- 0:29I Hate Talking: Welcome to episode 115 of I Hate Talking.
- 0:33I Hate Talking: Hi everyone.
- 0:33I Hate Talking: So we haven't gotten much response on acronyms, so I guess people are not a fan of acronyms.
- 0:39I Hate Talking: I guess not.
- 0:39I Hate Talking: They would rather hear definitions and etymologies of words.
- 0:44I Hate Talking: OK.
- 0:44I Hate Talking: So, what is our word or phrase of this episode?
- 0:48I Hate Talking: Yeah, well, what's the topic?
- 0:51I Hate Talking: -- What's -- the topic?
- 0:52I Hate Talking: The topic, of course, is Toy Story 2.
- 0:54I Hate Talking: Oh, OK.
- 0:56I Hate Talking: We could do a Ryan Trahan word.
- 0:58I Hate Talking: What was his words?
- 1:00I Hate Talking: He likes to start doing definitions now.
- 1:02I Hate Talking: Does he?
- 1:03I Hate Talking: Yeah, I forget what he did for his words.
- 1:07I Hate Talking: Befuddled.
- 1:08I Hate Talking: That was one of his words.
- 1:09I Hate Talking: It's a good one.
- 1:10I Hate Talking: -- It's a -- good one.
- 1:11I Hate Talking: Now I am curious what befuddled is like.
- 1:14I Hate Talking: I know the definition, but I have no idea what the etymology would be.
- 1:18I Hate Talking: OK, so I think it's, it's gonna be befuddled because befuddled is leaving me a little bit befuddled on the definition, not the definition.
- 1:25I Hate Talking: The etymology, we're doing it.
- 1:28I Hate Talking: We're doing it.
- 1:29I Hate Talking: Episode 115 right here.
- 1:30I Hate Talking: So befuddled.
- 1:32I Hate Talking: Have you heard or used this word yourself?
- 1:36I Hate Talking: Yes, ironical, not really used it, but ironically, when I was an elementary school student, there was a college guy at our church.
- 1:45I Hate Talking: And one time he said that me and my friend befuddled him.
- 1:50I Hate Talking: And we were like, I remember it stopped us in our tracks, and we were like, what?
- 1:55I Hate Talking: Is that a bad word?
- 1:56I Hate Talking: Like is that, uh, and he's like, no, it just means confused, you guys confuse me.
- 2:02I Hate Talking: And then he started doing words of the week, every week, we learned that one and uh he had a whole list of words every week he would teach us a new one and befuddled was the very first part of it.
- 2:13I Hate Talking: -- And -- he did this on a podcast.
- 2:14I Hate Talking: No, I don't think podcasts were a theme back then.
- 2:18I Hate Talking: This would have been like, I don't know, 92, 93 or so.
- 2:22I Hate Talking: I see.
- 2:23I Hate Talking: So it was just in person, in person, yes, at church, -- yeah about -- that.
- 2:27I Hate Talking: Back in the day before the internet connected us all through podcasts, so befuddled as defined by apparently.
- 2:38I Hate Talking: The new version of the collaborative International Dictionary of English.
- 2:43I Hate Talking: This is strange.
- 2:44I Hate Talking: So duck duck duck go apparently does not.
- 2:48I Hate Talking: Linked to our favorite.
- 2:51I Hate Talking: American Heritage Dictionary 5th edition anymore.
- 2:55I Hate Talking: It went to the new version, spelled G N U.
- 2:58I Hate Talking: Ah So we can check Merriam-Webster's, I guess I'll have to look for, let's check American Heritage Dictionary.
- 3:07I Hate Talking: So, the American Heritage Dictionary does have an entry for befuddled.
- 3:11I Hate Talking: So, for some reason, duck ducko has either changed their dictionary or for this particular word is not linking to that one.
- 3:19I Hate Talking: But according to the American Heritage Dictionary, there are two definitions.
- 3:23I Hate Talking: It is number 1.
- 3:25I Hate Talking: To cause someone to be unable to think clearly, confused, or confused.
