Summer jobs for teens are way down from past decades, with just over a third now working—down from more than half in 2000—but this year’s numbers are actually better than the record lows seen around 2011. Teen unemployment has dipped to 12.1% in July, even as more teens stay in the job market. The drop is fueled by busy schedules filled with school, volunteering, and unpaid internships—and fewer easy entry-level gigs.
