- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, everybody. Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode
- 0:14Speaker 1: of Long Story Short the podcast. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and today we are discussing Campfire Christmas, a brand new
- 0:22Speaker 1: movie from Hallmark air during Christmas in July. Fittingly, this
- 0:28Speaker 1: is a Christmas in July themed movie.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I have so many questions that have nothing to do
- 0:37Speaker 2: with the movie. When you want when? When can I
- 0:40Speaker 2: ask those? Go ahead? Ask them all? Well, okay, first
- 0:44Speaker 2: of all, did you did you watch commercials during this movie?
- 0:47Speaker 2: Or no? No Ah, forget it. Then they showed some
- 0:51Speaker 2: previews for upcoming fall movies and Christmas movies like Countdown
- 0:59Speaker 2: to Christmas Movies. Yes, no, I have I saw.
- 1:03Speaker 1: We were on vacation last week and there was no WiFi,
- 1:06Speaker 1: so we we can only watch cable, and so we
- 1:09Speaker 1: watched Hallmark movies because they were on every night, and
- 1:12Speaker 1: every movie had like a Christmas Spectacular banner, which is
- 1:16Speaker 1: Hallmark's collaboration with the Roquettes. They're leaning hard on that one.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I can tell already, but that's all I have seen.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so there was like a rocket style movie that's
- 1:28Speaker 2: coming a Christmas Spectacular. I think you might be right.
- 1:31Speaker 2: They also said there was Fall movies coming in September. Okay,
- 1:35Speaker 2: and then finally they did show previews for the Mahogany series. Yes,
- 1:42Speaker 2: and Lizo definitely is doing the voiceover for it. I'm
- 1:47Speaker 2: pretty ninety certain it's her. And those are coming out too,
- 1:52Speaker 2: and I don't have any of the dates in front
- 1:54Speaker 2: of me right now, but I was like, look at
- 1:56Speaker 2: all this content coming out, I'm excited for it.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll do a Fall Harvest preview as soon as
- 2:04Speaker 1: we have more information about that. Since we're in the
- 2:08Speaker 1: Hallmark News and Notes space.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I just have a couple Yeah, let's go.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Chestpeake Shores was kind of canceled, that was my impression,
- 2:18Speaker 1: but they've renewed it for a sixth and final season. Now,
- 2:21Speaker 1: that is not a show that we watch, but I
- 2:23Speaker 1: understand that there were some unanswered questions, so fans are
- 2:25Speaker 1: very excited that that is returning. Additionally, I have news
- 2:30Speaker 1: that Jonathan Bennett, who recently signed a multi picture deal
- 2:34Speaker 1: with Hallmark, will be both headlining and executive producing a
- 2:38Speaker 1: new movie that co stars Brook Deorce, which everybody knows
- 2:42Speaker 1: how much I love her. The movie will be called
- 2:44Speaker 1: Wedding of a Lifetime. And the information I read said
- 2:47Speaker 1: airs later this year, so it is unclear whether that
- 2:50Speaker 1: will be a Fall movie or a Christmas movie.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Interesting. I have a question though, yeah, because we haven't
- 2:57Speaker 2: talked about Paul campbell gate since so you're right, it's
- 3:02Speaker 2: been a minute. Yeah. For those who don't know, Paul
- 3:06Speaker 2: Campbell is an actor on the Hallmark Channel or an
- 3:09Speaker 2: actor in general, and he writes movies too, And he
- 3:12Speaker 2: wrote one of the summer movies, Mariah's Lighthouse. Yes, question
- 3:18Speaker 2: of Mark. I think it's what it's called. Apparently another
- 3:22Speaker 2: podcast show that reviews movies, Hallmark Movies didn't give it a
- 3:27Speaker 2: popular one, A very popular show didn't give it a
- 3:31Speaker 2: stellar review. And so Paul went on his Instagram or
- 3:36Speaker 2: TikTok or something and just laid into that podcast show
- 3:41Speaker 2: and so and has since deleted it. Yes, And I
- 3:45Speaker 2: just wondered, like, what do you think about that?
- 3:48Speaker 1: I have so many thoughts about that. This particular podcast
- 3:53Speaker 1: that he came for. They have a number of Hallmark
- 3:57Speaker 1: stars on their show. They do interview, they do collaborations,
- 4:01Speaker 1: they're very well known, they have a huge community. And
- 4:04Speaker 1: here's two things that I didn't like that he did.
- 4:06Speaker 1: One he called them my name multiple times. Actually, I
- 4:09Speaker 1: have more than two things that I didn't like. He
- 4:11Speaker 1: went so far as to say, like, would it wouldn't
- 4:13Speaker 1: it be a shame if that just went a way?
