- 0:00First Peter chapter 2 Let us pray Jesus Christ our Lord and
- 0:10our everything. You are high and lifted up above
- 0:14every single entity. God, you are exalted above the
- 0:20universe, exalted above every single government and
- 0:24principality, every leader and king.
- 0:27You are high and exalted above emotions and feelings,
- 0:32circumstances, God, all of the issues, all of our hard times
- 0:38and persecutions. God, you are high and lifted up
- 0:41and more powerful. And you are the baseline for our
- 0:47lives. We build everything upon the
- 0:49chief cornerstone, Jesus Christ. And we'll never be put to shame.
- 0:54We'll never be dismayed, God, because we are building upon a
- 0:58firm foundation. We're building upon concrete,
- 1:03and God, I pray in the name of Jesus for a supernatural zeal to
- 1:08fill this house. God, I pray that you will speak
- 1:11boldly and mightily through me today.
- 1:15I pray, God, that your word will resound and reverberate through
- 1:19all the rafters. God, I pray that it'll go out to
- 1:22the ends of the earth. God, and for your Word to save
- 1:27many. God, I pray that people will
- 1:29place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ today, that they
- 1:33will finally admit that their way is not working and they
- 1:38desperately need a savior because they cannot save
- 1:41themselves. God, I pray in the name of
- 1:43Jesus, that you, Lord, will be well pleased and honored and
- 1:47glorified in the reading of the text today.
- 1:51God, I pray for your theology and your doctrine.
- 1:54Hide me. Hide my words, hide my thoughts.
- 1:57God, hide my motives. Father, I decrease as you
- 2:01increase. It's all about King Jesus.
- 2:03We thank you, God for your eternal words.
- 2:06We thank you God that we can house them, Lord, and that we
- 2:10can hold them and read them, Lord, and own them and hide
- 2:14them, Lord. And I pray that the word of God
- 2:17will discern us today. The Word of God will read us
- 2:21today. God, I pray that we will become
- 2:23one with you and you one with us, God.
- 2:26Know us as we try, Lord, and push and press towards knowing
- 2:32more and more and more about you, God, Heal us today.
- 2:37Heal our marriages, heal our broken bodies.
- 2:40God, bring the prodigals home today.
- 2:42God, I pray that we'll be the peacemakers of our workplaces,
- 2:46the peacemakers of our houses, the peacemakers God of every
- 2:52single place that we step foot in today.
- 2:56God, let the Holy Spirit come and fill God.
- 3:00And I pray that you will change many people's lives today and
- 3:04help them to put their faith in you.
- 3:06And it's in Jesus Christ, holy and precious and powerful name
- 3:11that I pray. Amen.
- 3:15Well, let's start in verse one. Wherefore, laying aside all
- 3:23malice and all guile and hypocrisies and envies and all
- 3:36evil speakings, these are all the things that we need to
- 3:41safeguard our hearts and our minds from friends.
- 3:44We do not need to be those that look no different than the rest
- 3:47of the world. We need to be those that season
- 3:51all of our conversation with love and grace and mercy.
- 3:55We do not need to be negative and critical.
- 3:59We do not need to be those that are breaking other people down
- 4:03and always having something smart to say towards somebody
- 4:08and trying to break others down to make ourselves feel better
- 4:11about ourselves. That is the way that the world
- 4:15works. But we are not of the world,
- 4:17friends. We're in the world, but not of
- 4:20it. We're called to a higher
- 4:22spiritual plateau than this, friends, and we need to sharpen
- 4:26ourselves. We need to discipline ourselves.
- 4:29We need to do a lot more listening than we do speaking.
- 4:33Verse 2 As newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word,
- 4:41that you may grow thereby. We always go back to the
- 4:46fundamental teachings of the Gospel.
- 4:50Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John we always go back.
- 4:53Everything from Genesis to Malachi points to those four
- 4:58books, and everything from Acts to Revelation point back to
- 5:04Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. We go back to that milk,
- 5:08friends. We go back and we nourish
- 5:11ourselves on the fundamental things that we see the entirety
- 5:15of God's Word from that point forward.
