- 1:26You made it here under the wire sliding in Youth Baseball on a
- 1:32Tuesday night 720. First pitch.
- 1:36Who barely made it in. Barely made it in, but I'm here,
- 1:41you see. I'm Adrian.
- 1:42We're live. We only went, we only went about
- 1:4515 minutes later than we were hoping for which considering the
- 1:51late start and all that, not bad, not bad, not bad at all.
- 1:56And you know we thought about maybe moving it to Wednesday,
- 1:59but then that Give me three extra late nights and I was
- 2:04like, nah, screw that. I'm let's get these days gonna
- 2:06be late regardless. Let's just go, let's talk about
- 2:09everything college football. Let's talk about Georgia Tech
- 2:12this week. Let's talk about the cfp.
- 2:15In a little while here. Let's talk about the new Big 12
- 2:19deal, but Brian, let's let's kick it off and let's go back
- 2:21more heartbreak for the Hokies. Let's recap NC State Hokies fall
- 2:252221 on Thursday night, and it's one of those.
- 2:30Stories where it wasn't like Miami.
- 2:32It wasn't us clawing our way back. 18-point lead in the
- 2:37later, part of the third and we blow it man.
- 2:40Just brutal. I went to bed at like one
- 2:43because it took a while to come down.
- 2:46Just oh yeah. Oh yeah.
- 2:48I think it was, it was while they were reviewing.
- 2:52The Grant Wells touchdown that gave us that lead.
- 2:57I ran upstairs to get my wife, something I was like, I'm not
- 3:01trying to jinx this shit but we're up 18.
- 3:04I didn't think we'd be here. I don't know, it's essentially
- 3:08from that for I was like I don't know what to do with my hands.
- 3:11I'll do my hands. Yay and then, you know, I come
- 3:15up later. You know, it's after midnight
- 3:19she's like how he had to finish out his like it's after
- 3:21midnight. What the fuck?
- 3:22Do you think happened? What do you think happened?
- 3:23It's midnight. Well, I had a few guys in the
- 3:25neighborhood over and two of my neighbors.
- 3:28Shout out been shout out mace Eysan their Tech alums and the
- 3:33other two guys aren't and when we went up 18 one of the non
- 3:37Hokies said y'all got this in the bag 18 and been looked at
- 3:42him shadow. Look like you haven't watched us
- 3:44play this year has first time huh?
- 3:48And thus began the roll down and what and I just this year and I
- 3:52mean we've seen this movie play out for a while for the Hokies
- 3:56so mean as soon as as soon as that first touchdown, Afternoon
- 4:01with the ease that it happened. I was like oh okay for a long
- 4:06fourth quarter we are and we were win or lose is it's going
- 4:09to be way more interesting than it.
- 4:11Should be a lot more interesting.
- 4:13And and let's let's talk about this, let's talk about the
- 4:17defense because I want to give the defense I want to give them
- 4:21their Kudos first Oh, coach Compton, coach Compton.
- 4:28All right. Robbie.
- 4:29So let's talk about the defense. So for the better part of three
- 4:33quarters, they absolutely got the job done.
- 4:35They held in Sea, State, 23, points aggressive, play called
- 4:39and against NC State, they were attacking.
- 4:41It seemed like all night. We didn't fewer missed tackles
- 4:45in the first three quarters than we've seen.
- 4:49Probably the last few weeks, at least.
- 4:50Yeah. Yeah.
- 4:51For the last few weeks definitely.
- 4:52And it seems like they were It's loose.
- 4:55Yeah, right playing lose. They weren't looking at the
- 4:58scoreboard. They were just kind of attacking
- 5:00and following the game plan and playing playing like they
- 5:05belonged. Yeah I like it along and and we
- 5:10know Devin O'Leary wasn't there, we know we know it was Chambers
- 5:14in the first and then the Rook or Morris The Freshman who you
- 5:18know, who was a four-star. It's not like he was the, you
- 5:22know, the A two-star. He was a forced out of Georgia.
- 5:27He wasn't just holding down that third spotty.
- 5:29Yeah. Solid player that probably just
- 5:32maybe wasn't ready for prime time yet but you know and they
- 5:35pushed him showed up anyway, he did show up anyway in but again
- 5:40the defense those first three quarters even with Mason in
- 5:43their it they couldn't get anything established and it felt
- 5:47good. But Brian you made that point as
- 5:50it got to the end of the third and then the and then the Fourth
- 5:53of July Fell off my teen roughly.
- 5:55They had 19 points in eight minutes. 19 points in eight
- 5:58minutes and I know you got to see some of the tape.
- 6:02What do you felt like was the swing?
- 6:03Why do we quit attacking? I feel like it's a combination
- 6:08of things. You got to lead, you end up
- 6:11being a little more conservative trying to conserve you know the
- 6:14depth that we have because we have we still have debt problems
- 6:16on defense and in this game we especially Adept problems at
- 6:19corner. You know we only had really for
- 6:24cornerbacks available that are on scholarship so that kind of
- 6:28put us behind the eight ball. With how we were deploying our
- 6:32cornerbacks and, as they started taking some more shots, you
- 6:37know, that became problematic, it was like kind of your damned
- 6:40if you do. Damned if you don't, if you if
- 6:42you Blitz and you don't get there, you got tired,
- 6:45cornerbacks on Islands. If you play more conservative
- 6:48you, let them kind of take chunks down the field, a little
- 6:50bit at a time and we kind of got in a situation where we the
- 6:57snowball started and we couldn't stop it.
- 7:00Yeah. And and It sort of stinks
- 7:04because I think the reason probably went to Zone you
- 7:07mentioned it. We heard coach promising.
- 7:09And today in the pressure was the depth.
- 7:11Imani Chapman and Masson, Delaney plate.
- 7:15Every snap and we were over 76. Brian me.
- 7:18Brian. Made the point Friday when we
- 7:20were Chad and he's like, do you see the difference in the place?
- 7:24I'm like, and I looked at the wrong stats.
- 7:26I'm like, they're pretty close friend.
- 7:27He's like look. Again look again.
- 7:29They ran 76, we're in 54 and man.
- 7:33In Maine, sort of Lane and Armani were out there every
- 7:35snap. Which when you're, when you're
- 7:38down to four, we saw DJ Harvey play.
- 7:40A lot of nickel, we did not see much pre on Marie.
- 7:43So really it was only three guys.
- 7:44Getting the majority of those snaps you and him and cams out
- 7:48cam cam Johnson of us, both of them were late scraps.
- 7:53Also down strong was obviously already outfit.
- 7:56So you had three three guys, that could have helped you a
- 8:00little bit depth wise that weren't a bongo.
- 8:03Going into that game, it was absolutely gone.
- 8:06And then it was coach said it today.
- 8:09In the pressure on anybody, listen about learning how to win
- 8:12games and he says, it's something we have to do as a
- 8:14team and you know what? Before this season started we
- 8:18were roughly, I think it was one game under 500 with the class of
- 8:2218. That's that's basically a coin.
- 8:26Flip, whether you win or not and Brian.
- 8:29How did you say it on Friday about that?
- 8:33Big play down the field. I basically say this, like once
- 8:37they got that one big play down the field and then they got In
- 8:40The End Zone. It was like we remembered that
- 8:43we weren't as good as we had been playing for three quarters
- 8:46and that's that mentality that we keep hearing about learning
- 8:52how to win, learning how to To finish.
- 8:55Did you play collegiate ball? You play collegiate ball and
- 9:00your teams were good. Your own teams that competed in
- 9:02the O dat. You know trying to win that
- 9:05conference. It is something.
- 9:08Some people say it's fictitious. I don't believe that I believe
- 9:12every single sport you ever play.
- 9:14You have to learn how to win and we just that is something we
- 9:18don't have right now and it showed, maybe maybe that maybe
- 9:23the silver. In is.
- 9:25The last three weeks, it showed a little bit more, and a little
- 9:29bit more, that they were getting closer.
- 9:31It went from losing them, by two scores at Pitt.
- 9:34The one sport Miami to one-pointed NC State.
- 9:37Yeah, and it's when you talk about winning, it's, it's the
- 9:41little things. when you look at the plays that kind of build
- 9:48towards your win their points in the game, Where you going to
- 9:55point to and say? Okay, well you make you make a
- 9:57little play here. You make a little play there.
- 9:59It's a different outcome, but you see winning teams that they
- 10:02play with the different type of confidence in a different type
- 10:05of swagger than teams. Like the Hokies right now where
- 10:10when one bad thing happens, you start to see that Snowball
- 10:13Effect. You start to see doubt creeping
- 10:15in, you start to press a little bit and make mistakes that you
- 10:20wouldn't normally make and that's what we're seeing.
- 10:23A lot from this. Team is that they kind of get a
- 10:26little bit over their skis and all of a sudden snowball comes
- 10:31another, yeah, it's a snowball of thing.
- 10:33That's a thing. You talk about getting over
- 10:34their skis, they lose the technique.
- 10:38They start playing outside themselves not within
- 10:41themselves, not within the scheme and that's learned and,
- 10:45you know, we see mistakes and stuff this year, and I'm not
- 10:48calling for anybody's job this year because I've seen enough
- 10:51from each member of the coaching staff that And when they get the
- 10:55right players, when that mentality, where we talked about
- 10:57it last week, I talked about it with the more brothers who had
- 11:01the least amount of time under the old coaching staff, and they
- 11:04have looked like two of the best offensive linemen we have and
- 11:08that takes time. And obviously probably, What
- 11:11Hurts the Most is? We pumped with six minutes left
- 11:15and we never get the ball back. Yeah.
- 11:17Once I was that was the big thing with the defense.
- 11:19We just need a one stop. We got him to third down twice,
- 11:22couldn't get off the field. Couldn't finish couldn't finish
- 11:26it. Now, let's talk about the
- 11:29offense because Jesus Christ, let's talk jekyll-hyde with this
- 11:32offense. That first half.
- 11:35They knew everything we were doing, they took away the Run
- 11:37game, they took away the short passes.
- 11:41Yep. They dared us to beat them down
- 11:44field and from what I can remember in what you think, we
- 11:48really didn't try that in the first half.
- 11:50We didn't we didn't try it enough or with with enough.
- 11:54Variation. When we took the shots, it was
- 11:57kind of a little bit more calculated.
- 12:00We weren't doing it off of off of first down where maybe the
- 12:05defense wasn't expecting and as much we were doing in very
- 12:09telegraphed ways, you know, definitely third down.
