Latest / The Vault: The Epstein Files / Virginia Roberts Blasts Alan Dershowitz Claims Of Exoneration
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome back to the Epstein Chronicles. Recently,
- 0:06we found out that Virginia Roberts and Alan Dershowitz had
- 0:10decided to mutually end their lawsuits against each other, and
- 0:15there were a lot of questions as to why that
- 0:18would occur, and especially considering a Virginia's statement. Virginia stated
- 0:23that she could have misremembered or misidentified Alan Dershowitz. Now
- 0:29I said in that first episode that the wording is important.
- 0:33I could have, I may have. There was no definitive statements.
- 0:37And I also said in that episode that my guess
- 0:40was that it was because she has been litigating this
- 0:43for so long that she and her family had just
- 0:46had enough. And now we're hearing from Virginia Roberts directly,
- 0:50who spoke with a Daily Beast and who was saying
- 0:53pretty much that. So let's get to this article real quick,
- 0:56and let's see what Kate Bricklett over at the Daily
- 1:00Beast has for us. Headlined Epstein survivor Dershowitz isn't exonerated
- 1:09no matter what he says. This article was authored by
- 1:13Kate Bricklett. Last week, Virginia Roberts a survivor of Jeffrey Epstein,
- 1:19settled her defamation suit against the financier Pedophiles, one time
- 1:23friend and lawyer Alan Dershowitz, whom she'd long accused of
- 1:27sexual assault. As part of the deal, Dershowitz dropped his
- 1:31countersuit against her and his countersuit against lawyer David Boyce,
- 1:36who had separately sued Dershowitz for defamation. Moments after the
- 1:41ink was dry, the media published statements from the parties.
- 1:44In her remarks, Roberts said she long believed that Epstein
- 1:48trafficked her to Dershowitz, but she may may have made
- 1:52a mistake in identifying the Harvard professor as one of
- 1:56her abusers. Dershowitz wasted no time in taking a victory lap,
- 2:01appearing on Newsmax, Greg Kelly Reports and Fox five's Good
- 2:05Day New York and writing an op ed in The
- 2:07New York Post under the headline exonerated, Why I thought
- 2:11to clear my name in Jeffrey Epstein allegation? And if
- 2:15you notice, I didn't read that right. I don't really
- 2:18buy the whole Oh, I'm exonerated deal here, Okay. What
- 2:23I do believe is that this was just too much,
- 2:26and the litigation had become too much, and at some
- 2:29point your back can only carry so much of a burden.
- 2:34When should Virginia get some normalcy in her life and
- 2:37when should she stop having to carry the burden? You
- 2:40know's it's a legitimate question, and it's easy for people
- 2:43to criticize if they're they're not the ones carrying that burden.
- 2:47But I can't imagine all these years of litigation and
- 2:51people suing me and me suing them, and all the
- 2:54other lawsuits that are going on. And remember, this wasn't
- 2:57gonna see Alan Dershowitz go to prison or anything like that.
- 3:00This was a defamation suit. People disapproved of me being
- 3:07Jeffrey Epstein's lawyer and Donald Trump's lawyer. So a decision
- 3:11was made by people to frame me, dur to who
- 3:14it's told Kelly, and they used a young woman, and
- 3:16the young woman now acknowledges that she may have made
- 3:19a mistake to frame you, bro. Were you or were
- 3:23you not at Jeffrey Epstein's house? Did you or did
- 3:25you not get that massage? You already said you did
- 3:28get the massage. Now of course you say you had
- 3:30your underpants on and nothing ill and untowards happened. So fine,
- 3:35that's what you say, But to act like your a
- 3:38million miles away from all of this is just absurd. Now,
- 3:42that might work with people who don't follow the case
- 3:45or who might not be hip to what's going on here,
- 3:47but anyone who's been following this case for even a
- 3:50minute understands that even if even if all of the
- 3:54stuff that Virginia said about you was wrong and she
- 3:58misidentified you, how do you explain being part of that
- 4:01disgusting sweetheart deal that Jeffrey Epstein got. How do you
- 4:06explain that? And I don't even want to hear about
- 4:09the Trump stuff. That's just easy, you know, low hanging
- 4:12fruit for him to throw out there to try and
- 4:14bolster his case. But there's legitimate questions surrounding other aspects
- 4:19of your relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. There's no doubt about that.