- 4:15Speaker 1: That would be okay with me. He says, like that'd
- 4:16Speaker 1: be great if it stopped existing. One of the things
- 4:18Speaker 1: I hated was he goes, these people who don't even
- 4:21Speaker 1: create anything are coming for our movies that we, as
- 4:26Speaker 1: actors and writers have created. Now, am I going to
- 4:29Speaker 1: say that podcasting is on the same level as movie making.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I'm making this from my closet in sweatpants. I have
- 4:37Speaker 1: not showered yet today. It's not the same. But to
- 4:40Speaker 1: say that they have not created anything is untrue. It
- 4:44Speaker 1: is work to create a podcast. It has worked to
- 4:46Speaker 1: produce a podcast, It has worked to edit a podcast,
- 4:48Speaker 1: It has worked to cultivate a community, all of which
- 4:50Speaker 1: this podcast has done. I didn't like that, like that
- 4:53Speaker 1: was a cheap shot. And then he said all these
- 4:56Speaker 1: actors and members of the Hallmark community come on their
- 4:58Speaker 1: show for free, And he said there's no benefit to
- 5:00Speaker 1: us to doing that, which that's not true. It's exposure.
- 5:05Speaker 1: It's the same reason you go on the tonight show.
- 5:08Speaker 1: They're not paying you to do it. You're doing it
- 5:09Speaker 1: to promote your movie, your project, and said, wouldn't it
- 5:14Speaker 1: be a shame if everyone just stopped doing that, basically
- 5:16Speaker 1: calling for his fellow Homer actors to stop promoting this podcast.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Yikes, it's so secret. We've talked about Paul Campbell here.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I really like Paul Campbell. I enjoy him as an actor,
- 5:29Speaker 2: I enjoy him as a movie writer. I think he's
- 5:33Speaker 2: quite funny and charming. But you know, people are human
- 5:38Speaker 2: and make missteps too, and I think this was a
- 5:41Speaker 2: huge misstep for him.
- 5:42Speaker 1: You pointed out when we were talking about this, we
- 5:44Speaker 1: know what it feels like for someone to come for
- 5:47Speaker 1: your work in a way that is negative, and I
- 5:49Speaker 1: can understand the very personal feelings he had about that,
- 5:53Speaker 1: that that would kind of light a fire in you.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Doesn't feel good when your work is attacked. And I
- 5:58Speaker 1: will admit that I have not listened to this episode
- 6:01Speaker 1: of this particular podcast, so I don't know if they
- 6:04Speaker 1: were especially mean or if you know, the premise of.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Their show is some of their hosts do not like
- 6:12Speaker 2: Hallmark movies and they approach it from that perspective. Okay,
- 6:16Speaker 2: put hold on just a second. First of all, I
- 6:18Speaker 2: did listen to the episode. I didn't think it was terrible.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I feel like I personally have gone in harder on
- 6:25Speaker 2: sure Mark movies. I didn't think it was terrible, So
- 6:28Speaker 2: then it made me wonder, like, oh, did they have
- 6:30Speaker 2: some sort of relationship friendship and he felt betrayed? Paul
- 6:34Speaker 2: felt betrayed by them. Fact, there's more to this than
- 6:38Speaker 2: just he was unhappy with review. Second, I think when
- 6:42Speaker 2: we started this podcast, this particular Girl's Gone Hallmark Bonus episodes,
- 6:46Speaker 2: the premise was like, yeah, I've never really watched Hallmark movies.
- 6:50Speaker 2: I don't like them. Megan is kind of a bigger fan,
- 6:54Speaker 2: and I will say like when it first started, I
- 6:56Speaker 2: think I came from the negative angle. And I feel
- 7:00Speaker 2: kind of bad for that. I really do, because I
- 7:02Speaker 2: don't want to crap on these work. Like like you
- 7:06Speaker 2: mentioned earlier, we collectively understand, like as like creators, makers, whatever,
- 7:12Speaker 2: it hurts to be criticized for things. So I feel
- 7:16Speaker 2: bad about that. But I don't think that the podcast
- 7:20Speaker 2: was being malicious, right, I don't mean spirited, No, I
- 7:26Speaker 2: don't think. I don't think it was. It was food
- 7:28Speaker 2: for thought.
- 7:29Speaker 1: For me because I've said unkind things about movies on
- 7:32Speaker 1: this podcast, and I will keep that in mind going forward.
- 7:37Speaker 1: But if we are creating a podcast and they are
- 7:41Speaker 1: creating a podcast where we review those movies, at some
- 7:44Speaker 1: point we need to say there needs to be a scale,
- 7:46Speaker 1: like some of these are not as good.
