[upbeat rock music] Think, hey, hey- I think that Daniel's- Hey... running a bit enough on you. [laughs] Hey, hey. What's, what's going on over there? [upbeat rock music] Hey.
0:13
Hey, welcome to the Full Spectrum Cycling podcast, radio program thing, everybody. Today is show number 180. Yeah, we're gonna spin things completely around right now. It's, uh- I-... it's JK over there. Yeah.
0:29
It's Tony nearby. Yep. It's Sam D just to my left. Oh-ho-hoy. Likely, likely- Well-... we'll have Mr. Dave Slabowski calling in in a little bit. All right. Uh, heck it. It's 180. It's not a big show, it's just a- Oh.
0:45
It's just another- Turn of the pass. Right, right. Yeah. Yeah. What, top of the hill? Already? No. Jeez. No. No. That was a false, false flat. This is o- The 180. [laughs] This is, yeah, this is a- Publis with us...
0:57
this is B- Bizzaro land show. So- Yeah. Okay... don't believe anything I say. Today- Except that- Is the first day of the rest of your life. I don't know. So what did we do this weekend?
1:09
There was a WMSC big backyard barbecue. Yes. Sans barbecue, I noticed. How weird. Really? Yeah. There were no barbecue- There was no barbecues? No. No, there weren't. So, so there was Gold.
1:23
It was more of a music- The g- oh... a music thing. Yes. It was... And there was a g- g- gol, la, la, da, dee. Did you by chance see Gorilla Ghost? 'Cause they're also fantastic. We did see, yes- Mm... the Ghost.
1:33
Um- Some of those, I, I mean, I had a very great time, but I can also much more appreciate a lot of those bands in a more intimate environment than a band show. Perhaps- In the day... perhaps darker with more- With-...
1:50
light showing- Yeah, yeah... going on. And not a dancing, [laughs] that dancing fool with the- That wa- I didn't, I didn't even get a picture- The, the-... of that thing. It was like a rabbit or something.
2:01
He's at a lot of events and- Yeah... whatever. I don't know. His, just his shenanigans just landed wrong with the toxicity of myself and others around me. Oh.
2:12
So are you saying- Where it was just like, it was like, dude, just get out of the way. Gold is playing. They're here to see that, not this guy trying to balance a bottle- Oh, that dude... of water- Oh...
2:23
on top of his head and dance like this- It was funny... and do it poorly, and drop it a couple times, you know? I mean- Yeah... if you're doing it good- No... eh, I'll give you a- So w-... slightly a pass. No.
2:34
But when you keep just dropping the shit in front of you, that's like the guy who's like, "Hey, kick flips for tips" and can never land a kick flip, and just all of a sudden makes a bam, bam, bam racket.
2:45
That's all I was dealing with. So you're, you're saying- Now I got that off my chest. [laughs] You're saying you'd rather see a band like Gold in an environment like X-Ray Arcade, where... Who's playing next weekend?
2:59
Ah, Daikaiju. Is that, that's next weekend? I don't even know. It is next weekend. We will see Daikaiju. Oh, no kidding. What's the date of that? At X-Ray Cur- September 10th. Saturday. This Saturday?
3:08
Uh, a week from this Saturday. Oh, okay. I may- A day after the National Holiday... have maybe missed that. Have you ever seen Daikaiju live? Yeah, several times actually. You should, you should go see Daikaiju.
3:17
I've seen them- What's the national holiday, your birthday? [laughs] My birthday. My birthday is the day before that, which is National Holiday this year. And, yes- 9/9...
3:27
there is gonna be a musical event over at The Fair Uptowner. Oh. So this is my early promotion- Come- Whatever... come Friday the 9th to the Uptowner- Yeah... for JK's. It'll be about six o'clock. 50th birthday.
3:41
50th birthday. Oh. Mrs. Fun is confirmed- Working... which is a local- Well, yeah- I like the name... semi, semi-national... semi-national. I mean, but roots here in Milwaukee and just- Is Billy playing drums?
