Sam and Sue love animals. That's probably why a stray dog wandered right into their house when SOMEBODY left a door open. And it's just a coincidence that Sam has wanted a dog for a very long time, right? The dog makes itself comfortable in their living room and even if Sue doesn't quite approve of it, she can't really drive the dog out into the street.
