- 0:00Speaker 1: The target of a recent bomb attack in Monaco, tell
- 0:03Speaker 1: CNN that rogue Ukrainian intelligence agents may have been paid
- 0:07Speaker 1: to assassinate him in the wealthy Mediterranean tax haven. Vadim
- 0:11Speaker 1: Yomoulayev survived the powerful blast in June, which also seriously
- 0:16Speaker 1: injured his partner and a child. Speaking in his first
- 0:19Speaker 1: television interview since then, he is now calling on the
- 0:22Speaker 1: authorities in Kiev to step up their investigation. Matthew Chance
- 0:27Speaker 1: has this exclusive report.
- 0:32Speaker 2: It's a super glamorous playground for the super rich. One
- 0:38Speaker 2: of the world's tiniest nations, Monaco promotes itself as a
- 0:42Speaker 2: haven of wealth and tranquility on the picturesque shaws of
- 0:47Speaker 2: the Mediterranean. But one evening in June, as a Ukrainian
- 0:53Speaker 2: born businessman walked home with his family, that carefully manicured
- 0:57Speaker 2: image of security and arm was shattered, plunging the principality
- 1:08Speaker 2: into violence and chaos. Well, this is the exact place
- 1:14Speaker 2: where the explosion took place. You can still see the
- 1:17Speaker 2: impact of the shrap and all the stucco plaster work
- 1:20Speaker 2: here around the door is all fallen off. And you know,
- 1:24Speaker 2: if I lift up the tarp here you can see
- 1:26Speaker 2: the the marble steps and the and the brick work
- 1:30Speaker 2: is all is all shattered. We've also made contact with
- 1:35Speaker 2: the target of the attack and despite his grave injuries,
- 1:40Speaker 2: he's agreed to speak out.
- 1:42Speaker 3: And that.
- 1:44Speaker 4: When the explosion went off, I saw my partner Anna
- 1:46Speaker 4: lying on the steps with badly injured legs. My son
- 1:50Speaker 4: was waving his bloodied arms, and I had burns across
- 1:54Speaker 4: my whole body and was missing pieces of flesh.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and you conflict me, chilling you.
- 1:58Speaker 4: I'm not a confrontational person. I've always tried to avoid
- 2:01Speaker 4: any sharp conflicts, so I don't understand the reason why
- 2:04Speaker 4: this happened.
- 2:06Speaker 2: There's a suggestion in Ukraine, and there are reports in
- 2:09Speaker 2: Ukraine that this assassination attempt was linked to your involvement,
- 2:14Speaker 2: alleged involvement in organized crime. How do you answer that.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I personally have never in my life had anything to
- 2:23Speaker 4: do with that. The Monarcary police also asked me if
- 2:27Speaker 4: my family could be involved, which was almost funny as
- 2:30Speaker 4: everything I own is already registered to my wife and children.
- 2:36Speaker 2: But clearly someone wanted to send a message. This is
- 2:41Speaker 2: the face of the bomber, A thirty nine year old
- 2:44Speaker 2: single mother from Ukraine. Anastasia betazo Oskar, she even recorded
- 2:50Speaker 2: herself planting the device, and what investigators say was part
- 2:55Speaker 2: of a complex international plot they're still trying to unravel.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Well.
- 3:03Speaker 2: These narrow, twisting streets snaking through tiny Monaco are some
- 3:09Speaker 2: of the most heavily surveiled anywhere in the world. There
- 3:13Speaker 2: are more than fourteen hundred surveillance cameras basically watching everything
- 3:18Speaker 2: anybody does, and a police officer for every sixty residents
- 3:23Speaker 2: of the principality. The bombing appears to have been carefully
- 3:26Speaker 2: planned to bypass all of that type security, and Monaco's
- 3:34Speaker 2: police department is now under intense pressure to understand what
- 3:40Speaker 2: went wrong oncrass Multiple theories are being explored. The police
- 3:46Speaker 2: chief admitted that he refuse to elaborate or discuss the
- 3:50Speaker 2: glaring connections with Ukraine and its security services, but in
- 3:57Speaker 2: a Kiev court, those connections have become possible to ignore.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Two men, a serving officer with Ukrainian military intelligence and
- 4:05Speaker 2: a former security agent, now stand accused of executing Anastasia
- 4:10Speaker 2: Bedezovska and burying the Monaco bomber in a shallow grave
- 4:16Speaker 2: after she fled home for the Ukrainian authorities fighting a
- 4:23Speaker 2: bitter war with Russia. It's a potentially embarrassing link that
- 4:29Speaker 2: risks straining relations with its European backet. Ukrainian military intelligence
- 4:36Speaker 2: say the suspects are just criminals, but fueling speculation. Vadim
- 4:44Speaker 2: Yea Malayev is sanctioned by Ukraine for doing business with
- 4:49Speaker 2: its Russian enemies, though he's ruling out any link to
- 4:53Speaker 2: his bombing.
- 4:55Speaker 6: Me.