- 4:23My name has now been cleared, and I can go
- 4:25back to defending people and being controversial for good reasons,
- 4:29added Dershowitz, who for years has publicly denied Robert's claims
- 4:34and even accused her and her lawyers of perjury. Dershowitz
- 4:38walked back that accusation in his settlement statement, in which
- 4:41he said he has come to believe that at the
- 4:43time she accused me, she believed what she said. So
- 4:47you see Dershowitz here taking his little victory lap and
- 4:49talking about how he's been exonerated forgets the part about
- 4:53his concessions. And that's why I didn't even bother reading
- 4:57that op ed that he wrote ridiculousness, save the propaganda, homie.
- 5:04But in an exclusive statement to The Daily Beast, Roberts
- 5:07challenges Dershowitz suggestions that he's been exonerated of her sexual
- 5:11abuse allegations. And here's where the rubber meets the road.
- 5:14Right up until this point and this statement, we only
- 5:18had the statement to the court to go on about
- 5:22what Virginia was thinking or why she decided to go
- 5:26ahead and drop this lawsuit and have Alan Dershowitz in
- 5:30turn drop his, And now she's providing a little bit
- 5:33of context and a little bit of insight into that.
- 5:38I was shocked to read that Alan Dershowitz is claiming
- 5:41that our mutual dismissal of our lawsuits against each other
- 5:44somehow exonerated him. Robert said the litigation was very stressful,
- 5:49in damaging to my family and to my health. That's
- 5:52what I said in that first episode. And again, look,
- 5:54I don't have no direct line to Virginia, you know,
- 5:57we don't speak, you know, in DMS or in anything
- 6:00like that. But it just made sense to me considering
- 6:03how rough it is in the best of times when
- 6:07you're litigating something. I've seen friends of mine and family
- 6:10members of mine in a little different of a circumstance,
- 6:13obviously with it being criminal, but it really takes a
- 6:17toll on you. You lose weight, all of that stuff,
- 6:20and if you have health issues, it certainly can accelerate
- 6:23those health issues. So, like I thought in the beginning,
- 6:27that seems to be the likeliest reason for this. Now,
- 6:30what do you have to gain, right, what's the actual
- 6:33gain at the end of the lawsuit with Dershowitz, besides
- 6:37slamming the football and spiking at home and saying, look,
- 6:40you did this to me. Now, I'm sure that would
- 6:42be sweet, but you have to, you know, weigh the
- 6:45risk versus the reward, and the risk being here, more
- 6:49damage to the family, more damage to her health, and
- 6:52just more litigation that she feels like she doesn't need,
- 6:55at least according to this statement, we have endured year
- 7:00in which mister Dershowitz asserted my charges against him were
- 7:03a lie, made up out of a whole cloth, perjury,
- 7:06and part of a purported extortion plot. He has now
- 7:09admitted that there was no perjury, no extortion plot, and
- 7:13that rather than making up what I said, I honestly
- 7:17believe charges I made against him, and she is not
- 7:20wrong about any of that. You know, Dershowitz isn't gonna
- 7:24talk about his concessions. He's gonna try and frame it
- 7:27as a gigantic victory for him, and the detractors and
- 7:30naysayers they'll do the same thing. Whether or not mister
- 7:36dershowitz admissions undermine his previous denials of the charges made
- 7:40against him. Is for others to say, the settlement agreement
- 7:44limits what I can say, and I will abide by
- 7:46it unless and until I am released from it. However,
- 7:50those admissions are not consistent with exoneration, and I'm glad
- 7:55that she came out and set the record straight, because
- 7:58a lot of times, if you just keep your silence,
- 8:00you let narratives build and people run with those narratives.