- 3:31I Hate Talking: And then to stupefy or to be intoxicated, befuddled, stupefy, that's a Harry Potter curse, right?
- 3:41I Hate Talking: I suppose so.
- 3:43I Hate Talking: Well, it's based on a real word though.
- 3:45I Hate Talking: I mean, I guess most of them are.
- 3:47I Hate Talking: They're just sort of.
- 3:48I Hate Talking: Transliterations of some sort.
- 3:50I Hate Talking: So now on to the thing that has befuddled me, which is the etymology, -- the etymology of -- befuddled.
- 3:57I Hate Talking: I think it's English.
- 3:59I Hate Talking: Just pure English, no Greek or Latin roots in this one.
- 4:03I Hate Talking: Sure, that's what I'm gonna stick with.
- 4:06I Hate Talking: That's, so according to Etymology online.
- 4:12I Hate Talking: It was Purely from English in 1873.
- 4:18I Hate Talking: Wow, look at that.
- 4:20I Hate Talking: And it was originally used.
- 4:22I Hate Talking: In reference to confusing someone with strong drink or opium.
- 4:27I Hate Talking: And it was just the combination of two words, be and fuddle.
- 4:32I Hate Talking: So, and then fuddle became used in the.
- 4:36I Hate Talking: 1580s to become intoxicated.
- 4:41I Hate Talking: Oh, OK.
- 4:42I Hate Talking: And then it was used in the 1600s all the way up through the 1800s, and then it seems like the fuddle sort of has replaced this and fuddle is not used anymore.
- 4:52I Hate Talking: OK.
- 4:52I Hate Talking: So it literally was to be.
- 4:57I Hate Talking: Intoxicated.
- 5:00I Hate Talking: Which would You're confused if you're intoxicated, right?
- 5:04I Hate Talking: So, be intoxicated, then they changed it and it's just be confused now.
- 5:11I Hate Talking: Yes, there are some theories that the original word fuddle in the 1500s came from a Germanic word fuddling, which means to work in a slovenly manner.
- 5:23I Hate Talking: Hm, do you ever use the word?
- 5:26I Hate Talking: In an actual conversation.
- 5:29I Hate Talking: No, I don't think so.
- 5:31I Hate Talking: Yeah, now, again, the only time I ever really heard it.
- 5:36I Hate Talking: Or if I do hear about it, I always go back to that time in elementary school.
- 5:40I Hate Talking: When I said, I was told I befuddled people.
- 5:44I Hate Talking: Well, there you go.
- 5:45I Hate Talking: So, now you need not be befuddled by the word befuddled.
- 5:49I Hate Talking: You know, the definition and the etymology, which is more than Ryan Trahan provided.
- 5:54I Hate Talking: He just said, OK.
- 5:56I Hate Talking: Is that a new thing he's doing?
- 5:59I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 6:00I Hate Talking: It was, it was just in one video, so I don't know if it's a trend.
- 6:03I Hate Talking: Oh, OK, interesting.
- 6:05I Hate Talking: Maybe he's copying us.
- 6:06I Hate Talking: Would that be so cool?
- 6:09I Hate Talking: Oh, I'm such a big fan of him.
- 6:11I Hate Talking: If he listened to us.
- 6:14I Hate Talking: Oh man.
- 6:15I Hate Talking: Also, a large percentage of like relatively.
- 6:20I Hate Talking: A large percentage of your paycheck goes to support him with joyride candies, so he really owes us.
- 6:27I Hate Talking: That's pretty much the only candy we buy nowadays.
- 6:30I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 6:31I Hate Talking: -- You still get chocolate -- though.
- 6:35I Hate Talking: I do.
- 6:36I Hate Talking: Oh, I, yeah, once he starts making chocolate, maybe I'll switch over completely.
- 6:41I Hate Talking: But no, the kids are fine with not having chocolate, and you are fine without chocolate too, usually, right?
- 6:47I Hate Talking: Yeah, usually, -- but -- no, I really love chocolate.