3:53
Do you know? What's that? Kim? Just Billy, Billy playing drums for Mrs. Fun? Kim. Kim Zick. [singing] Oh. [laughs] Billy steps in once in a while for, for them. Don't know who Billy is.
4:04
I don't know what you're talking about. Little blue crunchy thing. Don't know what you're talking about, Willis. You know what I mean, crunchy thing. Um, and, uh- Little purple crunchy thing. Ooh.
4:11
[laughs] And Voot Warnings. Voot- Also confirmed... also confirmed. Not sure, we may have an act or two that thr- you know, slide in there, um, hopefully. What time does that start on the 9th, Friday?
4:24
Probably about 6:00-ish. A, a week from today. Probably 6:00. Right on. It's a Friday. It's, you know, just wanna have it land, whatever. My mom's gonna be there [laughs] for a little bit of it. And you're promoting it?
4:34
Yeah. A little. That's- No. No, no, no, no, no. That was the whole fucking thing.
4:37
I was like, I, like, "Yeah, man, I'm gonna have a blowout" And then it was like, [burps] man, the logistics of this, I don't wanna deal with that. Well, you shouldn't have to throw your own party, I guess. So I put it...
4:46
No, I just... Well, no, I just put it on the shelf. You know, I just was like, "Oh, you know, hey, write this in pencil, guys." You know. [smacks lips] We talking Friday night? Yeah.
4:56
And I was like, like, El Rongo and whatever. And- Nice... I mean- [laughs] I'll try to be there for sure. I don't know. I don't know. I, I kinda put that on the shelf with them, too.
5:05
I just said, "Right, eh," but, you know. I maybe just have a good time. I mean, I don't know. I'm gonna save myself up for Daikaiju the next day. [laughs] Good call. 'Cause, you know- So that's next Friday...
5:16
it's like, it's like, yeah, I don't wanna have the super blowout blowout, you know? Right. And it's like, ah, no, like a little, you know... And Voot. I mean, come on. Voot, Voot. Dance, motherfucker, dance.
5:25
You know, one of the early Milwaukee... I don't know. It's gonna be a very Milwaukee-centric show. It's gonna be a lot of fun, man. You know. And they, as Voot- Sounds nice...
5:34
mentioned the other time, uh, they, not the first time they shared a stage. You know, they played way back, like, in, you know, '80s, formative- Very cool... '90s, and whatever. So- Wow. Well, there you go...
5:45
being 50 and m- making, like, a slightly nostalgic show. I don't know. Whatever. Get some rolls. Get some pictures at that show. I'm having [laughs] a crisis on the airwaves, if you're not noticing. Yeah.
5:57
It's getting close. I'm gonna be 50. It's a little, man, 50's a big deal. Yeah, whatever. All right. I'll be okay. You're doing pretty well. Look, a blue car We can change the subject [laughs] What? What?
6:09
It's kinda hard to see a blue car when you're in the white room- I was trying to-... with these black curtains I just... Right? Studio. I was, uh, working on a Wednesday frame just before the show. Oh.
6:21
We got a couple frame sets in Wednesdays. I would recommend that people face their head tubes if they happen to get a frame set. 'Cause it doesn't come faced? Well, they never do. No, I... It's- You know, but-...
6:36
certainly... now a lot of people just slam them together, and these were just a little bit off. So going and doing your- Do a nice little face... due diligence on your facing of- Yeah...
6:44
the bottom bracket and the head tube would be a good thing. I think a lot of people that order these online slam them together and then- They don't...
6:51
wonder why they're not quite perfect, so get yourself to your local bike shop and have them at least do the machine work, even if you're gonna- Yeah... put the thing together yourself.
6:59
It's not that expensive if they've got the tools. I mean, 40 bucks. Well, the tools are expensive [laughs] Well, right, but you- You don't wanna buy them yourself... make it up over doing them, like- Oh, yeah.
