- 0:36I wonder if you've given something up.
- 0:38If you have good on you, I hope it's not being too difficult,
- 0:42but either way, this is a time when we cast our mind forward
- 0:47and we think about Easter that's coming and we are amazed at
- 0:51Jesus sacrifice for us and we just do these little things
- 0:56through lent to help us remember that.
- 0:59We We journey toward a time of incredible celebration where
- 1:04Jesus gives up everything for us so that we can be with him what
- 1:10a treat. Let's read together, boys and
- 1:13girls. And ladies and gentlemen, Luke
- 1:16chapter 5, One day is Jesus was preaching
- 1:31on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in
- 1:35on him to listen to the word of God.
- 1:37He noticed two empty boats at the water's edge for the
- 1:40fishermen had left them and we're washing their Nets.
- 1:43Stepping into one of the boats. Jesus asked Simon its owner to
- 1:47push it out into the water so we sat in the boat and taught the
- 1:51crowds from there when he had finished speaking.
- 1:54He said to Simon now go out. Where it is deeper and let down
- 1:58your nets to catch some fish Master.
- 2:02Simon replied. We worked hard all last night
- 2:05and didn't catch a thing but if you say so I'll let the Nets
- 2:09down again. And this time their Nets were so
- 2:14full of fish, they began to tear a shout for help, brought their
- 2:18Partners in the other boat. And soon both Boats were filled
- 2:21with fish, on the verge of sinking when Simon Peter
- 2:25realized what had happened? He fell to his knees before
- 2:29Jesus and said, oh, Lord, please the leave me.
- 2:33I'm such a sinful man. For, he was awestruck by the
- 2:37number of fish. They had caught as were the
- 2:39others with him. His Partners James, and John's,
- 2:43the sons of Zebedee were also amazed.
- 2:46Jesus replied to Simon. Don't Be Afraid from now on.
- 2:51You'll be fishing for people and as soon as they landed, they
- 2:55left everything and followed Jesus.
- 2:59In one of the villages Jesus met a man with an advanced case of
- 3:02leprosy when the man saw Jesus. He bowed with his face to the
- 3:07ground, begging to be healed. Lord, he said if you are
- 3:12willing, you can heal me and make me clean.
- 3:16Jesus reached out and touched him.
- 3:19I am willing, he said be healed. And instantly the leprosy
- 3:24disappeared. Then Jesus instructed him not to
- 3:28tell anyone what had happened. He said, go to the priest and
- 3:32let him examine you take along. The offering required in the law
- 3:35of Moses. For those who have been healed
- 3:37of leprosy, this will be a public testimony that you have
- 3:41been cleansed. But despite Jesus instructions,
- 3:45the report of his power spread even faster and vast crowds came
- 3:50to hear him preach and to be healed.
- 3:52Of their diseases, but Jesus often withdrew to the Wilderness
- 3:56for prayer. One day while Jesus was teaching
- 4:01some Pharisees and teachers of religious law was sitting
- 4:04nearby, it seemed that these men showed up from every village in
- 4:08all Galilee and Judea as well as from Jerusalem and the Lord's.
- 4:13Healing power was strongly with Jesus.
- 4:16Some men came carrying a paralyzed, man and a sleeping
- 4:19mat that tried to take him inside the Jesus, but they
- 4:23couldn't reach him because of the crowd.
- 4:25So they went up on the roof and took off some tiles.
- 4:28Then they lowered the sick, man, on his mat.
- 4:31Down into the crowd, right in front of Jesus, seeing their
- 4:35faith, Jesus said to the man, young man, your sins are
- 4:40forgiven, but the Pharisees and the teachers of religious law
- 4:44said to themselves who does he think he is, that's blasphemy.
- 4:49Only God can forgive sins. Jesus knew what they were
- 4:53thinking so he asked them. Why do you question this in your
- 4:57hearts is it easier to say your sins are forgiven or stand up
- 5:02and walk? So I will prove to you that the
- 5:05son of man has the authority on Earth to forgive sins.
- 5:09Then Jesus, turned to the paralyzed, man and said, stand
- 5:13up. Pick up your mat and go home.
- 5:17And immediately as everyone watched, the man jumped up
- 5:21picked up his mat and went to Home.
- 5:23Praising God. Everyone with gripped with great
- 5:27wonder and or and they praised God exclaiming, we have seen
- 5:32amazing things today. Later as Jesus left the town.
- 5:39He saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at his Tax
- 5:42Collectors Booth. Follow me and be my disciple.
- 5:46Jesus said to him, so, Levi, got up left everything and followed
- 5:51him later, Levi, held a banquet in his Home With Jesus as the
- 5:56guest of honor, many of Levi's fellow tax collectors, and other
- 5:59guests also ate with them, but the Pharisees and their teachers
- 6:03of religious law, complained bitterly.
- 6:06Surly to Jesus disciples. Why do you eat and drink with
- 6:10such scum? Jesus answered them, healthy
- 6:14people don't need a doctor sick. People do I have come to call?
- 6:19Not those who think they are righteous.
- 6:21But those who know they are sinners and need to repent.
- 6:27One day, some people said to Jesus, John the Baptist's
- 6:30disciples fast and pray regularly and so did the
- 6:33Disciples of the Pharisees. Why are your disciples always
- 6:37eating and drinking? Jesus replied, do wedding guests
- 6:41fast while celebrating with the groom, of course not.
- 6:46But someday the groom will be taken from them and then they
- 6:50will fast then. Jesus gave them this
- 6:54illustration. No one tears.
- 6:56A piece of old cloth from a new garment and uses it to patch an
- 7:00old garment for. Then the new Garmin would be
- 7:03ruined and the new patch wouldn't even match the old
- 7:06garment and no one puts new wine into Old wineskins for the new
- 7:12wine would burst the wineskins, spilling the wine and ruining
- 7:15the Skins, new wine must be stored in new wineskins.
- 7:20But no one who drinks the old wine seems to want the new one.
- 7:24The old is just fine. Fine, they say.
- 7:38Jesus, you make all things new. And as you shared with that
- 7:43crowd doesn't make sense to put a new patch of cloth onto an old
- 7:48garment or new wine into Old wineskins.
- 7:52Just like it doesn't make sense to try and hem you in or try and
- 7:56squeeze you into a box of understanding in the old system,
- 8:00in our old way of being, because you bring about a whole new way
- 8:05of being a whole new covenant with, we can relate to God in a
- 8:10completely different way. You change everything, Jesus old
- 8:16systems just won't do. And so we shed our old systems,
- 8:21we lay down our old wineskins, our old garments, and we pray
- 8:26that you would not just patch ass up at that.
- 8:28You would transform us so that we can live in the light of your
- 8:33grace. Not always trying to do the
- 8:36right thing to earn our way into your presence and favor.
- 8:40But accepting that is a Gift and responding living in a way.
- 8:46That brings you glory. Chase's.
- 8:49You are a game changer and we love you and we worship you and
- 8:55we are so grateful for you making all things new, that's in
- 9:00your name that we pray. Amen.
- 8:49Chase's. You are a game changer and we
- 8:53love you and we worship you and we are so grateful for you
- 8:57making all things new, that's in your name that we pray.
- 9:02Amen.
