- 0:47Sunday night CrossFit talk.

- 0:51we went live and my printer decided to
- 0:53clean the jets.
- 0:57We went live.
- 0:59Wow.
- 1:01You're not early.
- 1:01You're right on time.
- 1:03Yeah.

- 1:12awards we're gonna play pencil pen sharpie
- 1:15and bring it back by popular demand but
- 1:18until then how was your guys's weekend
- 1:23mine has just been doing a lot of
- 1:25work like yesterday i was studying for my
- 1:27l three today was all school work um
- 1:32yeah
- 1:35l three yeah i know you were i
- 1:37know you were trying because if you win
- 1:41certain things you got like a free l
- 1:42two or l one and you taught didn't
- 1:45you talk to dave about could that be
- 1:48used or traded in for an l three
- 1:51yeah i've had i've had a few times
- 1:53where i've gone like a free l one
- 1:55or l two in the last few years
- 1:56and then they can also give you um
- 2:00oftentimes I'll be like two or three
- 2:01courses online and I got an L three
- 2:06now to study for.
- 2:07So nice.
- 2:09we'll see how that goes.
- 2:11I can book it from way further away,
- 2:13but I feel like if I start studying
- 2:15now, I'm going to forget.
- 2:16It's like, I just need to cram everything.
- 2:18And then it's like fresh in my mind
- 2:19versus booking it way down the road.
- 2:22Yeah.
- 2:22I'm just having to reread again because
- 2:25like you just forget a few things.
- 2:27Yeah.
- 2:27Like, Oh,
- 2:28that's just the way that my mind works.
- 2:32What a nice guy.
- 2:33He waits until his cohost lions game is
- 2:35finished.
- 2:36I can,
- 2:36that game was over two hours ago.
- 2:38Well, yes,
- 2:39but almost every possession that was
- 2:43freaking amazing.
- 2:44He doesn't always wait for it to be
- 2:46over.
- 2:46Sometimes we go live when it's on or
- 2:48starting.
- 2:50Well, my wife is a big Steelers fan.
- 2:51It's happening right now.
- 2:52We usually watch those things together.
- 2:54So it's a bummer.
- 2:57That's the only bad thing about Sunday
- 2:59Night CrossFit talk is it bumps up against
- 3:01Sunday Night Football,
- 3:03and it is a bit of a bummer.
- 3:05But, hey –
- 3:07This is our time slot,
- 3:08and we're getting good at it.
- 3:10So we're going to figure it out.
- 3:12I'll be back upstairs for the second half.
- 3:14Yep.
- 3:16So speaking of, the Bears,
- 3:18for the eighteenth week in a row,
- 3:20have given me a heart attack.
- 3:22Yes.
- 3:22But come through in the end,
- 3:23and are now six and freaking three.
- 3:26Are you kidding me?
- 3:28Wow.
- 3:29I can't even believe it.
- 3:31Like...
- 3:31I need to see some scores.
- 3:33And now the Bears are like putting their
- 3:37locker room celebrations on Instagram and
- 3:40all that stuff.
- 3:41And Ben Johnson's like,
- 3:43our guy has ice in his veins.
- 3:45And it's just getting me all pumped up,
- 3:47goosebumps, the whole bit.
- 3:49So that was just freaking awesome.
- 3:52Yep.
- 3:53Caleb Williams came through for me again
- 3:55with another twenty five points.
- 3:58I kind of have stopped looking at my
- 4:00fantasy stuff.
- 4:02I don't have good players.
- 4:04Actually.
- 4:04I'm in the lead right now in my
- 4:06mind from this week.
- 4:07You went in this week.
- 4:08That's good so far, but it's not very,
- 4:11it's not looking good.
- 4:12I am crushing Andrew Sten right now.
- 4:14My defense scored two touchdowns this
- 4:16week.
- 4:18I had Jonathan Taylor who scored like.
- 4:21Yeah.
- 4:21Yeah.
- 4:23That's a Wisconsin grad.
- 4:26Yeah, he's unreal.
- 4:28Yeah, JT.
- 4:32We'll see you next week, Ken Walters.
- 4:34Bears-Vikings next weekend.
- 4:38I'll be watching the Bears.
- 4:44I hate the Vikings.
- 4:46Yeah.
- 4:48I've always hated them for some reason.
- 4:51Sometimes even more than the Packers,
- 4:54and that's hard.
- 4:57I was going to say,
- 4:58I thought Packers would be your rival,
- 5:00but yeah.
- 5:03Andrew Sten says, yeah, rub it in.
- 5:07It's been a good week on that side.
- 5:09Yeah, I think I'm up too.
- 5:13On another note,
- 5:14did you guys happen to see any of
- 5:15the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions
- 5:17last night?
- 5:17I did not.
- 5:18I saw that on your list.
- 5:19I didn't see any of it.
- 5:22and i was it was so good there
- 5:24were four bands i was really there for
- 5:27and it was bad company uh who i've
- 5:29seen in concert and i love them it's
- 5:32just a shame that they're so old that
- 5:33only one member could be there to accept
- 5:37and then they do a tribute and then
- 5:39salt and peppa came out with spinderella
- 5:42and they crushed it and then out of
- 5:45nowhere and vogue comes out on the stage
- 5:47and they do what a man
- 5:50with salt and pepper and then kid and
- 5:53play come out.
- 5:55It was like,
- 5:55I was back as a freshman in college,
- 5:58like listening to the jams.
- 6:00It was so good.
- 6:01And then outcast was inducted, uh,
- 6:04who I love from the two thousands and,
- 6:08um, and then sound garden, sound gardens,
- 6:10a major influence in my life.
- 6:13And it's just a shame.
- 6:14Chris Cornell wasn't there, but they had,
- 6:17um,
- 6:20Oh, gosh, Tyler,
- 6:21Taylor Monson from the pretty reckless and
- 6:23bullet.
- 6:24Carlisle.
- 6:27What's your name?
- 6:30Like, I'm just blanking.
- 6:32Randy Carlisle.
- 6:35Oh, for Chris Cornell,
- 6:37and both of them absolutely crushed it.
- 6:42Brandi Carlisle did black hole son and it
- 6:44was phenomenal.
- 6:48Yeah,
- 6:48I saw your post about Salt-N-Pepa and I
- 6:51was like, was he after, like,
- 6:53I was like, did I miss something?
- 6:54Did they have a concert somewhere?
- 6:56No,
- 6:56Julie and I were just watching it and
- 6:58it was like taking us back to when
- 6:59we were first dating and even before that.
- 7:02But I can't have to laugh with the
- 7:07trivia.
- 7:08Taylor Momsen was also Cindy Lou Who from
- 7:10the Jim Carrey Grinch movie.
- 7:12Fun fact.
- 7:13And if you've ever heard the pretty
- 7:14reckless, it is nothing like a Dr.
- 7:16Seuss book.
- 7:18She is phenomenal.
- 7:19Heavy metal singer.
- 7:22Pretty, pretty awesome.
- 7:24One of my favorite bands is the pretty
- 7:26reckless.
- 7:26They're coming to Columbus next May with
- 7:30hail storm and shine down.
- 7:34And I was like, I want,
- 7:35but it's right when semifinals are
- 7:37happening.
- 7:38So it just,
- 7:39it's probably not going to happen, but.
- 7:43They also named Hockey Hall of Fame people
- 7:46this weekend, too.
- 7:48Oh, wow.
- 7:48And one of my ex-teammates, line mate,
- 7:54is in it.
- 7:55So I was happy to see her.
- 7:56Oh, that's awesome.
- 7:57Oh, very cool.
- 8:00Yeah.
- 8:00Yeah, speaking of hockey,
- 8:01MSU beat Penn State this weekend.
- 8:03Wow.
- 8:03Yeah.
- 8:06That's big.
- 8:07It was a really good –
- 8:09sports weekend for michigan state um we we
- 8:13had a bye obviously for football so
- 8:15everything else went great line basketball
- 8:17we won on saturday i had a bye
- 8:20in football lions won and hockey they won
- 8:23so yeah it was good usa spank canada
- 8:27too in the women's rivalry series this
- 8:28weekend so
- 8:30and and for carolyn wisconsin got their
- 8:32first football win in like months again
- 8:35against a ranked team it was like the
- 8:37first time in a few in a couple
- 8:39years i think all right we've been we've
- 8:42been just bad the last few years and
- 8:46like we've always been really good like
- 8:48always a ball game we used to have
- 8:50the rose wall time now we just we
- 8:52just suck
- 8:53Cross that says hockey hall of fame waits
- 8:56way too long for people to get super
- 8:58old to let them in.
- 8:59That's how I feel about the rock and
- 9:01roll hall of fame.
- 9:02Let these people in when they can,
- 9:04they can accept and they can play.
- 9:06Yeah.
- 9:07I mean,
- 9:08some of the hockey ones they named this
- 9:09time have recently retired.
- 9:11So I don't think it's too bad.
- 9:12Yeah.
- 9:18Wisconsin storming the field felt sad.
- 9:23loved it loved it Penn State took Indiana
- 9:25to the brink number two in the country
- 9:28Indiana if and I and I swear that
- 9:31the kids would have stormed the field and
- 9:33it would have been like pathetic you've
- 9:35lost five in a row you don't deserve
- 9:37to storm the field right now it's weird
- 9:43seeing Florida dominating in hockey
- 9:45Panthers and lightning it is kind of a
- 9:48little weird
- 9:51I mean,
- 9:51they have a bunch of Canadians on their
- 9:53team, so.
- 9:53Yeah.
- 9:55The Penguins have looked good this year.
- 9:57They weren't picked to do well,
- 9:58but they look good.
- 10:02I haven't watched too much NHL so far
- 10:04this year.
- 10:05I have a little bit of the Habs.
- 10:07I'm a Habs fan and they're doing well
- 10:09this year.
- 10:10I just have a second TV.
- 10:11I throw up sports while we're watching
- 10:13other stuff.
- 10:14So I just glanced at it while I'm
- 10:16going through it.
- 10:17But yeah.
- 10:20I think that's part of an addiction,
- 10:21but we'll see.
- 10:25All right.
- 10:28And the funniest thing this week is I
- 10:31have this AI tool that I now make
- 10:33reels with.
- 10:34I just plug our show into it.
- 10:36It picks reels and cuts them for me.
- 10:39It saves me a ton of time.
- 10:41And so I just put them up throughout
- 10:42the week.
- 10:43Our biggest reel this week was Corey and
- 10:47I talking about the chicken,
- 10:50whether they need to rooster or for the
- 10:53egg to be fertilized or how that works.
- 10:56it got way more views than any other
- 10:58reel i put up isn't that wild that's
- 10:59so strange wow like is it people is
- 11:05it just other people outside of space
- 11:07catching it and finding it i don't know
- 11:09like you just get shared to like one
- 11:12place that it takes off or yeah that's
- 11:15crazy yeah crazy you guys have some
- 11:20interesting conversations
- 11:23Yeah,
- 11:23we're begging for a Sriracha sponsorship.
- 11:25I know.
- 11:27I will not be helping you.
- 11:31Oh, I love that stuff.
- 11:33Every day for breakfast.
- 11:34It's crazy.
- 11:39We all had to watch it several times
- 11:40to make sure that's what all the real
- 11:43was.
- 11:45Yeah.
- 11:48It's because they can circumvent the cap
- 11:51with no state income tax in Florida.
- 11:53I lived in Florida for four years.
- 11:54That is a very nice perk.
- 11:56No state income tax makes the check a
- 11:59little bit bigger.
- 12:02About fifteen percent bigger.
- 12:06Nice.
- 12:06Yeah.
- 12:08So the last thing I wanted to talk
- 12:10about, and I don't have the link.
- 12:14I'm so bad today.
- 12:16The weather is killing my sinuses.
- 12:18But Holly built a document after last
- 12:22Sunday's show that she broke down every
- 12:27single semifinal and everything she could
- 12:30find on it and then links to every
- 12:34place she found the information.