- 6:50I Hate Talking: So as I alluded to, Toy Story 2, we have since watched that since our Mini Toy Story 1 recap.
- 6:59I Hate Talking: So, any particular takeaways about Toy Story 2?
- 7:03I Hate Talking: My biggest takeaway was how much of that.
- 7:07I Hate Talking: was ingrained in my brain.
- 7:09I Hate Talking: I knew more about Toy Story 2, like I could say the words right along with them, or before they said them, the lines.
- 7:18I Hate Talking: Um, I knew it much more instinctively than I knew Toy Story one.
- 7:23I Hate Talking: And I don't know, I was trying to think about if maybe when I used a nanny, if that was the time frame.
- 7:29I Hate Talking: Where we watched that one, maybe.
- 7:32I Hate Talking: I, it doesn't seem to line up though, so I don't know why Toy Story 2 is so ingrained in my memory.
- 7:38I Hate Talking: More than one.
- 7:40I Hate Talking: I think Toy Story one was a little bit maybe more original in concept.
- 7:45I Hate Talking: And Toy Story 2 had perhaps more one-liners and sort of Quote unquote rip-offs or callbacks to other movies.
- 7:55I Hate Talking: OK.
- 7:56I Hate Talking: Because there's a lot of Star Wars references for one.
- 8:00I Hate Talking: Yeah, a lot of Star Wars.
- 8:03I Hate Talking: What else is there?
- 8:03I Hate Talking: I mean there definitely was like a theme to the story, which spoiler alerts ahead I guess because we're gonna describe some of the particular storyline.
- 8:14I Hate Talking: So if you haven't seen Story Story 2 by now, then.
- 8:17I Hate Talking: It's, you've had a pretty long chance.
- 8:19I Hate Talking: That's quite a while, quite a while, but you can stop it now and go watch it and then come back.
- 8:24I Hate Talking: But you've had.
- 8:25I Hate Talking: Almost 30 years, so that's true because they have to.
- 8:29I Hate Talking: Rescue Woody from the person that is working at the toy store that is also some sort of collector slash reseller and has the entire Woody's collection now that he has stolen Woody, so they have to go rescue him.
- 8:44I Hate Talking: That's really it.
- 8:46I Hate Talking: That's the whole plot.
- 8:48I Hate Talking: There's not really much more to that, so there's not like.
- 8:51I Hate Talking: Self-awareness Being a thing with toys becoming self-aware or Different particular people that have different intent and desires like The kid that wants to blow everything up, Sid, and All the different toys that are perhaps not quite aligned in Toy Story 1, but they definitely seem more aligned in Toy Story 2, which I think perhaps detracts a bit from the overall arching storyline and perhaps makes that more memorable for the one-liners and different scenarios that.
- 9:32I Hate Talking: Do you remember more than one also?
- 9:35I Hate Talking: Yeah, I suppose so.
- 9:37I Hate Talking: A lot more seemed familiar, I suppose, in Toy Story 2.
- 9:41I Hate Talking: Interesting.
- 9:42I Hate Talking: Um, Yeah, I mean, but the overall concept, right, is like Woody gets broken.
- 9:49I Hate Talking: And then he thinks he's getting discarded for good.
- 9:54I Hate Talking: The bad guy tries to buy him at the yard sale.
- 9:57I Hate Talking: And the mom says no, and so he steals them.
- 10:01I Hate Talking: So it's a whole concept, right, where Woody then decide, has to decide if he wants to become a collector and famous, or go back to his owner.
- 10:11I Hate Talking: So that's a whole like arc, right, that he has to.
- 10:16I Hate Talking: Choose which path to take.
- 10:19I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 10:19I Hate Talking: And the prospector is already self-aware, even though supposedly he's never been unboxed, but he has been, but he has been.
- 10:29I Hate Talking: But did somebody play with him and imbue with him the magic of toy liveliness like we discussed in our Toy Story one episode?
- 10:38I Hate Talking: Oh.
