- 0:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: Ah, the joy of sitting up here is uh
- 0:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: I get to see people coming in the back door.
- 0:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: And I noticed that we had about ten, twelve people that came in
- 0:13Pastor Dale Tunnell: after
- 0:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: Meet and greet
- 0:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: after
- 0:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: the announcements
- 0:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: That means two things need to happen at uh
- 0:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: the service today.
- 0:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: Uh
- 0:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: if
- 0:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: you stand
- 0:29Pastor Dale Tunnell: up and you see people you didn't meet and greet earlier, you need to meet and greet them at the end.
- 0:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: Do you understand?
- 0:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: It's okay?
- 0:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: To have meet and greet to begin and the end?
- 0:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: Oh, okay.
- 0:44Pastor Dale Tunnell: Secondly, some of the announcements.
- 0:45Pastor Dale Tunnell: If you show up here next week
- 0:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: You're going to be severely disappointed.
- 0:53Pastor Dale Tunnell: Because the doors will be locked
- 0:56Pastor Dale Tunnell: So that gives you an option.
- 0:58Pastor Dale Tunnell: You'd either sit out there and wait for other people that show up and then you have Sabbath school in church with a few that uh
- 1:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: want to sit out there and sit under the shade and
- 1:07Pastor Dale Tunnell: uh
- 1:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: have worship together.
- 1:09Pastor Dale Tunnell: That is acceptable.
- 1:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: The alternative is you can then go
- 1:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: or you can go see the signs, realize you forgot the announcements, and you can go to outdoor church
- 1:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: Which is going to take place at Red Mountain Park.
- 1:25Pastor Dale Tunnell: So
- 1:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: don't come here next week.
- 1:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: Red Mountain Park, 10 o'clock.
- 1:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: Okay.
- 1:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: What time?
- 1:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: Okay.
- 1:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: The following Sabbath
- 1:41Pastor Dale Tunnell: That's October 10.
- 1:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: We're going to have a special induction ceremony for our Pathfinders as part of our worship service.
- 1:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: So we're looking forward to that
- 1:51Pastor Dale Tunnell: Uh
- 1:51Pastor Dale Tunnell: October 23
- 1:53Pastor Dale Tunnell: and 24, we are having
- 1:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: some of you that were here for announcements, we're having
- 1:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: what?
- 2:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: Pioneer
- 2:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: Sabbath.
- 2:01Pastor Dale Tunnell: Yeah, Pioneer Sabbath.
- 2:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: That's a Friday night
- 2:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: and Sabbath.
- 2:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: Uh
- 2:07Pastor Dale Tunnell: we're having
- 2:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: special
- 2:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: programming that's taking place
- 2:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: because we we have it usually pioneer sabbath around october twenty two
- 2:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: because you know what happened then
- 2:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: right
- 2:21Pastor Dale Tunnell: October
- 2:21Pastor Dale Tunnell: twenty two
- 2:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: is anticipation day.
- 2:24Pastor Dale Tunnell: They were looking forward to the second coming of Jesus Christ
- 2:29Pastor Dale Tunnell: with eager anticipation.
- 2:30Pastor Dale Tunnell: The twenty-third
- 2:31Pastor Dale Tunnell: was a disappointment.
- 2:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: Because
- 2:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: he did not arrive on the 22nd.
- 2:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: So
- 2:38Pastor Dale Tunnell: we usually have it around that time.
- 2:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: Gives us an opportunity to refresh ourselves with Adventist history.
- 2:45Pastor Dale Tunnell: And so
- 2:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: we uh
- 2:47Pastor Dale Tunnell: enjoy
- 2:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: looking forward to that event.
- 2:50Pastor Dale Tunnell: So I hope you will be here for that.
- 2:52Pastor Dale Tunnell: The Sabbath
- 2:53Pastor Dale Tunnell: after that.
- 2:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: We are having Pastor Michael Morehouse here.
- 2:58Pastor Dale Tunnell: That's October 30
- 3:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: and 31.
- 3:01Pastor Dale Tunnell: He will also be here the next Sabbath
- 3:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: as well.
