Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Darren.
- 0:07Speaker 2: All right, well, if it's Tuesday, Oh wow, if it's Tuesday,
- 0:10Speaker 2: it's Terminello's take here on the Alex gart Podcast Hour.
- 0:13Speaker 2: How do you like that ring Tuesday? Terminello's take.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Oh, we have a lot of teas there, Alex, thank
- 0:19Speaker 1: you for having me back. I always look forward to it.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I love alliterations. There you go to Terminello Tuesday. It's
- 0:25Speaker 2: good now, mister Terminello. First things first, the Giants won.
- 0:29Speaker 2: That's great. I'm more wondering what happened to the Commanders
- 0:32Speaker 2: because they had won on seven straight field goals all
- 0:36Speaker 2: week ago, and now all of a sudden, Jane Daniels
- 0:39Speaker 2: looks like he's running with his heisman, you know, skills
- 0:42Speaker 2: into the NFL. H I don't think the Commanders are
- 0:45Speaker 2: a fluke, are they?
- 0:47Speaker 1: Well? A couple of things in my observation last night
- 0:50Speaker 1: watching Daniels, I'm watching the Commander's offense. It looks like
- 0:57Speaker 1: Cliff Kingsbury, the former Arizona co the former Texas Tech coach,
- 1:02Speaker 1: is the perfect offensive coordinator for young Daniels. He's aggressive
- 1:08Speaker 1: as a play caller, he's creative as a play caller,
- 1:14Speaker 1: it's a perfect match for a young quarterback. And we
- 1:16Speaker 1: say young quarterback, unlike some of these other young quarterbacks
- 1:20Speaker 1: that come into league. And Joe Buck mentioned the song
- 1:23Speaker 1: on telecast last night. Jadon Daniels played fifty five college games.
- 1:28Speaker 1: That doesn't really happen that much anymore. So he has
- 1:31Speaker 1: a little bit of a He has more playing experience
- 1:34Speaker 1: game experience than most. But we'll have to see if
- 1:39Speaker 1: he's taken that big leap. He's obviously after three weeks,
- 1:43Speaker 1: the best of the three quarterbacks who are starting as rookies.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And I am so disappointed in the Caleb Williams Williams experience.
- 1:54Speaker 2: And you know what, because he has such a showy
- 1:56Speaker 2: draft party, I'm a little this point. And will Levis,
- 1:59Speaker 2: you know, he had this big show he's seen when
- 2:00Speaker 2: he got drafted and now he's just he's struggling. I
- 2:03Speaker 2: get their first year and rookie quarterbacks, but you know,
- 2:07Speaker 2: they portrayed themselves as these great athletes, I can handle anything,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and they've just looked flustered.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Well again, probably they shouldn't be playing, they probably should
- 2:18Speaker 1: be watching and learning. But Jay and Daniels was spectacular
- 2:23Speaker 1: last night. He was twenty one out of twenty three.
- 2:27Speaker 1: He might Last year c J Stroud had a great
- 2:31Speaker 1: rookie year. There was no learning curve for CJ. Stroud.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Is this going to be Jaden Daniels. I don't know.
- 2:40Speaker 1: I don't know if that's gonna happen, But I'm sure
- 2:44Speaker 1: that anybody who's a Commanders fan right now are happy
- 2:48Speaker 1: that they made They made the right pick. And believe me,
- 2:50Speaker 1: coaching makes a difference. Do you realize that in last
- 2:54Speaker 1: night's game between Washington Cincinnati was the first time there
- 2:57Speaker 1: wasn't a punt in an NFL game.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Neither neither were a turnover. I was hearing that was unbelievable.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, since nineteen seventy. And you know another thing Cincinnati's
- 3:08Speaker 1: issues has nothing to do with Joe Burrow. He hasn't
- 3:11Speaker 1: thrown interception this year. He's had big games. They they
- 3:15Speaker 1: outplayed Kansas City last week. But I could tell you
- 3:18Speaker 1: one thing. Their defense is terrible. Not that Washington is great,
- 3:22Speaker 1: but Washington wasn't supposed to be anywhere near a contender.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Cincinnati is. Yes, it's only three weeks. You can turn
- 3:29Speaker 1: it around, but oh and three is Owen three?
- 3:34Speaker 2: And yeah, and you could tell Burrow is very frustrated.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Like I could just tell he looks frush. I mean,
- 3:40Speaker 2: I actually almost had four touchdowns, which pretty pretty good
- 3:43Speaker 2: for him.
- 3:43Speaker 1: He was Barrow was great last night, but they they
- 3:47Speaker 1: couldn't stop anything. The Cincinnati defense, they were terrible.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Well, and the thing is, I'm fourth down. I was thinking, Okay,
- 3:54Speaker 2: maybe now they'll just because obviously Daniels are gonna run,
- 3:58Speaker 2: that's the play. But fitn't adjust at all. They just
- 4:00Speaker 2: let him keep running all over the place. It was
- 4:02Speaker 2: kind of like, you know, as a defensive coordinator, you
- 4:05Speaker 2: would think to stop the run, or is Jaden that good?
- 4:09Speaker 1: Well again, dan Quinn and the coaches knew that. And
- 4:16Speaker 1: if on fourth and four late in the game, if
- 4:19Speaker 1: he punted Beryl, probably scores for Cincinnati and they win.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I mean, these coaches know the temperature of the game,
- 4:27Speaker 1: the pulse of the game. And like I said, there
- 4:29Speaker 1: wasn't a punt in last night's game. But so Daniels
- 4:34Speaker 1: threw a bullet to zach Ertz first down, and then
- 4:37Speaker 1: he threw that killer pass that really ended the game.
