- 0:00Welcome to Pomoja Podcast, the place where stronger
- 0:03lives are built, faith is strengthened, hearts
- 0:06are encouraged, and Christ -centered homes are
- 0:08shaped through ordinary conversations that become
- 0:11extraordinary encounters with God's truth. One
- 0:14conversation, one story, one revelation at a
- 0:18time. I'm your host, Barry Mwamba. As we arrive
- 0:22at the final conversation of this journey, I
- 0:25find myself looking back over everything we have
- 0:27discovered together. We have walked through prisons,
- 0:31wildernesses, palaces, Babylon, hidden years,
- 0:36failure, and finally, the cross. Each conversation
- 0:41revealed another part of God's heart. Each servant
- 0:44taught us something different. Joseph taught
- 0:47us that God can use injustice. Moses taught us
- 0:50that God can use waiting. Esther taught us that
- 0:54God prepares people long before they understand
- 0:57why they have been positioned where they are.
- 1:00Daniel taught us that God can prepare His servants
- 1:03even in environments trying to redefine them.
- 1:06Paul taught us that hidden years are often heaven's
- 1:09workshop. Peter taught us that failure surrendered
- 1:12to Christ can become another instrument in the
- 1:15Master's hands. Jesus showed us that the greatest
- 1:19apparent defeat became the greatest victory.
- 1:22in history. By now, one truth has become unmistakable.
- 1:28God never wastes the forge. But perhaps one question
- 1:32has remained quietly in the background throughout
- 1:35this entire series. Why? Why would a loving God
- 1:39choose this path so often? Why does he prepare
- 1:42his servants before revealing their assignment?
- 1:45Why the prison before the palace? Why the wilderness
- 1:48before the promised land? Why hidden years before
- 1:52influence? Why does God so often work in secret
- 1:56before he works in public? Today, I believe we
- 2:00finally answer that question. And I think the
- 2:03answer is both simpler and deeper than we imagined.
- 2:08Because I no longer believe that God's highest
- 2:11priority is preparing people for an assignment.
- 2:14I believe his highest priority is preparing people
- 2:17through the assignment to become more like his
- 2:20son. That changes everything. The assignment
- 2:24matters. The ministry matters. The influence
- 2:28matters. But none of those things are God's greatest
- 2:32purpose. God's greatest purpose has always been
- 2:35transformation. He is not simply preparing people
- 2:39to do great things. He is preparing people to
- 2:43become Christ -like. And perhaps that is why
- 2:46every forge in scripture has one thing in common.
- 2:50Every one of them leaves God's servant looking
- 2:52less like themselves and more like Christ. That
- 2:57is where we begin. As I have reflected on every
- 3:03servant we have studied throughout this series,
- 3:07one truth has become impossible for me to ignore.
- 3:10Although their stories are very different, although
- 3:13they lived in different generations, faced different
- 3:16enemies, and experienced different kinds of trials,
- 3:20they all arrived at exactly the same place. They
- 3:24stopped depending upon themselves. I find that
- 3:27fascinating because when we first meet many of
- 3:30these men and women, they are often full of strength,
- 3:34ability, dreams, intelligence. courage or confidence.
- 3:39None of those things are wrong in themselves.
- 3:41In fact, many of those qualities are gifts from
- 3:44God. Yet before God entrusts them with the full
- 3:48weight of their assignment, something always
- 3:51changes. Joseph enters the prison as a young
- 3:54man with dreams. He leaves the prison as a man
- 3:57who understands that interpretation belongs to
- 4:00God. Moses leaves Egypt believing he can deliver
- 4:04Israel through his own strength. 40 years later,
- 4:08he stands before the burning bush asking, who
- 4:11am I? The man who once acted without being sent
- 4:14now believes he is incapable of going unless
- 4:18God goes with him. David enters the wilderness
- 4:22carrying a promise. He leaves the wilderness
- 4:25understanding that becoming king depends entirely
- 4:28upon God's timing rather than his own ability.
- 4:32Esther walks into the palace as a young woman
- 4:35chosen for her beauty. She walks out willing
- 4:38to lay down her own life because she has discovered
- 4:41that her position was never about herself. Daniel
- 4:45begins his journey as a gifted young man. Years
- 4:49later, standing before kings, his confidence
- 4:52is no longer in his wisdom, but in the God who
- 4:56reveals mysteries. Paul arrives in Damascus convinced
- 5:00that he understands everything. The hidden years
- 5:03teach him that knowing Christ is infinitely greater
- 5:06than everything he once considered gain. Peter
- 5:10enters the courtyard believing that his devotion
- 5:12will never fail. He leaves the Sea of Galilee
- 5:16knowing that apart from Christ he can do nothing.