7:07
Yeah, for sure... that's what you charge. Like, what do you charge to face? Yeah. 40? Probably with the, with both the bottom bracket and the head tube, probably 50- 50 bucks... give or take. Man, that's- I don't know...
7:16
money well spent. I'd have to look at the cheat sheet, but you know, today, w- it took, took 40 minutes to do both, and the derailleur hanger too. Might as well while you're there. Yeah, right. Right.
7:26
So it all goes together super beautiful. Nice. Hopefully. And it's a Wednesday. Yeah. And I'm robbing parts from my other fat bike 'cause I don't need another fourth or fifth fat bike.
7:39
I only need- Need is never discussed in this- I think one or two is probably the right number of fat bikes now. [laughs] I have two. You have two.
7:47
Well, I have one official fat bike, and then I have three plus-sized bikes. Okay. So I'm pretty all in on the larger tires, that's for sure. Right on. Yeah, you're- I sold my Moonlander. Oh. Oh.
7:58
First bike I've really sold almo- almost ever. [laughs] Wait, to a friend, right? Yeah. Of course. Actually, no.
8:05
I let my friend sell it, and I let him get some money out of it, so yeah, I just basically stood there and let my friend list it on eBay, and there it went.
8:14
So you were relating a ride out at the Kettle Moraine Mirror Trails. You've been out there quite a bit lately. This- Yeah, quite a bit. Uh, just went and did, uh, the big ride. Uh, did the
8:27
Mirror Green all the way to the... Basically did the whole connector and did the whole Emma. It's, like, 28 or something. Sweet Lady Emma. I think it's- It's 30- I think it's 30-something... 30-something now. Yeah.
8:37
Yeah, it keeps, it changes a little bit over the years with- How is Sweet Lady Emma?... rerouting. It is wonderful. Sweet Lady Emma.
8:43
We, we, we- I've not touched- We finally did the right pace where it didn't just kill us.
8:48
[laughs] I'm used to chasing people on that ride, and it was a, a much more enjoyable experience to just kick it back a little bit and just enjoy it. I like to stop often on that ride. We didn't stop too often.
8:59
You know, if you stop often, it could turn into a five-plus hour- Oh, yeah... experience real quick. [laughs] I always figure going out to Mirror's an all-day affair anyway. It was.
9:06
So between getting out there and getting your bike ready and doing your ride and sitting around having a beer and, you know, whatever, whatever, it's a whole day- Actually, one-... basically...
9:14
one of my funnier stories is I know a guy who lives in Leadville, Colorado, and he showed up...
9:20
He's from Madison originally, and he showed up at John Muir, and he was prepping his bike and having a smoke and was wearing jean shorts and a shirt.
9:29
And three guys in kits showed up, and we're like, "You shouldn't be smoking cigarettes," and gave him all this shit. And he's like, "Tell you what, give you guys a lead- [laughs]... and I'm gonna pass you."
9:38
[laughs] And they're like, "You're so full of shit." And he had his bike hung back on his rack and ready to roll when these guys pulled up, and they're like, "How in the hell did you did, do that?"
9:49
He's like, "I live at 11,000 feet altitude." Yeah. He's like, "When I come to Wisconsin, I have more oxygen than a human should have." For sure. [laughs] He's like, "I'm on fire." No doubt. And he, he literally, like...
10:01
These guys were just like, "Oh my God." Hey, everybody, I'm gonna push the button over here. Uh-oh. Pushing the button. Push, push the button. Uh-oh. I push, I push the button. Welcome to the radio program caller.
10:11
Who do we have on the line? It's, uh, Seely Dave calling in from the final, uh, cabana night at the Sawmill Saloon. Yeah, I could hear a little bit of, uh- Sean and Ian...
10:24
little- Sean and Ian are just closing out on their cover of Creep by Radiohead. [laughs] Yeah, I could hear a little, uh, revelry or, or songing in the background. Yep, yep. They, everything...
