- 1:30There he is. There he is.
- 1:32Merry Christmas. Merry.
- 1:34Christmas guys. Merry Christmas, my brother.
- 1:38So yo, so being that you texted me motherfucker, because.
- 1:44Watch your language. Things happen.
- 1:46Watch. Your language so.
- 1:47He was trained out there with balls.
- 1:50Mahoney OK. He was ECW Oriental and work for
- 1:56Tony Rumble. So tell us a little bit about
- 2:01yourself, Mr. Derek. Well, what he can do is tell us
- 2:04when he's smoking 1st, and then we'll get into that.
- 2:06See? See, we're missing the whole,
- 2:09missing the whole thing. This guy's new.
- 2:11He's never done this before. No, it's brand new at it.
- 2:14I got you tonight. I am smoking the crema.
- 2:17By Espanol. That's so good.
- 2:20Nice smoke. This one happens to be the
- 2:22Havana, which is really, really, really tight.
- 2:24Really nice, puts flavor on that one.
- 2:26Very cool. What do you guys guys light up
- 2:31here? Well, I'm lighting up the
- 2:32comfortably numb, the whole break cigar break, cigar.
- 2:36I remember when this first came out, when I got it on cigar bid
- 2:40when it came out and I have not been able to find it since.
- 2:46And if I have, it's like certain shops only have one or two or
- 2:50maybe 3, but they're held off to the side.
- 2:53Yep, it's a great cigar. The creamy, it's a creamy cigar.
- 2:58It's a good cigar. It's not super, it's not super
- 3:00Maduro. It's really creamy and light,
- 3:03but it's it it it packs a nice punch.
- 3:05Nice and. I got my and produces a.
- 3:08Lot of smoke I took. The took the wrapper operator.
- 3:12This guy's a rookie, too. What are we going to do with
- 3:14him, bro? It's a rookie.
- 3:15Bro, what am I? Should I just do this myself
- 3:17today? I think so.
- 3:18Move it that way. Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to
- 3:20just do it to myself because Jesus, I can't do nothing with
- 3:22these. Two, you know, it's hard to you
- 3:25know, I don't know how Santa does it with his beard.
- 3:27Santa also doesn't smoke with his beard.
- 3:30Santa smokes after Christmas. Trim it up and get rid of it I.
- 3:34Don't know. I've seen some of those things.
- 3:36You know, the kids put on the the news and they see Santa
- 3:39flying through the air. I've seen him with a Espinosa
- 3:41cigar before, so. Hey, listen, I mean, if he
- 3:44smokes it, then I mean we have to smoke it.
- 3:46Amen. So.
- 3:48Derek. Yes, Sir.
- 3:50Let's. Let's get to the point.
- 3:53He he He is so let's. He I'll keep going here.
- 3:56So I kind of, I kind of got the questions you're going to ask
- 3:59but in a little quicker manner. So let's let's start with what
- 4:04made you get into wrestling. Well, living two towns over from
- 4:11malt. And you know, I lived in, I grew
- 4:12up in Lynn, Mass. So Malden is where Tilikulsi
- 4:15school was. Yes, OK.
- 4:18Well, I knew a lot of. I knew a ton of guys that would
- 4:20go into coalesi school and I'm the only time.
- 4:23I think it was twice in New England, the N.W.A, the National
- 4:26Wrestling Alliance from Atlanta, you know the Atlanta one, the
- 4:29real one, Rick Flair and all them came to the Boston Garden
- 4:34and I saw this big guy in the stands during intermission
- 4:39shaking hands and and doing autographs.
- 4:42So I walked up and introduced myself and just being an N.W.A
- 4:49fan my whole life and who he was.
- 4:53He told me about some events, you know the I what was it
- 4:56called ICW back then when Kevin Sullivan and Tony Rumble ran
- 5:00with with was it Ricky Santana? With Ricky Santana and them.
- 5:07So I started going to every show and watching them all and and
- 5:12then one time I bumped into Tony Rumble during a intermission and
- 5:17I always said to him, I said, you know, how do I get involved
- 5:19with this? And he goes, well, you just.
- 5:21Ask. OK, that's.
- 5:25That goes for everybody out there who wants to know how to
- 5:27get in there. Now it's just it's the same
- 5:29thing. The rules really haven't changed
- 5:32much. And you can, you know, you can
- 5:34correct me if I'm wrong, but I've the rules don't really
- 5:37change. All you got to do now still is
- 5:39just ask a simple question. They'll point you in the right
- 5:43direction to a school that they might even have a school now.
- 5:46You know, back then there weren't a ton of wrestling
- 5:49schools back in the back in the day.
- 5:52But of course Walters was over in Malden and all the real
- 5:56wrestling schools choose the terminology.
- 5:58Not that Walters wasn't a real wrestling school, because a lot
- 6:00of great guys come out of there. A lot of stars came out of that.
- 6:02One a lot of great guys come out of.
- 6:05Philip Walshy School. But you know, you had to go down
- 6:08South to get in. You had to go like down South or
- 6:10over to Memphis to get into a wrestling school like down
- 6:13South. You had Steve Kern, who was, you
- 6:17know, he was a worker, but he was also a Booker for the
- 6:21company. And Mike Graham.
- 6:23Mike Graham ran all. Of Florida.
- 6:25And Kern was also part of the the Midnight Express too, if
- 6:30people don't know that. Well, no.
- 6:32So so. Steve Kern started back in the
- 6:35day when when he was doing the thing back then, but when he
- 6:38went. Over to like.
- 6:40Memphis and went over to working for the one in Atlanta.
- 6:44Him and Stan Lane became the fabulous.
- 6:46One, that's right, yes. And.
- 6:49I I know a lot of stuff and I always get names mixed up.
- 6:53It's very easy. To do.
- 6:54But I mean you got to figure where they started over.
- 6:57You know, Steve KREM was working for my Gram and then they went
- 7:00over to work for Lawler. Well, not really Lawler, but it
- 7:03was Lawler's company. But you know.
- 7:05And then you, of course, you went over to Vern and the AWA,
- 7:07which you had to be. You had to be the best to work
- 7:12for Vern. You had to be the best for the
- 7:15Awa it was. No, Out of the Awa, The Road
- 7:17Warriors. Rick Rude, Curt Henning.
- 7:19Exactly. I mean, you got to remember that
- 7:21at one time, at one time, Rick Rude and Manny Fernandez held
- 7:25the AWA World Tag Team champions.
- 7:27Correct. You know, so you got to and then
- 7:29you think about the fantastics and then you think about all the
- 7:32tag teams. Now I'm a huge I'm a huge tag
- 7:36team guy, huge tag team. I think more tag team matches
- 7:39should be on TV. I'm a huge tag team guy that
- 7:42like the way they. If the teams are placed together
- 7:44right and sometimes those oddball pairings work out to be
- 7:47great, you know that as well as I do.
- 7:50And you've and you've seen it, you know, all through the years
- 7:53when they put certain people together and they just work.