- 3:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: He's got some exciting programs he's going to share with us,
- 3:07Pastor Dale Tunnell: exciting messages, and I think you will want to bring your friends and neighbors to that.
- 3:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: Next week, I hope we have invitations to give to you so that you can share them with your friends and neighbors.
- 3:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: Because October 30
- 3:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: is especially relevant.
- 3:24Pastor Dale Tunnell: for
- 3:25Pastor Dale Tunnell: uh Reformation Day, the 31st, especially relevant.
- 3:29Pastor Dale Tunnell: Aliens, Angels, and the Afterlife.
- 3:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: So
- 3:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: uh
- 3:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: Get an invitation
- 3:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: and
- 3:38Pastor Dale Tunnell: be praying now
- 3:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: for who you will
- 3:41Pastor Dale Tunnell: invite.
- 3:45Pastor Dale Tunnell: I'll stop there.
- 3:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: Oh no, I shouldn't stop there.
- 3:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: And the week after that, that's November 14, if you're following along, November, October 31.
- 3:56Pastor Dale Tunnell: uh
- 3:56Pastor Dale Tunnell: November seven
- 3:58Pastor Dale Tunnell: and then November fourteenth, we are going to have some grief training for us.
- 4:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: So we'll have a special
- 4:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: uh
- 4:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: Presenters
- 4:07Pastor Dale Tunnell: here,
- 4:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: Nicholas will be here to share with us
- 4:11Pastor Dale Tunnell: about how
- 4:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: we can minister to people
- 4:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: that have
- 4:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: Have
- 4:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: suffered grief.
- 4:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: And uh
- 4:19Pastor Dale Tunnell: some of us
- 4:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: need to be ministered too.
- 4:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: I know many of you have suffered
- 4:25Pastor Dale Tunnell: Loss
- 4:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: in the last
- 4:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: few months.
- 4:30Pastor Dale Tunnell: Putting
- 4:31Pastor Dale Tunnell: together some groups so that we can encourage one another, how we can process grief in our life.
- 4:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: So I hope that these uh
- 4:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: it it it's an it
- 4:41Pastor Dale Tunnell: fall gets busy, doesn't it?
- 4:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: I mean
- 4:44Pastor Dale Tunnell: just one event after the other.
- 4:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: So uh things that we can look forward to coming up.
- 4:51Pastor Dale Tunnell: All right, um
- 4:55Pastor Dale Tunnell: last
- 4:56Pastor Dale Tunnell: year
- 4:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: when
- 4:58Pastor Dale Tunnell: I
- 5:01Pastor Dale Tunnell: Was
- 5:01Pastor Dale Tunnell: still in
- 5:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: Vietnam.
- 5:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: The church there decided that they were going to read the Bible through.
- 5:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: And that
- 5:11Pastor Dale Tunnell: every month there were going to be, there was going to be a quiz
- 5:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: given
- 5:19Pastor Dale Tunnell: They uh
- 5:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: were not in the habit of reading their Bible regularly, so we thought this was going to to motivate them.
- 5:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: And the prizes
- 5:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: given for
- 5:29Pastor Dale Tunnell: for answering the questions.
- 5:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: were
- 5:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: going to be significant prizes.
- 5:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: And
- 5:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: so
- 5:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: they
- 5:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: began reading in Genesis
- 5:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: X
- 5:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: Exodus
- 5:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: and quiz time came the first month.
- 5:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: And
- 5:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: evidently
- 5:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: the questions I wrote were a little bit too difficult.
- 5:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: Do you like difficult questions?
- 5:59Pastor Dale Tunnell: I thought
- 5:59Pastor Dale Tunnell: it
- 6:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: depends on if you know the answers, right?
- 6:02Pastor Dale Tunnell: I thought uh for me I was writing easy questions.
- 6:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: One of the reasons why I thought it was easy questions is because I grew up
- 6:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: reading the Bible
- 6:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: And then I thought they were easier questions
- 6:17Pastor Dale Tunnell: because
- 6:17Pastor Dale Tunnell: Cheryl and I, we read through the Bible every year.