- 12:38And it's out there.
- 12:39There's a link to it from her Instagram
- 12:42page, which is DataWad.
- 12:44If you have any questions about semifinals
- 12:46at all.
- 12:49And what we've kind of learned is there
- 12:52is no geographic restriction,
- 12:54but some semifinals are taking a part of
- 12:58and inviting from their region.
- 13:00And then the rest of it is opened
- 13:02up to the world.
- 13:04Yeah,
- 13:04I feel like this has been discussed a
- 13:06bit,
- 13:06but it does seem like the top twenty
- 13:09out of quarterfinals are going to get
- 13:12invited everywhere and then that's it.
- 13:14They're not going to go everywhere,
- 13:15so it's just a dumb way to look
- 13:17at it.
- 13:17You're going to have to pay a bunch
- 13:19if you want to accept your spot at
- 13:21a bunch of different places.
- 13:23Some of them are at the same weekend,
- 13:24so they will have to choose eventually.
- 13:28It'll trickle down.
- 13:29I mean, I just think it's not,
- 13:30I think it should have, I don't know.
- 13:34That's something I think they're gonna
- 13:34have to think about in the future.
- 13:35Like pick two at the beginning of the
- 13:37season, put your bed in and you get,
- 13:40you get two up to two.
- 13:43That's it.
- 13:43Like if you want one,
- 13:44you can make one.
- 13:45If you want to,
- 13:45you can go to two.
- 13:47I think it's, it could,
- 13:48it should almost be,
- 13:50you go to one and then you have
- 13:51your last chance qualifier,
- 13:52which is the online.
- 13:53Yeah.
- 13:54I think you only should go to one.
- 13:57What's that?
- 13:58The more I thought about this week,
- 13:59I'm with you.
- 14:00Makes it easier.
- 14:01One online.
- 14:02Yeah.
- 14:03Cause that is a last chance qualifier.
- 14:05And it's not like if you picked one
- 14:07that had a bunch of people,
- 14:08it's not like you're done.
- 14:10You still technically do have another
- 14:12shot.
- 14:12It's just online, but it's there.
- 14:15It wasn't there before when we had
- 14:16regionals or semifinals and one shot at
- 14:18it.
- 14:18So it's at least a little bit more
- 14:20from that.
- 14:22I really wish it was either use the
- 14:23open or qualifiers.
- 14:24And then we, well,
- 14:26I would just correct that too.
- 14:27I either use the quarterfinals or
- 14:30qualifiers.
- 14:32Um, and we knew that all of them,
- 14:35um,
- 14:35and then they'll end up with no shows
- 14:38in short fields.
- 14:40I hope that they're doing like magic city
- 14:42and they're putting a very strict timeline
- 14:44on, right.
- 14:45You have so many hours to, to accept.
- 14:48And then we're moving on to the next
- 14:49group.
- 14:50Yeah.
- 14:50Um,
- 14:53And then John also says,
- 14:55whose programming can we trust?
- 14:58I got to say,
- 14:59I'm still really bummed that they didn't
- 15:01combine the open and quarterfinals into
- 15:03one big score,
- 15:05especially to whittle this down to the top
- 15:07twenty to start to filter that.
- 15:09Like that gets you a broader picture.
- 15:12I think, I think we talked,
- 15:14we've talked about this so many times,
- 15:15but you get a way better picture of
- 15:17the athlete when you have all of these
- 15:19tests that everyone did.
- 15:21Why would some of them just not count?
- 15:22Like if you're moving on to the
- 15:24quarterfinals,
- 15:25all the videos are public and all the
- 15:29scores count.
- 15:29I agree.
- 15:33Maybe next year we'll keep,
- 15:34we'll keep harping on it.
- 15:36I like this.
- 15:38CrossFit says,
- 15:39I think comps should get some sort of
- 15:41reward for sending athletes that place
- 15:43well at the games.
- 15:45No,
- 15:45because people want to qualify early in
- 15:47the season.
- 15:49So a lot of them will pick,
- 15:50let's say,
- 15:51Mayhem because they want to get more time
- 15:53to train for the games.
- 15:55So does that mean that that event was
- 15:58better or you just had better people show
- 16:01up because it's earlier in the season?
- 16:02I don't think that that would necessarily
- 16:05mean that that competition was...
- 16:07The best, just because it's first.
- 16:09Although, last year,
- 16:10I would argue Mayhem was definitely the
- 16:14top one.
- 16:15But if you keep sending people that finish
- 16:18twenty-eighths, twenty-ninth,
- 16:19and thirtieth, is that,
- 16:21should you be rewarded to have three spots
- 16:23every year?
- 16:24Or be like, okay,
- 16:26because your people are always finishing
- 16:27at the tail end,
- 16:28we're reducing your spots to two or one.
- 16:30Well, that...
- 16:36that's like saying like,
- 16:37should Africa have a semi-final?
- 16:39I mean,
- 16:39people get injured too at the games.
- 16:41Like if you get all of a sudden
- 16:42a withdrawal, like what happens?
- 16:44I'm saying consistently, not just one.
- 16:46Yeah.
- 16:49I don't,
- 16:51it's just so hard because the games is
- 16:52different programming.
- 16:53Like it's just, it's completely different.
- 16:56You can do well at open quarters,
- 16:58semifinals,
- 16:59and then you just have different stuff
- 17:00that shows up at the games.
- 17:02You can either be better at that stuff
- 17:03or worse.
- 17:05It's all program dependent,
- 17:07except for Tia.
- 17:09So if Tia is here and compete that
- 17:11syndicate versus at home and compete that
- 17:14Torian, what like, I don't know.
- 17:16That's a geographic thing kind of,
- 17:20and unless we're trying to limit it by
- 17:22geography,
- 17:23like I don't see the point in necessarily
- 17:25doing that.
- 17:25I could say, yes,
- 17:26I totally agree with you if,
- 17:29if we were still geographically bound.
- 17:32like we should take away spots from Africa
- 17:34if they can't even send people who can
- 17:36finish.
- 17:37When last year may have programmed every
- 17:38event.
- 17:39So who do you punish?
- 17:42It's the same programmer for all.
- 17:45Yeah.
- 17:45But is it,
- 17:46it's the fact that athletes don't want to
- 17:49clearly travel and compete at that comp.
- 17:52So you're not getting good athletes there.
- 17:54So then the best athlete that made it
- 17:56can't even finish in the top.
- 17:58They're they're,
- 18:01They're from twenty fifth to thirtieth.
- 18:04And that's like if that's consistently
- 18:07happening,
- 18:07that's clearly not a place that should
- 18:09hold a hold a semifinal.
- 18:12Nobody wants to go there.
- 18:13Nobody wants it like.
- 18:15They were already what show they were
- 18:16doing,
- 18:17trying to pick where all these athletes
- 18:19would go compete.
- 18:19And there's like two comps that are like
- 18:21going to take the twenty fifth person.
- 18:24Like so it's like saying like.
- 18:28Colton should fly over to cope with her
- 18:31and take that spot.
- 18:35But will he, I don't know.
- 18:36I mean,
- 18:39but until people like someone takes that
- 18:42opportunity and takes a spot and makes it
- 18:44worthwhile, it's, it's,
- 18:46it's kind of proving that that comp
- 18:48shouldn't even happen.
- 18:49Like nobody wants to go there.
- 18:53Yeah.
- 18:56I guess we'll see.
- 18:57I mean,
- 18:57we'll see what comes out of those couples.
- 19:00Ma'am does a ton.
- 19:01Great.
- 19:01I think the spin boys were crying about
- 19:03how much they squatted.
- 19:05Rich made a little comment.
- 19:07They are informed in the space.
- 19:11nothing wrong with a bunch of squatting i
- 19:12mean i just think so many workouts are
- 19:14so dependent on upper body push and pull
- 19:16so i'm okay with more squatting same like
- 19:19everything that like it's just yeah i'm
- 19:22okay with that yeah we see a lot
- 19:24more pulling and pushing than we do lower
- 19:25body dominant workouts it's better than no
- 19:27consistently right like we didn't like
- 19:31when there was no squatting if you had
- 19:37a sponsor that would send you to copus
- 19:38or why not
- 19:41agree agree well like if you're ty jenkins
- 19:47and your big sponsor is adidas why
- 19:50wouldn't adidas say hey come to europe and
- 19:53do the comp here with us yeah i
- 19:56agree like because it could be tight at
- 20:00syndicate like that wouldn't be a bad idea
- 20:02for him
- 20:04And that's just an example.
- 20:05I'm not picking Ty out of the mix.
- 20:09I know his sponsor is a European-based
- 20:11sponsor, so it just makes sense.
- 20:13Why not send them over, any of them,
- 20:16Sidney Wells, any of them,
- 20:18over to Europe where they can train at
- 20:22the Adidas headquarters and do whatever?
- 20:27Wayne Short says, or James Sprague.
- 20:29See,
- 20:29I think James is at a point where
- 20:30he can just go wherever.
- 20:34where Ty is not quite there yet.
- 20:36Kenny, though?
- 20:36I mean, I don't know.
- 20:38I kind of agree with you.
- 20:40If he's proved anything this year,
- 20:43he's proved he can go anywhere.
- 20:44If all four of those boys choose legends
- 20:48to go to Del Mar, that's a problem.
- 20:54Okay.
- 20:55I mean,
- 20:55do I think he could be the one
- 20:57that takes it?
- 20:58Uh, depends on how Bob and Joe program,
- 21:00if they go their heavy machine,
- 21:02like he might be the one that's out.
- 21:04Yeah.
- 21:10Ty Ty was competing this weekend.
- 21:12There was a comp in like Puerto Rico.
- 21:14There's a few good athletes that are
- 21:15there.
- 21:17The it's called a beetle extravaganza.
- 21:21Okay.
- 21:23And like on the woman's side,
- 21:25there's Hannah black fee, uh,
- 21:27Jenny Chevry, Ariel Sanders, scuds, uh,
- 21:33a couple Mesa.
- 21:34I actually, she's ended up withdrawing,
- 21:36but a couple of people,
- 21:37Quintero from the games looks like a solid
- 21:39field.
- 21:39And on the men's side,
- 21:41Ty was ties there.
- 21:43Tola.
- 21:43Oh,
- 21:46So some good athletes there.
- 21:48Small field, but good athletes.
- 21:51Didn't even hear about it.
- 21:52And we have desert city this weekend too.
- 21:55Yeah.
- 21:56Shout out to Liz who won nice on
- 22:00the female side.
- 22:02I know Scott pancheck programs that for
- 22:05them every year.
- 22:06Um,
- 22:07so I see stuff through his feed and
- 22:09of course the burgers are big friends with
- 22:12them.
- 22:12So.
- 22:13we hear about that, but, um,
- 22:15I wish there was a way to stream
- 22:17stuff like that.
- 22:17Just a cheap stream.
- 22:19Doesn't have to be like the big one,
- 22:21like just the desert one, Lauren Khalil,
- 22:25um,
- 22:25did like a recap video broadcasting of the
- 22:29final heats.
- 22:29So those are on YouTube.
- 22:30I was watching those cause I was watching
- 22:33Liz the entire weekend compete.
- 22:35Um, so those were nice to have like,
- 22:38they weren't live,
- 22:39but they would be uploaded pretty fast in
- 22:42the evening and stuff.
- 22:48CrossFit says that the Puerto Rican one
- 22:50sounds very much like a crash-level field.
- 22:54I think there's good prize money there,
- 22:55which probably attracted a lot of the
- 22:57athletes if they got invites.
- 23:00Yeah,
- 23:01that's the key to a lot these days,
- 23:03I think.
- 23:05Nice prize money,
- 23:06you're going to get some nice athletes.
- 23:10All right, so...
- 23:13One more quick thing,
- 23:14and then we'll get into some season
- 23:15awards.
