- 0:34Speaker 3: talk again.
- 0:35Speaker 1: How are you feeling, man? You look you look a
- 0:36Speaker 1: little burned out.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm a little tired. Yeah, I'm a little tired.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I'm a little tired because we just wrapped season of
- 0:44Speaker 3: n C I s Yeah, I just wrapped.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Two hundred episodes in the show crazy. It's really crazy.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Do you feel do you feel?
- 0:54Speaker 1: I mean you ever? I mean, are you experiencing burnout
- 0:57Speaker 1: at this moment? After doing two hundred? After doing how
- 1:01Speaker 1: many episodes did you do this season?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Well, it's not normal to do two hundred anymore. Nobody
- 1:05Speaker 2: does yees anymore? Right, and so to two hundred?
- 1:08Speaker 3: By that by episode seventeen, you're like, oh good, and
- 1:10Speaker 3: so third, yeah, you.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Know how many episodes you do?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Did you do twenty twenty?
- 1:16Speaker 1: Is that standard for you?
- 1:17Speaker 2: Guys?
- 1:17Speaker 3: Twenty We used to be twenty four at the beginning.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Then with the twenty two. Then then we had a
- 1:21Speaker 3: COVID with it ten or something with it, strike with
- 1:25Speaker 3: the sixteen or vice versa, and then now we're back
- 1:29Speaker 3: at twenty now.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's it's it's a grind, man, it's a grind.
- 1:32Speaker 2: You kind of have to. It's a different steminus. You know,
- 1:36Speaker 2: it's not for everybody.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, not for.
- 1:37Speaker 3: Everybody, because you know, it takes eight days to shoot
- 1:39Speaker 3: one episode, right, so you know there's no vacation. It's
- 1:43Speaker 3: a half hour lunch. You know you're there at seven.
- 1:45Speaker 3: You'll leave us seven.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Nine months out of the year, just about it over
- 1:50Speaker 1: over nine and a half. I mean you knew that
- 1:53Speaker 1: going again, right, Like like what made you You must
- 1:56Speaker 1: have been ready for that, that grind, yeah, before you
- 1:59Speaker 1: went in there.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I also thinks about creating a character that like allows
- 2:02Speaker 3: you to.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Flow.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:06Speaker 3: You know, in movies you tend to take the most
- 2:08Speaker 3: challenging characters because for three months, that's what you're doing,
- 2:13Speaker 3: You're doing this character, you're finding it out, you're grinding
- 2:16Speaker 3: it out. But in TV, you want to find characters
- 2:18Speaker 3: you can you can.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Flow, yeah, because it's long.
- 2:22Speaker 3: But you you've also you know you've you've done t
- 2:25Speaker 3: for for a long time.
- 2:26Speaker 2: How do you how do you prevent yourself from burning out?
- 2:30Speaker 1: Man? When I did it differs. You know, I didn't
- 2:34Speaker 1: feel burned out when I did Cable, when I did
- 2:39Speaker 1: Network TV, you know, the last foray into network TV,
- 2:43Speaker 1: when I did Bull, I experienced and burnout. It was.
- 2:47Speaker 1: It was pretty It was difficult. You know, I was
- 2:50Speaker 1: doing ten page lawyer scenes, you know, all the lawyer jargon,
- 2:57Speaker 1: three cameras, you know, two hundred people in the room.
- 3:01Speaker 2: To pat logs.
- 3:02Speaker 1: A lot of output, man, a lot of output. I
- 3:05Speaker 1: felt like I was like in like theater camp, you know,
- 3:09Speaker 1: like every every episode was training my brain to absorb
- 3:14Speaker 1: that type of dialogue and to be But the burnout
- 3:17Speaker 1: was was pretty real, man. And I'd never I never
- 3:20Speaker 1: did twenty episodes, but I think that one was also
- 3:23Speaker 1: like yours twenty and then and then I think it
- 3:25Speaker 1: kind of went to like eighteen, but it stayed in
- 3:28Speaker 1: that space. But you know, by the time January came
- 3:32Speaker 1: and we were I was, I was, I was dragging
- 3:35Speaker 1: my feet.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Even even Christmas doesn't feel like a rest.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, two and a half weeks I offer for
- 3:42Speaker 3: Christmas and you're just and then you get into a
- 3:44Speaker 3: holiday season, you're like shopping, you're the family, cooking, the
- 3:48Speaker 3: whole thing.