- 10:39I Hate Talking: Um, no, he's so bitter that I think that he was never actually a child's toy.
- 10:46I Hate Talking: But a child must have imagined him as a character in something, so self-aware, to be self-aware, because, OK, let's talk about that on that topic, the horse.
- 10:58I Hate Talking: What's his name?
- 10:59I Hate Talking: Um, Bull's eye, bull's eye ride like the wind, bull's eye.
- 11:04I Hate Talking: See, that's another like one-liner that you can remember.
- 11:07I Hate Talking: Those things don't really exist in Toy Story one.
- 11:10I Hate Talking: I mean, I guess there is like to Infinity beyond, but that's like their specific sort of motto.
- 11:16I Hate Talking: -- There's a snake -- in my boot.
- 11:17I Hate Talking: Yeah, the songs in one are more iconic, I think, than the lines.
- 11:22I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 11:23I Hate Talking: But bullseye.
- 11:25I Hate Talking: Is a pet to them.
- 11:28I Hate Talking: He is not a main character.
- 11:31I Hate Talking: That's interesting.
- 11:33I Hate Talking: That's true, he does not speak.
- 11:35I Hate Talking: So comparative to T.
- 11:37I Hate Talking: rex, where T.
- 11:39I Hate Talking: rex can speak, so.
- 11:42I Hate Talking: In the theory of kids' magic, basically.
- 11:46I Hate Talking: Kids would think that the T.
- 11:48I Hate Talking: rex is a Person and sort of that sort of characteristic about that particular character versus Bullseye being strictly an animal.
- 11:58I Hate Talking: Right.
- 12:00I Hate Talking: Yeah, I did think that was interesting that He interacted with them, but he was always their pet.
- 12:06I Hate Talking: Right, but I'm still hung up on the prospector being self-aware.
- 12:11I Hate Talking: He must have been played with as a plaything, right?
- 12:15I Hate Talking: Isn't that true?
- 12:16I Hate Talking: Because Kids would have thought that Buzz Lightyear was a person and had person-like characteristics.
- 12:24I Hate Talking: In order for Buzz to be alive.
- 12:27I Hate Talking: But he was not self-aware as a toy when he was unboxed both times, because there's two buzzes that make an appearance in Toy Story 2, the original one from Toy Story 1, that is self-aware that he is a toy, a child's plaything, and then the new buzz that is Unboxed and is not self-aware that he's a toy, right.
- 12:49I Hate Talking: So I guess it's not so much the aliveness of the toy that I'm questioning, but more of the self-awareness that they are a toy.
- 12:58I Hate Talking: OK, I, I mean, I follow you, I'm tracking it.
- 13:01I Hate Talking: I can get on board with that theory.
- 13:03I Hate Talking: Also, obviously the uh chicken guy, the collector.
- 13:08I Hate Talking: He obviously is not an honest man cause he stole Woody, and then he hired somebody to make Woody look brand new, like paint over him and all that.
- 13:18I Hate Talking: And claimed he was brand new.
- 13:20I Hate Talking: So I mean, I don't put it past him to do the same thing to the prospector.
- 13:26I Hate Talking: So, your theory is that the chicken man, AKA Toy salesman worker, AKA collector, reseller, unboxed prospector, played with him as a plaything, and that made the prospector not only alive but also self-aware that he was a toy.
- 13:45I Hate Talking: Yeah, I mean, I don't think he played with them.
- 13:48I Hate Talking: I think that he collected him from something.
- 13:50I Hate Talking: I see, but wouldn't the prospector disclose this, or he's so No, I think it gives him more value.
- 13:58I Hate Talking: I think maybe he's so bitter because he wasn't a preferred toy.
- 14:02I Hate Talking: He knew that Jesse and Woody.
- 14:05I Hate Talking: We always the main characters, and he was just like the side person.
- 14:11I Hate Talking: So I think that even if some kid had the whole set originally, he was never the one that the kid would take places and befriend.
- 14:20I Hate Talking: So I think he was always bitter, so this made him special that he was never unboxed.
