  people mean harm. Have you ever had someone in
• 0:15
  your life who seemed determined to bring you down?
• 0:18
  A person driven by jealousy, insecurity, or just plain
• 0:22
  meanness, spreading rumors, turning people against you, or
• 0:26
  actively working to make your life harder.
• 0:29
  It's one of the most disorienting, painful
• 0:31
  experiences, especially when you haven't done anything wrong.
• 0:36
  David lived that reality. First Samuel chapter 19, verses
• 0:40
  11 and 12 describe the moment Saul sent men to David's house
• 0:45
  to kill him. His own wife, Michael, had to
• 0:47
  warn him. If you do not escape with your
• 0:50
  life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.
• 0:53
  This wasn't a difficult relationship or a
• 0:55
  misunderstanding. This was genuine life
• 0:58
  threatening opposition and the reason Saul's jealousy and fear
• 1:03
  of David's calling. Psalm 59, verses 1 and 2 record
• 1:07
  David's honest cry in the middle of that.
• 1:10
  Deliver me from my enemies, Oh my God, protect me from those
• 1:14
  who rise up against me. Deliver me from evil doers who
• 1:18
  speak lies, from those who are violent in their pride.
• 1:21
  He didn't pretend everything was fine.
• 1:24
  He didn't spiritualize the pain and act like it wasn't real.
• 1:28
  He brought it directly to God and he trusted God to respond.
• 1:33
  Proverbs chapter 18 verses 3:00 to 5:00 remind us why this kind
• 1:38
  of opposition exists in the 1st place.
• 1:40
  Wickedness and pride are at the root of it.
• 1:43
  When people operate from contempt, dishonesty or
• 1:46
  arrogance, they cause real damage and the person being
• 1:50
  targeted is not to blame for the wickedness of others.
• 1:54
  What this means for us today? You might be going through
• 1:57
  something that feels deeply unfair.
• 2:00
  You might be dealing with someone who has decided, for
• 2:03
  reasons beyond your control, to make your life.
• 2:05
  Harder. That's.
• 2:06
  Real. That's painful, and God doesn't
• 2:10
  minimize it. But here's what these passages
• 2:13
  are pointing to. You are not alone in it.
• 2:16
  God sees what's happening. He is your protector and your
• 2:19
  defender. And sometimes, like in David's
• 2:22
  case, He uses people around you to help you escape, survive, or
• 2:27
  navigate the situation wisely. He doesn't always remove the
• 2:31
  threat immediately, but He never leaves you to face it alone.
• 2:35
  Trust His protection. Respond with wisdom, not
• 2:38
  retaliation, and keep bringing it to Him in prayer.
• 2:43
  Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
• 2:46
  seeing every situation we're in, especially the ones that feel
• 2:50
  unfair or threatening. When people come against us out
• 2:54
  of jealousy or pride, guard our hearts from bitterness.
• 2:57
  Teach us to respond with wisdom rather than reacting in anger or
• 3:01
  fear. Be our protector and our
• 3:04
  defender, and help us to trust that you are always at work,
• 3:07
  even when we can't see it. In Jesus name, Amen.

  Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to

  him, Don't let the king sin against his servant, against
• 5:12
  David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his
• 5:15
  works have been very good toward you.

  For he put his life in his hand and struck the Philistine.
• 5:21
  And Yahweh worked a great victory for all Israel.

  You saw it and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against
• 5:28
  innocent blood to kill David without a cause?

  Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swore As
• 5:35
  Yahweh lives, he shall not be put to death.

  Jonathan called David and Jonathan showed him all those
• 5:42
  things. Then Jonathan brought David to
• 5:45
  Saul and he was in his presence as before.

  There was war again. David went out and fought with

  the Philistines and killed them with a great slaughter, and they

  fled before him. An evil spirit from Yahweh was

  on Saul as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand, and

  David was playing with his hand. Saul sought to pin David to the
• 6:07
  wall with the spear, but he slipped away out of Saul's
• 6:10
  presence, and he stuck the spear into the wall.
• 6:13
  David fled and escaped. That night Saul sent messengers
• 6:17
  to David's house to watch him and to kill him in the morning.
• 6:22
  Mickle, David's wife, told him, saying, If you don't save your
• 6:25
  life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.
• 6:28
  So Mickle let David down through the window.
• 6:30
  He went away, fled, and escaped. Mikkel took the terrifim and
• 6:35
  laid it in the bed and put a pillow of goat's hair at its
• 6:38
  head and covered it with clothes.
• 6:41
  When Saul sent messengers to take David, she said He is sick.
• 6:45
  Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, Bring him up to
• 6:48
  me in the bed, that I may kill him.
• 6:51
  When the messengers came in, behold, the terrifim was in the
• 6:55
  bed with the pillow of goat's hair at its head.
• 6:58
  Saul said to Mikkel, Why have you deceived me like this, and
• 7:01
  let my enemy go so that he has escaped?
• 7:04
  Mikkel answered Saul, he said to me, let me go, why should I kill
• 7:09
  you now? David fled and escaped and came
• 7:12
  to Samuel at Rama and told him all that Saul had done to him.

  He and Samuel went and lived in Naoth.
• 7:19
  Saul was told saying Behold David is at Naoth and Rama.

  Saul sent messengers to seize David and when they saw the
• 7:27
  company of the prophets prophesying and Samuel standing
• 7:30
  as head over them, God's spirit came on Saul's messengers and
• 7:35
  they also prophesied. When Saul was told he sent other
• 7:39
  messengers and they also prophesied.

  Saul sent messengers again the third time and they also
• 7:45
  prophesied. Then he also went to Rama and
• 7:48
  came to the great well that is in Seku.

  And he asked where are Samuel and David?

  One said, behold they are at Naath in Rama.

  He went there to Naath in Rama. Then God's Spirit came on him

  also and he went on and prophesied until he came to

  and he also prophesied before Samuel and lay down naked all

  that day and all that night. Therefore they say, is Saul also

  They return it evening, howling like dogs and prowl around the

  they say, who hears us? But you, Yahweh, laugh at them,

  You scoff at all the nations. Oh my strength I watch for you,

  for God is my high tower. My God will go before me with

  His loving kindness. God will let me look at my

  enemies in triumph. Don't kill them, or my people
• 9:21
  may forget. Scatter them by your power and
• 9:23
  bring them down, Lord our shield for the sin of their mouth and
• 9:28
  the words of their lips. Let them be caught in their
• 9:30
  pride for the curses and lies which they.
• 9:32
  Utter consume. Them in wrath consume them, and
• 9:35
  they will be no more. Let them know that God rules in
• 9:39
  Jacob to the ends of the earth. At evening let them return.
• 9:43
  Let them howl like a dog and go around the city.
• 9:47
  They shall wander up and down for food and wait all night if
• 9:50
  they aren't satisfied. But I will sing of your
• 9:53
  strength. Yes, I will sing aloud of your
• 9:55
  loving kindness in the morning. For you have been my Hightower,

  a refuge in the day of my distress.

  To you my strength I will sing praises.

  For God is my Hightower, the God of my mercy.