- 4:41Speaker 1: And uh, you got to give it to him, the kid.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I guess that zach Ertz, cause remember he was kind
- 4:47Speaker 2: of under the radar after his Eagles career. Now he's
- 4:50Speaker 2: out there with Washington.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yeah. No, they did a nice job last night. Is
- 4:54Speaker 1: it just a one a one time thing. We'll see,
- 4:58Speaker 1: But that was that was impressive. But the Cincinnati defense
- 5:02Speaker 1: was terrible, almost as bad as Dallas's defense has been.
- 5:08Speaker 1: The Cowboys have been absolutely obliterated physically by the Ravens.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Passed wee can have given up five hundred and fifty
- 5:18Speaker 1: seven yards at first three games of the rushing. The
- 5:22Speaker 1: last time that happened Alex was nineteen sixty three when
- 5:25Speaker 1: they were a fourth year expansion team, and as I
- 5:27Speaker 1: always harp upon expansion teams in those years, it was
- 5:31Speaker 1: definitely a four to five six year build up to
- 5:34Speaker 1: becoming a decent team. So Dallas has a lot of problems.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And it's not Dak Prescott.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Well, no, they put up twenty five points against the
- 5:43Speaker 2: Ravens and you know, the defense gave up forty seven,
- 5:48Speaker 2: right or something to the same forty seven the week before.
- 5:52Speaker 2: So obviously that McCarthy defense is not too well now.
- 5:56Speaker 1: And they's small, Alex, They're physically small.
- 5:59Speaker 2: As a Giant fan, you know, full disclosure here if
- 6:03Speaker 2: you have noticed already, a formula Washington team kind of
- 6:09Speaker 2: unnerves should unnerve Giant fans because you know, every year
- 6:12Speaker 2: they're used to beating the Commanders. That's their two wins, right,
- 6:15Speaker 2: that's kind of two givens. This year not so much
- 6:18Speaker 2: that first week and seeing them be formidable should wake
- 6:22Speaker 2: the Giants coaching staff up, and maybe when they face
- 6:25Speaker 2: them again at MetLife, they'll they'll clamp down on the
- 6:28Speaker 2: Washington offense. There we'll see.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Well again we all know is the Washing offense is
- 6:33Speaker 1: going to be even better than it is now as
- 6:35Speaker 1: Daniels gets more accustomed to the coaching staff and has
- 6:40Speaker 1: more reps in NFL games. We'll see. But again, the
- 6:44Speaker 1: one thing we talk about every week, and we saw
- 6:45Speaker 1: it again this week. One week, ninety nine percent of
- 6:50Speaker 1: time has nothing to do with the other. Here it
- 6:52Speaker 1: is last week the Raiders going to Baltimore, they're down
- 6:56Speaker 1: twenty three to thirteen with nine minutes to go. The
- 6:59Speaker 1: Raiders come back to beat the Ravens. And now this
- 7:02Speaker 1: week against at home against the Panthers, who were just pathetic.
- 7:08Speaker 1: They made a big change at quarterback, which obviously helped,
- 7:11Speaker 1: and they were losing thirty three to seven. The final
- 7:13Speaker 1: store was thirty six to twenty two. Alex. The game
- 7:16Speaker 1: was nowhere that close. It was an old fashioned ass
- 7:20Speaker 1: whipping by the Panthers, and.
- 7:24Speaker 2: They needed that because remember they've been having so much
- 7:26Speaker 2: controversy with Bryce Young sitting and being benched, and now
- 7:30Speaker 2: you know they gotta go back up. And boy oh boy,
- 7:32Speaker 2: you talk about a team that needed that, it was
- 7:34Speaker 2: the Panthers.
- 7:36Speaker 1: No, no, no question about about it. And my first
- 7:41Speaker 1: chaut out of the day was the Cliff Kingsbury for
- 7:43Speaker 1: what how he the game planned last night. My second
- 7:46Speaker 1: shout out is going to be Andy Dalton. Here's a guy.
- 7:50Speaker 1: His first seven years in the league, he quarterback the
- 7:52Speaker 1: Bengals to the playoffs six times. He's underrated. He's always
- 7:56Speaker 1: been underrated, even in college. I think he's the best
- 8:00Speaker 1: backup quarterback in the NFL. And I am shocked that
- 8:03Speaker 1: a more established team did not jump in and get
- 8:07Speaker 1: Andy Dolton as their backup, because you always need backups
- 8:11Speaker 1: in the NFL.
- 8:13Speaker 2: So and remember now in Atlanta, I think of them
- 8:16Speaker 2: because they kept it close against the Chiefs, but I'm
- 8:19Speaker 2: thinking of what they're doing down there, which is actually
- 8:22Speaker 2: having Pennix junior watch Kirk. I think you talk about
- 8:26Speaker 2: rookie quarterbacks not watching the elders. I think that's a
- 8:31Speaker 2: great move by Lanta. Let him just watch Cousins work.
- 8:34Speaker 2: That's a great strategy.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I agree, And you know it was controversial. We talked
- 8:38Speaker 1: about it during the draft that they picked them, but
- 8:41Speaker 1: you see, with all these injuries to quarterbacks, you have
- 8:44Speaker 1: to have you have to have a backup, and they
- 8:46Speaker 1: did the right thing Atlanta when they picked Pennix. And
- 8:48Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw the game the other night, Alex,
- 8:51Speaker 1: but the Chiefs for the beneficial beneficiary of a horrendous
- 8:55Speaker 1: pass interference call that wasn't called and would have given
- 8:59Speaker 1: the Falcons first down at the one late in the
- 9:02Speaker 1: game and a potential win for Atlanta. Kansas City is
- 9:06Speaker 1: three and oh. And the scary part is for the league.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Kansay is three and oh, and they have played poorly
- 9:11Speaker 1: in all three games. They have not played like Kansas City.