- 6:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: with
- 6:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: our
- 6:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: when our children were young, we read through the Bible with them, different versions every year, so it sounded different.
- 6:29Pastor Dale Tunnell: They weren't just hearing the the same way, the same
- 6:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: style
- 6:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: and things
- 6:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: and then
- 6:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: So
- 6:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: I thought the questions that I was asking were fairly easy questions.
- 6:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: The people
- 6:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: answering the questions weren't so sure.
- 6:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: And
- 6:51Pastor Dale Tunnell: so they were happy when I left.
- 6:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: And the Vietnamese pastor began to ask the questions.
- 6:59Pastor Dale Tunnell: Because he understood his congregation a little bit better than I did.
- 7:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: And
- 7:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: uh
- 7:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: th
- 7:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: but that only lasted a month and then they
- 7:09Pastor Dale Tunnell: he said
- 7:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: people stopped reading
- 7:13Pastor Dale Tunnell: Do you know what happens if you stop reading?
- 7:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: You stop
- 7:17Pastor Dale Tunnell: learning.
- 7:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: You stop growing.
- 7:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: If I was going to
- 7:24Pastor Dale Tunnell: this last month, we uh
- 7:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: I guess it was this month
- 7:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: still, listened
- 7:30Pastor Dale Tunnell: we were listening to the Bible this time.
- 7:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: And
- 7:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: there's a story in there that
- 7:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: seems like every time
- 7:38Pastor Dale Tunnell: I read it, I say, oh
- 7:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: yeah, I can never remember their name.
- 7:44Pastor Dale Tunnell: But there were a group of people in Jeremiah chapter 35.
- 7:51Pastor Dale Tunnell: That Jeremiah was encouraged.
- 7:52Pastor Dale Tunnell: The Lord said, Invite them to come to the temple.
- 7:55Pastor Dale Tunnell: And set
- 7:56Pastor Dale Tunnell: some bowls of wine in front of them, and invite them to drink with you
- 8:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: there at the temple
- 8:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: And so Jeremiah invited this group of people to the temple
- 8:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: and to, and he set the bowls in front of them there at the table.
- 8:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: And they sat down to fellowship together, and he encouraged them, drink.
- 8:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: Do you guys know who these people are?
- 8:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: Have you turned to
- 8:25Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jeremiah 35 yet to find it?
- 8:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: Anybody know who they are?
- 8:31Pastor Dale Tunnell: Who are they?
- 8:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: I can't remember their name, but it was
- 8:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: the family that didn't drink.
- 8:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: The family that didn't drink, there you go.
- 8:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: Uh
- 8:38Pastor Dale Tunnell: it was the Rekabites.
- 8:41Pastor Dale Tunnell: And there were three other things that they did not do
- 8:44Pastor Dale Tunnell: as well.
- 8:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: It says that they
- 8:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: did
- 8:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: not
- 8:50Pastor Dale Tunnell: build houses or live in a house that was built.
- 8:55Pastor Dale Tunnell: It says that they did not plant
- 8:58Pastor Dale Tunnell: seed.
- 9:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: And it says that they did not grow vineyards
- 9:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: You begin thinking about this and wondering why did they not drink?
- 9:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: Why did they not live in houses?
- 9:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: Why did they not plant seed?
- 9:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: Why did they not grow vineyards?
- 9:19Pastor Dale Tunnell: And
- 9:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: the explanation that they give is
- 9:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: because
- 9:24Pastor Dale Tunnell: their
- 9:25Pastor Dale Tunnell: father, grandfather
- 9:30Pastor Dale Tunnell: Had spoken to them those words
- 9:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: and encouraged them not to do that.
- 9:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: Now, if they do not drink wine, that's okay.
- 9:38Pastor Dale Tunnell: There's plenty of other things to drink.
- 9:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: Why, right?
- 9:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: Yeah.
- 9:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: If they do not live in houses, that means they get to
- 9:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: live in tents and be nomads.
- 9:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: If they do not plant seed, that means they get to
- 9:55Pastor Dale Tunnell: Take care of
- 9:56Pastor Dale Tunnell: livestock.