- 7:48Speaker 2: As others, yeah, exactly, and some of them are bad, right,
- 7:53Speaker 2: and some of them are bad. I was just thinking
- 7:55Speaker 2: like American Idol, Like remember like how people used to
- 7:58Speaker 2: get so mad at Simon for like not being for
- 8:01Speaker 2: being very critical. Right, yes, but there is a point
- 8:05Speaker 2: like as you need constructive criticism to get better, right,
- 8:10Speaker 2: So perhaps that podcast wasn't being constructive. People are entitled
- 8:15Speaker 2: to their opinions. But my worry is like things are
- 8:19Speaker 2: just gonna get watered down because nobody wants to hurt
- 8:21Speaker 2: anybody's feelings. Anyway, moving on, please nobody make a live
- 8:26Speaker 2: video about our podcast. I mean, please do. I'm sure
- 8:31Speaker 2: that did nothing but good things for them. Honestly, it's
- 8:36Speaker 2: just a really interesting conversation that I'm I need a
- 8:39Speaker 2: viral in whatever means necessary. Oh my god, me, I
- 8:44Speaker 2: don't know.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Switching Gears, do you have a synopsis for campfire Christmas.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I certainly do. Romance rekindles for Peyton and her closest
- 8:52Speaker 2: friends when her parents decide to host a holiday themed
- 8:56Speaker 2: reunion before selling their family owned summer camp. News and notes,
- 9:03Speaker 2: I have several, but they're mostly just background on this
- 9:08Speaker 2: movie's players. Yes, I'll start first. Tory Anderson plays Peyton.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Hallmark fans might recognize her from a movie called Love
- 9:17Speaker 2: Under the Olive Tree. Have you ever seen that? I
- 9:20Speaker 2: have not? No, I mean it was prior to us
- 9:23Speaker 2: launching this podcast. She was also in Return to Christmas
- 9:28Speaker 2: Creek on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, which I just now
- 9:31Speaker 2: lovingly call hmm, does anybody else call it that? Yes? Oh? Okay.
- 9:37Speaker 2: She has tons of other acting credits, including a short
- 9:40Speaker 2: lived series called No Tomorrow on the CW, which I
- 9:43Speaker 2: think you said you watched and liked a lot. I do.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I recommend it if you like. If you were looking
- 9:49Speaker 1: for a fun summer watch. It's only a thirteen episodes.
- 9:54Speaker 1: It's a cute show, Okay. Would I like it or no?
- 9:58Speaker 2: You might.
- 9:59Speaker 1: The premise is basically she falls in love with this
- 10:02Speaker 1: dude who believes that the end of the world is coming,
- 10:05Speaker 1: and he has this bucket list that he's trying to complete.
- 10:07Speaker 1: But it's basically just like a kind of like a
- 10:10Speaker 1: rom com with a little bit of a twist, and
- 10:12Speaker 1: her coworkers are all very amusing.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Oh okay, I'm not lost show.
- 10:16Speaker 1: It's the CW, So make of that what you will.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Jeffrey Bauer Chapman who plays Beckett. He also is in Unreal,
- 10:27Speaker 1: which a number of Hallmark movie actors have guest starring roles,
- 10:31Speaker 1: but he is not a guest starr. He has a
- 10:33Speaker 1: long running supporting actor role. He plays Jay Carter. That
- 10:36Speaker 1: is a show that we both enjoy. It is not
- 10:40Speaker 1: a Hallmark show. It is much darker than Hallmark, grittier
- 10:44Speaker 1: than Hallmark, but highly enjoyable. And as I was watching this,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I was like, he's so familiar to me. And as
- 10:51Speaker 1: soon as I saw that credit, it.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Clicked, Oh yeah, I was watching him and I was like, okay,
- 10:57Speaker 2: he's again, like so familiar, and I thought it was Unreal,
- 11:01Speaker 2: but I wasn't quite sure, so I looked them up
- 11:03Speaker 2: and sure enough it was. If you want to see
- 11:06Speaker 2: some familiar Hallmark faces, definitely watch that show. But if
- 11:10Speaker 2: you are not into sex, drugs, and rock, and roll
- 11:15Speaker 2: or that it's not for you if you think Hallmark
- 11:19Speaker 2: is too woke.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Avoid unreal, totally, totally. I have a note that I
- 11:24Speaker 1: think you're gonna like.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Okay.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Anna White is the writer of this movie. She is
- 11:30Speaker 1: a prolific TV writer, but there are a number of
- 11:33Speaker 1: movies that she has written that I think we're right
- 11:36Speaker 1: up for. Alley, do you have this note as well?
