Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Podcasted twenty five Whistocking fun Row and they whist so yet,
- 0:11Speaker 1: but what didn't you expect? It's a podcast called twenty
- 0:15Speaker 1: five Whistles. It's the halftime show presented by Draft Kings
- 0:21Speaker 1: sports Book, an official sports betting partner of the NFL.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Download the Draft Kings app and use the code Bobby
- 0:26Speaker 1: sports to get in on the action. We'll talk about
- 0:29Speaker 1: the new rankings, college football, maybe selling the Commanders, the
- 0:34Speaker 1: NFL trade deadline, and Adam brought us a coach Adam
- 0:38Speaker 1: and it's a really good interview. It was like super compelling.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I like asking coaches about Madden, going like, I'm an idiot,
- 0:45Speaker 1: I play Madden. I can probably an offensive coordinator. It's
- 0:47Speaker 1: a great topic and it's fun to see how they respond.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Will they humor me or they just think I'm a
- 0:51Speaker 1: complete moron? And he humored me, you know what I like.
- 0:55Speaker 1: So you guys hang out for that coming up a
- 0:57Speaker 1: little bit, but it actually puts you back to even now.
- 0:59Speaker 1: I'm had to be back even part which by the way,
- 1:01Speaker 1: we're put trying to get these coaches on and who
- 1:06Speaker 1: had Harson? Who got fired? I had Harson? Yeah, you
- 1:09Speaker 1: should have waited. I want to get him now, Well
- 1:13Speaker 1: it's easier, harder to get an he's fired, I still
- 1:15Speaker 1: have him. Yeah, I was just trying to get some
- 1:17Speaker 1: extra points by getting the organ guy. But I still
- 1:19Speaker 1: have Arson. So let me reach out, let me reach
- 1:21Speaker 1: back out. But see, I don't know. I have the
- 1:23Speaker 1: university contacts, so they're well, they're they're not They're not
- 1:27Speaker 1: gonna help me with that. So I gotta find someone.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Can I just d M him? Maybe I just dmy
- 1:31Speaker 1: I would I'm doing that today, Yeah, I would, And
- 1:33Speaker 1: I would give it a few days a week and
- 1:37Speaker 1: if nothing then move on. But it might be easier
- 1:39Speaker 1: to get him now, it also could be harder, but
- 1:42Speaker 1: you don't have any ways, so you're not lost. I
- 1:44Speaker 1: wonder what coaches do when they get fired, Like like
- 1:46Speaker 1: when I the one time I got fired from a
- 1:48Speaker 1: job has laid off. I went to the beach like
- 1:52Speaker 1: for two days, and it was great. I just had
- 1:54Speaker 1: to think of things. What am I gonna do with
- 1:55Speaker 1: the rest of my life kind of thing? But well,
- 1:57Speaker 1: what did coaches do? Do they like take some time
- 1:59Speaker 1: off or start looking for work. Well, at first they
- 2:01Speaker 1: do take time off because they're paid. I think anyone
- 2:04Speaker 1: if they can, should take time off whenever something like
- 2:06Speaker 1: that happens. But I think there's a little bit of embarrassment.
- 2:09Speaker 1: I would be embarrassed. But with coaching, it's such a
- 2:12Speaker 1: quick turnarounds, like you know you're not you're not a
- 2:14Speaker 1: winning season, you can be cut in six games. It's
- 2:16Speaker 1: I think it still would be embarrassing for sure. I
- 2:18Speaker 1: think if you're fired and he again, he didn't get
- 2:21Speaker 1: two seasons and there was turmoil immediately and in the
- 2:25Speaker 1: off season, it just I don't know who and what
- 2:27Speaker 1: was unhealthy about that situation because you hear both sides
- 2:30Speaker 1: and two different sides, they two different things. So I
- 2:32Speaker 1: don't know. I'll check in there that I don't know, um,
- 2:35Speaker 1: but I think it's probably embarrassing that you got this job,
- 2:37Speaker 1: you moved here, take this job to turn the program around.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You didn't do it, and so you're probably embarrassed, should
- 2:41Speaker 1: probably I mean not happy with yourself because you look
- 2:44Speaker 1: back and there are some decisions that you would have
- 2:46Speaker 1: made differently, and a lot of times you get to
- 2:48Speaker 1: see those decisions and do them definitely while you're doing it,
- 2:50Speaker 1: because you're there long enough to make those changes. And
- 2:52Speaker 1: the ones who can't make changes to get fired anyway.
- 2:54Speaker 1: But you have a lot of money. And did you
- 2:57Speaker 1: buy a house? Do you need to sell it right away?
- 2:59Speaker 1: Do you get out of dodged? You stay in town
- 3:00Speaker 1: for a little bit? Well, great question. For example, who
- 3:04Speaker 1: we had on earlier in the show and he coached
- 3:05Speaker 1: at Florida, Dan Mullin. He's still in Gainesville and he
- 3:09Speaker 1: coached at Florida. He says his house he loves. They
- 3:11Speaker 1: got fired. He's like, I'm just gonna stay here if
- 3:13Speaker 1: you like. I think if you like it, you stay.
- 3:15Speaker 1: And he had lived there before, so I think he
- 3:18Speaker 1: likes Gainville. It just stays there. And then are you embarrassed?
- 3:20Speaker 1: Like walk around in town? Fired coach would go to
- 3:22Speaker 1: the grocery store like and how it switches, you know,
- 3:27Speaker 1: from like you're the grocer store when you're winning, you're
- 3:30Speaker 1: fired on the coach. Well, it's very much like they
- 3:33Speaker 1: say in in Batman, right, like if you're a hero
- 3:36Speaker 1: long enough, eventually you'll be a villain. That's paraphrase a
- 3:39Speaker 1: bit like, yeah, you want to be a hero, but
- 3:41Speaker 1: if you're a hero for long enough, eventually that'll turn
- 3:43Speaker 1: on you and you'll be the villain. So if you
- 3:45Speaker 1: live long enough, and that's like coaches for the most part,
- 3:47Speaker 1: all coaches get fired for the most part. Yeah, unless
- 3:51Speaker 1: you get to be Bobby Bowden. But even he was
- 3:54Speaker 1: kind of pushed out at the end, right, he was,
- 3:56Speaker 1: but not he was ceremoniously. It was a big deal. Hey,
- 4:00Speaker 1: bountons out, he's our guy. We love them. That didn't
- 4:03Speaker 1: happen with Parson Saban's not getting fired, right, It's very
- 4:07Speaker 1: rare that someone doesn't get fired. So eventually, if you
- 4:10Speaker 1: live long enough, you die, They kill you eventually. But
- 4:14Speaker 1: I would be I would be personally embarrassed. But he
- 4:17Speaker 1: has a bunch of money. He doesn't have to worry
- 4:18Speaker 1: about paying the bills and all that. So um, but yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 1: it was a good conversation with the coach. Let's stay
- 4:24Speaker 1: college for a second. On the halftime show here, they
- 4:26Speaker 1: put out the first rankings as far as and they
- 4:29Speaker 1: put out the top six and then they put out
- 4:31Speaker 1: all the rest, which kind of comes out as the
- 4:32Speaker 1: rest of the splat. But the top six is really
- 4:34Speaker 1: trying to get into the top four, and the top
- 4:36Speaker 1: four is the playoff, which is pretty cool. But I
- 4:37Speaker 1: can't wait from to go to twelve twelve. It makes
- 4:41Speaker 1: everything more exciting. The NFL doesn't get lamer because more
- 4:45Speaker 1: teams get in. It's more exciting because then the guy
- 4:48Speaker 1: that just snuck in might have a chance to win
- 4:49Speaker 1: the old thing, and everyone's like, well, then the games
- 4:51Speaker 1: won't matter as much anymore. Okay, look at the NFL.
- 4:55Speaker 1: The NFL doesn't suck Week sixteen. It's actually awesome. Yeah,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and some teams get in that probably wouldn't had they
- 5:05Speaker 1: not even expand. They expanded it last year. I'm up
- 5:07Speaker 1: forma for basebox man, I'm up for all the expansion.
- 5:09Speaker 1: I love it, can't get enough of it, can't wait
- 5:11Speaker 1: for those twelve Let's do sixty four one. Yeah, probably
- 5:17Speaker 1: you can't play that many games that fast, but basketball
- 5:18Speaker 1: you can get a couple in a weekend. The rankings
- 5:21Speaker 1: are and we'll go top six here Tennessee at one,
- 5:23Speaker 1: Ohio State to Georgia three, Clemson four, Michigan five, Alabama six.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Um Tennessee at one. Not a surprise, not not a shot.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Wasn't shocked, I guess I was slightly surprised, only because
- 5:37Speaker 1: the pedigree of Ohio State in Georgia I thought itself
- 5:41Speaker 1: would put them on top. And I'm glad it didn't.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I think Tennessee probably deserves to be number one, but
- 5:46Speaker 1: I was a little surprised to see them there with
- 5:48Speaker 1: Ohio State in Georgia so close even Clemson. But Clemson
- 5:51Speaker 1: has got a little sour on it. It's let you know,
- 5:54Speaker 1: they just do they're benching their quarterback that It's crazy.
- 5:57Speaker 1: You got a top four team and you have in
- 6:02Speaker 1: the middle of a quarterback controversy. They're barely beating teams too.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I mean, it's likely they're running wild if it wasn't
- 6:08Speaker 1: for the curse. So when you look at that top six, Tennessee,
- 6:14Speaker 1: Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, Michigan, Alabama, who do you put
- 6:16Speaker 1: your money on to not even being the conversation in
- 6:20Speaker 1: a few weeks kick off? Is it because they're playing
- 6:24Speaker 1: Ohio State? And I think they should. I mean, you
- 6:28Speaker 1: could argue, for you the one maybe be ahead of Clemson,
- 6:31Speaker 1: but Michigan hasn't really played anybody out of outside of conference.
- 6:34Speaker 1: But I think Michigan once they play a house state,
- 6:36Speaker 1: especially if they get beat down in how State, they're gone.
- 6:39Speaker 1: And even if they lose, I mean, they have to
- 6:40Speaker 1: beat Ohuse State just to State in the conversation, if
- 6:43Speaker 1: Ohio State loses to Michigan, are they out of it?
- 6:49Speaker 1: I think so, depending on what the other teams do. Yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 1: because their schedule hasn't been anything great either. They're not
- 6:55Speaker 1: beating anybody, you know, and they almost lost a Penn State.