- 7:56Yo so. It's so, so let me ask you this
- 7:59question and I'm going to put this out there so so everybody
- 8:06out of Killer Kowalski School has made it on on on all the
- 8:16independence. I think there's one that hasn't
- 8:19gotten his shine yet, and that's the last kid I think to come out
- 8:24of Kowalski School, I think 10 years ago.
- 8:28And that's what's JJ. Freddie, I think, is his name.
- 8:32Oh, Jake, Freddy. Yeah, I think he's the the last
- 8:35one I think that needs. I think he's the last one to be
- 8:41able to you know get up onto a main company.
- 8:44I think he's like he's it because I know he was the last.
- 8:47He was the. Last unbelievable worker, that
- 8:50kid. He he is, he's definitely, you
- 8:52know, just a solid, great hand. But also remember back in the
- 8:58day, because Walter worked for the WWF, when WWF would come to
- 9:02town, when WF would come to town, they'd call Walter and go,
- 9:06OK, I need guys for this. I need guys for that.
- 9:08I need guys for this. That's how guys got on the
- 9:10roster. You have people like Mike
- 9:11Hollow. He got on the roster, you had
- 9:14Tim Mcnini, you had these guys who went all the time and
- 9:18Knuckles Nelson, All these guys went over to work for WWF
- 9:22Triple. H Triple H started out in WCW as
- 9:25terrorizing. Let's go.
- 9:27Let's go back. To.
- 9:29I mean, he had connections. Let's go back to Nelson and Tony
- 9:36rumbles, Tony rumbles. Company.
- 9:41Company. Let's go back Knuckles Nelson,
- 9:45Tony Rumbles Company, where you and I have started, you know
- 9:53what I mean? So.
- 9:54Yeah, yeah. So you and I have started with
- 9:57Knuckles Nelson, my man. He's Nelson.
- 10:02Eric Frazier. Yes, Eric.
- 10:05Frazier. Joel.
- 10:06Joel. Yeah.
- 10:07No, listen, man, the stories about that guy are just endless.
- 10:15I've. I've heard they're all true.
- 10:17And and what's the best part is, is he's also going to be a
- 10:20future guest on this podcast. Oh, that was great.
- 10:24That's going to be a that podcast is going to be great
- 10:27along with this one. So, so let's go back to
- 10:32Agnesburg, New York, OK? OK.
- 10:38Where Agnesburg? Where everything happened in
- 10:42Agnesburg. OK, so we going to Agnesburg.
- 10:46So now. Well, we've we've.
- 10:48We've heard your side, so why don't we let him tell his side
- 10:52of that story now? So we did.
- 10:56We did this awesome show and it was, it was pretty it was
- 10:59actually a really good show. It was N.W.A New England show
- 11:02and afterwards we all just kind of kicking it and I know that
- 11:08from what I remember. I think big Dog and.
- 11:11Joe went for a walk. Yeah.
- 11:14Is that what we're going to call it now?
- 11:16A walk? A walk.
- 11:16It went for a walk and I think behind the building like where
- 11:21they were, where the delivery stuff is, there was like this
- 11:24the the truck and the guys were bringing all the boxes and
- 11:26stuff. I think they were getting a
- 11:28fresh delivery of of stuff for the week.
- 11:30Like, it was like a like a brand new box truck.
- 11:32They were bringing stuff out of the truck and putting it there.
- 11:34Well, there was nobody around in the and there was a dumpster
- 11:37kind of like, I mean kind of like diagonal from where they
- 11:40were parked and all the boxes were stacked in front of the
- 11:43fucking dumpster. It looked like trash.
- 11:46I mean, one man's trash is another wrestler's treasure.
- 11:49And it was our treasure. All I know is, is that is this
- 11:52one's a noon over here and and freaking Joel come back and I
- 11:55was like what the what? What do you call this like oh,
- 11:59it was in the trash. We just grabbed it.
- 12:00I'm like, this was in the trash. Yeah, it was in next to the
- 12:02dump. All right.
- 12:03So we drank. All.
- 12:04And you know what's funny is I I know he could do it, but I
- 12:08could. I could.
- 12:08So see Joel's face. Yep, he's saying it.
- 12:12It it was in the trash, buddy. Don't worry about it, buddy.
- 12:14It was in the trash. It was next to the dumpster.
- 12:16We thought it was. Trash.
- 12:17We looked in the boxes. We picked him up.
- 12:19We. Brought him to the boy.
- 12:20Worried about it? Yeah.
- 12:23Wait, wait. Hold on.
- 12:25Oh God, hold on. Derek, It was in the trash,
- 12:29buddy. It.
- 12:32Was in the trash. I could.
- 12:33See, Tony Rubble comes over and goes.
- 12:37Your boss, he goes, that was in the trash.
- 12:40I'm like, yeah, it was in the trash.
- 12:43He goes, OK, so how many more we got?
- 12:46I said as much as you want. No.
- 12:53Box after box after. Oh my God, guys were taking
- 12:57stuff and put it in their gimmick bag and bringing it.
- 12:59Home. I mean, listen, it's part of the
- 13:01gimmicks. Part of the.
- 13:03Gimmicks listen. I saw just like just like when I
- 13:07do shows now I saw this is in the gimmick bag at the hotel
- 13:11waiting for me. This is at these are in the.
- 13:14Listen, I don't I don't smoke up until the match.
- 13:17Every match is over. If I'm scheduled, let's just say
- 13:21the show is on 1/4 that week or week and a half before.
- 13:24I'll stop smoking and I'll wait and then once that match is
- 13:28over. Guess what?
- 13:30I'll go outside. And I'll smoke or I'll wait
- 13:32right until I get back to the hotel.
- 13:34You know, after you kiss the baby, sign the autographs, take
- 13:36the pictures, you know, all the fun stuff.
- 13:38Make the gimmick go, everything. Then you go back to the hotel,
- 13:44you grab yourself a cigar, you cut it, you light it and you
- 13:48hang it outside. That's what I did after the
- 13:49first match. That's what you do.
- 13:51Back to the hotel, I lit up a very nice cigar and I enjoyed
- 13:54the the debut night as I still wound down.
- 13:57And then I felt it three or four days later and my diaphragm hurt
- 14:01for about two weeks because you know, you know you you've ran
- 14:06with him. I'm I'm a little school box up
- 14:09here. I'm not all there.
- 14:10I gotcha. So we I I take the first bump
- 14:16that I take isn't even in the ring.
- 14:18The first bump I take is when the dude runs across the apron
- 14:22and lawn darts himself and I hit the concrete floor, elbow 1st
- 14:25and shoulder first. Then I went to get up and
- 14:28because we didn't get to the back fast enough, he was already
- 14:30back there. So the kid looks and I go and I
- 14:33go kick me, tighten up. He kicks me.
- 14:36I felt it and my my stomach muscles hurt.
- 14:39You know, they hurt for about a week.
- 14:42Everything laughing hurt, everything hurt.
- 14:44But I'll tell you what, I would have did it all over again the
- 14:48next day if I would have been asked to.
- 14:50Amen, brother, but we do. I would do it all.