- 3:49Speaker 1: It's like, how many days an episode do you work? Eight?
- 3:53Speaker 1: You work all eight? Really, you work all eight.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Sometimes that'll give me a day off for meetings. Yeah,
- 3:59Speaker 3: so I go and my because I have to do
- 4:00Speaker 3: studio meetings or whatever.
- 4:02Speaker 1: You know.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Yeah, but for the most part, it's eight out of eight,
- 4:05Speaker 3: seven out of eight.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. Are you in every scene? Is that? Why?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Pretty much? Yeah, we're in the most scenes.
- 4:11Speaker 3: The four the four Investigators are like kind of going,
- 4:15Speaker 3: you know. But when you get to that point when
- 4:18Speaker 3: you're doing that many episodes and you're doing other development aside,
- 4:22Speaker 3: I mean, what do you how do you prevent the burnout?
- 4:26Speaker 3: What do you think? What do you think helps? Like
- 4:29Speaker 3: what's the state of mind or what do you do?
- 4:31Speaker 3: Like how do you stay healthy? That's a good question.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Have you have you watchable? I got progressively fatter as
- 4:39Speaker 3: that's very therapeutic, you really want to make it. You
- 4:42Speaker 3: got to store some energy.
- 4:43Speaker 1: You gotta store some energy, man, you know. Uh no,
- 4:46Speaker 1: I I I had a hard time with burnout on
- 4:51Speaker 1: that on that show and gained weight and I had
- 4:54Speaker 1: to try to figure out how to do that and
- 4:57Speaker 1: how to maintain my health and eat healthy. And but
- 5:01Speaker 1: how did you do it? I mean, I mean, you're
- 5:03Speaker 1: you're so much more of an expert at that than me,
- 5:06Speaker 1: And I think that maybe it was a learning curve
- 5:08Speaker 1: for me to do that, where you're like a freaking
- 5:12Speaker 1: pro at.
- 5:12Speaker 3: It, right, I mean, I think it's you know, you
- 5:17Speaker 3: you fight against everything you possibly get to get to
- 5:20Speaker 3: the point to get to the point where you're like
- 5:23Speaker 3: starting to gain weight because you're too tired to work out.
- 5:28Speaker 3: That was me, So I get, you know, and I
- 5:31Speaker 3: want I want to also talk a little bit about
- 5:33Speaker 3: that part, because when we talk about gaining weight, you're
- 5:36Speaker 3: talking about a you know, a subliminal state of mind
- 5:41Speaker 3: that all of a sudden, the only motivation you have
- 5:44Speaker 3: is to memorize lines, say them aloud, and be on
- 5:47Speaker 3: your feet for ten to twelve hours and do choreography
- 5:52Speaker 3: and do walking around and do community with us, and
- 5:54Speaker 3: your output entertaining. So therefore, you know, you're reading line
- 6:00Speaker 3: and you're not sitting down and having a proper meal, right,
- 6:03Speaker 3: you're eating only on set, which is like you know,
- 6:06Speaker 3: if anybody has seen the stereotypical craft services.
- 6:08Speaker 2: It's like every pair of chips, you can ease whatever.
- 6:12Speaker 2: And it's like that.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Instinct like sugar spike or that instinct like coffee spike
- 6:17Speaker 3: or that instant like so like your body starts slowing down.
- 6:21Speaker 3: And so for me, the I take care of my
- 6:26Speaker 3: brain first, So I do the brain knocked in, I
- 6:29Speaker 3: do you know, collagen and creating creamers and stuff like that,
- 6:33Speaker 3: and that kind of keeps keeps you hydrated, keeps your
- 6:36Speaker 3: brain hydrated, and that's how you retain information. And then
- 6:40Speaker 3: how do you take care of the body. I just
- 6:42Speaker 3: I stay in the gym as hard as it is.
- 6:46Speaker 3: So I started doing it four thirty in the morning
- 6:48Speaker 3: because you needed church, right, you needed a place to
- 6:53Speaker 3: work it out, to grind it out. And then you
- 6:56Speaker 3: come to set warm awoken. You know, you're not sleepy,
- 7:01Speaker 3: you're not drugging, you don't just wake up.
