Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Isaiah. The president losing it on social media is not
- 0:03Speaker 1: exactly a new thing, but it also I think as
- 0:08Speaker 1: the challenges that he's facing become more and more serious,
- 0:12Speaker 1: it is an issue that the president can't seem to
- 0:16Speaker 1: keep his head on straight when we're facing a war
- 0:19Speaker 1: and economy that's unstable, and his party is facing an
- 0:22Speaker 1: election in November.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I think ultimately the reason why his numbers are so
- 0:25Speaker 2: bad is because he's not focused on anything that anybody
- 0:27Speaker 2: cares about. One of the most interesting parts of that
- 0:29Speaker 2: poll shows that he's down eight points specifically with Republican
- 0:33Speaker 2: voters when it comes to his handling on the economy.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I mean, they look around and they see the promises
- 0:37Speaker 2: that he made. He said that we'd have dollar and
- 0:39Speaker 2: something gas that never happened. He said that we would
- 0:41Speaker 2: have half of our energy bills within the first year
- 0:44Speaker 2: of him being in office. That never happened. All these
- 0:46Speaker 2: things that he promised has not happened. And so I
- 0:49Speaker 2: think people across the country are looking to say, look,
- 0:51Speaker 2: this president is not delivering. He hasn't fulfilled his promises,
- 0:55Speaker 2: and they want to see something different.
- 0:56Speaker 1: I see, that's right, Yeah, I mean on Republicans, you
- 1:00Speaker 1: point out, only thirty four percent in this Washington Post
- 1:03Speaker 1: poll say their financial situation is better now compared to
- 1:07Speaker 1: January twenty twenty five when Trump took office. Eighteen percent
- 1:12Speaker 1: say that are not as well off. Forty eight percent
- 1:14Speaker 1: say that they're about the same. Meanwhile, the president is
- 1:19Speaker 1: using social media. I'm not sure if this is like
- 1:22Speaker 1: a teenager or like he is an eighty year old man,
- 1:26Speaker 1: So maybe this is what you know, elderly people are
- 1:30Speaker 1: doing on the internet. But it's all these memes, memes
- 1:33Speaker 1: of him in the dealing with the Iran war, Guardian
- 1:37Speaker 1: of the World, all kinds of things. I mean, lydia,
- 1:41Speaker 1: I mean, what is he up, what is he doing?
- 1:43Speaker 3: Well?
- 1:43Speaker 4: He is prolific, you can give him that.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Look.
- 1:46Speaker 4: Obviously, it's going to be up to the voters to
- 1:48Speaker 4: decide in the midterms. I think that there's things he
- 1:50Speaker 4: can point to, Trump accounts, Trump bar X, but I
- 1:53Speaker 4: think it's going to come down to gas prices as well,
- 1:55Speaker 4: which have been coming down and now we're going up
- 1:59Speaker 4: a bit more more than I think he would like
- 2:01Speaker 4: to see. I think the interesting thing, though, is the
- 2:03Speaker 4: incumbent is typically challenged as he heads into the midterms,
- 2:07Speaker 4: But in this case, consider the Alternative and the Washington
- 2:10Speaker 4: Post has been reporting what Trump voters are feeling, and
- 2:14Speaker 4: they feel frustrated. But in the words of one gentleman,
- 2:17Speaker 4: he said, he's not going to vote for crazy ass Democrats.
- 2:19Speaker 4: So I think that's what it's going to come down to.
- 2:21Speaker 4: People may have frustrations that they don't feel as affordability
- 2:25Speaker 4: is as much of a focus. And yet consider the
- 2:27Speaker 4: Alternative and some of the loudest voices in the Democratic
- 2:30Speaker 4: Party now were pushing for the abolition of privac.
- 2:34Speaker 5: What Lydia Can I just say something about what Lydia
- 2:36Speaker 5: said though on the challenges, because you said that this
- 2:39Speaker 5: president is entering this midterm cycle with challenges, but a
- 2:42Speaker 5: lot of these challenges are self inflicted. I think when
- 2:45Speaker 5: it comes like he came in, he turned. He can
- 2:49Speaker 5: take credit for I think bolstering the economy and maybe
- 2:52Speaker 5: the first part of his opening year. But you look
- 2:55Speaker 5: at inflation today. I mean he was in Michigan and
- 2:58Speaker 5: before the war in Iran, gas was too ninety and
- 3:01Speaker 5: now today it is four twenty two, and that is
- 3:03Speaker 5: because of this war of choice. And then so you
- 3:06Speaker 5: look at that, you look at the price of groceries.