- 5:18And from that point back, we see it all as a hinge point on the
- 5:22gospel of the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ, and we hang
- 5:26on his every syllable. Verse 2 is a beautiful verse.
- 5:31Verse three. If so, be you have tasted that
- 5:36the Lord is gracious. Have you tasted and seen that
- 5:39the Lord is good? Is he just an intellectual
- 5:47knowledge for you? Is he just a get out of hell
- 5:51free card? Is he just escapism for you?
- 5:54Who is Jesus Christ to you? Have you tasted and seen that He
- 5:58is good and gracious? This is how you can know if you
- 6:05truly are His and if He truly is yours.
- 6:09You cannot just approach God from academia, friends.
- 6:13You cannot just approach God from a scholastic viewpoint.
- 6:19You must not only know Him, but be known by Him, and He will
- 6:24become precious to you. For to whom coming as unto a
- 6:33living stone disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and
- 6:40precious is he, precious to you. I pray that he is this chief
- 6:45cornerstone is precious to those that are saved and being saved,
- 6:51and it is a stumbling block in a rock of offense to anyone who
- 6:56refuses to believe in him. The most ridiculous notion that
- 7:04a Jewish man was the son of God, who was a son of a Carpenter,
- 7:11who had an Immaculate Conception of virgin birth.
- 7:16And to the world it is nonsense. To the world it doesn't make
- 7:22sense. But they will believe in all
- 7:25kinds of other ridiculous notions.
- 7:28But this is an offense to them. They are offended by people when
- 7:33they say that Jesus is the only way to the Father.
- 7:38Five. You also, as lively stones are
- 7:44built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood to OfferUp
- 7:51spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
- 7:57So you can see here that we are the temple of God, we are the
- 8:01high priest. We offer up sacrifices, which is
- 8:05our prayers and supplications unto God.
- 8:08It's laying down our lives is dying to self and you can see
- 8:12that we are those who have become the high priesthood of
- 8:20Jesus Christ and His temple. 6 Wherefore also it is contained
- 8:28in the Scripture. Behold, I lay in Zion a chief
- 8:32cornerstone elect precious, and he that believes on him shall
- 8:39not be confounded. So we can see here that God has
- 8:43established Jesus Christ forever and ever.
- 8:47And all of the people of old, all the prophets of old, all the
- 8:52people born before the cross of Christ, they longed to see the
- 8:57day. And God had a plan from the
- 8:59beginning, and he knew the proper time.
- 9:01He knew that the Pax Romana, He knew about the Greek language
- 9:07becoming the international language and the roads being
- 9:11built by the Romans. He knew the proper time for
- 9:14Jesus Christ to arrive on the scene.
- 9:17But he took care of all the righteous of old, and he saved
- 9:23them by faith. And you can see here that God
- 9:27established Jesus all the way back at the beginning, and he
- 9:31established him in Jerusalem, in Zion, which is synonymous.
- 9:38Friends, this Shalom is peace, the city of peace.
- 9:43And God has had it on his mind from the very beginning.
- 9:47And he laid the cornerstone there in that place.
- 9:51And now we as Gentiles, we are so incredibly indebted to the
- 9:57Jews and how they brought about the Messiah.
- 10:00And we will one day all stream into Jerusalem to learn more and
- 10:06more and more about this Jewish son of a Carpenter, the Son of
- 10:12God. 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the Scripture.
- 10:20Behold, I lay in Zion, a chief cornerstone elect precious.
- 10:25And he that believes on him shall not be confounded.
- 10:27Have you believed on Him? That is the crux of the
- 10:32situation. We must believe on Him.
- 10:36It's not just believing that he was a man who walked the earth,
- 10:40that he was just a religious teacher, that he was just
- 10:44another one of the prophets. No, He is the Son of God, and
- 10:48that is how we become right, and that one with God Almighty. 7
- 10:54Unto you therefore, which believe He is precious, but unto
- 10:59them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders
- 11:04disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner.
- 11:09You can see that Jesus takes His rightful place, and there are
- 11:12many who refuse to believe in him.