- 6:57Speaker 1: So yeah, if they lose one, either of those teams
- 7:00Speaker 1: lose one game, it's gonna be tough because, Okay, but
- 7:04Speaker 1: you have Tennessee and Georgia. They want of them is
- 7:07Speaker 1: gonna lose, but they are on the SEC and whomever
- 7:10Speaker 1: lose is probably isn't gonna play the SEC championship game.
- 7:12Speaker 1: They're just gonna have one loss and they're gonna be
- 7:14Speaker 1: able to sit back and not even risk having a
- 7:15Speaker 1: second loss. Yeah, they're the SEC is sitting pretty right now.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Especially if Ohio State in Michigan lose, they could have
- 7:21Speaker 1: three teams in there. Yeah, but I'll have to say
- 7:23Speaker 1: in Michigan both aren't gonna lose, at least I don't
- 7:25Speaker 1: say they could. What do I know they both they
- 7:28Speaker 1: could Um Adam, who's not going to be there? Of
- 7:30Speaker 1: those six, I gotta say, I gotta say Michigan to
- 7:33Speaker 1: Michigan just does not have a passing game and they're
- 7:36Speaker 1: running the ball well, but they still haven't run it
- 7:38Speaker 1: well against the defense that scares anybody. So they haven't
- 7:41Speaker 1: done anything that shows me they can compete against Tennessee,
- 7:43Speaker 1: Ohio State, UH, Georgia or Alabama for that matter. So
- 7:46Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know why you. I don't
- 7:48Speaker 1: know why you could see them making the playoff? Eddie,
- 7:51Speaker 1: who wins it all? Oh? Who wins it all? I'm
- 7:54Speaker 1: gonna say Alabama sneaks back in and then wins it all.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I mean, I think they're clearly the better team if
- 7:58Speaker 1: they just get a shot their trouble. Yes, I agree,
- 8:01Speaker 1: they're gonna get a shot because they're gonna play in
- 8:03Speaker 1: the SEC Championship game. And everyone loves to just dismiss
- 8:06Speaker 1: them because they lost one game. Like, guys, they are
- 8:09Speaker 1: so good. Yes, they were close games, but they had
- 8:11Speaker 1: the tough I think they've had the toughest schedule out
- 8:13Speaker 1: of everyone. They also lost to the number one team
- 8:15Speaker 1: right there. One losses to the number one team. Um,
- 8:18Speaker 1: I think if I'm pulling one of the teams out,
- 8:20Speaker 1: it's Clemson. If you're looking at the games and who's
- 8:23Speaker 1: gonna lose and win okay, but I mean Clemson just
- 8:25Speaker 1: doesn't to me eyeball tests look as good as the
- 8:28Speaker 1: other teams or who they've played or how they beat them. Um,
- 8:31Speaker 1: Clemson to me is kind of the biggest fraud there.
- 8:33Speaker 1: I think TCUs should be above Clemson, honestly. I mean
- 8:38Speaker 1: there's an argument of tc to be up there. Oh
- 8:40Speaker 1: how I say, Michigan's gonna play itself out. I'm not
- 8:42Speaker 1: too angry about those two because that one's gonna play
- 8:44Speaker 1: itself out. The SEC situation is is interesting because again
- 8:47Speaker 1: you have Tennessee and Georgia playing. I don't think losing
- 8:51Speaker 1: that game by nine points or less affects much. I
- 8:57Speaker 1: think that team who loses you almost got a free pass.
- 9:01Speaker 1: As long as you win your other conference games to
- 9:03Speaker 1: get into the to get in where the other teams
- 9:06Speaker 1: gotta go play in the c Championship. You want to
- 9:07Speaker 1: win it, obviously, Um, but it's interesting. I think TCU
- 9:11Speaker 1: or again sitting at eight, I wouldn't have been surprised
- 9:13Speaker 1: if they were to put organ at of five or
- 9:15Speaker 1: six right now. I don't think they should. I don't know.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I'm starting to be I'm getting being got to being
- 9:21Speaker 1: tricked I'm starting to fall for Oregan again. I'm starting
- 9:23Speaker 1: to fall back in love. I can't, I don't want to.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I shouldn't. Are you believing in bo? Everything that I've
- 9:30Speaker 1: ever seen from the years at Auburn, from the I
- 9:37Speaker 1: they're they're the best team. I think they're better than USC.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I think if there's going to in there and we'll
- 9:44Speaker 1: find out. But I think Oregon and TCU are probably
- 9:48Speaker 1: a spot or two too low. I think they put
- 9:51Speaker 1: Michigan and Ohio State in there knowing that one of
- 9:53Speaker 1: them will fall and we'll see what happens. You know, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama,
- 10:00Speaker 1: don't lose again, Ohio State, TCU or Oregon or USC.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I mean that's a pretty solid six. But Clemson doesn't
- 10:09Speaker 1: really play. Clemson doesn't play much. No, they really don't.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It's South Carolina in a conference championship game and not
- 10:16Speaker 1: a sucks the Louisville. They'll play anybody, right, they play names,
- 10:21Speaker 1: but substance um. When I look down the list and
- 10:25Speaker 1: I see L s U attend, that was a big
- 10:28Speaker 1: choker to me, you know, good for them, good for them.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I look at it as two ways. One it's I
- 10:34Speaker 1: mean L s U ten will miss eleven you're talking about,
- 10:37Speaker 1: and I'm obviously it, see guy, because Arkansas is there,
- 10:39Speaker 1: we have to play number ten a number eleven coming
- 10:41Speaker 1: up now Arkansas, and so we're gonna beat both those schools.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Yeah it's over, we've already won, so mark it down.
- 10:47Speaker 1: But L s U picked last basically in the West
- 10:50Speaker 1: and sitting at number ten right now. You talk about
- 10:52Speaker 1: a from that Florida State game L s U because
- 10:56Speaker 1: they didn't they lose that by the few, yes, and
- 11:01Speaker 1: everybody was like terrible coaching. Hey look they're nuts. Stay yeah,
- 11:06Speaker 1: I mean that's you're talking about their ten now and
- 11:10Speaker 1: they blew out the team right behind them. And but
- 11:15Speaker 1: also big game this weekend LS you in Alabama? That
- 11:19Speaker 1: is this weekend, right, Yeah, there's two huge games this
- 11:22Speaker 1: weekend in the SEC. There's Georgia and Tennessee in Arkansas.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Liberty kidding but less you. Yeah that is a good guy.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I like that game. Liberties actually top twenty five and
- 11:33Speaker 1: like the A p Yeah yeah, so listen n c
- 11:37Speaker 1: l A rankings came out. I think there's a lot
- 11:39Speaker 1: of Texas into twenty four. Yeah, Texas back five and three.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Really it's Texas Texas. Right, Yeah, they get the benefits
- 11:51Speaker 1: pedigree programs. If it's close, even if they're slightly under,
- 11:55Speaker 1: they're going to get the nod. Gross, That's okay. Whatever.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Everybody's goal is to be a pet your program. Everybody's hater.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I'm hater, but the goal is to be that, you know.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I say, if there's a program or a fan base
- 12:06Speaker 1: I hate, I want to be hated because that means
- 12:09Speaker 1: people are annoyed by me winning. So it's just I'm jealous.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I'm jealous of a team like Texas with three losses
- 12:15Speaker 1: can get in at twenty four. But good for them.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Can we another shocker here? Uh? Speaking of Arkansas, Brett Billum,
- 12:22Speaker 1: I got the Illinois fighting at Lina in the top.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Who did they just beat last week? You know they
- 12:30Speaker 1: had a big win. A message BLM and was like, hey,
- 12:32Speaker 1: that's awesome. I said you should come on the show,
- 12:34Speaker 1: and he had me back It was like, hey, thanks man.
- 12:36Speaker 1: He wrote, whoo pick Sue is something like a line
- 12:38Speaker 1: I family. But then he didn't say it come on
- 12:40Speaker 1: the show. You never answered the question. No he didn't,
- 12:41Speaker 1: and I felt weird about following up again. I like
- 12:44Speaker 1: that asked him that yeah, yeah, yeah, we we but
- 12:48Speaker 1: Alabama to play I'll as you and all Miss. So
- 12:50Speaker 1: Alabama's got uh ten and eleven as of right now,
- 12:53Speaker 1: they win those two games, I don't know how you
- 12:54Speaker 1: keep him out if they win the stch even as
- 12:58Speaker 1: a two loss, if starts to get close and you're
- 13:00Speaker 1: playing with a bunch of one losses in your Alabama
- 13:03Speaker 1: and you beat l s U, you'd be all Miss,
- 13:06Speaker 1: you'd beat other teams. That's tough. It's just tough both
- 13:09Speaker 1: on the road packed tas two is out the top ten?
- 13:12Speaker 1: Which do they have two and stut the top ten
- 13:14Speaker 1: because they don't play a bunch of great schools? Or
- 13:18Speaker 1: are they good? That's question. I think USC is good
- 13:23Speaker 1: us he's a bigger pose of than Oregon. Their offense
- 13:25Speaker 1: is good. Their offense is good, and you're looking at
- 13:27Speaker 1: the first year Lincoln, right, but we're talking about this season. No,
- 13:29Speaker 1: I get it, I get it. But I think that's
- 13:31Speaker 1: what's keeping them low because I think if it was
- 13:33Speaker 1: any other year that was their one loss. Yeah there
- 13:37Speaker 1: one loss, I mean there is I guess there is
- 13:41Speaker 1: like value to the argument that they don't play when
- 13:43Speaker 1: they play each other, which is not really good. That's
- 13:45Speaker 1: what Clemson does, you know, right, So I don't know.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I mean I just when I when I see USC,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I like them. I think it's everyone didn't they I don't.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I didn't think they're gonna be good this year, but
- 13:54Speaker 1: they ended up being pretty good. They be pretty good.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Cayleb Williams Yeah, Jordan Aison, Yeah, come up from pit.
- 14:00Speaker 1: It their defense, sucker. What am I missing something? Yes? Alright,
- 14:03Speaker 1: and it's half the battle, g I Joe. Yeah, it's
- 14:07Speaker 1: fun though, right, Like, it's fun. It's I like it
- 14:09Speaker 1: when they were like, because this is these are the
- 14:11Speaker 1: rankings that matter. These are the ones that are actually
- 14:13Speaker 1: gonna affect things. I think Oklahoma State at eighteens pretty cool. Um,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I think Kansas State the thirteen is pretty cool. I
- 14:19Speaker 1: like the TCU is right there in the mix. And
- 14:22Speaker 1: you know, if TCU wins the conference, you can't you
- 14:25Speaker 1: can't keep them out. If they don't lose the game,
- 14:28Speaker 1: you can't keep them out. So that would be fun.
