- 0:37Speaker 6: were talking to Dylan and she told us as she
- 0:39Speaker 6: works for Rover and she dog sits. And then we
- 0:42Speaker 6: were talking about the lady that was a professional mourner
- 0:47Speaker 6: and go to funerals. We talk about unique jobs. Susan
- 0:50Speaker 6: apparently has a unique job.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Hello Susan, Hello John Jay.
- 0:54Speaker 4: How are you.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Graham dying to hear what your unusual job is?
- 0:58Speaker 4: Well, I am a standard patient and that means I
- 1:03Speaker 4: pretend to be a patient to help train medical students
- 1:06Speaker 4: at medical school and they just practice on me. The
- 1:09Speaker 4: I have a whole history of symptoms and history of
- 1:13Speaker 4: conditions and medications, and they practice practice exams, so they
- 1:17Speaker 4: do it for like three different medical schools.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Okay, wait a minute, So when you go in as
- 1:21Speaker 1: a professional patient, do you use your actual history and
- 1:25Speaker 1: your actual medication or you making up stuff?
- 1:28Speaker 2: You're playing a role.
- 1:29Speaker 3: No, they give me a.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Playing a role.
- 1:31Speaker 4: They give me a case. It's like memorizing a script,
- 1:35Speaker 4: and I have to know all the details for that
- 1:37Speaker 4: particular patient's case. I have a made up name, made
- 1:40Speaker 4: up age, everything.
- 1:42Speaker 1: So you basically give symptoms and then the pretend doctors
- 1:45Speaker 1: have to guess, oh, well, she's got colitis or something else.
- 1:48Speaker 2: That I'm like, fine, fine job you playing doctor. We
- 1:54Speaker 2: should also learn so much.
- 1:56Speaker 4: I'm almost a doctor. I feel like, after all these
- 1:59Speaker 4: years of all these exits, I know about oscultation, palpitation, percussion,
- 2:05Speaker 4: all the names of all the lymph nods and reflexes. Yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 4: that is, but they also have to learn how to Yeah,
- 2:12Speaker 4: they have to learn how to communicate. It's more about
- 2:14Speaker 4: the communication and how to take a good history and
- 2:17Speaker 4: how to show good bedside man or an empathy.
- 2:20Speaker 5: That was going to be my question, is there is
- 2:22Speaker 5: there anyone that like you have been treated from bias
- 2:26Speaker 5: the patient or whatever that you're like, ooh, yeah, she
- 2:29Speaker 5: might not make the best nurse. So you know what
- 2:31Speaker 5: I mean with like bedside man, because that's so a
- 2:32Speaker 5: woriing on people's experience. It is.
- 2:36Speaker 4: You know, I have to say these medical students, I'm
- 2:38Speaker 4: always so impressed, like they seem so young to me,
- 2:41Speaker 4: but they're so professional and hardworking and they're really great.
- 2:45Speaker 4: But you know they're still learning, so sometimes they do
- 2:48Speaker 4: have to be given constructive criticism. I also give a
- 2:52Speaker 4: lot of feedback written the verbal and maybe they don't
- 2:56Speaker 4: show empathy. Maybe they're not looking at you when you're
- 2:59Speaker 4: saying something very you know, sensitive or emotional to you,
- 3:05Speaker 4: So you have to work on that.
- 3:07Speaker 6: Have you ever as a fake patient, like fake died
- 3:10Speaker 6: and see how they are fake dying to see.
- 3:11Speaker 2: How they treat you.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Well, I've played a dying patient. Sometimes they have to
- 3:17Speaker 4: do breaking bad news. I have actually cried, right, I
- 3:22Speaker 4: have cried. I could be one of those professional warriors. Yes, breakings.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Has anybody ever told you your ailment and.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Then asked you out on a date.
- 3:35Speaker 1: No.
- 3:35Speaker 4: Even though they do practice breast exams, sometimes they do
- 3:38Speaker 4: not they're very professional.
- 3:41Speaker 5: But that's actually like so cool though, because I know
- 3:44Speaker 5: at Aliant Nursing, like right in midtown Phoenix, they have
- 3:46Speaker 5: those like simulator bays where they're like robots and they
- 3:49Speaker 5: are the patient. But it's like when you get that
- 3:52Speaker 5: that actual interaction from a human being, like you can't
- 3:56Speaker 5: deny that that's not going to help you be successful.
- 3:59Speaker 1: We should do like, you know, Susan says, the doctors
- 4:02Speaker 1: do breaking bad news, which is our bid. Why don't
- 4:05Speaker 1: we steal from them? You call us with the symptom,
- 4:07Speaker 1: and we see if we can figure out what's wrong
- 4:09Speaker 1: with you with our collective medical knowledge. Kyle was pre
- 4:12Speaker 1: met this is gonna be a cakewalkot.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Because I feel like you kind of do that with
- 4:15Speaker 2: groups therapy. We're like human shat Chepy team.