- 7:04Speaker 2: So that helps.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Now ten episodes in, Yeah, I'm gonna take the day off, right,
- 7:12Speaker 3: I'm mentoring morning now from working out right, and then
- 7:15Speaker 3: feels better to sleep in. Yeah, I take two hours
- 7:18Speaker 3: today right right, Then comes episode seventeen.
- 7:24Speaker 2: It's pasta bar. You know I've been pretty good the
- 7:27Speaker 2: last three episodes.
- 7:28Speaker 3: I have a pasta, So then you start slowing the say,
- 7:33Speaker 3: oh my guys, the white sauce of the red sauce.
- 7:37Speaker 3: You recommend that white sauce extra Yeah, I like cheese.
- 7:43Speaker 2: That's the problem, you know.
- 7:44Speaker 3: The problem is like you's like it's easy to reward
- 7:47Speaker 3: yourself because it's also easier to reward yourself more often, right,
- 7:56Speaker 3: Like Okay, well I have a pasta a week, right,
- 8:00Speaker 3: you know, but then you're not working out, you're working whatever.
- 8:04Speaker 3: But you gotta like fuel your body for stamina, you know,
- 8:08Speaker 3: give yourself some healthy cars so your body can absorb
- 8:10Speaker 3: it as supposed to restore it.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, but that's like that's on the physical part.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:17Speaker 3: The mental fatigue is is where it's it's scary, bro.
- 8:21Speaker 3: It's heavy because you gotta you gotta retain information.
- 8:25Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Movies is funny because you'll shoot like two scenes for
- 8:29Speaker 3: twelve hours. Yeah, TV you're doing five scenes in one day.
- 8:34Speaker 1: You like, give me the next episode the next exactly.
- 8:37Speaker 2: It's kind of crazy.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it was tough.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I think I think one of the things I got
- 8:41Speaker 1: me through it, I just felt I felt appreciated, you know,
- 8:46Speaker 1: and sometimes it's all you need is to like feel appreciated,
- 8:49Speaker 1: you know. Shout out to to David's staff and the
- 8:53Speaker 1: George Cheeks and all the wonderful people at CBS. I
- 8:56Speaker 1: loved working at that network and always felt appreciated by them.
- 9:00Speaker 1: And there were some other executives that were there before that,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and I know you're still working with all of them.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I just uh, they were just like good human beings, you.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Know, real aware, yeah, always aware.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Yeah, man, Amy, you know, shut out, she's my sister, man, Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Just nice people, man, nice people. I always felt appreciated
- 9:21Speaker 1: by them. I always felt like I was doing some
- 9:23Speaker 1: good work for them, and they and they were always
- 9:25Speaker 1: vocal about that. And and that's that's that was like
- 9:28Speaker 1: one of the things that got me through, you know
- 9:29Speaker 1: that And and the uh, the fan response, right, you know,
- 9:35Speaker 1: the fans love.
- 9:36Speaker 2: That is working and you're getting to them. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You just feel like you're doing your job, you know,
- 9:41Speaker 1: and so it's sort of curbs the burnout, you know,
- 9:44Speaker 1: and and and by the time you get to the end,
- 9:46Speaker 1: you're like, where's where's I want to stay in bed
- 9:50Speaker 1: for like a month.
- 9:51Speaker 3: And then your wife comes and just like, can we
- 9:53Speaker 3: plan a vacation? Yeah, yeah, exactly right, and you have vacation.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Okay, let's do it.
- 9:59Speaker 1: You know. You know Elsie did that for me. Man,
- 10:01Speaker 1: She's she's so wonderful. She took me to she took
- 10:04Speaker 1: me to Puerto Rico and got this wonderful room and
- 10:08Speaker 1: we were at this great resort and and I and
- 10:12Speaker 1: I fell asleep a lot of the time I was there. Man,
- 10:14Speaker 1: I felt so bad because I know she wanted to like.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Explore it, and I was like.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Like on the on the on the balcony.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I know. Amanda does a really good job by
- 10:25Speaker 2: making sure I'm awake.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Yeah, we're going. The car is here, the boat is there.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Do you feel that choosing, you know, a job that
- 10:45Speaker 1: may induce burnout now at this stage in your career
- 10:49Speaker 1: is different than what it was earlier in your career.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I mean I got a little older, you mean, yeah,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I'm sure when you did seventy show you were like
- 10:57Speaker 1: bringing on right, I mean you're in your teens and you're.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Like, I will literally on my days where I had
- 11:03Speaker 3: a day like a half a day, I will fly
- 11:06Speaker 3: to New.