- 14:31Speaker 1: And and those all those big twelve schools that are
- 14:35Speaker 1: good play such different types of styles. Kansas State and
- 14:39Speaker 1: tc are just gonna run. We're gonna run. They gonna run,
- 14:41Speaker 1: they're run the round there and Oklahoma State and Baylor
- 14:47Speaker 1: and they just that's old school Big twelve. They just
- 14:48Speaker 1: throw throw throw, So it's kind of fun to see
- 14:50Speaker 1: those those styles mix. I thought it was really interesting
- 14:53Speaker 1: watching Oklahoma State get destroyed this weekend, but the same
- 14:56Speaker 1: quick sah, I couldn't believe that quick. I mean it
- 14:58Speaker 1: was first boom score, boom score, boom score. Like I am,
- 15:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch this anymore. I'll tell embarrassed for them.
- 15:04Speaker 1: That wasn't my team. Um, who do we have? My
- 15:07Speaker 1: who do we all pick as our champions? If you
- 15:08Speaker 1: don't want to pulling that up? I know we probably
- 15:10Speaker 1: all know. But now that the official rankings are out,
- 15:12Speaker 1: go ahead. Adam has Ohio State, Eddie has Alabama, Kevin
- 15:15Speaker 1: has Alabama. I have Georgia and you have Michigan. Oh
- 15:20Speaker 1: I know, and and how much do I owe as
- 15:23Speaker 1: at this point seven bucks? You've changed twice, I know.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And here's the thing I can does it may have Georgia,
- 15:30Speaker 1: I do not crap. I will never take Clemson. Go
- 15:34Speaker 1: you and I will never tell why would you do that?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Can I offer I go to a new team? But
- 15:39Speaker 1: then I would love for him to go to New
- 15:40Speaker 1: can but then Eddie still has the team, but you
- 15:42Speaker 1: can leave. Yeah, no, I'm not even No matter what
- 15:45Speaker 1: I was gonna say, you can take my team, but
- 15:46Speaker 1: I forgot Eddie's Obama. I am going all in on
- 15:50Speaker 1: the balls Tennessee game. Embrace being a poser. That's stuff
- 16:00Speaker 1: supposed that doesn't embrace it. They're awful. Oh my god,
- 16:03Speaker 1: someone who says I'm new and I just like them? Now,
- 16:06Speaker 1: what do you want me to do? I like that.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I can respect that. I bet he gets a tattoo
- 16:09Speaker 1: in the next couple of weeks. Okay, So now, Kevin
- 16:15Speaker 1: O's about three dollars. What's the total money in this pot?
- 16:20Speaker 1: It can't be that much. I was seven, Kevin O's three,
- 16:23Speaker 1: that's ten, like fourteen fifteen bucks something that basically on
- 16:26Speaker 1: their first I guess I'm just gonna say at Michigan,
- 16:29Speaker 1: although I hate, I'm never taking Tennessee its so Kevin has,
- 16:32Speaker 1: I'm never taking a Clemsons, taking Georgia's taken, Alabama's taken.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I mean, do I just take TC you? But I
- 16:40Speaker 1: don't want to switch right now. Stay where you're at.
- 16:42Speaker 1: It's gonna charge. I don't why weren't even there in
- 16:46Speaker 1: the first place. It's not gonna beat Ohio State. Michigan's
- 16:48Speaker 1: also gonna anything that would Happen's gonna play Illinois, Illinois.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Do I take Texas? Yeah? Yeah? Do that add more
- 16:59Speaker 1: more to the five? Yeah? Um. Let me say this, Okay,

- 18:04Speaker 1: in my life for the trade deadline. Usually this is
- 18:06Speaker 1: the worst day because you're like, where's Joe Montana going nowhere?
- 18:12Speaker 1: Of course not. I think there were nine or ten trades,
- 18:16Speaker 1: maybe more than twelve players and ten deals. All I
- 18:19Speaker 1: know is that kept saying on Twitter at another trade,
- 18:22Speaker 1: another trade, another trade, and I was like, wow, I've
- 18:23Speaker 1: never seen so much action. I feel like the NBA
- 18:26Speaker 1: do you know if this is the most action? It is?
- 18:28Speaker 1: It is? It is why. I don't know what's the
- 18:32Speaker 1: reason yesterday, Yeah, I don't know what their young coaches,
- 18:36Speaker 1: different styles. Yeah, GM is trying to go all in.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Owners going all in because we have all these teams
- 18:41Speaker 1: going like the Dolphins, they're all in and I like it.
- 18:45Speaker 1: They're all in with a rookie coach, Yeah, which is
- 18:47Speaker 1: pretty cool. That guy looks like it doesn't know what
- 18:49Speaker 1: he's doing, but I like it. It gives us hope.
- 18:52Speaker 1: I feel like one day I can be a coach
- 18:53Speaker 1: if he can do it, you know what I mean. Look,
- 18:57Speaker 1: I'm just saying, by the way, he looks like a nerd,
- 19:00Speaker 1: but I like, I'm o my guy. Here's a what
- 19:02Speaker 1: my coaches look like nerds or meat heads and no
- 19:05Speaker 1: in between. So, Dan Campbell, I need you to be
- 19:09Speaker 1: super smart, analytic guy who's learned all and you study
- 19:13Speaker 1: and you watch film, drawing and you do the beautiful
- 19:15Speaker 1: mind charts and you do or all right, man, Yeah,
- 19:20Speaker 1: we're gonna go. We're gonna gonna hit hard, We're gonna
- 19:24Speaker 1: do That's all my coaches. I don't want anybody in
- 19:27Speaker 1: the middle. You want to know how to head coach.
- 19:30Speaker 1: That's the kind of there's two teams, really smart ones
- 19:33Speaker 1: are really strong ones. What about the pretty boy coaches?
- 19:36Speaker 1: You know, I like a Lane Kiffin. Yeah, well I
- 19:38Speaker 1: like Kiffin nice put on a little weight, you know, lazy.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I like him a little better. He put it on
- 19:43Speaker 1: and then he took took a lot of it off. Yeah,
- 19:45Speaker 1: he's in California. Who I'm thinking of Ley, Um, so
- 19:53Speaker 1: let's talk about him. Yea, I jump anybody. I yeah,
- 20:00Speaker 1: it's great, like Kingsbury, who is the best like a
- 20:04Speaker 1: head coach and all of NFL or college, I'll jump in.
- 20:08Speaker 1: I like the San Francisco guy. I mean he is
- 20:11Speaker 1: a good looking dude. What's his name? Shanahan? Really? Yeah,
- 20:15Speaker 1: I like, I like go to him so quickly. I've
- 20:18Speaker 1: I've already thought I've observed him before and like it's
- 20:20Speaker 1: a good looking dude. Sean McVeigh also, no, I don't
- 20:23Speaker 1: like he's like too like to like and his beards
- 20:28Speaker 1: too trimmed. Yeah, he's like the squatty muscular squat you know,
- 20:32Speaker 1: he's like where he couldn't get tall, he got wide strong.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I agree, and not really my type of dude. So
- 20:38Speaker 1: you go McVeigh, you go Shanahan. I'm gonna go to Kingsbury.
- 20:42Speaker 1: He's even used that to his advantage. He said, when
- 20:44Speaker 1: he's in college or recruiting, you kind of look like Kingsbury.
- 20:47Speaker 1: You know, he does a little bit. I don't think
- 20:49Speaker 1: he's got the vibe. No, he he's got the cliff,
- 20:53Speaker 1: But I'm more of a briand Abel kind of guy
- 20:57Speaker 1: who's giants. Really. No, No, you don't. There's no way
- 21:01Speaker 1: you want to guy like that. You don't. You don't.
- 21:06Speaker 1: He's a real deal. No, you're gonna get mad at
- 21:08Speaker 1: him because he's got cookies everywhere. And Brian, no, I
- 21:12Speaker 1: can't cookies in the house. Keep your cookies in the car.
- 21:15Speaker 1: You wouldn't stand the glove box. Um. Probably I like Lane.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Lane is a good looking dude like Lane. Trade deadline
- 21:24Speaker 1: Bradley up to in Miami. Big deal, really big deal. Yeah,
- 21:28Speaker 1: the Broncos get a first for next year, a fourth
- 21:33Speaker 1: four and Chase Edmonds and Chubb is going to go
- 21:37Speaker 1: and they need that. He's gonna terrorize quarterbacks over there.
- 21:40Speaker 1: They needed that. They have that. That's and they tried
- 21:43Speaker 1: the first round pick, so pretty cool and it wasn't
- 21:46Speaker 1: one of the It was one of the picks that
- 21:47Speaker 1: in the trade land steal. Yeah, they've used them all
- 21:50Speaker 1: so far to get Bradley Chubb. And the other one
- 21:54Speaker 1: was who Tyreek Oh that's right. Yeah, part of that
- 21:57Speaker 1: deal making. Yeah, Miami making moves. You gotta love know
- 22:00Speaker 1: how you remember that? How do you remember? Just like
- 22:01Speaker 1: draft pick numbers and assign them to like deals from
- 22:04Speaker 1: four months. I'm the nerdy coach. Someone reminds you, right,
- 22:08Speaker 1: someone's office there to remind you. What are you talking about?
- 22:10Speaker 1: What you trade like whatever? Whenever, whoever remembers like, hey,
- 22:13Speaker 1: don't forget you trade it off your first, Hey, you
- 22:15Speaker 1: trade off your third. You'll never forget those. I think
- 22:21Speaker 1: because when you're dealing, I think. I don't think you.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I don't think you let that affect what you think
- 22:26Speaker 1: is going to help now, because you might have made
- 22:27Speaker 1: a mistake. But if you change now, you can cut
- 22:30Speaker 1: your losses and move in the direction. You just don't.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Although I'm mad and I tried all my picks for
- 22:35Speaker 1: like to picks. We were like math wizard on that stuff.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I'm MADNB A two K. I'm trading picks. I'm moving,
- 22:41Speaker 1: You're willing and dealing. How Roseman over here, I'm getting
- 22:45Speaker 1: a lot of cat I get a lot of cat
- 22:47Speaker 1: penalty trouble your owner. That gets me sometimes. Other than that,
- 22:51Speaker 1: I'm pretty good, pretty good hockets. It goes to Minnesota,
- 22:55Speaker 1: and so he's a good time and listen, he's not
- 22:57Speaker 1: had nothing over there. Yes, and they just lost, um,
- 23:01Speaker 1: they're tied end and so he's out for a bit.