- 23:16There have been,
- 23:16since we really last talked,
- 23:19more withdrawals at WFP.
- 23:20Lexi Neely announced that she was going to
- 23:22have to withdraw.
- 23:23Of course, Sam Quant,
- 23:24after the injury at Rogue,
- 23:26was forced to withdraw.
- 23:29Emma Tall also had another shoulder injury
- 23:31at Rogue,
- 23:31even though there's been no announcement.
- 23:34That looks like a potential issue as well,
- 23:37because I know she's been battling that
- 23:38shoulder now for at least a year.
- 23:42She had it last year at Rogue as
- 23:45well.
- 23:48so um we're going to get into a
- 23:51little more of the wfp as we get
- 23:53to pencil pen and sharpie later on in
- 23:55the show but just wanted to say that
- 23:57there's some more withdrawals coming um
- 24:00and i know last week we hadn't pen
- 24:02pen pencil pen and sharpie uh jeff adler
- 24:05would he go after winning all this money
- 24:10and and then to point out that it's
- 24:12at christmas time it's gonna be wild
- 24:23I'm wondering if WFP is going to be
- 24:24like the first few years of golf FedEx
- 24:26cup.
- 24:29No one realized what was going on in
- 24:31year one.
- 24:33I do think that that is a problem
- 24:35that they have.
- 24:36I think that they didn't educate enough
- 24:39people on how the season works.
- 24:43So, yes, I agree with that.
- 24:46However, I've said this since day one.
- 24:49like to, in order to make it grow,
- 24:52you need the challengers to want to be
- 24:55there and incentivize them into a like
- 24:58realistic way of getting to these events.
- 25:00And this year there's definitely a shot
- 25:03for some of these challengers to get,
- 25:05take over a spot.
- 25:06So it probably would have made some sense
- 25:08for some people,
- 25:09but I feel like without like,
- 25:12you're throwing all this money at these
- 25:14pros that aren't even doing shit for the
- 25:18sport.
- 25:18Like they aren't,
- 25:19They aren't showing up consistently.
- 25:21I understand your guys' push for that,
- 25:25but you need to entice these challengers
- 25:29to be there to make it interesting,
- 25:31to see if they can take over a
- 25:33spot.
- 25:33And making people pay to go to three
- 25:36different stops, one of them overseas,
- 25:39is extremely hard for somebody who doesn't
- 25:41have a sponsor who is on the up
- 25:42and come up.
- 25:44So I don't see how this side of
- 25:48WFP grows.
- 25:49I mean,
- 25:50they just are going to get their top
- 25:51ten names and hope that they get viewers
- 25:55and sponsors.
- 25:56I don't know.
- 25:57Well, here's the issue.
- 26:00You can have all the challengers and you
- 26:02can incentivize them all you want.
- 26:03If nobody understands the season,
- 26:05they're not going to be able to do
- 26:06it.
- 26:07And I get crushed every time I say
- 26:09this.
- 26:10And I get crushed at work because...
- 26:13Where I work with unemployment,
- 26:15reemployment, there are acronyms,
- 26:17there are terms that we use internally
- 26:19that nobody outside of us understands what
- 26:22those acronyms or terms are.
- 26:24And if you use those in educating what
- 26:26unemployment is to the public,
- 26:28they would be so confused nobody would
- 26:30file.
- 26:31Right.
- 26:31Right.
- 26:32And I think that's what's happened with
- 26:33WFP.
- 26:34Right.
- 26:35Inside the sport,
- 26:36when you are designing the season,
- 26:38you understand what it is.
- 26:40But you're using terminology and terms
- 26:43that the outside people who don't watch
- 26:45sports every day can understand.
- 26:48And that is where...
- 26:51They got off on the wrong foot and
- 26:53cross fat.
- 26:54Yes.
- 26:54I was a big.
- 26:56Yeller screamer about they needed a cut
- 26:58line to show the people above the cut
- 27:01line, have what you want.
- 27:02The people below the cut line are trying
- 27:04to get up there to take what they,
- 27:06they can get.
- 27:07Yeah.
- 27:09And that didn't happen until after tour
- 27:11stop too,
- 27:14Holly and I made one before they did.
- 27:18And I think that that's the big issue.
- 27:21Because you have to talk about both the
- 27:23current state of the competition and then
- 27:26afterwards or during where like who's got
- 27:29the pro cards,
- 27:30who's kind of inside and out,
- 27:31like what the bubble line like
- 27:34continuously.
- 27:35I don't think the actual season is
- 27:36confusing at all.
- 27:38No,
- 27:39but if you don't watch sports like because
- 27:41there's a lot of people in CrossFit that
- 27:42don't watch pro sports.
- 27:45But I think the idea of having athletes
- 27:48that are pro athletes,
- 27:49that they get invited to everything,
- 27:50and then athletes that are trying to get
- 27:52the slots,
- 27:52just that basic idea is not that
- 27:54confusing.
- 27:55That challengers need to basically
- 27:58accumulate enough points to dethrone a
- 28:01pro.
- 28:02I don't think it's that complicated.
- 28:05To get what, though?
- 28:07Do we have any idea what they're...
- 28:10A pro card, I get it.
- 28:10But is it a ten thousand dollar contract?
- 28:12Is it thirty thousand?
- 28:13Is it like does anyone know exactly what
- 28:16they're trying to earn?
- 28:17Pro card to me is like that.
- 28:19You don't have to do a qualifier and
- 28:20you're automatically invited to the
- 28:22events.
- 28:22Just like you win a master's jacket.
- 28:24You get invited to the masters for the
- 28:26next however many years.
- 28:27The rest of your life.
- 28:29Yeah.
- 28:29So it's like.
- 28:32That to me is the pro card.
- 28:33The money can differentiate from placing
- 28:36the placing,
- 28:36depending on your season earnings.
- 28:38But I don't think that that is the
- 28:40huge deal.
- 28:40It's more just like you escape the
- 28:42qualifiers.
- 28:43You get,
- 28:43you get to go to all of the
- 28:44main events.
- 28:45You bypass.
- 28:47I don't think it's confusing.
- 28:49Colton is not a pro.
- 28:50Correct.
- 28:51He's still a challenger.
- 28:52He just got put in.
- 28:53After Copenhagen,
- 28:54the new twenty will be announced.
- 28:56Right.
- 28:56There were twenty announced.
- 28:58It stays that twenty until after
- 29:00Copenhagen when the final points are
- 29:02released and then the top twenty point
- 29:04getters get the next pro card.
- 29:10And everything in between is the battle to
- 29:12get into that top twenty.
- 29:15But I think the only confusing part of
- 29:17the season was how they chose the twenty
- 29:19at the beginning of the season.
- 29:21Once the season is done and the twenty
- 29:22have gone enough points and it's like
- 29:25easier to follow year to year,
- 29:26like those athletes got the top points of
- 29:29twenty twenty five.
- 29:30They start off getting invites to the
- 29:32major comps.
- 29:33The other one needs to fight for it
- 29:35to get points.
- 29:36And that's it.
- 29:37So I think that if you watch sports,
- 29:40Carolyn, you're correct.
- 29:42From the comments I've gotten on DMs and
- 29:44on YouTube,
- 29:45there is a group of people that don't
- 29:47watch sports regularly that have no idea
- 29:50what any of that means.
- 29:53They're so used to just CrossFit being a
- 29:55one-weekend competition.
- 29:58And at the end of that,
- 29:59there's a podium and whatever.
- 30:03Most sports...
- 30:06are literally like a league that you play
- 30:07during the season and then it's playoffs.
- 30:09It's the exact same thing.
- 30:12Why can't people explain it like that?
- 30:14It's literally the league and then the
- 30:15finals.
- 30:16It's not that...
- 30:18Why isn't it like the open quarterfinals
- 30:20games?
- 30:21Because it resets after every stage in
- 30:23CrossFit and that doesn't happen in a
- 30:25normal league.
- 30:28Well, it shouldn't.
- 30:28And that's what I've always said that I
- 30:31wanted to...
- 30:32It is more different than you...
- 30:34then we're letting on it than it is
- 30:36and i think that's why the approach wfp
- 30:38took and that's why they got into the
- 30:40spot they were i'm telling you i got
- 30:42so many comments of people who didn't
- 30:44understand
- 30:44I think it makes more sense than the
- 30:46CrossFit Games season in terms of you get
- 30:48points accumulated,
- 30:50and then here's the champion of the whole
- 30:51season with as many points.
- 30:53CrossFit, you could win open, quarters,
- 30:56open, quarters, semifinals.
- 30:58You could win all three, lose the games,
- 31:02and then you're not considered the
- 31:04fittest, right?
- 31:04Because it's just that one weekend.
- 31:07when you could have won all three prior
- 31:09with more events between all of those
- 31:11combined.
- 31:14For us sports nerds,
- 31:15I agree with you completely.
- 31:17It makes sense.
- 31:19If you don't watch sports ever,
- 31:20it doesn't make sense.
- 31:22And the only sport you've ever watched is
- 31:23CrossFit has never given you an example of
- 31:26a true season.
- 31:29I think people are just saying that
- 31:30because they have a negative opinion based
- 31:34off what people are saying in the space.
- 31:37I disagree.
- 31:38I think the points are extremely
- 31:39confusing.
- 31:40The fact that I can't...
- 31:45If it was like you said, Carolyn,
- 31:46I could just go and get points and
- 31:49But the fact that I can't do the
- 31:51same workout,
- 31:52like those challengers that are in a
- 31:53different heat and can only max out at
- 31:55two hundred fifty points is silly and it's
- 31:58confusing for them to acquire points to
- 32:00get.
- 32:02It's confusing,
- 32:03like getting out of the challenger and
- 32:05being able to compete in the pro heat
- 32:07is confusing.
- 32:10I don't think so, but.
- 32:13The point the point system does not make
- 32:15sense.
- 32:16I don't understand the point system for
- 32:18every competition of tennis or golf or
- 32:20anything like that.
- 32:20But once the rankings are there, I'm like,
- 32:23okay, sure.
- 32:24If they were really specific about the
- 32:25rankings and like Scott said,
- 32:27they had put, put out data around that.
- 32:29Yeah.
- 32:30I know.
- 32:31Had they done that,
- 32:32it would be a whole lot clearer.
- 32:34They had a post at the beginning that
- 32:36was like, spot one is this many points.
- 32:39They just need to do that more often.
- 32:42That's the only thing that's missing.
- 32:44Communicate the points more often.
- 32:46Communicate the leaderboard more often.
- 32:48That needs to be a continuous topic.
- 32:50Make it a graphic or picture that makes
- 32:52sense.
- 32:53Let's say something that's not WFP.
- 32:55The duel at Rogue.
- 32:57They made that graphic at Rogue,
- 32:59and all of a sudden,
- 33:01understanding what the duel is became so
- 33:03much easier for everyone, for everybody.
- 33:09You see it all played out.
- 33:12Top ten moved to here,
- 33:13top five moved to here,
- 33:15top three moved to whatever.
- 33:18It's the same principle.
- 33:19Yes.
- 33:25Um, Ken Walters.
- 33:26That's why when you're first in any sport,
- 33:29the next one's never survived.
- 33:31ABA, WHA, USFL, XFL, world tennis,
- 33:34try different twist on the original rules.
- 33:38Uh,
- 33:38but there have been some successes like
- 33:40the AFL did merge with the NFL.
- 33:43Um, so I will argue a tiny bit.
- 33:48Um,
- 33:53T-Bird, completely agree with Carolyn.
- 33:55The media helps to educate others on the
- 33:57ever-changing CrossFit season and how to
- 34:00qualify each year.
- 34:00The media could help more to educate about
- 34:03the WFP.
- 34:05I would argue I tried to do that,
- 34:06and everybody got mad at me.
- 34:08No, you were doing great.
- 34:09That's what was needed.
- 34:10I think at one point they had a
- 34:14thing about Bethany was in the hunt,
- 34:17and she was out.