- 10:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: A lot of people were living by taking care of life
- 10:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: livestock and not the agriculture
- 10:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: kind.
- 10:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: So that means that they were the kind that would
- 10:09Pastor Dale Tunnell: Take care of livestock
- 10:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: or other things that did not require the planting of seed.
- 10:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: And they did not grow vineyards.
- 10:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: Because
- 10:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: their
- 10:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: grandfather, father, had spoken words to them and encouraged them to
- 10:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: take this
- 10:29Pastor Dale Tunnell: vow
- 10:31Pastor Dale Tunnell: To
- 10:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: take this
- 10:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: promise.
- 10:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: And they were very strong about it.
- 10:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: And God told Jeremiah, he said.
- 10:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: This
- 10:41Pastor Dale Tunnell: is the kind of people
- 10:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: that I want
- 10:44Pastor Dale Tunnell: to follow me
- 10:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: Because they are very
- 10:50Pastor Dale Tunnell: strong
- 10:51Pastor Dale Tunnell: with their
- 10:52Pastor Dale Tunnell: commitment
- 10:53Pastor Dale Tunnell: and their
- 10:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: vow
- 10:59Pastor Dale Tunnell: Are you strong with your commitments and vows?
- 11:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: Sometimes when you you you
- 11:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: you go and you visit people and you you see people that are in the hospital and you
- 11:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: you know that people are on their deathbed.
- 11:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: They they they ask their children, they
- 11:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: They they speak to their children and their grandchildren and you can hear them talking about
- 11:19Pastor Dale Tunnell: and
- 11:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: and the grandchildren or the the children making promises.
- 11:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: Yes, I will
- 11:25Pastor Dale Tunnell: I will do such and such.
- 11:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: I will take care of
- 11:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: mom.
- 11:29Pastor Dale Tunnell: I will make sure that
- 11:31Pastor Dale Tunnell: I
- 11:31Pastor Dale Tunnell: will
- 11:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: not
- 11:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: do such a thing.
- 11:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: I
- 11:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: will, and
- 11:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: while the person
- 11:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: is on their deathbed, while they they believe that they are dying, they
- 11:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: they can get promises out of the family.
- 11:50Pastor Dale Tunnell: And
- 11:50Pastor Dale Tunnell: sometimes the family
- 11:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: upholds the promises.
- 11:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: Sometimes
- 11:58Pastor Dale Tunnell: the family
- 11:59Pastor Dale Tunnell: Ye
- 12:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: a spouse will say, Why did you make such a promise?
- 12:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: Well, they were dying there.
- 12:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: They're not going to know what I do anyway.
- 12:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: I can just do whatever I want, but I had to tell them something that would
- 12:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: would bring them comfort to them.
- 12:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: And they go and do whatever
- 12:13Pastor Dale Tunnell: their
- 12:13Pastor Dale Tunnell: spouse wants
- 12:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: them to do or whatever the family wants them to do
- 12:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: and they do not
- 12:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: keep their promises.
- 12:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: What kind of
- 12:25Pastor Dale Tunnell: things do we do
- 12:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: when it comes to our promises?
- 12:30Pastor Dale Tunnell: Things that that we are
- 12:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: are encouraged to do.
- 12:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: How do we
- 12:38Pastor Dale Tunnell: honor
- 12:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: our loved ones?
- 12:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: The ones that
- 12:44Pastor Dale Tunnell: are
- 12:45Pastor Dale Tunnell: the desire of our heart, the ones that we care about
- 12:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: About
- 12:55Pastor Dale Tunnell: our
- 12:55Pastor Dale Tunnell: scripture reading today came from
- 12:58Pastor Dale Tunnell: Luke
- 13:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: chapter twenty-two.
- 13:11Pastor Dale Tunnell: Luke Twenty
- 13:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: Two
- 13:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: I know you just heard it, but I want you to hear it again.
- 13:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: Luke 22, beginning in verse 17
- 13:24Pastor Dale Tunnell: Says
- 13:24Pastor Dale Tunnell: then he took the cup and gave them thanks and said, Take this and divide it among yourselves, for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.