- 14:53Over the. Next day I people said, would
- 14:55you do it over again? I said if I got a phone call
- 14:57right now and they said to me I need you down in North Carolina
- 15:01by tomorrow night, guess what? We're on the road.
- 15:05Back in my bag and I'm out. See you later.
- 15:06Bye. We're on the road.
- 15:07You better believe it. And that's kind of what I'm
- 15:09doing now, you know, not only with, with the podcast, with
- 15:13wrestling with him, you know, with.
- 15:15I also travel now with A tag team that has appearance deals
- 15:20with the N.W.A. They're they're local guys by
- 15:25me. They're good friends of mine.
- 15:26They've been all over. And you know, he called me one
- 15:29day, goes, listen, I've been driving by myself.
- 15:31You want to ride with me because his, his partner rides with his,
- 15:34with his family. I'm like, yeah, let's go.
- 15:37I mean, I jump in the car. I've been to Jersey, I've been
- 15:40up to up here somewhere in Albany.
- 15:42I went to AI, was supposed to go to Amsterdam last week.
- 15:46I got to go back out in in January.
- 15:49I'm scheduled with him to ride all the way out to barnegate out
- 15:52by the shore in Jersey. And then I got to go to I'm
- 15:58supposed to go to Outlaw Wrestling on the 29th of this
- 16:02month in Elmsford at Captain Lawrence Brewing.
- 16:06That's a fucking ride. You better make sure the cigars
- 16:08are lit. I don't know when he's in my
- 16:11car. I don't smoke.
- 16:12I smoke with. Him in my car.
- 16:14Yeah, he's he's, he's a every occasional smoker.
- 16:17Like, you know, if it's a special occasion, he'll ask me
- 16:20what I have. Like, there was a few times I
- 16:22was, I was with him and he was like, what do you have for me?
- 16:24He goes, I want a cigar. I'm like, well, what do you
- 16:26want? Right.
- 16:28And then I was like, all right, you know what?
- 16:29You don't smoke that much. So take this, Take this, take.
- 16:31I gave him like four or five. I'm like, here, go share him
- 16:33with your friends. Have fun.
- 16:36Give him something, Connecticut. Give him something like.
- 16:38Yeah, OG has. A question, so I'm gonna turn it
- 16:41over to this guy here with the weird pom pom on his hat.
- 16:45Hey, I like that. Oh, Santa's balls on your head.
- 16:48All right. At least, at least they're not
- 16:50on your chin. He needs them back next.
- 16:52Week. At least they're not on his
- 16:53chin. So, Gary.
- 16:56That's another show. That's for another website.
- 17:01Different website got to be 18 or older.
- 17:03Click. Subscribe to 99.
- 17:08Derek, it's me, the OG. I'm Dennis, by the way.
- 17:11I listen, I, I hooked up with these guys here on Instagram.
- 17:15Probably a year ago now, right? Something like that.
- 17:17Something like that and. My condolences.
- 17:20I'm just a wrestling fan. I'm a cigar affectionato, just
- 17:24we kind of hooked up on the podcast and met in person for
- 17:27the first time. Like I said about a year ago and
- 17:29ever since then we've been, these guys are my best friends
- 17:32and we're having a blast doing it.
- 17:33So I want to I'm saying that because it's great having you on
- 17:37to get a another wrestler's perspective of things.
- 17:41So my first question is, how long have you known?
- 17:45That guy. Holy shit.
- 17:48And she. Said that?
- 17:49No, listen, he answered. Said that?
- 17:51He answered with the Holy shit. That's how you know it's been
- 17:54cool. So.
- 17:55How? He said.
- 17:56That he said that. So how long have you known?
- 18:01How how long have you known a big dog?
- 18:03And tell me one of your best stories of.
- 18:06Well, sorry, the best stories that went in New York when we
- 18:09had the case. The case of the cricket, the.
- 18:11One in Ogdensburg, and they stole the cases of beer.
- 18:14That's the that's literally that is the best and and that was a
- 18:18shoot that was a total shoot. We we, it was.
- 18:24Yeah. Hold on.
- 18:26The stories I've heard over the years of about.
- 18:29Him And so Derek, I just want, I would just want our viewers to
- 18:32kind of know understand your relationship, how long you've
- 18:35known him and how you know being on the road together and all
- 18:38that kind of jazz, a little bit of background about you, you 2
- 18:42together. So you know, especially growing
- 18:46up in New England, you always had great wrestling in New
- 18:48England. Like I said, with Killer
- 18:49Kowalski being around and all his guys coming out, I was very,
- 18:54very fortunate to go to an indie show that Tony and Kevin
- 19:01Sullivan were running. At the time.
- 19:02It was in Lynn, right around the corner from my house.
- 19:05So I remember going there and remember introducing myself to
- 19:09Tony and introducing myself to Kevin.
- 19:12And as a matter of fact, to this day, I'm still like great
- 19:14friends with Ricky Santana. We actually hang out a lot in
- 19:17Tamper and smoke. Cigars.
- 19:20So I would say, holy shit, early 90s, early 90s, yeah, yeah
- 19:30'cause, I mean we've been, I went for.
- 19:34For I can't tell you how long people don't realize that me and
- 19:37Derek Deuce shout out to my man D3.
- 19:42You heard shout out to my man D3.
- 19:45Right there. Listen, we've been friends for
- 19:49so long. That joke, remember, remember
- 19:54when, when when I came there, when I came, when I came to
- 19:59N.W.A. And Tony goes, Tony goes, he
- 20:04goes, you're not wearing that stuff.
- 20:07I was like, why he goes, he goes, now we're going to change
- 20:11you to the Moon Dogs, he goes, we're going to change you to the
- 20:16Moon Dogs. I was like, what do you mean,
- 20:19Tony? He goes.
- 20:22Get yourself a fucking shirt that's cut off he goes.
- 20:29Get everything, he goes. Get the IT was a cut.
- 20:31It was the cut shirt, the overalls.
- 20:35It was something. It was another gimmick that he
- 20:36wanted you to have because the 90s were all about gimmick the
- 20:40dog. Bone.
- 20:40That dog the bone. Yeah, that's what it was, the
- 20:42dog bone. Yes, I will say you know and
- 20:45it's funny you bring that up because you know when the
- 20:48opportunity you know came for me to wrestle with him, he changed
- 20:53up his gimmick. And you know I can't lie.
- 20:55Me being the the kid I was you know watching him wrestle in the
- 21:00ripped up Jean shorts, the cut off shirt, you know, the dog
- 21:04bone. That's what I wanted him to come
- 21:05out as I did. I'm not going to I'm not going
- 21:08to sit here and say I didn't you know the the kid in me wanted to
- 21:11team with the the guy that you know I watched growing up.
- 21:15You know what? And and I understand and I I
- 21:18listen, I get it. You got to move with the times
- 21:20you got to you know you got to adapt.
- 21:24But I think me being me, you know, being the the kid I am the
- 21:28the guy that was around him all those years.
- 21:31You know that's the that's the character that I knew and that's
- 21:35what I wanted to to come out with me.
- 21:38We. Were.
- 21:38Yep. For Connecticut, right.
- 21:41So Remember, Remember when Jim Cornette was there, right?