- 14:26I Hate Talking: And uh so that gave him a little ego boost and Something he could hold over them.
- 14:34I Hate Talking: I see.
- 14:36I Hate Talking: So he would have been part of the set and at least seen a kid play with the other characters, and that is what made himself aware that he was a toy.
- 14:45I Hate Talking: And that's why his box is so nice is because he was opened and but wasn't really played with because he's not one of the fun characters.
- 14:54I Hate Talking: So then he gets bitter watching the kid play with Jesse and Woody.
- 14:59I Hate Talking: And then when he gets sold or discarded.
- 15:03I Hate Talking: His, um, cause you definitely right.
- 15:07I Hate Talking: Some of your toys you play with, you would keep in the box, I bet, huh, as a kid.
- 15:12I Hate Talking: I never did.
- 15:14I Hate Talking: The box always immediately got thrown in the trash.
- 15:17I Hate Talking: I don't think so.
- 15:18I Hate Talking: -- You never kept -- anything.
- 15:20I Hate Talking: I mean, I kept the boxes, but the toys stayed out of the boxes, OK, you still kept, I kept the boxes still to this day, the boxes are, yeah, they're in storage.
- 15:30I Hate Talking: We have boxes of boxes.
- 15:33I Hate Talking: But no, I 100% always break everything down and even as a kid, ripped it open, threw it away.
- 15:41I Hate Talking: But I could definitely see you.
- 15:43I Hate Talking: Keeping the box whether you put them in it after you play with them or you just keep the box for the future.
- 15:49I Hate Talking: Yeah, the majority of boxes that I kept were Lego boxes though because they, even at that time, Legos had a significant holding value.
- 16:00I Hate Talking: And resale value as a collectible item.
- 16:03I Hate Talking: So it was sort of standard process to keep the instruction booklets and keep the boxes.
- 16:10I Hate Talking: But don't you see too that like if he knew the prospector was never given uh a connection with a kid necessarily like a real connection, why he'd be so bitter and upset because Jesse has memories of her, was it Emily, I think Emily was her owner.
- 16:28I Hate Talking: And then Woody has Andy.
- 16:31I Hate Talking: So they have all these loving memories and bonds where he's always bitter.
- 16:37I Hate Talking: And so this was one thing he had his box, so he could hold that over their head.
- 16:41I Hate Talking: I suppose so.
- 16:43I Hate Talking: Could be.
- 16:44I Hate Talking: So there you go.
- 16:44I Hate Talking: Maybe we have a brand new internet fan theory that The prospector became self-aware.
- 16:50I Hate Talking: That he was a toy by seeing other toys within the set be played with by a child, so you think he never was opened because I think he was, -- or -- he was opened and played with very infrequently, you're saying.
- 17:03I Hate Talking: That's what I think, but you think he was never ever opened.
- 17:06I Hate Talking: He was, well, I mean, I suppose somebody would have had to open him to for him to get out of his box by himself.
- 17:14I Hate Talking: Because like all the little drawstrings and everything that hold a toy in place in their display box, I doubt he would be able to undo that himself.
- 17:21I Hate Talking: So if it was undone by somebody and then maybe put back, not in the exact same manner, then he could unbox himself, so to speak.
- 17:30I Hate Talking: Yeah, cause even think of when the buzz, the real buzz it's put in a box.
- 17:36I Hate Talking: He isn't manufacturly installed into it, but he has put in and how hard it was for him to get out.
- 17:43I Hate Talking: Well, that's just the miracle of modern-day packaging.
- 17:46I Hate Talking: Because there was a pretty significant time gap between Woody and Buzz, right?
- 17:52I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 17:53I Hate Talking: Yeah, right.
- 17:55I Hate Talking: Was the Woody show in black and white or color?
- 17:58I Hate Talking: Hm, I think black and white or like maybe beige that's what I wanna say like it was -- when that in -- between in between a little bit of you say I'll look it up.
- 18:09I Hate Talking: I don't think it was black and white.