- 11:40Speaker 2: Killer, Cheer Mom, Cheercamp, Killer, and the Secret Lives of Cheerleaders?
- 11:44Speaker 2: I have exactly those screen movies written down. Two of
- 11:48Speaker 2: them starred Denise Richards as well. Wow, I didn't go
- 11:51Speaker 2: that deep. Yeah, they must be on Lifetime. I'm gonna
- 11:54Speaker 2: guess they're on Lifetime, and I think I might check
- 11:57Speaker 2: them out. It's kind of funny that one writer would
- 12:00Speaker 2: write in such a specific genre. You know, loves that
- 12:05Speaker 2: Cheerleader murders. I know, and so do I, So I do.
- 12:11Speaker 2: She also wrote Butler's in Love, which we watched earlier
- 12:14Speaker 2: this year and didn't hate. If I recall agree, I
- 12:19Speaker 2: think that's a correct assessment and Christmas CEO from last Christmas.
- 12:25Speaker 2: But I know we didn't review that movie.
- 12:28Speaker 1: No, I don't even know if it was a Hallmark movie. Oh,
- 12:33Speaker 1: it may have been on another network.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah, she read. She writes for Lifetime as well. Yeah,
- 12:38Speaker 2: a lot of TV movies and tons of Christmas movies. Yeah,
- 12:42Speaker 2: so she likes the Christmas movies and the cheercamp killer genres.
- 12:47Speaker 1: She likes to switch it up a little bit. This
- 12:51Speaker 1: was filmed on Vancouver Island, which is also the hometown
- 12:53Speaker 1: of lead Actris Tory Anderson, and the crew swept in
- 12:58Speaker 1: camping cabins on location.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Oh, that sounds terrible, like in sleeping bags. There was
- 13:03Speaker 2: a phone no of them like no, no, no, no, no.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Where was the star wagon? Why didn't they have their
- 13:09Speaker 2: own RVs? No, maybe some of them did, But there
- 13:13Speaker 2: was a Twitter photo that were like, look keeping it
- 13:16Speaker 2: real with no sleeping bag on a bunk bed messod
- 13:19Speaker 2: acting at its finest. No no, no no.
- 13:24Speaker 1: So a comment in our Facebook group led me to
- 13:26Speaker 1: the IMDb reviews because someone had watched this movie and
- 13:29Speaker 1: said this is going to bring out the woke police
- 13:32Speaker 1: in their reviews, and that made me laugh, and so
- 13:34Speaker 1: I went to the IMDb reviews and at the time
- 13:37Speaker 1: of my viewing of the reviews, I didn't see any
- 13:40Speaker 1: comments like that, which I was quite frankly surprised about.
- 13:43Speaker 2: However, there was a lot of terrible reviews of this.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Movie, and I wonder if people are now just like
- 13:49Speaker 1: cloaking their reviews and like this is a bad movie
- 13:53Speaker 1: and not coming right out and saying like I didn't
- 13:55Speaker 1: like it because it had people of color and gay
- 13:57Speaker 1: people in it. Like oh, they're like I don't want
- 13:59Speaker 1: to like dog Whistle everybody, but I'm just gonna tell
- 14:03Speaker 1: you that this is a bad movie and not tell
- 14:05Speaker 1: you why.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I'm like just gonna say it's bad acting. But one
- 14:07Speaker 2: of these reviews I took extreme issue with, and I
- 14:10Speaker 2: would like to talk about it. Oh, please go. There
- 14:14Speaker 2: are a couple of points. This is a very long review,
- 14:17Speaker 2: and let me just take apart a couple of their points.
- 14:20Speaker 2: They had like a numbered list of things that they
- 14:22Speaker 2: didn't talk about. The city.
- 14:24Speaker 1: It says, although summer could have had seasonal looking clothes
- 14:27Speaker 1: like short sleeves with Santa or shorts with snowflake prints.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Excuse me.
- 14:31Speaker 1: There is so much red and green and plaid and
- 14:34Speaker 1: sweaters in this movie that I almost felt like it
- 14:37Speaker 1: was unbelievable as a summer movie, Like there's plenty of
- 14:42Speaker 1: Christmas where now we do have the intel that it
- 14:45Speaker 1: was quite cold on Vancouver Island when this was filmed.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Is like a swap from Christmas movies being filmed in
- 14:50Speaker 1: the middle of summer where they're sweltering. So you were
- 14:53Speaker 1: not looking if there was not enough Christmas clothes for you,
- 14:56Speaker 1: if you wanted short sleeves with Santa specifically. I'm sorry,
- 14:59Speaker 1: but there was of Christmasy where.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Next it says the food and drinks wasn't even that festive.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Excuse me, there's not multiple mentions of hot chocolate. And
- 15:11Speaker 2: the opening camp dinner is a turkey freaking dinner. Yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 2: you're right, it was.