- 21:46And Wild Garden, OK, right? So, so my wife says, hello, is
- 21:54Dave there? And they go, who's Dave?
- 21:57And they go Big Dog. Look, he's laughing.
- 22:02They're like, they're like, who's who's Dave?
- 22:05And then like my husband and they're like, oh, sure, let me
- 22:12figure that out. And Jim turns around and Jim
- 22:15goes, you talking about Big Dog. And they go, yeah, we're talking
- 22:20about Big Dog. And they go, Oh yeah, he's up in
- 22:22the locker room. I was with Bundy, Snooker and
- 22:27all those guys and all of a sudden I'm like, it's like, yo,
- 22:35Dave, your wife is looking for you wife's.
- 22:39Looking. For me, they're like, yeah,
- 22:42they're like, she asked for Dave.
- 22:45Brother, I've known you for 30 years.
- 22:46I've never called you, Dave. Ever.
- 22:51Never. I've known you for 30 years.
- 22:53I've never called you by your first name.
- 22:55No, it's we brought up Ogdensburg and and Joel because
- 22:59guess who just texted me while I'm sitting here to send me his,
- 23:01his comedy video that he posted on Instagram.
- 23:08And I said, yo, by the way, I said we're filming with we're
- 23:11filming with Derek. I said, you know we're filming
- 23:14with D3. He goes, oh that's awesome.
- 23:15He goes, I said we just told the story about Ogdensburg.
- 23:18He goes, no, did you really? He goes, oh, I can't wait to
- 23:20watch that one. So Derek, on that note we're
- 23:27going to take a a break and we're.
- 23:29Going to take a quick. Break.
- 23:30That's all we need to know. And of course.
- 23:32Don't go anywhere. Don't go.
- 23:34We'll be we'll be right back we'll.
- 23:36Be. Hey, this is Michelle from Park
- 24:06Lane on Tobacconist. Come on down for a great
- 24:08selection of pipe, tobaccos, cigars, accessories, you name
- 24:12it, come on down and check this out.
- 24:14I want to thank Turnbuckles and Stokies for promoting us on
- 24:17their program and back to them at MBR Radio.
- 24:34All right. Hey, everybody.
- 24:35We are back turnbuckles and stogies.
- 24:37We got our special guest here, Derek Dukes.
- 24:41What's up, Derek? What's up, baby boy?
- 24:43Listen, I can't thank you again enough for jumping on here.
- 24:47This is fantastic. I I have been a wrestling fan
- 24:50all my life. I tell you though, when I got
- 24:53hooked was when I was about 8 years old and I I don't remember
- 24:59what promotion was came in, but it came into a little place
- 25:02called the Mechanicville City Center, right in downtown
- 25:05Mechanicville at that time, population 4000, you know what I
- 25:09mean? You know that that big?
- 25:13But I got to see. I got to see these guys live and
- 25:16in person. And of course, the very first
- 25:17wrestler that comes up to me is of course Big John Studd.
- 25:21And that dude's hand was the size of my body.
- 25:24It wasn't even. It was, it was not right.
- 25:27And there was just Tony Atlas was mind boggling.
- 25:32What a huge. Oh, now, now let me.
- 25:34Back in the 80s. Let me tell you, I'm sure Derek
- 25:36has some stories. Let's just say TA in person is
- 25:41an absolute sweetheart and. Funny.
- 25:44As can be. I met him in person for the
- 25:48first time in the 2300 arena. I did finds.
- 25:52We did, me and him. We did Feinstein's Icons of
- 25:55Wrestling. Oh, excellent.
- 25:58Great team we brought in, got local guys.
- 26:01Buff Bagwell was actually sitting next to us, by the way,
- 26:04again. Another another sweet.
- 26:05Sweetheart of a man. I mean me and him sat there and
- 26:08you know I can say for the first time in a long time you know he
- 26:13was one of the guys that I I marked out for but not marked
- 26:18out to the fact of like oh I need an autograph marked out
- 26:21more for the for the stories. You know brothers next to each
- 26:25other and just, you know, had conversations and and we're just
- 26:29talking about Japan. Yep, brother.
- 26:31Let me let me tell you something.
- 26:33We all started. We all started as marks.
- 26:36I don't see what I don't care what Any.
- 26:38No, no, no, no, no. No.
- 26:41No. No, I don't care what.
- 26:43I don't care what anyone says. Don't care what anyone says.
- 26:46Listen, you were in the crowd watching wrestling.
- 26:49You know and and that's and I've always said you know and even
- 26:52the guys now that I ride with always say you can't lose that.
- 26:55You know I I again you came up in that I came up you know
- 26:59around you guys growing up. So I was always told you know
- 27:03try not to you know mark out and take pictures with these guys
- 27:06and stuff like that. I was always told.
- 27:08That old school, old school. That's just the way that I was
- 27:11brought up, you know. Now I did a show up here and Jay
- 27:14Lethal was up here. One of my best friends.
- 27:17One of my best friends. When I was up at the promotion
- 27:20the the dynasty up here, they had Jay up here doing an
- 27:23appearance. Great people, good people
- 27:25walking. Around.
- 27:26And I kind of stood there and the guy I was riding was like,
- 27:28yo, why didn't you go get a picture?
- 27:30I said could I said that was the way I was.
- 27:32He goes, listen, he goes, you know what?
- 27:34He goes, it's too short to not have these memories.
- 27:37He goes 100%, you know, so like I have a picture.
- 27:43Of. No, no, no.
- 27:45I have a picture from the first show that I did from when I when
- 27:49I debuted and it's me, it's me, him, my dad magic and crazy
- 27:59Ivan. You know and just to be in that
- 28:03picture you know with and I I say this because of you know
- 28:09what they've done icons and and legends of the the independent
- 28:13scene. Just believe it.
- 28:15Who did in that picture? And to be able to say I wrestled
- 28:18with him, I wrestled on the same card as Magic as as Crazy Ivan,
- 28:22you know, it was, it was cool for me, you know.
- 28:25And even Crazy Ivan reconnected through a local promoter by us
- 28:29'cause he booked Crazy Ivan and he he was looking at me.
- 28:33He goes, that's I was like, you know, not that and not I just
- 28:37didn't know who he was. I was too young at the time to
- 28:38know who he was. So he's like, that's Ivan.
- 28:42I'm like, OK, I'm like, I don't know who that is.
- 28:46It wasn't a knock on him or nothing.
- 28:47I was just young at the time to know who that was.
- 28:50You know, growing up, I didn't know who he was now.
- 28:52So we got to do commentary that night on the show that they did
- 28:56in the mall. And the match that ironically we
- 28:59got to call was crazy Ivan's match at sea.
- 29:04You know, I kind of said to him, I'm like, I'm just going to let
- 29:07this, you know, I I commentated here and there.
- 29:10But, you know, I was like, when it came to Ivan, I kind of did
- 29:13the, you know, that's crazy Ivan.
- 29:14I'm like, hey, didn't you wrestle with him for a long
- 29:16time? I said, I'll let you talk about
- 29:18him. And I called the little, you
- 29:21know, I called the spots here and there.