- 9:14Speaker 2: So either I respect Mahomes for voicing that, Like he's
- 9:18Speaker 2: not saying they're perfect, he's saying there's got a lot
- 9:20Speaker 2: of work to do. He's recognizing it. And now, of
- 9:24Speaker 2: course the fan bases are all like, wow, the Zebras
- 9:26Speaker 2: are per case, and I guess the last three weeks
- 9:29Speaker 2: there have been calls that make you think so.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Well, if you remember when the Jets came back from
- 9:34Speaker 1: seventeen to nothing down with Zach Wilson as their quarterback,
- 9:38Speaker 1: there was a couple of creative calls against the Jets
- 9:44Speaker 1: that helped Kansas City escape with a twenty three to
- 9:48Speaker 1: twenty win last year. So again, you know, I don't
- 9:51Speaker 1: want to say that the league is favoring them. It
- 9:54Speaker 1: just let's just put it this way. The Kansas City
- 9:56Speaker 1: Chiefs are so good they don't need any help, and
- 9:59Speaker 1: they got a big health the other night.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Although Travis might he looks a little dejected on the sideline.
- 10:03Speaker 2: He's not at the best year. Is there relationship problems?
- 10:07Speaker 2: I don't want to go there, but I know I
- 10:08Speaker 2: don't think.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I don't think there's relationship I don't know if there's
- 10:10Speaker 1: relationship problems. But I could tell you there's a rumor
- 10:13Speaker 1: that he's out of shape. So maybe you know, uh
- 10:16Speaker 1: popping around the world to all of uh Taylor Swifts
- 10:20Speaker 1: concerts and stuff like that. Yeah, that his mind may
- 10:24Speaker 1: not be on football, But You're right, Alex, he does
- 10:27Speaker 1: not look like the same guy. Now again, maybe he'll
- 10:30Speaker 1: get back into shape. I mean, there was no better
- 10:32Speaker 1: chemistry pair quarterback to receiver than Mahomes and uh and
- 10:39Speaker 1: Travis Kelcey. So we got to keep an eye on that.
- 10:42Speaker 1: But so far, he looks like just another another tight end,
- 10:47Speaker 1: not even to the level that he's been for all
- 10:50Speaker 1: his career. So so we'll we'll see.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Well, well, you know we're missing We're missing a couple
- 10:56Speaker 2: of big games here, and obviously let's start out with
- 10:59Speaker 2: your Jets. Aaron Rodgers looking like the Aaron Rodgers that
- 11:02Speaker 2: everybody thought he would be. I would say he looks
- 11:06Speaker 2: fully recovered. He almost threw three hundred yards, I mean
- 11:09Speaker 2: three hundred yards. What were your thoughts on his dominant performance,
- 11:13Speaker 2: the Jets dominant performance. He has a Patriot team, they
- 11:15Speaker 2: never dominate. So it was fun to watch, wasn't it.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Absolutely? And yes, we know this is not a Patriot
- 11:22Speaker 1: team of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, but just to
- 11:26Speaker 1: have Aaron Rodgers out there and he was in total
- 11:29Speaker 1: command of the game. I mean, so many times Jets
- 11:33Speaker 1: were in third and long and he converted. He was
- 11:36Speaker 1: eight for eight throwing on the run and everybody was
- 11:40Speaker 1: so afraid thanks lost his mobility. They control the clock,
- 11:47Speaker 1: I mean they had. The Patriots have no threat offensively
- 11:52Speaker 1: against a team like the Jets, So playing that very
- 11:55Speaker 1: tough schedule of three games in eleven days is behind them.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Now they get Vanila of a ten day break before.
- 12:03Speaker 1: They played at Denver Broncos a week from a week
- 12:06Speaker 1: from Sunday. And whoever thought that Denver Broncos would have
- 12:10Speaker 1: a win coming in to the Meadowlands next week? They
- 12:14Speaker 1: totally dominated a Tampa Bay team which won in Detroit
- 12:18Speaker 1: the week before. So it's like always say, this is
- 12:23Speaker 1: truly a week to week league. I never would have
- 12:27Speaker 1: picked Denver to win at Tampa Bay, and they won easily.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Tampa Bay was putrid on.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Denver. And you know, I bo Nix is
- 12:36Speaker 2: a guy that has been highly a high prospect in
- 12:40Speaker 2: the and he finally picked there. By the way, I've
- 12:41Speaker 2: got Ryan here, he works with me at the station.
- 12:44Speaker 2: He was at the game on Thursday. Ryan, real quick,
- 12:46Speaker 2: what were your thoughts?
- 12:47Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, I mean it was quite the refresher
- 12:50Speaker 3: to actually see the Jets dominate the Patriots for once Now,
- 12:54Speaker 3: this was not the same old Jets team that I've
- 12:56Speaker 3: grown up seeing for years and years, but with Rogers
- 12:59Speaker 3: on your center, looked like a completely new squad actually
- 13:04Speaker 3: throwing two receivers who can catch and Thursday, I believe
- 13:08Speaker 3: it was actually the first time in Aaron Rodgers' career
- 13:10Speaker 3: that he threw a touchdown to a wide receiver drafted
- 13:13Speaker 3: in the first round.
- 13:14Speaker 1: That is correct, You are correct. That is insane. When
- 13:18Speaker 1: I heard that. When I heard that, I was Floyd. Yeah,
- 13:21Speaker 1: that that that little less that is one correct and
- 13:24Speaker 1: that pass that passing through. Not too many quarterbacks can
- 13:27Speaker 1: complete that passing.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Through to Garret and then he and I and then
- 13:31Speaker 2: we all we we were the Ama bradshaw N Sunday
- 13:34Speaker 2: watching the Giants. I mean, the Giants gave us a
- 13:37Speaker 2: bit of a scare there. Uh, but to build up
- 13:39Speaker 2: that twenty one point lee, you know, twenty one points
- 13:42Speaker 2: in the first half, that's all they really needed, I guess.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Yeah. But before we get to the Giants, the chemistry
- 13:48Speaker 1: between Garrett Wilson and Rogers, mark my words, it's gonna
- 13:53Speaker 1: get better. There's a couple of games, maybe midseason. Garrett
- 13:57Speaker 1: Wilson is going to have some amazing, amazing stat line
- 14:03Speaker 1: the passing court the other day, Like I said, maybe
- 14:06Speaker 1: only one or two quarterbacks the NFL can throw that pass.