- 12:13You know, we were trying to take some shots here and there when
- 12:15we had third down and long situations, but we weren't
- 12:17trying to catch them off guard or get that first first down big
- 12:22play that can kind of set your offense in.
- 12:24Ocean drum. We were very predictable and it
- 12:28showed the way they reacted. I mean, I know that's a good
- 12:30defense but we should have the first half should not have been
- 12:35as bad as it was if we could have done some things
- 12:37differently that took them off edge a little bit.
- 12:42Absolutely, it's the truth. And but but then Brian, you
- 12:46know, we talked about that. And then we see in this is the
- 12:51see, these little things. We see, we see an absolute
- 12:54Salute 180 in the adjustment and when we come out in that third
- 12:58quarter, we get the ball six plays 78 yards under two minutes
- 13:05and scored touchdown. I mean it was like that's that
- 13:10opening, third quarter Drive. I said it was the best opening
- 13:14drive. We've had to the season.
- 13:15It's probably the best offensive Drive.
- 13:18We've had all year very terms of execution in terms of keeping
- 13:23the defense off. Silence.
- 13:25It was the best drive on offense.
- 13:27We've had all year. Yeah and if you take a look at
- 13:29it, it was Wells running the ball and then he hits Daquan and
- 13:32then they Quan again, then Malachi with a good six yard
- 13:35run. And then the next thing, you
- 13:37know, it is, it's a penalty. We get down field and then we're
- 13:43inside the goal line, Grant runs it in.
- 13:46And it was like, it was nothing was huge.
- 13:52It was what? 15, 15 78 penalty.
- 13:57Get you 15 more and then you're in the it wasn't.
- 14:01You know it wasn't like the next drive that we got I mean it's if
- 14:08we got those, like intermediate chunk plays that we haven't been
- 14:12consistent enough in this offense, we need a lot more of
- 14:18those type of routes. Those type of schemes to in the
- 14:23passing game. And we need that more
- 14:25consistently because that seems to be our bread and butter.
- 14:28Whether it's Daquan whether it's working, Caleb Smith in there as
- 14:33well. We need more of that.
- 14:37We've been relying too much on kind of the short game and
- 14:42hoping that we can, you know, break a tackle or matriculate
- 14:44the ball down the field, 68 yards at a time.
- 14:49I mean, eventually we need to start getting those 15 to 20
- 14:51yard chunk plays consistently. I'm not saying we got to do what
- 14:54we did on the next drive, all the time, but let's start moving
- 14:59the ball down. Feel a little bit with a little
- 15:01bit more confidence in that intermediate game.
- 15:05And then the next Drive, I mean, home run.
- 15:09The those intermediate routes opened up, that safety didn't
- 15:13Shada Caleb side, and it was a perfect.
- 15:16I mean, that was a beautiful, beautiful deep pass because
- 15:20brand dropped it in the bucket. Caleb didn't break stride.
- 15:2480-yard touchdown. One play, One play, One, play 11
- 15:30seconds. Yeah.
- 15:33That's what he. And that's how you you take the
- 15:37momentum from the other team right there.
- 15:38I mean absolute, the one score, obviously, that changes the
- 15:41game. You get that second one.
- 15:44Now, you got to tell you on the, on their back of their heels, a
- 15:47little bit and you get it in one play there.
- 15:52So that really kind of was the first huge play that we've had
- 15:59since really Boston College in terms.
- 16:02Like really big chunk play going for a touchdown?
- 16:08Yep. Absolutely.
- 16:09And then now, the next travel is a punt by me.
- 16:12And you talked about today, how it's okay to punch sometimes,
- 16:16but how much positive yardage did you get what?
- 16:19We got 23 positive yards. So you know, they had a punt to
- 16:23us. We got the ball roughly at, let
- 16:27me do the math here, roughly it like the 25-yard line.
- 16:30We went 23. Words?
- 16:32Right? At Midfield.
- 16:33We punted they got the ball at their 20.
- 16:35Did they had a punt back? And then it was that laughs
- 16:38really. Again it was another solid
- 16:40drive, five plays 65 yards again, Grant running.
- 16:46Don't worry, we're going to talk about some of the bad stuff,
- 16:48folks. It's we've got, we're gonna lay
- 16:50into a stew, but it was like three minutes, Bam, Bam, Bam.
- 16:55Grant Wells 20 yard. Run touchdown.
- 16:59And it's and that's where you're pulling your hair out because in
- 17:02less than eight minutes we score 21 points.
- 17:05Yeah in eight minutes we scored 21 points.
- 17:08That's of the game clock. Actual clock.
- 17:11Like six minutes if Brian if we can score 6 21 points in six
- 17:17minutes every game at least once.
- 17:20Yep. What can I tell you?
- 17:21One thing here though is, yeah that this this tells you the
- 17:24importance of getting First, a first, down on your to start a
- 17:32drive because we went Tempo on most of these drives in the
- 17:38third quarter. And we really go Tempo because
- 17:40we're able to get a first down pretty quickly in the drive-by
- 17:45the second plate. Yeah the second plane those two
- 17:48drives and get up on the ball and keep them on their heels.
- 17:53It was less less. Check with me as we were.
- 17:57Going through there. So they were running quickly.
- 17:59They were sticking with the, with the original call and they
- 18:04played with as much confidence. As I've seen them play all year
- 18:09on offense. Yeah, and we saw some more
- 18:13different things on, you know, Thursday night.
- 18:16I mean I think one of the big one was just seeing Grant uses
- 18:20athleticism. You know, he has some, he can
- 18:24run the ball a little bit and there were a couple times where
- 18:26he Handed off, if he had pulled, he would have had a lot of
- 18:30daylight a lot of daylight because a couple times those
- 18:33ends and those outside backers just crashed.
- 18:36If he pulls it's a lane and there's no one on that side of
- 18:40the field. So I think that's got to be
- 18:42continued to put in. What else did you see?
- 18:46For a little new wrinkles. Yeah.
- 18:49I mean that more unbalanced lines.
- 18:52We saw that that might be something that we could catch
- 18:54them in when we were talking in the preview episode there, and
- 18:59they went that way. So it's good to see that they,
- 19:02you know, watch the Syracuse tape.
- 19:03Like I did Grant was more involved in the running game.
- 19:09So that was, that was good as well.
- 19:11He's been more involved. Week-to-week lately, various
- 19:16degrees of Effectiveness, obviously, when they've got the
- 19:18loaded, Ox lot less room for him to operate.
- 19:22We saw that kind in the first half but as we were more
- 19:25effective with other aspects of the offense, some of those
- 19:28rushing Lanes, opened up for him in the second half there and
- 19:32obviously, we've already talked about it the second half shots,
- 19:35downfield, we need more of that more consistently, you know,
- 19:39Grant throws a good deep ball especially when he's got time.
- 19:43He's connected on it on quite a few here.
- 19:46He's, he sells a couple here there.
- 19:49But when he's got time, when he's able to throw one on one,
- 19:52it's easy throws a pretty good one.
- 19:54So we need more of that. I mean, do you is that something
- 19:59you want to see early though is that something that you feel if
- 20:02we take a shot early and hit one?
- 20:05The safeties won't creep up. Linebackers won't be sticking
- 20:08their nose in the gaps. It's like we get burned deep a
- 20:11couple times. You know, you've got to change
- 20:15your philosophy up and it did kind of change their philosophy
- 20:17up. But we couldn't get anything
- 20:20done. The rest of the game we were we
- 20:22were struggling because essentially we played our, we
- 20:25played our hand, we played our trunk cards and they knew what
- 20:30we were going to do so they were able to adjust.
- 20:32So somebody could say, did you do it on?
- 20:34Could you did you what did we do it too early?
- 20:37I don't think that's, I don't think we did it too early.
- 20:40I would say, we need to be able to be good on first and second
- 20:45down, Even when we're not calling shots downfield.
- 20:51Because our problem right now is been we're very ineffective
- 20:56rushing on first down. So that puts us in a bad second
- 21:00down call that doesn't always work.
- 21:02And now we're in third and medium third and long situations
- 21:07where you know we've struggled off and on and we struggled on
- 21:10third down mightily in this game.
- 21:13Oh my god. Did we not even joke?
- 21:16How how bad 9% Yeah, we converted 9%.
- 21:22We converted 1/3 down compared to them almost converting. 45%
- 21:30that magic 40 number. Brian, like continues to float
- 21:33it out there. If we keep them 40 or under,
- 21:36we're going to win games, we're going to win games.
- 21:39And if that's and that's a simple as getting off the field
- 21:42one or two more times on third down, and we came close to or
- 21:46three times in that game to get off the field but in and it
- 21:49closed. Better clothes doesn't matter.
- 21:51You got it, done. Close doesn't matter at all and,
- 21:56you know, didn't rush the ball. Good again, you know, just one
- 22:01point nine per carry, you know, after adjustments off, 26 rushes
- 22:06and what a lot of blew up in the subsequent evening, we should
- 22:13just say, late-night hours. And the next day was what's on
- 22:17the coaches, what's on the players?
- 22:19And, you know, Let's talk about some of that, we're going to
- 22:22talk about first, the game Management on the coaches and
- 22:25the first big one. And again, I'm going to shout
- 22:27them out Mason, he sits over there on the two-point
- 22:31conversion says, why the heck are we calling a timeout?
- 22:35They're going to go for two here, to get it down to three
- 22:37points. Why do we have a called a
- 22:39timeout that? Obviously using that heard in
- 22:43the six minute drill we had one time out to burn at that point
- 22:46time if you have to maybe you do get stopped or maybe they didn't
- 22:49feel the Rings and they Kick a field goal with a minute left,
- 22:52and you still have time to operate now.
- 22:55Pride did mention today that the had the wrong Personnel on the
- 22:59field. And at that point in time, those
- 23:02two points were two important at that point.
- 23:05And I like he said, at that point in time because at that
- 23:08point in time, it was, if they don't get the two points like
- 23:12they didn't, it was still a two possession game or essentially
- 23:16it was they could not tell the vehicle, they had to score a
- 23:19touchdown. But on the other hand, this is
- 23:22something where it's like, that learning experience for the
- 23:24first time, head coach. Did you got your players out
- 23:27there? This is becoming a tight game.
- 23:29Timeouts are important, right? Yeah, yeah.
- 23:32And and that's after you probably you burned one that you
- 23:36needed to earlier. But then that meant that you
- 23:39couldn't afford to burn, another one ahead of the final drive is
- 23:43things. Got tighter timeouts, are at a
- 23:47premium, it's one of those things I know.
