- 1:31Speaker 2: We're back.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Kevin's back.
- 1:32Speaker 5: There you go, Kevin.
- 1:35Speaker 1: That's enough, all right anyway, So it's good to have
- 1:38Speaker 1: him back. Yeah whatever.
- 1:40Speaker 5: Good to see you again too.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Yeah whatever.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And look he looks like he's slept.
- 1:44Speaker 1: You do look a little refreshed up. I'm just kidding.
- 1:46Speaker 1: You did have twins first time you been back in
- 1:48Speaker 1: two weeks and I don't know what's up.
- 1:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 6: Actually, to your point, Eddie, a lot of people have
- 1:53Speaker 6: said that, like when we go to the doctor or
- 1:56Speaker 6: it's somebody like coming back here today, people are like, dude,
- 1:58Speaker 6: you don't have like bags on your eyes. Okay, and
- 2:00Speaker 6: the number one thing, help help.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Help your parents.
- 2:04Speaker 5: Yeah, like the night shifts.
- 2:06Speaker 6: Those suck, but during the day we could take naps
- 2:09Speaker 6: for a couple hours because they can watch the kids.
- 2:12Speaker 6: My mom is still here. Her mom leaves today, but
- 2:15Speaker 6: they've been here for two weeks.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Dude, that's when it gets real.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, well, we'll get a full play by play coming up.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I want to know, like what it was like looking
- 2:26Speaker 1: at him when it comes out all of that. I
- 2:28Speaker 1: want to full play.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Go to the video. I got a video.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Yeah, we can put it up.
- 2:35Speaker 2: I'm good with him. We don't want to see that, Bobby.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Sports, So we'll come back and get to that. In
- 2:46Speaker 1: case there are new listeners who just don't want to
- 2:47Speaker 1: hear about Kevin having a baby, we'll put that at
- 2:49Speaker 1: the end of the show.
- 2:51Speaker 2: We do.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Don't be disappointed.
- 2:52Speaker 5: I'm just kidding.
- 2:53Speaker 2: They don't want to hear about that.
- 2:54Speaker 1: We do have wait for us at football coach Jake
- 2:56Speaker 1: Dicker coming up. I love the dude, probably because he
- 2:59Speaker 1: listens to the show.
- 3:00Speaker 2: That was pretty awesome.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and and he's like young and he's cool. So
- 3:04Speaker 1: that's coming up in just a little bit. The thing
- 3:06Speaker 1: that makes me laugh at the most. Now, I will
- 3:08Speaker 1: say this first, that Kaitlyn Clark injured a quad and
- 3:10Speaker 1: so she's out for about a month. And there's a
- 3:13Speaker 1: game coming up. It's the Fever and the Chicago Sky
- 3:17Speaker 1: it's Angel Reese's team, and they already had the incident
- 3:19Speaker 1: earlier this year. And by the way, the WNBA was like, yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 1: there's nothing to it, there's nothing racist said, because that
- 3:24Speaker 1: was the whole thing. It was like, oh, we got
- 3:26Speaker 1: racist remarks all during the WABA is like, we investigated
- 3:29Speaker 1: all of it. We saw nothing, phone clips, there's nothing.
- 3:34Speaker 1: But it is a rivalry and Caitlyn's hurt. And so
- 3:39Speaker 1: tickets have gone from like the lowest priced ticket to
- 3:41Speaker 1: being like eighty five bucks to like six dollars.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Oh wow, it's crazy.
- 3:45Speaker 1: It's crazy. Everybody goes with the games because of Kaitlyn's Yeah. Yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 1: And if you know what speaks louder than anything else,
- 3:52Speaker 1: money and how much people are willing to spend. Who's
- 3:54Speaker 1: willing to go. So that being said, this Angel Reese
- 3:59Speaker 1: clip I'm Gonna play is so funny because I've watched
- 4:01Speaker 1: every one of them they've done. It's these guys on
- 4:04Speaker 1: TikTok and they get on and they bet every game
- 4:07Speaker 1: that Angel Reyes plays. They're from at Stadium Live app.
- 4:11Speaker 1: They bet because there's a bet will Angel Reese make
- 4:14Speaker 1: or miss her first shot of the game?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Okay?
- 4:17Speaker 7: Is that?
- 4:19Speaker 2: What is that?
- 4:20Speaker 1: I don't know what the odds are. It can't be
- 4:22Speaker 1: fifty to fifty because the shooting percentage isn't just straight
- 4:24Speaker 1: fifty to fifty. I would bet you the favorite is that
- 4:27Speaker 1: she's going to miss. Yeah, it's like I said, just
- 4:31Speaker 1: playing the odds, not even about her, but about anybody. Yeah,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and so I'm gonna play the fourth one because they've
- 4:37Speaker 1: hit three in a row. By the way, this is
- 4:38Speaker 1: the fourth. I don't know why I think this is
- 4:41Speaker 1: so funny. This is the fourth one. And it's a
- 4:44Speaker 1: split screen and all these four guys are like watching
- 4:46Speaker 1: their TV over on the top and on the bottom
- 4:48Speaker 1: it's Angel Reese and the Chicago Skuy and it's the
- 4:52Speaker 1: start of the game. As she gets the ball underneath
- 4:54Speaker 1: the goal.
- 4:54Speaker 7: Here we go four.
- 5:00Speaker 8: Here it over modulates the phone. Microphone, that's how loud
- 5:16Speaker 8: you're screaming?
- 5:17Speaker 7: So loud?
- 5:18Speaker 5: Good for that. My heart will go on.
- 5:24Speaker 1: She's missed four opening shots in a row. That's worth
- 5:27Speaker 1: hearing a second time. It is because you know what's
- 5:29Speaker 1: about to happen. Now hit it again. Here we go,
- 5:31Speaker 1: maybe more here.
- 5:51Speaker 2: That's great.
- 5:51Speaker 5: We should start doing that.
- 5:52Speaker 1: That's funny. You missed the Wholton Eddie AI controversy.
- 5:57Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, wait controversy.
- 6:00Speaker 2: I mean, have you seen any of the clip?
- 6:01Speaker 5: Legal trouble? Oh no, no, legal trouble. I heard about that,
- 6:09Speaker 5: so I know.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I made a full video.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Wait, we're gonna read, We're gonna relive this again.
- 6:14Speaker 5: Does he turn into something or whatever?
- 6:16Speaker 2: No, okay, he's talking about the heroin Yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Oh where his hair comes out?
- 6:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 6:20Speaker 1: So there is a new program from Google. It's Vo three.
- 6:25Speaker 1: It's the most realistic AI you could ever make. And
- 6:28Speaker 1: I made a promo for the Bobby Cast for those
- 6:30Speaker 1: that are hearing the story again, I apologize, bear with me.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Don't want to apology accepted.
- 6:33Speaker 5: I got new listeners.
- 6:35Speaker 1: So I made a promo for the Bobbycast. The two
- 6:37Speaker 1: cowboys riding horses looks like a movie. It's so realistic.
- 6:40Speaker 1: And I was just showing people that follow me on
- 6:42Speaker 1: social media how realistic it is and how versatile it is.
- 6:46Speaker 1: So then I made a news anchor at a desk
- 6:49Speaker 1: looks as real as can be, and its like I said,
- 6:52Speaker 1: make a British news anchor that tells the new story
- 6:54Speaker 1: of Eddie having a small PP. And so he's at
- 6:57Speaker 1: the desk and he's like this, just in, Eddie has
- 6:58Speaker 1: a small PP and it's so real. But everybody reacted
- 7:03Speaker 1: to it like it was the funniest thing I'd ever done.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Even my in laws in laws.
- 7:08Speaker 7: No.
- 7:08Speaker 1: I posted on Instagram and they were like, we have
- 7:10Speaker 1: to admit we laughed.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Wow, wow.
- 7:12Speaker 1: And so I went to animate a full Your father
- 7:15Speaker 1: in law laughed at that. My mother in law especially, well,
- 7:17Speaker 1: she doesn't laugh at that. She's not low hanging fruit
- 7:19Speaker 1: because she's hilarious, right, and she was like that. She
- 7:21Speaker 1: was like, I laughed, And so I did that video
- 7:25Speaker 1: and then I made three other clips. You can only
- 7:26Speaker 1: do eight seconds at a time because it's so advanced.
- 7:29Speaker 1: So I made a four like a thirty second video
- 7:32Speaker 1: and Eddie said, don't post that. People will think it's
- 7:33Speaker 1: real but it's not, and you know it's not. But
- 7:36Speaker 1: I'll play it for you ready. It's it's just in. Oh, Mike,
- 7:39Speaker 1: you have it. Yeah, Okay, go ahead. This just in
- 7:42Speaker 1: Eddie has a tiny peek. That's good to see. Reporter.
- 7:47Speaker 5: Now it's true. I just saw for myself, Producer.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Eddie is the tiniest adult in America.
- 7:54Speaker 2: There's a Mexican flag on my house.
- 7:55Speaker 7: None of that.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Eddie's in the house.
- 7:58Speaker 5: And I'll prove to the world it's not true.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Talking to my family.
- 8:02Speaker 5: I'll take every measuring device.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Now he's in like a lows with measuring devices. He's
- 8:08Speaker 1: in a parking lot, he says, measurement zone. And he's
- 8:11Speaker 1: got all these devices. And if you look at it
- 8:13Speaker 1: like it looks, it looks so real about He was like,
- 8:20Speaker 1: don't post that. And I was like, okay, but you
- 8:22Speaker 1: think people think it's really goes Yeah, he goes post
- 8:24Speaker 1: it and see the thing it's real And I'm like, well,
- 8:25Speaker 1: you just said don't post it.
- 8:26Speaker 2: How many people thought it was real?
- 8:28Speaker 1: None?
- 8:28Speaker 5: My mom thought it was real.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Actually thought it was funny, not real.
- 8:37Speaker 5: That is hilarious, dude, that was good.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I made a new one. Not about that, thank god.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Are you talking about the one has a small.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Which all of them is just small?
- 8:47Speaker 5: PB videos read The British accent is so good. I
- 8:51Speaker 5: think that's what makes it great.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Because it sounds serious, elevated.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Did you specifically say British music? Why would you like,
- 8:59Speaker 2: why would your mind even go there.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Because British people sound smarter than we are, and I thought,
- 9:03Speaker 1: if it's a British news anchor, they seem it seems
- 9:05Speaker 1: a bit elevators official. And he's like, welcome, Eddie has
- 9:09Speaker 1: a small pape and I thought it'd be funny legit.
- 9:12Speaker 1: So there you go, dude.
- 9:13Speaker 2: The house that the reporter's stay in front of, it's Mexican.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Flag on and she's holding it. She's holding a tape measure.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Stupid.
- 9:22Speaker 6: And then when you're talking to your kids or your family,
- 9:24Speaker 6: are they like all sitting in front of ye, my
- 9:26Speaker 6: wife's woe.
- 9:28Speaker 2: He was specific with the details.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Yeah, so, uh, people don't think it's real, but it
- 9:34Speaker 1: is funny. That was a mild controversy here on the
- 9:36Speaker 1: show because that he got a little irritated, but we
- 9:38Speaker 1: found out mostly he was irritated because he had he
- 9:39Speaker 1: lost a bunch of bets the weekend.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that was kind of the root of it.
- 9:43Speaker 5: It was like an underlying thing there.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I'm taking a break from betting Kevin.
- 9:47Speaker 1: We've heard that before.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, you're gonna have to pull a read if
- 9:51Speaker 6: you really want to do that and call your son yourself.