- 23:04Speaker 1: But Hawkins is good and so the lines are gonnaet.
- 23:07Speaker 1: You can always tell good there about what they get back.
- 23:09Speaker 1: And so the Lions get a second next year and
- 23:12Speaker 1: the third. That's a pretty solid trade for the tight end. Um.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Calvin Ridley is one of the Jaguars, which is weird
- 23:19Speaker 1: because he can't even play right now. And you got
- 23:21Speaker 1: trouble gambling, which lisn't he knew the rules and he
- 23:25Speaker 1: broke them. It's just that from what I know about that,
- 23:27Speaker 1: it wasn't that severe. What was he gambling on? Was
- 23:30Speaker 1: any gamble on an app? Yeah? And the ironic thing
- 23:34Speaker 1: of all this, the game that he gambled on last
- 23:36Speaker 1: year was the Falcons versus Jacklars, And now that is irony,
- 23:41Speaker 1: but I mean, you can't be better on absolutely absolutely,
- 23:43Speaker 1: But it wasn't like he was running a business selling
- 23:49Speaker 1: information and using it to bet milk. He absolutely suspended done. Yeah, absolutely,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I'm not saying it, But he's not Pete Rose was
- 23:58Speaker 1: he was even playing. Was he throwing? He wasn't even playing. No,
- 24:02Speaker 1: Pete Rose was betting on every he says, betting on
- 24:04Speaker 1: every team but the Reds. Whatever, dude, I love it,
- 24:08Speaker 1: but really is good. We're as far as I remember him.
- 24:12Speaker 1: The Falcons get a fifth round and a fourth and
- 24:16Speaker 1: conditional fourth depending on what really does. But the earliest
- 24:18Speaker 1: Ridley can apply for reinstatement is February of next year,
- 24:22Speaker 1: but that'd be after the Super Bowl, so he could
- 24:23Speaker 1: probably get back in next year next season. Probably. Um
- 24:27Speaker 1: Claypold to the Bears, which I tell you, and you
- 24:30Speaker 1: can tell me if you're surprised Kevin by this or not.
- 24:34Speaker 1: But whenever they trade Smith to the Ravens, I'm like, well,
- 24:39Speaker 1: the Bears are selling everybody at this point. So and
- 24:42Speaker 1: they trade for a second and five and so I'm like, well,
- 24:46Speaker 1: the Bears are just selling and they're building for the future.
- 24:48Speaker 1: But then they trade and get Claypool. I'm like, wait,
- 24:52Speaker 1: what are they doing? Are they just built an offense
- 24:53Speaker 1: and let the defense go to crop? What do you
- 24:56Speaker 1: think is happening here? To me? That says that they're
- 24:58Speaker 1: gonna be able to sign Claypool. I get him for
- 25:00Speaker 1: a year and a half. Well, they knew wasn't gonna
- 25:02Speaker 1: sign and there, Yeah, they knew who wasn't gonna sign.
- 25:04Speaker 1: So I think they might have even talked to Claypool
- 25:06Speaker 1: as people before, Hey, well they gonna like it here.
- 25:08Speaker 1: They could build off of him, then sign him to
- 25:10Speaker 1: an extension next year, and then he can build with
- 25:12Speaker 1: justin Fields. And then Fields showed him signed the last
- 25:14Speaker 1: couple of weeks. So I think they're building four fields
- 25:17Speaker 1: because I don't think the draft has a lot of
- 25:19Speaker 1: good receivers next year, and they know what Claypool, they
- 25:21Speaker 1: can get him and build him with the quarterback. Yeah,
- 25:23Speaker 1: I think Smith. They were probably just trying to get
- 25:25Speaker 1: as much as they could because I knew he wasn't staying.
- 25:27Speaker 1: And there's really nothing for them to play for this
- 25:29Speaker 1: year except hopefully some some good vibes for next year.
- 25:34Speaker 1: UM Hines goes to Buffalo. Hines was played a lot
- 25:37Speaker 1: because Taylor got hurt and um Indy and the good
- 25:40Speaker 1: thing about nine Hines is that he catches the ball.
- 25:42Speaker 1: That's what Buffalo once. If you could have him on
- 25:45Speaker 1: your fantasy team, now everybody's already got him because John
- 25:47Speaker 1: Taylor was hurt so people had him as a handcuff,
- 25:50Speaker 1: but if he was sitting there, may he'd be an
- 25:52Speaker 1: excellent addition. Uh. And then Jeff Wilson, who came in
- 25:56Speaker 1: and played well for San Francisco until they got McCaffrey.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Then he takes a back seat, but they traded him
- 26:02Speaker 1: to the Dolphins. Now here's the benefit there is that
- 26:05Speaker 1: Wilson knows the Shanahan system and McDaniel. He's a Shanahan
- 26:10Speaker 1: guy in Miami, so he's gonna go and understand kind
- 26:14Speaker 1: of that zone run type offense. I think he'll he'll
- 26:16Speaker 1: do pretty well over there. And in Miami. Miami's in,
- 26:21Speaker 1: they're in, so twelve players I've just seen this traded.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Tindal's were made. The Packers didn't get crap. I don't know.
- 26:27Speaker 1: They were trying to get Claypable. The didn't get crap.
- 26:29Speaker 1: That sucks if you're Aaron Rodgers. That sucks for Aaron Rodgers.
- 26:33Speaker 1: And then the Cowboys were close to ad and Cook's
- 26:36Speaker 1: in Houston. He wanted to get traded. He was liking
- 26:38Speaker 1: all kinds of posts by everybody going, hey, you try
- 26:40Speaker 1: to try him. He wanted out. He's not out, um,
- 26:42Speaker 1: but that's it. That's it as far as the trade deadline.
- 26:45Speaker 1: And then finally the story we'll talk about here is
- 26:48Speaker 1: are the Commanders going to be for sale forever? Dan
- 26:51Speaker 1: Snyder said no, he's not selling. He's not selling. Drama
- 26:54Speaker 1: comes into not selling the latest drama always like I
- 26:57Speaker 1: got dirt on all the other owners not selling well.
- 27:00Speaker 1: According to Twitter and someone familiar with the process, the
- 27:03Speaker 1: Snyder family has heard from groups and they have they
- 27:09Speaker 1: have met with. It looks like a bank. I don't
- 27:10Speaker 1: know which bank it was, Bank of America. I just think,
- 27:13Speaker 1: like the people down the street, they're gonna called the
- 27:14Speaker 1: teller and be like how much a team worker to
- 27:16Speaker 1: actually evaluate and see how much the teams worth. So
- 27:20Speaker 1: it looks like they're gonna sell, which will be good.
- 27:23Speaker 1: I was reading a story at how like the lines
- 27:24Speaker 1: have been owned by the Ford family forever and the
- 27:26Speaker 1: Lions always suck. I think it's a Ford family. You
- 27:29Speaker 1: may look that up because I'm just going from memory here.
- 27:31Speaker 1: It is Um and Snyder in Washington and in Cincinnati
- 27:36Speaker 1: for a long time. These owners like to keep them
- 27:38Speaker 1: in play because they suck, and they like to have
- 27:40Speaker 1: teams that are just bad. They can beat up but
- 27:43Speaker 1: they know they can beat certain teams. They just run
- 27:45Speaker 1: a bad organization. So that's why some of the owners
- 27:49Speaker 1: didn't want Dan Snyder out. Listen, Earth say he's all
- 27:52Speaker 1: about getting Snyder out. He's out with the cowboy hat.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Say Snyder sucks, we need him out of the league.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Come to my museum. I got a guitars time by
- 28:00Speaker 1: John Lennon Rocking, and I saw their plane flight over
- 28:04Speaker 1: my neighborhood again. I saw the Colts. Stop. Oh, I
- 28:06Speaker 1: really did. I've been on the Cardinals because you had
- 28:09Speaker 1: a plane flew over your house. It turns out that
- 28:11Speaker 1: I'm on the flight route of every you told me
- 28:15Speaker 1: Jesus sent that flight over your head. And I bet
- 28:17Speaker 1: the Cardinals because you said that flight would not have
- 28:20Speaker 1: been there unless it was a sign. But I'm not
- 28:21Speaker 1: telling you to bet on the Colts. I'm just saying
- 28:23Speaker 1: that I saw their plane yesterday. I'm also going to
- 28:26Speaker 1: say that Ellinger can be pretty good. I think he's
- 28:31Speaker 1: gonna be pretty good this year. I don't know he
- 28:32Speaker 1: goes against the Patriots this week. I think I think
- 28:35Speaker 1: the Cults win that game. I do. Sorry, sorry to
- 28:39Speaker 1: tell you letting you know right now. Okay, So, Adam,
- 28:43Speaker 1: do you want to set this this interview up? Yeah.
- 28:45Speaker 1: So I am a proud graduate of the University Sinceral,
- 28:49Speaker 1: Arkansas and Conway, Arkansas and UH, and those are my people,
- 28:53Speaker 1: that's my place. And UM I reached out a few
- 28:56Speaker 1: a few weeks ago about getting Hey, what do you
- 29:00Speaker 1: think we could coach Nathan Brown on the podcast I'm
- 29:03Speaker 1: doing this podcast with Bobby UM. They're like, yeah, but
- 29:05Speaker 1: we could do that, And then he carved out some
- 29:07Speaker 1: time for us this week and really really talented young coach. UM.
- 29:12Speaker 1: A couple of things you might know about U s
- 29:14Speaker 1: A UM Charlie Strong, UH coach Charlie Strong u U
- 29:17Speaker 1: c a aloone played football there. Also Mike Norville coaches
- 29:21Speaker 1: at Florida State UM. And now we got coach Nathan
- 29:24Speaker 1: Brown is one of the youngest head coaches in America.
- 29:26Speaker 1: He's twelve. He's twelve. Actually, yeah, pretty cool? Got it?
- 29:30Speaker 1: He got it by playing Madden. He won the Madden
- 29:32Speaker 1: Tournament and then they comoted him right up. Well, I
- 29:38Speaker 1: would like to coach the game from the set, from
- 29:40Speaker 1: the PlayStation, like they're playing with real people, and I
- 29:43Speaker 1: call the players. I have all everything in front of it.