- 23:50Like, you know, hindsight's 20/20 is like, oh yeah, we
- 23:54should have conserved that one. Yeah and I think I think we
- 23:57should have Sometimes you I think that's where being a
- 24:05coordinator versus being a head coach.
- 24:08Kind of comes into play. I think that that's a timeout
- 24:10that a coordinator wanted to take that a head coach might
- 24:14kind of say now we're just going to let this one roll.
- 24:17We're going to we're still going to have the lead regardless what
- 24:22they do? Yeah we're going to have the
- 24:24lead if I have this in my back pocket.
- 24:29If we're driving the field and it is a one-point game and we
- 24:32need a field goal. We have two times or we can
- 24:35really attack the middle of the field and just burn the time out
- 24:39and get set up for the next play.
- 24:42And then I'll give you a chance to potentially get off the
- 24:44field, late in the game and have a chance to work in the field
- 24:46goal range. You know, whether the, you know,
- 24:49it's a You know one or two point game at that point, it doesn't
- 24:53really matter. Exactly now let me ask this and
- 24:57you said this was big on your game management pieces you said
- 25:01Brent Pride trusted his defense to win the battles when we had
- 25:05the lead instead of staying aggressive, is that going back
- 25:09to him being a coordinator again versus being a head coach?
- 25:13Where if he's the head coach and Chris Mars, the DC and Chris
- 25:17lays back that one play. He's taking his hat off and
- 25:19saying Jack. Attack.
- 25:21I don't care about this sitting attack.
- 25:23I don't care if you have to put gas who are in experiencing
- 25:25attack and we know at the end of the season, he will no longer be
- 25:31the defensive coordinator and calling the plays.
- 25:33But again, is that the coordinator hat finding its way.
- 25:36I think it's some of that I think it's you know we talked
- 25:39about it earlier with wanting to keep guys.
- 25:40Fresh. I think they he was attempting
- 25:43to kind of stem the the tide as it were with.
- 25:50We're probably are thinnest at the defensive wine and in the in
- 25:55the secondary especially at corner in this game and you know
- 25:59you take your foot off the gas a little bit.
- 26:01They're trying to kind of keep your guys fresh but now you've
- 26:04given them confidence and I think all they need it was like
- 26:06a little spark of confidence and and that kind of woke them up a
- 26:10little bit and it also reminded our guys.
- 26:13Hey you're the team rolling in here with losing record while we
- 26:18were still ranked in the top 25. And it kind of showed from there
- 26:22on out, even when Pride got more aggressive, as we kind of, went
- 26:26down the stretch there, I just think, you know, that little
- 26:31moment almost was like a switch for both teams anybody that says
- 26:35momentum is in the thing, doesn't watch college football,
- 26:40don't watch sports and watch what, what?
- 26:43Well, I don't have it on back here, but I just look, Houston
- 26:47had all the momentum after the weekend, right?
- 26:50That game got canceled. I sold last night because it
- 26:52rained in Philly, all night, Lily came out today and they're
- 26:56blowing the doors off of a 7, nothing so far, I wish I had it
- 26:59on back here so I could halfway watch the game in Philly.
- 27:01Lot was able to line up there. They're pitching, they got
- 27:04better long-term for the rest of the the series to momentum.
- 27:08All right, let's talk about quickly the offensive side of
- 27:11the ball. All right, how tough is it?
- 27:15You mentioned to me. It's like he was too late
- 27:17adjusting to the Box. How tough is it for?
- 27:19Obviously, this is the first time.
- 27:21Ordinator to make that adjustment in the Box down to
- 27:25the field. Is it too?
- 27:26Big of an adjustment? Or is it something where a more
- 27:29seasoned guy would just say, we've got to change it, I don't
- 27:31care. I would rather die by taking the
- 27:35risk. That I know if we make this
- 27:36change, we maybe can make a touchdown or we can move the
- 27:39ball. I still feel like we're not
- 27:46because we're not doing some of the the things that he wants us
- 27:50to do. Well we're not opening up the
- 27:52Playbook and for throwing in enough new elements to the
- 27:58offense week to week. And when you have a loaded box
- 28:05like that, and you're trying to your bread butter, trying to be
- 28:08all right, we're going to run it.
- 28:09We're going to have play action, and I know if you want to have
- 28:12play action, that, that you want that to be your bread and butter
- 28:14in the passing game. It's hard for that to actually
- 28:18have as much juice if you don't have some sort of semblance of a
- 28:21running game. But at some point you got to
- 28:24recognize what the strengths and weaknesses of the offense are
- 28:28and start playing towards those. And I think we're too late
- 28:31doing. At, in a lot of games.
- 28:35And that that's what we saw at this game and by the time, you
- 28:39know, we played our pivot card. They adjusted, they were able to
- 28:44fight their way back. Our defense of got gassed and
- 28:47they scraped one out there. And he never, he's never really
- 28:52gotten the offense settled after the Thomas injury in this game.
- 28:58Because if that felt like another switch the offense, we
- 29:01were kind of cooking a little bit.
- 29:04And then when Thomas went down and weekend, whatever we did,
- 29:09look like a different team out there.
- 29:10I know Thomas wasn't exactly tearing it up running the ball,
- 29:14but he had a, get a couple good grabs of the running game,
- 29:17especially that one down. The sideline were amazing.
- 29:19Grab them aside, Allison. Amazing catch.
- 29:22So he's, he gives the offense a little bit of a spark that,
- 29:27especially in this game. Didn't have Keshawn King and
- 29:30yeah, Holston coming on in the game after that, you could
- 29:33really see how that impact of the offense.
- 29:36It just looked like they kind of became a shell of what they
- 29:40showed in the third quarter. Well, it's that whole piece of
- 29:44We aren't as good as what we are.
- 29:46What we've been playing, we that that eight minutes and then
- 29:49Malachi gets hurt and it's the snap back to reality moment of
- 29:53we're not as good as what we just did.
- 29:54Those big plays those solid runs those try, Drives.
- 29:59We're not that into me. That to me that is somewhat on
- 30:02coaching. I know, it's some player
- 30:03mentality, but it's also coaches.
- 30:05Continue to chirp in your ear now.
- 30:09What's, but, it's Bowens responsibility to get some plays
- 30:12in there that. Keep your guys confident.
- 30:14That's true. That's on him now.
- 30:16Brian you got into a pretty much.
- 30:19Well, no Prime just made a defiant statement that now,
- 30:24false starts because there are some things that were on the
- 30:27players. Saturday or excuse me, Thursday
- 30:31twelve nine of ten false start penalties, 6 on the line to on
- 30:37skill positions, to on special teams Brian.
- 30:41Someone came out and said this is all bad coaching.
- 30:45And Brian, Sigler went, you went Lee Corso.
- 30:50Not so fast. So I'll preface about this.
- 30:56There are things that can be done.
- 30:59That will encourage an offensive line to try to be more cognizant
- 31:03about false starts. But a offensive lineman is not
- 31:08jumping off sides because of something.
- 31:10A coach does or does not do Point Blank, I played the
- 31:17position, I know this and the reason is and so the things that
- 31:23the things that thing that you can do as a coach is that
- 31:25obviously one of the things they are doing which is extra
- 31:30conditioning punishment. Things like that as a response
- 31:35to the offsides that occur in a game.
- 31:39Wait a second, another offensive.
- 31:40Lineman speaks up. So, so the thing, the things you
- 31:46can do is, you know, obviously what one of the things they are
- 31:49doing which is extra conditioning for 4 yards that
- 31:53you commit in penalties in a game.
- 31:55The other thing that you can do is you can lose your spot.
- 31:58The problem with losing your spot is that we don't have the
- 32:02depth to loot to have someone lose their spot.
- 32:04Right. Now, now, we're not when you
- 32:08when someone loses their spot on this offensive line and even in
- 32:11other positions in this offense, Talking about replacing them
- 32:15with a true freshman which could result in a burnt red shirt or a
- 32:19walk-on. I mean, you can now, you can all
- 32:23sorts of good stuff. We had T right here, one from
- 32:25Robbie one from the white again, Robbie, basically, priest not
- 32:30penalties. Oh probably every third Alan up
- 32:32there. Every hokey fans knows that
- 32:34tissue and it's not all coaching Robbie.
- 32:36Obviously, as a coach, there are other one about a white up.
- 32:43And we've heard this since day, one about the depth.
- 32:46We've heard it since day one and I guess I get what they're
- 32:49saying, if we had a team like you would want to have and a guy
- 32:53jumps off sides, twice in a game yank him at least for into the
- 32:59quarter and put in the other guy and see what you got.
- 33:02And if that guy's rolling, you keep him in maybe for the rest
- 33:05of the game and that and that shows that you're serious.
- 33:09But we don't have the luxury of that type of response from a
- 33:12coaching staff, Right now. So these Lyman need to take
- 33:17accountability for jumping off sides and I'll say this it
- 33:20wasn't just the Lyman Daquan jumped off.
- 33:23We had a wide receiver jump all of y'all.
- 33:25Yeah Caleb jumped off. We had three three or four that
- 33:29weren't on the offensive line so this is not just an offensive
- 33:31line problem. This, this is a concentration
- 33:34problem. This is thinking too much
- 33:36problem, this is worrying about beating your guy, instead of
- 33:39focusing on what's Happening the game problem.
- 33:43Very, very true. It's also funny put Robbie's
- 33:45quote up here again because you you said this and it's really
- 33:49funny because proc continue to say, all sides with false start
- 33:53sounds like is he talking that backwards?
- 33:55But I think that's just something common, but you
- 33:58mentioned doing when we were talking Friday.
- 34:01I put it in the I put it in the Tweet to.
- 34:03Yes you did. A lot of times, why would I get
- 34:06false starts? Because the freaking dtac on the
- 34:08front of me was feed, my ads, had my ass kicked and I'm trying
- 34:12to get a Bone, his ass display. Whether it's I'm trying to kick
- 34:17back early or whether I'm trying to get a Zone step or reach step
- 34:22or I'm trying to down block him at the right.
- 34:24I'm trying to step on my man because he's handling handed me
- 34:27my ass right now. Yep.
- 34:30All right. Couple other things.
- 34:31Brian we let's mention about on the players chance, black
- 34:35muffin, those kickoffs holy shit.
- 34:38First of all, any time a kickoff is muff, any kind of kick as
- 34:42Mufti? It's just like as a fan it's
- 34:45like, oh shit, not good, not good.
- 34:49If it's bad because it automatically takes away some of
- 34:53the potential that the plays in your playbook that you want to
- 34:57call as an offensive coordinator.
- 35:00Because now you're starting inside the 10.