- 34:18And I'm like,
- 34:19this is making no sense to anybody because
- 34:21she's not in the hunt.
- 34:22She is not even competing.
- 34:27All right, let's get to some fun stuff.
- 34:30We're going to talk about the
- 34:31season-ending awards.
- 34:35Prior to the WFP finals.
- 34:39Well, let's be honest.
- 34:41It's a slow week.
- 34:43There's not a lot of news.
- 34:44CrossFit didn't make any announcements
- 34:46this week on their podcast.
- 34:50And so we've got to make up content.
- 34:52So we're doing season ending awards.
- 34:54Maybe we'll revisit it in December after
- 34:56WFP and see if it changes at all.
- 35:00Okay.
- 35:01So I'm going to do this in reverse
- 35:03because I should save the biggest for the
- 35:05last, right?
- 35:06Okay.
- 35:07And I started it with the biggest.
- 35:08All right.
- 35:09So let's do some like side bar stuff
- 35:11first.
- 35:13Most dominating performance.
- 35:15One I didn't come up with.
- 35:18I'm still thinking.
- 35:19I'll start on this one.
- 35:20My answer was anything that Colton
- 35:24participated in with burpees and squats.
- 35:28And I commented like his back squat at
- 35:30the games or the road event with the
- 35:34squat, the open scores that he had to.
- 35:36Yeah.
- 35:37Right.
- 35:38When it's in his wheelhouse,
- 35:41he is so far in front of everybody
- 35:43else.
- 35:44It is like Tia overall in the women's
- 35:47division.
- 35:48Colton is that on those movements in the
- 35:52sport.
- 35:54Yeah.
- 35:55Yeah, I wrote Colton as well there.
- 35:59Laura's pegboard was way ahead of everyone
- 36:01as well.
- 36:01Yeah, that's a good one.
- 36:04Like three minutes or something about like
- 36:05no one that was even close to her
- 36:07on the female.
- 36:12Yeah.
- 36:16All right.
- 36:16That one we all agree on pretty much
- 36:18except for Laura.
- 36:20Is that's a good one, though.
- 36:21That is a good one.
- 36:22Yeah.
- 36:24I mean, it used to be like,
- 36:25like DB doesn't even do that on
- 36:27handstands.
- 36:28What those two did this year.
- 36:31Well,
- 36:31they haven't programmed like a handstand
- 36:33that, that Danielle could really like,
- 36:35it's,
- 36:35it's been mixed with different things
- 36:37versus they've like,
- 36:38they went out the games a few years
- 36:39of just doing a,
- 36:41just a full on handstand obstacle,
- 36:42of course,
- 36:43which I don't think anyone's beating
- 36:45Danielle on that.
- 36:47But yeah,
- 36:48there hasn't been like super or a lot
- 36:51of super dominant performances where no
- 36:53one's even close.
- 36:54Because even Tia,
- 36:56like Kringle was close to her on the
- 36:58run, right?
- 36:59Like Jeff and Roman or was it Roman
- 37:05or Ricky?
- 37:09And honestly,
- 37:10I don't think Tia blew anyone out of
- 37:12the water either.
- 37:14the games on like a specific event but
- 37:16she's like multiple minutes ahead of
- 37:18someone right the ones that come to mind
- 37:20are like colton's just dominant
- 37:22performances and laura's payboard all
- 37:26right let's go to the next one uh
- 37:28surprise of the year you want mine yep
- 37:33tia at wadapalooza tia at wadapalooza
- 37:40socal yes
- 37:43She was human.
- 37:44Yes.
- 37:45Especially that final event.
- 37:47I mean, the first one,
- 37:48when you kind of were like,
- 37:49what the heck's going on?
- 37:49I thought maybe she was just taking it
- 37:51easy.
- 37:52But that last event, yeah.
- 37:55That was insane.
- 37:57It's like in Rocky IV when the Russian
- 38:00gets cut and you're like...
- 38:02He's not a machine.
- 38:02He's a man.
- 38:03Yeah.
- 38:08Um, yeah.
- 38:08Is Ivan Drago.
- 38:10You just can't be like,
- 38:12it's just so good.
- 38:14She's so dominant.
- 38:15Yes.
- 38:15It just like,
- 38:16she was humanized for that weekend.
- 38:19You're like, wow,
- 38:19she does have like days where she's not
- 38:23as dominant and that's okay.
- 38:24Um,
- 38:26Cross fat says Lucy Campbell,
- 38:28Kenneth to lap any comp with Lucy
- 38:29Campbell.
- 38:30He meant my, see,
- 38:34I didn't put Lucy Campbell because we're
- 38:37going to see her in other awards.
- 38:39And I just didn't want her to run
- 38:41away with everything.
- 38:43And so my surprise of the year was
- 38:45Reese little wood coming out of nowhere to
- 38:47finish third at syndicate and almost get a
- 38:50spot to the games out of nowhere.
- 38:53I like that one.
- 38:55I have Annika.
- 38:59I thought she had a really,
- 39:01really good year.
- 39:03A lot of people count her out because
- 39:05of her running long distance.
- 39:10But I was impressed with her.
- 39:12She held it together all year and did
- 39:15amazing at the games as well.
- 39:16So it was a good surprise of the
- 39:19year.
- 39:20Although I wasn't surprised because I know
- 39:21how good she is at CrossFit.
- 39:23But happy to see her get some success.
- 39:27Yeah,
- 39:27I knew if she could get to the
- 39:29games,
- 39:29she would show out when she got there.
- 39:32It's just that getting over that hurdle.
- 39:35Yep.
- 39:40Cross fat,
- 39:41no submission error or any epic failures
- 39:43at the end of an event was great
- 39:44for Greer.
- 39:45Yes.
- 39:48My surprise,
- 39:49Carolyn Prevo within weeks competing in
- 39:51Masters and Indy finals.
- 39:52That's a great one.
- 39:54Ken Walters.
- 39:57Carolyn doing both masters and individual
- 39:59games in the same year.
- 40:02Probably won't happen many times in
- 40:05people's careers.
- 40:06So pretty cool.
- 40:10All right.
- 40:11So next one is biggest disappointment.
- 40:20Mine is lack of open participation.
- 40:23I like that one.
- 40:25I knew it was going to happen,
- 40:28but I didn't think it was going to
- 40:29be as bad as it actually was.
- 40:33Mine is the decision to leave Kel Lehman's
- 40:36scores up and keep him in the top
- 40:38five of the Open.
- 40:42I just wrote the amount of dropouts at
- 40:43comps.
- 40:45It's just like disappointing to see for
- 40:47the organizers just like as like also just
- 40:51sucks to see a lot of dropouts at
- 40:54comps.
- 40:57Yeah.
- 40:57Wayne Short says Haley Adams.
- 41:01I thought of that.
- 41:02I just didn't want it to be recency
- 41:03bias because the whole season.
- 41:07And then Kenneth Lapp says the sale.
- 41:10The sale that never happened.
- 41:11Yeah.
- 41:17Uh, Teresa wrote rush forward.
- 41:19I love how you analyze Tia.
- 41:21She's been at it for a long time,
- 41:22had a baby and could still beat everyone.
- 41:28We were surprised of her performance at
- 41:30SoCal because it was not what we expected.
- 41:32Correct.
- 41:32Just dominates all the time.
- 41:34Correct.
- 41:37Uh, CrossFit said,
- 41:38could have said the open across the board.
- 41:39Yeah.
- 41:43You two won the open.
- 41:44So I don't think you were that
- 41:45disappointed in the open.
- 41:47I always liked the open.
- 41:49I, I think the open's great.
- 41:51Like, I think it does its job.
- 41:55Unless they have a lift.
- 41:56I think that's silly in a mass leaderboard
- 41:57like that, but still.
- 42:00In a three week, not a one rep,
- 42:01but they could do a ladder of kind
- 42:03of like a sixteen point two or nineteen
- 42:05point two.
- 42:06I like those workouts.
- 42:07I think those are totally appropriate for
- 42:09the open.
- 42:10Yep.
- 42:12Uh, WRM, nineteen,
- 42:12twenty-two Alexis Raptus.
- 42:15Don't get me wrong.
- 42:15I'm a huge fan of hers,
- 42:17but this year.
- 42:21Yeah.
- 42:22I think the back injury just really took
- 42:25its toll.
- 42:25It's it sucks.
- 42:28She switched coaches too.
- 42:29I think she went to Kyle Ruth.
- 42:31I very curious on the reasoning behind
- 42:35that.
- 42:35She was always with, um, Adam,
- 42:38was that his name?
- 42:38Yeah.
- 42:39Adam Rogers.
- 42:40I,
- 42:42And it's not like Adam isn't coaching.
- 42:45Yeah.
- 42:46I thought they had a good thing going.
- 42:49I'm very curious what happened there.
- 42:54No one knows.
- 42:58Lupe,
- 42:58which happened shortly after the games.
- 43:00It actually happened before Kyle was
- 43:02coaching her at the games.
- 43:04Correct.
- 43:09um clock i'm voting for the open low
- 43:11participation three events poor
- 43:12announcements i didn't i'm not poor the
- 43:16three were awesome yeah yeah i thought the
- 43:21mayhem one was fantastic excellent and the
- 43:24boys the boys was very memorable and tyson
- 43:27beijing why am i blanking on number two
- 43:32because it was the two it was the
- 43:34girls it was
- 43:36It was Emily Rolfe and in Sydney, Sydney.
- 43:40It was in Arizona.
- 43:42Yeah.
- 43:42That one was okay.
- 43:46Yeah.
- 43:46It just didn't have the pop.
- 43:47The other two did.
- 43:48Yeah.
- 43:48I think the one workout one and three
- 43:50were, were great and really well done.
- 43:54And I,
- 43:54and I don't know that it was supposed
- 43:55to be Sydney.
- 43:57Like, was it supposed to be Brooke?
- 43:58And then I'll possibly CrossFit says
- 44:02middle one was the wrong Wells.
- 44:05And then back on a Raptus, anyone,
- 44:09and no one knows why she switched.
- 44:12Same brand too.
- 44:14Yeah.
- 44:14So, yeah.
- 44:18But I think the biggest factors are
- 44:20health.
- 44:21Yeah.
- 44:22That's not, yeah.
- 44:24If you have ever sustained a back injury,
- 44:27it is so debilitating.
- 44:30And confidence is such a big thing that
- 44:33hopefully it's just a minor setback and
- 44:35she can get some time off and get
- 44:40back at it.
- 44:44A clock.
- 44:44Y'all were too enamored with the mayhem
- 44:47announcement.
- 44:48loved it i love the cheesy did you
- 44:50not hear carolyn talking about rocky four
- 44:52and see how excited we got when rich
- 44:54was my favorite movie of all time rich
- 44:57wore the red white and blue shorts it's
- 44:59rocky four it's the whole cheese ball give
- 45:04me a good cheese ball set up and
- 45:05i'm i'm there yeah um so okay
- 45:15Next one is camp of the year.
- 45:20Is there no,
- 45:22you already have the one I think we
- 45:24would all agree on.
- 45:25I said proven.
- 45:26So that's what I wrote.
- 45:27I would say proven would be my other
- 45:29contender.
- 45:30I mean, you, you get,
- 45:31you got tea out of there.
- 45:32I think they did excellent helping build
- 45:35up Olivia.
- 45:35I mean, to me,
- 45:37Jacob Hefner is Olivia's coach, but I,
- 45:40even he says like he couldn't, you know,
- 45:43continue to help her grow and wanted her
- 45:45to get,
- 45:46think that i think they're doing a great
- 45:47job with with maddie stirrer and jay and
- 45:51ricky getting second i will say this in
- 45:54the back because i had the glittery band
- 45:57this year tim paulson was very active with
- 45:59olivia as a coach it it jacob was
- 46:03not in the back this year so i
- 46:06think there has been a switch to the
- 46:08proven team being her full-time coach
- 46:12Um, and so, yeah, they should give.
