:40Speaker 12: I know.
- 23:40Speaker 1: I know.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Okay, now we have some young people in the room
- 23:43Speaker 4: that are making faces. Raquel Welch, iconic sex symbol of
- 23:48Speaker 4: the 60s and 70s. She, everyone knew her. Everyone, not
- 23:54Speaker 4: knew Raquel Welch. Everyone had a massive lusting for Raquel Welch.
- 23:59Speaker 4: She's now 75 years old. It's weird that.
- 24:02Speaker 11: Most middle generations now are going to know her from
- 24:05Speaker 11: that episode of Seinfeld.
- 24:07Speaker 9: She's the woman that won't swing her arms.
- 24:09Speaker 16: Right. Oh, there we go.
- 24:11Speaker 12: I'm mad at myself for not knowing.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Thank you, Seinfeld.
- 24:14Speaker 9: Very great.
- 24:15Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 4: Yeah, so she, well, she was also in one of
- 24:18Speaker 4: those B.C. movies. Iconic poster image of her. One million
- 24:21Speaker 4: years B.C., I think.
- 24:22Speaker 12: One million years B.C.
- 24:23Speaker 4: She's got a very iconic black and white poster of
- 24:27Speaker 4: her in like a, you know, shredded, a furry bikini thing, yeah.
- 24:31Speaker 4: With a bouffant hairdo and false eyelashes, but still, it
- 24:34Speaker 4: was the 60s.
- 24:34Speaker 9: Like all cave women had.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Yeah, she did a movie with Richard Pryor, I think,
- 24:38Speaker 4: Mother Jugs and Speed. I saw in the theater when
- 24:40Speaker 4: I was a kid. Anyways, she is, but she is
- 24:43Speaker 4: like a true icon. And so, and she played, and
- 24:47Speaker 4: I am her butler in the movie. So I'm her
- 24:49Speaker 4: butler slash right-hand confidant driver guy. So, so I've become
- 24:53Speaker 4: an integral part of the story when she leaves this
- 24:55Speaker 4: planet because she, a part of this leaving her legacy
- 24:59Speaker 4: to her grandson. I'm a part of the process of,
- 25:02Speaker 4: of knowing what steps he has to pass and how
- 25:05Speaker 4: to help him along the way. And she, before the
- 25:08Speaker 4: beginning of the movie, she asks me, will you keep
- 25:10Speaker 4: an eye on him? And of course I give her my, my,
- 25:12Speaker 4: if I will. And so that's bookended at the end
- 25:15Speaker 4: of the film. And it's actually, I, I never get
- 25:18Speaker 4: offered this kind of role to be a butler in,
- 25:22Speaker 4: in this, in this like inspirational feel good movie for
- 25:26Speaker 4: the Hallmark channel. And it's the setting is just, we're
- 25:29Speaker 4: out here in the outskirts of Louisville. The reason I'm
- 25:31Speaker 4: here and this far out of the city right now
- 25:34Speaker 4: is that we're filming in the Grange, which is even
- 25:36Speaker 4: farther out. Yeah. And then there's a lot of horse
- 25:38Speaker 4: property estates out there, like a lot of.
- 25:40Speaker 1: It's on swimming core, yeah.
- 25:41Speaker 4: We're always, okay, lots of rich people.
- 25:44Speaker 6: Right.
- 25:45Speaker 4: So the house we're filming at is glorious. And I
- 25:49Speaker 4: think there's another reason why I wanted to review Meet
- 25:52Speaker 4: Joe Black today. Because this is my meet Joe Black.
- 25:55Speaker 4: This is my experience. I'm filming on this beautiful, sprawling estate.
- 25:59Speaker 4: I'm the butler. I'm well-dressed every day. I'm surrounded by well-dressed,
- 26:02Speaker 4: beautiful people. And we have a stellar older cast and
- 26:06Speaker 4: a stellar younger cast. And I'm kind of fitting in
- 26:08Speaker 4: the middle. At my age now, I'm 55. Don't I
- 26:11Speaker 4: look fabulous, by the way?
- 26:12Speaker 1: Everybody, thank you.
- 26:12Speaker 4: I thought I saw it already.
- 26:13Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 26:18Speaker 4: And so usually now when I'm working on things, I'm
- 26:21Speaker 4: usually the oldest member of whatever cast that is, right?
- 26:24Speaker 4: So I just did an episode of Z Nation for
- 26:30Speaker 4: the Sci-Fi Channel before I got here. Of course, I've
- 26:32Speaker 4: been on Arrow and Flash. I've been on Teen Wolf.
- 26:35Speaker 4: I'm in a young genre, and I'm usually the old
- 26:38Speaker 4: guy on set when I do these. So to be
- 26:40Speaker 4: here with four cast members who are notably older than me,
- 26:44Speaker 4: although to be my parents... It's like we have 75
- 26:46Speaker 4: and up. You know what I'm saying? All the way
- 26:48Speaker 4: up to Bill Cobbs is 81. Brian Denny is 77.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Lee Merriweather just turned 80. So I'm loving, loving feeling
- 26:56Speaker 4: like the kid. Again, you know, among these iconic, legendary actors,
- 27:01Speaker 4: all of them. So I.
- 27:04Speaker 12: Oh my gosh.
- 27:06Speaker 4: And what it switched this is coming off of like...
- 27:09Speaker 4: I've done one post-apocalyptic job after another. Whether it's zombies
- 27:12Speaker 4: or aliens or just.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Water Be Gone. I might have done a couple of...
- 27:19Speaker 4: I just did a movie called We've Forgotten More Than
- 27:21Speaker 4: We Ever Knew. It's a long title. I filmed it
- 27:24Speaker 4: in upstate New York, but I'm one of three people
- 27:27Speaker 4: left on Earth, and that's it. I did a short
- 27:30Speaker 4: film called Olive, where I was the last guy on Earth.
- 27:32Speaker 4: And this is all within the last few months. I know,
- 27:35Speaker 4: I know, I know. So then, again, you can see
- 27:38Speaker 4: why I'm lusting over coming here to do a lavish,
- 27:41Speaker 4: beautiful piece with swelling music and lessons learned.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Right.
- 27:46Speaker 4: You can see why I'm so happy to be here.
- 27:48Speaker 11: So that's, yeah, that's what I was wondering as you
- 27:50Speaker 11: get out of the makeup over the years, do you
- 27:52Speaker 11: get more comfortable? Cause before you had these sort of
- 27:55Speaker 11: camouflage of latex and like you could quarter, you could
- 27:59Speaker 11: be performing, but.
- 27:59Speaker 9: You weren't, you know, you on display. So is it
- 28:03Speaker 9: different watching?
- 28:03Speaker 4: There is something.
- 28:04Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 28:04Speaker 4: I learned, I did a movie called my name is Jerry,
- 28:07Speaker 4: where I played Jerry, the title character about five years ago,
- 28:10Speaker 4: a little more than that. It came out five years ago,
- 28:11Speaker 4: but we filmed it more like seven years ago. And, um,
- 28:15Speaker 4: That was my first time being on the cover of
- 28:19Speaker 4: the DVD. It was my face.
- 28:21Speaker 8: I was Jerry.
- 28:22Speaker 4: I was the story without one prosthetic piece on me.