- 18:11I Hate Talking: I remember there being some color, kind of color, but you're correct.
- 18:14I Hate Talking: Maybe it was sort of like that.
- 18:15I Hate Talking: monotone, brown color, or like a two-tone type thing and not full color.
- 18:21I Hate Talking: I don't know, it's really hard when you just, I googled Woody's Roundup, which is what the show is called, you know, obviously pretend show, but some stuff is very elaborate coloring, I think that's more modern.
- 18:33I Hate Talking: When there's a screen of the video, it's in black and white.
- 18:37I Hate Talking: I don't know though.
- 18:39I Hate Talking: I don't.
- 18:40I Hate Talking: What do you think?
- 18:41I Hate Talking: It does look black and white.
- 18:43I Hate Talking: I don't remember it being black and white.
- 18:46I Hate Talking: I think the lunchbox is maybe what I'm thinking of.
- 18:50I Hate Talking: The lunchbox is sort of this brown monotone color, right, yeah, that's kind of, which I think that also counts as black and white, right?
- 18:58I Hate Talking: Where it's Instead of black, though, it's more of the brownish colors.
- 19:02I Hate Talking: Correct, yep, Woody's Roundup, definitely black and white when the TV version is shown.
- 19:09I Hate Talking: I won't sing it to spare everyone's ears, but all I have is Woody's Roundup theme song in my head now.
- 19:16I Hate Talking: So my little sister.
- 19:19I Hate Talking: Um, oh, OK.
- 19:21I Hate Talking: She listens or someone else listens and sent it to her, I think is actually what happened.
- 19:27I Hate Talking: She sent me a picture of her.
- 19:29I Hate Talking: Rock Baby doll Artie.
- 19:33I Hate Talking: She still has it.
- 19:35I Hate Talking: Uh, last time we talked about Toy Story, I mentioned her rock named Artie.
- 19:41I Hate Talking: And so yep, sure enough, she still has it.
- 19:43I Hate Talking: She sent me a photo.
- 19:44I Hate Talking: It was so funny to see.
- 19:45I Hate Talking: But she was really into Jessie.
- 19:49I Hate Talking: That was her.
- 19:52I Hate Talking: Character For most of her childhood that she was really, really into and maybe that's why I knew she's a couple of years younger.
- 20:01I Hate Talking: But maybe that's why Toy Story 2 sticks in my head so much more than 1, because if she was really into Toy Story 2 with Jessie.
- 20:10I Hate Talking: We maybe watched it in the house more.
- 20:13I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 20:15I Hate Talking: That could be.
- 20:15I Hate Talking: So which one do you like better, 1 or 2?
- 20:18I Hate Talking: One feels like just a more organic story.
- 20:22I Hate Talking: That I think I like 1, more from a story perspective.
- 20:26I Hate Talking: 2 is like more memorable, but I think that's not necessarily for the fact that the storyline, but more just what happens during the story with like all the callbacks to Star Wars and other one-liner type things.
- 20:40I Hate Talking: Do you think that when you say organic, do you mean just like original?
- 20:45I Hate Talking: Yes, yeah, original, unique, yes.
- 20:48I Hate Talking: And it doesn't, yeah, no, I mean, organic as well though, like it's an organic storyline where it develops upon itself and it's not necessarily trying to shove one-liners and callbacks into the plot just for laughs.
- 21:04I Hate Talking: But I think that, yeah, and I think you're right to play towards the audience and maybe towards adults more with the jokes that they had.
- 21:15I Hate Talking: Obviously they were still kid friendly, but I think they knew that their audience was adults also, so they interacted with that more and I think 2 by the time 2 came around, they knew that they had something they kind of set it up so there's another one coming where 1.
- 21:32I Hate Talking: I'm not sure if they had planned like maybe like, oh, if this goes good, we'll have it in a second, but I don't think that they ended it knowing this is gonna be a multi-episode.
- 21:42I Hate Talking: -- I think -- I, I agree.
- 21:44I Hate Talking: So, color TV first launched in 1963.