- 9:53Speaker 2: I would never do that. Hey, yeah, what's.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Up, by the way, good news for you. Thunder clenched,
- 9:57Speaker 1: I know, And Eddie said at the beginning, goes, I'm
- 10:03Speaker 1: gonna go out on the limb. They picked the Thunder.
- 10:05Speaker 1: We're like, dude, they're the favorite.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but the favorite, like, there's a long road to
- 10:10Speaker 2: get there.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I can agree with that as well, but that's not
- 10:13Speaker 1: a limb to pick the favorite. So he said, if
- 10:15Speaker 1: you want to go on a limb, put something up,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and he was gonna wear a woman's song. I still
- 10:19Speaker 1: can if they don't win the championships.
- 10:21Speaker 5: So aren't you wearing one right now?
- 10:22Speaker 1: No?
- 10:23Speaker 2: Oh now, I'm saving it.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Okay, lose for it.
- 10:26Speaker 5: So chances looking pretty good.
- 10:28Speaker 1: They did win. They look good. Kevin's we haven't talked
- 10:31Speaker 1: about this as Celtics. They go out and it wasn't Achilles' injury.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Tatum's not gonna be on the team at all. They
- 10:36Speaker 1: probably gonna trade Drew Holiday all that thoughts.
- 10:39Speaker 6: Yeah, next year it could be a long one for us,
- 10:42Speaker 6: But I know we talked about it a little before
- 10:43Speaker 6: I left. I'm all in if we're gonna if we're
- 10:45Speaker 6: gonna sell, if we're gonna trade Drew, And I know
- 10:47Speaker 6: some people are talking about trading Jalen.
- 10:49Speaker 5: You can probably get a lot back for Jalen.
- 10:50Speaker 1: No chance they try to do Jen.
- 10:52Speaker 6: I don't think Sue either, But there's some people out
- 10:54Speaker 6: there talking about it that I listened to sports Wise.
- 10:56Speaker 6: And but if we're if we're like, you know, next year,
- 10:59Speaker 6: we're done, then let's be done. I don't want any hope.
- 11:02Speaker 6: I don't want a sliver of hope. If Tatum doesn't
- 11:04Speaker 6: play at all, that's fine.
- 11:05Speaker 1: There is no hope.
- 11:06Speaker 5: I agree.
- 11:08Speaker 2: How do you do that? How do you just like
- 11:09Speaker 2: go into a season and being like, there's just oh.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Let me let me tell you. As an Arkansas Razorbacks fan.
- 11:13Speaker 2: No, no, no, you have you. You're not gonna start
- 11:16Speaker 2: the season being like I'm just gonna watch every game.
- 11:18Speaker 5: No, I'm gonna watch.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Now, I'm gonna root. However, my expectations are, dude, we're
- 11:22Speaker 1: gonna I know our ceiling. There's nothing out love more
- 11:26Speaker 1: than the Razorbacks. But with the staff that we have
- 11:27Speaker 1: in the team, that we have. We ain't gonna win
- 11:29Speaker 1: more than six game seven max. Like I know that,
- 11:31Speaker 1: and you know that. I know that, And anything more
- 11:34Speaker 1: than that surprises you. I'll be happily surprised. There is
- 11:38Speaker 1: no chance we don't have it. We don't have the
- 11:41Speaker 1: coaching staff, we don't have the players. I saw where
- 11:43Speaker 1: we're like the one of the lowest rated, like player
- 11:45Speaker 1: ranking teams in the SEC. Like if you give every
- 11:48Speaker 1: player a score at eighty six point seven and we're
- 11:51Speaker 1: like third in the Sun Belt. If we're on the Sunbelt, No,
- 11:53Speaker 1: you don't win the SEC games if that's the case,
- 11:56Speaker 1: and it sucks. It sucks. Yeah, And nothing's gonna change
- 11:59Speaker 1: at least I don't want hell.
- 12:00Speaker 6: Yeah, And that's what I'm saying, Like this isn't something
- 12:02Speaker 6: that's going to be last for five years or anything.
- 12:04Speaker 6: But if we need to take a year off, step back,
- 12:08Speaker 6: made a good big draft pick, maybe get somebody I
- 12:11Speaker 6: don't know, free agent or trade because I think Porzingis
- 12:14Speaker 6: might be gone to love the guy, but he just
- 12:16Speaker 6: cannot stay healthy.
- 12:17Speaker 1: You also have to move money.
- 12:19Speaker 6: Yeah, And and Brad Stevens has been unbelievable since he's
- 12:22Speaker 6: been GM for the last three four years, so I
- 12:24Speaker 6: trust him. Whatever he does, I'm cool with. But I
- 12:26Speaker 6: just don't want that. You know, hey, we could still win.
- 12:29Speaker 6: The only thing that keeps me like, Okay, maybe we
- 12:31Speaker 6: should still go in is the East. Next year, it's
- 12:33Speaker 6: just like still going to be pretty wide open, especially
- 12:36Speaker 6: if the Bucks get rid of y Honest, unless he
- 12:37Speaker 6: stays in the East, it's like Miami, No Pacers are
- 12:40Speaker 6: going to be really good again.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Where the buck go, where the Bucks, excuse me, where
- 12:44Speaker 1: Yannis goes won't matter a lot if they if they
- 12:46Speaker 1: stay in the East. I think he'll go to a
- 12:48Speaker 1: team though that gives him a chance to win, regardless
- 12:51Speaker 1: he has said, and not that it matters fully that
- 12:53Speaker 1: he wants to go to a team that has no
- 12:55Speaker 1: state income tax interesting, which is Texas. I haven't heard
- 12:58Speaker 1: that Texas and Florida. It doesn't mean it has to
- 13:01Speaker 1: be that, but it could be a team like Miami.
- 13:03Speaker 1: But listen, it's gotta be Houston, mostly because Houston actually
- 13:06Speaker 1: has the draft capital to trade. It could even be
- 13:08Speaker 1: Oklahoma City. But I don't think they're gonna mess with
- 13:10Speaker 1: what they have now because what they have now, they're
- 13:13Speaker 1: gonna be able to have for years, especially Chet Sga
- 13:19Speaker 1: and Jalen Williams. Those three they're gonna be able to
- 13:22Speaker 1: keep for five years. They may have to move some
- 13:24Speaker 1: of the other pieces, but yeah, it's yeah, the East
- 13:27Speaker 1: is gonna be weird. Cleveland should be good again, and
- 13:29Speaker 1: they'll lose just in time.
- 13:31Speaker 5: Right, that's the thing, Like, Okay, man nixt will be
- 13:33Speaker 5: good again.
- 13:34Speaker 6: Yeah, interesting to see what they do too, because they're
- 13:36Speaker 6: already you know, they haven't lost officially yet, but it
- 13:40Speaker 6: just like the look that way, I know.
- 13:41Speaker 5: But it's like Thibideau, is he gonna be here? Is
- 13:43Speaker 5: kat gonna be here?
- 13:44Speaker 6: All this stuff and it's like, so I don't know,
- 13:46Speaker 6: a lot of things need to happen, but I'm on
- 13:47Speaker 6: board with whatever we do.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Just do it.
- 13:51Speaker 6: Because I don't like having that little hope and then
- 13:54Speaker 6: being like, you know what, now we're what drafting fifteenth,
- 13:56Speaker 6: Tatum didn't really play it this year.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Play at all.
- 13:58Speaker 1: He needs a ballet ballet, vallet, no ballet. Tatum needs
- 14:04Speaker 1: ballet like he.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Needs to do ballet, recover, rehab, rehabs ballet.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Herschel Walker used to do ballet, that's right, and now
- 14:12Speaker 1: Nicobe Dean from the Eagles has said he's now doing
- 14:16Speaker 1: ballet because he tore butller tendon during the playoff game
- 14:21Speaker 1: over the Packers last year, and part of his rehab
- 14:24Speaker 1: has been training with the Philadelphia Ballet Company.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Wow, that patella is the like the kneecap, right.
- 14:30Speaker 1: It's the but yeah, the patella tendon. I think it's
- 14:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 14:34Speaker 5: It's patella, but it's spelled patella.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Okay, good. If it's spelled pateller and it's said patella, that's.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Weird English language.
- 14:42Speaker 1: It's really spelled peller. Yeah, it's got an orange because
- 14:44Speaker 1: I know the patella, but I don't know what spelled
- 14:45Speaker 1: the art.
- 14:45Speaker 5: Well, now you get me thinking about I'm.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Sure you're right. I know there's a patella, but maybe
- 14:51Speaker 1: the patella or tendon is spelled.
- 14:53Speaker 5: Yeah, maybe it's still tended. Night is tender?
- 14:56Speaker 1: Is that it's not the butatella though, it's got to
- 14:58Speaker 1: be a different tendon than the patella aause the buttello is.
- 15:00Speaker 6: The nieh my gosh too. Yeah, there's a patella, tella
- 15:03Speaker 6: and a pateller.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Okay, my gosh, Okay.
- 15:05Speaker 2: You're already dog in the English language.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I know.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Well, we can go down this list.
- 15:09Speaker 1: So what's what's the patella tendon?
- 15:12Speaker 6: The bateller tendon looks like it's on the outside of
- 15:16Speaker 6: the knee.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Okay, but it's not. The patella.
- 15:20Speaker 5: Looks like the top of the knee.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Very confusing, correct not.
- 15:23Speaker 1: If you're a doctor and you study it.
- 15:24Speaker 5: That's true.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I said. There's way more flexibility and way more mobility.
- 15:27Speaker 1: It's definitely something that's helping with rehab. You just feel
- 15:29Speaker 1: a change immediately after you stretch. You're not as tight
- 15:32Speaker 1: or sore. So uh, Nikobe Dean and Jason Tatum.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Wonder if any of them like fall in love with
- 15:38Speaker 2: the ballet like a show up in the Nutcracker.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, like like the dancers give up football to pursue ballet.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Forget football, dang into ballet.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Now we're going to take a break come back with
- 15:50Speaker 1: Jake Dickert, who is the head coach of Wake Forest football.
- 15:52Speaker 1: This will be his first year at Wake Forest. He
- 15:54Speaker 1: was at Washington State and built that program into a
- 15:57Speaker 1: really good place, three bowl games in three years. Like
- 16:00Speaker 1: Jake Dickert, I think you're gonna love Jake Dickert. We

- 16:39Speaker 1: that the thunder were gonna win it all. We didn't
- 16:41Speaker 1: think that was that crazy. You have a bet because
- 16:43Speaker 1: well they were the favorite behind Boston. And then he
- 16:46Speaker 1: saw what happened to Tatum. Okay, so he's still riding

- 17:39Speaker 1: And now our conversation with Jake Dickert. He was named
- 17:42Speaker 1: the thirty third head coach of Wake Forest Football in
- 17:45Speaker 1: December of last year. He has seventeen years of coaching experience.
- 17:49Speaker 1: He was born in the eighties, so he's a young guy.
- 17:51Speaker 1: He looks like a young guy.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Oh.
- 17:53Speaker 1: As of the hiring at Wake Forest, his record at
- 17:57Speaker 1: Washington stadia a winning record, went to three Bowl games.
- 18:00Speaker 1: He was a wide receiver at Wisconsin Stevens Point and
- 18:04Speaker 1: he's kind of done it all. But he was known
- 18:07Speaker 1: at Washington State as the guy who came in and
- 18:08Speaker 1: stabilized that program and then one with consistency and then
- 18:12Speaker 1: they got good. So really cool. Love talking with them.