- 11:06Speaker 2: York have meetings, promote, and come right back.
- 11:10Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 11:11Speaker 3: They give me, like Tuesday off, I'll fly to Miami
- 11:13Speaker 3: to do Spanish speaking press and come back and rehearse
- 11:16Speaker 3: the same day.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I do. Crazy.
- 11:18Speaker 2: It's tough like that because I just did you do that?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Now you think you could do that?
- 11:21Speaker 2: Now I could. But instead of.
- 11:24Speaker 3: You know, watching movies on the plane and like talking
- 11:27Speaker 3: to strangers, which I love talking to.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yes, the whole flight to talk like exactly, I love that.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I'd be like, hey man, let's talk for two hours.
- 11:37Speaker 3: Yeah, and then we're going to sleep. Ten hours later
- 11:42Speaker 3: we still talked. I was so pig dude.
- 11:44Speaker 1: So so now now now you sleep on the I
- 11:47Speaker 1: try to sleep.
- 11:48Speaker 2: When I don't have to be awake.
- 11:49Speaker 3: But look, getting back to the philosophical part of it,
- 11:52Speaker 3: you know, sometimes you kind of wonder, like what is
- 11:54Speaker 3: the thing that makes you ignore the fatigue and like
- 11:59Speaker 3: makes you ignore or the soreness and the tiredness, Like
- 12:02Speaker 3: what is that thing? What is that feeling you're chasing?
- 12:04Speaker 3: And you know, it's different for everybody. I think that
- 12:08Speaker 3: I think for us, for people like us that were
- 12:10Speaker 3: at this place of our lives and careers, it's about
- 12:14Speaker 3: keeping the light on. It's about giving our families, you know,
- 12:16Speaker 3: that kind of balance and that wealth being. You know,
- 12:19Speaker 3: I think that's the thing that really keeps you going.
- 12:22Speaker 3: It has to be about something more than just the art.
- 12:24Speaker 3: It can't just be about because you love it. Yeah,
- 12:27Speaker 3: you know, because at the end of the day, it
- 12:28Speaker 3: is a business and it is a job. Yeah, and
- 12:32Speaker 3: you have a responsibility, right, your responsibility, right, you have
- 12:35Speaker 3: millions of dollars are being burned on the set just
- 12:38Speaker 3: so you can say your lines. Yeah, put it that way.
- 12:42Speaker 3: You're carrying a lot, you know.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Man. I had a family emergency
- 12:48Speaker 1: when I was doing that show, and I postponed it
- 12:52Speaker 1: because I felt this deep sense of responsibility on my shoulder.
- 12:56Speaker 1: You know. I was like, oh, man, if I leave now,
- 12:59Speaker 1: shut production, that's a couple hundred gram more than that
- 13:03Speaker 1: per episode, like per day. Like I just I just
- 13:07Speaker 1: felt this deep sense of responsibility on my shoulder. Man.
- 13:11Speaker 1: And I don't know if that comes with like the
- 13:14Speaker 1: way we grew up, right, Like, you know, we we
- 13:17Speaker 1: grew up with such a deep sense of responsibility in
- 13:20Speaker 1: whatever we do. But I feel that now, man, no
- 13:23Speaker 1: matter what problem, no matter how burned out. I feel
- 13:25Speaker 1: no matter how tired I am, I just you know,
- 13:29Speaker 1: I just feel like I signed up for this thing.
- 13:32Speaker 1: They're putting their trust in me. It's my job to deliver,
- 13:36Speaker 1: you know, no matter what age, no matter what, how
- 13:39Speaker 1: many hours, nothing.
- 13:40Speaker 3: I just know the fans are watching, and you know,
- 13:43Speaker 3: you want to give them the best possible show and
- 13:46Speaker 3: all that.