- 21:48I Hate Talking: So, it would have been at least before that.
- 21:53I Hate Talking: And interesting to note that Mattel launched the first doll with a pull string mechanism in 1959.
- 22:01I Hate Talking: Oh, OK, so I mean, theoretically.
- 22:04I Hate Talking: Woody then would be created between 59 and 63.
- 22:10I Hate Talking: Is that where -- we stance on how old Woody -- is?
- 22:14I Hate Talking: Yes, in the Toy Story universe, I suppose so.
- 22:17I Hate Talking: And then Toy Story one, according to fan theories, would have been placed in 1995.
- 22:24I Hate Talking: For what?
- 22:25I Hate Talking: Toy Story one.
- 22:26I Hate Talking: 1995.
- 22:28I Hate Talking: Right, that's when it was created.
- 22:29I Hate Talking: No, OK, say that again.
- 22:33I Hate Talking: This is because of the fact that there is Andy's mom's license plate in one of the shots, and it expires in November of 1995.
- 22:45I Hate Talking: Oh, and that was episode one.
- 22:47I Hate Talking: You're saying that was movie number one movie one, and it's not movies.
- 22:49I Hate Talking: When did it actually air?
- 22:53I Hate Talking: Also, what state was it?
- 22:56I Hate Talking: Because some states, they last longer, right?
- 22:59I Hate Talking: Some are yearly, some are every 2 years or so.
- 23:02I Hate Talking: Right, but it would have to be at least November 1995 or earlier, right?
- 23:09I Hate Talking: So it could have been 1994 and she had an expired sticker on there, or you're saying it could have been, I see what you're saying, you're saying it could have been 1997 and she was driving for two years with an expired sticker.
- 23:20I Hate Talking: No, no, no, no, I'm saying earlier than that, that you, it's a new sticker.
- 23:25I Hate Talking: And she's got 2 years left on that sticker.
- 23:28I Hate Talking: Well, Toy Story 1 was released in the United States on November 22, 1990, the same date as the expiration of the license plate.
- 23:37I Hate Talking: Well, she had a lot going on with the move and everything.
- 23:40I Hate Talking: Personally, from experience, I know that when you're doing a move, that's hard to keep track of that stuff.
- 23:47I Hate Talking: But I hope she got that sticker and renewed it.
- 23:51I Hate Talking: Also, I hope they moved in-state.
- 23:53I Hate Talking: Because otherwise that's gonna expire before she changes it in a different state.
- 23:58I Hate Talking: That's true, man.
- 24:00I Hate Talking: That's interesting.
- 24:01I Hate Talking: OK, so 95 is when it aired.
- 24:04I Hate Talking: And that's when it's supposed to set, and who I think he said that he was 10, right?
- 24:09I Hate Talking: Is that what the story was?
- 24:11I Hate Talking: The Andy's birthday.
- 24:14I Hate Talking: -- So he -- was born in 85.
- 24:15I Hate Talking: No, he was, it was only his sixth birthday.
- 24:17I Hate Talking: Oh wow.
- 24:18I Hate Talking: He looks older than 6, but they were not very good at human animation, I suppose.
- 24:25I Hate Talking: Yeah, but also I think that would be something that I would have made an error in the previous one.
- 24:30I Hate Talking: I think I said he was 10.
- 24:31I Hate Talking: Like I heard that before.
- 24:33I Hate Talking: Remember I was like, our 10 year old doesn't play with toys like that.
- 24:36I Hate Talking: He six year old does, so that makes sense.
- 24:39I Hate Talking: This is also corroborated by the fact that tour guide Barbie.
- 24:43I Hate Talking: Refers to retailers not ordering enough Buzz Lightyear.
- 24:47I Hate Talking: To meet demand in 1995, they didn't order enough Buzz Lightyear, right?
- 24:53I Hate Talking: That's why it was so hard to get a Buzz Lightyear for Andy's birthday, not in real life in this story, in the buzz in the Toy Story universe.