- 18:16Speaker 1: You can follow him on Twitter at coach Dickert. Here
- 18:18Speaker 1: he is Jake Dickert. Hey, coach. First of all, congratulations
- 18:22Speaker 1: on the new job. You're much closer to us so
- 18:23Speaker 1: we can now watch these games and not have to
- 18:25Speaker 1: wait until like ten PM to watch the games from
- 18:28Speaker 1: when your way out west. So congratulations, Thank you.
- 18:31Speaker 7: If you think the hard part is watching them, you
- 18:33Speaker 7: should see coaching in them in the next day, trying
- 18:36Speaker 7: to get ready for your next opponents. So it's a
- 18:37Speaker 7: big challenge. But excited to be out here on the
- 18:39Speaker 7: East coast.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:41Speaker 1: So I was thinking, because I'm gonna be honest with you,
- 18:43Speaker 1: I was talking to Frank Raich yesterday who's coaching at
- 18:46Speaker 1: Stanford and he's got to travel east a lot. Do
- 18:50Speaker 1: you do you guys have to travel all the way
- 18:51Speaker 1: west ever this year?
- 18:53Speaker 7: Yeah, it's actually odd. We don't do it in conference,
- 18:55Speaker 7: but we go play kind of an old foe that
- 18:58Speaker 7: I was used to at Washington State State. So we
- 19:00Speaker 7: got to head over to Core Vallas this year and
- 19:03Speaker 7: make that long trek. Fortunately, acc gave us a break
- 19:06Speaker 7: where we got to buy a week after, so we
- 19:08Speaker 7: kind of get that recovery. Going east to west isn't bad,
- 19:12Speaker 7: but it's always is coming back and losing that time.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Whenever you come into a new program like you did,
- 19:17Speaker 1: and you I guess we're announced in December? Is that true?
- 19:19Speaker 1: By the way, Yeah, okay, in late December. What do
- 19:22Speaker 1: you do because again that's like holiday time as well,
- 19:24Speaker 1: so like everything is confusing. We don't even know what
- 19:27Speaker 1: day it is during that time. Like how quickly and
- 19:30Speaker 1: how important is it for you to like try to
- 19:32Speaker 1: have a relationship with some of the players that you
- 19:33Speaker 1: want to maintain.
- 19:35Speaker 7: I'll say this, Bobby. First off, you know, we've created
- 19:37Speaker 7: this portal era of college football, and the first thing
- 19:40Speaker 7: the portal did was kill Christmas. Right, there is no
- 19:43Speaker 7: more kind of after season break for coaches, and it's
- 19:47Speaker 7: kind of something that we've accepted. You know, when coach
- 19:50Speaker 7: Classon retired late here, it was hard because by the
- 19:53Speaker 7: time I got on campus, everybody was gone, right, So
- 19:56Speaker 7: it was trying to you know, convince kids to stay
- 20:00Speaker 7: a recruit kind of your own roster, you know, doing
- 20:03Speaker 7: facetimes and zooms and family calls just like this. So
- 20:06Speaker 7: you know, you know, as much as anybody being in entertainment, like,
- 20:09Speaker 7: there's an in person personal vibe that you have to
- 20:12Speaker 7: feel with people. So it was very hard, you know
- 20:15Speaker 7: to kind of go navigate through that kind of challenging
- 20:17Speaker 7: process and really put a roster together in a quick order.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it seems like that would be tough. Did you
- 20:23Speaker 1: make and can you make travel plans to go out
- 20:26Speaker 1: and have in persons if they're home? Is that legal?
- 20:29Speaker 7: Yeah? It is. It's just one of those things where
- 20:32Speaker 7: you're kind of like prioritize and execute, like what is
- 20:37Speaker 7: this one thing that we need to focus on now.
- 20:39Speaker 7: I mean, it's retaining players, it's getting ready for the portal,
- 20:42Speaker 7: it's building a staff. I mean, there's just all these
- 20:45Speaker 7: different laundry lists of things that we chose to kind
- 20:48Speaker 7: of do it through here at that moment, and then
- 20:51Speaker 7: as soon as it opened back up, I got a
- 20:53Speaker 7: chance to go out and visit with all the signees
- 20:55Speaker 7: and do home visits and kind of go through that
- 20:57Speaker 7: different type of process. But you know, the game has changed,
- 21:01Speaker 7: especially with trying to you know, navigate, because as soon
- 21:04Speaker 7: as the coaching change happens, the Sharks come in and
- 21:07Speaker 7: everyone's trying to get your best players. There's this ten
- 21:09Speaker 7: day window of kind of you're just trying to get
- 21:12Speaker 7: to your feet back underneath yourself in a new deal
- 21:14Speaker 7: and try to get everyone to believe in the process
- 21:16Speaker 7: and what your vision is.
- 21:18Speaker 1: So I'm going to ask a question, but I'm gonna
- 21:19Speaker 1: be background to why I asked the question. There was
- 21:22Speaker 1: a brief period of time where I was considering running
- 21:24Speaker 1: for the governor of my home state of Arkansas, and
- 21:26Speaker 1: I was actually being recruited. They have these these these
- 21:28Speaker 1: companies that are these organizations that come and go, hey,
- 21:31Speaker 1: we think you'd be a great fit to run, we
- 21:33Speaker 1: think you can win, and so a little bit I
- 21:36Speaker 1: was getting gassed up going maybe I do want to
- 21:37Speaker 1: go be governor of Arkansas, because, like I love my
- 21:39Speaker 1: home state. I think I could do a lot for it.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And then it turned into, well, most of your day
- 21:43Speaker 1: is being on the phone asking for money like that
- 21:45Speaker 1: was most of the time, and I was like, you
- 21:47Speaker 1: know what, that does not sound appealing. Now when I
- 21:50Speaker 1: look at your job and how different it is from
- 21:53Speaker 1: today to three or four years ago, and have other
- 21:55Speaker 1: friends that have our head coaches, different programs, how much
- 21:58Speaker 1: of it is actually trying to find money now?
- 22:01Speaker 7: Well, my greatest mentor is Craig Ball And the first
- 22:04Speaker 7: thing he told me, he said, Jake, if you ever
- 22:05Speaker 7: want to get out of coaching, become a head coach, right,
- 22:08Speaker 7: because it is everything Sometimes besides sitting in those meeting rooms,
- 22:13Speaker 7: the X is in and OS is more of a
- 22:15Speaker 7: mentorship development role. When you're talking about the players. I'm
- 22:19Speaker 7: a big, you know, guy on sports psychology and high performance.
- 22:22Speaker 7: But when you're looking at the other side, especially in
- 22:24Speaker 7: today's world at wake Forest and a lot of other programs,
- 22:27Speaker 7: you got to you gotta raise money. I mean, there's
- 22:29Speaker 7: a collective aspect, there's an nil aspect, there's a program
- 22:32Speaker 7: fund aspect, there's a facilities aspect. There's there's just a
- 22:36Speaker 7: lot of buckets that you've got to make sure you're
- 22:37Speaker 7: maintaining and filling and you know, have done a lot
- 22:40Speaker 7: of work in the last you know, five months since
- 22:42Speaker 7: I've been here about building those relationships with the most
- 22:45Speaker 7: important people in our program that you know, some are
- 22:49Speaker 7: you know, former alumni, some are boosters, some are just
- 22:51Speaker 7: a lot of different things that you know can help
- 22:54Speaker 7: our program advance, because if you don't have those things
- 22:56Speaker 7: in today's world, I mean, you're just you're sledding uphill
- 22:59Speaker 7: in a in a big way.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Do you ever like play golf and it's like, you know,
- 23:02Speaker 1: everybody knows the whole time, like on whole sixteen you
- 23:04Speaker 1: got to make the ask, but you play like fifteen
- 23:06Speaker 1: holes and the guy's like, I know, coach about to
- 23:08Speaker 1: ask me for money. And then you're like, so, Clint,
- 23:12Speaker 1: we really could use your support. Like that's got to
- 23:14Speaker 1: be happening sometimes too, right, Oh, it happens all the time.
- 23:17Speaker 7: I Mean it's one of those things where I always
- 23:19Speaker 7: say I'm a terrible golfer, but I'm a hell of
- 23:20Speaker 7: a guy to driving the cart with right, So you know,
- 23:23Speaker 7: the more you can get the cart, get all to
- 23:25Speaker 7: come by and to keep them happy and fun and
- 23:28Speaker 7: just really what I've learned though, it's just people are people, right,
- 23:32Speaker 7: I'm in that arena because they're passionate about Wake Forest,
- 23:35Speaker 7: they've already supported our football program, and you're just kind
- 23:38Speaker 7: of showing them who you are as a person and
- 23:40Speaker 7: what your vision is. So sometimes when it gets to
- 23:43Speaker 7: that ask, it's a team ask. Right, I'm there, and
- 23:46Speaker 7: they understand why I'm there and what they're doing, and
- 23:49Speaker 7: you know, there's a lot of follow up in real
- 23:51Speaker 7: relationships are built off off those moments.
- 23:53Speaker 1: I hate because I listen, I'll be honest with you.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I'm a significant donor at the University of Arkansas. Like
- 23:58Speaker 1: you know, once I got some fame and some money,
- 24:01Speaker 1: Like the one thing I wanted to do in my
- 24:03Speaker 1: life was to be able to give and win. We
- 24:05Speaker 1: have won very much, but I give hope and one
- 24:07Speaker 1: day we'll win. And that's a I know, like that
- 24:09Speaker 1: questions coming if if I like I'm invited to do something,
- 24:12Speaker 1: if it's like, well, probably before dessert comes, or like
- 24:15Speaker 1: the seventeenth hole is when the ask is gonna come.
- 24:18Speaker 1: So yeah, you guys' job it is again to mentor
- 24:22Speaker 1: players and be the CEO, but it's also weird, you
- 24:24Speaker 1: got to it's constantly like a money situation for all things,
- 24:28Speaker 1: not just building facilities, which is what it kind of
- 24:30Speaker 1: used to be. Like, do you still enjoy the head
- 24:33Speaker 1: coach position as much as you did?
- 24:35Speaker 7: I would say this, I'm still learning a little bit,
- 24:37Speaker 7: you know, ours three years at the head coach position
- 24:39Speaker 7: at Washington State and now obviously here at Wake Forest.
- 24:43Speaker 7: It's it's always changing. And that's the thing that's crazy
- 24:46Speaker 7: right now, Bobby about college football. It's just like just
- 24:48Speaker 7: when you get settled in, like we're heading down like
- 24:50Speaker 7: this set of rules, it's like we just love zig
- 24:53Speaker 7: zagging and swerving, and you know, we have one of
- 24:56Speaker 7: the greatest games like ever invented, not just in football,
- 25:00Speaker 7: in college football it is different than NFL. We have
- 25:03Speaker 7: to do a better job of preserving the integrity of
- 25:06Speaker 7: the game and what makes it so special and what
- 25:08Speaker 7: drives so many people to be so passionate about the rivalries,
- 25:12Speaker 7: about their fans, about where they went to school. So
- 25:15Speaker 7: there's a lot of different things that go along with
- 25:18Speaker 7: all these things of college football and being a head
- 25:21Speaker 7: coach and kind of learning a little bit on the fly.
- 25:23Speaker 7: I mean, you look at my past you know, Bobby, Like,
- 25:27Speaker 7: I was just got named the head coach at Washington State.