- 13:47Speaker 1: And they expect to expect that many they you know,
- 13:49Speaker 1: they've been watching you for thirty years, right, so they're like,
- 13:51Speaker 1: I expect to see something from Wilburg. I expect to
- 13:54Speaker 1: see a level of performance and quality.
- 13:58Speaker 2: And care and invest all of that.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure you could phone it in. I'm
- 14:02Speaker 1: sure you could, like you know, you could do all
- 14:04Speaker 1: that stuff, but but the fans expect more of you.
- 14:08Speaker 3: What do you want to do next? Like, got you
- 14:10Speaker 3: open to doing a show for twenty eighthisodes again?
- 14:14Speaker 1: I would, man, I would.
- 14:15Speaker 3: I mean, you're in great ship, you were broken, you're
- 14:17Speaker 3: killing it, And I would, yeah, yeah, you know a
- 14:21Speaker 3: head full.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Of hair, Yes, I still got it, it's still there.
- 14:24Speaker 1: I would, man, I would. I would because of my
- 14:28Speaker 1: last experience with with those very people that we just
- 14:32Speaker 1: talked about over at CBS. You know, I just so
- 14:35Speaker 1: appreciated the way singer handler or ensemble. I it's more
- 14:41Speaker 1: about the It's more about the project and the and
- 14:43Speaker 1: the character.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I get it.
- 14:45Speaker 3: I'm talking about the technical weight that you have to
- 14:47Speaker 3: carry because if you're you're, if you're like the center
- 14:53Speaker 3: of the boaster.
- 14:54Speaker 1: I'd be open to all of it. Okay, good, I'd
- 14:56Speaker 1: be open to all of it as long as as
- 14:58Speaker 1: long as I had the same kind of team behind
- 15:02Speaker 1: me that I had that was supporting me. Because it's
- 15:07Speaker 1: so hard. It's so hard to do you you need
- 15:09Speaker 1: a team like that that that believes and supports you.
- 15:12Speaker 1: As long as I had that, Yeah, I would. I
- 15:14Speaker 1: would venture off into doing that again.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think I still have the stamina for it. Man,
- 15:20Speaker 1: I could still do it.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Well, your baby, baby, Well, come on, man, that you
- 15:26Speaker 3: know it happen.
- 15:28Speaker 1: You know.
- 15:42Speaker 2: What, Well, what will be the character you want to
- 15:45Speaker 2: play next? I know you're open, but yeah, I don't.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Know, man, that's a good that's a good question.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Do you want to do some action?
- 15:55Speaker 1: I do? I still I love doing I you know,
- 15:58Speaker 1: I did a little action here in there. I loved it.
- 16:01Speaker 1: You know, did the lawyer thing. Loved it. I you know,
- 16:04Speaker 1: as long as I could. As long as I can
- 16:07Speaker 1: do something with the character, that's all that matters to me.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Doctor.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I would, Yeah, because you speak English, I don't, so
- 16:15Speaker 3: I won't do it.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I would, I won't be doing that. But I welcome.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I welcomed the burnout, you know, like I know it.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Throughout our careers, there may have been times where you're like, oh, no,
- 16:28Speaker 1: I would do this. I wouldn't do this. Has there
- 16:31Speaker 1: ever been a project that you've that you've passed on
- 16:34Speaker 1: because you were so burned out you were just like,
- 16:39Speaker 1: I just can't I don't have the staminaugh for it
- 16:43Speaker 1: right now.
- 16:44Speaker 3: No, there's shows that didn't go that I that I
- 16:48Speaker 3: was like, I was ready to lock in. Yeah, Like
- 16:51Speaker 3: I did this show where I play a coronel and
- 16:53Speaker 3: I was a military show and I was just excited
- 16:57Speaker 3: to just be covering dust and gunpowder.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I just want to go and do that. So I
- 17:02Speaker 2: was locked in reder to go in great shape and
- 17:03Speaker 2: all that. But it didn't go.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but but you were ready to. You were you
- 17:09Speaker 1: didn't feel like ah man.
- 17:11Speaker 2: But fatigue is.