- 28:28Speaker 12: Let's see.
- 28:29Speaker 4: When you're wearing a prosthetic makeup or a creature suit
- 28:32Speaker 4: of some sort, you have a certain freedom to go
- 28:35Speaker 4: big and you don't care.
- 28:36Speaker 9: You kind of have to.
- 28:37Speaker 4: You kind of have to. It's kind of fun to
- 28:41Speaker 4: explore all the extremities of physicality, of of whatever ecosystem
- 28:47Speaker 4: it is of the creature you're playing. But you take
- 28:49Speaker 4: all that away, and it's just, you feel like you're
- 28:52Speaker 4: walking out of the house in a Speedo. Now, they're
- 28:54Speaker 4: street legal, right? But not everybody really wants to wear
- 28:58Speaker 4: one outside, right?
- 28:59Speaker 9: It's comfortable, yeah.
- 29:01Speaker 4: Now, mind you, I look hot in a Speedo.
- 29:03Speaker 12: Obviously. I can only imagine.
- 29:05Speaker 16: Right, right, right.
- 29:06Speaker 11: Until later when, I mean, once we're done, I'm assuming
- 29:08Speaker 11: there's a fashion show. Speedo fashion show.
- 29:12Speaker 4: Well, we are in a hotel room, so I.
- 29:13Speaker 9: On the carpet. On the carpet.
- 29:17Speaker 4: So, yeah, but that's what it feels like. But after
- 29:20Speaker 4: a while, though, after a while, so I felt like, oh,
- 29:24Speaker 4: if my name is Jerry, like, I was outside in
- 29:27Speaker 4: a Speedo, yes, but I had made it to the pool,
- 29:29Speaker 4: and everybody else was dressed like that, too. So, you
- 29:31Speaker 4: know what I mean? So the comfort level comes back.
- 29:34Speaker 4: with with more doing it so now uh yeah so
- 29:37Speaker 4: now getting to do something like this um i've been
- 29:39Speaker 4: using my face a lot more lately like i mentioned
- 29:41Speaker 4: arrow in the flash that was i was playing death
- 29:43Speaker 4: bolt a dc comics villain with my own face i've
- 29:46Speaker 4: been watching the flash i'm really into the flash it's
- 29:48Speaker 4: a good show it's a really good show.
- 29:51Speaker 11: I'm assuming there'll be some sort of repeat appearances.
- 29:54Speaker 4: Well, you know, they introduced me on Arrow, and then
- 29:59Speaker 4: they crossed me over to The Flash and joined other rogues.
- 30:03Speaker 4: And it looks like they might have killed me off
- 30:04Speaker 4: in that episode. You're not sure?
- 30:05Speaker 12: Yeah, I wasn't sure.
- 30:06Speaker 4: Because Captain Cold, played by Wentworth Miller, who's brilliant. Gosh,
- 30:11Speaker 4: he's brilliant. He shoots me in the face with the
- 30:15Speaker 4: freezy gun. I kind of turned to the camera going, whoa!
- 30:18Speaker 4: I fall out of frame and you're not really sure
- 30:20Speaker 4: what happened after that.
- 30:20Speaker 9: Yeah, I didn't take that. And we'll see him next season.
- 30:24Speaker 4: So the writers have some leeway. They can leave me
- 30:26Speaker 4: there or they can bring me back. But at Comic-Con
- 30:29Speaker 4: a few weeks ago, well, about a month ago in
- 30:31Speaker 4: San Diego, I was at an after party and one
- 30:33Speaker 4: of the writers from Arrow came up to me at
- 30:35Speaker 4: the Entertainment Weekly after party.
- 30:36Speaker 14: Doug, hi.
- 30:37Speaker 4: It's so-and-so from the writing staff. I just want to
- 30:40Speaker 4: tell you. I just want to tell you, we loved
- 30:43Speaker 4: having you on the show so much.
- 30:45Speaker 12: We were so excited to.
- 30:46Speaker 4: Have you, so excited to bring you back and write
- 30:47Speaker 4: more for you, but then Flash barred you and killed you.
- 30:49Speaker 4: We were so pissed off. We were so pissed off.
- 30:52Speaker 4: So that's why I was thinking, oh, they did kill
- 30:53Speaker 4: me then.
- 30:54Speaker 9: Ignore that guy. Writers get fired all the time.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Don't worry about it. So I don't know what my
- 31:03Speaker 4: fate is on that particular franchise. But coming up, I
- 31:07Speaker 4: don't know if this is the time to talk about
- 31:09Speaker 4: what's coming, but Crimson Peak is coming.
- 31:11Speaker 9: I was going to have to go to that one.
- 31:12Speaker 12: You were going to.
- 31:14Speaker 4: October 16th.
- 31:15Speaker 6: Yes.
- 31:16Speaker 4: Theaters everywhere. I play, it's Guillermo del Toro's newest movie.
- 31:20Speaker 4: It's his haunted house story. Huge cast. You've got Tom Hiddleston,
- 31:26Speaker 4: Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, and Charlie Hunnam. from Sons of Anarchy,
- 31:36Speaker 4: Pacific Rim. My Dreams also.
- 31:38Speaker 12: He's from My Dreams. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:41Speaker 9: All of them.
- 31:42Speaker 4: My Dreams. And so with all of them, there are
- 31:49Speaker 4: some lady ghosts that haunt the house. I am two
- 31:52Speaker 4: of those lady ghosts.
- 31:53Speaker 1: I know.
- 31:54Speaker 4: Now, I know we're having a little crossover, a gender issue.
- 31:56Speaker 4: But why we play lady ghosts, I will not tell you.
- 32:00Speaker 4: You have to see the movie to say why the
- 32:02Speaker 4: ghosts are ladies and what they want. what message they're
- 32:04Speaker 4: trying to get across, that you have to watch the
- 32:06Speaker 4: movie to find out.
- 32:07Speaker 8: But it was quite.
- 32:09Speaker 4: Okay, let me tell you this. I'm going to tell
- 32:11Speaker 4: you my little quip. Okay, there's one of my... Both
- 32:14Speaker 4: my ghosts are hinted at, at least in the trailer
- 32:16Speaker 4: you've seen so far on the WebberNet. One of them
- 32:19Speaker 4: is in a bathtub. It's a red lady ghost, and
- 32:23Speaker 4: I step out of the bathtub. You didn't see this
- 32:24Speaker 4: in the trailer, but I step out, and I'm stark-ass
- 32:26Speaker 4: naked as a lady. So lots of prosthetics from head
- 32:30Speaker 4: to toe, reshaping my body and everything I had... Saggy
- 32:34Speaker 4: boobicles the whole nine yards. And as I got out
- 32:37Speaker 4: of the bathtub, I was supposed to walk down the
- 32:40Speaker 4: hallway after one of the other characters. I won't tell
- 32:42Speaker 4: you who. And I thought to myself, gosh, I really
- 32:47Speaker 4: got to vamp this up. You know what I'm saying?
- 32:50Speaker 4: Because I'm a skinny, hipless boy. And I need to
- 32:55Speaker 4: get my girl on. That's my new band name. I'm
- 32:58Speaker 4: a skinny, hipless boy.
- 32:59Speaker 10: We're going to kick ass.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Opening for Justin Bieber.