- 25:29Speaker 7: Six months later the PAC twelve dissolves, right, So it
- 25:33Speaker 7: was like one of those things, it's a lifetime, there's
- 25:35Speaker 7: a dream come true. And I've been through nothing but
- 25:38Speaker 7: kind of adversity. And you know, Washington State didn't get
- 25:41Speaker 7: picked up to go into one of the new Power
- 25:43Speaker 7: five leagues. Right, So all my time as a head
- 25:46Speaker 7: coach has been, you know, kind of standing in this
- 25:48Speaker 7: adversity circle that we've had to kind of power through.
- 25:52Speaker 7: And that was part of the move down here to
- 25:53Speaker 7: Wake for us.
- 25:54Speaker 1: So I was doing some research that I did not
- 25:57Speaker 1: know about you, and you'd played wide receiver right back
- 26:00Speaker 1: at Wisconsin Stevens Point. Okay, so here's the crazy thing
- 26:03Speaker 1: to me is you played wide receiver, but you're known
- 26:06Speaker 1: for your defensive schemes. How did usually That's not how
- 26:09Speaker 1: it happened. How did that happen?
- 26:11Speaker 7: Well, it was It was an interesting story. So I
- 26:14Speaker 7: got a math degree. I thought I was gonna be
- 26:16Speaker 7: a high school math teacher. That was my passion going
- 26:18Speaker 7: to education, be a high school coach. And I was sitting,
- 26:22Speaker 7: you know, having a beer with my dad, on the
- 26:23Speaker 7: back porch in the summer after I graduated, and he
- 26:26Speaker 7: said the one regret he does he didn't do in
- 26:29Speaker 7: life was try college coaching. So I quit my job.
- 26:32Speaker 7: I got a GAT where I played, and the one
- 26:34Speaker 7: thing that was out is my brother was on the team,
- 26:36Speaker 7: so he was an offensive center. I played offense. But
- 26:40Speaker 7: my head coach is like, you're not going to ga
- 26:41Speaker 7: on the same side of the ball that your brother
- 26:44Speaker 7: plays on. So he's like, go learn defense. I'll help
- 26:46Speaker 7: your career. You'll get back to offense no problem, you know.
- 26:49Speaker 7: So as a twenty three year old kid, I started
- 26:52Speaker 7: learning defense. My biggest break came and I got a
- 26:55Speaker 7: GA at North Dakota State the following year, and that's
- 26:58Speaker 7: been an amazing tree of defense that has kind of been,
- 27:01Speaker 7: you know, permeated through all all levels of college football.
- 27:05Speaker 7: So I just fit my personality. I'm a math guy,
- 27:08Speaker 7: solving problems. You know. It just kind of worked out
- 27:11Speaker 7: as far as like my fit and I got up
- 27:14Speaker 7: a chance to be under a lot of really great people.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Do you ever, I don't know, because I would think
- 27:20Speaker 1: you played wide receiver, but like you weren't never a linebacker,
- 27:24Speaker 1: So I think I'd want to like get in and
- 27:26Speaker 1: mix it up a little bit, just to see what
- 27:27Speaker 1: it feels like. You know, you like put the path
- 27:29Speaker 1: you're still a young guy, Like just a little bit
- 27:31Speaker 1: just so you can like see, Yeah, it's rare that
- 27:34Speaker 1: someone comes from the offensive side of the ball that
- 27:36Speaker 1: ends up being a specialist on the other side of
- 27:39Speaker 1: the ball. How much to numbers actually, you say, math
- 27:42Speaker 1: and baseball notorious analytics? Right, Baseball more seemingly more than
- 27:47Speaker 1: anyone else, although we do see it more in football
- 27:48Speaker 1: now they've been put it on the screen. How much
- 27:50Speaker 1: numbers matter to you play to play series to series
- 27:54Speaker 1: a lot?
- 27:55Speaker 7: But I always look at it more as like situational analytics. Right,
- 27:59Speaker 7: there is so many differfferent things. I think that the
- 28:01Speaker 7: casual fan doesn't understand about the head coach and managing
- 28:05Speaker 7: a game and how you utilize the numbers. I mean,
- 28:08Speaker 7: just as simple as something last year college football implemented
- 28:11Speaker 7: a two minute warning. So the casual fan that's been
- 28:14Speaker 7: seen in the NFL, no problem, okay, no issues. Now
- 28:18Speaker 7: from a head coaching standpoint, Okay, when do you want
- 28:21Speaker 7: to take your timeouts? You take them before the two
- 28:23Speaker 7: minute warning. You save them till after. Analytics will tell
- 28:26Speaker 7: you if you have three, you start taking them after
- 28:29Speaker 7: two minutes and forty seconds left on the clock. If
- 28:32Speaker 7: you only have two, you got to wait until under
- 28:34Speaker 7: two twenty. There's a whole bunch of different numbers that
- 28:37Speaker 7: think that, you know, the casual fan doesn't quite understand
- 28:40Speaker 7: how do you utilize and maximize all these different type
- 28:43Speaker 7: of things like never taking a timeout inside of two
- 28:46Speaker 7: oh seven left on the clock because you want to
- 28:48Speaker 7: maximize the two minute warning as a full timeout. So
- 28:51Speaker 7: there's a million different of those analytical situations that end
- 28:54Speaker 7: up in our game. And you know, the best coaches,
- 28:57Speaker 7: I think are bulletproof in those situations that the p
- 29:00Speaker 7: and their team is ready for them.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Coach I worked for the NFL as well, and they
- 29:04Speaker 1: have told me that I cannot call the two minute
- 29:06Speaker 1: warning in college has to be called a two minute
- 29:08Speaker 1: time out. And I just let you know, coach, I
- 29:10Speaker 1: want you to I'll get you soon. It's called a
- 29:11Speaker 1: two minute time out.
- 29:12Speaker 7: I know they went big on that last year. I
- 29:16Speaker 7: just I just try to go with what we know.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Is that like a memo that gets sent out or
- 29:20Speaker 1: just somebody just tell you it's just like you know.
- 29:22Speaker 7: These ACC meetings, they're pack twelve meetings, like hey, you
- 29:25Speaker 7: know it's a two minute timeout and they drill the
- 29:27Speaker 7: refs in it, so you know they speak in all
- 29:30Speaker 7: that same language. It's it is what it is. It's
- 29:33Speaker 7: all the same thing.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Do you have a position group that you oversee a
- 29:35Speaker 1: little more than the rest, Well, I think.
- 29:37Speaker 7: The biggest thing is you always have to stay really
- 29:39Speaker 7: connected to the quarterback. It's obviously I like to tell
- 29:42Speaker 7: our guys, you know, the biggest decision maker on game
- 29:45Speaker 7: day isn't me, it's you, right, it's the quarterback. I mean,
- 29:49Speaker 7: you got the keys of the car. You know, we
- 29:51Speaker 7: sit there and I want to make sure you know,
- 29:53Speaker 7: every Thursday before a game, you know, we have one
- 29:55Speaker 7: of these big meetings where what's your favorite play? What
- 29:58Speaker 7: do you like on third down? Be aware of these
- 30:00Speaker 7: situations and pressure and red zone and you know, so
- 30:03Speaker 7: just making sure that you know there's a trust being
- 30:06Speaker 7: built between the head coach and that position at all times.
- 30:10Speaker 7: I don't think you can ever once you have a
- 30:12Speaker 7: specialty kind of coming through, like I was mainly safeties,
- 30:15Speaker 7: defensive backs, linebackers. I always have one eye on those guys.
- 30:19Speaker 7: You know, but my job now is really the mentality
- 30:22Speaker 7: of the team.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I want to ask about freshman when they come in
- 30:24Speaker 1: because it's a different environment now, because it's hard for
- 30:26Speaker 1: freshmen to play and than freshmen a lot of times
- 30:27Speaker 1: will be upset they don't get to play it. The
- 30:29Speaker 1: next thing you know, they're you know, they're you know,
- 30:31Speaker 1: hopping in the portal. But you guys, and I think
- 30:34Speaker 1: his name is jayshawnoffitt Is I say his name, coach, yep, yeah,
- 30:38Speaker 1: like real deal. But freshman, what's your expectations for him?
- 30:43Speaker 1: He's an offensive lineman too, which is a very difficult place.
- 30:45Speaker 7: Well, it's an interesting topic, Bobby, just in all the
- 30:48Speaker 7: college football because you know, when I played, and I
- 30:51Speaker 7: was a Division three player, played for the love of
- 30:53Speaker 7: the game. Was never going to feed my family through
- 30:54Speaker 7: this game. And you know, if you red shirted, you
- 30:58Speaker 7: carved a roll out your friendshman and sophomore year and
- 31:01Speaker 7: you started your junior and senior year like we'd say,
- 31:03Speaker 7: one hell of a career. Okay. Now, you know, guys
- 31:07Speaker 7: come in and the red shirt or they don't play
- 31:09Speaker 7: the freshman year and everyone's panicking, like we've built this
- 31:12Speaker 7: microwave society where you want instant success, instant opportunity. It
- 31:17Speaker 7: just doesn't work like that. I call this a slow
- 31:19Speaker 7: cooker game sometimes, especially at offensive line, you need to
- 31:23Speaker 7: put your ass in a slow cooker and develop. And
- 31:26Speaker 7: you know, I'm sorry, that's the way our game is built.
- 31:28Speaker 7: And I still believe, you know, some of the transferring around,
- 31:31Speaker 7: they're certain good to it. But when you're learning new
- 31:34Speaker 7: techniques and new coaches and all the time, and you're
- 31:36Speaker 7: never you know, setting down and building roots, it's hard
- 31:38Speaker 7: for you to develop as a football player. Right. I
- 31:41Speaker 7: believe the numbers were there wasn't a single offensive lineman
- 31:44Speaker 7: drafted that transferred more than one time, right, because you
- 31:48Speaker 7: just you can't. Right. So there's a lot of things
- 31:50Speaker 7: that go into this that I think are very important
- 31:53Speaker 7: in trying to get young people and not just the
- 31:56Speaker 7: young people. But you know it works today, Bobby. I mean,
- 31:58Speaker 7: it's their whole environment that is created around him. Agents, families, aunts, uncles, trainers, like,
- 32:05Speaker 7: there's a lot of people you know, are that are
- 32:07Speaker 7: in these kids' ears that you got to make sure
- 32:09Speaker 7: you're building real relationships with.
- 32:11Speaker 1: So how do you have that honest conversation with a
- 32:13Speaker 1: highly touted high school kid that's going to come in
- 32:16Speaker 1: as a freshman, you know, like often who we're talking
- 32:18Speaker 1: about now to go, Hey, we love you. We see
- 32:21Speaker 1: a big future, do you say, but it's going to
- 32:23Speaker 1: be tough year one as an offensive lineman to hop
- 32:25Speaker 1: in and start.
- 32:25Speaker 7: Yeah, there's a really cool clip out there. I love
- 32:28Speaker 7: studying like the best, Like Mike Tomlin is one of
- 32:30Speaker 7: the best. And one of the things he gave a
- 32:32Speaker 7: big preson presentation to his team about is having realistic expectations.
- 32:37Speaker 7: I don't care if you're a first round, seventh round pick,
- 32:39Speaker 7: free agent, right, there's realistic expectations that we both need
- 32:43Speaker 7: to have coming into this situation. And if you just
- 32:46Speaker 7: think you're gonna come from high school in the wake
- 32:48Speaker 7: forest and just dominate like you're part of the one percent, right,
- 32:52Speaker 7: so you already are setting yourself up for mental failure
- 32:55Speaker 7: because you don't have a realistic expectation, like of what
- 32:58Speaker 7: it really takes to come in here and compete. Okay,
- 33:01Speaker 7: when you're ready. My number one job is you're going
- 33:04Speaker 7: to play freshman, senior, everything in between. But you've got
- 33:08Speaker 7: to be able to set a framework, you know, for
- 33:11Speaker 7: yourself and you approach it, and then let's have constant
- 33:14Speaker 7: communication about where you're at, how you can grow and
- 33:17Speaker 7: get better. I talk all the time, Bobby, failure is
- 33:20Speaker 7: the best thing that can ever happen in these kids,
- 33:22Speaker 7: because I don't learn about you when you're scoring touchdowns.