- 29:44Speaker 1: But I'm playing it like it's Madden, and I'm I
- 29:46Speaker 1: call the play. They okay, well he pushed X, all right, guys,
- 29:50Speaker 1: go run that play. They have a headset on. All right,
- 29:52Speaker 1: looks like yeah, try okay, triangle. Okay, triangle guys, and
- 29:56Speaker 1: they run the triangle play. We see how we do.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Then we come back again. They're like, all right, up
- 30:00Speaker 1: third and twelve. Idiot, okay, okay, shotgun. What but have
- 30:04Speaker 1: you ever put the controller on your knee and like, oh,
- 30:06Speaker 1: I gotta grab my phone real quick and accidentally hit
- 30:08Speaker 1: time out with your elbow. I've lost games that Like
- 30:10Speaker 1: what happens when that happens? Like what? Look, they're just
- 30:17Speaker 1: like the broncos a crowd. I think they called a
- 30:20Speaker 1: lot of time outs by him just going oop. Job.
- 30:23Speaker 1: He just has like clapping his hands, but it looks
- 30:25Speaker 1: like the time out sign. He just claps awkwardly. Okay, Um,
- 30:31Speaker 1: did you say you set it up? Yeah? Set it up?
- 30:33Speaker 1: There it is here. We go, Um, good job and
- 30:36Speaker 1: thank you, and we'll on Friday Show. Not that we're
- 30:39Speaker 1: overly Arkansas. I mean I am, obviously, but we have
- 30:41Speaker 1: the SEC's leading rusher who happens to play for Arkansas
- 30:45Speaker 1: Rocket Sanders on on Friday Shows. It's good. We did it.
- 30:50Speaker 1: It's fun because I was like, hey, do you ever
- 30:51Speaker 1: get a headache? I just love talking to a college
- 30:54Speaker 1: football player like he's living his best life right now.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I love it, Like, where are you? You can treat it? Man,
- 31:00Speaker 1: it's you. Hear people yelling in the background. He's like, man,
- 31:04Speaker 1: you getting a time on one? Hey? Can we find
- 31:07Speaker 1: the man? All right? Here you go, Thank you guys.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Here's the interview. Hey, coach, are you doing great? How
- 31:14Speaker 1: about you doing pretty good? I didn't realize I can
- 31:15Speaker 1: see me on camera now. I look like I'm in
- 31:17Speaker 1: a snuggy good. Yeah, I'm not an argument that Thanks.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I felt pretty good. I look like I'm in a
- 31:22Speaker 1: snuggy I'm talking like one of the coolest youngest coaches
- 31:24Speaker 1: in America. Uh, coach Brown, how's your day going today?
- 31:27Speaker 1: So far, so good? I see it's been been a
- 31:30Speaker 1: typical Wednesday, you know, come in early and you know,
- 31:32Speaker 1: kind of a middle week prep for a for a
- 31:34Speaker 1: football game. Blowing me through what a week of prepace? Like?
- 31:36Speaker 1: Because the game Saturday, let's say game happens, you win?
- 31:41Speaker 1: What do you do on Sunday and then how does
- 31:44Speaker 1: that go all the way up until the game the
- 31:45Speaker 1: next the next Saturday. Yeah, usually Sunday mornings. Um, I
- 31:49Speaker 1: give our staff off. We try to. Obviously I attend
- 31:54Speaker 1: a local church chair in Kay, Arkansas and help. A
- 31:56Speaker 1: lot of my staff does too. And we usually get
- 31:58Speaker 1: in and staff meet about one clock in the afternoon
- 32:01Speaker 1: and watch watch film and and clean up the game
- 32:04Speaker 1: from the night before. We bring actually bring our players
- 32:07Speaker 1: in on Sunday evenings so well to what treatment they'll
- 32:10Speaker 1: you know, they'll get their bumps and bruises fixed and
- 32:12Speaker 1: have a team meeting at six pm. And we're soon
- 32:14Speaker 1: as that team meetings over, We're we're meeting and practicing
- 32:17Speaker 1: on Sunday evening. So um, usually we get out of
- 32:20Speaker 1: here by about nine. Um, you know on on Sunday nights.
- 32:23Speaker 1: And uh, my players have Monday's off. That's that's the
- 32:26Speaker 1: mandatory day off that they get up every week. So
- 32:29Speaker 1: they've got no football related related to things on Monday. Nothing.
- 32:32Speaker 1: But is it one of those things that work's like
- 32:34Speaker 1: wink wink, you have the day off. So oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 32:39Speaker 1: you want you want them, you want them, you want
- 32:40Speaker 1: them to have self motivation, right, and and obviously that's
- 32:44Speaker 1: that's highly encouraged by a coaching staff. Yeah, but that
- 32:46Speaker 1: that's that's a big day for us as a coach
- 32:48Speaker 1: staff to Mondays is we're we're putting a lot of
- 32:50Speaker 1: time and prep and we we don't have to worry
- 32:52Speaker 1: about practice or anything getting it prepared. So we spent
- 32:55Speaker 1: a lot of time on our next opponent on Mondays
- 32:56Speaker 1: and Tuesdays and Wednesdays are very similar. Um, our guys
- 32:59Speaker 1: are gonna work out in in the morning and then uh,
- 33:01Speaker 1: and then we'll have you know, good prep days as
- 33:03Speaker 1: far as practice goes on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and
- 33:05Speaker 1: really Thursdays, Uh, Thursdays are are kind of a polished day.
- 33:09Speaker 1: You know, get out there and make sure we we've
- 33:11Speaker 1: got everything you know, tied up and you know, got
- 33:13Speaker 1: any loose sends fixed and and Friday's either a walk
- 33:16Speaker 1: through day or travel day, and you you repeat it
- 33:18Speaker 1: again starting the next Saturday and Sunday. Do you guys
- 33:21Speaker 1: still hit practice not like we used to? You know,
- 33:24Speaker 1: um back probably probably what a lot of people are
- 33:26Speaker 1: used to. Um. You know, you you put the pads
- 33:28Speaker 1: on still. But Tuesdays and Wednesdays would be what you'd
- 33:31Speaker 1: call your most physical practice days. Um. But but man,
- 33:34Speaker 1: we we don't hit the ground hardly at all. You know,
- 33:36Speaker 1: we tap off on the ball carriers, we you know,
- 33:39Speaker 1: we don't even thud up really, we just you know,
- 33:41Speaker 1: it's it's you know, there's such a emphasis on you know,
- 33:44Speaker 1: injury prevention and obviously, uh, the concussion protocols and all
- 33:48Speaker 1: those things that that we're monitoring. You just don't want
- 33:51Speaker 1: to put yourself in a position to put a player
- 33:52Speaker 1: at risk and and not have them for the weekend.
- 33:54Speaker 1: So um, you know, we we we try to get
- 33:56Speaker 1: a little bit of physical um attention as far as
- 33:59Speaker 1: practice go is. But um, but not much, not much
- 34:01Speaker 1: hit and goes on like it used to ten years
- 34:04Speaker 1: from ago. What's that fine line? Because you're not doing
- 34:07Speaker 1: it in the middle of the week, But what about
- 34:09Speaker 1: when you get together in spring or whatever before the
- 34:12Speaker 1: season starts. And I'm sure that line has had to
- 34:14Speaker 1: move just in your coaching career. But how hard and
- 34:17Speaker 1: how quickly and how much you let him hit it
- 34:20Speaker 1: has and and really you know, I've been a coach
- 34:22Speaker 1: for about twelve years now, um, and and it's changed
- 34:25Speaker 1: even in that short amount of time. Um, you know,
- 34:27Speaker 1: we're we're we're still going to We're still going to
- 34:29Speaker 1: have to uh tackle scrimmages in the spring. We'll have
- 34:33Speaker 1: at least one before our first game in the fall. Um,
- 34:36Speaker 1: so we'll we'll we'll still have some times where our
- 34:38Speaker 1: defense gets attacked. Were obviously putting in for the song
- 34:40Speaker 1: tackling frills with bags and different tackling circuit stuff. Um,
- 34:44Speaker 1: but but you know, the days of take the ball
- 34:48Speaker 1: carrier down to the ground a hundred times and practice,
- 34:50Speaker 1: those days have been long gone. And uh, you know
- 34:52Speaker 1: if it also is just as as the offenses and
- 34:57Speaker 1: defenses have evolved in football, I mean that's probably why
- 35:00Speaker 1: more teams are going to a more spread out attack, right.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I Mean, it's just not the physical nature of you
- 35:05Speaker 1: know what we would call big ten football. That's rare,
- 35:08Speaker 1: you know, getting the eye formation, turn a hand the
- 35:10Speaker 1: ball to the running back and have an old school
- 35:12Speaker 1: fullback and tied in. I mean, those days just are
- 35:14Speaker 1: are aren't aren't normal anymore. So, Um, that's probably has
- 35:18Speaker 1: a lot to do with the way you practice. About
- 35:20Speaker 1: five years older than you than one night, and I'd
- 35:21Speaker 1: like talk about my high school football day for a second,
- 35:23Speaker 1: because I played a little bit of myself. But um,
- 35:25Speaker 1: you know, we played a little bull in the ring
- 35:27Speaker 1: and we get we get in and everybody circles you,
- 35:29Speaker 1: and you get in, you point boom hit, boom hit.
- 35:31Speaker 1: You guys still do crap like that because I was
- 35:33Speaker 1: stupid of us to do that. So that that was
- 35:36Speaker 1: that's actually been outlawed. Uh. You you're not allowed to
- 35:39Speaker 1: to really do what what you know, the old school
- 35:41Speaker 1: Oklahoma drill or board drills, you know, line up and
- 35:44Speaker 1: just bang heads and see who the toughest guy is.
- 35:46Speaker 1: I mean, and that's change that changes as recent as
- 35:49Speaker 1: about three or four years ago. So even early in
- 35:51Speaker 1: my head coaching career, we would start practice off a
- 35:53Speaker 1: lot of times, especially in the spring and early fall,
- 35:56Speaker 1: um with with you know, kind of an attitude drill
- 35:58Speaker 1: like that. But you can't do that anymore, and uh,
- 36:01Speaker 1: and I think probably for a good reason. I mean
- 36:03Speaker 1: that's like going up and bang your head up against
- 36:05Speaker 1: a brick wall, you know, I mean, like why would
- 36:06Speaker 1: you do that? Right? I hated it. I hated I
- 36:08Speaker 1: hated bull in the ring. I would go first before,
- 36:10Speaker 1: but he got real loose and I'd hop it. I'd
- 36:11Speaker 1: be the bull and I'd pick on little guys and
- 36:13Speaker 1: they'd say, no, we're gonna send the biggest. It was awful.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Another thing was we were only rewarded with water. Like
- 36:19Speaker 1: that was practiced you, you were rewarded with water. And
- 36:23Speaker 1: so if you practice hard, you got water. I'm assuming
- 36:25Speaker 1: water is readily available these days. It's it's really readily available.