- 14:09Speaker 1: So obviously I'm a Jet fan. I was. I was
- 14:14Speaker 1: very happy. But I'm taking it as a as a
- 14:16Speaker 1: paranoid Jet fan, Ryan. I'm taking the possession by possession, Alex.
- 14:21Speaker 1: That's the only thing I can do. Possession by possession.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Oh, I now call it down by down. That's how
- 14:26Speaker 2: you got to protect giants.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and the Giant guy get the Giants credit. They overcame.
- 14:31Speaker 1: They came, that overcame that fumble on the opening kickoff
- 14:34Speaker 1: which could have really knocked the win out of them.
- 14:39Speaker 1: And I thought that Daniel Jones had had a nice game,
- 14:42Speaker 1: I really did, and I thought they played it well
- 14:44Speaker 1: in Washington, So you know, I really I was ready to,
- 14:47Speaker 1: you know, kick them to the curb after the first week.
- 14:51Speaker 2: You know, we have well, we can't not talk about neighbors.
- 14:54Speaker 2: I mean, the Neighbors Jones connection looks really good right
- 14:57Speaker 2: now and it's fun to watch.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'll just say this, they play Dallas on
- 15:03Speaker 1: Thursday night. I know they historically get the crap kicked
- 15:09Speaker 1: out of them. By the Cowboys. I mean last year
- 15:12Speaker 1: forty forty nine to seventeen, Alex. If they're going to
- 15:15Speaker 1: get the Cowboys, this is it the Cowboys. There's something
- 15:19Speaker 1: wrong with the Cowboys, definitely something wrong. The Giants can
- 15:23Speaker 1: run the ball on them. They can control the clock.
- 15:27Speaker 1: You know. Michael Parsons is a great defensive player, probably
- 15:31Speaker 1: the second best defensive player in the league, or third
- 15:35Speaker 1: behind TJ. Wat who's definitely the best. But the difference
- 15:37Speaker 1: between t J. A. Watt and the Steelers and Parsons
- 15:43Speaker 1: and the Cowboys. Mike Tomlin and the Steelers are all
- 15:47Speaker 1: business like they say every week, you say, how are
- 15:50Speaker 1: they winning this game? How they winning, how they're winning?
- 15:53Speaker 1: They do everything. It may not be pretty, but the
- 15:57Speaker 1: Steelers always win. Can lose key guys, but they replace
- 16:02Speaker 1: key guys. They can have sub elite quarterbacks, but they
- 16:08Speaker 1: keep winning. So again, kudos to Mike Tomlin and that organization,
- 16:14Speaker 1: which it doesn't even surprise me. It's just I expect
- 16:18Speaker 1: them to always be to be good. They're never bad.
- 16:22Speaker 1: One of was the last fund of Steelers were two
- 16:23Speaker 1: and fourteen, three and thirteen. I mean even the forty
- 16:27Speaker 1: nine Ers have gone through stages like that, and they've
- 16:29Speaker 1: been you know, they've been good most of their history.
- 16:33Speaker 1: So really you gotta get you really gotta.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Well, especially because there's a lot of hype around the Chargers,
- 16:38Speaker 2: right and the fact that the Harbor Herbert connection is
- 16:42Speaker 2: going to be something else, and yet here the Sailors
- 16:45Speaker 2: were taking that from from La the Chargers. So we'll
- 16:49Speaker 2: have to see the other thing about this week for
- 16:53Speaker 2: me and maybe you can add your other ones. The
- 16:55Speaker 2: other the other stand out was this, Actually it wasn't
- 16:58Speaker 2: even Josh Allen. That's performance, I expect it's Tamar Hamlin
- 17:03Speaker 2: getting an interception of Trevor Lawrence. I mean, you look
- 17:05Speaker 2: at this year. For DeMar Hamlin to get that interception
- 17:09Speaker 2: had to feel so good, and to watch it, it's
- 17:12Speaker 2: special because we all know what he went through.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Yeah, now that you guys to wonder how he felt.
- 17:19Speaker 1: You know, we can't quoll into his body, we can't
- 17:21Speaker 1: call into his mind how he felt emotionally when he
- 17:27Speaker 1: made that pick on Monday Night football, ironically where we
- 17:31Speaker 1: got where he suffed the cardiac arrest. Yeah, and the
- 17:36Speaker 1: kid is you know, the kid is a career backup.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Who's now who's now a starter, and he's playing well
- 17:42Speaker 1: for a Buffalo team that is very good, led by
- 17:45Speaker 1: probably the second best quarterback in the NFL after Mahomes,
- 17:50Speaker 1: Josh Allen. I mean, Josh Allen is just a not
- 17:54Speaker 1: only great quarterback, he's a great football player, I mean
- 17:57Speaker 1: a great.