- 15:18Speaker 1: And there's like scenes there drinking out of like penguin
- 15:22Speaker 1: mugs and come on, no, okay, I agree finally, but
- 15:27Speaker 1: this this person is not watching because it says, why
- 15:31Speaker 1: did her parents get on her for not having more
- 15:33Speaker 1: Christmas decors? It was July and unrelated to anything camp wise, No, sir,
- 15:38Speaker 1: it was not.
- 15:39Speaker 2: It was Christmas time. It was actually that was actual
- 15:43Speaker 2: Christmas and her parents came to visit her during actual Christmas.
- 15:47Speaker 2: You were not paying attention to the timeline. She explains
- 15:50Speaker 2: all that Toemona and her boss at work. So Yeah,
- 15:53Speaker 2: they were not paying attention. They just want to complain. No,
- 15:55Speaker 2: I watched this with a second screen in my hand.
- 15:58Speaker 2: So if I knew that this IMDb reviewer dude who
- 16:02Speaker 2: wrote this detailed review should have known that. Yeah, and
- 16:06Speaker 2: now I am done. How are you ready for first impressions? Sure?
- 16:11Speaker 2: I want to go to this camp. Oh my Okay,
- 16:15Speaker 2: I have I have a reasoning behind it. Do you
- 16:18Speaker 2: want me to give you the reasoning? Okay, So we
- 16:21Speaker 2: have talked many times on our other podcast that you know,
- 16:24Speaker 2: the holiday season for me is overwhelming, and that's because
- 16:27Speaker 2: there's all these obligations to do these Christmasy things on
- 16:31Speaker 2: top of everyday life. Right. But I would one hundred
- 16:34Speaker 2: percent dive all into a week of doing fun Christmas
- 16:37Speaker 2: things without any other distractions. I just you would find
- 16:41Speaker 2: me in that art studio doing crafts all day long.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't also have to run to the grocery
- 16:46Speaker 1: store and make sure your kid has all the stuff
- 16:48Speaker 1: for their giant project that they're doing and.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Make the dinner room. Yeah, like you know, everything that's
- 16:58Speaker 2: on top of like now have to make it the
- 17:00Speaker 2: most wonderful time of the year. So, like, I just
- 17:03Speaker 2: think it would be super fun to do all that stuff.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Great point, my ptrician, And it is not the dig
- 17:10Speaker 2: that it sounds like. Is. I think I'm good with
- 17:13Speaker 2: just one Christmas in July movie. Oh and I think
- 17:17Speaker 2: you've only watched one. No, we've only reviewed one.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I bet I mean Christmas in July themed movie. Okay,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I've watched a lot of Christmas in July movies, but
- 17:28Speaker 1: in terms of Christmas in July themed movies, I think
- 17:30Speaker 1: we could be one and done. That's not a negative.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I'm not saying anything negative about this movie. I'm not
- 17:36Speaker 1: sure I need more, It's all I'm saying.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Okay, Oh right, I can do it. Okay, what did
- 17:42Speaker 2: you like about this movie? Well? I think it might
- 17:44Speaker 2: be completely counter to just what you said, but I
- 17:48Speaker 2: liked the concept of this movie. It may be clear
- 17:53Speaker 2: that I liked the concept of this movie as well.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I'm just not sure how many different ways we can
- 18:00Speaker 2: approach Christmas in July. I enjoyed this movie overall. Spoiler alert.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I just think maybe we've done it. This this, they
- 18:07Speaker 2: they've done it. We're good. This was it? Huh Yeah? Yeah,
- 18:11Speaker 2: Like I can get behind a Christmas in July themed
- 18:14Speaker 2: movie During the summer, like it worked for me. But
- 18:17Speaker 2: I hear, I hear what you're saying, Like, how else
- 18:20Speaker 2: are you going to I'm having a Christmas in July
- 18:24Speaker 2: party and then have a movie around that. Yeah, like
- 18:27Speaker 2: it's it's just yeah, it's difficult. I just like the
- 18:30Speaker 2: concept of it. I too, And I think that might
- 18:34Speaker 2: be against what like some people would be upset because
- 18:39Speaker 2: they want like a true Christmas movie set in December.