- 36:29Speaker 1: And every station has a power aid on it too,
- 36:31Speaker 1: so so then you can get flavored water. Now. So
- 36:34Speaker 1: I'll tell you what you would be amazed. And I
- 36:36Speaker 1: know you've been around a lot of obviously with Arkansas
- 36:38Speaker 1: and a lot of college programs. I mean, you would
- 36:40Speaker 1: be amazed at the common fan who doesn't go watch practice,
- 36:43Speaker 1: and how many athletic trainers and and water services are
- 36:46Speaker 1: available for our athletes. And they said every station, it's
- 36:48Speaker 1: at every real Um, yeah, they've got they've got water
- 36:51Speaker 1: really readily available for him at all times. I'm gonna
- 36:54Speaker 1: ask you a tough question here, and what I'm gonna
- 36:56Speaker 1: count on is your honesty. You you ever played Maden
- 36:59Speaker 1: and stolen a play from Madden? You know I haven't
- 37:03Speaker 1: played Madden in years, um, but but man, early in
- 37:05Speaker 1: my career I was. I was a quarterback coach, um,
- 37:08Speaker 1: you know, when I first broke into college coaching, and
- 37:11Speaker 1: uh I still would dabble with Madden at times, um
- 37:14Speaker 1: back back then. So there's no doubt. I mean, those
- 37:17Speaker 1: concepts are real. I mean it's it's not like they're
- 37:19Speaker 1: putting together you know, fake content there, right, it's it's
- 37:23Speaker 1: it's real concepts and they work, you know, so I
- 37:26Speaker 1: think you know, the glitches in the system sometimes make
- 37:28Speaker 1: them catch it when they're not supposed to. But like,
- 37:31Speaker 1: but like, yeah, that's that's real stuff. We run a
- 37:33Speaker 1: lot of the same concepts. I mean you look at
- 37:35Speaker 1: you know, the Green Bay Packers, Uh, I see them.
- 37:38Speaker 1: We got in our players lounge, We've got Madden and
- 37:41Speaker 1: all that Xbox PlayStation. It's always going with guys in there,
- 37:44Speaker 1: and you see guys see coach can be pretty luckily
- 37:46Speaker 1: we need to run this play on this it's not
- 37:50Speaker 1: quite the way it works. I think I can then,
- 37:52Speaker 1: oh see, just by being good at Madden. You know,
- 37:54Speaker 1: there's a play that I run. It works a lot
- 37:55Speaker 1: on the past, the long teeth I've read write it
- 37:57Speaker 1: down if you want, um, but it's play action to
- 37:59Speaker 1: the left left, the tied end then runs a drag
- 38:03Speaker 1: which turns into a corner as the other two wide
- 38:05Speaker 1: receivers on the left or crossing the field open every
- 38:08Speaker 1: time because that safety bites and next thing you know, boom,
- 38:10Speaker 1: I got kid on the end zone. Coach, feel free
- 38:12Speaker 1: to run with it. Yeah, well, well it's funny you
- 38:15Speaker 1: explain that we actually completed to pass on a similar
- 38:17Speaker 1: concept last Saturday night. So, coach, do you feel because
- 38:24Speaker 1: I again, you're one of the youngest coaches, um in
- 38:27Speaker 1: college football? Do you ever feel that some of the
- 38:29Speaker 1: older coaches I don't know, make you earn your stripes
- 38:34Speaker 1: to them? Is there an age sort of well, we
- 38:36Speaker 1: don't feel like you're there quite yet because you are
- 38:38Speaker 1: so young. Yeah, I don't think there's any question. I
- 38:40Speaker 1: think in any profession that if you break in at
- 38:43Speaker 1: a young age, there's almost a almost like a you
- 38:46Speaker 1: know a period of time where where you've gotta you've
- 38:50Speaker 1: gotta earn your right, you gotta you gotta earn your
- 38:52Speaker 1: stripes to be be where you are. And um, you
- 38:55Speaker 1: know what's crazy is I'm thirty six years old and
- 38:57Speaker 1: I'm in year five of being a head coach. I mean,
- 38:59Speaker 1: I got I perceived the head coaching job at thirty
- 39:02Speaker 1: one years old here at Central Arkansas and so, um,
- 39:04Speaker 1: you know, I'm actually I've actually been a head coach
- 39:07Speaker 1: longer than all but one coach in our confidence and
- 39:11Speaker 1: and they're all older and me white a bit older me.
- 39:13Speaker 1: So um, so I I feel like experience wise, you know,
- 39:17Speaker 1: as far as just the nuts and bolts of being
- 39:18Speaker 1: a head coach, I have five years under my belt,
- 39:21Speaker 1: and so yeah, I'm young as far as the age goes,
- 39:24Speaker 1: but but a lot of experience comes with that. But
- 39:25Speaker 1: I don't think there's any question that. And then personally,
- 39:29Speaker 1: you always want to be you know, you want to
- 39:30Speaker 1: do the professional right. You want to make sure that
- 39:32Speaker 1: you earned the respect of Obviously people you admire are
- 39:35Speaker 1: people that maybe you bottle your coaching style after and um,
- 39:39Speaker 1: you know, but it but the bottom line is is
- 39:41Speaker 1: is in the NFL has proven it too, um coaching
- 39:45Speaker 1: football coaching has become a young man's sport. I mean
- 39:47Speaker 1: you look at the age of some of the NFL
- 39:49Speaker 1: head coaches. I mean they're they're my age, and there's
- 39:51Speaker 1: some there's even I think one or two younger than
- 39:53Speaker 1: me at this point. So um, you know people are
- 39:56Speaker 1: you know, organizations and and and obviously franchises are are
- 40:00Speaker 1: trending toward that direction. I mean, if you can coach,
- 40:02Speaker 1: you coach. I think as a young minded coach, you've
- 40:05Speaker 1: seen a lot of innovation, uh in the way people
- 40:07Speaker 1: are are are are coaching football games today, not only
- 40:10Speaker 1: college football but in the NFL level. So I think
- 40:12Speaker 1: it's just the norm at this point. You know, you've
- 40:14Speaker 1: sent basically every passing record at U s A. And
- 40:18Speaker 1: you have obviously quarterbacks that you're relying on now to
- 40:22Speaker 1: perform and hopefully, I'm assuming you want to break your
- 40:24Speaker 1: records because that means that you're doing your job as
- 40:27Speaker 1: a coach. But do you ever just want to put
- 40:28Speaker 1: the pads on and go out and throw and seawan
- 40:29Speaker 1: how it's really done. I could probably do that. I
- 40:32Speaker 1: tell our guys all the time, like like, I mean,
- 40:34Speaker 1: I'm I I couldn't. I couldn't go for a whole
- 40:38Speaker 1: game and probably make it, But I promise you I
- 40:39Speaker 1: could give you a half and being the shape and
- 40:42Speaker 1: look like like. And I try to coach my players
- 40:44Speaker 1: in this same aspect. That's that's like when I was
- 40:47Speaker 1: a player, I was you know I was. I wasn't
- 40:49Speaker 1: the biggest guy, I wasn't the fastest guy. I didn't
- 40:51Speaker 1: have the best arm, but but I had I would
- 40:53Speaker 1: I would slit your throat to win a game, you know,
- 40:55Speaker 1: and I would go as an altar competitor. And so
- 40:58Speaker 1: that's the way I coach them. I I want, I
- 41:00Speaker 1: want guys that want to compete. I want and like
- 41:02Speaker 1: you said, if if my if my records are broken here, um,
- 41:06Speaker 1: you know, whatever they are, I hope I'm coaching the
- 41:08Speaker 1: guy that does it right. That means I'm doing my job.
- 41:10Speaker 1: So um. But yeah, I mean I could definitely go
- 41:13Speaker 1: out there. I go out there and throw the ball
- 41:14Speaker 1: at practice and and do some different things. But I'll
- 41:18Speaker 1: tell you my arm, my arm doesn't recover quite as
- 41:20Speaker 1: well the next day as it used to when I
- 41:22Speaker 1: was eighteen to twenty two years old. Why do you
- 41:24Speaker 1: find it important to play so many FBS schools? Well,
- 41:27Speaker 1: I think one there's some benefits to that. One. The
- 41:29Speaker 1: first is financially for for a program like us that Um,
- 41:33Speaker 1: you know, we've played I think seven or eight in
- 41:35Speaker 1: my five years, um, and we've got one win out
- 41:38Speaker 1: of that group. You know, we beat Western Kentucky and
- 41:40Speaker 1: twenty nineteen and they were you know, they were a
- 41:42Speaker 1: nine win Bowl team to actually beat the University Arkansas
- 41:44Speaker 1: that year. I mean, I'm not trying to bring up
- 41:45Speaker 1: that blood there, um Arkansas that year. But but no, no,
- 41:52Speaker 1: not not not that that. That's not saying that. But
- 41:54Speaker 1: I just think financially, it's a game for for for
- 41:57Speaker 1: a you know, a mid major, small program, college book
- 42:00Speaker 1: all program, and it allows us to you know, supplement
- 42:02Speaker 1: some stuff in our budget, and you know, that's that's
- 42:04Speaker 1: a big deal for us. And you know, we you know,
- 42:07Speaker 1: we we we obviously have to uh, you know, we
- 42:09Speaker 1: have to extend the door a little more than probably
- 42:11Speaker 1: a lot of the bigger programs. So um, that's a
- 42:13Speaker 1: big deal. And then I think recruiting is the second reason.
- 42:15Speaker 1: I mean, you you get an opportunity to recruit guys
- 42:18Speaker 1: that you know, maybe felt like they were slided by
- 42:19Speaker 1: a bigger program or by their flagship state program like
- 42:22Speaker 1: we've got you know, I think we've got you know,
- 42:24Speaker 1: we've got double jigget kids from the state of Mississippi.