- 35:03Those play calls are going to be a lot more conservative most
- 35:05time, especially for a team like this.
- 35:07That hasn't had a ton of success, which is lining up and
- 35:12doing, what they You to a defense regardless of what kind
- 35:15of looks they're getting we don't we don't have that kind of
- 35:17offense right now so now you either take the risk of taking
- 35:21shots from inside the 10 and if you don't hit it now you're
- 35:25putting to them you know in that 40 to 50 yard range or you're
- 35:29risking a safety in a tight game and things like that or you get
- 35:33more conservative till you get that first first first down or
- 35:36two and we just we never got that.
- 35:39Now we got handed a gift that we ended up giving back on the A
- 35:42couple plays on that penalty, true.
- 35:46When the late hit on Wells out of bounds, when a late hit
- 35:50necessarily but the unnecessary roughness before throwing him
- 35:53around. After, after he got it rode him
- 35:55out of bounds, Peyton Wilson had it, if he just lets him go on
- 35:58rides, it's nothing. But when he jerked, they weren't
- 36:01gonna get. He didn't initiate that action
- 36:04before he went out of bounds. So it was the steps where out
- 36:07and I think the last thing Ryan coach you prize said it.
- 36:11You said it, it's all the I think, and it's depressing is
- 36:14when you don't be, when you start pressing the techniques
- 36:17gone, you don't play Within the structure and bad things happen.
- 36:21And again, I go back to what I think about this class being
- 36:27under 500 going into this year. I don't think a lot of these
- 36:31guys who have been playing here for the last four years, guys,
- 36:35you know, you come to love. You love to see them play, you
- 36:38want to see them do well. I think that is what it is and I
- 36:42think it's literally going to take a lot of new blood to flush
- 36:46that out of the system. Well, shit, I've said it a lot
- 36:51and I know, I'm kind of reiterating some of the, a
- 36:53matter of our take it elsewhere. But, you know, we got a lot of
- 36:57veterans that have played that have been role players on this
- 37:01team that we are asking them this year because of our depth
- 37:04concerns to be the man at certain positions. and some of
- 37:10that may be beyond their skill set, And we're talking about
- 37:15spread that I'm not just at one position.
- 37:17I just said two positions but probably over about five or six
- 37:20positions. We were asking guys that are
- 37:22more veteran role players to be veteran leaders and Veteran
- 37:28standout players on this team and that works for a quarter or
- 37:31two. But we're seeing it doesn't
- 37:33always work for four quarters and two.
- 37:37That's it. And that's what we're seeing a
- 37:38lot of. So we when you see these young
- 37:41guys going out there and competing, that's a good sign
- 37:43because it shows that You know, we could have that potential
- 37:46down the road but we've got to we've got a lot of backfilling
- 37:49to do we did and it's going to take you know you here.
- 37:52Leslie is going to take the portal and cycler and the Cycles
- 37:56to backfill kind of the situation that we kind of been
- 37:59dealt with with the last you know two to three years of
- 38:01recruiting and we have roster has been managing those periods
- 38:04which was not good but you kind of started it right there but I
- 38:07think we as fans you know, everybody's pissed for two and
- 38:11six. We're I think because we're a
- 38:14little Beyond this or two in 66. I think that's being a little
- 38:18older. We start reading between the
- 38:20lines, because the record is what it is.
- 38:22We're 216, that's who we are, but if you start looking at this
- 38:26team, in the record, we have only been truly drilled once and
- 38:30that was Carolina. They were twenty-four ten and
- 38:33half. They 140. 110, we were that we
- 38:35were drilled. The game was over early, third
- 38:38quarter. It wasn't, it wasn't closed for
- 38:40a long time. Yeah, it wasn't.
- 38:42For a long time but you kind of sit back and say, Brian, you
- 38:47know, a lot of these other games, it's right there.
- 38:51And at the end, it falls apart. And in their quarters where me
- 38:57and you both say? If that team right there, third
- 39:02quarter this week, if that team right there, showed up 75% of
- 39:08the time. We would be one in 75 or 80% of
- 39:12our games like those quarter stretches.
- 39:15Now, the defense we've seen it multiple cores.
- 39:18We saw it against Miami. We saw it against State.
- 39:21We saw at the first three quarters against West Virginia.
- 39:24The defense is consistently, put two and three quarters together
- 39:27in a game. Not have necessarily played for
- 39:29yet BC for three quarters. Yeah I'll give them be safe.
- 39:33I'll give him BC. We know how bad BC is.
- 39:35So yeah but with the offense it's like one off cost.
- 39:40Hours, and when I say one-off quarters, I mean this week that
- 39:43third quarter, eight minutes, 21 points.
- 39:46Yeah, eight minutes of the game, six minutes after the session 21
- 39:49points. I ain't trying to say where I
- 39:52live but that's Alabama, shit that's Tennessee shit, that's
- 39:54Ohio, State shit, where it's like, Bam, Bam, Bam 21 points.
- 39:57Six minutes And that's how they bury it but you look at that
- 40:01game. The Miami fourth quarter feet
- 40:04early, first quarter into the second and pit where it's just
- 40:06like 14-point 17 points in, in short stretches.
- 40:11So I said here and it's like a silver lining and I say people
- 40:17are already saying Powerball and should be fired.
- 40:19No. First of all, I don't think
- 40:21anybody's getting fired. You're wondering if that's your
- 40:24go-to like who we should fire people.
- 40:28Go look at Tennessee, go look at a lot of these programs.
- 40:31It took years to cook 15 years to rebuild, where they are.
- 40:35They kept firing people over and over.
- 40:38But I look at it. You see those Silver?
- 40:39Linings And it's consistency, right?
- 40:43Brian, like, yeah. We seen flashes and it's like
- 40:46shit. And I think that goes back to
- 40:50what I was just saying earlier, is, like, you know, we're seeing
- 40:53these flashes and we're hoping that we can put some of that
- 40:56more together. When we say we're not seeing
- 41:00progress, I think we're not seeing progress because we're
- 41:01still losing losing games, but there are things here there that
- 41:07give you, you know, a little hope of what's to come.
- 41:11Now, what I want to see a lot more of is, you know, when we
- 41:14talked Back in March early, March we did the the preview the
- 41:21preview episode with Robbie, Robbie came on, he broke down,
- 41:24what we can expect, from prion, the defense, I looked at the
- 41:26offense, I looked at a lot for them tape.
- 41:29Looked at some of the Penn State stuff, things like that.
- 41:33And looking at looking at Fordham, you know, we saw some
- 41:38different things from that offense that we haven't seen yet
- 41:41in this. And I don't know if that is
- 41:46weird. Doing this.
- 41:46Well, so we haven't kind of taken the next step and put this
- 41:49part of the offense in there yet.
- 41:51I don't know whether it's that some of the, the team isn't
- 41:55comfortable with running those plays yet, hasn't shown it.
- 41:58Well enough in practice, where they're comfortable with the
- 42:01calls in the game. Whatever the reason is, I want
- 42:04to see a little bit more from this offense in terms of when
- 42:11that bread and butter isn't working early, having something
- 42:13to Pivot to having having some things that give the defense
- 42:17fits that aren't just. We're going to do we do and beat
- 42:22you that way because one of my complaints against corn corn
- 42:29corn had a bad system and was also a bad play caller.
- 42:33I still think the system was decent.
- 42:35I think he was just system is, but I'm saying in terms of how
- 42:38he operated the system with. If it's a pass play, you got to
- 42:41throw it here or then you gotta run it or eat it?
- 42:45Yeah, I don't, I don't I don't like that shit.
- 42:48So that's still on him. And that's not just a calling
- 42:51the game thing. That's a, this is how I want to
- 42:53run my scheme thing. Yeah, I got the steam itself.
- 42:58In terms of the plays were not bad, it was how he wanted the
- 43:01quarterback. Execute said, calls that was
- 43:05awful, combine that with having zero, zero flow in the game.
- 43:10And that's something I think we, we don't see from Tyler bone, he
- 43:13lets Royals operate because, as well as Operate.
- 43:16Now, the problem is that we haven't gotten deep enough into
- 43:20the Playbook where, you know, what we've what we've shown on
- 43:24film is almost kind of what we see every game, the game.
- 43:28And I need to see more variety and, and some more wrinkles from
- 43:33the solvents. And we're seeing them here or
- 43:35there, but I don't think we're seeing enough where it's giving
- 43:40us an advantage against the defense we have.
- 43:43And, and I'm going to be just very honest with you on that.
- 43:47You go for games, you're two and six, nothing can get worse.
- 43:50If you're trying to figure out how it if Wells is going to be
- 43:54your primary starter. Next year, he's going to battle
- 43:56for a job. It's almost Like rip the
- 43:59Band-Aid off, and just give them everything and see how the
- 44:02offense works because by all means, if you lose 40, you lose
- 44:06four in a row, you're two. And six to me, there is nothing
- 44:09to lose. And at least with this, you get
- 44:12a full scope, a full scope of Grant Wells, operating
- 44:18everything in the Playbook not just inside the Box.
- 44:23Yeah. All right let's flip it over.
- 44:26Brian other college football notes.
- 44:28Obviously tonight I had to have you texted I had a couple
- 44:31buddies Malik Mike text me like we all think of the playoff I'm
- 44:34like, haven't seen it yet. This is literally the first time
- 44:37seeing it right now. And I'm actually proud of the
- 44:40committee putting Tennessee at one, Ohio State at to Georgia
- 44:45three Clemson forward Michigan five Tennessee.
- 44:50Has beat multiple multiple ranked football teams.
- 44:55Yep. Multiple and Ohio State has beat
- 45:00multiple ranked Notre Dame, doesn't look as good.
- 45:03But the Penn State Victory last week, obviously really good.
- 45:07I think they got it, right? I really do.
- 45:12And obviously, if you take a look at that, we've got to play
- 45:15in games on the way in the next month, ones this week.
- 45:19Came. We're going to talk about that
- 45:20one later, trust us. What about you?
- 45:23Did you do you think it's right? Do you like Clemson being it
- 45:26for? Or would you have put Michigan
- 45:28there? Ought to put Michigan there.
- 45:31I thought that she was going to be for, I like it.
- 45:35Otherwise, I mean, I can make an argument for Georgia over Ohio
- 45:38State, but they're very neck-and-neck.
- 45:41In my opinion, Tennessee has the best resume.
- 45:44I don't know if they're the best team, but they certainly have
- 45:46the best resume, which is why they are number one in That,
- 45:49that's a fair number one for them.