- 11:15You can give them all the facts, you can give them all the
- 11:18evidence, and they are hostile towards a loving God, and they
- 11:23have made their love decision for this world.
- 11:26And no matter how much evidence you bring, no matter how much of
- 11:31the plain simple truth spoke in love that you give to them, they
- 11:38will refuse to believe it. 8 And a stone of stumbling and a rock
- 11:43of offense, even to them which stumbled at the word, being
- 11:48disobedient, whereunto also they were appointed the word of God
- 11:55is an offense. Friends, we never have to
- 11:59sugarcoat things, we don't need to water down the gospel, We
- 12:03speak truth in love, and we never are afraid of offending
- 12:08someone. 9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood,
- 12:17a holy nation, a peculiar people, that you should show
- 12:22forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into
- 12:27his marvelous light. You were once in darkness, and
- 12:31then whenever you were born again, it was as if you had a
- 12:36new set of eyes and a new set of ears, and the whole world has
- 12:40looked different. It was as if you were born for
- 12:43the first time and you're finally getting to see the world
- 12:47around you the way that God does.
- 12:49You were once in darkness, you were once ignorant in your sins,
- 12:54and now God has revealed himself to you.
- 12:58What an amazing thought, friends, that we can be His
- 13:03chosen generation to shine forth His praises unto a lost and
- 13:08dying world. That we are a royal priesthood.
- 13:11Friends that He has given us the authority to be the High Priest
- 13:17of our home. We are a holy nation.
- 13:19We're set apart, friends. All of these different parts all
- 13:23working together, All of these nationalities, these, all of
- 13:27these different languages. This is a God Without Borders,
- 13:31friends. And we've all come together of
- 13:33all these different places and all these different backgrounds
- 13:38to form Christianity. What an amazing thought.
- 13:42And that we should show forth the praises of Him. 10 which in
- 13:46time passed were not a people, but are now the people of God,
- 13:50which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
- 13:54So you can see that God is calling representatives from
- 14:00every single continent, every single nation, every single
- 14:03people group, every single tribe, every single tongue,
- 14:07every single language on planet earth.
- 14:10God is calling representatives out of all of them, and we all
- 14:15form His bride. What an amazing thought.
- 14:18And He has showered us with His mercy.
- 14:20And there is nothing that you have ever done or have done or
- 14:27will do that is not under the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 14:32He shows mercy to us even though we do not even deserve it.
- 14:37And he gives us that mercy, and he showers us with that mercy.
- 14:42And blessed is the man whose sins will never be counted
- 14:46against him. 11 Dearly beloved, I beg you as strangers and
- 14:53pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the
- 15:03soul. That's what happens whenever we
- 15:06sin knowingly, when we have obtained this mercy and He's
- 15:12been so good to us, and then we squander our inheritance.
- 15:19What happens is the communication between
- 15:23headquarters gets jammed, and that is the intent of the
- 15:29adversary. He loves to jam the
- 15:32communication between you and ABBA.
- 15:36And what he does is He gets you to take your eyes off of Christ
- 15:40and put them on this world. And then we willingly, knowingly
- 15:45fall into sin and temptation. And then what happens is we sear
- 15:52our conscience and then we grieve the Holy Spirit.
- 15:59But if you have found yourself in that place today, it's not
- 16:03too late to turn away from sin, to turn away from self, to
- 16:09repent, to return back to the penthouse, return back to the
- 16:14top where you belong. Your inheritance is with Christ
- 16:19Jesus. You are in Christ Jesus.
- 16:21Make it right. Confess it before God, Receive
- 16:24your forgiveness, Forgive yourself and walk straight.
- 16:29Walk in accordance with the revealed word of God. 12 having
- 16:37your conversation honest among the Gentiles, that whereas they
- 16:45speak against you as evil doers, they may, by your good works,
- 16:52which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
- 16:59So here is an interesting passage that all the people who
- 17:02speak evil of us may be put to shame by the goodness that we
- 17:07possess, by the truth and the honesty and the integrity that
- 17:13we have as they want to break us down.