- 33:25Speaker 7: I learn about you when you get your ass knockdown. Right,
- 33:28Speaker 7: That's where I step in. That's where we know the flaws.
- 33:30Speaker 7: That's where we know how you can grow as a
- 33:31Speaker 7: man and as a football player. Right. So all these
- 33:34Speaker 7: things are interwoven into the fabric of why I truly
- 33:38Speaker 7: believe football is the greatest vehicle maybe ever created to
- 33:43Speaker 7: develop men, and I think it's an amazing sport that
- 33:46Speaker 7: we need to protect.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I have three final questions for you. I do want
- 33:49Speaker 1: to talk about the general manager role that a lot
- 33:51Speaker 1: of schools have. Do you have one of a football
- 33:53Speaker 1: and otweit for us?
- 33:54Speaker 7: Yeah, we're actually one of the first and twenty twenty
- 33:56Speaker 7: two at Washington State to name a general manager is
- 34:00Speaker 7: his name is Robert Schlagery. Actually gad for us when
- 34:03Speaker 7: we were back at Wyoming and one of the biggest
- 34:06Speaker 7: things of change here at WAKE was creating a whole
- 34:09Speaker 7: what we call player acquisition department. I mean it's no
- 34:12Speaker 7: longer just recruiting. I mean as general managers, it's director
- 34:16Speaker 7: of player personnels. It's five scouts under them, it's three
- 34:19Speaker 7: people just in the recruiting phase once we identify who
- 34:22Speaker 7: we want, a whole intern you know, department kind of
- 34:25Speaker 7: helping all these people out. So it is an interesting
- 34:29Speaker 7: and different approach. I think we're professionalized and model, but
- 34:34Speaker 7: you just can't say this is professional football and do
- 34:36Speaker 7: the same things that they do, right, So there still
- 34:40Speaker 7: is a difference and a kind of framework that I
- 34:43Speaker 7: think makes each program a little bit unique.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Two questions. The conclave and you'll see where this relates.
- 34:49Speaker 1: But you know, they picked the pope, they go in it,
- 34:51Speaker 1: it's all shut down, and the next thing, you know,
- 34:53Speaker 1: they put up white smoke. We got a new pope,
- 34:55Speaker 1: and this time it was American. Pretty cool. Now, when
- 34:57Speaker 1: it comes to picking the captains, is that a team
- 34:59Speaker 1: voted thing? And do you shut it down? White smoke
- 35:01Speaker 1: come out? Like what's happening when you guys pick a captain?
- 35:03Speaker 7: Well, I think it's always a little bit different team
- 35:05Speaker 7: by team and year by year. You know, I think
- 35:07Speaker 7: in twenty twenty two in Washington State. We had four guys.
- 35:10Speaker 7: You know, I think they were just kind of you're
- 35:12Speaker 7: feeling out your team. I think last year we had
- 35:14Speaker 7: six guys, you know, kind of see how it shapes out.
- 35:17Speaker 7: What I like to do, Bobby is, you know, we
- 35:19Speaker 7: vote for position leaders, which I think then in turn
- 35:22Speaker 7: become our leadership council. We train those guys like I
- 35:26Speaker 7: read them books like The Twin Thieves. Right here, this
- 35:28Speaker 7: is like our culture playbook. We go through it, and
- 35:31Speaker 7: then from that group of people, you know, then the
- 35:34Speaker 7: team after fall camps kind of votes on you know,
- 35:38Speaker 7: who they want. We give them two votes, and you know,
- 35:40Speaker 7: whether it's three guys, whether it's two guys. At one
- 35:43Speaker 7: time I did a coaches pick because I thought there
- 35:45Speaker 7: was someone that vitally needed to be in that room.
- 35:48Speaker 7: So it's kind of a feel and a year to
- 35:50Speaker 7: year thing on what kind of team you have.
- 35:52Speaker 1: You don't have like a spy in there, though, you
- 35:53Speaker 1: put someone in to actually tell you what's really happening.
- 35:56Speaker 7: No, these are real bots. Okay, all right, I don't
- 35:59Speaker 7: think that the coaches kind of just trump all this stuff.
- 36:01Speaker 7: This is this is real voting.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Give me your Mount Rushmore for your favorite musical artists
- 36:06Speaker 1: of all time?
- 36:07Speaker 7: Wow, what a what a question. Probably a little bit
- 36:10Speaker 7: of recency bias. I've just kind of transition probably in
- 36:13Speaker 7: the last ten years to country music. So right now
- 36:16Speaker 7: it would be Luke, Colmbs, Morgan Wallen, you know, right
- 36:19Speaker 7: right out the bat. When I grew up, I would
- 36:22Speaker 7: say probably Eminem and then I'm gonna put like little
- 36:26Speaker 7: Wayne in there. I kind of went through a phase
- 36:28Speaker 7: of we kind of you know, mixing, mixing a whole
- 36:31Speaker 7: bunch of different genres. So I did get a chance
- 36:34Speaker 7: to see a George Strait concert that was kind of
- 36:37Speaker 7: way up there is just find of a bucket list
- 36:39Speaker 7: thing to do, so we're kind of knocking these off
- 36:41Speaker 7: once I get a little bit of time, getting a
- 36:43Speaker 7: chance to get out there and here's some music.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Yeah, you can tell we were born around the same time, coach. Honestly,
- 36:47Speaker 1: that's definitely Hey one like asterisk bonus question. Will you
- 36:51Speaker 1: tell me about that book? I'm a big reader if
- 36:55Speaker 1: you like it? Like why?
- 36:56Speaker 2: Well?
- 36:57Speaker 7: First off, Steve Jones was actually a teammate of mine
- 37:01Speaker 7: back in back at UW. Stevens point. The book is
- 37:05Speaker 7: not about him, but it's about his teams. He ended
- 37:08Speaker 7: up being one of the highly the most winning this
- 37:10Speaker 7: high school football team ever in the state of Wisconsin.
- 37:14Speaker 7: And I'm just a big believer in sports psychology. And
- 37:18Speaker 7: without giving away the book, and I'll send you on
- 37:20Speaker 7: Bobby the Twin Thieves. I love studying high performance and
- 37:24Speaker 7: what holds people back, okay, and how we're going to
- 37:27Speaker 7: bridge that gap. And the whole book is designed around
- 37:29Speaker 7: two things are crushing kind of young people and performers today.
- 37:33Speaker 7: It's the fear of failure, right, and they're not seeing
- 37:37Speaker 7: it as a way to grow and get better, and
- 37:39Speaker 7: we must fail to grow. But more importantly, the second
- 37:42Speaker 7: thief is the fear of judgment. Right. I think a
- 37:45Speaker 7: lot of young people today are paralyzed from the social
- 37:48Speaker 7: media aspect of it. And what do my teammates think,
- 37:50Speaker 7: What does social media think? What happens now? And it
- 37:53Speaker 7: just holds people back from becoming the best versions of themselves.
- 37:57Speaker 7: That's all I ask of our guys. Our staff are employed,
- 38:00Speaker 7: whoever it is, and our standard is delivering your best,
- 38:03Speaker 7: and we can't be held back by false narratives. Right.
- 38:06Speaker 7: And there's so many different culture building examples throughout the
- 38:09Speaker 7: course of this book, and there's great stories that I
- 38:12Speaker 7: think are relatable, and you know, we kind of work
- 38:15Speaker 7: through it and discuss it. But I think those are
- 38:17Speaker 7: the two biggest things that I try to help people
- 38:20Speaker 7: like bridge that gap and how they overcome these things,
- 38:23Speaker 7: because I think we all grow up different, we all
- 38:26Speaker 7: have our scars. I openly talk about mine and my
- 38:29Speaker 7: failures and where I've learned and grown, so they don't
- 38:31Speaker 7: see me as some shiny perfect object as being the
- 38:34Speaker 7: head coach. So I think, you know, the more you
- 38:37Speaker 7: can do that and relate to these guys, and I
- 38:39Speaker 7: just think even reading them, just books like that, I
- 38:41Speaker 7: think it all connects us in a special way.
- 38:45Speaker 1: We have a girl on the show that every time
- 38:46Speaker 1: she plays a game, it's not like we're competing for
- 38:48Speaker 1: a scholarship, but she gets so tight. She's really smart,
- 38:50Speaker 1: but she cannot play a game because she freaks out
- 38:52Speaker 1: and gets so nervous. What advice would you give her?
- 38:55Speaker 7: Oh man, that's a good question. You know, some of
- 38:59Speaker 7: it is I've I've listened to some of your games,
- 39:02Speaker 7: So there's some hard ones. There are some hard ones
- 39:06Speaker 7: out there that are really tough. Obviously, Lunchbox doesn't have
- 39:09Speaker 7: that issue.
- 39:09Speaker 1: He does not have that issue.
- 39:12Speaker 7: Yeah, he's just he can just go out there and
- 39:14Speaker 7: just say whatever. I just be confident. More importantly, like
- 39:18Speaker 7: one thing I try to do and this doesn't relate
- 39:20Speaker 7: to it. But be you right, be you align with us. Man.
- 39:24Speaker 7: Just be the best version of yourself. Go out there,
- 39:26Speaker 7: have fun, be able to have been, been able to
- 39:28Speaker 7: laugh at yourself a little bit as you go throughout
- 39:30Speaker 7: your journey, and I think it becomes obviously a well
- 39:33Speaker 7: purposed vision of yourself.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Coach. We really appreciate the time. I'm rooting for you
- 39:37Speaker 1: guys this year. Yeah, super cool. I'm excited to see
- 39:41Speaker 1: what wake Forest does. I don't ever root against wake
- 39:43Speaker 1: Forest is a fun thing. Some teams I root against
- 39:45Speaker 1: sometimes I never root against wake Forest, so it's easy
- 39:47Speaker 1: for me to just hop in and root for you guys.
- 39:49Speaker 1: So yeah, really appreciate the time. Good luck and looking
- 39:52Speaker 1: forward to seeing you guys next season.
- 39:54Speaker 7: I keep up all the great work, go Dex.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Thanks Coach. There's Forbess in the room now. Kevin, I
- 40:01Speaker 1: have to say you're the only one that didn't get
- 40:02Speaker 1: invited to go on the golf trip, but mostly cause
- 40:04Speaker 1: you had twins. You can't go.
- 40:06Speaker 5: There's no way, you're a fun When is it now?
- 40:08Speaker 1: We're leaving now?
- 40:10Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 40:10Speaker 6: Okay, yeah I can't go. Guys, I do I have
- 40:16Speaker 6: only been, I think once this year.
- 40:17Speaker 2: But yeah, wasn't Brandon talking like that?
- 40:21Speaker 5: What am I talking about? Heat? Do you ever golf
- 40:26Speaker 5: in your spare time? So what's going on?
- 40:28Speaker 1: Why you didn't get invited?
- 40:29Speaker 5: Okay, I appreciate that we're going to a course.
- 40:31Speaker 1: This guy like a ten month waiting period.
- 40:34Speaker 2: I know, now you're rubbing it.
- 40:35Speaker 5: I was gonna say, we didn't need to throw that
- 40:37Speaker 5: in there, but that's okay.