- 46:15And in my mind,
- 46:16I just thought proven is the quantity
- 46:20where brute had the quality.
- 46:22And I, and if you,
- 46:24if you think about it in a way
- 46:26like fee had an incredible season.
- 46:29Yeah.
- 46:29The games weren't where she was supposed
- 46:31to be,
- 46:32but she was blowing us all away leading
- 46:35up to the games.
- 46:37And, and I,
- 46:39I didn't want to discredit that at all
- 46:40either.
- 46:42Cause it's the whole season, right?
- 46:44Not, not just the one thing.
- 46:46And that's what I was trying to do.
- 46:47So that's why I went brute one.
- 46:49I think Dallin and James are freaking on
- 46:52fire.
- 46:53And then you have fee and Emma Lawson
- 46:56is starting to creep up there too.
- 46:59Um, so yeah,
- 47:04it was the jazzy band cross fat.
- 47:07It is interesting that mayhem doesn't even
- 47:10get mentioned.
- 47:13I think they had a bad year.
- 47:14I do too.
- 47:15It's until Roman came on at the games
- 47:19and Roman,
- 47:20it was their star of the year.
- 47:22Yep.
- 47:23Yeah.
- 47:23He's, he's turned it around.
- 47:28So we'll see.
- 47:34Yeah.
- 47:34Some of these other ones are grid
- 47:35mentions.
- 47:36They're just not a camp.
- 47:37It's two or three people and it's just
- 47:39not quite the same.
- 47:41Uh, Teresa Rutherford, uh, and Matt's a,
- 47:45that's not what I wanted to read on
- 47:47George.
- 47:48You have to give Coachelle credit for DB
- 47:50as well.
- 47:50They, they got her there.
- 47:54I love Coachelle.
- 47:55He's one of my favorite people to talk
- 47:56to.
- 47:57Um, yeah, he, he deserves credit.
- 48:02DB was great at the games.
- 48:05The two weeks with Adam Neifert probably
- 48:06didn't change much.
- 48:10Yeah.
- 48:10Yeah.
- 48:17I'm shocked Roman hasn't left.
- 48:19I think he's happy and cookful.
- 48:23I mean, the facility has everything.
- 48:25He's got access to anything he wants.
- 48:29I think Mayhem is a great place for
- 48:32him.
- 48:34CrossFit,
- 48:34has anyone gotten better at Mayhem?
- 48:36Roman just returned to where he was before
- 48:37he was injured.
- 48:39Haley got better before her time off.
- 48:43Maybe that wasn't the right way to go
- 48:45about it.
- 48:46And I think a lot of people had
- 48:47gotten better there for years.
- 48:49Yeah.
- 48:50I think Luke got better there.
- 48:53A hundred percent.
- 48:55I argue Angelo.
- 48:57I mean,
- 48:57Angelo has been great for a long,
- 48:59but like maybe a lot of their team
- 49:02athletes,
- 49:02a lot of their team athletes continued us
- 49:04to get better and better.
- 49:07Paige.
- 49:08My, Miley, Wade, Nina, Paige,
- 49:12Paige for sure.
- 49:14Um, the young, Oh my gosh.
- 49:19I am.
- 49:21No, I'm talking about male Nate.
- 49:23Yeah, but he's with the same coach.
- 49:27He had a brute.
- 49:28So that's, it's a little hard to, um,
- 49:35Jorge made the games.
- 49:36That's, that's a good point.
- 49:37Yeah.
- 49:37Yeah.
- 49:43It was going to be one of them,
- 49:45Jorge or Nate.
- 49:49So.
- 49:49So we'll see.
- 49:51All right.
- 49:52So most exciting moment of the year.
- 49:57I don't think I wrote anything for that.
- 49:59I was struggling for this one.
- 50:00I, you know, cause recent I'd have,
- 50:03I like,
- 50:03I have to go back and like really
- 50:05think about things.
- 50:07it was exciting for me the hopper failing
- 50:10that snatch like that race at the games
- 50:12was exciting that one just sticks out in
- 50:14my mind i'm trying to think if anything
- 50:16else was just like oh that lucy hands
- 50:22lucy hansen walk against yeah on that one
- 50:25event was excellent excellent yeah
- 50:30Jason winning, Olivia making the put.
- 50:32So just so you guys know,
- 50:34my mindset was not about the result.
- 50:38It was about watching something and it
- 50:40being exciting.
- 50:41Mine was the final event at Tour Stop
- 50:44One at WOFP when everybody took the risk
- 50:48to do the overhead lunge and everybody was
- 50:51failing.
- 50:52Yeah, Jeff, Laura.
- 50:53It was mass chaos at the end of
- 50:56that event.
- 50:58That was really, really exciting.
- 51:01in that moment,
- 51:02just because of it's like the,
- 51:04the year before at semifinals,
- 51:06when everybody was failing that final
- 51:09lunge down and like, uh,
- 51:13follow went from a place at the games
- 51:15to like all the way.
- 51:17Eighteenth place or something.
- 51:19Yeah.
- 51:19Um,
- 51:22It was just programmed right for that
- 51:24event that you had to calculate,
- 51:28do I have enough to get to the
- 51:29end or not?
- 51:30And so many people miscalculated that.
- 51:34Yeah, that was a shocking event.
- 51:36Yeah, I like that one as a pick.
- 51:40And it wasn't just one person.
- 51:41It was several people who misjudged that.
- 51:44And people that are normally not making
- 51:48mistakes, like an execution,
- 51:50like it was out of character type of
- 51:51misses.
- 51:52So that made it even more.
- 51:54Yeah.
- 51:55Yeah.
- 51:55It was crazy.
- 51:59That's why I like those workouts that are
- 52:00programmed so well that it takes them to
- 52:04the cusp and, like,
- 52:05you see those failures.
- 52:07Like, those are just good.
- 52:09I mean, even Justin, I think,
- 52:10if I remember,
- 52:11missed the overhead walking lunge.
- 52:13He tried to go unbroken and miss.
- 52:15And it's like you never see Justin miss
- 52:18as well with anything that's overhead
- 52:20lunging.
- 52:20Yeah, it was –
- 52:24it's stuck in my head as like the
- 52:26most exciting thing I saw this year.
- 52:28And it's been there.
- 52:29And I'm glad I,
- 52:31as much as people think that I run
- 52:33a smear campaign against the WFP,
- 52:36like that was the most exciting thing of
- 52:38the year for me.
- 52:39I like it.
- 52:45Good pick.
- 52:45John George.
- 52:46I think that one got Colton and Taylor
- 52:47as well.
- 52:49Honestly, I really liked the dual as well.
- 52:51I'm going to throw the dual.
- 52:52Yeah, that was good.
- 52:55It was exciting races.
- 52:57I think they were more exciting before the
- 52:59finals.
- 52:59I wish I would have been close in
- 53:01the finals of that to really make it
- 53:04sing.
- 53:05But everything up to that point was I
- 53:08was captivated on the duel.
- 53:14I hate saying that because then it gives
- 53:15credence to Jamie's we don't need the
- 53:17final two,
- 53:18but I think we do need the final
- 53:20two.
- 53:24Yeah.
- 53:24Everything bagel, extra smear.
- 53:25There we go.
- 53:30Um, Larry young,
- 53:33his wife has started mayhem earlier.
- 53:36He said that it's, that it's, uh,
- 53:38I think she's doing the masters and is
- 53:39loving it.
- 53:41And, um,
- 53:43and he's saying now it's better ton of
- 53:46new coaches.
- 53:50So, all right.
- 53:50So now we get into like the serious
- 53:53awards and we start with comeback athlete
- 53:56of the year, both male and female.
- 53:58Who did you have?
- 54:04On the men's side, I had Justin Medeiros.
- 54:07I think he's back to form.
- 54:10I think he's consistent again.
- 54:11And I think that that is huge and
- 54:14comeback athlete.
- 54:16for the females is obvious.
- 54:18I think it's Lucy Campbell.
- 54:20What she overcame is ridiculous.
- 54:23And where she's at is ridiculous.
- 54:25Yeah.
- 54:25I have Lucy for the females.
- 54:28And then I wrote, um,
- 54:30tutor for the males and Colton.
- 54:33I like colon, um,
- 54:35Cause Colton hasn't traditionally done,
- 54:37um, as well at the games.
- 54:39Like he's been in the thirtieths around
- 54:42there.
- 54:42Even last year, I don't think made it.
- 54:44Right.
- 54:45And then I think his best finish was
- 54:48around maybe twentieth or nineteenth or
- 54:50something like that.
- 54:50And then he was just outside the top
- 54:52ten this time and has been really,
- 54:55really good this year.
- 54:56And I think well-respected within the
- 54:59men's field that's already very deep and
- 55:01stacked.
- 55:01Um,
- 55:03To me, that's comeback athlete.
- 55:05Like he's just in the mix now.
- 55:07So Teresa has two and I agree with
- 55:09one as a possibility.
- 55:11One, it was DBE.
- 55:12And I think that is a choice that
- 55:14makes sense.
- 55:14She did have a great year.
- 55:17And then she says, James,
- 55:19I think it's hard to come back from
- 55:21being the games champion.
- 55:22Correct.
- 55:23I was trying to,
- 55:25I was trying to pick someone who like,
- 55:27like Colton,
- 55:27like who didn't make it and came back
- 55:29and made a bunch of big joint.
- 55:30I would even argue maybe even like Hopper.
- 55:34like when i mean like the biggest comeback
- 55:38right like just came and took it all
- 55:42but uh crossfit says what about jason he
- 55:44was coordinated early and then this then
- 55:47was kind of a joke right but he
- 55:48was it's been an incremental climb and i
- 55:51think his from last year to this year
- 55:53isn't massive um
- 55:58Wayne short says Alex and that's just
- 56:03recency bias.
- 56:04Yeah.
- 56:06She's had a great season,
- 56:07even though she had this hiccup in the
- 56:09middle.
- 56:09Right.
- 56:11Um, but okay.
- 56:13Um, Kenneth lab hopper,
- 56:14Scott wrote him off at the start of
- 56:16the year.
- 56:16No, I'm just,
- 56:17I was tired of picking him and losing.
- 56:19Exactly.
- 56:20I was done with him.
- 56:21Right.
- 56:22And he came out and he showed out.
- 56:23Like,
- 56:24I feel like that's the ultimate comeback.
- 56:30At AI, we love you.
- 56:32Thank you.
- 56:39Yes, that was my quote, Kenneth.
- 56:40I will never pick Hopper again.
- 56:43And Larry Young with the super sticker.
- 56:45Nice.
- 56:45Thank you.
- 56:51To be fair,
- 56:52an NFL player got comeback player because
- 56:54he sort of died then came back the
- 56:55next year.
- 56:57That is true.
- 56:59That is true.
- 57:02But I think they had to find a
- 57:03way to honor that person.
- 57:06And he did die on the field and
- 57:07he did come back and play the next
- 57:09year.
- 57:09So that's a true comeback.
- 57:12That's Lazarus.
- 57:13So there we go.
- 57:17All right.
- 57:18Next is rookie rookie of the year.
- 57:22So I put Anika here.
- 57:25Yeah, I'm mad.
- 57:26I didn't put Anika here.
- 57:26You're welcome.
- 57:30So you had Anika as Rookie of the
- 57:32Year female.
- 57:34Yeah.
- 57:35I had Miriam Von Roe.
- 57:36Miriam did well in the open,
- 57:39backed it up,
- 57:40and really backed it up at the games.
- 57:42I mean,
- 57:42I think similar type athlete in terms of
- 57:45her strengths with Anika,
- 57:47which is why I think they were really
- 57:48close on the leaderboard.
- 57:49Both are amazing squatters,
- 57:51amazing at CrossFit,
- 57:53but Miriam being the better runner for
- 57:55like a distance event there.
- 57:58But I think both of them have wheelhouse
- 57:59stuff.
