- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and you're here with me again. Luna: Hi Lucas, so good to be back. I've been practicing my body parts from the last few episodes. My pols and my enkel are doing great. Lucas: That's awesome, Luna. You're really building up your Dutch body vocabulary. And today, we're going to add two more important ones. Luna: Let me guess, something for the middle and something for the top? Lucas: Exactly. We have de heup, which means the hip, and de schouder, which means the shoulder. Lucas: Let's start with de heup. Say it with me: de heup. Luna: De heup. De heup. That's fun to say. It sounds a bit like 'hop' but with a 'u'. Lucas: Close enough, Luna. And de schouder. Try that one. Luna: De schouder. De schouder. That one is a little tricky with the 'sch' sound. Lucas: You're doing great. Now, let's put them into a useful phrase. If you have pain in your hip, you say: Mijn heup doet pijn. Lucas: Mijn heup doet pijn. Can you try that? Luna: Mijn heup doet pijn. Mijn heup doet pijn. So that means 'my hip hurts', right? Lucas: Exactly. And for the shoulder, you say: Mijn schouder doet pijn. Lucas: Mijn schouder doet pijn. Luna: Mijn schouder doet pijn. Mijn schouder doet pijn. This is like the phrases we learned for my pols and enkel. Lucas: You're right, Luna. It's the same pattern: 'Mijn doet pijn.' Lucas: Let's do a quick practice. Imagine you're at the doctor's, and you need to say you have pain in your hip, but in a slightly different way. Luna: Like, Ik heb pijn in mijn heup? Lucas: Perfect! Ik heb pijn in mijn heup. That literally means 'I have pain in my hip.' Lucas: And for the shoulder: Ik heb pijn in mijn schouder. Luna: Ik heb pijn in mijn schouder. Okay, that's a fuller sentence, but I like it. Lucas: Now, let's do a tiny scene. Luna, you're the patient, and I'm the doctor. So, what seems to be the problem? Luna: Uh, dokter, ik heb pijn in mijn heup. Lucas: Ah, and anything else? Luna: En mijn schouder doet ook pijn. Lucas: Well, that's clear. Mijn heup doet pijn and mijn schouder doet pijn. You did that really well. Lucas: Let's review all the phrases one more time. We have de heup, de schouder. Luna: De heup, de schouder. Lucas: Mijn heup doet pijn. Luna: Mijn heup doet pijn. Lucas: Mijn schouder doet pijn. Luna: Mijn schouder doet pijn. Lucas: Ik heb pijn in mijn heup. Luna: Ik heb pijn in mijn heup. Lucas: Ik heb pijn in mijn schouder. Luna: Ik heb pijn in mijn schouder. Lucas: You know, Luna, if Fexingo has been helping you make real progress with Dutch, we'd love it if you could support us. Luna: Yeah, it's a small thing that makes a big difference for us. Lucas: A couple of dollars a month really keeps these episodes going, and you can do that at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: And it helps us keep the show ad-free and focused on teaching. Lucas: Alright, back to practice. Now, let's try using these in a little story. So, Luna, imagine you're telling me about an old sports injury. Luna: Okay. Toen ik jong was, viel ik tijdens het sporten. Nu heb ik vaak pijn in mijn heup. Lucas: Oh, that's a nice sentence. But remember, we want to use 'Mijn heup doet pijn' as well. Can you say that? Luna: Ja, mijn heup doet pijn. Lucas: And for the shoulder, what would you say if you hurt it during that same incident? Luna: Mijn schouder doet ook pijn. Lucas: There you go. You just combined everything you've learned today. Lucas: So, to wrap up, let's do one more quick repetition. Repeat after me: de heup. Luna: De heup. Lucas: De schouder. Luna: De schouder. Lucas: Mijn heup doet pijn. Luna: Mijn heup doet pijn. Lucas: Mijn schouder doet pijn. Luna: Mijn schouder doet pijn. Lucas: Ik heb pijn in mijn heup. Luna: Ik heb pijn in mijn heup. Lucas: Ik heb pijn in mijn schouder. Luna: Ik heb pijn in mijn schouder. Lucas: Beautiful. You're getting really good at this, Luna. And listeners, practice these until we chat again. Tot ziens! Luna: Tot ziens!