10:35
They do everything from, like, 16 Tons to, uh, Radiohead, to, uh, 4 Non Blondes, to you name it. Um, [laughs] it's a, it's a weird thing, and it's a father-son band. Um, but
10:51
they both have good voices, and they're talented musicians, so it's, it's, it's a little cringey.
10:58
[laughs] Um, you know, when they talk about, "This is our favorite love song, and we're gonna sing it for you," you know, and it's, uh... Oh, what's that, uh... God, what's the band? Uh, starts with a P. Um, "I'm not...
11:12
I will walk 500 miles." Oh, God. Uh- Proclaimers... uh, the Proclaimers. [laughs] That's apparently their favorite love song. Oh, boy. Mm.
11:20
And I'm like, do, do son and dad sit around together in the living room and think, "Dad, what's your- I will stand up... favorite love song?... 500 miles. And then let's sing it together." I will ride- I don't know...
11:28
500 miles. They're very good. It's fun, but it's a little cringey. [laughs] Cool. Well, it's Seely Dave, everybody, in case... Did we say that before? Hey. Hey, Seely Dave. Sorry, man. He said it. He's in Seely. Hey.
11:38
[laughs] Damn it. [laughs] Um, in the heart of Seely at the Sawmill Saloon. There's heart and moon. [laughs] Taking a break to call you guys. Right on. Yeah, so I'll be up there in a, in, in just a little while.
11:50
[laughs] I might already be there. Yeah. I don't know. Uh, it is the- Oh, good lord. [laughs] Well, it's, it's the first, uh, NICA high school mountain bike team race of the year. Right.
11:59
And they decided to do it up there in, uh, wonderful Cable, Wisconsin. As a matter of fact- Yeah, yeah... it's even a, it's even a mandatory race.
12:07
I, I don't know if it's just for our team or for everyone, but- This was not one- Wow... because there's so many people in NICA now, you have to pick, I think f- Yeah... five out of the seven races or something.
12:17
I don't remember how it exactly worked, but you can't go to them all because they can't accommodate all these, all these racers at some of these venues. Wow. But, uh- That's cool...
12:24
I think up there in Cable, they could accommodate a hell of a lot more than 1,500 people if they really wanted to.
12:30
Yeah, obviously we can and, um, you know, I mean, it, it does get complicated with, uh, um, places to stay, but, you know, we have the Birkie and, you know, the Strong and Mountain Bike Festival, so obviously we can accommodate all those people.
12:45
But, um, you end up starting to stay further and further away. Um, are you guys camping? Are- Uh, well, here's the deal... are you camping? We're, we're staying at the St- Oh, no, you're at Start Line. Yep.
12:55
You're at the Start Line Inn, yeah. Right. You're at- So that'll be, that'll be- You're in the best-... Wendy and I-... best fucking place to stay for, yeah...
13:02
the, the boy, the [laughs] the boy will be camping just for the camaraderie on Saturday night with the team. Oh, okay. But, yeah, then we're, I'll be up there Friday, tom- today, Friday. Today.
13:12
[laughs] And then- I'm there. I'm already there... I'm already there. I'm already there. And then, uh, I'll be staying through, I think Tuesday, but they're gonna have to come back on Monday.
13:18
[laughs] Onna kinda school and all that business is, is getting going down here. Um, what, what- Okay... so what do you, what is the NICA course like?
13:25
We have another NICA fa- like, we have, like, a NICA family staying at our place.
13:30
Um, I don't know, I can't remember how long they're, they're staying, but, so our place is booked with them, but I'll definitely, you know, I don't have any responsibilities for the event, so I'll, I'll be around if you wanna grab a beer or something- Right on...
13:43
at some point. What's, what is the course like for the NICA folk? So, you know, it's weird. Um, the, the Birkie, um, they were, um,
13:57
you know, they've, they've, they're not unfamiliar with setting up courses and they've, and, and the head of the event, um, department for the Birkie, um, Chrissy Maki, is, had two kids that both were high school NICA racers, so they're very familiar with,
14:16
with that.