- 58:01I think are very similar athletes for the
- 58:06most part.
- 58:06W.R.M.
- 58:06nineteen twenty two.
- 58:07Lucy McGonigal.
- 58:10I don't think she had the performance at
- 58:11the games that the others had.
- 58:12Right.
- 58:14And none of them like went to Rogue
- 58:16or.
- 58:17I think Annika has had a better WFP
- 58:20season.
- 58:22Than them.
- 58:23And that's why I probably should have
- 58:24picked her over Miriam.
- 58:27Just looking at the whole.
- 58:28Yeah.
- 58:32There are a ton of good ones,
- 58:34but I think Annika's performance at the
- 58:37games.
- 58:38Again,
- 58:39Lydia Fish was awesome and the story was
- 58:41awesome,
- 58:42but I don't think she's put together a
- 58:43season like Annika has at this point.
- 58:47My male is, I think,
- 58:48kind of obvious as Ty.
- 58:50Yeah.
- 58:53I mean, I don't even know.
- 58:56Harry would be my other...
- 58:59was this his first year did he second
- 59:01first year okay yeah so and i picked
- 59:04him for a different one so yeah rookie
- 59:08john yeah i didn't think so that's why
- 59:10i didn't put him there put him next
- 59:11one the find the year uh it's twenty
- 59:17twenty five kenneth you can find it on
- 59:20any calendar um
- 59:30Who was the foreign guy that shocked
- 59:33everyone, not Sousa?
- 59:37I did think Sousa had a good game,
- 59:39though.
- 59:40Yeah.
- 59:43Yeah, he did have a good game.
- 59:45I don't know.
- 59:45Kalem Clements?
- 59:46I don't know who else would be...
- 59:52Kalem Bouchard?
- 59:54Bouchard?
- 59:54Whatever, however you say his name.
- 59:55I actually had the game's...
- 59:59No, I think Sousa smashed it.
- 1:00:01He did.
- 1:00:02Killian was the best out of it.
- 1:00:06It'd be Callum Bossard or Caleb Clements.
- 1:00:09Those were the other top twenty.
- 1:00:11So that's who they were referring to.
- 1:00:12Caleb Clements.
- 1:00:14The rope guy surprises that Herman.
- 1:00:16Yeah.
- 1:00:17Yeah.
- 1:00:18Yeah.
- 1:00:19But I don't think it was that.
- 1:00:23Yeah.
- 1:00:24Callum Clements was one spot behind Ty.
- 1:00:27Right.
- 1:00:29Sousa was not a rookie.
- 1:00:31Correct.
- 1:00:33Yeah,
- 1:00:33and then the rest are all long timers.
- 1:00:40Yeah.
- 1:00:41There weren't a lot of rookies on the
- 1:00:45men's side.
- 1:00:45Nope.
- 1:00:47So there we go.
- 1:00:50All right.
- 1:00:51Then we move on to most improved.
- 1:00:55I put Harry Lightfoot and Olivia
- 1:00:58Kerstetter.
- 1:00:58Those are my two that I have.
- 1:01:02I had Amy Kringle and Tudor Magda.
- 1:01:05Love them both.
- 1:01:06Great picks.
- 1:01:07Yep.
- 1:01:08I think if you told people that Tudor
- 1:01:10would finish top ten at the games,
- 1:01:13they would have called you a liar at
- 1:01:14the beginning of the year.
- 1:01:15Yep.
- 1:01:15Except for you and me.
- 1:01:18True.
- 1:01:19We've been longtime Tudor fans.
- 1:01:22And then, but he deserves, like,
- 1:01:24most improved for sure.
- 1:01:27Wasn't even at the games for the last
- 1:01:28two years.
- 1:01:29Right.
- 1:01:30And then to come all the way back.
- 1:01:33Grant, Ty wasn't there the year before.
- 1:01:35He can't be most improved.
- 1:01:37He just got Rookie of the Year, Grant.
- 1:01:40Let it be.
- 1:01:42Exactly.
- 1:01:42He already got something.
- 1:01:46So.
- 1:01:48So you guys had Lightfoot.
- 1:01:51And Olivia.
- 1:01:53And Olivia.
- 1:01:55Olivia didn't make the games last year.
- 1:01:56She's made a massive improvement.
- 1:01:58Okay, I can see that.
- 1:02:00Capodium.
- 1:02:05It's hard because I think it was expected.
- 1:02:07Even though it was massive,
- 1:02:09I think people expected it.
- 1:02:11No, no, I don't think people did.
- 1:02:13I think,
- 1:02:14I think that that actually got a lot
- 1:02:15of tears out of people when,
- 1:02:16when she clinched that podium spot,
- 1:02:19that was huge.
- 1:02:22Okay.
- 1:02:23I wouldn't say that was expected,
- 1:02:25not a podium cracking the top.
- 1:02:28Also would have been like, oh, okay.
- 1:02:30Wow.
- 1:02:30Good improvement.
- 1:02:33Like she has it and then getting the
- 1:02:35podium.
- 1:02:36That's that's huge.
- 1:02:40Um, CrossFit,
- 1:02:42Danielle is kind of impressive there too,
- 1:02:44but is she better?
- 1:02:46I think she is better,
- 1:02:48but I think that it's like we say
- 1:02:50with anybody,
- 1:02:51I think her strength has gotten better,
- 1:02:52but everybody in the field strength has
- 1:02:54gotten better.
- 1:02:55But then you also have to think about,
- 1:02:56there's a lot of very good female athletes
- 1:02:58that were not at the games this year
- 1:03:00too.
- 1:03:00Right.
- 1:03:01Um, but Danielle's had a very, very good,
- 1:03:04uh, good year.
- 1:03:04She's looking awesome.
- 1:03:06I have her somewhere else.
- 1:03:07So she'll get, she'll get an award.
- 1:03:11All right.
- 1:03:12Well, we only have one reward left.
- 1:03:16There you go.
- 1:03:17So the final award of the night is
- 1:03:20MVP.
- 1:03:23And that is male and female.
- 1:03:24Who you got?
- 1:03:27I have Danielle.
- 1:03:28Basically kind of going off like your
- 1:03:31Rogue rankings.
- 1:03:32I mean, she dethroned Tia.
- 1:03:35Now,
- 1:03:35is it because Tia isn't at everything?
- 1:03:36Yeah,
- 1:03:37but I think she's put together an amazing
- 1:03:39year.
- 1:03:39I think she's better at Rogue than...
- 1:03:41people would have expected for a rogue
- 1:03:43performance from Danielle.
- 1:03:44I think she was top notch at tier.
- 1:03:47A lot of it was a SoCal.
- 1:03:49She did a great job as a captain.
- 1:03:51Um,
- 1:03:52and she had a good performance at the
- 1:03:53games.
- 1:03:53I think she's put together a great year.
- 1:03:56She deserves to be up there in the
- 1:03:57captain at SoCal.
- 1:03:58Maybe her most impressive was kept her
- 1:04:02cool.
- 1:04:03She looked like, I, I, I liked,
- 1:04:05I liked seeing her like that.
- 1:04:08I don't know.
- 1:04:09I can't pick anyone else other than Tia
- 1:04:11for MVP.
- 1:04:13I have to pick someone else.
- 1:04:14I know, I know, but like... Yes.
- 1:04:18It's Tia.
- 1:04:19It's Tia.
- 1:04:20And I think we're... I mean,
- 1:04:24I'm with you, Scott, on boys, so... Oh,
- 1:04:30he's leaving us.
- 1:04:32The suspense for the male...
- 1:04:36Well,
- 1:04:36the chat kind of already has thrown it
- 1:04:39out there.
- 1:04:40We got a ton of them.
- 1:04:42And someone agrees with you,
- 1:04:43Sprague and Tia.
- 1:04:45So there you go, Carolyn.
- 1:04:48Yeah,
- 1:04:48I think James has been the most consistent
- 1:04:51of the male athletes at any type of
- 1:04:54event that he's participated in.
- 1:04:56He was podium or right outside at Rogue
- 1:04:59in fourth.
- 1:05:01So consistency across any programing.
- 1:05:06silenced some of the haters i think i
- 1:05:09think he's really made his mark we didn't
- 1:05:13forget scott's gonna say his picks okay
- 1:05:15yeah man i can't believe it okay my
- 1:05:21mvp is a female lucy uh campbell
- 1:05:26I think winning water Palooza two at the
- 1:05:29game.
- 1:05:29I didn't hear what you guys said or
- 1:05:31who you picked.
- 1:05:32Um, and then, uh, male James break.
- 1:05:35I think he had the most consistent season
- 1:05:37from beginning to end, um,
- 1:05:39winning water Palooza third at the games
- 1:05:42and, um,
- 1:05:44doing with leading WFP going into the
- 1:05:46final event and rogue,
- 1:05:48which nobody expects him to do well at
- 1:05:50took forth.
- 1:05:50Exactly.
- 1:05:55Yeah.
- 1:05:55No, we agreed with you.
- 1:05:57We don't think there's really any other
- 1:05:58option other than James for men.
- 1:06:01I mean, there probably are, but I think,
- 1:06:03I think James and Lucy have had a
- 1:06:05very similar type of year.
- 1:06:07Like they're just always at the podium no
- 1:06:09matter what.
- 1:06:10Yeah.
- 1:06:11And they're very similar athletes in terms
- 1:06:13of they're not known to be,
- 1:06:15strength athletes but no no matter what if
- 1:06:19even if there's a strength event they're
- 1:06:21still somewhat at the top of the podium
- 1:06:23towards the like a podium place um because
- 1:06:26they have other great um wheelhouse stuff
- 1:06:30that they can do very well with endurance
- 1:06:33and they're just well-rounded overall like
- 1:06:36they're very similar i think the closest
- 1:06:39to james is ricky
- 1:06:43second at the games um he's done well
- 1:06:47at wfp um wataplooza socal i think he
- 1:06:52held that team together when tia was not
- 1:06:56doing well um so what did he get
- 1:07:01at rogue this weekend or last weekend two
- 1:07:03weeks that was he what was he ahead
- 1:07:07of hopper
- 1:07:13For some reason, who took second?
- 1:07:14I thought it was him.
- 1:07:19It was.
- 1:07:21It was.
- 1:07:22So yeah, that's good.
- 1:07:23I mean... No.
- 1:07:27Second was... Justin.
- 1:07:31Justin took second.
- 1:07:33James took... And Roman got third.
- 1:07:36I'm just trying to see where...
- 1:07:39And then James fourth.
- 1:07:41yeah dylan can't catch a break so yeah
- 1:07:45i think ricky was seventh yeah right
- 1:07:48behind hopper so then i'd argue hopper
- 1:07:51over ricky yeah because he beat games and
- 1:07:58considering that where james placed in
- 1:08:00every event this year with that many
- 1:08:03contenders that's pretty impressive who
- 1:08:08did you guys have for female
- 1:08:11i had danielle i have tia she only
- 1:08:15did one event mike drop the only one
- 1:08:26that also did high rocks like the whole
- 1:08:28year yeah cross fat must not be paying
- 1:08:31attention i picked justin as my comeback
- 1:08:33player athlete of the year you did so
- 1:08:40okay
- 1:08:41Well, that is our season ending awards.
- 1:08:43We'll maybe revisit it after Copenhagen,
- 1:08:46see if anything changes.
- 1:08:47Well, let's play some pen pencil Sharpie.
- 1:08:53Although I do want to ask this question
- 1:08:54before we get into that with rogues do
- 1:08:57standings coming out and Tia not being
- 1:08:59number one.
- 1:09:01Does that,
- 1:09:01is that I watch a show where it's
- 1:09:04like,
- 1:09:04is it a bad day or a bad
- 1:09:06sign?
- 1:09:08And
- 1:09:12Is it a bad game or a bad
- 1:09:13sign?
- 1:09:16Does that now mess up their rankings when
- 1:09:19the greatest female athlete in the world
- 1:09:22is not number one?