- 17:58Speaker 2: He's a great athlete. I love that he jumps over
- 18:00Speaker 2: these guys. It's so fun to watch, you know.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Oh, I agree.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Well, Lou, you talk about paranoia right as a Jet fan. Well,
- 18:10Speaker 2: I wonder if what the White Sox are doing is
- 18:13Speaker 2: gonna erase the paranoia for Met fans, because, look, the
- 18:17Speaker 2: Mets will no longer be the owner of the worst
- 18:20Speaker 2: record in Major League Baseball history. And I think that
- 18:23Speaker 2: is a yes because they're on eight eighty with the
- 18:26Speaker 2: Mets a good karma boost for the Mets and also
- 18:30Speaker 2: lifts the bag karma, so you see, it works both ways.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Well, I'm gonna I reserve that because you know where
- 18:36Speaker 1: the Mets off for these next three days. If there's
- 18:38Speaker 1: not they don't get rained out. And you know, all
- 18:41Speaker 1: of the disappointments they've had hit the head against Atlanta,
- 18:46Speaker 1: which has kept them out of playoffs.
- 18:48Speaker 2: It seems like forever. I every every series when the
- 18:52Speaker 2: Mets are good, it always ends up being Atlanta being
- 18:55Speaker 2: the the uh, the the stop gap if you will.
- 19:00Speaker 1: It's true, it's it's uh. So we'll see. I'm surprised
- 19:04Speaker 1: at Lanta is not pitching Chris Sale tonight because that
- 19:08Speaker 1: means he can't pitch. He won't be able to pitch
- 19:10Speaker 1: again for the rest of the season. And I gotta
- 19:12Speaker 1: give a shout out to Brisselle. I'm gonna be honest
- 19:15Speaker 1: with you, he's been he's been injured the last two
- 19:17Speaker 1: two and a half years. When they made that trade
- 19:19Speaker 1: with the Red Sox, when the Braves made that trade
- 19:21Speaker 1: with the Red Sox, I thought, why, I thought he
- 19:24Speaker 1: was done. And he's he's He's gonna win the Cy
- 19:27Speaker 1: Young Award UH this year in the National League. But again, yeah,
- 19:33Speaker 1: I'm the White Sox. They're just a horrendous They really
- 19:36Speaker 1: are a horrendous team. But yeah, maybe it is good Calmer,
- 19:39Speaker 1: but we'll know more after this series.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Uh.
- 19:45Speaker 1: This is a p I'm gonna tell you, this is
- 19:46Speaker 1: a scary series for for med fans.
- 19:49Speaker 2: And it's scary because they're missing still right, the big guy.
- 19:52Speaker 2: I mean, they're.
- 19:52Speaker 1: They're missing the big guy, and if they get in,
- 19:56Speaker 1: they have to have the big guy. I mean that
- 19:58Speaker 1: they're six and three wood out of me. I know
- 19:59Speaker 1: he plaid one inning, but six and three with at
- 20:02Speaker 1: them winning three out of four against the Phillies. Fantastic job.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I I hope they can win, win too, and have
- 20:13Speaker 1: the weekend to just you know, set their rotation and
- 20:19Speaker 1: you know, get ready for next week two out of
- 20:21Speaker 1: three on the road to win in the playoffs, because
- 20:24Speaker 1: they will not in all likelihood bear barring as San
- 20:27Speaker 1: Diego collapse. And I don't think that's gonna happen. I mean,
- 20:29Speaker 1: I think San Diego is a true contender to win
- 20:32Speaker 1: the whole thing.
- 20:33Speaker 2: But they can be the second. That's just I mean,
- 20:35Speaker 2: the fact that they've overcome the Diamondbacks even for a day,
- 20:38Speaker 2: blows my mind. I mean, that's something else, Alex.
- 20:42Speaker 1: They have more wins than the Orioles. Think about that.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Think about that, the Mets have more wins than the
- 20:48Speaker 1: Orioles going into tonight's game.
- 20:50Speaker 2: And they're still a scenario where both the Orioles and
- 20:53Speaker 2: Astros are not in the playoffs. I know it's kind
- 20:55Speaker 2: of insane, but there is still that scenario. I don't
- 20:58Speaker 2: think it's gonna happen for at least the ass But
- 21:01Speaker 2: the Orioles could get themselves knocked out of They don't
- 21:03Speaker 2: watch it, you know.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Well, the Oriols can. And just look at this way.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Since July fourth, they've only won five five series one
- 21:13Speaker 1: and two of them are against the White Sox and
- 21:17Speaker 1: the Rockies. So they have been bad for a long time.
- 21:20Speaker 1: And we called it, or we called it at the
- 21:22Speaker 1: All Star break. Yes, they've had a ton of injuries,
- 21:24Speaker 1: a ton of injuries for a young team. They all
- 21:26Speaker 1: know how to handle it. So they're in free fall.
- 21:32Speaker 1: On the fourth of July, they were, they were on
- 21:34Speaker 1: pace to win one hundred and four games. They may
- 21:36Speaker 1: not win ninety. They got to win four out of
- 21:38Speaker 1: six to win ninety. So there's a big difference between
- 21:45Speaker 1: American League and National League.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Okay, no, sorry and review there. Go ahead.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Look, Okay, the team in the Nationally that doesn't get in,
- 21:57Speaker 1: whether it's the Mets or Atlanta or maybe even the Diamonds,
- 22:01Speaker 1: they're better than the Orioles or the Royals, or the
- 22:05Speaker 1: Twins or or the Guardians. The Yankees have a clear
- 22:11Speaker 1: path to get into the World Series. And if they don't.
- 22:14Speaker 1: The pressure is really gonna be on them to make
- 22:17Speaker 1: some kind of change somewhere. I don't know, but it's
- 22:22Speaker 1: it's a clear path for the Yankees to get in.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Houston has a chance, but now Jordan Jordan Alvarez is injured.
- 22:29Speaker 1: To me, they've had a ton of injuries. But you gotta, oh,
- 22:32Speaker 1: you gotta give Youston a chance because they've been there
- 22:35Speaker 1: and they're very clutch team. But the path is wide
- 22:40Speaker 1: open for the for the Yanks.