- 17:14Speaker 3: I mean sort where the fatigue gets a little concerning
- 17:19Speaker 3: is in that sometimes these jobs take the best out
- 17:23Speaker 3: of us, and then you come home and you have
- 17:29Speaker 3: to muster the little bit of best. You have to
- 17:33Speaker 3: make sure your family has all of you. And that,
- 17:37Speaker 3: to me is the concerning part. And I'm playing with
- 17:41Speaker 3: that balance, you know, because during the day you're at
- 17:47Speaker 3: one hundred, right then you come home and you're probably
- 17:50Speaker 3: feeling fifteen percent. You're seventeen percent when you come home,
- 17:55Speaker 3: and you gotta prove you gotta turn that up. You
- 17:59Speaker 3: gotta chase your kids, you gotta you know how, and
- 18:04Speaker 3: you got taught.
- 18:04Speaker 2: To your lady. You know you got I mean, you're
- 18:07Speaker 2: you're changing in many ways.
- 18:10Speaker 3: It keeps you young, right, like you're like just fucking
- 18:12Speaker 3: getting it, just giving the game, you know. Yeah, but
- 18:14Speaker 3: but that kind of stuff is something you gotta and again,
- 18:17Speaker 3: you gotta find that balance, if you know, you talk
- 18:19Speaker 3: about longevity, you know, and how are you going to
- 18:21Speaker 3: take care of yourself to go? But you know, then
- 18:23Speaker 3: you see people like you know, Anthony Hopkins, Yeah, they're
- 18:28Speaker 3: doing he's doing Marvel movies. He's doing like yeah, like
- 18:33Speaker 3: you like, how how are you hanging on that hard?
- 18:36Speaker 2: And you know what it.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Is it's still play for him. Yeah right, So I
- 18:42Speaker 3: didn't think about like that. We just can't forget. And
- 18:44Speaker 3: again this who comes now straight up to everybody who's
- 18:48Speaker 3: experiencing that dilemma, Like, I've been doing this job for
- 18:51Speaker 3: this much, but you gotta go back to what was
- 18:53Speaker 3: fun about it, yeah right, and like you gotta continue
- 18:56Speaker 3: to cultivate that fun part of the job to make
- 19:00Speaker 3: sure that that's the thing that keeps you awake, the
- 19:03Speaker 3: thing that keeps you engaged. Yeah right, that's the toughest part, right,
- 19:07Speaker 3: because you gotta you gotta remember why you started, you know.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah, Because imagine being a part of a job, whatever
- 19:14Speaker 1: it is, right, it doesn't even have to be like
- 19:15Speaker 1: a TV show. It could be whatever. Imagine being a
- 19:18Speaker 1: part of something where you're you're you're giving it everything.
- 19:21Speaker 1: You're experiencing burnout. Yeah, and you hate it, right, you
- 19:25Speaker 1: hate every aspect of it. I mean that's what really
- 19:29Speaker 1: exacerbates the burnout, I think in my opinion, you know,
- 19:34Speaker 1: I I you know, it's funny, there was there was
- 19:37Speaker 1: a job that that I didn't take, uh because I
- 19:40Speaker 1: was burned out. I had uh, I had taken I
- 19:44Speaker 1: had you know, I was coming off of, you know,
- 19:48Speaker 1: a string of of of movies and a TV show
- 19:51Speaker 1: and I was just so I was just so tired, man,
- 19:54Speaker 1: I was so tired. And I and I remember, oh,
- 19:56Speaker 1: it was right after that time I saw you in
- 19:58Speaker 1: London and I got home and I think I was
- 20:02Speaker 1: I was promoting because I went to London at that
- 20:04Speaker 1: time I saw you, and I was promoting a movie
- 20:06Speaker 1: out there, and I was just so exhausted. Man, I
- 20:08Speaker 1: was coming off of this run and uh. And I
- 20:13Speaker 1: had a meeting with Catherine Bigelow for the hurt Locker. Now,
- 20:19Speaker 1: mind you, I didn't know it was going to be
- 20:21Speaker 1: the hurt Locker as we know it today, right. I
- 20:26Speaker 1: had a meeting with her because it was a small
- 20:28Speaker 1: indie movie that she wanted to do in Morocco. And
- 20:33Speaker 1: I had talked to a couple of my active friends
- 20:35Speaker 1: and I was like, man, how is Morocco. They're like, oh, man,
- 20:38Speaker 1: we got we got food poisoning when we were there
- 20:40Speaker 1: and the water was terrible. Like they just did not
- 20:43Speaker 1: have great things to say about it. Right, And so
- 20:46Speaker 1: we had a meeting and we and we vibed and
- 20:49Speaker 1: she was like, well, I'd love for you to be
- 20:50Speaker 1: a part of this, you know. And I was like, Okay,
- 20:53Speaker 1: I haven't seen my kids and like in like a month,
- 20:57Speaker 1: like I've been working non stop, Like do I really
- 20:59Speaker 1: want to go to my rocco on some like indie
- 21:01Speaker 1: movie and get food poisoning and be away from the kids,
- 21:05Speaker 1: And like, I was so burned out. And then I
- 21:08Speaker 1: got offered Ugly Betty and.