- 8:04So a lot of times it's good to nip it
- 8:05in the bud and put your side out and then
- 8:08you can be done with it. Right. If I was Virginia,
- 8:10I wouldn't address it again. I said my piece, this
- 8:13is what's going on. I don't owe anybody anything else.
- 8:17I need to focus on my health and my family.
- 8:19That's what I would say. Stopping the false charges against
- 8:24me and securing mister Dershowitz's public acknowledgment of my good
- 8:29faith was important to me and my family. Roberts continued
- 8:32in her statement. However, I did not and would never
- 8:35exonerate mister Dershowitz in return. So there you have it
- 8:39in her own words, and really that's what the most
- 8:43important thing here is, right? What did she have to say?
- 8:49Reached my phone on Monday and asked about Robert's new
- 8:52comments that her statement fails to exonerate them. Dershowitz would
- 8:56only repeat his prior claims that Robert's accusations of it
- 9:00abuse were untrue. I challenge her to repeater allegation. Dershowitz
- 9:04told The Daily Beast, it's a total, complete, categorical lie.
- 9:08I never met her, and I proved it conclusively. Ask
- 9:11her to release all the evidence that came out in discovery,
- 9:14and you will see a total, incomplete exoneration. Dershowitz went
- 9:18on to say, I have waived every single right of privacy.
- 9:21I have waived every right of privacy to every tape, recording,
- 9:25every video, recording, every photograph. I asked her to do
- 9:29the same. A thirty nine year old mother of three, Roberts,
- 9:33first accused Dershowitz of sexual abuse. In December of twenty fourteen,
- 9:38Affi David filed in a federal lawsuit from two other
- 9:41survivors who sued the government over Epstein's lenient non prosecution
- 9:46agreement in Florida. In the court filing, Roberts alleged that
- 9:51Epstein and his ex girlfriend co conspirator General all Around
- 9:54Scuzbag fellow child abuser and by peterle serpent accomplice Gleanne Maxwell,
- 9:59forced forced her to become their teenage sex slave and
- 10:03sent her to powerful men to be sexually abused, including Dershowitz,
- 10:08French modeling agent Jean Luke Brunel, who killed himself in
- 10:11a Paris jail while awaiting child for rape, and Britain's
- 10:14Prince Andrew, who settled a lawsuit with Roberts earlier this
- 10:18year for millions of dollars. Now, I will say this
- 10:22for Dershowitz, at least he went through the steps here
- 10:24and took it through the court and came to this agreement.
- 10:28Now do I think that's a good idea for him?
- 10:30You know, Look, I wasn't in there. I don't know
- 10:32all of the evidence. But for him to run around
- 10:35and acts like he's been exonerated, that is quite the stretch.
- 10:42Robert's lawsuit against Dershowitz was filed in April of twenty nineteen,
- 10:47months before Epstein's arrest for trafficking miners in New York,
- 10:50and stems from his comments about her in the wake
- 10:52of The Miami Herald's investigative series on Epstein's plea deal.
- 10:57Later that year, Boys, one of Robert's lawyers who had
- 11:00represented her in other matters, filed a defamation suit against
- 11:04Dershowitz for accusing his firm of extortion and suborning perjury
- 11:10in connection to Robert's claims. For his part, Dershowitz filed
- 11:14a countersuit against Boys for defamation and intentional infliction of
- 11:18emotional distress. So he had two of the most powerful
- 11:21lawyers in the country dueling it out over these claims
- 11:25of misconduct, basically back and forth. Before last week's settlement,
- 11:31Boys had been conducting an ongoing deposition of Dershowitz, who
- 11:35testified that his relationship with Epstein changed completely after Epstein's
- 11:39two thousand and eight jail stint for soliciting minors. After
- 11:43he served his time, my relationship with him changed completely.