- 29:22But I just kind of let him. I'm like, that's your guy.
- 29:25You know him well enough. You talk about him, talk him,
- 29:29talk him up, do what you have to do to make these people love
- 29:31him. At the end of the day, you.
- 29:33Know, you know, Crazy Ivan. Just like I do, this
- 29:38motherfucker comes out here. I actually have the the pitcher.
- 29:42Yes, he comes out here like, yo, I'm the man.
- 29:47Like he his. I will say you know his his
- 29:51gimmick is is absolutely fantastic.
- 29:54I mean, from top to bottom, you know he is.
- 29:58He keeps that kayfabe from the time he hits that curtain until
- 30:04the time he walks back through. 100%.
- 30:07You know and and to see that that's still a thing.
- 30:13You know, I mean obviously it's it's always going to be a thing.
- 30:15But to see that there are still guys that carry that from start
- 30:20to finish, at least until they walk back in the curtain.
- 30:22And then when you go back out, you know whether it's it's
- 30:25gimmicks or it's pitchers or it's anything.
- 30:27You still have that that gimmick whether you're in street clothes
- 30:30or not, that's still kind of you keep that from start to.
- 30:33Finish you're you're still. You're still who you are to the
- 30:36people who see you. Correct so.
- 30:39Derek, I got another question for you.
- 30:40Please. I've asked, I've asked Big Dog,
- 30:42and I asked Shelly the same question.
- 30:44That very first time that you come through the curtain.
- 30:48Can you put it in words? No, I and you know, it's funny.
- 30:53It's obviously a rush, right? It's your mind.
- 30:58Your mind just goes blank because you're playing a
- 31:00Persona. So if you're standing, you're
- 31:03standing in Gorilla and you're waiting and your music hits and
- 31:07you become the person who you have been working your ass off
- 31:12in the professional recording business to be, and when the
- 31:14crowd listen, if they do you, you're doing your job.
- 31:18If they cheer you, you're doing your job.
- 31:21If you come out and no one does anything, you better change your
- 31:23shit up because you need not doing something right.
- 31:25You know absolutely and and to attest to what you're saying,
- 31:29you know. Is is the thing, Derek.
- 31:33So you and I, we've been through this business for 30 years.
- 31:38Yep. OK, 30 years.
- 31:41My son. My son right here.
- 31:45This is the This is the new Untouchables.
- 31:49The legacy. You know, and I I kind of, I
- 31:52said to him, I said, listen, whether how long this lasts or
- 31:54not, I knew his partner very well, Dino, I've known his.
- 31:59So I called his son. I said, listen, it's Justin.
- 32:02I got it. I said I'm asking you out of
- 32:04respect. I said we want to use that same
- 32:07name. I said I'm calling you, you
- 32:10know, to get your blessing. I said I'm never going to fill
- 32:12your father's shoes. I said, and I don't plan to by
- 32:14any means. I said because again, you know
- 32:17the that tag team has had three incarnations.
- 32:20It's been the original, which was him and Dino as the
- 32:25Untouchables. Then it was him and Dino's son,
- 32:29the product. Justin, for the second
- 32:31incarnation, and now it's me. You know, I I don't plan to.
- 32:37I don't plan to, you know, fill that void.
- 32:40And I said, I'm never going to fill your father's footsteps.
- 32:42I said, and I also have too much respect for your father to, you
- 32:46know, try to be that guy. I said, am I going to absolutely
- 32:50take it and run with it and give it my, you know, 110?
- 32:53Percent and set that bitch on fire.
- 32:55Yes. If you and if you don't you're
- 32:57doing something wrong. You know and and you can you
- 33:00know and and like we said before about the the coming through the
- 33:02curtain you know I was at barn smoker in PA last year and the
- 33:10guy that's a a good friend of ours is also very good friends
- 33:14with Gene Snitsky. I love Gene.
- 33:17I love Gene. So Gene came, you know, we were
- 33:19getting ready to leave. And he goes, well, Gene's
- 33:21coming. I said, all right, well, if
- 33:23Gene's coming, you know, I'll, I'll stay and hang out.
- 33:26You know, it's my first time meeting him.
- 33:27But you know, I didn't. Oh, man.
- 33:29Now we sat there, we had a regular conversation, you know,
- 33:33and we talked about, because I said I've gotten this question a
- 33:36lot, the same question. We were just talking about it.
- 33:37When you walk through that curtain, he goes, you can't
- 33:40explain it to somebody who's not, you know, he said.
- 33:45You could be running on ass, low level fumes, empty, your body
- 33:50could be hurt. But guess what music?
- 33:53The minute that music hits and you hit that aisle.
- 33:55Yes, 100% and that's it. Just hold on.
- 33:59It it probably doesn't come anywhere close in the sense of
- 34:02wrestling because obviously I I never wrestled, never aspired to
- 34:06be a wrestler. I've told these guys I've always
- 34:08wanted to be a manager. That was always my dream to be a
- 34:12wrestling manager. But on the sense of coming out
- 34:14of the curtain, the closest I've ever come was my high school
- 34:18team played the state championship at Cooperstown at
- 34:20Double Day Field. That was a baseball fan to me,
- 34:24That cathedral, that was amazing.
- 34:26That's your cathedral. That was my yeah, 100.
- 34:30Percent coming down coming down that tiny little gravel tunnel
- 34:34out into double day field would an an experience that I can't
- 34:39really put into word. No, it would.
- 34:41It really was like church at a whole different level coming.
- 34:46Up. No.
- 34:46And I I can attest to that. Even having played football for
- 34:49so many years, you know, and that walk from, if you're
- 34:54playing at home at the high school, right, we have no tunnel
- 34:56going out. That walk from the time you walk
- 35:01out of those gym doors, out of the locker room and you walk to
- 35:06that field is the same way to me as hitting, getting to that
- 35:14curtain, hearing my music hit and walking through.
- 35:17So. Walk that.
- 35:19Out, baby. And that's exactly, you know how
- 35:21I took it? Because you know, and and like
- 35:23you said, if they're booing you, you're doing your job.
- 35:25If they're cheering, you're doing your job.
- 35:27We debuted in that company. I I don't know if you happen to
- 35:30watch the video, 'cause there was no OK, so the entrance
- 35:33wasn't there. Our music hit.
- 35:38We've never worked for this company.
- 35:40We've never shown face in this company.
- 35:42We've never done a run in. We were new guys that music hit
- 35:47and within seconds they booed us.
- 35:50You're doing your job. And I grabbed him.
- 35:53And I and you know this as well as I do, when that music hits,
- 35:56you want to walk right through. I grabbed him like by the bottom
- 36:00of his shirt. And I just went, yo, I said just
- 36:03listen. I said take 5 seconds and
- 36:05listen. Give it a.
- 36:06Give it a second. And he listened.
- 36:08Listen. Go.
- 36:10Listen, he went, oh shit, I was like, Yep.
- 36:14Oh yeah, now. Now I've seen video.
- 36:18I've seen video of that match. This man is a big man.