- 5:19Do you see the pattern? Different stories. Different
- 5:22journeys. The same lesson. God was gently removing
- 5:27every foundation upon which they could have built
- 5:30their confidence apart from him. That is not
- 5:33because God delights in breaking people. It is
- 5:36because he loves them too much to allow them
- 5:39to carry an assignment with a foundation that
- 5:42cannot sustain it. I have often wondered why
- 5:45God does not simply entrust people with great
- 5:47responsibility the moment he calls them. Perhaps
- 5:51it is because influence has a way of exposing
- 5:54whatever still lives inside the human heart.
- 5:58If pride remains, influence magnifies it. If
- 6:01self -reliance remains, responsibility reveals
- 6:04it. If the desire for recognition remains, success
- 6:08feeds it. The forge becomes the place where God
- 6:11lovingly removes everything that would eventually
- 6:14destroy the very servant he intends to use. When
- 6:17I think about that, I realize the forge has never
- 6:20been punishment. It has always been protection.
- 6:24God was protecting Joseph from becoming an arrogant
- 6:27ruler. He was protecting Moses from leading in
- 6:30his own strength. He was protecting David from
- 6:33confusing the throne with entitlement. He was
- 6:36protecting Peter from believing that ministry
- 6:39depended upon Peter, and perhaps he is protecting
- 6:42us in ways we do not yet understand. Sometimes
- 6:46we ask God to remove the fire because we cannot
- 6:50see what he is accomplishing within it. Yet God,
- 6:53who sees the end from the beginning, knows exactly
- 6:57what kind of servant will be needed for the assignment
- 6:59he has already prepared. That is why humility
- 7:02is never an accident. It is forged. Dependence
- 7:06upon God is never automatic. It is forged. A
- 7:09heart that genuinely says, Lord, without you
- 7:13I can do nothing, is rarely formed in comfort
- 7:16alone. More often, it is formed in the very seasons
- 7:20we would have preferred to avoid. Looking back
- 7:23now, I think the forge was never teaching these
- 7:26servants how strong they were. It was teaching
- 7:29them how faithful God is. And perhaps that is
- 7:33the first and greatest purpose of every forge,
- 7:36not to convince us that we are capable, but to
- 7:39bring us to the joyful realization that God is
- 7:42sufficient. If the forge teaches us to depend
- 7:47upon God rather than ourselves, then another
- 7:51question naturally follows. What kind of person
- 7:54emerges from that process? Because God is not
- 7:58only removing pride, He is building something
- 8:01new, something that cannot be produced by talent,
- 8:05education, experience, or natural ability alone.
- 8:09He is shaping the character of Christ, and perhaps
- 8:12that is the greatest work he accomplishes before
- 8:15he ever entrusts an assignment. As I continue
- 8:20reflecting on God's pattern throughout Scripture,
- 8:23I have become convinced that the greatest miracle
- 8:26of the forge is not that it changes our circumstances.
- 8:30The greatest miracle is that it changes us. We
- 8:34often ask God to change the situation around
- 8:37us while God is patiently working to change the
- 8:40person within us. Perhaps that explains why two
- 8:45people can walk through the same trial and emerge
- 8:48completely different. One becomes bitter. The
- 8:52other becomes compassionate. One loses hope.
- 8:56The other grows in faith. One turns away from
- 9:00God. The other discovers a deeper intimacy with
- 9:04Him than ever before. The difference is not always
- 9:08the fire. The difference is what the fire is
- 9:11producing. That is exactly what Paul teaches
- 9:14us in Romans when he writes that those whom God
- 9:18foreknew He also predestined to be conformed
- 9:22to the image of his son. I have read that verse
- 9:26many times, but during this series, it has taken
- 9:29on an entirely new meaning for me. Notice what
- 9:34Paul does not say. He does not say that God's
- 9:38highest purpose is to make us successful. He
- 9:41does not say that God's highest purpose is to
- 9:44make us wealthy. He does not say that God's highest
- 9:48purpose is to make us influential or admired
- 9:51by people. God's eternal purpose is to make us
- 9:55look more like Jesus. That changes the way we
- 9:59understand every season of life. If Christ is
- 10:03the destination, then every forge becomes part
- 10:07of the journey. Every disappointment has meaning.