- 11:46It was no longer academic or social. But I did
- 11:49meet with him on a number of occasions, largely around
- 11:52the legal issues that were still remaining. And that's the
- 11:56likely excuse, right, and it's one that will give him
- 11:59tenable ground to say stands upon. Unfortunately, as a lawyer,
- 12:02he can say I was meeting with him for his
- 12:04legal issues, even if they weren't. Dershowitz testified, according to
- 12:11a transcript reviewed by The Daily Beast. As The New
- 12:14York Times reported, Dershowitz abruptly stopped the questioning in late
- 12:17September because of concerns about his health. I mean, come on,
- 12:22and then all of a sudden, they have the settlement here.
- 12:24So look, when you have a settlement, it's not just take.
- 12:27There's given take, And there was never any exoneration for
- 12:32Alan Dershowitz. In the comments that we have read, anyway,
- 12:39Dershowitz testified that he also had discussions with Epstein about
- 12:43the Middle East after his Florida conviction. He was friendly
- 12:46with a number of prominent Israelis and so we had
- 12:49conversations about the Middle East and the matters, legal matters. Oh,
- 12:53I'm sure he was. We know he was great friends
- 12:55with Edhud Barack, and I'm sure there's a slew of
- 12:58a bunch of other people that he was working with.
- 13:00He funded that company Carbine. Of his relationship with Epstein,
- 13:07Dershowitz added that, knowing that he was guilty of these crimes,
- 13:10that he had pleaded guilty of these crimes, my relationship
- 13:13with him was completely different than it was before I
- 13:16learned about the accusations. Emails cited in the deposition transcripts, however,
- 13:21seemed to paint a picture of a particularly chummy relationship
- 13:25between Epstein and Dershowitz even after the creepy money manager
- 13:29pedophile incarceration. Of course, they were still palin around. Come on,
- 13:33common sense says anyway, now dershel again, he'll use the excuse. Look,
- 13:38I was a lawyer. I was just doing my job.
- 13:40He had legal issues and I had to deal with them.
- 13:43That's what he'll say. In November twenty twelve, the deposition
- 13:49testimony reveals Epstein wrote Dershowitz, I love that I get
- 13:53a Christmas card and present from former assistant US attorney
- 13:57Matt Menchel, the guy that put me in jail. Dershowitz replied, appropriate,
- 14:02Christmas celebrates the birth of another innocent Jewish guy who
- 14:06was crucified. So we're going to compare Jeffrey Epstein to
- 14:10Jesus Christ? Is that what you're telling me here, mister
- 14:12Dershowitz and Matt Menchell sending this dude Christmas presents and shit. Bro. Yeah,
- 14:18the prosecution wasn't in on it. The prosecution didn't work
- 14:22with Epstein's lawyers to make sure he gets this sweetheart deal.
- 14:24Give me a fucking break already. Obviously, my answer was hyperbole,
- 14:30and it was paraphrasing Epstein's own stated views that he
- 14:33himself received in an inappropriately harsh sentence. Dershowitz, you said
- 14:37the same thing, Dershowitz testified. When asked about the message,
- 14:41he added that it bears not at all on the
- 14:44nature of the relationship between Epstein and myself during this
- 14:48period of time. And look, let's not get ahead of ourselves.
- 14:52This is a silver tongued man. This is a man
- 14:54who knows how to deal with the deposition, has been
- 14:56involved in many, many depositions throughout his life, and somebody
- 15:00who knows how to navigate these questions. In May twenty thirteen,
- 15:07Epstein wrote to Dershowitz, where are you this summer? Dershowitz
- 15:12replied that he'd be on Martha's vineyard before adding where
- 15:15are you? I called you a couple of times when
- 15:17I was in NYC. Miss you. Yeah, that's the relationship
- 15:20of a client and a lawyer. A lot of these
- 15:23lawyers who do their job and defend scumbags, they don't
- 15:27want anything to do with the scumbags. Afterwards, they go
- 15:30on and live their life. Look, this is my job,
- 15:33and I respect those lawyers. You can be a lawyer
- 15:36and defend scumbag people and still be an honorable person.