- 36:21I I'm, I'm going to do a real quick story.
- 36:23So the first time I met these guys again, it was on Instagram.
- 36:26Never met him in person. Finally went down.
- 36:29They invited me to their home. I went down and met them.
- 36:31He's sitting down when I get there.
- 36:33Watch comes up. You know how it works with tall
- 36:35guys in the business, Derek A. Formal introduce or whatever.
- 36:38I come over and I I go to shake his hand.
- 36:40He stands up and I'm like. Oh shit, that's like the David
- 36:46and Goliath stared down to the room like a young story because.
- 36:50Now I'm watching the video of his match.
- 36:52I hear about his match, how he takes his opponent and launches
- 36:55him over the top row. What he didn't tell me was he
- 36:58didn't just launch him. He put him on the fucking space
- 37:01shuttle and I'm sure his head bounced off the ceiling.
- 37:04Now now you know. I was like, Oh my God, he's
- 37:08going to the kids, going to die. Now, now you know Derek and you
- 37:12can say this as well as I do, you know, and I've I've had,
- 37:15I've said this to these guys and he knows obviously, because he's
- 37:18the one that taught me everything.
- 37:19I know. You know, I've had people watch
- 37:21that match back and go, dude, you really do command that ring.
- 37:25Like you've been there for, you know, 20 years.
- 37:28I'm like, but that's the way I was brought up.
- 37:30I said, you know, I got in that ring.
- 37:33I said, and I'm not going to lie, I felt at home.
- 37:37I said I I got right in between those ropes when it was my time
- 37:41to drag in. And I said I I felt like that's
- 37:46where I belonged. That was my home.
- 37:49And you knew you were there. I I knew it was like, you know,
- 37:53you know, and and I don't know if it's just me, but you know
- 37:56when you're standing on the outside waiting for that tag,
- 37:59whether it's your first match or a company you're just coming
- 38:01into that nerve is there. That nerve is like this, you
- 38:06know. So I got that tag and it was
- 38:09like I got in that ring and I just looked, I looked for a
- 38:11second, I said OK, it's Showtime.
- 38:14Time to. Go to work.
- 38:15And that's and I said to somebody else, that's literally
- 38:18what it is. I said they go, yeah, but how
- 38:20does it feel? I said you walk into that
- 38:22building before the show. I said you punched the clock.
- 38:25I said you do your match. I said, And you punch out.
- 38:27I said that's it. I.
- 38:29Said. It's just like a regular job, I
- 38:31said. Except I get paid to beat people
- 38:33up. Right.
- 38:34And but you know, yeah, I said I get paid to beat people up for
- 38:37fun and we all have a great time afterwards.
- 38:40So you know and that kid and and you know you know how when
- 38:46you're in the back and you're talking stuff over hey listen
- 38:49you're going to do I'm going to do this to you.
- 38:50This guy's going to do this to you you know and and he's going
- 38:53to do this. So the original, the original
- 38:56plan and I've I've said this numerous times over Instagram
- 38:59lives to many different people. If I didn't tell you what I'm
- 39:02going to tell you you think that was regular spot.
- 39:04That kid was supposed to go up for a powerbomb after he
- 39:08powerbombed him. That kid was supposed to go up
- 39:11for a powerbomb, if you'll watch.
- 39:14When I lifted him, I lifted him straight up and then he tried to
- 39:18get fancy and go over me, so and it just a natural reaction.
- 39:26I catch him and I catch him in the razor's edge.
- 39:30Oh, except I looked at him and I was like, bro, tuck your chin,
- 39:37you're going for a ride. I said I got to give them
- 39:39something high impact and I felt bad because I I thought
- 39:44honestly, and I'm not going to lie, I I've said this to people.
- 39:47I wasn't sure if he was hurt or not.
- 39:49I said, but thankfully he knew to take that bump very high.
- 39:53I said because if he didn't know anything and he was green like I
- 39:57was and didn't know what he was doing, you know, he or he was
- 40:00just new, he wouldn't have known how to take that.
- 40:03Right. Thankfully that kid, you know, I
- 40:06did walk over to him because I I backed in the corner with him
- 40:09and I'm like, holy shit, I think I just killed this kid because
- 40:13you see that your first instinct is, oh shit, I broke his neck.
- 40:17His neck is broken. I was over to him.
- 40:20Tell us about your first match again, Tony Rumble.
- 40:24Will go to that. Tell us about how you yourself
- 40:30got into the rest of the world. And then moved over just cigars.
- 40:36So working for Tony, which was awesome.
- 40:38Learning the basic look, not, not even the basics.
- 40:40Learning everything about the ring.
- 40:42Learning to be the ring general and learning this and teaching
- 40:46that. Listening to, listening to the
- 40:48guys who have been there, you know, listen to people like
- 40:50Jason Rumble, Listen to people like Slick Wagner, Brown, Luis
- 40:56Ortiz, You know, you listen to the guys who are right there and
- 41:01you and you listen to the thing. And of course, I was really 100%
- 41:06lucky that the day that I was going to do my first match, Taz
- 41:12and Tommy Dreamer happened to be there.
- 41:15The Human suplex machine, but he.
- 41:17Wasn't Taz. He was the Tasmaniac, right?
- 41:21So listening to them and listening to them talk and then
- 41:23of course getting to know them and listening to them what they
- 41:29do and how they do their thing. So I was, I was a a fucking, I
- 41:34was a a mess because it's my first, OK, we're going to go out
- 41:37there in front of people and it was nerve wracking, but it's
- 41:43scary nerve wracking. But the minute you, the minute I
- 41:47hit that aisle and they didn't know who I was, but of course in
- 41:50the Indies they either cheer or Boo the shit out of people,
- 41:53well, I got cheered. I got cheered, which I was like,
- 41:55OK, whatever. And I happened to be playing the
- 41:59heel at the time. Well, in case you couldn't
- 42:04guess, my first match was also playing a heel just just because
- 42:07I had a mouthpiece to walk out before me playing.
- 42:11The heel. I was supposed to be the I was
- 42:14supposed to be the heel. And then they clap you like
- 42:16you're a babyface. Then the babyface comes out.
- 42:18Now you got to be an asshole. So now you poke fun and you use
- 42:23thumbs and you do shit and you do that.
- 42:25I remember going out back after my first match and they they
- 42:28were like, OK, well do this instead of this, do this instead
- 42:31of this, do that instead of that, do this instead of that
- 42:34and listening every time and every time.
- 42:36So getting to excuse the terminology ring, Ross, because
- 42:41I I didn't have any Ross. I just didn't know what the hell
- 42:43I was doing. But learning and taking bumps
- 42:48and it was great because Taz and Dreamer talked to me very well.
- 42:53So that's when they were like, hey, listen, you know we do our
- 42:55thing over here in in in Pennsylvania if you want to stop
- 42:59by, love to. Absolutely.
- 43:03So I drive to Pennsylvania to the ECW Arena, not the 2300,
- 43:08whatever the fuck it is. I it's it's always going to be
- 43:12ECW Arena on the corner of Swanson.
- 43:15I mean 1997 to 2001. I worked for that company.