- 10:10Every delay has meaning. Every unanswered prayer
- 10:14has meaning. Every season of waiting has meaning
- 10:18not because God enjoys watching his children
- 10:22struggle But because he sees something we cannot
- 10:26yet see He sees the finished work. He sees the
- 10:30servant after the forge has accomplished its
- 10:34purpose When I look back at Joseph, I no longer
- 10:38see only a prisoner becoming a ruler I see a
- 10:42young man learning forgiveness before receiving
- 10:45power. Had Joseph reached the throne without
- 10:49first learning to forgive, he may have used his
- 10:52authority to take revenge instead of preserving
- 10:55life. When I look at Moses, I no longer see only
- 11:00a shepherd becoming a deliverer. I see an impulsive
- 11:04man becoming patient enough to lead millions
- 11:07through a wilderness. When I look at David, I
- 11:11no longer see only a shepherd becoming a king.
- 11:15I see a man whose years of waiting taught him
- 11:17to trust God's timing instead of forcing God's
- 11:22promises. When I look at Peter, I no longer see
- 11:25only a disciple restored after failure. I see
- 11:29a proud man becoming a humble shepherd whose
- 11:33greatest confidence rested in the grace of Christ
- 11:35rather than in his own strength. Every forge
- 11:39was shaping the character required for the assignment,
- 11:42and that pattern has never changed. Sometimes
- 11:45we pray, Lord, make me useful. God answers first.
- 11:50Let me make you like my son. Sometimes we ask
- 11:54for greater influence. God begins working on
- 11:58our humility. Sometimes we ask for open doors.
- 12:02God begins working on our patience. Sometimes
- 12:05we ask for promotion. God begins teaching us
- 12:09faithfulness in places no one else notices. Why?
- 12:13Because God understands something we often forget.
- 12:17Character carries an assignment farther than
- 12:20talent ever will. Gifts may open doors. Knowledge
- 12:24may create opportunities. Natural ability may
- 12:28attract attention. But only Christ -like character
- 12:31can sustain what God entrusts into our hands.
- 12:35That is why the forge cannot be rushed. Steel
- 12:39is not shaped in a moment. Gold is not refined
- 12:43in an instant. Neither are servants of God. The
- 12:46forge takes time because transformation takes
- 12:49time. Looking back over every conversation we
- 12:53have shared in this series, I now realize that
- 12:56God was never primarily preparing Joseph for
- 12:59Egypt. He was preparing Joseph to represent God's
- 13:02heart in Egypt. He was never primarily preparing
- 13:06Moses to confront Pharaoh. He was preparing Moses
- 13:10to reveal God's character before Israel. He was
- 13:14never primarily preparing Esther to stand before
- 13:17the king. He was preparing Esther to display
- 13:20sacrificial courage. He was never primarily preparing
- 13:24Peter to preach at Pentecost. He was preparing
- 13:28Peter to shepherd God's people with humility
- 13:31and grace. The assignment was always important,
- 13:35but the servant was always God's first priority.
- 13:39Perhaps that is why heaven is never in a hurry.
- 13:42God measures success differently than we do.
- 13:45We count followers. God forms disciples. We celebrate
- 13:50platforms. God develops character. We admire
- 13:54public influence. God rejoices when Christ is
- 13:57being formed within us. And when Christ becomes
- 13:59the deepest work of our lives, every forge begins
- 14:02to make sense. If the forge teaches us dependence
- 14:10upon God, and if the forge shapes us into the
- 14:13likeness of Christ, then one final question remains.
- 14:17Why does God entrust an assignment only after
- 14:21this work has begun? Because there is one last
- 14:25purpose of the forge that brings this entire
- 14:27series together. God is not simply preparing
- 14:31us to finish a mission. He is preparing us to
- 14:35leave a legacy that reflects His glory. And that
- 14:39is where we bring this journey to its final conclusion.
- 14:44As I have reflected on everything we have discovered
- 14:48together throughout this journey, I have come
- 14:51to realize that perhaps one of the greatest misunderstandings
- 14:55among believers is the way we think about God's
- 14:58assignments. We often imagine that the assignment
- 15:02is the destination, that once God finally opens
- 15:06the door, promotes us, answers our prayers, or
- 15:10fulfills the promise He spoke over our lives.
- 15:14His work is complete. Yet when I look at scripture,
- 15:18I see something entirely different. The assignment
- 15:21is never the end of God's work. It is simply
- 15:24another stage in his work. That changes the way
- 15:28I read the lives of every servant we have studied.