- 13:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: What's he
- 13:41Pastor Dale Tunnell: saying with those words?
- 13:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: I will not drink it till what?
- 13:47Pastor Dale Tunnell: The kingdom of God comes
- 13:51Pastor Dale Tunnell: You
- 13:52Pastor Dale Tunnell: think about what what he's saying there.
- 13:53Pastor Dale Tunnell: It says in verse 19, and then he took bread and and gave thanks and broke it and gave it to them, saying, This is my body, which is
- 14:01Pastor Dale Tunnell: Given for you.
- 14:02Pastor Dale Tunnell: Do
- 14:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: this in remembrance of me.
- 14:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: Likewise
- 14:07Pastor Dale Tunnell: he also took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is a new covenant in my blood, which is shed for you
- 14:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: He asked them to do something special
- 14:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: in
- 14:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: remembrance of him.
- 14:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: As followers of Jesus, as as Christians, we don't have a
- 14:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: How do I say this?
- 14:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: We don't have a
- 14:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: a holy city that we go to
- 14:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: to
- 14:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: make
- 14:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: pilgrimages to.
- 14:45Pastor Dale Tunnell: To honor
- 14:47Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus.
- 14:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: We don't have to go to the
- 14:51Pastor Dale Tunnell: temple in Jerusalem.
- 14:53Pastor Dale Tunnell: We don't have to go to to
- 14:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: birthplace of Bethlehem.
- 14:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: We don't have to go to outside the city of Jerusalem where
- 15:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: where the cross of Jesus was.
- 15:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: We don't have to make a pilgrimage there.
- 15:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: in our in our lifetime in order to to show our respect, in order to
- 15:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: to show how much
- 15:11Pastor Dale Tunnell: we
- 15:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: love
- 15:13Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus.
- 15:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: In fact, as
- 15:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: as Christians, as
- 15:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: as Protestant Christians,
- 15:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: we don't even
- 15:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: put
- 15:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: up
- 15:25Pastor Dale Tunnell: an image
- 15:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: Like like
- 15:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: a cross.
- 15:29Pastor Dale Tunnell: We don't put that up so that we come and and bow down to it.
- 15:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: We're not uh bending the knee.
- 15:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: We're not
- 15:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: we're not making the sign of the cross.
- 15:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: We're not
- 15:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: we
- 15:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: we don't make those kind of images
- 15:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: so that you come to it
- 15:44Pastor Dale Tunnell: in order to
- 15:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: worship it.
- 15:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: Because of our our
- 15:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: understanding of what Scripture says.
- 15:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus didn't ask us to
- 16:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: well, he didn't ask his
- 16:02Pastor Dale Tunnell: disciples to
- 16:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: to
- 16:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: make
- 16:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: fish, wooden fish, and to to wear it as a as a bracelet
- 16:11Pastor Dale Tunnell: in order to
- 16:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: to show how much they
- 16:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: they love
- 16:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: him
- 16:17Pastor Dale Tunnell: He didn't ask them to
- 16:19Pastor Dale Tunnell: to make a cross and to to
- 16:21Pastor Dale Tunnell: to wear it on their ears in order to show how much they love
- 16:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: him.
- 16:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: Instead, here in Luke, it's recorded, it says
- 16:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: what he told them to do, he says, do
- 16:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: this
- 16:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: in remembrance of
- 16:38Pastor Dale Tunnell: me.
- 16:41Pastor Dale Tunnell: What he gave to his
- 16:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: disciples, what he gave to his followers, was not a
- 16:47Pastor Dale Tunnell: place to go, was not
- 16:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: something
- 16:50Pastor Dale Tunnell: that uh that that they wear
- 16:52Pastor Dale Tunnell: was not something that they
- 16:53Pastor Dale Tunnell: they
- 16:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: they
- 16:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: put on the the front of their house or
- 16:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: their
- 16:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: their worship place.
- 16:59Pastor Dale Tunnell: It was a service that they were to perform.
- 17:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: To remind them
- 17:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: about
- 17:09Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus, to remind them
- 17:13Pastor Dale Tunnell: who they
- 17:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: were.