- 43:18I I. They introduced me to Paul
- 43:20Heyman, and Paul Heyman took a liking to me, introduced me to
- 43:25Pauls Mahoney and Chris Candido, who happened to be collegiate
- 43:29rustlers. Candido.
- 43:31He's another one gone too soon. And I remember that I was in.
- 43:37I was in, I was in Jersey and Candido and and John, excuse me,
- 43:43balls lived in Jersey. And I remember taking bumps in
- 43:46Candido's backyard in this Oh my God, this ring was like.
- 43:53Candy but. Hang on.
- 43:55I gotta. I gotta.
- 43:56Just my neck. Hang on.
- 43:57Hold. You gotta.
- 43:57Crack that neck. You oh crack.
- 44:00That neck, right. 'Cause Candido's ring was just
- 44:03like taking bumps on on concrete.
- 44:06I did that and taking anything from John, from balls and taking
- 44:11anything from ball. And he was an unbelievable
- 44:13worker. And I remember my first time I
- 44:19did a dark match at the ECW Arena and I went up against.
- 44:25Coschetti. Oh, he's he's another talent.
- 44:29That is just it. Trained by Dad.
- 44:32Trained in the Dojo. He's making his in ring return
- 44:35for Creative Pro in Long Island. Wow.
- 44:38Oh, he's been out a long time. 10 years.
- 44:43He's what Brian Myers is a big ECW guy and he's friends with a
- 44:46lot of those guys. Yep.
- 44:48I think that that's just cool that he's Yep back to do a a a
- 44:52fight. Now the question is, does he
- 44:54stay or does he do this one last match and ride off?
- 44:58I mean you you have a lot of guys like for instance Brian
- 45:01Blue Meanie I love I love Brian I love blue and he he doesn't
- 45:07want to bump anymore I. Don't blame him.
- 45:09No, I don't either. Well, because you can talk about
- 45:13brother. I still have.
- 45:14It's going to make you laugh. He's about to retire, by the
- 45:16way. I'm going to be 50 in two weeks.
- 45:19I still have the same doctor that I had when I was wrestling
- 45:23in the 90s. That's.
- 45:24Cool. And he told me straight out
- 45:27because I was out, I I was out a lot in ECW because they kicked
- 45:31the shit out of you in ECW they do, but.
- 45:35That's how they that's how they know if you can deal with them
- 45:37or not. That's how they know if you can
- 45:38do it. So do you guys remember Big Sal?
- 45:41Oh, Big Sally Graziano. So, so Sal, we went to the arena
- 45:48one night, one afternoon and Spike and I were in the ring.
- 45:52We're screwing around with with 911.
- 45:55We were. And because you know Spike,
- 45:57Spike was 135 lbs. The only one freaking fool used
- 46:01Spike was a little shit. Oh, Spike was Spike was small
- 46:03and 911 was fucking awesome and he was a monster.
- 46:07So we were fucking around 911. And so the ball balls gets in
- 46:13the ring and we're doing the thing, so Sal gets in.
- 46:16So that night at the arena they were going to do, they started,
- 46:20they were going to do this gimmick where the little guy's
- 46:23going to come in and kick the shit out of the big guys.
- 46:27Spike and I hit the ring and that in that afternoon we were
- 46:30doing Spike's acid drop to the big guys.
- 46:36So Sal gets in the ring and he bruh when I tell you he put the
- 46:40boots to me. Oh, like I said, every time I
- 46:46think about ECW, I was there for five years.
- 46:48I have to, I'll. Take it over to UOG and then
- 46:52I'll I'll tie up with him. So so.
- 46:54Derek, I got one question we're going to, I want you to think
- 46:57about this. We're going to take one last
- 46:58final break, but I want you to think about this question before
- 47:01you go to break. When you come back, you
- 47:03mentioned Paul Heyman, my all time favorite.
- 47:06Evil fucking genius is Yes I. Mean.
- 47:09He's beyond genius. I I can't even put it in words.
- 47:12But anyway, before we go to break, I want you to think about
- 47:16this, this question. What is the one piece of advice
- 47:19that Paul Heyman gave you that sticks with you to this day and
- 47:24is instrumental in your career, throughout your career.
- 47:30So one piece of advice that Paul Heyman gave you, we're going to
- 47:32take a quick break, we'll be back and I can't wait to hear
- 47:35your answer. Let's.
- 47:36Take quiet. Fashion.
- 47:38That's the show for today everyone.

- 48:48And we're back. We are back.
- 48:49All right. So Paul Heyman piece of advice
- 48:53that he gave you that just stuck with you and with instrumental.
- 48:57So after my first match with Spike and all them, I remember
- 49:00going out back and I was just destroyed because Sal and 911
- 49:05beat the shit out of us. And I'm thinking to myself
- 49:10because I I mean they, I had two cracked ribs, yeah.
- 49:16Those don't feel very easy. No.
- 49:18And never mind breathing or laughing or even taking a drink,
- 49:21anything. So I remember I was over in the
- 49:23corner and I was just like trying to, trying to take deep
- 49:26breaths because I just, I couldn't breathe through the
- 49:29pain. And Paul comes to me and he put
- 49:31his hand on my shoulder and I put my head up and he looked at
- 49:34me and he goes, you have a good time.
- 49:37I said I had a great time. He goes, do you enjoy this?
- 49:41I go very much. So he goes.
- 49:46The pain will go away, but the feeling will last forever.
- 49:51Yes, Awesome. So, so now you know.
- 49:55Before what I was going to say was, you know back to the the,
- 50:00you know, you knowing him for as long as you've known him.
- 50:02I'm sure you've locked up with him, you know, countless times.
- 50:07So I was in the ring this night. I was in the on the apron
- 50:11waiting for my tag and I happen to see that look and told
- 50:19everybody. I said that was a look I haven't
- 50:23seen, I can tell you since before he retired and and you
- 50:30know there there's a, there's a picture.
- 50:33I don't know if I have it, there's a picture and if not
- 50:37I'll, I'll send it to you. But you can see there's one of
- 50:40him on the inside of the ring and he's wrestling and you can
- 50:45see me sitting on the outside right before I'm ready to tag
- 50:49in. And I'm just watching and I'm
- 50:50sitting there like a kid and then all of a sudden it hit me,
- 50:55was like, oh shit. Out in my turn, My turn.
- 51:00Yeah it was one of those like my turn, I'm next, me next, you
- 51:05know, and and I also I had showed this picture to somebody
- 51:10and and everybody said that I had looked just like him in that
- 51:14ring. They looked, they were like,
- 51:15holy crap, they said, you know what, if you don't have that
- 51:19same, you know, thousand nigh death stare that he has when
- 51:25staring across the ring from somebody.
- 51:28They're like, not. You can't teach that to anybody.
- 51:31You can't teach that natural. You can't.
- 51:34You can't. Stone faced heal and you can't
- 51:38teach that they're like and you just have it, you know.