- 21:10Speaker 2: So and I shot here.
- 21:13Speaker 1: It shot here, and I was like, oh me, a
- 21:16Speaker 1: romantic comedy after all of the stuff that I was
- 21:18Speaker 1: doing back then, all the gritty indie movies and the
- 21:21Speaker 1: TV show. And I was just flattered that that that
- 21:24Speaker 1: ABC saw me as like a romantic lead. And so
- 21:28Speaker 1: I took Ugly Betty instead of this small indie movie
- 21:32Speaker 1: that was in Morocco. And then the movie come out,
- 21:35Speaker 1: comes out and it's magnificent, and.
- 21:39Speaker 2: You would I'm going with this and a guy.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And then Jeremy Renner got nominated for an Oscar and
- 21:44Speaker 1: the whole movie did, and I was like, oh man, wow,
- 21:46Speaker 1: I can't believe I didn't do that thing, but you know,
- 21:49Speaker 1: it would have been awesome. It's just is it, you know,
- 21:52Speaker 1: just a testament? And it was.
- 21:54Speaker 3: But also it was a pop cultural phenomenal in culture,
- 21:58Speaker 3: had too, and I also.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, no, no, I had I had at an
- 22:02Speaker 4: incredible time. I think it was the right gamble America
- 22:05Speaker 4: for era, and and all of them were just so lovely,
- 22:09Speaker 4: lovely people to work with, you know.
- 22:11Speaker 1: But that was the wood job as we as, this
- 22:14Speaker 1: conversation revolves around burnout and fatigue, and I was like,
- 22:19Speaker 1: I was like, I just don't have an any man
- 22:21Speaker 1: and you know, kids and all.
- 22:23Speaker 3: That stuff, and so yeah, priorities, right, You've got to
- 22:26Speaker 3: make sure that you have a list of priorities. What
- 22:29Speaker 3: are the things that you're willing to live with, what
- 22:31Speaker 3: are the things you're willing to live without? Yeah, but no, look,
- 22:34Speaker 3: it's a great reminder for everybody, everybody's who's listening that
- 22:38Speaker 3: it's you know, you have to make some early choices
- 22:41Speaker 3: that allow you to have that you know, that runway.
- 22:45Speaker 3: You got to pace yourself, but you got to give
- 22:47Speaker 3: it all at the same time. It's in a very annoying equation. Yeah,
- 22:52Speaker 3: but make sure you save some in the tank for
- 22:54Speaker 3: the things that you're working for.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, and you know, and sometimes that may not
- 22:59Speaker 1: even be the main I think you're doing right, Like,
- 23:01Speaker 1: like sometimes you're working a nine to five, right and
- 23:06Speaker 1: there may be something that you feel passionate about you
- 23:09Speaker 1: to do all your off time. That that thing is
- 23:12Speaker 1: what fills the void. That's what makes the nine to
- 23:15Speaker 1: five tolerable. And so it's it's important that you're not
- 23:19Speaker 1: allowing the nine to five to burn you out so much.
- 23:22Speaker 2: That you don't get to do the thing that tells
- 23:24Speaker 2: the void. That's great, that's a great reminder. Well, on
- 23:28Speaker 2: that note, this is a woman of ot the Romance.
- 23:31Speaker 1: It's Freddy Rodriguez.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Thank you for listening.

- 23:44Speaker 3: enjoy what you are and what you want to be