- 15:33Joseph's story did not end when he became governor
- 15:36of Egypt. In many ways, his greatest test began
- 15:40after he received authority. It is one thing
- 15:43to remain faithful while sitting in a prison
- 15:46with nothing to lose. It is something entirely
- 15:50different to remain humble when the entire nation
- 15:54bows before you. The throne was never Joseph's
- 15:58reward for surviving the prison. It became the
- 16:01place where everything the prison had produced
- 16:04inside him would finally be revealed. The same
- 16:08pattern appears in Moses' life. We often think
- 16:12the wilderness ended when he stood before Pharaoh,
- 16:15but in reality, the wilderness continued while
- 16:19he was leading millions of people through another
- 16:22wilderness. Every complaint, every act of rebellion,
- 16:26every difficult decision became another opportunity
- 16:30for God to continue shaping his servant. The
- 16:33assignment did not replace the forge. The assignment
- 16:37became part of the forge. The same is true of
- 16:41David. Becoming king did not eliminate the need
- 16:45for dependence upon God. If anything, the crown
- 16:49revealed even more clearly why the years of waiting
- 16:52had been necessary. Every decision he made as
- 16:56king carried consequences for an entire nation.
- 17:01God had not merely prepared David to receive
- 17:04a throne. He had prepared him to carry the responsibility
- 17:08that came with it. When I consider Esther, Daniel,
- 17:12Paul, and Peter, I discover exactly the same
- 17:16principle. Their preparation did not stop when
- 17:20the assignment began because God's ultimate purpose
- 17:24had never been simply to complete a mission.
- 17:27His purpose was to continue forming men and women
- 17:31who reflected his own heart while carrying out
- 17:35that mission. I believe this is where many of
- 17:38us become discouraged. We assume that once God's
- 17:42promise comes to pass, life should become easier.
- 17:46Yet scripture shows us that every new assignment
- 17:50simply introduces new opportunities to trust
- 17:53Him more deeply. God never intended the assignment
- 17:58to replace our dependence upon Him. He intended
- 18:01it to deepen that dependence. Perhaps that is
- 18:05why Jesus said, apart from me, you can do nothing.
- 18:10He did not say those words only to people waiting
- 18:13for their calling. He spoke them to disciples
- 18:17who would soon change the world. Even after receiving
- 18:21the assignment, they would still need the same
- 18:24dependence they had learned while following him.
- 18:28When I step back and look at this entire series,
- 18:31I now understand why God allowed us to spend
- 18:34so much time in prisons, wildernesses, palaces,
- 18:39hidden years, failures, and finally at the cross.
- 18:44He was never simply teaching us how he prepares
- 18:47people for ministry. He was revealing the heart
- 18:50of a father whose greatest desire is to form
- 18:53his children into the likeness of his son. That
- 18:57realization changes the way I pray. Instead of
- 19:01saying, Lord, when will you give me my assignment?
- 19:05I began asking, Lord, what are you forming within
- 19:10me today? Instead of asking, why am I still in
- 19:14this season? I began asking, what part of Christ's
- 19:19character are you producing through this season?
- 19:22Instead of measuring my life by promotions, achievements
- 19:25or recognition. I begin measuring it by a much
- 19:29deeper question. Am I becoming more like Jesus?
- 19:34Because if the answer to that question is yes,
- 19:37then the forge is accomplishing its purpose,
- 19:40even if I cannot yet see the full assignment.
- 19:44And perhaps that is the greatest lesson this
- 19:47entire journey has been leading us toward. God's
- 19:51greatest accomplishment will never be the ministry
- 19:54he builds through us. His greatest accomplishment
- 19:57will always be the image of Christ he forms within
- 20:01us. Everything else, the influence, the platform,
- 20:06the opportunities, the legacy, is simply the
- 20:10overflow of a life that has been faithfully shaped
- 20:13by the Master's hands. As we bring this journey
- 20:19to its end, there is one final truth that ties
- 20:22every episode together. It is the truth that
- 20:26has quietly echoed through Joseph's prison, Moses'
- 20:29wilderness, Esther's palace, Daniel's Babylon,
- 20:33Paul's hidden years, Peter's restoration, and
- 20:37ultimately the cross of Christ. It is the reason
- 20:41we can trust God even when we do not understand
- 20:44his process. Because once you understand the
- 20:47purpose of the forge, you no longer fear the
- 20:51fire. You begin to trust. the hands of the Master
- 20:55who is holding you in it. As we come to the end
- 21:00of this journey, I find myself returning to the
- 21:02question that started it all. Why does God forge
- 21:06His servants before entrusting them with their
- 21:08assignment? After walking through the lives of
- 21:11Joseph, Moses, Esther, Daniel, Paul, Peter, and
- 21:16finally standing at the foot of the cross, I
- 21:19believe the answer has become beautifully clear.