- 33:02Speaker 12: Right, right, right.
- 33:06Speaker 4: So I'm walking. Take one. I'm like walking down the hallway,
- 33:11Speaker 4: and I'm trying to be as haunting and as womanly
- 33:14Speaker 4: as I can. Guillermo del Toro, we finish the take,
- 33:17Speaker 4: he goes, cut.
- 33:18Speaker 12: Dog, can you butch it up?
- 33:21Speaker 11: It's too sexy. Yes.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Yes, I win.
- 33:24Speaker 9: You did it.
- 33:25Speaker 11: Yes.
- 33:25Speaker 6: I pulled it off.
- 33:26Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 33:28Speaker 11: I'm glad you at least got to do the impression
- 33:30Speaker 11: as well I know I had a specific question about
- 33:35Speaker 11: working with him you've spent a lot of your life working.
- 33:37Speaker 4: With Guillermo I have 5 movies and The Strain now too.
- 33:40Speaker 11: So I've known you over the years I've met you
- 33:45Speaker 11: several times now I don't know that I've heard you
- 33:47Speaker 11: curse and.
- 33:49Speaker 10: Yet if there's one thing he's notorious for it's.
- 33:52Speaker 4: Every other word so how are you around that all
- 33:57Speaker 4: day long Oh, on Guillermo del Toro, cussing is charming somehow.
- 34:02Speaker 9: It is. Like, I just heard him do it, and
- 34:04Speaker 9: I was like, oh.
- 34:05Speaker 1: It's adorable.
- 34:07Speaker 4: I've often said that he's trilingual. He's fluent in English, Spanish,
- 34:11Speaker 4: and the F word.
- 34:13Speaker 1: All right, so.
- 34:14Speaker 11: Which I heard him use about you recently.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Did he really? Yeah.
- 34:19Speaker 11: Would you like me to bust it out completely?
- 34:21Speaker 8: Bust it out.
- 34:22Speaker 11: I won't do the accent because I do it wrong,
- 34:24Speaker 11: but he was basically talking about having these ghosts in there,
- 34:28Speaker 11: one of which, or several of which, is played by Doug.
- 34:30Speaker 9: Jones, one of the skinniest motherfuckers I've.
- 34:32Speaker 10: Ever worked with.
- 34:34Speaker 9: I think it was skinniest motherfucker on the planet. I
- 34:36Speaker 9: was like, all right, he's got a point.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I mean, you know.
- 34:39Speaker 4: Well, now a couple of other lady ghosts in the
- 34:40Speaker 4: film are played by Javier Botet, another tall, skinny fella.
- 34:43Speaker 9: I think he was referencing that both of them.
- 34:45Speaker 8: Both of them, right.
- 34:46Speaker 9: And then he didn't feel so skinny when you.
- 34:48Speaker 12: Guys were around.
- 34:50Speaker 1: No, bless his heart.
- 34:52Speaker 11: He's just he's always kind of adorable.
- 34:55Speaker 4: He's a cuddly he's a pinchable squeezable just wanted to shake.
- 34:59Speaker 11: Him and excited about filmmaking like I think that's one
- 35:03Speaker 11: of the things.
- 35:03Speaker 4: That comes through the most he's excited about film watching
- 35:07Speaker 4: so he makes a film so he can watch it
- 35:10Speaker 4: and get a geekgasm as he calls them so he's
- 35:13Speaker 4: a fanboy truly so when he makes movies he makes
- 35:15Speaker 4: them for himself as a fanboy and that's why we
- 35:18Speaker 4: all go.
- 35:19Speaker 11: Oh this is fantastic you know And he's right.
- 35:23Speaker 4: And he's right.
- 35:24Speaker 12: Exactly.
- 35:25Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 35:26Speaker 1: I had actually just seen The Devil's Backbone for the
- 35:28Speaker 1: first time a couple months back. Yeah. Unfortunately, right before
- 35:31Speaker 1: the video store closed. It was one of my final rentals.
- 35:33Speaker 1: It had been on my list forever. And it was gorgeous. Haunting.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:38Speaker 1: The whole nine yards.
- 35:39Speaker 15: Right.
- 35:39Speaker 11: That's what he does.
- 35:40Speaker 1: So I'm looking forward to Crimson Peak. And I did
- 35:42Speaker 1: see the trailer, actually, before Jurassic World.
- 35:44Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Oh, did you?
- 35:45Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 35:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 35:47Speaker 11: It looks amazing.
- 35:48Speaker 1: It looks amazing. And I was there with my dad.
- 35:49Speaker 4: And he said, that looks good.
- 35:51Speaker 1: And my dad is not one who likes horror movies.
- 35:53Speaker 4: But he's like, that looks pretty good. But, you know,
- 35:55Speaker 4: set in the Victorian era, the costumes, the sets, all
- 35:59Speaker 4: the art direction, it's all specific with him. And it
- 36:01Speaker 4: all means something. Color palette is gorgeous.
- 36:04Speaker 1: These looming reds that just, it's like a watercolor painting almost.
- 36:09Speaker 1: At least that's what I got from the trailer.
- 36:10Speaker 4: Yeah, truly. And then Mia Wasikowski.
- 36:13Speaker 1: I've got a bit of a boy crush on her.
- 36:15Speaker 4: Of course you do.
- 36:17Speaker 7: Is it set in the house? Is it any shining
- 36:19Speaker 7: references specifically? You said you're coming out of the bathtub
- 36:22Speaker 7: as a lady.
- 36:25Speaker 4: I'm sure as many directors, Guillermo is also one who
- 36:29Speaker 4: gets inspired by other films. He gets inspired by other films,
- 36:33Speaker 4: by other works of art in general, like books and
- 36:36Speaker 4: paintings and music. He's inspired by so many things. Elements
- 36:43Speaker 4: of classic other movies will creep in to directors like him.
- 36:48Speaker 7: As it should against the movie Fanboy as well.
- 36:50Speaker 4: Exactly, totally.
- 36:52Speaker 11: I just saw that trailer the first time and was like,
- 36:54Speaker 11: how has he not made this already?
- 36:55Speaker 9: It's so up his alley.
- 36:57Speaker 14: Creepy Victorian haunted house movie.
- 36:59Speaker 4: How have we gone this far without it? Now it's
- 37:02Speaker 4: going to be on the resume. There you go. Speaking
- 37:08Speaker 4: of him, I'm also a recurring vampire on the stream.
- 37:11Speaker 4: I'm one of his ancients. we were introduced at the
- 37:14Speaker 4: end of season one as like kind of a cliffhanger,
- 37:17Speaker 4: you know, dun, dun, dun, see you next season. And
- 37:21Speaker 4: so sure enough in episode one of season two, which
- 37:24Speaker 4: was a few weeks ago, we showed up again and
- 37:28Speaker 4: fed on a poor naked fella who they brought him
- 37:31Speaker 4: into the middle of the room and three of us ancients,
- 37:33Speaker 4: you know, circled him and stuck out our humongous like
- 37:36Speaker 4: stinger tongue things and like sucked the life out of him.
- 37:40Speaker 4: As you do, you know.
- 37:42Speaker 11: Did you cross over with Samantha Mathis?
- 37:44Speaker 4: With Samantha... Samantha Mathis started in season two. Oh, no.