- 45:53Like I said, I could argue Georgia to, or Ohio State it to,
- 45:57I think Clemson is probably the only one that got wrong at this
- 46:00point. I would definitely put them kind
- 46:02of just outside looking in in the initial pole.
- 46:06I think, Michigan's kind of done more so far.
- 46:10Okay. And you know, I think I'd put
- 46:12them behind Michigan and obviously Alabama's number 6
- 46:16here. So I put them just ahead of
- 46:18Alabama. Oh, Are they an unblemished
- 46:20record? Are they now?
- 46:21Placing so an undefeated team is below a loss, Alabama?
- 46:27Yeah, Theses below Alabama, yeah, that's always irritating
- 46:30to me. So TCU, has not been proven.
- 46:33They can be beaten correct. Alabama has Alabama, has shown,
- 46:39they can lose a game tcu's, not if you flip flop them.
- 46:42I'm fine with that. I'm fine with that.
- 46:44I think organs too high. Don't think you get the doors
- 46:46going off of you. Even if it's early in the
- 46:49season, I don't think they should be that high.
- 46:50I think, at least USC Ole, Miss should be above them, probably
- 46:58no one else. I'm not, I don't know how, a to
- 47:00Los LSU team because LSU as still not impressed.
- 47:04They lost to a mediocre. Florida State team at home,
- 47:09pretty much sand, but we'll discuss that more as we get down
- 47:14to it. There's definitely some SEC
- 47:16biases always in there. But you know It is what it is.
- 47:21I mean, you look at that Florida State team.
- 47:23I mean, it's a, it's a better than we expected, Florida State
- 47:26team, but still nothing to write home about Florida, State team.
- 47:30Yeah. Now, if this was the 12 team
- 47:32that would be games in Ann, Arbor Tuscaloosa Fort Worth in
- 47:37at the Autzen Zoo decision. And I don't worry.
- 47:50Zero degrees on the East Coast having to go to the zoo.
- 48:01Well, that would be actually. That would be USC.
- 48:06Have it that way? They probably flip it put, like,
- 48:07LSU there to go up to the zoo. That'd be nice and yeah, so it's
- 48:12interesting. All right, other big news this
- 48:14week, the Big 12, new TV deal, the dominoes are slowly falling
- 48:192.28, Million over six years between Fox and ESPN.
- 48:24I'd love to see the numbers from each because obviously obviously
- 48:31the math is roughly 30 million a year.
- 48:33I think Big 12 st. Closer to 50 with all the other
- 48:38payouts. Well we're looking strictly at
- 48:39the TV money because the other payouts are variable.
- 48:42Yep. You may get some of it.
- 48:43You may not get some of it so keep that off the table.
- 48:46But let's say split right down there.
- 48:48So some of it, some of its a straight shares.
- 48:50Some of it depends on where you land.
- 48:53Exactly. But if you if we just say, it's
- 48:55a straight middle and it's 1.14 billion.
- 49:01We know that 1 Point 1 4 billion for ESP and I'm focused more on
- 49:05ESPN than Fox because fox has the Big Ten.
- 49:12They have the big 12, the Pac-12 deal still not done yet which is
- 49:17really in. This is a good-sized deal but
- 49:20now you know 1.14 is roughly how much a year God I hate doing
- 49:28math, this late. If I had a chance to do this
- 49:31earlier, we're doing split straight, split wouldn't be 15.
- 49:37What 15 or know what I'm saying is, how much money each year?
- 49:41ESPN is going into it. I got would be suited, be
- 49:44something like 200, probably right under 200 million a year.
- 49:50So close to 15 a year per payout.
- 49:53But what, that tells you right there though, is they still got
- 49:56money left. Now I think they're going to
- 49:59bump the SEC up but I think the AC even though they're locked
- 50:02into the 15-year deal. ESPN is going to probably pay a
- 50:08little bit more. I think the acc's with with the
- 50:12ACC Network going full live is close to 30 million.
- 50:16Now, think it's what it is, like twenty seven and a half.
- 50:19I think the ACC will get a little bit more to product to
- 50:22me. I think the ACC is going to be
- 50:23probably closer to thirty seven straight TV deal.
- 50:27And but this is what we talked about because the big Tim's gone
- 50:31ESPN does not have the Big Ten in a few years and it was all
- 50:34that money. Then you know, they bid up to a
- 50:36point probably somewhere in the neighborhood of about 70 million
- 50:40and team. And now that money is coming
- 50:43back so it's going to be interested to see how that plays
- 50:46out. Yeah.
- 50:47Yeah. What do they do with an extra
- 50:49money? Does does a cut of that?
- 50:50Go to the ACC in a renegotiated deal?
- 50:55Does all of that go to the SEC? I don't think it all can go to
- 50:58the SEC. I don't think it does either.
- 51:01Don't think it does either. I think they get a good shot
- 51:03well, because of where their contract is now.
- 51:05They run. Roughly only need about.
- 51:09I feel like they only need maybe do the math here, maybe like 250
- 51:16million a year to be above the Big Ten.
- 51:19Okay. And so obviously we don't have
- 51:20big, The Big Ten steel is, we know you.
- 51:23Look at this, it's probably another 200 million out there.
- 51:26How much goes back to the ACC, Do they negotiate?
- 51:31Anything with the Pac-12? Now that you're down to 10 teams
- 51:34will be interesting. All right.
- 51:36Last piece before we head to break here, Brian Harrison for
- 51:39real got fired today, not a catfish, not a catfish, not me,
- 51:45Barrett Sally, confirmed it and I'm going to be honest.
- 51:49They haven't heard the ad, they look like doing the Mississippi
- 51:52State ad, which God bless that guy because to take it with
- 51:56those freaking lunatic snout on the plains.
- 52:00Who wants to coach their like seriously like who would who in
- 52:05their right mind would actually want to try to coach their?
- 52:08Yeah, I mean you know Brian Harrison is done himself zero
- 52:14favors in this all. Yes, and let's go ahead and put
- 52:16that out there. 00 favors at the same time.
- 52:23With those with those donors out there, it's a clown show, man.
- 52:27They, they run everything. The thing is, it's constantly,
- 52:33we got to get rid of people, we need to do something different,
- 52:35and it's just like, they had Gus for, you know, close to 78 years
- 52:40and God took him to a national championship.
- 52:42Gus had them in the running, godspeed, Alabama, a few times.
- 52:46They're one of those programs to me that they get a little
- 52:51winning in them. They come Lately, forget who
- 52:55they are. And then when they have a couple
- 52:58mediocre season, everybody wants to burn plates down because oh,
- 53:01it's all screwed up. You are who you are.
- 53:04And that's where the Mississippi State guy.
- 53:05Got bless his soul. Yeah, I mean, I think they want
- 53:09so bad to be like Tier 1 all the time, like some of the some of
- 53:15their other in-state Rivals. And some of the other teams in
- 53:20their conference, and they need to recognize that.
- 53:23That they're, they're a team that because of the money that
- 53:26they have, they can punch up but they're still going to be more
- 53:30or less, a tear to type program consistently.
- 53:33Yeah, we lack the ability to punch up.
- 53:38What they've done the last 11 years, though, I would take it
- 53:41to. Oh, yeah, and be saved game of
- 53:43appearances. Only really, really only two Bad
- 53:46seasons and then the rest can really take it even further back
- 53:50than that. I mean, if you go back last 20
- 53:52years, I don't for I mean they said really good teams, really
- 53:59good team. I definitely take it heartbeats
- 54:02because just because you're not that Elite of elite every year.
- 54:05I mean again you punched up a few times you've you know,
- 54:11you've you've won the big ones that you've had to win to put
- 54:15yourself in a position to play in some big games.
- 54:18Yeah, absolutely. All right.
- 54:20So Brian before we get to know the enemy for N.c.
- 54:23State, we are going to take a quick pause from our digital
- 54:27partners. As we take a quick break, we
- 54:31like to tell you about getting your free website report from

- 54:44Grassroots digital studio.com forward slash free Dash website
- 54:49Dash report. Now back to the episode.
- 54:51All right Brian, let's start with Georgia Tech Know, The
- 54:55Enemy offensive side of the ball and let's start at the
- 54:58quarterback. The quarterback which one?
- 55:01Well they all right, here we go. Who had not really showed much
- 55:06of the Freshman Georgia Tech shown everybody since Jeff
- 55:10Simmons got banged, you got Sims.
- 55:12You got Zach, Gibson, and Zach power.
- 55:15Let's go. This order give me.
- 55:19Obviously Sims has one. So we'll talk about him last.
- 55:23Who's the least likely guy? We're going to see this week and
- 55:26if he does have to play, give me a quick.
- 55:29What we're gonna see in his offense, more than likely, the
- 55:32least likely is going to be Zach Gibson.
- 55:35He started the last game they played against FS, you didn't
- 55:41make it very far into that game. Really more of a, more of an
- 55:47athlete decent short game accuracy, with his arm effective
- 55:51in the running game. Only average arm strength,
- 55:56average accuracy, not really effective in the pocket will
- 55:59panic when he's pressured consistently.
- 56:01So not not exactly. The guy you want to pull the
- 56:04trigger there in a game especially against a team like
- 56:08the Hokies that we know we do have a pretty effective defense
- 56:10at least for 3/4. So so so for if it's Zack
- 56:14Gibson. We're going to see the smallest
- 56:15playbook in the actual potentially smallest person able
- 56:20to run their offense. Yes, smallest Playbook just
- 56:24because he doesn't have the arm to drive the ball down the
- 56:27field. Okay?
- 56:28Okay. All right.
- 56:30Well, what about pyram? What about pot?
- 56:32Because Jeff seems obviously if he's healthy Sims is going to
- 56:35plane. He's the best quarterback.
- 56:36They have. But what do we see in from
- 56:37piron? Pyron is a step up and
- 56:40athleticism, he's a more powerful Runner.
- 56:42He's got a more effective. More effective arm strength,
- 56:48does a better job of intermediate passing game than
- 56:53Gibson. He does still like the arm
- 56:55strength to take some deep shots consistently, but he will make
- 56:59some effective throws in the intermediate passing game.
- 57:01So it does stretch the field a little bit there for them, but
- 57:05he is effective in it three, step drill and he will scramble.
- 57:09Well, keep his eyes down field for check downs and things like
- 57:12that. So more.
- 57:14Of em. And again, probably a more
- 57:15effective runner in the zone read because of his size and
- 57:19power, all right? And then last clearly if he's
- 57:23healthy Jeff Sims, the 63 205 pound quarterback out of Duval.