- 4:56Speaker 4: A sans I can't imagine it had anything to do
- 4:59Speaker 4: with the Ukraine in sanctions against me, because that would
- 5:02Speaker 4: mean our state is potentially engaged in extra judicial executions.
- 5:07Speaker 4: And I just can't believe that.
- 5:09Speaker 2: After the buying, you accuse the Ukrainian security services of
- 5:14Speaker 2: being behind it. Is that still your view?
- 5:20Speaker 4: Prosta, That's not just my view or the facts point
- 5:26Speaker 4: to it, But I think this was a contracted hit.
- 5:28Speaker 4: You someone privately hired military intelligence specialists who know how
- 5:35Speaker 4: to do this, and they took it on for money.
- 5:37Speaker 2: It's at least in both Monaco and Kiev. Investigations are
- 5:43Speaker 2: now in full swing to uncover the facts, including the
- 5:48Speaker 2: possible role of Ukrainian guns for hire or rogue agents,
- 5:53Speaker 2: making one of the world's most glamorous enclaves feel a
- 5:57Speaker 2: lot less secure. Matthew Chance CNN Monaco.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Well a shocking twist in the investigation into a Monaco
- 6:09Speaker 3: bombing attack that wounded a Ukrainian businessman. The woman identified
- 6:14Speaker 3: by Interpol as the suspect in that bombing has been
- 6:18Speaker 3: found shot to death in Ukraine, and authorities say two
- 6:23Speaker 3: men have been detained in connection with her murder. Sine's
- 6:27Speaker 3: Nickpeton Walsh following the latest developments and filed this report.
- 6:33Speaker 6: The startling remarkable story of what seemed to be an
- 6:36Speaker 6: attempted assassination on Ukrainian millionaire in the otherwise peaceful and
- 6:39Speaker 6: luxurious territory of Monaco has taken yet another remarkable twist.
- 6:43Speaker 6: The woman sought by Interpol's Red Notice of being a
- 6:47Speaker 6: prime suspect in this particular crime, Anastasia Berezovska, a thirty
- 6:52Speaker 6: nine year old Ukrainian. While she herself has now been
- 6:56Speaker 6: found dead in her native Ukraine, Ukrainian investigators say that
- 7:00Speaker 6: they noticed her return to the country underlye the first
- 7:03Speaker 6: began looking at bank transfers to her general movements and communications,
- 7:06Speaker 6: so she was talking to her family, but two other
- 7:09Speaker 6: men as well, one a serving Ukrainian intelligence officer from
- 7:13Speaker 6: the main intelligence director and one former law enforcement individual.
- 7:17Speaker 6: They went to see the Ukrainian intelligence officer and he
- 7:21Speaker 6: had appears confessed about this involvement and indeed suggested to
- 7:27Speaker 6: the involvement of the former law enforcement officer.
- 7:30Speaker 5: That man's house was.
- 7:32Speaker 6: Then searched and officials say they found what they thought
- 7:35Speaker 6: was some kind of torture chamber in his basement. They
- 7:38Speaker 6: released a remarkable video of that particular place now as
- 7:42Speaker 6: Berezovskar's body was found, it says according to Ukrainian investigators,
- 7:46Speaker 6: with shell casings alongside of it, and indeed the Ukrainian
- 7:50Speaker 6: intelligence officer confessed to being part to that particular murder.
- 7:54Speaker 5: They are both under arrest.
- 7:55Speaker 6: But Ukrainian officials stay they're still looking for who may
- 7:58Speaker 6: have instigated this particular prime and continuing to investigate a
- 8:02Speaker 6: reminder of how we got here in the first place,
- 8:04Speaker 6: Miss Berezoska was pointed out potentially as the prime suspect
- 8:08Speaker 6: here by Monaco prosecutors who studied CCTV around the residence
- 8:12Speaker 6: where mister jamalive was hit by a bomb carried in
- 8:15Speaker 6: a shopping bag. They noticed a man in the days ahead,
- 8:18Speaker 6: and then just a day before the device went off,
- 8:21Speaker 6: a woman, miss Berezoska. Indeed, police say they traced her
- 8:25Speaker 6: back to Germany, where she was last residence, and now
- 8:28Speaker 6: it appears she fled to Ukraine. A remarkable story here,
- 8:32Speaker 6: one in which it seems that the apparent hit man
- 8:35Speaker 6: was then killed by those who may well have contracted
- 8:38Speaker 6: her to do the job. Investigators still looking for who
- 8:40Speaker 6: may have been on high here. I think certainly an
- 8:43Speaker 6: unwelcome embarrassment for Ukraine that their intelligence officer, one of
- 8:46Speaker 6: them might be involved in something as high profile as
- 8:48Speaker 6: this had assigned. Still too, that the murkiness, the potential
- 8:52Speaker 6: criminal underworld of a former Soviet union still continues to exist,
- 8:57Speaker 6: despite the horrors being inflicted on New Crane by the war.
- 9:01Speaker 5: Exactly why mister yom Alive.
- 9:03Speaker 6: Was indeed targeted still unclear, by a remarkable moment still
- 9:07Speaker 6: for what Monaco considers to be its luxury and safety.