- 37:50Speaker 4: Our scenes were just with the kid who plays Gus.
- 37:52Speaker 11: We were all working our crushes in. We had her
- 37:57Speaker 11: on a few weeks ago and I contained myself as
- 37:59Speaker 11: best I could. I eventually just outed myself for the
- 38:03Speaker 11: giant version of her on my.
- 38:05Speaker 4: Door at home as a child. Oh, precious. Samantha Mathis.
- 38:11Speaker 11: So tell her hello next time you attack someone in
- 38:13Speaker 11: her vicinity.
- 38:14Speaker 4: And if you saw the season opener of season two,
- 38:17Speaker 4: I was also the original master in that opening flashback
- 38:21Speaker 4: sequence that shows how the master became the master. I
- 38:24Speaker 4: was the original skinny little golem-like master who infected the
- 38:27Speaker 4: big tall guy played by Robert Maillet. Big, big former
- 38:31Speaker 4: wrestler fella. He was also in Pacific Rim. But he's
- 38:35Speaker 4: seven feet tall and he has humongous bones. Like his
- 38:38Speaker 4: hands are the size of my head.
- 38:40Speaker 12: You know what I'm saying?
- 38:42Speaker 9: Any other projects. You've got 40 or 50 in the works.
- 38:46Speaker 9: This year.
- 38:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 38:47Speaker 12: Right, right, right.
- 38:48Speaker 4: So I mentioned, okay, Z Nation Season 2 starts September 11th,
- 38:52Speaker 4: and I'm in Episode 9. I guest star as a
- 38:56Speaker 4: little crazy alien hunter fella. The episode takes place in Roswell,
- 39:01Speaker 4: New Mexico, and I'm one of the freaks that they
- 39:02Speaker 4: come across who is an alien seeker. So I'm not
- 39:07Speaker 4: quite right in the head. Now, more happens with me.
- 39:10Speaker 4: More is revealed about me throughout the episodes. I don't
- 39:12Speaker 4: want to give all that away right now. But, yeah,
- 39:16Speaker 4: it was great fun to play. Also guest starring was
- 39:19Speaker 4: Missy Pyle with me as well. Very tall, beautiful actress.
- 39:25Speaker 4: She can go as crazy as you want her to go, too.
- 39:27Speaker 4: She's delightful on film. Nothing but love. I'm forgetting things.
- 39:35Speaker 4: There's got to be... That's what I was wondering.
- 39:38Speaker 11: Is it because you've got so much always in the works,
- 39:41Speaker 11: is it just... habit now? Or is it all like
- 39:45Speaker 11: the plates are spinning and I have to take the
- 39:46Speaker 11: next thing?
- 39:49Speaker 4: I'm a people pleaser and I hate saying no. And
- 39:53Speaker 4: yet when I say yes I find myself overworking, overstressed.
- 39:58Speaker 11: It's a fine line.
- 40:00Speaker 4: I have a couple. I'm doing about three or four
- 40:03Speaker 4: short films throughout the summer and fall. I don't know
- 40:06Speaker 4: that I really have time to work them on, but
- 40:07Speaker 4: I'm going to. I'm doing a web series or two
- 40:10Speaker 4: as well. These aren't things that make you famous and rich,
- 40:14Speaker 4: but they're things that if you met a puppy director
- 40:18Speaker 4: that's like, Mr. Jones, I'd really like to have you
- 40:19Speaker 4: in my thing. And you see his other work and
- 40:21Speaker 4: you're like, oh, he's got some promise. Let's help the
- 40:23Speaker 4: kid along. Yeah.
- 40:25Speaker 11: It's cool.
- 40:25Speaker 4: I'll be in his thing.
- 40:26Speaker 9: Yeah, not everybody still does that.
- 40:28Speaker 4: Well, yeah.
- 40:28Speaker 12: That's awesome.
- 40:29Speaker 4: Of course, so it's all good. You know, and they do,
- 40:33Speaker 4: I don't do it for free anymore. That's the one,
- 40:35Speaker 4: that is one thing I can't do anymore is when
- 40:37Speaker 4: I feel myself being, giving it away for something that
- 40:42Speaker 4: doesn't make you famous or rich, it's like, well, well,
- 40:45Speaker 4: then my time maybe, maybe I think my time is
- 40:47Speaker 4: worth it.
- 40:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 40:48Speaker 4: Especially looking at your list.
- 40:50Speaker 9: You're putting off a lot of real work.
- 40:53Speaker 4: Yeah. You'd have to clear the calendar for these people.
- 40:56Speaker 4: It's understandable.
- 40:59Speaker 11: It's a profession.
- 41:00Speaker 4: There you go.
- 41:02Speaker 9: Right.
- 41:02Speaker 4: It's what I do for a living.
- 41:03Speaker 8: Exactly.
- 41:04Speaker 4: It's like asking a plumber to come fix your toilet
- 41:06Speaker 4: just because it would be good exposure for him.
- 41:09Speaker 9: I don't think that works.
- 41:10Speaker 4: Maybe your toilet's not better than anybody else's.
- 41:12Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 41:12Speaker 12: Is that a pun?
- 41:13Speaker 4: Is that a good exposure?
- 41:18Speaker 12: A good toilet reference.
- 41:19Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 41:20Speaker 8: Yes.
- 41:21Speaker 7: Since it's the first time I met, you can ask
- 41:22Speaker 7: you what your favorite movie that you've been in is.
- 41:26Speaker 9: Yes.
- 41:26Speaker 18: Yes.
- 41:26Speaker 4: My favorite movie I've ever been in, it would be
- 41:29Speaker 4: Pan's Labyrinth because of the piece of art that it is. Uh,
- 41:33Speaker 4: it is the most, it is the most like a
- 41:37Speaker 4: classic painting that I've ever been able to play in. Um, uh,
- 41:41Speaker 4: six Oscar nominations proved me right. Okay. And, uh, um, and,
- 41:46Speaker 4: and getting to play two characters in it. Um, of
- 41:48Speaker 4: course the fawn was my, was my main concern and he's,
- 41:51Speaker 4: he's become my, one of my handful of favorite characters
- 41:54Speaker 4: I've ever played because, uh, of his ambiguity. He didn't
- 41:57Speaker 4: know if he was good or bad. And, and yet
- 42:00Speaker 4: by the end you find that he really is good
- 42:01Speaker 4: and he was helping little Ophelia find her way. And, uh,
- 42:06Speaker 4: And I love the construction of that character that Guillermo
- 42:11Speaker 4: wrote into him. And one little fun fact about Pan's
- 42:15Speaker 4: Labyrinth is that every time you see me as the faun,
- 42:18Speaker 4: I'm aging backwards. When you meet me at the beginning
- 42:21Speaker 4: of the film, I'm a little bit older, rickety, more
- 42:23Speaker 4: gray in color. Eyes are more foggy like I have
- 42:26Speaker 4: cataracts or something as you every time you see me.
- 42:29Speaker 4: Those are clearing up. Color's coming back. My horns are
- 42:32Speaker 4: growing all the way out. I'm getting more auburn in
- 42:36Speaker 4: color and getting more fluid in motion. So that had
- 42:39Speaker 4: to be very well constructed. As a performance, I had
- 42:42Speaker 4: to pay more attention to that character than anything I've
- 42:44Speaker 4: ever done. I also was speaking Spanish. Reams of Spanish
- 42:48Speaker 4: dialogue after being put into a five-hour makeup application.