- 57:31Florida composite four-star was a top 24/7, player top 10
- 57:36quarterback. So far this season.
- 57:38He's throwing nine. Excuse me, he's thrown five
- 57:40touchdowns only rush for one. You know over 300 yards there
- 57:47and we we all if you've been following Hoagie football for
- 57:51the last five years you know who Jeff Simmons is.
- 57:53At one point, he was right there with us and then he decided to
- 57:57go to Georgia Tech. What do we see from him?
- 58:00That makes him obviously, if they want him to start.
- 58:04Yeah, I mean the big thing is confidence.
- 58:06He's a quick decision, maker delivers, a good accurate ball
- 58:09that allows receiver to kind of turn up field.
- 58:11Get some yards after the catch. Great ass.
- 58:14You expect extends plays with his legs.
- 58:16Looks to make the play down the field as he's kind of escaping
- 58:20the pocket and getting to the perimeter, he is a type of
- 58:24quarterback, you know, that we I've been talking about that can
- 58:26Elevate the play of those around him.
- 58:28He's that type of player but he will take risks with the
- 58:31football in the passing game. So, there is some opportunities
- 58:33for some, you know, potential fumbles or turnovers there.
- 58:37But I mean, he's definitely the one of the better quarterbacks
- 58:42we've seen this year in terms of his Skill set and definitely the
- 58:46best quarterback on that roster. Yeah, I mean he obviously is the
- 58:51best. If he's If he if you see him
- 58:53playing you're going to get their best game offensive ly,
- 58:56which isn't the greatest, which we'll talk about later.
- 58:58But let's just be very honest with this team.
- 59:00This team is a run first team. They, you know, they've ran the
- 59:04ball 30 more times than they passed it.
- 59:07Because a, they've given a 30 sacks or they're giving up a
- 59:10sack about one. Every eight drop backs, but they
- 59:13have actually a couple Two really good running backs in the
- 59:15first. Let's talk about here is on,
- 59:17let's talk about. Hassan Hall, a transfer from
- 59:21Louisville class of 2018 was a mid three-star there from the
- 59:27state of Georgia at Maynard Jackson in Atlanta, and, you
- 59:31know, so far this season brown with a sign.
- 59:34He's averaging, you know, just over five yards, a carry 315
- 59:39total yards. Interesting piece here is no
- 59:43touchdown. So that's something to keep an
- 59:47eye on in. You know what are you seeing
- 59:52from him on the tape? Yeah, he's pretty effective.
- 59:57Catching the ball out of the backfield solid vision and he's
- 1:00:01an angry Runner finishes, his runs well good at identifying
- 1:00:05cut back Lanes, that's where you kind of gets a lot of his extra
- 1:00:09yardage there but he's not really a home run threat in the
- 1:00:12offense. He's not heavily Used around the
- 1:00:14goal line. They usually focus more on some
- 1:00:19other guys, whether it's whether it be Sims or one of the other
- 1:00:25quarterback quarterbacks trying to get when they get around the
- 1:00:28goal line there. But he's he's one of those guys
- 1:00:33that gets you a lot of yardage kind of between the 20s.
- 1:00:38Alrighty. So now they have a second
- 1:00:40running back as well. Let's talk about him Nationals.
- 1:00:42Talk about Dante Smith Smith so far this year.
- 1:00:47Again also averaging five your over five yards, a carry at five
- 1:00:51point, one three touchdowns, 258 total yards, little bit of
- 1:00:57receiving eight receptions in eight games and you know, came
- 1:01:04was a myth 3 star coming out of Spring Hill.
- 1:01:07Columbia Tennessee. All-purpose back.
- 1:01:11Not a lot of D1 offers but, you know, a little bit of speed
- 1:01:16there. What makes him a little bit
- 1:01:18different than Hall? Yeah, he's moreover the
- 1:01:21perimeter threat than Hall, especially running the ball,
- 1:01:25he's primarily uses kind of their third down or change of
- 1:01:27pace. Back better, blocker overall and
- 1:01:31they do use him in some of the heavier packages around the goal
- 1:01:34line, in place of Hall to kind of punch it in. 46.
- 1:01:41All right. And you know just kind of
- 1:01:44looking in general with these guys Hall is I would say the
- 1:01:47lead back of the to he's out Carrie Smith by, you know, over
- 1:01:5230 carries in, you know, Georgia Tech's first, eight game so
- 1:01:56roughly getting probably four to five more touches, probably
- 1:01:59seeing the field 8 to 10, more snaps than Smith just based on
- 1:02:06that. But obviously Smith has the nose
- 1:02:08for the end zone. We're Hall doesn't and even
- 1:02:12though we've mentioned that this is a run team and you see Jeff
- 1:02:15Sims numbers. You know he's got over 300 total
- 1:02:18rushing yards with a touchdown. They do have some receivers you
- 1:02:22know and as we started kind of looking at a little bit of
- 1:02:26everybody, I thought about going to Nate McCullum.
- 1:02:30Who is their leading Rod receiver.
- 1:02:32But something with Malachi Carter just kind of caught my
- 1:02:36eye on a couple, his games couple of his games.
- 1:02:39He only had a few catches but put up kind of bigger numbers
- 1:02:44and I wanted to kind of get your feel on him.
- 1:02:47Brian you know was a three-star when he came out in 2018 out of
- 1:02:51Georgia. What makes him a little
- 1:02:54difference where I see a couple of those games where he kind of
- 1:02:56popped over 15 yards, a carry. Yeah, most of that is from the
- 1:03:01yards after the catch. He has good hands.
- 1:03:03He runs. Well, after the catch, mostly
- 1:03:06works from the outside sometimes for the slot dangerous in the
- 1:03:10open field, he's not really used much in the screen game though
- 1:03:15that makes most of his hay in that kind of intermediate range.
- 1:03:18So when they are attacking a little bit more downfield,
- 1:03:22that's kind of where he makes his hay.
- 1:03:24And he's he does a pretty good job after the catch with some of
- 1:03:27those balls. Yeah.
- 1:03:30I wanted to focus on that also when Brown when you kind of
- 1:03:33through your notes in there and it kind of made me think this
- 1:03:37tackles been better this year, but he's the guy we do not want
- 1:03:42to see, get the ball in space and start missing tackles, he
- 1:03:44will make us pay. So I hope we can keep him under
- 1:03:49wraps for the game but again also listen mate, McCullum EJ
- 1:03:54Jenkins just a couple other wide receiver names.
- 1:03:56They're all right Braun let's talk about it.
- 1:03:59It will talk about the scheme on the offense and let's talk about
- 1:04:02the offensive line. Yeah.
- 1:04:05I mean I'd say probably especially in past Pro.
- 1:04:07This is the the worst offensive line unit.
- 1:04:09We've seen since BC, we need to stay aggressive and keep
- 1:04:13pressure on them. To keep them frustrated, they
- 1:04:16are good when they can kind of create predictable outcomes.
- 1:04:22They're not good. When you get aggressive with
- 1:04:25them. When you confuse them, they
- 1:04:28become a shell. So if we can stay aggressive the
- 1:04:31whole game and bring some pressure, especially in a game
- 1:04:34where we're not quite as worried about the downfield throws, you
- 1:04:38know, you, hopefully we can, we can hold up on the back and a
- 1:04:41little bit better than we did laid against NC State.
- 1:04:44But I mean we're looking at it kind of a Smash Mouth spread,
- 1:04:46it's going to be heavy, heavy heavy Zone.
- 1:04:49Read our po elements, they're not taking a ton of shots
- 1:04:54downfield. This is very much a run focused
- 1:04:57run first offense And without Sims their damn near a triple
- 1:05:04option team. A lot of times guys, we know
- 1:05:10about Georgia Tech in the triple option but you know, they really
- 1:05:14kind of become that that type of almost run exclusive.
- 1:05:19Unless they're, they're playing from behind type team.
- 1:05:22They were down multiple scores against FSU and they were still,
- 1:05:27you know, run run. and then pass when they had to So that they
- 1:05:34were going to, they definitely want to run the football if
- 1:05:37they're going to have success in the offense woman Chosen and
- 1:05:40he's chosen the staffs mean they're under six.
- 1:05:43Yeah, it hurt game. I mean per attempt under six and
- 1:05:48temp, that's just ugly. Yeah, I think if we do a good
- 1:05:51job attacking that mesh point that that'll kind of keep things
- 1:05:56in a more predictable outcome, make sure that we kind of Let
- 1:06:00Jeff Sims give it as much as you can.
- 1:06:05That would be ideal or put him in a no-win situation where if
- 1:06:12he gives it or keeps it. He's kind of eat up that that's
- 1:06:15kind of what we need to do. Keep him living in Hell a little
- 1:06:18bit, but getting a lead on them, early could really help them.
- 1:06:22Help us kind of get them out of their game plan there because
- 1:06:25they definitely want to run the ball.
- 1:06:26They definitely want to kill clock.
- 1:06:28It's still that type of offense. Even though we're not seeing
- 1:06:31that that triple option that flexbone, that we saw from
- 1:06:37Georgia Tech for years, but it's, but it's me, but it's
- 1:06:40funny, you say it could get them out of their game plan, but on
- 1:06:43the other hand they just might stay in their game plan and we
- 1:06:46get up 21 nothing like we're just going to keep running the
- 1:06:48ball. Thank you.
- 1:06:51All right. He's gonna keep running the ball
- 1:06:54and not having any success and I mean they doing well enough, but
- 1:06:58they're not, they're not moving it.
- 1:07:00Consistently enough to. Yeah, it's like they'll have an
- 1:07:03eight or ten yard gain a little back it up with the two or three
- 1:07:05or one or two, and sometimes a negative play and next thing you
- 1:07:09know, they're punting. So he's was that.
- 1:07:12That's kind of how we've got a got to do it.
- 1:07:14We can't let you know, one or two, first downs, kind of create
- 1:07:18that tidal wave where they end up rolling into the end zone.
- 1:07:21We got to make sure that we're getting off the field.
- 1:07:24Absolutely. Alright.
- 1:07:26So next guy, Braun, we're going to flip over to defense first.
- 1:07:29Go on Talk about guy who started his playing career as class of
- 1:07:342017 at Old Dominion, he transferred in to Georgia Tech.
- 1:07:41He was a two-star when he came out of high school down.
- 1:07:44In Garner, North Carolina at Garner, High School, a ski on
- 1:07:48white. And you know, so far this
- 1:07:50season, four sacks leading the team in sacks.
- 1:07:54You know, thirty five tackles past deflection as well and he's
- 1:07:59at prototypical All the build your love on 65 286.