14:18
However, I was, I heard through the grapevine that the new NICA leadership showed up and wanted nothing to do with any of their advice about course and said, "Here's how it's gonna be," and just told them- Wow...
14:32
"This is what the course is gonna be." That doesn't- So, so I don't really know- Doesn't sound like-... what, what it is... a good plan Um- Wow, that sounds douchey.
14:40
[laughs] Well, I mean, how do you- You know, it's kind of funny- Douchey... with the NICA kids, right? Because, like, those kids will race on anything.
14:46
You could put them in a parking lot at Target and tell them to go race, and they'll just do it, right? So part of it is about, like, a big part of it is about, like, you know, um, about, uh, family viewing, you know?
15:01
So, you know, mom and dad and grandparents and stuff can, can watch the race, so the course needs to be accessible.
15:08
Um, but, um, but yeah, they had, the Birkie folks and, and the Birkie folks are building a whole bunch of new really cool mountain bike stuff by the Telemark start area where the race is gonna be. Um,
15:23
but however, it sounded to me like they didn't want anything to do with any of their advice and they have their own ideas. So- That's- So I don't know... very weird.
15:31
Well, I would, it, is, is there gonna be single track do you think? Or is it mostly gonna be, like, Birkie trail?
15:37
I, the, the Birkie just built, and they're building a whole bunch of new sort of trail that's flowy and wider and suitable for, like, a, a NICA race or a WARS race.
15:52
And, um, so they've got a bunch of that already built up there. Um, and it doesn't sound like they're utilizing any of it. Hmm. I just rode it today, um, just 'cause I hadn't been out there.
16:06
They were still building on it. Um, they still had a mini X out there, and they were still working on it, but I rode a bunch of it, and it was pretty sweet and wide enough for, you know,
16:19
you couldn't hold a whole race on, you know, four-foot wide sort of, you know, mountain bike trails. But, um, but you could throw this in and it would be really fun. Um, it was flowy and- That's annoying...
16:32
you know, machine built and stuff, so I don't really know what, what the next, what the plan is for the race. Um- Well, we'll find out on Sunday...
16:39
the guy that's in charge of that was texting me about the Strong Again Mountain Bike Festival course that they're tweaking, and I did the mapping for that, so he was just texting me about some of that.
16:51
So I can find out, but not before this podcast gets published. [laughs] Right on. Um, so that's happening on Sunday, the race, and then, uh, y- we s- [laughs]...
17:01
saw that you, uh, just published another ride up that way too, the Valhalla Beach Party. A route, yeah, yeah.
17:08
Uh, that whole Valhalla Beach Party thing that you helped me scout some of that route, I didn't end up using the far south stuff down by Moqua that you and I rode, uh, 'cause I wanted to shorten it up.
17:19
And so yeah, so Josh Rizzo from the North, NXRTH website- N-X-R-T-H...
17:26
um, and Eric Weniger from Embark Maple, Eric AKA The Fox, from Embark Maple Sports Nutrition in Brokaw, they both heard me on your last podcast or, or not the last one, the one before that, or a couple before that, where I was talking about it, and then, like, two days later, they're like, "Hey, can we come along?"
17:48
So they joined us, joined me. Um, Eric came on his ancient single speed Pugsley, toting a packraft and wearing his long underwear fox suit, and Josh borrowed a fat bike.
18:03
He didn't even have a fat bike, but rode it with me and made that video. Maybe you can link it in your show notes. Um- Yeah, I took a, I took a look at it. It's some interesting terrain up there- Yeah...
18:13
for sure The video was nice. Yeah, I mean, you rode on a bunch of that stuff, so you know it's steep and soft in sections, you know? Yes, for sure.
18:22
So even though the route is only 80 miles, it's not what I would call easy. You know, it's got 4,000 feet of climbing and, uh, um, it, it isn't what I would call easy.
18:35
But so Josh published that video, and then, um, a couple...
18:41
A week or so after he published that video, I got an email from Logan Watts from bikepacking.com saying he had seen it and wanted me to submit that route to bikepacking.com for their, like, local overnighters sort of filling the map thing.