- 21:22God's highest priority has never been the assignment.
- 21:26His highest priority has always been the servant.
- 21:31Before he entrusts influence, he forms character.
- 21:35Before he enlarges responsibility, he deepens
- 21:38dependence. Before he builds a ministry, he shapes
- 21:42a heart that reflects his son. Looking back now,
- 21:47I realize that every prison had a purpose. Every
- 21:50wilderness carried a lesson. Every hidden season
- 21:54concealed a work that human eyes could not yet
- 21:57see. Every disappointment exposed another opportunity
- 22:01to trust God more deeply. And even every surrendered
- 22:05failure became another instrument in the Master's
- 22:09hands. None of those seasons were accidental.
- 22:13None of them were evidence that God had forgotten
- 22:16his promise. None of them meant that heaven had
- 22:20abandoned the assignment. They were all part
- 22:23of the same loving process. The Forge. I have
- 22:27also realized something else. Perhaps the greatest
- 22:31evidence that God is preparing us is not that
- 22:35our circumstances are changing quickly. Perhaps
- 22:38the greatest evidence is that we are changing
- 22:41while our circumstances remain the same. When
- 22:45peace begins replacing anxiety, When humility
- 22:48begins replacing pride. When forgiveness begins
- 22:52replacing bitterness. When faith begins replacing
- 22:56fear. When our confidence rests more in Christ
- 23:00than in ourselves. The Forge is accomplishing
- 23:04exactly what God intended. That is a miracle
- 23:07no promotion can produce. No platform can manufacture
- 23:11it. No amount of human recognition can substitute
- 23:15for it. Only the Holy Spirit patiently working
- 23:19through surrendered lives can accomplish such
- 23:22transformation. And perhaps one day, when we
- 23:25finally stand in the presence of the Lord, we
- 23:28will look back over every chapter we once questioned
- 23:32and discover that the moments we were most tempted
- 23:35to call interruptions were actually some of God's
- 23:39greatest acts of preparation. We may discover
- 23:43that the prison protected us. that the wilderness
- 23:47taught us, that Babylon strengthened us, that
- 23:51the hidden years rooted us, that failure humbled
- 23:55us, and that the cross gave eternal meaning to
- 23:59every forge we would ever walk through. Because
- 24:03from the beginning of this series until this
- 24:05final conversation, One truth has echoed through
- 24:09every page of scripture. God never wastes the
- 24:12forge. But I think there is one final truth that
- 24:16is even more beautiful. God never wastes the
- 24:20servant. If you belong to Christ, your story
- 24:23is not being written by chance. It is not being
- 24:27directed by your enemies. It is not determined
- 24:30by your disappointments. It is not defined by
- 24:34your failures. Your story is being written by
- 24:38the hands of a faithful father who sees the end
- 24:42from the beginning and who is able to weave every
- 24:45surrendered chapter into a testimony that reflects
- 24:49his glory. That does not mean every season will
- 24:53be easy. It does not mean every question will
- 24:57receive an immediate answer. But it does mean
- 25:00that every season has purpose. Because every
- 25:04season rests in the hands of the master. So wherever
- 25:08you are today, whether you are living in your
- 25:12prison, walking through your wilderness, standing
- 25:16in your Babylon, waiting in your hidden years,
- 25:20recovering from failure, or carrying a cross
- 25:23you never expected to bear, do not lose heart.
- 25:28The forge is not your enemy. The master is not
- 25:31against you. He is preparing you not simply for
- 25:35something you will do But for someone you are
- 25:38becoming and when his work is complete You will
- 25:42discover that the greatest miracle was never
- 25:44the assignment itself The greatest miracle was
- 25:48the person his grace transformed along the way
- 25:51So keep trusting him keep following him keep
- 25:54surrendering to him Because the one who began
- 25:57a good work in you is faithful and he will bring
- 26:01it To completion, until next time, may your faith
- 26:05grow stronger, may your family grow deeper in
- 26:08Christ, may your purpose become clearer with
- 26:11every step of obedience, and may you never forget
- 26:15the forge is temporary, but what God is producing
- 26:20through it will last for eternity. Thank you
- 26:25for walking with me through this journey. This
- 26:28has been forged for your future assignment. And
- 26:32remember, one conversation, one story, one revelation
- 26:38at a time.