- 40:38Speaker 1: So we're gonna play the full round. We're going to
- 40:40Speaker 1: Paynes Valley, which is out outside of Branson, but it's
- 40:45Speaker 1: part of the whole. Johnny Morris Big Cedar, uh they
- 40:49Speaker 1: do is a PGA tournament course.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Yeah, Johnny Morris owns a Who's we who.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Eddie Brandon, Brandon, my brother in law, DJ and my
- 41:01Speaker 1: father in law.
- 41:03Speaker 5: That's legit.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and we don't have any rules.
- 41:05Speaker 7: Really.
- 41:05Speaker 1: I was like, we bring cameras, like, do whatever you want.
- 41:07Speaker 5: We're really you're here.
- 41:08Speaker 2: We're gonna play without pants, all of it nice.
- 41:11Speaker 1: And then we're playing. They have a of course they
- 41:13Speaker 1: haven't finished building yet, but they have like eleven holes
- 41:16Speaker 1: fully done. It's a part three. It's like the space.
- 41:18Speaker 1: They say, it's like playing on the moon.
- 41:19Speaker 5: What what? What does it even mean?
- 41:22Speaker 1: Because you're all it's all in like over caverns and caves.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Awesome.
- 41:26Speaker 6: Yeah, really like you're playing in the sphere in Las
- 41:28Speaker 6: Vegas or something kind of Yeah, exactly like that actually.
- 41:32Speaker 5: Guys going to Vegas.
- 41:33Speaker 2: No, okay, exactly, but exactly.
- 41:36Speaker 5: That sounds legit.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're not doing but it's because you it
- 41:39Speaker 1: was never an option.
- 41:40Speaker 5: Well, thanks for letting know.
- 41:41Speaker 2: We're helping you out because because you can't even make
- 41:43Speaker 2: that ask, you choose so bad.
- 41:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I gotta put in a lot more time before
- 41:49Speaker 6: we get there.
- 41:50Speaker 1: Do you feel like a different person since you had twins?
- 41:52Speaker 5: Uh? Not really, and not in a bad or good way.
- 41:56Speaker 5: I just don't.
- 41:57Speaker 6: I just kind of like it's one of those things
- 41:59Speaker 6: where the kids come and you're like, all right, now,
- 42:02Speaker 6: we got to figure this out and you make your
- 42:03Speaker 6: life adjustments and everything comes with it.
- 42:06Speaker 1: But as far as a different person, no, what did
- 42:09Speaker 1: the day feel like when you had the baby?
- 42:11Speaker 2: It was wild.
- 42:12Speaker 1: You knew it was twins, by the way.
- 42:13Speaker 6: Yeah, I knew it was twins. And you knew the day,
- 42:16Speaker 6: knew the day, knew the time. I knew all that
- 42:19Speaker 6: it was a scheduled sea section. The craziest part was
- 42:22Speaker 6: they were like, hey, you're gonna hang out here for
- 42:23Speaker 6: fifteen minutes while we go get her ready, get your
- 42:25Speaker 6: scrubs on, and we'll bring you in and then we'll
- 42:27Speaker 6: get going.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, coo, what are you so nervous?
- 42:30Speaker 6: I was more excited than nervous, I think, and I
- 42:32Speaker 6: was more nervous for her, because you want to get as nervous.
- 42:34Speaker 2: But did you know do you know how that sea
- 42:38Speaker 2: section works? Like what they do?
- 42:41Speaker 5: No? And I never dove into it. She did.
- 42:44Speaker 6: I did not because I didn't want to know them
- 42:46Speaker 6: less I knew the better.
- 42:50Speaker 5: I'm like, no, I'm good and uh. And then they
- 42:52Speaker 5: bring me in like all right, ready for you.
- 42:54Speaker 6: And I come in and I'm expecting, like you know,
- 42:56Speaker 6: I walk in and there's you know, doctors getting ready
- 42:58Speaker 6: and prepping and cleaning. They're going at it. They are
- 43:02Speaker 6: they already started the surgery. They already started the surgery.
- 43:05Speaker 6: Yet yeah, they're going at it I thought going up
- 43:13Speaker 6: and down.
- 43:14Speaker 1: I'm like, dude, yeah, you're way happier than we thought
- 43:21Speaker 1: you were at it, all right, go ahead.
- 43:22Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 43:23Speaker 6: So I walking in, it's like a movie or a
- 43:24Speaker 6: show where I just walk right in. The big old
- 43:26Speaker 6: doors swing open, and it's these bright lights and doctors everywhere,
- 43:29Speaker 6: and they're just performing on her.
- 43:30Speaker 5: And one doctor looks at me and he's like, Kevin, you.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Just keep saying the wrong.
- 43:39Speaker 6: And then the one doctor looks at me, he's like
- 43:40Speaker 6: your dad, Kevin, Like yeah, He's like, come sit over here.
- 43:42Speaker 6: So I sat right next to her. She's covered up,
- 43:45Speaker 6: you know her, there's like a sheet on her belly basically,
- 43:47Speaker 6: so I can't see anything. I could look if I
- 43:49Speaker 6: wanted to, absolutely not looking. So I'm right next to
- 43:52Speaker 6: her and talking to her. She's holding my hand, you know,
- 43:55Speaker 6: she's asking how's it going. I was like, it's going great.
- 43:58Speaker 6: I'm asking her how she's doing. She's emotion she's you know,
- 44:01Speaker 6: there's a lot of emotions going on, a lot of feelings.
- 44:03Speaker 6: She can't obviously can't feel anything they number, but she
- 44:05Speaker 6: can feel like certain pressures.
- 44:08Speaker 5: Yeah yeah.
- 44:09Speaker 6: And then at one point they like tilted her body
- 44:10Speaker 6: on it because they had to get into a certain
- 44:12Speaker 6: angle and it didn't last more than fifteen minutes.
- 44:16Speaker 5: And they pulled the first baby out.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Wow, what do they do when they pulled the parcel
- 44:19Speaker 1: out handed to you?
- 44:20Speaker 5: No, not handed, they toss.
- 44:23Speaker 1: It to you. Yeah, say no, you're on a sports show,
- 44:25Speaker 1: you get so they say go do yeah?
- 44:26Speaker 5: Yeah no.
- 44:29Speaker 6: They pulled the baby out and then they bring them
- 44:32Speaker 6: no her she was first, brought her and showed her
- 44:35Speaker 6: us right over the tart basically, and then they were like, oh,
- 44:38Speaker 6: this is the girl who is and we're looking at
- 44:42Speaker 6: each other. We're like a girl I don't know, Like, well, no,
- 44:44Speaker 6: what's her name? And we're like, oh, Penelope. So they
- 44:47Speaker 6: had that and then two minutes later he came out,
- 44:49Speaker 6: same thing, and they're crying. The babies are crying, and
- 44:51Speaker 6: then they're just showing us and then they bring them
- 44:53Speaker 6: over to the way station.
- 44:54Speaker 1: They look like pink or green or anything.
- 44:56Speaker 6: Yeah, they're all kinds of different colors. Pink for the
- 44:58Speaker 6: most part. I got video I can show you now.
- 45:00Speaker 2: We're good man, fine, Okay.
- 45:01Speaker 5: You don't see anything, but it is. It's pretty wild.
- 45:03Speaker 5: And they look big too.
- 45:04Speaker 6: When they come out, and then they bring them over
- 45:06Speaker 6: to the way station and you know, clean them up
- 45:08Speaker 6: and everything, and I'm talking to her and she's like,
- 45:11Speaker 6: you know, she's crying and she's emotional, and they called
- 45:13Speaker 6: me over, you want to come see him for the
- 45:14Speaker 6: first time, and then I'm like, yeah, of course. I
- 45:16Speaker 6: walk over there, and they both weigh exactly five point
- 45:19Speaker 6: eight five pounds and eight ounces, which is crazy. All
- 45:22Speaker 6: the doctors and nurses in there are like, we've never
- 45:24Speaker 6: had this before, twins, Like they're the exact same weight.
- 45:27Speaker 6: And then the first time I look at him or her,
- 45:29Speaker 6: you know, I start crying for the first time.
- 45:31Speaker 5: And then they have me take a picture with the
- 45:33Speaker 5: weight right behind him, and the baby's just screaming.
- 45:35Speaker 6: And then I go over to the boy and the
- 45:37Speaker 6: same thing, take a picture with him and his weight
- 45:40Speaker 6: behind him. And then I go back to my wife
- 45:42Speaker 6: and we just start talking and she's you know, we're
- 45:45Speaker 6: just talking about how great it is. And then they
- 45:47Speaker 6: bring the babies over wrapped up. They let us hold
- 45:49Speaker 6: them right away as they're stitching her all up and everything,
- 45:51Speaker 6: and twenty minutes later I was out of there, or
- 45:54Speaker 6: we're out of there together.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Golf course.
- 45:58Speaker 6: That was and then yeah, then we go to a
- 46:02Speaker 6: two hour waiting room, recovery room, and then we went
- 46:04Speaker 6: up to our room. We were there for three days
- 46:06Speaker 6: at the hospital and it was exhausting for sure, especially
- 46:10Speaker 6: for her.
- 46:10Speaker 5: I mean, geez, did you sleep?
- 46:12Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 46:13Speaker 1: Where did you sleep?
- 46:14Speaker 5: On a couch?
- 46:15Speaker 6: They had a couch, but it was like a foot
- 46:18Speaker 6: tom basically like this big old cushion in the back,
- 46:20Speaker 6: folded down, and it was actually more comfortable than I
- 46:22Speaker 6: thought it would be. And then she was in the
- 46:24Speaker 6: bed the whole time. Luckily, they have and this is
- 46:26Speaker 6: for any like new dad or parents out there. They
- 46:29Speaker 6: have the nurse and the night nurses. So if you
- 46:30Speaker 6: liked be like, hey, can you guys take the babies
- 46:32Speaker 6: for a few hours and we'll sleep and they'll take
- 46:35Speaker 6: them and then they'll bring them back three hours later so
- 46:36Speaker 6: you can just sleep.
- 46:37Speaker 1: What theos they bring them back though?
- 46:40Speaker 2: Seventy? Pretty good?
- 46:41Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, I.
- 46:43Speaker 5: Never really thought about that.
- 46:45Speaker 6: It's a good thing I didn't take and so you
- 46:48Speaker 6: went home went home. Yeah, I got home three days later.
- 46:50Speaker 6: First night was rough. We tried to sleep in our
- 46:53Speaker 6: room with them on the side of the bed. Oh man,
- 46:56Speaker 6: and they were just you know, they would wake up.
- 46:57Speaker 6: They wake up every couple hours and you try to
- 46:59Speaker 6: feed them in the bed, but you're falling asleep as
- 47:01Speaker 6: you're trying to feed them, and you're just like, this.
- 47:03Speaker 5: Isn't good because you're gonna roll over on the baby. Maybe.
- 47:05Speaker 6: So then we figured out after two nights, this isn't
- 47:07Speaker 6: gonna work. You know, you're grumpy and you're you know,
- 47:09Speaker 6: getting mad at each other because you're grumpy and you're tired.
- 47:12Speaker 5: And then now we have the old tag team switch Arooo.
- 47:16Speaker 6: I come in middle of the night, she stays up
- 47:18Speaker 6: with them, and she goes up to sleep. So now
- 47:21Speaker 6: I come in at two in the morning, and then
- 47:24Speaker 6: she goes upstairs to bed, and then before work she
- 47:26Speaker 6: was up there till like seven or eight, and then
- 47:28Speaker 6: she come back down.