- 1:08:05How does he show on tape? Really good.
- 1:08:09Actually, he's kind of a guy that they use in a lot of
- 1:08:15different ways. He's got really good size, which
- 1:08:20helps him kind of slide into a three technique.
- 1:08:22When they go with a different line set, but he's also kind of
- 1:08:25that big in that can also rush the passer.
- 1:08:27Well, the only thing he doesn't do great, he's not he's not very
- 1:08:32good at shedding blocks and and for his size he can get moved
- 1:08:35out of the gaps but Wendy can shoot a gap and penetrate that's
- 1:08:40kind of where he makes his hey and he does a good job there.
- 1:08:44And like I said, for his size very above average pass rusher,
- 1:08:48whether he's lined up outside the tackle or inside the tackle,
- 1:08:53Alrighty, let's flip now, let's look at the two linebackers.
- 1:08:57Let's start with Charlie Thomas. First of all Thomas out of
- 1:09:00Thomasville High School in Georgia class of 18, a high 3
- 1:09:05star in the state of Georgia. Top 50 player down there when he
- 1:09:08came out. And so far this year, I mean, 70
- 1:09:11total tackles which is second on the yellow jackets.
- 1:09:16Behind one guy will talk about in a few minutes.
- 1:09:18He has a sack, he's forced a fumble, couple of interceptions,
- 1:09:216220 Seven, where is he lining up on it with Charlie?
- 1:09:28Yes, so he's a, the positions called money.
- 1:09:31It's actually similar to the backer that we were used to, in
- 1:09:36the Bud Foster system. So he's better against the Run
- 1:09:41than the past. He will Blitz but not quite as
- 1:09:44often as the guy that we're going to talk about next.
- 1:09:48Navigates the trash. Well to get to an attack is Gap
- 1:09:51responsibilities, he's inconsistent in coverage but
- 1:09:56he's pretty solid when he can kind of read react and drive on
- 1:10:00a route versus having to sit back and kind of pass guys
- 1:10:04through zones or working man, it will miss a tackle occasionally,
- 1:10:10especially when he's in Pursuit, but he's really good.
- 1:10:13He's kind of playing downhill and is able to kind of square
- 1:10:15guys up. When you talk about the
- 1:10:18inconsistency in coverage, is it, is it just the eyes are the
- 1:10:23odds? Is it just looks like the heads
- 1:10:25going everywhere versus, you know, focus on one thing we see
- 1:10:30when I hear you say inconsistent, the first thing I
- 1:10:31think of is he's not looking at the quarterback.
- 1:10:34He's looking at the Players moving around him.
- 1:10:37We're when you're in zone, it's like look where the quarterback
- 1:10:40is, if a guy crosses you that's fine, but you still shouldn't be
- 1:10:45there. Because if you're looking at
- 1:10:46him, He comes back across the field.
- 1:10:48Well, you're going to be a half a second leg.
- 1:10:50You're not even gonna be in the play.
- 1:10:52Yeah, it looks like he's thinking too much.
- 1:10:55A lot of times when he's in that kind of true Zone, when he's
- 1:10:59able to kind of see everything in front of him and just react
- 1:11:02to it a lot better. Nice.
- 1:11:05So nice kind of what it is. Alright now let's flip to the
- 1:11:09next Jack. As I said there were he has 70
- 1:11:11tackles? You know, that's average antenna
- 1:11:12game. I need a lot.
- 1:11:15Number two linebacker. R63 233 pounds out of Olney,
- 1:11:21Maryland, 82. Tackles three and a half sacks.
- 1:11:26Three forced fumbles, just last week against FSU.
- 1:11:29He had 11 tackles. So, it's been consistent all
- 1:11:33year. When he came back out in 2017.
- 1:11:36He was recruited to Maryland. He did not come originally to
- 1:11:42Georgia Tech. So, he was a transfer from
- 1:11:45Maryland and he was a Our had a good you know you take a look at
- 1:11:50his list. We did show some interest in him
- 1:11:53being up at Good Counsel. It's a pretty good high school
- 1:11:54command but a lot of good looks for him back.
- 1:11:58Then what's the tape showing? You know, the statistics say it
- 1:12:06is he their best player on defense or Yeah, best overall
- 1:12:11player on defense, he plays the Mac position which is the mic in
- 1:12:16the defense. He's got good length, plays
- 1:12:19fast, especially when he's blitzing.
- 1:12:22He does a good job of reading the play and attacking his Gap.
- 1:12:25Good tackler, especially at the point of attack, when he's kind
- 1:12:29of between the tackles, they're not bad in coverage, but he does
- 1:12:33struggle struggle when covering kind of athletic players like a
- 1:12:37joke or tight in or wide receiver.
- 1:12:40And he does that sometimes struggle to shed block.
- 1:12:42So that's kind of. If we can get him tied up in the
- 1:12:44in the middle there we can kind of neutralize them a little bit.
- 1:12:48So I hear you say that. That fourth statement there
- 1:12:50about covering athletic tight ends, do you think this is a
- 1:12:53game where Gallo should be at H put right on that kind of that
- 1:12:58Wing back and force him to cover.
- 1:13:02Yeah, I would, I would put him in as much force position as we
- 1:13:06can where he's got to do stuff in space and cover in space and
- 1:13:10make them run. Make him run as much as
- 1:13:12possible. Alrighty.
- 1:13:14Alrighty, let's flip it. One last player on the defensive
- 1:13:18side of the ball and that is Le Mi Brooks the defensive back.
- 1:13:22Le miles from Trinity Christian Academy that name has a afford,
- 1:13:30some other good players from down.
- 1:13:32There he is the class of 2020. Yes he did get a Virginia Tech
- 1:13:36offer. No, he did not commit and he was
- 1:13:39a pretty highly rated player for Star composite cop. 260 player
- 1:13:44nationally a top 20 quarter pipe 50 in Florida.
- 1:13:49We actually were a favorite tool and him back in 2020 and
- 1:13:55obviously we missed their know. We weren't no you weren't that.
- 1:13:59We had badly 2020 class man. Back to haunt us still still so
- 1:14:05far this season, I love the stat line from to be a defensive
- 1:14:09back. Thirty three, tackles two
- 1:14:12interceptions and five past deflected.
- 1:14:15So he has been around the ball a lot this year and also had a
- 1:14:19fumble recovery. So clearly a nose for the ball.
- 1:14:23What's what? Smile showing in the secondary
- 1:14:28Yeah, so you play safety for this team.
- 1:14:31He's probably the best playmaker in their secondary.
- 1:14:33Really great. In pursued, making them feel
- 1:14:35tackles finish his plays. Well, when he has spill area
- 1:14:38responsibilities, he's good but occasionally sloppy with those
- 1:14:43run fits so that's something that we can potentially exploit.
- 1:14:48He's also good coverage but he can be exposed in one-on-one.
- 1:14:52He's very much better when he's in the zone.
- 1:14:56All right, let's flip it over now.
- 1:14:57Brian. Let's talk about this scheme.
- 1:14:59Obviously you mentioned something we were familiar with,
- 1:15:03so I'm going to assume 425 425 but they do.
- 1:15:07They are multiple so you'll see them kind of mix-and-match
- 1:15:09fronts. They use that kind of standing D
- 1:15:13in. It's kind of a hybrid player
- 1:15:15that they'll slide into a backer position and then slide there
- 1:15:18Sam kind of into more true nickel.
- 1:15:21So they kind of morph a little bit into a little bit of a 33
- 1:15:26little bit of a Or kind of depending on what they need, but
- 1:15:30they are a base for 25 and they try to switch up those fronts to
- 1:15:35create confusion to create matchups, that work for them.
- 1:15:39They bring pressure fairly regularly, usually kind of Zone
- 1:15:43Blitz in the early parts of a drive.
- 1:15:45They'll go more man Blitz as they kind of get pushed further
- 1:15:48into their own territory. They force a decent amount of
- 1:15:52turnovers usually off pressure, and they're very much kind of a
- 1:15:57Bend don't break for. Safiye.
- 1:15:59You can score on them, but they're going to try to hold you
- 1:16:03two, three. All right.
- 1:16:05Well you mentioned the force turnovers off pressure.
- 1:16:08Let's go to the Hokies in the first thing we can talk about,
- 1:16:10is their turnover margin. They are a top five team in the
- 1:16:15country in turnover margin with plus 12.
- 1:16:19Not a lot of plus 12 teams are three and five.
- 1:16:22So I got nerdy and just started looking at the game films and in
- 1:16:26their three wins their plus 7. So clearly in those wins, you
- 1:16:33know, They turn the ball over and that was against Western
- 1:16:37Carolina. Oh man, Duke I had Duke 23:10 in
- 1:16:45pit, so they forced a lot of turnovers in those three games.
- 1:16:49So in the five losses though, they still created Five
- 1:16:53turnovers. That's a turnover game.
- 1:16:54So I dug a little deeper. They forced to against UVA and
- 1:16:59they lost by a touchdown. They had one in a blowout loss
- 1:17:03to Ole Miss and they Two against FSU who also blew the doors off
- 1:17:07of them. And the other two losses, it was
- 1:17:11an even battle. So in three of their losses,
- 1:17:15they were +5 and they got outscored by like Almost 100,
- 1:17:24they have to force turnovers to win games.
- 1:17:26That's clear. Yeah.
- 1:17:27Maybe force turnovers to be competitive.
- 1:17:30Be competitive. It even when they force a bunch
- 1:17:32UVA, it bores to turn over against that.
- 1:17:36Bad offense, came up with seven points against not, a really
- 1:17:39good defense even when they forced a can lose.
- 1:17:42So I sit here Brian and I ask you, I think we just have to be
- 1:17:46aggressive because what they've shown is even when they forced
- 1:17:50turnovers I don't do a hell of a lot with it.
- 1:17:54Yeah, we definitely can't revert into a shell, every if we make a
- 1:17:57mistake, we got to keep being aggressive, pushing the ball
- 1:18:01downfield, keep them on edge because I mean they show against
- 1:18:05FSU. They had essentially a six-point
- 1:18:08turn around on one play where they forced a fumble with FSU
- 1:18:12inside the, their 5-yard line and they ran it back to like the
- 1:18:1522, yard line and only got three out of it.
- 1:18:18And they had another turnover later and later in that same
- 1:18:21quarter, FSU had two turnovers early, Laying was winning the
- 1:18:25whole game. I mean, this isn't, this isn't
- 1:18:27something where, you know, they do a whole lot with those
- 1:18:30turnovers. So if if it happens, Don't
- 1:18:34Panic. Stay aggressive on offense.