- 42:52Speaker 6: Right.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Hugest job of my life as far as what it
- 42:54Speaker 4: demanded of me.
- 42:56Speaker 1: You don't speak Spanish.
- 42:56Speaker 4: That's what I was going to say.
- 42:58Speaker 9: Did you know Spanish before you met him?
- 42:59Speaker 4: I learned Spanish of the film. I'd taken two years
- 43:02Speaker 4: of it in high school, but of course that's all gone.
- 43:04Speaker 11: I can speak Spanish, but every other word is motherfucker.
- 43:07Speaker 4: I learned it all from my man. If I do
- 43:09Speaker 4: Guillermo del Toro Spanish, yes, it's all sprinkled with the
- 43:13Speaker 4: F word. But yeah, so I think just coming out
- 43:17Speaker 4: of Pan's Labyrinth, feeling like, okay, now I can pat
- 43:21Speaker 4: myself on the back for something I thought was impossible.
- 43:24Speaker 4: You know, that was another reason it's a favorite. And
- 43:27Speaker 4: the afterlife that it's had also makes it a favorite
- 43:29Speaker 4: in that that is the one movie that people have
- 43:32Speaker 4: the most emotional reaction to when I tell them I
- 43:35Speaker 4: was in it. That and Hocus Pocus.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Right.
- 43:38Speaker 4: Because you kids grew up with Hocus Pocus. That's very true.
- 43:41Speaker 7: That's the first role I've seen you in, definitely.
- 43:43Speaker 4: Right, right, exactly. I get that a lot. I also
- 43:45Speaker 4: get lots of people telling me that Billy Butcherson was
- 43:47Speaker 4: their first screen crush.
- 43:49Speaker 11: Yeah, right.
- 43:50Speaker 4: And I informed them, Denley, you know you're a necrophiliac, right?
- 43:55Speaker 6: And?
- 43:56Speaker 4: Your point.
- 43:57Speaker 11: Let me show you my other screen crush.
- 43:59Speaker 4: I was a hot zombie before zombies were the thing, see? So, yeah. Yeah,
- 44:04Speaker 4: so in Hocus Pocus. But Pan's Labyrinth would be, you know...
- 44:09Speaker 4: the emotional piece that means something to people, that they
- 44:12Speaker 4: learn something about themselves from watching or whatever. It's got
- 44:16Speaker 4: a long shelf life.
- 44:17Speaker 11: Yeah, it gets carried on because we just, one of
- 44:19Speaker 11: the last episodes we did was at an.
- 44:21Speaker 4: Art gallery here in town.
- 44:22Speaker 11: And the artist, Brian, is like a big fan of
- 44:25Speaker 11: movies and has all these. And one of the main
- 44:28Speaker 11: ones sitting over there is both versions of you which
- 44:31Speaker 11: I think he posted it.
- 44:31Speaker 9: I think he showed you a picture.
- 44:33Speaker 11: Of it and you guys were talking about it, but
- 44:34Speaker 11: it's both versions of you that he's done.
- 44:36Speaker 9: It's just this beautiful painting.
- 44:37Speaker 12: That he did.
- 44:38Speaker 4: And the pale man, one of them as well, the
- 44:40Speaker 4: guy with the eyes in his face.
- 44:41Speaker 9: Yeah, he's got that.
- 44:42Speaker 11: And then the fawn is below him. Yeah, and it's
- 44:45Speaker 11: a great painting and it's like it's one of those
- 44:47Speaker 11: you can tell, you know, it meant something to him,
- 44:50Speaker 11: that movie.
- 44:51Speaker 9: And he's carrying it on.
- 44:52Speaker 11: In his art form now. So I think it does, yeah,
- 44:54Speaker 11: it does sort of resonate with people.
- 44:56Speaker 4: That's amazing, yeah. By the way, you just mentioned Slender Man.
- 45:01Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 45:01Speaker 8: Well, what's the character?
- 45:03Speaker 4: The Pale Man.
- 45:03Speaker 8: Pale Man, I'm sorry.
- 45:04Speaker 4: But since you mentioned Slender Man.
- 45:06Speaker 9: Yeah, that's been in the works.
- 45:07Speaker 12: For a while.
- 45:08Speaker 9: Or rumored.
- 45:09Speaker 4: Are you going to tell them? Well, I was going
- 45:13Speaker 4: to tell you, I played a character inspired by Slender Man,
- 45:15Speaker 4: looks much like him, called The Operator, in a movie
- 45:19Speaker 4: called Always Watching. Came out yesterday on the DVD. It's
- 45:22Speaker 4: been on Video On Demand for a couple months now.
- 45:24Speaker 4: It had a theatrical run in 10 cities for about
- 45:27Speaker 4: a week.
- 45:28Speaker 11: And.
- 45:29Speaker 4: But it's out on DVD as of yesterday. So it's
- 45:32Speaker 4: at your Walmart. It's at your Amazon. It's at your everywhere.
- 45:36Speaker 4: Always watching a Marble Hornets story based on Marble Hornets,
- 45:39Speaker 4: which is a web series that was inspired by Slender Man.
- 45:42Speaker 4: I had heard about this, actually.
- 45:44Speaker 9: Did they have to change the name? Is Slender Man litigious?
- 45:47Speaker 4: Didn't have to. Slender Man was created on the internet
- 45:51Speaker 4: by a guy who did this.
- 45:52Speaker 6: Right.
- 45:53Speaker 11: It seems like it's its own entity at this point.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Right.
- 45:57Speaker 4: Well, right. It seems like it might be public-ish because
- 45:59Speaker 4: it's been, his Wikipedia page has been added to by everybody.
- 46:02Speaker 4: The legend of him has grown from people adding to
- 46:05Speaker 4: it every day. Uh, But the original Photoshop images of
- 46:09Speaker 4: Slender Man were done by a guy in Florida who
- 46:12Speaker 4: kind of does have ownership of the Slender Man name.
- 46:15Speaker 4: So they did strike some kind of a deal with
- 46:18Speaker 4: him because the imagery is so close. What I look
- 46:23Speaker 4: like is very much the Slender Man image. So they
- 46:26Speaker 4: did strike a deal with him. So everyone's happy. In
- 46:31Speaker 4: the credits of the film, it does say inspired by
- 46:34Speaker 4: the Slender Man character by so-and-so.
- 46:36Speaker 12: Nice.
- 46:37Speaker 4: So we have his blessing and all that. But yeah,
- 46:41Speaker 4: there was an unfortunate incident in the news that happened
- 46:44Speaker 4: a couple years ago. regarding some little girls who did
- 46:47Speaker 4: a dastardly deed to one of their friends, uh, based
- 46:50Speaker 4: on their feelings for Slenderman and wanting to please him,
- 46:53Speaker 4: which was, which was nutty cakes.
- 46:56Speaker 11: Again, there's like every 10 years, there's a story like
- 46:58Speaker 11: that about a different character. It just, yeah.