- 18:45Speaker 2: There's movies for them. Yeah, I know, but I I
- 18:51Speaker 2: enjoyed it. I like, I like the concept of it.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I hate to be a broken record, but I really
- 18:55Speaker 1: like Tory Anderson and I love her hair.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Oh me too, me too, you know, I thought her
- 19:02Speaker 2: hair it reminded me. I know, I talked about it
- 19:04Speaker 2: in a recent movie. There was somebody who had just
- 19:07Speaker 2: like the nineties spiral perm of my dreams. I can't
- 19:10Speaker 2: remember what movie. Oh it was Two Tickets to Paradise, Yes,
- 19:14Speaker 2: and her hair had a similar kind of like nineties
- 19:17Speaker 2: perm vibe that I was into.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Yeah, her what it's worth. I think those are her curls,
- 19:21Speaker 1: because that's what her hair looks like in No Tomorrow
- 19:23Speaker 1: as well, which is at six or seven years old.
- 19:25Speaker 1: So I just I think she's got great hair.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Yeah. I really enjoyed her a lot too. I thought
- 19:32Speaker 2: she was a great actor me too. She didn't have
- 19:35Speaker 2: to like be over the top or over acting anything
- 19:40Speaker 2: in particular. I would really like to see her in
- 19:43Speaker 2: more things. I liked the flashback scenes for context. Are
- 19:47Speaker 2: you reading my notes? Okay? Go ahead? I just I
- 19:54Speaker 2: thought they cast the younger versions of these characters so well.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I thought it made the movie so much more complete.
- 20:01Speaker 1: They could have said, like, we all met at this
- 20:02Speaker 1: camp and then that's all we ever know, and they
- 20:04Speaker 1: like tell stories about then, but they did such a
- 20:09Speaker 1: great job of bringing it to life and making me
- 20:11Speaker 1: care about them over a long period of time.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I agree. I thought the young actors are great, especially
- 20:17Speaker 2: the girl who plays young Peyton and her name is
- 20:19Speaker 2: Caris Cameron. She was also in an episode of Unreal
- 20:23Speaker 2: which is fun only one episode. And she was also
- 20:27Speaker 2: in BH nine oh two to one oh, which was
- 20:29Speaker 2: like the reboot of the original show but was a
- 20:32Speaker 2: little more meta. Yea from twenty nineteen she played She
- 20:36Speaker 2: played Kyler Norris, which I don't remember this character at all.
- 20:41Speaker 2: This was the reboot with the original cast that she
- 20:44Speaker 2: was yes, yes, exactly. I actually really liked that shoe.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Me too. I liked it too. And when I was
- 20:49Speaker 2: ready my notes, I was like, do I need to
- 20:50Speaker 2: go back and watch that? Because I only watched it,
- 20:53Speaker 2: watched it the one season that it was on, like
- 20:55Speaker 2: in real time. Anyway, the flashback scenes as well. I
- 21:01Speaker 2: thought it was really well done. Jeffrey Bauer Chapman Boy
- 21:07Speaker 2: or Chapman. He was a freaking highlight for me in
- 21:09Speaker 2: this movie. I paid attention in every scene he was
- 21:13Speaker 2: in because I wondered if he had libbed. I don't know.
- 21:18Speaker 2: He just was so good at his lines and his character.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I just I loved him so much. And when he
- 21:24Speaker 2: got off that when he pulls up to the camp
- 21:26Speaker 2: and his car service, he's carrying a Louis Baton bag.
- 21:30Speaker 2: He was all and it was so funny. I just
- 21:33Speaker 2: thought he was great. I loved him. I loved his
- 21:37Speaker 2: rivalry with his old camp mate, but then turned out
- 21:41Speaker 2: that they had a thing for each other. I just
- 21:43Speaker 2: liked it. I liked it a lot.
- 21:44Speaker 1: One percent agree he stole the scenes that he was in.
- 21:47Speaker 1: And speaking of Beckett and Chris and Peyton and Thomas,
- 21:52Speaker 1: I like this movie had so many kisses.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Oh yeah, throughout right.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Yes, both Beckett and Chris and Peyton and Thomas have
- 22:00Speaker 1: multiple by which I mean too, but that's multiple kissing scenes.
- 22:04Speaker 1: They didn't make us wait till the end. I like
- 22:06Speaker 1: these dual romances side by side and multiple kisses hereful.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Well, it's funny that you mentioned that because I had
- 22:15Speaker 2: read this article and it was an interview with the
- 22:17Speaker 2: guy the married couple that it was the dude an.