- 17:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: To remind them
- 17:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: of their responsibility
- 17:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus knew he was dying.
- 17:30Pastor Dale Tunnell: He could already feel his
- 17:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: life
- 17:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: being crushed.
- 17:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: When he asked them to do this in remembrance of me.
- 17:45Pastor Dale Tunnell: And as he was dying, the
- 17:47Pastor Dale Tunnell: as he was there giving them this
- 17:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: the service.
- 17:53Pastor Dale Tunnell: They
- 17:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: were
- 17:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: arguing amongst themselves
- 17:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: about
- 17:58Pastor Dale Tunnell: who was going to be the greatest.
- 18:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: About who was going to have things their way.
- 18:09Pastor Dale Tunnell: Why do we do that?
- 18:13Pastor Dale Tunnell: Why is it that we want things our
- 18:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: way?
- 18:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: We think our
- 18:19Pastor Dale Tunnell: way is
- 18:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: is
- 18:21Pastor Dale Tunnell: the best
- 18:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: way.
- 18:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: We think
- 18:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: others need to do it
- 18:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: like
- 18:30Pastor Dale Tunnell: we think it ought to be done
- 18:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: We
- 18:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: find arguments about music and worship style
- 18:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: and church structure
- 18:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: and
- 18:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: children's programming and I could go on and on.
- 18:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: On
- 18:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: and on
- 18:47Pastor Dale Tunnell: about
- 18:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: the things that we
- 18:52Pastor Dale Tunnell: argue
- 18:53Pastor Dale Tunnell: about in church.
- 18:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: Turn over in your Bible.
- 19:01Pastor Dale Tunnell: John.
- 19:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: Same story
- 19:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: as there in Luke, but different writer
- 19:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: John
- 19:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: chapter
- 19:11Pastor Dale Tunnell: 13
- 19:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: says
- 19:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: before the feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his
- 19:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: hour had come
- 19:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: That he was going to depart from the world to the Father, having loved his own, who were in the world, he loved them to the end
- 19:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: Come down to verse four.
- 19:29Pastor Dale Tunnell: He rose from supper and laid aside his garments, took a towel, and girded
- 19:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: himself, and after that he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel.
- 19:41Pastor Dale Tunnell: Which he was girded.
- 19:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: He decided to give them
- 19:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: a service
- 19:51Pastor Dale Tunnell: He
- 19:52Pastor Dale Tunnell: decided to give them a visual demonstration
- 19:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: of what it meant to be a follower of Jesus, of what it meant to be part of the kingdom of God.
- 20:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: A visual demonstration of what it meant to submit
- 20:09Pastor Dale Tunnell: to one another.
- 20:11Pastor Dale Tunnell: A visual demonstration of what it meant to
- 20:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: Serve
- 20:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: one another
- 20:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: while they were sitting there waiting for someone to do this
- 20:21Pastor Dale Tunnell: act
- 20:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: of service.
- 20:24Pastor Dale Tunnell: waiting for someone to get up and to
- 20:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: wash the disciples'
- 20:28Pastor Dale Tunnell: feet, Jesus took it upon himself.
- 20:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: To
- 20:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: accomplish what none of them wanted to do
- 20:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: because
- 20:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: they
- 20:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: did not want to be a servant.
- 20:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: They wanted to be
- 20:45Pastor Dale Tunnell: the greatest
- 20:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: in the kingdom of God.
- 20:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: And as the greatest, they wanted to be
- 20:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: The one who told people who was going to serve.
- 20:59Pastor Dale Tunnell: Not the one that was willing to serve.
- 21:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: But Jesus got up from the table and
- 21:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: girded himself.
- 21:07Pastor Dale Tunnell: He demonstrates to the disciples.
- 21:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: He demonstrates to us.
- 21:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: What he has in mind.
- 21:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: Servanthood.
- 21:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: John
- 21:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: chapter 13.
- 21:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: I'm going to come down to verse 12
- 21:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: When he had washed their feet, taken his garments, and sat down again, he said to them,
- 21:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: Do you know what I have done to you?