- 1:09:23Yes.
- 1:09:25Or is it just because of the way
- 1:09:26she competed?
- 1:09:31I think a lot of rankings...
- 1:09:33she's not number one because they take
- 1:09:35into account how many events people do.
- 1:09:38Like,
- 1:09:38I think it's the same thing with like
- 1:09:39Barkley.
- 1:09:39I don't even think Tia's number one in
- 1:09:41his necessarily like it rewards people
- 1:09:44that are competing all the time.
- 1:09:45And then the strength of field.
- 1:09:46So if you're just doing the games and
- 1:09:48that's it,
- 1:09:48and you're not competing at anywhere else,
- 1:09:51like it's just the way that the point
- 1:09:54systems are getting are rewarding.
- 1:09:57I want to speak to this.
- 1:09:58Can Carolyn's T Carolyn is Tia's biggest
- 1:10:02fan girl literally gets giddy every time
- 1:10:04she says her name.
- 1:10:05Here's what you don't know.
- 1:10:06Here's what you should know about Carolyn.
- 1:10:09Carolyn loves greatness.
- 1:10:11If you've been listening to this show in
- 1:10:14any sport,
- 1:10:15when someone displays greatness,
- 1:10:17she gets giddy.
- 1:10:20And that's what Tia does.
- 1:10:23She's good.
- 1:10:24Like,
- 1:10:26goals yeah all right let's get into pen
- 1:10:33pencil pen and sharpie i did not load
- 1:10:35them in today so i'm just gonna have
- 1:10:36to read them damn it scott you have
- 1:10:42one job this is my sinuses you guys
- 1:10:43know i've been dealing with these sinuses
- 1:10:45and when the temperature drops fifty
- 1:10:46degrees in one day all of a sudden
- 1:10:49the pressure in my sinuses is so bad
- 1:10:51yeah but it affected your fingers to type
- 1:10:54them
- 1:10:55No,
- 1:10:55it affected my eye to look at my
- 1:10:57computer.
- 1:11:00I don't know how to do anything
- 1:11:01technology-wise,
- 1:11:03so I shouldn't be chirping right now.
- 1:11:05All right, here we go.
- 1:11:07Pencil, pen, or Sharpie?
- 1:11:12Yes.
- 1:11:13Scott uses Sudafed as pre-workout.
- 1:11:16Truth.
- 1:11:19Pencil, pen, or Sharpie?
- 1:11:21CrossFit open sign-ups will increase by
- 1:11:23more than twenty percent.
- 1:11:27I wish I could say anything about pencil,
- 1:11:29but I don't think that's realistic.
- 1:11:32Pencil, yeah, that's too much.
- 1:11:36I think it's going to increase, but not.
- 1:11:37Yeah, that's a big ask, twenty percent.
- 1:11:42Well, how many did we have last year?
- 1:11:45Just shy of three hundred thousand.
- 1:11:48And before that,
- 1:11:49we had over four hundred thousand,
- 1:11:51like four fifty.
- 1:11:53So it decreased by way more than twenty
- 1:11:55percent.
- 1:11:56should but i mean they did some things
- 1:12:00right they've got they've got
- 1:12:01announcements out but do i see it getting
- 1:12:05like much above three hundred right now i
- 1:12:08don't know um we've got a pen uh
- 1:12:14paper mate eraser mate pencil pen pencil
- 1:12:22um pencil sharpie hey larry look at you
- 1:12:28Um,
- 1:12:28rounded tip pencil and invisible ink here.
- 1:12:33I'm going to go pen and here's why
- 1:12:35I'm going to go.
- 1:12:36If you watch the podcast with Dawn fall
- 1:12:39and Zia with, uh,
- 1:12:42James Hobart on Thursday,
- 1:12:45Zia saying that there has been an increase
- 1:12:48in people walking through her door because
- 1:12:50of the new marketing campaign.
- 1:12:53She's actually seen a huge growth in,
- 1:12:56from that new campaign,
- 1:13:00that's what's giving me hope.
- 1:13:02Why I can't go Sharpie is because this
- 1:13:05looming, is it going to sell or not?
- 1:13:08That's the piece I just don't know.
- 1:13:10I think they're moving in the right
- 1:13:11direction,
- 1:13:12but that is all meaningless if there's a
- 1:13:14sale to somebody that changes course
- 1:13:17immediately.
- 1:13:18Agreed.
- 1:13:20They need to have a lot of campaigns
- 1:13:23going into the new year when people start
- 1:13:25coming to the gym.
- 1:13:25Like they have to be preparing a bunch
- 1:13:27of stuff right now for that December time
- 1:13:31slash January.
- 1:13:32But like really you need it in December
- 1:13:34to push the January and then into the
- 1:13:36open.
- 1:13:38I agree with this statement.
- 1:13:39I think quarterfinals will bring more and
- 1:13:41more signups.
- 1:13:42I do think that that was a goal
- 1:13:43that people got because it is a realistic
- 1:13:46goal to walk into a gym and want
- 1:13:47to be top twenty five percent.
- 1:13:50yeah when they took that away it took
- 1:13:53a big incentive away from a lot of
- 1:13:54people that's true um if dave would bend
- 1:14:06a tad etched in stone it's hard to
- 1:14:08get excited for the same dumbbell workouts
- 1:14:10a lot will wait and watch
- 1:14:14I don't think you're going to learn much
- 1:14:15in the first workout.
- 1:14:16Even in two thousand twelve,
- 1:14:18when I first started doing the open,
- 1:14:20the first workout wasn't that complicated.
- 1:14:23It shouldn't be because you want everyone
- 1:14:25in your gym to be like,
- 1:14:28I can do that.
- 1:14:28I'll sign up.
- 1:14:29OK.
- 1:14:30Like you don't want to do a twenty
- 1:14:32minute AMRAP for the most part,
- 1:14:33like just like a long,
- 1:14:36slow because it feel like I don't feel
- 1:14:38like doing that.
- 1:14:38I'm not signing up like it needs to
- 1:14:41be accessible.
- 1:14:41Mm hmm.
- 1:14:44I hope that's true.
- 1:14:45The CrossFit gyms near me are struggling.
- 1:14:48Yeah, I could use some science.
- 1:14:50If you are an affiliate owner,
- 1:14:52you need to watch that podcast.
- 1:14:53And the stuff Zia was talking about,
- 1:14:57like what's the responsibility of the
- 1:14:59affiliate owner and what's the
- 1:15:01responsibility of CrossFit and what makes
- 1:15:04her successful?
- 1:15:05She is opening up her second affiliate
- 1:15:07now.
- 1:15:08And it was really a great...
- 1:15:14And I usually hang out in the sports
- 1:15:16side of CrossFit most for this show,
- 1:15:18but this really sucked me in on the
- 1:15:20affiliate side.
- 1:15:21So I will say that I didn't get
- 1:15:25a lot from Dawnfall,
- 1:15:27but we're going to get into that in
- 1:15:28a second.
- 1:15:30Forgot I wrote that down.
- 1:15:30All right.
- 1:15:34Okay, so next one.
- 1:15:37This week,
- 1:15:38we've been talking on the lunch show,
- 1:15:40and I've gotten a lot of comments about
- 1:15:42something.
- 1:15:43And this is a comment that I've gotten
- 1:15:45from listeners,
- 1:15:46and I'm going to pose it to you.
- 1:15:48Pencil, pen, or Sharpie,
- 1:15:49Laura Horvath is afraid to go up against
- 1:15:52Tia Claire Toomey.
- 1:15:54Pencil.
- 1:15:54Pencil for sure.
- 1:15:56She wants to.
- 1:15:58Pencil.
- 1:15:59Yeah.
- 1:16:00Laura has said that she wants to be
- 1:16:03the best.
- 1:16:03If Tia's not there...
- 1:16:06I think she even knows it's somewhat of
- 1:16:10a hollow win.
- 1:16:11There is that question.
- 1:16:14She wants to beat Tia.
- 1:16:15Yeah.
- 1:16:19Yeah,
- 1:16:19and we saw it at Rogue Invitational when
- 1:16:21she beat her.
- 1:16:22Yeah,
- 1:16:24like the only time that she's beat her
- 1:16:26and how much that meant to her,
- 1:16:29like regardless of where Tia was
- 1:16:31post-pregnancy, like that was a win.
- 1:16:34And, you know,
- 1:16:36for all the haters that said anything
- 1:16:38against her winning the twenty twenty
- 1:16:39three games like.
- 1:16:41it just like seems like it was never
- 1:16:43enough for,
- 1:16:43for Laura because she didn't beat Tia,
- 1:16:45but like, she's been hands down,
- 1:16:47not even close.
- 1:16:49The second best CrossFit athlete since,
- 1:16:53not even close since her first year at
- 1:16:57the games.
- 1:16:58You don't get to be a games athlete
- 1:17:01and be afraid.
- 1:17:02No, especially not at her level.
- 1:17:04Right?
- 1:17:04Like she is,
- 1:17:06I would argue the second greatest CrossFit
- 1:17:09athlete on the female side ever.
- 1:17:14And you don't get there being afraid.
- 1:17:17It just does.
- 1:17:18Like that is not a champion's mindset and
- 1:17:21you don't get to that championship level
- 1:17:23having those types of fears.
- 1:17:25She just needs the field to be better.
- 1:17:28Just like people needed the field to be
- 1:17:30better against Matt,
- 1:17:31but we're just not there.
- 1:17:34Right.
- 1:17:35Like she's just so far ahead as well
- 1:17:37in second place.
- 1:17:38Um,
- 1:17:40Because there are events that she blows
- 1:17:43everyone out of the water, including Tia,
- 1:17:46but she's just not getting anyone
- 1:17:47middling.
- 1:17:50Tia's also so consistent.
- 1:17:53She said in one of the documentaries how
- 1:17:55much she wants to beat Tia.
- 1:17:56Of course.
- 1:17:59Harder for Laura to overcome,
- 1:18:01Tia or strict deficit handstand push-ups?
- 1:18:03Strict deficit handstand push-ups.
- 1:18:10All right.
- 1:18:14Next one.
- 1:18:16Don Fall on that same podcast I just
- 1:18:19talked about said he wasn't public facing
- 1:18:23enough over the last fifteen months.
- 1:18:28Is that good for CrossFit's momentum that
- 1:18:30he admitted that and a step forward for
- 1:18:34CrossFit?
- 1:18:38I said pencil to this.
- 1:18:44Pencil,
- 1:18:45like nothing means anything until action
- 1:18:47is seen.
- 1:18:49But it is nice to recognize that,
- 1:18:51for sure.
- 1:18:52Like you want to see.
- 1:18:56Yeah.
- 1:18:58You're going to be more forward facing,
- 1:18:59like we want to see it again,
- 1:19:00you know.
- 1:19:02Don is always like, he's,
- 1:19:05he's just a talker.
- 1:19:06Like he has that corporate speak.
- 1:19:08He's,
- 1:19:12but most of it is meaningless to me.
- 1:19:13Like every time I've heard him talk,
- 1:19:15I just like sitting there like, okay,
- 1:19:19what did you actually say?
- 1:19:20What are we actually going to see?
- 1:19:21Like, and,
- 1:19:22and I've never actually seen anything.
- 1:19:26It's why was he, was there,
- 1:19:30I didn't watch it.
- 1:19:31Was there,
- 1:19:33Context given to why he hasn't been,
- 1:19:35it's like he went into hiding after the
- 1:19:37death and didn't want to be seen and
- 1:19:40the ache.
- 1:19:44I'll take it a step further.
- 1:19:46I think that he not only went into
- 1:19:48hiding,
- 1:19:49he let one particular person take all the
- 1:19:53heat for everything that happened.
- 1:19:55Exactly.
- 1:19:57And it wasn't a one individual person.
- 1:20:03Yeah.