- 42:26Speaker 1: And to get the chance to play Old miss this
- 42:28Speaker 1: year was a big deal to them. And you know
- 42:30Speaker 1: because that's the school they grew up loving, grew up
- 42:32Speaker 1: rooting for. So to have a chance to go the
- 42:34Speaker 1: bought Hemingway Stadium and run out of that tunnel and
- 42:36Speaker 1: compete against the team you watch your whole life. I mean,
- 42:38Speaker 1: that's a great opportunity for those guys. So I think
- 42:40Speaker 1: I think it's twofold obviously the financial games, but I
- 42:43Speaker 1: think in recruiting it's the big deal as well. Let's
- 42:45Speaker 1: talk about the point for a second, because now, if
- 42:48Speaker 1: a player plays really well for you, do you automatically
- 42:50Speaker 1: have like start recruiting him to stay, which you maybe
- 42:54Speaker 1: hadn't had to do before. Yeah, that's that's that's obviously.
- 42:58Speaker 1: The world we're in right now is um especially at
- 43:01Speaker 1: our level of football. I mean here in a couple
- 43:03Speaker 1: of weeks, uh, all these fcs and and maybe maybe
- 43:07Speaker 1: uh you know, a group of five conferences are about
- 43:09Speaker 1: to put out there all conference teams, right, So what
- 43:11Speaker 1: do you think that you know, what do you think
- 43:13Speaker 1: the power of five conferences are gonna be doing. They're
- 43:15Speaker 1: probably gonna be coming those all conference teams to purge, right,
- 43:17Speaker 1: I mean they want to they want to go get
- 43:19Speaker 1: these kids, and they they have success and those can
- 43:21Speaker 1: be you know, instant impact guys if they have a
- 43:23Speaker 1: space to feel. So. Um, the first thing we're gonna
- 43:26Speaker 1: do is we're gonna do a great job recruiting our
- 43:27Speaker 1: own players. And I tell our our coaches that that
- 43:30Speaker 1: you've got a recruiting area, you've got an assignment, whether
- 43:33Speaker 1: it's your position, or it's your region that you're recruiting
- 43:35Speaker 1: or city you're recruiting, but you better recruit those dudes
- 43:38Speaker 1: in your in your room right now that are there
- 43:40Speaker 1: right now, uh, moving forward, because we nothing is guaranteed anymore.
- 43:44Speaker 1: There's no there's no uh, there's no teeth to to
- 43:47Speaker 1: transferring at this point. I mean, um, so, so if
- 43:50Speaker 1: a kid has success, I mean I don't think there's
- 43:52Speaker 1: any question that that that it's going to be difficult
- 43:54Speaker 1: to hold onto them in the world we're in. Um.
- 43:56Speaker 1: But I do tell tell our our our our players
- 43:59Speaker 1: and our coaches this think we run a program here
- 44:01Speaker 1: that that is conducive to success. I mean, look, I
- 44:04Speaker 1: try to try to coach our players that you know,
- 44:06Speaker 1: don't don't uh, you know, don't be wrapped up in
- 44:09Speaker 1: your identity on the football field. Hopefully we're giving you
- 44:11Speaker 1: more than just football, you know, whether that's the whole
- 44:13Speaker 1: collegiate experience, the academic side, the social side, you know,
- 44:17Speaker 1: so hopefully, hopefully football is not just what's sustaining them
- 44:19Speaker 1: here at u c A, but but much before. UM.
- 44:22Speaker 1: A hypothetical comparison for you, if you don't mind. So,
- 44:25Speaker 1: if the head coach has a lot of coordinators that
- 44:28Speaker 1: move on to bigger jobs, or it could yeah in
- 44:31Speaker 1: NFL or college. Either way, that head coach has looked
- 44:34Speaker 1: at as successful and other great coordinators want to come
- 44:37Speaker 1: and work for that coach. In the same respect, if
- 44:40Speaker 1: you have players, and this is the last question about
- 44:42Speaker 1: the portal, Let's say you have players that are leaving
- 44:44Speaker 1: to go to schools that are bigger. Um, is that
- 44:49Speaker 1: looked Is it looked upon you as success because you
- 44:52Speaker 1: have players that you've graduated And does that help in recruiting?
- 44:55Speaker 1: That's kind of a double edged sword question there, you know, yes,
- 44:58Speaker 1: yes it does. I would think that I would think
- 45:00Speaker 1: that in the world we're in, especially with social media
- 45:03Speaker 1: and uh, you know, just the way we live on
- 45:06Speaker 1: the internet. I think you know, kids know stuff. Student
- 45:09Speaker 1: athletes know stuff, probably more than or quicker than I
- 45:11Speaker 1: would as a head coach, so they know the success
- 45:14Speaker 1: of what a kid has maybe at their second spot
- 45:17Speaker 1: that they went. You know, we we just are are
- 45:19Speaker 1: All American receiver last year. Tyler Hudson is the leading
- 45:22Speaker 1: receiver this year for the University of Louisville. So like
- 45:25Speaker 1: it goes off, he wins a Son Player of the
- 45:27Speaker 1: Year last year, has you know, fourteen hundred yards receive
- 45:30Speaker 1: in twelve touchdowns. You know, he gets the transfer portal.
- 45:33Speaker 1: He's at University of Louisville and he's their leading receiver
- 45:35Speaker 1: right now, and you know they're about to be Bowl eligible.
- 45:37Speaker 1: I mean, so I don't think for one second that
- 45:39Speaker 1: people don't see that. Um, you know, how you use
- 45:42Speaker 1: that in recruiting is is obviously obviously your your your
- 45:46Speaker 1: program and cultures, personal decision. You know, whether you sell
- 45:49Speaker 1: that or not, I don't know. UM, it's we're still
- 45:51Speaker 1: all kind of in that new world of how kind
- 45:53Speaker 1: of navigating through this transfer portal and how you how
- 45:56Speaker 1: you handle it. So, UM, I would say that there's
- 45:58Speaker 1: going to be a lot of programs that they do
- 46:00Speaker 1: you use that to their band. Hey, look this this.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Many kids have gone on to play at bigger schools,
- 46:04Speaker 1: you know, and it's almost like a junior college system, right,
- 46:07Speaker 1: I mean, in your college just sailed to high school recruits. Hey,
- 46:09Speaker 1: this is how many kids have signed out of here
- 46:11Speaker 1: with FPS programs and they get kids because of that.
- 46:14Speaker 1: So I mean, you know, I'm not I'm not quite
- 46:17Speaker 1: sold on that yet. I mean, I like, I like
- 46:19Speaker 1: the thought of keeping our guys here in purple and gray.
- 46:21Speaker 1: But but again, that's not to say that you can't.
- 46:23Speaker 1: You can't and won't evolve with the times. You are
- 46:26Speaker 1: three time All American quarterback and you finish with all
- 46:29Speaker 1: these records, Um, you go, and so what happens because
- 46:33Speaker 1: you went undrafted? Correct? And so what do you do
- 46:37Speaker 1: as someone who obviously has talent who goes undrafted, you
- 46:41Speaker 1: have dreams of playing in the NFL. What's what's that
- 46:44Speaker 1: next move? And what happened with you? Well, one, I
- 46:46Speaker 1: was beyond blessed with the opportunity I had. I mean,
- 46:49Speaker 1: come and come, you know, finishing my eligibility up in
- 46:51Speaker 1: two thousand and eight, I I got the opportunity to
- 46:53Speaker 1: sign with a great agency, went and trained um for
- 46:56Speaker 1: the for the NFL combine and and draft. Um gotta
- 47:00Speaker 1: attation to the East West Shrine game, and then the
- 47:02Speaker 1: following week got an invitation to the Senior Bowl. So
- 47:05Speaker 1: um at the time, I was University of Arkansas's first
- 47:08Speaker 1: Senior Bowl invite, which is obviously the biggest bowl game
- 47:11Speaker 1: for a senior as far as that goes. And I
- 47:13Speaker 1: went and actually played really well. I was the North
- 47:16Speaker 1: team's offensive m v P in the game. So I'm
- 47:18Speaker 1: sitting there thinking, man, this the cards are stacking up.
- 47:21Speaker 1: I mean, I know I'm not a first round, second round,
- 47:23Speaker 1: third round talent, but man, somebody's got it. Has to
- 47:25Speaker 1: take a chance on me in the middle rounds, late
- 47:27Speaker 1: rounds and went to the combine. I wasn't obviously told
- 47:30Speaker 1: you earlier, I'm not the fastest guy in the world
- 47:31Speaker 1: all that, but I threw the ball well, did did
- 47:33Speaker 1: did everything I needed to do. Um, it just didn't
- 47:36Speaker 1: work out. I did. You know, the draft is a
- 47:38Speaker 1: fickle situation. You know. There was three different times and
- 47:41Speaker 1: that two thousand nine NFL Draft where I was getting
- 47:44Speaker 1: calls from my agents saying, hey, I think you're I
- 47:46Speaker 1: think that the forty niner is gonna take you right here,
- 47:48Speaker 1: and then a pick or two before them would change
- 47:50Speaker 1: the way they drafted their spot you know, but just
- 47:54Speaker 1: it's just such a weird deal and uh, you're at
- 47:56Speaker 1: the mercy of other people's pick and and and what
- 47:58Speaker 1: the you know, are they drafted best on the board
- 48:01Speaker 1: or whatever it is. You know, So it just didn't
- 48:03Speaker 1: work out. And so I ended up signing with Jacksonville
- 48:05Speaker 1: with the Jaguars and and spent a little time with them,
- 48:08Speaker 1: and that seemed like a great situation for me, um personally,
- 48:11Speaker 1: and just just with their quarterback situation didn't end up
- 48:13Speaker 1: working out, ended up getting cut and end up with
- 48:15Speaker 1: the Saints. And after the Saints ended up cutting me. Um,
- 48:19Speaker 1: you know, I just got married to my wife, Jessica.
- 48:21Speaker 1: We were we had we had been together at u
- 48:23Speaker 1: C A met when we were young, and you know,
- 48:25Speaker 1: we're together through our whole career here. And UM, you know,
- 48:27Speaker 1: I made I kind of made the decision like I know,
- 48:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna be a football coach, right, I'm that's that's
- 48:31Speaker 1: that's ultimately what I'm gonna be, no matter how long
- 48:33Speaker 1: I played in NFL or whatever that was. Um, I
- 48:36Speaker 1: was going to get into coaching. And UM, we made
- 48:38Speaker 1: the you know, kind of the decision mutually just to
- 48:41Speaker 1: just to pursue the coaching side of it, and UH,
- 48:44Speaker 1: and really, in hindsight, wouldn't change it one bit. I
- 48:47Speaker 1: had some CFL opportunities to go to Canada. UM had
- 48:49Speaker 1: a couple of different opportunities to God like, the Steelers
- 48:51Speaker 1: called me uh in the middle of the fall season
- 48:54Speaker 1: in two thousand nine, I wanted me to come up
- 48:56Speaker 1: for a try out. Uh, it just said it just
- 48:58Speaker 1: didn't feel right. I felt like I turned the pay.