- 47:01Speaker 4: So the one, so that's another reason why keeping some
- 47:03Speaker 4: distance from the Slenderman name in the movie is probably
- 47:06Speaker 4: smart just for now, you know, but, uh, But that,
- 47:12Speaker 4: I guess, came out yesterday. So that's the other project.
- 47:15Speaker 4: I knew there was something I told you about.
- 47:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 47:17Speaker 4: Always Watching a Marvel Hornet Story came out yesterday on DVD.
- 47:21Speaker 4: There you go.
- 47:21Speaker 1: We'll be picking that up.
- 47:23Speaker 4: There you go. It's filmed in sort of a reality,
- 47:28Speaker 4: handheld camera, found footage kind of way. But it is. harrowing.
- 47:33Speaker 4: I did watch it and it was very engaging and
- 47:35Speaker 4: it kept me going like blah blah blah and I
- 47:36Speaker 4: knew it was coming.
- 47:37Speaker 8: You know what I'm saying?
- 47:39Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:40Speaker 14: You're the villain, right?
- 47:41Speaker 4: Oh, wait, that's me.
- 47:42Speaker 1: Do you scare yourself on screen?
- 47:44Speaker 8: Well, that's me.
- 47:44Speaker 4: There's something about a pale, featureless face in the distance
- 47:49Speaker 4: behind the bushes that is really, really unsettling.
- 47:52Speaker 9: There's primal things going on there.
- 47:53Speaker 12: There's something going on there.
- 47:54Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah. So, there was love.
- 47:58Speaker 1: There was love.
- 48:00Speaker 4: So, yeah, Pan's got a Uh, also, and another favorite
- 48:05Speaker 4: film of mine where I played a human was the,
- 48:07Speaker 4: my name is Jerry. I told you about before. My
- 48:09Speaker 4: name is Jerry is a, uh, an indie film with, uh,
- 48:13Speaker 4: but with a lot of heart and a lot of
- 48:14Speaker 4: coming of middle age, kind of a storyline for the
- 48:16Speaker 4: Jerry character. Um, so there's, there's the 40 plus crowd
- 48:20Speaker 4: and there's also the 20 somethings that he connects with
- 48:22Speaker 4: to help him find himself again and, or reinvent himself. And, uh,
- 48:27Speaker 4: and then he has a, there's a father daughter relationship
- 48:29Speaker 4: that's kind of reconnected through the storyline and, It's a
- 48:33Speaker 4: very charming piece. Jerry charms me. So he's my favorite
- 48:37Speaker 4: human character I've ever played. But if you ask me
- 48:41Speaker 4: about my favorite costumed character, aside from the faun being
- 48:44Speaker 4: one of my favorites, aside from Billy Butcherson from Hocus
- 48:46Speaker 4: Pocus being one of my favorites, the Silver Surfer, also
- 48:48Speaker 4: one of my favorites. That's the most beautiful. Oh, my gosh.
- 48:53Speaker 4: You want to talk about beautiful film characters, the Silver Surfer. Well,
- 48:56Speaker 4: they put this muscle suit on me that reshaped my
- 48:58Speaker 4: body into perfection. And a mask that slipped over my
- 49:02Speaker 4: head that glued on to me. I was in it
- 49:03Speaker 4: all day. That reshaped my face into strong jawline, heavy
- 49:07Speaker 4: brow bones, handsome, handsome, strong, strong.
- 49:10Speaker 9: And shiny. And shiny.
- 49:12Speaker 7: So shiny.
- 49:12Speaker 5: Right.
- 49:13Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 49:13Speaker 4: So, I mean, like, that was the best ass I've
- 49:15Speaker 4: ever had on film ever. uh unfortunately i had to
- 49:17Speaker 4: hand it back at the end of every day you
- 49:19Speaker 4: know i know i at least let you take it
- 49:21Speaker 4: home one thing i know i'm talking about work to
- 49:23Speaker 4: the beach so yeah this is what i oh that's
- 49:25Speaker 4: mine yeah oh that's my i had a cast i
- 49:28Speaker 4: sat for a molding of that uh so uh but
- 49:32Speaker 4: but i think my favorite uh costume character then Of course,
- 49:36Speaker 4: my coach's character on Falling Skies has become very endearing
- 49:40Speaker 4: to me over these three years. But he also has
- 49:43Speaker 4: the same kind of a vibe to him that Abe Sapien.
- 49:46Speaker 4: Abe Sapien is probably my favorite costume character.
- 49:48Speaker 11: He's kind of amazing.
- 49:49Speaker 4: He's the most like me, I think.
- 49:50Speaker 9: He's another one I think that people just attach themselves to.
- 49:52Speaker 4: They do attach to emotionally, yes.
- 49:55Speaker 7: His personality actually is funny, is very similar to yours,
- 49:58Speaker 7: having just met you.
- 49:59Speaker 1: I like that.
- 50:00Speaker 4: You see it, though.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Totally, yeah.
- 50:01Speaker 4: Well, it's that thing of him being able to put
- 50:03Speaker 4: his hand up and be an empath. He can empathetically
- 50:07Speaker 4: find wherever you are and feel what you've been through,
- 50:10Speaker 4: where you're, you know, he knows things by touching. And
- 50:14Speaker 4: I'm very much a huggy, touchy person, as you know,
- 50:16Speaker 4: when you walk in the room. Never thought that.
- 50:19Speaker 12: Yes.
- 50:20Speaker 4: Somehow I can see things better when I can touch them.
- 50:22Speaker 4: So I tend to be very handsy, as Abe Sapien is.
- 50:27Speaker 4: So we connect. We get each other, Abe. Yeah.
- 50:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:31Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 50:32Speaker 11: When we were discussing the Marvel movies earlier, if this
- 50:36Speaker 11: new Fantastic Four is successful.
- 50:38Speaker 9: And they wanted to bring you back.
- 50:40Speaker 4: Oh, they're not going to bring me back. When they reboot,
- 50:42Speaker 4: they reboot. You know what I'm saying?
- 50:44Speaker 11: To me, that was the part that everybody liked in
- 50:46Speaker 11: that last scene. They had a lot of problems with
- 50:48Speaker 11: the other stuff, but I never heard anybody say.
- 50:50Speaker 4: Anything bad about some of it. You know what? Me either,
- 50:52Speaker 4: which I'm very, very tickled and complimented by, that in
- 50:55Speaker 4: the midst of bad reviews of a movie, the one
- 50:57Speaker 4: nice thing they found to talk about was this Silver
- 51:00Speaker 4: Surfer character played by Doug Jones, which I really was very, very,
- 51:03Speaker 4: very touched by, that I did not get one bad review.
- 51:06Speaker 4: I was very happy about that. That doesn't mean they're
- 51:08Speaker 4: going to bring me back. Honestly, no. He needs his
- 51:12Speaker 4: own spinoff.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Right.
- 51:13Speaker 4: And they did their casting at a middle school. These
- 51:16Speaker 4: kids are so young.
- 51:17Speaker 9: But you're silver.
- 51:19Speaker 1: They didn't get to.
- 51:20Speaker 12: I know.
- 51:20Speaker 9: That's a shiny ass.
- 51:21Speaker 11: That's all they need.
- 51:22Speaker 4: They can just put that ass back on me. They'll
- 51:24Speaker 4: cast me again.