- 1:20:05Any mistakes made if you've worked in the
- 1:20:07corporate world at all,
- 1:20:09shit rolls downhill.
- 1:20:11So Dave took it all,
- 1:20:13but it is a,
- 1:20:14it is an organizational mistake.
- 1:20:16It is not a one person mistake because
- 1:20:20at, at the end of the day,
- 1:20:22everybody in line of that is,
- 1:20:24is responsible.
- 1:20:30Yeah.
- 1:20:30Yeah.
- 1:20:30And to me, like,
- 1:20:32that says a lot a lot about him
- 1:20:35and I like it would be very hard
- 1:20:38for me to ever like trust him or
- 1:20:40have a whole lot of respect in him
- 1:20:41again,
- 1:20:42like even if he's willing to be more
- 1:20:46forward facing it that so what we just
- 1:20:48get more corporate speak from him doesn't
- 1:20:50still doesn't do anything for me.
- 1:20:51Yeah,
- 1:20:55like what what are you looking for him
- 1:20:57to do like more talks like in terms
- 1:20:59of
- 1:21:00how Greg was talking about CrossFit and
- 1:21:03pushing it.
- 1:21:05What does he need to do to,
- 1:21:08I guess, redeem himself?
- 1:21:11What are you looking for him to do?
- 1:21:14I want to see a set of goals
- 1:21:16set and adhered to.
- 1:21:22This is our North Star.
- 1:21:23This is what we are about.
- 1:21:25This is where we're moving and actually
- 1:21:28see the action steps into moving in that
- 1:21:30direction.
- 1:21:31I think CrossFit has not had that since.
- 1:21:36I think when Greg fired the media
- 1:21:47department,
- 1:21:48we lost our North star before that it
- 1:21:52was about promoting what we do for health,
- 1:21:55what we do to get people living better
- 1:21:57lives, what we do for all of that.
- 1:22:01And once that media team was disbanded
- 1:22:04completely, now,
- 1:22:06could it have been reduced and still move
- 1:22:08forward with those goals?
- 1:22:09Sure.
- 1:22:10But that's not the choice Greg made at
- 1:22:11the time.
- 1:22:12He wiped it clean.
- 1:22:14And then they could not do the promotion
- 1:22:19of what CrossFit was all about.
- 1:22:24Yeah.
- 1:22:25The problem is,
- 1:22:27It was very clear what Greg's mission was.
- 1:22:30And Greg was willing to take on Coca-Cola
- 1:22:35or Pepsi or whatever.
- 1:22:36He was willing to take on anyone,
- 1:22:38the NICA.
- 1:22:42Don and HQ are about bumping up the
- 1:22:47numbers.
- 1:22:47And I don't see anything they can do
- 1:22:50that actually...
- 1:22:54makes things better for the affiliates so
- 1:22:59when they came out with bumping up numbers
- 1:23:00makes it better for the affiliates so when
- 1:23:03they came out with the marketing campaign
- 1:23:05of f the quick fix um i think
- 1:23:11it was a it was good with a
- 1:23:13step short of glp ones are making are
- 1:23:17not the answer
- 1:23:19Like instead of hiding behind a curse word
- 1:23:24and calling it a quick fix,
- 1:23:26let's call it what it is.
- 1:23:27GOP ones are changing the face of what
- 1:23:30people are calling health and it's wrong.
- 1:23:33And here's the science.
- 1:23:34Let's move in that direction.
- 1:23:39But are they going to take on big
- 1:23:40pharma?
- 1:23:41No.
- 1:23:42Like HQ is not,
- 1:23:44this venture capitalist is not going to
- 1:23:45take on,
- 1:23:47big pharma and start putting that kind of
- 1:23:48message out with like there's more,
- 1:23:51they attack that kind of stuff.
- 1:23:53Probably the more they're going to get,
- 1:23:54I mean, I don't even know.
- 1:23:57I don't know how that works in the
- 1:23:59corporate world.
- 1:23:59I just,
- 1:24:00I can see that not ending well for
- 1:24:02CrossFit.
- 1:24:04But I don't think CrossFit should look at
- 1:24:05itself as a part of the corporate world.
- 1:24:08I think it needs to look at itself
- 1:24:09as, Hey, we are the difference.
- 1:24:12We're, we're not,
- 1:24:14tech company we are not big pharma we
- 1:24:16are to make you healthy this is the
- 1:24:19long-term solution i don't know yeah i i
- 1:24:27get it i i think that's the proper
- 1:24:29take i just don't know if this a
- 1:24:31venture capitalist company is going to
- 1:24:33take that stance that's a hard line to
- 1:24:36draw
- 1:24:40I think CrossFit also needs a, like,
- 1:24:42what is CrossFit campaign?
- 1:24:45Like actually well-defined for like a
- 1:24:49promotional type thing,
- 1:24:51not just something that like they'll read
- 1:24:52on the CrossFit.com, but like an actual,
- 1:24:57I don't know,
- 1:24:57really good one minute video that can get
- 1:24:59pushed.
- 1:25:01And what it's not and the misconceptions
- 1:25:04of it.
- 1:25:05And like, keep pushing that.
- 1:25:08Cause I mean,
- 1:25:08it's still a negative taboo word.
- 1:25:13It seems, you know, it is.
- 1:25:15So you almost have to lean into it
- 1:25:17and be like, this is not across,
- 1:25:20you know, like whatever,
- 1:25:21but like some sort of campaign like that.
- 1:25:27Yeah,
- 1:25:27I think I like the campaigns that are
- 1:25:29coming out.
- 1:25:30I think they're missing two pieces and
- 1:25:32that is straight out bluntness of,
- 1:25:36of what you're talking about.
- 1:25:38Um,
- 1:25:39and to an action step at the end,
- 1:25:42this is where you can find help.
- 1:25:44Go, go to an affiliate map.
- 1:25:48That's,
- 1:25:48that's the piece I think they're missing.
- 1:25:52But if you listen to Zia,
- 1:25:55she's like it's charging the base and the
- 1:25:57base are bringing in more people to her
- 1:25:59affiliates.
- 1:26:00So maybe that's the start it needs to
- 1:26:02be.
- 1:26:05And so I don't want to like dog
- 1:26:07on Jenna or anybody for putting these out
- 1:26:09because I think they're quality.
- 1:26:10I think they are getting people fired up.
- 1:26:13But I don't know what the end result
- 1:26:15is.
- 1:26:16Are they getting to the right people to
- 1:26:17bring them into the affiliates?
- 1:26:19Right.
- 1:26:21But Zia is saying they are at the
- 1:26:24front lines working for her.
- 1:26:27I mean,
- 1:26:27I feel like until affiliate numbers grow,
- 1:26:30both number of affiliates and individuals
- 1:26:33inside the affiliates, I mean,
- 1:26:38we're losing.
- 1:26:39So, yeah.
- 1:26:46All right.
- 1:26:48All right.
- 1:26:50let's end it there.
- 1:26:51I don't, I,
- 1:26:53I don't think we know enough about the
- 1:26:54next one to talk about it enough earlier
- 1:26:56on in the show.
- 1:26:57All right.
- 1:26:58Um,
- 1:26:58so maybe we'll save it for another one.
- 1:27:00Okay.
- 1:27:01But, uh,
- 1:27:01I think it's been good conversation.
- 1:27:03Um,
- 1:27:04if you have any ideas for show topics,
- 1:27:07shoot them to us in the,
- 1:27:08in the comments below while you're doing
- 1:27:10that, make sure you like,
- 1:27:11and subscribe to the channel that really
- 1:27:13helps us.
- 1:27:14And it helps our algorithm.
- 1:27:16And, um,
- 1:27:20I agree, Scott, but Fired Up is great.
- 1:27:23Last few years, it's only been pissed off.
- 1:27:25And I see that point, Larry.
- 1:27:28And maybe this is step one that it
- 1:27:30needs.
- 1:27:30You need to get the base back up
- 1:27:32and then from there,
- 1:27:33then reach out to the next group.
- 1:27:35Yeah.
- 1:27:37And so maybe that's what it is.
- 1:27:38I think they're good.
- 1:27:39I'm not dogging them at all.
- 1:27:41I think the production's good.
- 1:27:42I think... I think they're good.
- 1:27:48Yeah, I do too.
- 1:27:48I just...
- 1:27:51at the very minimum,
- 1:27:52I wish there was a link at the,
- 1:27:53at the end saying,
- 1:27:54here's your affiliate map,
- 1:27:56go find an answer.
- 1:27:59And then just stories like every,
- 1:28:00every day, every week,
- 1:28:02stories of members and affiliates,
- 1:28:04what's going on, um, what they do,
- 1:28:07how they're doing CrossFit,
- 1:28:08like more stories all the time.
- 1:28:17Uh, uh,
- 1:28:22I think eighteen was really damaging and
- 1:28:24people forget about it because of the
- 1:28:27change of leadership that happened two
- 1:28:28years later.
- 1:28:29And they blame that when really the
- 1:28:32downward trend started in eighteen.
- 1:28:43Yeah.
- 1:28:43And no call to action.
- 1:28:46Links, choose your own adventure.
- 1:28:48I like that.
- 1:28:55Twenty made eighteen forgettable.
- 1:28:58Yeah.
- 1:28:58Yeah.
- 1:29:02But if you... Hiller, they're wasteful.
- 1:29:13Loving all the stuff you've been putting
- 1:29:14out, Andrew.
- 1:29:15It's been good.
- 1:29:17So, Hiller, what I would ask you is...
- 1:29:20What Zia said on the CrossFit podcast on
- 1:29:23Thursday made me reconsider some of the
- 1:29:27things I've been saying about the ads and
- 1:29:31that they are working for her.
- 1:29:33And so I'm curious to know your thoughts
- 1:29:36on that at some point.
- 1:29:37Doesn't have to be tonight,
- 1:29:38but I'm curious about that because she was
- 1:29:44adamant that they are working for her and
- 1:29:46she is very thankful for them.
- 1:29:49But she's also adamant about there are
- 1:29:51roles that HQ needs to play and what
- 1:29:53the affiliate owner needs to play and that
- 1:29:55they should not cross.
- 1:30:04While Hiller is here,
- 1:30:06maybe he's still here,
- 1:30:08he should come to the Everyday Heroes
- 1:30:10competition this weekend at Mayhem.
- 1:30:11Oh, that's right.
- 1:30:14Carolyn's competing this weekend.
- 1:30:16Jack Rosema is competing this weekend.
- 1:30:19I think Don Paul is supposed to be
- 1:30:20there this weekend.
- 1:30:22That's what we heard.
- 1:30:23There you go, Hiller.
- 1:30:24Go get an interview.
- 1:30:25He's probably tired of traveling, though.
- 1:30:27If you stay home,
- 1:30:27I will not blame you.
- 1:30:29South Korea.
- 1:30:31Well, last year,
- 1:30:31the educators took dead last.
- 1:30:34You going to change that up?
- 1:30:35Heck yeah.
- 1:30:37Get it, girl.
- 1:30:37All right.
- 1:30:40Do you know who your teammate is?
- 1:30:41Are you not willing to say that?
- 1:30:43No, I, yeah, I, um, I, uh,
- 1:30:45I picked the one that finished in second.
- 1:30:47We actually met this week.
- 1:30:48We did a,
- 1:30:49like a interview with Bella and that was
- 1:30:53the first time we've seen each other on
- 1:30:54video, but we've been chatting.
- 1:30:57Um, Arkansas.
- 1:30:59Okay.
- 1:31:01So she finished second in the,
- 1:31:03like in the division for educators.
- 1:31:07I think she did semifinals before her name
- 1:31:09is, uh, Maddie, Maddie Edwards.
- 1:31:12Okay.
- 1:31:15Good luck, Carolyn.
- 1:31:17Yeah.
- 1:31:18And I did hear them say that they're
- 1:31:20going to make a full highlight documentary
- 1:31:23that Mayhem's putting out right
- 1:31:24afterwards.