- 17:16But they can't because they see that God is with us and that we
- 17:21are becoming of the Saints and that we are actually doing the
- 17:27good in this world. And the world looks on and it
- 17:31actually brings them over into the faith by looking at men and
- 17:36women who are completely sold out to the King of Kings and the
- 17:40Lord of Lords. Who refuse to go off in the
- 17:44culture to be polluted and stained by all of the disgusting
- 17:51practices of the pagans. Where we actually practice
- 17:55integrity and do the right thing when no one else is looking.
- 18:00And all of our search engines are free and clear from the
- 18:05disgusting matter that the world looks at.
- 18:10You need to know that no matter if you're found out or not, God
- 18:14sees everything. And if we will make sure that we
- 18:19keep that in the backs of our mind is that God is watching,
- 18:24and we will give an account for every single thing that we do.
- 18:29And this day of visitation is coming upon the whole entire
- 18:32world whenever they will try to hide themselves from the face of
- 18:38God, as the sky is renned and the heavens are rent friends. 13
- 18:45Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's
- 18:49sake, whether it be to the to the king as supreme.
- 18:56So we always obey the law, we always obey those officials and
- 19:01the delegates, we always obey those that are in authority over
- 19:04us. As long as they go along with
- 19:07the word of God, we obey God over man. 14 Or unto governors,
- 19:18as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evil
- 19:22doers, and for the praise of them that do well.
- 19:26So if we will do the right thing, we do not need to fear
- 19:29the government, we do not need to fear those in authority, if
- 19:32we will just do the right thing. And God forbid the people that
- 19:37are in authority over us do not care about God.
- 19:42And God forbid we are under the leadership of inept leaders.
- 19:47And if they go against the word of God, we always side on the
- 19:55side of God, no matter what, no matter the consequences.
- 19:59Friends. 15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing you
- 20:07may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.
- 20:12That's the whole goal when we side with God over.
- 20:16These foolish men, these foolish leaders, when we side with God
- 20:20and do what God would have us to do over what the authorities are
- 20:24telling us, then it will confound them and put them to
- 20:29shame. And we pray to God that they
- 20:31will see the error of their ways and place their faith in a
- 20:36loving God. 16 As free, not using your liberty for a cloak
- 20:45of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
- 20:49There are many wolves in sheep's clothing, which is what is
- 20:53referenced here. They sure take on the title of
- 20:57pastor, they take on the title of a shepherd, but they are
- 21:03nothing more than those that have infiltrated the camps just
- 21:08to lead many astray. And God said it would be so.
- 21:16These false prophets and false teachers and this apostasy that
- 21:22has come in at a alarming rapid rate. 17 Honor all men, love the
- 21:30brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.
- 21:35You could escape a lot of hardship, you could divert a lot
- 21:43of pain and agony by honoring all men, regardless if you agree
- 21:50with them or not. They are made in the image of
- 21:53God. Love.
- 21:56The brotherhood is so much sweeter whenever we see that God
- 22:01is knitting us together as brothers and sisters in Christ
- 22:05and we honor that. We love that we celebrate God's
- 22:10bride. Fear God.
- 22:14Don't worry about man if you'll fear God.
- 22:18Everything else bows. All of the angelic host, all of
- 22:24the men and women, all of the leaders, everything bows in holy
- 22:32reverence to God and honor the King.
- 22:36We should always be respectful of those that are in leadership
- 22:40over us, unless they go against God's written word. 18 Servants,
- 22:48be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good
- 22:54and gentle, but also to the froward.
- 22:57What an amazing thought. Here, here Peter is and he is
- 23:05under much persecution as the early church was being haunted
- 23:11down and being persecuted. Here he is saying to honor the
- 23:16King. Here he is saying to do good not
- 23:20only to your masters that are loving, but also to those who
- 23:25are froward. And we would do well to make
- 23:29sure that we always try our best to do the right thing in the
- 23:39sight of God, never allowing the flesh to take over in the carnal
- 23:47impulses to take over, where we backbite and slander and gossip.
- 23:51These whisper campaigns that we go on to break down leadership.