- 15:39You have a job to do. I've said this a
- 15:41million times. It doesn't matter how much of a degenerate
- 15:44piece of garbage you are. In this country, everybody's entitled
- 15:47to legal defense, and if you can afford top notch
- 15:50legal defense. Hey great, but that doesn't mean the lawyer
- 15:54has to be your buddy. Afterwards. Dershowitz was also questioned
- 16:01about a twenty fourteen email with a friend Tom Ash,
- 16:05who wanted to visit Epstein's New Mexico land with his
- 16:08son to collect petroglyphs. Jeffrey Epstein said, of course. Dershowitz
- 16:12email to friend reads to which the power responds, how
- 16:15do we do it? Do we just show up there?
- 16:17Or do we need to call someone? Don't know? Try calling.
- 16:20If you can't reach anyone, I will call Jaye. So
- 16:24is this what you do with an acquaintance or a friend?
- 16:26Let me ask you put yourself in these shoes. Would
- 16:29you just be calling up an acquaintance and saying to him, hey,
- 16:31can my friends come on your land and look for petroglyphs?
- 16:34Or would that be a friend and that then that
- 16:37a request you would make from a friend. I know
- 16:39I wouldn't just ask some random or acquaintance that thanks.
- 16:46Maybe a young girl will answer, the friend wrote. When
- 16:49asked about that email, Dershowitz testify it's a joke. He
- 16:52later clarified, so obviously Ash was trying to make a
- 16:55bad joke, and it was a silly joke. He shouldn't
- 16:58have said it, but he said it. He doesn't mean
- 17:00it seriously. Oh no, not at all. It's just a
- 17:03big joke. Everything's a big joke, so garbage man. In
- 17:09Robert's exclusive statements to The Daily Beast, she also refers
- 17:13to the litigation between Boys and Dershowitz, who released their
- 17:16own statements as part of the settlement. Both Robert's and
- 17:19Boy's lawsuits courch Record show were settled without costs or
- 17:24monetary award. I also note that my statement needs to
- 17:28be considered in the context of the statement issued by
- 17:31mister Dershowitz and David Boys. Roberts continued in her statement,
- 17:35mister Boyce sued mister Dershowitz for charging mister Boys with
- 17:39so burning perjury and extortion. Mister Dershowitz flatly retracted those charges,
- 17:45and mister Boys dismissed his lawsuit. Mister Dershowitz sued mister
- 17:49Boys for charging mister Dershowitz with participating in Epstein's sex
- 17:53trafficking and other misconduct. Roberts continued, mister Boys did not
- 17:58retract any of those charges. By mister Dershowitz nevertheless dismissed
- 18:02his claims against mister Boyce. That too hardly seems like exoneration.
- 18:07And look, she's not wrong about that. I didn't even
- 18:09really pick up on that during the initial release, to
- 18:12be honest with you, but it's she's right. I have
- 18:17long believed mister Dershowitz participated in my sex trafficking. I
- 18:21have not and would not retract what I have said. However,
- 18:25under all the circumstances, I was prepared to acknowledge the
- 18:28possibility that I may have made a mistake in identifying
- 18:32mister Dershowitz as part of a resolution of all pending litigation.