- 51:42And I'm like and and I've said I've learned that from being
- 51:44around so long from being around the business just from being
- 51:48around the guys that I was around you know coming up and
- 51:52and I don't and I say coming up because I was a kid coming up
- 51:55around them. I grew up in that same same way
- 51:59as you were wrestling in that kayfabe era of like you don't
- 52:02break character till you walk back through that curtain.
- 52:05And the kid came out across from me and the inner child to me was
- 52:09about five. He came out with a can of
- 52:14whipped cream, walked over to me and goes, I'm going to creampie
- 52:19you in the mouth. And I was like, fuck and and you
- 52:22know, the inner child and you just.
- 52:25I. Mean I went back and I was like,
- 52:27shit. And magic goes, what happened?
- 52:29I'm like, I laughed at the guy. He goes, that's what this is
- 52:32about. He goes that's what this
- 52:33company's for. The company was called Funhouse.
- 52:36He goes that's this company is it's about having fun.
- 52:38I said yeah, but he goes, OK, you cracked the smile.
- 52:41He goes, So what? He goes, you came out, you sent
- 52:45the kids home happy, the fans were excited.
- 52:47He goes, and if I run again, I'm bringing you back, which he
- 52:52wound up, you know, getting rid of it and giving it to another
- 52:55company because he just, he didn't want to run the whole
- 52:57promotion by himself anymore. And I don't blame.
- 52:59Eric, The thing is, this K favors, you know, we all know K.
- 53:05Favors the. Thing is, this K favors, you
- 53:10know, like I'm coming out, I'm I'm the asshole.
- 53:15Whatever you want. You know what I mean?
- 53:18Yep. Kayfabe.
- 53:20A lot of these young boys don't understand that.
- 53:25Right. A lot of the a lot of new guys
- 53:26don't have kayfabe. You know a lot and and I can say
- 53:29to that, you know a lot of guys, they're taught how to keep
- 53:33kayfabe. They are.
- 53:35And I'm not going to sit here and say they're not because I I
- 53:37know some of the schools, that's, I know some of the guys
- 53:39that train some of these people and they know how to keep
- 53:43kayfabe. But it's a different it's a
- 53:45different time. The times have changed where the
- 53:48actual guys go on social media and and I'm one of them.
- 53:53I mean I'm not going to sit here and say like, you know, after
- 53:56the show with that kid, when he posted up the pictures of his
- 53:58belts, I, I sent him a message and I say, yo, I can't wait to
- 54:01do this again. I said I can't wait to do this
- 54:04tango again. I said because man, oh man, was
- 54:06it fun. I said and if I hurt you and you
- 54:09know, first thing I did, I said if I hurt you, I apologize.
- 54:12I said, and if not, then we're just going to do it again next
- 54:15time he goes, I can't wait. And listen I'm looking forward
- 54:20to eventually crossing paths with that kid again.
- 54:22Of course, because he knows what he's doing.
- 54:26He and and he really is behind and you know and you could you
- 54:31could say this just as much as I can.
- 54:33A lot of these guys you know they're sweethearts behind the
- 54:36scenes. Like when I when I met Gene that
- 54:40day, it was my first time meeting him.
- 54:42It was like I've known him for, you know, 20 years and I had
- 54:46sunburn. And what does he do when he
- 54:47walks by me? All right kid.
- 54:50I'll see you later. And his wife was there and she
- 54:55was like, Oh my God. I'm so I'm like, no, I fully
- 54:59expected it, 100% knew it was coming.
- 55:01I said I was just hoping he was going to catch me when I was a
- 55:04little more ready for it. I said, but at the same time you
- 55:08know what it was? It was cool to hang out with
- 55:10him. It was cool to finally meet him.
- 55:12And you know that same feeling we talked about of walking
- 55:15through that curtain. You know, I I said to him, I
- 55:18said you get this question probably just as much as I do.
- 55:21And he goes, Yup. And he said you can't And and
- 55:25it's not a knock on anybody. Not in the business.
- 55:27You. Can't put it in words, you.
- 55:29Can't put it in words. You can't explain what walking
- 55:33through that curtain feels like for the first time.
- 55:36You know, and I will say that we are going to North Carolina.
- 55:42We are booked on a show in North Carolina.
- 55:44The Untouchables will be coming a New Bern in May and we may or
- 55:49may not have a guy coming with us, this guy right here with
- 55:53Santa's nuts on his head. And the the advice I gave him is
- 56:00and you'll appreciate this you know he goes because we were we
- 56:03had to promote around last week and he said you know, I mean we
- 56:05could probably make that happen. I said I looked at him and I
- 56:08said this you one shot kid, don't fuck it up.
- 56:10Am I wrong? D is that that's the famous
- 56:14words of every promoter before you walk through that curtain
- 56:17you have it. Don't fuck this up.
- 56:20So plain and simple. My man, right here, the OG cigar
- 56:23tender. What you need to do when you
- 56:27come through that? Well, as your ring announcer,
- 56:30you're, you're the one as an announcer, you're the one
- 56:33keeping the crowd engaged. So as.
- 56:35Gorilla. You got to keep them engaged
- 56:37ring. Announcer my man Gorilla right
- 56:39here. He's going.
- 56:40To come. No, I'm the gorilla.
- 56:41That's Santa's nutsack, that. Can't be my name.
- 56:45I mean that way. The OG nutsack is that.
- 56:49What? There's always there's.
- 56:50Always one thing you want to remember, whether it's a show in
- 56:54front of, and I've done it all, it it's show in front of 15
- 56:56people or 5000 people. That's one thing you want to do
- 57:00forever and ever. What you want to do is keep your
- 57:03stride. Keep with what you're doing,
- 57:05stick to the gimmick, stay with the gimmick and ride it until
- 57:09that bitch falls. Ride it till the fucking wheels
- 57:13fall off and you got to fix it and reinvent it and then you
- 57:15come right back out with. It you do it again.
- 57:17Amen, Derek. So this isn't, this isn't the
- 57:23first part we're going to We're going to cut this off here for
- 57:26the day, ladies and gentlemen. And then next week you'll be
- 57:31seeing Part 2 of this interview where yes, we're going to finish
- 57:34it up the the wrestling conversation.
- 57:36We're going to get into cigars, we promise.
- 57:38You know as as OG said before when you get guys like us on
- 57:43here I know that and and guys like me, even though I'm new I'm
- 57:47I grew up around it. I'm I'm still I'm still that kid
- 57:50at heart. I like hearing the stories and I
- 57:52mean you know just being able to sit here and and you know talk
- 57:56to you and and kind of you know tell everybody what you've done,
- 57:59where you've been and you know life lessons for the boys.
- 58:02Like, that's stuff that people love to hear.
- 58:06Amen. So we're going to end this here
- 58:08this week, folks. TuneIn next week for the New
- 58:10Year's celebration of turnbuckles and stogies.
- 58:15My. Man, with Part 2 of the
- 58:16interview with C3, Derek Dukes, it's it's going to be good.
- 58:23We we're just getting started, ladies and gentlemen.
- 58:26Uh oh uh oh. We're going to have to talk
- 58:29about that on the next episode. Hey, Merry Christmas everybody,
- 58:32and Merry Christmas next week OG out.