18:57
They're trying to... They've got all kinds of great, you know, tour divide, sort of like all these super epic routes on their website.
19:05
But they don't have a ton of more shorter, accessible routes for people to do, you know, in a two-day or three-day trip. So he asked me to, to up- So I, I am publishing that on bikepacking.com. Cool.
19:20
So that should be up soon. Right on. Yeah, so that's kinda stoked. Um, yeah, like you wanna include the link to the video or something like that in, uh, your show notes, that'd be great. It is a fun route. It...
19:32
As you rode with me, it's steep and soft and sandy in a lot of sections. It's not easy, but it's pretty fun, and the new route is- Thanks... it's designed around fat bikes or plus bikes.
19:45
And it's just a whole- So do you think, like a, like a-... bunch of- Do, do you think a 29 plus type bike would be okay on it? Yes- Okay... for sure. For sure. I've ridden it, though, on 2.4s and,
19:57
you know, even at like, you know, 10 PSI on a 2.4 inch multi-bike tire on my 29er, there's spots on, you know, that get chewed up by the ATVs and stuff that are pretty soft.
20:10
So, but that, that would probably honestly be the fastest bike if this was a race. [laughs] But I, I mean, why not just ride a fat bike and then never have to walk- Right... get off the bike? Right. Yeah.
20:23
You can just walk it. Yeah, for sure. Um, and the way we... I designed the route, it's around a whole bunch of really good spots to swim at.
20:30
Ideally, people ride this in warm weather and stop and swim at all the little lakes, as well as the couple of really great beaches on the South Shore of Lake Superior that I have on the route.
20:41
How, how are the black flies this year? Uh, it's 80 miles total. It's... You know, they were challenging, um, when we rode it, and it was 90 plus degrees- Oof... when we rode it.
20:52
So, um, so it was pretty hot, and we, we ran out of water. I mean, we didn't run out because we g- always could filter, but we had to stop at most the lakes and, and cool off and...
21:06
So, and black flies, as you know, can fly about as fast as you can bike. Um, so- [laughs] Oddly. Buckers. Yeah, oddly enough. Buckers.
21:14
But, but if you wanted to ride this, like, now, like, all the inland lakes are still super swimmable. And the two beaches that I picked on the shore of Lake Superior are shallow beaches, so the water's warmer.
21:31
So I think, honestly, this time of year might be a great time of year to ride that, 'cause the bugs are down, the black flies are not nearly as bad- Water's warmer...
21:40
the mosquitoes are not bad, and, uh, you can always stop and swim and cool off and get away from the bugs.
21:46
Well, I've kinda been trying to follow the weather a little bit up there for the coming weekend, and notice that you've got a lot more temperature swing up there than we do down here in the south. Sure.
21:58
Like, it's gonna be like- Yeah, so-... 44 degrees up there at night and 80 in the daytime coming up there this weekend. Whoa. Right. Oh.
22:04
[laughs] Yeah, it's definitely- Yeah, so it's, it's b- it's like 80 to 75 during the day and 50-something typically at night. Right.
22:16
Um, and we're heading towards the time of the year when the nights start to get colder and stuff. But honestly, that's,
22:23
this is like the best from now, in my, my opinion, and I love winter too, but for most people, from now until, like, the middle of October is the, is the best time to, um, be up here and ride.
22:40
'Cause all the bugs are starting to, you know, die off. And so the black flies are not bad. You can still get some, but not bad even right now, and the mosquitoes are dying down. So
22:55
just a regular little bit of DEET and you're gonna be fine right now. So now's a great time to ride up here. Very good. Nice. All right, dude. Well, well- Yeah...
23:04
I'll be up there shortly and we'll, we'll connect up, and, uh, be good to see you. Great. Yeah. Awesome. All right. Enjoy the show. Good checking with you guys. All right, Dave. All right. Talk to you soon. Adios. Okay.