- 47:29Speaker 5: And then we tackled the day together.
- 47:31Speaker 1: And is one of them always crying?
- 47:35Speaker 6: No, honestly, they're pretty good. Like it's still early, so
- 47:38Speaker 6: I don't want to get ahead of myself, but the
- 47:40Speaker 6: girl's been acting up a little bit the last couple
- 47:42Speaker 6: of days.
- 47:42Speaker 1: She's got a little attitude.
- 47:44Speaker 7: Boy.
- 47:45Speaker 5: I was like, I was like, you're gonna give your
- 47:47Speaker 5: dad a heart attack.
- 47:48Speaker 1: Over here she's got a tattoo.
- 47:53Speaker 6: But they're both pretty dang good and we're we're happy
- 47:56Speaker 6: about that. They don't really scream or cry unless I'm
- 47:59Speaker 6: changing it or have the clothes off of them and
- 48:01Speaker 6: they're really cold, then they just start screaming. This as
- 48:04Speaker 6: soon as you put it back on them, they just
- 48:06Speaker 6: they get quiet again, and you just feed them again
- 48:07Speaker 6: and you put them down and off and rolling.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Kevin told me that two AM is like, oh man,
- 48:13Speaker 2: it's tough, like two AM feeding. Like they get a
- 48:15Speaker 2: PlayStation lifesaver what I.
- 48:18Speaker 6: Yeah, but like there's you don't really know there's enough
- 48:22Speaker 6: time to do anything.
- 48:23Speaker 5: Like I've tried to watch the show.
- 48:26Speaker 2: I know.
- 48:26Speaker 5: You just don't get in the flow of things, you know.
- 48:28Speaker 1: I hear. But Eddie used to just get on PlayStation.
- 48:31Speaker 2: It's like he would hear you can hear the baby crying,
- 48:32Speaker 2: like we'd be playing two K and you hear the
- 48:34Speaker 2: baby crying in the background in the background.
- 48:36Speaker 5: He's like, he's.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Right, God, alright, back, there's two I know.
- 48:43Speaker 6: So, I mean it takes a little over an hour
- 48:45Speaker 6: to feed and to burn them and to change their
- 48:48Speaker 6: diapers because there's two of them. So it takes a while.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Is the feeding going all right? Like, I know that's
- 48:52Speaker 2: the stressful time, Like you know, yeah, they're gonna latch?
- 48:55Speaker 2: Are they not gonna latch? Right?
- 48:57Speaker 6: Yeah? Yeah, I mean it's mostly the breast smoke is
- 49:00Speaker 6: what they're eating. Sometimes they lie, sometimes they don't. At
- 49:02Speaker 6: first they weren't at all, but they're getting better at
- 49:04Speaker 6: that and then now they're eating more, so that means
- 49:06Speaker 6: they're sleeping a little bit longer, and they're growing and
- 49:09Speaker 6: they're healthy. You took them to their first doctor's appointment
- 49:11Speaker 6: and everything, and she's like, they look great.
- 49:12Speaker 5: So that's all you want to hear at the end
- 49:13Speaker 5: of the day.
- 49:13Speaker 2: It's awesome.
- 49:14Speaker 7: Great.
- 49:14Speaker 1: Yeah, how tired are you right now?
- 49:17Speaker 5: I'm not that tired, but it's going to hit me
- 49:20Speaker 5: for sure. Every day.
- 49:21Speaker 6: It hits me in the afternoon, like just because it
- 49:23Speaker 6: getting up there. I don't know, we always get up early,
- 49:25Speaker 6: but even that much earlier your body just needs to adjust.
- 49:28Speaker 6: And I'm only a week and a half in or so,
- 49:30Speaker 6: so it.
- 49:31Speaker 5: Hits me in the afternoon. That's why I take my nap.
- 49:33Speaker 1: Did you ever feel overwhelmed? M If the answer is
- 49:37Speaker 1: the answer is no, no, because that's usually oh god, yeah, immediately.
- 49:42Speaker 6: No, even my dad and Alex, my wife. She was
- 49:45Speaker 6: like when I was changing diapers and swaddling them in
- 49:48Speaker 6: the hospital because she couldn't do anything for like first
- 49:50Speaker 6: two days. She was just in bed recovering, and I
- 49:53Speaker 6: was just watching the nurses, which wild is the nurses
- 49:55Speaker 6: like they know what they're doing obviously, but they throw
- 49:57Speaker 6: these babies around and they like, you know.
- 49:59Speaker 5: What I mean.
- 49:59Speaker 6: So I'm like, all right, well they're doing it, then
- 50:02Speaker 6: I do.
- 50:03Speaker 1: So with twins though, like, do you haven'tenough diapers?
- 50:06Speaker 6: Yeah, we had to buy a lot more. After three
- 50:08Speaker 6: four days, I think.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Oh, you're low now, okay we were, Yeah, we were low.
- 50:13Speaker 6: Now we got I think six or seven new bags
- 50:17Speaker 6: of ninety something. You go through so many because sometimes
- 50:20Speaker 6: you go through three and one changing. It's just they
- 50:24Speaker 6: keep going and they keep going. Oh the best though,
- 50:28Speaker 6: staying out of the line of the fire. The boy,
- 50:29Speaker 6: you know, because once he starts peeing.
- 50:33Speaker 2: You got you're gonna learn to put a wipe on it.
- 50:36Speaker 6: But the first time he was laying there and her
- 50:39Speaker 6: dog was sitting in right like near his head, and
- 50:41Speaker 6: she's got a little little, tiny dog, and he starts
- 50:44Speaker 6: peeing and it nails a dog. Right, We're just trying
- 50:48Speaker 6: to tell the dog. So we learned quickly. Luckily he
- 50:51Speaker 6: got the front of it.
- 50:52Speaker 1: But uh, do you have your role yet?
- 50:55Speaker 5: Yeah? My role is to be the male figure.
- 50:59Speaker 6: And this is what I've learned over the last couple
- 51:00Speaker 6: of weeks is like, as a female, they are much
- 51:04Speaker 6: better at nurturing, you know, than we are as males.
- 51:08Speaker 6: We want to like play with them and I don't know,
- 51:10Speaker 6: do like stuff with them, but all they need right
- 51:12Speaker 6: now is just nurturing, just literally holding, feeding, changing and
- 51:17Speaker 6: all that stuff, which I do. But the grandma's I mean,
- 51:21Speaker 6: they could sit there for three hours with the baby
- 51:22Speaker 6: in their hand, like I'm like.
- 51:24Speaker 5: All right cool.
- 51:25Speaker 6: So for me, I've known my role as a male
- 51:28Speaker 6: to be more of like whatever you need, you know,
- 51:30Speaker 6: I'm changing, I'm feeding, I'm cooking dinner, I'm cooking breakfast,
- 51:33Speaker 6: whatever it might be. While the females love that nurturing role,
- 51:36Speaker 6: so I've just kind of let them also take that
- 51:38Speaker 6: and just kind of go in whenever I need it.
- 51:41Speaker 1: But they're leaving too, the family members, so it's about
- 51:43Speaker 1: to get a little more real.
- 51:44Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 51:45Speaker 5: Yeah, Luckily one staying still, but it's she's.
- 51:49Speaker 6: Still got like another she's got a place here now,
- 51:52Speaker 6: so she's kind.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Of come.
- 51:54Speaker 2: Until they go to college.
- 51:57Speaker 6: The best is of my dad there is just like
- 52:00Speaker 6: you know, he's just typical like Grandpa.
- 52:02Speaker 5: He's like used to hold him but like I'm not
- 52:03Speaker 5: changing a typer or nothing.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Yeah, well, congratulations, buddy, thank you.
- 52:08Speaker 2: I think what was cool too, is like they look
- 52:10Speaker 2: like you. So I was a little worried about of.
- 52:12Speaker 1: Course they're bald or babies.
- 52:15Speaker 6: What do you expect He's got more hair than I we.
- 52:20Speaker 1: I was talking to Matt Castle, who we do a
- 52:23Speaker 1: different podcast together called Lots to Say in both of us,
- 52:26Speaker 1: and I totally eliminated Kevin from even communicating with him
- 52:30Speaker 1: because even in a text of the group text, it
- 52:31Speaker 1: was like, hey, we didn't respond.
- 52:33Speaker 5: I know, it's like, dang.
- 52:34Speaker 1: We we decided we are not even messaging Kevin even
- 52:38Speaker 1: back unless he's like, can you help me my kid?
- 52:41Speaker 1: Is I'm falling? If it wasn't that, we weren't messaging
- 52:45Speaker 1: back because we wanted nothing to be in his world
- 52:47Speaker 1: in this periphery at all about work. That's nice of
- 52:50Speaker 1: you guys and so, but even you know this show.
- 52:52Speaker 1: I emailed him finally on like what's Thursday, On like
- 52:55Speaker 1: Tuesday night, I was like, hey, you're back yet, But
- 52:58Speaker 1: when you're back here because he sent me some stuff
- 53:01Speaker 1: before he left, I said, here's the things, but don't
- 53:02Speaker 1: even look at this email until then. So I told
- 53:04Speaker 1: you before you left, don't even think about work because
- 53:07Speaker 1: you wanted to still think about work. Do you think
- 53:08Speaker 1: you could have thought about work?
- 53:10Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 53:10Speaker 1: Do you think so?
- 53:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 53:11Speaker 6: Well, okay, you might. You could probably relate to this too.
- 53:15Speaker 6: Some might struggle with at the beginning. For sure, is
- 53:17Speaker 6: like when you're gone, like you almost feel I know this,
- 53:21Speaker 6: this is not a healthy thing. But you're like, well
- 53:24Speaker 6: what if I'm gone for two weeks? And like the
- 53:25Speaker 6: podcast as well, and then like they're like, you know what, Kevin,
- 53:27Speaker 6: we don't even need you. Yeah you know, And I
- 53:29Speaker 6: literally I literally had a dream like that where the
- 53:32Speaker 6: rating has been better than ever exactly.
- 53:34Speaker 2: I didn't want to tell you, but then.
- 53:35Speaker 6: That starts going through your head and I'm like, no,
- 53:37Speaker 6: I gotta get back, I gotta get back. But after
- 53:39Speaker 6: a few days and everything, I was fine. I was
- 53:42Speaker 6: also locked out of my work email, which helped I
- 53:44Speaker 6: wasn't even allowed to sign in.
- 53:45Speaker 5: They kicked me out. No way, I did not know.
- 53:48Speaker 6: I hard did that and I couldn't even So was
- 53:51Speaker 6: the email I sent you to your work email?
- 53:53Speaker 5: Yeah, so I didn't even see it until I could
- 53:54Speaker 5: get back here.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Perfect because I wrote on there, do not look at
- 53:56Speaker 1: this until it's time to get back into email.
- 53:58Speaker 5: Yeah that's great.
- 53:59Speaker 1: I get locked up because I said that because I
- 54:00Speaker 1: do run the company, the whole company, when I wrote
- 54:02Speaker 1: it in the email, you can look at this until
- 54:04Speaker 1: it's time to be over. Huh.
- 54:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 54:06Speaker 6: So I didn't know that was a thing until like
- 54:07Speaker 6: two days in and I was like, wait, I can't
- 54:09Speaker 6: sign and then all of a sudden I realized, so
- 54:11Speaker 6: I can't get into anything.
- 54:13Speaker 1: Did you happen to watch the Brett farbre documentary while.
- 54:16Speaker 5: You're yes, have you guys seen it?
- 54:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah?
- 54:18Speaker 5: Oh have you talked about it or anything?