- 22:43Speaker 2: I'm gonna ask you this because I asked my buddy
- 22:45Speaker 2: Jacob Bearing ju is a big Ink fan and runs
- 22:48Speaker 2: the Yank game, birthing on X what could stop them?
- 22:51Speaker 2: Because I feel like right now, for the first time
- 22:54Speaker 2: in a little while, they have the pieces, they're healthy,
- 22:56Speaker 2: they're jelling. What how can they remain on stop? Well,
- 23:00Speaker 2: it's gotta be a healthy Soto for starters, right.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Well, a healthy Sodo for starters. I mean that that
- 23:05Speaker 1: I'm sure he's gonna be okay. The pressure is going
- 23:08Speaker 1: to be on Judge, who's never had a good postseason.
- 23:12Speaker 1: The pressure is going to be on the Yankee bullpen.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I mean, I know Luke Weaver has been good, but
- 23:19Speaker 1: being good in September when you when you knew you
- 23:22Speaker 1: were gonna make the playoffs. You may you didn't know
- 23:24Speaker 1: if you're gonna finish first, but you you knew you're
- 23:26Speaker 1: gonna make the playoffs. And being in a tight game
- 23:31Speaker 1: to two series tied, uh, you know, game five, eighth
- 23:36Speaker 1: inning against whomever. It's a whole different ball ball of wax.
- 23:40Speaker 1: But the Yankees are better than all the teams that
- 23:42Speaker 1: are out there. The only team that that they could
- 23:46Speaker 1: be worried about is the is the Astros. But maybe
- 23:50Speaker 1: the Astros long runners past them. I don't know. I mean,
- 23:52Speaker 1: I mean, it's still very good.
- 23:55Speaker 2: But the Angers and they still got the same core.
- 23:57Speaker 2: I mean, it's not like an entire.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I mean they they they have to have Alvarez, they
- 24:01Speaker 1: have Kyle Tucker, they have Altuve, they have Bregman. Hater
- 24:05Speaker 1: hasn't had a great year out of the bullpen.
- 24:07Speaker 2: But you know what, I think, Yankee fans and I
- 24:09Speaker 2: would kind of be interesting to see how they would
- 24:11Speaker 2: do against the Astros with this team. Because we talked
- 24:14Speaker 2: about Aaron judges playoff struggles. The fact is he's never
- 24:17Speaker 2: had a supporting cast like he has right now, and
- 24:20Speaker 2: that's really important to me.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I don't know if I would agree with that. But
- 24:23Speaker 1: I don't know if I would agree with that. But
- 24:25Speaker 1: the one thing Yankees will have. The Yankees will have
- 24:28Speaker 1: home field against the Astros if they play them, and
- 24:32Speaker 1: I guess they might play them in the best three
- 24:33Speaker 1: out of five. I think that's the way the bracket
- 24:35Speaker 1: is set up. We have to see we'll have obviously,
- 24:37Speaker 1: we'll know for sure this weekend. I hate bracketing. I
- 24:41Speaker 1: like receding after each round. I'm a receiver guy. I
- 24:45Speaker 1: hate the brackets. I think it can penalize teams who
- 24:51Speaker 1: have earned the regular season right to face a lesser
- 24:54Speaker 1: opponent in the offseason. That goes for all sports. I
- 24:58Speaker 1: hate the fact that the NBA receives that the NFL,
- 25:00Speaker 1: that the NHL receives, so you know that, I mean,
- 25:05Speaker 1: excuse me that they do not received that they bracket
- 25:08Speaker 1: they really all need to receive, so you know, So
- 25:13Speaker 1: that's that's it. Nationally gets wide open. It's really wide
- 25:15Speaker 1: open in both leagues. But to me, pretenders are Baltimore
- 25:21Speaker 1: and the three Central Division teams, the Indians, the Twins,
- 25:25Speaker 1: if the Twins are in.
- 25:27Speaker 2: The Guardians, but yes, you're right.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Look at the Tigers have. The Tigers were ten games
- 25:31Speaker 1: out in the middle of August, ten games out of
- 25:34Speaker 1: a playoff spot. They they sold their They trade their
- 25:37Speaker 1: second best pitcher, Jack's Flaherty to the Dodgers. They traded
- 25:42Speaker 1: Mark Hanna, you know, at the trade deadline. I wonder,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I wonder if they knew that, if they were going
- 25:48Speaker 1: to be in it, if they would have traded those guys,
- 25:51Speaker 1: especially Flawerty, because.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Then they released g I remember that they released g
- 25:55Speaker 2: O and.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Uh Michelle has done a very good job for the Brave.
- 26:00Speaker 1: He has done a great job for the Braves. And
- 26:02Speaker 1: I wonder if the Mets would have been interested in Orchella.
- 26:05Speaker 1: But the Braves picked up Orchella before Jeff McNeil broke
- 26:10Speaker 1: his wrist. So you know, a lot of it's about timing.
- 26:15Speaker 1: So so we'll see one one.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Other thing because it just hit my my inbox, and
- 26:20Speaker 2: we'll get to it in a second about Brett Favre,
- 26:23Speaker 2: because that one is really sad. With the Parkinson's that's
- 26:27Speaker 2: just horrible. But as far as you know, the wide
- 26:31Speaker 2: openness and the seating goes, I still like that there's
- 26:36Speaker 2: an extra team in here. Because I think it makes
- 26:38Speaker 2: it more fun. I think it makes more interesting. But
- 26:40Speaker 2: it's the one team. The Tigers come up and then
- 26:44Speaker 2: the Royals fall is also a fascinating story as well.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Well, And it is a fascinating story that's since August
- 26:52Speaker 1: twenty eighth, the Royals have had two seven game losing streaks.