- 22:20Speaker 2: He's name is Matt Hamilton, Okay, Matt Hamilton. It was
- 22:23Speaker 2: a interview with him and he said like, oh, it's
- 22:25Speaker 2: an ensemble cast. And I obviously read this article after
- 22:29Speaker 2: I watched the movie, and I was like, oh, was
- 22:32Speaker 2: this an ensemble cast? Because in my mind it was
- 22:35Speaker 2: like Tory Anderson and Corb and Blue were the leads
- 22:40Speaker 2: and then they had the other side stories. You know,
- 22:43Speaker 2: what do you think?
- 22:46Speaker 1: I think I could be convinced to believe it either way.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I don't think Dave and Janis get equal screen time
- 22:53Speaker 1: with Beckett and Chris and Peyton and Thomas. But I
- 22:57Speaker 1: do think a case could be made for the Best
- 23:00Speaker 1: in Chris relationship because I do think that's really well
- 23:03Speaker 1: developed alongside Peyton and Thomas rekindling their romance.
- 23:07Speaker 2: I do think the supporting.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Actors have a bigger role than just like fun best friend.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Mm hmm, yeah, so maybe more of an ensemble than
- 23:16Speaker 1: your classic romance homemark movie, Gotcha.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I liked how they jumped ahead like that. They did
- 23:25Speaker 2: the timing well in this.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Movie, right, I just needed the writing to be a
- 23:28Speaker 1: little bit bigger. Oh so I would put like six
- 23:31Speaker 1: months later in white writing, like, oh, I'm like, put
- 23:34Speaker 1: it across the entire screen.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd be like in the like top right hand corner. Ok. Yeah,
- 23:39Speaker 2: make it more obvious. Your demo's old were watching it
- 23:43Speaker 2: with captions on. I did watch it with captions. I
- 23:48Speaker 2: watched everything with captions. I can't understand anybody anymore. Ah, God,
- 23:55Speaker 2: what's happening to us? Hey? I really like that she
- 23:57Speaker 2: quit her job with Mona. Oh gosh, I has an
- 24:00Speaker 2: to say about that next? Oh as well? Yeah, okay, cool, cool, cool,
- 24:04Speaker 2: And that's all I have about what I liked about
- 24:06Speaker 2: this movie.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Well, to your point of liking that she quit her job,
- 24:10Speaker 1: I loved that moment she's like, I can't work for you, goodbye.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Love that. Thank you for claiming your life. My wish
- 24:16Speaker 2: was that.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Mona wasn't such a bitch tanking Peyton's career and suggesting
- 24:19Speaker 1: that someone else should write this clearly very personal story
- 24:22Speaker 1: for her.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Agree. Like I agree, her job is her assistant, is
- 24:27Speaker 2: not to come up with story ideas for someone else
- 24:29Speaker 2: to then execute. No, Mona, you suck. And then we
- 24:32Speaker 2: get the feedback that like.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Mona was only doing that because she didn't want to
- 24:36Speaker 1: lose her as an assistant. But there's no like, please
- 24:39Speaker 1: come back, We'll make it better for you.
- 24:41Speaker 2: I mean, I didn't want her to go back there,
- 24:44Speaker 2: but I wanted that moment for her a little bit. Okay,
- 24:47Speaker 2: but here's Devil's advocate too. If you want to write
- 24:50Speaker 2: a book, you don't need to be an assistant at
- 24:52Speaker 2: a publishing house, right, Like anybody can write a book
- 24:55Speaker 2: from their kitchen table. Agree.
- 24:57Speaker 1: But I think maybe that gave her like the end
- 24:59Speaker 1: to put it in front of, you know, the publisher
- 25:01Speaker 1: or the editor, because I think that's challenging to get sure. Yes, probably,
- 25:07Speaker 1: but I just feel like she didn't have to.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Stay keeping a job that she hated, you know, right, Yeah,
- 25:18Speaker 2: So I was That's what made me love that moment
- 25:21Speaker 2: was She's like, yeah, I quit goodbye because everybody wants
- 25:24Speaker 2: that moment, right, yes, yeah, do you have any wishes
- 25:29Speaker 2: a couple. While I enjoyed Tory Anderson and Corporn Blue,
- 25:33Speaker 2: I thought they were fine together. I just there wasn't
- 25:36Speaker 2: a ton of chemistry between the two of them, I thought.
- 25:40Speaker 2: But I did enjoy his proposal at the end quite
- 25:42Speaker 2: a bit. Yeah, I got like a little tearia. So
- 25:45Speaker 2: did I. So did I like spend every Christmas with
- 25:47Speaker 2: me or something like that. I was like, yeah, I'm
- 25:49Speaker 2: into that.
- 25:50Speaker 1: And all their friends are reacting so and clapping yeah.