- 54:21Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 54:21Speaker 1: We talked about it, talking about it freely, and uh.
- 54:24Speaker 6: It made me, I mean, like so many others, he
- 54:26Speaker 6: was a hero of mine, you know, growing up, especially
- 54:28Speaker 6: when nineties baby and my first suit ball remember is
- 54:31Speaker 6: actually them whooping on the Patriots.
- 54:32Speaker 5: But Brett Faarr was awesome. Great to watch.
- 54:35Speaker 6: He got a little sour with me when he started
- 54:37Speaker 6: doing the whole retire unretired, kind of like Roger's thing.
- 54:39Speaker 5: But I still love the guy. I loved him as
- 54:41Speaker 5: a quarterback.
- 54:41Speaker 6: And then you always hear you know, he's not the
- 54:43Speaker 6: best person in This whole scandal came out a few
- 54:45Speaker 6: years ago and then I watched this and I'm like, dude,
- 54:48Speaker 6: this guy is awful, awful and like it put. I
- 54:52Speaker 6: told my wife and I was like, this is somebody
- 54:54Speaker 6: I looked up to my whole life, and like, I
- 54:57Speaker 6: can't stand now he's a hero of mine and now
- 54:59Speaker 6: that entire like legacy that I had built in my
- 55:02Speaker 6: head and took me a while to even get there.
- 55:04Speaker 6: Pretty much the whole documentary, I finally realized, you know what, actually,
- 55:07Speaker 6: don't you should.
- 55:08Speaker 5: Not like this guy?
- 55:09Speaker 1: Com scombag, Yeah like that.
- 55:11Speaker 2: Did you know that he never met the girl that
- 55:14Speaker 2: was wild? That was wild to me too, Yeah.
- 55:17Speaker 1: Because I would have thought they had met and flirted
- 55:19Speaker 1: or he liked it was like, oh, I like that,
- 55:20Speaker 1: and then tracked her number down because he met her,
- 55:22Speaker 1: And then it was a disgusting pick not that he
- 55:23Speaker 1: had never.
- 55:24Speaker 5: Ye like he interviewed him or I don't know.
- 55:26Speaker 1: That was his introduction to her, Like here's it makes
- 55:29Speaker 1: you wonder how many other people he did that too, Yeah,
- 55:32Speaker 1: because I'm sure that wasn't the first time. Yeah, and
- 55:34Speaker 1: just based off how humans work, I'm sure he's like, no,
- 55:37Speaker 1: I have this great idea, but for the first time ever,
- 55:39Speaker 1: for this one girl, here's a picture on my penists, idea,
- 55:42Speaker 1: try it.
- 55:42Speaker 6: And he's so dumb, like the text messages and the voicemails,
- 55:45Speaker 6: and I'm like, you're such an idiot too, Like that's
- 55:50Speaker 6: when you know you're just arrogant and you think the
- 55:52Speaker 6: world revolves.
- 55:54Speaker 2: That's the theme, right, that's the theme of the documentary
- 55:56Speaker 2: of just like when you're in that position you're a
- 55:58Speaker 2: god and you can do no wrong, and you you
- 56:00Speaker 2: act like that. You see.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Sean Camp's in trouble.
- 56:03Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, Yeah, he's he's waiting to be sentenced. I mean,
- 56:06Speaker 2: he's convicted.
- 56:07Speaker 1: He pleaded guilty to two men sitting in a car
- 56:10Speaker 1: shooting at the two men sitting in a car in
- 56:13Speaker 1: a parking lot.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Was heard didn't know much about it, but the way
- 56:16Speaker 2: the story goes is that his truck got robbed and
- 56:21Speaker 2: they stole all kinds of things, jerseys, signed jerseys, just
- 56:24Speaker 2: things that he had in his truck, including his cell phone,
- 56:26Speaker 2: which he was able to track. So he tracked the phone.
- 56:30Speaker 2: It led him to a car that was parked at
- 56:33Speaker 2: the mall. There's two dudes in it there they are
- 56:36Speaker 2: the thieves, and he says he pulls up and somebody
- 56:39Speaker 2: in the backseat of that car shoots at them first,
- 56:41Speaker 2: and then Sean Kemp returns fire.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Any video evidence to support that claim, because I feel
- 56:46Speaker 1: like if there was, he wouldn't have pleaded guilty.
- 56:49Speaker 2: I think he's putting guilty to taking the shots. He's saying,
- 56:52Speaker 2: I had a gun and I did shoot at them,
- 56:53Speaker 2: but they shot at me first.
- 56:55Speaker 1: But if they shoot first, isn't it self defense after that? Yeah,
- 56:58Speaker 1: unless you're not supposed to have the gun, right, And
- 57:00Speaker 1: I don't think he's a fellon, so he could have
- 57:03Speaker 1: a gun if he's not a fellon. He'll be sentenced
- 57:05Speaker 1: in August.
- 57:07Speaker 2: And that's crazy too to me, like that, your your
- 57:10Speaker 2: cases done, You've already played it guilty, and now you've
- 57:13Speaker 2: got to just sit and wait for a whole month
- 57:15Speaker 2: to see how long you're gonna be in prison.
- 57:17Speaker 1: Yeah, different different trial times.
- 57:18Speaker 5: Yeah, imagine what goes through your head.
- 57:21Speaker 1: One other thing, real quick. Memorial Day weekend was us
- 57:24Speaker 1: last weekend and Eddie's coaching and watch the six year olds.
- 57:26Speaker 2: Yeah, my son's a basketball team.
- 57:28Speaker 1: Yeah ye old yeah, I didn't know you had practiced
- 57:29Speaker 1: our memoriald at weekend.
- 57:31Speaker 2: Look, dude, I came on here and said, I said, like,
- 57:34Speaker 2: you know, I don't. We're probably not gonna win whatever.
- 57:36Speaker 2: They're six year olds, no big deal. I've seen my roster.
- 57:39Speaker 1: Now.
- 57:40Speaker 2: We have ten kids on the team. I would say
- 57:43Speaker 2: eight of them are ballers. Two of them are just young.
- 57:46Speaker 2: They'll be good eventually, but they right now, they just
- 57:49Speaker 2: don't have the basic skills of basketball. They will be
- 57:52Speaker 2: good because they're athletic. After meeting my team, I'm convinced
- 57:57Speaker 2: that we're going to win the whole thing. So I
- 57:59Speaker 2: don't care of its Memorial Day weekend.
- 58:01Speaker 1: There's six fourth of July. Families can't have to drive
- 58:04Speaker 1: them there. Yeah, I called a practice. I know that's
- 58:07Speaker 1: the dumbest thing.
- 58:07Speaker 2: Because we practice on Sundays and it doesn't matter if it's
- 58:10Speaker 2: Memorial Day weekend. I called a practice on Sunday and
- 58:13Speaker 2: four kids showed up and I'm like, you guys are
- 58:15Speaker 2: my four starters? It was and one dad he pulls that.
- 58:20Speaker 2: He came out a little lady's like, you know, man,
- 58:22Speaker 2: I was surprised that you was like, wanted to do
- 58:24Speaker 2: a practice on Sunday light. We want to win, don't we.
- 58:26Speaker 1: He was like, like, I feel you and I understand
- 58:30Speaker 1: your sentiment completely. If there were sixteen or seventeen six no, no, no,
- 58:35Speaker 1: I know if there were sixteen or seventy because I
- 58:37Speaker 1: could drive themselves and their whole family doesn't have to
- 58:39Speaker 1: not have vacation or have to change their plans to
- 58:41Speaker 1: bring their kids.
- 58:42Speaker 2: There is one family that has to drive an hour
- 58:45Speaker 2: and a half.
- 58:45Speaker 9: They show up, they were there startry practice or the starter,
- 58:48Speaker 9: and their kid is awesome.
- 58:50Speaker 2: We're all that why he's awesome.
- 58:52Speaker 1: But we're all four of the kids that showed up awesome.
- 58:55Speaker 2: There's one that he.
- 58:56Speaker 1: Gets to start into.
- 58:57Speaker 2: He started that.
- 58:58Speaker 1: I don't think he analyzed kids who couldn't come on
- 59:00Speaker 1: Royal Day because their parents already had plans to go
- 59:01Speaker 1: to town.
- 59:01Speaker 2: I gonna take it seriously. I won't take the starting
- 59:03Speaker 2: lineup serious.
- 59:04Speaker 1: Tell them there is nobody more unhealthily competitive than me.
- 59:09Speaker 1: And even I'm like, there's six and it's a holiday weekend.
- 59:12Speaker 2: You know, like before and after practice or even before
- 59:15Speaker 2: the games, like we have a little huddle in Little
- 59:16Speaker 2: pow Wow, and most most of the time the parents
- 59:19Speaker 2: don't come to the power. I can literally just talk
- 59:21Speaker 2: to the kids about anything we talk about, like what
- 59:23Speaker 2: did you do this weekend? What's your favorite food? Like
- 59:25Speaker 2: introduce yourself to the players whatever. I might talk to
- 59:28Speaker 2: me and be like, how important do you want this?
- 59:31Speaker 2: But they're six, and then I want to.
- 59:33Speaker 9: Tell them too, like if you even know what the
- 59:34Speaker 9: word important means, right, I have to spell it out
- 59:37Speaker 9: for them. Yeah, but I want to tell them too,
- 59:39Speaker 9: like tell your parents how much you love this game,
- 59:42Speaker 9: tell your parents how much you want to be a practice,
- 59:44Speaker 9: tell your parents that you don't want to be late
- 59:46Speaker 9: to practice.
- 59:47Speaker 2: Boom, you're in charge. I'm gonna tell the kids you're
- 59:50Speaker 2: in charge of your destiny.
- 59:51Speaker 1: But that's not true. They're six.
- 59:53Speaker 2: Yeah, say you're right, you're right.
- 59:55Speaker 1: They still pee the bed for the most part.
- 59:56Speaker 7: Right, you're right it, But I.
- 59:58Speaker 1: Don't love it cause I think there's a line. But
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: you got to build that.
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: Oh, whoa, whoa, you're a new dad. What do you?
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: What do you?
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: What do you?
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I probably would have purposely not gone to practice,
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: absolutely just to be like, this guy really wants to
- 1:00:11Speaker 6: do this on the Memorial weekend.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: They're the first grader.
- 1:00:14Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and again I'm unhealthy and I STI would have
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: been like their first grader, what the heck's happening here?
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: You wouldn't You wouldn't hold a practice.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: I would have called a voluntary voluntary shoot around for
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: anybody on the team that wants to come.
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: That's a that's a good goal.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: I mean I was already banking on that. If like
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: only two kids showed up, we're.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: Not making That's what I would say. If you have
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: a voluntary shoot around for anybody that still wants to come,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: We're going to have a voluntary practice.
- 1:00:37Speaker 6: Yeah, if you guys aren't traveling this weekend, coming out,
- 1:00:39Speaker 6: get some shots in.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: No, I did say if you're available, No, you had
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: a practice, You didnt And.
- 1:00:44Speaker 5: You wanted to see their commitment.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Yes, they got for not coming. We're done.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: You watch, We're gonna win the whole thing. Dude, with
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: these four players.
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: You watch with these four players, the commuted startups. That's
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: the one at all, because they didn't come. Only four.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: You show up, only four. You play it where you guys.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Have a great weekend. We will see you Monday. Kevin, congratulations,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Thank you, Eddie, Brandon Ready to head off.

- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: No? No?
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: I bring the twins, Yeah, bring them on, yeah, I
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: should huh ye, get them started early.