- 26:57Speaker 1: They currently they've lost seven in a row current, and
- 27:00Speaker 1: they lost seven in a row from August twenty eighth
- 27:03Speaker 1: to whatever they when they completed seven games eight or
- 27:06Speaker 1: nine days after that, so they look like they were
- 27:10Speaker 1: going to pass Cleveland from first. They lost that fourth
- 27:15Speaker 1: game of the series after they had swept them three straight,
- 27:18Speaker 1: and they had that big lead in Game four, wast
- 27:20Speaker 1: that game to Cleveland. And they've been in three four
- 27:22Speaker 1: ever since.
- 27:24Speaker 2: And don't we got the twins. They haven't had have
- 27:26Speaker 2: had a big collapse as well. And you know, because
- 27:29Speaker 2: we're in New York, not many follow it as close
- 27:31Speaker 2: as we do. I might be wrong on that, Lou,
- 27:33Speaker 2: but I feel like because we're in New York, we're
- 27:35Speaker 2: very New York minded, but here we are talking about
- 27:38Speaker 2: every possible collapse and it's it's interesting because I remember
- 27:42Speaker 2: in eight when we talk about one big collapse in
- 27:45Speaker 2: the Mets. Now here we are watching other teams collapse.
- 27:48Speaker 2: But I want to ask you this. I asked you
- 27:50Speaker 2: this in the beginning of September, late August. Does Brandon
- 27:54Speaker 2: Hyde still have a job if they miss if they
- 27:57Speaker 2: don't seed where they should be seeding. I still feel
- 28:00Speaker 2: like this is a major epic catastrophe the Orioles. I
- 28:04Speaker 2: know they're injured, but something else is given here. I
- 28:06Speaker 2: can't explain what it is. Do they lose the clubhouse?
- 28:08Speaker 1: I mean, now, I think the clubhouse is too young
- 28:12Speaker 1: to lose. Usually you lose the clubhouse with guys who veteran,
- 28:15Speaker 1: guys who just turn off listening to the manager. I
- 28:21Speaker 1: don't think that's the case with Brandon Hyde, and I
- 28:24Speaker 1: don't think I mean, I would say maybe a thirty
- 28:28Speaker 1: percent chances is a change, but I would be surprised
- 28:32Speaker 1: if there was a change. I was not surprised, and
- 28:34Speaker 1: we talked about it early in September about potential guys
- 28:38Speaker 1: who can lose their job as manager, and David Bell
- 28:41Speaker 1: lost his job on Sunday as the Cincinnati Reds manager,
- 28:44Speaker 1: and we kind of figured that could could happen. So
- 28:49Speaker 1: we'll see. I mean, the Mariners have already made their change,
- 28:54Speaker 1: you know, in August, and they gave Dan Wilson, a
- 28:56Speaker 1: very popular player, the full time job. A lot of
- 29:00Speaker 1: people in Seattle don't like even though they liked Danielson
- 29:06Speaker 1: as a player, they're not crazy about him becoming a
- 29:09Speaker 1: full time manager. So it'll be an interesting offseason. Obviously.
- 29:13Speaker 1: We know the one Soda will be the biggest news
- 29:17Speaker 1: of the AUSSI season wherever he goes. And I think the.
- 29:21Speaker 2: One breaking news thing we didn't talk about, and I
- 29:23Speaker 2: was talking about gambling and elections, but that same day
- 29:27Speaker 2: there was a real story of gambling, which is the
- 29:29Speaker 2: fact that C. J. Abrams was sent down to the minors.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Now he's a Nationals All Star and you were stunned
- 29:35Speaker 2: at this story, Lou.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, obviously you think the kid would have
- 29:40Speaker 1: more brains than that. He you know, he came to
- 29:46Speaker 1: the Nationals in the Sodo trade, and this is one
- 29:49Speaker 1: of the few trades that the Nationals made. Usually when
- 29:53Speaker 1: you trade a star prospects, nine times out of ten
- 29:56Speaker 1: the prospects crap out. But in this case, the Nationals
- 30:01Speaker 1: got C. J. Abrams uh, and they got the outfielder Uh.
- 30:07Speaker 1: That they brought up would and uh, there's one or
- 30:10Speaker 1: two other guys that they're all prospects for them. And
- 30:15Speaker 1: I don't know what C James was doing. I mean,
- 30:18Speaker 1: and and the National's best Baseball Operations people did the
- 30:24Speaker 1: right thing by sending by sending him down this this
- 30:27Speaker 1: has to wake him up. He's a terrific player. He
- 30:30Speaker 1: still has room to grow. He needs to get better,
- 30:32Speaker 1: a little bit better. Uh, he makes spectacular plays, but
- 30:35Speaker 1: sometimes he makes spectacular play and then throws the ball away.
- 30:40Speaker 1: So yeah, you can't be doing what he's what he's doing.
- 30:45Speaker 1: And Alex, that may not have been his first time.
- 30:48Speaker 1: That might have happened before. And uh, they gave him
- 30:51Speaker 1: some mornings and he may not have adhere to those mornings.
- 30:56Speaker 2: So as Keith Nner says, just stay out till four.
- 30:59Speaker 2: It's better that way. Hey, you know, one last thing
- 31:04Speaker 2: before we go today. Two things. Actually, it is the
- 31:07Speaker 2: birthday of Matt sam Bolin, So happy birthday.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Matt, Happy birthday Matt dam Bolin.
- 31:11Speaker 2: From two of your Salem buddies over here. And then secondly,
- 31:15Speaker 2: Brett Farv with a shocking announcement today. I mean, anytime
- 31:20Speaker 2: a celebrity announces it as shocking. But Brett Farb, I
- 31:24Speaker 2: don't know what his playing that. I mean, he has Parkinson's.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Now that's just sad.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Well as somebody whose dad I died of Parkinson's disease,
- 31:36Speaker 1: I saw how terrible it could be. I assume that
- 31:42Speaker 1: Brett Favre, who played hurt, he played hurt to keep
- 31:46Speaker 1: that streak going. He was a tough guy. I assume
- 31:51Speaker 1: that playing football contributed to him getting this diagnosis. And
- 32:00Speaker 1: it's it's it's horrendous. It's it's it's it's a horrendous disease.