- 51:25Speaker 9: Trust me.
- 51:25Speaker 11: You're just walking in the office wearing that.
- 51:28Speaker 4: Okay.
- 51:30Speaker 12: So, I don't know.
- 51:32Speaker 4: We'll see.
- 51:32Speaker 11: We'll start the petition right now.
- 51:34Speaker 4: We'll see what happens. I would love to play the
- 51:35Speaker 4: Silver Surfer again. And there were plans originally when I
- 51:38Speaker 4: did the sequel of the old Fantastic Four franchise. I
- 51:44Speaker 4: had a three-picture deal. So they had planned to bring
- 51:48Speaker 4: him back in his own standalone movie. But there was
- 51:52Speaker 4: like a five-year term on that three-picture deal, and that
- 51:54Speaker 4: ran out. So they're not beholden to me, nor am
- 51:58Speaker 4: I to them anymore. But if they came back asking
- 52:01Speaker 4: for me, of course I would do it, because he's beautiful,
- 52:03Speaker 4: and that would create another 8x10 on my table at
- 52:05Speaker 4: a convention, wouldn't it?
- 52:06Speaker 11: So let's do it.
- 52:08Speaker 9: Get the petition going.
- 52:09Speaker 4: That's right. Get the petition going.
- 52:14Speaker 11: All right, so we've hung out on the floor for
- 52:15Speaker 11: a while now with Doug, but we're really just getting started.
- 52:19Speaker 11: As with previous sessions with Doug, we like to hang
- 52:21Speaker 11: out and talk about a movie, and this was no exception.
- 52:24Speaker 11: But I thought since we're this far in and just
- 52:27Speaker 11: getting to the movie... well, maybe we better give that
- 52:29Speaker 11: discussion its own episode. That way we can have a
- 52:32Speaker 11: little more focus on the movie as a whole next
- 52:34Speaker 11: time around.
- 52:35Speaker 14: Plus, it will give you a chance to go watch
- 52:37Speaker 14: or re-watch the movie again.
- 52:38Speaker 11: If you want to listen and not worry about spoiling it.
- 52:41Speaker 14: And if you were paying attention earlier, you heard what
- 52:43Speaker 14: movie Doug picked.
- 52:44Speaker 11: But if not, well, get out your decoder pins, kids,
- 52:46Speaker 11: because it's time for the Secret Circle reveal of next
- 52:49Speaker 11: week's exciting movie.
- 52:50Speaker 14: Yes, as I said earlier, Doug has chosen Meet Joe Black.
- 52:53Speaker 11: Director Martin Brest's 1998 film starring Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins,
- 52:58Speaker 11: and Claire Forlani.
- 52:59Speaker 1: Yes, that.
- 53:00Speaker 9: Meet Joe Black.
- 53:02Speaker 11: So go watch it now for spoiler-free listening, because we
- 53:04Speaker 11: will be back next week with Doug Jones for a
- 53:07Speaker 11: full movie discussion. But before we totally round out this episode.
- 53:12Speaker 14: I thought we would give you not one, but two bonus.
- 53:14Speaker 11: Stories from Doug. The first I thought was a really
- 53:17Speaker 11: interesting description of just some of the grueling time spent
- 53:20Speaker 11: in his makeup and costumes once he's in character. and
- 53:22Speaker 11: just how hard it is to do even the most
- 53:24Speaker 11: simple activities. And that story rolls over into the Joan
- 53:28Speaker 11: Rivers story, which maybe you've heard him tell before. I
- 53:30Speaker 11: know he's told it a few times over the years.
- 53:32Speaker 11: But regardless, heard it or not.
- 53:35Speaker 8: It's classic.
- 53:36Speaker 11: So we'll send you off with those stories and the promise,
- 53:38Speaker 11: or threat, to be back to discuss that movie. So
- 53:40Speaker 11: watch it now if you're so inclined. Otherwise, that about
- 53:43Speaker 11: does it. We will return next time, same geek feed.
- 53:46Speaker 11: Thanks for listening.
- 53:48Speaker 7: One of my profile pictures for Facebook was you eating
- 53:51Speaker 7: in the Fauno costume.
- 53:52Speaker 4: Costume.
- 53:53Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah. That picture was made the round.
- 53:56Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 53:57Speaker 6: I had a Coca-Cola with a bendy store on it, too.
- 53:59Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 54:00Speaker 6: That was perfect. Yeah, I know the one.
- 54:02Speaker 8: Was that? No.
- 54:03Speaker 6: That wasn't staged at all?
- 54:04Speaker 12: Oh, Gads, no.
- 54:05Speaker 4: I would never have posed for that. No, when I'm
- 54:09Speaker 4: wearing that costume, I couldn't sit in a lunch break.
- 54:13Speaker 4: I didn't have a trailer to go recline in and
- 54:15Speaker 4: lay back. I was in stilt feet. There was too
- 54:21Speaker 4: much to take everything off. Trees coming out of your back.
- 54:24Speaker 4: I had these big ass horns that were heavy and
- 54:26Speaker 4: battery packs that were built into the horns that operated
- 54:29Speaker 4: the eye. No CG on my face. It was all practical, mechanical.
- 54:35Speaker 4: The ears moved. All motorized and battery.
- 54:41Speaker 6: All right. Right.
- 54:42Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 54:43Speaker 4: So, so, uh, and I, and I couldn't lean like
- 54:45Speaker 4: wide back and like, I couldn't do this at lunchtime
- 54:48Speaker 4: or on any breaks. Right. So I, they had a
- 54:50Speaker 4: built for me, a special fauno bicycle seat thing that
- 54:55Speaker 4: I had to straddle. And with a T bar that
- 54:57Speaker 4: was padded, I could lean forward on it at best. So, um,
- 55:00Speaker 4: the inside of here would, uh, took a beating because I,
- 55:04Speaker 4: that's all, all of that weight and pressure just on
- 55:06Speaker 4: two little, uh, Ah, bony, bony, bony ass, right?
- 55:10Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 55:11Speaker 6: So, uh, yeah, didn't have my surfer ass. No, I
- 55:14Speaker 6: did not.
- 55:14Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly.
- 55:15Speaker 4: So, uh, yeah.
- 55:16Speaker 6: So, so when people wanted to like, Oh, let's get
- 55:18Speaker 6: a fun picture.
- 55:19Speaker 4: It was, it was not fun for me. So that
- 55:23Speaker 4: picture was taken without my knowing it. Well, of course
- 55:25Speaker 4: I'm looking at the world like this too. I just
- 55:28Speaker 4: looked at a tear ducts and then the eyes are
- 55:30Speaker 4: built out here. So all I could see was a pinhole.
- 55:34Speaker 4: that's all I could see with no periphery so people
- 55:37Speaker 4: could have been standing just out of my view with
- 55:39Speaker 4: a camera all day and I would have it's not
- 55:42Speaker 4: chatting me and I would have never known it exactly
- 55:44Speaker 4: you know what I'm.
- 55:46Speaker 7: Talking about yeah that's I'll say the first movie that
- 55:50Speaker 7: I ever saw you in I guess was Hocus Pocus
- 55:52Speaker 7: but I definitely googled your name for the first time
- 55:54Speaker 7: whenever I saw Pan's Lab and to see that you
- 55:56Speaker 7: were both a pan man that's awesome Well.