23:16
Bye. Interesting. I was wonder- wondering what the Chewbacca sounds were. Ah. Ah. It's basically... Me and the, uh... Yeah, right. I think it was just basically, I think he's standing outside and it- He was.
23:28
We just cars passing... it's right on, it's right on the highway on Highway 63, so it's- Like freeways. Speed. Yeah, it's, it's a, it's a two-laner and they, they whip right by there.
23:35
Supposed to be going 45 past the sawmill, not 75. But- Oh, it happens. It happens. Yeah, yeah. It's like in the- The old sawmill saloon, what a great place. They'll bend, they'll bend the law there one time, you know?
23:46
Oh, yeah. Couple or two, three times maybe. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, so, uh, sounds like a fun weekend up there, and that, uh, I, the Valhalla beach party thing is now...
23:57
It was, started out as being a race course, and now it's been modified to appeal to the bike packing set- Nice... crowd/riders. Well, I hope they're packing a lot of warm clothes if it's dropping to 50 at night.
24:13
Ah, I think, yeah. Get- You might need something to warm you up. [bell ringing] Oh, top of the hill. Hey, we're, we're almost at the end of the ride and there's some things we forgot.
24:21
Well, we forgot to ask Well, he was at the sawmill, so- Well, I figured there was-... he's probably drinking 420 or maybe a brandy Manhattan or something He does like his Manhattan. Or a whiskey Manhattan.
24:31
I know Eddie drinks something. What, uh, what, uh, the, what is it, 420- Old Fashioneds... Sweet- Sweetwater? Something up that way, yeah. It's a 420- Yeah... IPA. It's not bad. Yeah, it's not bad at all. It's not bad.
24:41
I've had it. And it's just fun to order. Right on. So- 'Cause, like, [laughs] I get it, man. Now that we're at the top- [laughs]... of the hill, we- we've- today, we've got the hams- We, it's-... which is- Yes...
24:51
a, a staple in the fridge, whether it's actually on the show regularly or not. Yeah. It's one of the under- You should always have a couple of hams in the house...
24:58
well, you have to, you have to acknowledge the underpinnings- Yeah... of that which keeps you afloat. So here's to you. Yeah. [sniffs] [laughs] I swear I wasn't gonna cry. Mr. Ham. Um, [laughs] here's to you, hams. Yeah.
25:15
Okay. Ah, 180, I'm telling you. 180. Yeah, it's Bizzarro World. Show 180. All right. Uh, I don't know. We got anything else? I, it's, you know, there's stuff, there's a, there's really not that much coming up.
25:28
[laughs] It's next weekend. Yeah, next weekend is Power Pack. All, all the shit, Coca Riot and- Well, this weekend-... Bagaiju and- This weekend is, uh, at Levis. There's the Summer Squatch thing or something.
25:39
Oh, right on. Summer Squatch? Yeah, yeah. S- yes, the Levis, the Levis Mounds Samsquanch, uh, thing. I just found out about it. It's basically a Gnome Fest by another name is what I'm gathering. Is that it? Sort of.
25:50
Yeah, it seems that way. I don't know who's actually in charge of that whole shindig. There were some naming rights- I have no idea... property problems.
25:56
Is it a, is it a Gomez production, or is it- I have a feeling it may be. Or an influence. Well, I, I do know this- He's kinda trying to take a little bit of a, a more incognito approach to it, I guess...
26:06
I th- I, I do know that anybody that goes up there that registers for it, a good chunk of the change is going to the Levis trails themselves. That's awesome. Nice. Awesome.
26:14
And, you know, those guys are a year-round thing up there. They- Those trails are pretty impressive... they groom in the winter. They- Mm-hmm... build in the summer- Awesome... and they ride often, so.
26:23
I did a trail build once. [laughs] Nice. Yeah. I mean, if I lived a little closer and I was a little more ambitious- Right, right... yeah, I would be, uh- Which I'm not... yeah, yeah, exactly, in a fucking vehicle, so.