- 32:03Speaker 1: And I know a lot of people. I know a
- 32:06Speaker 1: couple of people who have it right now, and it's
- 32:08Speaker 1: not good. So we hope that they quit early enough.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Not that you can catch it this there's really no
- 32:16Speaker 1: cure for Parkinson.
- 32:17Speaker 2: And I guess the he was, he was on the house,
- 32:19Speaker 2: he was in Congress testifying about this, so that was
- 32:22Speaker 2: very interesting too.
- 32:24Speaker 1: But I mean, let's say it's a collision sport, Alex
- 32:27Speaker 1: he played a collision sport, and uh is the risk
- 32:31Speaker 1: worth worth the reward?
- 32:33Speaker 2: And a lot of these athletes I've heard the last
- 32:35Speaker 2: couple of days have been uh sounding the alarm. You know,
- 32:38Speaker 2: the CTE alarm has been sounded in Congress this week.
- 32:41Speaker 2: I don't even following that or not.
- 32:42Speaker 1: But yeah, no, I you know I have. And the
- 32:46Speaker 1: ct is a problem with in the National Hockey League.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Sometimes I think the NHL turns a half of a
- 32:53Speaker 1: blind eye to it, especially when it comes to fighting,
- 32:56Speaker 1: uh with you know, with Parkinson's. But you know that's
- 33:01Speaker 1: another collision sport, you know. So we'll see, hopefully they
- 33:07Speaker 1: can give him the kind of drugs that will control
- 33:11Speaker 1: it to some some degree where he can almost live
- 33:16Speaker 1: a semi normal life.
- 33:19Speaker 2: But man, his Wrangler commercials will be classic forever. Remember
- 33:23Speaker 2: those Wrangler commercials. Wow, and just his playing days too.
- 33:28Speaker 2: So anyway, we pray for Brett Farve today and those
- 33:32Speaker 2: going through this, you know, disease. It's it's horrible, and
- 33:36Speaker 2: maybe this will shine a light on Parkins's a little more.
- 33:39Speaker 2: When these celebrities get it, they seem to shine a
- 33:41Speaker 2: light on it a little wit.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Absolutely, Alex, that is that is true. And just think
- 33:45Speaker 1: Brett Faull was MVP three years in row in the NFL.
- 33:50Speaker 1: That's sortally how great he was.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Well, I want to take a page out of the
- 33:55Speaker 2: book of what we talked about this morning on A
- 33:56Speaker 2: nineteen seventy, which is the good news. What could be
- 33:59Speaker 2: the good news, Lou for the city sports team. We
- 34:02Speaker 2: got the Liberty already in the postseason. That's some good news.
- 34:05Speaker 2: We've got the Mets and Yankees on their way. It's fun.
- 34:09Speaker 2: It's fun when teams are winning in this town.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Absolutely, there's no doubt about it. And uh, nothing would
- 34:16Speaker 1: make me happier if the Mets win tonight and when
- 34:19Speaker 1: tomorrow night, because that gives them the tieburg over Atlanta.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And I know mathematically they probably couldn't clinch, but if
- 34:26Speaker 1: they clinched that tie, they'll be they would be up
- 34:29Speaker 1: four games. If they win the next two games, they're
- 34:32Speaker 1: in because the Mets had the tiebreaker with Atlanta, and
- 34:35Speaker 1: then they don't have to worry about the weekend.
- 34:37Speaker 2: And the idea they might actually host a home series,
- 34:40Speaker 2: right because I mean, they'd be second seed.
- 34:42Speaker 1: But if they're a second seed they play San Diego.
- 34:44Speaker 2: They would play and San Diego's yeah, that will be hard,
- 34:49Speaker 2: but we can. San Diego's no joke and that Jackson jokes.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Season they're they're they're one of the I would say
- 34:56Speaker 1: there are four contenders that can win the whole thing
- 34:58Speaker 1: going in Yankees, Phil Dodgers, and Padres. But it would
- 35:02Speaker 1: not surprise me if if the Mets, if they get
- 35:07Speaker 1: by that first round, they can get to the World Series.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Has no question. The Mets are that good.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Oh they've got the pieces in place. And you know,
- 35:16Speaker 2: I know you chriticized them a limit, but this could
- 35:18Speaker 2: be a credit to David Sterns as well, no.
- 35:20Speaker 1: No doubt about it. I was talking to somebody this
- 35:23Speaker 1: morning and he was a critic of how David Stearns
- 35:26Speaker 1: was going about putting the team together. Yeah, he got
- 35:29Speaker 1: a little lucky with some of the pitchers that he
- 35:31Speaker 1: hit on, but you got to give it to him.
- 35:33Speaker 1: You know, he stood his ground. He said we'll be
- 35:36Speaker 1: competitive and in twenty four. Well they've been better than
- 35:40Speaker 1: competitive in twenty four And this not only excites any
- 35:44Speaker 1: Mets fan for what can happen the rest of this
- 35:47Speaker 1: week and maybe in the playoffs, but also in the
- 35:49Speaker 1: offseason to see who they're going to add to make
- 35:54Speaker 1: the team even stronger.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Undoubtedly. So loo with that note, thanks for joining again
- 36:02Speaker 2: on the One Leg Up Network, And uh boy, the
- 36:06Speaker 2: hits just keep on coming. Lou, we got you, We
- 36:08Speaker 2: got a my breadgehaw. I mean it just it's been fun.