- 4:19Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, Iile would probably be the best that
- 4:22Speaker 4: that she'd be great.
- 4:23Speaker 6: So Susan, whe's the next time you're going in? When
- 4:25Speaker 6: the next time you're going in as a fake patient?
- 4:27Speaker 4: I'm going in this afternoon.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Actually, do you know what you have already?
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 4:33Speaker 4: I just had surgery and I'm having a bad reaction from.
- 4:36Speaker 6: The anaesthesia in you know, I always want to do
- 4:39Speaker 6: like I get vitamin drips about once a week, and
- 4:42Speaker 6: someday I want to play a joke on Janna who
- 4:44Speaker 6: gives me the vitamin drip. When she puts the needle
- 4:46Speaker 6: in my arm, I start to shake and freak out.
- 4:48Speaker 6: I thought that'd be fun to do, but then I
- 4:50Speaker 6: also thought, probably not a good traumatizer ahere, but you
- 4:53Speaker 6: should do.
- 4:54Speaker 2: You should do that, Susan.
- 4:55Speaker 6: Next time they come in and you starts shaking and
- 4:57Speaker 6: fall on the floor, and see what happens trying to talk.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Last, I.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Have a fake the sea here. They said, I'm very
- 5:05Speaker 4: good at that.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Wow, that's a very unique job to do.
- 5:12Speaker 4: When they say, uh, have you been having any problems
- 5:15Speaker 4: with your hearing? I'm only so tempted to say.
- 5:17Speaker 2: What house the lol bearra All right, Susan, have a
- 5:24Speaker 2: great day, thanks for listening.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Thank you, guys, love you so good it being a
- 5:29Speaker 1: fake patient.
- 5:30Speaker 2: They keep asking her back. That's good.
- 5:32Speaker 6: So I started off saying how Dylan works for Rover
- 5:36Speaker 6: and dog sits, and I think that inspired Noah. Noah
- 5:39Speaker 6: was dog sitting and he sent me a picture. It's
- 5:41Speaker 6: freaking hilarious, Like, why were you do? What's the story?
- 5:45Speaker 3: My friend, Taylor, her dad childhood best friend, lives like
- 5:48Speaker 3: down the block and they were going out of town
- 5:50Speaker 3: and they needed a dog sitter. And they asked me,
- 5:52Speaker 3: which I don't know why they asked me, I have cats.
- 5:54Speaker 3: I've never watched a dog in my life, and so
- 5:58Speaker 3: I was like, how hard can it be?
- 5:59Speaker 2: I'm I'm, I'm in.
- 6:00Speaker 3: So they asked me to spend the night and stay
- 6:02Speaker 3: the weekend at this house because the dog is super
- 6:07Speaker 3: high maintenance, and I was like, what does that mean.
- 6:10Speaker 3: She gave me a three page paper on what the
- 6:13Speaker 3: dog wants and needs, and then filippines that the dog
- 6:17Speaker 3: likes to have floaty time on like a little floating
- 6:20Speaker 3: pool island where you could put like has coup holders
- 6:22Speaker 3: you could put your drinks on.
- 6:23Speaker 2: That's pretty cool, what a dog.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Every day at sunset I had to go outside, put
- 6:29Speaker 3: a towel down on the floating The dog would jump
- 6:31Speaker 3: in on the pool steps and then let him float.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Around in the pool like the dog knew. The dog
- 6:35Speaker 2: knew it, he would.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Ask for it, and so every night I would go
- 6:40Speaker 3: swim with him. But as soon as I would wake
- 6:42Speaker 3: up in the morning, I would hear like the paw
- 6:44Speaker 3: scratching at the door. He would want to go out
- 6:45Speaker 3: and get in his floaty. Yeah, a little touaha. He
- 6:51Speaker 3: had to have a sweet potato tree with a food
- 6:53Speaker 3: or he wouldn't eat. You had to call him, You
- 6:56Speaker 3: had to say good boy every time you were leaving,
- 6:58Speaker 3: and you had to leave a curtain open him otherwise
- 7:00Speaker 3: he would fight with the cat.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Did you follow every rule?
- 7:03Speaker 3: I did?
- 7:04Speaker 2: I did?
- 7:04Speaker 3: Today is my last name. I'm wrapping up and I'm
- 7:07Speaker 3: just hoping to disappoint the owner something.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Here's the picture of the dog on the floating looking
- 7:12Speaker 2: at him. It's like, oh my GOSHT time. Yeah, look
- 7:19Speaker 2: at the dogs.
- 7:22Speaker 1: What's that puppy's name Diego? He looks like a Diego dog.
- 7:29Speaker 2: This dog could be a famous viral dog. It's so funny.
- 7:32Speaker 2: That's a unique job. But you're a good human being, Noah,
- 7:35Speaker 2: thanks for sharing that.
- 7:35Speaker 3: With this.
- 7:36Speaker 6: We'll put the picture of Diego on his floating up
- 7:39Speaker 6: at John Jay and Rich on Instagram.