26:36
Hmm. So- You have a vehicle, it just doesn't run. True. Thank you, yes. [laughs] 'Cause it's a Jeep. Yeah. Oh, yes. You know why? Well- 'Cause Jeeps suck. It's a Jeep thing. You wouldn't understand. I am, I know.
26:46
I don't understand at all. Or I would, I, or I would completely understand. 'Cause I put my key in my ignition and the car starts, oddly enough, knock on wood. Everyone's got their stories on every- Uh-huh...
26:55
kind of damn- Uh-huh... whatever. Yeah- They're way more so on Jeeps... I'm just, all I'm, all I'm doing is I, I'm just sifting. I heard the same. I'm sifting. I'm, I'm sifting. Like- I'm, I'm, I'm taking it all in.
27:04
I'm an omnivore. Yeah, I gotta tell you- Give me all your info. Give me all of it... your, your VWs, I don't know, John, John Schlick, Schlick Cycles John- I just have to keep waiting.
27:10
This is the worst fucking time- 25-... to buy a goddamn car- Right... or in the past two and a half fucking years, hasn't it? No dollars...
27:15
well, that's why he's spending 25 hundo on his, but apparently that- That's why I'm waiting as long as humanly possible... there is a recall or a, there's, no, it's, it's a water pump something something.
27:25
Oh, yeah- And-... plastic water pump... and a couple other things on it that there is a, apparently there's a lawsuit on it now, so maybe there's some renumeration coming. But his car has 107,000 on it.
27:34
That's not a lot to start. I got, I got 110 on mine. I'm still fine, but- Yeah, I just think- We should, we should bring up, no- Until you're not... 'cause he never listens to this, but smartass Sam
27:46
is just finally sold his TDI Toureg because- Oh. Yeah... he's- Toureg?...
27:52
because it's been in the shop six times in the last four months, including flying a mechanic in from Germany to try to find the coolant leak he had. Wow. Damn.
28:02
Um, we went out and rode, uh, and- Who is the descendant of Ver- We went up to Port-... Wernher von Braun? [laughs] We, we went up to Porton Road- He must know these things...
28:09
and on the way back, it died on the way back. Fortunately, we limped it back to my house, where it got towed, and he just sold it because he's gonna drop,
28:21
I hope he's listening, but I know he's not, but, like, $78,000 for a GMC. Best. Like, you are going from the frying pan to the fire, dude- [laughs]... buying- Yeah... a GMC that's that expensive.
28:34
You know, and the, I, I, sorry, the, it's gonna be a Suburban or some version of one. It's, yeah, it's a Tahoe. They're horrible. They're terrible. Whatever, man. Well, you know- Terrible...
28:43
if you're, if you're driving it by yourself or maybe with your sweetie- Right... and your dogs, it's okay. Right. But you try to put any more people in there- Doesn't work...
28:48
you're basically sitting in the back of a pickup truck- Right... with a roof over your head. It sucks. Yeah. They're worst vehicle ever made. So- All right... if anyone wants to donate a vehicle- Could have a-...
28:59
for Michael... We Fund Michael's Vehicle. [laughs].com.com Yeah, just send it, uh, this way. Yeah. Yeah. Is that for your 50th birthday or- Yeah, exactly. If it w- if there is one of those benevolent, uh, you know,
29:16
benefactors out there, whatever. All right. Well- I, I'll, I'll, no, I won't go that far. All right. I guess, uh- Yeah, you can pop me down again. [laughs] I'm on, [laughs] I'm on a weird stream of consciousness now.
29:26
Yeah, I guess next- [laughs]... next week will be 181. Maybe it will be a little more organized. The people of cars and shit. I don't know. 1-8-1. Cars and bikes and- Yeah. Well, it was all about bikes this morning.
29:36
So we'll get an update on- Damn it. Thank you... on smartass Sam on what he bought- I need a car so I can take-... 'cause he's dumb... my bike for a drive and then ride my bike and then ride, drive my bike home.
29:45