- 25:55Speaker 2: And then I wondered, I was like, oh, did the
- 25:56Speaker 2: mom and dad not know? And I know that's such
- 25:58Speaker 2: like an old school like tradition too, Yes, but I
- 26:02Speaker 2: was like, he didn't ask them, Oh my god. And
- 26:05Speaker 2: for me, I thought the second half of this movie
- 26:07Speaker 2: dragged just a little bit, but it still kept me interested.
- 26:12Speaker 2: But the pace like really slowed down for me in
- 26:15Speaker 2: the second half. My big complaint in this department is
- 26:19Speaker 2: I didn't need the moment where Peyton walked away after
- 26:26Speaker 2: hearing Thomas say like, long distance isn't gonna work. Like
- 26:29Speaker 2: I knew that there was another part of that statement.
- 26:33Speaker 2: And my least favorite trope is the misunderstanding trope. And
- 26:39Speaker 2: if the idea is like, we're adults here, let's just
- 26:43Speaker 2: have a conversation. Yeah, for sure.
- 26:46Speaker 1: And I would have much rather have seen one of
- 26:50Speaker 1: them saying to the other, like, look, how are we
- 26:53Speaker 1: gonna do this? I think that's more interesting. Let's have
- 26:55Speaker 1: the conversation, let's not have the misunderstanding. And then she
- 26:59Speaker 1: goes into her new clothing phase and then she quits
- 27:02Speaker 1: her job. I have something to say about that, and
- 27:04Speaker 1: then we get the like.
- 27:07Speaker 2: What do you mean you still want to be with
- 27:09Speaker 2: me conversation? Not interested in that anymore? Yeah, me, neither
- 27:13Speaker 2: talk to me about the muted clothing. Well that is
- 27:16Speaker 2: in did you see that? So? Do you have anything
- 27:18Speaker 2: else you wished for? No, I'm ready to go. I
- 27:20Speaker 2: have exactly one. Did you see that? Okay?
- 27:24Speaker 1: And it is that Peyton wears red throughout this entire movie,
- 27:29Speaker 1: in every single scene.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Did you notice? I did notice she had red converse on,
- 27:34Speaker 2: but she also in the throwback flashback at our scenes too,
- 27:38Speaker 2: she was wearing red converse. I thought that was Yeah,
- 27:40Speaker 2: she wears red. There's only one scene she's not wearing
- 27:44Speaker 2: a red shirt. And in that scene where she's not
- 27:46Speaker 2: wearing a red shirt, she is wearing her red converse,
- 27:49Speaker 2: and then later on in that same outfit, she has
- 27:52Speaker 2: either a red poncho or a red jacket on. So
- 27:54Speaker 2: she wears red throughout this entire movie. She only ever
- 27:56Speaker 2: wears red at work when they're in like red and
- 27:59Speaker 2: green costume.
- 28:00Speaker 1: For the activity, She's always in red. She has red
- 28:02Speaker 1: dresses and red t shirts and red jackets, read everything.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Okay. The only time she is not wearing red is
- 28:10Speaker 2: after she quits her job and she thinks that she
- 28:14Speaker 2: and Thomas are done and she's in overalls and like
- 28:17Speaker 2: a brown T shirt. That is the only time she
- 28:20Speaker 2: doesn't want it. She has lost her Christmas sparkle. I
- 28:25Speaker 2: guess she did. I only have one. Did you see
- 28:28Speaker 2: that as well? And it's in the form of a question, Okay,
- 28:33Speaker 2: did that mom just tell her daughter to give up
- 28:36Speaker 2: her life dream and come run the family business? Does she?
- 28:40Speaker 2: At the very beginning, when they are at Peyton's apartment
- 28:43Speaker 2: during Christmas time and they are letting her know that
- 28:46Speaker 2: they are retiring, she goes, you know, you've worked for
- 28:50Speaker 2: Mona for so long and it's just not happening. Would
- 28:55Speaker 2: you want to come run the camp? And I just
- 28:57Speaker 2: was like, that's awful, And then doesn't she say no?
- 29:01Speaker 2: And she's like I had to ask, yes, are you
- 29:02Speaker 2: remembering that correctly? Yes, that's exactly what happened. Yeah, I
- 29:06Speaker 2: don't love that. I just thought, come on, yeah, support
- 29:11Speaker 2: your kids anyway. Are you ready to rate this movie? Sure?
- 29:17Speaker 2: Go ahead. I gave it three stars, as did I.
- 29:21Speaker 2: It was it was fine, fine, enjoyable. More Tory Anderson,
- 29:27Speaker 2: Please more, Jeffrey Bower Chapman. Yes.