- 25:00I Hate Talking: I thought their decision to call back to something that actually happened.
- 25:04I Hate Talking: The tour guide Barbie, remember when she is touring around and they go down the Buzz Lightyear aisle and they have hundreds and hundreds of buzzes, and she says the story.
- 25:13I Hate Talking: She gives the fact.
- 25:14I Hate Talking: I thought you're looking at your phone.
- 25:15I Hate Talking: I thought you were reading.
- 25:16I Hate Talking: I'm just very good at reading facts about Toy Story multiverse.
- 25:21I Hate Talking: Well, I looked at my internet and I asked them when Woody's Roundup was created, and you wanna hear what it says?
- 25:28I Hate Talking: What's it say?
- 25:30I Hate Talking: My, I, we've talked about AI before, right?
- 25:33I Hate Talking: How I like it.
- 25:34I Hate Talking: Sometimes I think it has such low.
- 25:37I Hate Talking: Expectations or uh opinions of me as the user.
- 25:43I Hate Talking: Because it very nicely tells me, Woody's Roundup was in fact a fictional 1950s child's puppet western television show in the Toy Story universe.
- 25:54I Hate Talking: The series originally debuted originally.
- 25:59I Hate Talking: Reputed Debated.
- 26:03I Hate Talking: Oh no, debuted, debuted, I guess we got a word for next time.
- 26:07I Hate Talking: The series originally debuted in 1957 and ran for a single season, 13 episodes, before it was abruptly canceled due to the launch of Sputnik.
- 26:25I Hate Talking: That's right, Space twice.
- 26:28I Hate Talking: That's also why the prospector was sort of bitter, I suppose.
- 26:32I Hate Talking: Right, but the timeline doesn't line up.
- 26:35I Hate Talking: Because if Sputnik and space toys became popular.
- 26:40I Hate Talking: In the late 50s, early 60s.
- 26:44I Hate Talking: We're still saying this is like mid-nineties.
- 26:48I Hate Talking: Why was Andy so late to the game?
- 26:50I Hate Talking: Well, it's probably like his grandpa's toy or his dad's toy or something like that.
- 26:55I Hate Talking: We'll have to continue watching Toy Story 34, and 5 to see if there are any particular allusions to his dad or anything.
- 27:02I Hate Talking: Yeah, I don't really have many memories from 3 and 4 Well, there's like the teddy bear thing, right?
- 27:10I Hate Talking: I feel like that's the toy that.
- 27:12I Hate Talking: Is that the, I think that's 3.
- 27:14I Hate Talking: I don't think I've, I may have not seen 4.
- 27:17I Hate Talking: And then there's also Buzz Lightyear, like the standalone movie.
- 27:21I Hate Talking: A lot of fans reject that as canon though, so.
- 27:24I Hate Talking: And Bo Peep has one too.
- 27:27I Hate Talking: So for the final observation and the final particular topic on this episode, the RC car remote, did you notice that in Toy Story 2?
- 27:37I Hate Talking: It's like in the very first scene.
- 27:41I Hate Talking: It's back.
- 27:41I Hate Talking: The remote is there and it is being used to -- control the RC -- car.
- 27:46I Hate Talking: Oh wait, so you got reunited.
- 27:48I Hate Talking: I think it's just a either.
- 27:52I Hate Talking: Mistake With like a continuity error or somehow they recovered the remote or got a replacement.
- 27:59I Hate Talking: Maybe it's not even the same RC car.
- 28:01I Hate Talking: Oh, that'd be, I wonder how they address that when you get replacement toys.
- 28:07I Hate Talking: -- If they just pick up -- as well I think that's in Toy Story 3.
- 28:10I Hate Talking: That's, that's like the replacement movie.
- 28:12I Hate Talking: Well, that's what we'll watch next.
- 28:16I Hate Talking: Yeah, we're gonna have that this weekend or so to watch with the family.
- 28:19I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 28:19I Hate Talking: So, from your friends at I Hate Talking, until next time, remember, it is only through talking that we begin the journey to understanding.