- 3:09Speaker 5: You look at uh, the spread of measles, you look
- 3:12Speaker 5: at a diarrhea disease, and all around the country people
- 3:16Speaker 5: are wondering, what is this president actually going to deliver?
- 3:24Speaker 5: I think that I think people want a government that
- 3:27Speaker 5: works for them. And when you can't trust what's coming
- 3:29Speaker 5: from your government, whether it comes from measles or when
- 3:33Speaker 5: it comes from not taking shots like you.
- 3:37Speaker 6: Tell me likes is causing the disease.
- 3:40Speaker 5: Well, I think that is happening under President Trump.
- 3:42Speaker 1: It's not happening under anyone else.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Look, I think that.
- 3:47Speaker 4: We're worried about millions of people crossing the border, have any.
- 3:54Speaker 2: So here's the thing. You made a statement about what's crazy.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I think what's crazy when you have the president of
- 3:58Speaker 2: the United States acting like Abes Simpson going and waving
- 4:01Speaker 2: his fist at the cloud on social media and putting
- 4:03Speaker 2: tarots on countries like Canada that we have free trade with.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Do you support the terriff?
- 4:08Speaker 4: If we want to talk about your social media presidence,
- 4:12Speaker 4: it always, it always has.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Been, do you support the terror?
- 4:16Speaker 4: It's going to be up to voters they want to
- 4:18Speaker 4: do on Canada. Why does it matter what it's up
- 4:23Speaker 4: to it's up to voters in the midterms. But I
- 4:25Speaker 4: say with the A, I think it's it's it really
- 4:27Speaker 4: triggers a lot of people, which I think frankly, he.
- 4:29Speaker 5: Likes to see you don't You're right, I.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Don't know that some people like to see him at the.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Base, the boy the base likes this.
- 4:42Speaker 2: But the question, the real question is, again, when prices
- 4:45Speaker 2: are up, why is it that this president went and
- 4:47Speaker 2: engaged in more tariffs on Canada when we already know
- 4:50Speaker 2: that has significant price pressures. Why did he do that?
- 4:52Speaker 1: Lydia Because it's alf inflected.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Look, voters are going to have to decide if they don't,
- 4:57Speaker 4: and that's for affordability. I'm not here to answer for
- 5:02Speaker 4: the answer.
- 5:04Speaker 2: And that's what's really crazy. I think that's what voters
- 5:06Speaker 2: are going to react.
- 5:07Speaker 1: It is it is also, I mean, it's a it's
- 5:09Speaker 1: a fair point that the reality of Trump's decision making
- 5:13Speaker 1: in this moment is the root of the issue. He's
- 5:17Speaker 1: lashing out at all sorts of people, reporters, he's tuning
- 5:20Speaker 1: out memes, but he refuses to stop doing the things
- 5:24Speaker 1: like tariffs, uh, like getting into a war that he
- 5:28Speaker 1: promised Americans. He wouldn't get into that are causing some
- 5:32Speaker 1: of the problems that he's dealing with right now.
- 5:34Speaker 6: I think that if the President was having this negative
- 5:36Speaker 6: impact across the entire country, then Democrats were doing a
- 5:38Speaker 6: lot better. Is the opposition party.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Every special election, when encouraged general state house district has
- 5:46Speaker 2: been one quarter a Democrat. That we're pretty successful, I would.
- 5:49Speaker 6: Say, according to the last Ruter's pull Democrats. I'm talking
- 5:53Speaker 6: about polls because we're getting closer. We're talking about we're
- 5:56Speaker 6: talking about the American Congression about as my point was,
- 5:58Speaker 6: if the president is so detriment mental to everything, I
- 6:01Speaker 6: should see the Democrats skyrocketing and all the every know we.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Talked about this last week. The recent poll showed that
- 6:09Speaker 1: Democrats have overtaken Republicans in terms of who Americans trust
- 6:12Speaker 1: to deal with the economy.