- 56:00Speaker 6: Pan's Labyrinth was also... So iconic on imagery, you know, just, yeah.
- 56:02Speaker 4: Yeah, that was the movie that made people look me
- 56:05Speaker 4: up most. Especially because I was the only American actor
- 56:09Speaker 4: in it that spoke English as the first language. So
- 56:10Speaker 4: when the movie opened in the States, I was the
- 56:14Speaker 4: go-to guy for press, right? Right.
- 56:16Speaker 6: So I did a whistle-stop.
- 56:17Speaker 4: Tour around the country, doing, like, a screening and all
- 56:20Speaker 4: the local press in, like, in major markets around the country.
- 56:23Speaker 6: And I also did a huge press junket and a
- 56:25Speaker 6: premiere and everything.
- 56:26Speaker 4: Out in L.A., and And when we did go to
- 56:29Speaker 4: the Oscars and the Golden Globes, I was on the
- 56:30Speaker 4: red carpets talking to all the press because I was
- 56:33Speaker 4: the guy.
- 56:33Speaker 6: That had the right accent.
- 56:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 56:36Speaker 6: Did I tell you my Joan Rivers story ever about that?
- 56:39Speaker 6: I don't think so.
- 56:39Speaker 8: Okay. Yeah.
- 56:40Speaker 6: Okay. So I've been wanting to talk to Joan Rivers.
- 56:44Speaker 6: She was doing red.
- 56:44Speaker 4: Carpets all the time back in the day before her
- 56:46Speaker 4: fashion review show. It overlapped a little bit. But after
- 56:50Speaker 4: being a comedian and had to be on a TV
- 56:52Speaker 4: icon for so long that she came like a red.
- 56:54Speaker 6: Carpet interview person.
- 56:56Speaker 4: And if you got interviewed by Joan Rivers, you had
- 56:58Speaker 4: made it, right?
- 56:59Speaker 6: You were huge. So my one goal.
- 57:03Speaker 4: In this career was if I can get on either
- 57:07Speaker 4: some red carpet event that Joan Rivers is at and
- 57:09Speaker 4: be interviewed by her, I can die happy.
- 57:11Speaker 6: I'm at the Oscars 2007 with Pan's Labyrinth, right?
- 57:12Speaker 8: Okay.
- 57:16Speaker 6: So I just talked to everybody.
- 57:17Speaker 4: I mean, I just finished up with Mark McGrath from Extra.
- 57:21Speaker 13: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:22Speaker 6: And then there's Joan Rivers. And Publicist John said, Joan
- 57:25Speaker 6: would like to talk to you.
- 57:25Speaker 13: And I'm like, it's Connor.
- 57:28Speaker 6: Right?
- 57:29Speaker 8: So, right?
- 57:31Speaker 6: Right. Okay.
- 57:33Speaker 4: Now, she had been so done. I mean, hair's up
- 57:37Speaker 4: in this thing. She's got a little red fur thingy,
- 57:40Speaker 4: red and black dyed fur thingy on it. And the
- 57:43Speaker 4: face that doesn't move. You know the one.
- 57:45Speaker 6: You know the one. She made fun of that. She did, right?
- 57:48Speaker 6: I'm not saying anything she wouldn't have. So up close,
- 57:51Speaker 6: it's like it's a wonder of medical science. It just is, right?
- 57:58Speaker 13: No.
- 57:58Speaker 14: No, no.
- 57:59Speaker 6: You wanted to go boop, boop.
- 58:01Speaker 7: I'm like, ow.
- 58:03Speaker 6: Does it give? Is it bouncy? Does it chip?
- 58:06Speaker 4: So.
- 58:10Speaker 4: So she, uh, uh, we were, they were at a
- 58:13Speaker 4: commercial break and it was early in the, I got
- 58:15Speaker 4: there before most of the bigger stars on purpose so
- 58:17Speaker 4: that they would have time for me.
- 58:18Speaker 6: Cause I knew that if Tom Hanks was behind me,
- 58:19Speaker 6: nobody would want to talk to me. So, uh, so, uh, uh, she, uh, she, okay.
- 58:25Speaker 6: So she's at a commercial break and no, it's good
- 58:27Speaker 6: to me. Good thing I got here early so we
- 58:29Speaker 6: can talk to him.
- 58:29Speaker 11: God.
- 58:30Speaker 15: Yeah. Yeah.
- 58:30Speaker 6: So I feel her fur and I said, wow, that's,
- 58:32Speaker 6: that's an amazing fur. She goes, isn't this fabulous?
- 58:37Speaker 3: Yeah. Yes, it is. Wow.
- 58:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:39Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 58:39Speaker 4: So then they hand her a stack. She's got people
- 58:42Speaker 4: with her there. So they hand her a stack of cards.
- 58:45Speaker 4: So every movie being represented there has a stack of
- 58:47Speaker 4: cards with information on it. And so they hand her
- 58:49Speaker 4: the Pan's Labyrinth packet, and I'm in there. It's Doug
- 58:52Speaker 4: Jones cards and what to ask me and all that.
- 58:55Speaker 6: So we're still at commercial break, and she goes, How
- 58:59Speaker 6: do you pronounce that?
- 59:00Speaker 4: And I said, Oh, that's... a labyrinth yes no way
- 59:06Speaker 4: yeah yeah.
- 59:07Speaker 6: Right yeah so so she said labyrinth did you know
- 59:12Speaker 6: that before the movie and i said yeah yeah.
- 59:17Speaker 4: I don't know i did i did A lot of
- 59:22Speaker 4: us did.
- 59:22Speaker 6: Labyrinth. Labyrinth. So she, okay, so then we're going live.
- 59:30Speaker 6: We're on the air and she's like got the microphone.
- 59:32Speaker 6: You're talking to Doug Jones, man.
- 59:35Speaker 4: So she asked like the usual questions of like, you know,
- 59:37Speaker 4: what makes this movie the artistic thing that it is.
- 59:39Speaker 6: And so, of course, I went into all my pat
- 59:40Speaker 6: answers about Guillermo del Toro and his brilliance and, you know,
- 59:44Speaker 6: being such an honor to work with him. All the
- 59:46Speaker 6: stuff you're supposed to say.
- 59:47Speaker 4: And then her eyes kind of glazed over while she's
- 59:50Speaker 4: listening to her earpiece with another producer off-site talking to her.
- 59:54Speaker 6: That's really weird.
- 59:55Speaker 15: No, it is.

- 1:00:11Speaker 6: So I would say, oh, no.
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: Thankfully, I've never had any kind of allergic reactions or
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: chemical burns or anything from it. Any of the things
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: I've had on my face, whether it's latex foam rubber, removers,
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: or adhesives, or silicone products. When I said silicone products,
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: something happened in my psyche where I hear myself saying,
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: silicone products, and I'm looking at this face just full
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: of them. So, knee-jerk reaction, I just said, well, you
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: know what I mean. Laughter Live television worldwide, yeah.
- 1:00:47Speaker 8: No way.

- 1:00:51Speaker 6: it's too late for me, honey. Thank heaven.
- 1:00:54Speaker 11: If there's anybody you can say.
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: Right, right, right, right, right. She's the one.