- 1:18:36Stay aggressive on defense. Don't let that Sudden Change
- 1:18:40become six points. That's it, but it's also
- 1:18:45difficult them to score points and that's where I go to the
- 1:18:49next key is it's going to be our defense General.
- 1:18:52This defense is This is 118th in the country, they are not a good
- 1:18:56offense, their 125th and score there.
- 1:18:58Below us in scoring Which says a lot not good Bob.
- 1:19:04I mean, even in their three wins, the offense has not been
- 1:19:07good at all and their biggest scoring output was 26 versus
- 1:19:11pit. So you talk about a defense Get
- 1:19:15Right game. We look good for three quarters.
- 1:19:17Last week let's bring it for quarters.
- 1:19:19Like this team like we did against BC and keep them under
- 1:19:23two touchdowns. Yep.
- 1:19:27Yeah and the big thing is slowing that run down if we can
- 1:19:29slow that run down there. Not going to be a team that can
- 1:19:32do anything offensively. So we'll see.
- 1:19:35Speaking of Run games, I think the Hokies Run game is going to
- 1:19:38be a geeky, said it in the Press today.
- 1:19:41Malachi's doubtful, which gives me a sliver of Hope, but also
- 1:19:46gives me a sliver of Hope to that.
- 1:19:48He won't play until he's ready and good news back.
- 1:19:53He Shaun King probable, so would likely going to see him probably
- 1:19:57the combination of Holsten and Duke but Georgia.
- 1:20:00Tech. I mean I look back at the UNC
- 1:20:03game and talked about them being a bad offense.
- 1:20:07As far as rushing, the ball Georgia Tech 101 this year,
- 1:20:11giving up over 177 yards a game. So I think between the
- 1:20:16combination of Wells King Holston and Duke, I want to see
- 1:20:21at least 130 to 140 yards on 30 to 35 carries.
- 1:20:25A fellow made me feel better but maybe three-and-a-half is where
- 1:20:30I should be happy. Per attempt, we got to do better
- 1:20:34than we did last week and I know this is the way.
- 1:20:37This is a big step down in terms of front and in terms of
- 1:20:41linebacker play overall. And that's not knocking the two
- 1:20:46guys. I mean, I think they're probably
- 1:20:47two of the better players on this defense but we were looking
- 1:20:51at three NFL caliber linebackers last week.
- 1:20:55We were and some solid players in that front.
- 1:20:59You know, we rang Not getting that this week.
- 1:21:03Now the this is a big step down. We should see better this week
- 1:21:09in the running game. So if we if we can get like you
- 1:21:12said, I think 135 would be a good number 140.
- 1:21:18If we get above 150 great but we can get around that 135 140
- 1:21:22range at or just above three and a half a Kerry.
- 1:21:27I think that'll be effective enough especially for being
- 1:21:29aggressive and pushing the ball downfield.
- 1:21:30The passing game abso-freakin'-lutely.
- 1:21:35Let's go back and talk about what we talked about earlier.
- 1:21:39The biggest key to this game and hopefully growing some
- 1:21:43confidence with this team is we've got a string, the multiple
- 1:21:47quarters of productive football across all elements.
- 1:21:51Yep, it's what we're missing it. I mean we can attest to it and
- 1:21:56probably say, if you Street a couple extra quarters in pit in
- 1:22:01Miami and one more quarter in NC State.
- 1:22:06It's three wins versus three losses, two teams, five and two.
- 1:22:10Yep. And and that's it.
- 1:22:11Let's look at let's look at NC State and head too bad.
- 1:22:14Quarters of special teams play. Get two and a half.
- 1:22:17Bad quarters of offense and we had one bad quarter defense.
- 1:22:21Yeah. And All Canes at separate points
- 1:22:24during the game. Yep.
- 1:22:26Offense early. When the defense was humming
- 1:22:29defense and offense Lady, Heather in the third quarter.
- 1:22:34You know, you outscored team 21-7, that's big, that's what
- 1:22:37you want, every quarter, and then the Special Teams, you
- 1:22:39know, I think it was first and fourth one is good but it's just
- 1:22:43stinging the string and the quarters together because that
- 1:22:47builds momentum that builds confidence.
- 1:22:49You see guys play better and I think a team like this that
- 1:22:54don't do not have the Firepower to hit you back quick.
- 1:23:01It's kind of what the Hokies need and Brian, let's flip it.
- 1:23:03Over and let's talk about predictions on this game.
- 1:23:06And unfortunately, for me and you for a while.
- 1:23:09Now we've been going against the Hokies.
- 1:23:12And you know what's your feels this week?
- 1:23:16Well, I'm not going against the Hokies this weekend.
- 1:23:20I've got an actual repeat of last year's final score.
- 1:23:25All right. I think that we're going to be
- 1:23:28effective driving the football. I think we probably don't close
- 1:23:31as many drives as we'd like to, but we're effective enough
- 1:23:35moving the football against this defense.
- 1:23:38I think we give up a couple scores to them but then we kind
- 1:23:44of settle in and we finish this off.
- 1:23:49I've got 26. Toki's and I'm not far behind
- 1:23:54you because I do hope that we can continue our streak of
- 1:23:58picking these games correctly. I'm going a little less than you
- 1:24:01on both sides. I think it's 2410.
- 1:24:04Hokies I think what we saw last week with that defense, NC state
- 1:24:10has some play makers. We talked about that.
- 1:24:12They were missing the quarterback and I think what
- 1:24:13they found last week was likely the guys going to succeed leery
- 1:24:16when he steps away. And I really think defensively,
- 1:24:21I can't see watching Georgia Tech a few times this year.
- 1:24:25They just looked pitiful offensively and with no real
- 1:24:28threat of a passing game. I think Brent pry probably can
- 1:24:32feel comfortable playing some guys.
- 1:24:33He may not be as comfortable with and I think we pull the W
- 1:24:38and I think it's going to It's going to feel nice on Saturday
- 1:24:41afternoon, As we sit down and crack a game for our big
- 1:24:47screener. We're not picking separate games
- 1:24:50this week, there is only one game in the AP, they're 12 and
- 1:24:54the cfp they're 13 and that's Georgia versus Tennessee and
- 1:24:59that's obviously hidden hooker, Georgia is 8 point favorite down
- 1:25:04in Athens between the hedges, the over-under is 66.
- 1:25:09And this has been one, I've been just thinking about sitting at
- 1:25:12the baseball game, even thinking about it umpire was a has a son
- 1:25:17that Tech fan. We're not technically a text
- 1:25:20using the senior up there and I think what I'm going to have to
- 1:25:25say is I think I'm going to take Tennessee to win the game
- 1:25:31outright and I am going to go over the 66.
- 1:25:36Okay, thank what I'm kind of feeling in this situation.
- 1:25:40Is something like a 3833 game where it's going to be a war.
- 1:25:49But let me get your, let me get your predictions first.
- 1:25:52And then, let's I want to kind of hit what we talked about
- 1:25:54earlier about this game. Okay?
- 1:25:58Okay, I'm going to go 34-31, I'm taking Tennessee to win outright
- 1:26:09and then the under just barely hits.
- 1:26:13You're gonna be sweating that if it really, is their 34 late.
- 1:26:17But let's talk about what we Talked about Brian.
- 1:26:21We were discussing this game because we talked about this
- 1:26:23game for 15 minutes a day. And I said to you, If Tennessee
- 1:26:30gets up two scores, early. Do you have the confidence that
- 1:26:37Georgia can fire power back? I think they can, but it's it's
- 1:26:47not, it's not a sure thing, right?
- 1:26:49Because we've seen up and down, ability in that area.
- 1:26:53Kent State. Yeah.
- 1:26:55So, you know, it's really hard to say, you know, are there, do
- 1:27:01they have that in them, you know, when we look at the, we
- 1:27:04were talking about taking out the outliers earlier and Kent
- 1:27:08State's kind of the kind of one of the outliers.
- 1:27:10Therefore, for George, And we said Mizzou is the big outlier.
- 1:27:15Yeah. Mizzou is the other outlier
- 1:27:17there because if I got Georgia, pains, listen to this.
- 1:27:20Y'all were saved by the rest at night.
- 1:27:22There were some penalties that happen that if the flag had been
- 1:27:25thrown a couple extra scores wouldn't happen in Georgia,
- 1:27:28would be a one-loss team right now.
- 1:27:31That's my opinion. Yeah, when you're, when you're
- 1:27:33right, when you're right tackle, clearly false starts on Third
- 1:27:36and goal and you get a touchdown from it.
- 1:27:41That helps out with a 4-point game.
- 1:27:43Big time. But we mentioned it the other
- 1:27:46way because I think if Georgia gets up early, I think
- 1:27:49Tennessee's got they are running so vertical, they are so
- 1:27:54attacking them filled with hypos offense.
- 1:27:56If they get down early, I think they're just going to keep
- 1:27:59swinging. It keeps swinging it and I think
- 1:28:02to a point where we've seen come times with Kirby Smart he'll get
- 1:28:05into those man's. He wants to play man.
- 1:28:08He wants to be aggressive up front.
- 1:28:11He hadn't quite bone X and quite henin hooker and I think the
- 1:28:16wide receiver core at Tennessee's a little bit better.
- 1:28:19But you know, I think it's gonna be a hell of a game.
- 1:28:23I think it's gonna be a fun to watch.
- 1:28:24Thank God, too hokey game will be over so we can enjoy it.
- 1:28:27Yeah. Versus you've been keeping
- 1:28:29looking on our other one here. All right.
- 1:28:31Yeah. I think I think when you see
- 1:28:33that, I think they're if Georgia wants to pull it out, I feel
- 1:28:36like George is going to have to get to Hendon consistently.
- 1:28:40That's going to be the only way that they're going to pull it
- 1:28:41out and if they're doing that and they miss him there's gonna
- 1:28:44be a lot of space for him to run and we know that he can run.
- 1:28:50All right, big man, has anything broken, almost eleven twenty on.
- 1:28:58Tuesday night, 90 minutes on the dot here. 90 minutes on the dot.
- 1:29:03We did, it baseball game is. See that score real quick for
- 1:29:07you wrap here, baseball games over and afters?
- 1:29:13Got shut out seven new. Ouch, ouch couldn't happen to a
- 1:29:19better team. Oh, and don't let Doug here that
- 1:29:23don't like when you got. We got a braised fan kind of.
- 1:29:27Pulling for the Phillies, you know, it's some foul shit.