- 21:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: You call me teacher
- 21:38Pastor Dale Tunnell: and lord, and you say
- 21:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: well, for so I am.
- 21:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: If I then
- 21:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: your Lord and teacher
- 21:44Pastor Dale Tunnell: have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's
- 21:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: feet
- 21:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: Feet, for I have given you an example that you should do as
- 21:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: I have done to you.
- 21:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus set them an example.
- 22:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: One that
- 22:01Pastor Dale Tunnell: they
- 22:02Pastor Dale Tunnell: were supposed to
- 22:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: follow, submitting themselves
- 22:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: to the other.
- 22:13Pastor Dale Tunnell: Can you
- 22:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: imagine
- 22:15Pastor Dale Tunnell: what they thought
- 22:17Pastor Dale Tunnell: when
- 22:18Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus told them to do this?
- 22:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: James and John
- 22:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: asking to sit at the right and left of Jesus.
- 22:31Pastor Dale Tunnell: I mean when Jesus tells them that they sh
- 22:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: need to wash the other disciples'
- 22:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: feet, my guess is
- 22:37Pastor Dale Tunnell: uh
- 22:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: There
- 22:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: was a big breath, a lump in their throat that they were trying to
- 22:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: swallow
- 22:51Pastor Dale Tunnell: When Peter heard this, I'm sure the
- 22:56Pastor Dale Tunnell: thought passed through his mind.
- 23:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: Really?
- 23:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: You want me to wash
- 23:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: these
- 23:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: disciples'
- 23:07Pastor Dale Tunnell: feet?
- 23:09Pastor Dale Tunnell: Me
- 23:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: Verse
- 23:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: 16
- 23:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: Most assuredly I say to you: a servant is not greater than his master, nor is he who is sent
- 23:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: greater than he who
- 23:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: sent him.
- 23:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: If you know these things, blessed are you
- 23:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: if
- 23:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: you
- 23:41Pastor Dale Tunnell: do
- 23:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: them.
- 23:45Pastor Dale Tunnell: The Seventh day Adventist Church, we desire to follow
- 23:49Pastor Dale Tunnell: the example of Jesus.
- 23:52Pastor Dale Tunnell: We desire to
- 23:53Pastor Dale Tunnell: be submissive.
- 23:55Pastor Dale Tunnell: To one another, to serve one another.
- 23:59Pastor Dale Tunnell: And we invite and encourage our members and
- 24:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: others that worship with us to do likewise.
- 24:07Pastor Dale Tunnell: Because
- 24:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: this
- 24:09Pastor Dale Tunnell: is
- 24:10Pastor Dale Tunnell: the radical
- 24:11Pastor Dale Tunnell: love of
- 24:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus Christ
- 24:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: We do
- 24:17Pastor Dale Tunnell: this in memory of
- 24:21Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus.
- 24:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: His dying wish, desiring
- 24:31Pastor Dale Tunnell: us
- 24:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: to serve
- 24:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: one
- 24:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: another.
- 24:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: Blessed are you
- 24:42Pastor Dale Tunnell: if you do them
- 24:45Pastor Dale Tunnell: Seventh-day Adventists practice what is known as open communion.
- 24:50Pastor Dale Tunnell: This means that you don't have to be a Seventh-day Adventist in order to join with us.
- 24:55Pastor Dale Tunnell: In fact, if you believe in Jesus Christ, if you've accepted him as your Lord and Savior, we not only want you to
- 25:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: stay and to watch and to
- 25:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: learn, we invite you to participate
- 25:07Pastor Dale Tunnell: To experience
- 25:09Pastor Dale Tunnell: the joy of
- 25:11Pastor Dale Tunnell: this service.
- 25:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: This is a joyful service
- 25:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: In just a few minutes, we're going to separate.
- 25:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: And we invite you to
- 25:21Pastor Dale Tunnell: find a partner, someone that you can wash their feet.
- 25:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: We're going to separate.
- 25:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: The
- 25:27Pastor Dale Tunnell: the women are going to go out the doors and turn to the right and go down over here to the fellowship hall
- 25:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: and and find a partner
- 25:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: and
- 25:34Pastor Dale Tunnell: and wash one another's feet.