- 49:00Speaker 1: Each coaching had an opportunity to u c a con
- 49:02Speaker 1: be the quarterback coach right away basically UM and and
- 49:06Speaker 1: you know, in hindsight, would not would not change I mean,
- 49:08Speaker 1: to get the opportunity to a head football coach at
- 49:10Speaker 1: the Division one school at thirty one years old is rare. UM.
- 49:13Speaker 1: And to be in one place for really your whole
- 49:15Speaker 1: coaching career, UM, it's even more rare, right and so
- 49:18Speaker 1: UM At this point in my career, I'm just excited
- 49:20Speaker 1: to be where I'm at. But those experiences and relationships
- 49:24Speaker 1: I was able to build and make UM in that
- 49:26Speaker 1: process of feeding up to the NFL and even on
- 49:28Speaker 1: those organizations UM is definitely something I still think helps
- 49:32Speaker 1: me today. You went from QB coach to O C
- 49:35Speaker 1: to head coach. All at U c A. You played
- 49:37Speaker 1: at U c A. Obviously you're a U s A guy.
- 49:39Speaker 1: I think you're the U s A Hall of Fame.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Like you're already king dgling at U s A. It's
- 49:43Speaker 1: pretty cool. I'm assuming though, with and this is again
- 49:47Speaker 1: just an assumption. I'm assuming you've been getting costs from
- 49:49Speaker 1: other places. Yeah, and and and it's and it's happened
- 49:52Speaker 1: and and I tell I tell man, I tell people
- 49:55Speaker 1: all the time, and I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
- 49:57Speaker 1: paint myself in a corner and lie or say something
- 50:00Speaker 1: it I come back and say, well you said this
- 50:02Speaker 1: this one time. You're never leaving the U c A. Well,
- 50:03Speaker 1: I mean I'm not gonna say that. I mean, if
- 50:05Speaker 1: opportunity comes, that's that's right. Um, you know, whether whatever
- 50:09Speaker 1: that is or wherever, whatever it looks like. I mean,
- 50:11Speaker 1: that's a obviously a prayerful consideration I'd make with my
- 50:14Speaker 1: family and and and it's but it but it would
- 50:16Speaker 1: take it would take a lot, plus the kitchen scene
- 50:18Speaker 1: to get me out of this place. And this place
- 50:20Speaker 1: is obviously, um I've got deep routes here. Um not
- 50:24Speaker 1: only just with the university, but with the community. My
- 50:27Speaker 1: wife and kids love it here. I mean, this is
- 50:29Speaker 1: just a special place. And I think if anybody spends
- 50:31Speaker 1: a little bit of time and this, and not only
- 50:33Speaker 1: in this football program, but this university, you figure out
- 50:36Speaker 1: real fast that this is just and it's because of
- 50:37Speaker 1: the people. It's a special place. And you know, I
- 50:40Speaker 1: tell people when I get a chance to speak about
- 50:42Speaker 1: and promote the university, I mean, you can slip me
- 50:44Speaker 1: at the risk and I'll blied purple. I mean it
- 50:46Speaker 1: really is. I mean that's really the approach I have,
- 50:49Speaker 1: and the you know so much that you see a
- 50:51Speaker 1: and this community is given to me. I'm just happy
- 50:53Speaker 1: I get to give back to you. Here's the thing.
- 50:55Speaker 1: He's about slitting two different body parts of this interview.
- 50:57Speaker 1: To be honest with you, coach, You've slipped two body parts,
- 51:00Speaker 1: and I'm that's that's what happens when you're living in
- 51:02Speaker 1: the in the n I L and transfer port world. Yeah,
- 51:06Speaker 1: I hear you. Uh So you're born in Mississippi, you
- 51:08Speaker 1: went to you played high school BA in Russellville, Right,
- 51:10Speaker 1: I did. Yeah, I was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and
- 51:13Speaker 1: uh in elementary age, moved up to Arkansas and basically
- 51:17Speaker 1: basically was raised in Russellville. Well, listen, coach, I the
- 51:21Speaker 1: purple field. Sometimes it's hard to look at. Although it's
- 51:23Speaker 1: awesome that you have your own thing. I like that
- 51:24Speaker 1: that that people know you guys by the by the field, right,
- 51:27Speaker 1: it's hard to stand apart in any way whatsoever. So
- 51:32Speaker 1: I like I like it just like Boise has their
- 51:34Speaker 1: blue field. Like you're known for that, but you're also
- 51:36Speaker 1: known for so much more than that. And I love
- 51:38Speaker 1: what you've done with the program up there. And man,
- 51:40Speaker 1: just just keep killing it, you know. I think you
- 51:42Speaker 1: said a great example, uh to a lot of people.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Like you know where you fit in. You're celebrated, you
- 51:47Speaker 1: also celebrate it very well. And just really looking forward
- 51:51Speaker 1: to to seeing you guys, you know, take down some
- 51:54Speaker 1: of those big schools when your conference and we'll see
- 51:56Speaker 1: what happens. I've always proud to see an Arkansas I
- 51:57Speaker 1: consider you an Arkansas guy. Honestly, you're here some Celementories school,
- 52:00Speaker 1: you're an Arkansas guy. So I always love to seeing
- 52:02Speaker 1: Arkansas guy doing it, man, because there's not a whole
- 52:04Speaker 1: a whole um a lot of form when as a kid,
- 52:07Speaker 1: I didn't get to see a lot a lot of
- 52:08Speaker 1: Arkansas people setting a good example that you can go
- 52:11Speaker 1: and just pursue your dreams. So I appreciate that you
- 52:14Speaker 1: do that and you lead by example, and I appreciate
- 52:16Speaker 1: your time, coach man. I appreciate a special place and
- 52:19Speaker 1: and obviously respect what you do and what the way
- 52:21Speaker 1: you do it. And uh appreciate you taking the time
- 52:25Speaker 1: and listening to my story a little bit and and
- 52:27Speaker 1: and getting this opportunity. I know it's a big deal,
- 52:29Speaker 1: and um, you know, just a blessing man, and uh
- 52:32Speaker 1: you know I've got a good group of guys here
- 52:34Speaker 1: and and love this place and always gonna be purple man.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Prepare claws up if you need me to draw that
- 52:39Speaker 1: Madden play out to you Texa to you will because
- 52:41Speaker 1: you've got my email. I'm always open, open eyes and
- 52:44Speaker 1: New Years, I promise. Do you ever try to do
- 52:45Speaker 1: the center sneak? Is that a thing? Can you do that?
- 52:47Speaker 1: We do? That? You can kids out? The fumba Rooski
- 52:50Speaker 1: is in our playbook. So how many players do you
- 52:53Speaker 1: think can you how many plays can you call from?
- 52:56Speaker 1: All in? How many plays can you call from? Oh? Gosh, man,
- 53:00Speaker 1: that's a lot estimated ten. Oh, no, way more than
- 53:04Speaker 1: way more than that, way more than that. I'm I
- 53:08Speaker 1: mean upwards of I would say, you know, in any
- 53:10Speaker 1: given game, probably fifty, you know, seventy five. I would
- 53:14Speaker 1: say in the playbook, you're talking upwards right, like you
- 53:18Speaker 1: may not carry them all on a game. One final question,
- 53:20Speaker 1: the idiot question here. Sometimes if I know they're gonna
- 53:24Speaker 1: run on mat and coach, I'll go, I'll go eight,
- 53:26Speaker 1: I'll send eight and I'll drop three back. I'm like,
- 53:28Speaker 1: we're selling all out. Yeah, that's it. That's yes, that's
- 53:31Speaker 1: exactly we're going in. We're going all you ever do
- 53:33Speaker 1: that you have to you have to on third and short,
- 53:36Speaker 1: fourth and short. I mean that you you you've got
- 53:39Speaker 1: on your on your paper, you're your your analytics say
- 53:41Speaker 1: they're running the ball. You've got to fill all every gap,
- 53:44Speaker 1: every gap that's possible on that run run play. So yeah,
- 53:47Speaker 1: I'm all in on that. Probably gonna do a little
- 53:48Speaker 1: play action on you though, that tight end move now
- 53:50Speaker 1: that I know if I remember coaching against you, that's
- 53:52Speaker 1: what I'm doing and running that play I just told
- 53:53Speaker 1: you about. If you have ever have anybody does doesn't
- 53:56Speaker 1: does the wedge fake quarterback sneak for the faith ball.
- 53:59Speaker 1: That's that's nasty. That'll get you. That's what I'll do
- 54:01Speaker 1: right now. All right, Adam, you want to say anything
- 54:02Speaker 1: before we go? Yeah, man, I coach, thank you for
- 54:05Speaker 1: your time. I am a Conway guy. I graduated from U.
- 54:08Speaker 1: S A. We were there at the same time. I
- 54:10Speaker 1: watched you play. I watched you throw that fade to
- 54:12Speaker 1: Aaron for many many times. And uh and it's a
- 54:16Speaker 1: real pleasure to have you on. Thanks for selling Conway.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Thanks for loving Arkansas, and thanks for doing what you do. Man. Yeah, Adam,
- 54:21Speaker 1: you're you're stud too. Man. We we we We definitely
- 54:24Speaker 1: take great pride and you being a U C alum
- 54:25Speaker 1: on what you're doing as well. Man. And he will
- 54:27Speaker 1: slit your throat if you give any problems. All right, coach,
- 54:29Speaker 1: Good to see a coach. Thanks guys, appreciate you guys.
- 54:32Speaker 1: All right, that's it, thanks to coach, Adam Eddie kick off, Kevin,
- 54:37Speaker 1: Thank you guys. Please follow at twenty five whistles. This
- 54:39Speaker 1: is the halftime show. Please tell your friends we'd love
- 54:41Speaker 1: if they started listening to this. And we'll see on Friday.
- 54:45Speaker 1: And Adam you since you provided the coach today. Once
- 54:47Speaker 1: you blow us, how it pleasure? Yeah we go. That
- 54:51Speaker 1: joke will never get old. See you next week, everybody,