- 6:13Speaker 6: Strangely, the vaters that I've got right here doesn't say that.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Look, every not every poll is. But my point is
- 6:22Speaker 1: there are some polls showing that Trump is losing ground
- 6:25Speaker 1: on key issues, especially on the economy, which is typically
- 6:29Speaker 1: something that Republicans do well on. When you look at
- 6:31Speaker 1: his approval rating on issues from the economy to Iran
- 6:35Speaker 1: to trade to immigration. He's underwater on all of those issues.
- 6:38Speaker 6: So I should expect to see voters trusting Democrats over Republicans.
- 6:42Speaker 2: And I'm not saying that we want in Texas, why
- 6:48Speaker 2: we want in Kentucky. All across this country, voters are
- 6:51Speaker 2: choosing Democratic candidates and special elections. What are you talking about?
- 6:54Speaker 1: The President seems to be extremely fixated on this. I
- 6:58Speaker 1: mean you could argue maybe Democrats aren't paying that attention. Well,
- 7:00Speaker 1: Trump is focused. He talks about it virtually every day.
- 7:04Speaker 1: He thinks it's the number one issue, curtailing mail and voting,
- 7:07Speaker 1: changing the way states conduct their elections. Why is that
- 7:11Speaker 1: the number one issue to him and not actual policy
- 7:14Speaker 1: issues that matter to voters, like the economy, like cost
- 7:19Speaker 1: of living.
- 7:19Speaker 7: Well, I disagree with the frame of that. I think
- 7:21Speaker 7: he is concerned about all that. But I don't think
- 7:23Speaker 7: you have to go back to twenty eighteen or even
- 7:25Speaker 7: twenty twenty. I think you have to go back to
- 7:26Speaker 7: June with what we saw on the LA Mayor's race,
- 7:29Speaker 7: where Spencer Pratt was leading, and then weeks.
- 7:31Speaker 2: After they go again.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Okay, there's I know there's a lot of polling going on,
- 7:42Speaker 3: but that was a multi way race in which Spencer
- 7:45Speaker 3: Pratt was not leading.
- 7:47Speaker 1: He was actually no, no, no, let me let me just
- 7:51Speaker 1: let me just disabuse you of this notion. He was
- 7:53Speaker 1: running against two Liberals who each had a share of
- 7:57Speaker 1: the vote that, if you add them together, were greater
- 8:00Speaker 1: than his share of the vote. That is not leading.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I have a question that is not how this works?
- 8:04Speaker 1: How is it Florida in that same state, in that
- 8:08Speaker 1: same state, the Republican who was on the ballot for
- 8:11Speaker 1: governor proceeded to the runoff. So again, there is zero evidence.
- 8:16Speaker 1: There is zero evidence that anything went wrong. I can't
- 8:20Speaker 1: even believe you would raise this no evidence.
- 8:29Speaker 7: First of all, I would bring it up a wild claim.
- 8:35Speaker 2: I just want to gone to Florida.
- 8:37Speaker 7: Florida is able to count ten million ballots and get
- 8:40Speaker 7: those election results out the scene gone. There is something
- 8:47Speaker 7: about it. There are a lot of questions that other
- 8:49Speaker 7: people have. I think we I think elections should be
- 8:51Speaker 7: so transparent. No one has any question.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Now answer that question.
- 8:55Speaker 2: There's a reason for that, I think. I think I
- 8:57Speaker 2: don't know why there was nothing shady that what's going on.
- 9:01Speaker 7: That's why maybe he thinks the legal system is broken.
- 9:08Speaker 8: I think You're illustrating the party's vulnerability here to the
- 9:13Speaker 8: extent you guys are talking about, Oh, we have to
- 9:16Speaker 8: do something about all these ballots. The way that I
- 9:18Speaker 8: would talk about that if I was a national Democratic
- 9:21Speaker 8: leader is why are they afraid of the American people?
- 9:24Speaker 8: Why are they afraid of them casting their ballots? That
- 9:26Speaker 8: is what ends up happening. If Republicans keep talking about
- 9:30Speaker 8: people voting in what has become a pretty conventional way,
- 9:34Speaker 8: is something potentially dangerous.