- 25:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: The men are going to go out and and go to the left and go down the hallway and they're
- 25:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: There's a a room that is marked for the men to wash one another's feet.
- 25:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: There's a room that is marked for couples or for families
- 25:46Pastor Dale Tunnell: where they can go and and
- 25:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: to wash one another's feet.
- 25:52Pastor Dale Tunnell: Friends, this is an opportunity for us to
- 25:55Pastor Dale Tunnell: demonstrate our
- 25:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: submissiveness, our willingness
- 26:01Pastor Dale Tunnell: to serve
- 26:02Pastor Dale Tunnell: one another.
- 26:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: This is an opportunity for us to
- 26:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: experience
- 26:09Pastor Dale Tunnell: what the disciples experienced
- 26:12Pastor Dale Tunnell: Having their feet washed, and Jesus told them, you
- 26:16Pastor Dale Tunnell: are clean.
- 26:19Pastor Dale Tunnell: I
- 26:19Pastor Dale Tunnell: like to call this experience a
- 26:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: mini-baptism.
- 26:25Pastor Dale Tunnell: Sometimes I have Adventists that ask me, can I be rebaptized?
- 26:29Pastor Dale Tunnell: And there's an opportunity for rebaptism, a place for rebaptism.
- 26:33Pastor Dale Tunnell: But more than that, I said, just celebrate communion.
- 26:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: It's a mini-baptism where
- 26:39Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus cleanses you.
- 26:41Pastor Dale Tunnell: Oh, it's a beautiful service to have you
- 26:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: Your feet washed, and to know that Jesus is saying, You
- 26:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: are clean.
- 26:52Pastor Dale Tunnell: Oh, that should have been louder.
- 26:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus saying to you, you are
- 26:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: clean.
- 26:59Pastor Dale Tunnell: Yeah.
- 27:00Pastor Dale Tunnell: Well, how beautiful is that.
- 27:03Pastor Dale Tunnell: And then we come back into this room and we partake.
- 27:05Pastor Dale Tunnell: Of the
- 27:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: bread and
- 27:07Pastor Dale Tunnell: the grape juice.
- 27:11Pastor Dale Tunnell: Oh, the bread representing Jesus'
- 27:13Pastor Dale Tunnell: body that's broken for us.
- 27:14Pastor Dale Tunnell: The grape juice representing his blood that is
- 27:17Pastor Dale Tunnell: spilled for us.
- 27:19Pastor Dale Tunnell: Oh, how beautiful is that.
- 27:23Pastor Dale Tunnell: A service
- 27:24Pastor Dale Tunnell: that we have
- 27:26Pastor Dale Tunnell: in memory of
- 27:30Pastor Dale Tunnell: Jesus.
- 27:32Pastor Dale Tunnell: Reminding ourselves that we are
- 27:35Pastor Dale Tunnell: are following his
- 27:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: example.
- 27:36Pastor Dale Tunnell: Reminding ourselves that Jesus is not going to do this again
- 27:40Pastor Dale Tunnell: until he does it with us in in heaven.
- 27:43Pastor Dale Tunnell: Reminding ourselves
- 27:45Pastor Dale Tunnell: Of the gift of Jesus
- 27:48Pastor Dale Tunnell: on the cross, dying
- 27:54Pastor Dale Tunnell: in our
- 27:55Pastor Dale Tunnell: place
- 27:57Pastor Dale Tunnell: Dying
- 27:58Pastor Dale Tunnell: so that we could have eternal life.
- 28:01Pastor Dale Tunnell: Friends, we invite you to
- 28:04Pastor Dale Tunnell: celebrate with us
- 28:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: as we
- 28:06Pastor Dale Tunnell: Participate in this
- 28:08Pastor Dale Tunnell: the ordinance of humility, if you want to call it this, the footwashing service, as we come back and celebrate this communion service together, as it unites us together.
- 28:20Pastor Dale Tunnell: As the body of Christ.
- 28:22Pastor Dale Tunnell: I invite you to stand
- 28:24Pastor Dale Tunnell: and we will separate at this time