- 18:37And right there is it signals to me the reasoning
- 18:40behind it. Right Virginia just didn't want to deal with
- 18:42it anymore, folks, That's what it looks like. And honestly,
- 18:45who can blame her? I was and am prepared to
- 18:49leave to the judgment of the public end of history,
- 18:52whether to accept that my belief, which mister Dershowitz acknowledges,
- 18:56was honest, or to accept mister dershowitz assertion that I
- 18:59was mistaken. Roberts concluded for over a decade Roberts was
- 19:04among Epstein's most high profile survivors, one who gave international
- 19:09media interviews about surviving Epstein's sex ring and about her
- 19:13accusations against Prince Andrew, and created a nonprofit for sex
- 19:17trafficking victims called Speak Out, Act Reclaim or SOAR. Her
- 19:23civil litigation against Maxwell, settled before trial, excavated much of
- 19:27what the public knows about Epstein's trafficking scheme and the
- 19:31bipedal's role in his world. So it was Virginia who
- 19:35blew the doors off of all of this, really, and
- 19:38her depositions and all of the case files that we see. However,
- 19:42remember there are countless other women out there who never
- 19:46came forward who were abused by these people. And while
- 19:52Roberts wasn't called as the witness at Maxwell's criminal trial,
- 19:55her name permeated the testimony. Manhattan Federal Judge Alison Nathan,
- 20:00at Maxwell's sentencing in June, ruled that Roberts was a
- 20:03victim in the conspiracy and allowed her lawyer to read
- 20:05aloud a victim impact statement from her court. Karen Battar,
- 20:10a partner at Say Barth shaw LLP, who represented boys
- 20:15in Dershowitz's countersuit pushed back on Dershowitz's claims that Robert's
- 20:19remarks have exonerated him. All that she said is I
- 20:22may be wrong. She never said she was wrong. She
- 20:25said she believes and continues to believe what she says.
- 20:28For him to twist that and claim he was exonerated
- 20:31is incorrect and it really couldn't be further from the truth,
- 20:35Batar said. Batar also said Dershowitz's media appearances likely violated
- 20:40the terms of the settlement agreement. Yo, okay, well maybe
- 20:44it did. Now, I wonder what would the penalties for
- 20:47something like that even be. The agreement was that under
- 20:52these circumstances, the parties would be limited to the contents
- 20:56of the statement that had been mutually agreed upon. But
- 20:59he Dershowitz immediately went well beyond the parameters of that statement,
- 21:04sought out the press, and violated the terms and intent
- 21:07of the agreement. For one to immediately disregard what they
- 21:11just agreed to is certainly atypical, but unfortunately, based on
- 21:15how Dershowitz conducted himself in our case, not surprising. And
- 21:20I can only imagine what was going on behind the scenes, right,
- 21:23you know, Dershowitz. This dude's pressing and pushing and straight
- 21:26up acting a fool. Imron and Zari, a lawyer for Dershowitz,
- 21:32told The Daily Beast that his client's recent media comments
- 21:36are consistent with the contents of the agreed statement. He has,
- 21:40in essence, repeated his denial as to Miss Robert's allegation
- 21:43of sexual abuse, an allegation that he has consistently denied
- 21:48as contained in the statement, while reiterating Miss Robert's statement
- 21:52that she may have made a mistake in identifying him
- 21:55as contained in the statement, and that there was no
- 21:58payment of any money by anyone or anything else as
- 22:01contained in the statement. As such, we disagree with the
- 22:05claim that mister Dershowitz is in violation of an agreement.
- 22:09And it's gonna be this kind of thing back and forth,
- 22:12a lot of legal ease. This is how Dershowitz rolls.
- 22:15He wants to make it as painful and as miserable
- 22:17for people as possible. And when you're a high profile
- 22:21lawyer and you can go through a lot of this
- 22:23stuff yourself, and it's a lot easier to litigate it,
- 22:26isn't it. It's also a lot less cost restrictive because
- 22:30you know the ins and outs and all the rest
- 22:31of the nonsense that comes along with being one of
- 22:34these high profile lawyers. But when this first broke and
- 22:38we were first talking about it, I figured that this
- 22:40was what it was, That Virginia Roberts had had enough
- 22:44and she wants to go on and live a normal
- 22:46life for the semblance of a normal life with her
- 22:50family and her loved ones. So there you have it, folks,
- 22:53Virginia's response to Alan Dershowitz taking a victory lap. And
- 22:57I figured it wouldn't be long before we saw this,
- 23:00so as new information pops up, like usual, we will
- 23:03add it to the catalog. All right, folks, it's gonna
- 23:06do it for this one. If you'd like to contact me,