- 23:58If you cannot agree with the person who is over you, whether
- 24:04it is your job, whether it is in any kind of business
- 24:13arrangement, if you cannot agree, it's not time for them to
- 24:18go. It is time for you to go out
- 24:21gracefully. It's time for you to start
- 24:24looking for something else and not trying to dismantle those
- 24:30things. Yes, we call them out.
- 24:32Yes we bring it all to the light.
- 24:35But just know that you need to leave that environment, not just
- 24:43sit there negatively criticizing and allowing the devil to have a
- 24:49heyday as you try to amass a following unto yourself to
- 24:53overthrow the leadership and have mutiny that is not from
- 24:57God. 19 For this is thank worthy.
- 25:07If a man for conscience toward God endured grief, suffering
- 25:12wrongfully. There is no reward in suffering
- 25:18for doing the wrong thing. You just get what you deserve.
- 25:23But if you suffer for doing the right thing, what an occasion
- 25:29for rejoicing. This is what is pleasing in the
- 25:34sight of God, if we will endure patiently in the midst of
- 25:39suffering for doing the right thing. 20 For what glory is it
- 25:45when you be buffeted for your faults?
- 25:49And then you shall take it patiently.
- 25:52But if when you do well and suffer for it, you take it
- 25:55patiently, this is acceptable with God.
- 25:59So he's saying that don't suffer for doing the wrong thing, just
- 26:06do the right thing. And if you have to suffer in
- 26:08that, do it with all patience. 21 For even hereunto were you
- 26:14called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an
- 26:19example that you should follow his steps. 22 Who did no sin,
- 26:24neither was guile found in his mouth. 23 Who when he was
- 26:29reviled, he reviled not Again, when he suffered, he threatened
- 26:34not, but committed himself to him.
- 26:36That judges righteously. So just follow the model of
- 26:40Jesus Christ. He was silent before his shears.
- 26:44We don't need to be those who are trying to stand up in the
- 26:50face of it all. We just say yes and Amen to all
- 26:54of the ways of Jesus Christ. And He modeled for us what it
- 26:59looks like to be persecuted for doing the right thing.
- 27:04And we shouldn't try to lie to get out of things.
- 27:08We shouldn't try to look like the rest of the world just to
- 27:15fit in. We shouldn't try to be lukewarm
- 27:20in the midst of persecution so that we can escape being
- 27:24persecuted. We don't need to give false
- 27:27allegiance in the face of it all to escape some kind of
- 27:33punishment. We just like Christ, We keep our
- 27:37mouths shut, we trust in God, we know that God is going to make
- 27:41everything right in the end friends and we committed all
- 27:45over to him and we just say Lord, we don't understand it,
- 27:50but yes and Amen to all of your ways. 24 Who his own self bore
- 28:03our sins, and his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to
- 28:09sins, should live unto righteousness.
- 28:13By whose stripes you were healed.
- 28:17What an amazing verse in the book of God.
- 28:19What an amazing verse that we can meditate upon, friends.
- 28:23He bore our sins in His own body so that we can have His
- 28:28righteousness imputed unto us, His Holiness and His perfection
- 28:33and His innocence for us, and we can be healed and we can be made
- 28:37whole in the sight of God for all of eternity because of what
- 28:41Jesus Christ did on the tree, which is the cross of Christ.
- 28:46We'll end on 25. For you were as sheep going
- 28:50astray, but are now returned unto the shepherd and Bishop of
- 28:55your souls. He is the Good Shepherd, He's
- 28:58the overseer of our souls. We come in to the gate to the
- 29:02sheepfold. We come in and we know that his
- 29:05rod and his staff, they comfort us.
- 29:08And though we might go to the valley of the shadow of death,
- 29:11He is there and He is with us, and He is leading us beside
- 29:16Stillwater friends. And He is peaceful and loving.
- 29:20And we enter His gates with praise and Thanksgiving,
- 29:24showering Him with 1000 hallelujahs and hosannas.
- 29:29I hope that you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 29:32Word. I know I sure have.
- 29:39I'm praying for you and I love you, and we'll see you back here
- 29:50tomorrow. God bless you.
